I have had White German Shepherds since .The white german shepherd has faced extermination since nearly their beginning in .However, it was, ironically, the evil German regime of the s that shaped a worldwide dislike for the White German Shepherds because they viewed them as a threat to what they considered the proper German Shepherd bloodline. With that being said, organizations began amending their misguided policies in the 's towards the WGSdog. You can research more into this, but point is they have faced genocide and they deserve to be here. They will give you their whole heart. Please be sure you can do the same. There are long hair and short hair WGSdogs. I have short hair WGSdogs. Some in my pack have longer hair than their neighbor, but mine are not their Swiss cousins that are the true long-hair. My pack ranges from sizes of approx 70 lbs, to lbs. WIth such a large spectrum within a small pack, saying an average just doesn't work. But if you want a girl you are probably looking at having a 70 to 95 lbs lady; and if you want a boy well anywhere from 70 to lbs. Many of my puppies have gone to live successfully in city apartments, yachts, ranches, suburbs, and everything in between. They are so intelligent and adapt to what you can provide, they just want your heart. Educate them. Play with them. Reward them. Enjoy their love for their family pack. Time for Delivery! Thursday, 12 May It is my profound pleasure to add my very positive review for Jarry and Annette Mandrell. I am very particular who gets my dogs, and after getting to know the Mandrells, and listen to their long term plans, I was more than happy to let them have puppies. They wanted breeding rights, and again, very few get breeding rights from me, but they are over the top on the details and genetics and maintaining the integrity of my Straight back Giant German Shepherd lines that I have preserved for over 60 years. Ask them aboiut all of the DNA testing they have done on these dogs to rule out any genetic markers for all deseases. They want to make sure that your puppy is perfectly healthy and will stay that way. I have semi-retired, but I know that my dogs heritage is in sound hands with breeders, such as the Mandrells, who have far beyond my expectations and requirements as breeders. I can assure you ,that you can look worldwide, and will not find another breeder that has gone to such lengths to make sure these dogs are perfectly sound, genetically and physically before breeding. Their ethics and love for these animals is beyond comparison. You will never regret getting a puppy from them. Mandrell's go to great lengths to provide you sound, healthy puppies! It is my profound pleasure to add my very positive review for Jarry and Annette Mandrell.

Connect with us in Monterey for a World-class Standard Poodle! Photos and video also doesn't do the colour justice as the colour varies in intensity depending on the lighting. The one thing that was not mistakable was that this was a colour I had never before seen. The best part was that their temperaments were calm, very loving with eyes that would melt any cold heart. I also met the parents and the grandparents and saw photos going back 5 generations. I was hooked on the colour and knew my research had proved correct. I found my breeders. We often get asked "what does a red look like in person" Our reply is "same as a dark red headed human" Their hair is also as fine. A typical red will love lying in our laps and winding around our legs like cats for affection or attention. They are a very "soft" natured dog and respond well to "positive" training. If you are harsh with them or they sense they are disappointing you they will mentally just shut down and pout. They also want to be everywhere with you including the bathroom. You will always hear the pitter patter of a red standards feet as they will be your shadow. They love working for praise and or a laugh. Once they know a trick, they will produce it with amazing precision with eager eyes waiting, begging for your praise and you better be lavish with it if you want to see them happy. Rose pups I would describe our reds as being the most empathetic of all the colours. It is as if they can read you and decide if you are happy in which case they may be silly to get a laugh or they know that you are sad and will be calm and quiet and just rest their head on your lap waiting for you to invite them up on the couch to watch a movie with you. I do find that the reds are more "dedicated" to their owners. Valor and Ember Do not leave your red standard poodle at the window while you go to get a Tim Horton's coffee or you will be met with the back of your red standard poodle and hear sighs of "woe" until you are forgiven. Thankfully reds like all poodles, forgive quickly. I will warn anyone that is thinking about getting a red Standard and plans on walking them, that you will not get past a block without someone stopping you to see your puppy. Everyone will want to know what breed it is and you will hear people exclaim "I didn't know poodles came that colour or that size". We have almost caused accidents by people slamming on their brakes to stop to look at us. One thing is for sure is that if you go walking with your red you will make many friends Paris waiting for her owner to finish in the bathroom, after she tried unsuccessfully to get in This color Red is NOT for everyone. If you are not used to having a dog constantly at your feet or on your lap, constantly touching you, or wanting to be in the same room as you then you might find a red to be too "needy". If you have plans on doing Pet Therapy with a Red they are perfect for this as they are so gentle and caring, but please -limit- the time you offer your Red to the service, as they can become easily drained from them absorbing others emotional and sometimes physical pain. They do love obedience and showing, of course as how better for them to show everyone how smart and pretty they are! During that time, I broke both my feet and also required both of my hips to be replaced.
All breeds of Labrador Retrievers are known for being kind and gentle — and this trait runs especially strong with the chocolate-colored sweeties. While these dogs are very friendly to strangers, they have even more affection to give to their beloved families. Your Chocolate Lab puppy or adult will be happiest spending time with their favorite people. If you have young children, a lab is a great fit, as this breed is usually quite tolerant of the horseplay of small children who are still learning how to interact with pets. Just like many people, Chocolate Labs enjoy both downtime — especially if it involves being pampered by their family — and active high-energy fun. We recommend daily exercise, which can include anything from fetch, to tag, or even frisbee games. The average Chocolate Lab lifespan is between 9 and 11 years. The most common Chocolate Lab health problem is hip dysplasia, which occurs more commonly in older and overweight dogs. This is just one of the reasons to make exercise a common part of your time with a Chocolate Lab puppy or fully grown adult. Another problem that occurs in overweight labs is joint and movement issues. The other most common Chocolate Lab health problems are: Progressive Retinal Atrophy Cataracts Elbow Dysplasia As is the case with any dog, when you bring home a Chocolate Labrador, make sure that you have a good vet to handle routing vaccinations and check-ups as well as emergency health problems. Learn more about the Keystone Puppies Health Guarantee! Chocolate Lab Coat Care In general, Chocolate Lab coat care is easy compared to many other dog breeds which require weekly or daily work. Labrador Retrievers all have double coats, which includes an under layer of short hairs and a slightly longer top layer. This coat is useful for repelling water and keeping them cool in warmer temperatures — and warm in cooler ones. Their coat is also noted to be slightly dry and oily. Chocolate Lab coat care is fairly minimal and considered low maintenance. The coat should be brushed with a firm bristle brush 2 — 3 times per month to minimize shedding. In addition to that, baths are needed fairly infrequently. What is more crucial is ensuring that their toenails are well cared for throughout the year. Meet Chocolate Lab Puppies for Sale. It quickly became clear that this new dog, at the time called the St. Then, in the 19th century, visiting Englishmen took note of these incredible dogs, brought them home to England, and soon perfected and standardized the breed—which had now been dubbed the Labrador Retriever. When they began as the St. While this is still true today, the recessive colors of yellow and chocolate have become more and more coveted by those seeking Labs as pets. Thanks to years of breeding efforts, those recessive colors are not as difficult to find as they once were. Chocolate Labrador Retriever Puppies for Sale Chocolate Labs are a favorite among those looking to add a member of the breed to their family. Coat shades can range from a warm, light brown to a deeper chocolate color. Both parents must carry and pass on the recessive chocolate color gene in order for a puppy to be born with this coat. Just like their black and yellow counterparts, chocolate Labrador Retrievers are known as doting and capable dogs. You can put them to work as hunting or service dogs, but they make excellent cuddle buddies as well. Their beautiful coats and breed stature make them great show dogs too. The Chocolate Labrador Retriever is not a distinct dog breed from other Labs, but it is a separate coat color variation that is specifically bred for. Similar to the other standard coat colors of Labrador Retrievers, Chocolate Labs are energetic dogs that get along well in a family setting. As a Retriever, they also make great hunting dogs and have also been known to fill other working dog roles including service dogs, guide dogs, search-and-rescue dogs, and more. They are even one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units. A point of interest is that all modern Chocolate Labrador Retrievers can be traced to three specific Black Labradors that lived during the s. Chocolate Labs are industrious little pups. They were bred for retrieval and will often sniff about for something to get into. They are also one of the most affectionate dog breeds and absolutely love being with their favorite humans. Properly socialized and well-trained, Labs are one of the kid-friendly dog breeds. They get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. They are famously even-tempered and playful. This makes them fantastic dogs for a growing family, as they tend to be gentle and patient with little ones. They can have a high prey drive. They usually do well with small pets within the family that they have been raised with or socialized around, but likely will still have the urge to chase other animals while out and about. They also tend to be open and friendly with strangers. After all, strangers are just more people to give them attention and play with them. Chocolate Labrador Retrievers may be high-energy dogs, but they are also highly adaptable. They will thrive in homes with fenced yards where they can run freely. They can adapt well to apartment living as well as long as they get plenty of daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation. Their natural urge to dig and bark when they are bored or agitated can be quelled with a little training and exercise. Although they can handle some alone time, Labs love to be with their families and thrive on attention from them, so they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Chocolate Labs also have a water-resistant double coat that makes them well-suited for most habitable climates. As with most dogs, they are sensitive to heat. Although they can handle some cold and will likely love to play in the snow, they are not a snow dog breed and may need to bundle up while out on walks in areas with harsher winters. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Chocolate Labrador Retriever can include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, hereditary myopathy, and heart disease. There is also a condition with a genetic link called exercise-induced collapse EIC , which can occur in young adult Labradors. Carriers of this can be identified by DNA tests and it is advised that breeders test for this and avoid practices that would produce the disease. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents and about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a large, deep-chested dog breed, Labrador Retrievers are at a higher risk for bloat. Bloat in dogs can be dangerous and can quickly become fatal if the stomach flips gastric torsion. Chocolate Labrador Retrievers are incredible companions and are also one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. Their energy can make them a handful at times, but their intelligence, adaptability, patience with people, and eagerness to please make them easy to train. Labs are one of the smartest dog breeds , so they pick up on things easily. As long as training is consistent and focused on positive reward and praise, a Chocolate Lab will do their best to respond as expected and will often exceed expectations. Chocolate Labs have a short, water-resistant coat that will shed year-round. Brushing a few times a week, daily brushing during seasonal shedding, and the occasional bath are all that are needed to keep a Lab coat healthy and looking great. They may need baths more often if they are avid swimmers, go on a lot of outdoor adventures, and get dirty a lot. Floppy ears tend to trap dirt, moisture, and debris. Proper dental care for dogs is imperative to help prevent painful dental diseases like gum disease or tooth decay later in life. You can also supplement your dental care efforts with vet-approved dental hygiene chews. Labrador Retrievers are one of the most active dog breeds and need a lot of daily activity to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough, but your Chocolate Labrador will likely be up for more activity if you are. One of the facts about Labrador Retrievers is that they have an extended puppyhood and tend to maintain that puppy-like energy and maturity until they are years old. Swimming can be a great lower-impact activity and Labrador Retrievers are one of the dog breeds that tend to love water. Between that, their water-resistant coat, and webbed toes, you may have trouble getting your Chocolate Lab out of the water. Fully-grown Chocolate Labrador Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Chocolate Labs generally live for years on average. Fourteen years later, the American Kennel Club did the same in .Featured Chocolate Labrador Retriever Article. Puppy pads Create a Schedule German Shepherd pups would do well with a schedule. Dogs live with a routine, and they are easy to train by having one. For this reason, make a schedule of the things you need to do regularly. Eventually, your pup will learn the routine events and will make itself adept at them. It will help you prepare for your pet, especially in the first few days of living together. As you allow your pet to adjust, do your best to create a stress-free environment for it. One easy way to keep a dog out of the litter box is to put the box in a room or closet and use a baby gate to block access. If your cat can jump fairly easily, he'll be able to make it over the gate. If your cat cannot jump, set the gate up in the doorway a few inches off the floor so that your cat can crawl under. If your dog is roughly the same size as your cat and could get under the gate, try setting up the gate at floor level and leave a box, stool, or chair next to the gate so your cat can hop over. Another easy solution is to set up your cat's litter box someplace your dog cannot access. This will ensure that your dog cannot physically get to the cat's stool, but it's not a guaranteed solution. You'll need to make sure that your dog is not a strong jumper or tall enough to simply stand on his hind legs and access the box. If your cat is old or incapacitated, this plan may not work. Try putting a chair, stool, or cat tree next to the table or counter where you've elevated the litter box. That way your cat can climb up to the box with greater ease. If you can't keep your dog away from the litter box, try installing a cat door into an existing door. You can set the cat's litter box up in a spare bedroom, bathroom, or closet, and after installing the cat door you'll be able to leave the regular door shut. A door chain is similar to the cat door, except it doesn't require cutting into your door. Simply drill and install a door chain that's long enough to let your cat fit through an ajar door, yet short enough that your dog won't be able to fit his body through the crack. If the door won't stay ajar without closing, you may need to prop the door open while the chain is in use so your cat can still get in and out without being trapped. Shop All Cat Food As lovable as dogs are, let's face it: They sometimes do things that are kind of gross. One of those gross behaviors is raiding your cat's litter box and eating what they find there. Learn why your pup is prone to this behavior and how to keep dogs out of the litter box for good. Dogs are natural scavengers who tend to devour anything with a strong smell, even poop. To the highly attuned nose of a dog, cat poop smells like cat food, which, as far as your dog is concerned, is a special treat. Once your pooch discovers these tasty nuggets in the litter box, it's like they've hit the jackpot. But despite this behavior being enjoyable for your dog, it should be discouraged, and not simply because it's gross. Cat feces can carry harmful bacteria, including salmonella, which could make your dog sick. It also can carry a parasite that causes a condition called toxoplasmosis that can be harmful to humans if your dog licks your face, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Cat litter can also harm your dog if consumed in large enough quantities to cause an intestinal blockage. The best method depends on the size, temperament and trainability of your dog. Your cat might also have a say in whether certain methods will work. While it might not be realistic to clean up after your kitty every time they go, cleaning the box once or twice a day will help to cut down on your dog's opportunities. A self-cleaning robot litter box can make this task easier, if your cat will tolerate it. You could also switch to an odor-neutralizing litter to discourage your pup. Train Your Dog The most permanent way to keep your pup away from the cat box is to train them to leave it alone. Before you begin, make sure your dog is getting high-quality dog food so that they're not missing any nutrients in their diet. They should also be getting plenty of exercise and mental stimulation so that they aren't exploring the litter box out of boredom. Once those bases are covered, try following these steps from the AKC to teach your dog the "leave it" command: Hold a treat on the floor under one hand and allow your dog to sniff it. When your dog loses interest and gives up, say "leave it" as they're turning away. With your free hand, give them a better treat than the covered one. Gradually work up to telling them to "leave it" while they're still inspecting the treat. Reward them with a better treat when they turn away. Once they learn to associate the command with getting a better treat than the one they're investigating, practice letting them sniff the litter box and telling them to "leave it. If you have a small dog, this might be as simple as elevating the litter box out of reach, or placing it inside a bathtub. For larger dogs, a covered cat box might work if your cat will tolerate a lid. If your cat vetoes a lidded box, installing a pet gate or a cat flap to the room where the litter box is stored might be your best option. Whichever method you try, be sure to keep your kitty's preferences in mind. If you need to relocate the litter box, move it gradually, in small increments, to give your cat time to get used to the idea. Similarly, changing litter should be done gradually, mixing a little bit of the new litter with the old and increasing new litter slowly as your cat becomes used to it. She currently lives in the Ozarks with her husband and their gaggle of four-footed dependents, where she enjoys watching a wide array of wild animals in her back yard while drinking her morning coffee. This can be dangerous for the dog and the cat. Plus, it can make your house a huge mess. Often, the easiest thing to do is dog-proof your litter box. Use a Baby Gate Cats often have no trouble getting around baby gates unless they are tiny. You can also install the baby gate so that it is just a few inches off the ground, which should allow the cat to squeeze underneath the bottom. This is probably the most comfortable option, but it does mean leaving a baby gate up all the time. Of course, this only works if your cat is an expert climber. You can always put a cat tree near the litter box if your feline needs a bit of extra help climbing. Image Credit: Sharaf Maksumov, Shutterstock 3. Self-cleaning litter boxes can be expensive, but they are a great option if you want something that works. Litter boxes with covers will deter larger dogs, especially since they will not fit into the litter box. Some cat litter boxes are entered through the top. You put something taller, like a cat tree, next to it so that your cat can leap in. The dog will be unable to get in, no matter its size. These boxes work best for smaller dogs, as bigger ones may be able to reach their head in. Install a Cat Door You can also install a cat door to keep your dog out. These are usually made to go on an outside door. But you can put most of them on an inside door as well. Install one going into the room where you keep the litterbox and plan on keeping that door shut. However, your cat will have no problem going through it. Image Credit: AndreasGoellner, Pixabay 6. Instead, you use a drill to install a door chain. Teaching this command is pretty simple. Hold a treat in a closed fist next to your face. Your dog should see you pick up the food and know it is in your hand. Move your hand further away from your space so that your dog has to move its eyes more to look at your face. Next, hold the treat between two fingers so that your dog can see it. Repeat the above steps, but with the open hand. Once your dog has that mastered, kneel on the ground in front of your dog and put a piece of food on the ground in front of you. Tell your dog to leave it. If your dog goes for the food, cover it with your hands. When your dog looks at your face, reward them with a different treat. After your canine has mastered that part, stand up and drop a piece of food on the ground — close to you so that you can cover it with your foot if necessary. Image Credit: Jaromir Chalabala, Shutterstock 8. Ensure Your Dog is Mentally Stimulated Many destructive behaviors stem from your canines being bored. Different dogs will need different amounts of mental stimulation, which is usually tied to their intelligence level. Smarter dogs need to stretch their mind more than other canines. There are many ways you can keep your dog mentally stimulated. One easy way is to provide daily training sessions. Training is hard for dogs, as they try to figure out what you want them to do. It also makes your dog better behaved and can result in them learning useful commands. However, not everyone has time to train their dog daily. Some dogs may need a bit more mental stimulation than a training session as well. In these cases, consider using puzzle toys to entertain your dog during the day. Puzzle toys come in all sorts of difficulties and utilize food to keep your dog interested. However, a few puzzle toys can keep a dog busy for hours. In this case, it can be challenging to convince them not to eat it, even if they are entertained otherwise. Alternatively, you can also use substances like vegetable oil or canned pumpkin. Okay, it's our product, so we may be biased — but we love it so much, we just have to share it! Use a Muzzle If none of the other methods are working, you may need to muzzle your dog when the litterbox is available to them. There are many different types of muzzles — beyond those used for aggressive dogs. Some are specifically designed to prevent dogs from eating things they are supposed to. They also make muzzles that still allow a dog to drink, which is a reliable option if you need to leave it on your dog for an extended period. Sometimes, our dogs are so persistent in breaking into the litter box that some owners may throw up their hands. However, your dog must be kept away from cat stool. Cats can have internal parasites, like hookworms, that can then be transferred over to your pet. Furthermore, clumping litter is hazardous for canines. When eaten, it will clump up in their stomach and cause all sorts of issues. In some cases, it may cause a blockage that can be life-threatening. We recommend trying a few of the things we listed in this article, as they tend to work best when used together. Related Read:. You could alternatively lift the baby gate a few feet off the floor so that the cat can climb underneath. If you have a small pet, you may place an object near the door so that your cat can jump over it and go outside. Dogs may not jump as adeptly as cats do. Baby gates come in different sizes, forms, and qualities. We have reviewed some of the best baby gates you can get from Amazon below. Did your dog get into the cat litter box…again? We get it — dogs like to eat poop! Good news — there are several different methods you can use to dog proof your litter box. Larger dogs may be able to still stick their nose inside, but small and medium-sized dogs can be kept out. It also has a litter-clinging steps that collect litter as your cat enters and exits, keeping your floors clean. However, fast-moving dogs still may be able to get a bite in before the cleaning can take place. Keep Cat in Gated Area. Some indoor dog gates are specifically designed to let cats slink through while keeping dogs out. Some desperate owners resort to feeding their cats certain types of food that are designed to make their waste less desirable to dogs. Covered Litter Box. Some litter boxes can be set up with a covered opening that only cats can access. Keep Your Dog Occupied. Your dog could be eating poop out of boredom — in which case distraction may be one possible solution to your poo problems. Try setting your dog up with a treat dispensing dog toy that can challenge your pooch and keep him occupied. Dog Proof Door Latch. You can also purchase a dog proof door latch that keeps the door open with enough space that is large enough for a cat to slip through, but too narrow for a dog. Pet Keen is reader-supported. If you have a household with both dogs and cats, you know how awesome that combo can be especially when your dog and cat are doing something adorable like snuggling. Dogs getting into the litter box and eating cat poop is easily one of the top problems owners of both dogs and cats deal with. It can be a huge task trying to keep your pup out of the litter box! Believe it or not, there is a reason your dog is engaging in this behavior, and there are several ways you can keep them from doing it again. Dogs are scavengers; they will eat pretty much anything they come across. And they find cat poop to be particularly delicious treats because it smells like cat food to them. The reason it does? In a much rarer case, your pup may be chowing down on poop due to a health problem. The result is them gobbling down anything that resembles food in the slightest. Cat poop can contain a host of different bacteria and parasites that can make your pup ill. Bacteria can include salmonella , campylobacter , and clostridia , amongst others. To make matters worse, salmonella can be transmitted from dog to human. Cat poop can also pass along worms , as well as a parasite responsible for toxoplasmosis which your dog can then transfer to you via a nice sloppy doggy kiss. As far as litter goes, it can also be dangerous to your dog in large quantities. If your dog eats enough litter, it can result in a blockage in the intestines. The good news is that most dogs would need to eat a ton of litter for this to occur. If it seems like your pup is having trouble going or if their poop looks different than usual, get them to a vet. This method is one that requires your time. The quicker you get in there, the less often your dog will be able to get a treat. Click here to learn more and get yourself a bottle. Cover the Litter Box This one is an easy fix to the problem, but it depends on both your cat and dog to be successful. Depending on your cat, this may not be a good option. These litter boxes are fabulous because they will clean themselves after each use. The downsides are they might make your cat nervous, they can be pricey, and if your dog is super-fast, it might be able to get in there before the self-cleaning begins. Image Credit: Litter Robot, Unsplash 4. However, if you have limited space in higher areas and will need to use the space for other things, the idea of a litter box being there might squick you out. Putting up a pet gate will block access to the litter box for your pup, and voila, problem solved! But how will the cat get to it? You can get a pet gate that has a small pet door in it to let your cat in and out. With one of these, you can leave the door to the litter box area cracked open enough for your cat to slip through while ensuring the crack is too narrow for your dog. This is another instance where your pets being close in size will make this a poor solution. Doing this will require the most time and effort on your part. There are too many health issues that could arise from doing this some of which could be passed along to you. The simplest way to get your dog out of the litter box will be cutting off access to it, getting a different type of litter box, or cleaning the box constantly. Once this is done, you can be sure your dog will be much healthier if maybe a bit poutier! Brenda chooses our canine brother for our family with great care and careful consideration. Consequently Tuckers has fit in with our urban lifestyle and busy family beautifully, bringing us great joy. We have several grandchildren and wanted to be sure we had a puppy that would fit into our lifestyle. After weighing all the options, we knew we wanted an Australian Labradoodle. As I began to look at different breeders, many were out of state. We live in Florida and I really wanted to be able to pick up the puppy from the breeder myself. She is now 8 months old and is so smart, loving, and sweet. She has a gorgeous fleece coat. When we teach her something new, she learns very quickly. As a matter of fact, she was the easiest dog we have ever had to potty train. When we took Bailey to our vet, he said we had a very healthy, happy, and well-bred pup. The ALCA has high standards and we wanted to make sure we were not getting a puppy mill dog. Bailey is very loving and contented. The relationship does not end once you take your puppy home. Even now, after all these months, if I have any issues or questions, I can rely on Brenda to answer them and give me great advice. At some point, we hope to add another puppy to our family and it will definitely be from Lakewood Labradoodles. We were anxious to add a furry member to our family and timing was important to us. Brenda was so helpful as we did our research on ALDs and helped us once we committed to a litter. We loved following our puppy from birth until we brought her home. Brenda offered helpful information to help us prepare, gave us opportunity to come meet her and her litter mates. It was a great experience. We brought home a beloved member of our family. Highly recommend! When we lost our beloved goldendoodle in April , we were hesitant to get another dog but had this void in our house. We wanted our two young sons to grow up with a dog and we were just dog people. My husband began a search for labradoodles, discovered Lakewood, and a minute thorough conversation later, we were pretty much sold. Brenda was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and attentive to detail. She cares about all of her dogs and the families she matches them up with. We are grateful for Brenda and their gift to us, our sweet Mia. Mia has a phenomenal sweet disposition and loving, gentle nature. Everyone loves her that first meets her and inquires about where we got her! Everyone should be so fortunate to have a Lakewood Australian labradoodle in their home!

As even-tempered, sweet, and playful dogs, Pugs make wonderful playmates for kids of all ages and lovely companion pets for couples, singles, and seniors. These little joy bringers love to cuddle and are generous with their Pug love. When it comes to their family, Pugs attach like magnets. They are known to happily shadow their humans in every activity and are just as happy lazing on the couch all day as they are going for a long evening stroll around the neighborhood. If you are looking for the best quality Pug puppy breeder in Hawaii HI state , then you are in the perfect spot! They are now one of the most favorite pets for many urban people looking for small but loyal dogs. Nowadays, many sellers will pretend to breed healthy, purebred puppies only to deliver puppies that are sick or mixed breeds in different states let alone Hawaii. Some people simply vanish after being paid. They are a kennel-based puggy breeder who is very conscious about their pups. They raise the puppies with a lot of love and care. They do not hesitate to provide the best facilities to their little babies. At Shaolin Pugs, the dogs stay in the house or at work with the breeders most of the time. They separate their dogs in different runs based on different criteria. The owner particularly uses this apartment to keep their Puggies healthy, safe, and germ-free. Shaolin Pugs starts to train their puppy litter at the age of days old. They raise their pups to be socialized and obedient so that they can easily adjust to their new house. They are also concerned about the new owner. They make sure that the pup parents do not have to bear a lot to manage the little pooch. Their pugs get their parental clicker training at the age of 30 days. Shaolin Pugs do not compromise with anything while producing quality pups. To know more about them and have a look at the available pugs, do not forget to check out their website. Pugs are the most noticeable breeds in the Dogdom, with their chopped-up, saggy faces, bug-like dangling eyes, squat, skinny legs, and wavy, pig-like tails. Pugs are available in four basic colors: fawn, silver-fawn, apricot-fawn, and black. The most common in Hawaii is a fawn pug. Actually, approximately two-thirds of all pugs are fawn in color. They range in color from light cream to dark cream, with varying shades of gold. They may have red, orange, or silver undertones as well. Not only do these colors differ, but they can also be shaded differently, with some areas of the body being a different color than others. Where can I take my Pug in Hawaii? Though Puggies are not an athlete type of dog breed, they need an optimum amount of exercise to stay fit and healthy. You can take your pup for a walk with you in the morning or evening. You can also take your furry friend for a little jogging if you want. But make sure your pup can keep pace with you. Walking for three miles a day is sufficient for the pug puppies. But if your pooch is a few weeks old or never has walked before, do not take it for such a long walk. You can also take your pup to a dog park. Pugs are more likely to get adjusted with other dogs and children. Why to avoid puppy mills and backyard breeders while choosing a Pug Puppy in Hawaii? Purchasing a Pug puppy from a puppy mill or backyard breeder is not the wisest decision in my opinion. In general, I do not recommend that people purchase any breed of dog from a pet store. Because puppy mills or backyard puppies choose their business profit over the well-being of the pups. Pugs are very adorable, loyal, and easy to control in general. But in puppy mills or backyard breeders, do not ensure that the Puggies are purebred. Besides, they do not provide sufficient veterinary care and treatment that a pup deserves. So, once you get a Pug from them, you may have to suffer because of their carelessness. Is it a good idea to get a Pug Puppy from a rescue center in Hawaii? Why Not? Purchasing a Pug puppy from a Hawaii rescue center is not always the best option in my opinion. A significant number of rescue dogs have a troubled past and are not fully trained and vetted at such a young age. As a result, they are not as social and friendly as they would be if they stayed at home. Though Puggies are considered as one of the best breeds of pets, they still need all types of veterinary care and socializing training to adapt to any environment. But at a rescue center, the pooches do not get these necessary treatments. It becomes difficult for the owner to deal with the dog later. As a result, there is no guarantee that a Puggy pooch will be perfectly healthy. Having such a dog as a constant companion can be dangerous and harmful at times. For all of these reasons, getting your little furry friend from a genuine Pug breeder is the best option. Are Pugs good for first time owners? Pugs are one of the most popular breeds of dogs. People who truly love pugs have a separate and special fan base. Pugs are generally loyal, adorable, playful, and funny to be with. And that makes them a really good breed for the first-time owners. Though pugs need their regular walk or exercises, they are not athletic dogs. Now whether these toy dogs will be the best option for you depends based on what you want in a pet. Pugs are wonderful dogs, but they are not for everyone. The Pug temperament is one of stubbornness, and it will require a patient and understanding owner. They are, however, extremely loyal and are raised to satisfy their owners. They make excellent pets for families and anyone with the patience to train a playful breed. What do I need to know about Pug puppies? Pugs are insatiably curious creatures who are constantly on the lookout for new things to do. They are known to be attention seekers. They become unhappy if they make a mistake. Pugs are easy to train. They are also particularly fond of food. Pugs are prone to putting on weight due to their physique and proclivity to overeat. Pug puppies are also good with other dogs and children. They can adapt to people easily and are very playful. The average lifespan of a pug puppy is years. How to raise a Pug puppy? They make excellent family pets and can be trained in a variety of skills ranging from adherence to adaptability. To raise a Pug puppy, you must strictly adhere to its diet, early social interaction, and training classes. You should also ensure that they are vaccinated at the proper age, their tails are docked, they are dewormed, and their dew claws are removed. Pugs are low-maintenance dogs. Pugs, contrary to popular belief, shed, and their coarse short hair requires regular grooming. Pugs respond well in training sessions if positive reinforcement is applied. How long are Pugs in the puppy stage? The period of the puppy stage varies from breed to breed. In the case of Pugs, the puppy stage stays up to twelve to eighteen months. A Pug is considered an adult at the age of one year, though he or she may still exhibit puppy-like characteristics. Between the ages of twelve and eighteen months, puppies usually develop the mental maturity and personality of an adult dog. Some of the Puggies may show puppy attitude up to two years. Why are purebred Pug puppies expensive in Hawaii? Pug puppies cost more than other toy pups found in backyards, mills, or pet stores. Because breeders are strongly concerned about the welfare and safety of their puppies. They simply do not see it as a viable source of income. Rather, they do it with passion and enthusiasm. Even if the price is a little high, original dog breeders will always choose the best facilities for their mutts, such as food, kennels, healthcare, veterinary checks, and so on. As a result, a purebred Pug puppy is a little pricey anywhere let alone HI State. How do I find a good Pug breeder in Hawaii? To be honest, finding a genuine Pug breeder in Hawaii is not a piece of cake. You have to research a lot and to find out the best breeder of the State. Many pet stores or mills sell these toy dogs, but their primary goal is to make a profit off of these little pups. Your friends, family, or any well-known person can also be of great help if they are aware of any reputable Pug breeders. You can also use social media in your authentic Pug breeder hunting mission. Do not miss any dog show around you. There are always some breeders present in a dog show. You may get your desired breeder there on whom you can actually rely on. If you want, you can go to their website and have a look. There is no doubt that they are one of the top toy dog breeders in Hawaii. Why are Pugs so popular in Hawaii? Pugs are very fond of children and are strong enough to play as long as it is not too rough. Pugs are extremely friendly, and their energy and desire to cuddle and sleep make them an excellent choice for a family dog. Puggies are also very smart, playful, clever, and quick learners. With proper training, care and love, they become the best companion of humans. Pugs love everyone they meet, but they do have a favorite person who they will stick to and follow around everywhere. The adorable wrinkles and big bug eyes of a pug do more than just make it look cute. How much does a purebred Pug puppy cost in Hawaii? The cost of a Pug puppy is determined by a number of factors. The majority of purebred Puggies come with being potty trained, registration papers, veterinarian examination, health certificate, health guarantee, and so on. The price may decrease or increase depending on the number of features provided by the breeders. If the toy dog you choose comes from the champion breeding line, the price may increase a little. Over To You I appreciate you accompanying me this far. I hope you find all of the information about Pug breeders in Hawaii state to be useful. Can you tell me why you adore the Pug breed so much? But what exactly do you find overly appealing in them? What color of Puggies do you prefer? Is there another genuine Pug breeder in Hawaii? If so, please provide us with their contact information. Michelle Brown. I bid you beware of giving your heart to a dog to tear. We are a small show kennel located in Hilo Hawaii. Foundation pugs making up our pack are all Champions and all imported. We are proud of all of them and their accomplishments. Each pug was selected for specific matching attributes long before arrival to our home and kennel. Our 1st pug Am CH. Shang is retired from the confirmation ring and currently does us very proud with preformances in obedience trials. Our little buddy practices with the group every saturday at St. Joseph's School in Hilo and shows about 4 times per year. Shang took 1st place at his last show. .Every pug has to have a job in our home. .Shang brings home the bacon, ribbons and prizes now in obedience. Perry, Queensland, AU for being indirectly responsible for Shang sharing our lives. We also thank this couple for sharing their homes and lives with us on our recent trip down under! Terry even had the previledge of showing one of Margaret's pugs in degree heat. .Thats Australia for ya! Kept the dogs cool with ice and put ice in our hats to stay cool in the ring. Thanks to Margaret and Graham! Shang appears to be my "protector" and likes nothing better than to go to work with me and watch out after me under my desk. Our 2nd pug Am CH. Shackie is true to the breed standard with Sire AU. We appreciate the many hours of on line education Richard and Anne Costen of Saxten Kennel have provided to us. This couple have been line breeding pugs for 25 years. Saxten Kennel has racked up and impressive number of champions and BIS winners over the years. We have found that the long standing line bred feature in the Saxten pugs brings a lot to the breeding table. Shackie received his title in as well as Group 1 placement at his last show. We look forward to bringing Shackie out for more shows in as he is a winner AND fun to show. Lord Shackelton 1st explored Antartica at the beginning of the 19th century. He and his crew became strained and landed in Tasmania making an incredible story short. As a pup Shackie was an "explorer" so Richard and Anne named him Shackelton. Shackie is my best buddy. Our pugs live in a pack and it appears that Shackie is the pack Alpha. It is very interesting for me to watch pack behaviors. Shackie watches out for all his "ladies". We all honor Shackie except Shang. Shang and Bella seem to be their own pack at times. Then Bella seems to work between both packs. Everybody loves Bella, doesn't matter what she does. Our 3rd pug Am CH. Bonnie has a fantastic background including mum Ch. Bonnie easily attained her American Championship title in a little over a year after arrival. Bonnie is the result of planned line breedings by the Saxten Kennel for which we are pleased. This pug has an incredible golden coat. You may see a couple good photo shots of this coat under her name on this website. By the way.Bonnie came from a litter that where all named after old world Roses. Bonica is a beautiful old world sweet smelling rose. Bonnie is my "soul Sista". Bonnie is also apparently a nurse. Bonnie can spot a troubled painful spot on humans and gives it great interest and often licks the spot. Bonnie can also find painful spots on the other pugs and licks them as well. Most recently in Hawaii Bella earned her American Championship in three shows with three 5 point majors. Bella is from Heroncrest Kennel in Ontario and is an exceptionally well put together bitch being very short backed. Heroncrest's Drama Queen. Bella is now working on her American Grand Championship. We are contemplating motherhood for .Bella's uncle is: Am CH. Grandsires are: Am CH. Bella was named after a casino in Las Vegas.True to her name she has been a very lucky girl. Bella is also a fantastic cuddle doggy which I enjoy perhaps most of all! Our 5th pug AM CH. Vito has only been shown one weekend at the Hilo show and did extremely well. At the one show Vito earned 8 points two 3 point majors as well as Group 4 this weekend. Vito is a golden pug like his mom, square body, straight back and lovely big round head like his dad. One of the features about Vito that I like best is that his noseroll is not black which makes his facial features stunning also like his mom. Sarah will be showing Vito next spring. We currently are getting his Rabies titers completed in order to show him next year on the mainland. Vito is a stunning pup who received many many compliments and lots of head turning at the recent show. Vito lives with Sarah and her husband Kevin and has recently learned to swim like a champ and romps in the woods like a bird dog. What a puggy! Jada's mom is Bonnie and Sire is Bosco. This little lady was my pick on the day she was born i think. Jada has an incredible head , is very short backed and has great "attitude". It will be interesting to see how she does in the show ring for .Jada is quite bossy and sassy with all who love her. We all love Jada of course. Jada just got two points at the Hilo Orchid Isle show which we are proud of. Our foundation dogs are 1st of all our beloved companions and secondly creating some incredible pups for the ring. We are proud of them all. Bella is bred and appears to be pregnant and happy. We are excited to announce that Bella is bred to CH. Tupelo Showboat Tu China Tu. This is a line breeding for Bella. Needless to say we are holding our breath with excitement. JUNE 8, .Bonnie appears to be pregnant and happy. We are excited about this breeding as she is bred to Ch. Saxten Shackelton which is a line breeding. I am totally stoked if Bonnie is pregnant. Fingers crossed. JUNE 11, Bella in season. Bella is fit as a fiddle and ready to go. To "whom" might she be bred too on might ask? JUNE 10, Shackie got another leg on his 1st obedience title this weekend. He is such a good boy. Also, fingers crossed, Shackie may be a daddy. Vito qualifies for Eukanuba .Lujah is sitting on 12 points and is headed for HKC show next weekend. We have our fingers crossed for this beautiful pup. Lani win a 4 point major and will go to HKC sitting on 1 major and 7 points. Shackie also got his 1st Obedience Leg. We are acceptionally proud of Shackie as he has been working very well with Terry on his Obedience training for weeks prior to this competition. Shackie is the only pug we have that competes both in conformation and obedience. Hilo Orchid Isle show. Bella Received her Grand Championship on .Shown by Brittany George. We are so proud. Photo's soon. We had a lot of fun!! Lani one of Bella' pup's from this year's breeding won 3 point. Miss Bella is 1 point from her Gr. We have our fingers crossed that she will finish this year at Windward or Hilo show. .Jada, Sara, Shen, Vito and Ruby. We owe great thanks to Kevin Woodworth for his excellent handling of this fine pup. We showed 3 pug pups today. They actually all showed very well and we are proud of each of them. Stay tuned as next weekend we have our second fun match of the season. Our sweet Shaolin's Jade Dragon aka Jada placed 2nd in breed. Was a great match for us. Many thanks to both of these folks. Shaolin's Jade Dragon aka Jada placed 3rd in breed.
A Comfy Bed Your French bulldog puppy should learn to sleep in its own, comfy bed. Unless you love having it in your bed, that is not my preference now. Growing up though, I loved having my family dog in bed at night as a child. He protected me from the closet monster and I gave a wonderful place to lay his head down. I digress, the best is to train your new puppy to stay in its own bed. Grooming Supplies French bulldogs are a low-shedding breed, but still, need regular grooming. We still have to vacuum a lot, especially during shedding seasons. French bulldog puppies have sensitive skin, so buy only a hypoallergenic shampoo for them and bath occasionally. Lots of Chew Toys Puppies love to explore everything through their mouths and will chew everything. Provide them with lots of chew toys that indulge their teething instincts. Harness, Collar, and Leash Find an appropriate harness, collar, and leash. I use a harness such as this on Amazon. It offers bodily support and protects from excessive tension around the neck. Self-Cooling Pads French bulldogs are also prone to over-heating. Remember, French bulldogs are indoor pets, they are not built for extreme hot or cold weather. A Warm Jacket With that in mind, if you live in a cooler climate or somewhere that experiences the 4 seasons, it is best to be prepared. Get your Frenchie a warm jacket. This is a simple, warm, and fashionable jacket that is sure to please. Frenchies are unable to regulate their body temperatures not only in hot weather but in cold ones also. The French bulldogs remain hyperactive when they are young especially up to the age of 4 and 5 years. So, till then, you have to get used to their excited bursts of energy. French bulldog puppies are extremely hyperactive and can sometimes remain the same into adulthood too. They need plenty of mental and physical stimulation to quell this behavior. I play hard with my bulldog at least once a day. Daisy loves to get her chew toy and play keep away. French bulldogs sleep a lot but when they are awake they need a lot of attention from their owners. As puppies, French bulldogs can be quite hyperactive and destructive. But there is hope. Bulldogs in general should have a minimum of two physical activities, usually morning and evening a day. This can consist of two walks of mins each or a walk and active play time. Redirect this energy into something positive. Causes of Hyperactivity in a French Bulldog Puppy French bulldog puppies have a medium level of energy but they love playing and running around. Lack of exercise and play can make them hyper. Your French bulldog puppy needs attention. They love the company of their owners and crave their time. A French bulldog puppy may be hyper as a result of their mixed genes, training, and also how well they are socialized. French bulldog puppies need a loving home to grow up. They are not happy if neglected. So, if you are leaving your puppy alone for long periods then you may notice destructive habits in them, which are not that easy to break. Keeping your French bulldog puppy active is a great way to expend their energy that can help them calm down. Give ample exercise to your French bulldog puppy. If their energy is not worked off, it will come out in many ways like: chewing the furniture, your shoes, damaging things in the house, etc. Taking your pup out for a walk at the park, or playing fetch with them can help with hyperactivity. If it is for attention, then make sure to set some time aside to give direct attention to your French bulldog puppy. During that time forget about everything else and interact with your puppy or play with them. This will result in a stronger bond between you and your French bulldog pup and eventually result in better behavior. If your dog starts jumping and barking at your guests or whenever they act hyper, avoid giving them any attention. Any engagement from your side will be perceived as a reward for their unruly behavior. As soon as your pup calms down, reward this good behavior with a pat on the head or a word of praise. This way your puppy will learn quickly how you want them to behave. You may also consider taking them in for professional training. A dog trainer is skilled to assess any behavioral issues your pup may have and also offer a long-term solution. Many training methods can be used to communicate the calm and relaxed behaviors you expect your puppies to display. Another solution could be getting another dog who can keep your French bulldog puppy busy while you are away from home. You can also use treats to calm down your puppy during training exercises. Each time your pup complies with your command reward him with healthy treats so that they understand your command. Gentle positive reinforcement teaches your puppy to behave appropriately. Keep the training sessions short as puppies have very short attention spans. But you have to remain patient and understand that it will take your pup a few sessions to learn these commands. Never punish your puppy, it will make them fearful of you and will damage your relationship. Take your French bulldog puppy to socialization classes that will allow them to get trained for leash walks, recall once they are off the lead, and remaining calm despite the presence of distractions like other puppies and even other people. You can give your puppy some mental stimulation through toys. Give them stuffed toys or have your puppy search for a hidden treat inside a toy like a hollow bone. Playing with these toys will help stimulate their mind and also drain their energy. Puppies at the time of teething may have some discomfort from sore teeth and gums and may need to gnaw at something. Never play rough games with your puppy and push them around with your hands. This will just encourage the puppy to use their teeth to grab you. Instead stroke their backs, gently rub their ears, or maybe gently scratch them. Your puppy will learn that hands are soft things and not dog chews or tug toys! Caring for a French Bulldog Puppy Clean the dark and moist folds on their heads regularly. These folds collect dirt, dust and food leftovers. You can do this using baby wipes or a wet towel. French bulldog puppies have shortened nostrils so you need to keep them in air-conditioned rooms and keep them hydrated all the time. They can easily get overheated which can be fatal for them. Their cute bat-like ears also collect dirt, dust, and pieces of grass. Therefore, keep their ears clean using special ear ointment. Their short and twisted tail is prone to collect dirt and feces that can cause serious infections. Get a harness that covers their whole body and hence provide them with better support. So if you fancy a swim with your French bulldog puppy you will need a good quality safety life jacket. French bulldog puppies adore food and can very easily become obese. Also, your French bulldog puppy may experience excruciating pain while walking. French bulldog puppies are comical and dependably friendly. They are high on energy and extremely affectionate. Like any other pet, they also have their fair share of issues. Maybe a little more. But French bulldog puppies are wonderful creatures who deserve your unconditional love. Exercise, direct attention, extra time, even another dog and certain training methods can certainly help your French bulldog puppy to mellow down. High energy levels are a sign of excellent health. All the puppies go through this phase when they will bother you and play around you to get your attention. Your French bulldog puppy will calm down as they mature, till then your puppy will be full of energy and inquisitiveness. So, enjoy this puppy phase till it lasts. As many French Bulldog owners will also tell you, Frenchies are some of the quickest eaters out there - which can result in issues like bloating, painful stomach cramps, burping and gas. With all of this in mind, purchasing the correct type of dog bowl is essential! As you research the best feeding bowls for Frenchies, consider shopping around for: Slanted dog bowls: As mentioned, these dogs have a flattened face and short neck structure, which can make it difficult for them to reach their food particularly as they get older. Slanted bowls are designed to help dogs access their food with ease. Slow feeding bowls: These bowls feature a raised obstruction in the middle of the bowl, preventing fast eaters from wolfing down their dinner too quickly. Elevated dog bowls: Providing your Frenchie with a raised bowl can benefit their digestion and prevent regurgitation and vomiting. There are lots of elevated dog bowls on the market, and a popular choice are bowls that get elevated when positioned on a four-legged wooden stand. Dog Collars for Frenchies French Bulldogs are a type of brachycephalic dog breed , which means that they are more prone to trachea damage and suffocation. Because of this, you should ensure that the dog collar you choose is suitable for their neck shape, and correctly fitted to prevent breathing problems from occurring. Flat buckle dog collars tend to be the most popular option for Frenchies. These dog collars feature a simple, comfortable design, with D Rings that allow for identification tags and lead attachments. French Bulldog harnesses are the safest way to ensure control on dog walks, while decreasing the risk of neck injuries from occurring. When it comes to choosing French Bulldog leads, remember that these dogs are smaller in build and closer to the ground, which means that short dog leads tend to be the best product for walkies. Always make sure that the lead you buy can be attached to the harness you use for walks. At Barc London, we offer harnesses for French Bulldogs with matching leads that are 1 - 1. Just like us humans, these dogs are affectionate creatures which enjoy cuddling in cosy spaces. The ideal shape of dog bed for French Bulldogs tends to be an enclosed style with higher walls. Older French Bulldogs in particular can suffer from problems with their joints and conditions like arthritis. Memory foam cushions can help to provide relief at night and promote healthy joints for better mobility. French Bulldogs enjoy the warmth and comfort blankets can provide. For these dogs, burrowing is a natural instinct, so a warm blanket is a French Bulldog accessory that will help them feel protected and comfortable in their nested environment. For the team at Barc, this was by far one of the most enjoyable aspects of crafting the Play collection, and it was important that each toy we created communicated the importance of playtime for dogs and their human owners. Remember that this breed of dog thrives on companionship. Playing with your French Bulldog is a great way to build a bond, and you can do so with games of fetch and rope toys for tug of war! Tried and tested by our founding Frenchie, our collection of designer dog toys offer the best products to enhance play. French Bulldog Clothes French Bulldogs have a unique body structure, with a small and compact build. Their muscular bodies and shorter legs can make it difficult to find suitable apparel - which is why you should always focus on comfort and fit when shopping for French Bulldog clothes. Dog coats: Frenchies are short-haired and more prone to feeling the cold compared to other breeds. This is true for most brachycephalic dogs, as their bodies tend to lose heat faster than able to be replaced. Knowing that these dogs struggle to regulate their body temperature, our Wear range offers dog coats that come in a padded gilet style. The lightweight material is breathable enough for these dogs to exercise comfortably, and warm enough to provide protection from the cold. French Bulldog Gifts Frenchies enjoy feeling the love, and showering them with dog gifts is a great way to display care and attention! Not only is it helpful in minimizing dangers it is also beneficial for potty training your Frenchie puppy by not allowing full range of your home. Bathrooms - can be a very dangerous place for a Frenchie puppy. In order to avoid your puppy from going into the bathroom unsupervised you would have to make sure to close your bathroom door every single time. A trick that would be helpful is hanging a sign on your door, wall or above the sink reminding you to close the door when you leave the bathroom. Fireplaces - does your home have a fireplace? Make sure you block it off from your Frenchie pup. Grooming supplies - dog shampoo should be carefully picked for a Frenchie pup as they often have sensitive skin. You should find a vet - preferably one that is knowledgeable in the French Bulldog breed and you are comfortable with that lives close by. French Bulldog puppies are known for chewing everything around the house, whatever they find they will chew or try to eat it. If puppy proofing your entire house seems like an insurmountable task, create a dog space. You dedicate an area of your house solely for your Frenchie, preferably one that you and or your family frequent. You can secure this area by using the puppy fence. This not only keeps your puppy in a safe and protected area, it also helps to not overwhelm them. You should go through your home and look for anything that could be hazardous to your new French bulldog puppy. Electrical cords, choking risks, shoes or anything of the sort should be cleared out. You also have to be conscious of any dangling cords that your Frenchie could chew, trip over or worse. As soon as you put all of these in place, you are all set and ready to bring the newest family member home. Bringing home your French Bulldog puppy The most efficient way to raise a well-adjusted, well-mannered French Bulldog is to expose them to everyday scenarios and experiences as soon as possible. The first experience your puppy will have is the car ride home. You should make sure the breeder will not feed your puppy right before the car ride home to avoid stomach upset or vomiting. As mentioned above having your Frenchie puppy secured in a car seat will be the safest option. This is because consistency goes a long way in training a well-behaved all rounded Frenchie dog. Now that you have gotten home, resist the urge to spoil and over indulge your Frenchie. You should start training your puppy early and refrain from excessive scolding, use positive reinforcements, and lots of praises. Potty training your Frenchie puppy takes patience the easiest way is to take your puppy outside every half hour or so and encourage them to go. Bringing them to the same area will help them quickly understand that this is their pee area. Always give them a treat as soon as they pee outside. Continue to do this, and then gradually drop the treats and use only praise. If you are training your French bulldog to go indoors on pee pads, just do the same as mentioned above. How long do French bulldog puppies sleep at night? Frenchie puppies can sleep anywhere from 12 to 18 hours per day, only waking up occasionally for an hour or so every few hours of rest. It is best to develop a nighttime routine. If you wake up your puppy to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, you will develop this habit with your puppy. In adulthood your Frenchie might wake you up in the middle of the night and you want to avoid developing this habit if possible. It is best to establish a night time house training routine. Take your Frenchie puppy to the bathroom right before bedtime and immediately upon waking up. Why won't my French bulldog's ears stand up? It is normal for French bulldog puppies to have one or two floppy ears at puppy-hood. In fact, it can take anywhere from ten weeks to five months for them to stand up completely and they usually do after they are done teething. Some French Bulldog puppies' ears stand up prior to their 8 week mark and before they go to their forever home. Taping them is always an option for French Bulldog owners however, not one we recommend or endorse unless it is really necessary and recommended by your Frenchie breeder or specialized in French Bulldog vet. Puppy proof the outside of your home and garage Antifreeze taste sweet to your dog however can be lethal. Remove any rat poison or traps around your home. Fence off areas where there could be toxic plants such as wild mushrooms or any water sources like pools. Frenchies are not good swimmers and most will sink. Make sure your backyard is safe and secure without any way for your Frenchie to get out of the fenced area. If needed fix loose fencing or holes prior to your French Bulldog's arrival. Always watch your Frenchie puppy when going outside since puppies get bored easily. Once they are bored they will get destructive and exhibit bad behaviors such as digging holes throughout your backyard or chew patio furniture etc. Always keep your trash secure, and away from your Frenchie. Frenchies are prone to obesity, watch their weight, give them lots of exercise. Regular check ups with the vet will help them stay healthy. Keep them under supervision at all times, and spend time with them especially in those first few weeks. english bulldog royal canin puppy - Crystal Lake woman takes in Hope, a pregnant golden retriever, becomes foster mom to 13 puppies Hope was adopted this week, and new homes are still needed for some pups January 29, at am CST Expand Kristen Vesely of Crystal Lake fostered 13 puppies, born Dec. The five-week-old pups gather around their feeding dish here, five weeks after they were born. Hope was one of 12 pregnant females due to give birth any day. An Ohio breeder had surrendered a total of 82 dogs, including 55 golden retrievers, Vesely said. Six weeks later, Vesely was on the phone with a reporter as 13 energetic 6-week-old golden retriever puppies swarmed around her legs, waiting for their wet kibble dinner. Their mother, Hope, was adopted by her forever family the day before. Hope gave birth to 14 puppies just three days later, with all but one surviving. Over the years, she has rescued and fostered dogs — many of which were pregnant dogs surrendered by breeders. When people want purebred dogs, they need to be able to meet the breeder, see where the dogs are housed and see health certifications, Vesely said. Kristen Vesely of Crystal Lake fostered 13 puppies, born Dec. The dog was rescued just days earlier from an Ohio puppy mill and is shown here with her 5-week-old puppies. But they can have health problems, including hip dysplasia. There are issues Vesely said she recognized based on what she has learned about certain dogs from puppy mills. The three dogs did not want to come out of their crates and were terrified of leashes, Vesely said. She and the woman who transported the dogs to Hammond had to tip the crates to get the dogs out. Once they did get the dogs into her car, Vesely realized she had a flat tire. Time was ticking, as a Lisle veterinarian was waiting to check out the dogs before they could be allowed into the state. Vesely was in tears. Then, a couple came up to her in the parking lot, followed by a dad with two teenage sons. Both groups asked if they could help. After fighting a stuck spare tire, the good Samaritans finally were able to get the spare free and Vesely back on the road. Provided by Kristen and Ken Vesely Faith, the other pregnant dog, went to a foster family in Algonquin. The veterinarian performed an X-ray, noting Hope was expected to have 10 or 11 puppies Three days after bringing Hope home, the dog went into labor. The first four puppies already were out when Vesely came home from work just before noon that day. It seemed over about p. Vesely stepped away to clean up. Thirteen survived. Hope only was able to feed seven or eight puppies by herself, so Vesely took on feeding the other puppies by hand at first. Other volunteers came in to take turns feeding and cleaning up. Vesely also reached out to the Northwest Herald, seeking old newsprint to work as pee pads. Still, the puppies were almost 6 weeks old before Vesely got more than a few hours of sleep a day. Kristen Vesely of Crystal Lake has fostered many pregnant dogs. The family built this feeding station to help nurse puppies when there are more than a mother can care for herself. Provided by Ken Vesely Vesely, with help from her own golden retrievers Topaz and Amber, taught Hope how to be a pet, she said. Hope had to be potty trained, taught how to walk on a leash and learn that she could trust people. Once Hope figured that out, she wanted all of the attention from her humans. The vet will confirm the pregnancy and check for any complications. Provide a nesting area at least a week before you think she is due to give birth. You want to give her the space she needs by putting her in her bed or in a box with towels or blankets for comfort. Choose an area that is secluded, such as in a separate room, so that she can have privacy and quiet. Make food and water available near your dog so she has easy access. This will also make it possible for her to not leave her puppies to eat and drink. This will prepare her body to produce substantial amounts of milk. Expect her to be uncomfortable during contractions, just like a woman would be. This is part of the process. In many cases, puppies are born in the middle of the night when you are sleeping. Make it a habit to check on your dog as soon as you wake up as she approaches her due date. The mother dog should clean her puppies right after they are born. Give her a minute or two to take the sac off the puppy and start licking and cleaning the puppy. If your dog is taking longer than that, you can step in and get the sack off and vigorously rub the puppy to dry and stimulate breathing. Puppies should start nursing within hours after birth. You may need to place the puppy in front of a nipple and gently squeeze a little milk out for the puppy to get the idea. It should be a solid surface without any holes into the sinuses. Consult your veterinarian if there are any concerns. You may need to tube feed or bottle feed the puppy with puppy formula if they are not able to nurse and are otherwise healthy. After the puppies are born, count them so you know exactly how many there are. This will help you keep tabs on the pups. The mother dog may want to eat the placentas, which is not harmful. She is getting back all the nutrients she put into her pregnancy. If she does not eat them, dispose of them in the trash. In some cases, eating the placentas may cause vomiting later. Remember that every puppy will have its own placenta. Puppies do not regulate their body temperature well and need to be kept warm. For the first few days after birth, keep one area of the whelping box around 85 degrees F. Then you can drop the temperature down to degrees F. Provide extra heat with the help of a heat lamp in one corner of the whelping box. If a puppy gets cold, it will not move much. Check to sure the birthing area is warm and the puppy is staying close to mom and the other puppies. Schedule a visit with your vet for checkups after the puppies are born. The vet will make sure that the mother is healing properly and that the puppies are growing. If you own the father dog, ensure that he is in an area separated from the female dog and the puppies. Other dogs in the household should not be allowed to bother the momma dog and her puppies either. There is a risk of fighting between the adult dogs and possible risk to the puppies themselves. The female may get aggressive because she is protecting her puppies. This is normal and you shouldn't punish her for this instinct. Protective aggression toward humans may occur as well, so prevent children from bothering the puppies too. Unless she is filthy, wait a few weeks to give her a bath with a mild oatmeal shampoo formulated for dogs. Make sure to rinse her well in order to avoid leaving a residue that the puppies would come in contact with while nursing. The lactating dog needs to eat a high quality puppy food that is high in protein and calcium. This will allow her to produce substantial amounts of milk. She should eat puppy food until the puppies are weaned. Let her eat as much as she wants, which can often be four times her non-pregnant intake. You cannot overfeed her during this period, as making milk for puppies requires a lot of calories. Be aware that the first hours after giving birth, she is likely not going to eat much of anything at all. Getting too much calcium can set her up for milk fever later on. This can lead to seizures because the calcium levels in the blood are too low. If you suspect milk fever, seek immediate veterinary attention. During the first weeks, the new mom will be very busy keeping track and taking care of the puppies. It will be important for her to have access to them to keep the puppies warm and fed and clean. Take her out for short bathroom breaks for only minutes. A groomer or your veterinarian can do this procedure if you do not feel comfortable or do not have the equipment. Mammary gland infections mastitis do occur and can get very serious very quickly. If you see mammary glands that are very red or purple , hard, hot or painful, there is a problem. In some cases, mastitis has the potential to kill the nursing mother dog. If you suspect mastitis, take the dog immediately to your veterinarian. Even if you have to take her to an emergency veterinary hospital, it must happen immediately. It is normal for you to see vaginal discharge from the momma dog for a few weeks up to 8 weeks after birth. This discharge can look brownish red and look stringy. Occasionally a mild odor will be noticed. If you see yellow, green or gray material, or notice a foul odor, take your dog to your veterinarian. She may have an infection in her uterus. Make sure the puppies are nursing every few hours during the first few weeks. They should eat every hours at minimum. Happy puppies are sleeping puppies; if they are crying a lot, they may not be getting enough nutrition. Check for fat little bellies and clean coats to signal that they are well cared for. Try weighing the puppies on a digital scale to make sure that they are gaining weight every day. Puppies should double their weight in the first week. Take him to your veterinarian right away. He may require supplemental feeding or other help. If after the first few days, you see the rest of the puppies growing and one that is still small and skinny, this may be a sign of insufficient feeding or another problem. Take the puppy to a vet right away for an exam immediately. Newborn puppies, like newborn humans, can get sick and dehydrated quickly. As the puppies get older and more mobile, the confined area will get messier. Cleaning up after the puppies at least times per day will be needed to keep the whelping box sanitary. Puppies need healthy socialization to their new world, including introductions to people. Hold each puppy several times per day. Get the puppies accustomed to being touched everywhere on their bodies so that it will not seem strange when they are older. If you are selling or giving away the puppies, wait until they are 8 weeks old before handing them over to the new owners. In some states, like California, it is illegal to sell or give away puppies before 8 weeks of age. Puppies should be fully weaned and eating dog food on their own before they leave for a new home. Starting a deworming and vaccination program is often recommended before the pup leaves. Consult with your veterinarian and follow her recommendations. Pet Keen is reader-supported. Golden Retriever puppies are fluffy balls of joy, and you must be thrilled to welcome them into your home. But how many puppies should you be expecting from this upcoming litter? On average, Golden Retrievers can have around eight puppies. Litter sizes can vary depending on the breed of dog, so there are a few factors that can determine the litter size of your Golden Retriever. This article goes over what kind of litter you could be expecting based on your Golden Retriever mother. Litter Size: First-Time vs. This is the national average for first-time mothers, so it is normal for your dog to give birth to a few less or a few more. However, it is always important for her to have check-ups with a vet to ensure everything is going well with her puppies. It is very rare that your Goldie will have a single puppy birth. Litter sizes of over a dozen puppies are also possible with Golden Retrievers, but not as common. If your Golden Retriever is pregnant, it is safe to assume that she will give birth to four to nine puppies. While it is always important to feed your dog a healthy and balanced diet, pregnant dogs need high-quality vitamins and minerals and premium protein. Dog food that is filled with additives and fillers can affect the litter size. Diet will also be a factor in how healthy the puppies will be after birth and what their survival rate will be. Health: If your Golden Retriever is obese or not given enough exercise, this can affect the litter. An unhealthy Goldie will more than likely produce a small litter. The puppies might also be born weak and have a smaller chance of survival. Age of both parents. You do not want to breed your female Golden Retriever too young or too old. The age range for the female to be bred is 2 to 5 years old. However, if you wait to breed your Goldie for the first time after they are five years old, their litters will always be smaller in number. The age of the male is also a factor. The sperm count in males will decrease once they reach 5 years old. Genetics: Dogs that have a more diverse gene pool are more likely to have larger litters than dogs that have been overly inbred. This is why if you go to a breeder, ask them about the parents and if they have been tested for defects. Image Credit: PorChonlawit, Shutterstock Final Considerations If you are a dog owner, you already know how important health, diet, and exercise are for raising a strong and happy dog. These factors must also be considered when deciding if you want to breed your Golden Retriever. Have her checked with the vet before she gets pregnant to make sure she is healthy and able to carry a litter safely. Ensure the potential mate is also healthy and the right age. However, no matter the litter size, each puppy will be a bundle of pure joy! A Canadian expat, Nicole now lives on a lush forest property with her Kiwi husband and new baby daughter in New Zealand. There are a range of factors that contribute to the overall litter size. Often genetics play an important role in the size of the litter. The size of the breed as well as the overall health of parents also effect the total litter size. Golden retrievers are considered a large breed dog, resulting in larger litters. Many sites state various different ranges. Websites, with less authority, like Ask and PetPlanet have a range of puppies per litter. Their overall average is 8. The American Kennel Club used to state that the average litter size was in the range of .However, that information can no longer be found. With smaller litters it could quite possibly be that the bitch was not bred at the proper time. Some of the eggs may not have been fertilized. The stud may have tied too early, or too late. Or it could have been possible that the sire was too old and not producing an adequate sperm count. The overall health of both parents can also be considered. It could also be a problem with the mother, such as injury, or physical defects. With litters on the larger end, sometimes they may have to be delivered cesarean. If the time of delivery is too long, some puppies may be stillborn. Cases have occurred where a puppy may be retained in the uterus causing other problems. Litters this large are generally not in the best interest of the mother. From my experience, most litters are indeed around in number. That could just be coincidental. Further litters often will have less. This is just something I have seen, but is not scientific. It is also important to note that male and female ratios can go in either directions. It is also possible to have a litter with all one gender. Our recent litter from Tina came out all female. She had eight female puppies at once. I was told by another breeder that she had a litter of 10 that were all female. It is very unlikely, but it does happen. We derived that number from hundreds of litters from various breeders. As mentioned above, the range is between 1 to 15 puppies in a litter. A breeder can find out how many puppies a female may have while pregnant via x-ray or ultrasound. An x-ray can be taken after the bones have ossified. That occurs around days of gestation. Ultrasounds can be taken around days to confirm pregnancy, but confirming the litters size is less accurate. It is however less damaging on the mother and puppies.
