English Boodle Video Temperament Considered one of the gentlest, friendliest, and most social dogs, the boodles are compatible with kids as well as other household pets. Because of their family-oriented nature, they not only enjoy the company of their owners but also exhibit equally good behavior towards other members of the family. Although they usually remain calm and quiet, prolonged loneliness and boredom may induce destructive behavior, accompanied by incessant barking. Since they are naturally attentive, they make good watchdogs alerting their families of an impending danger. Care Exercise Unlike a few other breeds, the boodle dog has a variable need, as far as its activity level is concerned. In general, this dog is suitable for apartment life, and it loves spending time indoors as much as playing outdoors. Securely leashed walks as well as off-lead playing sessions on a regular basis will keep your dog fit and happy. Occasional clipping or trimming is also required, but consulting a professional groomer is recommended in this regard. Bathing with a gentle shampoo should be done once in a while to maintain its soft and silky curls as well as to keep away skin infections. Health Problems Although it is not known to suffer from any severe genetic problems, your boodle may have some other health concerns including PRA, epilepsy, skin infections, and heart diseases. If you see any abnormal or uncharacteristic behavior in your pet, you should call the vet immediately. Training First-time owners will find it difficult to train this dog since it may show occasional stubbornness that can only be dealt with firm, fair, patient, and consistent training methods. Since it does not respond to heavy-handed training methods, make sure you avoid them. The boodle puppies should be taught to obey basic instructions like lie down, sit, and stay. Normal house training including crate and socialization training should be given at a young age to make it more gentle, affectionate, and family-oriented. Feeding Food sources rich in protein, carbohydrates, and fats should be given to the young dogs for their growth. You can give your pet quality dry dog food regularly in amounts ranging from one and a half to two and a half cups. Interesting Facts These dogs are not bothered by hot or cold temperatures and can survive in every climate. The adult boodles do not have the same abundance of energy as seen in the puppies. You should know exactly what to expect once you bring your new pooch home for the first time. This combination can be challenging at times but is also almost always rewarding when all is said and done. This beautiful mixed breed also goes by the names Bullydoodle, Bully Poo, Bulldogdoodle, and Bulldogpoo. It will bark when someone comes to the door but quickly accept the visitors once welcomed inside. The English Boodle has an inherent willingness to please and loves attention, so owners will usually find their dogs standing right by their side. Most English Boodles are very energetic when they are young and need lots of outdoor exploration and playtime. As they get older, these dogs tend to slow down and mellow out a little, even though they will never entirely lose their spunkiness. Are These Dogs Good for Families? These dogs will spend all day playing in the yard with kids young and old. This mixed breed is tolerant of things like ear tugs and rough-housing, and gentle enough to learn how to walk on a leash with even younger kids. They thrive in multi-pet households that may include dogs, cats, or a combination of both. But these dogs will also enjoy their lives as an only pet if they get plenty of human attention. You should know how to take specific care of an English Boodle before you even consider adopting one so you know exactly what will be expected of you. This mixed breed can eat up to 3 cups of food each day, depending on their size and activity level. Treats can be used to supplement meals after an active adventure. This exercise can be in the form of walking, hiking , agility practice, and even indoor play with training toys. But even later in life, you can expect your English Boodle to accompany you on daily walks and occasional camping trips. The stubbornness of the English Boodle can interfere with the effectiveness of your training, so it is important to be patient yet firm while teaching your pup new commands and tricks. This breed does well when it comes to agility training. Daily brushing is a necessity to keep mats from developing and knots from forming. Some English Boodles have such long coats that they need to be trimmed on a regular basis. Regular baths will keep the coat from getting smelly over time. Minor Conditions. A post shared by Pepper mydoggiepepper Appearance Boodle puppies differ in size, shape, and features, depending on the genes they inherit from their parents. Height and weight Since English Boodles are a mix of these two breeds, their size and weight will vary depending on which parent breeds they take after more. They are usually small or medium-sized dogs, standing between 12 and 16 inches tall. Their weight can range from 15 to 50 pounds, and they have a stocky and boxy body, regardless of their size. Coat When it comes to coat types, a Bulldog Poodle mix can take after either parent breed or be a mix of both. Their coat can be short-to-medium in length, and curly, wavy, or straight in texture. A Boodle puppy may be red, fawn, black, or white. Some puppies may also develop gray, silver, or blue coats. The shades will differ, and the coat may be solid, with a single color, or have brindle patterns in two or more colors. Personality and temperament An English or French Bulldog Poodle mix dog can make a great family pet because of its playful personality. These dogs are loyal companions for children, though you should be careful when a large Bulldog Poodle mix is around a toddler. They are also great around other pets! English Bulldog English Bulldogs are known for their kind, easy-going, and loving nature. Despite their sometimes intimidating appearance, English Bulldogs are not aggressive and can even become friends with strangers. Keep in mind that English Bulldogs require regular exercise and grooming to stay healthy and happy. They may not be the most active dogs, but they still need daily walks and playtime. Also, their wrinkles need to be cleaned regularly to prevent skin irritation and infections. Overall, the English Bulldog is a fun dog breed that pet lovers all over the world adore! Poodle The Poodle is an intelligent, sophisticated, playful, and obedient dog. These dogs absolutely love to interact with humans and are playful with their family members. Their eagerness to please their humans, combined with their intelligence, makes them quick learners who can easily pick up tricks and training. However, they are also known for being emotional and sensitive dogs. Experienced dog owners understand the importance of exposing Poodles to various experiences to prevent them from becoming hypersensitive, which can lead to anxiety. English Boodle Alert English Boodle dogs are highly alert and have a keen sense of hearing. They make excellent watchdogs and will bark to alert their owners of any potential danger. Neither the Poodle or the English Bulldog is a confrontational dog. Affectionate English Boodle dogs are known for their affectionate and loving nature. They love a good cuddle and adore being around their family members. Social English Boodle dogs are highly social and enjoy the company of their owners and other pets. That being said, they may need a bit more time to get the hang of obedience training. Playful English Boodle dogs are highly energetic and love to play. They are great at entertaining themselves but also love playing with children and other animals! They are playful and enjoy games like fetch, hide and seek, and tug-of-war. Poodles, on the other hand, remain high-energy dogs well into older age. English Boodles have medium levels of energy and need daily exercise to tire them out. Think daily walks, jogs, and playing fetch in the park. Diet English Bulldogs tend to overeat and become overweight, and so can the English Boodle. Grooming These adorable pups require a lot of grooming to keep their coats in good shape. As low-to-no-shedding dogs, they need regular brushing and combing to prevent tangles and mats. Price English Boodle puppies are challenging to find. As I mentioned earlier, most of the time these dogs are in shelters and not from breeders. Health issues English Boodles may face some of the same health problems that their parent breeds face. Skin Fold Dermatitis: a condition where the folds of skin on the face, neck, and tail can become infected and inflamed, leading to itchiness, redness, and odor. You can keep your English Boodle healthy by taking regular trips to the vet—when necessary—feeding your dog high-quality dog food, and giving them enough exercise. Lifespan The average lifespan of Poodles is around years, while the average lifespan of English Bulldogs is around years. However, we can assume that a healthy English Boodle can live to be the same age as its parents. Final Words The English Boodle dog is a mixed breed with a low shedding coat and a friendly personality. This designer dog is rare and hard to find, and you might only find them in shelters and rescues. With proper care and attention, an English Boodle can make a wonderful addition to any household. Bulldogs struggled for popularity in the UK following the outlawing of the sport, though were transitioned by admirers of the breed from fighting dogs to companions. Today, the Bulldog enjoys great popularity in the United States, despite their aggressive past. In general, the Bulldog makes a great family pet but is also suitable for singles and couples alike. While official, factual documentation is hard to come by, there is some suggestion that the Bulldog was one of the original dogs used to create the Boxer, in Germany in the midth century, following their exportation from the UK to Germany and the United States after the ban on blood sports. Beyond their British history, Bulldogs today make popular crosses for those looking to infuse their strength and power into a mixed-breed dog. Some of the most popular Bulldog crosses include:. Boodle puppies What is a Boodle mix? Could the parent breeds of the Bulldog Poodle mix look any more different from each other? What kind of dog is the result of a stout English Bulldog crossed with an elegant Poodle? How Big is the Poodle x Bulldog? Boodle size ranges hugely because they combine a medium sized, chunky build breed with a potential of three different sizes of lighter build dog, the Poodle! Poodle size Poodles come in three different sizes: standard , miniature, and toy. The standard is the largest and oldest type, and the smaller Poodles were bred down in size. The size of your Bulldog Poodle mix will depend on what size Poodle was used in the cross. Poodles can range from 4 pounds in weight and 10 inches in height at the shoulder to 70 pounds and over 15 inches in height. All Poodles share an elegant and dignified bearing. Bulldog size The English Bulldog has a much stouter and stockier build than the Poodle. They stand between 14 and 15 inches tall and weigh between 40 and 50 pounds. Full grown Boodle size The size of your adult Boodle will depend on the size of the parents. A Bulldog crossed with a larger Poodle will generally result in a medium sized dog, weighing around 40 to 55 pounds and standing 14 to 16 inches tall. A Bulldog crossed with one of the smaller sized Poodles can produce a small to medium sized dog, with a weight range of about 15 to 40 pounds and standing around 12 to 14 inches in height. Remember that any mixed breed dog can favor one parent breed over the other or might be a blend. Poodle Cross Bulldog Coat and Grooming The Bulldog and the Poodle breeds have different types of coats, leading to a wide variety of coat possibilities in the mix. Poodle Coat Poodles have a dense and curly coat that comes in a wide range of solid colors. Many Poodle owners take their dogs to professional groomers to trim and maintain their coats, because at-home grooming can be time consuming. They are low shedders, which makes them a popular choice for people with allergies. Bulldog Coat Bulldogs have a short, smooth coat. The coat comes in a wide range of colors and markings. Popular coat patterns include brindle and piebald. Bulldog Poodle Mix Coats As with size, coat type and color can favor one parent breed over the other or be any combination of the two. Many Bulldog Poodle mixes have a short to medium length coat. The texture can be straight, curly, or wavy. Colors and patterns range widely, since there are so many possibilities in the parent breeds. A Bulldog mixed with a Poodle should be a low to medium shedder, usually requiring a bit less grooming than a purebred Poodle. Be sure to spend time around them before taking one home if you have pet allergies. Both parent breeds have appealing personality traits, which should be reinforced with good socialization and training. The English Bulldog is very calm, loving, and loyal. Poodles are known for their keen intelligence, trainability, and active and alert nature. The Bulldog Poodle mix can be a good choice for families with children and other household pets. They require a moderate level of activity and can make good apartment pets. Always use positive reinforcement training techniques. Boodle personality tends to lead to them being very attached to their owners, and they may experience separation anxiety if left alone for long periods of time. Bulldog Mix Poodle Health As we mentioned earlier, potential owners of a Bulldog Poodle mix should be aware of the genetic health problems of both parent breeds. A Boodle puppy could inherit any condition that comes from either of their lines. Poodle Health Issues There are a significant number of genetic health conditions that can occur in the Poodle. Poodles, especially standard Poodles, can be prone to canine idiopathic epilepsy. Affected dogs will require medication to control seizures throughout their lives. Toy and miniature Poodles have inherited health conditions, as well. Among the most common is a degenerative eye disease called progressive retinal atrophy. Also joint problems are often found in small dog breeds luxating patella and Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. Bulldog Health Issues We said earlier that many veterinarians are cautioning potential Bulldog owners about the health problems associated with the breed. These problems are due to a lack of genetic diversity and the inherent physical structure of the dog. Flat-muzzled brachycephalic breeds, like the Bulldog, suffer from breathing, eye, and dental problems. The respiratory problems can be severe and even life-threatening. Is the Bulldog Poodle Mix Healthier? Given the significant health issues of the parent breeds, is it possible to find a healthy Bulldog Poodle mix puppy? Mixed breed dogs can inherit the genetic health problems of both parent breeds, but there are ways to minimize the risk that your puppy will inherit a serious genetic disease. The cross breeding of two purebred dogs to create a so-called designer mixed breed is an increasingly popular trend among dog lovers. The Poodle is an especially popular choice for mixed breeds, both for its intelligence and personality, as well as for its reputation as being a hypoallergenic dog breed. Health of Crosses Many people assume that mixed breed dogs are healthier than purebred dogs. This is a concept in genetics called hybrid vigor. Both the English Bulldog and the Poodle have some serious inherited health problems that can be passed down to a mixed breed puppy. Will mixing a Bulldog with a Poodle improve the health of the cross? Bulldog Poodle Mix Puppies Always choose a Boodle breeder who health tests their dogs for genetic disorders. There are two kinds of tests you should ask about: DNA testing and physical veterinary exams. There are DNA tests for some of the health conditions found in both breeds. Other health problems, especially those of the joints and eyes, can be detected with physical exams. Your breeder should provide you with the results of all health testing. Most will also offer clients some form of contract or health guarantee. Never buy a Bulldog Poodle mix puppy from an online ad or at a retail pet store. Make sure that you meet the Bulldog parent. A Healthier Pup? And these dogs may well have a lot of them. Fortunately, there are some other lovely Poodle mixes out there you might like to consider. Whatever you decide, choose your breeder and individual puppy carefully. Also be sure that you are prepared to care for a dog that may have special needs. English Boodles also boast a low-shedding coat, thanks to their Poodle parentage. Boodles are loving friends to all they meet, human or animal. Gentle and affectionate, they are wonderful family dogs. Read on to learn more about the amazing English Boodle! Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. However, it is important to remember that every dog is unique, and the personality of an English Bulldog and Poodle mix may vary based on individual temperament and upbringing. In terms of physical appearance, English Bulldog and Poodle mixes may have a short, stocky build like the bulldog, with a curly, low-shedding coat like the poodle. They may also have wrinkled skin, a wide head, and a muscular physique, similar to the bulldog. Again, because Boodles are a mix of two breeds, there will be some variation between individual dogs. However, both English Bulldogs and Poodles are generally very friendly, loving, and affectionate dogs. Your English Boodle will most likely display these same traits. English Boodles are very social dogs who crave lots of attention. They want to be with their people as much as possible and might develop anxiety if left alone frequently. English Boodles are usually smart and eager to please. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They do well with children of all ages. If your English Boodle is on the smaller side, supervise them with rowdy kids and make sure your kids know how to play correctly with a dog to prevent any injury. Properly socializing your Boodle puppy with kids and other people will help them grow into a calm, accepting family pet. English Boodles are a very social, attention-seeking breed. They are a good choice for families who can spend plenty of quality time with their dog. Boodles very much want to be included in family life and may develop separation anxiety if they are left to themselves too often. Good-natured English Boodles generally get along quite well with other pets. You can help ensure this is the case by taking care to socialize Boodle puppies with dogs, cats, and other pets as soon as it is safe to do so. If you bring an adult English Boodle into your existing fur family, make sure to properly introduce your new Boodle to the other dogs and supervise interactions with cats and other pets as everyone gets used to each other. Here is some more detailed information about the health and general care of English Boodles to help you make an informed decision. In that case, your veterinarian can help you figure out the best food to feed. Make sure to feed your English Boodle the right food for their stage of life whether a puppy, adult, or senior dog. This is especially important for Boodles because their activity levels change a lot between puppy and adulthood. Bulldogs are prone to being overweight and can have a lot of health problems as a result. If your Boodle takes after their Bulldog parent, weight could become a problem for them as well. English Boodle puppies are very energetic and will need lots of play and walks on their daily schedule. As they move into adulthood, Boodles will become more mellow. Adult Boodles will still need daily exercise to stay fit but not to the same level they did as puppies. They can quickly become overheated and can suffer from heatstroke. Be careful exercising your Boodle in the heat if they take after their Bulldog parent more than the Poodle. Poodles are one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs and are very eager to learn, a trait often passed on to English Boodles as well. Positive training methods with plenty of rewards usually work very well for Boodles. When a Bulldog decides not to do something, it can take a lot of persuasion to change their mind! Continue patiently but firmly teaching with positive reinforcement. If you are having trouble, your veterinarian can suggest training resources to help you and may also be able to recommend good local dog training classes. Some Boodles have short fur like a Bulldog while others have a longer wavy or curly coat. If your Boodle takes after their Poodle parent more, you may need to plan on regular trips to the groomer for a trim as well. Also, make sure to keep their nails clipped and brush their teeth regularly. However, because there is no way to predict exactly how the Poodle and Bulldog genetics are going to mix, Boodles could be prone to any inherited health conditions that impact either breed. Minor Conditions. Are you looking to buy or adopt an English Boodle? Want to know more about its characteristics and whether it is the right pet for you? Then read on, this guide is for you! Bulldog Poodle mixes are a cross or hybrid dog breed obtained through the mating of a Standard or Miniature Poodle with an English Bulldog. To learn about their origins, let us briefly study the parent breeds. English Bulldog English Bulldogs were bred for the gory sport of bull-baiting. Later on, the bloody sport was banned and the breed almost became extinct. Thankfully, the efforts of some Bulldog lovers revived it back. The breed remains one of the most popular dog breeds and two American Presidents and several celebrities have been its proud owners. Poodle Poodles are available in three sizes which are recognised by the AKC. These are Miniature, Toy, and Standard Poodles. The Poodle breed was first developed in Germany to assist duck hunters to retrieve fowl from the water. Today, they are considered among the most trainable dog breeds and consistently rank in the list of the top 10 most intelligent dogs. Poodles are ideal for crossing and creating designer dog sets because of their intelligence, sweet nature, hypoallergenic coats, and also their high-trainability. They also have great longevity. When combined with the English Bulldog which is known for its loving nature and calm disposition, you get a sweet dog that is willing to take on any training challenges. The Poodle also helps overcome the structural issues brachycephalic noses of the English Bulldog, creating a healthy designer breed. English Boodles have a distinguished look unlike other Doodle breeds hybrid dogs having one Poodle parent. They are small-to-medium-sized dogs and their size depends on the Poodle variety the breeder uses in their breeding program. English Boodles usually measure between inches .Many of these dogs are white, black, fawn, tan, or brindle-coloured. English Boodles could inherit the short legs and tail of the Bulldog or they might develop the slender build and curly coat of the Poodle. In short; there can be a lot of variation in these dogs since there is no set standard. Being hybrid dogs, they are not recognised by the traditional clubs that set these standards. If you want a smaller non-shedding dog, you can always ask the breeder for puppies obtained by breeding an F1 first generation Boodle back to a Toy or Mini Poodle. Fewer Poodle genes will result in a thick, short coat like the English Bulldog. Are Boodles Hypoallergenic? There is no yes or no answer to the question — is the English Boodle hypoallergenic? The answer depends on complex canine genetics. In the case of the English Bulldog, its coat sheds seasonally and it is not hypoallergenic. Therefore, a first-generation or F1-English Boodle puppy cross of purebred English Bulldog and purebred Poodle may or may not be hypoallergenic as it could have genes of both parents. However, if you have an F1-B generation English Boodle puppy a first generation English Boodle crossed back to a Poodle , then the chances are that their puppies will shed a lot less. A Word of Caution About Hypoallergenic Doodle Dogs The reason why Doodles became so popular in the first place is that they were marketed as hypoallergenic dogs. Poodles and Poodle crossbreeds generally shed little, which, in turn, reduces the amount of dander released in your home. The dander is what is responsible for itchy eyes and runny noses that allergy sufferers are familiar with. So, if you have pet allergies, you might want to test out a few dogs you can be around, without feeling sick. The best breeders conduct DNA tests for shedding genes and only breed dogs that shed minimally. This too can reduce your chances of suffering from dog allergy symptoms. English Boodles get their intelligence from their Poodle genes and eagerness to please, and their loving, calm and affectionate natures from their English Bulldog parent. English Boodles are the epitome of sweetness. They get along well with everyone and work well in any type of home. They are a pleasure to be around. They love being a part of the family activities and will make everyone smile with their silly antics. English Boodles are also calm and cuddly. Unlike the English Bulldog which has restrictions on the amount of exercise it can get owning to its brachycephalic nose, the Boodle can go for long walks and play for prolonged periods. They are gentle and friendly dogs that will make great companions for kids. However, their need to be around people and their overly-friendly nature means that they are not great as guard dogs. Also, if left alone for too long, they tend to develop separation anxiety. This can lead to destructive habits if the dog is not trained. However, it also comes with a downside. These dogs need plenty of mental stimulation. They also need you to come up with innovative ways of training them as Bulldogs can be stubborn. Therefore, a Boodle owner will have to think of creative ways to engage with their pet. Play-based training that utilises positive reinforcement is the best training method for poodle crossbreeds. Boodles mostly do well with other pets but will need some socialisation. Once they are socialised, they will welcome the company of another pet — including pets like cats. If not trained in the skill of independence , they are likely to need someone to keep them company. Once you opt to bring home an English Boodle, you will want to become active. These dogs need at least twice-daily walks of minutes along with a game of fetch indoors or in the yard. But exercise it you must, because, without it, these pups can get bored, depressed, and destructive. Finally, if you are still on the fence about whether the English Boodle is right for you, then understand that these companion dogs will brighten your life. They are family-friendly dogs and when you buy one from a good breeder, it also might shed less and keep your home free of pet fur. If you have decided you want a dog, then the English Boodle can be an excellent choice. How Much is an English Boodle? The price of the English Bulldog-Poodle mix is not fixed. In a video shared on December 1, Golden Retriever Winnie can be seen lying in her bed looking despondent. However, her sadness quickly turns to excitement with the arrival of puppy Scarlett—delivered via a basket in the front yard. Winnie's owner, TikTok user Kathleen Walsh winnieandscarlett , believed the two-year-old golden girl was lonely, so decided to get another dog for her to play with. Since being shared, the cute clip has received almost eight million views and over one million likes. Left, Golden Retriever Winnie meeting puppy Scarlett for the first time. Right, Winnie and Scarlett on their deck at home. Dogs are known as man's best friend for a reason. Canine companions have been by our side for more than 30, years, and even evolved "puppy dog eyes" to communicate with us better. But is socialization with human owners enough to keep a dog happy? She told Newsweek that whether or not a pooch will get lonely in a one-dog household depends on their personality. If your dog is a lone wolf, then it can be content with just its humans for company. Winnie and Scarlett's owner Kathleen Walsh said the pair love snuggling together. This is also why some breeds are more likely to have separation anxiety than others. If you're thinking of bringing a puppy home to keep your older dog company, Smith said it's important to introduce them correctly —unless you want the fur to fly. As well as making sure both dogs have their own bowls, beds and space, you need to remember that two dogs are twice the work for you. Pet expert and puppy trainer Andrea Arden of New York City demonstrates best training practices for new pups. Captain, a golden retriever puppy, has been seen by millions of people on TikTok. That's because Captain, now almost 13 weeks old, first met his new owner Carly Hudson at the Melbourne, Australia, airport as he was brought out in a crate to her after the flight. Hudson told Fox News Digital that the puppy took a solo flight from Brisbane to Melbourne to reach his new owner — and the moment was clearly overwhelming to both of them. Hudson posted a TikTok of the pair's initial encounter as Captain was let out of his carrier at the airport. Little Captain, a golden retriever puppy, took a solo flight to Melbourne, Australia, to meet his new owner, Carly Hudson. The video caption reads: "The day Captain flew interstate to complete [our] family. Hudson runs a TikTok account that is now dedicated to Captain called "carlyandcaptain," which shows the pup as he grows up. One commenter wrote to the pup's new mom and dad, "He is gorgeous. Congratulations on becoming pawrents. They appear to have the characteristics of empathy and unconditional love, which Captain seems to have in spades for his owner. He loves his poodle, Riley, and has been known to play with cats on occasion, even though he's allergic to them. Other interests include ice cream, riding his bicycle, and the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. He lives in Iowa. Daily Paws' Editorial Guidelines Published on December 9, I wish I could be as excited about anything as this golden retriever is upon meeting his two new puppy brothers. We meet our friend Finn in a TikTok video posted Tuesday from the account thegoldenbros3. He's sitting at the front door of a house, excitedly watching as a man cradling a puppy approaches. He drops down to a knee on the other side of the glass door—an excellent way to introduce two dogs —so Finn can get a better look at his new brother. Finn circles the human with a wagging tail and even rises up on his hind legs to investigate his new brother. The man lowers the puppy down to Finn's level again, allowing them to sniff each other. Joyously satisfied he has a new friend, Finn retrieves a toy for them to share. Gah, it's too much. In a video posted Wednesday , our guy got to meet both his new golden puppy brothers—Sully and Gus, who I think met Finn in the first video. This video is shorter, but Finn is just as thrilled to see them both. Meanwhile, both the puppies exchange playful paws and nuzzles while they're still in human arms—perhaps remembering their earlier cuddle session. The new trio seems to be doing great, and hopefully Finn can soon teach his baby brothers his best tricks. Was this page helpful? Play separate Bring your dog to a puppy socialization class as early as eight weeks to allow them to exhaust their energy with other puppies. This will relieve your adult dog from some of the puppy play and increase the foundation for positive interactions. We brought Emma home on a Saturday and took her to puppy class on Monday. Looks for an organization that sanitizes the play location and requires all puppies have at least their first round of vaccinations. Play sessions can be in short durations minutes. Older dogs will naturally give your puppy some corrections, and this is great for training manners. However, puppies can be like the Energizer bunny and can be more playful than your adult dog. They have not learned bite inhibition yet, and their razor-sharp shark teeth are as unpleasant to your adult dog as they are to you. Ellie likes her personal space, so watched her closely for times when she appeared overstimulated by mouthing and jumping. Behaviors to monitor and unacceptable play? Signs of tension, aggression, or fear Behaviors such as growling, snarling, snapping, charging, or biting Stiff body movements instead of bouncy Curled lip, low warning growl Ears pinned back Tucked tail One dog trying to jet away instead of taking turns You'll want to intervene and redirect if you see any of these signs. Do not pull them apart by the leash. Instead, quietly step in, separate the dogs, and distract them with a chew toy. This reassures the older dog they do not have to do it all on their own and that you will step in to rescue and support them. Be mindful of food, treats, and toys Continue to manage the environment to maximize the success of positive interaction. Pick up and remove anything your dog may be territorial over, which reduces resource guarding, when a dog reacts when they perceive a threat to a valuable resource in their possession. Feed each dog separately. You may also be interested in… About the Author Kevin Bubolz is the founder of Golden Retriever Life, an online community with a mission to spread smiles. Between the nonstop playing and precious puppy naps , these owners are going to have the best time with this duo. To say we're anything less than obsessed with these two puppies would be a lie. They're just too precious not to love them. Love it. Their friendship is only going to get stronger as they grow up together and we can't wait to see it all! Although, trixiesmith brings up a great point. The comment reads, "Now you need a brown one! We can't believe this family is tackling raising not one puppy, but two at the same time. They must have at least triple the amount of patience we have. When you do have a puppy and let them play with other dogs or humans, it's important to note the difference between normal play and aggressive play. You ideally want your puppy to learn to be more gentle with their mouth before five months. Looking for more PetHelpful updates? Follow us on YouTube for more entertaining videos. Their large size, endless energy, and extreme cleverness may just be too much for some people. Our star ratings below will give you a better idea if the German Shorthaired Pointerpoodle will end up being your perfect pooch. But it can certainly be more of a challenge to know exactly how the puppies are going to turn out in terms of their appearance and temperament. The best way to prepare yourself is to become familiar with the traits and health conditions of both parent breeds. Poodle mixes are incredibly popular The Poodle is easily one of the most popular parent breeds for a whole host of hybrids. One example is, of course, the Labradoodle. Created in the s, the Labradoodle took the hybrid dog world by storm and paved the way for many other crosses using the Poodle. Poodles have a low-shedding coat, a trait that they usually pass on to their offspring. This makes hybrid breeds with a Poodle parent a great choice for those with allergies, who may not be able to own a dog breed that sheds heavily. Thanks to the fact that Poodles also come in three sizes—standard, miniature, and toy—they can be crossed easily with other dog breeds, from the large German Shorthaired Pointerpoodle to the tiny Cockapoo. As such, we can thank the Poodle for a huge number of designer hybrid breeds, many of which have gone on to become incredibly popular! While the Poodle might now be the National Dog of France, the Poodle was originally bred in Germany over years ago. They were used as retrievers for duck hunts, where they excelled thanks to their incredible swimming skills, ability to think for themselves, and curly protective coat. The German Shorthaired Pointer has also been bred in Germany since the s, to help with bird hunts. They are versatile and willing to please and are never happier than when doing something active in the great outdoors. Both parent breeds are eager to please their owners, as well as being affectionate and kind. German Shorthaired Pointerpoodles will thrive with owners who can provide consistency and love in equal measure. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Whether you want to go backpacking in the mountains or camping by the lake, these dogs will love to be included. They also love to play fetch or learn agility and tricks with younger handlers. Their willingness to please means they can be more forgiving to amateur handlers than some other breeds. While they can be great dogs for families with smaller children, their large size does mean that they can inadvertently knock toddlers over with their enthusiasm. Younger children should always be supervised and taught good dog handling habits to maintain a peaceful and happy home for both dog and their owners. With that said, if introduced correctly, they can live happily with other dogs, cats, and smaller pets. German Shorthaired Pointers can be at risk of bloat due to their deep chests, and this is something that may also affect your German Shorthaired Pointerpoodle. While you might not feel like a long walk on a Sunday, your dog certainly will! These dogs make great partners for trail running, cycling, and hiking too. Your German Shorthaired Pointerpoodle is likely to love water, so retrieving games at the beach or lake is a great way to exercise this breed both mentally and physically. A securely fenced backyard is a great idea so you have somewhere for training sessions and games. Their intelligence means they can also quickly pick up bad habits, so puppy classes are an excellent idea to get you both working together consistently and effectively. Bored German Shorthaired Pointerpoodles are likely to turn their attention to finding something to destroy, so make sure you keep those brains well-occupied! Leaving it long can look pretty, but it can easily end up becoming tangled and matted, especially given how active this breed is. Any breeder will be happy to chat with you about these in more detail, as well as provide information on the health tests that the parent dogs may have had. Minor Conditions. I'm impressed. I love my GSP! She knows how to work and is learning to be a phenomenal hunter even at such a young age. Pebbles has been the most amazing addition to our family. My children fell in love at 1st sight. After much hard work on our end of convincing "The Man" of the house that we needed her, she's taken over our hearts and our house ever since. She's brainwashed the children into giving her a multitude of hugs, kisses, belly rubs and bedtime snuggles. I will be forever grateful to Heather and James for blessing our family in a way that words can't begin to describe. Clearly, our continued return over the years is an attestation in and of itself of how pleased we've been with the dogs. While all 3 certainly have there own unique personalities, all of them have qualities in common that would bring us back again in the future: They are incredibly smart, they are easy to work with and train, they've been loving and incredibly trustworthy with our children, and, of course, all 3 demonstrate innate instinct and true joy for the hunt. Submitted by: Eric on Dec 21, Bought 5 month old gap. Tons of drive, bold, birdy. Also a joy to have in the house. They are very knowledgeable and always willing to help and answer any questions you have. And for the dogs themselves they are awesome hunters and great also family dogs. Thanks again rose point kennels! Submitted by: Allison on Dec 20, James and Heather were wonderful to work with, very knowledgeable and quality pup. He was very shy, but full of energy. He is very loving to all of my family. I had him hunting 2 days after I got him and he has been to South Dakota the last 3 years. He points solid and is a retrieving machine. He loves to be around the family. He has been easy to train on an invisible fenced yard, with what areas of the house are off limits and we can't imagine not having Silver as a part of our family. James did a great job showing off his skills prior to purchase and was willing to meet me closer to my house for drop off of the dog. He chipped him for me. James has also provided really good nutrition advice as well as support via online communication. I highly recommend Rose Point for a loving pet that will perform really well in the field. Our pup had wonderful natural ability we were able to work with and he is now a great hunting dog. He is well on his way to achieving more titles and not only that, he is great in the everyday hunting field. We couldn't imagine hunting without his aide! James and Heather are very up front and clear on what they expect from us as owners and were very helpful with any questions we have. We really appreciate their continued support! Not only that but they offer other services like grooming, boarding and hunt training. If we need any of these things it is so much easier to bring our dog to a familiar place and feel confident that he is being properly taken care of! Submitted by: Tiffany Taylor on Dec 20, Rose point breeds exceptionally great dogs. Our gsp is one of the best we have owned.

How much attention do they pay to each pup? Look at the doggie parents as a good indicator of how your pup will be as an adult. They should be sociable, well-fed, and hygienic. Puppy mills are an unfortunate reality in the dog world today. Many people buy puppies from stores that are not good. These stores have dogs that live in bad conditions. There are lots of great places to get your next puppy, but there are also lots of puppy mills out there too. When you encounter these things it almost always means you have found an ethical, healthy, and responsible breeder. The main one is that they do not allow their dogs to be bought over the internet. Pug puppies are a great addition to any family, but finding a reputable pug breeder can be challenging. Never buy a puppy from an unregulated source, such as an ad in the classifieds, a pet store, or another mass-market setting. Like any other domestic animal, pug breed are susceptible to a host of diseases and health problems. Many breeders will screen their buyers in order to make sure that they are able to provide a healthy home for a pug puppy. Reputable breeders will also guarantee their puppies against hereditary defects. You can split this amount into two meals. The hybrid usually has the thick hair of a Schnauzer and the distinct facial shape and eyes of the Pug. This is one of the sweetest dog breedsarounds. The Schnauzer Pug mix is curious, mischievous, funny, and affectionate. Watch out for Pug dog encephalitis PDE , hip dysplasia, allergies, and cataracts. This dog is intelligent, attentive, easy to train and loves cuddles and being the center of attention. Two cups of good quality dog food and one hour of exercise or play is enough to keep this Schnauzer Cocker Spaniel mix healthy. Bernard and a Schnauzer. A Schnauzer St. However, studying the parent breeds can give the owner an indication of what to expect from this dog. The St. They were also used to help locate and save lost travelers. Both parent breeds are good with children. Breeders believe that a St. Bernard and Schnauzer mix will also be the same. The Schnauzer American Bulldog is one of the friendliest mixed breeds around. The breed is prone to obesity so daily exercise lasting 40 to 60 minutes is required. The Schnauzer American Bulldog mix is susceptible to cherry eye, hip dysplasia, cardiac disease, and respiratory problems. Dogs with shortened muzzles will have problems in extremely hot or cold conditions and should be monitored carefully. Researching the parent breeds will help in anticipating what this hybrid needs. This is not a dog for seniors or first-time owners. Based on its parent breeds, this hybrid is also intelligent and easy to train. A Schnauzer Akita mix is very rare so information about this breed is hard to come by. You can study the parent breed to get an idea about what to expect from this hybrid. They were also used to hunt bears and wild boar. The Schnauzer Akita hybrid is not a good choice for a novice owner or a senior citizen. A Schnauzer plus a Blue Heeler combination is not a popular one so information about this crossbreed is very rare. But you can learn more about them by studying the parent breeds. A Schnauzer Blue Heeler dog is energetic, agile, intelligent and very mischievous. Owners have to be patient as this smart and independent dog pulls tricks or tries to escape from the yard. The breed is also known as the Australian Cattle Dog. An English Schnauzer puppy is very placid and gentle. But this hybrid also has a stubborn side and tends to chase fast moving things. The Schnauzer English Bulldog can easily develop weight problems. Snacks should be avoided as well. This is a relatively healthy dog. Maintenance of this breed will depend on the coats they inherit from the parents. They typically require regular brushing with a rubber bristle brush or a slicker brush. The English Schnauzer also needs regular exercise to prevent obesity. Playing or exercising for 40 to 60 minutes every day is enough to keep this dog fit. Brushing up on the parent breeds will provide you with enough knowledge to raise a Golden Schnauzer puppy. With both parents known for their thick, luscious coats, a Schnauzer Golden Retriever mix will likely require regular brushing to prevent matted hair. The Golden Schnauzer breed needs plenty of exercises and mental stimulation to cope with their high energy levels. Boredom will cause this dog to act out and become destructive. A Schnauzer Pitbull mix is rare, as is information about this breed. Studying the two parent breeds will be helpful for prospective Pitnauzer owners. A Pitbull is very strong and energetic. This breed does well with an experienced and active owner. New dog owners and elderly people will find this dog difficult to handle. A Pitbull and Schnauzer mix typically has a stocky, medium-sized body, pointed flop ears, round eyes that are dark in color, and short, wiry hair. Because of the rare combination, finding a Pitnauzer puppy is challenging. Ask reputable shelters if they have this hybrid for adoption. Licensed breeders could also assist you in your search. French Schnauzer grooming will depend on the type of coat they inherited from the parent breed. If the dog has a short, single layer coat similar to the French Bulldog, then a weekly brushing is enough. The Schnauzer French Bulldog mix has a reputation for being a funny, friendly, affectionate, and good-natured. But they are also prone to anxiety so positive socialization is needed. This hybrid dog is expected to live between 12 to 14 years. Their food and treats should also be low in fat to avoid pancreatis. The Schnauzer Shih Tzu mix is bright and curious, but also stubborn and resistant to learning and obeying commands. A firm leadership and early training is needed. Since this breed is a Schnauzer mixed with Shih Tzu, they are susceptible to allergies, bladder problems, Congenital Megaesophagus, Myotonia Congenita, kidney diseases, liver problems, and Patellar Luxation. Their food and treats should also be low in fat to avoid pancreatitis. Firm leadership and early training are needed. But you can determine some of their characteristics and needs by studying the parent breeds. The Schnauzer Doberman hybrid makes an amazing guard dog and a great companion. While the Doberman is a low maintenance breed, the Schnauzer requires regular grooming. The Schnauzer Doberman mix will likely be somewhere in the middle, with nails having to be clipped once a month. If you are looking at breeders for new, designer dogs please beware of Puppy Mills. If you have a few minutes, please sign our petition to stop puppy mills. Boxer History Boxers are large, muscular, square-headed dogs that are extremely playful and have a lot of energy. The typical Boxer is intelligent, alert, and fearless, yet friendly. He's loyal to his family and loves to play with them, but he's also headstrong, especially if you try to use harsh training methods with him. They are extremely patient and gentle, especially with children. They are high energy dogs and need a lot of exercise. Because of their strength and courage, Boxers have a wide use in the military and the police, as well as search-and-rescue work. When specifically trained for guard work, Boxers are excellent watchdogs and will restrain an intruder in the same manner as a Mastiff. Boxers also excel in obedience, agility, and schutzhund a demanding three-phase competition event that tests the dog's tracking, obedience, and protection abilities. Boxers should not be left outdoors for extended periods of time. Their short nose doesn't cool hot air efficiently in the summer, and their short coat doesn't keep them warm in the winter. The Bullenbeisser had been used as a hunting dog for centuries to hunt bear, wild boar, and deer. They were trained to catch the prey and hold onto it until the hunters arrived. The Boxer we know today was developed in the late 19th century. Lehman of New York. Unfortunately, there weren't many female Boxers in the U. When Word War I broke out, Boxers were enlisted into the military, serving as messenger dogs, carrying packs, and acting as attack and guard dogs. Boxers started becoming popular in the U. Being a family lover from all sides, the Miniature Schnauzer makes for a great pet. Its popularity kept it from extinction when its number shrank in WWI, and this can be attributed to its happy and positive personality. People love its loving, caring and playful nature. Originally the Miniature Schnauzer was bred to catch rats as well as to act as guard dogs on farms. The Miniature Schnauzer was created by crossing the Standard Schnauzer with other smaller breeds such as the Miniature Pinscher, Affenpinscher and maybe others smaller animals like the Poodle and Pomeranian. There are no exact records of how the Miniature Schnauzer was created, but the earliest record of a Miniature Schnauzer is from October .But, soon after WWI the popularity of the Miniature Schnauzer grew, and it has been on a high ever since. The biggest change from the original Miniature Schnauzer to the more modern day version is the color. Miniature Schnauzers used to be red, black and tan, yellow or parti-color. Today; however, the Miniature Schnauzers are usually shades of black and silver. The Miniature Schnauzer was accepted into the American Kennel Club in , which was only two years after the breed was introduced to the United States. These dogs love their families and love to play! A Miniature Schnauzer is a small, sturdy dog that tends to be bright, friendly, outgoing, and charming. They tend to get along with children and other dogs. They are even open and friendly with strangers as long as they are well-socialized. They do have a high prey drive and an urge to chase, so they will need extra socialization and training with other pets in the household. Mini Schnauzers also tend to be alert and watchful dogs that can be prone to barking. Training your dog to stop barking early on can keep this from becoming a nuisance behavior. If the other parent breed is similar, then you could expect a similar temperament from a Miniature Schnauzer Mix. You still want to ask about the other parent breed as they are likely to introduce some quirks of their own. You can meet the mother in person to see what her temperament is like and to see the behavior she is modeling for her puppies. Although the breeder should have started socialization and training, it is up to you to continue to train and socialize a puppy once you get them home. Mini Schnauzers are highly adaptable dogs. They do well in apartments and larger homes as well as most climates. Because they have a high prey drive, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. They also do not like long periods of time alone as they are very family-oriented dogs. The other parent breed could introduce some traits that affect adaptability, so you want to make sure you ask the breeder about them. If they are also highly adaptable, then you should be able to expect the same from a Miniature Schnauzer Mix. Just as a mixed-breed dog can inherit none of the conditions common to their parent breeds, they could also inherit all of them or any combination of them. From the Miniature Schnauzer, potential health concerns to be aware of in a Miniature Schnauzer Mix include urinary stones, pancreatitis, cataracts, liver shunts, and hyperlipidemia. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues on to puppies, so make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Mini Schnauzers are highly trainable dogs that are a good fit for all owners. They pick up on things quickly, so they can also get bored easily. The other parent could make a Miniature Schnauzer Mix more difficult to train, so you do want to ask about them. A Miniature Schnauzer Mix can inherit a coat similar to one of their parents or a coat that is a mix of both. Should they inherit the Mini Schnauzer coat, it will be short, wiry, and low-shedding. Brushing a few times a week, a bath monthly, and grooming every weeks will keep the Schnauzer coat healthy. If you have to visit the groomer every month or so, they can help with some of this, but you will still need to do maintenance in between appointments. Nail trims once or twice a month keep them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks plus careful cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. You also want to practice good dental care for dogs. As a small dog breed, a Miniature Schnauzer Mix will be more prone to developing dental diseases later in life. This makes good dental early in life and consistently throughout even more important. Daily brushing or use of an enzyme toothpaste plus cleanings at the vet as needed are ideal. Although they are lively, active, and energetic dogs, Mini Schnauzers are not high-energy and tend to sit in a more moderate range. Daily walks plus playtime and some extra activity are usually enough to keep them happy and healthy. If the other parent breed is also in a more moderate range, then you should be able to expect something similar in a Mini Schnauzer Mix. If the other parent breed requires more or less activity, then you will need to be prepared for that potential energy range. Fully-grown Mini Schnauzers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother. A Miniature Schnauzer generally lives for years. Although the other parent breed may affect this slightly, you should be able to expect a similar average life span in a Miniature Schnauzer Mix.
