Average Poodle Cost The average cost of a Poodle will depend on various factors such as the type of Poodle, its age and size. Prices may vary based on geographic location and quality of breeding for each individual pooch. It is important to also factor in additional costs when considering purchasing a poodle puppy. Factors Affecting Poodle Price When considering the price of a poodle, there are several factors that come into play. The most significant factor is the size and type of poodle you choose. Standard and miniature poodles cost more than toy or teacup varieties. The other major factor in setting the cost of a poodle is where it was bred and raised. Cost of Teacup, Toy, and Standard Sized Poodles The cost of poodles can vary greatly depending on their size and type. Teacup or toy poodles are particularly small, often weighing less than 4 pounds, while standard-sized poodles generally weigh between pounds. This difference in size results in a significant price discrepancy between the two types of dogs. It is important to note that aside from the purchase price itself, there will also be ongoing costs associated with owning any kind of pet such as food, veterinarian visits, grooming supplies — these are all things you should consider when budgeting how much it will cost to own an adorable puppy! Adoption vs Buying a Puppy Poodle Adoption vs Buying a Puppy Poodle is an important debate when it comes to choosing the right pet for your family. Adopting a poodle can be less expensive than buying one, but there are pros and cons to both options. Adoption is often the most cost-effective way of getting a poodle as many shelters have fixed fees or even waived adoption fees during special events. On the other hand, purchasing a puppy from a breeder means you will know exactly what type of parentage your pup has and its specific breed characteristics — this can be especially beneficial if you plan on entering your pup into shows or competitions later down the line. Some breeders also provide guarantees regarding the health of their puppies so you can rest assured knowing that if any issues arise within certain timelines then replacements might be available too. Show quality poodles require significant investment in both time and money. In addition to this initial fee, other costs should be taken into consideration including health testing fees for breeding stock such as eye exams and vet checkups prior to making any purchase decisions. Additionally, training classes may also be needed if you plan on showing your dog — often these classes are structured over an extended period of time which can add up quickly in terms of both cost and commitment. Investing in a show quality poodle is not something that should be taken lightly — with proper research and due diligence however it can be incredibly rewarding! After you initially purchase the pup, ongoing expenses are necessary to keep the dog healthy and happy throughout its life. Veterinary care is an essential cost for any pet owner and should not be overlooked when considering owning a poodle. Routine checkups, immunizations, parasite prevention treatments, medications and other veterinary services will need to be purchased from time to time in order to keep your pup safe and healthy. Food is another major expense when it comes to owning a poodle. Quality food should be provided in order for them to have proper nutrition throughout their life. Grooming costs must also be factored into the overall price of ownership as well since regular brushing, bathing and trimming of nails is required for this breed in particular due its long locks of fur which tend to tangle easily if not treated properly on occasion. .Professional grooming services might come with some additional fees but they offer convenience since all tasks are usually completed during one appointment instead of having multiple visits per session like what would happen doing it yourself or hiring someone privately on an hourly basis outside of these shops specialized in caring for these furry pals specifically. Good eating habits developed during puppyhood will lead to a healthy mature dog in the years to come. Nutrition For The Outside One of the most visible components of your dog is its fur. Nutrition plays a vital role in this area. A large percentage of the protein your puppy takes in goes towards maintaining its coat. Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids are also essential for healthy skin and fur. Which Food Do I Choose? There will always be those who buy the cheapest brand on the market. Some will opt for the most expensive, while others will simply go with a brand name they recognize. The key is to find the right food for your particular puppy. One thing you cannot afford to ignore is the nutritional content. Because they are still growing, puppies need more protein than adults. Proteins foster muscle growth and development in puppies and lean muscle maintenance in adults, so the more of it there is in a diet, the better it is for your growing retriever. Fats, too, are important for golden puppies because they provide the energy required for everyday activities. You should be careful, however, not to feed your golden excess calories because this will result in excess weight or obesity. Eventually, your dog will end up battling joint problems. For instance, less expensive dog foods typically have lower-quality ingredients. The contents are often inexpensive, low-grade animal protein sources, like by-products and fillers. Fillers are frequently things like cornmeal, rice flour, or seed hulls. In general, thoroughly review the nutritional content of your chosen diet. Are the ingredients wholesome and natural? Does the diet have controlled calcium and phosphorous levels? Is the calorie and fat content limited to manage growth? Does the label state that the diet is complete and balanced? This can lead to obesity and will certainly cause increased defecation. The latter of these two issues will make house training more difficult than it already is. By contrast, costlier dog foods usually have higher-quality ingredients. The scales will be tipped heavily in favor of high-grade animal protein sources and fillers will be few and far between. Price is not, however, a guarantee of quality. The best dog foods for a golden retriever puppy are made with high-quality natural ingredients and have high levels of protein. Make sure the food is complete and balanced for daily feeding and formulated to meet the nutritional needs of large breed puppies. At this point, golden retriever puppies have likely already been switched to dry puppy food and you should continue feeding your pup the same type of food the breeder used. From the day you bring them home until they are six months old, you should feed your golden retriever puppy three times a day. Ideally, your pup should have breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. A grain-free diet is the default meal for golden retrievers that are sensitive to grains, but if your dog is healthy, feeding her such a meal boils down to choice. A lot has been said about grain-free diets. Reports and studies have been carried out in recent years trying to establish any connection between it and Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy DCM. To help you decide whether or not owning a Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is a good idea, we have gathered some of its pros and cons. When combined with its nature as a working dog, you get a family pet and a dog suitable for service work. Their protective streak, vigilance, and alertness help them protect their owners from perceived threats. Fairly easy to maintain: German Corsos are fairly easy to maintain when it comes to grooming. Although they tend to shed throughout the year, it is usually manageable. As for their health upkeep, you only need to bring them to the vet once in a while and provide them with enough activities as they enjoy training and exercise. Meanwhile, these are the cons of a German Corso that you should also take into consideration: Prone to aggression: German Corsos without proper training and socialization are prone to aggression towards other animals. While they are not likely to attack people directly, they might still cause danger to children and other dogs smaller than them. For this reason, they require dog owners who have experience in handling guard dogs. Not suitable for apartment living: This hybrid is a large working dog that constantly needs activity in wider spaces. When cooped in a small space, they tend to get bored, leading to destructive behavior. They also tend to bark a lot, which could be a nuisance even for owners themselves. Do not get along with cats and smaller animals: As dogs with high prey drive, powerful jaws, and hunting and herding instincts, they are mostly incompatible with cats and other pets of small sizes. This is why proper socialization with other pets is important. Weighing the pros and cons is essential before ultimately deciding whether the German Corso is the right dog for you. When you choose to purchase one, this will also help you prepare for what lies ahead. Both the German Shepherd and the Cane Corso are now viewed generally as excellent guard or service dogs. But they are, in fact, both essentially herding dogs. Both these parent breeds of the German Shepherd Cane Corso Mix would have been seen herding not only cattle, sheep and goats but even ducks, hens and geese. Indeed this is still the job of some Germa n Shepherds, although the Cane Corso is now rarely used for herding. This may explain why both these dogs are good with small animals. You can therefore expect a German Corso to get along with other animals including any feline friends. It also explains why both these dogs are very good guard dogs linking to their previous role in guarding these herds. All dog lovers will agree that both the Cane Corso and the German Shepherd are wonderful breeds and do share some personality traits and characteristics, but there are also differences. So the following offers a general guide to the temperament of the German Corso with the caveat that a specific dog could favor either of the founding breeds more strongly temperament and behavior. It is therefore also advisable to refer to a breed guide to research both of these founding breeds to get a full overview of the kind of personality a German Corso may have. Just like German Shepherds and the Cane Corso you can expect the Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix to be a gentle, exuberant and joyful dog at home always ready to play and attempting to be at the center of any family activity. The German Shepherd Cane Corso will also be highly affectionate dog and tactile. This dog will always want to by your side or lying next to your feet at every opportunity. The German Corso will inherit the hunting and herding instincts of its parent breeds. So this dog will never be happier than when chasing after a ball or Frisbee or running around with its human pack playing tug and searching games. The German Corso will be a large dog who is highly protective and tolerant towards children, although as ever, all play and interaction must be carefully supervised, particularly with very young children. Both parent breeds have a bone-crunching bite-force along with sheer size and bulk and consistent socialization strategies will help prevent any accidents. Although a friendly and playful companion the German Corso will quickly be able to switch on its protective instincts immediately when necessary. This dog is very likely to be suspicious of strangers This dog is also going to be very energetic although the natural excitability of the Cane Corso is likely to be softened by the more even temperament of the German Shepherd. The short answer for this high energy breed is plenty. Both parent breeds are very active and this dog will require around a couple of hours a day. This means the Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix will be an athletic and outgoing companion happy to accompany their owners on walks, jog, hikes and they will be able to trot along beside a cycle for miles. The Cane Corso influence adds to this a need for plenty of mental stimulation as they are a working breed who are constantly looking for something to do or chase. If possible, walking should be combined with as much physical and mental stimulation as possible. These German Shepherd Cane Corso Mix should be kept fully stimulated and this will require a good level of physical and mental exercise. This trainable and intelligent dog will enjoy obedience drills as part of an exercise regime. The German Corso should also ideally be allowed to run off the leash during walks. The good news is that a well-socialized and consistently trained this hybrid dog will be biddable and should have good recall. This means that exercise should initially be compartmentalized into little and often rather than one walk in the first couple of years. This is because over-exercise can potentially damage bones, ligament and joints as the dog grows. If you are concerned regarding this then it is highly advised that you discuss this with a vet. The Cane Corso and the German Shepherd are both large dogs that like to be very close to their human family. This has been intensified by the fact that both have had the traditional role or function of guarding and protecting at close quarters in the history of their development. This means that wherever you go in the home, the Cane Corso German Shepherd will not be far behind. These dogs make a for a wonderful family pet and will be happy if close to their humans. This means these dogs can cope readily with new settings and change in routine if taken on holiday. Although Mastiff breeds generally become anxious if there is a change in routine, this trait is not shared by the Cane Corso. So as long as you have a big enough vehicle your German Shepherd Cane Corso Mix dog is likely to make an excellent travelling companion. The German Corso will be very eager to please and will want to be at the center of all family activities. They are likely to be very tactile, playful and gentle with children of all ages although, as with all dogs, they must be closely supervised. An additional bonus is that this dog will be very protective of all the family, particularly children. It is even better if a prospective owner has experience with large and powerful breeds. Alternatively this dog will prosper most with an owner who is willing to invest time in puppy socialization and training classes to ensure their dog is confident and entirely biddable both within and outside the home. This is not a dog that does will do well at all when left alone, as both founding breeds tend to shadow their owners. So the German Corso will best suit owners who can provide company most of the day, otherwise this devoted pooch is likely to suffer from separation anxiety. An owner will also need to be fit and strong enough to handle this dog alongside ensuring leash training has been consistently put in place. The Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix will have only minimal grooming requirements, and is only likely to shed a couple of times a year. The coat will generally be short and sleek coat will only need brushing around once a week. Although if the German Shepherd Dog heritage includes the long-haired Shepherd then this coat may be longer and require more frequent brushing. But during periods of very hot weather, the coat acts as a natural aircon system for a dog. So more regular daily brushing is recommended to remove dead hair and allow airflow through the coat. Please click here for other tips on keeping your dog safe in hot weather. German Shepherds and the Cane Corso have a reputation for being clean, but there is a chance that Cane Corso favored dogs may sometimes drool. The German Corso is going to not only be large, but will also be very high-energy. The Cane Corso also has the reputation for being something of an escapologist so a German Shepherd Cane Corso Mix will need tall fencing and secure gates in place. Apartment living is impractical for the Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix who will need constant opportunities to burn off excess energy and are also likely to cause damage in a confined space. The lifespan of the Cane Corso is between years. While German Shepherd Dogs generally have slightly more longevity and can expect to live up to 13 years. Hybrid breed dogs are potentially healthier than classic breeds of dogs. But it is still important to be aware of some of the health complications that can afflict the founding breeds of the Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix as it still possible that they may be inherited. The history of Cane Corso or the Italian Mastiff dates back to the 1st century when large Mastiff-like dogs were used for war and hunting purposes. These dogs are purebred, and they produced a group of modern-day Mastiffs like the Cane Corso, Italiano, and Rottweiler. Intelligent, trainable, and loyal are the traits that always make the Cane Corso puppy grow into an excellent watchdog, guard dog, and family pet. They were developed as working dogs, used for herding and guarding sheep. German Shepherds were and still are admired for their intelligence, easy trainability, stamina, and boldness. They were used for herding, as security, for search and rescue, as guides for the blind, and they fulfilled many other roles as well. Nowadays, the German Shepherd is still a very popular dog in the States, all thanks to its intelligence, loyalty, and affection towards dog owners. Parent Breeds As Working Dogs Both German Shepherds and the Cane Corso have been bred as working dogs with their main purpose to guard and protect families and their property. Both breeds were also used in hunting and as cattle herders. Thanks to decades of selective breeding, their crossbreed puppies now have wonderful traits to inherit. Dogs with such important roles had to be smart, decisive, confident, dominant, intuitive, and have a strong desire to be leaders and work alongside people. Both breeds were even used in civil wars and conflicts in the forces or as messengers. With lots of proper training, the Cane Corso German Shepherd mix can be successful in police work, search and rescue, service work, helping people with disabilities, etc. These doggies need to work. The same goes for the German Corso. Still, there are some traits we can still predict, thanks to the insight we have on the parent breeds. The German Corso is supposed to be a big dog with much strength. Males are always larger than females and very muscular. Other physical traits can vary. Genetics can influence whether a dog will have a round or elongated head, whether the muzzle be short or long, if the ears will stay erect or be floppy, and what the body shape will be like, etc. The German Shepherd dogs have a medium-length, double-layered coat. Therefore, you can expect your hybrid puppy to have a short to medium-length double coat. Both parents come in a variety of colors. Cane Corsos can come in blue, black, fawn, or brindle. GSDs are usually tan or tan and black. They may come in solids like blue or red, without the black markings. With the prevalence of solid darks, the German Corso may be black, tan, or brindle. Puppies that pass proper training and socialization in time are more likely to become great additions to any family and loyal sidekicks. German Corsos are very loyal and dependable canines. However, they have a tendency to attach themselves to one family member. Since both parents were working dogs in the past, it is important to find an occupation for your German Corso too. Another nasty habit bored German Corsos have is their tendency to bark a lot. Trust us — they can bark for hours! Also, this is not a breed for first-time dog owners. They will be too energetic from time to time, and that requires a family with spare time to exercise them and have them deplete their energy bar. The Cane Corso and German Shepherd are known for their high prey drive. Also, the German Corso may have hunting and herding instincts that kick in from the past. The Cane Corso parent gets along with other large dogs just fine, but the GSD parent is a problematic one, and it often expresses aggressive behavior. Still, socialization is imperative in all cases. Since both parent dogs get along with kids just fine, you can expect their hybrid puppy to act the same. But, supervision when playing is important, especially if the kids are small. If you have kids in your household, you should discourage chasing habits. They should be socialized from a young age to adapt well to other dogs and animals. The best time to start training your puppy is around the month milestone. Insisting on training and repeating commands too many times might result in your puppy becoming frustrated. It affects the training long-term. All the training done before the age of 10 months should be done through games, so make sure your pup is excited and interested to play. This will be an excellent basis for the upcoming training and a great opportunity to create a lasting bond. As the puppy grows up, some age-appropriate and breed-appropriate training should be done. You should also become more strict and confident and always use a stern tone that dogs notice and understand. You may want to do a certain type of training depending on the type of work you want your German Corso to do. When training your Cane Corso German Shepherd mix, you should know that your voice is your biggest tool for training. The second is a scolding voice you use when the dog misbehaves. For the dog to understand all the tones, they must associate a certain tone with an action, i. There is actually no need to threaten your dog during training. Ignoring what the dog does or withdrawal of affection works like a charm. They always stop the unwanted behavior to please the owner and get love and attention in return. Commands you use during training should be short and easy to understand. It may lead to frustration and unwillingness for all future training attempts. These are dogs that value affection and love. Maybe the dog is unsure of something or afraid. The German Corso needs lots of exercise daily to remain a happy and healthy puppy. At least one hour of meaningful physical activity is needed a day. Take them on daily walks, give them space in a fenced yard to run around freely. And never let them get bored. This means this hybrid is not hypoallergenic and not the best choice for allergy sufferers. If your puppy has a short coat, you should brush it once a week. In the meantime, deodorizing dog wipes will quickly help you keep them clean and fresh. When it comes to clipping nails or trimming hair, you can do this yourself or ask a professional dog groomer to step in. High-quality dog food is advised for all dogs, and this mix will need three to four cups of dog food each day. The starting point should be feeding twice a day. The best choice you can make is to buy high-quality dog food rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids. What most dog owners forget is to include probiotics in their daily nutrition as well. Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix: Common Health Problems Getting a hybrid puppy is a lottery; you never know which health issues the puppy will inherit from both parents. Take the German Corso, for example. Both parents are prone to bloat, elbow dysplasia, and hip dysplasia. The Cane Corso side of the family is also prone to eye problems like ectropion and entropion. On the other hand, the GSD is prone to hemophilia, epilepsy, cataracts, and degenerative disc disease. Also, a healthy lifestyle and regular vet checkups reduce the risk of these mentioned diseases, even one of the nastiest of them all — mange! A healthy Cane Corso German Shepherd mix may have a life expectancy anywhere between 9 to 13 years. Rescuing and adopting from a shelter is a rewarding experience for all dog lovers. It depends on the availability, the breeder, and any unique traits the puppy has. Finding a reputable and responsible breeder for German Corso is crucial as these dogs can have a personality that can be difficult to handle. A German Corso should be a smart dog, loyal to its owner, affectionate, brave, and confident. Never buy from puppy mills or backyard breeders. They only sell puppies to make a profit. Reputable breeders keep the puppies and dogs in a clean and safe environment. With continuous training and socialization, the German Corso can be an ideal choice for the right dog owner. The most important factor you should consider before getting a German Corso is the amount of time you have available because you will need to pay lots of attention to socializing and training, If you believe you can make it, who are we to stop you from getting this awesome puppy? Mastiff Lab Mix: why it will win over your heart 14 photos Although the mixed breed itself is very new, both parents of this dog are old breeds. Cane Corso can even be called ancient! If you live on a farm or are planning to train your dog and work with it regularly, this is great. If you need a lower maintenance dog, this may not be your breed. Cane Corso German Shepherd mix and family Along with their exceptional working qualities, both German Shepherds and Cane Corso have evolved to live close to their people and be part of their everyday life. They are very well attuned to their owners and sometimes seem to be able to read their minds. A Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is not only a working dog but a companion as well. Both German Shepherds and Cane Corso are extremely attached and devoted to their owners. It is absolutely critical for these dogs to live heart to heart with their owners, taking part in everyday life. This is not a good outside dog that you can keep on a chain in the yard. This dog that will need to live in the house with you, will follow you everywhere and be interested in everything you do. Despite the large size, these dogs are excellent with kids. Of course, you have to be careful letting particularly small children play with such a large dog as the dog can accidentally knock the kid off their feet. Training your Cane Corso German Shepherd mix: main principles and approaches Training is absolutely critical in raising a polite, well-behaved Cane Corso German Shepherd mix Because this mix is naturally a great working dog, I wanted to talk a little about how to go about training this dog. Training is absolutely critical in raising a polite, well-behaved Cane Corso German Shepherd mix that you can be proud of and that will be a pleasure to have around. But how to approach the training correctly? Every breed has its own nuances when it comes to best training approaches, and this is true for Cane Corso German Shepherd mix as well. The best time to begin training your pup is when they are around 10 months old or so. You can start earlier, of course, with more basic commands and rules that you want your dog to follow around the house. This is when you will teach your pup to sit, lie down, fetch, go to their crate and behave well on the leash. If you insist on training or repeat a command too many times, the dog may get frustrated which will negatively affect further training. All the training -or pre-training — that you do before the age of 10 months or so should be mostly in the form of a game so that your pup stays excited and interested. This will be a good basis for further training as well as a wonderful time for you to bond with your dog. Psst, while you are reading this post, I just wanted to say you might also like these other articles:. The most important factor when you get one of these dogs is discovering a reputable breeder. Often when you get crossbreed like this, these dogs can come from poor situations due to backyard breeding or puppy mill situations. When this happens, the puppies are usually very unhealthy with questionable temperaments. The dogs are typically kept in less than favorable conditions, which can rack up much more vet costs down the line. And by purchasing from these types of breeders, you are supporting the continuing of this practice. So, always make sure to screen for a reputable breeder. Both parent breeds are excellent guard dogs. Both parent breeds are from Europe. Cane Corsos are brachycephalic, while German Shepherds have long snouts. They might be goofy and friendly with their family, those they consider a part of their pack. However, when it comes to outsiders, they will be highly selective on who they deem worthy of hanging out. These dogs are brilliant, picking up on training concepts with ease. Because they care so much about what their owners think, they are generally incredibly obedient and eager to please. Your assurance means more to them than anything else. So they are very likely to listen to you if you tell them the situation is acceptable. However, they can be a little stubborn from time to time. When it comes to the looks of the German Shepherd and Cane Corso , these hybrids look like very amiable dogs. But they can sometimes be a little temperamental with strangers. And they might be selective about who is allowed to have their attention. Of course, there are always exceptions to this rule. Some dogs in this crossbreed might be silly and outgoing, not really taking an issue with strangers at all. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They work equally as well with single owners. However, due to their size and energy levels, we do not recommend them for older adults. These dogs make loving, loyal companion animals who fiercely devote themselves to their family unit. They do surprisingly well with children, taking on a parental role most of the time. And due to their high energy levels, they can make fantastic backyard playmates. As with any canine, supervision is necessary with smaller children. These dogs take a while to grow into their feet and can knock down younger children by accident. We recommend this breed for ages 6 and older. We also want to point out that if you adopt an older dog of this breed, you definitely want to make sure they match with every person in your home. This mix does incline to attach itself to one group of people, or a person. If the dog is rehomed, it might take a long time for them to warm up. Some dogs might exhibit territorial aggression or not get along and same-sex pairs. However, you can curb this tendency if they are exposed to new situations early on. These dogs might have a high prey drive, often making them incompatible with cats and smaller animals. You will need to keep a close eye on any interactions with smaller pets as they have powerful jaws. Even if they are playing, it can end up badly for a smaller pet. At home, these dogs will be lovable companions. Both the Cane Corso and the German Shepherd are excellent hunting and herding dogs, and a Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix will love running after any small animal it can find. Your other pet will meet a sad fate if the German Corso gets its crushing jaws around it. So, try not to keep any other pets around when you have a Cane Corso German Shepherd mix in your house. The German Shepherd can learn various instructions quickly and has no trouble remembering its training when needed. The Cane Corso is also a fast learner and likes it when its owner gives it work to do. Poorly socialized dogs grow to fear other dogs and people, and that makes them aggressive. Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix exercise requirement The German Shepherd is a super-active dog breed that requires ample daily physical activity. The Cane Corso is comparatively less active but is still a hardworking dog with plenty of stamina. Combine them, and you get a mix that needs at least an hour and a half of exercise every day. However, the exercise requirement depends on the age. A fresh dog is too full of energy and excitement and may chase after people. Only take the leash off after the dog has calmed down a bit. If it takes after the Cane Corso, grooming it will be a breeze. Cane Corsi have a short coat and shed minimally, and brushing them once a week is enough. In contrast, the German Shepherd has a fluffy double coat and sheds a lot. Avoid bathing your German Corso too frequently. Stick to damp towels and perfumed wipes and bath them a few times a year. Checking their ears is crucial if your German Corso inherits the floppy ears of the Cane Corso. Floppy ears hide earwax buildup and infections, and their hygiene can get overlooked. The German Corso is likely to inherit the heavy shedding from its German Shepherd side. But since Cane Corso and German Shepherds are pretty similar in height and weight, we can safely say that a typical German Corso will need at least 3 to 4 cups of high-quality dog food daily. Note that the German Corso is prone to getting overweight, so avoid fatty foods and stick to lean protein with some carbs. Keep human foods away and avoid giving this dog snacks and candies. Experts believe these diseases exist because this dog has been inbred a lot to keep its lineage pure and in line with the AKC standards. A Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix will likely be healthier than its German Shepherd parent, but it can still inherit one or more of the following health problems. Hip dysplasia Hip dysplasia is common among large dogs and is prevalent among Cane Corso and German Shepherds. Hip dysplasia is when the hip socket fails to develop correctly, causing hip joints to rub against the bone instead. Hip osteoarthritis is painful and can lead to paralysis of the lower body. Elbow dysplasia Elbow dysplasia is similar to hip dysplasia as it also affects large dogs. The elbow fails to develop correctly in the affected dog, causing joints to rub against the bone instead of their socket. Bloat Bloat is common among broad-chested dogs and happens when the dog is unable to expel its stomach gases. Eating too much too fast can cause gases to get trapped inside, leading to bloat. Bloat is painful and uncomfortable to the dog, and it can lead to a fatal condition called gastric torsion. Degenerative disc disease It is a genetic disease of the spine that affects German Shepherds more than other breeds. Being degenerative means that this condition worsens with time and can end with total paralysis. Your Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix may not have it, but if they do, you can reduce the symptoms by proper diet, weight management, and physical therapy. Epilepsy Epilepsy is another German Shepherd disease that is hereditary and has no cure. Dogs with epilepsy experience random seizures—especially under stressful situations. Hemophilia Inbreeding is prevalent among German Shepherds, and one of the byproducts of this practice is hemophilia. For a dog with hemophilia, minor bruises and small cuts can become life-threatening injuries. Such dogs have smaller lifespans than toy breeds, and you can expect this mix to have a lifespan of 10 to 12 years. Although it may sound brief, it is standard for dogs their size. They also require ample living space, and many owners have trouble keeping them in their homes once they grow up. Their medical history may be unknown, and they may not have proper training. Although adoption is a rewarding and inexpensive option, buying from trusted breeders ensures you get a healthy, young, and well-behaved dog. Unfortunately, there are many shady breeders mixing breeds to produce dogs that look intimidating and dangerous. For all those reasons, we recommend sticking to registered breeders. If you need a robust, tenacious, and loyal guard dog that will make a fun and playful pet, look no further than the Cane Corso German Shepherd Mix. The German Corso is an excellent mix of tenacity, intelligence, and strength. What is the best mix with Cane Corso? Cane Corso Labrador crosses make brilliant dogs. Is a Cane Corso bigger than a German Shepherd? The Cane Corso is only one or two inches taller than the German Shepherd. But due to its heavier build, the Cane Corso outweighs the German Shepherd by about 20 to 30 pounds. How big do German Corsos get? German Corsos can get as tall as 28 inches at the shoulders and weigh over pounds. No material on this site is intended to be a substitute for professional veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The breed made its way to Italy during the Middle Ages, where it became a popular breed. They nearly became extinct after World War II, but were saved by dedicated breeders. They were used for herding sheep and as guard dogs. The Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is a hybrid of these two breeds, often known as a designer breed. They inherit the herding instincts of the German Shepherd and the guarding instincts of the Cane Corso. These dogs make great family pets and are often used as service dogs. Unfortunately, they are often overlooked in animal shelters. If you are looking for a herding or guard dog, consider adopting a Cane Corso German Shepherd mix. You will be getting a loyal and loving pet that will make a great addition to your family. The Cane Corso German Shepherd mix will typically inherit the short, dense coat of the Cane Corso, which can come in a variety of colors including black, brindle, fawn, and blue. These dogs are loyal and protective, making them great guardians for the family home. Black is a common color for this breed, and it can have various shades. The coat may also be solid black or have small patches of white or another color. Other coat colors that are commonly seen in this breed include brown, tan, and white. The coat may also be a mix of two or more colors. Markings on the coat, such as black spots or streaks, are also common. Temperament Cane Corso German Shepherd Mixes are large, powerful dogs with strong protective instincts. They need firm, consistent training and socialization from an early age to prevent them from becoming aggressive. If you are considering this breed, be sure to do your research and only buy from a reputable breeder. Avoid any breeder who cannot provide health clearances for the parents. These puppies may have temperament issues due to inbreeding and poor socialization. Generally speaking, the temperament of this mixed breed is likely to be a combination of both the Cane Corso and the German Shepherd. The Cane Corso is known to be a loyal, loving, and protective dog, while the German Shepherd is often considered to be noble, obedient, and eager to please. When these two dogs are combined, you are likely to end up with a devoted, loving, and protective pup of its family. Like with any puppy, it is important to start socialization early on to ensure that your puppy grows up to be a well-rounded dog. These dogs are intelligent and eager to please, however they can also be stubborn and strong-willed. They respond best to positive reinforcement and continuous training throughout their lives. Socialization is key, as is training your dog how to properly interact with people and other animals. Without enough exercise, this breed can become destructive. Daily exercise is a must for this breed and should include at least one long walk or run. Other activities such as playing fetch or Frisbee are also effective ways to burn off excess energy. It is important to provide them with plenty of mental stimulation in order to avoid these problems. Some ways to do this include: training, obedience classes, agility courses, puzzle toys, and interactive toys. Grooming Requirements Brushing This breed requires some special care when it comes to grooming. As a heavy shedder, this breed will require daily brushing as they are prone to developing mats and tangles in their fur. Keeping on top of this will ensure you reduce the amount of hair around your home. Ears Their ears should be checked regularly for earwax buildup and cleaned as needed. This can be done by using a cotton ball dampened with warm water and gently wiping the inside of the ear. A good rule of thumb is trimming their nails every two weeks. Teeth The Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is also prone to dental problems, so regular brushing of their teeth is essential. This breed should have their teeth brushed at least three times a week, using a toothbrush and toothpaste designed specifically for dogs. Overall, they are a high-maintenance breed when it comes to grooming. However, with a little extra care, you can keep your dog looking and feeling its best. Health Conditions The Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is a large and powerful dog, and as such, health conditions common to large breeds are something to be aware of. Elbow and hip dysplasia are two orthopedic conditions that can affect this breed mix, although health clearances for both parents can help to lessen the chances of these problems occurring. Gastric torsion, or bloat, is another health concern common in large dogs and one that owners should be familiar with. With proper care and attention to health concerns, this breed mix can be a loyal and loving companion for years to come. Nutrition Requirements When it comes to dietary requirements, the Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is not too different from other dogs. They will need a good quality dry dog food as their main source of nutrition, supplemented with a food rich in protein and fat. Organic food is always the best option for this breed, as it will provide them with all the nutrients they need without any artificial additives. However, if you cannot afford organic food, then a good quality dry dog food will suffice. As well as their main source of nutrition, your Cane Corso German Shepherd mix will also enjoy the odd treat of raw meat or table scraps. However, these should only be given in moderation and should not make up the bulk of their diet. Make sure that the treats you choose are healthy, nutritious, and not full of empty calories. When it comes to water, this breed should always have access to fresh, clean water. If you are feeding them dry food, then it is important to increase their water intake accordingly. In general, the Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is a healthy breed of dog with few dietary requirements. However, it is important to socialize them from an early age so that they know how to interact properly with other dogs. Otherwise, they may become aggressive or territorial. It is therefore important to introduce them to other dogs in a controlled setting and under supervision so that they can learn how to behave properly. If you adopt this breed as a puppy, you should focus on early socialization and make sure to expose them to several types of people, environments, and situations. This will help them grow into well-adjusted dogs that are friendly with humans and other animals. Due to the size of this mixed breed, they may accidentally knock over small children. This is due to the fact that both parent breeds are known for their high levels of drooling. Common reasons for drooling are heat, humidity, excitement, or nausea. If your Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is drooling more than usual, it could be due to one of these reasons. If your dog is drooling excessively and you cannot figure out why, it is always best to consult with your veterinarian. Excessive drooling can sometimes be a sign of a medical condition, so it is always best to err on the side of caution. This means that they may bark excessively, which can be a nuisance for neighbors. The most common reasons for their barking include: — To protect their family and home — When they are bored or lonely — While excited or playing — When they are anxious or stressed If the dog is barking excessively, it is important to consult a professional trainer to help find a way to reduce the barking. There are many ways to do this, such as positive reinforcement training, behavior modification, and desensitization. With the help of a professional, you can find the best method for your dog. Adaptability to Weather The Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is a versatile breed that can adapt to hot or cold weather. They are a hardy breed that is resistant to both extremes of weather. Their breeding means that they are well suited to hot weather as they have a short coat that does not retain heat. They also have a high tolerance for heat and can stay cool in hot weather thanks to their black skin. However, they will still need access to water and shade to prevent dehydration. They will also need a warm coat to protect them from the elements in cold weather. They are a hardy breed that can tolerate cold weather, but their short coat means that they will feel the chill more than breeds with longer coats. A good quality coat will keep them warm in cold weather and help them to stay healthy. This can be even longer if they are well-cared for and have no health problems. This occurred in , making it one of the newer breeds on the list. This price can vary depending on the breeder, the litter size, and the overall demand for the puppies. The price of this mix is even lower if you purchase from an animal shelter. Because the Cane Corso German Shepherd mix is a popular breed, there are often many of them available for adoption. Adoption fees are typically much lower than purchasing from a breeder, so this is a great option for those on a budget. If you are looking for a specific color or coat type, be prepared to pay more. This is because blue is a rarer color for the breed and therefore commands a higher price. Similarly, their rarity may cost puppies with long coats slightly more than average. No matter what your budget is, there is sure to be a Cane Corso German Shepherd mix puppy out there for you! This mix is perfect for families with children and other pets, as they are typically very good-natured. However, because of their size and strength, proper training and socialization are a must. When crossing the English-creme Golden Retriever and the poodle, we create a hybrid with the calm and polite, laid back temperament of the English creme golden retriever, yet we increase the lifespan with the poodle. American golden retrievers have long legs and are very athletic, but the English cremes have shorter legs and are not as strong in agility. To be in the presence of an English-creme golden retriever, customers are often struck with their politeness and how very calm they are. We feel the English-doodles are the finest puppies coming out of our program based on temperament alone. An excellent choice for those seeking a therapy dog, or those that may have children with special needs. Organizations like Domesti-pups have chosen our dogs for training therapy dogs. Several of our puppies have gone on to receive their Therapy Dog Certifications. When choosing for color, choose the bernedoodle or classic American Goldendoodle. When choosing for temperament alone, choose the Englishdoodle. There is nothing wrong with the temperaments of the Bernedoodles or Goldendoodles, nor is there anything wrong with choosing a dog for color, but we simply believe the Englishdoodles are one step above the others in regards to temperament and this is often very evident during bath time as they seem to lay in the water and handle the stress of the forced air blow dryer. Sizes: We currently offer standard and miniature English-doodles. Our standards can sometimes take on a stocky-shorter build like the English-creme parent. They tend to be heavy set and dense. Standards can weigh between 65 and 80 pounds. Our miniatures are between 28 and 35 pounds. It is important to keep in mind that in any litter each pup can take after either parent. On selection day we like to compare the pups with each other, noting which ones are husky, stocky and have the retriever build. Also which ones are leaner and longer legged like the poodle. We specialize in comparing skeletal structures. We are now offering the F1s and the F1b's. The F1 choice will be fine for those with moderate to low allergy concerns. F1s are classified as minimal shed. If you have a family member with severe allergies, you may find the F1b type just what you're looking for. These coat types are considered a high maintenance coat type and regular grooming every 6 to 8 weeks is required. Coat colors that we offer: Creme, Champagne, Apricot. Of course the high intelligence of the poodle is also passed down in the cross. Retrievers naturally desire to eliminate in long grass and potty training should be relatively easy for these reasons. Health and Life-span: As the English-creme golden retriever has a short life span of 7 to 8 years and is prone to cancer, hip dysplasia and Ichthyosis, crossing them with a poodle provides the hybrid vigor and increases life expectancy to 12 years or more. We have selected English-creme retrievers from the finest lines across Europe with World Winning pedigrees and famous lines like Dewmist Silk screen. The Teddy Bear English Goldendoodle, of course! Life Through The Lens Check out our photo and video galleries as well. We have a professional in-house media team that loves our Goldendoodles, and it shows in their great work. They endear themselves to everyone they meet with their friendly, intelligent, and accepting nature. They are usually highly affectionate, gentle, and patient. Teddy Bear English Goldendoodles make excellent family companions. They have a playful side and can be mischievous if the mood hits. They are loyal, and with proper reward-based training, can be highly obedient. Improper training, however, such as harsh corrections, can damage their confidence. Allergy-Friendly Teddy Bear English Goldendoodles that are a first-generation cross exhibit hybrid vigor, they are generally healthier than their purebred parents. This is a phenomenon in animal breeding, referring to the fact that the first cross between two unrelated purebred lines is healthier and grows better than either parent line. The other generations still exhibit hybrid vigor, but not as strong as the first generation. As a hybrid cross, they grow healthier and live longer than either parent line. The only genetic diseases they can be prone to would be those shared by both the English Golden Retriever and the Standard Poodle. No major concerns. Minor Concerns. Their life expectancy years. We absolutely love our sweet little Teddy Bear English Goldendoodles. We are confident that you will love them just as much as we do. They are social dogs, friendly towards children, other dogs and pets, and comfortable around strangers. Their intelligence, eagerness to please, and love of learning make them very easy to train. Guaranteed Health Our parent dogs are from some of the best bloodlines, with many champions in their history. We do health screenings on our parents prior to breeding to ensure that we are producing the healthiest puppies. Our puppies have current medical records and come with a state-certified Health Certificate. All puppies are well on their way to being crate trained when they go home and have all been well socialized with children. All puppies are child-tested and mother-approved. Hybrid Vigor Teddy Bear English Goldendoodles that are a first-generation cross exhibit hybrid vigor, they are generally healthier than their purebred parents. The only genetic diseases they can be prone to would be those shared by both the Golden Retriever and the Standard Poodle. No Major Concerns. Ready to Adopt? The Golden Retriever is well known for their mellow, happy go lucky personality and their intelligence. The Poodle is known as a very intelligent dog with a very loving personality. At Doodle Creek we select the best possible temperaments in both breeds to create a wonderful combination of the two breeds. We are committed to producing healthy English Goldendoodles with loving, happy, playful, fun personalities. The English Goldendoodles tend to be very alert, eager to please and intelligent. They have a goofy, playful personality and they thrive on being with people. Their love for people has won them over as one of the most popular breeds on the planet! When careful breeding practices are implemented, the English Goldendoodle makes the perfect companion. They are typically a mild mannered dog with a moderate energy level. Their exercise requirements are not excessive so two minute walks a day works well. The tend to be inquisitive dogs and love to explore making them great dogs for hiking, camping or going on family outings. If they are introduced to water at a young age, most will acquire a love for the water. They are very adaptable and will adjust to most any new environment. They do well in either urban or rural settings. Appearance The English Goldendoodle to me is the most stunning dog ever known to man! They are known to look like Teddy Bears with a beautiful round face and sturdy structured body. They have a much prettier face and sweet, kind eyes. Their ears are well placed as well which gives the English Goldendoodles a rounder look in their face. This is a large part of why we have chosen to go with the English Golden Retrievers in our breeding program. Every breeder creates their own look and we focus on bringing you the prettiest English Goldendoodles possible. Every puppy has a unique and different look but in general, they have that round face, stocky body and beautiful stance with the tail set similar to that of an English Golden Retriever. They typically have a fluffy, to wavy coat that is low to non shedding. We have been breeding English Goldendoodles for many years now and we know the combinations of parents that work well to produce stunning puppies. Breeding is an art and creating that great look without compromising on temperament and health is key to bringing you a beautiful puppy with a great personality. Finding a breeder who produces the look you are wanting in your Doodle is critical. Sizes We breed a variety of different Doodle sizes. The estimated size of your Doodle is determined by the size of both parents. Standard Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of breeding a full sized Standard Poodle with an English Golden Retriever or an English Goldendoodle. Medium Doodles pounds and inches tall - We have Moyen Medium Poodles here that we breed to full sized Doodles or Retrievers. This results in a nice medium sized companion. They come in either F1, F1b or Multigen generations. Mini Doodles pounds and inches tall - This is the result of any number of combinations depending on the size of the parents. It is not possible to have an F1 Tiny Doodle because breeding the smallest Poodle possible to a full sized Golden Retriever will still give no guarantees that the puppy will be in the pound range. Tiny Doodles only come in the F1b generation at Doodle Creek. These dogs typically have low to non shedding coats. Some will have the straighter coats with a loose wave to it. These coats will sometimes be low shedding. Others will have the fleecy coats and will shed very little to nothing at all. If you are wanting strong Retriever characteristics and you are okay with possibly some shedding, this would be a great option. If you have allergies, you may want to consider the F1b or Multigen breedings. These dogs will quite often look very similar to the F1 English Goldendoodles in that many still keep that nice, fleecy coat type. The litters normally have a few with the fleecy coat types and a few with the curly coat types. The fleecy coat typed F1b puppies are typically extremely low to non shedding. The F1b is an excellent choice for those who suffer from allergies. Multigen English Goldendoodles - Through our years of experience, we have now come to the point where we use our trusted genetics and we will breed two totally unrelated Goldendoodles together. We do all the proper DNA testing to ensure that we are getting the low to non shedding offspring from these matings. We have found that the Mulitgens are just as good as the F1b for those with allergies as they are also low to non shedding. The advantage of breeding Mulitgen English Goldendoodles here at Doodle Creek is that we are able to get more of the colours we are looking for in our puppies such as the tri colour, black and white, brown and white, or the merle. Coat types Our English Goldendoodles have several different coat types. Most are very low to non shedding. They turn into a loose curled coat as an adult and have a very soft feel. They are low to non shedding. The curly coat is similar to that of a poodle. They are typically non shedding and are wonderful for allergies. They get that beautiful, messy look to them and are very attractive looking as adults. They will often be low shedding but shed much less than a Golden Retriever. In the photos below we have posted the puppy photo on the left and one as they became adults on the right. This will give you an idea of what to expect when you get a puppy from either coat type listed here. We are premier breeders of English Cream Goldendoodles also known as white goldendoodles or British type goldendoodles. We specialize in the miniature stature of goldendoodles using championed lines from both English Cream Golden Retrievers and long legged white Toy Poodles. When we researched our breed we discovered some important things. The intelligence of the poodle as well as the low to minimal shedding coat gave families with allergies an opportunity to welcome one of our fur babies into their homes. Lastly, the smaller size of the toy poodle produced a manageable size for all families. We decided to breed this combination to offer beautiful, healthy, mini goldendoodle puppies that give us the best of both worlds! Read our Story Our dogs come from top quality bloodlines. Socialization with other dogs and people is essential, and enrolling in puppy training classes can provide structured guidance. Use these puppy training tips to have less stress with your puppy: 1. Stay on top of their exercise needs. Your GSD needs the proper exercise. Increase exercise slowly to avoid an injury that comes from too much impact on unfused joints and bones. While your puppy still lacks maturity and focus, you can increase training to help teach your dog obedience skills. Increase daily obedience and practice to help them learn training basics. Your beautiful German Shepherd puppy will grow very quickly! Teaching them when they are puppies will pay off for the rest of their life. Simple training should start the moment your puppy arrives home. Using the same word for the same activities will help them learn quickly. Give them the right chew toys. Your pup needs balls and toys that are safe and chew-worthy. Look for more indestructible toys to keep your German Shepherd busy and continue to offer chew treats to work their jaws. Find the right chews for you puppy so you minimize the potential for choking and their jaws get a good workout. Use some of these balls for German Shepherd puppies as a distraction toy to get their focus away from your fingers and onto the toy. Giving your puppy a chew toy when they are biting an unapproved item redirects their attention to the right item. Include mental stimulation for their minds. This puppy needs mental stimulation to help them exercise their brilliant minds. This intelligent dog need more than physical exercise. Their minds need to learn and become involved in their world in new and interesting ways. There are many ways you can include mental stimulation. Many of these ways involve teaching a new brain challenge or mental game. Keep them supervised. Even a young GSD can cause lots of trouble when left unsupervised. If your once potty-trained pup has now forgotten their potty manners, then use pet-safe baby gates to contain them or leash them to you to supervise their actions at all times. Pet safe gates like these allow your dog to still see you and feel they have watched over their family. Pet gates are a safe option that prevents your dog from getting its head stuck or worse. Shutting a German Shepherd behind a closed door increases their anxiety and can make unwanted behavior worse! Instead, use the baby gate in a safe area to give them less run of your house. Behaviors you like can improve daily. Every day is an opportunity for you to become a more successful leader. For example: If they want to go outside ask them for a sit first. If they bring you a ball to throw, ask for a down before you engage in play. Setting up expectations of accepted behavior helps them learn how to behave more appropriately. And these successful moments can help speed up how long it takes to train a German Shepherd. Even tiny successes are great confidence builders for your puppy and for you. These bursts of training are easier for your pup to understand. The most telling sign of your little puppy growing up is unpredictable behaviors. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but in a furry adorable body! If you have recently welcomed a 6-month-old German Shepherd puppy into your home, you are probably feeling a mix of excitement and overwhelming responsibility. At six months, your GSD puppy is starting to look and act a lot like an adult. He is also starting to explore his surroundings and may be roaming a lot more than usual. He is also going into puppy puberty, which comes with many behavioral changes including marking, aggression and acting on sexual desires. In this blog post, we will provide a survival guide for new owners of a 6-month-old German Shepherd puppy. We will cover essential topics such as feeding, exercise, training, grooming, and health care, and offer practical tips and recommendations to help you navigate this particular stage with your new companion. What to expect from a 6-month-old German Shepherd puppy? If you have a male puppy, for instance, you will notice that they are becoming overly territorial or intolerant of other male dogs and generally aggressive to unfamiliar people. In addition to the hormones, are the raging sexual desires which will make your puppy want to be around dogs of the opposite sex. Female puppies will start to go into heat, while male puppies will start roaming looking for females. Other changes to expect include: Playful and energetic Your young dog is also likely to be more energetic and playful than before. Becoming independent GSD puppies at this age are also starting to become more independent and may be less reliant on you. Enhanced communication skills Puppies at this age also have enhanced hearing skills and can process instructions a lot better. This is the time to advance obedience training to help them learn good behavior and become well-behaved adult dogs. Resource guarding Additionally, they may experience what we refer to as resource guarding. This is where puppies become so possessive of their toys that they become harsh when someone or another dog tries to touch them. American Kennel Club recommends early behavior training to prevent this possession aggression from escalating into nasty bites. Your six-month-old German Shepherd puppy will need quite a lot from you. First and foremost, they will need a consistent routine and structure. The routine should incorporate everything from feeding to play. A routine will help make life so much easier for both of you. Other needs include A good leader As an owner, you should also provide your puppy with good leadership. Part of being a good leader is giving clear instructions and being consistent with reinforcing the behavior. For a GSD puppy, establishing yourself as a pack leader is crucial in instilling good behavior. Consistent exercise You will also need to take your dog for daily walks or for play dates at the dog park to keep them mentally stimulated and physically active. Even as puppies, German Shepherds are extremely energetic dogs, and therefore daily exercise is a basic need for them. You will need to commit to at least 30 minutes of exercise in the morning and another 30 minutes in the evening. In addition, you will need to have a list of games and activities to keep them busy and mentally stimulated. Here are some activities you can try. Proper socialization It is also important to continue socializing your German Shepherd puppy at this age. This can involve exposing them to a variety of people, places, and other animals in a controlled and positive manner. This will help your puppy develop into a well-adjusted adult dog. Proper nutrition Proper nutrition is also important for a growing German Shepherd puppy. You will need to feed your puppy high-quality food appropriate for their size and age. It is generally recommended to feed puppies three to four times per day until they are about six months old, after which you can gradually transition to twice-daily feedings. Love and attention In addition to these basic responsibilities, you are also expected to provide your German Shepherd puppy with plenty of love, attention, and positive reinforcement. This will help them feel secure and build a strong bond with you. There are plenty of ways to bond with your dog. You can make use of the morning and evening exercise to bond, go on weekend hikes and trips together, walks at the dog park or play interactive games indoors. The goal is to create as much quality time with your dog to enhance the bond. Regular grooming Regular grooming is another thing your pup will require from you at least once every week. Now that their coat is fully filled up, they will start to shed a lot. This means you will need to create a schedule for brushing their coat and general grooming, like cleaning their ears and teeth. Ensure you get a good-quality brush for this job. They look a lot like a large breed dog at this point. Males will have an average weight of 53 pounds and a height of between inches, while females will weigh 46 pounds on average and will be inches tall. However, some German Shepherds puppies may be larger or smaller than others at this age. The puppies will have a more developed a more muscular appearance than they did when younger. They will have a longer, thicker coat, and their ears may be fully upright. Their paws may also be larger and more in proportion to their body, and a majority will have all their adult teeth on. Also noticeable will be their strong, muscular build and their intelligent and confident demeanor. It is normal for some puppies to grow more quickly or more slowly than others. To help speed up their growth, focus on proper nutrition. You also want to get your puppy a variety of chew toys to help with ear erection. This new stage comes with its own set of behavioral changes, as expected, like aggression, territorial marking, and moodiness. Other changes that your pup may experience to indicate sexual maturity include bloody discharge and swelling of the vulva. As the hormones kick in for both males and females, they will begin to act on their sexual desires. For males, particularly, they will start to prowl for females, and for females, they will start to go into their first heat cycle. But yes, from 6 to 12 months, your pup will develop aggressive reactions to other dogs as well as to unfamiliar faces. They will start to get pushier when playing with other dogs. They will also become bolder and more fearless when with other dogs. This is their innate need to want to dominate and protect their territory, which they are slowly marking. This sudden aggressiveness is also due to the hormonal fluctuation they are experiencing. Ideally, your puppy should have been trained as early as 4 months when the aggressive behavior starts so that by the time the aggression is heightened at 6 months, it is easier to deter. Be aware that even though they will not be aggressive to you as their owner, they will start to show disobedience when you give them commands. You will need to stamp your authority so that the puppy understands that you are in charge. This will also make training even with aggressive behaviors easier. Puppy puberty: What do owners need to know? The sixth month in puppies is marked with a surge of hormones. This makes it pretty hard to predict their behaviors. In fact, they may show some aggression and pushiness. They however like to hang out around female dogs because their sexual desire is heightened. For female puppies, you will notice a shift in their moods. They are also likely to become insecure and less interested in activities they once enjoyed as they start getting on heat. They may also become irritable and aggressive to other dogs. Both genders will also start showing some disobedience and unruly behaviors like not responding to commands they once did. Nutrition needs of a 6-Month-Old German Shepherd puppy At six months old, your German Shepherd puppy will still have some growing to do, and it is important to ensure that they are receiving the right balance of nutrients to support their growth and development. There are a variety of meat proteins that you can incorporate into the diet, such as chicken, beef, lamb, turkey, and salmon. Fats Fats and oils from fish, chicken, and meats are essential in developing healthy and shiny coat, skin, and fur. Carbohydrates Your 6-month-old puppy is going to need a lot of energy to keep up with his current activity levels. According to PetMD good sources of carbohydrates are plants and grains. Other essential nutrients Your puppy will also need essential nutrients minerals and vitamins to help in stabilizing their surging hormones as well as dental health and a multitude of other body functions. These nutrients can be found in cereals, meats, and vegetables. Final Thoughts Remember that your 6 month old German Shepherd is not a puppy anymore. It is the age when your pet officially enters the adolescence stage. What does this mean for it and you as its owner? The most troublesome period starts here. Your doggy can become rather unpredictable, and it is sometimes frustrating. It may still seem like a big fur ball, but it shows its temperament and character, so you need to be very careful. Moreover, it is very strong, too. So if your puppy is not properly trained, you may experience some difficulties in controlling it. Size and Appearance Your 6 month old German Shepherd puppy continues growing. It has already gained pounds .It is a large dog breed, and it has become obvious now. Your boy weighs pounds kg , and the girl, though smaller, is pounds kg heavy. The height of a male puppy at this age reaches inches cm at the withers, while female dogs are inches cm tall. Now, teething is almost completed, and your doggy can normally show all its 42 adult teeth already. However, some puppies continue teething until they are months old. The fur coat is also almost adult, with its double layers and a lot of shedding. It means that you need to develop a direct schedule for brushing and grooming. Buy a high-quality undercoat rake and brush your pup at least once a week. Since teething is finished, the ears stand up straight at this age. However, some puppies do not have perky ears until they are 12 months old. Another very important thing to consider in your six month old German Shepherd is that its sexual maturity begins. This stage is equivalent to teenagership or puberty in people. The hormones start kicking in, so males may want to look for a mate when outside. That is why it is so important to keep your puppy away from stray dogs at this time. Your boy may also start marking its territory and displaying aggression toward other animals and people. Estrogen in females also results in uneasiness and aggressive behavior. Walking in a dog park is not the best idea for your girl at this period. On average, a 6 month old GSD sleeps hours a day. Most of them are at night, but it may also need several naps in the daytime. Your puppy is very active at this age, so it needs a lot of walking and running. It is capable of walking long distances or even jogging. It is a truly great breed that can be very energetic. The puppy can walk up to 6 miles or 10 kilometers, and many believe that it is OK, since wolf pups as their ancestors could walk and run with their pack for many miles. However, every veterinarian will tell you that too much exercise of this kind can be dangerous for your pup because it can result in problems with joints at this age. So, choose other types of activities for exercising. Teach your doggy to walk on a leash, with frequent breaks, increasing the length of the walk gradually. Never walk your puppy in very hot or cold weather. If your pup shows the slightest signs of lameness, talk with your vet about it. The age of 6 months is the time when many behavioral problems can appear. It is connected with the period of puberty and hormonal disbalances. Your pup needs more independence, so it may wage a war against all your belongings if not trained properly. Chewing, tearing, and demolishing everything around is common. Even if your doggy has been potty-trained properly, it may have more accidents indoors now because it finds pleasure in looking for secret places for doing its business when indoors. Therefore, you have to show it who the boss in the household is and become a true leader of the pack for it. When playing, your pup may become rougher and try to dominate. It can get pushier with other dogs due to the start of its sexual maturity. Your pet can display a lot of boldness and attack other dogs fearlessly when walking in the park. It may also develop more aggressive reactions to other people, especially strangers. Even if it does know most commands, it may pretend to forget them because its hormones fluctuate. So, you need to be very careful to avoid incidents. Scent marking is another sign of puberty. The pup can do it inside your home and display disobedience if you try to prevent this. Female pups can experience the beginning of heat. It may cause them to feel subdued and insecure, so they become less sociable and even aggressive to their owners. You need a lot of patience and knowledge to train your doggy to behave properly at this age. Try to be persistent, provide it with more outdoor exercise, and never use force or physical punishment in response to its misbehavior. Increase the amount of exercise gradually to avoid bad injuries to the bones and joints. Find the most appropriate and appealing activities and games for your puppy to keep it healthy and out of trouble. Include mental stimulation in your everyday exercise. Offer it new brain challenges or mental games. Health and Care You need to be carefully observing whether your pup meets its weight and height requirements for this age. Learn to measure your doggy regularly to be on the safe side. Your pup has already had three vaccination sessions by this time. Neutering or spaying your pup is an issue that you may have to consider. However, most veterinarians do not approve of this at such an early age. It can result in joint disorders, incontinence, musculature injuries, and even cancer. They can be explained by lessening or eliminating the production of hormones associated with growth. The cartilage in long leg bones may get soft or even be missing, contributing to skeletal weaknesses. That is why you should delay neutering until your boy is one year old. Or, if your little male displays too many signs of disobedience and aggression due to its sexual development, delay neutering until the veterinarian X-rays your doggy and ensures that the growth plates are hardened and completely closed. As for female German Shepherds, the additional safety considerations for spaying should also be taken into account. Too early spaying can increase the risks of mammary cancer and urinary incontinence, along the common joint and bone issues. It is recommended to wait until your girl is one year old or even longer. Most breeders will tell you that a female German Shepherd should go through one or two heat cycles before spaying to reduce the risks of severe health issues. That is why the most desirable time for spaying the GS female is 18 months of its age. As for other health problems at the age of 6 months, you do not need to worry. If you want to know what to expect further, research the pedigree and ancestors of your pup to see whether there were any hereditary issues in their bloodline. You can also have a DNA test to predict future problems, such as degenerative myelopathy. However, you need to be watchful and careful about different signs and symptoms that may signal some temporary disorders. These symptoms may not mean anything serious. Though, it is always better to be sure. Feeding You need to feed your 6 month old German Shepherd puppy an appropriate diet with the correct number of calories and protein rates. It still grows rapidly, so you should be careful when choosing between high-quality puppy kibble and raw homemade feeding. The latter should include raw meats fish, turkey, or chicken are good and different vegetables and fruits. Do not offer your puppy too many treats during the daytime. Remember that they can be full of fats and lead to obesity. You do not want your pup to suffer from hip dysplasia or other health issues caused by being overweight. Arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, and even cancer can also result from improper diets. Give your puppy cups of kibble per each of 2 meals daily. Develop a feeding schedule and be consistent with following it. Self-feeding can also lead to obesity. Provide clean and fresh water to your dog, and you do not need to take the water bowl away. Your pup should have access to it whenever it wants. Never add any supplements or extra treats until your veterinarian recommends them. If your puppy refuses to eat for more than two subsequent meals, have a talk with your vet. You do not need to make a transition to adult food at this age yet. However, in some cases, it may be appropriate and recommended, even if normally such a transition is due closer to the age of one year. If you do not do it gradually, you may face digestive upset in your puppy. The start for a 6 month old GSD is not the best option because the socialization window closes at 4 months in German Shepherds, and you may encounter some behavioral issues now. Never use harsh, negative, or punishment-based methods of training. Your pup is very sensitive, and all this can damage its psyche. The positive, reward-based methods are more appropriate, and they will produce better results. Continue socialization by exposing your pet to unfamiliar animals and people in a friendly environment. Though, you need to be very careful now because hormone disbalance can evoke unpredictable reactions. German Shepherds tend to be enthusiastic barkers, so you have to discourage your pup from barking all the time. Teach it to inform you when someone unknown is approaching, but keep from barking all other times. Always control your doggy persistently. Instill that you are a leader to obey. Do training for at least minutes per day regularly and always use positive reinforcement. If you need help, ask a professional trainer to assist or teach you. It is pretty tall, with the height of a male reaching inches .Female dogs are a bit smaller, with inches cm in height. How much should a 6 month old German Shepherd weight? Your pet continues growing quickly, so its weight also increases. The average weight of a boy puppy is pounds .How much should a 6 month old German Shepherd eat? You can give your puppy cups of kibble per each of 2 meals daily. How much should a 6 month old German Shepherd sleep? Because of its almost full-sized bladder, your pup does not need a potty at night or may need it just once. Therefore, it can sleep peacefully the whole night. Normally, the average sleeping time is hours, with the biggest amount at night. Though, it may also need several naps in the daytime. How far can a 6 month old German Shepherd walk? Even if you think that your pup needs a lot of exercises, walking and running should not comprise the largest part of it. The puppy can walk up to 6 miles or 10 kilometers if it is needed, but never make it walk for such a long distance. Its bones and joints are not formed completely yet, so much walking can cause many health issues. Choose some other activities for exercising, then. Final Thoughts Now, you can see that your 6 month old GSD puppy is a source of both enjoyment and trouble. You should be very patient, persistent, and careful about feeding, training, and exercising your little one to raise a healthy, energetic, and loyal dog, the best companion and protector for all your family. Follow the advice of your veterinarian relating to health and care. You can also consult with a professional dog trainer or hire them to help you. We hope that some recommendations and tips in this article will also be helpful. David W. I admire German Shepherds. They are magnificent dogs! I have been dealing with dogs, namely German Shepherds, throughout my life. I have been working part-time as a dog trainer and instructor for about 5 years, dealing mainly with German Shepherds. So I know a bit about these animals. Therefore, I decided to share my knowledge and experience about this fantastic breed. If you need help with advice and care tips or want to know more about German Shepherd dogs, welcome to this blog. But your dog is still a puppy on the inside, and this is very important to remember. Your dog still has a lot of growing to do on the inside! A six-month-old German Shepherd puppy is going to need a lot of socialization and structured crate training and enough gentle exercise and play to keep all that energy under control. What to Expect as Your German Shepherd Turns Six Months Old German Shepherds are really smart , strong dogs, which can mean they are a handful to raise and train as they grow up and get bigger. If you are caring for a German Shepherd puppy right now or have ever done so in the past, you already know this! One of the biggest areas of anxiety for first-time German Shepherd owners is whether what they are experiencing with their dog is normal or not. For example, is it normal for a six-month-old German Shepherd puppy to be biting everything in sight? How about if a six-month-old German Shepherd puppy whines and barks a lot? What about appetite, portion size, and treats for a 6 month old German Shepherd? When should you transition to adult dog food and an adult dog portion size? And what about that all-important question — should you get your German Shepherd spayed or neutered and, if so, when should you do it? These are all intelligent questions that caring dog owners typically ask. So if you are wondering what the answers are, you are not alone — and you are about to find out in the sections to follow here. In most cases, the timing of neutering a male German Shepherd puppy is going to be different than the spaying of a female GSD. So we will look at each procedure separately here. When to neuter your male German Shepherd puppy However, as the University of California at Davis points out, a scary new study in the Journal of Veterinary Medicine and Science highlights the health risks of too-early neutering. Specifically, joint disorders, musculature injuries, cancer, and incontinence are all risks that are linked to neutering a German Shepherd before the age of 12 months one year old. Researchers believe the risks arise from how neutering lessens or eliminates the production of important hormones associated with reproduction and also with growth. When a male dog is neutered too early, the hormones that tell the soft cartilage growth plates in the long leg bones when to close go missing. This can delay reaching the final German Shepherd growth stages, cause bone overgrowth, contribute to skeletal weakness throughout life and might cause German Shepherds to stop growing. To reduce these risks, you may want to delay neutering your male puppies until after their first birthday and they are a full grown German Shepherd. Alternately, you may want to delay neutering until after your veterinarian has X-rayed your dog and determined that the growth plates have closed and hardened. When to spay your female German Shepherd puppy Choosing when to spay a female German Shepherd puppy comes with additional safety considerations and health threats beyond simply preventing unplanned pregnancy. Female German Shepherds that are spayed too early in life have an increased risk of mammary cancer and urinary incontinence along with more frequent and serious joint and skeletal issues. To lessen the risk of these issues, it is definitely important to wait until your female German Shepherd puppy has had her first birthday. But you may want to wait even longer, and here is why. Many breeders believe that a female German Shepherd should go through one to two successful full heat cycles before spaying. As owners posting on this popular German shepherds Forum explain, waiting until your female German Shepherd has had her second birthday can reduce the risk of later-in-life urinary incontinence even further. And then some owners and breeders will choose to spay at the halfway point of 18 months. Other neuter or spay considerations for a German Shepherd puppy It is also important to keep in mind that some K-9 programs, such as participation in formal military or police K-9 work, are only open to intact German Shepherds. If you want to enroll your dog in this type of program, be sure to check the requirements before proceeding with a neuter or spay procedure. For this reason, the German Shepherd Dog Club of America GSDCA explains that weight monitoring is an essential aspect of adjusting food portions during the age of three to six months old. By the age of six months old, your puppy should be eating twice per day. Make sure clean, fresh water is always available to your dog. Only feed your puppy a high-quality, complete, and balanced puppy food made for large-breed puppies ask your breeder or veterinarian if you are not sure what to feed. As we mentioned earlier in this article, a six-month-old German Shepherd puppy is likely going to look very similar to how it will look like an adult German Shepherd. But on the inside, there is still so much growing and developing to be done. What you feed, how you feed, and how much you feed can have everything to do with how strong and structurally healthy your GSD puppy grows up to be. Start by mixing 90 percent old food with 10 percent new food. Do this for one to two days. Then switch to 80 percent old food mixed with 20 percent new food. Continue until you are at percent new food. This system can ease digestive upset and temporary elimination issues like constipation or diarrhea that may arise when there is a big food switch. As the Central Texas Veterinary Hospital explains, German Shepherds as a breed can be particularly prone to issues of a sensitive stomach. This makes planning for a slow food transition especially critical to success for this breed. Training a Six Month Old German Shepherd Puppy According to expert dog trainers with the German Shepherd Dog Club of America , the type of puppy training your dog receives from the ages of two to six months is vital to raising a healthy, happy adult dog. Quite the contrary! So your GSD puppy may still be teething and biting on everything in sight to deal with that painful process. German Shepherds are high-strung, sensitive dogs and they are also strong and powerful. You can accomplish the same and even better training results using positive rewards-based reinforcement methods that will not damage your bond with your dog. Continue socialization with strange people and animals Your German Shepherd puppy will need ongoing exposure to strangers — people and animals — as part of the socialization and training process. You have total control over how you want your German Shepherd to respond when a strange person or animal crosses their path. You can teach your puppy how to alert you when an unknown individual approaches your home or crosses your path. If you are firm and consistent with your training through the teenage phase, hiring a professional K-9 trainer if you need to, your reward will be a well-behaved, well-trained adult dog that will guard, defend and protect you with their life. One reason for this is that as long as the growth plates stay soft, you risk injury if you over-exercise your dog. But the soft growth plates can be damaged if your German Shepherd puppy is allowed to run for extended periods of time, race up and down the stairs, do a lot of jumping or agility work or play too vigorously. Games like tug-of-war also bad for developing teeth. Throw-the-toy ball, stick games. Too-vigorous or rough play with other dogs or people. So at six months of age, your German Shepherd puppy should be exercising for 30 minutes six months times 5 minutes each day. But here again, make sure the exercise is appropriate for a young large breed dog that is still growing and developing internally. Using mental and sensory exercise aids like snuffle mats and treat puzzle toys and teething aids like iced Kongs and safe flavored chew toys can also provide much-needed exercise and enrichment for mind and body. This will help ensure your 6 month old German Shepherd grows up to be a healthy adult dog. It is fun to watch Sam demonstrate how he has mastered basic commands from multiple owners, which is very important to help your GSD puppy socialize and bond fully with all family members. The owner also talks about the formal K-9 training program Sam is enrolled in through their local German Shepherd dog club. This is a fun option for you and your dog that is worth checking out if you happen to have a local German Shepherd club in your community.
They are playful and loyal. Although Boxers were originally bred as working dogs, they make the perfect family pet. Boxers are different from each other but one trait that all Boxers have in common is their playfulness. Boxers, whether they're puppies or ones in their senior years, possess a youthful exuberance that is unmatched by any other breed of dog. Boxers have the natural ability to make their masters smile and fill a household with fun and laughter. Natural Born Entertainers Ask Boxer owners about what they think would be the most fitting profession or job for Boxer dogs and they'd likely tell you that Boxers make the perfect clowns. Boxers are natural entertainers wiggling, wagging and doing their funny antics. If you've ever been around a Boxer, you'll find it very hard to keep yourself from grinning. Put a Boxer in a room with someone in a bad mood and it will waste no time showing off its tricks to make a person laugh. One of the more familiar tricks Boxers are known for is kidney beaning, a dance they do whenever they are excited. No owner could resist smiling whenever he comes home after a hard day's work and sees his Boxer doing this dance. It isn't a bark although it is similar. Boxers are natural entertainers even when they are running. Don't be surprised to see a Boxer twist, jump and even do summersaults while it is out on a walk. However, Boxers aren't for everyone. If you're looking for a dog that will lie quietly at the foot of your bed or sleep most of the day, a Boxer is not the dog for you. Boxers are very energetic and they need plenty of attention. If a Boxer doesn't get adequate exercise every day, it can turn to doing destructive things or find ways to entertain itself like chewing on shoes. Boxers need to be walked or jogged twice a day at the minimum. In addition, they need mental stimulation. About Us A little about us. We are a Christian family located in Carroll, Iowa with a love for the Boxer breed and look forward to sharing in that love with others who enjoy the breed as well. We were introduced to the breed through family in through their Boxer named Layla. Not long after taking her in we thought why not share our love of the breed with others who have had one or are interested in getting their first one and so we decided to start breeding our Mya with a very reputable breeder. We do not do this as a business but as a hobby. We had our first successful litter of 10 happy and healthy puppies in June of and kept 2 females to add to our family and to produce additional litters in a couple of years. And so the saga begins! Loyalty, affection, intelligence, work ethic, and good looks: Boxers are the whole doggy package. A male can stand as high as 25 inches at the shoulder; females run smaller. Their muscles ripple beneath a short, tight-fitting coat. The dark brown eyes and wrinkled forehead give the face an alert, curious look. The coat can be fawn or brindle, with white markings. Boxers move like the athletes they are named for: smooth and graceful, with a powerful forward thrust. Boxers are upbeat and playful. Their patience and protective nature have earned them a reputation as a great dog with children. They take the jobs of watchdog and family guardian seriously and will meet threats fearlessly. Boxers do best when exposed to a lot of people and other animals in early puppyhood. Exercises Grooming From ancient Germany precisely around the 19th century had the now extinct mastiff breed Bullenbeisser and bulldogs brought in from England. At the time of their arrival, they served as hunting dogs for bears, deer, and other ferocious beasts, it would capture the prey with the help of its awesome teeth and detain it until the hunter arrives. And in the first boxer standard club was launched with a comprehensive document that is still in use today. Shortly after, the breed made its way into other European countries and got into the U. S in the late 19th century with the American Kennel Club taking registration of its first boxer around .During the first world war, boxers played the role of a military dog as a pack-carrier, a guard dog, and an attack dog, later they were taken home by the soldiers and got introduced into the domestic world as a show dog, best companion, and a reliable guard. One with so much life, energetic, curious, attentive, active, smart, sociable and incredible fun with children is the boxer, they are also known to be very patient and highly protective of their family members making them the love and desire of many homes. As active dogs, they need a lot of exercise to keep them mentally fit, apparently having a mind of its own, you will find your boxer entertain itself by digging the ground often, chewing, and licking the mouth to beat boredom. They are also very stubborn in character which makes them a terrible choice for first-timers with dogs, they are generally a bit difficult with adult dogs including dogs of a similar breed but friendly with puppies. They usually do not bark unless there is a genuine reason behind it but they love to growl. If you have occupied home with people around all the time or you want a canine buddy the whole time, then a boxer is just the perfect breed to get. Being a highly active dog, they dread loneliness and they can cope finely in both a house and an apartment as long as you provide it with enough room and spaces for exercises and activities. What you must have is a large yard if you are living in a house for it to dig the ground and run around as it likes. And more so, if you are given to being away from home most of the time, getting a boxer may not be the best for you and the dog, because they usually get aggressive when left alone. Boxers are known as loud snorers and they drool greatly too. Boxers are playful and very energetic dogs as such regular exercises are part of a good canine relationship, especially a breed of this sort. Your boxer should be allowed to play in a fenced area and on-leashed since it is likely to jump and leap around in excitement. This puts a boxer as a bad choice for a frail owner as they may find it a tad impossible and daunting keeping up with its excessive activity demands. Being a breed with a short and thin coat its grooming demands are quite easy and little, all it needs is a light brushing of the hair twice every week to maintain its good and gleeful looks. Bathing should be a once in a while since boxers are generally clean dogs and its nails, be trimmed once every month or as often as they grow worn on surfaces, its teeth should also be brushed daily to avoid tartar formation and other dental crises. It means that their skull has a different shape as compared to another dog. So just like all these dog breeds, Boxer dogs will snore a lot and the reason is their specific skull anatomy. Snoring is not considered a serious health condition. However, it is due to airflow obstruction which can result in some other serious respiratory diseases. However, not all Boxer dogs will inherit this condition. Canine hip dysplasia Depending upon the body type and size of the Boxer dog, there are chances that it may suffer from hip dysplasia. This disease is also an inherited trait but this condition can also be due to injuries. Another term used for describing hip dysplasia is dislocation of the hip joint. For years, dogs from this German Shepherd breeder have been actively participating in various national and international breed shows. A guarantee is also given to customers upon purchase. The German Shepherds in Van Der Otto are bred to be excellent protectors for kids and families and as working dogs. This is a result of the dog experience of the founders. Since they are ex-law enforcers, they have seen the exceptional traits of a German Shepherd first-hand. During pregnancy, the females are kept in the home of Otto and are given the attention needed. Puppies are also exposed to socialization at an early age as they believe it helps in the growth and development of the dogs. Von Der Otto has two properties where puppies and dogs are brought to run freely and train. German Shepherd pups are trained to attain superb temperament to be family companions or protectors. This breeder is also involved in training shepherds for k9 sports, law enforcement, and therapeutic services. Another great thing about this breeder is that they have dedicated facilities where the dogs could freely play and train. Their acre property is solely structured to provide the dogs the space they need to enjoy and train. Training obstacles are also present in the vicinity. Different training programs were established to address the needs that vary from simple tasks to advanced training. As early as five months old, puppies can already be enrolled and trained in a special program in this breeding facility. If you are interested in purchasing a German Shepherd puppy in Jagermeister, it is highly suggested that you should make a reservation as early as possible. In addition, although their open field is spacious, they only have limited space for boarding and training programs so you should make an appointment earlier. They started with only four young German Shepherd pups which over time have grown into more than 50 litters. One of the edges that Austerlitz has been upholding to is the dedication of each member in studying and improving their breeding process. All of the breeders and trainers in their facility have at least 20 years of breeding experience with some even granted with AKC Breeder of Merit. They see puppy raising as a delicate task that must involve rigorous planning to accomplish. They even have their own puppy raising protocol which they call puppy culture! A vast amount of effort and attention is given to puppy training, health examination, emotional stability exercises, and behavioral training. From an early age, the trainers in the facility are already teaching the German Shepherd puppies basic polite communication and early toilet training. Producing excellent companion dogs with the ability to become outstanding working companions is the specialization of Austerlitz. They only breed shepherds with exclusive German bloodlines to hone their intelligence and obedience further. Some of the GSDs in their facility have proven their value by winning regional and national competitions. For years, they have been dedicated to selectively breeding healthy and fine European German Shepherd puppies. Nutritional completeness and consistency in the diet are also observed in the nutrition of the dogs. This German Shepherd breeder also makes sure to adhere to the standards in breeding German Shepherds as provided by kennel organizations. The application process is quite simple as they have an application form that is accessible on their website. Upon purchase, you will also be entitled to a lifetime return policy. Since GSDs are mainly used as working dogs and show dogs, training is imperative in raising them. After purchasing the puppy, what you need to be aware of then are the expenses for the food, health maintenance, supplies, beddings, toys, and other pet essentials. The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article. AKC does not control breeding, approve litters, or guarantee temperaments. AKC Registration is automatic if you buy from a reputable breeder — they will provide all necessary paperwork when you buy a puppy. golden retriever puppy memes - Puppy pads Create a Schedule German Shepherd pups would do well with a schedule. Dogs live with a routine, and they are easy to train by having one. For this reason, make a schedule of the things you need to do regularly. Eventually, your pup will learn the routine events and will make itself adept at them. It will help you prepare for your pet, especially in the first few days of living together. As you allow your pet to adjust, do your best to create a stress-free environment for it. Always supervise it as it familiarizes itself with its new home. Still, it would be best to prepare yourself for loud noises when your pet is asleep. Moderate Training German Shepherds are highly trainable. It simply means they respond well, especially to positive reinforcement. Squeaky Toys Out of all toys, your pet will love the squeaky ones. For this reason, prepare for a lot of loud squeaks every time your pet is active. Thus, in picking your pet, you may want to consider getting it from the best. Tells you any health problems A good breeder will tell you any significant health problems in any of the dogs he or she bred. Asks more questions than you A good breeder would ask for more items from you than you would for him or her. Not in a hurry to send off A good breeder is not in a hurry to send the puppies off and get your money. He or she will even show you other breeders and veterinarians caring for their dogs. Requires expectations on both sides A good breeder will create a contract that offers not only what he or she expects from you. More than that, he or she will also show what you can expect from him or her. Sends puppies properly A good breeder will never send a puppy in a compartment and without any responsible person to go with it. Works only with one or two breeds A good breeder works only with a single or a couple of species. Shows breeding experience A good breeder shows her dogs in recognized confirmation shows. He or she will also join his or her breed in other breed-related performance events. Other states. The original breeders also wanted to produce a dog which was free of the many health and temperament problems, which has been affecting German Shepherd Dogs. So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments.
