Now for the question of how this color came in to existence.Nobody truly knows. There is photographic evidence of white Pugs that belonged to royalty. But remember, average Labrador weight is not totally straight forward… Average Labrador Weight Labradors come in a wide variety of sizes. So average Labrador Retriever weight figures can be misleading. As a very rough guide an adult female Labrador might weigh between 55 and 70lbs. An adult male Lab will weigh 65 — 80lbs. Female Lab weight will on average be lower than male Lab weight, but as you can see there is a considerable cross over. But Labradors also come in a couple of different types, and his type will have an impact upon his ideal Labrador weight. English Labs bred from show lines are likely to be at the upper end of the scale. You can expect English Lab weight to be around 60 — 70 lbs for a female and 70 — 80 lbs for a male. Some of our chunkier, show bred Labs can be a good twenty pounds or more heavier than their field bred cousins, without necessarily being overweight. Whereas the American Lab who is field bred is likely to be at the lower end of average. Volume for volume, muscle weighs more. So it is worth bearing in mind, that a very fit dog will have more muscle and may weigh more than an unfit dog of similar dimensions. Black Lab Weight In theory there should be no difference in weight between Labradors of different colors. Black Labrador weight for an English black Lab will probably be at the higher end of the range, for an American black Lab it will likely be lower. Black Labs are frequently found in both these categories, but some Lab colors differ. For example the chocolates. Chocolate Lab Weight Chocolate Labs are more likely to be show bred than field bred. To get them feeling happy and relaxed again , you might want to meet with a vet to see what's going on—and to rule out any physical conditions. You can also try a few habit changes and lifestyle tweaks to get them back to normal. I see depression a lot in dogs whose families have gone through a divorce," says Dr. Ochoa adds that dogs can get very attached to people and other pets, so when these relationships change, they can show signs of depression. If you think your dog is down in the dumps, here are the signs to look for and ways to help perk them back up. Fatigue "Most dogs that are depressed will lay around more and not really want to interact with other people in the house," says Ochoa. All of which supports the idea that dogs can not only sense when we are sad, but they share in our sadness with us. Try to get them happy and excited about a game or walk first, and then capture the moment with lots of praise and attention. The idea is that by encouraging a habit of embracing the good things in life, it will come more and more naturally to them. Mistreated Depression in Labradors There are several things that can cause a temporary or clinical, long-term depression in Labradors. If an owner or pet-friend dies, Labs will often become obviously sad. Their behavior changes and can be very worrisome to their owner. If you know that your dog has lost a pal, then you can sometimes just give him a couple weeks. I am no expert, but there seems to be a legit mourning period for dogs just like there is for people. Sometimes only time can fix those types of hurts. On the other hand, if you cannot figure out why your dog is moping around and refusing to eat, then you should get him to the vet as soon as possible. Bored Labradors were bred to be very active dogs. They need a serious amount of exercise. This is a ticket for one on a long guilty trip. Get your dog outside and go have some fun. One trip outside with a really good, long round of fetch, and your Lab will be back to his happy old self. You should consider 45 to 60 minutes of hard exercise an absolute must for full-grown Labs. Illness Apparent sadness can be an indicator that your dog does not feel well. An upset stomach or sore legs can slow a Labrador down and put a damper on their typical upbeat attitude. If you think your dog might be sick or sore, give her a gentle rub down. If you find a gentle spot, then you may have found the root cause as to why your Lab is sad. Bad Diet Just like trying to put gasoline in a diesel engine; a bad diet will slow down a Labrador. Remember, Labradors are bred for high octane energy. But if you are giving your dog lousy fuel, she will not be able to go at her typical high speed. She will lack the energy to do what she really wants to do—run and chase and run some more. Mistreated This is the worst kind of dog sadness—neglect and abuse. Dogs that have been neglected for long periods of time will develop a mistrust of people. When it comes to Labrador Retrievers, they are typically a very trusting dog. In fact, I believe that in order to be truly happy, Labs need strong relationships with the people in their lives. If they are robbed of those bonds, it will cause these typically friendly, happy dogs to become depressed and sad. It is not uncommon to find rescue Labs with this forlorn, sad look on their face. Their eyes can seem unusually shallow or hollow. The great news is that it usually only takes an extended experience with a loving family to restore the life to their eyes and their behavior.
