We kept each of our puppies on a leash in the house, never out of our sight except when they were in the crate for 4 months before we gradually gave them independence. We always messed with them and held them. They had accidents as you would expect until fully house trained at about 4 months, but never any destructive or aggressive behavior. We gave them plenty of tough chew toys. Also training classes. They were never nervous or skittish. They love to lay on us and never have had any trouble with grooming, food guarding, loud noises, children or other animals. Day 2 no problem at all. Now just the occasional cry when I leave her but that is over with in a very short space of time. I also leave a low radio on for her. She uses the garden most of the time for toileting, but occasionally she will come into the house and do another wee. The problem I have at the moment is trying to stop her biting. I have tried the gentle command which she listens to some of the time. And I have tried standing and turning my back on her so she realises I am not playing when she bites, but she will then go for trousers or feet, which I try my best to ignore, or she will just go off and do something else like chew a mat or something which is a no no. The Boxer is the larger of the two dogs, and if the puppies favour the Boxer parent, they will be taller and have longer legs. However, as a rough guide, expect to see your puppy reach a height of between 17 to 23 inches. Final Thoughts A Bullboxer Staff cross will be a loving, loyal and protective family companion. You will need to show patience when training and only use reward-based training methods. The Staffie will give unconditional love to children, and because he is calmer, he would be considered the better choice for families with children. The Boxer also tends to adore children, but he can be quite accident-prone because of his pent up energy. This can lead to accidents and injuries, with small children being especially prone to these accidents. Whether your Bullboxer Staff is lively or calm will depend on which parent breed he takes after, but he will not intentionally harm the children in his family. He will usually get along with other dogs, and he can be introduced to other dogs readily in any location. He is not prone to protecting his territory, either, so he should be relatively safe to introduce to other canine family members. However, no breed is the perfect choice for all potential owners, and before buying or adopting a Bullboxer Staff you should consider the following factors to determine whether he is right for you. Expect to feed up to three cups of food per day. The actual amount you feed will depend on the quality of the food and its calorific content. It will also depend on the dog itself. If your dog is lively and active, and he gets a lot of daily exercises, you are likely to have to feed the full amount to ensure that he has the energy. If he is more sedentary and does not get out for long runs, feed less. This is just as important as physical exercise. A bored dog full of energy can become a destructive and even an anti-social dog, whereas a tired dog is a good dog. You should still give him an occasional brushing because this will help remove dead hair. Weekly brushing helps prevent his hair from becoming knotted and matted. This is not only uncomfortable for your dog, but it can lead to hair and skin complaints that last for years. Your Bullboxer Staff will not require any hair cutting or trimming and you will not need to visit a professional groomer. You should not bathe your dog, except when it is necessary. If you bathe your dog too often, it removes the natural oil from their hair. This oil keeps their hair in good condition. It also protects the skin. Both the purebred Staffy and their hybrid offspring only look mean. Any aggression they may exhibit will be due to a person's intentions and not from the dog's natural Staffy x Boxer temperament. Properly socialized, these dogs are very loyal, are wonderful with kids, and have a huge heart. They may have a tendency to nip and mouth play, and this should be gently trained out so that when they are older, accidents don't happen. Training tends to be easy for the right person. These dogs can be stubborn, and they are aware of their strength — although they won't use it unless actually threatened. They should be socialized as very young puppies, and training must be firm yet patient and gentle. Just keep in mind that the habits they are allowed to have as puppies may not be as adorable when they are fully mature and weigh more than pounds! The best thing is to understand the health profiles of the two parent breeds. Like all dogs, however, these purebreds and their hybrid puppies can develop typical dog problems. You should be sure that the breeder provides proper health papers and vet certificates as well as keep your dog updated with shots and regular vet visits.
