They require lots of love, attention, playtime, training, and socialization. Vizsladoodles are rare hybrids that you will usually find from a breeder. It is also not impossible to find them from a rescue shelter, but either way, it is important to do your research and find a reputable place to adopt or buy your Vizsladoodle puppy. It is also important to remember that over and above the cost of the puppy is the addition of the initial vet visit and inoculations, beds, food bowls, and toys. Once the initial setup costs are taken care of, you must factor in monthly costs such as food and pet insurance. It may seem overwhelming at first, but the years of unconditional love and companionship make it worth it. It carries all the great traits from its parents and makes a remarkable companion for families of all sizes and singles. Because its parents are incredibly intelligent, the Vizsladoodle does not take long to potty-train and is relatively easy to train. Are These Dogs Good for Families? But like any family with kids adopting a new pet, the children need to be taught how to behave with and handle puppies and dogs. They love long walks in the park, playing fetch, and any activity involving being with their humans. They have a great adoration for their family members, and they are eager to please. Vizsladoodles will generally get along with other pets as long as they are well-socialized and trained from a young age. Because the dog is full of energy and playful, it may be a little overbearing for a cat, but that is something that most cats can handle as they usually stay out of the way. However, they generally get along with other dogs and can become good friends. Your Vizsladoodle will require a high-quality, complete diet that is age appropriate. Commercially processed canned or kibble foods are convenient, consistent, easily accessible, and affordable, and they go through a quality control process. You can feed your dog twice daily as an adult, but puppies require at least three meals daily to assist their development. Your Vizsladoodle will also benefit from puzzle feeders since it is intelligent and requires appropriate mental stimulation. A post shared by Vizsladoodle-Hummels hummels. This can be broken up into two daily sessions of 30 minutes, depending on the age and stage of growth. The dog loves to walk, run, and play, and if it is anything like its Poodle parent, it may love to swim! They will thrive with an active family that will provide plenty of physical and mental stimulation. A Vizsladoodle that is not adequately exercised may get bored and direct its pent-up energy into destructive activities, such as chewing your shoes or digging up your garden! They are devoted, eager to please their humans, and easy to train. Early socialization and training are highly recommended to get your pup off to a good start. They excel at obedience training and thrive from lots of mental stimulation. Positive reinforcement will help greatly for successful training, so lots of praise and treats are the name of the game. Regardless of whether they inherit a coat that is more Poodle-like or Vizsla-like, you will only need to brush them a few times per week to keep shedding to a minimum. If your Vizsladoodle has a coat more like its Poodle parent, it may require a haircut every 6 to 8 months to keep it neat and prevent matting. Their teeth will also require at least a weekly brushing, and their nails and ears should be checked regularly. A post shared by hilde. They are generally healthy, but like all canines, they may be prone to specific health conditions. Finding a reputable breeder will also help reduce the chance of developing any major health issues since reputable breeders perform genetic testing to ensure their stock is healthy. Minor Conditions. Origins Of The Vizsla Poodle Mix There is no documented history of the vizsla poodle mix as an intentional hybrid breed. However the origins of deliberately bred poodle mix dogs like the labradoodle is more well known and was initially driven by the need to produce a service dog for a vision impaired woman with allergies in the s. So with high demand for non-shedding dogs, it is no surprise the vizsladoodle exists today. And while not particularly common, the crossbreed offers a unique combination of a more hypoallergenic and medium sized dog for active dog lovers. Vizslas have a long documented history in Europe. But they faced extinction in the early 20th century due to war, occupation and the subsequent disruption to breeding programs in modern day Hungary. Originally bred as a water dog to retrieve waterfowl, they are now one of the most popular dog breeds but rarely used for hunting. Poodles were recognised by the AKC in and are part of the non-sporting category. There are three official poodle sizes — Standard, Miniature and Toy poodles. Based on their parentage they are likely to be an elegant, medium to large sized dog ranging in size from 15 to 24 inches high. They will have large floppy ears, a long tail, and a lean and muscular frame. In terms of color there will be a range of possibilities. Vizslas come in just one solid color, golden rust. But poodles come in a wide range of solid colors from cream all the way through to black. Their coat will vary from curly to wavy. But it is likely you will need to groom your vizsladoodle more than you would a purebred vizsla as vizslas have such short easy to maintain coats. The best way to know the likely size and color of your vizslapoo is to see the parents as your pup will inherit a combination of their appearance traits. Both are both renowned as friendly, playful and affectionate dogs so there is a good chance your vizsladoodle will have all of these characteristics. Poodles and vizslas are also intelligent, eager to please and highly trainable so training your vizslapoo and teaching them tricks should be pretty easy. In terms of risks relating to temperament, both breeds dislike being left alone and are prone to separation anxiety. As a result your poodle cross vizsla will need plenty of attention and cuddles from you. Both these breeds need plenty of mental stimulation and can be prone to boredom so you will need to keep your mixed breed dog busy when you are out. In terms of what is different and therefore less predictable, the vizsla temperament is renowned as very emotionally needy and sensitive than the poodle. And while poodles can also experience separation anxiety, they are on the whole more independent dogs than vizslas. So the degree of clinginess will vary depending on the genetic makeup of each mixed dog. With any mixed breed dog, proactive socialization and training from an early age will help combat any negative traits. The Vizsladoodle is an incredibly friendly dog and is brimming with affection for the people that this pup loves. This pup varies in size since the Vizsla can mate with either the Toy, Miniature, or Standard Poodle, which means it comes in a variety of loveable sizes. They are highly intelligent thanks to their Poodle genes and loyal as ever, thanks to the DNA from the Vizsla parent. Mixed pups usually do not get the same level of fanfare and attention as their purebred counterparts, which results in key details being skimmed over. Chances are the Vizsladoodle originated in the United States some time, either during or after the s, since that is when Doodle popularity skyrocketed. No breeder has come forward with the claim of having crossed the Vizsla and the Poodle together for the first time, and chances are this breed existed in nature through accidental mating long before any intentional efforts to bring the two dogs together began. Personality and Temperament This is an incredibly friendly pup! The Vizsladoodle loves to be around the humans that it loves and is social enough to get along well with pretty much anyone. With a bit of early socialization, these pups make great additions to families with kids due to their gentle and calm nature. They thrive in households where they get a fair bit of attention. Loyal to the core and incredibly loving, this pup makes for a wonderful pet. To get a good idea of the kind of personality your Vizsladoodle will grow up to have, it is best to spend time around the Poodle or the Vizsla parents. Their personalities are usually fairly good indicators of the kind of temperament your puppy will grow up to have. Vizsladoodle Size It is difficult to say exactly how big the Vizsladoodle will get since their size is highly reliant on the Poodle parent. The size will vary depending on whether the Vizsla has mated with a Toy, Miniature, or Standard Poodle. The lack of standards when it comes to sizes means there is quite a bit of variation from one pup to the next. Vizsladoodle Health On average, the Vizsladoodle is a hardy and healthy pooch. This is mainly because the gene pool is relatively larger when it comes to mixed breeding, resulting in hybrid vigor. The hybrid dogs are often healthier than their parents, but it is always a good idea to check the health clearances of the parent dogs when getting your puppy from a breeder. A healthy parent is a good guarantee for a healthy puppy. Take care not to buy from breeders that mate dogs that are younger than 2 years of age, since that is when most genetic illnesses rear their ugly heads. Schedule regular veterinary checkups to ensure that your Vizsladoodle is growing up healthy and so that any issues are caught early in and nipped in the bud. Vizsladoodle Care and Training The Vizsladoodle is a pretty active dog and one that will need a fair bit of daily exercise. If you are someone that likes to spend their days lazing around on the couch and would like a pup that does the same, the Vizsladoodle may not be the right pup for you. These dogs love the great outdoors and make great companions on hikes or long walks. If they do not release all of their pent-up energy through exercise, these dogs may become destructive. They are also very intelligent, so it is important to keep them mentally stimulated. When it comes to training, these pups may prove to be a bit stubborn. It is best to steer clear of free-feeding since that may cause overeating. Coat Color, Types, Shedding These pups have coats that are generally low-shedding, making them good dogs for allergy sufferers. Vizsladoodle Grooming These are rather low-maintenance dogs. The Vizsladoodle requires no more than a few brushing sessions a week to ensure its coat stays healthy and tangle-free. Vizsladoodle Breeders. Should a Vizsla Mix take after their Vizsla, or Hungarian Pointer, parent, they will grow into a medium-sized dog with an energetic, playful, and affectionate personality. The Vizsla is a family-oriented and affectionate dog. In fact, they are considered one of the most affectionate dog breeds. As one of the kid-friendly dog breeds , they tend to get along well with children and other dogs, but have a high prey drive and will need extra training and socialization around other small pets. Well-socialized Vizslas also tend to be open to strangers and warm up quickly. Should a Vizsla Mix take after their Vizsla parent, you should be able to expect a similar temperament. The other parent breed will introduce their own quirks and potential traits, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. You can also meet the mother in person to see what her temperament is like and the behavior she is modeling for her puppies. Socialization and training are essential for every puppy to grow into a well-rounded dog. Although the breeder should have started some training and socialization, it is up to you to continue to train and socialize a puppy once you get them home. Vizslas are moderately adaptable dogs. Because they need a lot of attention and exercise, they tend to be better suited for homes with fenced yards where they can run. As long as plenty of time is dedicated to giving them the exercise they need every day, a Vizsla can adapt to apartment living. Because they bond so closely with their families and strive to be near them, they do like to be left alone for long periods of time. If the other parent breed is similar, then you can expect a Vizsla Mix to be a moderately adaptable dog as well. You still want to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed so you are fully aware of all potential quirks and traits a Vizsla Mix could inherit. Although a mixed breed can sometimes be healthier than a purebred, it is not a guarantee. They could inherit a mix, all, or none of the health conditions common to their parent breeds. Good breeding practices have a big effect on the health of puppies. Potential health concerns to be aware of from the Vizsla side can include epilepsy and Sebaceous Adenitis, which is an inflammatory skin issue. The other parent breed may introduce other potential health concerns to be aware of. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Vizslas are highly intelligent dogs that are sensitive to their owners and eager to please them. Although their energy can be a challenge for first-time owners, one of the facts about Vizslas is that dog owners of all experience levels tend to be a good fit for them. If the other parent is similar, then you can expect a Vizsla Mix to also be a good fit for owners of all experience levels. If the other parent breed tends to require a more experienced owner, then novice dog owners will want to be prepared to enroll in obedience classes. Not only do they help keep your training consistent, but they can also be a good bonding experience and even offer some socialization opportunities. A Vizsla Mix can inherit a coat that is similar to one of their parents or a coat that is a mix of both. Should they inherit a Vizsla coat, they will have a short, smooth coat that sheds a little year-round and only requires weekly brushing and a wipedown with a damp cloth. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks, along with careful cleanings as needed, can help prevent ear infections. Brushing teeth daily, plus cleanings at the vet as needed, is an ideal start for dental care for dogs. Vizslas are known for being super affectionate and also super energetic. They are high-energy sporting dogs that need a lot of daily activity to be happy and healthy. Also, they will almost always be up for more activity if you are; they will love the chance to spend more time being active with you. These dogs are athletic and versatile, so you can try a lot of activities with them once they finish growing and developing. In addition to hiking, swimming, training for dog sports, playing fetch, and more, Vizslas are also one of the dog breeds that make good running partners. Fully-grown Vizslas usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother. Although it is not a guarantee, you can meet the mother in person to get an idea of what size to expect from a Vizsla Mix puppy. Vizslas generally live for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, you should be able to expect a similar average life span from Vizsla Mixes. It is an amino sugar derived from glucose and the amino acid glutamine. Glucosamine is one of the major building block of cartilage, which helps provide cushioning and support for our dog's joints. The power of Glucosamine together with Chondroitin For the best possible dog joint health support , Glucosamine works best in conjunction with Chondroitin Sulphate, with both supplements having greater effect on joint health when used together. Hyaluronic Acid Not only does Hyaluronic Acid help ease inflammation and pain caused by joint issues in dogs, but it is well known to aid the growth and development of cartilage between joints. Found in plenty of vegetables, this vitamin is an important antioxidant and can help reduce joint inflammation. This vitamin plays an important role in the limitation of cellular injury, which is a key feature of hereditary joint conditions. Found in fish oil, leafy greens and vegetables, Vitamin E can slow the progress of joint issues, provided it is taken in the right quantities. Omega-3 There have been plenty of studies that demonstrate how Omega-3 fatty acids can benefit brain function and skin health, as well as limit the symptoms of many diseases and conditions, such as joint stiffness and discomfort. These fatty acids increase blood flow and are very important anti-inflammatories, crucial to controlling joint pain in German Shepherds. Unlike Vitamin C, it is not a naturally occurring acid in mammals and is often derived from fish oils. Hopefully, your dog's diet will already contain either artificially added or naturally occurring Omega-3, but there are plenty of dog supplements available which contain them, as well. Best calming aid for German Shepherds Supplements can help stressed, anxious German Shepherds by providing calming support in challenging situations. The idea is to help your dog feel calmer so they become more receptive to behavioral therapy techniques. In time, this will lead to a happier, more playful, and more confident dog and an improved quality of life for you both. Many calming aids use hemp extracts, CDB, or even valerian root to produce a relaxing effect on dogs. These additives help regulate various bodily functions such as sleep, appetite, and pain sensation. Some of them can also reduce inflammation, anxiety, and seizures in dogs. Start with a low dose to avoid any adverse effects such as nausea, lethargy, or diarrhea. Their use is part of a complete program that helps them adjust their reactions while going through a behavior modification program. More professional GSD breeders today, however, are committed to the health of their canines and actively support scientific research that aims to eradicate genetic diseases in GSDs. Supplements are no longer an afterthought. May guard against some allergies. Can provide pain relief for back, muscle, and joint pain that is chronic. Boost energy levels to support a healthy, active lifestyle. Caring for your German Shepherd is more than just a routine. Given the multitude of health problems in the breed, stay watchful and monitor for any abnormal behavior or health concerns. A supplement could help provide your GSD relief in some cases. See your veterinarian sooner rather than later. Supplement Safety Your top priority is safety when selecting supplements. Unfortunately, with little regulatory enforcement, there is a high potential for ineffective, or even unsafe, supplements that make fraudulent claims. So, how do you choose supplements for your German Shepherd that are safe and effective? First, you need to ask questions, such as: 1. How long have they been in business? Generally, the longer, the better. Contact the company with questions. How responsive are they? Who is involved with formulating the products? Nutritional experts and veterinarians are best. What kinds of claims are being made? Is there specific safety or efficacy research on this product? Is there a guaranteed analysis? Is there a lot number and expiration date? Have you consulted with your vet regarding giving them to your pet and what condition you hope to address? Typically, reputable supplement manufacturers have their products tested and approved by third-party organizations, such as the National Animal Supplement Council. Additionally, labels must indicate the contents accurately, and the products should be free from contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, and harmful bacteria. Performing these quality checks beforehand could help minimize the risk of adverse side effects and ensure that your German Shepherd benefits from the supplement. Some common side effects to watch out for include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and allergic reactions. Consult your veterinarian if you have any concerns or notice any unusual reactions. Allergic reactions Allergic reactions to supplements can be serious, particularly in dogs with known food allergies. Symptoms may include difficulty breathing, swelling, hives, and vomiting. In severe cases, anaphylaxis can occur, which is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate veterinary attention. Seek veterinary advice if any adverse side effects occur. Upset stomach An upset stomach is a common issue that German Shepherds face. Certain supplements can help alleviate this discomfort. Probiotics are one such supplement known to promote healthy gut bacteria and improve digestive function. Other options include digestive enzymes, which can calm stomach inflammation and reduce nausea. Some side effects lessen with consistent use, while others may continue and require you to readjust the amount or type of supplement for your German Shepherd. Digestive problems Digestive problems in German Shepherds can range from mild discomfort to serious health issues. Supplements such as probiotics, digestive enzymes, and fiber can improve gut health and alleviate symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Unfortunately, side effects such as bloating or increased bowel movements could still occur even with supplements meant to quell those exact issues. Some supplements, like omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, and calming treats, have been shown to improve mood and reduce anxiety in German Shepherds. These mood-boosting supplements can still cause side effects, such as vomiting or diarrhea, or not work as you anticipated. Discontinue use if necessary, and contact your vet for further treatment in this case. Consulting a Veterinarian Before Giving a Supplement to a German Shepherd It cannot be overstated how crucial it is to consult with a veterinarian before giving any supplements to your German Shepherd. They can also identify any pre-existing health conditions, as certain supplements can interact negatively with other medications or might not be suitable for treating with supplements. Ultimately, seeking the guidance of a veterinarian can prevent adverse reactions and ensure your dog receives the best possible care. The fact that supplementation with these nutrients can help with so many problems shows that some supplements are a good choice for treating certain diseases. Here are some of the reasons why you could give your German Shepherd health supplements, along with how they may benefit your pup: 1. Joint health As German Shepherds age, they can experience joint pain and stiffness, making it difficult for them to move around comfortably. Joint health supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin help to reduce inflammation and support joint function. These soothing supplements may help your dog remain more active and mobile. Combine joint supplements with hip pain relief for your German Shepherd. Digestive health Many German Shepherds have sensitive stomachs and experience occasional digestive issues. Probiotic supplements can help improve gut health and promote healthy digestion. Skin and coat health Dry skin, itchiness, and hot spots are common skin issues for German Shepherds. Plus, dryness and itching are lessened, promoting a healthy, shiny coat. Supplements containing ingredients like chamomile, valerian root, or L-theanine can help calm dogs and reduce anxiety. Plus, puppies who find it difficult to wind down may benefit from calming supplements. Dental health Poor dental health can lead to bad breath, tooth decay, and other health issues. Dental health supplements containing plaque-reducing ingredients can help to clean teeth and improve overall oral health. Immune system support A strong immune system is important for defending against illness and disease. Brain health As dogs age, they can experience cognitive decline and memory issues. Supplements containing ingredients like DHA and EPA, found in fish oil, can help improve brain function and cognitive health. These supplements are also great for growing puppies to support their brain health. The most common methods to give supplements to your German Shepherd are: 1. You can mix powdered supplements or liquid drops into wet or dry food to make them easier to administer. Wet dog foods tend to hide the taste of powders and make it more appealing to consume the supplement. But many GSDs happily eat their dry kibble even with supplements added. Giving soft chews. You can also give supplements directly to your dog as treats. Soft chews are generally more treat-like for dogs, and German Shepherd puppies enjoy the soft texture. Administering a tablet or soft gel capsule. Another option is to provide supplements in the form of tablets or soft gel capsules. Wrapping a pill or capsule in a piece of cheese or meat can make it more appealing. Some tablets must be consumed whole to have the most therapeutic effect. When should I give my German Shepherd a supplement? Unless otherwise directed by a veterinarian, your growing GSD puppy does not require additional calcium. Most owners give joint supplements, omega-3 supplements, and probiotics to German Shepherds for a well rounded lifestyle. What supplements do German Shepherd puppies need? German Shepherd puppies generally need the following supplements:. These issues can affect all types of dogs. Large dogs like German Shepherds can be more prone to joint issues. Due to a variety of factors, including age, genetic disposition, weight, diet, lifestyle, and environment, dogs can develop joint issues that significantly affect their mobility. Especially among larger breeds, these are some of the most common conditions: 1 Osteoarthritis Osteoarthritis is a chronic disease that affects dogs because of the progressive and irreversible deterioration of the cartilage around their joints. Consequently, it leads to chronic joint inflammation, pain, and loss of mobility in the limbs. Over time, the joint deteriorates and causes pain, a reduction in their range of motion, or even crippling lameness. This can involve any joint in the body and often leads to pain, swelling, limping, and lameness. Like hip dysplasia, this is a developmental disease that occurs commonly among fast-growing breeds. However, OCD is immediately apparent and so can be corrected with surgery right away to minimize the risk of joint degeneration over time. That leads to degeneration of the hip joint and typically requires surgery. Luckily, most dogs regain full use of their limbs with proper post-operative care. Breeds The link has been copied! Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. As an admirer of one of these lovely furry companions, you may question how much it costs to buy and own a Labrador Retriever. We'll explore the upfront price of purchasing a puppy and the routine costs associated with pet ownership. We'll also cover various factors that can impact the cost of a Lab and provide tips on how to reduce the cost of owning one. The cost of a Lab can vary depending on several factors such as its age, color, purpose show or field , whether it's a purebred, and more. Routine Care Expenses Owning a Labrador Retriever requires some routine care expenses, which should be taken into account when considering the overall cost of having a pet. One of the essential expenses is veterinary care, which includes routine check-ups, vaccinations, and emergency medical care. Labs are prone to specific health issues, such as hip dysplasia , eye problems, and skin allergies, which may require additional medical attention and expenses. Another routine care expense for Labs is feeding. As they are a somewhat larger breed, they require a substantial amount of food to maintain their weight and energy levels. Additionally, treats, chews, and supplements can also be added to their diet, increasing the overall cost of nutrition. Proper grooming and hygiene are essential to keep a Lab healthy and comfortable. Remember that training and behavioral classes may be necessary to ensure your Lab is well-behaved and socialized, which can also be costly. These expenses should be considered when determining if a Lab is the right breed for you and your budget. How much a Labrador Retriever puppy costs depends on multiple factors, such as the breeder's reputation, the location of the pup, the bloodline, and more. Additionally, the cost may increase if the puppy comes with additional services such as health certificates, microchipping , or first vaccinations. Your pup will also need feeding, grooming, and bathing factored into their expenses, as well as beds, toys, chews, leashes, collars, harnesses, and much more. Consider the following: Buying From a Breeder vs. While adopting a Lab may be less expensive, it is essential to note that some shelters may have restrictions and requirements that need to be met before adoption. Keep in mind that the price of a Labrador based on color may vary by region and how popular that specific color is in that location. However, buyers should be cautious and avoid buying from dishonest breeders who may be selling mixed-breed dogs as purebreds. Breeders Reputation Reputable breeders who prioritize health, temperament, and breed standards usually charge more for their puppies. It's crucial to research the breeder thoroughly and ensure that they follow ethical breeding practices before making a purchase. This includes checking their breeding practices, requesting health certificates and pedigrees, and visiting their facilities in person if possible. Buyers should also be cautious of breeders who offer extremely low prices, as that might be a sign of unethical practices. Estimated Size The estimated size of an adult Labrador retriever is around about .Average Price To Buy A Lab Puppy From A Breeder The average price to buy a Lab puppy from a breeder is different from one person to the next, according to the reputation the breeder has in the community, the dog's bloodline, and their location. Again, the color of the Lab plays a significant factor as well. In addition to the cost of the puppy, there are also other expenses associated with owning a Lab. This includes routine care costs such as food, toys, grooming supplies, and veterinary visits for vaccinations and check-ups. Owners should also budget for unexpected expenses such as emergency veterinary care or unexpected illnesses. Remember that a reputable breeder may charge more for their puppies, but they are more likely to provide you with a healthy, well-socialized puppy from a good bloodline. Average Cost To Adopt A Lab Puppy Adopting a Lab puppy is generally less expensive than buying one from a breeder, but the costs can still vary widely. However, it's crucial to research adoption agencies thoroughly to ensure that they are reputable and the dogs are healthy and well-cared for before making a decision. You don't want to bring a sickly pup into your home, just to end up spending more on medical bills than you had anticipated. However, the costs don't stop there. Once you have your furry friend, ongoing expenses include food, vet bills, grooming, and more. In addition, Labs are known for their love of exploration and adventure, which means they have a penchant for getting lost. You don't want to get a new puppy with the understanding that the breed may be high maintenance, and then you lose track of your dog. The collar uses GPS and cellular technology to track your dog's location in real-time, so you can quickly locate your pet if they ever wander off. The collar also includes additional features such as activity monitoring and geofencing to alert you if your dog leaves a designated area. While the initial cost of the collar may seem high, it can save you money in the long run by preventing the loss or theft of your beloved Lab. Labrador Retriever Breed Guide Labrador Retrievers are outgoing and generally have a friendly disposition toward others. They are loyal, affectionate and make excellent family pets. They are also intelligent and easy to train, which makes them great for first-time dog owners. Due to their friendly nature, they also make excellent therapy dogs and are often used in service roles. Labrador Retrievers generally come in three colors: black, chocolate, and yellow. The coat is short, dense, and water-resistant, which makes them excellent swimmers. Labs can be medium to large dogs that weigh about 55 to 80 pounds on average, with the males usually outweighing the females by ten pounds. Typically, they're around two feet tall inches , and the males will have about a one-inch height advantage over the females. The average lifespan for a Labrador Retriever is around 12 years, although some can live up to 14 years. They are all around healthy, but like all dogs, there are specific ailments that you're more likely to encounter with a Lab, like obesity, ear infections, and hip dysplasia. As for lifetime care costs, they can vary depending on factors such as food, vet bills, and grooming expenses. There are several ways to reduce the cost of owning a Labrador Retriever. One option is to adopt a dog from a local shelter or rescue organization. Adopting a dog from a shelter is usually less expensive than buying a puppy from a breeder. Typically, dog shelters will include initial vaccinations, any spaying or neutering services needed, along with essential veterinary care up front. That helps cut down on some of the initial costs that owners usually spend when they first bring a puppy home. However, it's not uncommon that breeders will also at least include the first vaccinations for the pup upon its release to your family. Another option to reduce the cost of owning a Lab is to consider adopting an older dog instead of a puppy. Older dogs may already be trained and require less attention and socialization than a puppy, which can save on training costs and time. Moreover, older dogs may have lower veterinary bills since they may not require as many check-ups or preventative care as a puppy. Finally, another way to save money on the lifetime costs of owning a Labrador Retriever is to invest in preventative care. This includes regular exercise, a healthy diet, and regular veterinary check-ups to catch potential health issues early on. While preventive care may require an upfront investment, it can ultimately save money by avoiding expensive medical bills down the line. Final Thoughts: The Cost of Owning a Labrador Retriever Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular breeds to own, but they can be somewhat high maintenance after you bring them into your home. However, there are ways to reduce costs, such as adopting from a shelter or rescue organization, buying an older dog instead of a puppy, and being mindful of routine care costs. Regardless of the price, it's important to protect your Labrador Retriever with a GPS-tracking dog collar like the one offered by Fi, which can provide peace of mind and ensure the safety of your Lab. Get more expert advice on pet-parenting by visiting the Off Leash blog at TryFi. TryFi's The Fi Dog Collar is a must-have for any pet parent, it's a GPS tracking collar that helps you keep tabs on your dog's location, activity, and sleep patterns, and alerts you if they escape your backyard. We also recommend getting your dog spayed or neutered unless you are a professional breeder, and it might even be required as part of your contract if you purchase from a breeder. Once your dog is an adult, it will not require as many vet visits and will only need booster shots every few years, so the average monthly costs will be much lower. Experts recommend getting all of the shots, but your dog is only legally required to get the rabies shot. We recommend purchasing a high-quality brand with real meat like chicken, turkey, or salmon listed as the first ingredient. The protein in meat will help build muscle and provide the energy your dog needs to stay healthy. High protein diets will also help your dog stay full longer, and it will be less likely to come looking for food. Foods with corn as the top ingredient are mostly empty calories that will leave your pet feeling hungry and looking for more food, potentially causing it to become obese. During the shedding seasons of spring and fall, you will likely need to increase the brushing to several times a week to help keep the fur off your furniture and floor. Professional grooming can also help with teeth brushing and nail clipping. This medication can also help prevent heartworm. Spot Pet Insurance offers customizable plans that you can adapt to your breed's specific needs. Many people forgo pet insurance, but it can be a great way to protect yourself from a huge expense while making sure your Labrador Retriever has the best healthcare possible. Accidents and serious illnesses can occur at any time, and many procedures can cost thousands of dollars which makes the price of insurance more than worth it, especially if you get it while your dog is still a puppy. It can chew up stuffed animals quickly, so they can get expensive, but there are plenty of options for a chewing dog, like the Lab. Another option is to purchase a subscription to a monthly service like the Bark Box that sends your dog new toys and activities for as long as you keep up your subscription. A full-grown dog only requires food and flea and tick medication to stay healthy, a few toys to play with, and treats here and there. Additional Costs to Factor In If you like to go on long vacations, you might need to factor in the additional costs of traveling with a dog. Many rental cars do not allow pets or will charge you extra, and the same is true for hotels. Owning a Labrador Retriever on a Budget Your Labrador Retriever will be relatively inexpensive once you get the medical things out of the way. A high-quality food may seem more expensive, but it will help keep your dog full so that it will eat less. Image Credit: Pixel-Shot, Shutterstock Saving Money on Labrador Retriever Care The best way to save money on healthcare when raising your Labrador Retriever is to keep it a healthy weight by following portion recommendations on the food you serve and by helping them get enough exercise. Obesity can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and other health issues that can shorten the lifespan of your pet. After the initial cost of the puppy , you will need to pay a few hundred dollars to get it spayed or neutered and get the shots it needs. After that, you will only need to provide food and shelter with the occasional booster shot. We hope you have enjoyed reading over this guide, and that it has helped answer your questions. If we have helped you create a budget that allows you to get one of these amazing pets, please share this guide on how much it costs to own a Labrador Retriever on social media. Featured Image Credit: scott, Pixabay Contents. Are they good family dogs? Labrador Dog Price — The Costs Involved Buying a Labrador is not just a question of the purchase price of a Lab puppy, though of course that is important. There are other costs involved, both financial, emotional and in terms of time and effort. So we need to look at those too. You may be wondering whether you will have the time for a dog, and if you have the space and energy for a large and lively breed? But this page will take you back to the fundamental considerations, to help you to make the right choice for you and your family. Do you have time for a dog? Can you afford a dog? What about your lifestyle? Will a dog fit in with your family? Is a Labrador the right dog for you? These questions all apply regardless of the type of Labrador you are looking for. The needs of a black Lab, yellow Lab or chocolate Lab are all the same in these respects. The same goes for an English or American Labrador too. Dogs need space, both indoors and outside. Even small breeds need room to stretch their legs and run about. And Labradors as fairly large and lively dogs need quite a lot of space. This means you need a decent sized backyard if you plan on buying a Labrador puppy. Somewhere that your Lab dog can run around, play and enjoy training sessions with you. Labradors can be quite silly during adolescence, bouncing and cavorting in the home. Their tails are long and thick, easily knocking any fragile decorations you might have from shelves. If you have lots of ornaments then you will need to move them to higher shelves to avoid them getting damaged. You will also need to move anything that could be easily damaged by chewing. With small puppies this will be very often indeed. Perhaps every 15 to 20 minutes during their first few days with you. If you live in a flat, or do not have a garden, this will be difficult for you. These are helpful but do take up a lot of space. Although this will take up a lot of space indoors, it can work very well for larger apartments with no easy outside access. Ideally however you do need to have a garden, and a part of the garden which your dog can use as a bathroom, along with a good system for clearing up after him hygienically. Space is key for a Lab dog! The right space for a Labrador includes large clear rooms in the house, with no breakable or fragile objects within his grasp. And ideally access to a garden where they can easily be let out to the bathroom and have room to play. Keeping a single Labrador permanently outside however is not usually a good idea, even with adequate shelter and security. Labs are very sociable dogs and prone to separation anxiety if they lack company. This means your dog may be both sad and noisy. It is always sad to hear from new puppy owners that are struggling to juggle the needs of a puppy with their need to work. These articles will help you to deal with this common issue. Even with a visit at lunch time. An older dog may cope with being left for up to four hours in row on a regular basis, but puppies need more attention than this. Contented Labradors are fairly quiet dogs and unlikely to disturb your neighbors. Nor are they very good guard dogs. However, lonely dogs bark and wreck things. If you work all day, can you afford to pay someone to come in and let him out to stretch his legs and empty himself? Or do you have a relative or friend that would be prepared to do this on a regular basis. Bear in mind that this is quite a lot to ask of anyone in the long term. The biggest long term time commitment in owning a dog is in the form of training and exercise. Training Takes Time All dogs need training in order that they can rub along in human society without being a complete nuisance. This means a regular daily commitment of ten to twenty minutes from you, in addition to your regular interaction with the dog. Training cannot be saved up for the weekend, your dog will have forgotten most of what he learnt the weekend before, and he does not have the attention span to concentrate on you for an hour and a half. You can find out more about training your Labrador puppy here. Staying Fit Exercise is required on a regular basis, for some breeds of dog this means at least an hour a day of walking or jogging to keep your dog fit and healthy. You can find out more about the exercise requirements of a Labrador puppy here. Whilst your dog will not come to any harm if you miss a day occasionally, a daily routine is often the best way to ensure that you build this important habit. Can You Afford A Dog? Dogs can be quite expensive to run. You need to consider not only how much a Labrador will cost you to buy, but also how much it will cost you to keep. How much do Labradors cost from breeders? The price of a Labrador puppy will vary from breeder to breeder, and from place to place. Perhaps you know a friend that has a litter of puppies and they are going to let you have one for free. However, the purchase price of a dog is almost irrelevant. It is such a small part of the final cost. The cost of keeping a Labrador The reality is, you are also going to need to fork out a chunk of your wages each week on keeping your pooch happy and healthy. Obviously you will have taken the cost of a good brand of Labrador puppy food into consideration. It is a good idea to budget for veterinary insurance too. Not because it is unreasonably priced, but simply because it is now so advanced. You can fix a lot of problems these days. We can do open heart surgery, mend complex fractures, treat cancer with radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Pretty much anything you can treat in a human, you can now treat in a dog. And the catch? It costs. The more comprehensive your insurance package the more it will cost. Watch out for very cheap deals, as they may not provide continuing cover for long term ailments. You will also need to vaccinate your dog against common canine illness , and this will probably need to be done each year too. Especially if you are wanting to occasionally leave them in boarding kennels when you go away, as they require up to date vaccination certificates. Labrador Puppy Costs There will be a few other one-off costs such as a puppy crate and puppy play pen for your home for when your dog is young, another for your car if you have one. Then there are bowls, bedding, collar, leash etc. But you may be able to borrow a crate or get one second hand. Here are some of the items you will need for your new Labrador puppy, and reviews on the best options for Labradors:. Over the years, this breed of dog has consistently ranked in the top five for most popular dog breeds. In fact, for nearly 31 years, the Labrador Retriever was ranked as the number one most popular dog before getting knocked out of the number one spot this year by the French Bulldog. And with this breed, often referred to as simple the Lab, remaining high on the list for most searched for and most loved dog, we want to know how much it costs to own one. What are the costs associated with these dogs, from actually getting the puppy to feeding them and beyond. How much does it cost to own a Labrador Retriever? Crufts returns this year after it was cancelled last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. And we should also point out that a Chocolate Lab is going to cost more than a Black Lab or a Yellow Lab since this color of fur is rarer. Next, we have to talk about feeding your Lab. Considering the Labrador Retriever is medium to large breed dog and often on the larger side of things , you are looking at a diet that may cost a bit more. Now we have to talk about those vet visits. That being said, there are some health concerns that all Labrador Retrievers may face over the course of their lives our pup was lucky enough to not have to deal with these issues, although he did have to have his eyelids fixed as a puppy and that can significantly increase their vet bills. Finally, you will absolutely want to consider grooming when it comes to your Lab as they are another breed that has a double coat. Of course, dog toys, beds and other supplies are also a must for your pup, so these are added expenses that should also be considered. However, if you have ever owned a Lab, you know they are absolutely worth the cost. How Much Does a Labrador Cost? And, this is just the upfront cost of the puppy. This includes the cost of food, veterinary bills, grooming, bedding, and so on. Labrador puppy costs depend on a few factors. Quality of the breeder Quality of the parent dogs Type of Labrador eg. For instance, puppy prices tend to be higher before Christmas, so buy a puppy in the spring, instead. Originally, black Labs were favored above other colors. Brown and yellow Labs were extremely uncommon, and were not at all desirable. Over time, this opinion changed and brown and yellow Labs became more accepted. Shooting communities still tend to prefer the black Lab, but yellow Labs are very common in other working roles, like as therapy dogs and guide dogs. On the whole, each official Labrador color will cost a similar amount. But, yellow and brown Labs may cost slightly more than black Labs, since the genes that cause their coloring are recessive and therefore are less common. Non-Standard Colors Labrador costs can be hugely increased or reduced by non standard colors or patterns. For instance, dilute shades or mismarks. Dilute coloring is recessive and highly controversial in the Labrador community. The genes that cause these shades will dilute pigmentation, turning black Labs into charcoal Labs, chocolate Labs into silver Labs, and yellow Labs into champagne Labs. Some believe this color results from cross-breeding. But, others believe the recessive genes simply remained hidden over generations, like original yellow and chocolate coloring. Dilute colors are not accepted in the official breed standard. So, many breeders will not adjust their price, and may even lower it for unexpected dilute puppies. The same is the case with mismarks. Mismarks can include white patches and spots, brindling, and even tan markings. Extensive mismarks will disqualify a Lab from show. Show type Labs are bred to fit the Labrador breed standard. They are usually slightly stockier and less active than field types. Field types are more often bred for their working ability than for any specific appearance. Labradors cost more when they are bred to show standards. Field Labs tend to be cheaper than Labradors bred for show. But, you should consider which type is best for you, rather than just going for the cheapest Labrador you can find. Field type Labs can be much more energetic and active than show types. First time owners may find the English Lab slightly easier to raise and train! Conversely, Labrador costs can be highest with field trial champion bred dogs that are likely to win awards. Labrador Costs From Breeders vs Shelters Labrador puppies from reputable breeders will cost more than dogs from a rescue center. Whilst Labs from breeders can cost thousands of dollars, Labradors from rescue centers can only be a few hundred dollars. A major difference between Labs from a breeder and Labs from a rescue center is the history of the dogs. Puppies from a breeder will stay with their mom and siblings until 8 weeks old. At 8 weeks, puppies can go to their new home. Rescue center dogs can have unknown histories, or even histories that involve abuse. Labs from rescue centers are usually older, and have often lived with other families. However, many Labs are given up for non-behavioral reasons. They can be just as wonderful pets as puppies from a breeder. And, many dogs from rescue centers will have basic training, including house training, obedience, and potentially recall. Why Are Breeders So Expensive? Reputable breeders tend to cost more than any other puppy source. Breeders have to spend a lot when breeding a litter, and all of this will lower their profit margins. Labrador breeding costs include: Health testing and certificates. Less - The Labrador Retriever is a medium to large-sized , short-coupled, powerfully-built dog with a short, dense, water-resistant coat; small, drop ears; and a short, thick otter-like tail carried level with the back or with a slight upward curve. The length of body is equal to or only slightly longer than the height at the withers, and the distance from the elbows to the ground is equal to one-half the height at the withers. Balance, outline, intelligence, temperament and movement are of overriding importance. The Labrador Retriever is a breed of moderation, thoroughly sound, and willing and able to do its work. The Labrador Retriever is a dog without exaggeration, so light, weedy dogs; long, low-stationed dogs; and cloddy, lumbering dogs are to be equally penalized. The Labrador Retriever is an enthusiastic hunter with a good nose and a soft mouth. They excel in all performance activities. Another essential characteristic of the Labrador Retriever is the short, dense, double coat that protects the dog when retrieving from water. Labrador Retrievers are noted for their excellent temperaments. This breed is friendly, outgoing and eager to please. They are extremely intelligent and easily trained to perform a variety of complex tasks. These dogs were brought to England, probably on fishing boats. Originally black in color, the first recorded yellow Labrador appeared in a litter born in .Chocolates were also recorded at about the same time, but never achieved the same level of popularity as the blacks and yellows. Originally bred to retrieve from water, the modern Labrador Retriever has proven to be one of the most versatile breeds, excelling in hunt tests and field trials, in obedience and agility events, and also as service dogs.

It is also good to trim their nails about twice per month. French Bulldog puppies are energetic and growing rapidly, which means they need frequent meals throughout the day. It is recommended to feed them three to four times daily until they reach six months of age. This regular feeding schedule helps maintain their energy levels and supports proper growth. Follow the recommended portion sizes based on their age and weight. Different brands may have specific guidelines tailored for French Bulldog puppies or small breed puppies in general. For puppies aged weeks: 1 cup of food per meal. Victor Ocean Fish All Life Stages Dog Food Remember that these portions can vary depending on individual factors such as activity level and metabolism. Adjust the portion sizes accordingly if you notice significant weight gain or loss. Monitor their weight gain and adjust feeding amounts accordingly. While puppies naturally gain weight as they grow, excessive weight gain can lead to health issues such as joint problems. Keep an eye on their body condition and consult with your veterinarian if you have concerns about their weight. If your puppy is gaining too much weight, consider reducing the portion sizes slightly or switching to a lower-calorie puppy food formula. On the other hand, if they are not gaining enough weight or appear undernourished, consult with your vet to determine if an increase in portion size or a different type of food is necessary. By following these feeding guidelines, you can ensure that your French Bulldog puppy receives the nutrition they need during this crucial stage of growth. Providing proper nutrition will help set the foundation for a healthy and happy adult French Bulldog. Feeding your Frenchie the wrong food can lead to serious health issues and discomfort. Chocolate contains theobromine, which can be highly toxic for dogs. Even small amounts can cause symptoms like restlessness, increased heart rate, vomiting, diarrhea, and in severe cases, seizures or even death. Onions and Garlic: A Recipe for Anemia While onions and garlic might add flavor to our meals, they pose a significant risk to our four-legged companions. This could lead to anemia and potentially life-threatening complications for your French Bulldog. The exact reason behind this toxicity is still unknown; however, ingestion of these fruits has been linked to kidney failure in some dogs. Xylitol: Sweetness Turns Sour Xylitol is an artificial sweetener commonly found in sugar-free products like gum or candy. While it may be harmless for humans, it can be extremely dangerous for dogs. If ingested by your French Bulldog, xylitol can cause a sudden release of insulin, leading to a rapid drop in blood sugar levels. This can result in seizures, liver failure, or even death. Opt for high-quality dog food specifically formulated for their needs. Look for options that include meat protein sources like chicken or salmon, as these are beneficial for their muscle development and overall health. Make sure the food you choose contains adequate amounts of vitamins and fatty acids to promote healthy skin and coat. Avoid foods with excessive fat content that could lead to weight gain or digestive issues such as loose stools. Stick to dog-friendly fruits and veggies as treats instead. Chicken fat as dog food High-fat meats, chicken skin and fat from steaks or roasts are not recommended. Ingestion may lead to gastrointestinal upset or even pancreatitis. This can be a very painful condition for dogs. Providing a healthy diet is essential for their overall health and well-being. Opting for lean proteins like chicken and turkey ensures they receive high-quality nutrients without excessive fat content. These proteins promote muscle development, support growth, and provide essential amino acids for overall health. Opt for natural alternatives that are free from these artificial additives. Whole Grains: Nourishing Carbohydrate Sources Carbohydrates play a role in providing energy to your puppy. However, not all carbohydrates are created equal. Instead of fillers like corn or wheat that offer limited nutritional value, look for whole grains such as brown rice or oats. These whole food ingredients provide fiber, vitamins, minerals while promoting steady energy levels throughout the day. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Promoting Healthy Skin and Coat To maintain healthy skin and a lustrous coat on your furry friend, incorporate omega-3 fatty acids into their diet. Sources like fish oil offer an abundance of these beneficial fats that nourish their skin from within. Not only do omega-3s contribute to a shiny coat but they also help reduce inflammation and support healthy skin and overall health. By opting for lean proteins, avoiding artificial additives, incorporating whole grains, and including omega-3 fatty acids, you are providing the essential nutrients they need to thrive. Remember, a healthy diet sets the foundation for a happy and active French Bulldog. So be mindful of what goes into their food bowl to ensure they grow up strong and free from unnecessary health problems. Now that you understand the importance of healthy ingredients in food, you can make informed choices when selecting the very best dog food options for your furry companion. Obesity can lead to various health problems such as joint issues, heart disease, and respiratory difficulties. To keep track of their weight effectively, consider using a digital scale designed for pets or consult with your veterinarian. Adjusting Portion Sizes French Bulldogs have different dietary requirements based on their activity level and age. Puppies require more calories and nutrients to support their growth and development compared to adult dogs. To determine the appropriate portion size for your puppy or adult dog, consider consulting with animal nutritionists or your veterinarian. They can provide personalized recommendations based on factors such as breed-specific needs and individual metabolism. Excessive treats can contribute to weight gain if not properly regulated. Instead of relying solely on treats for positive reinforcement, try using praise or playtime as alternative rewards. Be mindful of the calorie content in both regular meals and treats. Opt for healthier options like small pieces of lean meat or fruits and vegetables that are safe for dogs. You could even use it as a meal topper to make meal time more fun. Feeding is an evergreen topic among Frenchie parents in our Facebook group. They know they should feed their puppy with high-quality premium dog food to keep their baby healthy and fit, but they are left puzzled when they see the plethora of different choices. The answer is actually quite simple: every Frenchie is different and what works for one puppy may unfortunately cause problems for the other. The best French Bulldog breeders will always give you advice on how to continue feeding your puppy once you welcome them home. So what are the most important things to consider while trying to find the perfect food for your Frenchie? Read on to find out! The quality of dog food is always determined by the percentage of its protein content, in other words, the amount of meat or fish it contains. So what should you pay attention to when looking at the ingredients list? This could be beef, lamb, salmon, or any other type of meat. The list usually ends with some sort of animal fat, vegetables, and fruits. Jasper, available French Bulldog puppy at TomKings Puppies Any other ingredient not mentioned above is only included to increase the volume of the dog food and to ensure the most economical production possible. So, if you see that a food contains an unrealistic amount of filler ingredients like wheat, corn, or chemical preservatives, it is definitely not a suitable and healthy choice for your Frenchie. Dog foods without chicken and grains A question that always comes up when choosing the right food for a Frenchie is whether it has to be chicken or grain-free. For that reason, we usually recommend giving chicken and grain-free food right from the start to avoid any possible problems. Makayla, French Bulldog puppy at TomKings Puppies That means that if you look at the list of ingredients, you can find companies whose food meets all the criteria we mentioned above and is much more affordable. Like with so many things, the name is not everything! On the other hand, if the kibble is too large they will have difficulties consuming the food. The flavor of the dog food When looking at dog foods, you can choose from lots of different flavors like a lamb, fish, beef, duck, etc. If one of the foods from a particular brand works fine for your Frenchie, the flavors can and should be changed as long as they have the same nutritional values. A varied diet is important not only for humans but dogs as well, not to mention that your fur baby will be very happy to taste some new flavors. The stool of your Frenchie A very important criterion and perhaps the best indicator of the given food is suitable for your Frenchie is their stool. A healthy stool should always be completely solid, which means you can easily collect it with a bag. You should always ensure a smooth transition by gradually mixing in more and more of the new food with the old to avoid any dietary issues. Signs of a food allergy in your Frenchie We have already mentioned that Frenchies tend to be allergic to chicken, but what are the actual signs of a food allergy? The most common symptoms include scratching, hair loss, dull lifeless fur, inflamed eyes and ears often with some discharge, paw licking, swelling, but also vomiting, and loose stools. You may not notice all of these and the degree to which they occur may also vary. Any of these symptoms indicate that an immediate change of diet is necessary, about which you should always consult your vet first. Eating a bit more slowly and with less appetite are usually signs telling you to cut out the middle meal. As for the amount, nice-looking French Bulldogs are a bit stockier, so you should always increase and lower the amount of their food with that in mind. Best food for French Bulldogs with skin allergies If your French Bulldog has skin allergies, it is important to choose a diet that is specially formulated to help support skin health and minimize potential allergens. Consultation with a veterinarian is also recommended to determine the best course of action. Some high-quality dog food brands offer special formulas that are designed for dogs with skin allergies. These foods typically contain limited ingredients and exclude common allergens such as wheat, soy, chicken, and dairy products. Instead, they may use alternative protein sources such as fish or venison and may contain added omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids to help support skin health. Some veterinarians may also recommend prescription diets that are formulated specifically to manage skin allergies in dogs. These diets may contain hydrolyzed proteins, which have been broken down into smaller components to minimize the risk of an allergic reaction. Even though processed dog foods might not look healthy to us, they actually contain all the nutrients that Frenchies need to stay healthy. Home-made and raw diets like B. Should I opt for dry kibble or canned wet food? Wet foods are of course more appealing to dogs, which means they get used to them easily and will not want to eat dry food again. We incur significant expenses in paying redemption fees, veterinary fees, transportation costs, boarding, and food costs and ask for an adoption donation for each dog. Rescuing an animal is a commitment. They are not perfect, and in most cases ROF will have limited information about the dog's history. ROF makes its placements based on our evaluation of the dogs, and decades of experience handling dogs and matching dogs to appropriate owners. In addition, we rely on the information provided by our prospective adopters; honesty is the best policy when discussing a potential rescue. Despite the number of dogs in need of homes, it may be that ROF does not have a rescue suitable for your particular situation. Children and other pets are but a few factors that we consider in placing a rescue. The determination to place or not to place any animal is made in ROF's sole discretion. We are advocates for the animals, and it is our goal to do what is best for the dog. Your new companion may have accidents, bark, jump, chew or require regular exercise. No dog is perfect and even a good natured, obedient and trained dog may create stress in the home initially. Please keep in mind that you may love your new pet on Day 1, but it may take some time for your new family member to feel secure in their new environment. Be respectful that you are a stranger to them and not do too much too soon. A crate is an excellent tool for training; we recommend continued crate training as part of a successful transition into your home. These are just some of the things ROF expects potential adopters to consider before making the decision to rescue. ROF offers a six week basic obedience class that runs consecutively year round. Our main priority is ensuring the health and well-being of all our puppies from birth until they leave with their forever family - and beyond. If we do not think your home is the best place for them, we will redirect you to a different Pet Breeder who might be a better fit. To reserve an animal, please get in touch.
