We planned Lilly's arrival to coincide with school holidays so my son and daughter 14 and 11 at the time had her home for the first weeks. She was a little older when we picked her up as the breeder had kept her longer until after our holiday - around 11 weeks. Here is the first potential stumbling block - the kids were doing the basic training, really, not ideal, and I guess if you handed this over to someone else, you would need to know what they were doing, and HOW they were doing it with your pup. When the kids went back to school, Lilly was home alone from 8. By that stage we rarely had accidents, and the lunchtime visits only lasted about a fortnight as she was more interested in playing than popping out for a pit stop. Hobbes came to us as troubled rescue, and then Abigale, who Ania put up with in the last months of her life, and who now partially fills the hole in my heart that Ania left behind. Each of our adult Standard Poodles get groomed every 8 to 10 weeks, so the grooming is a never-ending cycle. Erica begins her day with a quick hands-on inspection of all the babies. She gives medication, routine wormers and vaccines. Erica weighs and individually identifies each puppy with different colors of fingernail polish the day they are born. For three weeks all our Standard Poodle puppies are weighed every day. All of that attention to babies must have affected her, because in early , Erica gave birth to a beautiful baby girl that looks like a china doll. Her name is Kaelyn.
