It is essential to ensure that you can house and take care of any puppy you adopt through its whole life. Figuring out what size a puppy Dalmador will grow into is tricky, though. Crossbreeding is not a sure science. When you mix two different breeds, they can inherit traits from both parents. This means that a Dalmador can either be around the size of a Dalmatian or the size of a lab. Labs typically weigh between 55 — 80 pounds, while Dalmatians are usually around 33 — 71 pounds. What should I bring to pick up my puppy? If the trip is going to be more than an hour, it is a good idea to bring some water for your puppy to drink and a crate to carry your puppy in. Plastic bags and paper towels are a good idea just in case the puppy gets car sick or needs to make a potty stop. When can I pick up my puppy? Puppies must be a minimum of 8 weeks old when they leave my home. If they need to stay longer because of work or vacation, etc. When is the puppies next vet appointment? In our contract we ask that you take your puppy to the vet within hrs of purchase. If the vet finds anything seriously wrong with the puppy you may bring it back at the buyers expense and we will replace the puppy or pay for the vet cost up to the price of the puppy see contract for details if you wish to keep it. If you do not take the puppy to the vet within 72hrs please note that our contract will then become null and void. The puppy will then go to the vet again around 9-wks no later than 10 wks of age for it's second set of shots. The puppy will go for it's final visit no later than weeks of age. Do your puppies shed? What about coat types? Any doodle breeder that does is not being truthful. Most first generation Goldendoodles shed lightly; some can have moderate shedding. Most F1 Goldendoodles will have plush, straight to loose wavy coat which makes grooming their coat much easier to maintain. Occasionally, a F1 breeding will produce a more curly coat. Our F1B cross puppies will have a higher success rate for being non-shedding dogs. Because of the curlier coat, their coats have to be groomed more often to prevent matting and are harder to maintain than an F1 coat. If you want a Goldendoodle that is low shed, you should be considering an F1B and not a first generation F1. While many F1's will shed less than purebred Golden Retrievers, the amount that they will shed cannot be predicted. Some F1's will be low shed, and some will not. Again, breeders who claim their F1 Goldendoodles are 'no shed' are either unknowledgeable or stretching the truth. If shedding is a concern for you, you may not be happy with an F1 and I would recommend an F1B. Many, but not all, F1B's are low shed. What about Allergies? First generation F1 Goldendoodles are not recommended for families with allergy issues. Breeders who claim their F1 Goldendoodles are 'hypoallergenic' or allergy friendly are either unknowledgeable or stretching the truth. While SOME F1's may be allergy friendly, there really is no way to predict which puppies are and which aren't. If you have allergies in your household you should consider an F1B goldendoodle. Although not every F1B will be allergy friendly, the chances are much higher. Can I breed my new puppy? We do this to protect our puppies and ensure they are being placed into loving "forever" homes. We do not allow visitation of our puppies until they are 8 weeks old and ready to go home. Are you considering getting a Goldendoodle or just someone curious about exactly what this new popular breed is? A Goldendoodle is a hybrid breed- a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. They have been bred in North American since about the early to mid nineties and they are growing more and more popular. Description of the Goldendoodle: Since the Goldendoodle is a cross between a Poodle and Golden Retriever, you might be wondering what they look like. The physical appearance can vary greatly according to what generation hybrid you have as well as what parents they were bred from. They can vary in color from cream, gold, tan, chocolate, grey, red, apricot, black, or a mix of any of these colors. Their coat can vary from a shaggy retriever-looking coat to a curly poodle or anywhere in between. Most Goldendoodles are a fair mix in between the two and are usually low to no shedding which also makes them great for families with allergies or high allergy risk. The length of the coat when left uncut usually falls between four to eight inches. Generations of the Goldendoodle: When you talk with a breeder about getting a Goldendoodle, you might hear about the generations of Goldendoodles. This refers to how the dog was bred. Size of the Goldendoodle: There are different sizes of Goldendoodles, based on the parentage of the dog in question. A good way to predict the size of puppies is to add the weight of the parents together and then divide by two. This is of course, just a general idea and there could be puppies that will fall above and below that line. While some standard Goldendoodles have grown to more than pounds, the average is as follows: Standard - A Goldendoodle that is predicted to be 45 lbs or more at adulthood. Petite - A Goldendoodle that is predicted to be lbs at adulthood. Living Conditions and Exercise Requirements: The Goldendoodle is a fairly easy to care for breed which is another thing that makes them so popular. They require a regular, moderate amount of exercise and fairly low coat maintenance depending on the type of coat. They are very social dogs and love to be around people and are also known for being great with children. The Goldendoodle can live in the city or on a farm with just as much comfort and ease. They are stronger than their parent breeds and live longer. The average life expectancy is around 15 years although some have been known to live longer. It is suggested that you have regular tests on the hips, eyes and for VWD to detect possible problems early on. Grooming: Goldendoodles need regular grooming and coat care as all dogs do but for most, the maintenance is minimal. For short to medium length coats, you will need very little care. Regular washings and brushings will do just fine. These are usually low allergen risk and safe for most families with mild allergies. Growling and Puppy biting One thing that often worries people who have a new puppy in the family, is the growling that accompanies puppy biting. It sounds horrific. Great snarls and snaps accompany the biting and the puppy can appear quite demonic as he grabs onto your skin, or clothes. Tugging away with all the strength he can muster. Prevention usually involves interrupting the biting behavior, then redirecting the puppy into an alternative and more acceptable behavior, such as chewing on a toy. Interrupting the puppy biting In mild cases you may simply be able to put a toy in your biting puppy's mouth and get him tugging on that instead of on your fingers. If you are on the floor with the puppy stand up. And if you are standing up, turn and walk away from the puppy. This is where dog gates come in very handy with small puppies. A standard baby gate works fine for most breeds of dog. Managing the puppy You may have to pick up your biting puppy to remove him from the scene if he is biting your children for example, rather than you If he bites your hands and clothes as you try to restrain him, put him on the other side of a barrier or in his crate or puppy playpen for a short while. It can be a good way of getting the training started so that you have chance to say YES and give the puppy the opportunity to learn what you want him to do. Over the next few sessions, you can work on getting your hand closer and closer to the puppy. Until you are brushing the sides of his face without him making any attempt to mouth or bite at you Progress to touching and holding his collar, stroking his ears, grooming him, examining his paws and so on, all the time rewarding him for the correct behavior. Teaching Advanced Bite Inhibition Following is a general guide to the bite inhibition skills your puppy learns and when, as well as where you should aim for their skills to be at certain ages. These lessons begin when the puppies start nursing day 1 and continue until the day you pick your puppy up from the breeder. You should withdraw all of your attention from your puppy for very hard bites. Do not over-correct your puppy so they become afraid of biting. The Poodle used in breeding has a large role in the size of the puppy. Usually, toy Poodles are used, and this is the size we have used when writing this article. However, rarely, standard Poodles are used, and this results in an enormous puppy. They are affectionate and usually gentle. Puppies can be playful and quite active. However, they tend to calm down as they age. Some may stay relatively active into adulthood, like their Poodle parent. They are well-suited to families with children who like to play as well as snuggle. These dogs are a bit loud and vocal. Clippings every few months are required, though their faces and paws may need trimming more often. We recommend scheduling them a monthly grooming appointment unless you are willing to learn how to groom them properly at home. Their nails should be trimmed every month at the very least. They need their teeth brushed quite a bit as well. Daily is best. These dogs are particularly prone to dental problems, so brushing is essential. They are not prone to many different health conditions. Minor Conditions. Their coat is somewhat hypoallergenic, although not completely hypoallergenic. This is because they trap more dander than other breeds. If you are an allergy sufferer, make sure you spend a lot of time with your Maltipoo before you bring them home to ensure you are not allergic to them.
