Puppy within a couple of weeks started having loose stools to explosive diarrhea when we brought him home. After visit to vets and antibiotics vet recommended we switched to this food slowly with a bland diet. Doing fabulous on this food and he is growing appropriately. Kibbles are a great size. Using the food also as training treats. Chewy was awesome to work with to get his previous full bag of food donated to a no kill shelter. Only food we recommend to our buyers and also to others. They love this kibble so much, they are growing big and strong. As a dog family, we are very Impressed with Royal Canin as a brand; their older sister is on a Prescription Diet with Royal Canin as well so we have switched all of our food over to them. Cannot recommend them enough! I have always fed our Dogs Royal Canin and they did great. Had a German Shepherd that lived to almost 15 years old which I attribute to good food, exercise and love. Our puppy is thriving now. She eats every single feeding, no more diarrhea and she is growing well. My puppy loves it and prefers it over the Purina Pro Plan puppy lamb that his breeder started him on, I've been making the transition and he really likes it. Royal Canin always smells fresh and like real food when you open the bag! A good sign! I have a new puppy and she was having soft stools on the food the breeder was using. I switched her to this and fixed the problem. It took me forever to pick a food, but happy I picked this one. I use it for training treats also. How could I not give this puppy food 5 stars? Breeder started our puppy on this food and then gave us the other option of Purina Pro Plan. My thought was to gradually switch to the Purina based on the cost difference. I tried but even with mixing half and half, we had diarrhea all over in a puppy that was already housebroken. I donated the huge bag of Purina and switched back to Royal Canin and the problem was resolved. Lesson learned and the extra cost is totally worth it. Starch is also required for extrusion in dry foods. Excessive carbohydrate is an indicator of food quality as it can be used to reduce manufacturing cost. Foods that are high in carbohydrate can raise insulin and cause obesity. Some studies also show that dogs fed a high carbohydrate content have changes to their gut bacteria. Studies shows that ultra processed foods are linked to a higher rate of all-cause mortality in humans. Natural antioxidants like mixed tocopherols are preferred as artificial antioxidants have limited toxicity studies and may be linked to cancer. If your dog is suffering some kind of health issue like renal, urinary, gastro, or diabetes, these formulas will address the concerns of those illnesses with a specially tailored recipe. Price is also a factor, as neither of these brands are cheap. When should I feed Royal Canin? Even with conditions such as diabetes and renal disease, you must ask yourself these same questions. Wet or Dry? Wet food is generally better than dry, and the process offers more digestible food for our dogs. Wet food has no abrasiveness, and dry foods are also questionable — dental formulas merely contain additives to fight plaque. Some Australian vets promote Raw Meaty Bones in this respect, and I tend to agree with them completely — the gnawing and chewing action I see as a far more natural way for your dog to retain great dental health which also wards off other disease. Breed specific formulas are an excellent marketing angle for Royal Canin, but make sure you read the ingredients and consider if they sound good for your dog! The 2nd and 3rd ingredients are maize and… more maize. So very likely more maize than poultry protein as the 1st ingredient. The 4th ingredient is wheat flour. If you consider your dog a meat-eater like I do, then this seems a bit odd, does it not? We can consider maize flour and maize the same thing, so a classic case of ingredient splitting. On the subject of wheat, I find this a common cause of skin and health problems in dogs, and a possible precursor to your vet prescribing Royal Canin Anallergenic to address the issues when they arise clever, eh? It was at a dog show held in a downtown parking garage in my hometown. A stranger let me take one of her Rottie pups around the Jr ring. I found the breed that touched my heart in the show ring! At the first opportunity I had, I became a proud Rottie owner, even though my very first heart dog was a spur of the moment flea market purchase. Guess what? My second heart dog was also a Rottie but from a health tested champion line. Her parents came from a Breeder of Merit, where lines were imported from Germany. I was devastated when I lost her at 10 months old due to an unpreventable heart condition. It was a recessive condition that was undetectable in her parents. She died in my arms just days before Christmas .I was still grieving my Georgia, but I took a chance. It led me to a new passion. I fell in love with the poodle breed. Let it be our little secret that my Rotties were terrible guard dogs, and my poodles actually excel at it! My current biggest male will not let a stranger in the door! I affectionately think of Poodles as fluffy Rottweilers in disguise. They have both a serious side and a goofy one. And the bonus? Empowered Puppies My goal for my breeding program is to breed puppies who are extremely confident and prepared for the unpredictable scenarios life brings. I incorporate a combination of Badass Breeder and Puppy Culture curriculums into my program. I incorporate the practices of these comprehensive programs during the first eight weeks of the lives of our puppies. While I am working towards entering the show ring with Poodles, it helps that I have 16 years experience professionally grooming with my own home based grooming salon. I am an active members of the local AKC Obedience club and continually have our dogs involved in something. I completed my personal goal to get a Poodle into a Show Ring by the end of .Maybe one day I can inspire a show attendee to fall in love with a poodle just as I did.
