Adoption Form Think Before You Adopt Before you adopt a Boxer or any other animals, we would like to request that you consider few things: Boxers may live for 15 years. Please consider that your lifestyle may change. You may not have the same job where you are able to come home at lunch, you may not have the same roommate, you may graduate from school or move to a smaller house. You may have a baby, get married or get a divorce. If you think that you may not be able to make a lifetime commitment to one of our Boxers, then we kindly request you reconsider adoption. No dog is ever perfect, just like people are not perfect. It requires work to make things work. Your expectations needs to be realistic. Do you have small children or a baby? Boxers are similar. They need love, attention and an opportunity to learn too. Are you familiar with the breed? If not, you may want to look into fostering with us before making a decision to adopt. Boxers are a highly affectionate breed and very energetic. Do you have the financial means to care for the dog? Annual food and medical cost can add up. Are you older and wanting to adopt a young energetic dog? Please think about more mature dogs that need homes. Everyone wants a young dog … if you are a mature human being, please consider more mature dogs that have been waiting for their forever homes for a while. Before you fill out this application, please read our Adoption Criteria. This is required reading, and it will answer many questions you may have. Thank you for taking the time to read our guidelines and becoming familiar with our process. Here are most, but we reserve the right to refuse adoption to any home which we deem unsuitable. Dog must be an inside dog. It is OK to have an outside dog run with inside access. This is because Boxers must be protected from heat and cold. Dogs are family members and do not sleep in a garage or outside. If you expect that the new dog will not react when a child hits them, throw toys at them, takes away their toy or food, etc, then please do not adopt from us. You are not required to have a fenced yard. However, if you do not, you will need to take the dog out for a potty break at least 4 times a day, more if they do not feel well. Same goes for a home with a low fence. If you are looking to adopt a puppy, please be realistic. Any home where no one is home for more than six hours a day times a week will be rejected for puppies. We do not do female to female placements of bully breeds. That means Boxer, Bulldog, Pit bulls, etc. We will consider female to female adoption of dogs with extreme age and size difference. Here are basics you will need: Flat Leash — Nylon, cotton or leather, 6 ft long Good quality food with no corn additive Food and water dish. Be sure the application is filled out in its entirety. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Fights are happening, resulting in injuries to both dogs. Bailey is very sweet, current on vaccines, and spayed. She has been ok with male boxers so we will consider placing her with a sweet boy, who loves to play. Bailey has no history with young children. She is currently taking Prozac and Trazadone at the advice of a trainer who claimed it would help to keep her from panting in her crate. Shame on this vet who willy nilly dished out these drugs to a 13 month old dog, without asking why!! Bailey needs a committed home, with an understanding of the needs of an adolescent boxer. She should attend positive based training with her new humans. Bailey would love a fenced in yard, in addition to lots of walks and continued socialization. If you are interested in this girl, please apply! Where do your boxers come from? Many of our boxers are owner surrenders. Perhaps the owner purchased the dog on impulse, not understanding the needs of a boxer. Sometimes, financial situations change, and families are not able to care for the dog anymore. We also take dogs that have been brought to shelters around New England. If a shelter reaches out for help, we do our best to find placement for the boxer in need. Lastly, we have a wonderful relationship with boxer rescue in Puerto Rico, and we work closely with them to bring boxers in need, from the island, to New England. All of our boxers are temperament tested and evaluated before coming into rescue. It should be noted that ALL dogs require a decompression period when going to a new home. Can I adopt a female dog if I already have a female dog? The short answer is no. Our experience in placing dogs, has shown us that placing two females together is oftentimes not the best long term situation. We receive many calls from owners needing to surrender their female boxers because there is fighting with another female dog in the house. Either way, the fighting is often brutal and bloody. We have adopted a policy to never place two female dogs in the same house. Are your boxers healthy? They are brought up to date on vaccines, tested for heartworm, and spayed or neutered unless too young or not medically able to be. Their vet records are provided upon adoption. Do I need to have a fenced in yard to adopt a boxer? We do not require a fenced in yard for all of our boxers. We look at each dog, individually, and based on the needs of that dog, we may require fencing. Please note that we do not consider an electric fence to be a proper method of containment and are not able place a dog in a home that uses electric fencing. Do you have a shelter where I can come meet the boxers? We are not a shelter and do not have a physical location where you can meet our adoptees. Most boxers will stay with their owners or shelter until we can secure a foster or adoptive home for them. What Are Your Adoption Fees?
These adorable, even-tempered dogs have squashed faces and upright ears and are around 12 inches in height. These French Bulldogs are less common than regular French Bulldogs and are pricier. English Bulldogs were bred with Pugs and terriers to create their smaller size. They became popular companions amongst Nottingham lace makers for their loyal personalities and rat-catching abilities. They were taken along to northern France when many of the lace makers relocated there for better work opportunities. In France, the miniature Bulldogs were sought after by the locals, who instantly fell in love with them, and more and more of these small bulldogs that were considered unfit for breeding by the English were shipped over to France and sold. Although they were seen as flawed in their country of origin, they grew in popularity in France and ultimately became known as the French Bulldog. French Bulldogs come in many colors, including blue fawn. However, this type is rarer because they carry two recessive dilute genes as well as two fawn color genes. The small Bulldog with pointy ears started as a miniature rat-catching companion in England but was eventually seen as unfit for breeding because they no longer matched the breed standard of the English Bulldog. However, they were popularized by the French. In France, the breed was welcomed by all levels of class but soon became a status symbol as more and more high-society artists, actors, and celebrities claimed them as pets. Wealthy Americans traveling through Europe in the late s brought the breed to the US and big names, such as the Rockefellers, soon welcomed them into their homes, quickly drawing attention to the breed and causing them to skyrocket in popularity in America. However, the French Bulldog Club of England was formed four years before that, in .Markings and patterns that are allowed are brindle, piebald, black masks, black shadings, white shadings, and ticking. The accepted eye color is black or dark brown, with lighter brown being accepted too. Because of their little, disproportioned bodies, male French Bulldogs have a tough time mounting their mates, which makes puppy-making almost impossible. Due to this, most Blue Fawn French Bulldogs are brought about through artificial insemination. Females have narrow birth canals, which puts both the mother and the pups at risk during natural birth. Instead, to reduce the risk and the stress of natural birth, most French Bulldogs deliver their puppies via Cesarean section. Of course, artificial insemination along with C-section delivery is costly, which in turn pushes up the price of the puppies. Blue Fawn Genetics Are Pretty Complicated The blue color that Blue Fawn French Bulldogs are known for is the result of a dilution gene that lightens all the black pigment to a greyish color. However, for this to be evident in a puppy, both their parents would need to carry that recessive gene. To be fawn in color, these puppies would also need to carry two genes for the fawn color. Other than their coat coloring and green or blue eye color, Blue Fawn French Bulldogs are just like the rest of their French Bulldog breed. A long-haired French Bulldog can be the product of two short-haired French Bulldogs, as long as both those dogs are carriers of the rare recessive gene. Flying can often make their existing struggle with breathing worse because of the tighter space, changes in air quality and temperatures, and the high level of stress that often accompanies the trip. Getting your dog familiar with the crate and being carried in one is a way to reduce flying stress and better their chances. Blue Fawn French Bulldogs make wonderful pets due to their gentle, friendly, loyal, and playful natures. They get on well with children and seniors but do like to be the center of attention. They generally get on nicely with other pets but also do well on their own. This breed is a favorite amongst the wealthy for several reasons. However, many Frenchie lovers deem the breed worth the price, with the French Bulldogs ranking as the second most popular dog in the US. See Also:. For the complete list please see our Listings of Boxer Breeders page. This price is not too high and it will depend on the age of the puppy that you choose. Typically older puppies will cost more than younger puppies. Always check with your local Boxer breeders to see what they are asking for their pups before agreeing on a purchase. The price does not include any necessary veterinary care such as vaccines and medical treatment if needed, so always remember to factor these expenses into your financial consideration when shopping around for boxers. The cost will vary depending on the breeder, the lineage of the animal, and location in Kentucky. Breeders could charge different prices based on what type of lines their dogs are coming from. If your dog is registered with the AKC American Kennel Club , this could increase its worth significantly when selling to another person or purchasing it. How to Find A Responsible Boxer Breeder in Kentucky Finding a responsible boxer breeder in Kentucky can be very rewarding, but it can also be difficult, time-consuming and stressful. There are many things to consider when looking for a reputable breeder. The first thing that you should do is research. Search online for reviews to see if the person or business has had any issues with previous customers or breeders. If they have, contact these people and ask them about their experience. The more positive reviews you find, the better the chances of finding a good breeder. Also, check out local message boards and Facebook groups — there might be something posted where other people in your area talk about their experiences with different breeders or share information about their favorite breeders to help give insight on who could be a good option for you. If the breeder has a website, look at their site to get a feel for what kind of person they are and how much information they share with their customers. Their website should have pages about their facilities, photos of the dogs and puppies, health guarantees offered on their pups, and more. Remember that it is important to find an ethical and responsible breeder who cares about the dogs and that will guarantee their health. Stay away from calling and asking about prices and availability on the phone. The breeder should want to meet with you and talk about their puppies before giving any kind of price quotes or discussing what is included with the cost of one of their pups. Visit your chosen boxer breeder in person at their location. Talk to the people who work there and ask questions about the dogs and even about themselves You can tell a lot just by talking to people and asking questions, so use this opportunity to learn as much as you can about the breeder. Visiting your potential breeder will also give you a chance to see their facilities and to meet the parents of any puppy that you may take home with you. Look around carefully and ask questions about the animals and what is required of future owners. The breeder should be knowledgeable about the breed, health-conscious, and willing to answer your questions. This includes emailing back and forth or even using video chat so that you can see where the puppies are kept and how other people who have bought from this breeder interacted with them. Price should not be your first priority when looking for boxer breeders in Kentucky. A responsible boxer breeder in Kentucky should be able to give you the names and phone numbers of people who have purchased puppies from them. The best breeders are usually focused on making sure that their pups go home with loving families, so they want to make sure that anyone who buys one of their dogs is responsible. When you do call these people up, ask about the process of buying their pup. If they had any issues or concerns with the breeder, this should be brought up during your conversation. If you follow these steps, you should have no problem finding the right person or place to buy your new puppy from. Meeting past customers will give you a chance to talk to people who have already bought their boxer from this breeder. Talk to them about the process of buying their puppy, and ask if they had any concerns or issues with the breeder in question. There are many Boxer breeders in Kentucky that care about their animals and will only sell their pups to ethical homes. Do your research before you visit anyone, make sure you visit the location of the puppies if possible or speak over video chat , and make sure that all references are checked before agreeing on a purchase or payment. You should ask your breeder the name of the veterinarian they use. You may call and ask for a reference from that vet if needed. A board-certified veterinary surgeon or specialist is a good choice for a dog with orthopedic problems. Hip dysplasia is common in dogs and often requires surgery. It may seem like an off-the-wall question at first because you are just looking for a Boxer Puppy but remember that this dog will be part of your family for many years to come so it is important that he is healthy. The cost of having your Boxer examined by a Veterinarian should not influence your decision on where to buy your puppy from. Although you are excited to welcome your new family member into your home, spending a few hours preparing will ensure that both you and your pup have a safe and comfortable environment in which to play. If you already have a crate at home that you use for traveling or other purposes, this would be an ideal time to introduce him to his new box. While in the cage, give him some toys and treats so he will get accustomed to spending time inside until he gets older. It will also give him a place to call his own and create a den-like environment inside the crate. Try acquiring different types of toys like fuzzy stuffed animals or rubber balls that he can easily pick up in his mouth. Of course, make sure not to leave any type of chew toy unsupervised because accidents can occur if they are eaten by mistake. Since puppies often like to sink their teeth into something during playtime. If the area where he will spend most of his time is accessible to him, such as a bedroom or living room, this would be an ideal place to begin. Remember, patience is a key element to successfully training your Boxer puppy. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. Viewed times 1 We just got a 10 week old french bulldog puppy. At night when we go to bed we crate her so she can't get into any trouble while we're sleeping. Now I know puppies don't have fully developed bladders and bowels and may need to get up at least once in the night to go to the bathroom however our girl is going about every 2 hours all night long. She will whine once she's gone poop or pee to let us know that her crate is dirty, we have to get up, pick her up and take her to her puppy pad, usually clean feces off her, then go back and remove her bedding from the crate, wash it with soap and water, put new bedding back in it, then go get her and put her back. Of course she never goes on her pad because at that point she's already emptied herself. Some nights she only pees in her crate, some nights she only poops in her crate and some nights she poops and pee's in her crate. Typically we feed her around am, Noon, and we were feeding her at 7 pm but we moved her last feeding till earlier 5 pm in hopes it would give her more time to evacuate before going to bed. At this point we're going on day 7 with barely any sleep and a bit frazzled. I know some of this is to be expected but this seems a bit extreme. The other thing is that she's not going to the bathroom much in the day. We try to encourage her to go but she typically won't go more than a couple times during the day. I'd say she's peeing and pooping more and night than during the day. Her stool is a little loose - its not diarrhea but its not firm. We're feeding her the same food the breeder we bought her from was feeding her - which is Authority Puppy - Chicken and Rice Kibble. The other thing is that we suspect she may be eating her feces which we're trying to discourage. I don't know if we need to give her more time to get settled in and get used to her routine, if maybe we should remove her bedding from the crate, maybe we should switch her food to something else, try and exercise her more? Or maybe there's something medically wrong and we need to see the vet. Any advice would be much appreciated. Crates can also help you reduce puppy separation anxiety by giving your dog a comfortable, safe place to hang out when they want to get away from constant sound and movement around the house. However, you may not experience the full benefits of crate training if your puppy keeps peeing in their crate. That said, here are a few tips to stop your puppy from peeing in their crate. There are many conditions that can cause your puppy to urinate more frequently, including urinary tract infections. You may notice your dog pees in their crate more when suffering from separation anxiety or when you have loud guests over. A vet may recommend anxiety dog training with a trainer to help your puppy with their behavioral issues. Some dogs are also more prone to peeing in their crates. For example, intact males like to mark their belongings. Properly crate train your puppy Crate training your dog is the best way to potty train them and prevent accidents. Keep in mind that puppies should not be left in their crate for extended periods of time. Remember, a crate should be a happy place for your pup, not a scary one. Create a potty schedule Dogs are creatures of habit, and they thrive on schedules, just like humans. Your pup can typically hold their urine for a few hours, about the number of months in age plus one. Unfortunately, most people are gone for more than five hours a day at work, so you can expect some accidents when trying to potty train your puppy. A lot of accidents in crates happen overnight. If this is the case, you should take your puppy outside right before bed and as soon as possible in the morning. Choosing the right size is necessary for proper house and crate training. Your dog should also easily be able to turn around in it. Clean accidents thoroughly Have you ever noticed that your dog likes to go potty in certain places? Dogs like to urinate and defecate in the same spots, even indoors. Cleaning accidents thoroughly can prevent them from urinating in the same spot to re-mark. Unfortunately, pet urine is hard to clean, especially on carpet. If your puppy has an accident, grab your enzymatic cleaner, a rag, and a paper towel. Then, soak up the urine with a paper towel. Reinforce good behavior You should never yell at your puppy for having an accident, as this can lead to behavioral issues and anxiety. If you catch your dog in the act, rush them outside as soon as possible. When your dog goes potty outside, reinforce their good behavior with treats within 1 to 2 seconds of them eliminating outside. If you need support with this task, take your pup to the vet. A veterinarian can create a treatment plan for your dog and discuss whether a trainer is the best course of action based on their behavior. Some dogs may urinate in their crates because of behavioral issues, so a behavioral pet trainer can help you learn about underlying issues that can contribute to accidents in the house. While you may believe your puppy is being devious by peeing in their crate, puppies can soil their crates for a variety of reasons. Remember, young dogs cannot hold their urine all night, so plan to wake up in the middle of the night to take your dog outside. Health issues Health issues, such as UTIs and anxiety, can cause your dog to pee in their crate. UTIs, in particular, make it difficult for your dog to hold their urine, and urinating is often painful. Instead, ensure you have the proper size crate for your pet to deter accidents. If your dog has a negative experience with their crate, they may be afraid of it and associate it with punishment. However, if your puppy continues to have accidents after months of training, you should talk to a vet or a trainer who can help you learn why your dog is peeing in their crate and what to do about it. What do I do if my puppy pees in their crate? If your puppy pees in their crate, always clean the urine with an enzymatic cleaner to remove any lingering odor. Instead, they can pee in their crates because of behavioral and physical illnesses. Are small dogs harder to house train than large dogs? Some dogs can be house trained quickly, while others may require more time. In fact, one study suggests that small dogs are more difficult to house train when compared to larger dogs. While your dog can have accidents due to medical conditions, they most likely need proper training. Remember, never scold your dog; instead, reward them for good behavior. Instead, you can receive treatment and expert advice while at home to keep your pet happy and healthy. Published on Jun 10, and updated at Apr 05, .But from time to time, accidents happen, and some dogs may frequently pee in their crates for one or more reasons. However, dogs and especially young puppies may still occasionally pee in their crates, especially during the earliest weeks and months of crate training. In truth, your dog may be peeing in their crate for several reasons. Similarly, a dog could pee in their crate if the daily routine is messed up in some way. Dogs generally love daily routines, especially since it tells them when they can expect to go to the bathroom. If the routine is messed up, such as by you forgetting to take them on a walk, they could pee in their crate out of necessity. Bladder Control Issues In some cases, your puppy might just have bladder control problems and you are leaving them in their crate for too long. Generally, puppies can hold their urine for one hour for each month of their age. For example, if your puppy is two months old, you should only expect them to be able to hold their bladders for two hours maximum. You should let adult dogs out to take care of business at least three to five times per day. The most common reason for this is separation anxiety. Dogs who have become used to the constant presence of their pet parents may urinate as a fearful reaction when they leave or are out of sight. This may be more common if the dog is left in their crate at home alone while the parent goes to work. Separation anxiety and other behavioral problems are often grown out of, but they can also be trained away with positive reinforcement and encouragement. Professional pet training may also assist if your dog resists other behavioral fixes. Medical Problems Lastly, some dogs may pee in their crates because of medical issues. For example, if your dog has a bladder infection, their ability to hold their urine could be compromised and they may pee more frequently as a result. If you think your dog is having a medical issue that makes them pee in their crate, contact a veterinarian right away. There are four big things you can do to alleviate the majority of crate-peeing incidents. This tip is best for puppies who may have difficulty controlling their bladder in the earliest months of life. They can do their business in half of the crate, then go to the clean half of the crate to go back to sleep. At this early age, your dog is likely small enough that everything can fit in the crate until morning. Once your puppy is old enough, you can remove the pee pad and they should be able to hold their bladder until morning. This may also be good for older dogs who are experiencing incontinence or other issues, especially in the middle of the night. However, be sure that your dog can comfortably fit in the dog crate with the pee pad before relying on the solution long-term. Exercise Your Dog Going on a morning walk with your dog is a good rule of thumb for lots of reasons. It gives you and your pup some fresh air, exercises your dog and gives them a chance to stretch their legs, and gives them an opportunity to go to the bathroom. If you only take your dog outside to urinate, then bring them right back in, they might try to hold their bladder so they get to spend more time smelling interesting things outdoors. Take your dog on a quick walk at a minimum. With time, they may stop peeing in their crate as a result. Set a Strict Daily Routine As noted earlier, dogs love routines. The best way to get your dog to stop peeing in their crate is to give them a routine they can count on. For example, if you always take your dog out at certain times of the day to go to the bathroom, they will gladly hold their bladder and wait for the right opportunity to pee. Visit a Vet If your dog has any medical issues, the only real solution is to visit a vet. Say that your dog has a bladder infection. In that case, your veterinarian will have to prescribe your dog antibiotics or other dog medications to take care of the problem. Summary Ultimately, your dog might be peeing in their crate for several reasons. But the good news is you can always help your dog overcome this issue and sleep comfortably in their dog bed with a few strategies and fixes. Many trainers and experienced dog owners recommend using a crate to potty train your new puppy. This works wonders for many dogs and is the technique that I personally use. But what do you do when your dog continues to have accidents inside the crate? There are solutions to this common conundrum! Read on to learn some of the best ways to put an end to this perplexing problem and help your dog enjoy a dry crate! Once you know your dog has a clean bill of health, you can move on to training and management solutions. This means doing things like ensuring the crate is the proper size, providing more bathroom breaks, and providing more positive reinforcement when your doggo tinkles outside. Have other kinds of nocturnal problems? We can help: Check out our guide to stopping a puppy from whining at night! Your dog needs to be both comfortable in the crate and comfortable alone before we can expect accidents to go away. If she panics when left alone or is otherwise uncomfortable while in her crate, she may urinate out of fear. This might sound like overkill, but many cases of tricky potty training come back to medical issues! It could be that your beloved pup is suffering from a canine urinary tract infection UTI or some other medical condition. A simple checkup or urine test may not catch some of these concerns! This is especially important to check on if your dog previously was fine in the crate, but is now suddenly having accidents. Just schedule an appointment with your vet. Crates that are too small are just cruel, and crates that are too large increase the chances that your dog will use one corner for lounging and another corner for peeing. For my puppy, I used a large pet pen with a litter box and pine pellets. He weaned off the litter box in just a few weeks, but it saved me lots of cleaning when he was a little baby or I was ultra-busy! If you think it is too big, consider picking up a new crate in a more appropriate size or blocking off a portion of the crate to effectively make it smaller. A few of the reasons dogs may still pee in their crate after adjusting the size include: Your dog has already made a habit of peeing in her crate. If your dog is already accustomed to peeing in the crate, downsizing might not help. Your dog was produced by a puppy mill. Dogs that were rescued or purchased from a puppy mill or pet store are morel likely to struggle with peeing in the crate. This illustrates yet another reason to avoid supporting puppy mills! Your dog is a small breed. Unfortunately, potty-training problems of all kinds are more common with small dog breeds. This is part of the reason crate-training is so effective. But some dogs particularly those who are hanging out in a crate that is too large learn that they can tinkle, and then cover the mess with the crate bedding. Step 4: Give Your Dog More Bathroom Breaks Many dogs that pee in their crates are still puppies or adolescents, while others are simply small dogs. This points to a simple and common flaw in your crate-training regime: your schedule. Simply put, you need to take more potty breaks! A good general rule of thumb for puppies is that they can hold their pee for their age in months, translated to hours. So, a 6-month old puppy should be able to hold her pee for six hours. But remember: This is just a rule of thumb, and some dogs simply need more frequent chances to potty. Ultimately, if your dog is struggling with bladder control, try taking your dog out for twice as many potty breaks. For example, we said above that a 6-month puppy should be able to hold her pee for six hours. I suggest creating a schedule and setting timers on your phone. If this stops your dog from peeing in the crate, then gradually start to increase the time intervals. Dogs do not naturally know not to pee inside. Most will hold their pee inside of an appropriately sized crate, but there are always exceptions. Once again, this illustrates the importance of properly crate-training your doggo at the outset. Keep in mind the general once-per-hour-per-month rule, but this only works up to about 8 hours or so. Do you just open up the screen door, let her do her business, and call her back inside for dinner? When she exhibits a desirable behavior peeing outside, in this case , you need to reward her! Just understand that you must reward her immediately with some high-quality training treats. So yes, this means carrying treats with you whenever you go outside a handy treat pouch will make this much easier. If you implement these rewards reliably, you might start noticing that your dog tries to fake you out and squat for treats. I still do this with my adult dog — potty training is really important to me. Step 7: Film Your Dog For Behavioral Concerns One of the most concerning reasons for a dog to pee in her crate is separation anxiety or isolation distress. At Journey Dog Training , I often ask my clients to set up a video camera you can use your phone, laptop, or a fancy dog camera that even shoots out treats to see if the dog is suffering from some kind of extreme anxiety that is resulting in urination. Many folks set up cameras as in the video below to see what their dog is up to during the day. Crate peeing is a common side effect of this type of distress. Separation anxiety and isolation distress are really, really tough problems to crack and they often require professional assistance. So, speak to a certified dog behavior consultant or reputable, force-free trainer if you think that your dog struggles with either of these problems. And this illustrates one of the most important reasons to avoid punishing your dog for accidents — she is not doing it maliciously. Need Faster Relief? Renovate Your Crate! Crate training can be a high-pressure endeavor. When I am potty-training puppies or foster dogs, I no longer rely on a crate I used to! Instead, consider a Puppy Palace. Using a large pet gate I like the Carlson Pet Products locking yard , create a dog-proofed area with a comfy bed inside a crate, toys, chew toys, water, and a litter box. Your pup will slowly start to crate-train herself by choosing to sleep in the extra—comfy bed in the crate. But if she needs a potty break, she can take herself to the litter box. This means no more baths, endless laundry cycles, or even infections from lying in her own urine. With most dogs, I use grass or pine pellets for the litter box. Most dogs will quickly gravitate towards the absorbent option. With most dogs this takes less than a few weeks. Renovating the crate is a more humane and practical option if you expect accidents will happen, rather than stubbornly insisting that you and your pup deal with the mess of peeing in the crate! Who wants to come home to a sad, pee-covered dog every day? You might want to explore other options beyond leaving your dog in their crate if: Your dog is a small breed or a puppy and you work long hours. You suspect your dog suffers from separation anxiety or isolation distress. You might need some other options while she heals up, or the health issues might be an ongoing lifelong issue. Nothing else is helping to stop your dog from peeing in the crate. There are lots of options beyond leaving your dog in her crate all day. Some options will work better for some dogs. Doggie daycare will provide your pupperino will get plenty of exercise and social interaction, coupled with regular potty breaks. Doggie daycare does have its downsides, though. It can be expensive, and some doggie daycares are better than others. Be sure to shop around to find an option that works for you, your budget, and your dog! Use potty pads and a doggie playpen. Hire a dog walker. Pin1 1 Shares Owning a French Bulldog certainly comes with its challenges, particularly during the puppy stages. You can expect to be cleaning pee and poop up and having a constant eye on what they are up to. But the same can also apply with adult Frenchies who might keep peeing in the house, or even urinating far too much than would be considered normal. Why does my French Bulldog keep peeing in the house? Some French Bulldogs will continue to pee in the house up to 8 months old. Adult Frenchies who are still peeing everywhere could do so due to stress, routine changes, an underlying health issue or have frequent urination due to medication they are on. In this guide I am going to explain why French Bulldogs continue to pee in your home, even after puppyhood. It also contains details on how long you can expect a Frenchie to hold their bladder, and what to expect with puppies in the potty-training phase. My French Bulldog is peeing everywhere It personally took us 8 months before Claude would stop peeing everywhere. This included peeing in his crate, on our carpets, and even on our bed even after we thought he was completely house-trained. He can hold his bladder for hours and will go through the night with no problems. You can read my guide to house training your puppy on the link below. Handy Hint: Want to know how to stop your puppy peeing in your house? The first steps will be to potty train him. You can read my step by step guide to potty training. The bottom line is; puppies do pee more than adult dogs so expect to have a lot of accidents everywhere in your house during the younger months. My adult French Bulldog is peeing in the house However, some French Bulldogs will continue to pee in the house as adults. There will also be some cases where it starts suddenly, completely out of nowhere, taking you by surprise. Handy Hint: If you suspect your Frenchie is marking his territory in your house, then please read this guide to French Bulldog territorial marking instead. Vets say that there are some common issues why dogs start peeing suddenly including: Reasons you might be able to control 1. That can be for reasons as diverse as a child moving out, a separation in a marriage, or a death in the family. I know of one Frenchie owner whose dog started peeing everywhere when her older dog passed away. Whilst Frenchies are better in pairs , when once dies, it can cause a lot of problems for the surviving dog. Frenchies are better in pairs, but if one dies the other one can start peeing in the house and urinating more frequently. Frenchies are social animals who want to be part of the pack so when something changes in that pack, behavioural problems can start. Changes in the home environment or routine Even the simplest of changes in a home environment can lead to a change in the frequency and place that your Frenchie urinates. The most common reason is a house move. All this uncertainty and fear can result in peeing indoors. But it can also happen when you redecorate. One Frenchie owner I spoke to had a problem with her dog peeing in the kitchen after a refurbishment. French Bulldogs, like any dogs, are creatures of habit. A change to their routine can also mean they start to change their toilet habits. Over time this should stop, but the French Bulldog will need time to adapt and be made comfortable in the new surroundings. Excessive peeing due to stress, excitement and submission Many dogs will pee a little bit when they are excited. This little bit of leakage is nothing to be overly concerned about, and in most cases will subside as the puppy reaches adulthood. However, some older Frenchies will also have this. Dogs will submissively urinate to show you that they are not a threat. If you feed your dog canned food, then he will be taking on more water than normal. And what goes in, must come out, meaning your Frenchie could be getting caught short indoors and having to relieve his bladder quickly. Other dog foods can have high salt content. A dog who consumes more salt than they should will by default, drink more… and the more he drinks, the more he might pee inside the house. Taking on too much water It could be as simple as your French Bulldog is drinking too much water. The rule of thumb for Frenchies is that they should drink one ounce of water for every pound of body weight daily. The average male French Bulldog weighs 28 pounds so many Frenchies can drink up to 28 ounces of water a day. French Bulldog puppies will pee everywhere, and more so after they have been drinking a lot of water. Of course, there are other factors at play which will determine how much they drink including the climate for example in hot weather , whether they eat dry food, salty food, exercise levels, and health. Handy Hint: If your Frenchie is drinking too much water it could mean they are no longer able to hold their bladder for longer than the typical 8 to hour limit. Peeing due to separation anxiety Frenchies need a lot of attention and cannot be left alone for long periods of time. If they are left home alone, separation anxiety can result in frequent urination inside of your home. Research has been done to find out how frequently dogs will urinate when owners are absent and the types and frequency of reactions to thunderstorms, fireworks, and other noises. I also shot a video explaining more on Frenchie separation anxiety and a supporting web guide explaining what you can do to help with it. Low oestrogen levels Older French Bulldogs may not be able to hold their pee if they have low oestrogen levels. This results in hormone incontinence where indoor peeing becomes more problematic. It is particular common with dogs who have been spayed and neutered as their low oestrogen levels lead to a loss of muscle tone in the bladder areas. Age related diseases Kidney disease and cognitive dysfunction syndrome can affect older French Bulldogs causing them to either lose control of their bladders, urinating more than usual, and becoming incontinent. Other health problems I found a large list of other potential health problems that can make a French Bulldog urinate more frequently including: Adrenal and thyroid dysfunction. Anything from a more consistent routine to a new treat-dispensing toy could be the difference between cleaning up a puddle or coming home to a happy pup. Recommended Videos J. Many medical issues could cause a dog to lose control of their bladder, not all of which are obvious or even noticeable. Dogs are notorious for hiding their discomfort, after all. A few reasons your dog might not be able to hold it include: Urinary tract disorders, including urinary tract infections, prostate diseases, etc. Neurological issues, including spinal injury and nerve damage Bladder storage issues Urine retention due to stress, pain, etc. If you have a crate that your dog is still growing into, you can purchase a crate divider panel to make the space a little smaller. For a schedule to truly help your dog, you need to understand how long he can comfortably control his bladder. This time will vary from dog to dog — breed, age, and health are just a few of the factors that affect this. Dogs should be taken out for a potty break three to five times a day on average, though this number is likely to go up for smaller dogs, puppies, and seniors. Separation anxiety is common in pups with a history of abuse, though any dog can become anxious when left alone. If your dog urinates in front of you, however, you can likely rule this out. You can make his crate more comfortable by tossing in a favorite toy, a fluffy bed, or even a shirt that smells like you. Better yet, fill up a treat-releasing toy for a long-lasting distraction. Up to at least six months of age, your animal will almost certainly need a middle-of-the-night pee. It can help to bring the crate into the bedroom so you wake up when she needs a potty break. Many dogs will whine, pace, or bark when they need to go out, even late at night. If you have a particularly young puppy at home, he might need a while longer to grow and keep house training before he is continually successful. To determine how long your puppy can hold his urine on average , add 1 to the number of months in his age — this is how many hours you should expect him to be in control of his bladder. Some dogs need more time to get used to their crate, while others need to be house-trained more thoroughly. Good things take time! When in doubt, your trusted vet will have many ideas and resources to help you get started. Pee-free crate time will be so much nicer for everyone, so why not begin now? Editors' Recommendations.

Whether you call them Micro Goldendoodles, Micro Petite Goldendoodles, Toy Goldendoodles, Teacup Goldendoodles; they all have the same great personality as their larger Goldendoodle ancestors in a cute small little package. Here at Hilltop Pups, we only breed Poodles with English Golden Retrievers for their excellent health record with an average life span of years. Absolutely no other breeds mixed in to rush the downsizing. Downsizing takes several generations by breeding in a smaller size poodle every 2 to 3 generations to retain the English Golden Retriever personality. Our smallest poodle here is 3 lbs. Since Hilltop Pups team is creating and perfecting the smallest Goldendoodles along with the increasingly popular Irish English Goldendoodles; we have our own size range chart of the average sizes we have witnessed in the past 20 years of breeding. Until an organization such as AKC or CKC identifies Goldendoodles as an official breed, no organization can state what the size standards are as they vary so greatly with breeders breeding American or English Golden Retrievers, plus the range of poodle sizes from lbs. Although Goldendoodles are not considered a Purebred dog breed; it is still important to register your puppy with a reputable canine tracking organization. This will allow breeders to have the information necessary to make responsible breeding decisions. I am an official Preferred Breeder by the strict Breeding Standards set forth by CKC which has the best pedigrees for tracking ancestors for breeding purposes. There are many Designer Dog Registries, but I prefer one of the two largest reputable groups. The English lines create the Teddy Bear look. This is our house, not a public shopping center. We require appointments to visit as you do want to make sure we are home and able to focus our attention on you and have adequate time for you to interact with the puppies. This is not a large place; the visitation area can get crowded quickly if more than one family is visiting at a time. Our visitation Room does have windows on two sides, so you can see where and how all our adult dogs are housed. It is very important to stay as close to your scheduled arrival time as possible, give yourself that extra half hour for traffic concerns. We are at Eastern Time. Jasper is an aesthetically pleasing clean town of 15, and always rated at the top of the best places to live listings. How amazing it would be for AKC to do this; it is up to Breeders to commit to keeping their breed healthy going forward by health testing the parent dogs. Which believe me very few Breeders invest their money back into their dogs; so always demand copies of health testing prior to even submitting a deposit. DO Not trust Breeders that say they will provide the documents when the puppy goes home, demand proof up front. It is a nightmare to try to get paperwork from a Breeder after you have the puppy, because they do not have it. The Breeder is pulling on your emotions knowing you are getting attached to the puppy and then you are stuck with no proof that you have a healthy puppy that will live a long healthy life. Breeders never to rarely give you the correct documents after you have the puppy, learn from heart breaking experiences of having to re-home dogs that couldn't pass health screening. My research, commitment, and due diligence has paid off. Here is the foundation for creating the perfect Teddy Bear Goldendoodle and how to build conformity into the Breed. At Hilltop Pups we DNA test the coat type of all our dogs so we can create the most non-shedding hypoallergenic coat as possible. I follow this DNA rule when breeding to make sure my dogs are non-shedding. No guess work involved here; You can brush them and not even get hair to pull out. Next, we only breed with English Retrievers which produce a softer less shedding less matting coat than the coarser American Golden Retriever coats. The weight range of English Golden Retrievers that I have owned is for female and for males, although they look just and big and fluffier than the American Golden Retrievers. Next, we consider the color genetics behind the poodle: Reds-, browns-, and cream-colored poodles produce soft non-shedding coats. White, Gray, and Black poodles produce shredders even in the curly dogs; thus, they have been removed from Hilltop Pups breeding program. In we started breeding the Irish Goldendoodles. I am very pleased with what I have seen in the Irish Goldendoodles. Therefore, I only breed English Golden Retrievers as their life expectancy is years and very few ever have cancer. It takes a few generations to build the dark red poodle color back into the English Goldendoodles since the English Golden Retrievers are only white to cream. For the Irish we started with breeding a health tested American Golden Retriever to a health tested Irish Setter to get the hybrid vigor and dark red color; then bred that with a health tested male poodle and then back to another health tested poodle creating the F1b Irish Goldendoodles to ensure the hypo allergenic non-shed coats, plus get the dark red color and fabulous coats. Advantages of adopting an English Goldendoodle from Hilltop Pups Size range available 8 - 38 pounds Predictable size ranges for F2b and multi-Generations Hypoallergenic if past the F1 First generation, because we can DNA test the coat types for breeding. About Our Miniature Goldendoodles Our Miniature Goldendoodles are an exceptional hybrid breed, resulting from a purebred Golden Retriever and a miniature poodle cross. At maturity, they typically average 25 lbs. Our mini puppies embody the best characteristics of their parent breeds, including the amiable temperament of the Golden Retriever and the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the miniature poodle, making them ideal allergy-friendly pets. While our puppies are generally low shedding, some shedding may occur when the puppy coat transitions into the adult coat. Our female, Paislee, has abstract pups. Our puppies are wormed at weeks 4, 5, and 6 and receive their first puppy vaccine at 6 weeks. Before leaving our possession, each puppy undergoes a veterinary check to ensure their health. If any issues are detected, we will assist you in moving your deposit to another litter, if you choose to do so. If you wish to purchase a puppy for the purpose of breeding multiple litters, the cost is double the pet price. Our Happy Clients Our puppies have found loving homes all across the country. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. What IS a Bernedoodle? These are NOT mutts which implies a breeding between unknown breeds or not carefully planned. These are designer breeds that are bred for a specific purpose. We produce an incredible bernedoodle that displays the qualities of both our champion line Standard Poodles and the Bernese Mountain Dog pedigrees. The advantage of a carefully planned mixed breed is that you get the added advantage of a phenomenon called "hybrid vigor". This process shuffles new combinations of genes that helps to increase longevity and decrease the usual ailments that impact many purebred dogs such as various forms of inherited types of cancer not all cancers have a genetic basis such as small and large cell lymphoma which is usually a result from environmental exposure. The bernedoodles are super healthy and are not as prone to the same issues that Bernese mountain dogs and standard poodles are. As a result, you have a family member for a lot longer and that will live a vibrant and healthy life if properly cared for diet, exercise, and family integration are all important components toward helping the dog to live a long happy life with you.You can see the links above about the qualities of Standard Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs as both are extraordinary breeds in their own right and for many, purebreds of these may be a great option as well. We prefer the Bernedoodle as they get the best of both breeds, incredibly loyal, goofy, smart, playful, intelligent, and has one of the best dog personalities we have seen in a family dog. The Premier F1 Standard Bernedoodle is a low- to mostly nonshedding we use standard poodles that do not carry the improper coat alleles and Bernese mountain dogs that have thick wavy curly coats. If you want a guarantee on non shedding, then you should try to select an F1b or F1bb bernedoodle. Both look amazingly similar to the F1 standard bernedoodles but maybe a little smaller. We will produce about 2 F1b and F1bb standard bernedoodle litters per year for those wanting a more curly coat in their bernedoodles. Premier Bernedoodles love to be with the family and do not do well in enviroments of isolation. Wherever the family is, that's right where they want to be. They are stunning dogs, and you'll likely get alot of attention and people asking you what kind of dog you have. They are beautiful and along with their incredibly gentle personalities, you will have an absolutely stunning dog. They are a perfect companion dog that love to go on walks through the city or hikes in the woods or mountains or a swim at the beach. They love it all and will be at your side the entire time. They don't tend to wander away as they prefer to be with you. They equally love just hanging out with you on the couch watching your favorite movie or watching you reading a book. They really love it all as long as you're a part of it. They are so loyal to the family. Bernedoodle puppies do have energy like most puppies, and this will continue thru about years of age at which time they really mellow out. They are not nervous nor hyper but will need some off leash time where they can really stretch their legs and run. The old motto "a tired puppy is a good puppy" always prevails! Just make sure they have a lot of fresh water and a cool spot to cool off afterward. Due to the the recombination and shuffling of new genetic variations, they do show some variation in their coloration however they also all have a common morphology that tells you it's a bernedoodle. Although we do take deposits on a first come, first pick basis, we will know the puppies well, their personalities, and can help select a puppy that best fits your lifestyle and what you are looking for. We only use Standard Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs to produce our Premier Bernedoodles so that any dog we accept into our Premier Bernedoodle program have passed stringent health tests, display family oriented personalities, and exhibit the best of conformation so that our bernedoodles are absolutely beautiful. Be very cautious when purchasing a purebred or bernedoodle without doing your due diligence as the puppies will always be cute, but will exhibit the personalities of the bloodline used later in life. Therefore, use a reptutable breeder that has invested in the dogs they use for their breeding programs and that raise them as their own family members. They should be able to produce their pedigrees as well, and should have both parents on site so you can see how they react to you. We are very Type A when it comes to the quality of dogs which makes it more difficult to give referrals. We are always going to be biased and believe that the wait for a Premier Bernedoodle is worth it and you'll be very happy you did! Also you can visit your local humane society and help rescue a dog at the shelter. If you have young kids be sure to get a younger dog from the shelter that can adapt to your family. But if you're looking for a unique new family member, a Premier Bernedoodle will be a true delight. Colors and Fur Our Premier Bernedoodles will be traditional tri-color much like a Bernese Mountain Dog , abstract tricolor similar to a traditional tricolor with less white in the face , sable similar to a traditional tri-color but has more reddish-browns due to the poodle genetics we use , phantom, merle, merle tricolor, or bi-colored brown and white, black and white, or shades thereof. Our F1b's will consist of black and whites, traditional tricolors, abstract tricolors, and lots of variable brown and reddish brown and whites. Color never reflects temperament and personality so usually most people don't really care too much what color they are. They are all really beautiful. Although there's variation due to the hybrid vigor present as a result of the recombination of genes in many arrays, there is definitely a bernedoodle appearance that is fairly consistent. If you let the hair grow, they will look like big shaggy dogs that you can't help but to give a big hug to. And they enjoy every minute of it! Our Premier Bernedoodles will tend to have wavy curly coats due to the coat types we require in our bernese mountain dogs which helps to minimize or eliminate shedding. We do make sure that our standard poodles do not carry the genetic marker known as the "Improper Coat" allele or IC for short. Wavy curly coats do require a little more grooming as compared to straight, but many, straight coats shed more.Although they are considered to be large, they don't act like a large dog in the house. They are generally very careful and calm natured as adults however they do have some puppy-fun energy thru the puppyhood stages and thru 3 years of age. They love people and other pets! We do thorough genetic testing of our adults that we use in our breeding program to assure that you are purchasing the healthiest of bernedoodle puppies. Our Bernese mountain dogs come from very long-lived blood lines in Western Europe and these longer lifespans is one of the many reasons we obtain our Berners from several specific populations known for their longevity. Obviously we can't guarantee lifespan as there are many variables outside of our control not to mention, environment, stress, climate, food, etc. But track record seems to show a longer lifespan. What's the Difference? An F1b is an F1 standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle or could be a backcross to a Bernese mountain dog but we generally use the poodle as the backcross. An F1bb is an F1b standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle. Behaviorally they are all very similar with the F1b and F1bb's being slightly smaller than our F1 standards and tend to have slightly curlier coats to a tight wave. If you're looking for a smaller standard Bernedoodle these would be a great option. Pictures are posted below with the other pictures. We continue to get lots of praise from those that have purchased our F1b and F1bb standard bernedoodles. Is the Bernedoodle for Everybody? I would like to think so, but if you do not plan on being with your bernedoodle and keeping it with you, in your home, as part of your home, this is definitely not the dog for you. They thrive on being with the family and not isolated we believe this is the case for all dogs, and especially bernedoodles. Any of our puppies kept in a permanent kennel situation, on a tether, or the like, will violate the terms and conditions of our puppy contract and will have to render the puppy or dog back to Premier Doodles see puppy contract in link above. We definitely support crate training, but these dogs are not meant to live their life in a crate nor kennel! If you want a pet that prefers to be in isolation, you may want to consider a nonsocial pet perhaps a Betta fish! Yes we have done a lot of the hard work the first 8 weeks as we do extensive early neurological stimulation bio-sensor and Puppy Culture program, along with starting crate training and housebreaking, BUT, they are puppies and will need your undivided attention for the next weeks as they work towards being completely housebroken and earning more privileges. They have been communicating with their siblings for the past 8 weeks using their mouth. During their normal daily interactions, you will occasionally hear a loud "yelp" in response to one biting another too hard. This yelp usually ends the mouthing behavior. Now puppies have fur and people generally do not. When you bring your bernedoodle home, they will likely display some degree of mouthing behavior toward their human family. This will usually stop this behavior. We then redirect their desire to mouth to something more appropriate like a chew toy and after a few seconds of cooperating we praise them. The good news.We have a Puppy Guide under our tab "Puppy Central" on how to unpack this process so that you can have success. If you put them time in early, they will have this knocked out in a few days. The rule of thumb is to get them outside ALOT.Be sure to purchase two Midwest XL crates can get from our Puppy Store , one for the back door and one next to your bed. The power of meiosis specialized cell division event that occurs in the reproductive organs, ovaries for females and testes for males and crossing over assures that each offspring will be diverse and different and this difference will be noticeable in color and a little bit in behavior. All will be superior, but some will be more playful and others less so, some will mouth more than others, etc. Available Puppies.Check out our "Available Puppies" tab at the top to find out how to get onto our Master List for a future puppy! Bernedoodles tend to be a great addition to any family! Although the Bernedoodle is not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other dog registries. As long as they are properly socialized, they tend to be open and friendly dogs that get along well with just about anyone. These dogs tend to do well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they can be initially wary and watchful at first, they even tend to warm up quickly to strangers once introduced. Bernedoodles are highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in homes with yards where they can run. Despite their size and energy, they can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise and attention. These dogs tend to handle the cold better than the heat; you may even have some trouble getting them to come back inside after some playtime in the snow. Because Bernedoodles bond so closely with their families and enjoy nothing more than being around them, they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. They can also be prone to skin issues like sensitive skin, allergies, and hot spots. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Some facts about Bernedoodles are that they are a good fit for owners of any experience level and tend to pick up commands easily. Although they tend to grow out of this initial stubbornness with age, puppy training classes will certainly help with training and socialization early on. Bernedoodles tend to have a longer coat that ranges from curly to wavy. Although they tend to be non-shedding, they still need a lot of maintenance to keep their coat looking great. Daily brushing to remove tangles and prevent mats along with grooming every weeks are recommended. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Brushing daily along and cleanings at the vet as needed are an ideal start to a good dental care routine for your Bernedoodle. Standard Bernedoodles can range from moderate to high energy. They tend to sit in a more moderate activity range and have bursts of higher energy when they play. These dogs are known to play hard and energetically until they are tired, but are not usually considered high-energy dogs. Daily walks plus playtime and some time to run should be enough for a Bernedoodle. But, these dogs will likely be up for more activity if you are. They will love the opportunity to spend more time being active with you. A fully-grown Standard Bernedoodle usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. Victorian Bulldogs are slightly larger, tend to be a little bit lighter in the chest, and have a slightly longer snout. Victorian Bulldogs might look a little intimidating, but they are loyal and reliable sweethearts with a gentle nature that make a great family companion. They are very affectionate and thrive on human attention and companionship. They are excellent guard dogs that are known for their courage and protective instincts. They are also great with children and other pets and are naturally gentle with them. They can be suspicious of other dogs if they are not socialized properly. This dog breed may drool a little and snore, but they are a loving and dedicated companion that will love spending time with you. The Victorian Bulldog is a moderately adaptable dog breed. They do well in larger homes and can also adapt well to apartment living as long as they get enough attention and exercise. They tend to be less active indoors, which makes them a good fit for apartment dwellers. They do best in moderate climates as they get cold easily and do not handle heat very well. Victorian Bulldogs also crave human companionship and attention, so they will not do well with long periods of time alone. This is a hardy dog breed that is relatively healthy. Although they are bred specifically to avoid many of the genetic diseases common to Bulldogs, there are some conditions to be aware of including skin problems, cherry eye, entropion, or hip and elbow dysplasia. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and also to see any health clearances can help allay concerns about potential health issues. The Victorian Bulldog is sensitive, intelligent, and eager to please. They tend to pick up training quickly and relate well to their humans. This makes them a highly trainable dog breed and a good fit for owners of any experience level. They respond best to gentle, positive, and rewards-based training. This dog breed has a moderate grooming level and is an average shedder. Common coat colors are red, brindle, fawn, solid white, or pied. They have a shorthaired coat of fine, smooth fur that requires minimal grooming. Bulldogs are known for their wrinkly faces, which need to be cleaned regularly to avoid irritated skin or infections. Gently cleaning inside the wrinkles each day with a damp cloth will help keep your Victorian Bulldog comfortable and prevent skin problems. In addition to coat and skin care, there are other grooming tasks that every dog needs, like nail trimming, regular ear checks, and dental care. Monthly nail trimming is usually sufficient to keep nails from getting too long. Ears that flop over can trap dirt, debris, and moisture, which can lead to ear infections. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Dental hygiene chews and a dental care diet can help supplement your dental care efforts. Getting them used to regular grooming tasks and keeping it a positive experience makes grooming much easier as your dog grows. It can even become a bonding experience that calms and relaxed both of you! Victorian Bulldogs have a moderate activity level. They can sometimes act like couch potatoes when they are indoors, but they still need some regular exercise every day to stay happy and healthy. A few walks a day with some playtime or time to run around is sufficient for this stocky pup. Although they are more athletic than their English Bulldog cousins, they still have a short snout, so they can get overheated easily. A fully-grown Victorian Bulldog usually stands between inches tall at the shoulders and weighs between pounds. A Victorian Bulldog generally lives years. The Victorian Bulldog was bred to recreate the appearance of the Bulldog breed from the early 19th century, so it looks more like the Bulldogs from years ago than those of today. Exercise Grooming The Victorian Bulldog began to spread far and wide after Ken Mollet who loved the bulldogs greatly, decided to create a healthier breed of the dogs. It took awhile for him to achieve the result he wanted and much later he was working on his breed alone. Ken Mollet used breeds recognized by the Kennel Clubs and Healthy dogs developed by prominent dog breeders. He used Bullmastiffs, Staffords and Dogue de Bordeaux in his bid to accomplish this mission and used any source he could obtain the perfect idea of how the bulldogs looked like in Victorian times. In , Ken formed the Victorian Bulldog society. Today, many dog breeds are similar to it. However, its distinct attributes still make it distinguishable. The Victorian Bulldog is a lovable dog.
