We had only had Maggie for about two and a half weeks before we went to pick Zoey up and let me tell you that having two puppies in one house at the same time has not been a walk in the park. We also have another dog in the the house, a Pomsky named Koda Bear. She is almost two years old and has had a rough time adjusting to the two new pups in the house. There has been a lot of fighting, yelling, and getting mad at each other and that is just between my parents and myself. The dogs themselves have gotten into several fights and screaming matches. So what exactly is it like to live with two bulldog puppies and a little bit older Pomsky you ask? Well, it's not easy, I will tell you that. We thought it was going to be a good thing to have two puppies from the same litter in the same home, and for the most part it was a good thing but at other times it was like hell because all they did was fight and bite each other. It would be quiet for a long time and then you hear a blood hurting cry come from one of the pups, and most of the time it was coming from Zoey. Fighting isn't the only thing we have to deal with when it comes to the pups. There is also a lot more clean up when you have more than one dog. They are puppies after all and we know that they don't have strong bladders yet, so we try to take them outside as soon as they wake up from a nap and also a hour or so after they eat a meal, but sometimes we don't always get them outside in time and they pee on the floor. This makes it a little frustrating because now we have to try and tackle three dogs while trying to clean up a mess on the floor. Yet, for the most part potty training two puppies at once is a lot easier than if we would have had to train them at separate times. We are sort of killing two birds with one stone in this instance. Meal times are a little hard as well because our older dog, Koda, is used to eating whenever she wants. We call her a grazer because we used to leave her food bowl out all day and she would just eat whenever she got hungry. We couldn't exactly do that same thing with the puppies because they need to be fed a certain amount of food each day and at specific times. So we can no longer leave Koda's food bowl out for her because the puppies will go to her bowl and eat her food when they are done with their own food. We also have to be careful with the water bowl around the puppies because all they want to do is drink water all the time and with potty training them we try not to have them drink water after 8 p. Meal time training is going to take a while to get used to and it is going to take a while before we can leave the food and water out whenever. Now I know I have told you some of the hard times when it comes to having two puppies in the house but don't get me wrong there are some really good times as well. One of my favorite things since having the puppies in the house is that at night our older dog, Koda, actually sleeps in my room which is not normal for her because she normally sleeps in my parents' bed. I like having Koda in my room at night. I like the fact that I can reach over and pet her and know that I have someone with me at night. I also love all of the cute pictures that I have been able to take because of these two adorable puppies. They have also just given us more joy in our lives and have given us something to play with in our free time. I also like that they love to snuggle, at least at this point in their lives. Zoey is a bigger snuggler than her sister, Maggie but that is okay because snuggling isn't for everyone. There have been ups and downs to having two puppies in one house at one time, but I don't think we would change anything. By 5 weeks old German Shepherd puppies will be eating a lot of solid foods, several times throughout the day. Those sharp little teeth would have done their job and mom will be gradually weaning her pups of the dependency on her milk. When mom does feed her puppies, she will only do so for a short period whilst standing up. They will be eating between five and six small meals a day. Although the pups no longer rely on mom for milk, they still need her help and guidance for the next few weeks. Mom will be teaching her babies important life skills to live alongside humans. In some countries 6 week old puppies are taken away from their mothers and moved into their new home. We would not recommend this as the puppies will miss out on continued bite inhibition training from their siblings and mother. This can result in a puppy who bites too hard which can be challenging to manage as they get older. In the USA your puppy will be due their first combined 5-in-1 vaccine at 6 weeks old. This vaccine helps to immunizes your puppy against hepatitis, parvo, distemper, parainfluenza and coronavirus. Most puppies will also need to be wormed again at 6 weeks old. Their last week together will consist of plenty of socialization and playing. Most breeders will arrange a 7 week health check up with the vet to make sure your bundle of fluff is fit and healthy to go to their new home. In the UK some breeders will arrange for the pups first 8 week vaccination to take place during this check. Although some vets advise against it. By the end of this week German Shepherd puppies are ready to leave their mothers and move into their new homes for good. The week you get to take your new puppy home. This will be a very exciting time, but you may also be feeling a bit nervous. There will be some challenged along the way for new puppy owners and your puppy will take some time to adjust to life without its mother and siblings. Establishing a daily routine is the best way to get your German Shepherd puppy to sleep through the night. Part of this schedule will involve mealtimes. Your 9 week old puppy will need four meals a day. Split these up throughout the day and try to stick to similar times. This is to stop encouraging your puppy to wake up earlier and earlier because they associate waking with food. You should always reward your puppy either vocally, with a favourite toy or treats for good behaviour and ignore bad behaviour. Puppies and dogs want to be praised so they respond very well to positive encouragement. Punishing puppies and dogs may have a short term positive effect on their behaviour but long term you could be setting them up to fail. It is very important to socialise and expose your puppy to other humans, dogs and different scenarios whilst they are young. This maybe hard before your puppy has had all its vaccines however getting many different people to come and visit you at your home will enable them to get used to visitors. Puppies 10 week injection In the UK is a booster vaccination to help immunizes your puppy against distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis and hepatitis. Check with your vet what date after their jabs your German Shepherd puppy will be able to go down outside. Your puppy will then need a booster between 6 and 12 months old. If you live in the USA at 12 weeks old your German Shepherd puppy will be due their booster for the combined 5in1 vaccine against hepatitis, distemper, parainfluenza, parvo and coronavirus and a vaccine against rabies and leptospirosis. If you live in a high risk area, they may also need to be given the vaccination to help immunize them against Lyme. This is great time for you to introduce them to the big wide world and develop their social skills which you have already been building the foundations. When taking your German Shepherd puppy out try to introduce them to as many other friendly dogs, humans and noises you can. This will help your German Shepherd puppy to grown into a confident well-rounded dog. At 3 months old your German Shepherd will go down from four daily meals to three. These three portions will be larger than what they are used to which may cause stomach upset. If your German Shepherd puppy does get an upset stomach, try going back to four smaller meals for a couple of days and they try the three larger portions again. This can be a challenging time as your adorable German Shepherd puppy turns into a furry crocodile. Luckily the teething stage is only a phase as with human babies and short lived. For Frenchies a C-section is usually considered the safest option. Caesarean section or C-section will involve the use of surgery to deliver the puppies. This is often necessary when a vaginal delivery will be too unsafe for the dam or the puppy or both. The oversized heads of the puppies and narrow pelvis of the dam makes it difficult for the dog to give birth naturally. What is the minimum mating age for French Bulldogs? Age of maturity differs from one dog breed to another. It has however been found that small breeds mature faster than large breeds. Male French bulldogs become fertile after about six months old. The cycle of a dam is divided into four: Proestrus: Your dam is in her proestrus when she has a bloody vaginal discharge and her vulva becomes swollen. This is when she attracts males, not for breeding. This period lasts for about nine days. Estrus: This follows the proestrus and also lasts for about nine days. During this time the female is fertile and will allow breeding. For breeding purposes, please note that ovulation will usually occur in the first 48 hours of this period. It is a period of about 60 to 63 days. It will occur whether or not your dam becomes pregnant. If your female becomes pregnant during estrus, the diestrus stage will last until she whelps or gives birth. False pregnancy is however also possible during this period. In this situation, your Dam may show signs of being pregnant even though she is not. Anestrus: This period lasts between three to four months. During this time, no sexual activity takes place. After the Estrus, you have to look for signs of pregnancy in your dam. These signs include an increase in appetite, weight, or nipple size. This is however not that conclusive in itself. As mentioned earlier, your dam may show pregnancy signs and still not be pregnant. A Vet can make this confirmation for you by conductingan ultrasound or X-ray or by examining her abdominal palpitation at 28 days.
