Baby von Bachfeld is a stunning 5 month old German Shepherd. Since people sometimes forget to notify us, some of these dogs may already be adopted. Thunder is a goofy, fun loving, 2 year old purebred German Shepherd in perfect health. He has had a well-rounded upbringing in a loving home and has great obedience. He is an excellent adventure buddy and has lots of experience camping, swimming, and hiking. He loves to play ball and tug, and show off his tricks. He often joins a bike ride around the neighborhood and runs nicely alongside the bike. He lives to play in any form of water — pool, lake, river, ocean, garden hose, you name it. He has good food drive and is not a big barker. Thunder would do best with an active, outdoorsy family. He is still with his original owner and the only reason for rehoming is that he doesn't get along with the other dogs in the home. Adopters with prior GSD experience preferred. Thunder is neutered and all vaccines are current. Contact Jenny Dennis: jenny wetnosestraining. Night one: I was getting my drank on with a friend. Walked out for a smoke at 2am and BOOM. There's this gigantic dumb dog standing at the door in the pouring rain. Do you think anyone came to claim him? Hell no. Not sure I can say I blame them tbh. Im just trying to be honest with you guys. He either hates you or loves you. We've had one failed attempt after another with meet and greets. Monty doesn't want to be forced to like someone. He wants to do it on his own terms. We've had volunteers that haven't had a single issue with him at all and we've had volunteers who can't take him out of his kennel. Monty loves me, my 7 year old son, my ex husband, my new future husband, and a handful of other people. He responds beautifully with someone who won't bow down to him. You won't find more love, character and devotion than Monty will give you. He has ZERO ill intent towards people whom have been blessed enough to be considered part of his pack. Monty will not be suited for a home with children or one that will have random people walking in and out. Monty would be best suited for a person or couple who both are confident with dogs and don't display anxiety around them- Monty feeds into anxiety. It's like he has to prove a point that he's the boss. He would do great with adopters who are active and like to hike, walk, run or do just about anything. He can often be found at Kankakee State park, Menards and Lowes, because for some reason hell act civilized for fun trips has to be muzzled but he doesn't mind. Monty is not for the weak minded or feeble. Monty isn't a bad dog, he doesn't want to kill anyone. He's just a little twisted and likes to see people squirm. He needs a handler who will say "knock it off" and not let him see them sweat. One who can commit to keeping him in line and safely controlled. FYI he can and will absolutely jump a 4' fence. Doesn't even attempt with 6'. Much as that is to take in, Im sure you've left by now. If not, and you think this level of crazy is just right for you then please give me a call so we can discuss your next biggest mistake! Considering Monty for adoption? To meet any of our dogs you must first complete our online adoption application on our website. He's beyond handsome, very charming, totally social, loves everyone, and will win you over in minutes. Here's the real question. Can you handle being the second best looking one in the family? Sure, he can't have access outside when no one is home because he can and will jump a 7' fence, but that's not the real issue here. Are you secure enough to handle his good looks? Are you ready to be completely ignored when out in public? Everyone's eyes will drop to your dog and all you'll hear is 'omg, he's amazing! He's so soft! He's so sweet! He's so handsome! Brody will eat it up and you'll eventually have to say, 'OK, so it's getting really late and we've been here for 95 minutes and should probably get going. This handsome boy is probably around years old, and he's great with people and gets along with female dogs who like to play rough. He's got all of the energy that comes along with puppihood, but is smart and food motivated, making him fun to train. He's a Husky in every way, good on a leash, obedience trained, super loving and sweet, and going to make someone very happy to have him in the family! He would do best in a family with Husky experience. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis i. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems. Considering Brody for adoption?

The designer dogs are comical at times but are genuinely affectionate, solely consecrated to their owners. They would love spending maximum time with their masters, sleeping with them or cuddling on their laps. They also have an equally tender feeling towards children, satisfying their playful instincts by spending fun moments with them. Some Buggs might inherit the territorial instinct of the Boston, thus making it difficult for them to get along with other pets. Care Exercise Your Bugg is full of energy and a strong willingness to play. Schedule for short, brisk walks, swimming which they enjoy , or mild activities once or twice a day. Indulge it in playing without a leash, making sure, its playground has a secure enclosure. Grooming The Buggs have a short coat and do not shed much. No trimming or stripping is needed. But do brush them at least once a week. Keep their facial skin folds clean to avoid allergies. Also take care that their protruding eyes do not catch debris and cause vision problems. Training Dealing with stubbornness in a Bugg is not difficult. All you have to do is give it the right signal. For instance, when you are taking your dog out of the front gate for an evening walk, keep your clicker and treats ready. Hold the leash and wait for it to look back at you, without addressing it. Once it does, click and give it the goodie. Follow a few more steps, stop again — let it look at you, and it gets one more clicking treat. Keep clicking and treating it, as and when you see the leash becomes tight. Your Bugg will get the message that looking at you before contriving to stubborn would help it get it treats. Right from puppyhood, teach your Bugg not to lose temper in situations related to territoriality, especially if you get the slightest hint. Train your puppy not to run boundaries when you keep them outside. Rather, treat your dog every time it accepts your approaching guests or other pets, and stay relaxed. If you are also a cat or bird lover, give your puppy socialization training to help with grow with fellow pets in a hassle free manner. Take extra care that this does not happen, or else it might end in obesity issues. Keep it limited to 0. He is my baby, He has to be in sight of me or on my lap, laying on me or next to me at all times. I could not ask for a better boy, most of the time. I know better. Besides this gross habit however I have never had a pet like him. And will rgun over and chase him away from the food dish if he believes he has had more than his share. Which sometimes can be 1 mouthful of food. But all in all he gets along with him. They are best buds and are always close to one another. He has an underbite, many fatty tumors on him and has mid stage cataracts as well as heart issues. I know he is getting to the end but as my vet says his quality of life is still extremely well considering his age. He likes to go for rides, loves attention but is very protective of me when people are visiting only barks at them nothing more if they move he is very funny about when he gets into the garbage. By then I already know. He now helps me pick it up. But cuddles always make it better. My point is regardless of his quirks I love him so much and am so grateful he is part of my family. He speaks with his eyes and expressions, loves ear rubs and massages. Nope he is not spoiled at all! My only regret is that I wish I would have been able to have him from puppyhood. Bugg Highlights Buggs are mixed breed dogs. They are not purebreds like their Boston Terrier or Pug parents. The main colors of Buggs are brown, black, and white. Sometimes their coats are solid, and sometimes they have a mix of colors. Still, their short coats do shed a bit, so they are not completely hypoallergenic. Buggs are prone to weight gain. Make sure your dog gets at least one good half-hour- to hour-long walk per day with a few good, active play sessions mixed in. The Bugg is a notoriously friendly and playful dog, which makes them a wonderful pet for children. Still, the Bugg is a small mixed breed dog, and they can be easily injured by overly excited children. Buggs like to be the center of attention, and they may prefer to be the only pet in the house. They can handle small bouts of being alone, but they do best in a household where someone is home for a majority of the time. Bugg History The Bugg dog breed may have existed naturally over the years, but designer breeders started intentionally mixing Boston Terriers and Pugs in the late s , likely in North America. Both the Boston Terrier and the Pug are known as affectionate, easy-going breeds, so breeders likely wanted to mix the two parent breeds to maximize these desirable traits. They continued to breed Buggs as demand for the mixed breed pups climbed. Even though the Bugg breed got their start as a designer breed, some have ended up in shelters or in the care of rescue groups. Consider adoption if you decide the Boston Terrier Pug mix is the right breed for you. Check your local shelters, look up Bugg rescues, or check with breed specific Boston Terrier or Pug rescues, as they sometimes take in mixed breed dogs and find homes for them. Bugg Size As the Bugg is a somewhat new mixed breed, there are few standards when it comes to size. However, as a mix between two compact breeds, the Boston Terrier and the Pug, you can expect them to be on the smaller side. Most weigh in between ten and 25 pounds, and they range in height from 14 to 18 inches from the shoulder. That said, many can be smaller or larger. Bugg Personality Just like their parents, Buggs can be incredible companions. The mixed breed tends to be outgoing and friendly, even with children. They also tend to pick a favorite human and stick by their side, which makes them ideal pets for one-person homes as well as families. The Bugg can also get territorial if not properly socialized and trained. As a small dog, the Bugg is prone to resource guarding and could get vocal or snippy with other animals or pets competing for your attention. Many Bugg enthusiasts describe the mixed breed as nothing short of goofy. They are always happy to indulge in a quick play session or to burrow into you as you watch TV from the couch. This hammy mixed breed loves being in the spotlight, which also means that they are prone to separation anxiety. While most are generally healthy, some may be prone to a few ailments, which is why it is important to maintain good care and regular veterinary checkups. Your vet can help you develop a care routine to keep your Bugg healthy. Check their ears for debris and pests daily and clean them as recommended by your vet. They should not be clicking against the floor. Your groomer can help with this. The Bugg is a brachycephalic breed, AKA the adorable, smushed face. Talk to your vet about a plan of action to prevent brachycephalic syndrome , a potentially fatal condition. You should brush their teeth daily, as small breeds are prone to dental issues. Bugg Feeding An ideal Bugg diet should be formulated for a small breed with high energy. Still, they are more than happy to laze about if given the chance, and they have a tendency to gain weight if overfed. While treats are an amazing incentive for training your Bugg, try to limit the amount. Because they tend to have shorter coats—along with flat faces—Buggs are not suited for extreme weather. Bugg Children And Other Pets The Bugg is a notoriously friendly and playful dog, which makes them a wonderful pet for children. This pup can make an amazing, active companion for kids who learn how to properly approach and play with a small dog. When it comes to other pets, Buggs can get along with other animals if they are introduced slowly and calmly, and early socialization will help this go smoothly. If not, your Bugg might show off their Boston Terrier-inherited territorial streak and become aggressive with other animals, especially other dogs. Still, many Buggs get along just fine with other dogs and cats, so it really comes down to training, socialization, and the luck of the draw. Bugg Rescue Groups It may be hard to find a breed-specific rescue for Buggs because they are a mixed breed. However, you may want to try Boston Terrier or Pug breed specific rescues, as they often care for mixes, as well. Here are some rescues you can try:. Is the Boston Terrier and Pug mix the right dog for you? What is a Boston Terrier and Pug mix? But this hybrid also inherited negative traits such as its tendency to be stubborn and territorial. It does not like being left alone or separated from its family. We will be talking more about these traits later in the article. Buggs are affectionate. Buggs have short, small legs, and a short tail. But, good thing for this hybrid, its parent breeds have some similar facial features. Some endearing facial features the Bugg inherited from both parent breeds are their expressive round, bulging eyes and short flat muzzles. Common coat colors for the Boston Terrier Pug mix include shades of black, white, brindle, and fawn. Once-a-week brushing should suffice in keeping their coats looking healthy. Although its coat is non-hypoallergenic, the Boston Terrier Pug mix sheds moderately. This crossbreed may still be ideal for pet owners who have mild allergies. Your Bugg is energetic and loves playtime, but these dogs do not require much exercise. Taking them on a short minute walk or a brisk walk around the block daily is enough to keep this pup happy and healthy. Just like any dog, Boston Terrier Pug mixes need to have their teeth brushed everyday to ensure they maintain excellent dental health. Their ears need to be checked and cleaned at least once a week to avoid infection. While a Boston Terrier and Pug cross may not require too much exercise, it is not comfortable being left alone for too long. Your presence in its day-to-day life is a must for this breed. Boston Terrier Pug Mix Health Problems They are prone to some health conditions that are common in their parent breeds as listed below. Obesity — it is a known fact in the doggie world that a Pug has the tendency to overeat. The Bug dog may inherit that from its parent. Brachycephalic airway obstruction syndrome BAOS — This condition causes a dog with a short nose to have difficulties in breathing. You might find your Boston Terrier-Pug hybrid trying to catch its breath when they run or during any rigorous play. Snoring is also a symptom of this issue. Dermatitis — This is a skin condition that Boston Terrier-Pug crosses may inherit due to the folds on their faces and their twisted tail. You should take them to the vet if you see signs of skin irritation. Clicker training works well for them. A lot of positive praise and treats during your training sessions will be appreciated by this breed. While a Boston Terrier Pug mix might inherit positive traits from its parent breeds, it can also inherit negative tendencies that can become serious behavioral issues if not addressed early on. Here are some negative traits a Bugg can inherit from its parents, along with some tips on what you can do about these: Stubbornness — Sometimes a Pug and Boston Terrier mix just chooses not to do what you say. Obedience training while the Bugg is still a puppy can help fix this. Jealousy and territorial behavior — Early socialization with humans and other pets at home is the key to keeping a Bug dog from being territorial. Make sure to leave your dog with some toys and treats to distract it from your absence. This all sounds great! Where can I get a Boston Terrier Pug mix? You may also opt for Bugg pups who are for adoption from shelters and rescue organizations. It may be challenging to find breeders of Boston Terrier and Pug mix puppies, but you can check breeders of its parent breeds:. Lifespan Sociability With an average height of just 16 inches, these are very compact dogs that will never outgrow your lap. Bugg dogs are lovers at heart, perfect for families and individuals alike. But they can become quite territorial over their owners, an issue that needs to be addressed quickly. Though they get along great with family members and other people, Buggs are attention hogs, preferring to always be center stage. Both parents have similar eyes that seem to pop out of their heads, but ironically, those eyes could literally pop right out of their heads! It may seem crazy, but it has happened. This means they have flat faces, short snouts, and shallow eye sockets. Both Pugs and Boston Terriers are brachycephalic as well, which is why this issue is rampant in the Bugg breed. Because of the shallow eye sockets, their eyes can pop out of their sockets due to a condition called proptosis. It happens most often when the dog is playing or fighting with other dogs. Boston Terriers are known to be territorial of their owners and environment, and the Bugg dog can often display the same behavior. If they do, it will be very hard to break them of it later. In all of these organizations, this breed is known as Bugg. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They need a lot of attention that a family can easily provide. If you let a Bugg grow older without proper socialization, they can be very territorial and may be aggressive towards other animals in their home. A short walk each day should provide plenty of exercise on top of regular playing and their own general silliness. It may require a lot of patience and determination. To keep their coat free of dead hair, simply brush or comb them once a week or so. This means they have flat faces with protruding eyes. While this look is very popular and these dogs have been bred to continue the trait, it can also result in health complications such as breathing difficulties and eye problems. Brachycephalic dogs have shortened bones in their faces. When this causes abnormalities in the upper airways, the condition is known as brachycephalic airway syndrome. There are several conditions that get grouped under this name, including stenotic nares, extended nasopharyngeal turbinates, a hypoplastic trachea, and several others. All of these conditions can make it very difficult for your dog to breathe. Most dogs affected by this syndrome will breathe through their mouths more easily than their noses. They may have very loud breathing and will often snore when sleeping and snort when excited. This syndrome can develop into secondary problems and even put an increased strain on the heart from the increased effort required for breathing. Brachycephalic ocular syndrome is also another big health issue to look out for in your Bugg. This syndrome is also a collection of conditions that can include medial canthal entropion, epiphora and tear staining, trichiasis, and more. This condition is marked by the protruding eyes commonly seen on these breeds. It can prevent the dog from blinking and may be very uncomfortable. It can also result in decreased vision. Brachycephalic dogs like Buggs may also experience an eye proptosis. Because they have shallow eye sockets and protruding eyes, their eye may actually come out of the socket. On a lighter note — no pun intended — Buggs love to eat and are known to overeat if given the opportunity. While all animals are susceptible to obesity with prolonged overfeeding, Buggs are more likely to develop this condition than most. Minor Conditions. If you have misfortune finding a trustworthy breeder for this hybrid, you can either ask a local veterinarian if they have anyone which they can refer to you or ask breeders of both parent breeds, instead: Our Brindle Bostons OK Weywood Showdogs PA Celestial Pugs CA A legitimate breeder should let you have a visit to their facility or kennels to meet the puppy before finalizing the purchase. This way, you can observe the living conditions of their animals. A visitation would also help make certain that your puppy is a good match for you. It is naturally glossy and can repel most of the dirt or water. You would only need to brush them once or twice every week to make sure that their shedding is kept to a minimum. Brushing using a slicker brush or comb will also help in maintaining the fur healthy and free of dirt or loose hair. This mixed breed does not have a doggy odor, so you can reduce their regular bathing to once a month or only when it is needed. Aside from that, you will also need to clip their nails every few weeks mainly because they will not break off naturally as they mostly stay indoors. You should also regularly clean their ears and check their eyes for any signs of infection. Boston Terrier Mixed with Pug Health Problems Pug Boston Terriers are known to live a long healthy life of 10 to 15 years, with proper care and a healthy diet. Like any other breed, they can also be prone to some health issues that are quite common in their parent breeds. It is important to remember to be cautious as their round bulging eyes are susceptible to injuries and debris could easily get in them. Obesity — Like their Pug parent, these dogs are also voracious eaters. The problem is, they are prone to obesity which can have adverse effects on their health and may even shorten their lifespan. It is very common in old age as their physical activities decrease or become lethargic. Owners should pay close attention to their diet as well as limit the number of treats. Fold Dermatitis — This occurs due to the moisture and heat that builds up in the folds of their skin. These areas become a breeding ground for fungi, yeast, and bacteria. It is much common during summer or hot weather. Brachycephalic Respiratory Syndrome — Also known as congenital obstructive airway disease, it is a common condition among flat-faced dogs. They can suffer from abnormalities like narrowed nostrils, an enlarged tongue, elongated soft palate, Hypoplastic Trachea, and Everted Laryngeal Saccules. Watch out for symptoms like snoring or if they often seem to try to catch their breath. These upper respiratory obstructions cause the dog to work harder to get some air through their airways resulting in distress, over-heating, and exacerbate obstructions. Abnormal Eyelid — This is a genetic condition where the eyelid folds inward. It causes the eyelash or hair to scratch and irritates the eye, which can lead to corneal perforation or ulceration. It is non-preventable and can only be corrected through surgery, especially in severe cases. They love to eat, and they would keep eating as much as they can. The first step in preventing this malicious disease is staying away from the worst dry dog food and limit their food intake to 0. Their diet should consist of high-quality dry dog food with a formula that is best suited for small dog breeds like themselves. The Boston Terrier combined with Pug will thrive on one of these best dry dog food for small dogs. Dietary supplements such as Nutra Thrive dog food supplement can contribute to replenishing essential foodstuffs in the body and promoting the health of coat, skin, or teeth, as well as heart, brain, and other vital organs. Boston Terrier Pugs Exercise Requirements The Pug Boston Terrier mix is not the most energetic breed, but it is still very important to keep them active and healthy. Keeping your dog in good shape helps with their health and temperament. Give them at least a total of 40 minutes of activities daily. If you have yard space, you can teach them how to play fetch or let them play on their own with interactive toys. They have a few sizes available, but small would suit them best. You can choose from either chicken, bacon, or peanut butter flavors which also helps in keeping them interested. Zogoflex Tux is another toy that doubles as a fetch toy and a chew toy. You can stuff it with treats and kibbles. It will surely keep them engaged for long periods, perfect when you have to leave your dog alone. It comes in a dinosaur, hedgehog, or lion. It has multiple layers to make sure they are soft, durable, and non-toxic. It can withstand daily chewing and is very easy to carry. Pug Boston Terriers Training Dogs of this mixed breed are smart and very eager to please, which makes them fairly easy to train. They respond well to praises and treats. It is important to start them on their training at an early age to help instill discipline and discourage their negative tendencies. The Boston Terrier mixed with Pug may inherit some traits that can become behavioral issues if not addressed early on. You have to be firm, but remember that these are very sensitive dogs, so you also need to be careful not to hurt their feelings. Using gentle corrections and offering incentives seems to be the best way to train this pup. Here are a few other tips for effective training: How to Deal with Stubbornness — All you will need is a clicker, a few treats, and their leash. Best time to do this is before you take them on a walk. Before leaving the house, take time to hold the leash and wait for your dog to look back at you without calling their attention. Once they do, just click and hand them a treat. Take a few steps forward, stop, and repeat. This method sends a message to your dog that by looking at you, they would get a treat. It is a great stepping stone to teaching them other tricks in the future. Keep in mind that you have to remain patient, consistent, and committed in their training. Teaching Your Dog to Stay Calm — These dogs can quickly lose their temper when they feel territorial — socializing them while still young helps them get used to the presence of strangers including other animals. You also can train your dog to stay calm and relaxed around other people or pets by giving them treats when they do. They are known to be goofy dogs and gets into mischief quite often. Funny and affectionate, this crossbreed loves playing, receiving attention and cuddling with their owners. They are the perfect companion, family dog, and watchdog. These small dogs are amazingly gentle around children. Their size also makes them easy to manage for new pet owners. They would do well in an apartment. Like most other dogs, they inherit traits that are very common in their parent breeds. In this case, they can have few health and behavioral issues, which are easily remedied with proper care and training. Life Span Did You Know? A Bugg is a cross between a Boston Terrier and Pug. These dogs tend to be small and are known for their adorable faces and gentle, fun, and comedic personalities. As a designer breed, they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but they are recognized by other notable dog organizations. Buggs are a great fit for single owners as well as families. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They tend to be sweet, affectionate, and love to cuddle. They also tend to have an upbeat, fun-loving, and sometimes clownish personality. If left untrained or not socialized properly, barking can become a nuisance behavior and they can also become territorial. Although they are very sensitive to heat, the Bugg is a highly adaptable dog. They do well in apartments as well as larger homes with yards. They also do well in most climates, aside from heat. But, they have a short coat, so they may need some winter dog products to stay warm in colder temperatures. They also do not like to be left alone for long periods of time because they are devoted to their families. Potential health conditions to be aware of in the Bugg breed include luxating patella , cataracts, deafness, hip dysplasia, and encephalitis. As a brachycephalic dog breed, they will be prone to breathing problems, allergies, and will be very sensitive to heat. Their protruding eyes can also become irritated in the cold and you need to be careful to keep them clear of debris. As a small dog breed, they are also more prone to developing dental disease. So, practicing good dental care for dogs is also important. Buggs are intelligent dogs that are eager to please even though they can be stubborn at times. This tends to make them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Puppy training classes can still be a good idea as they strengthen the bond you have with your puppy and also offer opportunities to socialize a puppy. As a small dog breed, house training can be a challenge. But, with consistency, some house training tips , and a lot of patience, you can get through it. Bugg puppies are also quite curious and energetic. They also tend to be prone to jumping up and climbing over people and furniture. The Bugg has a short coat that will shed a little year-round and potentially a little more as the seasons change. Monthly nail trimming can be enough to keep nails from growing too long. Floppy ears are more prone to ear infections than ears that stick straight up all the time, but all ears need to be checked regularly. Many dog owners overlook dental care, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. But, gum disease in dogs is serious and can lead to many other health issues. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day is ideal and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. The Bugg tends to have a moderate activity level. Daily walks plus some playtime or other activity are usually enough for this dog. Although they may have bursts of energy, they are small dogs and can wear themselves out quickly. They love being around you, so they will likely be up for more activity if you are. Just keep an eye on them to make sure they are not overdoing it. As a brachycephalic dog, they are more sensitive to heat and can easily become overheated. But, there are safe ways to exercise brachycephalic dogs to help your Bugg get the movement they need to stay healthy. A fully-grown Bugg usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. A Bugg generally lives for years. Bugg Puppies for Sale Thanks for visiting our Bugg page! Exercises Grooming From ancient Germany precisely around the 19th century had the now extinct mastiff breed Bullenbeisser and bulldogs brought in from England. At the time of their arrival, they served as hunting dogs for bears, deer, and other ferocious beasts, it would capture the prey with the help of its awesome teeth and detain it until the hunter arrives. And in the first boxer standard club was launched with a comprehensive document that is still in use today. Shortly after, the breed made its way into other European countries and got into the U. S in the late 19th century with the American Kennel Club taking registration of its first boxer around .During the first world war, boxers played the role of a military dog as a pack-carrier, a guard dog, and an attack dog, later they were taken home by the soldiers and got introduced into the domestic world as a show dog, best companion, and a reliable guard. One with so much life, energetic, curious, attentive, active, smart, sociable and incredible fun with children is the boxer, they are also known to be very patient and highly protective of their family members making them the love and desire of many homes. As active dogs, they need a lot of exercise to keep them mentally fit, apparently having a mind of its own, you will find your boxer entertain itself by digging the ground often, chewing, and licking the mouth to beat boredom. They are also very stubborn in character which makes them a terrible choice for first-timers with dogs, they are generally a bit difficult with adult dogs including dogs of a similar breed but friendly with puppies. They usually do not bark unless there is a genuine reason behind it but they love to growl. If you have occupied home with people around all the time or you want a canine buddy the whole time, then a boxer is just the perfect breed to get. Being a highly active dog, they dread loneliness and they can cope finely in both a house and an apartment as long as you provide it with enough room and spaces for exercises and activities. What you must have is a large yard if you are living in a house for it to dig the ground and run around as it likes. And more so, if you are given to being away from home most of the time, getting a boxer may not be the best for you and the dog, because they usually get aggressive when left alone. Boxers are known as loud snorers and they drool greatly too. Boxers are playful and very energetic dogs as such regular exercises are part of a good canine relationship, especially a breed of this sort. Your boxer should be allowed to play in a fenced area and on-leashed since it is likely to jump and leap around in excitement. This puts a boxer as a bad choice for a frail owner as they may find it a tad impossible and daunting keeping up with its excessive activity demands. Being a breed with a short and thin coat its grooming demands are quite easy and little, all it needs is a light brushing of the hair twice every week to maintain its good and gleeful looks. Bathing should be a once in a while since boxers are generally clean dogs and its nails, be trimmed once every month or as often as they grow worn on surfaces, its teeth should also be brushed daily to avoid tartar formation and other dental crises. Our Boxer puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. We only purchase puppies from the very best sources, and we stand behind every puppy we sell. Frequently Asked Questions Are Boxers good family pets? With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. We offer French bulldogs and French bulldogs only. French Bulldogs also have upright pointy ears whereas the English breed has folded ears. Do I have to worry about fleas with French Bulldogs? Just like all other breeds, French Bulldogs can get fleas. If they do get fleas, this can be solved by getting flea medicine or using a flea comb to get rid of the fleas. How do you deal with separation anxiety in French Bulldogs? French Bulldogs are very prone to separation anxiety. To curb this, owners can crate train their dogs or provide them with chew toys. What is the best way to train your French Bulldog? Crate training is one of the best ways to train your French Bulldog. It helps to create good and positive behavior in your Frenchie and could be a fun place for it to rest. Are French Bulldogs children-friendly? French Bulldogs are not the best option for kids. However, if they grow up surrounded by children, the risk could be lessened. They should not be left unsupervised around kids. How big are French Bulldogs? It can definitely be unnerving to see a "big bad wolf" roaming your neighborhood, but did you know your favorite pet that is, if you are a dog person is actually descended from wolves? Wolf dogs are domestic companion dogs that share some of the same DNA as wolves, with the exception of the more wolf-like traits. That said, you don't have to be afraid of these dogs, but just like any dog breed, there are some important characteristics to keep in mind before you adopt. As you may expect, wolf dogs are super strong pups that may overpower young children. This doesn't mean they aren't equally affectionate and friendly , they just might do better in a family environment with older kiddos. Wolf-like dogs also require a lot of interaction and exercise, as well as grooming maintenance thanks to double coats. Tamaskans often are good family dogs, but make sure you're able to spend lots of time with your pup as this breed prefers not to be left alone for long periods of time. As the American Kennel Club notes, these friendly, energetic dogs usually weigh less than 35 pounds and tend to have short legs. That doesn't mean they're couch potatoes, though: Swedish Vallhunds are lively and need at least one walk a day, according to the AKC. Pet Guide notes that Utonagans are known for their friendly, gentle temperament , making them good family dogs. Be ready to spend lots of time snuggling with and brushing this breed — their thick, waterproof double coat served them well in the Arctic where they originated, but requires a lot of upkeep to avoid tangles. The AKC notes that these high-energy dogs need lots and lots of exercise , and they love being social with people and other dogs — so you should plan to spend many afternoons playing fetch. According to the AKC, Czechoslovakian wolfdogs tend to have dominant and independent personalities. That said, they'll make a great adventure buddy next time you go camping, hiking, or biking. While these animals vary drastically in appearance, every dog—from the Chihuahua to the Great Dane—is a member of the same species, Canis familiaris. This separates domestic dogs from wild canines , such as coyotes, foxes, and wolves. A third of all households worldwide have a dog, according to a consumer insights study. This makes the domestic dog the most popular pet on the planet. Evolutionary origins All dogs descend from a species of wolf, but not the gray wolf Canis lupus , like many people assume. In fact, DNA evidence suggests that the now-extinct wolf ancestor to modern dogs was Eurasian. However, scientists are still working to understand exactly what species gave rise to dogs. When dogs broke off from their wild ancestors is also a matter of mystery, but genetics suggest that it occurred between 15, and 30, years ago. Perhaps wolves started down this path simply by eating human scraps. Many generations later, humans might have encouraged wolves to stay near by actively feeding them. Later still, those wolves may have been welcomed into the human home and eventually bred to encourage certain traits. All of this is thought to have unfolded over thousands of years. For instance, around 9, years ago , ancient peoples began breeding dogs that were best able to survive and work in the cold. These dogs would become the family of sled dogs—including breeds such as huskies and malamutes—that remains relatively unchanged today. Similarly, humans bred German shepherds for their ability to herd livestock, Labrador retrievers to help collect ducks and other game felled by hunters, and sausage-shaped Dachshunds for their ability to rush down a burrow after a badger. Many more breeds were created to fill other human needs, such as home protection and vermin control. Certain breeds have also been created to make dogs more desirable as companions. For instance, the labradoodle, which combines the traits of a Labrador retriever and a poodle, was invented as an attempt to create a hypoallergenic guide dog. Please be respectful of copyright. They can also help conservationists find and protect endangered species using their super-powered schnozzes. They assist search and rescue teams in the wake of natural disasters or reports of people lost in the outdoors. Dogs trained to warn of hidden explosives and enemies serve as allies in military operations. Other dogs assist police looking for jail escapees or the bodies of murder victims. Some partner instead with customs officials searching for contraband, from drugs to elephant ivory. Still others lead the way tracking down poachers , patrolling cargo ships for rats that might escape at distant harbors, or exposing forest insect pests in shipments of wood from abroad. They guide deaf and blind people, and they help people with autism and post-traumatic stress disorder manage with anxiety. Living with dogs Most dogs are a mix of breeds—in , one study estimated that only 5 percent of dogs in shelters are purebred. Just as dogs come in all sizes, shapes, and colors, these animals also come in a spectrum of temperaments. A bulldog might look fierce but be cuddly as a kitten, whereas a cute cocker spaniel might nip at your finger without thinking twice. This is why animal handling expert Jack Hanna recommends teaching children to always exercise caution around a dog they do not know. The point is it can happen. After all, the yipping and tail-wagging your dog performs when you grab a bag of treats are carry-overs from when its ancestors needed to communicate with other members of its social group. Chasing sticks and balls may be linked to the pursuit of prey, while digging at the carpet or a dog bed echoes how a wild canid would prepare its sleeping area. Editor's note: Bringing a dog into your household is a major responsibility. More than 1. Follow us on Instagram at natgeoyourshot or visit us at natgeo. In addition we are just two hours west of the Houston, Katy area. Also, three hours south of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. Our home sits on 25 acres of rolling pasture. I love that we can just open a gate to take our Golden Retrievers for a run in the field or for a swim in one of our two ponds. As a Golden Retriever breeder one of my goals has always been to produce healthy puppies. Therefore, all Golden Retrievers used in my breeding program have their hips and elbows x-rayed and then submitted to the OFA Orthopedic Foundation for Animals for a rating. All of our pedigrees have generations of health testing. Equally important to health is temperament. A properly bred Golden Retriever is a joy to live with. Goldens should get along well with other dogs and possess a willingness to please. Golden Retrievers love spending as much time as they can with people. They are always ready to fetch a tennis ball or cuddle on a couch. This is why the Golden Retriever is one of the most popular breeds for families. Reputable breeders only use Goldens with correct temperament in their breeding programs because they know that temperament is one of the most important aspects of our breed. Lastly, is the importance of Breed type and structure. Breed type are the traits that make a Golden Retriever resemble a Golden Retriever and not a Labrador Retriever or any other breed of dog. For instance, the coat of a Golden is very different from the coat of a Labrador. Likewise, the ears of a Golden Retriever are very different from those of a Doberman. Each breed recognized by the AKC has a breed standard, a description of that breed. The Golden Retriever breed standard describes what the ideal Golden Retriever should look like and behave like. Reputable breeders use the breed standard as a guide when making breeding decisions. After all, who wants to purchase a Golden Retriever who looks like an Irish Setter and acts like a Rottweiler? Structure is as important to a dogs health as clearances. For example, if a dog has weak front pasterns, a cow hocked rear, a weak topline, etc. So while it may seem unimportant to have many Champion CH dogs in the pedigree of your puppy, those CH dogs would most likely not have earned that title if they were not structurally sound. Structural soundness is important for all living beings. I hope that you enjoy your visit to our site and find some of the information presented here helpful. Ellen is home full time where she spends most of her day with them from the moment they arrive until they day they go to their new homes. Most importantly, our puppies are center stage in the middle of family life here at Goldenwind. This offers our Texas Golden Retriever puppies optimum opportunities for both human and littermate socialization which is a necessity at this stage of their lives. When the weaning process starts, the puppies are moved to a large playpen in our living room. There they can hear and see everything around them. This includes loud televisions, stereo music, vacuums, doorbells, telephones ringing, doors opening and closing, thunder and rain sounds, kitchen pots and pans clanging, etc. When our Golden Retriever puppies are ready for their new homes at approximatley 8 weeks of age, they have been exposed to most household situations and noises that they will have with their new familes. All that means is that the animal was not quite 24 months of age when the test was performed. Therefore, you can request copies of the hip, elbow, heart and eye reports for the sire and dam of any litter or puppy that is offered for sale. A reputable Golden Retriever breeder will be able to produce the OFA certificates or reports from a board certified radiologist, board certified cardiologist and a board certified ophthalmologist. Therefore, Reputable Texas Golden Retriever puppy breeders have tested sires and dams for hips, elbows, heart and eye disease. Additionally, a Board Certified Canine Ophthalmologist exams the eyes. Reputable Golden Retriever Breeders will follow the American Kennel Club Code Of Sportsmanship One would think that it should go without saying that Sportsmanship is very important in any competitive sport. Actions truly can speak louder than words. We hope that you will see that with any Golden Retriever exhibitor you may meet. He's our third Golden and is the king of our home. He has a larger than life personality and keeps us on our toes. Active, smart, playful, loving and funny all rolled into one handsome boy. He is everything a Golden should be. The perfect addition for a family with young children.Sue was great to work with. She brings knowledge and expertise about the breed and has earned her positive reputation. You can easily tell that she genuinely loves each and every puppy. They are treated with loving care in her home. From the first week with our family, Memphis has been going to work with his momma. What started as a way for Memphis to be socialized and cared for during the day soon progressed to his becoming a member of the team. Nowadays, when he goes to work, he welcomes all of the employees and clients to the company. He makes the rounds throughout the day to make sure everyone pays sufficient attention to him. When not hard at work, he is looking after his person. He helps wake her up and get her ready for school in the morning. He also makes sure she is never alone at bedtime. And of course, he always makes sure she has a playmate. But every busy dog also needs downtime. In all seriousness, Yellow Rose and Susan are amazing. When we first reached out to Susan, she welcomed us into her home so that we could meet her dogs and see where she raises and works with them. It was clear from the start that she is not simply a breeder. She clearly loves each of her babies as they are part of her family. The level of attention she gives to them is beyond compare and it shows in the process she uses for finding families for her puppies. With her application process and the puppy selection process, we felt confident that she would select the right puppy for us. And we were right. Memphis has been a wonderful addition to our family. He loves playing with our daughter, whether she is laying on him while reading a book or running around the yard playing ball. He loves to go on 5-mile walks with his momma or sleep on the couch and watch a movie with his daddy. He is a perfect match for our family. We would like to thank Susan for being such a thoughtful and caring breeder. The time and attention she gives to her dogs and her puppies is evident in everything she does. We recommend her and her dogs to everyone wanting a wonderful golden as part of their family. Jay and Santana Susan exhibits the finest qualities all responsible canine parents should seek out. She leaves nothing to chance with regard to her puppies health, wellbeing and placement. The amount of dedication Susan displays before, during and after a puppies placement is admirable.

Articles Many people always wonder if Phantom Goldendoodles are a different dog breed altogether or if they come with special needs in terms of care and grooming. Actually, a Phantom Goldendoodle has a similar temperament as any other Goldendoodle and will not require any special care. But what makes this breed so unique? I did some research, and here is what I found. The uniqueness of a Phantom Goldendoodle lies in their coat color and markings. This Phantom Goldendoodle is simply a type of Goldendoodle with two coat colors, with special markings and the colors appearing on specific parts of the body. They are so rare that we cannot possibly predict the outcome of having a Phantom Goldendoodle offspring in the breeding process. Phantom Goldendoodles will not develop their markings as they grow. This means that this puppy will have the same color as it matures, and also, the location of its secondary color will remain the same. So, if you are interested in buying or adopting this rare but extremely beautiful dog breed, keep reading to find out more about this breed. What Is A Phantom Goldendoodle? Bred from a Golden Retriever and a Poodle , a Phantom Goldendoodle is a type of Goldendoodle that comes in different color combinations, with the primary color being either black, red, chocolate, or silver. A black Phantom Goldendoodle may come with a secondary color of either brown, red, gray, silver, or apricot. In contrast, red and chocolate Phantom Goldendoodles are apricot, whereas silver Phantom Goldendoodles are typically cream and silver. The phantom coloring, also known as Dobie marking, is quite similar to a Manchester Terrier, Yorkie, or Doberman Pinscher. For the secondary color, it should only appear in specific places, such as the chest, eyes, inside the ears, muzzle, under the tail, and lower leg parts. Are Phantom Goldendoodles Rare? Phantom Goldendoodles are considered to be a rare dog breed because of its unique marking. A dog with phantom coloring means that it has to come in two different colors. However, there is more to the phantom coloring than just bringing two colors together because the secondary color of the dog, as mentioned previously, must be in specific locations for it to be considered phantom. This makes the dog very difficult to breed or to find. An adult Phantom Goldendoodle can be between 20 to 24 inches tall with a weight of 50 to 90 lbs. However, the parents of your Phantom Goldendoodle greatly impact the size and weight of the dog. Physical Appearance Apart from the coat color, the Phantom Goldendoodle has no major differences from other Goldendoodles when it comes to physical appearance. Just like the other Goldendoodles, they have three types of coat, including straight coat, wavy coat, and curly coat. However, the dog must come in two different colors, where the secondary color is in specific locations as elaborated previously. Phantom Goldendoodles have an average lifespan of between 10 to 15 years. Despite being known to be healthy dogs, they may experience genetic predispositions to certain health conditions. Dog owners usually use medication to treat the condition, but the dog may need surgery for severe cases. Arthritis — This condition mostly occurs with aging Phantom Goldendoodles, especially those suffering from hip dysplasia. However, for older dogs, the condition may go untreated. Epilepsy — It is a neurological disorder that may lead to seizures and serious implications if left untreated. Skin sensitivities — This condition is easy to treat and is caused by a wide range of factors, including shampoos, food or treats, etc. Allergies — This condition is usually the aftermath of an exposure to allergens from the outdoor environments, living spaces and food intakes. When it comes to providing the right care for your Phantom Goldendoodle, there are several aspects to consider, such as an exercise routine, a high-quality diet, multivitamin supplementation and the use of dental water additives. Exercise A Phantom Goldendoodle will need at least 30 minutes of exercise daily where you can walk or play with them. Exercising is important in keeping them mobile and their weight in check. It is also crucial to note that the amount of exercise the dog requires is dependent on its energy levels, size, age, and the individual dog itself. However, too much exercise can cause more harm than good. Diet When it comes to the diet, a Phantom Goldendoodle should have a nutritious and well-balanced diet. Since many Goldendoodles have a sensitive stomach, feeding them with human food may upset the stomach. This is why, to avoid these issues, you should feed the dog with high-quality dog food. For this reason, we recommend Pet Plate for vet-developed meals that are nutritious, fresh, and safe for your dog to consume. Multivitamins Multivitamins will help supplement a healthy diet to ensure the dog gets all the necessary nutrients required. They also help treat or prevent some ailments. For example, vitamins A, E, and C are very important to a dog since they can help prevent or reduce the symptoms of certain health conditions. They also come in handy to help kill bacteria, reduce bad breath and tartar buildup. Are Phantom Goldendoodles Aggressive? They are one of the sweetest dogs one can own since they are quite friendly and well-behaved. Always exercise patience and reward them with treats during training. Their quiet personality makes them a great choice as a family pet, especially for new owners living in apartments who are considerate towards their neighbors. Phantom Goldendoodles do better when they are with someone at home, and when left alone, they may become aggressive or destructive in ways, such as incessant digging and chewing on furniture. However, with proper training and socialization, they can be left home alone for a few hours so that you can complete your periodic errand runs. Phantom Goldendoodles often suffer from separation anxiety because they enjoy human interaction and should not be left alone beyond 8 hours. Unfortunately, this is when the dogs tend to misbehave the most. Grooming Tips For Phantom Goldendoodles Phantom Goldendoodles are not high maintenance, and they do not have any special needs from other types of Goldendoodles. They are generally healthy dogs with average needs, and most of the time, they easily adjust to different living situations. Do Phantom Goldendoodles Shed? Phantom Goldendoodles boasts low shedding and hypoallergenic abilities of the coat. This means that these dogs rarely shed, but they may shed a bit more during their shedding seasons. Here are additional grooming tips to reduce the shedding and ensure the dog stays healthy. Bathing Bathing the Phantom Goldendoodle at least once in two months using a great dog shampoo such as the Pro Pet Works All Natural 5 In 1 Oatmeal Shampoo is recommended to ensure the dog remains healthy and make it easy to brush through the tangles. However, do not overdo it because bathing the dog too often may strip away the natural essential oils protecting their skin. Check Price on Amazon Brushing Their Coats Brushing their coats weekly is quite crucial to tangle out the hair and, in turn, reduce shedding. With the Furminator Undercoat Tool , brushing is made easier. This tool features gentle bristles and an ergonomically designed handle to provide a better grip. Cleaning fluid and cotton balls can be used to clean the outer part of the ear only. Do not insert anything in the ear as it may result in injury and pain in the ear. Trim Their Nails Trimming their nails at least once a month is recommended because nails that are too long may result in injuries. Removes loose hair: reaches through the topcoat to remove loose undercoat hair without cutting skin or damaging the.FURejector button: just push the button to release hair with ease. However, the cost of any Goldendoodle varies from one breeder to another and it is dependent on a variety of factors such as location, age and show quality breeds. Do Phantom Goldendoodles Swim? Phantom Goldendoodles love to swim because both their parents are water-loving dogs. They will enjoy being in the water, from boating to pools, beaches, and lakes. Poodles and Golden Retrievers will easily get along because of their nearly identical traits like sociability, playfulness, and friendliness. They both make excellent friends with each other and love to mingle, as long as they are well trained and socialized early. Black and Brown Black and White By far, the most common phantom colored Goldendoodle combination is the traditional black and tan look that resembles a Doberman. Silver Phantom Goldendoodle Photo courtesy of beaudoodleboy on Instagram. Silver is the next most common primary color for this coat pattern. It is usually pared with the secondary color of cream. Red Phantom Goldendoodle Red as the primary color for phantom markings is extremely hard to come across. Chocolate Phantom Goldendoodle Photo courtesy of labmixbrothers on Instagram. Chocolate, or dark brown, is the last primary color option for the phantom pattern. Just like with red phantom dogs, the secondary color for chocolate phantoms is often apricot, cream, or white. The two most common sizes are standard and mini phantom Goldendoodles. Phantom mini Goldendoodles will usually weigh between pounds and have a height of inches. Standards will be significantly bigger with an average height of inches and weight of pounds. This amount is more than double the average price of a Goldendoodle! However, phantoms will always cost more than other Goldendoodle colors due to how rare and unique they are. Health Issues There are no known health issues that are specifically related to the phantom coat pattern. In fact, Goldendoodles are generally considered a healthy breed overall. However, your puppy will still be susceptible to the common health issues of both the Poodles and Golden Retrievers. While there are many companies out there to get quotes from, two highly rated options include Healthy Paws and Embrace. Read More: Do Goldendoodles Shed? The best way to ensure your Goldendoodle has the best odds of being hypoallergenic and non-shedding is to choose a generation with more Poodle DNA. Keep in mind, the more Poodle DNA your dog inherits, the curlier and harder to maintain their coat will be. In my opinion, one of the best investments you can make as as new Goldendoodle owner is in a quality slicker brush. That being said, all that affection and love can have some negative side-effects as well. Goldendoodles tend to be a bit clingy and can be prone to separation anxiety. Extremely friendly and oftentimes a bit silly , Goldendoodles are eager to please their humans. The Phantom Goldendoodle gets its unique coat coloring from its Poodle parent. Poodles are known for having a variety of coat colors and patterns, including the Phantom coloring. The Phantom coloring is characterized by a solid base color, such as black, brown, or grey, with distinct markings that are usually a lighter color. The markings appear on specific areas of the dog's body, such as the eyebrows, muzzle, legs, and chest, and can give the dog a striking and unique appearance. When a Golden Retriever is bred with a Poodle, there is a chance that the resulting puppies may inherit the Phantom coloring from their Poodle parent. The likelihood of a Goldendoodle having Phantom coloring depends on the genetics of the parents and the specific breeding process. It is important to note that while the Phantom Goldendoodle is a highly sought-after breed, breeders should always prioritize the health and welfare of the dogs above any desired coat color or pattern. Dog Coat Genetics Dog coat genetics is a complex topic that involves multiple genes and their interactions. The appearance of a dog's coat is determined by two types of pigments: eumelanin, which produces black or brown colors, and pheomelanin, which produces red or yellow colors. The amount and distribution of these pigments, along with other factors such as hair length and texture, determine the overall appearance of the dog's coat. There are several genes that control the coat color and pattern of dogs, including the Agouti gene, the Extension gene, and the Dilution gene. The Agouti gene controls the distribution of pigments along the hair shaft and determines whether a dog's coat will have a solid color or a pattern. The Extension gene controls the production of eumelanin and determines whether a dog's coat will be black or brown. The Dilution gene controls the intensity of the coat color and can cause a dog's coat to appear lighter or more muted. In addition to these genes, there are several other factors that can influence a dog's coat, including environmental factors such as sunlight and nutrition. For example, dogs that are exposed to a lot of sunlight may experience a fading of their coat color over time. Similarly, dogs that are not getting the proper nutrition may have dull or dry coats. Phantom Goldendoodles come in a variety of colors, which can range from solid colors to the distinctive Phantom coloring. Here are some of the different colors that a Phantom Goldendoodle can be: Black Phantom Goldendoodle Black is a common base color for Phantom Goldendoodles. Their coat will be a solid black color, with the Phantom markings appearing in tan or cream color. Black is a dominant gene, which means that if one parent carries the black gene, the puppies are likely to have a black base coat. Silver Phantom Goldendoodle Silver is a less common base color for Phantom Goldendoodles, but it is possible for them to have a silver-colored coat. The silver coloration is produced by a dilution of the black color gene, resulting in a lighter shade of grey. The Phantom markings will appear in a lighter shade of silver or white, creating a unique and striking appearance. Red Phantom Goldendoodle While less common than black or brown, some Phantom Goldendoodles can have a base color of red. The red coloration is produced by a recessive gene, meaning that both parents must carry the gene for a puppy to have a red coat. The Phantom markings will appear in a darker red or brown color, creating a striking contrast against the red base coat. The chocolate coloration is produced by a recessive gene that must be inherited from both parents for a puppy to have a chocolate coat. The Phantom markings will appear in a lighter brown or cream color, creating a unique and beautiful contrast against the chocolate base coat. Goldendoodles come in a wide variety of colors, ranging from solid colors to various coat patterns. In addition to the colors that are common in Phantom Goldendoodles, here are some other colors that Goldendoodles can be: White : Goldendoodles can have a cream-colored coat, which can range from a light white to a deep golden hue. Apricot: This is a popular color for Goldendoodles, and it can range from a pale yellow to a deep orange. Chocolate : Goldendoodles have a chocolate coat, which can range from a light to a darker chocolate color. Parti: Goldendoodles can also have a Parti coat pattern, which features two or more distinct colors in a specific pattern. This can include combinations of white, black, brown, and other colors. Overall, Goldendoodles come in a wide variety of colors and coat patterns , which can make them a popular and attractive choice for many families. It's important to work with a reputable breeder who can provide information on the dog's lineage and potential coat coloring to ensure a happy and healthy match between the dog and owner. Size can be a significant factor in determining the price of a Goldendoodle. Generally speaking, the larger the dog, the more expensive it will be. This is because larger dogs typically require more food, larger living spaces, and more expensive medical care. In the case of Goldendoodles, size can vary depending on the size of the Poodle parent. Goldendoodles can range from small to large, with some weighing as little as 15 pounds and others weighing as much as 90 pounds. As a result, the price of a Goldendoodle can vary widely depending on its size. Smaller Goldendoodles tend to be more expensive than larger ones, simply because they are in higher demand. Many people prefer smaller dogs because they are easier to handle, require less space, and may have fewer health issues. As a result, breeders may charge a premium for smaller Goldendoodles. However, larger Goldendoodles can also be expensive due to the increased costs of raising and caring for them. Larger dogs require more food, larger living spaces, and more expensive medical care. Additionally, larger Goldendoodles may be less common than smaller ones, which can drive up the price. Does Pattern or Color Affect Price? The pattern or color of a Goldendoodle can affect its price, although the extent to which it does can vary. Certain patterns or colors may be rarer or in higher demand, which can drive up the price. Conversely, if a certain pattern or color is more common, the price may be lower. For example, Phantom Goldendoodles with a distinctive Phantom coloring are often in high demand and may be more expensive than Goldendoodles with other coat colors or patterns. Similarly, Goldendoodles with rare or unique colors such as black or parti-color may also be more expensive than those with more common colors. The lifespan of a Phantom Goldendoodle can vary depending on several factors, including genetics, diet, exercise, and overall health. On average, a Phantom Goldendoodle can live for 10 to 15 years. Phantom Goldendoodles are generally a healthy breed, and their lifespan can be extended through proper care and attention. Providing your dog with regular veterinary check-ups, a nutritious diet, and plenty of exercise can help ensure a longer, healthier life. While not all Phantom Goldendoodles will experience these health problems, it's important for owners to be aware of them and to work with their veterinarian to ensure their dog receives proper care and treatment. Here are some common health issues that Phantom Goldendoodles may be at risk for: Hip Dysplasia: This is a genetic condition in which the hip joint does not develop properly, leading to discomfort and difficulty with movement. Ear Infections: Goldendoodles, like many breeds with floppy ears, may be prone to ear infections. This can be caused by a buildup of bacteria, yeast, or debris in the ear canal. Allergies: Goldendoodles may be prone to allergies, which can cause skin irritation, itching, and other symptoms. Eye Problems: Progressive retinal atrophy and cataracts are two common eye conditions that can affect Goldendoodles, especially those with Poodle genetics. Von Willebrand's Disease: This is a genetic bleeding disorder that affects the blood's ability to clot properly. It can cause excessive bleeding and bruising. Gastric Torsion Bloat : This is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition in which the stomach twists, trapping gas and food inside. It requires immediate veterinary attention. Do Phantom Goldendoodles Shed? Phantom Goldendoodles are typically considered to be low to non-shedding dogs, which can make them a good choice for people with allergies or who are sensitive to dog hair. However, it's important to note that all dogs shed to some extent, even if they are considered to be low-shedding or non-shedding. The amount of shedding in Phantom Goldendoodles can vary depending on several factors, including their individual genetics and the type of coat they inherit from their parents. Some Phantom Goldendoodles may have a curly, low-shedding coat like their Poodle parent, while others may have a wavier or more hair-like coat that sheds slightly more. To reduce shedding in Phantom Goldendoodles, regular grooming and brushing is recommended. Brushing your dog's coat regularly can help remove loose hair and prevent matting, which can reduce shedding. Additionally, keeping your dog's coat clean and well-maintained can help promote healthy skin and a shiny coat. Final Thoughts Phantom Goldendoodles are a unique and beautiful hybrid breed that combines the best traits of both Golden Retrievers and Poodles. Their striking Phantom coloring and low-shedding coats make them a popular choice for families and individuals looking for a friendly, intelligent, and hypoallergenic dog. While Phantom Goldendoodles can be expensive and require regular grooming and care, they can make wonderful and beloved companions when properly cared for. It's important to work with a reputable breeder who prioritizes the health and welfare of their dogs and can provide information on potential coat coloring, health issues, and temperament. They should be able to live between 10 to 14 years provided they enjoy good health practices and are given the right nutrients in both food and in supplements too. There are other factors that can impact the overall lifespan of the Goldendoodle, so it is worth noting that the years lifespan is not set in stone. They can be a little too energetic and if left with all that energy and no place to channel it, your sweet Goldendoodle might cause you some problems in the long run. Make out time to exercise and train your phantom Goldendoodle from the puppy stage till they eventually become adults. Go on walks for at least one hour a day or take them swimming or basically involve them in mental exercises too. When it comes to training your phantom Goldendoodle, then you would find it a lot easier than expected. This is because the Goldendoodle is an intelligent dog breed and trainability for the puppy should be quite high. They work well when trained using positive reinforcement. Rather than being stern and authoritative on your Goldendoodle while training it, employ a gentler or softer approach towards it. Reward good behavior with treats and toys but be careful not to overdo it as you might spoil them a little too much. But it is recommended that you do this yourself as it can help strengthen the bond between you and your beloved Goldendoodle puppy. Goldendoodles in general are a healthy breed. But they are prone or susceptible to a few health defects which can be inherited from their Golden Retriever and Poodle parents. However, these are not specific to the phantom Goldendoodles, but all Goldendoodles. The answer to this question depends a lot on the coat type of the phantom Goldendoodle in question. As we already know, the phantom Goldendoodle has three coat types which are: Flat or short coat Wavy or shaggy coat Curly coat Of all three coat types, Goldendoodles born with the flat or short coat type are more likely to shed than those born with the other coat types. Since most phantom Goldendoodles are born with wavy or curly coats, then we can say that the phantom Goldendoodle is a low to minimal-shedding dog breed. How Much Are Phantom Goldendoodles? This color pattern includes one base coat color and special markings in the second coat color. Phantom Goldendoodles can come in several different color varieties, including black, red, and chocolate, to name a few. Are Phantom Goldendoodles Rare? Yes, phantom Goldendoodles are on the rarer side. There are specific coat pattern requirements for a Goldendoodle to be considered a phantom. Specific coat genes are needed to produce a Goldendoodle with the phantom coat pattern. Goldendoodles have a lot of genetics for coat patterns and colors, so it is sometimes the luck of the draw when a phantom Goldendoodle is born. Are Phantom Goldendoodles More Expensive? Yes, phantom Goldendoodles tend to be more expensive than other types of Goldendoodles. You can expect to pay about twice as much for a phantom Goldendoodle than a standard Goldendoodle. This is because PGs are rarer than solid Goldendoodles. Some PGs are more expensive than others as well. Certain types of PGs are more challenging to produce than others. For example, a black phantom is likely to be less expensive than a blue merle phantom. This is because a black Phantom Goldendoodle is much more common than the more complex blue merle phantom. Phantom Goldendoodles Sizes Phantom Goldendoodles come in all of the sizes that regular Goldendoodles do. This includes the standard, medium, miniature, and toy sizes. Standard PGs are the mix between either a standard poodle and a golden retriever or two standard Goldendoodles. This is the largest of the four Goldendoodle sizes, and they can weigh anywhere between 50 and 90 pounds. Standard PGs tend to be 20 to 26 inches tall at the shoulder. Medium PGs are the size in between standard and miniature Goldendoodles. Medium Goldendoodles weigh 35 to 50 pounds, and they tend to be 17 to 20 inches tall at the shoulder. In addition to standard and medium sizes, PGs can also come in miniature and toy sizes. Miniature Goldendoodles are a bit larger than toy Goldendoodles, and they can weigh between 25 and 35 pounds. Miniature PGs are also 15 to 17 inches tall at the shoulder. On the other hand, toy PGs typically weigh between 10 and 25 pounds, and they cannot be taller than 15 inches tall at the shoulder. Are Phantom Goldendoodles Hypoallergenic? Like many other Poodle mixes, Goldendoodles are often labeled as being hypoallergenic. There are many different kinds of PGs, from the more common black phantom to the rarer merle phantom. Here we will go into more detail on the different types of phantom Goldendoodles out there. They have a black base coat and phantom markings in another color. There are many different types of black PGs, including black and tan, black and white, black and red, and more. Any base coat color that a Goldendoodle can have can be the color of the phantom markings in a black phantom Goldendoodle. These PGs are usually medium-sized with long hair or short coats depending upon their origin. Silver Phantoms These are a relatively common form of PGs. Silver Phantom Goldendoodles will have a silver base coat and a different secondary color for their phantom markings. Cream and white are the most common secondary coat colors for silver phantoms. However, different secondary colors are technically possible as well Red Phantoms Red phantoms are rarer than black and silver PGs. Red phantoms will have a red base coat, and their phantom markings will usually be in white, cream, or apricot. Chocolate Phantoms Chocolate or brown phantoms are other types of PGs that are relatively rare. These dogs will have a chocolate or darker brown base coat and a lighter secondary color. Usually, chocolate phantom Goldendoodles will have cream, apricot, or white phantom markings. Like the red phantom, you may find that chocolate PGs are more expensive than black or silver phantoms. This is simply because the chocolate Phantom Goldendoodle is on the rarer side. Sable Phantoms A sable coat pattern involves hair that is darker at the roots and lighter at the tips. In Goldendoodles, a sable coat coloration can come in a brown base with red, apricot, blonde tips or a black base with silver tips. Usually, the phantom markings will match the light tips if they are present. Like the other rare Phantom Goldendoodle types, sable phantoms tend to be more expensive and a bit more difficult to find than some of the other more common types of PGs. Brindle Phantoms A brindle coat is a striping of dark and light fur. Sometimes this pattern can appear similar to that of tiger stripes. In Goldendoodles, brindle coats can come in black, chocolate, silver, and red. When the phantom pattern occurs on top of a brindle coat, the phantom markings will usually match the lighter color present in the brindle pattern. Like the sable phantom Goldendoodle, brindle phantoms are considerably rare. As a result, Goldendoodles with a brindle phantom coat tend to be more expensive than black and silver PGs. Merle Phantoms Merles are one of the most popular and sought-after coat patterns for Goldendoodles. This is because their unique marbled coats are genuinely stunning, and these can come in blue, sable, and chocolate merle varieties. When you combine a merle color pattern with the phantom pattern, you get a truly unique dog. Usually, these dogs will have a blue, chocolate, or brindle merle base coat with light tan or apricot markings. Due to how rare and sought-after merle and phantom Goldendoodles both are, you can expect to pay more for a merle PG than for a more common type of phantom. It is important to note that merle Goldendoodles can also come in Parti and tri-colored coat patterns, and these can sometimes be mistaken for the phantom pattern in Goldendoodles. Phantoms will always only have the phantom coat pattern, and they will not have more than two coat colors. As a result, some Goldendoodle coat patterns are out there that could be mistaken for the phantom pattern. This is especially true for those that are new to this designer breed. Some Goldendoodle coat patterns commonly mistaken for the phantom pattern primarily include the Parti and Tri-colored coat patterns. Here we will get into these Goldendoodle coat patterns in more detail. Parti Parti colored Goldendoodles will have a coat with two colors, and one of these colors must be white. Tri-Colored Tri-colored Goldendoodles can appear pretty similar to the phantom in their markings. However, Tri-colored Goldendoodles are not classified as phantoms because their coats contain three colors and not two. Tri-colored Goldendoodles often come in white, black, and a light tan. This is similar to the coats common in Bernedoodles. Where to Buy Phantom Goldendoodles? Most people choose to get their Goldendoodles from a Goldendoodle breeder, especially when searching for a rarer type of Goldendoodle like the phantom. Although there is nothing wrong with getting a dog from a breeder, you should always ensure that the breeder you are purchasing a puppy from is reputable. A reputable Goldendoodle breeder will always health test their adult breeding dogs. These health tests include those that are recommended for purebred Poodles and Golden Retrievers. In addition to health testing, reputable Goldendoodle breeders will always keep both their puppies and adult dogs up to date with things like vaccinations and wellness visits with a vet. In addition to this, you should also see where the puppies and adult breeding dogs are spending most of their time. Ethical and reputable breeders will be more than happy to show you these things, so it is a red flag if they refuse to do so. Although you may have a more difficult time finding a phantom Goldendoodle from a Goldendoodle rescue, it can be a good option for those who feel uncomfortable purchasing a PG puppy from a Goldendoodle breeder. However, it is unlikely that you will find any rare types of PGs such as the merle or sable phantom from these kinds of places. The phantom Goldendoodle is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a unique dog with a good-natured personality. As a result, the Goldendoodle can be great for active lifestyles. These dogs also tend to behave well around children and other dogs, making them an excellent choice for a family pet. Gifts for Dog Lovers Do you know someone who loves their dog more than anything? If a dog has phantom coloring that means they are two different colors. But phantom coloring is more than just bringing two colors together. The secondary color must be in specific locations for a dog to be considered phantom. Phantom marking, which is sometimes referred to as Dobie marking, is similar to that of a Doberman, Yorkie, or Manchester Terrier. The primary color covers most of the body, head and legs on a Phantom Goldendoodle. The secondary color usually appears above the eyes, on the muzzle, chest, and lower parts of the legs, and often inside the ears and under the tail. What colors are Phantom Goldendoodles? While the markings may be similar to the black and tan of a Doberman, the colors of phantom Goldendoodles can vary. Phantom Goldendoodles can come in different color combinations, but the primary color is typically black, Red, Chocolate, or Silver. Black Phantom Goldendoodles may have a secondary color of apricot, red, cream, gray, silver, or brown. The secondary color for red Phantom Goldendoodles and chocolate Phantom Goldendoodles is typically apricot. Silver Phantom Goldendoodles are usually silver and cream. Puppies can be born with certain coloring or markings that change or go away when it becomes an adult. Phantom Goldendoodles do not develop their markings, however. Caring for Phantom Goldendoodles People sometimes wonder if Phantom Goldendoodles are a different breed of dog, or if they have any special needs in terms of care of grooming. It just indicates a unique and very special marking. Phantoms are so rare that we cannot predict when we will have more or how often we will have them. Phantom Goldendoodles have similar patterns to Tuxedo Goldendoodles. What types of Phantom Goldendoodles are there? Chocolate Phantom Goldendoodle puppy with tan markings image: campdoodlewoods. Sable Phantom Goldendoodle This type has a coat with black-tipped hair and roots of any solid color. The black tips can appear anywhere on the coat. Sable Phantoms will often look different as adults than they do as puppies. Their fading gene makes their coat lighten to an almost solid color as they age. Usually, their puppy coat is solid black or has markings like a Phantom Goldendoodle. However, as they age, their coat will change rapidly to a white, gray, or light cream color. They are also referred to as tan phantoms. What other colors can Goldendoodles be? Goldendoodles come in different colors than just gold. Common Goldendoodle colors include: black, red, apricot, cream, and white. They can also have patterns such as merle, brindle, phantom, sable, and parti. Red Merle Goldendoodles The Goldendoodle can have a red merle color. Merle is the result of a genetic mutation. Merle Goldendoodles have genes related to those that cause albinism. They can have pink noses and blue eyes. Goldendoodle merles may be found in various color patterns, including silver and red merles. Blue Merle Goldendoodles Another color is the blue merle. Blue or partly blue eyes are common in these puppies. Black Goldendoodles Black Goldendoodles are relatively rare. However, having a black Goldendoodle is more likely if they are mixed in the second generation or third generation. When a black Goldendoodle parent crosses with a black Poodle, the kids almost invariably have black fur. Apricot Goldendoodles Apricot is another color of the Goldendoodles. The coat color will, however, change as the puppies grow old. Puppies from a red parent will typically be red or apricot. This means the color will lighten after the puppies reach ten weeks. Apricot and red are similar. However, red Goldendoodles are much darker, while apricot Goldendoodles have a lighter color. The red gene gets diluted to produce a light yellow or dark cream color, similar to how red Labradors turn yellow. Blue Goldendoodles Blue Goldendoodles are rare to come by. This color is always difficult to identify. It will have a tone that is similar to silver or grey but with a hue that reflects blue. This unique color is inherited from the Poodle. Many people are surprised that there are blue Poodles in existence and Goldendoodles! There are a few more to mention just to make sure we cover them all! White Goldendoodles. A Teacup Goldendoodle is usually a multigenerational breed created by breeding two very small Toy Goldendoodles together. They usually breed two Toy Goldendoodles runts to create an increasingly smaller and smaller Goldendoodle size. Teacup Goldendoodles are a controversial size as they have many size related health issues. A Teacup Goldendoodle gets to 8 to 13 inches .They are one of the shortest Goldendoodle sizes where the Micro Goldendoodle is about 1 inch shorter. They are the third smallest Goldendoodle size and are slightly larger than the Teacup and Micro Goldendoodle. Toy Goldendoodles are sometimes referred to as Petite Goldendoodles. Although she stands no more than 10 inches tall and weighs between 4—6 pounds, the Toy Poodle has a big, playful personality that can fill up a room. While frequently associated with France, Standard Poodles were first developed in Germany, where they were used in duck hunting. They have lower exercise needs than many other dog breeds, but still benefit from a daily walk and play session. Poodles of all sizes have curly coats with extensive grooming needs. Their coat grows continuously, calling for a trim every four to six weeks. However, there is no such thing as a completely "hypoallergenic" dog. People with allergies should spend time with the breed before officially bringing home a Toy Poodle puppy. But during this long life , they are predisposed to a few health issues that may require care. Pet parents may benefit from investing in pet insurance early in life. Progressive Retinal Atrophy Progressive retinal atrophy PRA is a group of diseases that cause a breakdown of the photoreceptor cells rods and cones on the retina. Initially, the dog may have difficulty seeing in the dark, but the condition can cause blindness over time. PRA is an inherited disease and there are currently no effective treatments available. Patellar Luxation The patella kneecap is a small bone that normally sits in a groove within the femur at the knee. In dogs with patellar luxation, the patella moves luxates outside of its assigned groove when the knee is flexed. This movement can cause discomfort and may eventually lead to arthritis. Many pets will skip or run on three legs when the patella is out of place. While some cases will correct themselves, in more severe cases the patella remains out of place. In mild cases, joint supplements such as fish oils and glucosamine or anti-inflammatory medications are used to control pain and prevent arthritis. In more severely affected dogs, surgery may be recommended. This causes pain and limping occur as the bone breaks down. In some cases, pain can be controlled with medications. In severe cases, surgery to remove the head of the femur may be recommended. Symptoms include visible debris, redness, odor, head shaking, and scratching. If any of these signs are noted, take your dog to the veterinarian for an exam. In most cases, ear infections can be resolved by cleaning the ear and with topical medications. Toy Poodles develop ear infections more often than most other breeds. This may be partly due to Poodles having long ear canals with excess curly hair to trap in moisture and debris. Trimming not plucking the hair from the ear may help reduce the incidence of ear infections. Dogs with chronic or recurring ear infections frequently have allergies that should be addressed. Dental Disease Dental disease is one of the most common conditions seen in dogs as they age, especially in small breeds like the Toy Poodle. Dental disease occurs when bacterial tartar and plaque build up, leading to inflammation of the tissues around the teeth—and eventually to tooth and bone decay. Daily tooth brushing with a dog-specific toothpaste is the best way to prevent dental disease, though some diets, treats, and chew toys also help prevent plaque and tartar. Tracheal Collapse Tracheal collapse occurs when the trachea commonly called the windpipe flattens. This happens due to weak cartilage rings or the sagging of a membrane along the trachea. Most cases are treated using medications, but in severe cases where breathing is impeded, surgery may be necessary. Toy poodles are likely genetically predisposed to tracheal collapse. When on walks, use a harness instead of a collar, as pressure on the trachea can cause further damage. The condition causes a deficiency in a protein called the von Willebrand factor, which is necessary for platelets to stick together and form a clot. In dogs that are deficient in this protein, the blood may have difficulty clotting, which can lead to bleeding from the nose, vulva, bladder, or gums. Additionally, dogs with this condition may bleed for a long time after trauma or surgery. If there is concern about VWD, a screening test may be performed. This test measures how long it takes for a small cut in the mouth to stop bleeding. If the time is longer than usual, additional testing is needed to confirm VWD. Because some dogs with VWD do not have notably prolonged bleeding until later in adulthood, blood levels of von Willebrand factor can be measured to help with diagnosis. Most veterinarians recommend testing for VWD prior to any planned surgery, including spays, neuters, and dewclaw removals. Puppies should be fed a diet formulated specifically for puppies or designated for all life stages. For Toy Poodle adults, dental-focused diets may be recommended by your veterinarian to help prevent dental disease. Toy poodle puppies, however, should eat three to four small meals per day on a consistent schedule to help maintain their blood sugar. Additionally, the feeding guide labels on the dog food provides valuable information for pet parents. Just remember: In small breeds like the Toy Poodle, calories in treats add up quickly. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in skin and joint supplements , fish oil, and even in some specially formulated dog foods. These fatty acids act as natural anti-inflammatories that help support the skin, coat, kidneys, joints, and heart. They are playful and self-confident when socialized at a young age. While relatively calm, Toy Poodles enjoy playtime and exercise with the family. The breed is gentle with children and other pets, though all interactions between dogs and kids should be supervised. Because these pups are so tiny, they can accidentally be hurt during playtime. Toy Poodles have lower exercise needs than many other dog breeds, but still benefit from a daily walk and play session. Toy Poodle Behavior Toy Poodles bond closely to their families and may develop separation anxiety if left alone for extended periods. They can also be sensitive to stress, and sudden changes in the home environment may lead to gastrointestinal upset. Additionally, because Poodles are so smart, they need mental stimulation to keep themselves entertained—and out of trouble. Bored dogs are more likely to bark, jump, be destructive, or misbehave. Toy Poodle Training Toy poodles want to please their owners. Paired with their smarts, this makes them an easy breed to train. As always, training is most successful when based on positive reinforcement with praise and tasty treats. Fun Activities for Toy Poodle Obedience training. Toy poodles double down on the froofroo rep with their tiny size and by sometimes sporting those fancy haircuts. But trust us, poodles are more than happy to get down and dirty. In fact, poodles started life as hunting dogs for the rich and famous in Europe. What made them so popular, however, is their incredible intelligence. Generally regarded as one of the smartest dog breeds , poodles are highly trainable, extremely eager to please people, and love being the center of attention through tricks and activities. None of that has changed over the years: The poodle consistently ranks as one of the 10 most popular breeds in the world. Appearance Toy, miniature , and standard poodles are all the same breed of dog, so they'll look more or less the same—except for their size. Toy poodles are the smallest of the three, standing no more than 10 inches tall and generally weighing right around 5 pounds. All three classifications of poodle have squarish bodies, generally about as long as they are tall. Poodles have a proud bearing, with heads kept high and their large, dark-colored eyes looking alert. Poodle coats come in a stunning array of colors from black, through the browns and yellow colors all the way to white. Bi-colored coats are also seen, though not hugely common. Poodles don't shed much , making them great for owners with allergies. While there aren't technically any hypoallergenic dogs , most people will find toy poodles close enough to not really quibble over it. Additionally, groomers can style a poodle's fur many different ways, and the breed has become famous for its outlandish show cuts. They tend to consider themselves a vital part of the family, have strong personalities, and learn things in a flash. They will get legitimately disgruntled if they think they're being left out of family activities. Of course, this temperament is kind of a double-edged sword. Toy poodles are devoted family pets who love to be the center of attention, learn tricks, and take walks. They're excellent in agility and obedience training and will play with children for hours. Because of their extreme intelligence, poodles are even quick to learn how to engage in more complex games such as hide and seek. On the flip side, poodles can develop common stress behaviors associated with separation anxiety. If you leave them alone for too long or don't give them the attention they deserve, these pups can be passive aggressive and do things they know you don't like—while you're there to watch. The toy poodle's teensy-tiny size makes it tempting to carry him everywhere, and he's so cute that it's no surprise owners are tempted to spoil him rotten. But, again, poodles are brilliant. A toy poodle who is carried everywhere will start to expect to be carried everywhere. As a result, every poodle owner should take full advantage of the breed's brilliance and eagerness to please, and obedience train their pet as quickly as possible. Living Needs Here is where the toy poodle's aptitude as an ideal family pet really shines. While poodles can be active dogs and will require some kind of daily exercise, toy poodles can get all their needs taken care of right there on the living room floor. Nichols says these little dogs will be happy with whatever type and amount of exercise their owner provides. Their tiny size makes them marvelous apartment-dwellers , and their innate desire to be lapdogs makes them great for seniors and people with mobility issues. Poodles of all sizes make great therapy dogs , and toy poodles in particular will love sitting near you for hours at a time. Toy poodles do great in households with other dogs, and the breed's lower prey drive , high intelligence, and friendly attitude make them ideal for houses with cats as well. Poodles love children and are eager to play, but most vets and breeders will steer households with children under the age of 10 toward the miniature or standard varieties, simply because the toy poodles are so small. They can be easily hurt by a falling child or by being handled too roughly. Always supervise children when they play with any dog and teach them how to properly interact with pets. Care No breed is perfect, and for poodles the biggest setback is going to be their grooming needs. That coat that is so shed-free and allergy-friendly? It's going to need brushing. A lot of brushing —ideally, every day. Because his hair curls in on itself, it's extremely prone to matting and, if left unchecked, can cause skin infections and have to be shaved off entirely. Aside from the brushing, poodles will need a bath and haircut every four to six weeks. While show dogs have a variety of complicated cuts to choose from, most non-show owners opt for a more standard sporting cut because of its ease to maintain. Like all dogs, you'll need to trim his nails regularly. Special attention should be paid to the ears , as their hair will grow up inside the ear canal, trapping wax and dirt and leading to infections. Because toy varieties have the same number of teeth as other poodle varieties but their mouths are smaller, it's easy for food to get trapped and decay to occur rapidly. Health Though the three varieties of poodles are the same breed, they do not suffer from the same conditions. While the standard poodle will be more prone to bloat , toy poodles can be slightly more susceptible to blood clotting disorders including Von Willebrand's disease and hemophilia , Beck says. Finally, smaller dogs can have a higher propensity for dental problems. In addition to being at greater risk for tooth decay , they don't lose their puppy teeth as easily as bigger dogs, Beck says. Reputable toy poodle breeders will conduct all health tests recommended by the Canine Health Information Center. History The poodle is the national dog of France, which is why you'll hear many people refer to the standard poodle as the "French poodle. Today in France, the poodle is known as the caniche, which translates to "duck dog. Toy poodles began to see favor by the late 18th century, appearing in artwork and in the courts of French aristocracy. The American Kennel Club recognized the poodle as a registered breed in .Jinkee , a 5-year-old red toy poodle, has more than 70, followers on Instagram. Was this page helpful? Officially, a Toy Poodle is any Poodle who stands up to 10 inches at the shoulder. Weight is usually about lbs, but many individuals are smaller, and many individuals are a little larger and are referred to as "oversize" Toys. These larger Toy Poodles are not a problem — they make sturdy pets — but smaller Toy Poodles can definitely be a problem. Some breeders use these cutesy, made-up phrases as "marketing terms" for smaller Toy Poodles. But there is no such breed as a Teacup Poodle. There is only one Toy Poodle breed. As long as a Poodle doesn't exceed 10 inches at the shoulder, it doesn't matter whether he weighs 2 pounds or 6 pounds or 12 pounds. Some individuals are simply smaller or larger than others. I recommend that you acquire a Toy Poodle who will weigh at least 6 pounds when mature. The pounders can be okay if you're very, very careful with them. But the so-called "teacup" Poodles who weigh less than 4 pounds are at great risk for health problems. They need constant protection because they are so fragile. They tend to have difficulty regulating their blood sugar and are vulnerable to hypoglycemic comas. Their internal organs are tiny and often not strong enough to survive a normal lifetime. Responsible Toy Poodle breeders never try to produce these high-risk creatures. If a tiny one pops up in one of their litters, they seek out the best home that can keep it alive, but they try hard not to produce them in the first place. If you reward irresponsible breeders by giving them your money, you're just encouraging them to keep producing tiny, fragile, short-lived creatures. How can I tell how big a Poodle puppy will be? No one can predict this with certainty, because some bloodlines grow more quickly or more slowly, some litters grow more quickly or more slowly, and some individual puppies grow more quickly or more slowly. But generally. At 3 months old, multiple by 3. But the younger the puppy, the less certain these estimates will be. Where does the name Poodle come from? Hunters have long used dogs to retrieve ducks and geese shot down over the water. In Germany, one such dog was called a Pudelhund "water dog". From Germany, the Pudel was taken to France, where it was miniaturized and became more of a show and circus dog and family pet. This is why you might hear the breed called a "French Poodle. How long do Toy Poodles live, and what health problems do they have? Their lifespan depends on how you care for them and on any health problems they may have inherited from their parents. Many do make good pets, yes, in the right homes. But before you choose ANY purebred, crossbreed, or mixed breed, you need to know what a purebred dog really IS — and what crossbred and mixed breed dogs really are. The origins of the poodles are still discussed with a dispute over whether the poodle descends from the old French Barbet breed or from Germany as a type of water dog. Life Span Did You Know? This dog breed can adapt to a wide range of living situations due to their small size. As a matter of fact, they have trouble dealing with any kind of alone time. Banned dogs There are four breeds of dogs that are banned in Northern Ireland: Pit Bull terrier Dogo Argentino Fila Braziliero It is an offence to breed, sell, offer for sale or make a gift of a dog of a banned type. A dog identified as banned by a dog warden will be presumed to be so, unless the owner can prove that it's not banned in court. In most cases, a court will order a dog seized as a banned breed to be put down, even where the council decides not to prosecute the owner. An owner of a seized Pit Bull must let the court know that they plan to give evidence that the dog is not a banned dog type at least 14 days before the hearing is due to take place. Once seized, your dog will be kept in kennels before a court hearing - this could be for several weeks or months. Judging whether your dog is a banned breed A council dog warden, or an expert used by the council, will assess your dog's physical characteristics. They will judge the type of dog you have and whether it appears to be a banned breed. Following the assessment, the council will decide either of the following: your dog will be released if it is not believed to be a banned breed your dog will be kept in kennels while the council applies to a court for a destruction order You can give up ownership of your dog but you cannot be forced to. If you do, your dog could be destroyed without a court order. This exempts the dog from the ban as long as the exemption conditions are met. The exemption conditions are: the dog is kept leashed and muzzled when in a public place when not in a public place, the dog is in sufficiently secure conditions the dog is made available to council dog wardens for inspection the council is notified of any change of address of the dog, or of the death or export of the dog third party insurance policy is taken out for the dog In these circumstances you have two months to show that the exemption conditions have been met. Then you can apply for dog a licence from the council. If the exemption conditions are not met, it is likely to lead to the destruction of the dog concerned. Where a dog has been exempted from the ban on certain dog types, it is still an offence to breed from that dog, advertise it for sale or exchange, or transfer its ownership without informing the council.
