I decided I was ready to go because we were in an apartment and every day, it was getting smaller and smaller and smaller. My family loved me, but sometimes, love is not enough because I can hardly breathe. Are you interested in preparing a dog for a forever home? For more information, email us. We want to provide our fosters and adopters with as much basic information as possible. However, she quickly realized that Chuck was very sick, suffering from either heartworms or congenital heart failure. As it turns out, Chuck has a severe case of pneumonia, but is improving daily under the excellent care of Bright Star Veterinary Clinic. He might still have a ways to go until he is feeling better, but we can already see a difference. He is starting to eat better, and actually gets excited for his food. When we picked up Chuck from boarding, they reported he had not been eating so well. He is now clearing his bowl. He is also coming out of his room more, and follows you from room to room. He does have a limp on his front leg, so he is a little slower than most. He is so sweet, and wants constant attention. We will keep the breathing treatments up until his lungs have been cleared of the pneumonia. We all got up, ate breakfast, and are now watching TV and catching up on some much-needed rest. You guys see that position Chuck is laying in? On his side! When this boy first came to our house, he could only lay on his tummy and even then struggled to breathe. We have successfully made it to him laying comfortably on his side with no issues breathing. This Foster Mom is so proud of how far this boy has come. Chuck is a very sweet funny guy. We first thought he was deaf after a few days of him being here. We were very sad for him, and had a little pitty party. The next day, he was snoozing in the kitchen, and I opened the fridge door, and he popped up so fast! Boy, did we laugh, and we realized he is very motivated with food. He will do anything for some turkey or cheese. He is doing well with his breathing treatments, and we will continue those for a while. He is a very loving boy, who just wants to be in whatever room you are in. We love him, and hope someone will see the boy we see and love him for being him. Have a great Sunday, everyone! I have learned a lot about Chuck this week. First of all, he hates to be left alone. He will try to find any way possible to make it to where you are and stand right on your feet. No kennel or gate keeps Chuck from making the great escape. Secondly, he loves the mini human because the dude has some pretty awesome snacks. He also has some pretty awesome toys and things that Chuck thinks are his, as well. He shares snacks,so why not his belongings? Good luck with that thinking, Chuck. Chuck also does not like kibble. He prefers Honest Kitchen Food, which he will devour. We thought, well, maybe he is too sick to eat. I gave him a few bites just to get something on his tummy, and he has never looked back. Picky little dude! But foster mom gives him what he wants, and I hope that the couch and food makes him happy. Well, honestly, I just sit, watch and lay on their masterpieces. Chuck really hates his kennel, so we try to keep him out as much as possible. We have had some potty issues, but some positive changes are taking place for the sweet guy. He is a very sweet, well behaved guy. He loves the mini human, and he soaks up all the attention he can get. His breathing troubles are pretty much by the way side and he is making a very good recovery. We are very proud of his progress and are happy he is on the mend. He runs and hides and makes every attempt possible to not go in the bath. He is a very smart guy, and decides when he wants to do something. He is becoming more active, and will play more and will do a dance when you come in the door. It cracks me up, he runs to it like someone is going to take it. He makes us smile, and laugh a lot. We are still working on potty training. Like I said earlier, he decides when and where he will go. We love him and hope someone finds him as sweet and funny as we do. Bulldog Spotlight Gordon James I joined rescue because my family became overwhelmed with five kids and life, plain and simply. I decided I was ready to go because we were in an apartment and every day, it was getting smaller and smaller and smaller. My family loved me, but sometimes, love is not enough because I can hardly breathe. We are dedicated to saving and re-homing Bulldogs so they can have the healthy, happy lives they truly deserve. The group has been dedicated to the breed since , as a component of Lone Star Bulldog Club. Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue accepts Bulldogs from owners who can no longer keep them, as well as retrieves Bulldogs from shelters and other undesirable situations. Each Bulldog in the program is lovingly cared for in a foster home until the perfect forever family for that specific dog is found. Every Bulldog is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a forever-home match. Adoption is a coordinated process between the coordinators, fosters and applicant. We work together with our knowledge of the dog to find the best home. When you apply, you might have a particular dog in mind. But please understand, that dog may already be in the process of being adopted by an approved family who has been waiting weeks to be matched with the right dog. But they would prefer to be the only thing with fur in their home. They still make a wonderful companion and deserve a loving home. For your convenience, they have been designated as Forever Single on our website. If you plan on only having one dog, we hope you will consider one of these. Since most of our volunteers live in the North Texas area, it is easier on us and the applying family if they live in this area. Because of this, our out-of-state adoptions are incredibly rare and only in neighboring states. If you are ready to submit your adoption application, please complete the Adopt A Bulldog Application. A volunteer will then review your application. This process can take some time, and not every home is a suitable home for a Bulldog, so please be patient. You are not buying a dog. My name is Monty and I am famous! Yesterday, my photo was all over social media and friends were begging someone to save me. The shelter said I had to be out by ….
And we can see why! The Goldendoodle is not only a fluffy, cute, and low-shedding breed. The goldendoodle is loving, affectionate with family, intelligent, kid-friendly, and even dog friendly. It actually inherits some of its best traits from its parent breeds. Many goldendoodle owners believe that because this breed is mostly low shedding, it is also low maintenance. But this could not be further from the truth. The truth is that goldendoodles do require daily grooming. This includes brushing and combing everyday or at least 3 times a week. Creating a grooming routine with your goldendoodle is vital to keeping their fluffy coat mat-free! Matting is the number one grooming problem that goldendoodle owners encounter. Matted fur does not only look bad, but it is very painful for goldendoodles. If not removed, it can also cause other health issues including discomfort, skin disorder, flea infestation, mites, worms, and other parasites. And severe matting usually leads to a shavedown, right to the skin. Shaving a fluffy goldendoodle is actually very frustrating for a doodle owner because they may not know what they are doing wrong. These are the top three tools that will make grooming so much easier. A High Quality Slicker Brush The slicker brush is the number one dog brush recommended by grooming professionals for goldendoodles or any type of doodle hybrid. It is actually the type of brush you want to start with when grooming your dog because it will help break up any knots and prevent matting. It is perfect for doodle coat maintenance at home. It is always important to keep the bristles of a slicker brush from bending or getting damaged as this can cause skin irritation, pain, and discomfort. What we love about this brush is that you can brush your goldendoodle, and then just click and clean the brush. The bristles retract when you click so they are kept from being damaged. And your brush can be stored and ready for your next brushing session. The doodle slicker brush is great at working through dense and thick coats because of its larger than standard pins. We do recommend you start out slow with this brush as it of professional grade. Do short and gentle strokes, and if your pup is not used to being brushed, the self-cleaning brush above might be a better option to get him used to the new brushing routine ; This slicker brush smoothly works its way through your goldendoodle's coat. It is one of the best slicker brushes on the market for goldendoodle owners because it makes coat maintenance much easier. It is great at removing tangles and mats. It's also perfect for achieving that fluffly look effortlessly. The Doodle slicker brush is extremely lightweight, the extra-long handle is ergonomic, and it is very comfortable and effective. A Metal Comb A metal comb should be used after you have brushed your goldendoodle thoroughly with the slicker brush. The end result should be the ability to get the comb from the root to the tip of the hair. We like the Dual-length Dog Metal Comb. It has long and short stainless steel teeth to quickly and painlessly remove any remaining tangles or knots. And the anti-slip handle protects your dog from any slippery accidents. A Dematting Tool A dematting tool should be your last resource when grooming your goldendoodle as it is specifically designed to remove mats. That said, if you are keeping up with your grooming routine by brushing and combing your doodle at least 3 times per week, you should not need to use the dematting tool. But if for some reason, you do forget to brush your dog, the dematting tool can come in very handy before having to take your pup to the groomer for a shavedown. The 3-in1 Dematting Tool can be a great option. If you bathe your dog, make sure you brush your dog's hair before the actual bath and use a high quality shampoo and conditioner. We love the 5-in-1 Pet Shampoo , it is great for goldendoodle hair. If you bathe your dog's matted hair without detangling it, it will just get worse! Wait for the fur to dry after the bath, and then brush it again. Do not brush a wet coat. Do not just brush the top of the coat as this does not really do anything to prevent matting. Start at the bottom of the coat, grab a handful of hair, and brush a line of fur away. You should be able to see the skin. As you go, brush the hair down making sure that with each line you get right to the skin. If you have the self-cleaning slicker brush, just click, clean, and store when finished. Otherwise, make sure the bristles are thoroughly cleaned. If the comb gets stuck in any particular section, go back and brush out the tangle with the slicker brush. Use the 9-rounded-teeth side. Hold the matted fur closest to the skin with your fingers before brushing or pulling at the mat. Start at the end of the mat and work your way up. Always do small strokes when combing through a matted area. View Larger Image When it comes to caring for your Goldendoodle, brushing his coat can be a bit of a challenge. Getting the perfect Goldendoodle coat takes more than just grooming; it takes the right brush. We also suggest you learning why should you brush Goldendoodle regularly. For instance, it does not make logical sense to use the same doodle brush for a goldendoodle and husky mix. Goldendoodle is a long-haired dog breed with a cuddly, teddy bear look. You need to put special consideration when you choose brushes for your fido. Whenever the proper type of brush is used, your pet will likely appreciate being brushed. If the pet exhibits signs of severe distress while you are grooming it, you might use the incorrect type of brush. Conversely, if he is content to stay still and get brushed, then you are likely using the right equipment. There are four major categories of brushes used on dogs: rakes, slicker brushes, bristle brushes, and pin brushes. The other types included below are just slight variations on these four types or are made for different special purposes. Slicker Brushes For Doodles Thin, short wires are arranged closely on a smooth surface and form slicker bristles. They are often used to eliminate matting from moderate or frizzy-coated dogs and are often regarded as the perfect brush for a Goldendoodle puppy. These are often the best brush for Goldendoodles as they clean their fur without much struggle. There are numerous types of slicker brushes on sale, but choose something with a supple grip and the proper dimensions to make brushing your dog simpler. Bernards, are groomed with these slicker brushes. Dogs with longer hair are more prone to developing mats which must be lifted. It is imperative to remember to use a slicker brush with care at all times especially while using it as a brush for mini Goldendoodle puppy. Rakes When it comes to grooming dogs, rakes are ideal for getting under the thick coat of a dog and getting rid of tangles and dead skin. They typically resemble a razor and have either one or two lines of tightly packed pins. They are meant to be utilized with gentle contact, similar to a blade. These types have a tendency to form dead undercoats, particularly during the blowing period, and their dense bodies collect detritus. The top lining of the coat will be missed by rakes that are too small, while rakes that are too lengthy may cause skin irritation. Bristle Combs The use of spike brushes is common when grooming dogs with short hair, smooth coats, and high shedding rates. Their tightly packed clusters of organic bristles sweep away stray hairs and revitalize the skin at the same time. Comb Brushes These brushes have a similar appearance to brushes widely used among humans. They are typically elliptic, with just a freely strung array of elastic strands topped with points. Pin combs or brushes are the most popular sort of brush, yet they are frequently the least effective. They will pick up stray hairs before they land on the furnishings, and they will complete and puff a well-combed coat, but they offer minimal value to the pet. They should be utilized to complete the grooming procedure. Canine Flea Comb The removal of insects, flea filth, and flea nestings from the fur of a dog can be accomplished using an all-natural method called a flea brush. In order to eliminate fleas and filth from the coat, the tips are pushed extremely closely against one another. Due to the fact that it has such fine blades, it works best on fur that is smooth, silky, or frizzy. Rubber Brushes A silicone brush also known as rubber brushes is an excellent multipurpose tool for all types of coatings. They are extremely helpful if you have a short-coated dog who sheds excessively owing to the silicone bumps present on the brush. The plastic acts as an attraction to extract stray hairs, while the gentle pins knead the body, improving circulation activity and promoting the distribution of natural fats. Double-sided Brushes Brushes with two sides are a handy tool for brushing all kinds of dog fur. The side with the pin comb eliminates knots and matting from the coat. The opposite side of the comb is a wire brush that is ideal for touch-ups because it straightens and polishes the fur. Pin bristles are ineffective on short-haired dogs; however, a two-sided dog brush is far more effective on medium- to long-haired dogs. Mat Breakers Mat splitters for dogs come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, but the most of them are designed to accomplish the same goal: untangling matted dog hair. These brushing instruments include fine bristles that are designed to cut through matted fur in order to remove it. Because the blades are so thin, you need to be extremely careful to prevent slicing through the flesh of your pet. It is recommended that owners of dogs with fine coats minimize the amount of de-matting they undertake. Because of this, we have compiled a selection of the top combs and brushes for the various Goldendoodle coatings. This brush is a multifunctional brush which fulfills the fundamental brushing requirements of this expensive dog variety making them the most ideal grooming brush for Goldendoodles. The bristles of these brushes are sufficiently long to comb through such dense hair and keep matts from forming closer towards the body. Also, they are far enough apart that you can untangle hair and pull out debris and loose hair without much trouble. The teeth on the brush tend to be on the tender side, so they are less effective at combing curlier, denser fur, including the coat of the standard Poodle. If a Goldendoodle possesses curly hair, though, the bristles are effective. In addition to delivering a pleasant brushing treatment for the puppy, these brushes are also very simple for humans to use. The handle makes it easy to keep a firm hold on the comb without having to squeeze it hard. Twitter Pinterest Are you noodling over which is the best brush for Goldendoodle grooming? Are you about to pull your own hair out looking through the maze of dog brushes and grooming tools available? But I found the absolute best brush, and it has stood up to five years of almost daily Goldendoodle grooming. Not only can you save time. You can save money! Currently the Chris Christensen brush is on sale! However, with a brushing routine in place and with the right grooming tool for the job, it can be a positive experience for both of you. In fact, many Doodle owners have shared that it is one of their favorite routines and an enjoyable bonding experience for the Doodle and human team. Why the best Goldendoodle brush helps combat those menacing mats As adorable as the Doodle dog is, many Goldendoodle coats require diligent maintenance. Brushing keeps the hair clean, mat-free, gets rid of loose hairs, and is an important part of keeping our Doods healthy and happy. All dogs need brushing and many other breeds of dogs require significant upkeep and maintenance. However, since Goldendoodles are a hybrid or cross breed, there is a wide range of variation between coats: from curly coated to wavy to woolly. With that wide variety, comes a wide range of upkeep. But regardless of coat type, Goldendoodles need brushing along with either DIY hair trims or trips to the groomer for haircuts. How I found the best brush for Goldendoodle grooming So how do you achieve the Goldendoodle grooming dream? When the weather is nice out, I brush Chloe outside using the best tool for the job—the Chris Christensen Slicker Brush. It starts with having the right tools for the job! After trying a pile of other brushes that have ended up in the back of my junk drawer, I did more research. I reached out to other Goldendoodle parents and checked in with a professional groomer to get the on what is THE BEST brush for Goldendoodle grooming that helps keep the coat mat-free and healthy. Other Doodle moms sing its praises. Initially, I was skeptical about spending that kind of money on a brush. However, my parents instilled in me the belief that having the right tool for the job was the first step in learning how to do anything. Pros: The fine pins glide through her hair smoothly. The pins are long so I can brush through the hair and not just on top of it. The handle is ergonomic. I use it for de-matting and detangling as well as fluffing the fur. Cons: Sticker shock. The brush seemed pricey, but it turns out that it is a great value. It has easily stood up to all of our DIY at-home grooming and brushing sessions over five years. And it looks like it can handle quite a few more years. The pins on the comb are strong and the tips are rounded, making it gentler on Chloe. As a Goldendoodle puppy grows, the Goldendoodle puppy coat transitions at around six months and changes from puppy hair to an adult coat. I noticed that her coat went from a straighter puppy coat to curlier coat at around six months of age. Depending on whether your Goldendoodle dog leans more to the Golden Retriever side of the family or the Poodle side of the family will impact the adult coat type—wavy, curly, woolly, or maybe even a bit of a combination. Additionally, by gently handling those little puppy paws, you will help your furry pal get used to having the paws handled for happier nail trims too. I Tried This. I use Millers Forge dog nail trimmers and have for 5 years now. If you have an adult Goldendoodle and brushing has been sporadic, anticipate how you can put a plan in place for both you and your dog that fits into your lifestyle. Setting both you and your dog up for success begins with a little preparation. Also, whenever I a buy a new dog product, in this case, the Chris Christensen brush, I first let Chloe get accustomed to it, by letting her sniff it and approach it on her own terms. When I got the new Chris Christensen dog brush, I placed it on the coffee table and let her check it out. Preparation Have a plan and get prepped before you begin brushing. I have three areas where I brush my red Goldendoodle dog : outside on the deck on nice days, on the couch in the evenings, or on the dog grooming table. Gather the tools you need before beginning. Set a time for daily brushing. Chloe, like most dogs, loves routines. Brushing with affirmation Grooming truly is a way to bond with and enjoy more time with Chloe. I keep it positive and affirm her every step of the way as I brush her curly mop of hair. Here are some things that I do: As I brush, I reward with lots of positive praise spoken in a high voice and some treats too. Additionally, I take breaks from brushing and massage her ears as another form of praise and love. Also, her collar rubs and can start mats around her neck. Sometimes I choose to tackle one problem area and focus on it for that sitting. I keep brushing sessions short and positive. I know that any tug at a mat can hurt, so I give her plenty of praise. Brushed and fluffed! And if your Goldendoodle gets restless, end on a positive note. Finally, here are some other thoughts: While no one else that I know has brought this up, I think Doodle mom guilt is a thing. If your Goldendoodle has mats, give yourself some grace. And if life gets crazy and you get behind on brushing, see the bullet point above. With a little time, effort, positivity, and the best dog brush for the job, you and your Goldendoodle can enjoy the brushing routine. What tips do you have for brushing your dog? But the real question was whether or not the brush held up to the hype of other reviewers and its promises. The Handle Right off the bat, the first thing I noticed is how soft and smooth the wooden handle is. It sort of gives off a calming vibe…like you should be extra kind and gentle while brushing your dog, and treat the brushing session as a bonding session. The Weight The brush is also very light in weight! The Construction This brush really feels super high-quality and durable. For the price, I would hope that it would be high-quality. How it Feels When Brushing The pins are equally smooth, yet sturdy. And, they feel amazing! Not only can Chloe attest to this just look at her face in the video above! While brushing Chloe, I noticed that the brush effectively helped coax out many of the loose tangles, curls, and cords that had formed again, loosely throughout her coat. However, this brush is not for deep mats. For deep, stubborn matting, you will need a slicker brush and a metal comb. See Also: Click the image As mentioned in the demo video above, the only problem I experienced was that while brushing her for the very first time using this brush, my arm was getting such a workout! After the very first brushing session, though, the brush has been consistently gliding easily through her hair. In fact, I think she looks forward to getting brushed because when I start, she will willingly turn onto her back so I can get her belly. He loves the backscratch that he gets! For example, on day 1 mix 80 percent of old and 20 percent new. Then the next day 70 percent old kibble food and 30 percent new kibble food. And so on until your puppy gets accustomed to the new dog food. But every pet owner has stated that transitioning their puppy to a new food has never been easy. How To Treat Diarrhea In Golden Retrievers Remember, while occasional diarrhea might not be a cause for alarm, chronic or severe symptoms should always be taken seriously. Check for any signs of blood or mucus. Observe if your dog shows other symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, or loss of appetite. Dietary Adjustments: Offer a bland diet: boiled chicken without skin or bones and plain white rice can be beneficial. Gradually reintroduce their regular food after days, mixing it with the bland diet and increasing the regular food portion over a few days. Maintain Hydration: Diarrhea can lead to dehydration. Make sure your dog has access to fresh water at all times. You can also provide an electrolyte solution designed for dogs to help replenish lost fluids. Avoid Giving Human Medications: Many human drugs, like certain anti-diarrheals, can be toxic to dogs. Always consult a vet before administering any medication. Check for Parasites: Worm infestations can cause diarrhea. Regular deworming is essential, but if diarrhea persists, have a fecal exam done. Consult Your Veterinarian: If the diarrhea continues for more than 24 hours, if your dog seems lethargic, or if there are other worrying symptoms, reach out to your vet. A microscopic fecal evaluation, x-rays, blood tests, DNA tests, biopsies of the intestinal tract, endoscopy, ultrasound, or even exploratory abdominal surgery may be performed They can provide appropriate medications, suggest further dietary adjustments, or conduct tests to determine the cause. Prevention: Ensure a balanced diet and avoid sudden changes in food. Regularly check for and treat parasites. Keep your dog away from garbage, spoiled food, and other potential stomach irritants. Undiagnosed Medical Condition: Tummy problems in dogs can occur due to an undiagnosed medical condition. These conditions include inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, and even cancer. If you suspect your pet has an undiagnosed medical condition causing their diarrhea, immediately take them to the vet. Remember, the sooner you get a diagnosis, the better the outcome and the happier your pet will be! Here are some options: Boiled Chicken and Rice: Cook boneless, skinless chicken and plain white rice. The chicken should be well-cooked and shredded, while the rice should be thoroughly cooked and soft. This combination is gentle on the stomach and helps firm up stools. Plain Pumpkin: Canned or cooked plain pumpkin not pumpkin pie filling can be beneficial for soothing an upset stomach and firming up loose stools. Start with a small amount and gradually increase as tolerated. Plain Yogurt: Choose plain, unsweetened yogurt with live and active cultures. It can help restore the balance of good bacteria in the digestive system. Boiled Potatoes: Boiled and mashed potatoes without any added seasoning or butter can be easily digested and provide energy. Remember to offer small, frequent meals to avoid overwhelming the digestive system. If the diarrhea persists or worsens, consult your veterinarian for a thorough evaluation and further guidance. These are some examples: Vomiting: If your dog is vomiting in addition to diarrhea, this could be a sign of a larger problem that necessitates a trip to the vet. Lethargy: If your dog is weak and tired, especially when combined with diarrhea, something is wrong, and a vet visit is required. This could be due to parasites, ulcers, or masses that require treatment from a veterinarian. Black tarry diarrhea: If your dog has black tarry diarrhea, it could be an upper GI bleed that requires medication from your veterinarian. Consult your veterinarian if you notice anything unusual with your Golden Retriever. Potential Complications Of Untreated Diarrhea In Golden Retriever Puppies If your golden retriever puppy has untreated diarrhea, you should take them to the vet immediately because there could be complications. These are some examples: Dehydration Diarrheic puppies can quickly become dehydrated, leading to serious health issues. The Canine Digestive System There are significant differences between the way dogs and people digest food. Human jaw shape and salivary enzymes, for example, will start breaking down a morsel in the mouth. Dogs, on the other hand, have mouths and jaws made for tearing, crushing, and wolfing food down. Their salivary enzymes are mostly designed to kill bacteria, which is why they can tolerate items that would send their human companions to the hospital. Food travels rapidly down the canine esophagus and enters the stomach in chunks, where most digestion takes place. Canine stomach acids are about three times stronger than those of humans, so they can digest food that is pretty much intact. Under normal circumstances, transit time from mouth through the small and large intestines should be under 10 hours, producing a firm, well-formed stool at the end. Dirty Dozen—Top 12 Causes of Doggie Diarrhea Many things can disrupt this well-balanced system, causing diarrhea or, less frequently, constipation. Some things, like eating too much grass, are not serious at all. Others can be a sign of a life-threatening problem, such as an indigestible object like a rock lodged in the stomach, or a disease like cancer. There are many reasons why a dog may develop loose stools, but most cases may be attributed to one of these 12 triggers: Dietary indiscretion: Eating too much, eating garbage, or spoiled food. Food intolerance Parasites: Most of these will cause illness in puppies or in adults with weak immune systems: Roundworms. Read the full disclosure here. Nearly every breed of dog out there suffers diarrhea at some point, but Labrador and golden retrievers are among the most vulnerable. Not many pet owners know about the symptoms and causes of diarrhea in goldens, as most of them are quite subtle and easy to ignore. But if your dog suffers from this disorder at some point, you will have to first find out the root cause before attempting to treat them. Now, if you truly care about your furry pal, this is the information you will want to have at your fingertips. Diarrhea In Dogs: Definition Like with most animals, diarrhea in dogs generally takes the form of loose or unformed stools. Sometimes this could happen in large amounts and so often. Treatment and healing time depends on the cause. If the illness causing the diarrhea is life-threatening, your dog will need advanced treatment and more time to heal. For more minor health conditions, treatment is often simple and quick—in fact, sometimes even home remedies work. The most important thing you should do in either situation is to begin treatment early. This will save your furry pal from suffering from severe dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and many other conditions that could worsen the situation. Like I touched on earlier, both labrador and golden retrievers are uniquely prone to diarrhea. A popular culprit is their almost uncontrollable appetite. Ingesting these kinds of foods and objects will usually lead to diarrhea. Expect the same when your dog swims in still waters by the roadside or a shallow stream. Such waters are full of bacteria, and so when your dog drinks some of it, diarrhea becomes inevitable. While this is usually the main culprit of diarrhea in golden retrievers, there are still plenty of other causes. Causes Of Diarrhea: Food Sensitivities Golden retrievers are one of many breeds that are especially prone to allergies. And guess what tops the list of allergens? Beef and chicken! If your dog is allergic to one or both of these foods, you will want to avoid them if your dog seems to have recurrent diarrhea. Causes Of Diarrhea: Diet Changes This is not just limited to humans; dogs too suffer stomach upsets and sudden diarrhea when you suddenly change their diet, say from a high protein to a fat-rich diet. Instead, gradually introduce new foods to their diet in small amounts. Causes Of Diarrhea: Infections Infections in dogs are mostly caused by viruses, with the most common ones being parvovirus , coronavirus, and distemper. Infections could also be parasitic, fungal, or bacterial. In most cases, they develop into diarrhea, alongside other unpleasant and often painful conditions. Most types of infections will need to be treated with medications prescribed by a veterinarian. Causes Of Diarrhea: Toxins Various foods and other substances are toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. Most have been linked with diarrhea in dogs, particularly those found in human foods and drugs. Some of the most common are: Chocolate, Sometimes puppy diarrhea in Golden Retrievers as with any breed can be acute and serious. However, often puppy diarrhea is little more than an inconvenience to the family and is easily treated at home. Loose stools sabotage house-training efforts at best. At worst, they can be a symptom of a life-threatening illness such as Parvo or Distemper. Diarrhea is a common reason for vet visits in all breeds. Golden Retriever puppies are no exception. Serious Puppy Diarrhea For serious cases of diarrhea, you need to consult a vet. If your puppy is vomiting or acting lethargic or sick, you need to get him to a vet. Likewise, if your puppy has a fever over .Puppies can dehydrate fairly quickly with severe cases of diarrhea. Make sure your puppy stays hydrated. Serious cases of diarrhea can be dangerous and are beyond the scope of this article. However, if your puppy is acting normally other than having loose stools or diarrhea, then this article might be a help. Common Causes Easily Treated With Medicine Giardia, coccidia, and worms are fairly common causes of diarrhea that are easily treated with medicine. Many young puppies raised in kennel settings struggle with these problems. All breeders even those raising very few puppies in a home setting will occasionally experience one of these conditions. Puppies can also contract these conditions after getting into new homes. Your veterinarian can test for these problems with a simple fecal exam. Reoccurring Puppy Diarrhea Recurring diarrhea in puppies is a very common problem. This works because antibiotics will take care of any excess bacteria in the digestive tract and the specialty foods have a lot of fiber. There are good solutions without sacrificing good nutrition for most of these problems. If treated correctly to begin with, these problems should not become chronic. There are three major causes of diarrhea that we will be discussing. Over-feeding, a lack of adequate fiber in the diet, and overgrowths of bacteria in the digestive tract can all cause recurring puppy diarrhea if not handled correctly. However, we argue that there does not need to be such an extreme change of diet as some vets recommend. Overfeeding Most dogs and especially puppies will get loose stools when they are over-fed. Usually, stools caused by overeating look like cow patties. When we have a female nursing a large litter of puppies, we intentionally feed them far more than they are accustomed to in order to keep weight on them. All of them will have cow patty type poop while we are heavily feeding them. Their poop returns to normal when the feeding returns to normal. Even adults struggle to maintain normal poop when they are overfed. Overfeeding puppies will have an even stronger impact. We have had families with our puppies call us reporting that their puppy has begun having chronically loose poop. The first questions we ask are about what the poop looks like and the weight of the puppy. If the puppy is over the weight ranges in our growth chart , the puppy is having loose cow patty looking poop, and the puppy is acting normally in other ways, the culprit is almost certainly too much food. There are too many breeds to keep up with normal weights for all breeds at all ages. Check with a reputable breeder who knows your breed to determine normal growth rates. Also, consider that various lines within breeds can grow at different rates. Another very important fact to keep in mind is that unlike people, dogs will grow too fast before they will grow fat. Dogs especially puppies do not always look fat when they are being overfed. In fact, unless they are grossly overfed, they usually appear normal to the untrained eye until they are an adult. Sensitive stomach foods ARE easier on the digestive tract, but this is a case where these foods are not necessary. See Our Page on How Much to Feed Once a family with a puppy who is growing too fast cuts back on the food, the poop will return to normal. Also see our page on and How Much to Feed your Golden Retriever Puppy for more information on how puppies should be growing. It is often difficult to ascertain if a puppy is growing too fast without having good breed information. Always consider the possibility of over-feeding if your puppy begins to consistently put out poop that looks like cow patties. Sometime close to a year of age most Golden Retrievers have a significant decrease in caloric needs as growth slows down. For some dogs, this slow down comes earlier. Not Enough Fiber A second very common cause of frequent loose poop and diarrhea is an inadequate amount of fiber in the dog food. Many puppies cannot tolerate rich foods especially grain-free foods until they are older and have more mature digestive systems. Many puppies and dogs need SOME grain in their food in order to maintain firm poop for life. Give about two tablespoons for a pound Golden Retriever. Puppies and 5 Star High Protein Dog Foods In our early years of breeding, we were committed to feeding the very best puppy foods to our puppies. We still have the same commitment. However, we have learned quite a bit about which foods actually are the very best. Anyway, for several years, we started our puppies on several of the most expensive foods on the market. Then, we used Acana before they changed their formula and moved their facility out of Canada. With almost every litter, there was at least one puppy that struggled with loose stools. To combat the stools, we added fiber either rice or pumpkin and the problem resolved. We decided to try a food with a little grain. We were pleasantly surprised that our puppies did much better on foods with some grain. Higher levels of meat protein are healthy for dogs. Dogs were created to eat meat. The higher the protein, the more loose poop you will see. However, higher amounts of meat protein also make a food more nutritious. You must feed the right balance of protein and fiber. When we started feeding TLC to our puppies, we had virtually no loose stools except for the very occasional bacterial overgrowth that is discussed in the next section. See our page on How to Choose a Dog Food for information on how to choose a food that has adequate fiber without sacrificing on good nutrition. If changing foods, make sure you scroll down to read the section on how to change foods. Having firm poop is important. However, it is even more important that you not sacrifice on good nutrition. They are very similar. There are only two differences between the puppy food and the adult food. The first difference is that the puppy food has a little bit more protein and a little less grain. The second difference is that the adult food has glucosamine. For the purposes of controlling loose stools, the additional grain in the dog food is all that matters. These foods fix the loose poop because they are low in protein and high in fiber. These veterinary diets are fortified with the necessary vitamins because most of the primary ingredients have little intrinsic nutritional value of their own. Sensitive stomach foods can be a good temporary fix, but there is no reason to leave most puppies or dogs on such a food for life. Look for a food with SOME grain for the long term. However, it is highly unlikely that it is necessary to keep your dog on an extremely high fiber, low protein specialty diet for life. Dogs that are fed the same food on a daily basis will probably not have the correct kind of good bacteria in their gut to properly digest a brand new food. They need to be acclimated to the new food gradually over a few days instead of having an abrupt change. Adding probiotics will also make the food change go smoother and quicker if need be. Take it slow. Bacterial Overgrowth A third common cause of puppy diarrhea is bacterial overgrowth. All puppies and dogs have bacteria in their digestive track to some degree. A good immune system will keep these bacteria under control. However, bacteria will tend to overgrow in puppies and even in dogs in at least three different common conditions: when a dog is under stress, when he is habitually eating junk, or when he has a poor or immature immune system. Unfortunately, puppies often meet all three conditions, especially when first changing homes. Stress A very common cause of bacterial overgrowth is stress. Some of our dogs have had this type diarrhea occasionally when they first start going to dog shows. However, once we return home, the diarrhea goes away on its own and the more shows dogs go to the less likely they are to experience the accompanying diarrhea. It is also common for some puppies to experience diarrhea when first changing homes. Our socialization program at Summer Brook is so intensive that we have very few that experience diarrhea shortly after leaving us. However, if you have a puppy who started having diarrhea right after getting in your home, it very well could be that stress is causing an overgrowth of bacteria. Weakened or Immature Immune System The second cause of bacterial overgrowth is a weakened or immature immune system. Dogs who have been over-vaccinated or neutered early or fed a poor diet will be more likely to have weak immune systems. In addition, it takes time for young puppies to develop strong immune systems. However, with good care from a human family, immune systems will gradually get stronger. See our pages on Puppy Care for more information on how to build a strong immune system. Along with all the junk that puppies sometimes eat, there is going to be bacteria. As puppies get older, their immune system will take care of it and the gut bacteria will stay in check. You might also need to occasionally give your puppy a MILD antibiotic. However, we do not let diarrhea go on for more than a couple of days. Tylan If after two days, diarrhea is continuing, we like to use Tylan for bacterial overgrowth in puppies. If given early before diarrhea gets out of control, Tylan will get the bacteria back under control after the first dose. There is no need to continue giving the Tylan after the problem is resolved unlike with other antibiotics for other problems. You need to merely give your puppy a little help in controlling the bacteria. You can give it twice a day if necessary. Most veterinarians recommend Metronidazole Metro for short for these types of issues. However, we think that Metro is an overkill and is stronger than necessary. Tylan used to be sold over the counter until around or .It is a very safe antibiotics that is even prescribed for long periods of time for chronic problems. We are definitely not advocating long-term use of Tylan, but are merely pointing out its safety. Tylan has also been used to stop tear staining in small breeds with white coats. If it can safely be used over long periods of time without side effects for many dogs, I feel much more comfortable using it for occasional loose stools than I do in using Metro. Metro works, but so does Tylan. Probiotics Whenever giving antibiotics to dogs or to people for that matter , give a probiotic along with the antibiotic. The good bacteria in a healthy digestive tract is necessary for the proper digestion of the food. It is actually best to give the probiotic a few hours after giving the antibiotic. However, giving them together is better than not at all. We use and recommend Natures Farmacy Digestive Enhancer. Final Thoughts I am not a veterinarian, so please consult your own vet. Tylan works. Adequate amounts of fiber works. Permanent use of high fiber, low protein diets is seldom necessary. If treated before problems get bad, strong antibiotics will rarely be needed either. Dogs currently available MERLIN 2 yrs male lurcher Stunning Merlin needs and experienced and dedicated new family who will devote all the time and training he needs. Merlin is a very sweet but energetic boy. He needs someone home with him most of the time and does not enjoy being crated. Merlin will need a secure garden where he can run. Merlin craves attention and will be a very loyl and loving boy to a family who show him that they will always be there for him. He needs training in all aspects. But does walk quite well on his lead. Merlin just needs someone willing to invest some time into him settling in their home and who wont leave him for long periods. A stunning boy for the right family. Button boots 11mth male lurcher x collie Very excitable and friendly young Boots needs an experienced new family who are able to give him all the training he needs. He is a typical youngster with a short attention span who is giddy and excitable. He loves attention and will look to his human for guidance and support. He has shown no issues with the other dogs but any resident dog will need to match his energy levels. He needs training in all aspects including lead walking. Boots does not recognise personal space and will jump for attention so we would prefer no children under 14 This young dog has a lot of love to give to a family who can work with him. His ideal home will need to be active with someone around most of the time where he can get the training he needs and the attention he craves. She can be quite independent and needs you to work to hold her attention. She is friendly with people and hasn't shown any reaction to the other dogs. She is strong on her lead and does pull so this will need to be worked on. Ruby likes toys but looses interest if you don't play with her. She does jump up to take toys etc so again training will be needed to rectify this. She does know some basic commands. She loves human interaction and isn't interested in treats or toys. She can be picky about which dogs she wants to interact with. A large secure garden is essential. She does pull on her lead when excited but calms down and walks quite well. Neena needs an adult only family or children over 15 due to her size and jumping up which she does when excited. She needs training in most things but is a nice natured dog. She isnt a needy dog so can be quite independent. Her favourite thing to do is run. So a large secure garden would be beneficial or access to a secure field. Ruby is gentle and motivated with food and treats so training should be achievable. We would recommend no small children due to Ruby's love of running and lack of spacial awareness. Ruby likes attention but isn't a cuddly dog. Arnold is our gentle giant who needs an experienced new family who have the knowledge to offer him the training he needs and the strength to work with him. Arnold is gentle with people and adores attention. He does not like his ears touching probably due to the horrendous cropping done to them by someone. He takes food and treats very gently and hasn't shown any issues with other dogs he has met. He just wants to play. He is however very strong on his lead and does not like cats or small animals. We would prefer no children under 14 due to his size. He knows some basic commands sit, paw and stay and loves to be rewarded with treats. He does pull on his lead so this will need working on. He has shown no reaction to other dogs except wanting to play. He loves toys and chasing games. A lovely happy friendly biy who just needs the right family. View more procedural update During the Covid pandemic we implemented some new safety measures for the protection of our staff and members of the public visiting us. Due to these measures we have found the dogs are happiest when members of the public are not walking through the kennels choosing a dog. Therefore we will maintain some of those measures. Appointments are required for adoption, and we will no longer be accepting walk ins. You need to call us when you have seen a dog you are interested in either here on our website or on our face book page Cliffe Kennels Rescue dogs and you will be invited for a viewing if we feel that your circumstances match the needs of the dog you have chosen. Pre-adoption paperwork will be completed on arrival. If invited to the kennels you must arrive on time for your appointment and please notify us if you cannot attend so we can offer the appointment and dog to others who are interested. Do not arrive at the kennels without an appointment. Our appointments are generally between 12 and 3. See our Privacy Notice Dozens of Labrador puppies have arrived at an animal rescue centre in one week and are now looking for forever homes. Many Tears Animal Rescue in Cefneithin, Carmarthenshire, welcomed the 57 dogs who were to become working service animals seeking illegal drugs and explosives. Instead, the enthusiastic and clever dogs now need to find their forever homes. As reported by WalesOnline , Many Tears owner Sylvia Van Atta said: "They all came from somebody with a contract to look after dogs going to be trained as bomb or drug dogs. They are dogs that want to be doing something. So they are ok to be pets, but they need someone who will throw balls, who will stimulate them. Here are some of the bouncy 57 Labradors at Many Tears who are now seeking forever homes Image: Many Tears Animal Rescue Many Tears is also inviting people to contribute towards the cost of their care. Anyone wanting to meet the labs can do so during the centre's showarounds on weekdays at midday, and at 11am on weekends. They will all be available for adoption at the Many Tears website. Think of this first leash as an all-purpose leash that you can use for taking your puppy out to go potty, to the vet, etc. Cross-body leash The cross-body leash has been a game changer for our family! We used this style of leash to keep our puppy close to us while inside our home. For example, there are times when you need to be hands-free while keeping your inquisitive puppy nearby and out of trouble. The cross-body leash makes this possible! Goldendoodle puppy supplies for mealtime happiness 7. Then ask your veterinarian about the quality of the food and whether you will need to make a switch. If your puppy needs to transition away from the current puppy food to another formula, your vet will outline how to transition slowly to avoid tummy upset. Stainless steel food and water bowls We like stainless steel bowls because they are durable and resistant to bacteria. Measuring cup or kitchen food scale A measuring cup might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of puppy supplies. I want to do everything in my power to help them live their best lives—way beyond the average lifespan for a Goldendoodle. Just by keeping our dogs at their ideal weight, they can live up to two years longer! Training treats Goldendoodle puppies are eager to learn and eager to please you. Training treats are essential for teaching your puppy…positively. We like treats that are small, soft, made in the USA, and have very few ingredients. If you have any questions about which treats are right for your Goldendoodle puppy, talk with your vet at the first puppy wellness visit. Puppy shampoo and conditioner Puppies and dogs need a shampoo formulated especially for canines. Soft bristled dog brush When your Goldendoodle is a puppy, the goal of brushing is simply to help your Goldendoodle puppy get used to the concept, experience the feel of brushing, and make it fun. Since it is less about the brush itself and more about the act of brushing, just having a soft bristled brush on hand will work. Steel pet grooming comb It seems like brushes take center stage when pet parents think about grooming. But a good comb is equally as important. We love the Andis steel comb. As you can see in the photos below, I use this comb for both our adult Goldendoodle and also for our Goldendoodle puppy. Yes, the same one. It was a game changer for me. I recommend it after your puppy begins the Goldendoodle puppy coat transition. Both have been a game changer for happier nail trims. If you accidentally clip the quick the blood and nerve supply of the toenail , styptic powder helps control the bleeding. Dog grooming table If you decide to groom your Goldendoodle at home, a dog grooming table makes it so much easier. But I wanted to put it on your radar. We purchased the Flying Pig Grooming Table and have loved it! On our trip home with our Goldendoodle puppy, we used the puppy wipes to clean her paws after each potty break. Goldendoodle puppy supplies for potty time Your puppy will have accidents in your home. Cleaning up after an accident with an enzymatic cleaner makes it less likely that your puppy will sniff out the urine smell and want to return to the same spot. Over time, she started ringing the bell herself. It really does make picking up the poo in the yard easier. Paper towels and bath towels Yes, these are staples for puppies…because poop, pee, and muddy dog paws happen. Poopy bags Stick a few in your pocket so they are always handy. Our motto? Safety first and happiness will follow! Puppy chew toys The Kong puppy binky has been a huge hit for our F1 Goldendoodle puppy, the newest member of our pack. The soft rubber allows her to get a good grip with her puppy teeth. Keep the binky for the youngsters only. Puppy fetch balls The question for many Goldendoodle parents is not whether to buy a fetch ball , but how many! We have many fetch balls, but a couple of stand outs are the Chuckit Breathe Right ball and the Playology scented ball. Treat dispensing dog ball or toy A treat dispensing toy is a great way to slow down mealtime for your puppy. The Bob-A-Lot tops our list of interactive food dispensing toys. Puppy-sized classic Kong toy There is a reason that Kong dog toys are staples in many households—ours included! Kong toys are durable, easy to fill with a puppy treat, and most puppies love them! The Classic Kong Puppy Toy shown below is designed for puppies and made from a softer version of the Classic Kong rubber. Puppy gate Goldendoodle puppies are very curious. You may want to place puppy gates or baby gates around your home to minimize the places where your puppy can explore. Always supervise your puppy and make sure gates are puppy safe and securely fastened. For our Goldendoodle puppy, we purchased two. A dog first aid kit is part of that philosophy and a common sense item to have in your home. Pet insurance There are many different points of view about pet insurance. Puppy ID tag No one wants to think about a new puppy getting lost. But if the worst happens, having a puppy ID tag with your contact information on it could be a lifesaver. You can find a wide variety of puppy ID tags that can be personalized on Amazon. Additionally, you can talk with your vet about microchipping your puppy. Animal poison control phone number Accidents can happen so quickly. Now is a great time to add a pet poison control phone number to your contacts list on your phone. A name as perfect as your Goldendoodle puppy Now that you have a good start on what to buy your puppy, you may be ready to think about what to name your sweet Goldendoodle. To make shopping easier, print out this list and check each item off as you make your purchases. Things we recommend when preparing for your goldendoodle puppy Food All of our puppies are on Royal canin med size puppy food, we transition them to Royal canin med adult food at 1 year of age. Theese are a few of our favorites! Lean treats that you get from your vet. Crates We highly recommend crate training. We like the black metal crates with a front and side door. We consider the side door a must, the crate can go so many more places in the house and car. A collar puts pressure on their developing tracheas. Here are a few that we have found that are great and long lasting! Red or black Kong - not the pink or blue that says it's for puppies - they can chew them up in no time. We put peanut butter in the Kong and give it to them in their crates; they love it! Nylabones - These are great when they are really teething, and even our older dogs like to chew on them. We have found the Dinosaur one to be a favorite for both Puppies and Adults! The Just for puppies ring bone dog teething chew toy is also a puppy favorite Chuckit - for playing ball. These are awesome! If you get a medium size, any tennis ball will fit! Just don't let your puppy have the tennis ball to chew on, it will wear down their teeth. Go Dog has fun soft toys, we aways get the ones with the chew guard! Brush The Soft Slicker brush by Safari is great for puppies, as they get older and their coat gets longer the Chris Christianson slicker brush works great! The best way to make sure your Doodle isnt matted is a metal comb. You can find it on Amazon or at a farm feed store. DVD Because our puppies are raised with the puppy culture program and come to you happy, confident, and ready to learn, we ask that all our families who get one of our puppies also watch the puppy culture dvd or vod so you can follow along with what the puppies are learning and continue it after you get your puppy home. For Heartworms Your vet will have their recommendations; but if given a choice we use heartgard or sentinel. We would NOT use trifexis as it has many side affects. We also do not recommend Lepto vaccine for puppies. Find the Rest of Our Reccomendations in the link below. Cart Puppy Shopping Checklist Below are some of the items you should consider when preparing for your new Moss Creek Goldendoodle puppy. You will not need everything listed before your puppy arrives - this list is intended to help you consider all your puppy's basic needs. You can print this and take it with you when you are shopping for your new puppy. General Paper towels - a lot of paper towels. Then use old towels. Once puppy is reliably crate trained, a "real" crate bed can be used. Old Blanket or Towel s to cover wire Crate. Acrylic Fake Nail file, cardboard with sandpaper type, for smoothing nails, if desired. Hydrogen Peroxide - to induce vomiting, if necessary. Baby Gate s - Try baby supply stores and Target - generally more choices and cheaper than pet stores Beware that horizontal bars provide a foot-hold for climbing puppies. Also consider spacing between bars, as some times it is large enough for little puppies to get caught. Storage bin for dry food - air tight. Poop Scooper I. Tag - See boomerangtags. They also sell collars with tags included for the smaller sized dogs. You can also make them yourself at PetSmart or PetCo. Wire Crate for crate training - Double door folding crate with divider. Check out the Crate Shopping page for the crate we use and recommend. Medium - Standard sized Goldendoodles need at least a 42 inch crate - If you have room, get the 48 inch. Doodles sleep stretched out like frogs. They like a lot of room to be comfortable. Small Doodles can use a 36 inch crate. This will work for them for several months. Smaller for mini-small Goldendoodle puppies. Food and water bowls stainless steel or ceramic, no plastic. Waste Bags Poochie-Bells to hang by back door. Helps with house training - they learn to ring the bell to alert you that they need to go out. I highly recommend them for house training your new puppy. Nutrition is incredibly important for our puppies, and we want to make sure that we are in compliance with current, science-based recommendations. Read more about this Food on our Puppy Food page. Your puppy will start them at 6 weeks old. You cannot purchase these at the pet store, you will need to order them online. Visit our NuVet Vitamin page to order online or call order code - .Shop NuVet Vitamins Chews, Treats and Toys Puppies don't need a lot of treats for the first month until they are about 12 weeks old - treats can upset their stomachs and cause diarrhea. It's best to treat them with pieces of their dog food and lots of praise. Contact Recommended Puppy Supplies We suggest Amazon or PawTree for online purchasing of your supplies, they are almost always cheaper than the box stores! For more recommendations on food, treats, potty training, and toys visit our Nutrition page. While you do not need a bed right away I do recommend getting a nice pad or elevated dog bed for training purposes, we regularly use pads or elevated beds for training, and for placing our dogs and puppies, we keep ours in the main area of our home to place our dogs when people come over, during dinner, etc. We recommend getting one with a divider that can be adjusted, it will make crate training easier when your puppy first comes home and will prevent you from having to buy multiple crates. You can purchase a nice pad or cushion for the crate but we do not recommend using it inside of the crate until you are sure they will not have accidents in the crate until then use a towel or small blanket that is easier to wash! Single Door Dog Crate Durable heavy-duty slide bolt latch firmly locks the door to keep your dog safely inside while you're away. Photo outfit ideas, wedding planning tips and more. All my best advice. I spent hours reading about the best treats, toys, gear for puppies so that we had everything for our little guy before he arrived. As we are gearing up for my sister-in-law and aunt to bring home their new goldendoodle puppies, I thought a little blog post about my favorite things would be helpful to all the puppy parents and the soon-to-be puppy parents out there. Here is my must-have list for your goldendoodle puppy! We kept Clifton in here at night and when we would leave the house. This one fits perfectly with the crate. We used these to create a safe little area for Clifton once we stopped crate training him to be in. This clips right into the seat belt and on to any harness. This spray helps prevent your dog from chewing on things like your furniture, shoes, etc. You will be using this spray every time there is an accident in the house those first few weeks. We still use this spray 5 years later. Harness : We recently purchased this harness , and we LOVE this one and would recommend this to anyone with a pup as this harness is a little trickier to wiggle out of. Clifton has a medium he weighs about 30 pounds. Collar : We have a bunch of different collars that we switch between, but I love this cognac leather collar for every day. We have this one , and as soon as we switched to this, Clifton walked so much better and stopped pulling. Some of my current favorites are this modern set which is great because it includes a stand. Did You Feed the Dog? I love the smell of it. John Paul Pet Lavender Mint Detangling Spray : Doodles get matted super easily, so we add this detangling spray into our grooming routine to help with the matting. Andis Pet Steel Comb : If you can keep your furbaby mat-free this comb is great for combing him or her out. Safari Dematting Comb : You are going to need a de-matting comb to helpwith matting especially as your puppy gets older. It is the best thing we have bought, and we use it all the time. Start doing this when they are little. We love this little set that includes the toothpaste, brush and finger brush. Towel : We keep two of these pet towels in the bathroom where we give Clifton a bath. They are great at absorbing the water after a bath. We also pack these when we take him to the dog beach or Florida. Mushers Secret Paw Wax : If your pup lives in a cold climate, this is perfect for their dry, cracked paws that will come in winter. Shopping for toys was one of my favorite parts when I first started shopping for Clifton. My advice is not to buy too many toys at first like I did. Your puppy is going to destroy those cute, stuffed animals quickly. Grab a few because they make for some cute photos and toys around the house, but also stock up on things that will help when they need to chew. One thing to keep in mind when getting toys is to avoid any rope toys. Pups can eat the strings and have them wrap around their intestines — which is NOT good. So just skip them altogether. It is supposed to help transition them because it has a battery heartbeat and a pouch to make it warm. If you can, ask the breeder to rub it on his mom or the other puppies so it smells like them. This will be a place for them to sleep and relax. Make sure that this bed is big enough for your Goldendoodle to sleep on. As a puppy, your Goldendoodle may chew on their bed and blankets. Make sure to get a bed that is made of out tough material but is soft enough for them to want to sleep on. As your Goldendoodle gets older , you may want to transition them to an orthopedic dog bed. These beds would not be a bad choice for a puppy either. Most dogs love the plush sides to rest their head. This bed is waterproof, which is great for those puppies learning to potty train. This bed is very comfy and is made of memory foam, which is a plus for older Goldendoodles. Check Price Food and Water Bowls As soon as you get your Goldendoodle home, they will need to have food and water available. There are many different size and shape food bowls that you can get for your Goldendoodle puppy. There are even pet water fountains to keep your Goldendoodle entertained while drinking water. This is a very personal preference. When looking for a food and water bowl, also look at your new puppies eating style. Many people will let their Goldendoodle eat out of Tupperware for a few days until they know if they have a dog that is constantly moving the bowl around the house or one that eats very fast. If your dog is moving the bowl around the house, consider a bowl with a rubber bottom to help it stay in place more. Stainless steel bowls are great for cleaning but may be strange for your puppy to eat out of. If your pup is eating their food very fast, consider a puzzle bowl. This bowl is designed for them to have to eat around different parts until they finish their meal. If your dog eats very fast, they are prone to vomiting shortly after eating or even Bloat. Your Puppy's New Home 1. Foldable Wire Crate I recommend a wire-sided crate with a removable tray and adjustable divider. This encourages pottying outside. This pen should be helpful for the first several months. Puppy Toys Each of these items are in my personal inventory for puppy families to purchase when they pick up their puppy! But for now, beside your bed is the best place for your puppy to sleep — it will help them feel safe. Puppies like their crates rather cave-like; we suggest covering it with a blanket to block out light, but keep the front open so that they can see outwards. Make sure to make it snug inside with something like a vet bed or a blanket, or why not take it up a notch with a heat pad or hot water bottle to recreate the feeling of their mother. Nothing feels more comforting than that. Before you head to bed, take your puppy out for one last round of loo-going. Set your bedtime at a later time too — midnight sounds about right. Come back calmly, and place your puppy in the crate and turn out the light. Stuff you should know about Sleep Training your Labrador Your puppy will wake up several times in the night and will need the bathroom at least once! Be prepared for not-so-deep sleeps and tired mornings — just for the first few weeks. Having them sleep next to you is only temporary. Consistency is key! As for you, full nights of sleep will start getting closer and closer. Alone Training How can I teach my Labrador puppy to be ok on their own? Start by feeding your puppy in their crate during meal times. If they seem worried by you leaving, stay in view, and just pop right outside their confinement area. Keep it short and sweet: No need to stay away for long, 60 seconds tops will do for now. Repeat: Do this at least once a day to make progress go steady and smoothly. Socialization Exercises To Do this week Letting your Labrador puppy explore the yard Besides the gnomes and questionable yard furniture you may have, letting your puppy explore your own yard is a great and safe way to start showing them the sounds, lights and wonders of the outside world. Exploring different surfaces exercise Make sure that the surfaces you use are safe — nothing too crazy just yet. Gather surfaces such as An oven tray with a small layer of water A piece of astro turf A carpet tile A large piece of tin foil, cardboard or something crinkly PRO TIP: Set up for this exercise in the room your puppy spends most of their time in — it will help them to feel safe and confident. Pop the surfaces out safely on the floor and allow your puppy to investigate them. Nobody has ever enjoyed walking on those. Remember to be patient! Lucky for you — teaching them their name is easy peasy. Say their name in a happy jolly tone and reward with a treat. Repeat five times, 5 and take a break. Practice this 2 or 3 times a day so they get the hang of it. Teach your puppy to sit Teaching your puppy how to sit is a popular one. The first two are far more common though. Keep using this word when they do the right thing, and then follow it up with a food reward. In puppy logic, stinky means yummy. How to do it Start at home; where there are no distractions. Just make sure to shut off Gogglebox in the background. Recall — How to teach our Labrador puppy to come back when called Your puppy already knows their name at this point, so this should be a walk in the park. How to do it Treats and a cheerful voice will be what works here. Do these exercises before meal times so your puppy is more motivated. Practice this 5 times a day and in 3 different places in your house and yard to get them used to coming to you in all settings. How to do it Show your puppy that you have their favorite toy, and start to get them excited about it. When they show interest, throw it a little bit away from you. They will likely follow it and pick it up. If they do, encourage them back to you with your voice, so remember to sound happy! Swap the toy for a treat or another toy and do the process again. Repeat this about 5 times. Instead create more distance and excitement sounds to get them to come to you — spaniels like to show off, so they will likely want to parade what they have! Always swap the toy for something when they have it, this could be a treat or another toy. Resource guarding occurs when we force puppies to give up items or snatch things out of their mouths. For breeds like Labradors who are designed to want to hold things in their mouths, this is pretty important! Resource guarding is when a dog protects a resource from being taken by someone else — dog or human. For some reason, there is a solid list of things puppies find irresistible: Socks. Gundog expert Jayne Coley summarises the early training routine that she followed with her own young labrador, Trade. Register for our newsletter To continue reading this content please register for our newsletter. You have to adapt your training to suit the type of puppy you have. The steps below summarise the training routine that I have followed with my young dog, Trade, who has an easy-going temperament. I began to train him properly in the New Year when he was 9 — 10 months old, though I usually wait until the shooting season is over when I have time to do a little each day on a regular basis. Step 1: Foundations By the age of 9 — 10 months, Trade had been toilet trained, knew his name and came back when I called him. He had been well socialised and behaved in company on a lead, was used to going out in my vehicle and had learned to swim. Trade has never been chastised for carrying something he should not, e. I then place the item out of reach. Crucially, by this age we had built up a good bond before formal training began. Step 2: Heelwork It was so wet and muddy at home so I started training on the patio and in our yard where the pup is restricted to a certain area and there are no distractions. We began with heelwork on the lead. To keep the exercise interesting, I walked in straight lines, did figures of eight, included the occasional tight turn and altered my pace. This all helped to keep Trade focused on what we were doing. If he didn't sit immediately, I repeated the command whilst pushing his bottom down with my left hand. Once confident with this routine, I put a lightweight collar on him and progressed to walking to heel off the lead, using my hands to encourage him to keep his head up and concentrate on me, when necessary. If he did move, I calmly walked up to him and, holding his collar, took him back to the exact spot he moved from in a quiet but positive manner. I slowly built up the distance until I could walk around him in a huge circle. Once he did this perfectly, I introduced the recall. Instead of always walking back to him, I would call him back to me, encouraging him to come straight to my hands which were cupped gently in front of my hips. Once I was happy with this, I began to mix up heelwork with sit and stay, and recall. When he didn't move, I quietly picked the dummy up myself. Gradually — over several days — I built on this until I could throw a couple of dummies, one at a time, over and around him and he remained steady. It is always important to lift the pup's top lip out of the way when you put a dummy in his mouth. Trade was reluctant to do this at first, but with patience and perseverance over several days, he accepted it. Slowly, I built on this until I could walk away backwards the length of the lead and call him to me, concentrating on perfecting a good delivery, using my hands to encourage him to bring the dummy right to me with his head held nice and high. Step 6: Retrieving Next, we worked on being sent for a retrieve. I then bent down and pointed my right hand towards the dummy whilst looking at the top of his head to make sure he was looking past my hand at it, before saying his name positively and at the same time letting go of one end of the lead so that he instinctively ran forward and picked the dummy. Initially, I sat back on my heels, which encouraged him to run straight back to me. Slowly we built on this until the lead was no longer needed. Sometimes I would send him for the dummy, sometimes I'd pick it up myself, or I'd walk him to heel in the opposite direction before sending him. On other occasions, I would stand well back from Trade and throw a dummy over his head, call him to me and then send him for the dummy from my position. I like to vary things as this keeps him interested and wondering what I am going to do next. He was at first a little unsure, so I repeated it in a lighter tone, to which he responded. In return, I praised him quietly. Always remember, training a dog is like building a house — it is imperative that the foundations are put down properly, otherwise, sooner or later, cracks will appear. Keep it light and encouraging when you praise, and low and gruff when you scold, so your puppy knows the difference. Especially if you have a boisterous puppy. Keep everything calm and relaxed, and do things in your time. Print Early obedience first step to better hunting dog Labrador puppies start out sweet and innocent. All you want to do is cuddle up with your pup and love them! And you should! But rest assured the innocence will not last. As your pup gains confidence and courage, they will begin to test you in many ways. That is why you must obedience train your Labrador puppy. Early obedience training is key to establishing borders and boundaries that will help your puppy grow, learn, and adjust with a good attitude. There is no shortcut to doing this, just use the name often when you talk to your puppy. Over time, the pup will start to respond to the name. Socialization, while not technically obedience training, is the single most important thing you can teach your puppy during the first few months of life. If you are not sure how to do this, refer to this post. Tools needed to obedience train Labrador puppy You will need a few tools to teach your puppy obedience. The products I recommend I believe are a good value or good investment for anyone working to train or maintain training on their retriever. When possible, I include links to the product. Some of these links may be Amazon or other affiliate links in which I am paid a small commission at no cost to you. All opinions and recommendations are my own. Collar — You should purchase a size appropriate collar for your new puppy. You may have to buy new ones as your dog grows, but it is important for your puppy to get used to wearing a collar early on. A simple nylon adjustable collar works great. Chain collar — If your puppy is more than a few months old, a chain or prong collar is extremely helpful in teaching obedience, but they must be used correctly. For more information on how to put a chain collar on your dog correctly refer to this video. A longer lead, called a check cord, is also useful for teaching HERE and retrieving. You can learn more about that here. Heeling stick optional — While optional, a heeling stick can be especially helpful in teaching basic obedience. Treats — Treats are good for teaching very young puppies. I use treats for pups under 12 weeks of age, but treats should be discontinued rather quickly. When to start basic puppy obedience training Obedience training can and should start within the first couple weeks of having your puppy home. Young puppies are ready and willing to learn and teaching obedience to a young puppy is much easier than teaching it to an older dog. How long should obedience sessions be? Most labs do not enjoy obedience training. For this reason, we aim to keep obedience sessions short, especially if your dog is under 4-months of age. Five to ten minutes of obedience a day can work wonders. Especially if you are consistent. Using rewards or praise to teach obedience Many people like to use treats or rewards for obedience training. And this can work, especially with very young dogs. But for hunting dogs, over the long-term treats can become a problem. We do not want our dogs, or the dogs we train to be obedient only because they are getting a food reward. We want them to be obedient because they understand their place in the family and respect the owners. To get these lasting results, we use praise words and petting and a reward that retrievers live for — retrieves! Well-timed praise is a particularly important part of dog training. A message that it is okay to ignore me the first 9 times! This simply means that after a few minutes of formal obedience training, we release the dog with an OKAY command and that means they can run around and be a dog. We then throw a bumper or plug a for the dog to retriever. We do this a few times with a lot of excitement and allow the dog to retrieve the bumper. For retriever breeds, this is often more effective than a food reward. Be careful that you are not letting your puppy get into bad habits with retrieving. For instance, if your puppy often goes out to retrieve the bumper but then runs away with it, or picks it up and drops it, do not continue doing retrieves. While retrieving is a reward for many Labs, it is not an excuse to engage in behaviors that are not going to be acceptable in the field. If you want to learn more about how to properly teach your Lab to retrieve, check out How can I teach my retriever puppy to fetch? Introduction to leash and nylon collar The very first step for any puppy obedience is to introduce your puppy to a regular collar and leash. This should be done in two separate steps, first the collar and then the leash. Introduce the collar by putting a nylon type collar on your puppy. This is normal and you should not react to it. Introducing the leash is a little different. We like to do this outside. After a few sessions of this introduction, you can start holding the leash by the end and walking with the puppy. When the puppy tries to run or walk away, hold tight to the leash, and just let the puppy get used to the resistance. Some puppies have a hard time with this and will growl or whine and whip themselves around at the pressure, but most will not. Remain calm and after a few sessions the puppy should get used to the resistance of the leash. Do not allow the puppy to pull you around. That will make for some bad behaviors that you will need to correct later. If you cannot control your puppy with just a regular collar and leash, you may need to move to a chain or prong collar to keep control. What commands to teach Lab puppy There are only four basic obedience commands that you need to teach your young puppy. Remember when it comes to commands, less is more. OKAY — this is a release command, basically tells your dog were done training, go be a dog. As your puppy grows and learns more, there are some other commands that may be needed, but for puppies I like to start with just the four above. Dog training requires consistency Before you start with obedience training, I want to make a note about the importance of consistency. Obedience training only works if you are consistent. This means that when you say a command, you expect the puppy to perform the command, and are willing to take steps to make the puppy perform the command. If you do not remain consistent in this expectation, you will confuse your dog and get poor results from your training. You and your family must be consistent! How to start obedience training Lab puppy The first command you want to start teaching your puppy is SIT. This is quite easy to teach with a small puppy but gets a little tougher as they get bigger. Then release the puppy with the OKAY command. Repeat this process several times, then stop. If your puppy is weeks old, you can repeat this training several times a day for only a couple minutes at a time. This will be a two-person job for a little while. The other person will put the food down a few feet from the puppy. Then release the puppy to eat saying OKAY. As the pup learns and understands the command better, you will no longer need a second person to hold the puppy. You must be a little careful here because young puppies do not have great bladder control and making them wait, even a few seconds, can mean the difference between an accident and them doing their business outside. But this is a great way to teach impulse control and manners to your puppy. I do not want to have to fight for a position by the door. You can usually start working on this within a week or two of teaching SIT. A great way to teach this command to young puppies is to use two people and sit in a long hallway, one at each end. Take turns calling your puppy with a HERE command. A toy or treat can often help the process. Let your puppy run around a bit but hold onto the end of the cord. Occasionally, call you puppy with a HERE command. It can be helpful at first to crouch down to encourage the puppy to run towards you. Then release the puppy with an OKAY command. Do this a few more times and repeat daily until the puppy is coming to you without you needing to pull the cord. It is also the command most of our clients struggle with the most. Mostly because they are using the wrong tool for the job. For heeling work, it is important that you work with a chain or prong collar. This will give you more control and stop the pulling and surging that many people struggle with. Using a chain or prong collar and a six-foot leash, start walking your puppy at your side. If your puppy is young, be sure to use a puppy chain collar which is smaller than chain collars for adult dogs. And make sure that you are putting it on correctly! An alternate tool to a chain collar and leash is the Wonder or Command Lead. These work great for teaching HEEL. As you start walking use gently tugs on the chain collar with the command HERE to keep your puppy at your side. If your puppy surges or pulls ahead, simply make a degree turn and start walking the other direction giving a sharp, upward tug on the chain collar and saying HEEL several times until the dog is back in a heeling position. Many of our clients have told us they never left their driveway the first few days! But if you are patient and consistent, your dog will quickly learn that if they want to go for a walk, they need to stay at your side. If you want to learn and progress in more obedience work, check out these obedience drills for retrievers. Final thoughts on how to teach your lab puppy obedience Teaching your puppy obedience may take a lot of patience, time and work, but it is such an important thing to do. You will never regret the time! A well-mannered dog is such a joy to be around both in the home and in the field. How to obedience train Labrador puppy. Labrador Retriever pups are working dogs. The answer to that is definitely maybe! Not all purebreds are bred for intelligence. For example, if a Labrador Retriever breeder chooses to breed their dogs for a certain look then they may overlook intelligence as one of the important characteristics in order to get a specific Lab look. We however breed for intelligence, health and temperament. So in our case, yes, our Purebred Lab Puppies are easier to train than many because we choose the parents and their puppies specifically for their smarts!

bulldog puppies ny - The main problem is the marginal response to training by both of the parents. Photo by Mary Swift on Shutterstock Shih-Tzus are quite stubborn and that can make training them a hustle. If you want to achieve something, grant them a lot of attention. On the contrary, Poodles enjoy having their minds and bodies tested so will learn everything there is to know very fast. Your Shih-Poo might not be the best training candidate, especially with dominant Shin-Tzu traits. However, starting the training early and implementing consistency and positive reinforcement will eventually provide results. Their ideal exercise time is approximately half an hour walking daily, possibly in two separate sessions. Sometimes additional exercises can be added if you want them to lose weight. At least an hour of exercise is what can keep your poodle satisfied. This hour can be filled either with intense walking, a game of fetch, or other rousing games. Lack of physical and mental stimulation in Poodles can result in destructive behavior. Excessive barking, digging, and chewing are signs of boredom and excess energy. Obesity can mean that your dog is more of a Poodle in means of exercise and needs to spend time out a lot more. Shih Poos are not inherently aggressive at all. However, as with many small dog breeds, training is often neglected at the expense of a wildly barking and untrained dog. There is no doubt that a Shih-Poo can be madly in love with his family and all life regardless. Whether they are friendly with other animals and people can also reflect their early socialization. Shih-Tzu dogs are very affectionate and there is nothing more they love than following their owners from place to place even the bathroom. They are made to be companion dogs and are generally happy beings. If they think there is something out of the ordinary ex. After the stranger comes in they will be best friends with the dog in a matter of minutes. Poodles strive toward the protective temperament. They are wary of strangers and will let you know that strangers approach their house. A Poodle is an affectionate dog too, but it can take a while to get used to new people, or not get used at all. Without any distraction, they are calm when their family is around. Shih-Tzus are a bit contradictory when it comes to the following leadership. Being stubborn they might decide not to do something or go someplace. In the meantime, they are dependent on their owners and cannot spend a minute without them. When they misbehave if you try to yell at them or punish them will make things even worse because they have very sensitive feelings. Beware of their jealousy especially when you are playing with other pets or children. Provide enough stimulation early in their lives and take the leadership badge. You will need to show you Shih-Poo that you are the leader by using positive reinforcement. Make your dog feel safe around you, give a lot of attention, work on socialization, and no matter what traits are dominant, you will have an obedient furry friend. Health Because of their sensitive skin, Shih-Poos can be prone to skin and ear infections. A contributing factor can be the frequent cases of allergies within the breed. Some bad anatomical formations can produce musculoskeletal abnormalities such as patellar luxation or hip dysplasia. Retained baby teeth, gum disease, and periodontal disease are also a result of anatomical abnormalities in Shih-Tzus. Another hormonal disease Poodles often develop is Diabetes. Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus or simply called bloat is common in deep-chested dogs such as the Poodles. The condition is very serious. You can reduce the risk of developing if you limit exercises after meals and give smaller and frequent portions of food and water. If the Shih-Poo inherits the Shih-Tzu anatomy there is a big chance for the dog to suffer from dysplasia, retained baby teeth, and any other breathing problem brachycephalic dogs have. Both Poodles and Shih Tzus have a life expectancy of around 13 years and Poodles. A Shih-Tzu cross-breed dog can live years. Depending on factors such as genetics, nutrition, and lifestyle dogs of this breed can live even longer. Do Shih Poos Shed? Yes, Shih Poos do shed and there are a lot of varieties of Shih-Poo coats. Some dogs get the straight fur from the Tzu parent while others are curly like their Poodle predecessor. In most cases, the crossbreed will be a combination of both. Shih-Poos have to be brushed daily and groomed on monthly basis. Along with bathing when necessary, you can prevent their coat from getting dry , matted, and irritated. Both Poodles and Shih-Tzus are considered to be hypoallergenic dog breeds. Their hair is less likely to shed and cause allergic reactions in people. An interesting thing about Shih Tzus is the way their hair grows in all directions — this granted them the moniker Chrysanthemum Dog. Regarding color, they can be in all variations and combinations — brindle, black, brown, white. Size Shih Tzu Poodle mixes are usually inches cm and weigh between pounds kg , assuming the dog is crossed with a smaller Poodle. Standard Shih Tzu dogs have an adult height between 8 and 11 inches cm and weigh pounds kg. There is also the Imperial Shih Tzu that can weigh less than 5 pounds 2. In most countries, they are classified as a toy dog breed. Adult Toy Poodle is about 10 inches 25 cm tall with pounds kg of body weight — Standard Poodle stands are 15 inches 38 cm in height and pounds kg weight. There are 4 different types of poodle — toy, miniature, medium, standard. The shelters across the globe are filled with Shih-Tzu and Poodle crosses. Post navigation. Shih poos are a cross between a shih tzu and a toy poodle. While some shih tzu breeders breed a poodle to a shih tzu to create first-generation shih poos, it's also common practice to breed shih poos to one another to create multigenerational dogs. As cross-breeds, shih poos are not an officially recognized breed, and there is no breed standard regarding appearance or temperament. Even shih poo puppies born to the same litter may take after one parent more than the other and appear vastly different in coat texture and coloring, says PetGuide. Shih poos fall in the small to tiny range, typically standing between eight and 18 inches at the withers and weighing anywhere from eight to 18 pounds. Their coat may be long, straight and silky like that of the shih tzu, shorter and curly like that of a poodle or it may fall somewhere in between. Despite the appearance, the shih poo's coat barely sheds, making these dogs a good fit for someone with mild pet allergies. Coloring can take after either parent breed. While poodles have solid coats that are typically black, white, gray, brown or apricot, shih tzu coats may be solid or come in various color patterns and combinations. Shoodle coats may mimic the coloring pattern of either parent. Personality: Often, mixed-breed dogs develop a temperament that balances the qualities of their parent breeds. Shih tzus tend to be highly affectionate and extremely charming, but possess a stubborn streak that can make them difficult to train. Poodles, on the other hand, while equally charming with playful and comedic personalities, are highly intelligent dogs who are more eager to please and easier to train. Shih poos, as a result, are often playful, affectionate and quick-witted little charmers, although they may inherit their shih tzu parent's willfulness. Because of this, they often need a firm but patient guide in training, and might not be the best choice for first-time dog parents. What shih poos may lack in trainability, they more than make up for in love and affection. They love to play with toys and get along wonderfully with older children, although due to their small size and hair that's easy to grab and pull, they should be closely supervised around small children. While friendly and great at getting along well with other pets, especially if introduced as puppies, older shih poos might not love having other dogs around. They often do well as only dogs. Even so, these fluffy pups love being close to their people and don't tolerate being left alone for long periods of time. If work or school takes you away from home for long hours, you may need to consider doggie daycare to keep your shih poo happy. Living With: Shih poos are generally versatile dogs that can do well in small apartments as well as larger homes. They need up to 30 minutes a day of play and exercise, which can be satisfied with two or three short walks each day or minute sessions of vigorous playtime twice daily. The rest of the time, they'll be content to curl up in your lap or to cuddle up next to you on the sofa. Shih poos are highly social and love to be around people, so expect them to stick close as you move around the house. While shih poos tend to be long-lived, with some living 17 years or more, they can be predisposed to the same health problems as their parent breeds. These include allergies, patellar luxation , vision problems and endocrine disorders such as Addison's disease, hypothyroidism and Cushing's disease. Shih poos that inherit the shorter snout of the shih tzu may also be prone to respiratory issues, reverse sneezing and snoring. Extra care should be taken to prevent overheating and heat stroke, says Dogtime. And like many small breeds, these dogs may be prone to dental problems and will benefit from regular dental cleanings and daily tooth brushing. Regardless of the length or texture of your shih poo's coat, it will be thick, fast-growing and prone to matting. Daily brushing and monthly visits to the groomer are recommended to keep the coat under control. Limit baths to a few times a month to prevent the skin from drying out. When bathing, be sure to prevent water from getting in the ear canals to prevent ear infections from developing. Shoodles have healthy appetites and will overeat if given the chance, which will lead to unhealthy weight gain. It's best to keep them on a consistent feeding schedule rather than allowing them to graze on kibble throughout the day. Feed your pup a high-quality food dog formulated for small breeds , and keep treats to a minimum. History: Not much is known about the backstory of the shih poo.
