S homes with cute and healthy French Bulldog puppies of love for years. As you browse through our website, you will be able to find and even buy your own Frenchie of choice. A Frenchie loves almost everyone he meets and will seek out anyone who is willing to provide a lap. Frenchies are known for their quiet attentiveness. They follow their people around from room to room without making a nuisance of themselves. This is a highly alert breed who barks judiciously. If a Frenchie barks, you should check it out. Frenchies can be stubborn about any kind of training. Motivate them with gentle, positive techniques. When you find the right reward, they can learn quickly, although you will find that they like to put their own spin on tricks or commands, especially when they have an audience. Frenchie play tends to be on the destructive side. Avoid giving them toys on which they could choke, such as rawhides, pig ears, and dental chews. A word of advice: any dog, no matter how nice, can develop obnoxious levels of barking, digging, and other undesirable behaviors if he is bored, untrained or unsupervised. And any dog can be a trial to live with during adolescence. Start training your puppy the day you bring him home. Even at eight weeks old, he is capable of soaking up everything you can teach him. If possible, get him into puppy kindergarten class by the time he is 10 to 12 weeks old, and socialize, socialize, socialize. However, be aware that many puppy training classes require certain vaccines like kennel cough to be up to date, and many veterinarians recommend limited exposure to other dogs and public places until puppy vaccines including rabies, distemper and parvovirus have been completed. In lieu of formal training, you can begin training your puppy at home and socializing him among family and friends until puppy vaccines are completed. Recommended daily amount: 1 to 1. NOTE: How much your adult dog eats depends on his size, age, build, metabolism, and activity level. Dogs are individuals, just like people, and they don't all need the same amount of food. French Bulldogs do not need a lot of exercise, but they do need daily walks to keep them at a healthy weight. Available French Bulldog Puppies For Sale For the past years we have made sure all the puppies we sale are being vaccinated, registered, potty trained and are also good with children and other pets at home.
Family raised with love and laughter for a happily ever after. We are not a kennel. Aside from being intelligent, smart, and loyal, this coat quality is often why they are so highly sought after. Many families will find success with this breed, where other breeds have failed. Puppy Selection I am proud to be a breeder that allows families to choose their own puppy. After raising puppies for more than 13 years, I have never felt the need to allocate puppies to families. On occasion, a family will ask me to pick their puppy for them and I always provide guidance as to personality differences between puppies within a litter. If I feel that a chosen puppy will not be a good fit for a family, I will tell them. We came across our first labradoodle over fifteen yrs ago and fell in love with the labradoodle dog breed. Shortly there after we emerged as a guardian home of a breeding labradoodle puppy for Puppy Love Labradoodles and embraced our very own labradoodle over 12 years ago. All our puppies grow up with us in our home or in Guardian families which we have meticulously picked. We think our labradoodle family members do best when they are among us and regarded like family members. We travel with our dogs regardless of whether it is just to the grocery. Each one of our baby labradoodles are whelped in our bedroom and reside there with their mother for the initial 2 weeks. This is where our mother dogs really feel safest and where we can maintain a close eye on the kid labradoodles. Just after they are 2 weeks old we relocate them to the family room where they are introduced to all that takes place in family life. The labradoodle puppies have the chance to see, hear and smell every thing that goes in our home. When they are all set to see their new adopted families they have already been for plentiful car rides and have had tons of hours of playtime and cuddles. Thus, it will do good for both you and your pet. First, however, you must pick your future pet to adopt from a good rescue. Rescue should have active and preventative programs to reduce animal killing. The Rescue or Shelter must have an aggressive public education about overpopulation. Further, they should exert efforts to apply differential licensing. Thus, a good rescue should comply by neutering all animals before going to their new homes. All these should always direct towards the well-being of the animals. A clean and comfortable place means the animals are also well-cared. Further, it echoes a skilled, compassionate, and good hygiene and healthcare program. How do I pick a good rescue Golden Retriever? Thus, you may want to do the following in choosing a good Golden Retriever. Observe the dog Most shelters have an observation room for you to do this. If it has none, just do your best to find some quiet place. As soon as the dog gets comfortable, you may start observing. The Golden Retriever should be friendly. It should come at you with no hesitation, sniff you, or even jump for attention. If you see it exhibits exciting behavior, like tail wagging, it means it wants you to pet him. Thus, you need to give it different tones and noise, especially with your voice. Touch the dog with caution Shelter or rescue dogs are usually under stress. Thus, you always need to be cautious when touching it. You may also see how it reacts when you touch it. A Golden Retriever likes getting touched or petted. Thus, if you cautiously touch it and begs for more, it can be a good sign for you. Other things you can note would be tail-wagging and endless sniffing and licking. Play with the dog Since Golden Retrievers are playful by nature, you should also play with the dog. Moreover, you need to take note of how well it interacts as it plays. Golden Retrievers are born to play. Thus, it should get excited upon seeing a ball or any other toys. At other times, excitement means circling and moving enthusiastically. Walk with the dog Golden Retrievers like to walk, so you may want to test that out as well. Observe how it reacts when on a leash or when it sees other dogs, people, or anything on the road. A good Golden Retriever does well with walking. So anything it sees around, like cars, bikes, or even other people and animals, would draw its attention. Let the dog interact with other dogs or animals. It may or may not be possible, but you may ask to observe how the dog interacts with other animals. It will also be necessary if you have other pets at home. Golden Retrievers play and interact well with other pets. Thus, if you have a pet at home, it would be great to take it to the shelter and allow it to play with the dog. Summary If you live in New York, you will have numerous alternatives to explore, owing to a large number of Golden Retriever shelters in the area. As a result, if you contemplate adoption, you will not have a difficult time finding your pet. As always, if you want to adopt a pet, you will need to put in a lot of time and work. Other States. Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for New York Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. The peak of Atlantic hurricane season is here which is why it's important to take some time to reflect on disaster preparedness. As unlikely as it may seem, a disaster can strike at any moment. Whether it's a fire, tornado, hurricane, flood, or blizzard, it's critical to be prepared and have a plan in place. Unfortunately, pets are sometimes unintentionally left out of their owners' disaster preparedness plans which makes it difficult to know what to do with them during an emergency. Luckily, you can plan ahead for your pets using these tips: Listen to your veterinarian Make sure your pet wears a collar with up to date information on it, get them microchipped, and have them vaccinated. These recommendations will come in handy during a disaster and help you avoid any potential pitfalls, such as being unable to get into a shelter with an unvaccinated pet or losing them during an evacuation. If possible, take your pet's medical records with you and attach their rabies tag to their collar. Find out which shelters allow pets Do some research into where you can safely evacuate with your pet during a state of emergency before a disaster occurs. Your local police department can typically give you this information. If not, they'll likely be able to point you in the direction of someone who can. Though unfortunate, it is not true that hotels must accept pets during evacuations, so please keep that in mind while planning ahead. Prepare a pet disaster kit In a suitcase or other easily movable storage container, pack food and water bowls, a manual can opener, two weeks' worth of canned food and bottled water per pet, plastic poop bags for dogs , litter and a small litter box for cats , and two weeks' worth of any medications your pet may need. You should also pack cleaning items, sturdy leashes and harnesses, toys, and a copy of your pet's medical records. For small animals and cats, have a carrier ready. Use this checklist to prepare. Create handouts Create an identification handout and a boarding instruction handout. Have both ready to go at a moment's notice. They should contain important information, such as your pet's name, age, sex, markings, microchip number, allergies, and vaccination status. If you get separated from your pet, make sure you're safe before you begin your search. If you're in a shelter that houses pets, inform a caretaker and provide them with the identification handout. Once you've been given the OK to leave the shelter and return home, contact animal control and call the microchip company to make sure all information about you and your pet is current. Stay safe out there! Some dogs become comfort or therapy dogs, while others are champion security systems. Dudley's adopters, however, found he is quit the poet!! To make a very long story short, she went on to become the saving grace of my life and a certified therapy dog who was with me for 13 years. After she crossed over that rainbow bridge, I did a lot of research with adoption agencies and came across SGRR. After filling out the application and being interviewed I was offered a dog by the name of Daisy, a beautiful red Golden Retriever. I thought I would never feel about another dog the way I felt about my Julie but it was not long before I fell in love with that sweet, sweet girl who was also with me for 13 years. Everyone loved Daisy, she would go up to people and do that lean into thing, a Golden thing, and they would just laugh and pet her. That is when I realized what an amazing organization, so full of caring and wonderful people who often go above and beyond for these wonderful animals. When my Daisy girl crossed over after a few months went by I thought it time to bring another friend home. Golden Retrievers had become hard to find so I decided to take a mixed breed home which was a big deal for me being the Golden Retriever lover that I am. I never had a male or a mixed breed before so I did not know what to expect. Finnie settled right in and is a wonderful companion and friend to furry sibling Gracie. Finnie took some training but I knew in time he would be a great dog and he is a great dog. He is very different than the other dogs in my life but he is so much fun to have with us. He loves people and gets very excited with everyone and will jump up in the air like an acrobat we are working on that , but a great dog. I would encourage everyone to think about a mixed breed. With time, love and patience you get a great dog and companion. We are excited and proud to share it with all of you. Click the button below and enjoy! The Hartsdale Pet Cemetery is rich in animal tales and history, which is why I love spending a few hours there to see what stories of Old New York are waiting to be unearthed, so to speak. Each pet monument is a treasure in its own way, but there are always a few that catch my fancy on every visit. Unfortunately, the foundation weakened over the years, putting the stone at risk of tipping over. For safety reasons, the cemetery cut the Grumpy monument into two pieces. Photo by P. Gavan According to the monument, Grumpy was born on August 4, , and died on September 20, .We also know that his pet parents were Emma and Henry Bizallion, and that they loved him very much. He waits for us. Why was this bulldog named Grump so important to them — even though he was presumably a grump? Henry H. Seaver, entered the world on May 17, , in a small town in Rutland County, Vermont. His father, a Canadian, excelled as a wood cutter when this skill was in great demand during the construction of the railroads, and then later worked as a cheese maker in Middletown Springs, Vermont. At some point between their marriage and , the Bizallions moved to New York City, where Henry worked in the banking industry. From to , Henry Bizallion moved quickly up the banking corporate ladder. Five years later, they were living closer to the bank at the new Hotel Lucerne , an upscale residential hotel at West 79th Street constructed in .By , the year that Riverside Bank merged with the Hamilton Bank and the Northern Bank of New York, Henry was a full-fledged cashier an officer position as well as a director of the bank. Just prior to the merger, Henry resigned from the Riverside Bank. They rented the store and basement occupying the Eighth Avenue front of William R. By this time, the Bizallions were living in one of the four-story brick apartments at East th Street in East Harlem. Although they had been married for 17 years, they had no children. It was here in the suburbs that they adopted a bulldog puppy named Grumpy. Apparently, New York Board of Health Commissioner Sigismund Schulz Goldwater was trying to terrify the public regarding the menace of the dog, and wanted to make New York a dogless city. He must go where he belongs to his proper place — to the country. Assuredly I favor the exile of all dogs from Manhattan Island. I hope to see New York City a dogless town. No true lover of dogs will bring a dog into the wretched and unhappy surroundings of city life. Goldwater wanted to ban all dogs from New York City in .Obviously, this crazy proposal to ban all dogs from the city went down with the S. Goldwater ship, so to speak. Supposedly, monies collected from these fees would be used to help farmers purchase new sheep to replace those killed by dogs. In fact, anyone could kill, without recourse of law, any such dog committing these acts. Many prominent people, including William O. Stillman , President of the American Humane Association, were openly opposed to the bill. Even some sheep farmers thought it was shear madness. As opponents noted, the bill offended nearly , dog owners in New York State in order to please a few hundred sheep owners who were hurt, not so much by roaming dogs, but by cheap Western grazing lands and foreign competition. If a city dog such as Grumpy got loose in the country, he could be shot, simple as that. Whitman in May , asking him not to sign the bill into law. The title of their petition was S. The association also proposed a new bill that would make dogs the personal property of their owners so they would have the same status and protection as horses and cattle , and that would hold dog owners responsible through civil court action for damage done by their animals instead of killing the dog. The final law included a provision requiring that all law-breaking dogs be held 10 days before being killed; also, toy dogs under 10 pounds were excluded from the killing requirements. Some small-town assessors and constables also made out well with their share of the fees. Grumpy did not have to wait long for Emma to join him in the afterlife. She passed away only nine years after his death on June 2, , at the age of .Lotta Van Buren Bizallion Henry, however, hung on much longer. Sometime around , he married Lotta Van Buren, a renowned ancient instrument restorer, collector, and musician, and the grand-niece of President Martin Van Buren. She had taught piano in New York for many years — perhaps she taught Henry — before retiring in .Lotta V. Bizallion died in May .Henry joined his two wives and bulldog Grumpy on September 4, , when he died in Santa Barbara, California, at the age of .Although a monument awaits Henry Bizallion in the family plot in Vermont, he was buried at the Goleta Cemetery in California. What are you looking at? Photograph: bridgetdavey. Appearance: Just adorable. Intelligence: Smarter than happy dogs. Of course we can. Oh, you mean bad dogs. I mean shy dogs. Misunderstood dogs. And these dogs are actually intelligent, you say? Especially when compared to their more happy-go-lucky counterparts. Smart in what way? What kind of situation? To get to it, the dog had to turn around and circumvent the fence. The happier dogs — the dogs with more socially dominant tendencies — tended to run straight at the toy and smash into the fence. And the grumpier dogs? They figured out the puzzle a bit quicker. So, to make our silly dogs cleverer, we should make them grumpy? God, no! Are you saying the same is true for humans? Sure, why not? I mean, who is smarter? The happy person who dives off a cliff into the sea, or the grump who checks the sea for rocks first? The grump. Again, the grump. And who is smarter: the idiot who believes mainstream media reporting about the transmissibility of Covid, or the grump who does their own research online and attends maskless rallies? Sure, fine, this is just a study about dogs.
Those who are familiar with them will know them to be intelligent, powerful dogs, similar in appearance to the Dutch Shepherd and German Shepherd , although they are not related. These were originally seen as one breed until late in the 19th century when interbreeding between them was banned and the four separate breeds were established. The Malinois takes its name from the Maline region of Belgium, where shepherds preferred their coat type. They are medium-sized to large dogs, weighing between 40 and 80 pounds, with males being heavier than females. In height, they measure between 22 and 26 inches, again with females being smaller. As they are rarely used as herding dogs these days, their skills are often put to good use as guard dogs, K-9 unit police dogs, security service dogs, sniffer dogs for explosives, drugs, or gas detection , therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, and a whole range of other amazing roles. The Mal lives to please its owner. You are the center of his world. The worst punishment you could inflict upon him is to exclude him from your daily life and put him in a yard or kennel. This is a dog that needs to be kept busy. He also needs a firm hand. Any aggression will vary with each dog, but most will naturally be protective and territorial of their home and family. Obedience training is your ticket out of this scenario, and it is especially important if you have young children at home. The Belgian Malinois has a short, straight coat , with a thick undercoat that sheds twice a year. Finally, they have a lifespan of between 10 and 14 years, which is about right for their size. As always, the answer to this is, yes, for the right family! These dogs love to be active, so they would suit a sporty family who loves the outdoor life. They are very intelligent and obedient dogs, so training is your best friend here. This dog really wants to please you, which goes in your favor. You should rarely, if ever, leave them home alone for more than four hours as they quickly become bored and will suffer from separation anxiety. Some people may say so. Is the Belgian Malinois any more or less aggressive than other breeds? Actually, no. First, many of these lists are published on clickbait-funded websites without a shred of credibility or scientific knowledge. Second, there are problems with the statistics used in some of these lists. For example, would you believe that the Labrador appears on this list, too? Do we know whether the dog was in pain, threatened, sick, or anxious? Many of these incidents involve children. Were they being supervised? Had they upset or hurt the dog in some way, even if accidentally? Would you say that the Labrador is a naturally aggressive dog? There are just too many variables at play to arbitrarily label many dogs as aggressive or dangerous. The Mal is protective, just like many other dog breeds. It can display aggressive behavior depending on the circumstances. It is known to be mouthy, an instinct left over from its herding days. But, with proper socialization and training, this can be mostly resolved. The Labrador Retriever Now, we come to the other parent breed, the trusty Lab. They were originally bred as working dogs, retrieving ducks and fish from the water for hunters and fishermen. These early examples were taken to the United Kingdom where they were developed as gundogs for shooting estates. This could be due to their playfulness as much as anything else. Labs weigh somewhere between 55 and 80 pounds, with females at the lower end of the scale. They measure between .When you take a peek at the American Kennel Club AKC listing for the Labrador Retriever , you can see why dog lovers have taken this particular pooch to heart. They are classed as lovey-dovey in terms of affection towards family. They have the highest rating when it comes to being good with kids and other dogs. They are enthusiastically playful, and they consider everyone their best friend. And, to finish off, they are highly trainable and very adaptable. Who could want more from their furry friend? They have infectious energy and will happily run, swim, or play for hours. This is as important for their mental wellbeing as it is for their physical fitness, so be sure to take them for long walks in interesting places. Visit the dog park to let them make new friends. The Labrador Retriever has a short, double coat that requires regular brushing unless you want your house covered in loose hair. The coat comes in three colors: black, yellow, and chocolate, with or without white markings. Obesity can be a serious issue with Labs, especially in old age, as the dog is less inclined to exercise and becomes less active. Officially, the Labrador has a lifespan of between 10 and 12 years, but with the right care, many beat this by several years. So, what does all this mean for the main focus of our study, the Belgian Malinois Lab mix? The Belgian Malinois Lab Mix Most new designer dogs have several quirky names, usually a combination of the two breeds that created it. This has resulted in such wonders as the Goldendoodle , the Belusky, the Pomsky , the Frug, the Corgle — you get the picture! Perhaps you could think of one? Something along the lines of Labinois, or Belgidor? Anyway… on to more important things! What is the Belgian Malinois Lab mix like? What we can say is that purebred dogs are or were often produced for a specific reason, such as hunting or herding. When you cross two breeds, these instincts are usually reduced. This is helpful in many cases, especially in highly driven working dogs, such as the Border Collie or the Mal. A good, reliable breeder can produce beautiful-looking, healthy mixed-breed puppies that have the best qualities of the parents without being too much of a challenge for dog owners. The Belgian Malinois Lab mix is likely to fall into this category — if you can find a reputable breeder who is selling them! Each breed has something to contribute in terms of size, shape, color, and personality. In general, the Belgian Malinois Lab mix will be a happy, playful dog, displaying puppy-like behavior well into her 5th year. Obedience training using positive reinforcement is essential, and must begin as early as possible. She will also enjoy agility classes and anything to keep her active. Without question, she will be loyal and devoted to you, and will be a protective watchdog and a wonderful family pet. Male dogs will be at the larger end of the scale. Not only will your dog be big, but it will also be strong. There are two implications here: the bigger the dog, the more it needs to eat. And, the stronger it is, the harder it will be for you to handle. This means that you will be spending more on dog food than if you owned, say, a Spaniel or a Shih Tzu. Your Belgian Malinois Lab mix will need all that food to stay healthy and feed those energy levels. Do some research and find the most nutritious dog food at a reasonable price. The other issue is controlling your dog. This is yet another reason why obedience training is so vital to the success of your relationship. A firm command should be enough to snap their attention back to you and stop unwanted behavior. Their pups will most likely be sickly and weak. In addition, these untrustworthy sources may not use purebred dogs in the first place. Your pup could inherit undesirable traits that make them unpredictable and even dangerous. A Belgian Malinois Lab mix puppy from a good breeder will be adorable, clean, healthy, and bright-eyed. By the time it reaches your home, it will be between 8 and 12 weeks old. It will be a little furry bundle of fun, joy, and playful mischief. And, you need to be prepared for it. There are many potential hazards in the home: cleaning materials containing toxic chemicals, electrical cables, choking hazards, staircases, pools, and ponds — all of these and more need to be assessed and made safe. Your pup will need a lot of care and attention in the first few months , especially as they go through teething. They will probably need to be close by you all the time. You might find that they cry at night , so you may need to move their bed into your bedroom. Be warned; there is a chance that you might have to pay a lot more as some breeders will use the fact that they are pretty rare as a reason to inflate their price. Of course, you could adopt from a shelter or a rescue facility, but you will have to wait until one of these dogs turns up. Some will ensure that the pup has its shots and is dewormed, while others will even have them spayed or neutered. The main thing to remember is that the price of your dog is just the beginning. Budget wisely, and keep in mind that you now have the responsibility to care for your furry pal for the next decade or so. Just like all other dogs, this mixed breed will have a few health problems that might surface at times. To see which ones are more likely, we need to look at the parent breeds. The Labrador Retriever mirrors this, but it also includes a potentially life-threatening condition called bloat as well as something known as exercise-induced collapse. The ones that should cause alarm bells to ring are hip dysplasia and eye problems because they are inherited. If both parents have these, then it is likely that their pups will suffer from them, too. This is why it is essential to buy your pup from a reputable breeder who will run health screening tests for these conditions. And, while there may be question marks about the subject of designer dogs, it has to be said that, on balance, they can be healthier than many purebred dogs. There is really just one rule when it comes to buying a designer dog: use a reputable breeder. If we want dogs to become healthier, then we need to stop encouraging unethical breeders by keeping them in business. So, have you decided that the Belgian Malinois Lab mix is the dog for you? The Mal is definitely a challenging dog that is not recommended for inexperienced dog owners. It has a reputation for biting and for being extremely driven. Not many people can handle its independent streak coupled with its intensity. This is a dog that lives to work and to please its owner. The Labrador, on the other hand, is a big softy that loves everyone and everything well, nearly everything. It also has a lot of energy and thinks that life is all fun and adventure. It wants to please you just as much as the Mal does, and it is happy to work as long as it can settle down for a snuggle later. The mix of these two is a winning combination as the intensity of the Mal is tempered by the laid-back nature of the Lab. It will be an active and intelligent dog; friendly, but watchful. It will protect you when necessary, but it will be happy to accept strangers and other animals. If you follow the advice here, you can be sure that your journey together will be a long, happy, and rewarding one. Read Next:. Pros and cons of getting a Belgian Malinois mixed with Lab A Labrador Malinois mix dog weighs 40 — 80lbs, and is likely to be capable of remarkable physical and mental endurance. They need a lot of physical and mental activity before they are ready to settle down at the end of the day. Potential owners need to think carefully about whether this dog is a good fit for them. Purpose: Companionship, some competitive and working roles. Weight: Females 40 — 70lbs, males 60 — 80lbs. Temperament: Smart, tough, hardworking. What to expect from a Labrador Malinois mix Labs and Belgian Malinois are both dogs with impeccable working credentials, but in very different roles. Labradors are, of course, retrievers. In the past they helped duck hunters by collecting the birds which had been shot. The Belgian Malinois meanwhile started out as a shepherding breed. More recently, the same intelligence, stamina, and guarding instincts which made them good at shepherding have also made them popular with police and military dog trainers. A Labrador Belgian Malinois mix is sometimes known as a Belgiador. This mix is not as popular or widely available as some of the Labrador crosses more suitable to being a family pet. Such as the world-famous Labradoodle. This is partly because the different historical purpose of Labs vs Malinois mean they have very different temperaments. Labrador Malinois mix appearance Physically, it is easy to tell a Lab and a Malinois apart. But, they also have enough in common that a Malinois Lab mix is fairly unsurprising to look at compared to, say, a Shih Tzu Lab mix! Both breeds are medium to large. So a female Malinois Lab mix is likely to weigh 40 to 70lbs, and a male is likely to weigh 60 to 80lbs. Their exact size, build and proportions can vary from one individual to the next, depending on: The exact size of their parents. Whether their Labrador parent came from working or show lines. And whether they take after their Lab parent or their Malinois parent more. Both breeds have short smooth coats, which protect them from the cold whilst working in winter. But the Malinois can be registered in four times as many colors as the Lab. Including dilute colors, brindle, and sable patterns. Malinois and black Lab mix puppies could surprise you with a range of coat colors, including sables. Dilute and brindle coats will only be expressed in first generation Malinois Lab mix puppies if the Labrador parent was also carrying the gene for one of these traits. But the temperament they will grow up to have is a different matter! Malinois are a herding breed. They have a strong guarding instinct, which is what makes them well suited to protecting a flock of sheep. Part of the guarding instinct is an innate wariness of new and unfamiliar people. Another part is unhesitating bravery in defending the thing they guard. They are also very clever, and they can pick up complex commands quickly. Labradors meanwhile have a strong urge to fetch things and carry items around in their mouths — the retrieving instinct. They are also very clever, and capable of mastering complex tasks. But, they have little guarding instinct. They often bond happily with lots of people, including people they met for the first time 5 seconds ago. Belgian Malinois Labrador mix puppies are likely to be easy to train, and pick up new commands quickly. They will crave having a job to do, alongside a human handler. This may manifest as unwanted behaviors including digging, chewing, scratching or barking. This mix will not be suited to spending most of the day alone at home. Surprises in Malinois Lab mix personality However, not all aspects of their personality are so predictable. Belgian Malinois tend to be disinterested in interacting with people beyond their immediate human family. When faced with persistent unwanted attention, they might bark or snap to send a clear signal to back off. This is very different to most Labradors, who tend to befriend just about anyone, and are tolerant of being petted by strangers. How sociable and people-friendly a litter of Belgian Malinois Labrador mix puppies will grow up to be can vary a lot, even between siblings. So, if being sociable and comfortable receiving attention from people beyond your immediate family is important to you, this mix is not a reliably good choice. Training and exercising your Labrador Malinois mix Next, back to something you can be sure of — your Labrador Belgian Malinois mix will need training and physical activity in spades. Ongoing training is vital to meet their need for mental stimulation. Besides basic obedience training as a puppy, you can challenge their brains by taking part in Advanced obedience training. They enjoy socializing with other humans and dogs and bonding with their entire family. Their high levels of energy and need for exercise also make them highly energetic. Good-natured and hard-working, labs have a reputation for being loyal and honest. In addition to being hunters, assistance dogs, show dogs, search and rescue dogs, and other types of dog work, they are often used as assistance dogs. Although they love to work and are highly trainable, these dogs also enjoy some fun! Exercising must be intense. Playing fetch, jogging, and other activities can be included in this. Aside from competing in dog sports, they also perform well in agility competitions. Their mental fitness is also maintained through training sessions. A Lab is a sweet-natured dog, making it a perfect companion dog or therapy dog. It is possible to train them to assist people with disabilities since they are intelligent and can be trained. The labrador retriever is a very protective breed, especially when it comes to his family and home. Intense exercise is also needed. Jogging, fetching, and other exercises can be included. Several other dog sports, such as agility, they do well in as well. A lab can be a great companion or therapy dog because of its sweet nature. It is possible to train them to assist disabled people because they are intelligent. Besides being great watchdogs, they also make great companions. There is a strong sense of loyalty and protection in labs when it comes to their family and their homes. Appearance Labradors and Malinois can be distinguished physically from one another. But, they both sit somewhere between medium and large, so a mix of Malinois and Labs would appear more unsurprising than, say, a mix with a smaller breed. A female lab weighs around 55 and 70 pounds, while a male lab weighs between 65 and 80 pounds. An average Malinois Lab mix female weighs 40 to 70 pounds, while an average male weighs 60 to 80 pounds. The coats of both breeds are short and smooth, which keeps them warm during winter. Although the Malinois has four times more colors to choose from than the Labrador. The patterns include dilute colors, brindles, and sables. There is a wide color variety available in black Lab mix and Malinois puppies, including sables. It is only when the parent dog was a Labrador that diluted and brindled coats were expressed in the pups of the first generation of a Labrador Malinois-Labrador mix. Due to the rarity of that situation, they usually emerge only in crosses that are of 2nd and higher generations. Temperament The temperament of a mixed-breed dog cannot be predicted in advance since it can inherit personality traits from either parent. There are a variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and personalities in every breed. Generally speaking, a Boxer and Labrador Retriever mix will display puppy-like behaviors well into her 5th year of life. They are likely to be very energetic and prefer being active over sitting on the couch! Herding is the primary function of Malinois dogs. Additionally, guarding sheep is something they do well because of their strong guarding instinct. The inherent wariness of unfamiliar people is part of the guarding instinct. Additionally, they must not hesitate to defend what they protect without flinching. Their intelligence makes them very capable of learning complicated commands very quickly. The retrieving instinct is extremely strong in Lab Retrievers while retrieving is common in other breeds. Their intelligence and ability to master complex tasks make them very desirable. They do not have much of a guarding instinct, however. There is often a happy bond between the two of them, even if they met each other only just a few seconds ago. Puppies born from mixed Belgian Malinois and Labrador parents usually learn commands quickly, and improve their training over time. With someone by their side, they are more likely to enjoy working. In addition, if you do not give them anything to do, they are likely to lose interest very quickly. There are numerous undesirable behaviors that can manifest during this time, for instance, pawing, biting, scratching, barking, etc. If the dog has to spend all of its time at home by itself, you may want to consider a different breed or hybrid. The personality of these individuals is not predictable in all aspects. The Belgian Malinois is generally uninterested in socializing with other people outside of their immediate family. Their snapping or barking signals clearly that they want to be left alone when they are being bothered by a constant stream of unwanted attention. Unlike Labradors in general, which accept strangers petting them, these dogs tend to befriend everyone. It is possible to find vast differences in social skills and people-friendliness between siblings of Belgian Malinois Labrador mixes. At 8 weeks of age, their behavior is not a good indicator of their future temperament. Consequently, if your social skills and comfort with receiving attention are crucial, then this combination is not for you. The hip dysplasia of both breeds of dogs is a common health problem. The socket of the hip becomes malformed in this painful condition. A number of problems can be caused by it, including gait problems and arthritis. Both breeds may suffer from this genetic problem. Due to the strong hereditary component of dysplasia of the hips and elbows, the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals suggests that dogs who do not test positive be kept as breeding stock. A breeding dog should also undergo testing for eye problems, as well as exercise-induced collapse. Performing hip and elbow dysplasia tests, as well as checking for eye problems, should be required before breeding Malinois dogs. When the stomach turns inside out and is sealed, it is considered a medical emergency. The symptoms of this disease can be found here, and affected dogs can only be saved by surgery When buying a Malinois and Labrador mix dog, make sure the breeder uses healthy parents in their breeding so that you avoid a lifetime of heartache and costly veterinary bills. It will make a difference who they take after when it comes to their health risks. You should be aware of symptoms of ear infections if your dog has floppy ears like a Lab. In addition, you will need to keep them from getting bloated if they have a deep chest like a Malinois. A survey conducted among dog owners found that Belgian Malinois and Labrador Retrievers live, on average, 12 to 13 years, and some even live well into their teens. As a comparison, this is a good size for a dog of this size. Fall and spring are also times when both shed a lot. It is definitely a good idea to brush your mixed fur baby at least once a week, but more frequently during seasons of high shedding. The frequency of his dirty and stinky behavior will determine how often your Malinois Lab requires bathing. The frequency of baths may vary from dog to dog, with some dogs requiring a bath once a week to once a month. As Labradors and Malinois have weather-resistant coats, routine bathing should not be necessary for the Labrador Malinois Mix. When you have a Labrador Malinois Mix puppy, keep in mind that the Malinois has a thicker coat and sheds more than the Labrador. Therefore, you will need to brush and groom your puppy more frequently. Training You should expect your Lab Malinois mix to be extremely energetic since you have crossed two highly energetic breeds. Please remember that each of these breeds was designed to work outdoors all day long. It is possible that some Labrador Belgian Malinois mix dogs are more prone to lazing around than others. It is important that the Labrador parent of the puppies should come from breeding lines, especially if the Labrador was a show dog. Generally, these mixes are suitable only for individuals with at least a few hours per day that they can devote to working with their dogs and making sure it has proper training and the right amount of exercise. To keep your mixed Lab Malinois happy and healthy, they will definitely need training and socialization. Keep in mind that you should always supervise your mixed breed dog around young children and other animals. The Malinois, as well as some Labs, have strong prey instincts. The training and socialization of this mix should be done positively. Your Lab Malinois and you will have a great time doing this! You will be able to tire your dog out every day by doing complex training exercises. However, you will still need to exercise your dog regularly. Outdoor activity is likely to be needed by this mix at least twice a day. In the past three decades, the retriever has become the most popular dog breed in America. Due to their adaptability to different situations and friendly and patient nature, they are well suited to families with adults, children, and dogs who are unfamiliar with them. Unlike Labrador Retrievers, a Belgian Malinois is a breed that specializes in working dogs. They are unmatched in terms of their performance, endurance, and fearlessness when serving in the police and military. Most pet owners cannot provide the engagement, training, and exercise that a companion dog needs most people. Barking or nipping may also be issued to children if they lose patience with them. Those who are new to owning a dog, those with many other responsibilities, and families with children may not be appropriate for this mix. It is recommended that they be owned by very active people, with plenty of time to dedicate to their care, and with experience with similar breeds. A Belgian Malinois Lab mix is an incredibly beautiful and fascinating dog, regardless of how you feel about mixed breeds and whether you consider them mutts or ethical. It must be said that, on balance, designer dogs can be healthier than many purebred dogs, even though there may be some question marks about the topic. It is recommended that prospective owners prepare for adequate socialization and training before getting a Labrador Malinois Mix as a family pet. His best home would be in a family with older children, and he would benefit from the patience and training of an owner. Be prepared to spend a lot of time with your dog making sure it fits into the family well and adjusts properly. The more time you spend with it and the more training and socialization you provide your mix, the more likely it will become a great family pet. In order to reduce the chances of obesity-related health problems, he will need plenty of space and access to the outdoors. Prior to bringing a pet into your home and making it part of your family, you should research that breed and determine its needs and challenges. This will ensure your dog is happy, stays healthy, and fits into your family well. You will also like:. Introducing the Labrador Malinois Mix! The Labrador Malinois mix is the offspring of the purebred Labrador and the purebred Malinois. By all accounts, this crossbreed is a fusion of beauty, brawn, and intelligence! But what exactly is a crossbreed, and why is there controversy surrounding it? While there are many who support crossbreeding and argue that there are many pros to the practice, others disagree. Some experts consider designer dogs and mutts to be the same thing. Others argue that while mutts have a lineage of many different breeds, designer dogs are the offspring of only two purebred parent breeds. Health There are also those who state that crossbreeding can be a way to solve the genetic health issues that have plagued purebred dogs for generations as a result of over-breeding. Others claim that these genetic issues can be equally prevalent in crossbred dogs. Origin of the Labrador Malinois Mix Since crossbreeding is still a rather new practice, the exact origin of the Labrador Malinois Mix is unknown. Still, it is worth looking into the histories of the purebred parents. Both the Labrador and the Malinois have fascinating backstories that should help to give us some insight into their offspring, the Labrador Malinois mix. Today, the Labrador is known to make an excellent service dog for his human counterpart, guiding the blind or offering emotional and physical support to those in need. Officially recognized by the AKC in , the Malinois also excels on search and rescue missions and works with the armed forces. In fact, this breed is even used by the Secret Service to guard the White House! Temperament and Behavior of the Labrador Malinois Mix Because the Labrador Malinois Mix is a crossbreed, determining what temperament he could inherit from his purebred parents is going to be left up to chance. However, by researching the behavioral traits of the purebred Labrador and the purebred Malinois, we can gather an idea of what kind of temperament the Labrador Malinois mix could have. His intelligence and eagerness to please have made him easy to train and therefore pleasant and well-behaved. However, keep in mind that Labs can be inclined to chewing. They need lots of patience and attention, especially in their youth, to keep them from getting bored or anxious. Various toys should be utilized to reduce boredom and subsequent household damages during times when Labradors are left alone. They need consistent exercise to keep them mentally and physically happy and will enjoy fun family activities! Malinois Temperament The Malinois is a true working dog who requires jobs and consistent stimulation to avoid boredom. He is extremely intelligent and enjoys a challenge, but much like his Labrador counterpart, if he is left to his own devices and becomes bored then furniture, shoes, and flooring beware! This means the very thing that makes him an excellent police K9 or military dog could make him a difficult family pet. Although there are countless accounts of the Malinois making a wonderful family companion and doing very well with young children, it is best to supervise this breed around youngsters and other household pets. The Malinois is also known to mature slower than many other breeds and can have puppy-like tendencies all the way up until the age of about five. Potential owners of this breed or a crossbreed with a Malinois parent should prepare to exercise patience, as these dogs require consistent training and attention. Training and Socialization Of course, and as with all dog breeds, we recommend proper training and early socialization and to ensure the health and happiness of both dog and human. Always keep training positive and fun, and keep in mind that training and socializing is an excellent bonding opportunity for you and your Labrador Malinois mix! This means their coat, size, and weight will be left up to chance depending on which purebred parent he favors most. Still, by looking at the characteristics of the Labrador and the Malinois we may be able to get an idea of what your Labrador Malinois Cross puppy could look like. Labrador Characteristics The Lab is a medium-sized dog who has three standard coat colors: Black. The combination is a crossbreed, which combines certain aspects of both breeds in one puppy. Talk about adorable—a Lab Malinois mix is just that—all cuteness! However, there are some things you need to know about these really cute cross-bred puppies. In fact, they believe there are many good reasons to do so. However, other people disagree. But there are others who say no, mutts are usually the result of many dog breeds coming together, while the designer dog comes two purebred parents. In addition, some believe that crossing two breeds is a great way to solve genetic health issues; however, there is a problem with this theory. The issue arises if both dog breeds have a tendency to the same genetic issues. Most people think of Labs and how they sweet they are. So, does this sweetness help balance out the Malinois all-work temperament? When it comes to their size, expect the Labrador Malinois mixed-breed dog to be on the larger side. Each dog is unique. Some of these dogs may tend to be more on the sweet side, while others are more sensitive, or outgoing. What is a Belgian Malinois? These are highly intelligent working dogs that first originated in Belgium during the s, but then found their way to the U. The breed was developed to be a working dog, specifically a shepherd of cattle, sheep, etc. In addition, the Malinois requires regular strenuous exercise every day, because they are bred to work. They enjoy jogging, hiking, playing fetch and more, and are best for families that are highly active. They do well with dog sports and agility competitions, and enjoy regular obedience training classes. In fact, Malinois are highly trainable. The dogs need be mentally and physically stimulated in order to be happy. These dogs have a strong prey instinct, making them not usually recommended for families with young children or other animals especially cats. Because of their strong prey instinct, they have a tendency to nip or bite; they do bite very hard. These awesome dogs are recommended for experienced pet parents who understand exactly what this dog needs. Otherwise, a Malinois can become bored or depressed, which an lead to destructive or even aggressive behavior. What is a Labrador Retriever? The Labrador Retriever is one of the most common family dogs around! These very friendly dogs bond th their entire family, and they enjoy socializing with other humans and dogs. Labs are known for being hard-working and good-natured. These dogs are highly trainable and love to work, but they also enjoy having some fun! Just like the Malinois, Labs needs a lot of exercise to get rid of their excess energy. And the exercise needs to be intense. This can include jogging, playing fetch, and more. They also do well in dog competitions, including agility and other dog sports. They also enjoy training sessions to help them stay mentally fit. Labs are sweet natured, which makes them great companions or therapy dogs. Did we mention they also make great watchdogs? Labs are very protective of their family and their home. One health issue both dog breeds share is hip dysplasia. This is a painful condition of the hip, where the socket becomes malformed. It can cause gait problems, arthritis and more. Each dog is a beautiful, unique individual. However, both the Lab and the Malinois are work dogs, who need to have a job in order to happy. Having said that, it could also be the crossbreed puppy could have an extreme of either the Malinois or the Lab temperaments. Or the puppy could develop a balanced personality with characteristics of both mellowed out. We do know that if you need a dog for a specific job, then a mixed breed puppy is probably not the best option. Both breeds need training and socialization, so your mixed Lab Malinois will definitely need this to make sure they stay happy and healthy. And remember that your mixed dog will need to always be supervised around young children and other pets. This is due to the strong prey instinct in the Malinois, and some Labs. Also keep it fun! This is a great way to bond with your Lab Malinois dog! Labs generally come in three colors: black, yellow, and chocolate. However, sometimes they may even appear white or silver. Malinois come in four colors that can include black-tipped fawn, black-masked fawn, mahogany or tan. As a result, you could end up with a Belgian Malinois black lab mix, or some other color combination. This will depend on the parents and how the genetics play out in the puppies. Grooming When it comes to grooming a Malinois Lab, both the purebred dogs have coats that help them deal with all types of weather. Both also tend to shed, especially in the fall and spring. Your mixed fur baby will definitely need to be brushed at least once a week, but more often during the high shedding seasons. As bathing, your Malinois Lab will require occasional bathing, depending on how often he gets dirty and stinky. Some dogs may benefit from a weekly bath, while others may only need to be bathed once a month or so. A Malinois Lab mix will also need his toenails regularly trimmed, about once every three months, or when they become too long. It is possible to breed the Belgian Malinois with other dogs, such as a Golden Retriever, which would result in a Belgian Malinois Golden Retriever mix. Here, again, the characteristics of the dog will depend on the purebred parents. The Malinois Lab mix can result in a wonderful dog. Just remember that these dogs are highly energetic and need positive reinforcement training.

Pros and Cons of Owning a Poodle Shiba Inu Mix If you are still undecided or unconvinced about owning a Poo Shi, take time to think it over and weigh the pros and cons. The advantages of taking care of a Poo Shi include the following: Good behavior: Shiba Poos are affectionate dogs that are loyal to their owners. They also love spending time with families and children. Their kind nature and fun-loving behavior make them great canine companions. Intelligent and confident: Having two of the best qualities of its parent breeds, Poo Shis are fast learners and self-assured because of their intelligence and confidence. If you have a tiny home or apartment, then a Poo Shi fits right into your life. As long as your heart has enough space to love this pooch! However, if your dog starts to act out or has a stubborn streak, manage it with patience, love, and support. Inclination towards prey drive: As a result of two hunting dog breeds, Poo Shis are also inclined to chase after smaller animals. Training and early socialization can help your pooch be familiar with other pets. Aggressive tendencies: Poo Shis can display food and toy aggression due to their possessive trait. Though not all Poo Shis can have aggressive behavior, it is necessary to engage them with early socialization and proper training. Dependency issues: As attention lovers, Shiba Poos may develop clingy behaviors and be emotionally dependent on their owners. They might act out or cause destruction due to a lack of attention for long periods. But the decision will solely be in your hands if this pooch is suitable for you. Lifespan Sociability Many people are attracted to designer breeds developed with Poodles because they are low-shedding dogs and considered to be hypoallergenic. Unfortunately, this is not something that always carries across to the Poo-Shi. Shiba Poos that take after their Poodle parent in looks are likely to shed far less than those that look more like the Shiba Inu. If you suffer from dog allergies, it is something to consider when choosing a Poo-Shi puppy. In terms of housing requirements, the Poo-Shi can adapt to apartment living. However, they are moderately active dogs that require daily exercise, and as such, they would likely be happier in a house with a fenced-in yard in which they can run around and play. The Poo-Shi breed is lucky to exist. At the time, the breed was reduced to just three surviving bloodlines, from which all modern Shiba Inus and Poo-Shis have descended. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the first Shiba Inu imported to the U. Some Poo-Shis have a bit of a sassy attitude. This is another personality trait that the Poo-Shi sometimes inherits from their Shiba Inu parent. If your Poo-Shi dog is inclined to give you a bit of attitude, they will deliberately ignore you and any instructions you give until they are ready to listen. These intelligent dogs are affectionate and loyal and not at all timid. They tend to bond closely with their family members but are wary of strangers and make great guard dogs that will stand their ground and alert you to any danger. As discussed above, the Poo-Shi can have a bit of a stubborn streak, but this is not always an issue, and with a little patience, they are generally quite easy to train. Friendly and playful, these happy designer dogs tend to have a moderate amount of energy. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are excellent around children and crave attention, preferring to be with people than spend time alone. As with most dogs, it is a good idea to keep an eye on them around toddlers, but Poo-Shi is more likely to walk away from a child who becomes too rough or annoying than to get aggressive or snappy. This trait results in them having a desire to chase small animals, which is something that may become problematic if you introduce a small new pet into your household. You should be aware, though, that a Poo-Shi can be a little possessive and may not like sharing your attention. So, if they are left alone for long periods or feel ignored, they may start to act out with destructive behavior. As with all dogs, they will benefit from early training and socialization, so you will have a loyal friend for life. Ideally, you want to ensure that the food you select provides a range of nutrients, including meat, grain, and vegetable ingredients, and is high in protein and dietary fiber. A product such as could be a perfect choice. This may take the form of a long walk, a visit to your local dog park, or even a good run around in the yard with the kids. If kept inside without the exercise and mental stimulation they need, a Poo-Shi may start to become destructive, so their daily exercise is not something that you should overlook. They tend to respond well to positive reinforcement and encouragement, so it is always best to praise them when they get things right and ignore their failures rather than scold them. Some Poo-Shis can be a little stubborn or sassy. If this is the case, you may find training your dog to be a bit more challenging. As with other dog breeds, the key to successfully training and socializing you Poo-Shi is to start while they are young. A quick brush once or twice a week will usually be all that is required to keep their coat looking its best; however, if your dog has a coat more like a Poodle than a Shiba Inu, you may wish to have it clipped by a professional dog groomer every few months. Your Poo-Shi will also benefit from having their nails clipped and their teeth brushed regularly with canine toothpaste. Provided that they are well cared for and receive their regular vaccinations and worming treatments, they should live a happy and healthy life into their old age. Of course, there are still a few conditions to which the Poo-Shi is susceptible. However, many of these can be largely prevented or avoided with careful breeding and puppy selection. Minor Conditions. White, sable, brown, cream, black, fawn Suitable for: Families of all kinds, first-time dog owners, those seeking a low-shedding dog, apartment-dwellers Temperament: Loyal, friendly, affectionate, alert These pups are a great choice for those who want a dog with spunk but only a moderate amount of energy. They are alert and can be suspicious of strangers, causing them to be quite vocal unless trained and socialized well. If you are looking for a good family dog, this should be at the top of the list. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. Poo Shi Puppies A post shared by Yoshi yoshitheshibapoo The parents of these little dogs are both quite popular. Although Shibu Inus are popular throughout Asian countries like China, Shanghai, Japan, and Korea, they have yet to make leaps in popularity and numbers in North America. For that reason, their hybrid puppies are a little bit harder to come by. That alone can increase their price exponentially, depending on where you live. If you decide to adopt from a breeder, it is best to vet them to know that you are supporting a dog-friendly business. Ask your breeder to give you a tour of their facility. They should be willing to show you any part of their facility that they allow their dogs in. Another request to make before finalizing the adoption is for the health records of the parents. Having these will make you aware of potential problems that you need to keep an eye on while your pup ages. Their feisty characters and spunk are what endears them to their families more than anything. Poo Shis tend to be quite loyal and loving toward their families. They will almost always prefer to be around their family. They can also be quite possessive. When you adopt one of these dogs, expect to do habit training to keep them from getting food or toy aggression. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are a small to medium-sized dog that tends to be down-to-earth. This means that they usually behave well around children. Although the Poo Shi can have negative temperament traits regarding sharing and their distrust of strangers, you can curb many of these bad habits through socialization methods. Start to socialize your dog as young as you can, and they will often become pups that can quickly adapt to being around other kinds of pets, both cats and dogs. As long as they get around 2 cups of food each day, they should be satisfied. Adjust the diet accordingly if your dog consistently gets more exercise. Your vet can also help you find the right amount and balance of food to keep them healthy and happy. Space the meals out to at least two each day, although three or four meals a day are better. Having less food spread out between multiple meals allows their digestive system to keep up with their intake and results in fewer stomach upsets and digestive issues. You can even jog with them, although be careful to work up to a longer or faster-paced run because their natural endurance is relatively low. If you prefer to walk with your dog more than any other exercise, try to walk them about 8 miles each week. It is best to be patient and firm but kind because they will not take it well if you start to yell or get frustrated with them. You will likely need to train them out of some of their more natural tendencies, like barking at unknown sounds and people or food aggression. They are hypoallergenic , excellent for those who have allergies to dogs. You should keep them groomed to keep their coat and skin healthy. It also serves as a good bonding time. Poo Shis can inherit various types of fur because the parent dogs have different types of fur. They often have a thick, wavy coat. It is best to use a slicker brush to comb through their coats at least once a week. You should also use a nail clipper to keep their nails trimmed down and comfortable for them when they walk. Often, their hybridization is genetically stronger and less disposed to those diseases. However, there are still things that you should watch out for, especially if their parents have a disease history. Minor Conditions. What are these possible health issues? Perhaps you've been looking at Shiba Inu mixes and heard the word "Poo-Shi" thrown around here and there. A Poo-Shi, is a quick slurring of the breeds Poodle and Shiba Inu, generally used by designer dog "breeders" to make their mixed breed pups stand out. This article is meant to give you a quick "crash course" in designer dogs, their plusses and their drawbacks, and look at what exactly a "Poo-Shi" is. Btw, they also go by the name of Shiba Doodles! Bred for hunting small prey, these dogs generally have a high level of prey drive. Shiba Inu are also well known for their sassy attitudes and "primitive" dog behaviors. These spicy little dogs won't take anything lying down and will often ignore owners, even ones that they respect. While some Shiba Inus are biddable to an extent, you won't find them beating out Golden Retrievers for obedience awards. But what about Poodles? With Poodles, it mostly depends on their size. Toy and miniature Poodles have had some of their gundog capabilities bred out of them, but standard Poodles are a completely different story. If your Shiba Doodles mix is of toy or miniature origin, the pup has a chance of lowering it's prey drive. It may still bark at squirrels and rip apart squeaky toys, but it's less likely to make a hunting buddy. Both breeds end up with a hefty dose of aggression, depending on the Poodle being thrown in. Left: Poodle, Right: Shiba Inu If your Shiba Inu Poodle mix shows any sort of aggressive tendencies, you must take proactive steps to remedy this issue sooner than later. With the standard Poodle's background in bird dog retrieval and hunting and the Shiba Inu's background in small game, a Shiba Inu Poodle mix will have a high prey drive. Always ensure that they are securely leashed when out. As a pet, any of the three Poodles and Shiba Inu crosses will make excellent home companions for years to come. They will be fiery and tell you their opinions, but for those with a deep love of primitive dog attitudes, the Poodle addition should just help them get that across all the more. However, coats may get a Poodle's wave or even some curl, giving them an attractive look. Coloration will depend on the genetic background of the parents. Stature will highly depend on which Poodle the Shiba Inu was mixed with and these mixes may run the gamut from 8 to 10 pounds, or up to 30 to 40 pounds. Are Shiba Doodles Hypoallergenic? There's really no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, though certain dogs affect allergy sufferers a bit less. Since Shiba Doodles have the coat of a poodle and a Shiba Inu, there's a good chance that Shiba Doodles won't affect allergy sufferers as much as some other breeds. This means that slobbery breeds such as Bulldogs and Basset Hounds are much more likely to cause allergy symptoms compared to to other dogs Health Issues of Shiba Doodles Both Poodles and Shiba Inus enjoy relatively good health. Between the two breeds, eye issues seem to be the most prevalent health concern. Glaucoma and cataracts are already prevalent issues within the Shiba Inu bred. With Poodles also carrying cataract and retinal issues, make sure that your pup's parents have had the full range of eye testing. Other health issues to slow your dog down are joint and ligament issues. Patellar luxation and hip dysplasia are both becoming more and more common in all varieties of Poodle and within the Shiba Inu community. Hip dysplasia happens when the hip joint is not well seated within the curve of the pelvis that it should settle in. Patellar luxation is when the kneecap slides within it's groove. Both of these issues will likely require surgery in the long run. The Issues With Designer Dogs There is an enormous debate upon the problems with designer dogs, with many "breeders" noting "hybrid vigor". So, "hybrid vigor" is the attempt to allay this by introducing different gene pools to each other. To give a clearer picture: imagine that you only have a bathtub half full of acid, half full of water to drink from. You drain half of the bathtub in front of you and open the tap to pour in more water. Attempts at "hybrid vigor" are trying to dilute concentrated gene pools precisely like this. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. A lot of designer dogs are poorly created in puppy mill environments. Parents go untested for their breed's various inherited diseases because the "breeders" do not understand that "hybrid vigor" is a crack shot at best. Most designer dog "breeders" have only an elementary level of genetic understanding. Some puppies may luck out and get some of that "hybrid vigor". But plenty more will just end up with a double dose of their parental breeds' poor genetics. It depends on your preferences. A Shiba Doodle will be a bright, playful dog that should be very willing to please, with a stubborn streak. It will have a fantastic attitude and probably not be the greatest dog around cats and other small pets without careful training. If you desire a Shiba Doodle, we do want to state that we do not condone designer dog breeding, nor the purchase of designer dog puppies. We do however, always advocate for rescuing a dog in need. We provide information about Shiba Inu mixes to help current and potential owners of this dog. With each article we write about Shiba Inu "mixes", we hope to inform readers about the downsides of designer dogs and the need for everyone to view all dogs as living beings that need care. They should not be seen as commodities. There are already a plethora of "designer" dogs in shelters and rescues waiting for someone to love and care for them. Yes, we know it's quite cliche, but please adopt and don't shop. We are still determining precisely when this cute hybrid came into existence. After all; mixed-breed dogs like Pooshis have existed since the dawn of time! Are you looking for information about a Poodle-Shiba Inu mix — particularly its physical characteristics, temperament, full-grown size, breeders, puppies for sale, hypoallergenic coat types etc.? Then read on, we have all that for you and more! The resulting puppies vary in size, based on the size of the Poodle parent. Here are some facts about its parent dogs. These will help you gain some insights into this relatively rare hybrid Poo-Shi dog. Shiba Inu If you do a Google search for Shiba Inu , you will probably get more information about the Shiba Inu cryptocurrency than the dog breed. Shiba Inus are a small-to-medium-sized Japanese dog breed. The Shiba Inu is often described as a dog that looks like a fox, acts like a cat, but loves like a dog! The word Inu means dog in Japanese. They were originally used as hunting companions to flush out the small game from burrows and bushes. Today, Shiba are one of the most popular dog breeds in Japan. Many Shiba owners have dedicated YouTube channels or Instagram pages for their Inus and they have become internet sensations. Poodles Poodles are one of the smartest dog breeds in the world. They too are an ancient dog breed having either Roman or Egyptian dogs in their ancestry. This may be due to their water-resistant, curly coats which gave them an advantage in the water. They could easily retrieve waterfowl for their hunters. Poodles were also used as circus dogs in France. This is because they were considered incredibly easy to train and learned tricks quickly. Poodles are considered one of the best breeds to cross with other dog breeds. The PooShi is one such creation that combines the smartness of two ancient dog breeds both having easy trainability and loving and loyal dispositions. Shibapoos are not recognised by the AKC or other major canine clubs across the world. However, some breeders register their Shibadoodles with hybrid clubs such as International Canine Hybrid Club. How Big will a Pooshi Dog Get? Height and Weight of Shibadoodles As with any designer or a hybrid dog breed, you cannot predict the height and weight of a Poo-Shi. The Poo Shi Shiba Inu Poodle mix full-grown size depends greatly on the parent dogs and complex canine genetics. Most importantly, they depend on the Poodle used in the breeding. In general, you can expect your Poo-Shi dog to measure between inches cm and weigh around lb. The coat of Shiba doodle will also not be standard. Most Pooshis have a scraggly, curly coat in colours like apricot, white, beige, cream, black, black-and-cream, red, red-sesame, merle, etc. This brings us to the question — Are Pooshis hypoallergenic? You can always speak to your Poo-shi breeder if you want a hypoallergenic Shiba doodle. Experienced breeders understand canine genetics and can breed specifically for low-shedding, low-dander-producing dogs. Embark and Animal Genetics in the USA, can test for furnishings teddy bear-type doodle coat , shedding genes and coat texture curly, fleece or smooth. The best oodle breeders utilise genetic testing to inform the decisions made in their breeding programs. For example, a Shibadoodle that is bred back with a Poodle will result in an F1b Pooshi which has a greater percentage of Poodle genes. This could yield a relatively low-shedding dog. The personality of a Shiba Inu-Poodle mix can be described as independent and intelligent, stubborn and tough, active with lots of energy, escape artists, and drama queens — both male and female Pooshis. The PooShi is an extremely intelligent and problem-solving dog. It is an observer and will watch and observe its environment and patterns. Then it will try and use this knowledge to get what it wants! These little dogs are known to be quite the Houdini — they are escape artists so always make sure you secure your yard or keep your pet in a crate or on a leash. Raising a Shiba Poo is like raising a child — you can shower your love on your dog but when it comes to discipline, you have to be strict without using negative reinforcement methods or punishment. Instead, use praise and treats, and be patient when training this smart dog. Consistency is especially important while training a Shiba poo. Train your pet a little bit every day and soon you will see results. Also, all family members need to be on board when it comes to household rules. And your dog will never stop begging once it has learned it! This can be very challenging during training, but with consistency and patience, you can overcome these challenges too. Thankfully, Shibapoos learn quickly because they inherit their smartness from both their parent breeds. Pooshis get these traits from both parent dogs. Like the Shiba Inu breed, Pooshis are extremely confident. This trait combined with their smartness helps them quickly assess a situation and figure out how best to use what is at hand to accomplish their goal. For families with kids, Shibapoos make excellent companions. They are playful and loving. And despite their small sizes, they make excellent watchdogs as well. They are alert and attentive and will immediately go and investigate the source of noise in their territory. On the downside, Pooshis are quite the barkers. They might bark while playing and also when they sense an intruder or if they are angry. As can be seen, Pooshis need quite a lot of work, but they are definitely worth the time and effort. This can result in people returning or abandoning their pups. Where to Buy a Poo-Shi from? The price of a Shiba Inu mix Poodle is not standardised. It can vary from city to city and breeder to breeder. The price is higher if the dog is trained or if it comes from top bloodlines. If the parent dogs are show-winners and champion dogs, fully health tested or if the breeder has imported their dogs from Japan, then also the Pooshi puppy price will be a lot higher. As such, Pooshis are relatively rare, so they tend to be expensive. What to Feed a Shibapoo? These dogs are prone to rapid weight gain and obesity can cause a number of health issues for them. Select the right food after consulting your dog breeder or vet nutritionist. The food you choose should be free from additives and fillers. If possible, you can also opt to feed your dog a raw dog food diet. Some Pooshis with the Poodle-like coat will need a ton of grooming to prevent skin issues. On average, the lifespan of this wonderful mixed-breed dog is years. Fiercely loyal and small, the Shiba Poodle mix or Poo-shi is one of the most popular poodle mix breeds. Energy Level and Exercise - Duchess is very high energy and will need a lot of exercise and discipline. Daily Structure and Schedule - She will require structure with someone experienced with the breed. Temperament - Duchess is an alpha dog and needs someone who understands her needs. Obedience Training - She is very intelligent but also high energy so will require a lot of patience and guidance with obedience training. Behaviors - Duchess is a puppy so she still behaves just like one -- mouthing, chewing, jumping, etc. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years. They could take on traits from just one parent or any combination of traits from both of them. An Akita tends to be loyal, devoted, and dedicated to their families. They do tend to get along well with children, but they tend to be wary of strangers and they have a high prey drive. Although they tend to be quiet dogs, they will bark to alert you. This makes them good watchdogs. On top of that, Akitas have an instinct to guard and protect. This makes socialization and training early and often particularly important for this breed. You may be able to expect a similar temperament in your Akita Mix. However, the other dog breed in the mix could affect their temperament. Asking the breeder about the other parent breed can help prepare you for all of the possibilities. Meeting the mother dog can also give you an idea of what temperament to expect in your Akita Mix puppy. Akitas are moderately adaptable dogs that can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need to be happy and healthy. Due to their protective instincts and high prey drive, they should only be let off-leash in securely fenced areas. A mixed-breed dog can inherit any combination of the potential health concerns common to one or both of the parent breeds. From the Akita side, the potential health concerns to be aware of in an Akita Mix include hip dysplasia, thyroid issues, skin conditions, progressive retinal atrophy, and acquired myasthenia gravis. Reputable breeders will screen their breeding stock to avoid passing issues on to puppies. So, make sure you ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross. Also, talk to them about the genetic and health history of both of the parent breeds. Although Akitas love their family and prefer to be near them, they also have an independent nature. They are highly intelligent and pick up training quickly, but they can also have a stubborn streak. This can be difficult for a first-time dog owner to navigate on their own. The other parent breed could balance this out, but you still need to be prepared for a potentially hard-headed pooch. As such, puppy training classes are recommended. Regardless of owner experience, puppy training classes can still be a good idea as these classes often offer opportunities to socialize a puppy. Akitas have a dense double coat that will shed moderately year-round with heavier shedding sessions twice a year as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week and moving to daily brushing during seasonal shedding can help your dog be more comfortable and contain a lot of the loose fur to your brush. Bathing is on an as-needed basis. Monthly nail trimming is usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Many dog owners overlook this, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health problems in dogs. Practicing good dental care for dogs can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day is ideal. Akitas tend to have a moderate activity level. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are usually sufficient for these dogs. The other parent breed could affect the exercise needs for an Akita Mix. By talking to the breeder about the other parent breed, you can get a good idea of what sort of energy range to prepare for in your puppy. A fully-grown Akita usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. The other dog breed in the mix can seriously affect the size you could see in a fully-grown Akita Mix. So, make sure you talk to the breeder about the other parent breed. Akitas generally live for years. The other parent breed in the cross could have an effect on this for an Akita Mix. Talking to the breeder about it can help clarify to what extent it could be affected if at all. Featured Akita Mix Article. boxer puppies for sale in los angeles area - I am a serious hobby breeder and exhibitor with many champions to my name as I show my Goldens in both the US and Canada. I adhere to the Code of Ethics set forth by the Golden Retriever Club of America when it comes to breeding, and put a lot of time and research into planning each litter. Since I breed for quality rather than quantity, I only have a few litters a year and always with the expectation of keeping one or two puppies to show in the future. My goal is to produce beautiful, healthy Golden Retriever puppies with stellar temperaments that can excel in any venue whether it be conformation, agility, obedience, therapy work, or any other activity, but most importantly, as treasured companions. All Bearabella breeding dogs have their health clearances for hips, elbows, hearts, eyes, and thyroids as I strive to produce the healthiest Golden puppies possible. I also breed for the correct Golden Retriever temperament as dictated by the American Kennel Club standard and will not breed any dog that has a bad disposition, no matter how beautiful it may be. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoy your visit! Please research the pros and cons of this breed Before obtaining a Golden Retriever as it is a life long commitment! We even have all types of golden retrievers for sale! At My Golden Retriever Puppies, we pride ourselves on our golden retriever price being fair and affordable for high quality puppies.
