Be careful of this website Be careful of this website, it's an advertising website and if you have a problem with a puppy the reviews are moderated, I purchased a French bulldog and drove 6 hours to the breeders home in paradise pa named Omar and Maime Blank after staying in a hotel and arriving the next morning, I was told of several health issues including a knee that pops out according to the vet check and three hernias. My son was waiting and I did not gave the heart to tell my ten year old son we didn't get the puppy. The breeders know it was for my young son, and said nothing about the health issues in any way, knowing that after I travelled I would probably buy the puppy if my son was with me as I said he was excited. I was not offered s discount in anyway and the health guarantee was changed from One year to one month. As my son held the puppy in his hands with a smile I just bought the puppy and could not hurt my son as we recently lost a pet as we told the breeders. These heartless breeders should not be allowed on greenfield and I will tend to my expenses as I will keep this puppy and endure the expenses but the fact is these people are very dishonest. I thought the Amish were known for being honest, I guess not I'm Naive. Date of experience: April 28, LL. From a nice family in PA. After my friends met her they bought the other 2 puppies. Thank you, Mr. Henry, for allowing our fur baby dreams to come true. My dog was just diagnosed with Congenital Hydrocephalus. Fluid on the brain. This condition happens in the mother's womb usually due to poor prenatal care. It cannot be cured. The doctor said she was surprised my dog lived for 3 years. She had to be put down. When I drove to Pa to pick up my puppy, the breeder wouldn't let me come to his home because it was Sunday and his religion wouldn't allow him to do business; I was told to pick up my puppy from his Uncle's house. Should have been a red flag, but the family was so excited to get her. I asked if he would take a picture of the puppy's parents on his phone and send it to me. Never got a picture. This was a birth defect. If the breeder was reputable he would have been aware. All this heart ache because of liars and scammers! Do not buy a puppy from this website. They are either sick or have bad skin conditions. The breeder refused to give our deposit back. He ended up having round worms, severe itching, acne, bumps on his skin, etc. Of course, my luck, these issues were within the 30 days and some after. I found out in October that he has hip dysplasia, which it is believed to be he had it when he was a couple of months old. This breeder really did me and my dog an injustice. He said he was healthy and is experienced with breeding Rottweilers. He should NOT be able to breed any more! If I could give negative stars I would. Horrible and so unfair to me and especially all of the dogs suffering because of negligence. He had is daughter less than 10 years old, approximately and a woman, that knew nothing about the puppies, give me information on the basic questions. I would NOT buy from this breeder. Please be careful if you do. Just appalling. If this is true, this is a violation of federal law 15 USC .This should be investigated. On several complaints with the BBB, their responses explicitly state they do not have records for these dogs. They have no way to prove their claim that these are only the best puppies. This is misleading and should be investigated. My pup had an umbilical hernia and the vet stated that he needed to get surgery to close it up. I immediately reached out to the breeder after his checkout to inform him and got no response. Reached out again 6months later after his second vet check and no response again. I then emailed Greenfield Puppies directly since our dog came with a 1 year health guarantee and no response from them either. I have sent them three emails with photos and still nothing.Why advertise that you offer a health guarantee when you completely ignore the customer? The boy had the diarrhea from day 1 and 3 days later the girl stopped eating. I called him and told him and he said to give them nutritional gel but that did nothing and I took them to the vet. They had Coccidia, which, is contagious. I called him told him as they still had other puppies which were probably infected too. I also said that since the puppies were not healthy when I got them that they owed me the vet bill. That was a month ago and still no reimbursement. I called him twice and no response. Greenfield advertises healthy puppies guaranteed. Obviously, that's a lie. I don't mind if I would have been reimbursed for the vet bill but, when they advertise healthy puppies they should stand by that. Two weeks ago Greenfield puppies offered to mediate my case with the Millers but I have heard nothing from them either. So I guess the healthy puppy guaranteed is mute. Don't buy from any of their breeders. They are puppy mills as I have found out. I will never buy from them again. I wish I would have figured that out earlier. I do love my puppies but I worry that they might have some hereditary problem down the road. I pray that they don't. The facility was very clean and comfortable. However, she is great with children and very patient with them. They have a lot of energy and would be a great fit for someone with an active lifestyle that has time to wear them out. Their size is perfect as well. They are big enough to be intimating as far as protection goes, and small enough to travel with and meet weight restriction for certain living situations. He was very hyper as a puppy and required a lot of exercise, as all boxers do. As he got older, he calmed down but when I wanted to play or go for a walk, he'd get up for me. They're extremely loyal and are great with kids once they have grown out of their main puppy stage. Even when they're old, they're like big babies. Not a lot of grooming is required other than their nails and face wrinkles along with other normal grooming requirements. I do not recommend getting a boxer if you won't give your companion a lot of attention and if they don't have enough room to run around. He lived 10 years and died of lung cancer. He was raised in a no smoking house and ate life abundance dog food his whole life. He was my best friend, loyal, sociable and very obedient. He was high energy until he died. He was confident and was not shy. Our guests were his guests. He was a blessing to our home. She was the most even tempered, kid friendly dog I have ever met. Even though she could be skittish, she never once nipped or was aggressive toward humans or other dogs, and play-fought with puppies. She was friendly toward every guest we ever had and loved to play with tennis balls. My mother bought Roxann after my father died. They are fantastic with children and very protective of their people. Sweet, loving personalities. Boxers are as good as it gets. We took her to the vet on 3 15 .She is perfect. They were great with our two boys growing up and now great with our grandchiidren. Our other boxers lived to be between 11 and 12 and even though their life expectancy is not as long as smaller dogs this breed gives you so much love and big wet kisses I cant describe the joy. The only issue is that they are so loveable but so big they love to jump up on people and this is something that you need to teach them as puppies. I cant wait to go on Saturday to pick up our fourth boxer. I feel guilty getting one so soon after Baxter just passed on Saturday suddenly but our hearts have been ripped apart and I am sure that little Buck will help us heal faster. Goofy, personable, people pleaser so very easy to train as long as you establish dominance, awesome with kids and all kinds of animals. He is VERY energetic but loves his naps. He does require quite a bit of patience, especially in the beginning. He is completely harmless. Even though he is not exactly a small breed, he is convinced he is a lap dog. I never have to worry about guests or kids coming over or even coming up to him while on a walk. He loves all people, dogs as well. He doesn't do too well with separation. He can get bored easily, and with all of that energy make sure you take your boxers for walks and supply him with plenty of toys because he can get a bit destructive in the house if he isn't entertained enough. Although in the beginning it was a little tough, he is obedient and well trained now. I would recommend this breed to anyone with a little patience, and a lot of love to give. What I love most about them is they stay puppy-like for a very long time. But they are stubborn and they do like to jump, they require good training, a lot of exercise and attention. For a first-time buyer they might not be the best fit. I have had 3 Boxers and two of them did have cancer. Boxers are prone to cancer. But I did put them both through radiation and they both lived another 5 years cancer free! Even though they are prone to health issues and their longevity isn't what us Boxer lovers would want, their personality makes it all worth while and I wouldn't get any other breed! They also gently asked if we were able to give puppy lots of exercise as the litter was allowed several hours of play a day in the field with their parents I assured them we live near a bike trail. More Both of puppy's parents were in a large pen hanging out- they looked well fed and had healthy coats and shiny alert eyes. We've now had the puppy for 8 weeks. She is a JOY. Everyone stranger who meets her and who claims to have known other lab puppies either owned or has friends with a lab say she is the calmest lab puppy they have ever met. Our puppy is exceptionally bright and learns most commands with very little repetition. Our trainer recommended we enroll her in good canine citizen program at 5 months instead of 6 months because she's picking up lessons so quickly. Aside from typical puppy teething issues and the occasional sit strikes during walks when she was home the first 3 weeks, she's mature beyond her years and all of that has virtually ended now that she's 22 weeks old. They claimed they were 12 weeks old. I took them to the vet immediately. They were vomiting up eggshells, hay, and brown material. They were not from the same litter. The vet estimated they were from 3 separate litters; one was an adult. The male puppies had two sets of testicles. The female was ectrodactyly. They were inbred. It cost double to fix each male because they had to clip the descended testicles and surgically remove the crypto set. The breeder Linda refuses to accept any responsibility that she sold me a mixed dog. She blames me for buying it without a DNA test first?! More I reached out to Greenfield to notify them that she was fraudulently selling mutts as purebred against ACA also and Greenfield didn't ban them or even suspend them. Greenfield allows them to continue scamming potential buyers. I have since learned that people get puppy mills dogs and split the profits with the mill owners to sell on sites like Greenfield Puppies. Greenfield is a cover for puppy mills! As soon as we got home, he had bloody diarrhea all over the floor. We thought it could just be from the stress of the car ride home, but took him to the vet and he tested positive for giardia. I informed the breeder and was ghosted. It is now October, the giardia is finally gone but now my puppy has c diff which is another horrible thing for him to be dealing with so young. This has been an extremely stressful time treating him and dealing with constant diarrhea, not to mention very expensive with so many vet visits, tests, and medications. However, in hindsight there are many signs that Mr. More First of all, he offers multiple breeds and many puppies. Then he doesn't show you the parents or the place the puppies are kept. He is also highly transactional, and the overall in-person experience seemed somewhat staged. Finally, he uses a relative to do the medical exam. Please, judge for yourself and read up about Amish puppy mills before buying here. If you already bought one from him, observe if your puppy has behavioral e. Also found out someone else from this breeder got a sick pup and the vet bill just to get meds to help him were a few hundred dollars, please stay away, most of the dealers are Amish and I found out after they don't have to follow same rules of other breeders due to the religious beliefs. Today I left a message that our lawyer is getting involved. When I could not find satisfactory information regarding the breeders I started doing independent searches. I found information that several were cited as puppy mills and in violation of several humane treatment of animal violations. I then looked to report this to greenfield and they have no reporting mechanism in place. It seems they are only interested in money and sticking their head in the sand. What type of collar and leash do I need and what size is best for my puppy? We like to buy the less expensive, adjustable-type of collars and a nylon leash. We do not care for the expandable leashes that allow the puppy to walk way out in front or way off to the side of you. The smallest setting for the collar would be about 8 inches and expanding out from there. We use small carabiners to attach the stretched chain between the collar and the leash. This will prevent your puppy from chewing your new leash. If you are reserving a small size pup then I would suggest an XS collar. Another option while they are very young is a slip leash style. Some families like to train in harnesses. This is also a tool you can use. Sizes will vary from company to company, but most go off of weight. Your First Days Home Deer Creek doodle babies start at an advantage of already having been accustomed to a human family schedule. Because we have worked extensively with our doodles on crate training, there should be little to no crying the first few nights with your new puppy. Before puppies are months old, house training is more about management on the human's part and the better the human does at managing mistakes in the house, the sooner the puppy will be completely house trained. Our idea of completely house trained is when a dog tells you they have to go out on their own or use a doggy door, otherwise you are still in the management phase. I know that sounds obvious, but it can be hard at times. It is very easy to give puppies the wrong signals if you pet them or baby talk them while they are being fearful, over excited, etc and in these situations you are actually telling them you like how they are behaving. Rules and discipline are just as important as rewards and a puppy likes to know their boundaries to feel safe. Make sure everyone knows the rules and is consistent on what is allowed and not allowed in the house ex: jumping on the couch, jumping up on people, etc. Having rules makes a respectful dog. Just like children, puppies thrive on structure and will live in confusion if there are no boundaries- making everyone unhappy. Most importantly, expose your puppy to everything you would want them to be a part of in your life within their first 16 weeks of age. During this age, you should continue to socialize your puppy to strangers, take them in the car and in pet friendly stores. You should also continue to get them accustomed to being examined, clipped and bathed at an early age to avoid any behavior problems in these areas in the future. Puppy Schedule: AM: The puppies wake up and are carried outside to the designated potty spot right away. They are carried in the beginning to avoid any mistakes before making it out the door. After a few days of this routine, the puppies are able to run outside on their own after being let out of their crates and no longer need carried. Do not play with your puppy outside when you are taking them out to go to the bathroom. Go back inside first and then go back outside to play. Puppies must not be allowed to roam freely in your home. You have to watch the puppies during the playtime to ensure they do not need another bathroom break. Anytime you are not feeding, holding or playing with your puppy, he should be in the crate. This is very important the first few weeks in your home to continue the crate training. If you allow a very young puppy too much time out in your house unsupervised you can expect some accidents. Once a puppy starts to potty in the house it is harder to break that pattern. Keeping an eye on your puppy at all times during this stage is very important so you can catch their signal that they need to go as soon as possible. They will usually sniff the floor in a circular pattern. Just scoop them up and head out the door to the potty spot. After they go potty outside, praise and even reward with a treat. This will speed up the house-training process. Perform this pattern throughout the day. Be sure that you puppy has finished both 1 and 2 outside before allowing them playtime. A lot of puppies will do both things more than once. Do not play with them at this time so they know they are going out for a reason. If they have not done both things outside, place the puppy back in the crate for a little while and then take them outside again before allowing any playtime in the house. Deer Creek doodles are used to sitting calmly before given each meal as instructed. This is the last time the puppies eat or drink, leaving them satisfied but also allowing enough time before bed to use the bathroom several times to limit any overnight accidents. Now is a great time to play with, exercise or teach your puppy a new trick before bed to wear them down and help them sleep. Reminder : Do not allow your puppy to roam freely around the house at any time of the day without complete supervision. The puppies go in their crates with command "In Your Bed" and are given a treat. The lights are turned out and we say "goodnight. They settle down and relax in their crates because they associate it as their beds. In a new environment, your puppy may or may not whine 30 minutes or less to test their new home, but then will settle shortly and connect the new location with their old training. It is important not to get them out of their crates when they are behaving in a way you do not like because they will associate their negative behavior to a positive "reward" that is getting out of the crate. If your puppy does continue to cry, be sure they cannot see you. Place them in another room and turn out the lights and place a blanket or towel over the crate. You can also play some soothing music or ambient noise in the room with them and give them a Kong toy with a yummy filling inside to occupy them. We do not recommend sleeping with your puppy or with the puppy sleeping in a crate in your bedroom as anytime you were to move the puppy would wake up and have to go out to potty no matter what time of night it may be. Place the crate in another room near the door they would be going out, this is best for house training. Keep in mind you are really the one who is "house trained" in the beginning, knowing when to take the puppy outside to potty, to recognize their body language of needing to potty, and to monitor them closely when they are not in their crate. The better the human does in the beginning at limiting accidents in the house, the faster the puppy will be house trained. My Labradoodle Puppy Adoption I have been meaning to write about how much this now 7 month old puppy has enriched my life. I just wanted to express to anyone checking out this breed that if you are serious about getting one of these Doodles you are making a very good decision. Remember that your 9 week old Labradoodles schedule has just been disrupted, so be patient with your puppy as he adjusts. Let your puppy spend lots of time with you over the first week in his new home, this will help him gain confidence. This will tell your vet which vaccines your puppy needs, which ones he already has, and any other medical history your vet may need to know. After your 9 week old puppy is a little more settled, you can slowly transition their diet to something new. If your Labradoodle is struggling with eating, speak with your veterinarian about supplementing your Labradoodles food. But, if this problem persists, speak to your vet about it and return to their previous diet for the time being. Most 9 week old puppies should eat four small meals a day. However, you can use their meal rations in your training sessions too. Using Food in Training When you train your puppy with positive reward methods, you should use kibble subtracted from their meals, rather than adding the extra treats on top of their daily calorie allowance. Most Labradoodle puppies are very food motivated. But, if your puppy is struggling to concentrate, or seems disinterested, they may not be hungry enough to see the treats as a good reward. Try training before breakfast and other meals to see if this improves their motivation! Food is a great way to reinforce polite behaviors such as keep paws on the floor, and giving attention to human friends. For some puppies these nighttime trips will need to be more frequent, and for others they can be extended. In the day, trips may need to be as frequent as every 20 minutes to avoid accidents. When he does his business, make sure you reward him with lots of praise and a treat. But, try to wait until their bladder is fully empty before rewarding. This is to be expected, so have lots of cleaning supplies on hand. Making sure you get out any potty odor from carpets and flooring is vital to ensuring your puppy does not see the inside of your home as an appropriate place to go to the bathroom. Use an enzyme cleaner to eliminate traces of urine from puppy accidents. Using Puppy Pads Rather than getting up through the night or taking lots of trips outside, some people choose to use puppy pads. But, some Labradoodles will enjoy ripping up puppy pads rather than peeing on them. As we said in the last section, the frequency of this can be as often as every couple of hours. When your puppy first comes home, they may also cry or whine through the night. For the first few days, it can help to keep their bed or crate by your bed, or to sleep next to it. Seeing you will help your 9 week Labradoodle puppy feel a little safer, and less alone. You can gradually move further away from your puppy after those first few nights, but be aware than they may cry through the night if they still feel nervous. Like babies, puppies can get themselves into trouble when left to their own devices. Both playpens and crates are a safe and friendly alternative to leaving your puppy in a closed room or backyard while you are away. Are you considering crate training? If so, rest assured that doing so is not cruel. In fact, when create training is done properly, your puppy will likely be much happier, healthier and well-rounded. Make being in the crate rewarding for your Labradoodle puppy. Hide treats in their for them to find, put them in their to nap through the day, and teach them that being in the crate with the door shut is rewarding. You can place them inside, close the door and open it straight away, offering your puppy a treat. Extend durations in the crate very slowly to avoid any anxiety or problems. Your crate should be big enough for your puppy to lie down, turn around, and stand at full height. Too much bigger, and they may use one end as a toilet. Taking your 9 Week Old Labradoodle Puppy Outside A 9 week old Labradoodle puppy is generally too young to go out and be put on the ground. This is because puppies at this age are not fully vaccinated and are therefore at higher risk for serious illnesses. This is quite a troubling conflict for puppy owners. Labradoodle puppies will benefit a lot from socialization, which has been proven to minimize behavioral problems in older dogs. To properly socialize a dog, you need to introduce them to as many new experiences as possible, with positive connotations. You should not put your Labradoodle puppy on the ground until they are fully vaccinated, so you should carry your doodle when socializing them at 9 weeks. Labradoodle puppies grow quickly, and can become quite heavy, so you may need to invest in a puppy sling to carry them with. Let your Labradoodle puppy see other dogs, plenty of people, other animals like cats, vehicles, busy roads, busy school yards, trains, children, and anything else you can think of that they will encounter in adult life. If your Labradoodle puppy seems nervous at any of these new experiences, try observing it from a little further back with plenty of treats. You can also socialize your puppy to things in the safety of your home, like the sound of fireworks, people visiting, and more. Meeting New People Having people over when your puppy is at 9 weeks old can be a great way to socialize them in the home. You can get your visitors to give your puppy treats and reward them for calm behavior. However, be careful not to set up any negative behavior chains whilst doing this, such as letting your puppy jump up at the guest and rewarding them for getting down! Instead, try to reward them before they even jump, and remove any attention if they do jump up. Make sure your guests know exactly how to act around your puppy to prevent them playing too roughly, or accidentally rewarding your pup for unwanted behaviors. Remember, attention can be just as rewarding as food for an excited puppy. Make sure you redirect any biting to toys to avoid those sharp little teeth from causing you too much pain. Biting periods in Labradoodle puppies are completely normal and will pass in time, but it can be frustrating and painful. Make sure you have a safe space to put your puppy for a time out if you need a break from their little teeth. Reward any calm behavior, such as lying in their crate by choice, or playing with a toy. Wear tight clothing and avoid rough play to minimize biting in your Labradoodle puppy. Having a designated puppy zone, like a playpen, can be vital for your sanity when trying to calm down your puppy. Simply place them in their playpen when they are getting a little over-excited so that they have the opportunity to calm down. This can be very useful if you have children in the house that want to play with the puppy .An over-excited puppy may be more prone to unwanted behaviors like barking and biting. Puppies need more sleep than you might think, so a playpen with their crate in can really help them to calm down and get that much needed rest. In fact, once you get into the swing of things, raising your Labradoodle can be an incredibly rewarding and family-friendly experience. And they love to be petted and get attention. They may jump, grab our hand or arm, or engage in some destructive behaviors. Many of these are normal dog behaviors that can be modified through training and exercise. Normal Dog Behaviors Versus Abnormal Behaviors Dogs naturally dig, bark, express fear in certain situations, mark territory, chase small animals, and jump. They may steal food. Or want to be with us all the time. Goldens were bred to be sociable, high-energy dogs. My rescued golden Spencer almost always had to carry something in his mouth. So I made sure there were safe toys for him to happily tote around. Unfortunately, many dogs are given up to shelters because of behaviors that can be modified. To have a great companion takes a lot of work, patience, and time. And to meet those needs. These should be dealt with by behavior specialists who can evaluate the individual dog and determine the best behavior modification plan. These abnormal behaviors include aggression to those around the dog, obsessive-compulsive disorders, shutting down, and severe separation anxiety. Why Behavior Problems Develop There is no one reason why some behavior problems occur. Unfortunately, goldens are so popular—the third-popular breed ranked by the American Kennel Club—they are often poorly bred. There are too many back-yard and puppy mill dogs who are more likely to not be the examples of what the breed should be. Jumping on People Golden retrievers usually love everyone and never met a stranger. Goldens are the greeting committee of the dog world. Many dogs want to jump on people when greeting them. The golden can, of course, unintentionally injure someone, knocking them over in his exuberant greeting. Engaging in Destructive Behavior In addition to friendliness, goldens were bred to hunt. They have energy to spare. And they were bred to retrieve and have something in their mouths. They may dig up the garden. Or chew up our furniture. Or they may steal the food on the counter. And the food they eat may be toxic, such as chocolate or raisins. Or they may get a blockage from ingesting a towel or sock. A bored, under-exercised golden can get very creative in meeting his needs. They often need to have something in their mouths. That is, he may constantly try to hold our clothes, arm, or hand in his mouth. Biting is a natural canine behavior. But puppies should be taught bite-inhibition. And it can be dangerous. Someone can be badly bruised or even pulled down. Pulling on the Leash Goldens love to go places and greet all their new admirers. But they want to get there sooner rather than later. Many dogs pull on a leash, but not all are as friendly as goldens are known to be. And they can be lazer-focused on getting where they want to go. Being a rather large dog, a golden pulling on a leash can injure someone. An owner can be pulled down and get injured. Or the dog himself can get free and get lost or injured—or worse. Demanding Attention Because of their natural friendliness, goldens may want to be the center of attention. They are so family-oriented, they love to be with us. Some goldens may bark at you for attention. They may nudge you and grab your arm to be recognized. Some may even engage in unwanted behaviors like taking something off the table. Even negative attention is attention. Hyperactivity Some goldens seemingly bounce off the walls. They are like a hurricane passing through the living room. Tables are cleared of bric a brac. Pillows are shredded and on the floor. But your happy golden is furiously wagging his tail, looking for the next item he can use to help expel his excess energy. Separation Anxiety Because of their innate friendly, family-oriented behavior, goldens may suffer from separation anxiety at a higher rate than some other breeds. Their need to be with us can lead to some unwanted behaviors. Dogs with mild separation anxiety may drool, pace, whine, and generally behave in a distressed manner. Dogs with severe separation anxiety may become very destructive. They may try to get out of doors and windows, feverishly digging at door and window frames. They may even severely harm themselves in their attempts to get free. Dogs with separation anxiety may need professional behavioral help. We owe it to our goldens to do all that we can do to meet their natural needs. A bored, untrained, under-exercised, unsupervised golden is going to develop some problem behaviors. Some of the tips below will even help your golden from developing any of the potential problems cited above. I wrote the ways to help fix a problem separately from the problems because it will probably take more than one item to successfully change an unwanted behavior. All of the favorable interactions we have with our goldens also help further our bond with them. Physical Exercise Goldens were bred to hunt. They are highly-energetic dogs. Walks, fetching, jogging, agility, and swimming can all be great ways to physically exercise your golden. A vet check-up is advisable prior to starting any exercise program. Physical exercise can help decrease or eliminate the above-named problems. Of course, you want to exercise your dog enough but not over-tire them. Dogs who have been sufficiently exercised are less likely to jump or engage in destructive activities such as digging or chewing. Also, dogs who are exercised and calm before we leave are less likely to develop separation anxiety. Obedience Training Obedience training helps us communicate with our dogs and informs them what behaviors are desired. So we can teach them to sit before they receive attention. Or to lie down next to us and settle. And we can show him what toys he can put in his mouth rather than destroying items or turning us into his chew toy. Redirection works. And we can teach them to not pull on a leash and to walk on a loose leash. Part of the training should include how to leave your dog alone. This will help prevent separation anxiety from developing. Start with short sessions. Make leaving a happy opportunity—when great things appear. Leave a frozen, stuffed Extreme Kong with him as you leave. If your dog has already shown signs of separation distress, get the help of a qualified behavior specialists. As far as your golden inappropriately seeking attention is concerned, you can ignore your dog. Turn away or get up and leave. But do give him the attention he needs on your terms by calling him over to you occasionally. Pet him. Have him do a command or trick. Praise, pet, and treat. You should also play games with him. Teach him to tug a toy like a rope or long fleece to and give. You can have him play fetch. You can play hide-and-seek where you go and hide and call him to you. Make a big deal when he reaches you YES! Good boy! And not at all with a dog who has separation anxiety. But, to goldens, this is what they often enjoy most. Everyone is a potential friend. Goldens will thrive if they are fed the same times each day, are exercised as needed routinely, and receive attention from their people every day. No dog should be just put aside like a statue. Goldens especially need attention through positive daily interactions—play, training, exercise. If ignored, their sweet, golden personality will wilt. Final Thoughts Golden retrievers are such happy, affable, family dogs. But they are prone more than some breeds to certain problem behaviors because of their genetic purpose to retrieve and their desire to be with people.
