Santa Margarita, CA .Hi Julia, Everyday I say that I am going to sit down and write to update you, and everyday just keeps getting away from me. I honestly have no idea how you kept up with soooooo many pups at once. We have had him just over two weeks and I have not gotten a stitch of work done. Thank goodness I have my own business and work for myself or I would have had to fire me! I just figured to heck with it, he is only going to be little once and I want to take advantage of this time and enjoy it and use it to train him as much as possible. I know it will pay off in the end. Before I start bragging and carrying on about him, I would just like to preface it with.He has settled in so well from the very beginning. He was soooo good in the kennel. We never had any whining or anything. Housebreaking is going very well. His record for no accidents in the house so far is two whole days and he goes to the door when he has to go now. He absolutely seems to understand what "Potty" means and what he is suppose to do. I took him to the vet right away after he came home and the vet said he was absolutely perfect I already knew that! He had a fecal exam done , it was of course negative. A week later at nine weeks he had his vaccines and the Dr. I found the trainer that I had used for my other dogs. I had started with him almost 15 years ago he had since moved to LA. Anyway, he still comes out this way for a few clients so he agreed to work with us again. I am so happy about that because I already know and use his basic methods, I just need some brushing up and re-training. He started last week and he has progressed so well already.I have progressed too, I had forgotten more than I like to admit. The only thing that I am questioning is if I am feeding him too much??? He was ten weeks yesterday and weighs exactly 16 pounds. He is still just strictly on the Natures Domain. I didn't want to change too much of anything at the beginning. I am feeding him one cup of food, three times a day at six hour intervals. He looks great to me, but of course acts like he could eat double what I am feeding him. I am trying really hard not to look into those big brown eyes and give in and give him more! The doctor had a formula but thought that you would be more of an expert in that area than he would since you raise them so he wants me to check with you just to be sure. I would appreciate your thoughts on this and how I will know when and how much to increase. I am sending you some pictures of him I took at nine weeks. I hope they come thru to you OK. I even set up a little Thanksgiving photo shoot for him.My kids think I am over the top, but I don't care, he is too cute to not be over the top! She makes very little noise at all. Inside, there might be the occasional audible sigh when she is trying to communicate something. She is so well-behaved at home. She does not go to the bathroom in the house and thinks that pee pee pads are for resting on. She loves going for rides in the car and also enjoys meal time- she is food motivated! She prefers being with the company of her humans. A good licky mat and calming treats keep her occupied when left alone at home and when she is bored with that, she will just wait by the door until your return. She responds pretty well to a firm tone, She sometimes gets extra excited when she sees other dogs so be mindful when walking her on leash because she will occasionally grumble. I take her on short walks in the morning, evening and sometimes late afternoon and then one longer walk when I can. As far as people go, she is not shy — Champagne is very comfortable going right up to anyone and smelling them. She is excited to go out and she gets playful when you are trying to put her harness on. But she definitely does not play rough. She will make someone a very sweet, gentle companion!! With our new online adoption survey, you can complete the adoption process remotely wherever you are. However, we do need you or someone on your behalf to come in person to our Pet Adoption Center in Raleigh, NC to pick up your pet. Generally, pets must be picked up the same day that you submit your adoption survey. Or, if you submit your survey at the very end of the day, their hold may be extended to the following day. For adult pets, we highly recommend that you personally come to meet the pet yourself prior to finalizing adoption to be sure they are the right fit. We recommend that you still submit an adoption survey for that pet in order to be a backup adopter. If the first adopter falls through which does happen , then the next adopter will be notified that the pet is on hold for them. But this is the perfect time to consider some of the other adoptable pets, including overlooked pets, who are patiently waiting for loving homes! How long can you keep the pet on hold for me? In order to be fair to the pet and other potential adopters, we are only able to hold the pet until you have completed your adoption appointment. Once you have submitted your survey and come in for your scheduled adoption appointment, please be prepared to bring the pet home with you right afterward. Your Adoption Specialist will discuss any applicable exceptions with you during the adoption process. Will the pet be there when I arrive for my appointment? Your appointment is to complete the adoption process with an Adoption Specialist. Your Specialist will not call the pet over from another location until this conversation is complete. To save you from potentially having to make multiple trips, we would recommend doing the adoption process by phone; then we can arrange for a time for you to meet the pet. In order to have enough time for adopters to complete the adoption process, meet their desired pet, and finalize paperwork before closing, our team cannot start the adoption process after this time. We may be able to squeeze you in, but that is dependent on staffing as well as what meetings and pick-ups are already scheduled. Submitting an Adoption Survey automatically places that pet on hold for you. But in order to be as fair as possible to the pets in our care and to other potential adopters, we aren't able to keep a pet on hold for you for an extended period of time. Because of this, we only offer adoption appointments within a certain window from when you first put that pet on hold. How many pets can I place on hold? In order to be fair to all adopters, we are only able to place one pet on hold for you at a time or two, in the case of a bonded pair. Adult dogs and cats 1 year and older are eligible for a program called Pet Sleepovers where you can bring the pet home as a temporary foster to try them out in your home prior to finalizing adoption.
