But those first weeks of puppy development are very similar whatever the breed, and these landmarks are good general rules for any dog. Puppy development week by week, changes quickly. Newborn Puppies Newborn puppies are born at the end of nine weeks of pregnancy, with their eyes and ears tightly closed. They already have a fur coat but they cannot yet control their own body temperature. They are dependent on their mother or another heat source to keep them warm. Newborn puppies may cry if cold. But they do not have the strength to cry for long. Newborn Labrador puppies snuggle together to keep warm when their mother is away How Helpless are Newborn Pups? Although they rely on mom for a lot at this stage, newborn puppies are not completely helpless. They can use their front feet to drag themselves towards a heat source or their milk supply. This means their mom, not milk alternatives like cow or goat milk. Newborn pups have no teeth yet. But they can move their heads about to search for a nipple, and they can latch on and suck strongly. Their mother leaves them only to eat, drink and for bathroom purposes. While she is away, the puppies will crawl together to preserve their body heat, as you can see in the photo above. They may also crawl under a heat lamp source to keep warm. In every other respect newborn puppies are completely dependent on the care of their mother. Newborn pups have little control over the rear end of their bodies. The mother dog washes them and licks their bottoms to encourage elimination, licking up and swallowing anything they produce to keep her babies and their nest scrupulously clean. In fact, he may even double his birth weight! One week later and the puppies have doubled their birth weight. Changes are taking place under his eyelids to prepare them for opening. And usually begins during the second week of life. Ears open at this point too, so your puppy will begin to hear. The Labrador puppies in this picture are two weeks olds. Two weeks old and the puppies eyes are now open! You can see that their eyes are now open and the puppies are beginning to look a little more dog-like. The breeder will be handling the puppies more now. And most puppies are wormed for the first time at two weeks old. Most 3 week old puppies can stand and sit, and are beginning to totter about. They are also starting to develop their individuality. No longer are they just a row of identical little fat furry sausages! This little three week old puppy :- Can easily be distinguished from his brother: Teething and Further Development At 3 weeks old, this is also the point at which puppies start teething — cutting their first deciduous baby teeth. Obviously the teeth are appearing for a reason! Some breeders will start to offer the first tastes of solid food at this point. Especially if the litter is a large one and putting a strain on the mother dog. It is lovely to watch a litter of 3 week old puppies beginning to interact with their brothers and sisters. They are running, playing enthusiastically, and have started to wag their little tails. The puppies will start to show bowel control as they move away from the other puppies to defecate. And solid food is becoming a major part of their diet. These little pups are tucking into some puppy food. Four week old puppies having their dinner in the fresh air If the weather is warm enough, puppies will be spending some time outdoors now. Mealtimes are a messy process, so feeding puppies out in the yard can be a good idea. Breeder Involvement Some mother dogs will lose interest in cleaning up after their pups at this point or soon afterwards. And many puppies will be wormed again this week. Vocalizations are becoming stronger at this puppy development stage. The litter will greet their mother noisily when she returns to them, and try hard to follow her out of the whelping box whenever she leaves. The puppies themselves are now eating solid food several times a day and gradually being weaned of their dependency on her milk. Puppies will still suckle ravenously when their mother returns and she will now often feed them standing up and only for a short time. She will also be teaching the puppies not to bite too hard. So, they should be increasingly spending time with humans and learning to be familiar with the sounds and sights of a human family environment. Puppies being raised in kennels must be brought into a home environment regularly from now on to ensure they develop into confident, friendly dogs. Six weeks old and full of mischief Puppies Still Have a Lot to Learn at 6 Weeks In some countries, puppies are taken to their new homes at this age. But this is not a good idea, and can result in a puppy that has poor bite inhibition and is challenging to manage. The puppies are learning not to bite too hard from the reactions of their mother and siblings. Growth is not quite so fast now. But the puppies will still grow strongly for the next few months. Many puppies will be wormed again this week. All that remains is for plenty of great socialization experiences to be packed into this week, with final checks on health. Many breeders will arrange for each seven week old puppy to have a vet check this week. And though some vets advise against it, some puppies are also given their first vaccinations before they leave for their new homes. Some breeders will now have the puppies trained to pee and poop on puppy pads or newspaper. And some will have been whistling to the puppies at meal times to get them used to coming to a human signal. Potty training is now underway and puppy socialization plans are being made. At this point, many of you will be thinking about training your puppy too. The next four weeks are vital in puppy development stages. Your main job is socializing your puppy. This means taking him to lots of new places and exposing him to lots of new experiences. So, life will be starting to get back to normal. Most puppies in the U. In the U. So, not all puppies will get their vaccinations at the exact same age. Socializing your puppy is still the most important job for you at this age. But, you cannot put your puppy on the ground outside until they have received their final vaccination. So, make sure you know exactly when their final jab is. And carry on introducing them to as many new people, things, and experiences as possible throughout this puppy development stage. Some people can suffer from the puppy blues at this stage too, as your life has completely changed! But, that does not mean socialization can stop. Puppies who are isolated at this point will soon lose that friendly fearlessness. You have an important job now, building on what has been achieved so far, and introducing your puppy to the world at ground level. This part of his education can begin once his vaccination cover is complete. He should be fully immunised at around this point. But check with your vet for confirmation of the actual date. Three months also marks the point at which many puppies will drop down from four daily meals, to three. This can cause problems for some puppies because the portions are larger If your puppy gets an upset tummy when you make this change, just go back up to four meals again for a few days, and give smaller portions for a few days when you try again. But, many will need another month before they can cope without frequent bathroom breaks and the occasional accident. Your puppy will begin to lose his baby teeth. This can also be a time at which biting can be most challenging. And try not to worry, this stage will soon be over! A few will need another month or two to complete the process. Remember, no two puppies are the same. That puppy fluffiness will have gone. For many puppies, five months is an awkward, gangly time. A five month old puppy may have shed the last of his soft puppy lines and be looking quite skinny. By the end of this month most puppies will have finished teething but an urge to chew may continue for another few months in some breeds, Labradors included. Some female dogs will have their first season during this month. But, for many, it will be another three or four months before this happens. This is a major milestone for your puppy. He is now looking very much like an adult Labrador. Still a Puppy Because he looks quite grown up, people expect a lot of their 6 month old puppy. But inside, he is still very much a puppy. The beginnings of adolescence and with it an increasing independence of spirit can bring its challenges, but also a whole lot of fun. Five to six weeks and beyond. A Baby Labrador is born! Labrador litter sizes can range from , but on average consist of seven puppies. Therefore, your baby Labrador will have around six siblings. Newborn Labradors Baby Labradors are born covered in fur that will be black, yellow or chocolate. Less frequent colors are charcoal, silver and champagne. Their ears and eyes will be closed meaning they are unable to hear or see anything. Apart from snuggling up to its siblings and its mother, your baby Labrador will spend most of its time resting and nursing. One week old baby Labrador Your baby Labrador gains a healthy amount of weight during its first week of life and should now look a bit bigger. Its front leg muscles will be slightly more developed allowing it to pull itself towards its mother for milk. It will still spend most of its time resting, snuggling and nursing. Rapid weight gain and growth should continue to take place and the muscles in the legs will become increasingly stronger. Your two-week-old baby Labrador will still not be able to regulate its own body heat, so will spend most of the day close to its mother. Not only do baby Labradors rely on their mothers for heat; they also rely on them to encourage bowel and bladder movements. This is the time when its individuality will begin to stand out. Its ear canals and eyes will be completely open, allowing it to see and hear its surroundings. By the end of the week, it should be able to sit up and stand. Its muscles and sense of balance will undergo a lot of development as it attempts to walk. It will be able to regulate its own body heat more effectively so will spend less time with its mother and will instead want play with its siblings. Teething begins during this time in preparation for weaning throughout the upcoming weeks. Four week old Labrador Your baby Labrador will be much larger now and will have clearer distinguishable features. Due to their lively temperaments, baby Labradors will be very active and will want to play with their siblings throughout the day. It will also be able to maintain its own body heat without aid. Back teeth will begin to come through and weaning may start during this week. Five week old baby Labrador At this age, your baby Labrador will be able to play with toys as well as its siblings. It will be more receptive to interactions with humans, allowing it to be handled more frequently. This will decrease the likelihood of it becoming fearful of humans later in life. Its mother and siblings will begin to teach it bite inhibition by vocalizing loudly when it bites too hard during playtime. Weaning should be well underway with the baby Labrador eating solid foods multiple times a day. It will be able to bark now, and may be very loud! Six week old Labrador A six-week-old baby Labrador should be fully weaned and eating several small meals of solid food a day. Apart from for play and comfort, your baby Labrador will be fully independent from its mother. It will be fairly large now and should weigh around lbs. Even though your baby Labrador has changed a lot, its immune system is still maturing rapidly. This takes up a lot of energy so it will sleep for around 18 hours a day. Most of what it learns during this stage will stick. It should continue to experience new things to reduce the risk of it become fearful in adulthood. Exposure to new sounds, sights, smells and people will have a positive impact and set them up for later in life. Your breeder may begin potty training throughout this time as the bowel and bladder muscles are mostly developed. Eight week old Labrador Your baby Labrador is ready to come to its new home! It will now weigh around lbs. It will continue to rest for the majority of the day but will be extremely active and playful when awake. Ensure you are at home for most of the day so you can give it playtime. To train your Labrador, you can use our potty training schedule to keep you on track. Teething Baby Labradors are likely to bite because they are teething at this stage. Even though they are only small, their bites can cause a lot of harm. Therefore, it is recommended you get some chew toys and carry out training to reduce the risk of potential injuries. To get more tips on how to stop a puppy from biting, you can read our article on the topic here. Nutrients such as proteins, fatty acids, and vitamins are going to be essential for your new family member to grow healthily, especially with its active temperament. There are lots of dog foods you can consider that are designed to meet the needs of your puppy, or you may wish to go the raw food route. The portions you give your baby Labrador depends on the kind of food being provided, but generally, they will need meals a day. As they are a larger breed, they need a lot of food to support their development. However, it is important to stick to the recommended portion sizes as you do not want your baby Labrador to become obese. More information can be found in our article about feeding a Labrador puppy. If you provide it with a good diet, exercise regime and lots of love, it should fit into its new family fairly quickly. Leave a Reply Your email address will not be published.

Our breeding program has earned the the highest level of accomplishments that a kennel in the United States can achieve. Nadelhaus breeds purebred German Shepherds year round and we also import both German Shepherd puppies and adults direct from Europe for our clients. Long-haired German Shepherds are technically called a long coat German Shepherd, while a short-haired German Shepherd is called a normal coat or stock coat German Shepherd. Dogs with either coat have the same physiological structure and both have double coats: an undercoat and a top coat. The only difference between the two is the top coat. The long haired German Shepherd will have a heavier top coat than the undercoat. The double coat of a German Shepherd is an important feature of the breed. The double coat weathers and insulates the dogs—it protects them from the cold in the winter and the heat in the summer. The length of the coat of a German Shepherd has no impact on its ability as a working dog. What does a long haired German Shepherd look like? The skeleton and structure of a long-haired German Shepherd will be the same as a short-haired German Shepherd. Both dogs will have an undercoat, but the difference is that the top coat of a long-haired German Shepherd will be longer. The long coat GSD has longer and silkier hair on the chest, back, face, tail, and on the backside of its legs. Short on the head, including the inside of the ears, on the front side of the legs, on the paws and toes, somewhat longer and more strongly covered in hair on the neck, almost forming a mane. On the back side of the legs the hair extends to the carpal joint or the hock and forms clear trousers on the back side of the haunches. Historically, German Shepherds originated in Germany and were native sheepdogs. He firmly believed that the standard of the German Shepherd breed should not include dogs with long hair. Throughout the s, long haired German Shepherds were considered unsuitable and unacceptable for breeding. It is important to note that long-haired German Shepherds are the result of natural genetic diversity and not a separate breed. Their long coats are an inherited trait that can occur when both parents carry the recessive long-hair gene. This gene manifests as a more luxurious and abundant coat, offering a striking contrast to the traditional short-haired German Shepherd appearance. The breeding of long-haired German Shepherds follows the same rigorous standards and principles as their short-haired counterparts. The focus remains on maintaining the breed's exceptional temperament, working abilities, and overall health. Over time, breeders recognized the value of long-haired German Shepherds and began selectively breeding them to maintain and enhance their unique characteristics. Through careful pairings and strategic breeding programs, the long-haired variety established itself as a distinct and cherished branch of the German Shepherd breed. How big do long-haired German Shepherds get? Long-haired German Shepherds are structurally the same as short-haired German Shepherds, therefore they can both grow to similar sizes. Males: inches tall, pounds Females: inches tall, pounds Since both German Shepherds are physiologically the same, they also have the same temperaments: loyal, intelligent, energetic, courageous and protective. German Shepherds are ranked 2 on the AKC Breed Popularity list and make for wonderful family companions and working dogs. How can I identify a long-haired German Shepherd puppy? In the photo below are two litter mates from a recent Nadelhaus litter. The puppy on the left is a long coat and the puppy on the right is a normal coat. The long coat has wispier hair on the chest, back, face, tail, and on the backside of its legs. Long-hair female German Shepherd next to short-hair male German Shepherd. Genetically in German Shepherds, the short hair gene is dominant and the long hair gene is recessive. This means if two short-haired German Shepherds are mated, but neither carries the recessive long hair gene, then no long haired puppies can be produced. However, if two short-haired German Shepherds are mated and both carry the recessive gene, then long-haired German Shepherd puppies can be produced. Long-haired German Shepherds are considered a less common variant of the breed, adding to their allure and exclusivity. While short-haired German Shepherds dominate the breed standard, enthusiasts of long-haired Shepherds appreciate their unique beauty and elegant appearance. Due to their rarity, finding a reputable breeder or rescue organization specializing in long-haired German Shepherds may require some research and patience. However, the joy of owning one of these beautiful dogs is well worth the effort for those who appreciate their longer coats and exceptional qualities. Do long-haired German Shepherds shed more than short-haired German Shepherds? No, this is a common misconception. Although they shed less than short haired German Shepherds, their coats still require regular maintenance. They will need regular brushing and grooming, especially if you enjoy hiking or outdoor activities with your GSD. While it is a rare occurrence for a long-haired GSD to not have an undercoat, most of them do have undercoats. And just like short-haired GSDs, their undercoats will shed more or less throughout the year depending on the season. Should I trim my long haired German Shepherd's coat? The decision to trim a long haired German Shepherd comes down to personal preference, but it is not a necessity. Trimming can help make for more manageable living around the house. If you choose to trim, you can trim around the backs of the ears, on the back of the legs both front and back and then thin the bushy tail. Shaving a German Shepherd on the other hand is never recommended. Their double coats help keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. What are long haired German Shepherds called? Regular brushing: Long-haired German Shepherds require regular brushing to prevent matting and tangles. Aim for at least a few brushing sessions per week to keep their coat in good condition. Finish your brushing session with a gentle dog brush to clean up loose hairs. Bathing and drying: It's important to bathe your long-haired German Shepherd as needed, using a dog-specific shampoo. Be sure to thoroughly rinse out all the shampoo to prevent any residue. After bathing, use a high-velocity dryer or a cool air dryer to dry their coat thoroughly, as moisture trapped in the fur can lead to skin issues. Professional grooming: Consider taking your long-haired German Shepherd to a professional groomer for occasional trimming and coat maintenance. A groomer can help keep the fur around sensitive areas, such as the paws and ears, tidy and reduce the chances of matting. Watch for seasonal shedding: Like all German Shepherds, long-haired ones will undergo shedding seasons. Be prepared for increased shedding during these times and brush your dog more frequently to remove loose hair. A de-shedding tool can be helpful in managing shedding and keeping their coat healthy. Remember, each dog is unique, and the specific care requirements may vary. Does Nadelhaus sell long haired German Shepherd puppies? Long Haired German Shepherd Adults For most people it's probably fairly easy to determine what a long coat German Shepherd is - it simply refers to the length of their fur. It doesn't mean long coats have any problems - far from it, and for many people they are an even more desirable dog than the standard breed German Shepherd. Long haired German Shepherds look incredibly handsome, and if you're happy with the additional effort required in grooming them and keeping their hair in good condition then they're as loyal and obedient as any other German Shepherd. With our private courier service, we can safely deliver your puppy to all fifty states with utmost love and care. More information here on the long-coat puppies we currently have available for sale. What is their Temperament Like? There is no discernible difference between the temperament of a long coat German Shepherd and a normal short coat dog. For a long time they've been unfairly labeled as being difficult, but sadly this really stems from them not being accepted due to falling outside the normal breeding standard. The Long haired German Shepherds we've raised here at our top breeding facility in Illinois. Our specialized trained dogs have gone on to be used as search dogs, rescue dogs, police dogs, service dogs and therapy dogs. There's no reason long coats can't perform as well or better than short coats since they do look quite incredible at the same time! Whilst a long coat can be a far more desirable dog for some people, when it comes to price they can actually work out around the same price, or even cheaper, than a standard or "normal coat" German Shepherd. The dogs we breed and train here at Regis Regal come from some of the best bloodlines in the world. We conduct Schutzhund training to develop desirable traits including confidence, desire to work, and self-control. Participating in canine activities such as agility, herding, tracking, and diving is great exercise and fun for the dog. Training Puppy socialization and training are critical, as well as continuing obedience training to ensure the puppy will become a well-mannered adult. The German Shepherd is a highly intelligent companion and extraordinary worker. Use consistent and positive reward-based training for best results. Grooming The German Shepherd sheds regularly and is a heavy seasonal shedder. As a result, it is best to brush them daily. You only need to bathe them when necessary, however, as over bathing can cause skin irritation from removal of oil on their skin. Check their ears and trim their claws regularly. Origin The German Shepherd Dog originated in Karlsruhe, Germany from longhaired, shorthaired, and wire-haired local herding and farm dogs in the mids. Its now famous qualities of intelligence, agility, speed, stealth, and courage were developed not in a police or military academy but in the sheep pastures of s Germany. The breed gained popularity in the United States during the early s due to the canine movie stars Rin-Tin-Tin and Strongheart. Unfortunately, because it is among the German breeds including the Dachshund it suffered a decline in popularity due to anti-German sentiment during and after both world wars. However, due to the rise of modern livestock management and the decline of herding as a dog occupation, von Stephanitz promoted his breed as an ideal K-9 worker and today is therefore the preferred breed for police and military units all over the world. See store for details on this particular puppy. American Canine Association. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article.

German Shepherds are very gentle dogs and are much known for their protective traits. Unfortunately, last , there was a new adoption fee. Adopting a German Shepherd in Maryland would now cost around dollars to dollars. These German Shepherds are provided with consistent medical care. Ever since the German Shepherd gets rescued, they will closely be monitored and have the privilege of being spayed and neutered. Care also includes all kinds of shots for dogs. Choosing a Good German Shepherd Rescue If you are trying to adopt a rescued German Shepherd from German Shepherd shelters, you might be confused about what you should consider. If you ask people to like your friends and family, they might have different opinions that confuse you. But there is not so much to consider. The fact that you chose to adopt a rescued German Shepherd rather than buying one is already one act of kindness. You might already know that there are so many rescued German Shepherds in the world and only a few German Shepherd shelters. If the German Shepherd comes at you with no hesitations and no aggressiveness, you would know that it was a good rescue. If the German Shepherd is warm and inviting on your first encounter, it is already a good rescue because there are no signs of trauma or aggression. How do I pick a good rescue German Shepherd? You might ask yourself what kind of German Shepherd you should adopt and rehome. You can look for outgoing dogs. You can tell that by observing their body language when you first meet. However, if you are also not down to unlimited patience, you can avoid a shy German Shepherd. These dogs can be a little bit of work because they are afraid and run away from you. If you are outgoing and are a very hands-on person, you might not enjoy your German Shepherd because of its shyness. Dogs can be trained and can also be flexible like some people are. If you love a challenge, you can pick any dog you want. Summary If you live in or around Maryland, you will have numerous alternatives to choose from, owing to the many German Shepherd shelters in the area. As a result, if you contemplate adoption, you will not have a difficult time finding your pet. In a word, adopting a German Shepherd from a shelter would need a significant amount of time and patience on your part. Other States. The dogs need more care than our guests need a little tchotchke! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us Casen and we hope that all the dogs find their furever homes! These two incredible dogs had clearly been through some difficult times. Recognizing that these special pups would be most successful if they decompressed in foster homes, another rescue arranged for them to stay in foster families while they waited out their stray hold. Both dogs were placed in loving foster homes with other dogs. When their stray hold had ended and they had had some time to decompress, we were asked if we could welcome both dogs into the rescue. Really, who could say no to such a lovely pair of dogs? Brandi is a lovely girl. She arrived with wounds on her shoulders and underweight. Her foster family worked hard to get Brandi healed and healthy. Although we do not know anything about Brandi's past, it does appear that she was mishandled at some point. As a result, she can be timid and fearful with new people, particularly with men. A slow approach and some tasty treats go a long way with Brandi. She does warm up with a calm, confident, and patient handler. Brandi is looking for a forever family that will give her the opportunity to slowly adjust to the household. Providing Brandi with clear structure, routine, and guidance will be key to her success. When ready, Brandi will benefit greatly from training. Training will help Brandi build a strong, healthy bond with her forever family; it will also help her develop the stability and confidence needed to navigate her world. While living with her foster family in the south, Brandi did begin to develop her socialization skills. She also has learned the joys of living in a safe and loving home. At this time Brandi is housebroken and crate trained. However, she will likely need to fine tune her skills once she finds her forever home. Unfortunately, Brandi is heartworm positive. This diagnosis could have easily been avoided had Brandi been provided with monthly heartworm preventatives. Although treatment is very expensive, this active little girl is beyond worth the cost. Donations toward her care are greatly appreciated as this will help us not only help this lovely girl get all of the care that she needs, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need. Brandi will need to take it easy over the next few months while she completes her treatment. However, this will give her time to adjust to her forever family. If Brandi sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet her today. Update: Are you by any chance a morning person? Do you like to jog or hike? Brandi is looking to be your best friend. She wakes up ready to go and wants to be a velcro pup. After being here for a few weeks we've gotten a chance to see a little bit more about her. She is a pokey puppy. She loves to poke her nose everywhere and get the latest news. I also think she might have been best friends with a cat at some point. She constantly rubs up against everything just like a cat-- starting at her shoulder and curving down to the tail. So cute! She would do best in a house with a little space from neighbors. She sings the blues when left alone and talks in yips and barks about her day regularly. She also barks loudly at people outside the door. Not characteristics that would be loved by apartment neighbors! She is housebroken when kept to her schedule and sticks to her potty spot. She shows great potential but would do better if allowed exercise to calm her busy brain before being asked to focus. I think she would be best with older children only. She likes to jump up and lick your face when she is anxious or needs to check back in with you. We are working on correcting that habit but she can't get any exercise right now which doesn't help. She also can be a bit mouthy and she has tried to catch hold of my sleeve not my arm a few times. Surprisingly though, she doesn't bite down on your hand when taking a treat. Your whole hand can end up in her mouth with her exuberance to get the food. But, at least she doesn't bite down on you. She is very food motivated and very food-focused right now. She will try to take food away from my dog so she would do best with a dog that is not food protective. I think she would do fine in a house with other dogs that tolerate teen rough-housing, or in a house without other dogs. She could use the exercise provided by a pack but would be fine if you plan on being that exercise source. She does very well with our routine and knows where she's supposed to be and, most importantly, which meal is supposed to come next. Did I mention she's food fixated? She is not the best gardening buddy. Her favorite thing is to sit right in front of you, right on the dirt you just dug up so you could plant something, sticks her nose in the dirt to check the news, and then tries to give you a kiss right on the mouth. She will help dig though! She is prey driven, however, so she does keep the rabits, birds, and squirrels away from the garden very well. Hard toys only for this pup. She eviscerated a stuffy, grabbed up the pieces and chomped like she was going to swallow them in less than a minute. Fortunately, she is also very distractable with the promise of food of course. She is very ready to find her forever family. If you're looking to add a happy, bouncy young lady to your home, please consider her! Update: Brandi really is a special girl; she is a true GSD and loves with all of her heart and every piece of fur even the stray ones on the floor! Despite her previous hardships, the battle wounds on her shoulders, and coming in grossly underweight, she loves fiercely. Thankfully, her foster family continues to diligently work on helping her to heal from the trauma she experienced during the first part of her life. As a result, she is timid and fearful with new people, in particular, men. Therefore, multifaceted and multiple approaches to warm up to Brandi would go a long way with her! Think of slow, gentle, yet confident, approaches with some tasty treats! She will do best in a home with a family who is familiar or eager to learn the ways of a true GSD - while providing the essentials - training, structure, boundaries, routines, and continued guidance. Providing her with these basic needs, you will watch Brandi blossom in front of your eyes. Her foster family got a sneak peak of her potential socialization skills, crate trained, house broken, sloppy kisses and more , she just needs a forever family to get her the rest of the way to completely blossom into the beautiful, fiercely loving and fun pooch she has the potential to be. Brandi will form a healthy bond with her forever family and greatly benefit from continued training once she has had the time to complete her decompression and recognize she is safe with her forever family. Where do I start? I am trying my hardest, and have been through the best training a dog can receive Mason Dixon K9 , this I am really really grateful for! I am slowly rebuilding my confidence, learning that I can trust all humans again, but it takes me time. I like to sniff you out, get used to you and see you a few times. Once I trust you, I will protect you with my life! Will you take a chance on me? I will if you will!! The information provided is the best information we have on the dogs. Field About Labrador retrievers The dogs were used by fishermen to go into the water and pull the fishing nets to shore. Labradors love water, and care must be taken not to let a puppy go near a pool, or it will drown, as it does not know how to get out. The Labrador became popular in England as a gun dog and was used to retrieve game that the hunter had shot. FR Lagotto Romagnolo or a Labradoodle? What are the differences between them? They have many similarities, both externally and internally, although some differences can be seen. Purebred, coat and allergies In fact, it all starts with racial purity. A Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador and a Poodle and in some cases crossing other breeds, such as the Lagotto Romagnolo. A Lagotto is not a crossbreed and therefore a thoroughbred. Labradoodles are therefore a collective name for all crosses with Labradors and Poodles and are not recognized. The Lagotto Romagnolo is a recognized breed. Why is this so important? In a cross between a dog that does not shed Poodle and a dog that sheds Labrador Retriever , there is even a very high chance of losing. With Labradoodles it is especially important as a breeder to focus on non-shedding in order to have a higher chance of not losing offspring. It can generally be assumed that a dog with a curly coat will not shed to a very limited extent, and a dog with short OR non-curly hair will shed. This is an important fact for anyone allergic to dog hair. A puppy of this breed is therefore descended from two other Lagottos and should shed little or nothing at all. It is most ideal for allergy sufferers. In short A Labradoodle is less suitable for allergies as they can still shed. A Lagotto Romagnolo is suitable for most allergies as this dog hardly sheds a shed. These dogs always have a curly coat. Obedience is therefore a strong point of these dogs, with a small downside that they are also active dogs. This descendant is similar to water dogs, ideal dogs for retrieving prey. And many of them were bred for the same purpose as water dogs. So they have the same gift. A poodle, on the other hand, is often thought of as a companion dog, but make no mistake about it. Poodles were also often used as circus dogs due to their obedience and ability to take on many different commands. Both ancestors provide both an active and obedient character. In short A Labradoodle and a Lagotto Romagnolo are descended from ancestors who were used as a type of retrieval dog. Both dogs have the distinction of being obedient provided they train of course and having a good deal of action. Both breeds are therefore ideal as exercise partners for the whole family. Aggression and dominance are less common, at least not when the dog has enough free space. Boredom causes an active dog to be more rebellious and aggressive. Movement The most important has already been mentioned above. Both dogs are considered healthy sporting dogs in need of some freedom. When they get a little older, it is recommended to give them free rein for the day in the garden. A walk can be a complement, but if there is no free space, a short daily walk is not enough. As both breeds are very obedient, they also like to be challenged in obedience. Training for a dog is not so much dog school, but training which can be both private training and dog school In short Do you want a dog that is as manageable as possible? Whether you choose a Labradoodle or a Lagotto Romagnolo. Health The size disadvantage of a crossbreed eg Labradoodle is that there are more genetic differences between their ancestors. The big advantage is that the risk of hereditary malformations decreases. You take all possible inherited defects from your ancestors, but the risk of one of these problems decreases. There are more issues that can be included, but they come out less often. With the exception of hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and cerebral abnormality a disease of the brain , no problems are included in the list of possible hereditary defects. We also limit the risk of any of the above issues by verifying parents. In short A Labradoodle therefore has a longer list of possible health problems, only the probability of a problem being lower in percentage. Lagottos, on the other hand, have a very limited list of known health issues. Both varieties are therefore considered healthy. Our assets.

We raise mini goldendoodle and Irish mini goldendoodle puppies. Our miniature goldendoodle puppies are F1 lbs , F1b lbs , or multigen lbs and our mini Irish goldendoodles typically range from lbs, depending on parent size. Our Breeding Mini Golden Puppies has extensive experience raising both standard and mini goldendoodles and labradoodles in the first generation and first generation backcross. We have taken further steps to improve our breeding by introducing multigen mini goldendoodles and mini Irish goldendoodles. Our puppies range in color from light golden to dark red, with Irish mini goldendoodles keeping the darkest red coloring. We no longer raise standard size doodles or labradoodles. Size of Our Puppies Our puppies typically range in size from lbs. We normally get a pound size range within each litter. We consider all our puppies mini goldendoodles since we use the mini size poodle in all our goldendoodle types. Our puppies in the pound range are considered the medium size and puppies in the pound range are miniature size. Many breeders have different definitions for size and some use the terminology "petite" or "toy", which we don't use. We also don't use the smallest size of poodles, which are correctly called toy poodles also referred to as teacup or tiny for the smallest toys. Some of our litters will have a size range that falls within both our classification of miniature and medium sizes, such as a pound range. Our Philosophy We concentrate our program on health, intelligence, social temperaments, and teddy bear appearances for our puppies. Puppies come well socialized in our relaxed rural environment and fit in well with families that have children. We put the most emphasis on our past experience rather than lists of requirements or guidelines set by another breeder or organization. We are not about to conform to a standard that we feel will adversely affect our focus on our doodle puppies and the specific teddy bear appearance, playful disposition, and health we strive for. We also have found most registrations to contribute nothing to the breed, especially our specific focus. We are about 3. Louis, 4. See puppies we have placed in the:. Progressive Retinal Atrophy Mini Goldendoodle Grooming and Hypoallergenicity The exact grooming needs of your miniature Goldendoodle will depend on the coat type they inherit from their parents. Goldendoodles with curly fur will need more grooming. Shedding hairs will get caught in their coat rather than falling around your home. But, this can lead to tangles and knots in their hair. Matted fur is painful for your dog and may need to be shaved off completely. A low shedding, hypoallergenic coat is a major selling point for modern Doodle dogs like the mini Goldendoodle. However, studies have revealed mixed opinions on whether or not hypoallergenic dogs even exist. The allergen that triggers a reaction to dogs is found in their dander, saliva, and sweat, rather than their hair itself. And, individual dogs from the same breed can impact you differently. Implementing a good cleaning routine is a good way to reduce allergens in your home. Spend some time with your chosen Goldendoodle before bringing them home to see if they trigger your allergy symptoms. Mini Goldendoodle Lifespan Lifespan can be difficult to predict in mixed breed dogs. But, by looking at the average lifespan of the purebred parent breeds, we can get a general idea. On average, Golden Retrievers live to 12 years old. Miniature Poodles have a slightly longer average, of just under 14 years. Smaller dogs tend to live longer average lives than large breed dogs. But, studies have also shown that mixed breed dogs live a longer average lifespan than purebred dogs. So, on average, a Goldendoodle should live well into their teens. Particularly if you offer them the best care possible! For an active family with lots of time to dedicate to training and grooming, a mini Goldendoodle can be a great pet. Red mini Doodles can make just as good a pet as any other shade! And, their beautiful fur is bound to receive plenty of compliments. But, this breed is not for everyone. Since they are a mixed breed, mini Goldendoodles can be quite unpredictable. And, despite their smaller size, mini Goldendoodles have very high exercise and mental stimulation needs. Mini Goldendoodles can be happier in smaller homes than the standard variety. You will also need to socialize them from a very young age to prevent aggression and fearfulness. Their small size is not an excuse to slack on training. These social, energetic dogs often need a lot more care than people realise. Finding Red Mini Goldendoodle Puppies Over everything else, your priority should be finding a reputable breeder when searching for a mini red Goldendoodle. Mixed breed dogs like this are very popular, which means the market is rife with unhealthy puppies and disreputable breeders. This includes puppy mills, pet stores, and so on. Choose a breeder who provides evidence of health testing, who provides the best care for their dogs and puppies, and who is very knowledgeable about the mix. Getting a puppy is not something to rush into! Some breeders will specialize in certain colors. So, you might have more success finding a red puppy by looking for breeders that exclusively breed red-toned dogs. But, in other cases, you might have to go on a waiting list for specific colors. Price often reflects popularity in dog breeds. And, mini Goldendoodles are a popular mix! The cost of these puppies will vary depending on demand, coat color, coat type, generation, and so on. For a cheaper option, consider choosing a rescue dog! They will be just as loving as a puppy, and can even have some basic training to save you that little bit of work and time. Apricot vs Red Mini Goldendoodle Red and apricot are two of the most popular colors for the miniature Goldendoodle mix. However, red mini Goldendoodles tend to have darker, more pigmented fur than apricot varieties. The apricot dogs are more golden and less red! But, the label that a breeder puts on them can be down to personal opinion and the popularity of each color. Apricot and red mini Goldendoodles can vary in other features too. Including their hair type, overall appearance and their exact personality. But, this variation is more down to whatever features they inherit from their parents, rather than any links to coat color. The red mini Goldendoodle has a beautiful coat and the same potential traits as the standard Goldendoodle, in a smaller package! This mix needs plenty of exercise, training, and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. But, in the right home they can make a wonderful companion. Do you already have a miniature red Goldendoodle at home? Or are you still looking for your perfect Doodle mix? More Goldendoodle Guides. Life Span Did You Know? Although this breed is very popular, it is not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club. As long as they are well-socialized, Miniature Goldendoodles tend to make excellent family companions. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they will alert you of strangers at the door, they tend to warm up quickly as they are more interested in making friends and receiving attention. Mini Goldendoodles are highly adaptable dogs. Their smaller size makes them a great fit for apartment living or for bigger homes with yards where they can run. As long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention, they can adapt well. These little dogs tend to do well in just about any climate. However, like any dog, they are sensitive to heat. Due to their smaller size, you may need to gear up with some dog-friendly winter gear when temperatures start falling. Because this dog breed is loyal and people-oriented, they love to be in your company and do not like being left alone for long periods of time. This means they can be prone to developing separation anxiety if you do not work with them on it early on. Instead, make sure your new Mini Goldendoodle puppy has an active role in your life. If you do need to leave them alone for a bit, make sure they have some comforting toys or challenging puzzles to keep them from getting bored. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests and clearances that have been done. The Mini Goldendoodles is a highly intelligent dog that picks up on things quickly and is eager to please. They tend to be sensitive to tone of voice as well. As long as training is consistent and focused on positive praise and reward, a Mini Goldendoodle will strive to be obedient and impress you and tends to excel at almost any task. These traits make the Mini Goldendoodle one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Daily brushing is recommended to remove tangles and prevent mats. Bathing is occasional and can often be relegated to the dog groomer that is recommended you visit every weeks. The groomer can help handle some of this during visits, but you will still need to do some maintenance at home between visits. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Weekly ear checks with careful cleanings as needed help prevent ear infections. Daily brushing, plus cleanings at the vet as needed, is good dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Although the parents of this breed have a lot of energy, a Mini Goldendoodle tends to sit in a more moderate activity range. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are usually enough for them. But, they are also likely to match their energy level to yours, so be prepared for some bursts of energy as well as plenty of cuddling on the couch. Fully-grown Mini Goldendoodles usually stand inches tall at the shoulder. A Miniature Goldendoodle puppy can vary in size based on the generation of the dog. The result is generally a dog that will range from pounds. Looking at the size of the parents for an F1 or F1-B puppy can be a good indication of what size to expect in a fully-grown Miniature Goldendoodle. Mini Goldendoodles generally live for years on average. Featured Mini Goldendoodle Article. Contact Us Welcome First and most importantly, each of our English Golden Retrievers are an integral part of our family. They live in our home, sleep in our beds and are treated like Royalty. According to the dictionary, to treat with royalty means: treating someone or something extravagantly or with elaborate attention and care. It is our pleasure to introduce you to our family, our passion and our dogs. Because our dogs are part of our family, we often take them with us as much as we can. They enjoy playing with the kids, going to cross-country meets and ball games, hiking trails at the park, participating with the kids in 4-H at the local fair, going on walks, riding in the car and a few have been or are currently therapy dogs at the local school. Our goal is to be as loyal, loving and nurturing to our dogs as they are to us because they bless us everyday in so many ways. Second, for one of our dogs to be chosen to breed they must be genetically sound, have a pedigree with healthy lines and have a wonderful temperament. In order to produce the healthiest puppies, each of our adult English goldens go through the OFA certification process for hips, elbows, eyes, and heart. A few of our dogs have been certified through PennHIP evaluations as well. We also do genetic testing so we can avoid certain conditions such as ichthyosis that could be genetically passed down from parents to their offspring Puppies are Our Passion Puppies are our passion. One of our biggest rewards in raising puppies is the frequent smell of puppy breath and getting to know their furever families. We ensure our litters of puppies are treated like royalty just as our adult dogs. They are nurtured, given an endless amount of affection and spoiled with love. Because they are raised in our home, they are exposed to the sights, sounds, and smells of a busy household. We provide neurological stimulation and introduce them to a variety of toys, textures, surroundings and people. We find that acclimating puppies at a young age helps them develop into well-adjusted, confident, calm and loving family companions. We love the priceless contributions puppies have made to our family and want you to enjoy the same memorable lifelong experiences with your new dog. Our puppies come with dew claws removed, wormed, have their first vaccinations, are micro-chipped, vet checked and limited AKC registration papers. If you are interested in a puppy, we recommend submitting an application right away to get put on our waiting list. Brandy was our first American female, and our three kids best friend. She had a great disposition, was kind hearted and gentle with kids. After her passing we took a day trip to watch a local dog show and we fell in love with two english cream goldens that were training for therapy work. They were show stoppers! Their dark round eyes stood out against their beautiful cream-colored wavy coat and we fell in love immediately. Rudy was our first male and was everything we dreamed of. He came from a champion pedigree, had great conformation, a calm loving disposition and a desire to please which helped him earn his therapy license. At age two, Rudy joined me as the therapy dog in my 5th-6th science classroom and a year later in my kindergarten classroom. In we purchased our first female, Emma, who is full of love and a perfect dog mom. She is a puppy at heart, loves to talk to anyone who comes into our home and has mothered puppies other than her own, kittens and guinea pigs. At age 13 and 14 they are both very healthy and enjoy retired life. Rudy enjoys going on walks and getting spoiled by Grandma Cathy and Aunt Mary. Emma thrives on attention and helping new litters of puppies learn how to play. Rudy and Emma have been the perfect foundation of our breeding program and continue to be an important part of our family. My puppy Marley just loves his food. Delighted with it. I was expecting 2X2. Apparently the offer is you buy a 12kg bag and get 2kg free making it a 14kg bag. My cream Golden Retriever loves this food. I believe it also helps with the shiny condition of his coat. I fed him on junior labrador kibble until 3 months ago and then moved onto adult kibble. He is an absolute picture of good health and I am always receiving comments on how glossy his coat is. I attribute this to the food he eats and to good care of course. I always buy two bags at a time, and Zooplus seems to beat the others on price. I sometimes get lucky and recieve the 12kg bags with 2kg extra free, an offer that comes a few times a year from RC. Zooplus service is always very good, can't fault them at all. Thanks Zooplus. She was suffering from colitis and the dried food she was on was she experienced often bouts of diarrhea. This food is excellent, she eats it without adding anything, smells nice and is moist. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Royal Canin absolutely brilliant. Comes perfectly packaged in a cardboard box, quick delivery so a win win situation. I will be back for more next month. I am very satisfied with this food. The food was recommended by the vet and by the breeder. We always soak the food in a little water before feeding it to him. I've found the feeding table very useful - helps me to make sure I'm not giving him too much or too little. After a visit to the vet, she recommended royal canin junior for golden retrievers. My little one has a new lease of life, no more problems and a superb coat. My puppy's poo was liquid when the breeder was feedin him royal canin junior, but since I've changed him over to royal canin retriever junior everything has been fine. He's growing well and is very healthy. His health is very good, no upset tummy with this product. Before using this product he did suffer from an upset tummy. And in saying that he has refused to eat all of them. Some of them he humoured me and gave them a few days before turning his nose up at them, but mostly he just refused to eat them until he was starving. So in shear desperation I decided to give the Royal Canin Pug a go. All of my research suggested it is garbage, but perhaps I really do have an adolescent dog as he ate it like he has never been fed. .I'm conscious that it probably tastes so good because its so bad for him so I've been mixing it with his healthy grain free foods and its encouraging him to eat them too although I have caught him spitting them out when he realised they weren't his Royal Canin. So, according to my research this food isn't good for your dog, and I haven't had him on it long enough to comment, but from where I stand I'd rather he live on Big Macs than starve so for me this is a great food. My 8 mt old golden loves it. It seems to half a lovely rich smell and my tody agrees also. His coat it lovely shiny and soft. Teeth stay really clean and his stool is text book perfect. I had him on orijen large breed but his stool was very wet and smelly so i changed over to this food. Orijen is too rich for my fellow. This bag should last a month and i keep it in an airtight container for total freshness. To sum up: top class food and good value for money considering my tody should have an adult weight of 38kgs and the bag lasts a month!! Do not miss out on personalised offers, discounts and coupons! Please select pet type. Every decision they make is based on years of study in their own centre and on partnerships with veterinary schools, universities and breeders. white boxer puppies rescue - Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. We even have all types of golden retrievers for sale! At My Golden Retriever Puppies, we pride ourselves on our golden retriever price being fair and affordable for high quality puppies. Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. Although we show in conformation events breeding show dogs is not the basis of our breeding program. Breeding quality healthy goldens is our main concern. Health, soundness, longevity, personality are our first and foremost concerns before any litter is planned and bred. Every dog that is considered for breeding has to pass all genetic testing required by the Golden Retriever Club of America. Then it has to pass all requirements of ours. We research all lines to get a good history of any known health issues. One of those requirements is outcrossing healthy lines. We do not believe in inbreeding or as some breeders like to call it linebreeding. Inbreeding weakens a bodies immune system. That is proven scientific fact. We believe we can avoid numerous problems known in the golden breed by starting them off with a healthy immune system. Early cancer, pigmentary uveitis, thyroid issues, allergies are all diseases of poor immune system. Our next requirement is a good and honest background check on every pedigree that is bred. It is so much part of the dog that even personality of the parents is handed down to the puppies. That belief works well for us. We have over 25 years of good breeding history. We research the whole pedigree clearance record. We want to know as much as possible about any known problem from as many dogs in the pedigree as possible. That means we look at brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles, grandparents and great grandparents. With the good ethics of reputable breeders across the country this info is readily available today. We believe knowledge of the whole pedigree is key to good healthy breeding of dogs. We have taken on the title of preservation breeder. Today even more than outcrossing we are only using lines with proven longevity. Only USA lines known for longevity. Frozen semen from long ago dogs with proven longevity and foreign lines which are known to be free of the early cancer that has been inbred into the USA lines. Because we stick to these strict demands of our dogs we have had wonderful success in our breeding program. We still offer a written money back warranty with all puppies for all known breed hereditary problems. When we have puppies they are raised in our home where they are close by in the early days to be watched and tended carefully and close by in the later days when they need love, attention, and socialization.
