I got my first American Bulldog July .I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I knew nothing about the breed just knew that I had a beautiful little female pup that had bright blue eyes; I was in love and thought she was the most beautiful dog to ever grace the planet. After a few short days I realized she couldn't hear a thing. I was no where near prepared or ready to take on the responsibility of a deaf dog, so she was returned to the breeder and I got a male; who I named Kane. He was a great dog and really sparked something in me to learn more about what an American Bulldog was; and thus the research started. Fast forward a few years and I had my daughter. Kane was amazing with her; very patient, loving, and protective. Kane was just a wonderful all around dog, and I knew one day I wanted another one. I eventually moved to Las Vegas with my husband at the time and could not bring him with us; so he stayed in Alaska. Once we were settled I convinced him to get 2 American Bulldogs. I loved my pups but quickly realized there were issues with both Deuce and Baby. But I still had no idea quite what I was doing. Baby had temperament issues and Deuce had some health issues. Well I was in the mind-set that many are when they get new dogs I was gonna bred them and hope to make my money back. So I started on the venture of becoming a breeder. I didn't at the time fully understand the importance of temperament when dealing with these large dogs. All I knew was they were pretty great with my family but "protective" of them. Baby was not protective in the sense that it should be used. She was scared and would have bitten out of fear not protection I did not fully understand that for a long time. I bred Baby twice; the first litter I had no real issues other then a pup with skin allergies. By this time I was pretty involved in going to and competing in conformation with my dogs. I found out quick that it is not fun or cool to have a dog either shy away or try and bite the judge very embarrassing. Angel who was my keeper was great as a puppy. She did well in the ring and was a great little girl at home. I also had another standard dog at the time named Buttons. Both of the girls were doing good and I was doing a lot of socialization with Angel. Well it didn't end up doing much good as by the time she was mths old she became very skittish and nervy of everything. I kept working with her thinking I could change temperament and make her better. In the end I had to put her down as she was very unpredictable and was afraid of everything. This is when temperament came to the fore front and the base of what I was going to do and look for in my dogs. The most healthy dog isn't worth much if it can't go anywhere or be around people. I got the chance to pick up Tiko as an adult from a friend of a friend. She was a Lewis dog from out in Cali. She wasn't much to look at when I got her but I saw potential. She was a great dog and hadn't really been exposed to much other then the family she lived with her first year and a half. But she didn't shy or get scared of anything. I knew her temperament was want I wanted and what I wanted to lock in. I thought a long time about who I was going to breed her to. My girlfriend Chrssy at Planks Pride had a litter back in the early years when we lived in Vegas out of Roxy and Bossman. I knew one day I wanted to be able to breed to one of the dogs from that litter; and with Tiko I had that chance. We did the breeding and it resulted in a litter with 6 boys and 1 girl. I originally planned on keeping a female but with just one she had to be stellar and out shine all the males. Well although she was a great pup both in looks, structure, and temperament she didn't quite do it for me. I decided to keep a male instead. There was a little red and white male who I had always liked but wasn't set on him either; so I kept 3 males for evaluation. He had been attached to me since he was a baby, and he was my favorite color. He had impressed from the first time he stepped into the show ring as an 8 week old puppy in the puppy fun match. My daughter showed him both times and in a ring with 8 other dogs including his 2 brothers he took 1st place. He continued to place 1st in his class from then on. He had a nice working drive, great temperament even as a young pup, and had great structure. That pup is Fraizer, and he is what I strive to produce. He has a strong solid temperament, good drive, the ability to do anything that is asked of him, and he is a go anywhere do anything kinda dog. He is what I think all bulldogs should be, whether they look like him or not. A bulldog should be able to be around people and different situations and be trustworthy enough not to cause problems either by growling or attempting to bite people or other dogs; and a bulldog should never be shy or skittish. Hi everyone! I am looking for a family that would love me as much as I will love them! I was unfortunately in a car accident a few months ago that left me with some gait instability. At first, I was paralyzed in my hindlegs. But I underwent two spinal surgeries and after some long, hard recovery, I am now able to walk short distances! With some help with my balance, I can go even further! Not to toot my own horn, but I quickly became a neighborhood favorite! My other challenge is occasional bladder and bowel incontinence. When the accident happened, at first, I lost complete control of both, and needed to be expressed. But I appreciate you being understanding about my recovery. Their breed is very elegant looking, no matter the size, and they always stand poised. Their eyes are also small, dark and are always alert and they have a long muzzle with floppy furry ears. Coat Their coat is curled and thick and they do not shed any fur. This means they are a hypoallergenic dog and are perfect for those with allergies. Unlike other Poodle mix dogs who may have a mixture of different fur colors, this dog only comes in solid colors. This way, you can determine whether you are being sold a purebred Poodle or not. They are extremely loving and make great companions for everyone, including individuals, families and the elderly. Because of their size, too, they fit into many different environments and will do well in apartments and in city living and also in large homes in the country or in open-spaced environments. Their exercise needs are not great, although they do get bored very easily and do not like to be left alone. If they are left alone for too long they will begin to suffer from separation anxiety and exhibit destructive behaviors. Lifespan The life expectancy of a Teacup dog is relatively long. Some of these problems are similar to the issues that may be carried by their standard sized ancestors due to their genetic similarities. These include: Progressive Retinal Atrophy PRA — this is an eye disorder that eventually causes blindness from the loss of photoreceptors at the back of the eye. Dysplasia — this is normally seen in large dogs but can affect different joints in the body. Also, because of their selective breeding and small size, they are also prone to some other health issues. You should always check with the breeder you are buying from to see whether the dogs show any signs of these problems. The three most common are hypoglycemia low blood sugar , heart defects and patella luxation. Patella luxation is a common condition in smaller dogs and is caused when the patella is not properly aligned. This can cause lameness in the leg or an abnormal gait, sort of like a skip or a hop. If they gain a little more than that its ok. Some tiny ones are a bit slower to gain weight. The tinier the puppy usually this is anything under 4 oz I always supplement. Suggested weight gain for new born minaiture poodle puppies I like to see my miniature poodle puppies gain atleast an ounce per day up until the age of 4 weeks. Once again if they gain a little more than that its ok. Usually miniature poodle puppies are around oz at birth unless you have a very large litter. A large litter would be 8 or over. Anything under that oz and again I would supplement. Suggested weight gain in standard poodle puppies Where standards can have very large litters of up to 11 or more puppies you can get quite a variety of weight ranges. The smaller the litter the more likely the puppies are to be large at birth. Usually you will get puppies anywhere from 10 oz to over one lb. Its a general rule of thumb that a standard puppy should gain 1 lb per week. Many standard puppies will be one lb and one week, two lbs at two weeks, and so on. Dont worry if you have a smaller litter and they are a bit bigger than that. If you have a huge litter its a good idea to supplement the litter to help your bitch out. If you follow the food manufacturing guidelines on how much to feed based on the weight and age of the puppy, this is a great place to start. Consulting your veterinarian, you can then make adjustments as a puppy develops considering its weight gain and addressing any concerns that arise. The time and energy spent starting at day one in the whelping box until puppies leave with their new families is well worth the effort. Teacup and tiny toy poodles are still toy poodles, only smaller. There is no separate classification for them. Height: A puppy will grow at least 8cm more from the 8 week stage until maturity. Meaning a puppy that is 13cm tall at 8 weeks will be at least 21cm at adulthood. If you want a small not so tall teacup, make sure the puppy you are thinking of buying is no taller than 13cm at 8 weeks. Puppies may or may not grow very much between 8 and 12 weeks, depending on if they are in the teacup range or not. This is why we choose to keep our puppies until they are 10 to 12 weeks of age so we can better judge an approximate adult size. Weight: Teacup poodle puppies are born very small, they usually weigh between 70g and g at birth. Most puppies in a litter are born about the same size, give or take a bit. They may even grow and gain weight at the same rate as each other. It is impossible to tell what the adult size of a 2 to 3 week puppy will be. Parental genetics are a good indicator but not an absolute. We cannot be sure what its adult size will be until the puppy is at least 6 weeks of age and even then it is a guesstimate. We will have a much more accurate estimation when the puppy reaches 12 weeks of age. Teacups and tiny toy poodles are usually finished growing in height by 6 to 8 months but will still fill out a little more. We do our very best to estimate the adult size of our puppies based on previous litters if applicable , sizes of parents and their ancestors as well as the toy poodle growth chart shown above.
