Other symptoms can include redness, swelling, irritation, discharge, and excessive head shaking or scratching at the ear. Vets can treat ear infections with antibacterial or antifungal medications, but they need to be treated quickly before they spread or cause permanent damage. Trauma Physical trauma to the ears can also cause them to droop. The most common trauma that causes changes to the shape of the ears in German Shepherds are bites from fighting with other dogs. If your dog has a visible injury to their ear, you should take them to see their vet to check it over and dress any wounds to prevent infection. Make sure to brush your GSD regularly, also around the head and ears — these dogs shed heavily! You can get these over-the-counter at your vet, online, or in a pet store. More Room for Error If your Labrador puppy wears a collar, you need to follow his growth closely lest the collar begins choking him. Above all, it is more noticeable when your puppy outgrows his harness compared to when he outgrows his collar. In the worst-case scenario, you get to hold back your Lab with sheer force without hurting him as much. Tugging on a collar when your Labrador is trying his best to get away is heartless. That said, you should note that dogs give in more easily when their collar is tugged compared to holding back a harness. They have thyroid glands, lymph nodes, the trachea, the oesophagus and of course, the spinal cord — along with a host of other veins and arteries. Just the same as it would, for a human. There is some research which suggests that eye-pressure increases in dogs wearing collars, when they pull. Eye pressure does not increase in dogs wearing harnesses. You might have noticed the collar almost cutting into her throat, as she pulls into it. Perhaps your Labrador puppy stands up on her back legs, when she wants to greet another puppy — bearing her full weight on her throat. She might cough afterwards. When puppies used to wear collars to my training classes, I would often see them waiting for class, rearing on their back legs to reach other puppies. You want your Labrador puppy to calm down, perhaps to sit and greet a person, or at least stop pulling. Doing all of that, involves thought, for a dog. So, we need to put your Labrador puppy into a frame of mind where they are able to think about how to earn your rewards. A harness means that your Labrador puppy is restrained, but also able to concentrate and problem-solve. Yes and no. The permanent and most effective solution to pulling on the lead, is training — regardless of whatever device or piece of equipment you use. Loose-lead training can be an ongoing process. Some Labradors have higher energy levels than others, and these might be especially challenging and rewarding! You should not feel like a failure or give up, if you are finding it difficult. Instead, get in touch with a force-free trainer who will be able to help you. During the time you are training your Labrador puppy to walk beside you, and even once you have trained your Labrador to walk on a loose-lead most of the time, sometimes you are going to come across things which interest her. It could be some food which someone has dropped in the street. Or another dog she wants to greet. Or a cat which runs out in front of you. It is almost impossible to imagine a Labrador — even a well-trained and responsive Labrador — which is healthy and which never attempts to reach something, when on the lead! And at those times, the leash is going to go tight. And all these points, will come into play. So: Yes, the solution is training. So we need to choose a piece of equipment which is the most humane and which can help our training, under those circumstances. When pulling towards something on a collar, they can easily tow you a few steps behind them. There are safety issues, here, as they could tow you into a road. But also the few steps they managed to pull you, will reward the pulling a good deal. They got closer to what they wanted, by pulling. Pulling worked. And so they will continue trying to pull, next time they see something they want. So, we need to reduce their power so we can stop even a large, strong dog, immediately. Does a harness reduce their power in this way? Not all harnesses… Back-attaching harnesses Many years ago, I first tried a harness on one of my dogs. I found that this harness gave her much more power. If she suddenly lunged, she could tow me more with a harness than she could with a collar! With the back-attaching harness, when the lead was tight because there was something in front of her which she found interesting , her face and neck was orientated away from me and was at a distance from me. I found it difficult to get her attention, using treats or my voice, because that front part of her body was so far away and I was behind her. I saw dogs jumping up on their back legs and flailing their front legs around. So, the back-attaching harness solved all of the physical health concerns which collars had held, for me. My dog was no longer choking herself on the odd occasion she wanted to reach something. For the owners of small or toy breeds, the back-attaching harness seemed perfect. But it was not viable for me, because of the decreased control I had over large and strong dogs and the difficulties in training which this caused. But at the time there was nothing else available, so I reluctantly returned to a flat collar. Design and features Setup Setting up the Puppy Cube was straight-forward. Once cables are plugged in, the rear panel may be reinstalled to give a nice clean look to the unit. The Puppy Cube arrives with a partially-charged battery. I charged the Puppy Cube for several hours until the battery-charge indicator light turned from orange to green. The only real problem I had setting up the Puppy Cube was finding a large enough flat surface upon which to test the system. Performance I am going to break this review into three parts: projector, projector and HID human interface device , and stand-alone media device. The Puppy Cube can project onto either a horizontal surface e. The integrated camera is only available when the Puppy Cube is projecting onto a vertical service. The camera is set to point straight out from the Puppy Cube. This means that unless you put the projector up on a stand or a stack of books, you only get a video of yourself from the shoulders down unless you hunch over. Projector When used as just a projector the Puppy Cube performs as well as most other p-native projectors. The image is bright enough for use in dimly-to-moderately-lit rooms. The auto-focus and keystone corrections function well. The Puppy Cube successfully displayed p, p, 2K, and 4K feeds. Videos played well at all resolutions using HDMI, but desktop images at 2K and 4K resolutions suffered from noticeable degradation when down-sampled to the native resolution of the projector. Apps will automatically appear in English if you set the device to that language only two options anyway, English and Chinese. Apps that only work in portrait mode will require you to move the device, which can be annoying at times - landscape mode is definitely preferred. If you want, you can connect peripherals to the puppy cube. I'd recommend the latter, to which I've connected a mouse, keyboard, headphones and a PS4 controller, not to mention the included remote control. Here's where the real magic happens - if you tilt the puppy cube down, and have it project to a wall instead of a table, you can up to inches of screen. While you lose the touchscreen functionality if you make the screen size any larger than 23 inches, you can still use the peripherals just fine. What that means is that you get a computer the size of a big milk carton, and a screen as big as your entire wall. Load up any productivity apps and you're able to do real work on this thing. It will also auto focus, but by using the remote you can also manually fine-tune the focus as well. Or just watch Netflix, or YouTube. The puppy cube can work as a stand-alone device in horizontal mode, but also as a regular projector. The integrated speakers are decent, and the device can even act as Bluetooth speakers! And let's not forget that it is portable. The battery will last minutes according the the official information, which should be enough for at least a full-length movie and then some. But despite all the versatility, there are some cons too. The lack of GMS being the biggest one, but there are a few others too. I'll list both pros and cons below. But the pros certainly outweighs the cons. But if you just want a portable projector, then you might be better off buying something cheaper. The form factor is great and the virtual interface is really awesome and unique. However as a projector -- ummm. I was really disappointed when I connected the device to HDMI direct, there were slight delays and the audio was not always in synch with the picture3. My mac kept saying the device screen settings could not be determined and the resolution was all over the place both mirrored or as separate displays 4.
