Reason two We have partnership with prestigious veterinarians who cooperate with our respected and reputable breeders who keep all the puppies in excellent health condition. Along with our care team, our veterinarians consistently keep our puppies in top notch shape and condition until a guardian receives their puppy. Jul 24, Share Large and in charge, this behemoth dog has become famous in the last few years as the media surged around Dark Dynasty K9 and their rising star, Hulk. Hulk is a giant American Pitbull Terrier and is famous for being one of the biggest in the world at a staggering pounds in weight. His son, King Kong, may one day overtake his father and be crowned the largest Pitbull in the world. King Kong is still a puppy and weighs only 15 pounds less than Hulk. These dogs were bred for their size, strength, and tenacity in the bullring, where their reputation for violence originates. Dark Dynasty K9 bred Hulk for one reason, and one reason only: size. And they succeeded, as Hulk tops pounds and is potentially one of the biggest Pitbulls in the world. He is more than three times the size of other dogs of his breed. Dark Dynasty K9 breeds protection dogs, but the dogs are well-trained and perfectly behaved. Behavior is a big factor since the breeders must instill perfect training in all dogs sold, as they go to people from all backgrounds, from families with children to the police force. Hulk has actually sired puppies. Two of his offspring, Clifford and King Kong, are running to out-muscle their father for the title of largest Pitbull. Is an XL Bulldog a Pitbull? There can be confusion around breed types and classifications since the breeds can look very similar. Pitbulls have a poor reputation among the general public since they have a history of dog fighting. The breed began in Britain as the Bull-and-Terrier where it was specifically bred for bull baiting. Between their bloody history and false reports of having stronger bites than other breeds, the Pitbull terrier has an undeserved rep for being dangerous. Unfortunately, dogs of any breed can and have attacked humans. Many owners refer to Pitbull terriers as nanny dogs , citing their sweet and gentle temperament, as well as their intelligence and loyalty. Despite this, some cities, such as Miami and Denver, have restrictions in place regarding the breed. Final Thoughts Hulk is known to his owners at Dark Dynasty K9 as loyal, affectionate, and protective of his family, which seems to reflect the breed and the group. Dog breed Pit bull A selection of dog breeds sometimes classified as pit bull types. Origin Dog domestic dog Pit bull is a term used in the United States for a type of dog believed to have descended from bull and terriers , while in other countries such as the United Kingdom the term is used as an abbreviation of the American Pit Bull Terrier breed. In other countries including Britain, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is not considered a pit bull. Proponents of the type and advocates of regulation have engaged in a nature-versus-nurture debate over whether apparent aggressive tendencies in pit bulls may be appropriately attributed to owners' care for the dog or inherent qualities. Some studies have argued that the type is not disproportionately dangerous, offering competing interpretations on dog bite statistics. In addition to being a breed registry, the United Kennel Club also regulated dogfights. Customs and Border Protection as drug detection dogs. The review notes that studies on dog bite-related fatalities which collect information by surveying news reports are subject to potential errors, as some fatal attacks may not have been reported, a study might not find all relevant news reports, and the dog breed might be misidentified. Level I trauma centers, pit bulls were found to inflict a higher prevalence and severity of injuries compared with other breeds. The study found that the proportion of bites caused by German Shepherds decreased by 0. The pit bull proportion of dog bites increased more slowly in Denver, Colorado, where breed-specific legislation had been in place. A popular myth mischaracterized pit bulls as having "locking jaws. In two cases, breed-specific bans have been reversed by city councils. Such jurisdictions include the Canadian province of Ontario , [65] and the American city of Miami. Debates often center on whether apparent aggressive tendencies are the result of poor dog ownership or natural behaviors of the breed. In general, owners are considered liable if they were unreasonably careless in handling or restraining the dog, or if they knew beforehand that the dog had a tendency to cause injury e. These restrictions include refusing to cover dog bites under the insurance policy, increasing insurance rates for homeowners with specific breeds, requiring owners of specific breeds to take special training or have their dogs pass the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen test, [77] requiring owners to restrict their dogs with muzzles, chains, or enclosures, and refusing to write policies for homeowners or renters who have specific breeds of dogs. A spokeswoman for Farmers said that those breeds account for more than a quarter of the agency's dog bite claims. The following table has a sampling of air carrier embargoes on dogs. Updated , 25 Jul The world's biggest pitbull cuddles up to his adorable new litter - valued at a whopping half-a-million dollars. The eight puppies were fathered by gentle giant Hulk, who weighs in at a huge 12 stone. And even though his owners say his bite could 'snap a man's arm like a toothpick', here he shows off his softer side by nuzzling and licking his new brood. And there are even hopes one of the new batch could one day grow big enough to steal their father's crown. If the litter were all trained as protection dogs they could be worth in excess of half-a-million dollars, absolutely. That's just how well thought of Hulk's bloodline is thought of. Hulk, who made international headlines when he was unveiled earlier this year, has also been in training to become a protection dog at Dark Dynasty K9s in New Hampshire, USA. Teach your Boxer their name. Teach your Boxer puppy to sit. Remember what we said about Boxers and their jumping? Recall — Trust us. Preventing resource guarding Resource guarding is where your dog fiercely protects something they have and will do everything they can to keep hold of it. Dogs can resource guard food, a toy, even a person. You can do this by teaching them that hands and touch can be a good thing. As always, back up your soft touches with some treats. Remember that consent is also a thing with dogs! Never force your Boxer to be handled or pick them up against their wishes. Socialization exercises to do this week Training to do this week Husbandry Tasks to do this week — Fireworks — Watch the world go by outside your house — Play dress up. Before you start training your Boxer puppy—or, even better, before you get the puppy—read up on what kind of training is ideal for your breed. Check online, local libraries and local organizations. You can also ask your vet for advice. Remember, the more knowledgeable you are, the better you know how to react under different circumstances. Make sure as well that you have what you need to effectively train your dog. If you're planning to clicker train, get a clicker. If you're planning to crate train, get the right-sized crate. Also be sure to pick up an appropriate collar and leash for general training. A leash should be no more than five to six feet in length. The best leashes for training are leather. Always check your equipment to make sure it is in good order and not liable to snap or break. Training works best when you dedicate a couple of short sessions 10 to 15 minutes twice a day to it. Try to train at times when the dog is not tired, but also not bursting with pent-up energy. Karen Pryor. Publisher: Ringpress Books Consider expending your Boxer's energy before training sessions by allowing him 20 to 30 minutes of high-intensity physical activity. This will enable him to better focus on training. Try to train the dog in a place where there are few distractions, so that your Boxer puppy can focus his attention on you. This means avoiding places with other animals or people. Always begin training in your home or yard and build up to environments with more distractions e. Your commands need to be simple, short, clear and consistent. Don't lecture your dog; they're not human so they don't process language in the same way. Phrases like "I've told you not to do that" or "Please stop chewing on the table" will not work as they are too complicated. John Bradshaw. Publisher: Penguin Experts believe that a given dog registers the first part of the word as the most important, so longer commands such as "Sit Fido if you want a treat" are liable to confuse him. Just say the word "Sit" instead. In general, shouting at any dog is ineffective. This is especially true for Boxers who are hyper breed by nature. Use a firm but pleasant and upbeat voice when instructing your dog; don't yell or lose control. Dogs are very intuitive and will be able to sense your frustration and may react in kind. The tone of voice matters, especially since, again, dogs don't process language in the same way that humans do. So how you say something may mean as much if not more than what you say. Publisher: Penguin Boxers are playful by nature, and a light, breezy tone will not suffice; he will think you are just playing with him if you are not firm enough. Try using hand gestures at the same time as you issue verbal commands. For example, raise your hand at the same time as saying "Sit". Dog behaviorists believe that dogs look for multiple clues as to what we want them to do, which includes the command word, tone of voice, and body language. Admonishing a Boxer puppy too long after the incident is ineffective. If you need to admonish or correct your dog, it needs to be done during or within a few seconds of the act. Dogs will have forgotten the event within seconds of its occurrence, so it's key to address the behavior immediately in order to facilitate the retraining process. Boxers are notoriously stubborn and steadfast, so you may have to correct your puppy numerous times. Always be consistent in your commands and desires of the dog. This helps your dog to understand what is expected. Don't forget to enforce training when you are out and about, so that your dog doesn't just thinking that "Sit" and "Stay" are things he has to do in the yard or house. By enforcing commands in public places it helps your Boxers to understand he must obey under all circumstances. Leave no room for doubt about what is acceptable behavior for your Boxer puppy. If he is not allowed on the furniture, be consistent. Boxers won't understand the concept of "sometimes"; they are either permitted to lie on the couch or they are not. If you live with other people, make sure that everyone in the house is on board with the training program. Using different words for the same action will confuse the dog, disrupt the training already done, and ultimately delay progress. Bookmark Boxers are the sixth most popular breed of dog in the United States. Training should be started as soon as possible with Boxer pups. Among the wide range of dog breeds, Boxers are known to be one of the most trustworthy and intelligent. Their suspicion of strangers, alertness, agility, and strength make them formidable guard dogs. Because of their sturdiness and robust personality, they have been employed occasionally on police and military operations. These strong and intelligent animals have also been used as service dogs, guide dogs for the blind, and therapy dogs. These canines have interesting traits, in spite of their menacing appearance, that make them easy to take care of and a wonderful family favorite. It is essential to make yourself aware of the type of dog that you are going to handle, as well as the right time to start training your puppy. Ideally, Boxer training is not initiated until the Boxer pup turns three weeks old. During this period, he is able to learn how to obey simple commands which will make the upcoming training more effective. Furthermore, Boxer owners must know the various characteristics that this type of canine possesses. The character of the Boxer is of the greatest importance and demands great attention. Boxers are renowned for their great love and faithfulness to their master and households. They are harmless in the family, but distrustful of strangers; bright and friendly at play, but brave and determined when aroused. The Boxer's intelligence and willing tractability, its modesty, and cleanliness make it a highly desirable family dog and cheerful companion. This breed is extremely loyal, and is never mean or treacherous even in its old age. However, you must keep an eye on the precipitating factors for his anguish when it does appear and find out the reason for his unpleasant behavior right away, so that his frustration does not become part of his personality. TIP 2: Socialization is vital. Boxer dogs need interaction during the entire training process. Boxer puppies, in general, love to fool around, be with other human beings, and need some form of recreation. If integrated into the training environment, your dog will grow up more responsible. Boxers do not like being loners. They need to socialize with others just like humans. If not properly socialized or interacted with on a regular basis, Boxer aggression problems such as biting, chasing and barking loudly might arise unexpectedly and be difficult to correct. TIP 3: Providing regular exercise is absolutely essential. Boxer training should also include having your dog perform exercises. It can be a kind of sport or any outdoor activity. The key is to keep him active and agile, which helps him manage his energy levels when indoors. This exercise can be anything from a nice afternoon walk to playing a sport with him such as tossing a ball or frisbee. Boxers enjoy moving around, frolicking, and playing for hours. More movement means more strength and vigor for your dog. TIP 4: You are the alpha dog! During Boxer training you get to assume the role of a leader. It is imperative that your dog always treat you as his master and have no control over you. Make yourself the Alpha dog, especially during leash training. Leaders should be strict and dominant especially when setting rules. You must have the power over him and not allow him to overtake you. Adhering to this strict regimen until your dog fully learns and understands what behavior is acceptable and required will be worthwhile when taking him for a walk or to a dog park for exercise. Want to learn how to save on veterinary care? Click here TIP 5: Use a reward system. If your Boxer has been conforming well to the rules you have taught him during training, praise him often. Positive reinforcement is also an important element in Boxer leash training. You may give him his favorite bite-sized treat for being a good dog. Foods, toys, and telling him "Good job! Just as important as praise is remembering that if he misbehaves, you should just correct him and not punish. Punishing him violently or excessively may trigger Boxer aggression problems in the form of biting and scratching. The whole idea here is to repay him for his excellence and to reprimand in a firm but friendly manner. TIP 6: Whenever possible, spend extra time with your Boxer, beyond the training sessions. Some owners who do Boxer training might not appreciate the significance of the amount of time shared with their dogs. Insure that you allot time for your pup beyond the training to reassure him you love him and that he is your friend and companion and member of the family. Keeping your dog company is one way to bring your relationship with him to the next level, as well as increasing the success of the training. Avoid letting him feel unwanted or neglected. TIP 7: Teach your Boxer basic tricks. In Boxer training, teaching your dog a new skill is also important. As he learns a trick or two, it will not only impress friends and family, but also helps to increase your dog's mental development and obtain his trust easier. Sit, stand, roll, and kneel are a few examples of basic tricks you can teach your canine. These tricks just need patience and perseverance and he will grow into a very clever dog. TIP 8: Visit your veterinarian for help when needed. Certain problems may come up while training your Boxer. In this case, seek help from your vet for experts in your area familiar with this particular breed. Some of the issues such as proper crate training, ways to prevent Boxer anxiety and how to keep him from jumping on other people might require some extra help. The greatest tip for training your Boxer will be to approach him with patience, persistence and lots of love. Your Boxer will become a remarkably well trained dog, and a wonderful member of your family. Ready to start saving money on pet wellness care? Please consult the adoption organization for details on a specific pet. He is willing to please, although he retains a stubborn streak. He is very good with children. Most are moderately friendly toward strangers. Although some can be aggressive with strange dogs, the breed is quite good with other pets. Upkeep The Bulldog appreciates a daily outing but cannot tolerate hot humid weather, which can be deadly. He should not be expected to jog or walk great distances, or to jump from any heights. Most Bulldogs cannot swim. Most Bulldogs wheeze and snore, and some drool. Coat care is minimal, but facial wrinkles and any folds around the tail should be cleaned daily. Special precautions must be taken when anesthetizing a Bulldog. Caesarean deliveries are commonly needed. Hip radiographs show most Bulldogs to be dysplastic but few show overt symptoms. History With the most distinctive mug in dogdom, the Bulldog has an equally distinctive history. Some Bulldogs were also set against bears for bear baiting, purely for entertainment. In , bull baiting was outlawed, and a new phase began for the Bulldog. By all rights, the breed should have become extinct, except that it had gained so many ardent admirers that they set out to rescue the Bulldog by selecting against ferocity while still maintaining—and often accentuating—its distinctive physical characteristics. Its tough steadfast persona led it to be identified as a national symbol of England. Its amiable clownish personality belies its appearance, and the Bulldog is a popular pet. Related Content. What are the healthiest colors, or is there a certain color best to avoid? What colors are accepted as standard, and what French Bulldog coloring is considered rare or unique? Believe it or not, the wrong color combination such as the case of two Merle parents means a combination of two undesirable genes and can be disastrous for your litter. Health testing is and will always be key. White French Bulldog As the name implies, these dogs sport pale white coat coloring. Various genetic factors, such as brindle, leucism, albinism, and merle genes can all lead to this pale coat coloring. However, this Frenchie color can be just as dangerous as it might be attractive. Photo by Miguel Granero on Shutterstock Your White French Bulldog might face future skin problems, eye and ear issues, and many others. Albino French Bulldog coloring is as rare for them as it is for most other animal species humans included. Albinism is caused by a recessive trait, meaning both parents would need to pass it along to offspring, and statistically said offspring might still only have a 1 in 4 chance of being born albino. Cream French Bulldog Another favorite among the French Bulldog colors, cream presents as a sort of slightly duller shade of white. Cream-colored Frenchies owe thanks to a recessive trait inherited from the fawn coat color line. No distinct markings will mar a solid-colored coat, offering a very clean, pure appearance. Lighter cream edges on the ears are especially distinguished. A darker dusk color rims the eyes and no pinker ticking or pigment in the eye rims like white Frenchies. Colors like beige or tan-brown fall under acceptable limits, but can range from a golden tan to more reddish tan, or creamer to lighter tan. Photo by Ivonne Wierink on Shutterstock Coat is brilliant, short and smooth. Skin is soft and loose, especially at the head and shoulders, forming wrinkles. Coats other than short and smooth are a disqualification. Ticking is acceptable but not desired. Keep in mind that many of these colors will make you ineligible for conformation in many clubs and can come with health risks. Merle French Bulldog Photo by Ksenia Raykova on Shutterstock Being a dominant gene in dogs, Merle creates a beautiful and exotic sort of pale fur pattern with several patches. The Merle gene is considered dangerous, and not recommended for any breeder. You could describe the coat coloring as grayish brown with occasional patches of white. With a grey-blue or reddish-pink nose, this is an attractive yet costly breed for many. Many breeders utilize both a C-section and artificial insemination to produce this color. Some devoted buyers have been known to pay a much higher cost for a valuable bloodline. Is it really worth it though? The recent craze for these designer breeds has driven costs up and yet these dogs are not even allowed to participate in conformation in most clubs. Consider paying for a healthy dog, not a particular color. Blue French Bulldog Another very rare gene code for this blue coloring, similar to the Lilac coloring above. You might call this coat a diluted bluish-grey, caused by a dilute gene. The coat coloring can range from blue-grey to almost black. You might hear about several popular poor health-related issues. Health complications in the blue French Bulldog will usually arise as a result of poor breeding practices. Blue Pied French Bulldog A predominantly white coat sporting clearly marked patches of blue adorn parts of the body and head, or both. Puppies will usually have lighter coloring blanketing their cheeks, legs, and chest. Blue Sable French Bulldog Photo by cynoclub on Shutterstock Blue Sables sport fawn coloration on the lower legs and head with a blue mask and blue-tipped hairs. Like the others here with a blue combination, these Frenchies are also quite rare and costly because unjustified demand makes it attractive for breeders to create all kinds of color variations. These spotted markings are usually only slightly different in the normal coat color, but in some cases there can be a difference similar to a white coat with black stripes. This usually includes the neck, around the eyes and ears, and back. Since the gene is recessive, two genes need to be present for this French Bulldog coloring. Isabella French Bulldog Considered by many to be the absolute rarest of French Bulldog colors, boasting a greyish-blue, liver-colored coat. A dilution in the recessive color genes provides this breathtaking Isabella-blue coloration. Noses can range from a lighter brown to pink , while the eyes can range from light brown to blue. Price tags in this range are almost never justified exceptions being special breeding programs for guide dogs, protection work, etc. They can present with a white patch on his chest, and a darker mask. Black means black without a trace of brindle. The fawn hairs have black tipping this time. In fact, the Frenchies we know today were first bred in s Nottingham by lace makers of that period. When these craftsmen began moving to France in the s they brought their toy bulldogs with them. Though disorders might differ, they share that similarity with most breeds today: very few are completely free from genetic conditions. On the other hand, you can increase the chances your Frenchie will live a long and happy life by wisely selecting a reputable breeder. Make sure you ask questions about the health of the parents and ensure they are all well cared for. Swollen glands can produce an abnormal amount of wax, sometimes leading to increased inflammation. Diarrhea Stomach upset and GI issues are pretty common in the bread. Frenchies tend to be overly sensitive to bacteria like e-coli, parasites, or viruses, often leading to diarrhea as the body attempts to rid itself of these irritants. Dogs get sick and usually respond well, but extended diarrhea can lead to dehydration. Runny, tarry or bloody, wet or unusually foul-smelling droppings are signs there is a bigger problem at play that might need attention. Conjunctivitis Their particular genetics make French Bulldogs more prone to developing conjunctivitis pink eye than other breeds. Conjunctivitis is the medical term for inflammation of the conjunctiva, or the membrane that covers the whites of the eyes. Conjunctivitis is caused by an infection, normally in response to bacteria. Skin Problems Both environmental and food allergies commonly plague French Bulldogs. Things like autoimmune skin diseases or parasites can also pose a problem. Bacteria can sometimes collect around those skin folds, causing issues. Unlike humans, allergies will more often manifest in the form of skin rashes on dogs, causing them to want to bite and itch. Secondary infections from open wounds might be more of a problem than the allergy itself, which can almost always be managed through watchful care. Panting and regular breathing can be problematic, leading to shortness of breath or an increased chance of heat-related injuries. Because they can have difficulty breathing , along with the obvious posture-related issues, French Bulldogs should never be left unsupervised around any body of water. Vacationers should also think twice about any air travel. Discussing any possible breathing issues, and what to do if you notice any problems, with your veterinarian is recommended. Smoking around these dogs is frowned upon, risking their already fragile upper respiratory system. Out of all possible colors, only a select few top are accepted by the American Kennel Club and most others. Rare colors in French Bulldog puppies can be exceptionally expensive and there is some debate about how healthy a rare colored Frenchie can be. Frenchies are one of the few breeds that come in a bewildering variety of colors. Most Frenchies are Brindle. This is a dark colored coat mixed with lighter color strands of hair and the most frequently found color in the Frenchie. Fawn is a lighter tan colored coat that can range from very light to a dark reddish tan. These French Bulldogs often have a darker face mask and ears with some brindle streaks thrown in for variety. The third most common color in this breed is white. White French Bulldogs have a very porcelain white coat and most of the time come with a darker mask. Frenchies with tan points - black and tan Frenchie, blue and tan Frenchie, lilac and tan Frenchie, chocolate and tan Frenchie etc. Trindles - French Bulldogs which have brindle in their tan points. All black French Bulldogs - with no trace of brindle is also quite rare. The Blue French Bulldog is one of the rarest colors. For that reason alone people pay very high prices for them. There is usually a waiting list for blue aren't so much blue as gray puppies. You can expect to pay twice or triple as much for a blue French Bulldog than the average price for a standard French Bulldog. Blue Frenchies are quite striking however can be prone to Color Dilution Alopecia or CDA ;a recessive inherited condition that causes patches of hair thinning or loss. This is most commonly seen in dogs with blue or fawn coats. The puppies are born normal looking, but the hair thinning and loss symptoms can start at 6 months up to several years later. It is most often associated with Blue Dobermans. CDA is not curable but it's fairly easy to manage. It is important to mention that our blue Frenchie never suffered from any symptoms to his coat. Not all blue Frenchies will be prone to the coat problems however, your vet can help you keep your blue French Bulldog healthy and happy if any issue arises. Blue Frenchies get cold easily - Some owners have stated the blue Frenchie gets cold easily, we are unsure if this is just a myth or based on actual research. Either way French Bulldogs can't regulate their body temperature well. Having any Frenchie in cold climate is not ideal due to their short coat. If you live in a cold climate there are ways you can keep your Frenchie warm. Always dress your French Bulldog with our specially tailored for Frenchies hoodies , Frenchie pajamas etc. The blue Frenchie skin condition can also impact your grooming regime. We have not experienced any of the above with our blue Frenchie. We also know plenty of the standard color Frenchies who suffer from skin conditions and allergies. We are not trying to promote or discourage buying the standard or rare colors we simply don't discriminate over colors. We love all our French Bulldogs friends that come in all colors of the rainbow. What are the different coat colors of a Blue Frenchie puppy? All Blue Frenchie - meaning all blue without any other colors to the coat. Blue Pied Frenchie - Frenchies with blue coats and patches of white or cream on their bellies, chest, legs etc. Blue fawn Frenchie- Frenchie coat that looks like a mix of blue and fawn. Blue brindle Frenchie - Blue coated French Bulldog puppy with brindle streaks. Blue merle Frenchie - a combination of different patches and streaks that are irregular and unusual. Blue and Tan Frenchie - Blue coated French Bulldog puppy with tan points usually around paws and face. A sable Frenchie usually looks like a fawn Frenchie with darker black hairs covering throughout the coat. There are rare Frenchies with cream or tan sable coats as well. Isabella French bulldogs Isabella color in French bulldogs come from dilution of the recessive gene. A Frenchie puppy can be born with a blue coat and mature to a more of a pale greyish brown or golden coat. For a puppy to acquire this rare coat color he or she needs to have the genotype dd. DNA of an Isabella Frenchie puppy will be ddbb which means that he or she will have two copies of each chocolate and blue gene. The Isabella Frenchie is the only lilac that is testable for the chocolate gene therefore some French Bulldog breeders consider the Isabella to be the true lilac. This rare French bulldog color is usually the most expensive due to their stunning looks and variety of rare coats. Isabella Frenchies usually look different with lighter shades of noses and eyes. Why are they so much more expensive than other popular breeds? Most Frenchies can't have live babies the normal way. They have narrow hips that aren't designed for natural birth. The high price tag reflects the expense of artificial insemination and c-sections to deliver the puppies. They also require constant attention and care when they are born. They require many health and genetic exams. These dogs have always been expensive. Reports have it one of the wealthy individuals named Robert Williams Daniel who survived the Titanic had his Frenchie along with him. While Robert survived when the ship sank on April 15th, sadly his French Bulldog did not make it. Many breeders would agree good breeding practices can greatly reduce the risks of genetic disorders that can lead to hearing loss, hip problems, and respiratory illness in French Bulldogs. Buying a well bred French Bulldog can help avoid a lifetime of vet bills and care. You are much more likely to get a happy, healthy dog who can enjoy a full, rich life. Merle is a pattern in a dog's coat. Merle French Bulldogs can have tiger stripes, spots, or patches. These come in different colors and patterns and are determined by heredity and genetics. Health issues can occur when two merle dogs are bred, therefore breeders usually mate a merle parent with a solid coat parent. While Merle French Bulldogs can be quite exotic and strikingly beautiful, this kind of breeding can come with a number of serious problems from skeletal defects to blindness to deafness to increased fetal mortality. This is why it is extremely important to choose a reputable Frenchie breeder. The blue merle is the rarest of colors that exist in the Frenchie breed. They are best described as gray with spots or how we like to call them cookies N' cream. They are so different from the standard common French Bulldog however, being that rare may not be a great thing especially when one considers all the health problems blue and merle Frenchies can have. It is important to mention that some merle French Bulldogs can live a healthy uneventful life. It is critical and essential to find a reputable breeder with good breeding practices especially when considering a rare color Frenchie. Also expect a blue merle to come with a hefty price tag. One of the most in-demand of rare colors is the Lilac French Bulldog. The lilac Frenchies are only produced occasionally and usually by breeders limited to the West Coast of the United States. They have a purple lilac coat color that can be quite attractive. Price is always higher than the already expensive standard French Bulldog puppy. Excellent Lilac Frenchies have a distinct color and vibrant eyes. This happens when they receive a combination of chocolate and blue DNA from both parents. As you can imagine, this rarely occurs. The Lilac coat can range from cool blue to a very classy looking silver and purple hue. Some have white markings on their chest and face. Another rare trait are their light colored eyes. This remains from the time they are puppies throughout life unlike the standard French Bulldog. The rarest colors of French Bulldogs are blue, lilac, blue and tan, and chocolate and tan. Add that Merle coats. A blue merle is perhaps the rarest of them all. In a world where a standard French Bulldog costs several thousand dollars, these rare colors can sell for tens of thousands. Since rare color Frenchies are prone to health and genetic problems , it is extremely important to find a reputable breeder who uses responsible breeding techniques with the right precautions otherwise you may be sinking your life savings into a dog that will be at the vet all the time, will be sick and may die prematurely. Rare Frenchies are just that - rare. Active breeders may only see one every few years if at all. Most rare colors are produced by breeders who specialize in producing them at a more frequent rate. Breeding rare color French Bulldogs is serious business. Most rare color breeders are running family operations dedicated to become experts in producing the highest quality rare French Bulldogs possible. Breeders expect to spend a significant amount of time answering your questions and sending you information. Be sure to ask them questions about the health of the puppy, their bloodline, and what to expect. The Frenchie is sweet and charming. It's no wonder so many people love their little Frenchie. These dogs are compact, muscular, lovable, and oh so smart. They are just right for apartment life and smaller homes with diminutive yards. Rare colors in French Bulldogs are perhaps the most exciting development in this already delightful breed. Rare colors in this breed can come with health issues so it is imperative to seek a reputable breeder who specializes in rare colors which will greatly reduce the risks of genetic disorders. They surprised me. She is now a mom to a Lilac , Brindle, and a pure Black babies. So exciting. I have a six month old male frenchie. When will he be sexually mature to breed? He has a blue tan coat I believe. Do I get a free puppy after? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Jera Benedict June 02, I have a black and tan make frenchie. I have several female frenchie owners asking what is my stud fee. He is 1 year old. He has the markings if a rottweiler. They are full of personality and make great companion animals. Here are a few things to know about these fun-loving dogs: Brown French Bulldogs are one of the most popular dog breeds. They are known for their loving and loyal personalities. These dogs make great companions and love to play. They are also very intelligent and can be trained to do tricks. Brown French Bulldogs are medium-sized dogs weighing between 16 and 28 pounds. They have short, smooth coats that come in a variety of colors, including brown, fawn, brindle, white, and black. These dogs have long tails that curl over their backs. Brown French Bulldogs have large ears that flop down. Brown French Bulldogs are active dogs that need plenty of exercise. They enjoy walks, runs, and playing fetch. They have big ears, and a short snout that is absolutely irresistible. These pups are also known for being very playful and loving, which makes them great family pets. These dogs are not often seen in the United States, but they are becoming more popular in other parts of the world. France is the home of the French bulldog, and these dogs were originally bred to be companion animals for the French nobility. The dark brown coloration of these dogs is thought to be caused by a mutation in the genes that control coat color. This mutation is thought to have occurred in the late s or early s. Dark brown French bulldogs are very rare, and they are considered to be a valuable commodity by many dog breeders. These dogs have a loyal and loving nature, and they make wonderful pets for families with children. They are known for their small size, bat-like ears, and wrinkled faces. These dogs are loyal companions and make great family pets. They do require some special care, however, due to their short noses. Light brown French Bulldogs are not as common as their brown-colored cousins. Prices for these dogs can also be higher since they are in demand. These dogs are just as loving and playful as any other French Bulldog. They make great companions and will quickly become a member of your family. With their chocolate brown coat and big, soulful eyes, they are sure to turn heads wherever they go. Brown French Bulldogs are known for being gentle, loving and affectionate dogs. They love spending time with their families and are always up for a cuddle or a game of fetch. They are also intelligent dogs and can be trained to do tricks or perform tasks. Ordinarily, French Bulldogs have short, sleek hair. They are known for their unique two-tone coat, which can be brown and white, black and white, or any other combination of colors. Pied French Bulldogs are friendly, playful, and make great companion animals. Despite their name, the pied French Bulldog is not actually from France. They were originally bred in England in the 19th century as a cross between the English Bulldog and the French Terrier. The pied coloration is caused by a genetic mutation that results in patches of color on an otherwise solid-colored coat. Pied French Bulldogs are just as healthy as any other color variety of French Bulldog. They do not require any special care or attention and have the same lifespan as their non-pied counterparts about years. This can vary depending on factors such as the breeder, where you live, and whether the dog is purebred. Some breeders may charge more for a brown Frenchie due to their rarity, but this is not always the case. Ultimately, it is important to do your research before purchasing a French Bulldog to ensure that you are getting a healthy dog from a reputable source. Brown and Tan French Bulldog Brown and tan French Bulldogs are one of the most popular color combinations for this breed. Though they may look similar to their brindle cousins, brown and tan Frenchies have a few key differences. For one, their coat is typically a bit lighter in color, with more pronounced tan markings. They may also have a slightly different build, as brown and tan Frenchies tend to be on the smaller side. But no matter their size or coloring, all brown and tan French Bulldogs share the same friendly, fun-loving personality that has made them so popular around the world. They are a relatively new color variation of the breed, and as such, they are not yet recognized by the American Kennel Club AKC. However, they are rapidly gaining popularity in the United States and abroad. They are known for their friendly dispositions and loving nature. Black French Bulldogs make great companion dogs and do well in families with children. They are not as common as the other colors of French Bulldogs, but they are just as loving and friendly. These dogs make great pets for families with children, as they are patient and good natured. However, they do need some daily activity to stay healthy and happy. Black French Bulldogs are the more common of the two, but brown ones are just as adorable. Brown French Bulldogs are unique in that they can come in a variety of shades, from light tan to almost black. They also have a distinct merle pattern that sets them apart from other Frenchies. Despite their different appearances, brown and black Frenchies are equally friendly and loving dogs. They make great companions for people of all ages and make wonderful family pets. As with all French Bulldogs, they are intelligent, playful and affectionate companions. They make great family pets and do well with children. Brown and blue French Bulldogs can have either a light blue or dark blue coat. Some may also have a brindle coat, which is a mix of brown and black hairs. Like all French Bulldogs, the brown and blue variety requires minimal grooming. They are an overall healthy breed, but like all dogs, they are susceptible to certain health conditions. Frenchies are known for their friendly dispositions and loyal nature, making them great family pets. These two colors are often seen together in French Bulldogs, as they compliment each other well. Brown French Bulldogs have a wide range of coat colors, from light brown to almost black. Beige French Bulldogs typically have a cream or white base color with brown patches. Both of these colors are relatively common in the breed, and many people choose them for their dog because they are so eye-catching. Brown French Bulldog with Blue Eyes Almost all Frenchies are born with blue eyes but the color changes when they become adults. Adult French Bulldogs with this eye color are prone to health issues like deafness, blindness and cataracts. Most Frenchies with blue eyes are albinos, merles, or those born with genetic anomalies. This hybrid dog has the best of both worlds, the playful and friendly personality of a French Bulldog with the strength and energy of a Pitbull. This mix is an excellent family pet that is great with children and other pets. They are intelligent and easily trained, making them a perfect choice for first time dog owners. With proper care and exercise, the brown French Bulldog Pitbull mix will be a loyal and loving companion for years to come. This mixed breed has many characteristics of both parent breeds, including their small size, wrinkled forehead, and short snout. The brown French Bulldog-Pug mix typically weighs between 15 and 25 pounds and stands at about 12 to 16 inches tall at the shoulder. This hybrid dog breed can come in a variety of colors, including brown, fawn, brindle, black, and white. The brown French Bulldog-Pug mix is a friendly and affectionate dog that makes a great companion for families with children. They are also relatively easy to train and make good watchdogs. This pup is a great companion for someone who wants an active, friendly, and affectionate dog. The French Bulldog Chihuahua mix has all the best qualities of both breeds. They are intelligent and eager to please, making them easy to train. They are also playful and full of energy, yet they can be calm and relaxed when they need to be. This pup is the perfect size for city living or for someone who likes to travel with their furry friend. As the name suggests, this hybrid combines the best of two worlds — the playful and affectionate French bulldog with the intelligent and loyal poodle. This crossbreed inherits many of the best qualities from each parent breed, making them an ideal family pet. They are typically good-natured, loving, and patient with children. They are also relatively low-maintenance in terms of grooming, as they only need to be brushed a few times a week. They have a short, dense coat that can be either straight or wavy, and comes in a variety of colors including brown, black, white, and cream. But did you know that there are actually several different types of French Bulldogs? One of them is the Brown French Bulldog. This coat color is relatively rare in the Frenchie world. Whether you want to go with a traditional name like Brownie or something more unique like Cocoa, there are tons of great options out there. Here are just a few of our favorites: Brownie: This is a classic name for a brown French Bulldog. Teddy: Teddy is another great option for those who want something both traditional and cute. Yes, a brown French Bulldog can change color. This is because they are born with a gene that allows them to change color. The most common colors for a brown French Bulldog to change into are black, brindle, or fawn. Are brown French Bulldogs rare? Brown French Bulldogs are not rare. In fact, they are the most common color of French Bulldog. This is because the gene for brown is dominant over the gene for black. This means that if a brown and a black French Bulldog are bred together, the puppies will all be brown. How much is a brown French Bulldog? The price of a dog depends on many factors such as the breeder, the coat color, and whether or not the dog is AKC registered. Brown is not a very common coat color for French Bulldogs, so they may be more expensive than other colors. French Bulldogs are one of the most popular breeds in the United States, so their popularity also contributes to their high price tag. What is the rarest color for a French bulldog? There are many different colors of French Bulldogs, but the rarest color is blue merle. Blue merle French bulldogs are a unique and beautiful variety of the popular breed. Though they are not as common as the brown and brindle Frenchies, they are gaining in popularity due to their striking blue and silver coat. Email address: Leave this field empty if you're human: Popular Posts. Black Frenchies Pure black Frenchies are quite easy to recognize as they possess no traces of other colors. What we mean by that is that they have a solid black coat color with no brindle pattern more about that later! Pure black French Bulldogs are actually not as common as one would think, which makes them rather special. Red Frenchies Like the name suggests, red French Bulldogs have a light brown coat with a reddish shade. These puppies usually have black markings around their muzzle and eyes called a mask, and they also tend to have a white patch on their chest. Red fawn Frenchies Red fawn French Bulldogs are essentially the same as red Frenchies with a reddish shade of fawn color, but their coat has a sort of ashy shine. These puppies also tend to have a black mask and dark markings around their eyes and ears. Subscribe to our weekly blog newsletter: Subscribe to our blog newsletter! First name Beige Frenchies The color beige in Frenchies is also very similar to red, but it is a lighter shade of fawn. Beige French Bulldogs usually have a black mask but can also be maskless. Cream Frenchies Cream Frenchies have a unique eggshell color. Their coat is distinctively different from even the lightest fawn colors, being almost white with a bit of yellow in it. Cream Frenchies have no markings on any part of their bodies, so it is considered a solid color. Their nose, lips and paw pads may be pink or a somewhat darker almost black color, and in rare cases they may have forever blue eyes. Blue Frenchies Blue French Bulldogs are essentially grey whose color may vary from light grey to almost black. What makes them stand out is the bluish shine in their coat that is most visible when the light touches them. They often have a white chest which gives them an even more appealing look. These beauties definitely attract a lot of attention: blue has arguably become one of the most wanted Frenchie colors in the world. Blue fawn Frenchies Blue fawn in French Bulldogs is a combination of a light fawn color and blue. More specifically, these puppies have blue parts around their muzzle and eyes instead of black, and their light coat has a beautiful bluish shine. Similarly to blue, this rare French bulldog color has become one of the most popular among our adopters in recent years. Lilac Frenchies Lilac French Bulldogs are often mistaken for blue Frenchies, but they are much more unique and harder to come by. Lilac Frenchies have a very light, almost ashy or silver color which gets lighter and lighter as they age. To produce this rare and beautiful color, the parents have to be blue and chocolate or at least a chocolate carrier. Lilac French Bulldogs usually have light-colored eyes such as yellow, light brown and blue which are glowing red. Lilac fawn Frenchies Lilac fawn Frenchies look very similar to blue fawn Frenchies, but they are much rarer! Lilac fawn French Bulldogs have a light fawn coat color with an ashy or silver shine rather than blue, and their mask is also of a lighter, ashier grey. They have light eyes that are glowing red, and similarly to lilac Frenchies, both of the parents need to carry blue or chocolate to produce this unique color. Lilac sable Frenchies Lilac sable French Bulldogs are almost the same as lilac fawn Frenchies, but these puppies have black fur growing evenly all over their bodies, especially on their back. This gives their coat a bit of a darker shade rather than being ashy. Platinum Frenchies The platinum color in Frenchies is optically similar to albino but retains some luster in their coat as opposed to the pure white seen in albino. It is also similar to a light cream color but it is off-white or sort of silver-looking. What makes them special and highly valuable for breeding purposes is that they carry the most colors in French bulldogs: whichever color a platinum Frenchie is mixed with, the puppies will be of that color. They are certainly very rare and unique dogs. Similarly to lilac Frenchies, they are the combination of blue and chocolate but they have a much more unique greyish liver coat color. Isabella Frenchies are extremely hard to come by, which makes them incredibly valuable for breeding purposes. White French Bulldog Even though white is considered a standard French Bulldog color, an all-white Frenchie is still very rare. They are not to be confused with cream Frenchies who have a more yellowish shade of white. Sometimes pied Frenchies more about that below! Chocolate Frenchies You have probably guessed already that chocolate French Bulldogs have a chocolate brown base coat, which may vary from a light to a really dark brown. The chocolate gene is considered rare in the Frenchie world so these puppies are quite unique. Check out our.

Everyone loves a true Christmas surprise. And that is exactly what my husband and I had planned this year. A surprise puppy is what we had up our sleeves! We lost our Golden, Cooper, almost 2 years prior at age .He was the best dog! We had him before our boys were born, so they never knew a life without Cooper around. To say it was a hard thing to lose him is an understatement, as anyone who has had a pet knows. We spent the past couple years talking about it, but every time our boys would ask we would put them off and tell them not just yet. That was all part of our little plan to throw them off! But, we decided we were ready and we decided our surprise puppy would be another Golden Retriever. Research, research and more research…and we finally found a litter and went behind our boys backs and picked out our pup. We were going to pick her up on Christmas eve and surprise them Christmas morning. You know, the thing I have always dreamed about happening. We were crushed and heartbroken, but we also knew that we had to keep looking and try again. The good news is that we found another litter, but they were ready to go right then. When they woke up that morning, Elfie our elf had left them a note…. They got ready, and we put the gifts under the tree… Each boy had a box with a dog bowl and one had a collar and one had a toy. The confusion was hysterical. I got a bowl and a Christmas bracelet? We loaded up in the car on a road trip to bring home our Bailey. She was cute, perfect and healthy and we were instantly in love. And I think my boys loved being able to be there to pick her out and bring her home. Here are some pictures since she has been home with us! Have you ever surprised your kiddos with a puppy? I would love to hear how!! Until next time…. If they could spend every second of the day with their pup, they would. Small bulldogs were popular pets with the local laceworkers, keeping them company and ridding their workrooms of rats. After the industrial revolution, lacemaking became mechanized and many of the laceworkers lost their jobs. Some of them moved to France, where their skills were in demand, and of course they took their beloved dogs with them. The dogs were equally popular with French shopkeepers and eventually took on the name of their new country. In the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries, the dogs became popular with members of the Paris bohemian class: ladies of the night, artists, writers such as the novelist Colette, and wealthy Americans doing the Grand Tour. Today, the breed ranks 21st among the breeds registered by the American Kennel Club, up from 71 st in , a testament to his qualities as a companion. Thank you Chris for raising such wonderful puppies! Kitt Family Libby Winter joined our family this Friday and our family is in love. ET Two North Carolina men accused of taking five French bulldog puppies in a brazen gunpoint robbery from a family of breeders in Lancaster County will face charges in Pennsylvania, federal authorities announced Wednesday. Prosecutors say Christopher Lamont Stimpson Jr. According to court filings in their case, Stimpson first contacted the breeders in mid-October, claiming to be a puppy broker coming from North Carolina and agreed to meet the family in their West Cocalico Township home to complete the transaction. The breeder and his family presented the pups in a white laundry basket in their living room when Stimpson and Artis arrived at their house Oct. Advertisement The breeder and his wife grabbed Stimpson around the waist in an attempt to stop him, spilling the cash. It was then, prosecutors say, that he pulled a gun and threatened to shoot them if they tried to impede his escape. FBI agents and local police later traced it back to a rental car agency in Greensboro. Later, as the breeder shared his story with potential customers, one of them mentioned seeing a photo of five French bulldogs in a white laundry basket in an Instagram post from a poster in North Carolina offering the puppies for sale. All five puppies were recovered and returned to the breeder. Stimpson and Artis were released on house arrest during videoconference hearings by a federal court in Pennsylvania this week. They face up to 30 years in prison on charges of robbery and trafficking interstate in stolen goods. Huff, said Wednesday. Hoey, did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Advertisement Advertisement About Us. Life Span Did You Know? While the name of this breed is the French Bulldog, their origins cannot be credited to only France. One of the facts about French Bulldogs is that the idea and reason for the creation of the breed originated in England. This adorable dog breed, which has always been meant to be a companion, started as a miniature version of the English Bulldog. This mini-version accompanied lace workers across the English Channel and into France during the Industrial Revolution. Once the dog breed became prominent in France, the subsequent successful crossbreeding of the English Bulldog, Pug, and Terrier led to the creation of the modern-day Frenchie. The French Bulldog we know today originally came to the United States with groups of wealthy Americans who came across them and fell in love while touring Europe in the late s. The French Bulldog was recognized by the American Kennel Club in and is a member of the non-sporting group. The French Bulldog is an easygoing, affectionate, and playful dog that loves their family and gets along well with children. They also love to make new friends, which means they get along well with other dogs, animals, and people. Intelligent and affectionate, this small dog breed certainly wins over hearts and earns its status as a popular companion dog. Frenchies are not known to bark much, unless you train them into it, but they are naturally alert and make excellent watchdogs. As long as they are well-socialized and trained, they tend to have an open and friendly nature. The Frenchie is a highly adaptable dog that pretty much adapts to any living situation that includes plenty of love and attention. Being a short-snouted, snub-nosed dog breed, they do not tolerate heat very well and are also sensitive to cold. This tends to make them one of the dog breeds that hate winter and you will want to make sure to bundle them up to stay warm while out on cold winter walks. Because Frenchies bond closely with their families and thrive on attention from them, they do not tolerate long periods of time alone. They can also be prone to developing separation anxiety if they are poorly socialized or you do not work with them on this when they are young. Potential health concerns to be aware of in French Bulldogs can include cataracts, cherry eye, and entropion. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances. Heart and joint certifications are recommended for this breed. Playful and happy, the French Bulldog is a great fit for a novice dog owner. They are sweet-tempered, eager to please, and eager to train. Occasionally, Frenchies can be stubborn and they do tend to have big personalities. Although this can sometimes be a challenge for first-time dog owners, it can usually be overcome with consistent and patient training. Puppy training classes are always an option and offer plenty of benefits aside from training. Standard coat colors for Frenchies are Brindle, Cream, Fawn, and combinations of these. They have a short coat that will shed a little year-round. Nail trims once or twice a month keep nails from growing too long and causing issues. Weekly ear checks, along with careful cleanings as needed, can help prevent ear infections. As a small dog breed, the Frenchie is more prone to developing gum disease. Daily dental care plus cleanings at the vet as needed can help prevent this and other painful dental diseases later in life. You will also need to take care of the wrinkles. Frenchies have hereditary face wrinkles and it is important to keep them clean and dry to prevent skin irritation or possible infection. The French Bulldog is an easygoing companion breed. They can be one of the laziest dog breeds that are couch potatoes. Frenchies will often be energetic when they play and will try to match their activity to yours. So, if you live a more active lifestyle, you need to be careful that your French Bulldog is not overexerting themselves trying to keep up with you. As a Brachycephalic or snub-nosed dog, they cannot cool themselves as easily and are extra sensitive to heat. They can also get winded easily, so be aware of this when playing with your dog or puppy and watch for signs of overexertion. There are safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs and you can work with your vet on specifics for your Frenchie if needed. French Bulldogs usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Frenchies generally live for years on average. With this dog breed being so popular, there are plenty of celebrities who have chosen the French Bulldog as their companion, which also means there are plenty of famous Frenchies out there. Also, French Bulldogs cannot swim, at least without a life vest. They can be taught to swim while wearing one, but they should never be left unattended around bodies of water or swimming pools and require constant supervision while in the water. german shepherd puppies near me - All of our breeding dogs are also our family pets. Our dogs are like people, having different personalities and talents. Some love to go to town and have people pet them in the stores. Some love to play ball, run with the kids; others run with the horses when we go for a ride. They run with the horses in the riverbed chasing rabbits and coyotes for extra fun. Some love the show ring and obedience trials. Their personalities and talents are glowing when they strut their stuff. Still, others enjoy just laying back and being pillows for the kids while watching TV. Our dogs bring great joy to our lives, and we hope to share that with you. Our puppies' goal is to be placed as companions, loved and loyal members of a family. Some of these families have taken some of our exceptional dogs and become part of "Search and Rescue " groups, children's 4-H projects, seeing eyes dogs, herding dogs, bomb and drug detection dogs working with police officers and living with the family, pet store models and travel companions. We listen carefully to what your interests and needs are, and can recommend specific pups or litters to choose from, depending on where your interests lie. Our breeding program is diverse, producing excellence in conformation, pigmentation, drive and stability. The breed is well proportioned and strong with a sturdy, muscular, slightly elongated body that has a light but solid bone structure. The head should be in proportion to its body and have a little bit of a rounded forehead. The nose is most often black, but blue or liver colors still do sometimes occur. The teeth should meet in a scissors bite. Its eyes are dark and almond-shaped but never protruding. The ears are wide at its base, pointed, upright, and turned forward. However, it is natural for German Shepherd puppies under about six months to have ears that droop slightly. It also has a bushy tail that reaches below the hocks and hangs down when resting. There are three varieties of the German Shepherd: double coat, plush coat, and longhaired coat. It has a double coat made-up of a thick undercoat and dense, slightly wavy or straight outer coat. Most German Shepherd dogs have tan and black or red and black hair, medium in length and tend to shed all year round. There are some other, more rare color variations such as solid black, solid white, liver and blue. The white coat version is recognized as a separate breed by some breed clubs and is called the American White Shepherd. A piebald color has also occurred and is now being called a Panda Shepherd. Discover more about our German Shepherd puppies for sale below! Disposition The German Shepherd is an intelligent and versatile breed. The breed requires an active lifestyle and makes for an ideal companion, protector, and guard dog. Very devoted to its family and home and usually maintains a suspicious demeanor around strangers. German Shepherds can be dominating and assertive towards other dogs, though normally friendly with other pets in the home. Therefore, it is important to begin training your dog beginning as a puppy in order to avoid negative behaviors later. Exercise This breed is very active and athletic. It requires a lot of physical and mental exercise. Without the proper amount of exercise, it can become frustrated and develop negative behaviors. Participating in canine activities such as agility, herding, tracking, and diving is great exercise and fun for the dog. Training Puppy socialization and training are critical, as well as continuing obedience training to ensure the puppy will become a well-mannered adult. The German Shepherd is a highly intelligent companion and extraordinary worker. Use consistent and positive reward-based training for best results. Grooming The German Shepherd sheds regularly and is a heavy seasonal shedder. As a result, it is best to brush them daily. You only need to bathe them when necessary, however, as over bathing can cause skin irritation from removal of oil on their skin. Check their ears and trim their claws regularly. Origin The German Shepherd Dog originated in Karlsruhe, Germany from longhaired, shorthaired, and wire-haired local herding and farm dogs in the mids. Its now famous qualities of intelligence, agility, speed, stealth, and courage were developed not in a police or military academy but in the sheep pastures of s Germany. The breed gained popularity in the United States during the early s due to the canine movie stars Rin-Tin-Tin and Strongheart. Unfortunately, because it is among the German breeds including the Dachshund it suffered a decline in popularity due to anti-German sentiment during and after both world wars. However, due to the rise of modern livestock management and the decline of herding as a dog occupation, von Stephanitz promoted his breed as an ideal K-9 worker and today is therefore the preferred breed for police and military units all over the world. german shepherd puppies near me - Chapter One - the Beginning. A warm welcome from Douglas and Elaine McGuffie. We are a small kennel first established 16 years ago whilst living in the beautiful setting of Lower Deeside in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Our dogs are first and foremost family pets with the fun we have showing them being a bonus. In early , with our 4 sons grown up and almost all having left home, we felt that the moment was right and time allowed for us to add a dog to the family. We agreed to take Mac and thus began the "hobby" that would take over our lives. From an early stage we took Mac to obedience classes run by Golden owner and breeder Rosemary Pirie Roddenberry and it was during this time that we looked to expand the interest and fun we could have with him by investigating the show scene. It was pointed out that perhaps we should look to more established show lines, if we were to devote time to this. The decision was made to look for another dog, one that we could show and a companion for Mac. Arran - Drumkilty Oisin joined us in October .Having the two dogs and spending almost every weekend showing Arran only served to intensify the interest and by the summer of we were looking to expand the show team this time bringing in a puppy bitch that we hoped would be the foundation of our own kennel. We were introduced the Sue Francis Velvenya who had one of her bitches Ramchaine Enchanting in whelp and we were delighted to have Ailsa - Velvenya Vivid join us in Milltimber. We expected that would complete our team although we would hope to add to it, if the right opportunity allowed. Sooner than we thought, because in we were joined by Colbar Chantilly Lace "Tilly" and we are extremely grateful to the late Barbara Keighley for allowing us to have her. Our journey took a step futher in October when Arran's son Drumkilty Urquhart "Archie" joined us. Our thanks to all the new friends we have got to know over our time showing and for the encouragement and guidance they have offered. We are forever grateful to the late Jenny Wilson Jenala for her expert grooming and coaching with our scissor skills! Chapter Two - the journey continues. Since early we planned to make a move South to find a property with more land and within easier travelling distance of most Shows. This house move co-incided with our first litter of puppies from Ailsa and made for a very busy time. All our dogs live indoors with us we do not have kennels so our puppies are well socialised with us and our extended doggy family. We start puppies on whistle recall at 4 weeks old, which they tend to do really well at, and also start toilet training the puppies to grass outside. Naturally the puppies still live indoors, but they are given regular access to our garden weather permitting - at no point do we move them to live outside. PUPPY VISITS After prospective owners have completed a questionnaire, we begin to match available puppies with prospective homes; we find that matching puppies to owners increases the likelihood of a successful placement and therefore a forever home. However this means that if you are invited to a puppy visit you will not have the choice of the whole litter, instead you will be matched to a specific puppy that has been identified as suitable from your questionnaire answers. From our side, if when meeting you we feel you are not suitable owners for one of our puppies, then a puppy will not be sold to you. Amongst other things, we look at the puppies' energy level, confidence, drive, attitude, biddability and overall temperament to make an informed decision; this is why filling in our puppy questionnaire accurately is so important. After a puppy visit there is a 48 hour cooling off period for both parties to consider if the puppy is a suitable match. If we both decide the answer is yes, then a non-refundable deposit is required which is payable by bank transfer. This deposit will only be refunded in the case of something going wrong on our end, e. The remaining balance for the puppy must then be paid by bank transfer at least 48 hours before collection. The receipt of sale is included within the puppy contract which both parties will sign, along with both parties signing the Kennel Club's endorsement paperwork. If either party decides not to go ahead, a deposit will not be requested. Please make sure you arrive on time for your puppy visit as we plan visits around our dogs' feeding and exercise; the visit lasts for 1 hour. However please be aware that sometimes at puppy visits the puppies may have just fallen asleep, so they might not be as excited as you are to come and visit them. This does not mean we've selected the wrong puppy for you, it just means the puppies might be asleep in that hour! Before the visit, you will have received links to videos of the puppies where you can see their day-to-day lives, behaviour and personalities.
