Our goal is to produce healthy poodles with great temperaments and dispositions in gorgeous colors. We specialize in the original poodle, bred for family dogs and also a variety of beautiful colors and sizes. All of our puppies are raised in our home with our family and very well socialized. Our adult breeding dogs live with us or near us in a guardian home, where they are treated as family members. Hey our names are Ryan and Sommer Schwarz. We were both raised in Utah and grew up loving to explore our state. We have four children from 13 to 6 years old. One of our favorite things to do with our family is travel in our Airstream all over the country. In our extended family we have a total of 10 standard poodles. Meet Diesel. It all begins with him. Diesel is the main man who was Sommers parents first standard poodle. He is the reason why we decided to get into breeding poodles. We found our poodle Bear shortly after Diesel passed away, and we know he helped us find him. He helped our whole extened family in so many ways and changed us all for the better. Diesel was so full love and light for everyone he came in contact with. We hope that someday our poodles will change a families life for the better like Big D did. Miss you forever. Lifespan Sociability Pugs are one of the most sought-after dog breeds in the world, so they come at a high price. Factors like size and facial structure influence this hybrid more than most hybrids since most potential Box-a-Pug owners are looking for Boxer-Pug mixes that have the boxer face with a pug body. Box-a-Pugs might not be easy to find at dog shelters but you can always ask if they have a mixed-breed dog that resembles the Box-a-Pug. They have a protective nature that comes from their Boxer traits, with a surprisingly deep bark for a smaller-sized dog. Box-a-Pugs are Couch Potatoes While Box-a-Pugs can have lots of energy in their younger years, the Pug side mellows out the hyperactivity that comes with most Boxer hybrids. One way to prepare is to look at the temperaments of both the Boxer and the Pug to get a better idea about the possible personality traits your Box-a-Pug may possess. Known as the class clowns of the purebred dog world, Boxers are energetic and athletic dogs that enjoy living life to the fullest. Though they may be silly and goofy, Boxers are quite smart and are great with obedience. Pugs are inquisitive dogs that enjoy spending time with their favorite person. Although their distinctive bossiness can be a handful, their caring and loving nature are what makes them one of the most popular breeds to date. Box-a-Pugs often enjoy quality time with their favorite people, which comes from both purebred personalities. Box-a-Pugs have the potential to be sociable and friendly but will need to be socialized early and frequently to prevent aggressive issues with strangers. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Box-a-Pugs can do well with families that have older children since their smaller size can make them somewhat fragile. Box-a-Pugs crave attention and will love spending time with the family, but they may struggle to keep up with highly active families. However, if properly introduced or raised together with other animals, Box-a-Pugs can do well in households with other pets. We recommend a high-quality, medium-energy dry kibble with fiber to aid with digestion. At a minimum, your Box-a-Pug will need a few brisk walks and some mental stimulation to maintain a healthy mind and body. However, some Box-a-Pugs inherit the high energy level of the Boxer and will need much more than walking to keep them content. If your Box-a-Pug has lots of energy and is cleared for vigorous exercise, consider trying a canine sport to maintain weight and muscle. To avoid serious stubbornness, make sure you take your Box-a-Pug for walks to help relieve some excess energy. Box-a-Pugs can benefit greatly from group obedience classes to help with training and socialization. If you seem to be struggling with your Box-a-Pup, these classes can be a fun confidence booster while also teaching your puppy the basics in obedience. Weekly brushing to help get rid of loose fur and the occasional bath will help reduce the amount of shedding. Boxers tend to shed more in certain seasons, so you should expect your Box-a-Pug to be similar. Both breeds also have other concerns that make their lifespans shorter than other breeds, but Box-a-Pugs seem to have longer lifespans than their purebred counterparts. Females usually live longer than Male Boxer Pugs. Temperament Intelligent, perfect watchdogs, playful, friendly, excellent with children. Knowing what your Boxer Pugs will be like is a gamble, but the breed is known to have some standard features you can expect. Boxers are large dogs, while Pugs are small. While Boxers have a smoother coat than pugs, you still have to give them weekly brushing to keep their coats healthy looking. Boxers only undergo occasional shedding, whereas Pugs regularly shed. Together, a Boxer Cross Pug makes a medium size dog. However, there are some instances when the Boxer mixed with Pug end up being large dogs. You can expect an average life span for your Pug and Boxer Mix of around years. Boxer Pug Cross make family dogs and companion because of their loving and charming personality, though Pugs show an individual trait of being mischievous. Nevertheless, they are both excellent at supervising children and get along with other dogs. Both breeds are smart, but training Boxers are easier than with Pugs. Finding a Boxer Pug is easy, as the breed is generally favored because of its great personality and features. But before buying online, you have to be strategic and smart with your purchase. Choose from a breeder who is known to be good at breeding dogs, and who can guarantee that the parents of the pup are healthy. Make sure to genetically filter your animals first, because you can avoid experiencing unexpected bad personality behaviors or health concerns. This way. You can personally visit their shop and see the conditions of the dog, and it is one of the most definite ways to see how legit their business is, and the breeders would gladly be proud of their property. Ask your friends for a referral. If you already have friends who own a similar breed or other mix breeds, asked them how their experience was with that particular seller. You want to watch out for signs that point to the seller being dishonest. Approach your local shelter or vets for recommendations. Asking their opinion about mix breeds and breeding practices should help you with your decisions. Ask if they have any suggestion for breeders, or if they also have particular kinds which they can recommend for you. Always get a guarantee from your breeder; in cases, your puppy shows health problems. Grooming them is easy, and here are some basic things you have to observe. Brush their coat at least two to three times a week, to keep their fur looking excellent and clean. Clean the folds and wrinkles on their body. Doing so prevents bacteria from breeding. Check their eyes, and clean any dirt surrounding the area. The breed is known for suffering health injuries on the eye, and you want to prevent any harm from these areas as much as possible. Make sure to cover the simple basics of regularly cleaning their ears and eyes, trimming their nails, and brushing their coats. However, because of their flat face, their eyes are sometimes prone to injury. Here are some common health conditions which Boxer Pug Cross are prone to having. Hip Dysplasia — most of the time, this condition has something to do with the genetic component of the dog, and Pugs are one of the dogs known to have this component. Through time, the condition can put a strain on the muscles of your dogs and cause them extreme pain. Here are some of its common signs: Limping. It will likely be a small to medium-sized dog, that will likely have a flat nose, like the Pug, but a slightly longer snout — like the Boxer. You can expect your Boxer Pug mix to be a slightly larger dog than your average Pug, with a rounder belly and longer than the average Pug. Their ears will likely droop downward, like the Boxer. We can also surmise that the Boxer Pug mix first appeared sometime during the late s or early s when mixed breeding of dogs first peaked in popularity in the United States. The History of the Boxer The Boxer has a history that stretches back to 19th Germany, where they bred as bull-baiting dogs — a cruel sport in which dogs were released into a field with an angry bull and ran until either the dog was killed, or the bull collapsed from exhaustion. Later, Boxers were employed as slaughterhouse dogs — helping butchers herd cattle into pens. Despite their relatively late introduction to America, Boxers have become relatively popular family dogs over the last seven or eight decades. Given their small size and weight, Boxers are generally considered to be good family dogs. Aside from this, they are loving and affectionate dogs with moderate energy levels. The exact history of the crossbreeding of Boxers is largely undocumented, though, given their size and temperament, they tend to be a fairly popular cross with other breeds of a similar size. Some popular crossbreeds with Boxers include:. A mixed-breed can inherit any combination of traits from their parents. Should a Pug Mix take after their Pug parent, they will be an affectionate, social dog that loves their families. A Pug tends to be playful, social, friendly, and gentle. They thrive on attention and affection and tend to get along well with children, other pets, and other dogs. As long as they are well-socialized, they also tend to be open and friendly with strangers. They can be prone to barking and it can become a nuisance behavior if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. If the other parent breed has a similar temperament, then you can expect the same from a Pug Mix. You still want to ask the breeder about the other parent breed as they will likely introduce their own potential quirks. You can also meet the mother in person to get a sense of her temperament and see the behavior she is modeling for her puppies. Although the breeder should have started socialization and training, it is up to you to continue to train and socialize a puppy once you get them home. Pugs are moderately adaptable dogs. Although they do well in apartments as well as larger homes, they are particularly sensitive to heat and cold as a snub-nosed dog breed. They also do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. If the other parent breed is similar, then you should be able to expect the same from a Pug Mix. The other parent breed could still introduce some traits that affect adaptability, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. Mixed-breed dogs can sometimes be healthier than purebred dogs, but it is not a guarantee. They can inherit none, some, or all of the conditions common to their parent breeds. From the Pug side, potential health conditions to be aware of include eye problems, luxating patella , encephalitis, and hip dysplasia. As a brachycephalic, or snub-nosed, dog, they are prone to allergies and respiratory issues. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues on to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. A Pug is eager to please and tends to pick up on things quickly. They tend to be a good fit for owners of all experience levels. The other parent breed could make a Pug Mix easy to train or more difficult, so you want to make sure you ask the breeder about them. A Pug Mix can inherit a coat similar to one of their parents or a coat that is truly a mix of both. Should they inherit the Pug coat, it will shed a bit year-round, require weekly brushing, and the occasional bath. Cutting nails once or twice monthly keeps them from growing too long. Ear checks on a weekly basis with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day in addition to cleanings at the vet as needed are ideal dental care for dogs. Pugs tend to sit in a low to moderate energy range. Usually, daily walks and some playtime are enough to keep them happy and healthy. They may be up for more activity, but can also get easily overheated. There are safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs to help make sure they get enough activity. If the other parent breed also has a low to moderate activity level, then you can expect something similar from a Pug Mix. However, if the other parent breed is a higher energy dog, then you will want to make sure you are prepared for the potential of a high-energy dog. Fully-grown Pugs are usually inches tall and weigh pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother. Although it is not a guarantee, you can meet the mother in person to get an idea of what to expect in a fully-grown Pug Mix. A Pug generally lives for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, but you should be able to expect a similar average life span from a Pug Mix. Featured Pug Mix Article.

And, unfortunately, there are many health conditions that can affect the Boxer breed, such as: Allergies. This range, however, is comparable to that of other large dog breeds. The ongoing expenses associated with having a Boxer puppy primarily comprise food and other necessities. However, you must also consider check-ups and pet insurance. Regular check-ups should be provided to your Boxer dog at least every two months so they remain healthy and they meet their maximum lifespan. Additionally, you should invest in pet insurance to help with the financial strain of high-priced vet expenses. Pet insurance coverage includes emergency procedures such as total hip replacement, injuries, and various illnesses. Leaving your dog with a friend, neighbor, or a professional pet sitter is an excellent option, particularly for well-behaved, socialized canines. You can hire a professional groomer instead. Emergency Medical Procedure: Serious health issues such as kidney, liver disease, or cancer can strike certain dogs without warning, and the Boxer is not exempt. If your dog has already reached the end of its prime years, expect to pay for emergency medical treatments. Apart from emergency medical treatment for certain health conditions, the expenses mentioned above are entirely optional. This implies that as you progress, you can identify strategies to avoid these expenses entirely and make additional savings. If your Boxer dog is a fussy eater, you will be obliged to purchase expensive wet canned food. Making homemade food and treats for your dog is one method to cut down on this expenditure. Invest in high-quality essentials. Investing in high-quality dog accessories such as a food and water bowl is an excellent way to save money. Groom your dog at home. Boxer puppies require little grooming at home. Investing the time and effort necessary to learn how to groom this puppy yourself will eventually pay off. Stick with durable dog toys. Choosing durable dog toys for playdates is essential. Consider products noted for their durability, so it would take a few months before you need to buy new ones. Visit the vet regularly. These papers cost money and will increase the price of your Boxer puppy slightly. This is important because pedigree changes the price of the Boxer puppy; I will discuss this next! Pedigree is important when it comes to determining what your Boxer puppy will look like, its temperament, and the chance of it developing genetic issues in the future as it grows up. Determining who the dam and sire of your Boxer puppy are is important in determining price. If your Boxer puppy has a champion sire or dam, then the price of the puppy will increase significantly. Champion heritage drives the price of the Boxer puppy up because the buyer is almost guaranteed to get a perfect specimen of what a Boxer should be and has a better chance at winning competitions with their Boxer puppy when it grows up. The breed, unfortunately, suffers from hip dysplasia, cardiovascular myopathy, severe arthritis, degenerative myelopathy, several cancers, and aortic valve disease. The American Kennel Club recommends that all of these tests, including thyroid screening, elbow evaluations, and certain DNA tests are all done to produce a long-term prognosis so effective preventative care can be carried out from day one. If a Boxer puppy has any health concerns, then their price will decrease, and they will often be sold for a couple of hundred dollars or so depending on the specific health issues they have. As medium-sized dogs, Boxers can leave their mothers safely at eight weeks. Many people who want to compete with their boxers will wait until the Boxer puppy is six to eight months old before purchasing them. During this time, the breeder will invest in behavioral training. When the Boxer puppy is six to eight months old, the breeder will also be able to give you a better idea of their temperament and their adult markings and ultimate size. As a result, these puppies will be much more expensive than the younger ones. Boxers will stand at 23 to 25 inches tall if they are male and .They have tall, regal-looking shoulders that slope down gently to a smaller set of hips. Their heads are quite square and are characterized by their wrinkles that make them appear confused but curious! Boxers that meet the breed standard are a fawn or brindle color with white markings on their chests, bellies, inner legs, and faces. However, the white markings may not be more than a third of their entire body. If your Boxer puppy meets the breed standard, then their price will increase because they can be used for competitions. However, if they do not meet the breed standard, then their price will be decreased, as this is seen as undesirable from a competition standpoint. The first agreement will prevent you from further breeding your Boxer puppy. The second agreement will prevent you from entering your Boxer puppy into any competitions. Both contacts will decrease the price of your Boxer puppy, as they place restrictions on what you can and cannot do with your puppy as it grows up. To learn more, contact local kennel clubs or veterinarians who specialize in German Shepherds for more information on finding a reputable breeder. This will allow you to see where the puppies are kept and interact with the dogs before making your final decision on which one is best for you. For more information on finding a reputable breeder, contact local kennel clubs and veterinarians who specialize in German Shepherds for more information. How to Find Puppy Mills And Backyard Breeders in Louisiana Unfortunately, there are all too many unethical breeders looking to make a quick buck that will sell their puppies to anyone with money. Backyard breeders do not care about genetic testing or providing an environment where dogs can grow up healthy and happy; they only care about making a profit at the expense of the animals. Many backyard breeders keep their dogs in cramped conditions without access to proper veterinary care or sanitation options. A responsible breeder will have happy customers who can speak to the quality of their puppies and the care they received from the breeder. References can be extremely valuable when it comes time to choosing a breeder, as they can give you an idea of the kind of experience you can expect when purchasing a puppy from them. Ask your potential breeder for references and then take the time to contact them. If possible, try to visit their home and meet their dogs to get a first-hand account of what life is like with them. Be wary of any breeder who does not allow you to interact with their dogs in person. If a breeder refuses, this is a major red flag and you should look for a different breeder immediately. Good breeders will socialize their puppies with gentle human interaction to help them become well-rounded animals. You should always ask your breeder if they have a veterinarian that they work with. This means that, in the event of an emergency, the breeder will be able to contact a professional without any trouble. If you want to bring your German Shepherd puppy home and you know a good veterinarian in your area, it is a good idea to ask for their information so you can start taking him or her in as soon as possible. A responsible breeder will also keep veterinary records on all of their animals and provide them to both you and the new veterinarian upon request. Puppy mills and backyard breeders do not adhere to humane standards when breeding dogs; instead, they view them as livestock that exists solely for profit. These unethical breeders often keep their dogs in cramped and unsanitary conditions, without proper veterinary care or socialization. As a result, the puppies they produce often have temperament and health problems. Some common warning signs include: The breeder does not have any information on the parents of the puppies The breeder does not allow you to meet the parents of the puppies The breeder does not allow you to interact with the puppies in person The breeder keeps their dogs in cramped and unsanitary conditions The breeder does not provide veterinary records to new owners The breeder charges excessive prices for puppies If you encounter a breeder who exhibits any of these signs, please report them to your local animal welfare organization. Puppy mills and backyard breeders should be shut down in order to protect the welfare of the dogs involved. When looking for a German Shepherd breeder in Louisiana, it is important to keep in mind that not all breeders are created equal. Some breeders are more interested in making a profit than in providing quality puppies, while others take great care in the breeding and raising of their dogs. By following these tips, you can help ensure that you find a healthy, happy puppy. Good breeders will screen their dogs for genetic health issues and will not breed animals who are prone to developing certain diseases. If you are considering buying a German Shepherd puppy, it is important to be aware of some common health problems that these dogs can suffer from, such as hip dysplasia, bloat, and elbow dysplasia. Puppy mills and backyard breeders often do not screen their puppies for health problems, which can lead to expensive vet bills down the road. No puppy pains here! Then add all of this and you've found a wonderful friend: Tony is well behaved in the house, he's fun to be around, he can be left alone and trusted while youre gone, he's affectionate, sweet, smart, adorable, and obedient. Tony is the BEST! And those eyes--they're like a tiger! It's like a little cloud of heaven even though he is a short-haired dog. He is so cuddly that it is almost therapeutic to be around this sweet guy. This big boy loves to give kisses and I think he would simply smother you with love if he could. Extremely affectionate, this boy is definitely a people-oriented dog, though he loves to be around other dogs too. He is an extremely happy dog, always excited to see and greet you! This big boy is super calm inside, and when he is outside LOVES to swim if there is a pool or a pond around! He is definitely a water puppy! This big guy also does a good job of sleeping by your bed, waiting patiently until morning. And he is not a "barky" dog. About this baby's History: He was found in a subdivision, abandoned, in Texas. Everyone that met him loved him and he was taken in by a number of families while they searched for his owners, until finally he was taken on by the EKC Rescue. Tony has spent the last month in foster care, ensuring he has a clean bill of health, and learning as much as we can about him so we can place him in the perfect home! About this baby's ideal home: This fella is great with other dogs. He does well with both smaller and larger breeds. But when introducing him to new dogs at home, its important to do the process slowly as he has given some warning growls to some dogs before. He is strongly expected to do well with cats but he has never officially been around one. It is a possibility that he will jump on smaller children, so plan to put in some training if you have young ones. BUT I believe he will do very well with children invading his space as they can often do like pulling or tugging on him. Tony can get a little excited whenever voices are raised or whenever he sees his humans, so he would ideally have a calm mom or dad that can be patient and guide him in the right direction until he calms down. Because of this angel's size, he would do perfect with a family that wouldn't mind have a big beautiful boy running around.Though he has only ever jumped up on someone once, he may need some more guidance in that area. He really is so sweet, calm, quiet whenever he is inside that you forget he's not a little dog! Tony is neutered, up to date on shots, free of all intestinal parasites, and currently taking preventive heartworm and flea and tick. He is ready to go! With all dog breeds, if you have a dog that pulls when walking on a dog collar and leash — pressure can be put on the neck, particularly if the dog is prone to suddenly bolt. This is particularly true for Bulldogs who may already have issues with respiration which could be made worse by constant pressure on their necks. For an English Bulldog puppy, a harness can take the initial strains away which can lead to long term issues. It can also train them to reduce or extinguish pulling behaviour. For an adult, the harness can offer support as well as continually allow the dog owner to control their pet reinforcing good behaviours. It is essential to find a harness that not only can deal with the strength of an English Bulldog but can also offer support to reduce any undue pressure on the dog. Dog collars , though useful for ID tags and walking well-behaved dogs, can be problematic and with enough force can slip off. It is definitely worth considering a harness for your English Bulldog. No Pull Harness for an English Bulldog As the name suggests, a no-pull dog harness is one designed to reduce pulling. Given the strength of a British Bulldog, when they decide to pull — the person walking can feel it. Not only that but a poorly designed or fitting harness can be ineffective in reducing the pulling behaviour. The second type is a front range, a harness type that includes two leash attachment points. The main lead attachment is normally located at the back top of the dog and any good lead can be clipped on for normal walking. The other point is usually located at the front chest and can be attached using a double-ended training leads. These training leads, such as the HALTI , can be used as a normal leash or can be separated out so both ends can be attached to the harness. Your dog can then be guided similar to the way a horse is manoeuvred. There are several examples of both harness types in the collection below. Types of Bulldog Harnesses Vest Harness: This is a basic type of harness, generally inexpensive and lacking in features — it can be a great alternative to a dog collar for well-behaved Bulldogs. Leash attachment points of vest harnesses are generally located at the top back. Front or Back Clip No-Pull Harness: As discussed above, this no-pull harness can either have one or two leash attachment points. Front Range harnesses such as the Ruffwear has two lead attachment points for use with a training leash. These are the most common types of harnesses and are featured several times in this collection. The second is that this unpleasant sensation can actually increase the pulling behaviour as they try to escape the pain. Head Collars: We have an entire article on the pros and cons of head collars as well as some general recommendations. Though not technically classed as a harness, the head collar can be used solely or in conjunction with a harness to offer better control of your dog. They can be used for both walking and guiding the canine as well as stopping sudden lunging or jumping. Although often associated as stylish or fashionable rather than practical — these are many excellent leather harnesses that do both. Leather has the advantage of being strong but you should also look out for padding on the inside to avoid chafing as well as a good design to offer all the practical aspects of a no-pull harness. Support and Rehabilitation Harnesses: We do not cover them in this article but are looking to include a feature on them shortly. Essentially these are designed for disabled, senior or dogs suffering from mobility issues and back problems. Measuring your English Bulldog for a Dog Harness It is important to measure your English Bulldog correctly when fitting a harness for a snug fit which is neither too tight or they could escape from. If you find yourself between two sizes of harness e. You can check out our handy guide to measuring your dog for a harness here — however, here are a few tips. Measure the chest: Using a tape measurer you will need to measure the widest part of the chest. Add two inches: to allow for some flexibility and potential future weight gain. Whether you just brought a new English Bulldog puppy into your life, or adopted from a bullie rescue — You need to learn about harnesses. Finding a correctly fitted bulldog harness can be a challenge. English bulldogs are a unique breed, for so many reasons. One of which is their short and condensed stature. This can lead to frustration and difficulty in finding the best fitting harness for bulldogs. Brachycephalic breeds like English and French bulldogs have smushed faces and their famous underbite. But they also have broad shoulders, deep chests, and stocky frames. Because of these physical characteristics, bullies are difficult to fit for harnesses. You may wonder why a pet owner would buy a harness, instead of just a regular collar. Many dogs can successfully wear collars made from leather, nylon, or even sometimes chrome. Note: This page includes affiliate links — which means I may receive some sort of compensation at no cost to you if you sign up or make a purchase through these links. Some pet owners and trainers do very well with them. However, I would never recommend using a choke collar on a bulldog, or any brachycephalic breed. Their tracheas are typically more narrow than other types of dogs. Also, while their esophagus is essentially the same length as other breeds, they are more compressed in a bulldog. Their short muzzles cause their airways to collapse a bit, sort of like an accordion. Which can be exacerbated by strenuous activity, warm weather, and even obesity. So if the bulldog already has a hard time breathing, why would anyone want to restrict their airway any further? Any possibility of a bulldog pulling against a collar can be harmful. Why even take that kind of risk by putting a collar on your bullie? How Collars Can Affect Bulldog Safety In addition, stubborn bulldogs who pull in the opposite direction can have their share of collar issues as well. Since bulldogs tend to have thicker necks, their collars can tend to be roughly the same circumference as their heads. As opposed to other dog breeds, who have slimmer necks in proportion to their heads. Especially when it comes to younger pups, who tend to be unpredictable and may have less training. Ask me how I know this — I have a vivid recollection of when my first bulldog was a puppy. She backed right out of here leather collar when I was taking her outside for a walk. And she started running around the parking lot where I lived, as I desperately chased her. Luckily, two of my neighbors helped me catch her, and I brought her safely back inside. Instead, the force is spread evenly over her broad chest. There are many training harnesses available to assist with bulldog puppy training or any active dog who has a propensity for jumping. No pull harnesses help support training activities and defer your bullie from pulling away from you. If you have a bulldog, then you know how stubborn they can be. At times, they will plant their paws squarely into the ground, refusing to budge. But with a properly fitted no pull harness, you can help your bulldog to walk confidently by your side. These are reviews based on my experience as a bulldog owner, over the past two decades. The links below also will bring you to the Amazon product page for each dog harness. To be clear, these are from my experiences, as well as reviews that these harnesses have received online through Amazon. However, I have not tried every single English Bulldog harness in existence. So therefore, please keep in mind there might be other great ones out there. But from my own personal experience, here are some of the best harnesses I have used with my bulldogs, and gladly recommend to others. And, it goes without saying, please do your own homework. If your bulldog has special needs or different proportions from the norm, be sure to choose the harness that is best for your particular situation. Personally, I think this can be the crucial timeframe for finding the right harness for your bulldog. Also, getting your English Bulldog accustomed to wearing a harness when they are young is always a good idea. Otherwise, you may encounter a struggle when they are older. My male bulldog has always been great about wearing his harness and walking on leash. Any time we left the house, he needed to be fully equipped and harnessed. Putting a Harness on a Fussy Dog On the other hand, our younger girl is not as comfortable with wearing her harness. By the time we brought her home, we were living in a house with a fenced-in yard. So she grew up being leash- and harness-free the majority of the time. We would only put a harness on her when going to the vet, training, or any other outing. She eventually concedes, but not as quickly or amiably as my bullie boy. But she is also a lot sassier than he is, in general.
Articles Probably one of the most fun and endearing grooming trends when it comes to dogs is the teddy bear cut. Poodles were built for this aesthetic which is why the Teddy Bear Poodle is so popular. A Teddy Bear Poodle is a Poodle that is groomed to look like a teddy bear. This often includes specifically trimming the fur to create a rounded, stuffed toy aesthetic. Contrary to popular misconception, Teddy Bear Poodles are actually purebred Poodles and not mixed dogs. Owning and caring for a Teddy Bear Poodle is a great responsibility. You need to understand not only how to raise a happy and healthy dog but also how to maintain their adorable teddy bear cut. If you have no idea where to start, you have come to the right place. A Teddy Bear Poodle is a term used to refer to a purebred Poodle that has been groomed to look like a teddy bear. They are not a breed variation or a mixed breed doggy as some may claim. Given the fact that Teddy Bear Poodles are basically like any other Poodle, they conform to the same breed standards as Poodles with any other style of grooming. However, there are a few specific features that are preferred over others to create the realistic teddy bear aesthetic. Size Technically speaking, a Teddy Bear Poodle can be of any size as long as they are purebred. However, to achieve a closer likeness to the small stuffed toys they are named after, Toy Poodles and Miniature Poodles are most commonly styled as teddy bears. Toy Poodles are the smallest recognized type of Poodle and range from 4 lbs in weight and should not exceed 10 inches in height. Miniature Poodles on the other hand range from 10 to 15 lbs in weight and 10 to 15 inches in height. Coat Type The teddy bear aesthetic in Poodle can only be achieved if the coat type is dense and fluffy enough to be easily manipulated into the right style. For this, Poodles with the common curly coat are the only ones that can get the teddy bear cut. Colors Poodles come in many different colors. However, Brown and Apricot Poodles are the ones that usually get associated with the teddy bear aesthetics. Black coats are also commonly seen with this grooming style. The life expectancy for a Teddy Bear Poodle is 10 to 18 years. This range covers all sizes of Poodles from Standard Poodles that tend to live shorter to Toy Poodles that live the longest. Given that the Teddy Bear Poodle is just named so because of the grooming style, they do not deviate from this lifespan range. They also suffer the same health conditions that all other Poodles are prone to. Here are some of these diseases. This affects several functions from metabolism to thermoregulation. With Teddy Bear Poodles in particular, the alopecia associated with hypothyroidism leaves uneven patches of thin coat which ruin the whole aesthetic. In this case, it is the adrenal glands that fail to do their job of producing hormones. As with hypothyroidism, several systems are affected which results in very vague symptoms. Hip Dysplasia Hip dysplasia in Teddy Bear Poodles is a disease of the joints where the hip joint socket fails to form normally. Taking care of a Teddy Bear Poodle is, for the most part, just like taking care of any other Poodle. Just make sure to feed them healthy, get them on a regular exercise schedule, stick to your routine vet visits, and come up with a grooming schedule. However, in this case, maintaining aesthetics is the huge priority in the care of Teddy Bear Poodles. That is why we have compiled the following summary of care tips particularly aimed at improving coat health and maintaining aesthetics. You also have to ensure that the meals are balanced in terms of nutritional contents. This is because several nutrients are required for coat health from proteins and healthy fats to minerals and vitamins. And we recommend providing 1 oz of serving per pound of body weight twice daily for Teddy Bear Poodles. Pet Plate is by far the best option for balanced dog meals. They use recipes that are approved by veterinarians to ensure that your dog is getting enough of all the crucial nutrients. Some of the most effective vitamins when it comes to coat health include vitamin E, vitamin B7, and vitamin C. Constant scratching will not only mess up the aesthetic and likely cause damage to the coat with fur loss, as well as the skin if the scratching leaves open wounds. Identifying allergy triggers and avoiding them while also managing the triggers is another great strategy to keep your Teddy Bear Poo looking cute. However, the fact that Toy and Miniature Poodles are more commonly used means you may find a few differences if you compare Standard Poodles to your regular Teddy Bear Poodle. Here are a few of these personality traits so that you know what to expect exactly. Feisty And Vocal Teddy Bear Poodles are adorable, and they seem to know it, given how spunky the little doggies tend to be. Their feisty behavior is often accompanied by an inexplicable love for barking and whining. Teddy Bear Poodles will bark and whine whenever they are happy, scared, frustrated, or even just bored. Intelligent Training a Teddy Bear Poodle and living with them, in general, is very easy as they are very smart and. They pick up quickly on training and are usually very obedient. This makes Teddy Bear Poodles awesome pets for first-time dog owners. Loyal Another awesome thing you have to look forward to with Teddy Bear Poodles is the fact that they are super loyal. They love to be around their favorite humans, especially if you are active in their training and daily care. Energetic Teddy Bear Poodles are little balls of energy that are sure to keep you on your feet. They are very energetic and athletic, thereby needing frequent engagement to keep them happy. Affectionate And Clingy When Toy and Miniature Poodles get the teddy bear cut, the resulting Teddy Bear Poo will demonstrate signs of clinginess which is in contrast to the reserved and aloof Standard Poo. If you want to be showered with affection and attention, the smaller Teddy Bear Poodles are the way to go. Image from Instagram: bella. This is largely due to the fact that they have a dense and tightly curled coat which rarely sheds. And when they do shed, the fur pretty much gets trapped within the dense coat. Seeing that Teddy Bear Poos are simply regular Poodles with the same curly coat type, they also enjoy the hypoallergenic status. However, their coat care needs may be slightly different compared to those you find with other Poodles. Here are the 3 most important things you need to know about the maintenance of the teddy bear haircut on your Poodle. If anything, regular brushing to detangle and get rid of any loose fur is actually a great way to keep them looking awesome. Your choice of grooming tool also matters in which case we recommend the Furminator Undercoat Tool. This grooming comb is designed to work on any coat type and any cut style without ruining either the coat or the cut. Removes loose hair: reaches through the topcoat to remove loose undercoat hair without cutting skin or damaging the.FURejector button: just push the button to release hair with ease. However, with Teddy Bear Poodles, it is best to align and stagger your wash schedule with your teddy bear recutting and restyling schedule. To ensure that the results of your wash last long enough for the next grooming session, we recommend that you work with high-quality products like Mighty Petz 2-In-1 Oatmeal Dog Shampoo And Conditioner. This shampoo and conditioner combo is made with oatmeal extracts which help with promoting coat health. Schedule A Trimming And Restyling Every 6 Weeks If you wish to maintain the teddy bear aesthetic in your dog for a long period of time, we recommend that you plan for trimming and restyling every 6 weeks, give or take a couple of weeks. Failure to do so will leave you with an unsightly mess of fur that looks nothing like a cute and cuddly teddy bear. Not all Poodles can pull off the teddy bear cut. It largely depends on the type of coat that they have. The teddy bear grooming style works best on Poodles with the common dense, curly coat that can easily be trimmed and manipulated to achieve the aesthetic. However, Poodles that have the rarer corded coat type cannot have the teddy bear cut done on them, as the fur strands are much longer and tend to lay close to the skin as opposed to being puffed out. If you already have a Poodle, the cost of getting them groomed and styled for the teddy bear aesthetic depends on their size. Can Teddy Bear Poodles Swim? Teddy Bear Poodles not only love swimming but are actually very good at it. Their ancestors were used as water fowl retrieval dogs and their instinctive love for the water can still be seen in modern day purebred Poodles. Although she stands no more than 10 inches tall and weighs between 4—6 pounds, the Toy Poodle has a big, playful personality that can fill up a room. While frequently associated with France, Standard Poodles were first developed in Germany, where they were used in duck hunting. They have lower exercise needs than many other dog breeds, but still benefit from a daily walk and play session. Poodles of all sizes have curly coats with extensive grooming needs. Their coat grows continuously, calling for a trim every four to six weeks. However, there is no such thing as a completely "hypoallergenic" dog. People with allergies should spend time with the breed before officially bringing home a Toy Poodle puppy. But during this long life , they are predisposed to a few health issues that may require care. Pet parents may benefit from investing in pet insurance early in life. Progressive Retinal Atrophy Progressive retinal atrophy PRA is a group of diseases that cause a breakdown of the photoreceptor cells rods and cones on the retina. Initially, the dog may have difficulty seeing in the dark, but the condition can cause blindness over time. PRA is an inherited disease and there are currently no effective treatments available. Patellar Luxation The patella kneecap is a small bone that normally sits in a groove within the femur at the knee. In dogs with patellar luxation, the patella moves luxates outside of its assigned groove when the knee is flexed. This movement can cause discomfort and may eventually lead to arthritis. Many pets will skip or run on three legs when the patella is out of place. While some cases will correct themselves, in more severe cases the patella remains out of place. In mild cases, joint supplements such as fish oils and glucosamine or anti-inflammatory medications are used to control pain and prevent arthritis. In more severely affected dogs, surgery may be recommended. This causes pain and limping occur as the bone breaks down. In some cases, pain can be controlled with medications. In severe cases, surgery to remove the head of the femur may be recommended. Symptoms include visible debris, redness, odor, head shaking, and scratching. If any of these signs are noted, take your dog to the veterinarian for an exam. In most cases, ear infections can be resolved by cleaning the ear and with topical medications. Toy Poodles develop ear infections more often than most other breeds. This may be partly due to Poodles having long ear canals with excess curly hair to trap in moisture and debris. Trimming not plucking the hair from the ear may help reduce the incidence of ear infections. Dogs with chronic or recurring ear infections frequently have allergies that should be addressed. Dental Disease Dental disease is one of the most common conditions seen in dogs as they age, especially in small breeds like the Toy Poodle. Dental disease occurs when bacterial tartar and plaque build up, leading to inflammation of the tissues around the teeth—and eventually to tooth and bone decay. Daily tooth brushing with a dog-specific toothpaste is the best way to prevent dental disease, though some diets, treats, and chew toys also help prevent plaque and tartar. Tracheal Collapse Tracheal collapse occurs when the trachea commonly called the windpipe flattens. This happens due to weak cartilage rings or the sagging of a membrane along the trachea. Most cases are treated using medications, but in severe cases where breathing is impeded, surgery may be necessary. Toy poodles are likely genetically predisposed to tracheal collapse. When on walks, use a harness instead of a collar, as pressure on the trachea can cause further damage. The condition causes a deficiency in a protein called the von Willebrand factor, which is necessary for platelets to stick together and form a clot. In dogs that are deficient in this protein, the blood may have difficulty clotting, which can lead to bleeding from the nose, vulva, bladder, or gums. Additionally, dogs with this condition may bleed for a long time after trauma or surgery. If there is concern about VWD, a screening test may be performed. This test measures how long it takes for a small cut in the mouth to stop bleeding. If the time is longer than usual, additional testing is needed to confirm VWD. Because some dogs with VWD do not have notably prolonged bleeding until later in adulthood, blood levels of von Willebrand factor can be measured to help with diagnosis. Most veterinarians recommend testing for VWD prior to any planned surgery, including spays, neuters, and dewclaw removals. Puppies should be fed a diet formulated specifically for puppies or designated for all life stages. For Toy Poodle adults, dental-focused diets may be recommended by your veterinarian to help prevent dental disease. Toy poodle puppies, however, should eat three to four small meals per day on a consistent schedule to help maintain their blood sugar. Additionally, the feeding guide labels on the dog food provides valuable information for pet parents. Just remember: In small breeds like the Toy Poodle, calories in treats add up quickly. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in skin and joint supplements , fish oil, and even in some specially formulated dog foods. These fatty acids act as natural anti-inflammatories that help support the skin, coat, kidneys, joints, and heart. They are playful and self-confident when socialized at a young age. While relatively calm, Toy Poodles enjoy playtime and exercise with the family. The breed is gentle with children and other pets, though all interactions between dogs and kids should be supervised. Because these pups are so tiny, they can accidentally be hurt during playtime. Toy Poodles have lower exercise needs than many other dog breeds, but still benefit from a daily walk and play session. Toy Poodle Behavior Toy Poodles bond closely to their families and may develop separation anxiety if left alone for extended periods. They can also be sensitive to stress, and sudden changes in the home environment may lead to gastrointestinal upset. Additionally, because Poodles are so smart, they need mental stimulation to keep themselves entertained—and out of trouble. Bored dogs are more likely to bark, jump, be destructive, or misbehave. Toy Poodle Training Toy poodles want to please their owners. Paired with their smarts, this makes them an easy breed to train. As always, training is most successful when based on positive reinforcement with praise and tasty treats. Fun Activities for Toy Poodle Obedience training. Also called Barbone and Caniche, the teacup-toy Poodle is an intelligent and loyal breed. If you want a best friend who is big enough to keep up with your adventures but small enough to ride in your lap, this energetic dog may be a match for you. Affectionate, eager, and playful, they are ready and willing to do what it takes to make you happy. Their intelligence makes them relatively easy to train, and early socialization will help your pup grow to be calm and happy around pets, children, and unfamiliar people. They are a delightful all-around dog that has such strong qualities, it has been a parent breed for dozens of hybrid breeds. Their eyes are dark and brilliant and reveal their intelligence. Their nose is refined at the end of a long, narrow snout, and their teeth meet in a strong scissor bite. A miniature variation dictates that Teacup-Toy Poodles will have a squarely-built body with a deep chest and muscled shoulders. Their stance is elegant but sturdy, and their tail stands straight up. Their hair is typically dense, curly, and even wiry. Their coats come in many colors: White. Toy poodles double down on the froofroo rep with their tiny size and by sometimes sporting those fancy haircuts. But trust us, poodles are more than happy to get down and dirty. In fact, poodles started life as hunting dogs for the rich and famous in Europe. What made them so popular, however, is their incredible intelligence. Generally regarded as one of the smartest dog breeds , poodles are highly trainable, extremely eager to please people, and love being the center of attention through tricks and activities. None of that has changed over the years: The poodle consistently ranks as one of the 10 most popular breeds in the world. Appearance Toy, miniature , and standard poodles are all the same breed of dog, so they'll look more or less the same—except for their size. Toy poodles are the smallest of the three, standing no more than 10 inches tall and generally weighing right around 5 pounds. All three classifications of poodle have squarish bodies, generally about as long as they are tall. Poodles have a proud bearing, with heads kept high and their large, dark-colored eyes looking alert. Poodle coats come in a stunning array of colors from black, through the browns and yellow colors all the way to white. Bi-colored coats are also seen, though not hugely common. Poodles don't shed much , making them great for owners with allergies. While there aren't technically any hypoallergenic dogs , most people will find toy poodles close enough to not really quibble over it. Additionally, groomers can style a poodle's fur many different ways, and the breed has become famous for its outlandish show cuts. They tend to consider themselves a vital part of the family, have strong personalities, and learn things in a flash. They will get legitimately disgruntled if they think they're being left out of family activities. Of course, this temperament is kind of a double-edged sword. Toy poodles are devoted family pets who love to be the center of attention, learn tricks, and take walks. They're excellent in agility and obedience training and will play with children for hours. Because of their extreme intelligence, poodles are even quick to learn how to engage in more complex games such as hide and seek. On the flip side, poodles can develop common stress behaviors associated with separation anxiety. If you leave them alone for too long or don't give them the attention they deserve, these pups can be passive aggressive and do things they know you don't like—while you're there to watch. The toy poodle's teensy-tiny size makes it tempting to carry him everywhere, and he's so cute that it's no surprise owners are tempted to spoil him rotten. But, again, poodles are brilliant. A toy poodle who is carried everywhere will start to expect to be carried everywhere. As a result, every poodle owner should take full advantage of the breed's brilliance and eagerness to please, and obedience train their pet as quickly as possible. Living Needs Here is where the toy poodle's aptitude as an ideal family pet really shines. While poodles can be active dogs and will require some kind of daily exercise, toy poodles can get all their needs taken care of right there on the living room floor. Nichols says these little dogs will be happy with whatever type and amount of exercise their owner provides. Their tiny size makes them marvelous apartment-dwellers , and their innate desire to be lapdogs makes them great for seniors and people with mobility issues. Poodles of all sizes make great therapy dogs , and toy poodles in particular will love sitting near you for hours at a time. Toy poodles do great in households with other dogs, and the breed's lower prey drive , high intelligence, and friendly attitude make them ideal for houses with cats as well. Poodles love children and are eager to play, but most vets and breeders will steer households with children under the age of 10 toward the miniature or standard varieties, simply because the toy poodles are so small. They can be easily hurt by a falling child or by being handled too roughly. Always supervise children when they play with any dog and teach them how to properly interact with pets. Care No breed is perfect, and for poodles the biggest setback is going to be their grooming needs. That coat that is so shed-free and allergy-friendly? It's going to need brushing. A lot of brushing —ideally, every day. Because his hair curls in on itself, it's extremely prone to matting and, if left unchecked, can cause skin infections and have to be shaved off entirely. Aside from the brushing, poodles will need a bath and haircut every four to six weeks. While show dogs have a variety of complicated cuts to choose from, most non-show owners opt for a more standard sporting cut because of its ease to maintain. Like all dogs, you'll need to trim his nails regularly. Special attention should be paid to the ears , as their hair will grow up inside the ear canal, trapping wax and dirt and leading to infections. Because toy varieties have the same number of teeth as other poodle varieties but their mouths are smaller, it's easy for food to get trapped and decay to occur rapidly. Health Though the three varieties of poodles are the same breed, they do not suffer from the same conditions. While the standard poodle will be more prone to bloat , toy poodles can be slightly more susceptible to blood clotting disorders including Von Willebrand's disease and hemophilia , Beck says. Finally, smaller dogs can have a higher propensity for dental problems. In addition to being at greater risk for tooth decay , they don't lose their puppy teeth as easily as bigger dogs, Beck says. Reputable toy poodle breeders will conduct all health tests recommended by the Canine Health Information Center. History The poodle is the national dog of France, which is why you'll hear many people refer to the standard poodle as the "French poodle. Today in France, the poodle is known as the caniche, which translates to "duck dog. Toy poodles began to see favor by the late 18th century, appearing in artwork and in the courts of French aristocracy. The American Kennel Club recognized the poodle as a registered breed in .Jinkee , a 5-year-old red toy poodle, has more than 70, followers on Instagram. Was this page helpful?

Our goal is to produce wonderful, healthy, low-shedding, well-socialized puppies with the best temperaments, so you can enjoy this breed as much as we do. All our breeding dogs are genetically tested thru PawPrint genetics and Embark and other testings relevant to the breed. The pups are surrounded by their families and children as they are raised. This allows our puppies to be truly family-raised. In our home when we whelp, we have a whelping room specifically designated for our breeding girls. My husband, Tom, and I are high school sweethearts who have been married 38 years. We have 3 children, all of whom are now married. We began breeding Labrador Retrievers 21 years ago, shortly after acquiring our first chocolate lab. Approximately 15 years ago we began hearing about a new breed called labradoodles. If you go with a boxer breeder in Indiana then you will be able to get the best possible puppy for your family. They can help you find one that is just right for your home and lifestyle. You will also know exactly what conditions they were kept in when it comes to health and nutrition, which makes the chances of them being healthy even better. How to Find A Responsible Boxer Breeder in Indiana There are some red flags that you should watch out for when it comes to locating a boxer breeder. It may be tempting to buy from someone who is selling puppies for less than market value but this could end up being a bad idea. You need to understand what kind of conditions they were kept in because you do not want your puppy coming into the home with health problems right away. Asking friends and family or taking to social media can be a good place to start when looking for a boxer breeder in Indiana. It is more likely that they can get a referral from somebody who has used their services before compared to just randomly calling or emailing them. You should be able to do all of this online if you want to save time and feel safer about it. It is also highly recommended that you go with what the American Kennel Club suggests when selecting any dog breeder. They have certain standards that need to be met before they are approved so take advantage of this. Visit Your Indiana Boxer Breeder in Person When you are ready to visit your boxer breeder, be prepared to see how they do business. They should let you into the house or facility right away if it is clean and there should not be any loud barking or dogs in cages. You will most likely meet the parents of the litter as well as any other adult boxers that they have on-site at the moment. If everything goes well during your meeting with them then you can expect to get a healthy puppy from them after completing all of the payment and paperwork details. Visiting the breeder in person will also give you a better idea of what kind of animal they have kept in their house. There should not be any nasty odors or signs of neglect so keep this in mind when thinking about them as a business. Questions to Ask Ask for References from Your Boxer Breeder in Indiana Always make sure that you ask for references or referrals when visiting your breeder since this is an important part of their job. You may even be able to go with somebody who has already gotten one of their puppies in the past so you can see if they are happy with how he turned out. References will also give you an idea of what kind of pets that they have raised in their house. You should not visit with somebody who has nothing but terrible things to say about them or if they do not feel comfortable giving out references at all. If your breeder will not provide you with references then you should be even more cautious about their practices and think twice before sending them any money. Ask Your Indiana Boxer Breeder if You Can Meet Past Customers Your Indiana Boxer breeder should be more than happy to help you find one, or a few happy customers, as most good quality reputable breeders love talking about their dogs. Meeting past customers will also give you a chance to ask questions about temperament, or any problems they may have had. I personally like meeting past customers the best when looking for puppies because it gives me an idea of what my new puppy might be like when she is at that age. Your breeder should have a vet they regularly use for all of their dogs and puppies. Your breeder will also be able to give you the contact information or provide it to you beforehand so that you can make an appointment and get your little one checked out as soon as possible. These shots can be given as early as 8 to 10 weeks old; all depending on your breeder, where they are located, and what is standard in the area. Remember, good quality Indiana puppy breeders should want you to have a happy healthy Boxer for many years. They should want to know that you are using a veterinarian that they approve of, because since this person has already opened up their home and hearts while raising this pup; they want to make sure that when your puppy comes home with you, he or she will receive the best possible care. Asking if you have other pets can also be seen as an ethical sign because it shows that the breeder wants to make sure the environment in which everyone is living is safe and beneficial for all involved. This Indiana breeder may even ask what kind of food or treats you plan on giving your pup so that they can share information about how these items were developed. If so, how are they being treated? They should have full medical histories on both mom and dad including what vaccines were given, if there were any incidences of disease or illness during pregnancy, where the litter was born, their weights at birth, etc. You might even ask if the parents are still available for stud services or babysitting because this shows that you care about more than just money. A good breeder will know what type of food is best for a Boxer Puppy and they may even suggest a specific brand. Ask if you can buy any of their current food because this is an easy way to save money, plus most reputable breeders have been feeding the same food for years so they know it works well with their pups. A simple way some people have been successful in training their Boxer Puppy is by taking them outside every 2 hours and giving them a chance to go potty on a patch of grass.
