Most of them are deeply attached to their master and would be content in staying in their laps just like the Pug. The Dachshund Pug mix always craves for a company and would resort to destructive activities when left alone for prolonged periods. They are extremely cautious and wary when strangers are around the domain of their home, while a few might even be aggressive enough the moment they spot an unknown face like the Dachshund, a trait that makes them excel as good watchdogs. However, once they get to understand that the unfamiliar person is of no harm to their family, the Daug would display friendliness towards them. They are frequent barkers, a trait inherited from its Dachshund parent and may be quite vocal about the intrusion of an unknown person into its territory. They get along well with children also sharing a comfortable rapport with other dogs and non-canine pets, provided they have been brought up or socialized to interact with them. However, they might display a territorial nature and even an urge to chase smaller pets, thus needing supervision during their interaction. Care Exercise Though an energetic breed, they have low exercise needs and would suffice with one long walk or two short ones on a daily basis. Since they thrive well in apartments, giving them balls, soft toys and other interactive playthings would help in providing mental stimulation. Grooming Since the Pugsund is a low to moderate shedder, it has low grooming requirements, being perfect for busy owners. The force also limits or cuts off the blood flow to the heart or can rupture organs which can both lead to death. Therefore, they are usually more difficult to train. With that said, they do need quite a bit of socialization. They need to be introduced to many different dogs, people, and situations at a young age. This will help them be friendly and accepting when they are introduced to new people as adults. Puppy classes are very good for this. They provide the opportunity for this dog to meet others in a safe and controlled environment. Often, puppy obedience classes are really about getting the dog socialized, with some extra training thrown in. They do shed quite a bit, though their shedding may be particularly bad during certain times of the year. We do recommend brushing them twice a week to reduce this fur loss. Otherwise, they can quickly cover your house with hair. These brushing sessions will also remove dirt from their coat, elongating the time they can wait between baths. This also spreads around the natural oils in their fur, which can keep their coat and skin healthier. These dogs do not need baths very much as all. We only recommend bathing them if they get physically dirty. Otherwise, they may need a bath every few months at the most. If they have wrinkles on their face, you will need to clean them regularly to prevent bacteria and moisture from building up. Dog wipes are often the best option for this. Both of their parents are prone to a variety of health problems, which this mixed breed can inherit as well. Of course, they do tend to be healthier than either of their parents. Many are still prone to a variety of health conditions, though. In particular, these dogs are prone to brachycephalic syndrome. This can make it difficult for them to breathe, as all the bones and facial muscles are shoved together. These dogs usually cannot breathe properly and have difficulty cooling themselves. This leaves them open to heat exhaustion and exercise-induced collapse. This condition is exactly why these canines are prone to snorting and coughing. Due to their bone structure, these dogs often have eye problems as well. Their eyes tend to pop out of their heads, which causes all sorts of eye problems. It makes it produce far too many hormones, which can make it seem like your dog is growing and aging too quickly. If it is caught early, this condition is treatable. Intervertebral disk disease can occur in dogs with long backs. This condition occurs when the area within the spinal column becomes swollen, cutting off the nerves going to the lower body. Typically, dogs with long backs are more likely to develop this condition. It is usually caused by an injury, jumping, or some similar physical activity. Dogs with IVD will typically experience pain in their lower legs, followed by muscle weakness. Eventually, they will become paralyzed in their lower body, including their legs and bladder. Treatment for this condition includes crate rest and the occasional surgery. Surgery can be helpful for some canines, but it is expensive and does not always work. Minor Conditions. What Does a Daug Look Like? Pugs and dachshunds are similar in some ways and different in many others. As a result, the exact look of a wiener dog and pug mix will depend on which parent the pup takes more from. This means that the Pugsund will either have short legs like the dachshund or more standard length legs like the pug. The same goes for the muzzle — it will either be flat like that of a pug or elongated as it is with dachshunds. It can also be somewhere in between too. There are various possibilities for the coat of the Daug too as dachshunds can have various coats themselves. Dachshunds can be either wirehaired, longhaired, or smooth and the same goes for the Pugsund. Size-wise, things are a bit more standardized as both breeds tend to be small. If a pug is mixed with a miniature dachshund, however, the resulting Daug can be as short as inches cm. As for the weight, a Pugsund can weigh anywhere between 14 and 32 pounds kg. In short — a Daug can look in many different ways. Seeing the parents in person is also crucial and it will give you even more insight as to how your pup will turn out to look. Judging the personality of a mixed designer breed is always a challenge and the Pugsund is no exception. Both pugs and dachshunds are very strong-willed dogs too. As far as we can tell, however, the personality of the Daug breed appears relatively consistent given that but pugs and dachshunds are similar in a lot of ways. Both parent breeds are loving and playful family dogs, both can be a bit self-minded and independent, and both usually function best as single pets. All that seems to apply to the Pugsund as well. Obedience training itself is also very important as it is for both dachshunds and pugs. Another major thing to keep in mind is separation anxiety. Both dachshunds and pugs are very prone to developing anxiety and depressive tendencies when left home alone and the same goes for the Pugsund. As neither the dachshund nor the pug requires too much exercise, the same goes for the Daug. Or, it can have no harmful genetic predispositions at all. From the pug side, a Daug can have a flat face Brachycephalic Syndrome and all the corresponding respiratory problems, difficulties breathing, difficulties cooling, overheating due to high stress or temperatures, and so on. If the Daug is not flat-faced, however, none of these will be a problem. Never skip the regular vet check-ups and always maintain a good diet and a proper exercise regime to avoid most issues.

A Comfy Bed Your French bulldog puppy should learn to sleep in its own, comfy bed. Unless you love having it in your bed, that is not my preference now. Growing up though, I loved having my family dog in bed at night as a child. He protected me from the closet monster and I gave a wonderful place to lay his head down. I digress, the best is to train your new puppy to stay in its own bed. Grooming Supplies French bulldogs are a low-shedding breed, but still, need regular grooming. We still have to vacuum a lot, especially during shedding seasons. French bulldog puppies have sensitive skin, so buy only a hypoallergenic shampoo for them and bath occasionally. Lots of Chew Toys Puppies love to explore everything through their mouths and will chew everything. Provide them with lots of chew toys that indulge their teething instincts. Harness, Collar, and Leash Find an appropriate harness, collar, and leash. I use a harness such as this on Amazon. It offers bodily support and protects from excessive tension around the neck. Self-Cooling Pads French bulldogs are also prone to over-heating. Remember, French bulldogs are indoor pets, they are not built for extreme hot or cold weather. A Warm Jacket With that in mind, if you live in a cooler climate or somewhere that experiences the 4 seasons, it is best to be prepared. Get your Frenchie a warm jacket. This is a simple, warm, and fashionable jacket that is sure to please. Frenchies are unable to regulate their body temperatures not only in hot weather but in cold ones also. The French bulldogs remain hyperactive when they are young especially up to the age of 4 and 5 years. So, till then, you have to get used to their excited bursts of energy. French bulldog puppies are extremely hyperactive and can sometimes remain the same into adulthood too. They need plenty of mental and physical stimulation to quell this behavior. I play hard with my bulldog at least once a day. Daisy loves to get her chew toy and play keep away. French bulldogs sleep a lot but when they are awake they need a lot of attention from their owners. As puppies, French bulldogs can be quite hyperactive and destructive. But there is hope. Bulldogs in general should have a minimum of two physical activities, usually morning and evening a day. This can consist of two walks of mins each or a walk and active play time. Redirect this energy into something positive. Causes of Hyperactivity in a French Bulldog Puppy French bulldog puppies have a medium level of energy but they love playing and running around. Lack of exercise and play can make them hyper. Your French bulldog puppy needs attention. They love the company of their owners and crave their time. A French bulldog puppy may be hyper as a result of their mixed genes, training, and also how well they are socialized. French bulldog puppies need a loving home to grow up. They are not happy if neglected. So, if you are leaving your puppy alone for long periods then you may notice destructive habits in them, which are not that easy to break. Keeping your French bulldog puppy active is a great way to expend their energy that can help them calm down. Give ample exercise to your French bulldog puppy. If their energy is not worked off, it will come out in many ways like: chewing the furniture, your shoes, damaging things in the house, etc. Taking your pup out for a walk at the park, or playing fetch with them can help with hyperactivity. If it is for attention, then make sure to set some time aside to give direct attention to your French bulldog puppy. During that time forget about everything else and interact with your puppy or play with them. This will result in a stronger bond between you and your French bulldog pup and eventually result in better behavior. If your dog starts jumping and barking at your guests or whenever they act hyper, avoid giving them any attention. Any engagement from your side will be perceived as a reward for their unruly behavior. As soon as your pup calms down, reward this good behavior with a pat on the head or a word of praise. This way your puppy will learn quickly how you want them to behave. You may also consider taking them in for professional training. A dog trainer is skilled to assess any behavioral issues your pup may have and also offer a long-term solution. Many training methods can be used to communicate the calm and relaxed behaviors you expect your puppies to display. Another solution could be getting another dog who can keep your French bulldog puppy busy while you are away from home. You can also use treats to calm down your puppy during training exercises. Each time your pup complies with your command reward him with healthy treats so that they understand your command. Gentle positive reinforcement teaches your puppy to behave appropriately. Keep the training sessions short as puppies have very short attention spans. But you have to remain patient and understand that it will take your pup a few sessions to learn these commands. Never punish your puppy, it will make them fearful of you and will damage your relationship. Take your French bulldog puppy to socialization classes that will allow them to get trained for leash walks, recall once they are off the lead, and remaining calm despite the presence of distractions like other puppies and even other people. You can give your puppy some mental stimulation through toys. Give them stuffed toys or have your puppy search for a hidden treat inside a toy like a hollow bone. Playing with these toys will help stimulate their mind and also drain their energy. Puppies at the time of teething may have some discomfort from sore teeth and gums and may need to gnaw at something. Never play rough games with your puppy and push them around with your hands. This will just encourage the puppy to use their teeth to grab you. Instead stroke their backs, gently rub their ears, or maybe gently scratch them. Your puppy will learn that hands are soft things and not dog chews or tug toys! Caring for a French Bulldog Puppy Clean the dark and moist folds on their heads regularly. These folds collect dirt, dust and food leftovers. You can do this using baby wipes or a wet towel. French bulldog puppies have shortened nostrils so you need to keep them in air-conditioned rooms and keep them hydrated all the time. They can easily get overheated which can be fatal for them. Their cute bat-like ears also collect dirt, dust, and pieces of grass. Therefore, keep their ears clean using special ear ointment. Their short and twisted tail is prone to collect dirt and feces that can cause serious infections. Get a harness that covers their whole body and hence provide them with better support. So if you fancy a swim with your French bulldog puppy you will need a good quality safety life jacket. French bulldog puppies adore food and can very easily become obese. Also, your French bulldog puppy may experience excruciating pain while walking. French bulldog puppies are comical and dependably friendly. They are high on energy and extremely affectionate.
