After loosing my first berner to cancer at the young age of 4 and knowing the short life span of the breed, I started exploring dogs with the beauty of the berner but life span of a mix breed. The are also perfect for people with allergies and have a lifespan of years. Twice the length of the berner! We are passionate about sharing this exquisite breed with others, and providing wonderful homes for our pups. Once we decided to get an Australian Labradoodle, we then set out to find the best breeder we could find. We spent several months trying to find a breeder with not only good reviews, but also one who would understand our needs having a son with autism. We thought we had found a good breeder but they were not responsive and their contract was crazy long with some pretty crazy requirements. Right from the start, Judy was very responsive to ALL our questions. She understood our concerns about getting the right dog for our son. Once we decided to go forward with it, she even let us come visit to get to know our soon-to-be new family member. She has been so responsive to our questions and concerns even after bringing little JoJo home. Her training program has made such a huge difference and has taken away so much of the normal stress of having a new puppy. Thank you Judy. We are so in love with our sweet little JoJo. We elected to do bring our pup home around 12 weeks so he could do the advanced training and it was the right choice. Our pup did amazing in his crate, adjusted quickly and was comfortable going out on a leash to learn his bathroom spot at this new house. He did great with a 18 month old and 5 year old without any nipping. Chris Beck The decision to add a dog into our family was a big one. We took our time researching, with the selection of a breeder being a huge factor. I stumbled upon Judy at Magnolia Labradoodles and was instantly intrigued. I liked that she only had one litter at a time. I knew my puppy would be getting attention and care. I liked that past customers said she was responsive and the experience was personal. My telephone conversation with her was also critical. I had lots of questions and she had answers for all of them and gave me all the time I needed to feel comfortable. I could tell she loved what she did and it was personal to her…not just a business. We opted for the additional training and felt this made the transition home for our dog go smoothly. He did not nip at us, knew his name, how to focus on us, how to sit and was happy in his crate. We had to wait quite a while to bring our dog home, but Judy kept us updated with photos and videos. She even face-timed my children twice so they could see their dog. It was a great experience and worth the wait. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Labradoodles. We have always had English Labrador Retrievers, but due to us getting older we wanted something a little smaller but also hardy. Lexi is everything you could ask for: intelligent, kind, loving, good with people and children, loves all dogs, loves to play with our cat, walks and hikes great and the added bonus if the above items are not enough they are absolutely gorgeous!!!! We had an amazing experience with Judy!! Judy was always there to answer all my questions and she still is a year later!! That in itself is an outstanding quality, not to mention the wonderful job Judy does getting them ready for their forever homes. If you are skeptical about doing the 3 week training…DO IT!!! It was well worth it. We put Lexi in her crate the first night and she went right to sleep. I will never forget when we went to pick Lexi up. Judy let us in and there in the living room was this gorgeous, well behaved dog that just sat there until I went over and picked her up. I started crying and as I turned around, so was Judy!! That just showed me the love and compassion she has for raising these outstanding dogs. If after reading this, if you are still unsure, please feel free to contact me. Judy has my contact information. Debbie Stierly Working with Judy was fantastic. Cadbury Harmony and Rhett is as perfect a puppy as you could imagine. From the beginning, Judy helped my daughters face their fear of dogs and see how kind and loving puppies can be. This is absolutely a much better way to ensure success. Judy treats her pups with love and kindness. She dotes on them! When we brought Cadbury home, family and friends could not get over his calm and loving personality. He adjusted immediately, slept well on the first night, and already had learned manners. While it is hard to wait the extra 3 weeks, it is so nice to have a puppy that has learned basic obedience, crate training, and potty training! If you plan to add a puppy to your family and want a dog that will be sweet, obedient, and gentle, look no further! Judy was excellent throughout the process and was responsive, organized, detailed and passionate. Lucy was the smallest in the litter of Harmony and Rhett and needed a lot of extra care just to be able to make it to our home. Judy spent many sleepless nights to make this happen. Lucy is…. She is a kind and gentle puppy with a great spirit for adventure. We are enjoying her everyday! I highly recommend working with Judy if you are looking for a great addition to your family! The puppy that we recently got from Magnolia Australian Doodles was worth the wait and cost for such a lovely little addition to our menagerie. He was introduced to numerous adults, noisy children, other dogs, a cat, sweeper, hour car ride home and multiple other stimuli and he was unfazed. And this was just during the first two days. Not to mention a huge thunder and lightening storm. He is going to one of those special dogs, you talk about. PK Pamela Kratzer Five stars are honestly not enough! Judy made the experience of getting a puppy so easy and stress free. She was always available, and answered my thousands of questions. She sent us updates and photos weekly too! You can tell Judy puts her heart and soul into caring for each litter. Our puppy is almost 3 months old, and we are so happy we chose Magnolia Australian Labradoodles! Our puppy slept the whole first night, and is the most loving and fun puppy ever! Despite the pandemic going on, Judy did her best to socialize the puppies. She sends you home with a complete binder with everything you need to raise your puppy! Duke has been a great addition to our family and I highly recommend Magnolia Australian Labradoodles if you want a caring and knowledgeable breeder!! You guys are truly incredible. Thank you. He really brings a smile to all of us, all the time. I had done a lot of research on the web of this breed. Judy welcomed my questions and answered with obvious knowledge of having done her own research. She was able to answer any question or concern that I may have had. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Australian Labradoodle kennel to anyone looking for a beautiful Australian Labradoodle. I would also highly recommend the additional 3 weeks with Judy as she trains and teaches confidence. Ella came to us, confident and well adjusted. She was able to be in her crate all night 9hrs without even a whimper. She was able to sit and layed down on command. She is a lovable, sweet, attentive and is so well adjusted from the minute we brought her home. Without any hesitation, I give all the credit to her first human mommy, Judy Adams of Magnolia Australian Labradoodles. We adore our Little Miss Ella!! Joyce Rusin. Welcome to the home of Jajaca Australian Labradoodles. They are incredibly fun loving, loyal and intelligent with a brilliant temperament to match. These attributes make for the perfect family companion! I have owned dogs all my life, but ran into many dramas with allergies and health concerns with my then young family. After researching the Australian Labradoodle and what the breed represents, I realised that the Australian Labradoodle was everything I was looking for. Fast forward 15 years, my daughter Cassidy, my adopted sister Nicola and I feel nothing but gratitude to be able to provide our families with the quality Labradoodles I was searching for many years ago. I am so fortunate to have been given encouragement and total support from all members of the ALA, who share their knowledge and wisdom for the betterment of the breed. All these years later and I am still totally hooked, assisting to mentor new ALA Breeders, and finding I am more in love with this breed than I ever thought possible. The Labradoodle has these qualities too. This makes them the perfect family pet. Unfortunately, not all breeders care about producing healthy canines or matching their dogs with suitable owners. Here are five signs to look for when searching for a breeder. Look for a breeder that breeds only one specific kind of mix—like the Labradoodle. Choose a breeder who is unwilling to meet or speak with you about their dogs. They should be eager to answer your questions over the phone and via email. Check out each dog yourself before leaving with a pup. Avoid breeders who keep their dogs in cages or kennels. Dogs kept in these conditions can become neurotic and destructive. Beware of breeders who offer puppies at a very low price. This could signify that the breeder is not breeding for quality but profit. Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in New York? Check out our available English Bulldog Puppies page. At times, we have available puppies but almost always have a waiting list as well. A quick look at our available puppies is the starting point to begin the process. I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. Westminster Adoption Group and Services received 78 bulldogs from an Orange County breeder who had kept the animals in squalor, with every one of the animals suffering some kind of ailment, said Cortney Dorney, the shelter manager for WAGS. The bulldogs were signed over to the shelter by the owner on Friday, allowing the adoptions to proceed. Because the animals are expensive to care for, the shelter will do a type of credit check to ensure the new owners can pay for the extensive medical care they could need in their lifetimes; WAGS, which is the official shelter for the cities of Westminster and Stanton, has never included this step before in the adoption process. They come with a variety of medical conditions for their entire life. Since news of the dogs Nov. The shelter doubled its population when it took in the bulldogs, requiring medicine, vaccines and increased staffing. Because of those costs, the dogs are more expensive to adopt than typical. The ailments the dogs suffer from include urine burns on their feet, mange and eye, ear and skin infections. They are five months to about 11 years old. Applications will be accepted Tuesday through Saturday. Eligible adopters will be chosen on Sunday; they will be able to start seeing the dogs on the next day. Adopters will pick their top three choices, and a lottery will be used to make the final decisions. The dogs will be spayed or neutered before they head to their new homes. For information on how to apply: wagspetadoption. As of Tuesday morning, the site was accessible only sporadically, because of high traffic. Most are moderately friendly toward strangers. Although some can be aggressive with strange dogs, the breed is quite good with other pets. Upkeep The Bulldog appreciates a daily outing but cannot tolerate hot humid weather, which can be deadly. He should not be expected to jog or walk great distances, or to jump from any heights. Most Bulldogs cannot swim. Most Bulldogs wheeze and snore, and some drool. Coat care is minimal, but facial wrinkles and any folds around the tail should be cleaned daily. Special precautions must be taken when anesthetizing a Bulldog. Caesarean deliveries are commonly needed. Hip radiographs show most Bulldogs to be dysplastic but few show overt symptoms. History With the most distinctive mug in dogdom, the Bulldog has an equally distinctive history. Some Bulldogs were also set against bears for bear baiting, purely for entertainment. In , bull baiting was outlawed, and a new phase began for the Bulldog. By all rights, the breed should have become extinct, except that it had gained so many ardent admirers that they set out to rescue the Bulldog by selecting against ferocity while still maintaining—and often accentuating—its distinctive physical characteristics. Its tough steadfast persona led it to be identified as a national symbol of England. Its amiable clownish personality belies its appearance, and the Bulldog is a popular pet. Related Content. Everybody Loves Puppies!! However, senior dogs are usually the first to be euthanized at shelters. The average age of bulldogs in rescue is 5 yrs old! Why not consider adopting a senior? Take a walk through your local shelter and you will see a sad sight. Row after row of senior pets actually dumped there by their owners. Chances of them getting adopted are very slim. In fact, we have actually witnessed people surrendering their senior pets and then walking out of the same shelter with a newly adopted puppy. Imagine the sadness and confusion that senior pet goes through. We hope through our rescue program that some of these forgotten souls will find loving homes. Maybe you are reluctant to adopt a senior dog because you fear that your time with your new best friend will be short, bringing that painful time of loss closer. But the privilege of loving a senior dog makes every single day special, as you and your companion share love, friendship, and a special relationship that grows stronger with the knowledge that you have given this old dog a second chance at life. The love that grows from this knowledge is stronger than the pain of eventual separation. Your decision to adopt a senior pet will be rewarded with unconditional love and devotion. Upcoming Events.

Begin your search for the perfect German Shepherd puppy on TrustedPuppies. First you must find your foundation. I started thinking about how nice it would be to have a German Shepherd Dog like when I was young. I remember how pretty they were so I told Jeffrey, "I want a German shepherd". He immediately went on the hunt. He loves that stuff. When Jeff started showing me the dogs he was finding I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It is so hard to find a old fashion discerning yet calm, straight back shepherd these days. We found out the show dog people, changed the appearance of the Shepherd. It all looks legit so we bought a couple. I didn't care how much money or time I had in them or how great their paperwork said they were I had enough. I couldn't take it anymore. It was not what I wanted. Next Shepherd dog we found was the working line. We got a beautiful pup we called Titus. When we went look at him as a pup I mean he shined. He was like his owners shadow. He never got tripped on and moved like the wind. I knew that this dog had a high prey drive but I didn't know he didn't have an off button. We loved him but at a year old we placed with a man who lived on an 80 acre farm. Lord Jesus, what happened to the big beautiful straight back family farm German Shepherd Dog? I mean who would have thought? How hard could it be? But nowadays, what we were wanting was the minority. Most shepherds now either have the curved back that they swear is healthier, tested and winning everything. That is how they separate them now. They need a job, a serious job. They to hyper and to prey driven for what I wanted. Thanks to The Good Lord Jeff had ask me several times if I would be interested in the white shepherd. I said, "That is exactly what I want. We bought off different litters. These dogs are mentally smart. They are like a human with fur. They will understand your language and they learn everything very very fast. You should just be able to tell them once or twice and they get it. They potty train very fast! They are clean dogs. Most GSD tend to be wary of strangers or aloof, but not ours. Their drive to retrieve things makes them a companion for entertainment. They love kids. Who better to trust watching over the kiddos than the trusted loyal White Shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. According to an article in USA Today, 1, sheep fell off a cliff to their deaths in Turkey in .One sheep fell, so the others followed suit and jumped. In the end, sheep died. The ones that survived only lived because they were cushioned by landing on top of their fellow herd members. As a child growing up in church, I remember seeing a picture of Jesus with a lamb wrapped around his neck. As I grew older and visited more churches, I remember seeing similar pictures at a lot of places. I never questioned the image. The Bible is clear that God is our shepherd, and we are the sheep of his pasture, so I assumed the image demonstrated that biblical truth. However, several years ago while I was attending seminary, the image of the lamb wrapped around the neck of Jesus was explained to me. Because sheep tend to stray and will also follow wherever they are led, shepherds often had to discipline lambs that would stray from their shepherd. The shepherd would use his rod to break the leg of a wandering lamb. After binding the break, the shepherd would carry the lamb on his shoulders while the wound healed. If the lamb struggled and fought, it would quickly realize that the broken leg wouldn't allow it to flee. The lamb learned during the healing process that the shepherd could be trusted. The lamb needed the shepherd to provide food, transportation and protection. Once the wound was completely healed, the lamb was fiercely loyal to the shepherd and wouldn't stray from the shepherd's leading. A few years ago a news story broke about Shrek the sheep. Shrek was a Merino sheep who lived in New Zealand. Shrek became famous because he managed to avoid being captured and shorn for six years. His wool continued to grow and thicken, and his eyes were eventually hidden behind the thick coat. Shrek dodged the sheering by hiding in caves and running from his master. Once Shrek was finally captured and shorn, he carried 60 pounds of wool on his body, nearly six times the average amount. The wool on Shrek's body was enough to produce 20 men's dress suits. It's easy to see why the Bible compares us to sheep. We often follow the crowd, even when it leads to our own demise. We stray from the shepherd who loves us and seeks to protect us. We don't appreciate when God disciplines us. But if we surrender to him we learn through the discipline that God can be trusted. We are often like Shrek the sheep as well. We hide from God, clinging to the things that need to be shorn from us. We become weighed down with the burdens God could easily remove from us. The Bible also shares with us that God anointed his people with oil just as the shepherds anointed the heads of their sheep with oil. This wasn't just a symbolic ritual. Sheep are easy targets for flies, lice and ticks. A sheep that was not covered in oil on his head could easily become the victim of infestations of these pests. However, it wasn't just a nuisance. Bugs would crawl through the ear canal of the unoiled sheep and nest in its brain, eating away at it. The pain from the bugs would be so severe on the sheep that the sheep would bang his skull on rocks and against trees to ease his suffering. The sheep could break his own skull seeking relief from the brain-eating parasites. When God offers to anoint us with his oil, it means he offers us protection from the parasites of this world that seek to eat away at us. If we hide in caves, or jump off the proverbial cliffs of this world, dodging his anointing and protection, we may become victims of this world. We may become so filled with pain that we hit our heads against rocks to ease our suffering. God seeks to shepherd us through this life. Oftentimes that is through discipline, sheering or anointing. But it is always with love, and it is always with our best interest at heart. He is our shepherd. He can be trusted when we surrender to his leading. Aside from vet bills, pet insurance is an important investment that most dog owners tend to ignore. You may not be able to avoid employing the services of pet daycares, dog walkers, and others if you are going out of town or busy with work. These kinds of services are becoming increasingly popular these days. Your pet will be cared for by trained pet handlers at pet daycares. Travel Expenses: If you enjoy traveling with your Golden Retriever, you may need to pay some extra fees because many hotels do not allow pets. Dog Training: This breed has a high level of intelligence. With the right puppy training, your puppy should be able to learn a variety of tricks. Basic obedience training and socialization are important for a growing Golden puppy. Emergency Medical Treatment: Medical emergencies cannot always be avoided. Of course, these scenarios typically come at a high cost. This breed is recommended to visit a professional groomer once every 8 to 10 weeks. All these potential expenses are optional, except for emergency medical treatment. You can learn how to avoid these fees entirely as you go, which will save you even more money if you want to be practical. Make sure to talk to the breeder before adopting or buying, as not all breeders have the best intention for their puppies. They also raise funds for canine health research. Their puppies are sold with a contract for neutering or spaying as well as a registration from the American Kennel Club. This means that the quality of their dog is in their best interests. Here are some money-saving tips for Golden Retriever owners: Make your own food and treats. Instead of buying store-bought dog food and treats for your Golden, you can learn how to make them yourself. Recommended dog food for the Golden Retriever includes chicken , healthy whole grain meals, approved veggies and fruits, and unseasoned and natural ingredients. Consider home grooming. Grooming a Golden does not have to be a difficult chore. Grooming Golden Retrievers cost a fortune when brought to a professional groomer. Your dog does not require as much grooming as many other breeds. The simple task of brushing and combing their coat will keep shedding under control and the buildup of mats and tangles at bay. Bring them to the vet regularly and keep an eye out for accidents. Because vet bills can be pricey, you must ensure that your Goldie does not suffer from any significant illnesses or injuries. Try training your own dog. Paying for dog trainers may cost you more money. If you do not want to participate in dog shows or contests, it is preferable to train your Golden yourself. This would save you a few bucks while also providing a bonding opportunity for you and your Golden. Choose quality dog supplies. It is recommended that first-time dog owners get high-quality products for their dogs. Choosing a cheaper item may end up costing you more in the long run because you may need to replace it on a regular basis. You can save money where you can, but make sure your Goldie receives the care and attention it deserves. Always remember that a healthy dog is a happy dog. A healthy Golden Retriever is not hard to maintain. With the right mindset, you could keep your pooch in tip-top shape while saving money. Keep in mind that expenses may vary based on the lifestyle you keep for your Golden. By ensuring their good health and condition as well as applying practical money-saving tips, raising a Golden Retriever is not a difficult task. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. One or both of this puppy's parents is OFA Heart certified. This puppy has had early neurological stimulation exercises. It is also important to understand there are different types of golden retrievers which may affect pricing. For example, if you decide to choose the lowest golden retriever cost option, those puppies almost never have the necessary 3rd-party assurances or veterinarian procedures like dewormings, vaccinations, health-tested parents, or a thorough health checkup. These missing costs and services will be your responsibility, making the total cost ultimately the same. Not to mention the added stress on you these extra expenses and issues create! Adopting vs. Please note that depending on the shelter, you may have to pay additional costs for your Golden certain shots and procedures. Depending on if the golden retriever is a boy or a girl may affect the price as well. Some male vs female golden retriever differences may make you prefer one over the other. This will ultimately save you time and money on your golden retriever price because breeders often pay lower veterinary rates than individuals do. Distemper, for example, is a highly contagious disease that attacks the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous systems of dogs. Unfortunately, there is no cure — just a lot of expenses and stress which really adds to the overall cost of your Golden Retriever puppy. It is wise to ask your vet for guidance on this decision. Talk with your vet about the procedure, when you should get it done, and how much it might cost. Dental Care for Your Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers, like many dogs, can be prone to dental issues such as plaque buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. These cleanings typically involve scaling, polishing, and potentially extractions if necessary. Some insurance providers offer optional dental coverage as an add-on or as part of more comprehensive plans. If dental coverage is included in the policy, it typically covers a portion of the costs associated with dental cleanings, extractions, and other necessary dental treatments. This typically includes services such as bathing, brushing, trimming, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and sometimes additional services like de-shedding or dematting. Some groomers may offer package deals or discounts for regular appointments or bundled services. This monthly expense may seem like an additional cost, but it can be a worthwhile investment when considering the potential savings on veterinary bills for treatments, surgeries, and medications. By having pet insurance in place, you can ensure that your Golden Retriever receives the necessary care without straining your finances in the event of unexpected health issues. Puppy Training and Socialization Classes Attending puppy training and socialization classes is highly recommended for the comprehensive development of your Golden puppy. These classes provide structured learning environments, social interaction, and essential obedience training. By enrolling your Golden Retriever puppy in these classes, you ensure they receive the necessary foundation for good behavior, social skills, and overall well-being. The cost for food will depend on the size, age, and activity level of your companion. Fortunately, the cheaper brands of dog food can be just as good as the more premium brands as long as they meet the standards of AAFCO and are made with minimal processing. When making your decision, make sure to avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives where you can, since they could cause health problems for your dog. Puppies cost more than adult or senior Goldens. This holds true for all dog breeds, because there is more demand for puppies than older dogs. Age affects the adoption fee, but it does not reflect the quality of the dog in most cases. This can be thousands of dollars less than a puppy, but this does not discount the love and affection an adult can offer. Surprisingly, this dog comes in more than just gold color varieties. There are also red, cream, brown, and yellow color varieties. There will, very rarely, even be a Golden Retriever that has black-tipped ears or has a black spot on its body. These puppies have cream-colored coats and are very rare. Goldens that have black markings on their coat are often cheaper. A puppy with healthy warranties and pedigree certification will be twice as much as a puppy without them. One of the top health certifications is hip dysplasia screening. Choosing A Breeder Not all breeders put a lot of time, effort, and money into their Golden Retriever puppies. Breeder associated expenses include breeding fees if the breeder does not own both a breeding male and female , breeding license, veterinary care for mom and pups, health tests and certifications, warranty, registration, insurance, whelping and food. Golden Retrievers typically have eight puppies in each litter. Puppies that are bought from pet stores can come from large-scale commercial dog breeding operations i. Commercial dog breeding facilities should be avoided. A chronic lack of space, insufficient nutrition, poor hygiene standards, and routine overbreeding of the dogs are par for the course in puppy mills. This is inhumane and causes a number of serious health issues for the puppies: matted fur; eye, ear, and throat infections, dental problems and severe genetic deformities. So, how do you make sure you adopt a dog from a trustworthy and reputable breeder? One of the first steps you can do is to check the status of a breeder. All puppies sold via this marketplace are purebred, pedigree and health certified. In the United Kingdom, the Kennel Club has a list of approved breeders. All puppies sold via this marketplace are insured, pedigree and health certified. There are a handful of additional factors that also affect a Golden Retriever price. Breeder location is one of them. Certain cities and states enforce breeding regulations and charges. Breeding licenses normally apply to professional breeders who breed more than 20 puppies each year. Home-based breeders can get exemptions. Did you ask the owner where they got it, and how much it cost them? The most often asked question I get by e-mail is how much does a golden retriever puppy cost to purchase. Even more specifically, how much does a golden retriever puppy cost in California? In this article, I will discuss how much a golden retriever can cost and why the variation in prices. Often, but not solely, it depends on the investment the breeder has in the parents as well as the time invested in the pups. A reputable breeder will research their lines extensively. When I research buying a pup from other breeders I check all their certifications, pedigrees, as well as the age of death and whether or not they died of cancer. Purchasing a pup with full rights can be expensive. A breeder generally should get OFA certifications on both parents. Many breeders will get preliminary consults at one year of age which doubles the cost. There are additional tests that breeders can also get for their Goldens. Assuming a breeder owns both parents, the cost for the OFA certifications are doubled. Many breeders show their dogs. The costs of showing are in the thousands of dollars, per dog. AKC shows can cost in the thousands for a single weekend. Many breeders have to travel hundreds of miles, pay for a hotel, pay for groomers, hire handlers, purchase crates, and spend hundreds of dollars for entrance fees. To gain an AKC championship you have to attend multiple shows. Conformation in a show does not mean the dog is healthy. This is an entirely different topic that can open a can of worms. Another cost to a breeder is the cost of the litter occur themselves. When I have puppies, I have a room dedicated in my home to the pups. It is tiled, and has an expensive whelping pen, pads, heaters, toys and so much more. Every day we clean up after the pups multiple times. Cleaning supplies can be expensive. I know many breeders who breed in kennels. They just spray down the kennels with water. The socialization of pups alone is why many breeders I know charge more. It is my opinion those who socialize their pups in their home offer a better quality pup in terms of temperament. Not only does it cost more, but the investment in time is unquantifiable. Lastly, most breeders vaccinate, deworm, microchip, and visit the vet for a puppy well check. God forbid any problem to occur with the mother and a cesarean is needed. Sometimes breeding has unintended consequences. Say a dog fails their certifications or needs unexpected surgery, that investment has to be recuperated somehow. A few years back Ember had to have surgery. She decided to chew on some plastic that got lodged in her stomach. She nearly died and was in the hospital for two weeks. After recovering from surgery, I had all her certifications done, and at the age of 2, she got pyometra. Another 10 grand, and we had to spay her. She never had puppies. Unexpected costs like this make breeding an expensive endeavor. In the long run, the costs to treat those illnesses can far surpass the initial high price of purchasing a healthy pup from a reputable breeder. You may have to work on training more extensively, but it is very rewarding. For a list of Golden Retriever rescues in Southern California click the link. As we discussed throughout this article the price will depend on whether or not you purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder, or a run of the mill breeder trying to turn a quick buck. No matter how much a puppy may cost initially, you have to be ready for the cost of ownership once you are taking care of them. Once the pup is in your home, they should become another child. This oversight, aside from behavioral issues, is one of the biggest cause of pups ending up in a shelter. Research is key. Best of luck on your puppy searching adventure.
Breeds The link has been copied! Are you a devoted dog fan seeking a unique, intelligent, and loyal companion? Meet the Merle Goldendoodle, rapidly gaining popularity among pet parents everywhere! These pooches flaunt memorable coat patterns and gentle temperaments, making them an optimal family addition. Goldendoodles are now in the top five most popular designer dog breeds in the US - and within this breed, Merle Goldendoodles are rapidly gaining attention for their distinct and gorgeous coat hues. But what exactly is a Merle Goldendoodle, and what makes them different from other Goldendoodles? In this comprehensive article, we will explore the fascinating world of Merle Goldendoodles, discussing everything from their temperament and appearance to their health and lifespan. What is Merle Goldendoodle? Merle Goldendoodles are a hybrid canine bred from Golden Retrievers and Poodles, making them one of the most beloved doodle breeds out there. These hybrids boast stunningly unique coat colors, a super friendly demeanor and smarts that come from their parent breeds. The boundless playfulness and love characteristic of a Golden Retriever add to the hypoallergenic coat and intelligence of a Poodle, creating the ultimate pup! Are Merle Goldendoodle Rare? Merle Goldendoodles are far from being considered an uncommon breed, yet they are more of a rarity compared to other Goldendoodle colors. This is because merle is a dominant gene which isn't present in Golden Retrievers, that being the strain blended with Poodle for making the Goldendoodle. Thus, the Merle Goldendoodle is formulated by crossing a Merle Poodle with a Golden Retriever, consequently rendering the genetic pool smaller than that of most other Goldendoodles. It is also essential to keep in mind that while Merle Goldendoodles aren't infrequently encountered, it might cost more than the others owing to the added effort needed to achieve them. Breeding Merle Goldendoodles requires finding two dogs that carry the merle gene and ensuring the production of healthy puppies; implying more thorough health tests and careful breeding methods to avoid illnesses associated with the merle gene. Merle Goldendoodle Coat Types Merle Goldendoodles can have different coat types , depending on whether they inherit more Poodle or Golden Retriever traits. The three main coat types are short or flat, wavy or shaggy, and curly. Let's look at them in detail. In contrast to other Merle Goldendoodles, they boast a smooth and straight coat with a natural sheen. These pups usually require minimal grooming as compared to their counterparts since their coats are much shorter and tend not to get tangled as easily. The short and flat coat Merle Goldendoodle would be an ideal choice for those who prefer low maintenance dogs. While regular brushing is recommended for minimizing loose fur, and preserving the shine and healthiness of its coat, there's no need for frequent grooming. They're also less prone to matting and tangling, which can be common problems among breeds with long coats. Unlike the short or flat coat Merle Goldendoodle, they have coats that are thick and wavy, with a soft, fluffy texture. These dogs require regular grooming and brushing to prevent matting, and their coats may need to be trimmed periodically to keep them from becoming too long. The wavy or shaggy coat of Merle Goldendoodles gives them a charming and lovable appearance that many dog owners find irresistible. These dogs have a coat that ranges in color and pattern from blue merle, red merle, and chocolate merle, to black and other colors. This gives each dog a unique look, which adds to its appeal. While wavy or shaggy coat Merle Goldendoodles require more grooming than the short or flat coat variation, they are still relatively low-maintenance dogs. They only need to be brushed regularly to remove any loose hair and prevent matting. Some owners prefer to have their Merle Goldendoodles professionally groomed to keep their coats looking neat and tidy. These dogs have tightly curled, fluffy coats with a wool-like texture, making them also known as 'fleece coats'. The coat can come in a range of colors and patterns, including blue merle, red merle, chocolate merle, black and many others, similar to the other Merle Goldendoodle variants. The curly coat of the Merle Goldendoodle is eye-catching but requires the most grooming of all the variants. Their coats are prone to matting meaning regular brushing and combing is necessary for keeping their curls looking neat and tidy. Additionally, trimming them more often prevents tangling and matting. Despite their high grooming needs, curly coat Merle Goldendoodles are an extremely popular choice for many dog owners. They are known for their friendly and affectionate nature, and they love spending time with their families. They are intelligent and easy to train, making them a great choice for novice dog owners or families with children. Do Merle Goldendoodles Change Color? The merle gene, which is responsible for the unique marbling and hue of Merle Goldendoodles, can lead to a shift in coat color as these pooches mature. This can be particularly noticeable in Merle Goldendoodle breeds with lighter fur shades, like cream or white. As the pup ages, its coat may darken and become richer, putting the merle pattern in plain sight. Nonetheless, it's worth noting that not all Merle Goldendoodles will morph their fur tone as they age. Some might retain their initial coat shade and pattern for life. Apart from that, color alterations may also be affected by other conditions such as diet, habitat, and overall well-being. It is also worth mentioning that Merle Goldendoodles with a chocolate merle coat may be more prone to color fading, which means that their coat may become lighter and less vibrant over time. This is because the merle gene can sometimes cause the melanin in the dog's coat to break down, resulting in a lighter color. Despite the potential for changes in coat color, Merle Goldendoodles remain a popular choice for dog owners who are drawn to their unique and eye-catching appearance. With proper care and attention, Merle Goldendoodles can live long, happy lives, and continue to bring joy to their owners for many years to come. Merle Goldendoodle Temperament Merle Goldendoodles are adored for their kind, loving, and highly clever personalities. They make outstanding family pets and thrive on attention and partnership with their owners. They're renowned for their mild temperaments and are usually non-aggressive, making them a superb option for households with young children. These pups are readily trainable and enjoy learning new commands and tricks. They're faithful and devoted to their families, and they relish spending time with people. Merle Goldendoodles are also very social dogs who get along well with other animals as well as strangers, though proper socialization and training are imperative to ensure they have positive interactions with other creatures. The personality of the Merle Goldendoodle makes them a hit these days. They're a fantastic pick for households looking for a loving, devoted, and intelligent companion. Plus, their sociable and affable behavior makes them an ideal pick for first-time doggo owners who might want a pup that's easy to train and bond with. Merle Goldendoodle Appearance As mentioned earlier, Merle Goldendoodles are a hybrid of the Golden Retriever and Poodle, meaning their look can differ depending on which parent's traits they've taken after. They usually boast medium-sized builds with strong and muscular bodies that make them great for running, hiking, and playing fetch outdoors. Their heads are usually broad and rounded, making them sociable and approachable. It's common for them to have expressive eyes set well apart—a trait they get from both Golden Retrievers and Poodles. Adding to the uniqueness of their look are their floppy ears that hang down either side; some may even have hair covering their ears. Overall, Merle Goldendoodles are a beautiful and unique breed with an appearance that is sure to turn heads. Merle Goldendoodle Sizes Merle Goldendoodles come in three distinct sizes: standard, medium, and miniature. Standard-sized Merle Goldendoodles typically weigh anywhere between pounds and stand as tall as 24 inches at the shoulder. Medium-sized Merles usually weigh between pounds and reach up to 20 inches tall. And, lastly, a Miniature Merle Goldendoodle can be lbs in weight and reach a maximum height of 15 inches at the shoulder. The size of a Merle Goldendoodle often depends on the size of its poodle parent. For example, a Golden Retriever bred with a Standard Poodle will likely result in larger puppies than those bred with a Miniature Poodle. Generally, the size of a Merle Goldendoodle is also determined by several considerations, including genetics, diet, and exercise. It is noteworthy that standard-sized Merle Goldendoodles are larger and need more room for exercise than the smaller ones. When choosing a Merle Goldendoodle, it's important to consider your lifestyle and living arrangements to determine which size would be the best fit for you and your family. Standard-sized Merle Goldendoodles are great for families with large yards or who live in rural areas, while miniature Merle Goldendoodles are well-suited for apartment living and those who prefer a smaller dog. Blue Merle Goldendoodle Blue Merle Goldendoodles have a beautiful blue-gray coat, often featuring black patches or spots. Some Goldendoodles have solid coats, while others have parti, tuxedo, or abstract markings. On average, Merle Goldendoodles live between 10 to 15 years. However, it is essential to note that, like all breeds of dogs, their lifespan is influenced by various factors such as diet, exercise , genetics, and healthcare. Owners can extend their pet's life expectancy by providing them with high-quality food, regular exercise, and preventative healthcare such as vaccinations and regular vet checkups. Proper care can ensure that your Merle Goldendoodle remains happy and healthy throughout its life. Merle Goldendoodles are generally healthy dogs. However, they may be at risk of developing some health issues that are common in both Golden Retrievers and Poodles. Hip Dysplasia: Hip dysplasia is a common issue among many large breeds, including Goldendoodles. It is caused by the improper development of the hip joint, which can lead to discomfort, arthritis, and mobility issues. Proper exercise, a healthy diet, and regular vet checkups can help identify hip dysplasia early and mitigate its effects. It is essential to have your Merle Goldendoodle's eyes examined regularly to detect early signs of PRA. Allergies: Merle Goldendoodles may be prone to developing allergies, especially if they have inherited this trait from their Poodle parent. Symptoms of allergies may include skin irritation, scratching, and ear infections. If you suspect your Merle Goldendoodle has allergies, consult with a veterinarian. Merle Goldendoodles have low-shedding coats, making them a popular choice for people with allergies. However, the level of shedding can vary depending on the coat type. For example, Merle Goldendoodles with curly coats may shed less than those with wavy or flat coats. Regardless of coat type, regular grooming can help reduce shedding. The average lifespan of a Blue Merle Goldendoodle is 10 to 15 years. They normally live a healthy life but can be subjected to some common health issues, as mentioned below. Ear Infections The Blue Merle Goldendoodle possess droopy ears, due to which they are prone to ear infections as their ears tend to accumulate moisture. As a result, it gives room for bacteria to grow and cause infections. In most cases, ear infection leads to deafness. Common Allergies Like other dog breeds, this designer dog is also prone to the three types of allergies mentioned below. Inhalant allergies are caused by allergens in the air, such as dust or pollen. Food allergies are caused by certain food, so keep your pup in check to see if he is allergic to any food. Contact allergies are caused by chemicals present in flea powders or shampoos. All of these allergies can be treated according to their causes. But, make sure to get in touch with a vet if your dog excessively itches and chews his skin. Bloating This fatal disease commonly affects dogs with broad chests, like Groodles. As a result, your puppy will become lazy, weak, and restless. So, make sure to contact a vet if your pup retches or salivates rapidly. The Blue Merle Goldendoodle is prone to weight gain, so it is necessary to provide proper training and a healthy diet. You just have to train him for 25 to 30 minutes daily to maintain his physical health as they possess moderate energy levels. However, make sure to be gentle with your pup and not be harsh, as scolding will affect his mental health. Moreover, Groodle loves to play in the water, so you can take him out to swim twice a week as a mode of exercise. However, do make sure to feed your Groodle 2 to 4 cups of food daily. It is important to feed your pup at regular intervals instead of letting him enjoy a buffet as it will lead him to overeat. Maintain Good Hygiene It is important to maintain good hygiene of your pup to help him stay fresh and healthy daily. For this purpose, you can go for dental water additives as they fight bad odor and plague, leaving your pup with fresh breath and clean teeth. It is better if you start to leave them alone for short periods and then extend it gradually. Leaving them alone without any prior training will cause your puppy to develop separation anxiety. To give you a comprehensive idea, we have listed some temperaments of these fluff balls. Smart Learners These canines are intelligent from the start and also quick learners. As Blue Merle Goldendoodles share the DNA of energetic dogs, they contribute to every activity enthusiastically and cheerfully. Instead, they are a really calm and easy-going breed. Craziness When these fluff balls get bored, they usually get crazy and more than excited for nothing. The larger-sized Blue Merle Goldendoodles are more destructive and crazy because of their power and antics. However, interestingly, these canines tend to be calm, mostly around babies and young children. Loving And Friendly The Blue Merle Goldendoodle loves to play around with people and gets along great with other pet breeds as well. Moreover, these pups are friendly enough to train them as watchdogs. You would be surprised to know that they tend to befriend a stranger instead of warming them off. So, if you are prone to allergies and still want to get a furry baby, then this Groodle is the right choice. However, there is a misconception that Blue Merle Goldendoodle are high maintenance because of their fancy coats. In reality, their coats can be easily managed if you follow the grooming tips mentioned below. Removes loose hair: reaches through the topcoat to remove loose undercoat hair without cutting skin or damaging the.FURejector button: just push the button to release hair with ease. As a result, he will be left with dry and coarse fur. These cute little puppies are extremely rare and difficult to be bred in merle patterns, and still, it is hard to say that you will get a purebred one. Do Blue Merle Goldendoodles Swim? Yes, Blue Merle Goldendoodles can swim and do so swiftly because these canines are the offspring of two water-loving breeds. Therefore, they inherit their enthusiasm, swimming capability, and, most importantly, love for water from their parents, Golden Retriever and Poodle. The most common but popular color of Goldendoodles is apricot, followed by red , blue, and cream shades. Other than that, the Goldendoodle with shades of sable color is also in quite a demand, but they are not as attractive as the apricot color. No two are ever the same, but there are certain traits that you can expect from different breeds. Some will need more care, some will need more training, and some just need more attention in general. What you look for in your new pet will depend a lot on your own lifestyle and workload, and you must do your research before choosing your new friend. This article will tell you everything you need to know about the Blue Merle Goldendoodle. Is this the breed for you? Read on to find out! What is a Blue Merle Goldendoodle? A Goldendoodle is a blanket name given to a poodle and golden retriever crossbreed. Blue Merles are a little different, though. The patterning comes from a dominant gene, which will often suppress some of the solid color of the other parent. To breed a Blue Merle you should have one merle parent, and either a poodle or a regular Goldendoodle. This is rare, however. How Different is a Blue Merle Goldendoodle? There are a lot of traits that the two types share. You can also expect a more intense personality if your Goldendoodle has any border collie in them. This is again at least partially thanks to their herding nature. There is, of course, a poodle parent no matter what. This is a factor that is not going to change. Poodles are hypoallergenic, and this will be passed on at least partially to any offspring. This makes Goldendoodles, Aussiedoodles, or anything else that comes from a poodle a pretty good choice for people who suffer from allergies. This is one of the things that makes them so appealing to people. That, and how insanely cute they are. As with other Goldendoodles, you can also expect the size to vary. The best way to gauge how big yours will be is to know the size of the parents. They also happen to be beautiful. This beauty comes at a price, however. When it comes to grooming, Blue Merle Goldendoodles are sometimes a little easier to handle than those that just have golden retriever and poodle in them, but their coats will still need a fair amount of care. This care can make them a more time-consuming breed, especially when their high energy levels and extra playtime is also factored in. You should also be sure to keep their ears clean. All dogs should be fed good diets of high-quality food, but the coats of these stunning dogs may call for a little extra something to keep them healthy. If you want their fur to keep shining and stay nice and soft, get them plenty of omega fatty acids. Fish such as sardines are a very good source of this. Making sure they get good food will also help prevent health issues and keep them in your life far longer. Keeping them active is a very important part of their care. This breed will not do well if it only gets one short walk a day, minimal playtime, and is left alone for extended periods. Stop them from going crazy by making sure you entertain them properly and tire them out regularly. They may be high in energy and require a lot of attention, but many people like to have those traits in their dog. If they are properly treated and taught correctly they are unlikely to bite, which is always a big plus. They also have a relatively low prey drive. Blue Merle Goldendoodles are considered social dogs. You should make sure they get to play with other dogs by meeting up with friends who also love doggos, or taking them to dog parks where they can run around off-leash and make new pals. Yes, they are considered to be a child-friendly breed. It should be stressed again, though, that dogs have to be taught and treated correctly. Just because this breed is considered to be tame, does not mean they definitely are. Every dog is different, even if they are of the same type, and parents should never leave their small children alone with them. Do Blue Merle Goldendoodles bark a lot? No, Blue Merle Goldendoodles are not considered to be particularly vocal dogs. Are Blue Merle Goldendoodles expensive dogs? As always, try and go for a rescue dog if you can, but Blue Merle Goldendoodles are quite rare. If your heart is set on this breed, they may be hard to find without a breeder. Always make sure the breeder uses good practice, especially in this case. Certain merle genetic combinations can cause major problems. Are there any health problems to worry about? Unfortunately, there are. Because of the dominance of the merle gene, two merle dogs should not be bred together. The double merle can make them deformed, or lead to them being blind or deaf. This is why a merle-patterned dog must be bred with a poodle or a regular Goldendoodle, and not another dog similar to itself. Will a Blue Merle Goldendoodle be okay with my cat? They are not considered to be good dogs for houses with cats, unlike normal Goldendoodles. Conclusion So, will a Blue Merle Goldendoodle make a good pet for you? Related Posts:. On average, the merle Goldendoodle should weigh between 13 to 80 pounds and should have a height range between 7 to 25 inches. The standard-sized merle Goldendoodle should weigh between 45 to 80 pounds. It can grow between 22 to 25 inches tall. They are the tallest and heaviest merle Goldendoodles you can find. The medium-sized Goldendoodle should be next in size. It should weigh between 30 to 45 pounds and should have a height between 17 to 21 inches. The next should be the miniature-sized Goldendoodle. These usually are small varieties that weigh between 16 to 30 pounds. Their height range is usually between 13 to 16 inches. Smaller sizes like the petite Goldendoodle can be bred from miniature-sized Goldendoodles. They can weigh between 11 to 15 pounds and can grow as tall as 11 to 12 or 13 inches. The Smallest size, which is the teacup merle Goldendoodles, would be super rare. Their height should be lower than 11 inches and they should weigh less than 11 pounds. Most Popular Color Variations of the Merle Goldendoodle As stated earlier, the Merle gene of the Goldendoodle alters the coat pattern of the Goldendoodle and not the color. As such, the merle Goldendoodle can come in a variety of coat colors. A few of these coat colors are; 1. Blue Merle Goldendoodle Blue Merle Goldendoodle The blue merle Goldendoodle is obtained from breeding a blue merle Poodle with a Golden Retriever or breeding a blue merle Goldendoodle with another Goldendoodle of solid coat color. It features a merle pattern but with a light blue base coat that gives the puppy a more marbling look. Getting a blue merle Goldendoodle is easier said than done. The color is very rare and due to the overall aesthetics of the puppies, they are in high demand. Chocolate Merle Goldendoodle Chocolate Merle Goldendoodle The chocolate merle Goldendoodle should bear similarities with the blue merle Goldendoodle except it has a chocolate coat base color and these dogs are often gotten from the Poodle parent. Phantom Merle Goldendoodles Phantom Merle Goldendoodle Phantom merle Goldendoodles come in 2 colors in a merle pattern while being in specific locations like the eyebrows, and chest. Muzzle, lower legs, and even the ears of the Goldendoodles. The two coat colors are often brown or black and the merle pattern is existent on their coat. They usually have a reddish brown base color and the signature merle pattern that makes these Goldendoodles very beautiful. Black Merle Goldendoodle Black merle Goldendoodles are also rare but not as rare as the rest. They are the most likely to possess the fading gene and fade into a light silver or gray color. They feature a black base coat and a rich merle pattern that is simply beautiful. Merle Goldendoodles are prone to certain health conditions which would be discussed in detail later in this article. However, if bred, raised, and cared for properly, the merle Goldendoodle should live the average lifespan of a regular Goldendoodle. This should be between 10 to 15 years. But there are a number of factors that can affect this, so it is worth noting that this is just general speculation. They are incredibly smart as they are often a mix of dog breed genes. The high intelligence that comes with being an offspring of the Poodle breed makes the merle Goldendoodle easily trainable. When training the merle Goldendoodle, it is worth stating that you can get a lot more achieved faster with positive reinforcement than you would with negative training techniques or tips. Instead of shouting or raising your voice at the puppy, give it a stern look and a light tap on its head. It should be able to understand the message. Goldendoodles in general also require a lot of exercise and merle Goldendoodles are no exception. You would need to keep them regularly exercised to get rid of the excess and intense energy that they are prone to. If left unexercised, that intense energy merle Goldendoodles and all Goldendoodles, in general, are prone to can easily become destructive, especially in apartments and smaller homes. It is recommended that you take your dog each day for a walk. You can also try to make out time for your puppies to keep them occupied. You can make use of a hired help or trainer to do it for you, or you can make the effort to do it yourself this a better choice as it helps you build better relationships with your furry friend and companion. This is where the merle Goldendoodle differs from other Goldendoodles. They have a higher propensity for developing genetic defects than regular Goldendoodles. As such you have to be careful when breeding them. Here are some of the possible health defects that your merle Goldendoodle might be exposed to. Deafness It is possible for a merle Goldendoodle puppy to suffer from deafness either partial or total. This is caused by the merle gene and it often happens on the side of the ear where the merle pattern is most dominant. Blindness Another common problem that can come from improper breeding of merle puppies is blindness. It can come from birth or develop as the puppy matures. Merle Goldendoodles born with blue eyes most likely suffer from this condition. Bloating Bloating for Goldendoodles can be very severe and life-threatening. It is a terrible condition that occurs in merle Goldendoodles and appears as excess air or swelling of the stomach. It can be very painful and requires immediate medical attention. It is a hormonal disorder that can lead to a weakened immune system. It can also cause weight loss for your dogs and even certain skin defects. Alopecia Color dilution Alopecia color dilution can be quite severe for merle Goldendoodles. It is a skin condition that could result in a Goldendoodle losing parts of its fur, making them bald in the long run. For merle Goldendoodles, the dog loses its fur at areas of the body where the merle patch exists. The shedding propensity of your Goldendoodle or how much your Goldendoodle shed depends on the coat type of your Goldendoodle. For the merle Goldendoodle, it depends on the coat type. Merle Goldendoodles with curly or wavy fur are known to be low to non-shedding Goldendoodles. They are practically hypoallergenic and are safe around people with dog hair allergies. However, merle Goldendoodles with the short and flat coat type are more likely to shed than the other Goldendoodle coat types. They require less grooming as they can easily shed their fur. But it is important to state that merle Goldendoodles with a flat and short hair coat type are still fewer shedders than Golden Retrievers in general. How Much Are Merle Goldendoodles? Merle Goldendoodles are super rare, and as such, they can be quite expensive to purchase. Their rare color and difficulty in breeding are what cause the high cost of getting one. For rarer merle Goldendoodles like the blue merle, it might cost a bit more. This is a very difficult Goldendoodle puppy to breed, and its health defects can be quite bad. So forget the high cost and ensure you obtain your Goldendoodle puppy from a reputable breeder. Merle Goldendoodle Puppies For Sale 1. A merle Goldendoodle is a popular crossbreed between a Poodle and a Golden Retriever, which has a specific coat pattern called merle. These Doodle dogs are very popular due to their striking shades of black, brown, or a combination of the two. Are they any different than a regular Goldendoodle? No, merle Goldendoodles are the same as regular Goldendoodles. The Poodle-Golden Retriever mix has a variety of different coat colors. Some Goldendoodles have one solid color, such as apricot Goldendoodles, white Goldendoodles, brown Goldendoodles, etc. Other Goldendoodles may have unique coats like brindle, parti, or merle. However, a merle Goldendoodle and a parti Goldendoodle are the same breed. So, how do merles get their gorgeous coats? The extent of these shades and patches depends on genetics. For example, a young dog with a salt-and-pepper appearance has the genetics for black coat color and merle coat pattern. Dilute is where the hair color is lightened. This type of color genetics also appears in cattle, sheep, and cats, to name a few. It only means that if it can produce colored hair, it will show up in a shade of either black or brown. For different shades, there are three genes involved. The first is dilution or dd. Black dogs or red dogs such as black Goldendoodles or red Goldendoodles will have DD genetics, allowing for full expression of the color in all its rich shades. However, a dog with dilute genetics, or dd, will produce a lighter shade of the color. This gives you a dog that is born charcoal grey or tan. A dog that also has ii genetics will often be lighter. Depending on the depth of dilution, this could be coloring such as silver, fawn, or cream. Roxy, a gorgeous blue merle phantom Goldendoodle image: roxythemerledoodle. On the other hand, a dog that is GG will start black or dark grey and then continue to lighten as they mature. This differs from geriatric graying of an aging dog, which is caused by loss of eumelanin production and is typically limited to the face. One additional gene, A, is the agouti gene. It has two different appearances. One controls the color appearing on the back versus the belly, while the other controls the pattern of color on individual hairs. A dog with black on its back and tan underneath is one type of aa. A dog that has light hair with dark tips is another type of aa. This includes the sable color e. Tyrosinase, or albinism, is a genetic mutation that prevents pigment from forming at all and is often seen in some white dogs that often have red or pale blue eyes and completely pink skin. Other types of spots are due to mutations in this gene and others. This includes masks, points, piebald, flashy spotting, brindle, ticked, roan, and dalmatian spotting. Harlequin creates amazing spotting patterns found only in Great Danes with one or two merle genes in addition to a single H gene. Great Danes are the only breed that has the true harlequin gene [2] doggenetics. This means that no matter what you read, there is no such thing as a harlequin Goldendoodle. Great Dane with a harlequin merle coat. Now that we understand the color and marking genetics, the merle gene provides an interesting scientific study. Merle is passed on by the M locus, with non-merle being a double mm. The double mm is considered recessive genes. What this means, in plain English, is that additional genetic code is inserted into a specific location on the M locus. It will appear only in their offspring if passed onto a puppy with another M gene. Even then, it will be faint. This explains why we might have cryptic merle Goldendoodles and phantom merle Goldendoodles. At higher insertion lengths, more marked patterns will appear. With one copy of the atypical merle locus, the dog will have no to slight merle markings, while two copies will look like a regular Mm merle pattern in many cases [3] doggenetics. These should never breed to dogs that have longer alleles to avoid the chance of health problems in puppies. A merle or M has an allele insertion length of , providing the usual merle coat pattern in an Mm dog. However, two Mm dogs have a chance of producing an MM or double-merle puppy, which can have significant health problems. This type of breeding should be avoided. A harlequin merle or Mh has the longest allele insertion length between and may also be referred to as a herding harlequin in some breeds. This type of breed will often have large white or pale grey patches. This happens because the strength of the genetic expression removes some of the darker coloring while retaining the merle pattern. This type of genetics must be bred to unmerled, or Mc, dogs to prevent the risk of severe health problems in puppies. How Can a Goldendoodle be Merle? As a cross between Poodles and Golden Retrievers, merle Goldendoodles get their merle genetics from the Poodle. But many breeders, and Poodle-fanatics, believe that there is no such thing as a merle Poodle. An intentional genetic bottleneck caused the merle genes in Poodles. Columbias, prior to the Industrial Revolution, came in all colors, as the primitive Shetland breed still does. But as chemical dyes replaced natural dyes in the Industrial Revolution, wool merchants began demanding white sheep so that the dye would present the same color across all the wool they had purchased. Sheep farmers began breeding for white sheep. This is how the concept of a black sheep being a bad thing came into practice. Similarly, at one point in the history of the Poodle breed , colored Poodles were considered defective. However, as our appreciation of the breed and understanding of genetics has increased, more breeders have begun breeding for specific colors and merle patterns. If safely done, intentional breeding provides us with a beautiful, natural range of animals that were nearly bred out of existence. After crossbreeding with Golden Retrievers to create the Goldendoodle breed, more color has been added to their genetic pool. Goldendoodles have a massive range of fantastic coat colors and patterns [4] valaurahfarms. It is not uncommon to come across all sorts of colors and patterns in this designer dog: Blue Goldendoodles. What Is A Merle Goldendoodle? A Merle Goldendoodle has a rare coat pattern which features mottled patches of various colors depending on whether they are a blue or chocolate red merle. The merle gene also affects eye color and skin pigmentation on the nose and paws. That is not to say that all Merle Goldendoodles are the result of poor breeding practices or that they will have these health issues but there is a higher risk than an ordinary Goldendoodle. Golden Retrievers do not carry the merle gene so you can only create Merle Goldendoodles by breeding a Merle Poodle with a Golden Retriever. There is a lot of debate as to whether Merle Poodles are purebred. The Merle gene is only naturally present in a small number of breed such as the Australian Shepherd, Great Dane and some other herding breeds. Because of this many people suspect that another breed was introduced into the Poodle lineage to create the merle coat. There may be a small percentage of another breed in the mix. It also affects skin pigmentation, resulting in light pink patches on their nose and paws. While these changes can occur for Goldendoodles, in most cases than not, Merle Goldendoodles will still have dark brown or hazel eyes and will have a jet black or brown nose. The difference between a Blue Merle and a Chocolate Merle Goldendoodles is that a Blue Merle is a black Goldendoodle with a merle pattern while a Chocolate Merle is a liver brown Goldendoodle with a merle pattern. They would have originally had a solid black coat but the merle gene diluted it into this pattern. Chocolate Merle Goldendoodle Chocolate Merle Goldendoodles feature a chocolate, copper, beige and white coat in a mottled pattern. Most of their coat is a beige-grey and they feature chocolate, white and copper patches throughout it. Chocolate Merle Goldendoodles have light or dark brown noses. In most cases they have light brown eyes however they can sometimes have blue or greenish eyes. Merle Goldendoodles are very rare. Only the Poodle can carry the merle gene and it is very rare if they do. It is extremely unlikely for a Merle Poodle to pass on the merle gene to a Goldendoodle. This includes ocular defeats and auditory issues — especially for Double Merles. Responsibly bred Merle Goldendoodles can be just as healthy as Goldendoodles that have a solid color. These dogs are at a highnrisk of suffering from severe ocular and auditory defects. They also usually have no color in their coats and are totally white. Merle Goldendoodle Price Merle Goldendoodles are the most expensive coat color as they are extremely rare. Make sure you purchase a Merle Goldendoodle from a reputable breeder as merle breeds can suffer from many health issues.

Boxweiler Highlights Boxweilers are mixed breed dogs. They are not purebreds like their Boxer or Rottweiler parents The main colors of the Boxweiler coats are fawn, black, brindle, white, and brown. Sometimes their coats are solid, and sometimes they have a mix of colors. These pups have short coats, though they are still moderate shedders. They are not hypoallergenic dogs. Boxweilers need at least one good half-hour- to hour-long walk per day with a few good, active play sessions and shorter walks mixed in. The Boxweiler may prefer to be mostly around adults and older kids who know how to play gently. Boxweilers can be stubborn sometimes but are highly intelligent and can be easy to house train if you are energetic and consistent with their training. They can make great guardians or watchdogs of the household. Boxweiler History The Boxweiler is believed to have been bred sometime in the s by crossing Boxers and Rottweilers together. What we do know is that both the Boxer and Rottweiler breeds have great histories. The ancestors of modern Boxers were used for many tasks, from hunting to guarding and herding cattle. This breed served as messenger dogs in World War I, carrying supplies and acting as guard and attack dogs. Rotties were often used to pull carts and served as guard dogs. Boxweilers are fairly likely to inherit many of the traits that have made their parent breeds so revered throughout history. The Rottweiler was inducted later in .Boxweiler Size As the Boxweiler is a mixed breed, there are few standards when it comes to its size. That said, as a mix between Boxer and Rottweiler parents, you can expect the Boxweiler to be on the larger side. Most weigh in at 70 to pounds and range in height from 21 to 27 inches at the shoulder. However, many can be smaller or larger than normal. Boxweiler Personality Boxweilers are very loving and loyal dogs with lively personalities. This usually means they love running around and playing games like fetch with their pet parents. Even with their high energy, they are also affectionate and love to cuddle inside the house with their human counterparts. These large pooches are working dogs and enjoy fulfilling that purpose in one way or another. That means they can make great guardians or watchdogs of the household. They will bark or alert their owners at the first sign of trouble. These dogs do best with early training to curb any unwanted bad habits. They can be stubborn sometimes but are highly intelligent and can be easy to house train if you are energetic and consistent with their training. They also tend to latch on to one family member most of all, though they can get along with others in the house. The Boxweiler may be best suited for larger families with larger homes rather than small apartments. Boxweiler Health The Boxweiler mixed breed is predisposed to some of the same conditions that the Boxer and the Rottweiler also face. While most are generally healthy, some may be prone to a few health issues, which is why it is important to maintain good care and regular veterinary checkups. Some of the more common health problems Boxweilers suffer from include: joint dysplasia. Lifespan Sociability The Boxweiler is a very active, high-energy dog whose intelligence allows for relatively easy training as long as it is done with consistency and patience. They enjoy a good cuddle as much as running after a ball and playing fetch. They are healthy dogs overall but having an understanding of some of the conditions that the parent breeds are susceptible to, will help you understand your dog as it ages. While they are not aggressive dogs, they are wary of strangers and other animals, so proper socialization as puppies is essential. The Boxweiler tends to gain weight and needs plenty of exercise. The Boxweiler will only drool depending on which parent it takes after. The Rottweiler tends to drool, whereas the Boxer does not. If the Boxweiler is more alike to the Boxer parent , it is less likely to drool, but if it takes after the Rottweiler parent, it could be a drooler. The Boxweiler may prefer to be the only pet in the household. If the Boxweiler is properly socialized as a puppy with other pets, they will accommodate and adapt well with other animals. However, the Boxweiler is a herding dog and will instinctively chase other animals, and therefore the household might benefit from keeping the Boxweiler as the only pet. If they are kept busy and not left alone for long periods, the Boxweiler will grow into a happy and well-adjusted dog that will make an excellent family pet. However, the Boxweiler would do best with older children that know how to play gently with this large dog. Children should be taught how to approach dogs in a gentle and non-threatening manner so the dog will feel comfortable and become an eager and energetic companion. The Boxweiler more than likely will have the same instincts and therefore, will do best in a home as the only pet. However, if properly socialized as a puppy, they could adapt to living with other pets, including cats. They might have a predisposition to gain weight, so following a strict schedule and not leaving food out throughout the day would work best. Coming from the Rottweiler and the Boxer, which are both working dogs, the Boxweiler needs to be kept busy with walks and play. Allowing these large dogs room to run in a yard makes them less suitable for apartments. Training should be accomplished with persistence and firmness tempered with praise and positive reinforcement. Consistent training and lots of socialization, while they are puppies, is critical. Trimming nails carefully, cleaning ears , and brushing teeth are all common grooming habits every dog needs to keep them healthy. Brushing their teeth regularly to avoid dental issues combined with frequent grooming will also help your dog to maintain its health. Minor Conditions Rottweilers might experience hypothyroidism , lower eyelid droop , cataracts and allergies. While Boxers are also susceptible to hypothyroidism, they are also prone to bowel disease and corneal erosion. Serious Conditions The Rottweiler is prone to hip dysplasia , bone cancer , heart disease and bloat or stomach dilatation. The Boxer might also experience hip dysplasia, heart disease, as well as bloat or stomach dilation like the Rottweiler, but are also susceptible to irregular heartbeat and occasional problems with spinal cord disease and brain tumors. The Boxweiler has the potential to inherit some of these health issues from its parents. Therefore, the vet will check for joint dysplasia, heart disease, bone cancer, and bloat. Male vs Female Most dog breeds have minor physical differences between male and female puppies. Like most species, the females tend to be a little lighter and smaller than the males. It is thought that females tend to be less aggressive and more affectionate than the males, but this subject is up for debate. The choice of using your dog for breeding purposes will make a difference as well between the male and the female. Most dogs become calmer and less aggressive or less energetic after surgery. The primary differences between all dogs, regardless of the sex, are based on how the puppies have been raised and socialized. Final Thoughts on the Boxweiler The Boxweiler is a beautiful, loyal, intelligent, and energetic hybrid of the Rottweiler and Boxer. A firm but kind and gentle hand is the best way to handle these large and sensitive dogs. Properly socializing them to smaller animals and children, while they are puppies, will give them the best possible outcome. Online discussions through social media or attending dog shows and contacting local and national dog clubs could provide you with further assistance. Rottweiler Boxer mix puppies What is a Boxweiler? The Boxweiler is a mixed breed dog with one Rottweiler parent and one Boxer dog parent. They are usually bred as pet dogs, but also have a rich working history on both sides of the family. It was added to the American Kennel Club registry in .The Rottweiler is a working dog, used throughout history for bear hunting, police work, cattle herding, and even to pull carriages for passengers. It is descended from the Tibetan line of Mastiff which in turn was a descendent of the Molossus. A full grown Boxweiler will typically weigh between 60 and 80 pounds — although reaching up to lbs is not unheard of. They are typically happy, healthy pups with an average lifespan of 8 to 13 years. As for physical appearance, the breed can take on characteristics of either parent. So, it can end up looking like either parent breed. The one, mostly uniform characteristic is a large, square head. The Rottweiler has a stocky, muscular body, while the Boxer has a lean, muscular build. A Boxweiler could take on either of these body types, or somewhere in between. Their colorings vary, but are almost always a shade of brown. Mixed brown and black spots are also possible. And they will sometimes have a white splotch on their chest or belly. Boxers are more prone to heart conditions, cancers, hypothyroidism, hip dysplasia, and degenerative myelopathy. Rottweilers are more prone to eye problems like cataracts, heart problems, gastroenteritis, hypothyroidism, and other conditions. Since both breeds have a tendency for heart problems, this should be one of the primary concerns for new Boxweiler parents. Several heart conditions are possible, but the most serious is probably Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy. A condition that can be fatal. Weight gain is another common issue with this breed. Rottweiler Boxer mix dogs can put on weight quickly. If not exercised enough or if overfed, they can become overweight. Canine obesity can also increase the risk of other health problems, particularly relating to the heart. Some other potential health issues. These include joint dysplasia, hip dysplasia , allergies, mange, pano, cancer, heart defects, bloat, eye problems, and deafness. Are mixed breeds healthier? Some claim that pedigree, purebred breeds are superior due to their consistency and predictability. On the other side of the aisle, many breeders and fans of the crossbreed claim that there are significant benefits to designer dogs. There are some legitimate potential health issues with purebred dogs. These are often caused by years of inbreeding — which can sometimes be reduced through cross breeding. Cross breeding advocates claim that there can be some benefits to genetic diversity in dog breeds. Ultimately, it all comes down to the breeding process, the knowledge of the breeder, and the genetics of the parents. Certain cross breeds are prone to specific behavioral and health issues, but the same could be said for certain purebred dogs. The biggest consideration is the energy level of these dogs. Boxweilers need regular exercise, at least twice per day. They also should have plenty of space to move around, so a small apartment is likely not suitable for this breed. Beyond that, consider the fact that Boxweilers are prone to separation anxiety. If you work long hours and will need to leave your dog alone all day, this breed is probably not going to be the best choice. Overall, the Boxweiler is a friendly and social breed. Boxweilers are protective without being overly aggressive. They can make very good guard dogs and will not hesitate to protect your family should the need arise. Prospective Boxweiler parents should weigh the pros and cons of the breed — including potential health problems — before making their decision. An experienced breeder will know the proper techniques for breeding healthy, happy dogs. They will likely test the parents for potential health problems, which helps to reduce the risk of health concerns in the puppies. When you locate a breeder, ask to see any health certificates or test results that they have for the parents. It could have been treated poorly or abused, which could translate to aggression or unwanted behavior. With that said, every dog deserves a good home. If you are willing to adopt and accept the risks, we encourage it. References and Further Reading Malm et al. However, for the right family, the Boxweiler can make a wonderfully playful, and dedicated companion. They love to run around and play as much as they love to cuddle on the couch at the end of the day. The Boxweiler is a large dog descended from two breeds who were originally hunting dogs so they may not be the best choice if you have other smaller pets. They do not do well in a small apartment or when left alone for a long time. They love games like fetch and chasing a ball. The Boxweiler also enjoys long walks and time outside with their family. If you have a large, fenced yard and a family that likes being outside, that would be perfect for a Boxweiler. Mental exercise is also important for this breed. They are intelligent and need mental stimulation. Interactive games and food puzzles are perfect choices to keep their brain active. There is a slight tendency to be stubborn, but an experienced trainer can overcome this obstacle and bring out the best in your Boxweiler. They like to please their owners and enjoy the challenge that learning new commands provides them with. The Boxweiler must receive training from puppyhood as they are large dogs who need some discipline and training to ensure they will be great pets. Their coat is short and requires brushing once or twice per week, perhaps more frequently during shedding seasons. Rottweilers do drool frequently, so if your Boxweiler takes after their Rottweiler parent, they may do so as well. Occasional baths may be helpful if your dog begins to smell. The Boxer Rottweiler mix has a temperament that is a combination of both its parents. Protective and loyal, they have an alert nature that makes them wonderful watchdogs. These pups respond best to positive reinforcement techniques such as clicker training or reward-based teaching methods. With consistent commands, boundaries, and rules set out by their owner, these energetic pooches will bring lots of fun into your home. Training should start as soon as possible to ensure good habits develop while still young; this will help prevent any unwanted behaviors from appearing later on in life. As we move on to discussing aggression levels in this crossbreed, remember how important it is to show patience when training your pup. Boxer Rottweiler — Aggression Levels When it comes to Boxer Rottweiler mixes, their aggression levels can vary greatly. It is important for owners of this breed to understand the potential risks associated with a dog that has been bred from two aggressive breeds. Although they may not be as naturally aggressive as either parent breed, there is still the possibility of them taking after one or both parents in terms of temperament and personality. With proper training and mental exercise, however, these tendencies can be managed. This includes engaging activities such as fetching games, agility courses, and interactive toys which will help keep them mentally stimulated while also helping build a strong bond between owner and pet. With patience and dedication on behalf of the owner, these furry friends can become loving members of your family despite their potentially aggressive natures. Through ongoing reinforcement and reward-based learning techniques, owners can foster an environment where even the most difficult behaviors can be addressed in an effective manner. From here we turn our attention toward another aspect of Boxer Rottweiler mixes — appearance and features. The Boxer Rottweiler mix is a medium-sized dog with an average height of 20 to 24 inches and a weight of between 50 and 90 lbs. Its coat can range from short and smooth to longer, denser fur depending on which parent breed provides more of its genetic makeup. Its dense coat will protect it from cold temperatures so even during winter months it enjoys outdoor activities. This pup needs daily physical activity and mental stimulation to keep them healthy and happy. Going for regular walks around the neighborhood is a great way to start exercising your pup. Taking part in agility classes or teaching new tricks are some easy ways to give your furry friend the mental stimulation they need while having fun at the same time! The Boxer Rottweiler mix is an intelligent breed, and it requires mental stimulation throughout the day. This could mean playing games like hide-and-seek or fetch with your pup. You can also try teaching new tricks or commands using positive reinforcement techniques such as treats and praise. This breed loves spending time with its owners and wants to please them at all costs. Socialization is just as important since this will help your pup learn how to interact with other people and animals without becoming overly aggressive or fearful. With proper guidance from you, these pups can grow into loving companions who bring joy and laughter into your home. To ensure success during training sessions, always stay patient and consistent while implementing rewards for good behavior. Your pup may take some time before truly understanding what you expect from them, but eventually, they will comprehend the rules of your household better if taught properly right away. Moving forward, socializing and providing ample amounts of mental stimulation will further strengthen the bond between you and your Boxer Rottweiler mix companion! Training And Socialization With the right mental stimulation, training, and socialization are just as important for a Boxer-Rottweiler mix. An active owner who is willing to give their pup plenty of exercise and companionship will be essential in helping them develop healthy habits. If done correctly, this breed can learn basic commands very quickly; however, patience is required when teaching advanced behaviors like agility or tracking. Being bred from two highly active breeds means that good physical outlets must be found to keep your Boxer-Rottie mix happy and healthy. Taking long walks, hikes or even swimming can help fulfill their natural desire to explore new areas while getting enough exercise at the same time. Additionally, engaging games such as fetch or tug-of-war provide quality bonding time while stimulating their minds. With consistent training and socialization plus lots of love and attention, these pooches have the potential to become excellent family pets! It may be argued that mixed breeds are not as intelligent as purebred canines, but this is simply not true. In addition to being bright and capable, these pups also benefit from having two distinct genetic pools which serve to amplify their natural traits — allowing for more diverse behaviors than would otherwise be possible in one breed alone. This means that your pet will likely develop into an individual with unique abilities, quirks, and preferences! These dogs are fiercely loyal and protective of their families when it comes to defending them against danger or perceived threats. When raised properly these crossbreeds make great pets; however, without proper training early on, destructive behavior could become an issue as well. It is important to ensure that you have enough time to devote to consistent training and socializing exercises starting from puppyhood until adulthood. By providing adequate physical activity and quality playtime each day along with regular visits to the vet, owners will find themselves rewarded with a devoted companion who will love them unconditionally. This makes the extra effort worth it! Barking Tendencies When it comes to barking tendencies, a Boxer Rottweiler mix can be both a blessing and a curse. This beloved breed is known for being full of energy, which definitely shows itself in its bark! But how loud are they? Barking level: Boxer Rottweiler mixes are considered medium-to-high barkers; while they may not constantly yodel throughout the day, their enthusiasm will certainly show when something exciting happens or if someone approaches the house. Speech pattern: They tend to have short barks with a distinctive growl underneath — this combination makes them sound quite intimidating at times! Instincts: Being part Rottweiler, these dogs have strong protective instincts that often come out through excessive barking. That said, proper training can help mitigate this issue. Activity needs: As energy breeds, Boxer Rottweilers need plenty of daily exercise in order to stay happy and healthy — an hour each day should do the trick. While some owners find themselves frustrated by the amount of noise their pup makes, others simply embrace it as part of having such lively canine companions around. No matter your stance on barking, knowing what to expect ahead of time will make life much easier down the line. Drooling Potential Although some breeds are known to be slobbery and prone to frequent or excessive salivating, this hybrid is typically not one of them. Generally speaking, they do not tend to drool much at all, as their mouths close tightly when relaxed. This can make them great house pets in terms of cleanliness around furniture and floors — but keep in mind that no two dogs are identical! It is important to note that if your Boxer Rottweiler mix has any hip dysplasia issues, then it may have an increased tendency to drool due to pain caused by movement or lack thereof. If you notice more than normal saliva production coming from your pet, took for signs of discomfort like limping or favoring a certain side. If you find any cause for concern with regard to health, take them to see a vet immediately. When it comes to Boxer-Rottweiler mixes and children, the answer is generally yes. These dogs can be incredibly loving family members when they are socialized early on with kids. That being said, they do require a bit of extra supervision because of their size and strength. Early socialization is key for this breed so look into puppy classes or similar activities before bringing your pup home. This breed needs plenty of exercise and activity in order to stay healthy; daily walks plus mental stimulation like puzzle toys or trick training are essential. Overall, Boxer-Rottweiler mixes can make very good companions for households with children provided there is proper supervision and care given by the owners. With patience and dedication, these dogs can fit right in with any family dynamic — making everyone happy! Boxer-Rottweiler mixes make loyal and loving family pets. As long as they are properly trained and socialized from an early age, they can get along well with other dogs. In addition to proper training and supervision, providing plenty of mental stimulation for your pup will also help him stay calm when interacting with others. With the right amount of love, care, exercise, and attention these dogs provide to their owners in return; they make great companions for those looking for a loyal canine companion who loves being part of the family dynamic. The Boxer Rottweiler mix is a popular dog breed, so grooming needs should be considered when determining whether this pet would be the right fit for you. The good news is that they have low-shedding coats and are relatively easy to groom. However, regular brushing sessions are still required in order to keep their coat healthy and prevent any tangles or mats from forming. This hybrid breed sports a short-haired coat with lots of volume which gives off an eye-catching look but also means oil accumulation on the skin may occur faster if not taken care of properly. Moving onto nutrition and feeding. A high-quality dry kibble is generally the preferred choice for this breed, but you can also add some fresh ingredients like brown rice or vegetables in moderation. When selecting food for your puppy, look for one with at least 18 percent protein content from animal sources. You should also choose an age-appropriate formula specifically designed for large breeds since these dogs grow quickly and need extra calories during this period of rapid development. Lastly, make sure any treats you give your dog are low in fat and sugar — try something natural like freeze-dried liver instead! Nutrition plays an integral role in the well-being of all living creatures, especially those adorable Boxer Rottweiler mixes! Health Problems The Boxer Rottweiler mix can inherit health issues from either or both of their parent breeds. Boxers are prone to certain health problems such as heart issues, hip dysplasia, and certain cancers. Whereas Rottweilers are prone to hip dysplasia, certain cancers, and eye problems. Additionally, responsible breeders should screen their dogs for any genetic health issues and provide documentation of those screenings to potential puppy buyers. Lifespan The lifespan of a Boxer Rottweiler mix can vary depending on several factors, including genetics, diet, exercise, and lifestyle. On average, the lifespan of this mix is between 9 to 12 years. By providing your Boxer Rottweiler mix with proper care, regular veterinary check-ups, and a healthy lifestyle, you can help them live a long and happy life. Puppy Prices Prices for Boxer Rottweiler mixes vary depending on a number of factors and the puppy you are getting. Additionally, adopting a Boxer Rottweiler mix from a rescue or shelter can be a more affordable option.
golden retriever puppy first heat cycle - Conclusions I asked the experts — when to start grooming a Goldendoodle? While I had a fair idea of when I would first start grooming a Goldendoodle puppy — I decided to ask the experts! I sent the following short survey to four Poodle Mix breed groomers, two Goldendoodle breeders, and 8 actual Goldendoodle owners. I then ran a poll on a Goldendoodle owner Facebook group and verified the results were consistent. There were four simple questions that we asked to find out when to start grooming a Goldendoodle Puppy. How old should a Goldendoodle be for first grooming What age should a Goldendoodle start being shampooed? What age to start cleaning Goldendoodle ears? How often Does a Goldendoodle need to be trimmed in its first year? I then asked for any special comments, some of which you can see in the results below, supporting what we found. As always thank you to our experts — we are thrilled our panel was willing to answer our surveys and help us out. Here are the results! The experts mostly agreed that a Goldendoodle should be first groomed around 5 months of age. A pie chart of the expert survey results showing how the experts recommend when to start grooming a goldendoodle puppy. The breeders trended a little higher, recommending first grooming around 7 months of age. The owners and groomers settled at 5 months. Everyone mostly agreed around 5 months of age is the first time to groom a Goldendoodle. The primary reason for this is that around this time most Goldendoodle will be shedding their puppy coats. It is also around this time that you will get a clearer picture of what type of coat your Goldendoodle actually has. This will influence the frequency and cost of grooming over the lifespan of your Goldendoodle. Straight coats shed a lot more but are lower maintenance. Wavy and curly coats are low to no shedding but require more frequent grooming. There are lots of sounds, sights, smells and touching that a Goldendoodle needs to get used to. The earlier the better they feel about grooming when older. This is great because Goldendoodles can get stinky. There were four options to select from. Many owners use puppy shampoo for the first year or two. This is especially true if they have a super cute teacup or toy miniature Goldendoodle. It varies dog to dog! Any Poodle Mix Breed needs to be acutely aware of the issues that our awesome mixbreed dogs inherit from the Poodle. The shape of the ear canal and hair that grows can lead to troubles and ear odours. Cleaning a Poodle Mix ear canal is something that can easily be done at home. Goldendoodles will require regular grooming and upkeep. You can trim your Goldendoodle at home! If you feel up to it — it is a worthy challenge! Even if it is not going to be a regular thing — I recommend everyone learns how to do a Goldendoodle puppy cut. With that said — our awesome Groomers do an amazing job — and are usually worth the money if you can spare it! They can be magnificent at keeping your Goldendoodle calm and enjoyable. Depending on the generation and coat type of your Goldendoodle , this can be subtle. For others, it is a very noticeable change. Our experts recommended 5 months and older for grooming because Goldendoodle tend to be in the start of the puppy coat transition at this point. This only refers to a whole body trim, as a hygienic and comfort trim of the paws, eyes, and around the butt are safe and common. The change is so minor in some wavy coated Goldendoodle that you will not even notice it. For straight hair or curly, it can be a significant difference in softness. Puppy Grooming: First Haircut When should a goldendoodle puppy go to the groomer? What do you do? The first trip to the groomer Your puppy has hopefully! She should have already had her initial introduction to her lifetime of being groomed. Your goldendoodle puppy should visit a professional groomer for the first time after her week immunizations. Since she will need regular grooming throughout her life, both she and her groomer will benefit if she is accustomed to being groomed from a young age. The first big girl or big boy haircut The wavy, curly adult coat will start replacing the soft, fluffy puppy coat around months of age. Waiting to cut the hair until the adult coat makes its debut beneath the layers of puppy fur helps ensure that the adult coat remains soft. Poodle groomers and poodle fanciers claim that shaving a poodle or goldendoodle down before her adult coat starts coming in could damage the adult coat, affecting the texture. Take your goldendoodle puppy for her first full big girl haircut at months of age, once her adult coat has started coming in. As aforementioned, take her to the groomer for a puppy clip after her week immunizations. Before your first big trip to the groomer for that full haircut, spend time looking through pictures of goldendoodle haircuts. Towels A Leash or other means for keeping your dog still If you plan to groom your doodle regularly, consider purchasing a grooming table with an arm. What looks good on one goldendoodle won't necessarily look good on the next. For instance, Maple looks good with long ears but Abria can't pull off long ears. She looks much better with short ears. Also keep in mind that coat type impacts appearance. It will likely take a few trips to the groomer to figure out exactly what you like for your special pup. Here are a few examples of clips we like. Again, keep in mind that every doodle is different. How To Brush A Goldenoodle Brushing is the key to having a cute doodle haircut, especially if you like the look of a longer coat and especially if your doodle has a curly coat. There are two main tools for brushing a doodle: the slicker brush and the steel comb. A metal comb works best for curly coated doodles while a grooming rake may work well for wavier coated doodles. If you encounter a mat, use a pair of thinning shears or blunt tipped scissors to help remove it. You may also want to try a detangler. It's easiest to untangle mats when they're small. A doodle covered in mats means a shaved down puppy, regardless of whether you prefer the shorn look or not. Sometimes people wonder whether a groomer actually could get all of the mats out of their doodle and is simply taking the lazy route by shaving her. Truly, the groomer may be looking out for your doodle's best interest. If your child's hair was laden with tangles, would you really want a stranger pulling and tugging at them for hours? You likely wouldn't put your child through such a hair-pulling experience, and you honestly don't want your dog to go through that either. Remember, you want your doodle to like going to the groomer. Rather than blaming the groomer if you doodle requires a shave down, resolve to brush your dog regularly so your doodle can have a cuter clip for her next haircut. Trimming A Goldendoodle Face Who doesn't love that quintessential hair in the eyes? It's almost a trademark characteristic of goldendoodles. But it doesn't take long that one cute curl to become an entire tuft of hair, hiding her eyes and blocking her vision! My favorite tool for trimming the hair around doodle's eyes is a pair of thinning shears because they help cut away unwanted hairs without leaving a distinct line. You'll also want a pair of small blunt tipped scissors. The Sanitary Clip You've likely noticed that your doodle gets a little unkempt in certain areas faster than other areas. Hair starts blocking her vision. She's begins getting little cling-ons on her rear end. But you love her shaggier look, and she doesn't seem quite ready for a full haircut. There are a few extra grooming steps you can take at home to help keep her clean and tidy in between grooming appointments. Expect to perform this maintenance every weeks. A pair of sturdy dog clippers with a detachable blade is a worthwhile investment. Use you dog clippers and a 10 blade to trim your dog's belly, behind, and under the ears. Doing a maintenance trim will help decrease the frequency of your doodle's grooming appointments, so the dog clippers will quickly pay for themselves. Your doodle has a thick coat and will benefit from clippers designed specifically for grooming dogs. The clippers you use on your own head will overheat and wear out quickly trimming your doodle's coat. You might also enjoy:. Goldendoodle Puppies at weeks old. Their coats are fluffy and getting thicker. The pup in the middle will be the first to need the hair around his eyes trimmed. We are not being paid or compensated to advertise these. These are just items we have research and added to our grooming set up. Here at Rainfield, we have puppies whose coats range from quite curly our F1bb or some F1b puppies to shaggy wavy coats our F1s and some F1bs. Goldendoodles take a couple years to get their full and final coats, so their coats will change and transition during those first two years. They usually start off pretty fluffy with baby fuzz underneath. Gradually the curlier doodles get more of a curly, poodle-like coat, although usually with looser curls that a poodle. The shaggy wavy coated doodles, get a longer, fuller, straighter coat, often with a little curl in it. In our experience, curlier goldendoodles need their first actual grooming experience a little earlier monhs old than the shaggy wavy doodles months. Two different coat types. Marcus the Great is an F1 doodle and has a shaggy, wavy coat. Princess Neely is an F1b Mini Goldendoodle puppy. She has a beautiful curly coat. Get Your Puppy Started with Weekly Grooming Maintenance Regardless of the coat type, before you start full-on grooming a goldendoodle puppy, they need to get used to regular brushings and the sounds of the grooming table blowers, clippers, etc. Go ahead and blow dry them a little bit after each bath. If you have clippers or beard trimmers, turn on the clippers and let your goldendoodle get used to the sound. Bring the clippers close to their fur in different places, their head, legs, feet. Give your doodles dog treats while the blower or clippers are going so your doodle develops a positive association with those sounds. Brushing your goldendoodle puppy at least once a week is very important. The earliest grooming a goldendoodle puppy needs is often an eye, ear and sanitary trim. When their hair starts getting in their eyes, or fuzzing out their ears, and when poop residue starts clinging to their fur near their butt, your doodle is ready for their first light grooming. Amber is a 5 month old F1 Goldendoodle Puppy. With our puppies that often happens at about weeks of age. You can either take them to the groomer to get this done, or, if you are more of a DIYer like we are, you can do this at home. A little trim around the eyes, a light buzz on the inside of the ears with a small trimmer like this one and some scissor clipping around their potty areas might be enough to tide you over until their coat is thick enough for their first official grooming. Just be careful because doodles can be bouncy. We use safety tip grooming scissors that have rounded ends for the areas around their face. A scissor clip will even her coat out a bit. With that nice coat, we want her to be used to regular grooming and the grooming table as well. Our doodles seem to need their first grooming at about 5 months old, but puppies with an especially thick, full coat, may need it sooner. Puppies with thinner coats, may be able to go longer than that. We do most of our own grooming, when possible. We prefer the longer, shaggier look on our goldendoodles, so we prefer to start with scissor clipping when grooming a goldendoodle puppy. Scissor clipping is all Amber needs for now. A grooming table makes all the difference. We use the large Flying Pig Brand. Grooming a goldendoodle puppy takes skill, but Violet 16 has learned her grooming techniques by watching Youtube videos. Amber feels good and looks so much cleaner and neater after getting all that puppy fuzz off. Dogs with long ears can have more ear trouble as the hair grows and gets trapped in their ears. Once this happens, moisture is retained and yeast and other bacteria can become a problem. Part of your weekly grooming maintenance should be checking their ears and using an ear wash. We use Zymox Otic and use that for 3 or 4 days. Brownie has those long, floppy doodle ears that need regular cleanings to keep yeast growth at bay. See Also: Click the image Brushing and removing mats is especially important before going on to the next step, because water will make mats bigger and tighter. For instance, since blades by themselves take off most of the hair and cut closer to the skin than clipper combs, it may not make much sense to spend all that time bathing and blow drying your Doodle, only to clip all their hair off in the end. However, if you will be using clipper combs a. Whether you will be using bare blades or clipper combs, be aware that clipping a dirty coat will cause your blades to accumulate oil and dirt, causing them to become dull and ineffective quicker. He has a dislike of strangers entering the home, and medical professionals were also on that list. He came to us at the start of December and has been in foster since. He grew up in a house with two other dogs, numerous cats, as well as a mix of both young and older children. He is a large dog with a big heart but will need someone with experience of the breed to take control. His dislike of strangers means he will growl at them with a deep chesty growl. Coupled with his size, this can be intimidating to anyone not knowing the breed or the dog. Once in the home, he accepts the stranger after a small period of time and settles down without a fuss. On meeting the same person 3 or 4 times, he does remember them and shows a more friendly side, looking for fuss and attention He is walked on lead with his foster siblings and when let off lead, loves to play and run about but when called, has good recall and has no issues hooking back up to a lead.
