Goldendoodles are born toothless, just like human beings. After two weeks of birth, they develop their first set of 28 milk teeth, which are typically sharp. The growth process takes a maximum of 8 to 10 weeks. However, the development of teeth in puppies varies between individuals. Incisors grow first, followed by canines and then premolars. How do I persuade them that the comfy bed they have on the floor beside it is a better option? Five steps to keep your dog off the sofa 1. So, for example — depending on how many dog beds we have in the house — when I decide to go into the lounge, I take their beds with me, then call them through and tell them to go into their beds. The point of having the reward in that particular spot is so that the dog can clearly see it, which gives him or her a reason to start in a positive place; but, ultimately, learning to ignore any distractions because they soon realise that, by staying in their beds, they will earn that reward. After your dog sees you sprawled out on your sofa, he rushes over and jumps up to share in the fun. So now you must determine what to do. Should you let your pup on the couch? You need to take into consideration that your pup may be dirty and jump on the couch. He may leave dog hairs on your new sofa. Of course, you could always put a throw cover on the couch that you can remove and wash. The important thing is to make a decision. And everyone in the household must be consistent in either letting the dog on the sofa or not. I put a washable throw cover on the sofa. Will my dog get off the furniture on command? If he guards space, get the help of a positive-reinforcement trainer or behaviorist to deal with the issue. Will I mind dog hair and dirt on my furniture? Even with a removable throw cover, some dirt and hair may get through to our sofas. And some doggie odors too. There will be less space on the sofa with a pup up No matter how much we love our dog, we may be uncomfortably squished up against the sofa back with him accompanying us. But if you have a lab or golden, there may not be enough room for you to both comfortably share the couch. The couch will have more wear and tear if a dog shares it A dog bounding up on our sofa unfortunately leads to our furniture not lasting as long. Our canine companions can be comfortable anywhere. So their desire to be on the couch often stems from more than the need to feel relaxed. Being on the couch with us is also a bonding moment. The couch has our scent on it, which also draws our dogs to jump on it to relax. Provide a comfy alternative place to relax Having a really nice padded dog bed as an alternative should help your dog choose to lie there. Generally, you want this to be more than just a thin crate pad. Many dogs love luxurious, cushioned ones. My golden love beds with a bolster around the outside where he can rest his head as if it were a pillow. Have these beds in the places you hang out so that your dog has a desirable alternative to your couch. Teach him that good things happen on the bed. You can give him a favorite chew or a stuffed Extreme Kong. I stuff my Kongs with a pate dog food and freeze them overnight so it takes some time for the dog to get the filling out. But train him to get up on the recliner. You may want to confine him to another room like the kitchen. Still have a comfortable dog bed there for him to enjoy. Of course, a young lab requires a lot of exercise. So take him for a long walk, play fetch, or have him play with a compatible doggie playmate before you leave. You can teach basic commands and can also teach him to get off the couch if he gets on. Doing so can teach him that he needs to jump up to get treats. If he loves toys, you can use a toy to lure him off. Still verbally praise and pet him if he finds that rewarding. You can also reward when he goes to his own bed. But be aware that some dogs will get creative and move them or lie down between them. Sometimes putting foil on the sofa cushions will deter a dog from jumping on the couch. With either the blocking technique or the foil, first do them with you in the room or where you can view the pup on camera so that you know whether it works. This is more likely with younger dogs. Another deterrent that may work is called an X-mat. He should jump right off. Block access to windows near the couch If your dog gets up on the sofa just to see out the window next to it, blocking access to the view outside may help deter him from getting on it. You can use a window shade, curtains, a self-stick film for the window that blocks outside view, or blinds to block the view. Also, many dogs will just look under or push aside such window coverings. Such methods can not only ruin the bond with your dog, they can also cause some behavioral problems in your dog. Even though they may make your dog get off the furniture, they can also cause unexpected problems. Your pup may suddenly fear loud noises. He may fear the room or area the couch is in. He may become aggressive in that area. There are better methods stated above to keep our pups off the couch. Instead, lure him off with a yummy treat or a toy. Like some other devices, these can lead to unwanted fear and aggression issues. But, like other harsh devices, it can lead to unwanted fear and aggression issues. And some water-loving dogs may even think it fun! There is no right or wrong answer. The important thing is that everyone in the household must be consistent in following that decision or the dog will be confused. Jumping up onto the sofa is not a problem as it's a soft landing. As long as he is not taking repeated flying leaps off the sofa I don't think that jumping down is a problem either. The thing to avoid below a year is repetitive jumping of the kind that would happen in dog sports like Flyball or Agility. Dogs are usually not allowed to start training in those sports till they reach one year. The keys are: - never allow your dog to pull you a single step - stop and wait for the lead to slacken or change direction - mark and reward as often as it takes for walking in a nice, non-pulling, position While you are re-training nice, loose lead walking, you don't want to give him opportunities to pull you along. If that means walking up and down your street while you change direction times then that's how it may be for a while. It will just take time and patience and persistence from you. I let my dog sniff but he is only allowed to get to what he can reach without making the lead go tight. Otherwise I do not budge. It does take a lot of vigilance, but it works in the end. Repetitive jumping on and off furniture actually poses more risks for dogs than most pet owners expect. Providing dogs with a safer alternative to jumping on and off furniture can play a big role in reducing the amount of strain they put on their muscles and joints on a daily basis. Higher Risk of Injury Limb injuries, such as strains, sprains, and muscle tears, are some of the most common injuries in dogs. These injuries are often the result of a dog accidentally overstretching their muscles or landing incorrectly while jumping or running. In fact, jumping up and down a distance higher than their own backs can cause many dogs to push their bodies beyond safe limits. Standing roughly 15" tall at the shoulder, this Basset Hound is too short to safely make it onto the bed. If your dog enjoys spending time on the couch or bed, eliminating the need for jumping can help reduce their chances of getting hurt. Different surfaces are also an important factor. When jumping on and off couches and beds, dogs are required to quickly adjust from hard to soft or soft to hard surfaces. In many cases, many of these surfaces, such as tile or laminate flooring, can be slippery for dogs too. As a result, dogs have to put in extra effort to rapidly adapt to the new surface and remain standing upon landing. This can put a pup at a higher risk of experiencing a strain, sprain, or a twist. Jumping off Furniture Can Trigger or Exacerbate Existing Joint and Back Conditions Many dog breeds are prone to developing joint, back, or other musculoskeletal issues. IVDD is a serious spinal condition where the outer layers of a dog's intervertebral discs prematurely harden. Normally, these discs function as shock absorbers for the spine. However, as the outer layers lose their elasticity due to IVDD, it becomes easier for a disc to bulge or burst. A ruptured or bulging disc can triggered by the impact from a jump and quickly begin compressing a dog's spinal cord. This can lead to to unsteadiness, severe pain, weakened legs, and even paralysis. The strength required to jump up onto furniture and the impact experienced when landing can not only exacerbate any of the conditions listed above, but it can aggravate a variety of other musculoskeletal problems a dog may be facing too. Giving your dog an impact-free way of accessing their favorite hangout spots can allow them to enjoy a safer and more comfortable home environment. Senior Dogs As many dogs age and enter their senior years, they tend to slow down and become less mobile. You may notice that they begin experiencing a bit of difficulty getting up or laying down, navigating stairs, or jumping. Canine arthritis is common in older dogs as well. As a result, jumping on and off furniture can cause senior dogs to stretch their limbs and joints past a comfortable range of motion. This can not only increase their chance of injury, but jumping can also quickly aggravate any preexisting joint, back, or leg conditions. The Animal Medical Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina reports that jumping such a distance could be the equivalent of a human jumping off a wall triple their height. Large Breeds Even though many larger dogs may be just as tall or even taller than a couch or bed, jumping on and off furniture still has its risks. Compared to smaller breeds, larger dogs weigh quite a bit more. Introducing your dog to an indoor ramp can give them the freedom to safely and easily enjoy their favorite hangout spots whenever they want. Dogs of all ages and sizes can enjoy the benefits of using dog ramps. Many people have an opinion on whether or not jumping is bad for dogs' joints. Can it stress the joints? Should all breeds jump and play actively? Let's take a look in more detail. All this noise on how to help keep our dogs feeling healthy and happy can make it difficult to tell fact from fiction, making things all a little bit confusing. What happens when a dog jumps up? When your pooch prepares to take off, they shift their weight back into the large muscles of the back legs and onto the back-leg joints. The activated back end pushes your dog up and forward like a coiled spring which has been released. This action requires a full range of motion in the back leg joints including the stifle and the hip and tarsal hock , and of course, activation in all the supporting muscles. When they land, their front legs are mobilised, flexing and extending to brake and steady the dog. Understand why dogs jump up What happens when a dog jumps down? When getting down off a couch or bed, your dog uses their body weight for downward momentum. Their front legs and shoulders abruptly take much more weight and strain than if walking or running on flat ground, especially if your pooch is carrying an extra pound or two. How different surfaces affect your dog? This is a BIG factor. Jumping from hard to soft — or soft to slippery — adds another layer of complexity. Your dog has to counter slippery surfaces with their own muscles, or may risk toppling over on impact. Just imagine jumping from a high wall onto a soft mattress and trying to stay on your feet when you land. Clutter, slippery floors, and rugs can also cause problems. Twisting or straining on landing to avoid hazards will mean more work for the muscles and joints. If your dog is a toy or miniature, they may have to jump twice or three times their height to join you for a snuggle. Some breeds and mixes are more prone to accidents and incidents, and obesity plays a part too. Unfortunately, if your dog is carrying a bit too much weight, their joints take the stress, which can make a risky action even more problematic. Jumping and dog joints: fact or fiction? Most healthy adult dogs manage carpeted stairs well. Stairs or steps do require greater range of motion in the front and back leg joints compared to walking on flat ground. Stairs can be a challenge for the smallest breeds and dogs who are prone to joint stiffness. Ramps, or being carried or supported with a sling is a good idea in these cases — always talk to your vet for advice. A high 4x4, a slippery boot blanket and a small or older dog is a very different scenario to a low estate car with a rubber mat in the boot. The best solution is to use a portable pet ramp. Although, of course it depends. Growing joints are particularly vulnerable — and the behaviour you allow in puppyhood sets the model for adult life. I asked how they potty trained the puppy and its possible there was some confusion between the puppy and people. I handed my camera to the guardians so I could share potty training tips to use when you have a mature puppy peeing in the house. Many puppies and adult dogs need to brush up with some remedial potty training tips. Ways to Potty Train a Labradoodle Puppy There are two main schools of thought when it comes to potty training a puppy: Puppy pads But there is also a happy medium, where you combine these when necessary. Which Method is Best? In reality, neither method is better than the other. But, one may be better for you and your lifestyle. When done correctly, both ways, and the happy medium, can create a well trained Labradoodle. But, for others, cleaning up puppy pads inside is no big deal! The end result will be the same — a Labradoodle that goes to the toilet in the right place. Puppy Pad Potty Training Potty training with puppy pads involves covering the floor of the area that your puppy has access to with pads. The floor you need to choose must be easy to clean for this method, like wooden or linoleum. So a kitchen is usually ideal. Then, when your puppy is reliably toileting in this smaller area, you just pop a couple of pads outside the back door. Finally, you will remove them altogether. You must remove the pads gradually for the same reason that you must start off by covering your entire kitchen floor. To reduce the risk of your puppy having an accident on your floor itself! To him, the floor might seem just as suitable as a puppy pad. So, covering the entire floor at first will remove the risk of any accidents on your floor. Removing the pads gradually will help your puppy learn that the pads are the right place, rather than causing any confusion when they suddenly disappear. But the downside is that it takes longer to get your puppy going to the toilet outside. And in the meantime, you have a house that is periodically peed and pooped in. It can also be more confusing for the puppy to transition to doing their business inside, to moving outside. Which can mean the occasional accident. Crate Training Crate training is a great help to many puppy parents, because it helps your puppy learn to pee outside from the very start. A crate also gives your puppy their own cosy and safe space to stay in for short periods of time. The crate must be big enough for the puppy to stand up and turn around in, but not much more. And it should be full of comfy, cosy bedding. When gradually introduced to a crate, with lots of rewards and for very short periods to begin with, a puppy will love their soft bed very much. And because it is where they sleep, they will really not want to pee in there. As long as it is not too big. This means it is a useful place to put your puppy if you want them to wait just a few short more minutes between pees. The rest of the time the pup is out and about in a wipe-clean room with you. If they squat or start sniffing around, take them outside and stay with them to see if they need the bathroom. If they have any accidents, clean them up with a pet safe spray straight away. But hopefully, your schedule and lots of close monitoring will mean that accidents are few and far between. Using the Crate Safely When used properly, a crate can make a great training tool. However, if your crate is too large, your puppy will simply go to the toilet at one end and sleep at the other. The benefit of the crate is that you can easily wash bedding and clean the crate tray if there are any accidents. Labradoodle puppies need lots of mental stimulation, play, engagement, and exercise. But, another great way to do this is simply by picking your puppy up. If they usually pee every 20 minutes, and you want to see if they will last 30 minutes, just pick them up after 20 minutes if they have already spent a lot of time in their crate today. Hold them for 5 or 10 minutes before taking them out for a pee. And remember, you need to introduce the crate gradually at first, to ensure your puppy feels happy and safe inside. So, picking them up will help you a lot in those early days. Combining Crates and Puppy Pads The crate training puppy method requires getting up at 2am for at least a few days, as you will need to continue to offer regular potty breaks through the night. Many puppy parents find this understandably tough. It also means that you can barely remove your attention from the puppy at all during the day for the first few weeks. But, puppy parents are often human parents too. And, you may need to pop out of the house for a few minutes a couple of times a day as a minimum. A great way to deal with these situations is to set up your crate inside a puppy playpen. During the night and when you need to briefly pop out during the day, you leave the crate door open and line the puppy play pen with puppy pads. This means they can relieve themselves if they need to, without risking messing in their bed or on your floor. Schedules for Potty Training a Labradoodle Puppy To give your puppy the best chance of success when crate potty training, you need to give them lots of opportunities to use the bathroom outdoors. These timings are not set in stone, but are a good starting point for each stage. Some owners will find that they need to offer a pee break as often as every 20 minutes. Watch out for the behaviors we talked about above if you think your puppy needs a pee — particularly sniffing in one spot and squatting. Many puppies will start sleeping through the night. Give them lots of opportunities to pee outdoors, including after every meal or big drink from their water bowl. Remove the water at night, but keep it somewhere they can get at it during the day. In those early weeks, they should spend most of their time with you in a room with wipe-clean floors, just in case! Post navigation. However you must teach your puppy all of your expectations, gently and firmly from day one. Decide the rules you want for your puppy, and teach them those rules right from the beginning, such as: not getting on furniture, not jumping up on people. If you allow that in the beginning, it will be very difficult to break the habit. Getting Prepared for A New Puppy! Puppy Chewing The more things you have for your puppy to chew, the less likely they are to chew up your things. The need to chew will go on for at least 18 months, although they may always love having things to chew and toys. You will also need a premium puppy food of your choice. We use an All Life Stages dog food made primarily of chicken and rice. Dogs originally were den animals, they burrowed holes underground, where they were safe from predators and nice and warm. They instinctively do not go to the bathroom in their dens. A crate is a safe haven for your puppy. Never take your puppy out of the crate until they are quiet, just sit patiently, without speaking, until they are quiet for a few seconds, and you will teach them to be quiet in the cage. Every time you take your puppy out of the crate, take them immediately outside to the place you want them to go to the bathroom. Puppies find places to go to the bathroom with their feet. When I take them out to the yard, to grass, rocks or dirt, which ever you prefer , they get used to that feeling on their feet and it becomes part of their potty que or trigger. If you allow your puppy to have accidents on your rugs or hardwood floors even by accident then that can quickly become their potty texture preference. Same goes for potty pads. Using potty pads only teaches your puppy that going potty on absorbent material is Ok. Not a great idea. Try to avoid accidents at all costs. This way, you will teach your dog to go to the bathroom on command. This can be very convenient if you are traveling or leaving the house. Stay away from the puppy until they are done with their business, keep other animals, children and any other distraction away from them. As soon as your puppy is done, immediately give them a dog treat and praise, and praise and praise. Then, stand back and see if there is more forthcoming and repeat the process. When you have to leave make sure to crate your puppy or put them in a x-pen setup, when you get home, even after a short absence, calmly take your puppy outside, talk gently to them, let them go to the bathroom, take them back inside and talk to them calmly, pet them slowly and try to be as calm as you can. If you come back and get them excited, they will try to recreate that excited feeling when you are gone, because that means you will be home soon. Puppies are like any baby, they need lots of attention, a dog that does not get attention, will get anxious and nervous and may chew and chew furniture, rugs, shoes, cords, anything to get rid of the anxiety. Read my post on crate and x-pen setups for potty training puppies! Taking your Puppy to Class Take your puppy to obedience school. An untrained puppy can be a nuisance instead of a pleasure. Another important benefit, perhaps the most important, is puppies will meet many new people and dogs in puppy class, which will greatly help socialize them, and make them more people and dog friendly. When I take them out to the yard, to grass, rocks or dirt, which ever you prefer , they get used to that feeling on their feet. When they get to your home, your puppy will be used to the surface that you want them to use. This teaches them that talking to you actually works. Going Potty Outside Step by Step — Take your puppy outside on leash, take them to their designated spot, put them down, and give the potty command, stand back without touching them, and wait a bit for them to go to the bathroom. When you know your puppy is done going to the bathroom, praise them, give them a treat or a snuggle and then take them immediately back into the house, unless you are going to play with them outside. What your puppy discovers is up to you, because your Labradoodle will learn whatever you teach it. Those lessons begin the moment it arrives in your home. Put yourself in the place of your puppy. Being anxious makes you nervous, and being nervous makes you. But where? And does it matter? What's in it for You - and Your Doodle? As it turns out, most dog owners say it does matter, a lot. The Labradoodle is a family dog, and as such, needs to live with its family, indoors. That means having a dog that has indoor manners and habits. The Labradoodle has to learn when and where it can go potty. Postponing potty training your Labradoodle will make the process much harder, and it will take longer if you wait to begin instructing your puppy on your expectations. Left untouched, they serve as beacons, or direction finders, to remind your dog to go in this location. Even if you clean it up, you might not be able to remove the scent that draws your pup back to the X that marks the spot. The answer to that question depends on you more than it does on your Labradoodle. Puppies are all about sleeping, waking, eating, playing and pottying. The most difficult part of the potty training process is being ever vigilant. You have to watch your Labradoodle constantly for signs that it needs to go potty. Training yourself to supervise your doodle may be the hardest part of all, but if you know the signs to look for and you have a strategic plan, your Doodle will become a housebroken member of the family, and a pleasure to be around or leave at home without worry that your carpet and floors will become soiled. Training a Labradoodle puppy to use a designated spot to relieve itself is a matter of age and bladder control versus time. Expecting a young pup to hold it for five or six hours sets him up for failure and up for disappointment, if not displeasure. Figure that your pup can hold its bladder and bowels one hour for each month of age, and then add one more hour. A three-month old puppy, for example, should be able to wait to do its business for one to three hours, plus one, or four hours. Your puppy may be able to go longer or need to potty sooner. Rather than wait until the last minute, take your dog out at the three-hour mark. They also have to go outside when they become excited. All training can be divided into one of two categories, regardless of the method used: ignoring or praising. If your Labradoodle has an accident in the house, scoop up the mess and take it outside to the spot you want her to use. After all, no one ever made a fuss about it until now. Dogs have an incredible sense of smell, and the spot in the house they used once will lure them again and again to do their business unless you remove all evidence of the act. On the other hand, praise your pup for pottying in the location you designated. You can give small treats as rewards. Offer tons of praise and a treat, and after 30 days, wean your pup off the treats. The praise will mean much more to your dog. So which method is best? The one that works. The crate recreates the den your puppy grew up in, and no dog wants to soil its own house if it can be helped. As a benefit, the crate also provides a safe break from all the action in the rest of the house, and sometimes your puppy will choose to hang out in the crate. Baby gates work the same way a crate works.

But in the early days, we recommend keeping them close to you at night. It will help them feel safe and cared for — leaving their litter is quite a big step, after all. Your puppy may be unsettled and will most likely need at least one bathroom break through the night. It will all be okay in a few weeks time, though. The crate should be a cozy warm den for your puppy. Soft blankets and a cuddly toy should do the trick to help them settle. It is also a good idea to cover over the sides but keep the front uncovered so your pup can still see out. Just before bed, take your pup out for one last potty stop. With that beautiful voice of yours, gently reassure them and rest your hand in the crate so they know you are there. When your puppy wakes up in the night they definitely will at some point , listen to see if they are settling back down. Expect to be out at or am to take them straight to the loo. They will be bursting! That just about covers the first steps of Labradoodle sleep training. Very tired. But early mornings, late nights and disturbed sleep are all part of owning a puppy. As they mature emotionally and settle into their new home they will be happy in other parts of the house, and even outside of their crate. Having them in your room does not cause separation anxiety later on. Stick to a routine! Consistency is everything. It will backfire on you. That can mean two things — they will always be happy to see you and that being alone can be challenging for them. This will help them feel at ease without you and also help them love their crate a little bit more too. While they are eating, go and do something close by. No need to go completely out of sight, but try not to focus on your puppy either. Labradoodles love to eat, so use this time wisely to distract them away from you. Just a few seconds is good enough in the early stages. Repeat: Practice makes perfect! Every 30 minutes, after eating, sleeping or playing. Socialization Exercises to do This Week Early socialization is important for all puppies. It gives them confidence and teaches them to view the world in an optimistic way. Here are some puppy socialization exercises to do with your Labradoodle. Let your Labradoodle Puppy Explore the Yard The yard is a great way to introduce your puppy to the great outdoors. They will also get used to walking on different types of surfaces such as your tiled, wet lawn or open flower beds. To get them there, here is a quick exercise you can run through: Exploring different surfaces exercise Have plenty of treats ready. Only use safe surfaces, nothing too slippery. Gather surfaces such as: A piece of carpet A large tray with a thin layer of water A large piece of tin foil or cardboard, something that makes a noise. Put the surfaces out on the floor and let your puppy investigate. Let them take their time and go at their own pace. In our experience Labradoodles are quite food motivated, and you can probably use a low or medium value treat for this. Teach your puppy their name One of the first things your puppy will learn from you is their name. Fortunately, teaching a Labradoodle puppy their name is rather simple. Pretty easy, right? Practice this a few times everyday until they start flipping their head at you every time you call their name. Make sure everyone in the family uses the same name too! Teach your puppy to sit Labradoodle training is often started by teaching them how to sit. We call this a marker word. Keep using this word when they do the right thing, and then follow with a tasty treat. Bits of smelly sausage or cheese will definitely do the trick. If this happens, try to keep it simple at first and just use their own kibble if they are motivated to work for it. Save the big guns in treat terms for when you really need it! How to do it Always begin training at home. The outside world is far too exciting at the moment, and your puppy will probably not focus on you. Stand in front of your pup with a treat in your hand and place the treat on their nose, then bring it up to your waist. Recall — How to teach your Labradoodle puppy to come back when called Your puppy should have a good grasp of their name by now, which should make recall training pretty straightforward. Pun intended. How to do it You will need plenty of those high value treats and your best cheery voice. Call your puppy only once! This is super important as you want them to learn that their name only has to be called once for them to react to it. How to do it Get your puppy excited by showing them their favorite toy and making it come to life by waving it around. Once they are interested in the toy, throw it a short distance away from you. With that lovely singing voice of yours, encourage them to bring it back to you. When they do, swap the toy in their mouth for another identical toy. Repeat about 5 times and practice everyday. Prevention of Resource Guarding This part of Labradoodle training is important — it will prevent resource guarding by teaching your puppy how to give up items willingly. Resource guarding is this thing that happens when dogs are unwilling to give up items back, or when they get protective over something from humans or other dogs. From the training tips above, preventing resource guarding always comes down to a good swapping. Resource guarding starts when we force our dogs as puppies to give up items or snatch things out of their mouths. To avoid that, resist your temptation to reach deep inside their mouths to get whatever it is they have. Ultimately, we want our puppies to be willing to give things up when we need them to. What we really mean is care, handling, health and grooming. Start by just showing them the brush and running it over them with the apartment side so they get used to the sensation minus the bristles. Hand Touch and Handling If you handle your puppy too roughly or grab at them, not only are they going to have a bit of a fright, but it could make them feel scared about being touched in the future. Use plenty of treats, and remember to stop if they walk away. Touch should be a pleasant thing not forced. Week 2 — Training your Labradoodle puppy Week 2 already! The puppies will also be properly socialized to many different sounds, people, places, etc. They will be introduced to all of the commands in the advanced training program however 13 weeks old is still very young and you should not expect a dog at this age to be very reliable in obeying commands; comprehension and proficiency can vary greatly. He has a wonderful temperament. He is very engaged with the family but at the same time very laid back and chill He ended up a bit bigger than we expected 55 lbs but we all agree he has is the perfect size. The only problems we have is that he is so engaging with people that it takes us forever when we take him with us because people stop us constantly to pet him and interact with him. I know that you kept a male and female from Jethro's litter. She was wondering if I knew which dogs were his siblings. I think Moose is his brother but I am not sure. Phineas has been doing amazingly well and he loves everyone and everything he meets. Your description of him as a puppy was completely spot on. He is never scared, and always confident in new situations. I chose to have him neutered at a different vet practice than we usually use so that he would not have any memory of bad experiences at our vet. As a result, he loves going to the vet and has no bad associations. His service dog training is going great as well! He was so well crate trained from night one, and he's doing great on his house training. Pavlov aka Lavender girl was so calm on the ride home Friday night, she slept nearly the entire way I say nearly, mostly because the customs officials at the border wanted to pet her! It was past her bedtime when we got home, but she settled in to her crate with a single yip and proceeded to promptly fall asleep. I was a bit concerned about how she would adjust to living in a condo downtown, in the Capitol, after her idyllic upbringing in your home. She didn't bat an eye at the concrete, and when we go for our mini walks, she sits whenever a person is approaching and waits for them to come say hello! Indeed, Lorne and I have become the most popular people in our our building as everyone who sees Pavlov has constructed elaborate excuses to come visit with her.We haved passed along your name to a number of inquiring individuals already! By the end of our last journey outside before bedtime on Saturday night, she got off the elevator and upon hearing: "go home", she made her way, unassisted, to the front door of our condo I won't tell you how long it took me to master the same trick.Indeed, her first weekend with us was far from ideal as it coincided with the Capital race weekend I understand that it is the largest race in North America, and coincidentally, the course ran along our side of the condo building , Pavlov seemed nonplussed by the noise from the masses of people with bullhorns, cheering, clapping, etc. .She is here with us today at Lorne's office aka my private practice and already has adoring fans, she was referred to by a patient as "the Mascot". My daughter is allergic to dogs so the only dog I considered was a Labradoodle. There are many different ones so you have to be careful. He has had a few play dates and continues his school weekly. Long fun walks and his antler to chew on and being right with you and he's happy. You got him off to a fantastic start. .It will be so interesting to see what color he becomes. .Maui was given great reviews by our vet yesterday. She's been having lots o puppy fun.Her disposition is just what I wanted.Coordination and risk taking are fun to watch develop, very gentle mouth but lots o puppy chewing, pretty smart.Maui is so sweet! She's about knee high with a soft beautiful brown coat. I'll try to post some pics of her. Maui loves to play with other doodles more than anything. I'm almost ready for another puppy.She is now 17lbs and has most of her adult teeth. Sadie is very smart and eager to please. She has graduated puppy class at PetSmart and we plan to continue with her training. She loves Moxie and the two of them spend a lot of time playing together. I will keep you updated on facebook. Murphy has really taken to the country life. He likes swimming, chasing squirrels, visiting the neighbours, boat rides and bonfire nights. Now that it is winter, we go snow shoeing every day for an hour or two and he runs around off leash. To get him used to other dogs we joined a training group this month and he we are doing great. I should mention that we had him fixed in October. So, we are very pleased with Murphy. We often have family and friends with us on weekends and holidays and everyone loves him.
