For my dog Laika, aka the biting monster, we had a lot of success with the redirection method. Anytime she would get too rough and bite too hard I would grab a toy and encourage her to play with that instead. If she continued to try to go after my skin with those sharp teeth I would just stop playing altogether. But that can make things worse since moving objects are always going to be more interesting to a puppy than something still. Eventually I caught on, and that calmness kept my dog from going full on puppy assault mode. And by staying calm I was able to discourage her from biting me further. Eventually she started bringing toys to me when she was in a feisty mood, rather than grabbing onto my legs from the get go. Since your puppy is likely teething a good chew toy or two can help ease that discomfort as their adult teeth come in. One of the best ways to teach your puppy not to bite is by redirecting their attention onto a toy. Sign them up for puppy kindergarten or doggy daycare for awhile. This is one of the reasons why removing a pup from their litter before 8 weeks old is considered a big no no — that extra time with their littermates gives them a good foundation of bite inhibition to start with. It taught her that she could pee in that spot even without the mat. So we nixed those right away. We wanted to get her on a schedule as much as possible so we're taking her about 20 minutes after she would eat and drink. As a puppy, their bladders are really small. She was on a hour increment schedule even between eatings. So, for the first 2 months, we were running up and down the elevator and outside between times a day. It was less than ideal, but we made it work. The night time shifts we resorted to the Doggie Lawn. We always carried her out of the building in efforts to avoid her pooping in the corridors or peeing in the elevator. We also carried paper towel on us on the off chance we put her down and something would happen. Again, we got really lucky as G caught on pretty quickly. We kept the schedule consistent until she was no longer needing to go as frequently as she got bigger and smarter. Dog Crate - Though G doesn't sleep in her crate anymore, she travels in the car best when she's in her crate. We love this On-The-Go container for her.
