Meet Truffle Shuffle!! We rescued her in April from the shelter when she needed help. She has opened up so much since then and her true personality has finally come out. Truffle is such a character and your typical female bulldog. She can still be timid and skittish with new people but warms up pretty quick. Just needs someone patience who is willing to give her a chance. When she becomes your best friends all she wants is to be petted and be right next to you. She is selective with other dogs at first, but does well with most dogs as long as she can be the queen. Truffle does better with the calmer male dogs. No small children. When we first took Truffle in she had horrible infected ears, nasty skin, and was struggling with her breathing. Bulldogs have such a hard time breathing being a brachycephalic dog. Awareness is key. Please do your research before getting any type flat faced dog. Truffle is around 3 years old. She is house trained and crate trained which she would need to continue in any household. Truffle is fully vetted, spayed, vaccinated, and microchip. When we adopt out our dogs we want it to be their forever home, not until the family gives up on them. Hearing and vision loss can progress at a faster rate than changes in behavior. If our dog is selective in hearing or behaves strangely, we may suspect he is engaging in a pattern of behavior. Dogs of any age, gender, or breed may experience hearing loss. When a person does not recall clearly, this is frequently the first indication that they are hearing impaired. The symptoms of an ear infection may manifest in all parts of the ear. Infections can progress to the middle and inner ear if the eardrum is crossed. By simply moving the location of his crate and showing him that the crate was his "safe place", he began to realize it wasn't just somewhere he went when his family was leaving. At this point, we noticed that a lot of the deaf dog's anxiety was actually stemming from their other dog! She was extremely anxious and paced the house constantly, never sitting still. We showed the owners how to work on teaching her a "Down, stay" so she could just relax in the house instead of frantically trying to control her owners every movement. The deaf dog also had a little fear of new people that we showed the owners how to overcome. We taught them "door control" so that their dogs would patiently accept a new person coming over and not go into a "puppy rodeo" all over the house. Previously the deaf dog would hide behind the owners or growl and using "door control" helped make the owner's new expectations very clear and he complied very quickly. These owners had a lot on their hands with one GSD being overly anxious and spastic and the other deaf and in fear. Now, they know how to conquer all these issues and consistantly work with both of their dogs in a calm, loving way the dogs will respond positively to. With no more anger and frustration in the house. The deaf dog is now crated without issue while they are away now that he can love his crate instead of fearing it. We love staying in touch with the owners so we know that everyone is happy and living in harmony and even after checking up with them a few times, everyone is doing great!
