Life Span Did You Know? The Maltipoo is a designer dog breed that originated in the United States and is a cross between a Maltese and a Miniature Poodle. Because it is a mixed dog breed, it is not recognized by the American Kennel Club. It is known for being a good companion dog that is a great family pet and can adapt well to almost any living situation. This designer breed has an affectionate, gentle nature and a fun-loving, charming personality. Maltipoos tends to be open and friendly. They get along well with children, other pets, other dogs, and strangers. They can be prone to barking, which makes them an alert watchdog. Socialization and training early on can help you direct the urge to bark towards more positive outlets and help your dog understand what they should bark at and what is okay for them to ignore. The Maltipoo is a devoted dog that loves attention and lots of cuddles. Maltipoos are highly adaptable. They do well in any family type, from large families to single owners and everything between. They get along well with children, but younger children should be closely supervised and taught early on how to interact appropriately with a dog. Your Maltipoo can be injured easily by a falling toddler or accidental rough play. The Maltipoo can adapt well to any living situation. They are not overwhelmed by large homes and yards and fit right in with apartment living. They crave attention and love being around their humans, so they should not be left alone for long periods of time. They also adapt well to a variety of climates. As with most dogs, they are sensitive to extreme heat or cold, but they can usually handle a wider variety of temperatures than other small dog breeds. Maltipoos are generally healthy dogs. As with all breeds, even crossbreeds, there are some health conditions to be aware of. Some of these include epilepsy, patellar luxation, and progressive retinal atrophy. Health clearances and DNA test results for the parents can help to allay any concerns about health conditions. Maltipoos are a great fit for owners of any experience level, including first-time dog owners. They are intelligent and highly trainable. They learn quickly and are eager to please their owners. Because they are sensitive, Maltipoos do not respond well to harsh tones or scolding. They respond best to training that stays positive and uses rewards, praise, and play. Because both of the parent breeds are considered low or non-shedding, the Maltipoo will often also have a low or non-shedding hypoallergenic coat. Their coat tends to be fluffy and soft. The length can range from medium to long and the type can be slightly wavy or curly. They do need to be brushed daily and bathed monthly to keep their coat healthy, clean, and free of tangles. Professional grooming or clipping the coat a few times a year can also help keep your Maltipoo cool in the summer and their coat looking good year-round. Their nails should be trimmed once or twice a month as needed and their teeth should be brushed regularly. A few times a week is usually sufficient to keep tartar buildup at bay and reduce the risk of dental problems like tooth decay or gum disease, but brushing once a day is ideal. Get your puppy used to having their paws, ears, and mouth handled early on to ensure regular grooming and vet exams are much easier when they are older. The Maltipoo has a moderate activity level. Daily exercise with a few walks, some running in the yard, a game of fetch, or a trip to the dog park will ensure your Maltipoo gets plenty of exercise. A Maltipoo usually stands 8 to 14 inches tall and weighs between 5 and 20 pounds. Looking at the size of the parents will often give you a good idea of the size your Maltipoo puppy might become as they grow. This designer dog breed generally lives for 10 to 13 years. The Maltipoo tends to maintain a puppy-like appearance and behavior throughout their life. Featured Maltipoo Article. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. My fascination for this breed actually began as a child while growing up in Great Britain. The yearly outing with my father was one I looked forward to with much anticipation. Years later I married my husband, Gene. It was always my ambition to one day bring a boxer into our own family, to be raised together with our two young sons. In we ventured out to purchase our first American bred boxer. Both my husband and I consider ourselves very fortunate indeed to have been able to purchase a beautiful, show potential brindle bitch named Chelsea from Glenn and Zona Grupe of Glennroe Boxers. Attending shows together, Zona and I put four owner-handled majors in quick succession on our beautiful Chelsea. As our foundation bitch, she launched Telstar on its way to success. Much more, I might add, than my wildest dreams. Striving to do the very best we possibly can in every aspect of raising, breeding and showing our own dogs has enabled me to enjoy the benefits of knowing our achievements have come from our love and devotion for the Boxer. Showing and breeding has had additional perks. I have had the great fortune of meeting many wonderful people along the way. As a boxer breeder, I also derive a great deal of satisfaction when placing a pet puppy in a companion home, knowing that these buyers benefit not only from our philosophy of breeding a quality, healthy, structurally sound boxer, but also from having the joy and love of owning one. I still enjoy competing as an owner handler, and oddly enough, still feel that same overwhelming sense of accomplishment being on the other end of the leash when I finish the championship on one of my dogs. The feeling is no different than I felt in the beginning, some thirty years ago. The Fox family prefers to register their purebreds with the American Canine Association ACA and holds a 5 Star rating with them for their focus on quality bloodlines. She provided all pertinent information and more regarding the process and puppy. My dog was healthy and his veterinarian was very happy with his progress. All necessary paperwork provided by Miriam was completed and ready when I arrived. My pup is friendly and a joy to have. They were forthcoming with all the relevant information regarding their breeding process and puppy health precautions they take. The puppies were exactly as promised and given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian. They have friendly dispositions and are so observant and are adapting quickly. The whole experience was better than I could have hoped for! She was easily potty trained and at 21 months old has become the boss of the house. She was loved by hospice nursed and aides when my husband was going through vascular dementia and was at his side with me when he passed. I don't know what I'd do without her. She goes to doggie daycare when I am at work and loves it! She has her own seat in my car and loves to go anywhere. The Fox's made sure we got a healthy puppy, had her well socialized and I would definitely go to them if I was looking for another puppy. Formerly known at Micky and Misty Glenn and Miriam were wonderful to work with. Miriam was a pleasure to work with. We will definite call her in the future to adopt more pups! Thanks so much Miriam! He is so sweet and perfect! She came for us in November and is the best thing that happened in our lives. She is the best Yorkieshire ever, so sweet and passionate. So calm and lovely, she is always around me or my husband. Miriam was a pleasure to work with and Now our little dude is turning five soon we are thinking about getting him a brother at some point and we will definitely be going back to this breeder. Could not be any happier with our little Morkie dude. He's a happy healthy maltipoo and we had a great interaction with Miriam Fox and her husband. The puppy area was clean and well lit. I would highly recommend Glenn and Miriam Fox to acquire a puppy. We are in love with Ivy, previously Twinkle. She is well socialized and was obviously in good hands prior to us picking her up. Glen and Miriam were both very informative, easy to work with and gave us everything we needed prior to taking Ivy home. Miriam gave us a follow up call to make sure everything was going well. We strongly recommend them to anyone who is considering buying a puppy. We visited every week from 3 weeks old on. The first puppy we chose wasn't doing well so Miriam offered us another from the litter of 3. We named her Angel because we felt an Angel led her to us. She has been a joy. Miriam impressed us with the care she gives all her puppies. She always answered my questions honestly and was a pleasure to work with. She was recommended by the Vet we used when we had our other Yorkies so we trusted that and didn't regret it. Miriam is a jewel and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a puppy. Miriam is on point and will give you everything you need including all the necessary vet checks and paperworks before the puppy is picked up. Miriam is very communicative and gives precise instructions. We had to drive 5 hours from NYC to pick him up and all worth it. Duke has been the best addition to our family. Thank you Fox Kennels. All the best. She explained that she had a litter on the way and I would be placed on the list. I waited a month and received a call from Miriam letting me know that she had 2 females born out of 5 puppies. After a few weeks I was provided photos and updates on the female pups. We visited after the puppies were 4 weeks old, She took great measure in explaining that puppies are not released until after 8 weeks and it was under her discretion if they need an extra week to be weened away. Bubbles is so loves to be cuddled and gets along very well with our senior male dogs, Shiba Inu and Coton de Tulear. She is as healthy and happy as can be. We were truly fortunate to have gotten a puppy from Miriam. I highly recommend speaking to them about acquiring your new puppy! They were a pleasure to work with. We drove 10 hours to get her. We are in total love. Miriam is very knowledgeable and a great breeder. We highly recommend the Fox's! Molly is 1 year old and a Morkie breed. Sadie is 6 years old and a Lhasa poo. She has brought us happiness, playfulness, energy, and unconditional love. She is as beautiful as she is well behaved. We highly recommend Glenn and Miriam Fox as being exceptional in their field. They were easy to work with and helpful, as Daisy is our first family pet. They are Five Star in every category. Thank you. His name was Blitz, now goes by Chester, is in excellent health and is such a good puppy! Miriam was so nice to work with and had great communication. It was the first family dog, and he was worth the trip. In the weeks leading up to making the trip she promptly returned all my calls and patiently answered all of my many questions. Her facility is clean and you can tell how loved the puppies are. I have had Ollie for three months now and getting him was the best decision. He is smart, loving and has the best temperament. I can not say enough good things about Miriam and the amazing dogs she breeds. When none were available locally, we were directed to Greenfield Puppies by a dear friend who had been very pleased with her experience with this organization. We echo that sentiment fold! I spoke with several of the breeders; all were prompt in returning calls, polite, and helpful. She has been with us now for 6 weeks; happy and healthy, she is a joy! I have already recommended Greenfield Puppies to others and would not hesitate to look to them again in the future. She is the most amazing and smart puppy. Miriam was great with answering all my questions and being very flexible with my pick up date. She made the process so smooth and efficient which was fantastic due to our long drive back to NY. Thank you for giving me the best baby ever! Stoogie just turned 3 months and he is the most adorable, loving puppy ever.
Yorkshire Terriers Shih Tzus Congenital hydrocephalus may also result from a brain hemorrhage in a newborn after difficult labor, exposure to certain drugs during pregnancy, or prenatal infection. Acquired hydrocephalus may appear due to a Vitamin A deficiency, parainfluenza virus, intracranial inflammatory disease, swelling in the brain, or other infection. However, the most common cause of acquired hydrocephalus in dogs is brain tumors. The goal is to reduce the inflammation or the production of cerebrospinal fluid. Usually, vets prescribe corticosteroids this purpose. Sometimes, they may also prescribe anti-seizure drugs and other medications to treat the symptoms. However, in some cases, surgery is the best option for treatment. The procedure involves placing a shunt that redirects cerebrospinal fluid away from the brain and into the abdominal cavity where it can then be easily reabsorbed by the body. This surgery requires a brain surgeon and is usually expensive, so many dogs never receive it and are euthanized, instead. Vets generally treat cases of acquired hydrocephalus by focusing on the underlying causes. They may use medication, surgery, or radiation and chemotherapy in cases of tumors. When treatment begins early, it can prevent brain damage, and dogs can mostly make a full recovery. Have you ever cared for a dog with hydrocephalus? Did your vet treat the condition? Then let us know in the comments below. Are certain breeds more likely to develop hydrocephalus? Small, miniature, and toy breeds seem to be more affected. Hydrocephalus Puppy: low and back set ears, bulging eyes, large domed head How is hydrocephalus diagnosed? In young puppies, a large fontanel and clinical signs consistent with hydrocephalus are usually all that are needed to diagnose congenital hydrocephalus. Including bulging eyes and low, back set ears. Ultrasound evaluations through the fontanel can reveal dilated or enlarged brain ventricles open areas in each half of the brain. Brain scans using computed tomography CT or magnetic resonance imaging MRI can also be used to diagnose hydrocephalus. Electroencephalography EEG , which involves connecting electrical sensors onto the head in multiple locations, may also be used to aid in diagnosing hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus Dog Scan How is hydrocephalus treated? In the acute or early phases of hydrocephalus, treatment is directed toward reducing CSF production and inflammation by using corticosteroids steroids, such as cortisone or prednisone. In more severe or chronic cases, anti-seizure medications will be needed, and drugs may benefit affected dogs. Shunt for Hydrocephalus Surgery to place a tube that runs from the open spaces in the brain to the abdomen can be performed at some veterinary teaching or specialty hospitals. Considerable risks and potential complications are associated with this procedure, so be sure to thoroughly discuss the benefits and risks of shunts with your veterinarian. For acquired hydrocephalus, therapy is focused on treating the underlying cause and may range from medications to surgery to radiation therapy. Should dogs with congenital hydrocephalus be bred? Absolutely not. Because congenital hydrocephalus is a birth defect. What is the prognosis for dogs with hydrocephalus? In general, hydrocephalus in dogs is a serious, often life-threatening, condition. The forecasted outcome for hydrocephalus depends on its duration and severity. Puppies with congenital hydrocephalus may do well following shunt placement if severe brain damage has not occurred. Our experience with hydrocephalus is not a pleasant one. The two pups we have worked with failed to thrive and it was recommended by our vet to move forward with humane euthanasia. Dogs with acquired hydrocephalus have a poorer prognosis due to the likelihood of an underlying tumor or infection such as encephalitis inflammation of the brain. How common is hydrocephalus in dogs? Our veterinarian once told me years ago that this defect is to be expected 1 out of every puppies produced in all breeds with large domed heads examples above. I have experienced this defect twice now. One was in one of my own litters and the other was in a litter I was whelping for someone else. Prior to his loss, he has only pooped maybe 5 times during those 5 weeks. We tried enemas and warm water baths. We were sucking his nose every 30 minutes with an electric nasal aspirator. We tried steam to clear the airways and nebulizer treatments. He was also on antibiotics and had been given subcutaneous fluid treatment as well as cupping tapping the sides of the chest to break up phlegm and release fluid in lungs. The other puppy we worked with, was euthanized at 3 weeks of age. He had a massive open fontanel I could feel his brain and was unable to walk or nurse. He frequently circled and did not tolerate feedings well at all. Canine Open Fontanel Images What are open fontanels? They can be normal in young puppies, especially small breeds, but they typically close or harden by weeks of age. In some breeds, such as Chihuahuas and Miniature Dachshunds, it is not uncommon for open fontanelles to persist beyond 12 weeks of age. Open fontanelles are a normal finding in very young puppies. As normal puppies mature, the growth plates in their skull fuse together and the soft spots known as open fontanelles gradually reduce in size until they no longer exist. Persistent open fontanelles, however, are a common genetic condition that is seen in some small dog breeds. In these dogs, persistent open fontanelles are caused by genetic abnormalities in normal developmental skull closure. The growth plates in these dogs simply fail to fuse in a normal manner, leaving a persistent soft spot in the skull. In some cases, open fontanelles may be caused by an underlying brain condition, such as hydrocephalus. Cerebrospinal fluid CSF accumulates within the brain, causing the brain to swell. This swelling places pressure on the skull, which can contribute to open fontanelles, a dome-shaped skull, and other abnormalities. Fortunately, most cases of open fontanelles are genetic and are not associated with hydrocephalus. Conclusion These issues and whelping in general are not for the faint of heart. Im thankful to have given them the best chance at life I could. There will be times when nature has intended for a pup to not make it, but because of your love and care, that pup may live much longer than expected or even come back to live a completely normal life. Back in , I was visiting a neighboring farmer buying some hay. Upon walking into his backyard, I was greeted by 10 adorable black Lab puppies -- all attacking my shoe strings. At that very moment, seeing all the love they gave, I knew what I was destined to do. Over the next several years, I absorbed as much knowledge as possible about Labradors and breeding. I went all across the United States and purchased great breeding stock pups based on bloodlines, conformation and disposition in order to produce very high quality Labradors. Through the years, we have kept our business small because we love our dogs and feel the need to give them all the attention and love required by a Labrador. Additional Resources: This post is about how to get a dog through Craigslist. When looking for a dog to adopt on Craigslist, you pull up your nearest city first. Dogs being re-homed on Craigslist If you are interested in a young or middle-aged large dog such as a Lab, lab mix, shepherd mix or pitbull, you might be able to find one in need of a new home on Craiglist. Depending on where you live, some of the dogs listed for re-homing on Craigslist are listed by their current owners. Most of these people had good intentions but for whatever reason they need to find their dog a new home. Usually they state the reason is they do not have enough time for the dog or they are moving or they are not providing the dog with enough exercise. But … know that on Craigslist you will also have to weed through a lot of posts about purebred puppies avoid those. And there are also a lot of listings for cats, kittens and small animals which you can scroll on by unless you are looking for one of those animals. Shelters and rescues listing dogs on Craigslist Sometimes rescue groups and shelters will list some of their dogs for adoption on Craigslist. This is to get more exposure to the animals. In this case, the listing will direct you to their website to fill out their usual application. Puppy scams on Craigslist There are people listing purebred puppies or trendy mixed breed puppies on Craigslist, which I recommend you avoid at all costs. For example, French bulldogs, mini goldendoodles and mini Australian shepherds, to name a few. Get realistic dog training tips emailed once a week. Good breeders have no reason to list their puppies on Craigslist. A good breeder has no reason to post their puppies on Craigslist because they have a long wait list and more inquiries than they need. They almost always have a waiting list. They will not have immediate puppies available for the first person willing to pay. Responsible, good breeders can charge a lot of money for their dogs. As they should. But, a good breeder who really cares about the dog will start out by asking you about your lifestyle, why you want a dog, why you are a good fit for this breed, etc. Pay in cash only and never pay until you meet the dog Use common sense and trust your gut. This goes without saying, but never send someone from Craigslist a check or give out your credit card info. Instead, meet them in person with another family member or friend and pay in Cash only, and only after you have met the dog in person. Never send someone money before you meet the dog. Is it really OK to get a dog from Craigslist? You just need to know what to avoid. There are pros and cons to searching for a dog on Craigslist. How about I list some of the benefits now! Here you go: 1. A private adoption through Craigslist is generally easier than going through a rescue group. There is a high demand for rescue dogs through shelters and rescue groups and therefore most can afford to be very selective about who can adopt. For example, they might require you to have a fenced yard, show proof of income or agree never to use a chain or slip collar. The adoption process is often long and complicated with home visits and reference checks. Usually, there are others ahead of you on the list for a specific dog. Some might also ask for references to help them know the dog is going to a good home but most will not. Then you can schedule a good time to meet in person. This is what I did when I got my Lab mix Ace and it was a very positive experience for me. And the fees are certainly negotiable, if there is a fee at all. When I adopted my Lab mix Ace, his previous owner did not ask for any money at all. She just wanted the dog to go to a good home and she knew she would be saving money in the longterm by re-homing him. Often, the dog will come with items such as a dog kennel, dog bed, bowls, food, treats, a leash, collar and toys because the previous owner will have no use for these items anymore. This is not always the case, but usually the dog will have had vaccinations at least at some point. The dog might also be spayed or neutered already. You should ask for written records. You can learn a lot about a dog before adopting. Before I adopted my dog Ace, I had a chance to ask his current owner all kinds of questions , and she was happy to answer. Does he do OK with cats? How much exercise does he need? How does he do in a kennel? Has he had any accidents? Would he make a good running buddy? How does he do with other dogs? Can he be left alone? This is not a jab at shelters. This is a definite benefit! Click Here 5. Dogs listed on Craigslist are often trained and well socialized. Many of these dogs have had at least some basic training. By that, I mean they are at least housebroken and know the basics like sit and stay. Many have lived with other dogs or cats or children and have at least been walked on a leash before. I already mentioned some of the common scams and types of listings to avoid. Here are some of the other cons: 1. Some people are difficult to deal with. They might ask dozens of questions which is probably good. They might ask to see your home or to speak with references. Remember, it is their choice. Try to keep in mind all of this is usually because they want the very best for the dog. Just try to be happy they are making an effort to find the dog a good home. If the person just seems a little too weird about who can have the dog, just move on and consider one of the thousands of other dogs waiting for homes. Some people will be able to take dogs back. You should definitely ask this question before committing to the dog, and do everything you can to make sure the dog is a good fit before you bring the dog home. The previous owner may want to stay in touch. How often will the previous owner expect text updates? Are you OK with that? How often will she want to visit, if at all? Are you OK giving her your address? Would you like her to call you before just showing up? Or maybe you would rather not keep in touch at all. When I adopted my dog Ace from his previous owner, I never spoke with her again after that day. She never reached out to me either. The owner could change her mind at the last minute. If this is the case, try to be understanding, move on and consider one of the many other dogs in need of a home. When you adopt through a shelter or get a dog through a breeder, you will not have this problem. How to get a dog through Craigslist OK, now that we got the pros and cons of adopting a dog through Craigslist out of the way, here are some tips to make the process go smoothly. Just a reminder, I would avoid all purebred puppies listed on Craigslist, at least trendy purebreds or trendy designer mixes such as goldendoodles. What you can potentially find on Craigslist is a nice young or middle-aged Lab, shepherd mix, pitbull or other various mixed breeds. Ask tons of questions about the dog before agreeing to meet. Ideally, you should get most of your questions answered ahead of time. For example, does the dog absolutely have to get along with cats? Can you deal with potty training? Separation anxiety? I recommend an actual phone conversation vs. Yes, I know this is hard for you young people but it will give you a much better feeling for the situation. Bring the whole family to meet the dog, if you can. Everyone in your family should go along for the initial meeting. Bring your existing dog along too, if possible. Probably should leave your cat at home though! Keep your dog in the car at first or have one person stay back with your dog. Here are my tips for doing slow dog to dog intros. If you live alone, ask a friend to go along. This is a safety precaution. Bring a friend who will give honest feedback. Not the friend who will convince you to adopt any and every dog! You want to find the right dog. Meet the dog. Then wait a few hours before committing. Adopting a dog is a huge decision and commitment. When I went to meet my dog Ace for the first time, I asked his owner if I could take him for a walk. She was comfortable with this, so my husband and I walked Ace for about 20 minutes. This gave us some time to get to know Ace and talk about our decision without the current owner around. Take dog-to-dog intros very slowly. If you do bring your other dog along, be very careful about introducing the two dogs. Most people rush dog-to-dog intros and it sets the dogs up for a scuffle. You want to avoid introductions in the house, especially in doorways. Also, avoid head-on, nose-to-nose meetings. Take them for a short walk side by side. Instead, have one dog already walking and just start strolling behind with the other by a good 20 feet. Then try to walk parallel, with 10 feet between. Only move closer and have the dogs interact if they are both starting to calm down. Look for relaxed body posture, sniffing the ground, loosely wagging tails and casual glances. Those are all good signs. Dogs that are jumping on their hind legs, choking themselves, panting heavily and pulling towards each other are way too excited to have an appropriate greeting. Pay with cash when you buy a dog on Craigslist. This is just the most obvious way to avoid a check or credit card scam. And obviously, never send money before meeting the dog! Additional Resources:. As my website states, I am not like other breeders in many ways. First, I want to explain how the average Labrador breeder raises their pups the first few weeks of their life. They expect these tiny pups without their senses fully developed to find their way to a nipple without being smothered. I understand that this is what dogs do in the wild, but this is also why many puppies die in the wild. .Then, on top of that they hope that each of the pups will get enough milk on it's own to make it through the 1st week of life. They expect the Lab mom to do all the work, so they don't have to lose a wink of sleep. This is all very sad to say but it's true. I, on the other hand, care about each individual pup's life, I care that each and every one of them survive so that they can live a full and happy life. So, I make sure that each individual pup is given outstanding care. How do I do this? I began with hand raising each one of my pups the first 3 weeks of its life. What do I mean by hand raise my pup? It means I personally make sure each individual pup is fed every 2 hours- 24 hours a day, the first 2 weeks of its life. At feeding time, I make sure each puppy gets on a nipple so they don't have to struggle to find one. I make sure that each puppy gets an adequate amount of milk. Then, once I see that they have been well fed. I pick up one pup at a time and have the mom lick it to go potty. And then I put them in their little crib to ensure they are safe and not smooth by the mother until the next feeding 2 hours later. At three weeks, we feed the pups every 4 hours. But at this point, even though the pups eyes and ears are open. I still supervise the feeding to ensure that each pup is adequately fed and again not smothered by it's mother. I believe in giving these pups outstanding care. Even if that means that I lose a lot of sleep, and even if it ends up just saving one pups life. That one pup could be the next Labrador that I get a testimony about how it brought so much joy into one person's life! So, in the end, all the work and lack of sleep is worth it. I am up now about to give my pups their 3 am feeding. Hope this helps you all understand what is put into each litter. We will be reviewing potential families who would be interested in Sugar and pick the best family for her, and make a decision later this month. They are given constant positive attention their whole time with us. We have a big game room that we call the "Labby Room" This room is designated for our labs and their lab puppies. The puppies get a lot of interaction with all our kids in this room. They also become well adjusted to all the sounds of the home life, like the sound of a vacuum. When the pups are born, I will contact you and inform you on how many pups were born. We will post up pictures of each litter soon after they are born. And try to post weekly picture updates so you can watch the puppies grow. We will also post video on our face book page. When the pups are 6 to 7 weeks of age, I will contact you to set up an appointment for you choose and pick up your pup at 8 weeks of age. If you had first deposit in for a male pup you will have first choice of all the males available. If you have second deposit in, you will have the next appointment to choose from the males that are left and so forth. This order of reserving pups would also apply to the females as well. We honor all reservations on a puppy by not selling the puppy to anyone else. So if you are interested in a litter and don't want to make a reservation until "you see the litter". An appointment can be made to view the left-over puppies when they are 10 weeks old, and no sooner. No appointments will be allowed at a younger age, except for the families that made a prior reservation. We will not allow our baby puppies to be exposed to potential life threatening viruses from people that are just "shopping". We wait until all puppies that have been reserved are safely home, before we show any left-over puppies. Any left-over pups will be at least 10 weeks of age before any viewings are allowed, to insure they have at least had 2 sets of shots in. The only other accommodation that we can offer is a zoom call, so you can see the pups before you make a reservation. Most of our sweet puppies are sold before they are even born. Reserve your puppy today!
Profile[ ] Cookie's first focus episode was " The General ", where she found herself disillusioned after meeting her idol, Dolly, and discovering she wasn't what she thought she was. Dolly helps to bring out Cookie's feminine side, but Cookie takes things a little too far, losing her focus and jeopardizing the team's plan to have sixty-seven puppies adopted in the same day. Dolly was able to snap her out of it, and Cookie successfully directed the plan to completion. Afterwards, Cookie was given a parting gift by Dolly: A pink bow, which Cookie would wear from that episode onward. After the "dog" was revealed to be a coyote named Fang , Cookie, undeterred, nursed him back to health, taught him some of the dogs' ways, and convinced him to help get Buddy back to his home. During the course of the journey, Cookie and Fang fell in love, and Cookie decided to leave for the wild with him. However, Fang led his pack to Buddy's home that very night, seeking to steal their food. Lucky and the others arrived, and a confrontation seemed imminent. However, Cookie was able to defuse the situation, telling Fang that he was a wild animal, and that she had a home, so they could not stay together. As Cookie left with the Pound Puppies, Fang howled at the moon. Cookie with Cupcake In " Mutternal Instincts ", Cookie took a liking to a new puppy, Cupcake , to the point where she actively prevented her from being adopted. After Cupcake was accidentally dropped onto a truck bound for the city dump, Cookie was finally convinced to let her be adopted. Ironically, Cupcake was soon after adopted by Cookie's own family , reuniting them. In " Hot Dawg! Fortunately, Antonio was able to convince them to be friends again. Along the way, Cookie and Lucky came close to admitting their feelings for each other. When they finally arrived at the farm where Giblet's new owner lived, she and Lucky finally found out that they had feelings for each other. In " Lucky Has to Move ", Cookie was naturally aghast at the revelation that Lucky's family would be moving, and helped to try and prevent it. When they fail, she tearfully shared a farewell nuzzle with Lucky. A short while later, Cookie and the rest of the Pound Puppies are overjoyed to learn that Lucky's family ended up moving next door to Shelter 17, allowing Lucky to stay. Hub Network Description[ ] This boxer mix with the no-nonsense stare is always itching for some action. Tough and loyal, Cookie is really softie at heart. Smart, fast on her feet, and protective by nature, she's the perfect as Lucky's right-paw dog. Personality[ ] Cookie is an outwardly tough and stern, but deeply kind and caring dog, with a particular soft spot for puppies Cookie looking stern. She is owned by a large family , and is a major part of their daily routine. Cookie has a fiery temper, and will not hesitate to put others in their place. Cookie has a crush on Lucky , but cannot bring herself to admit it to him, fearing that it will undermine her position as his trusted second-in-command, since she is the dog Lucky relies on the most to get the job done. Cookie loves her adopted daughter, Cupcake. Appearance[ ] Cookie's body has mainly brown fur, but her eyelids are a darker brown, which makes her look like she is wearing eyeshadow. Her ears were darker brown, like her eyelids, and are small and a little curved at the end. She has white fur that begins a little bit under her her neck; it starts off wavy then becomes straight that stops a little bit before her tail. She has a white muzzle with a black nose that has a tip that is in between her eyes. On her feet is white fur on her paws that stop a little bit over her ankle that end in a wave. She has white sharp teeth but there are two notable sharp teeth which can be seen sometimes when when she opens her mouth, smiles, talks, etc. On her neck, she wears a black collar with silver rings on it and her Pound Puppies tag. Before the episode " The General ", Cookie's eyelashes were not visible, but after the episode Cookie had longer eyelashes and she wore the pink bow that Dolly gave to her as a gift, and continues to wear it from that episode and onward. Development and Design[. Pound Puppies[ edit ] The following dogs appear regularly in the series. Well-adjusted and intelligent, but strict, he exudes authority and is often obeyed without question. However, in "When Niblet Met Giblet", he tried to show Cookie his feelings, even going as far as holding her paw. He never gets to confess because Lucky is always interrupted. As shown in an official plush toy, his last name is "Smarts". He was described by McLeish, owner and manager of the pound as "the scruffy, sneaky one who always seems to be here. While it is revealed that Lucky actually has six brothers and three sisters, he thought he had five, but after meeting up with his father again as in "I Never Barked for My Father" , he found out he had one more younger brother. His catchphrase is "Go, dogs, go" which he says to get the dogs to go into action. Every time Lucky wants to confess that he loves her they get interrupted. Cookie dislikes getting her stomach touched. In "Mutternal Instincts", she grows close to a puppy she affectionately names Cupcake and, at the end, her family adopts her. As shown in an official plush toy, her full name is "Sugar Cookie". He has a little sister named Rebound. Although Niblet isn't the smartest of the group, he means well. Niblet also has been shown to love peanut butter. Niblet also is the only dog of the main 5 who is shown not wearing a collar with a keychain on it. He is also the only dog of the main 5 who did not have any form of owner. She is usually assisted by squirrels due to her lack of opposable thumbs and is the most intelligent dog in the group. For a small dog, she has a big ego and is extremely cocky, but she does love her friends, and can be kind and brave. She brags how smart she is and tends to show off her intelligence. She often works in the background, which often makes her jealous of the other main 5 dogs. In Season 3, it is revealed that Strudel used to have an owner, who was a scientist. Squirt voiced by Michael Rapaport — A yellow Chihuahua. The smallest and most street-smart of the group; Niblet's closest companion in the series. Squirt can be negative, but he will always be there for his team. Since he is the smallest member of the team, he sometimes ends up in wacky costumes in order to complete missions, including a cat, possum, rabbit, and flower. Squirt also had a friend named Peewee which he thought was eaten by an alligator. He gets adopted by accident in Season 2. Rebound voiced by Brooke Goldner — Niblet's little sister. True to her namesake, she was adopted and returned to the pound many times due to her overenthusiastic nature. She finally finds her forever home with Agatha McLeish. Cupcake voiced by Cree Summer — A puppy who is Cookie's adopted daughter. She is a member of the Super Secret Pup Club. She is smart and quick-thinking, although sometimes her puppy energy gets her into sticky situations. Introduced in the Season 1 episode, "Mutternal Instincts", she started off as a cute and innocent character. However, after she joined the Super Secret Pup Club, she had a more down-to-earth personality. According to an official plush toy, his last name is "McFrisky". His last name, which is McLeish, is a play on the word "leash". While he really doesn't like his career and wishes for a better one, he doesn't have a clue about the Pound Puppies' operations. He may have a sister, because the mayor is his brother-in-law. His mother is Agatha McLeish. He is in charge of new dog arrivals and assists pound visitors in finding a matching pet they could adopt. Like McLeish, he is unaware of the Pound Puppies' operations. He has started dating Gertrude Washburn the librarian as of the episode "Olaf in Love". She is somewhat strict with her son but dotes on Rebound. Milton Feltwaddle recurring character, voiced by Jim Parsons — An uptight businessman determined to change Shelter 17 for what he believes is the better. He acts kind and pleasant in public and in front of children, but underneath, he has a very self-centered personality. He is constantly pushing McLeish to do things for him, and berates him for making mistakes. He cares little for potential voters, desiring only their votes, and likes to mock them behind their backs. Ketchum recurring character — The silent animal control officer who frequently brings the puppies to Shelter 17, thus instigating the episodes' events. For the most part, he appears emotionless, but in the series finale, he expressed excitement when McLeish fired him. She is the only human who knows that the dogs can talk. Claudio recurring character, voiced by Jeff Bennett — An Italian fisherman who appears in several episodes. Recurring characters[ edit ] Dolly voiced by E. Daily - Also known as "the General", she is a pink poodle who is a near-legendary member to the Pound Puppies network. Ralph voiced by Fred Stoller — A Labrador Retriever adult dog who is lazy and rarely pays attention to his surroundings. He shows an interest in chewing shoes. She is serious about becoming a police dog and is strict. Her perfect person is a boy named Charlie, who too wants to become a policeman. Even after Sarge, Charlie's father's dog, turned down Pepper, Pepper didn't let that stop her just like Cookie and Cupcake, Lucky could show affection for Pepper. Cats[ edit ] The Kennel Kittens are a group of cats who help find homes for kittens. Their goals sometimes bring them into conflict with the Pound Puppies. They first appeared in "Catcalls" and last appeared in "Hello Kitten". He is a Bicolor cat and a cat version of Lucky, the leader of Shelter .Just like Cookie, she's second in command of Shelter .Instead of pink, the bow on her head is yellow. If not, here is the form! His love and compassion for Boxers was felt by those who had the pleasure of spending time with him. Ken loved sports and spending time with friends. He also collected sports memorabilia and other collectibles like Hot Wheels. He truly loved Milo, featured in the the photo with him. Every time we received a message from him he included a picture of him and Milo. He never gave up hope that some treatment would be the ultimate cure. He worked as long as he could and made his journey to the light in late June. His weakened system just couldn't fight any longer. He will be deeply missed by WCBR, and we wish his family peace with his loss. Thank you to so many who have donated to WCBR in his memory. Ken will forever be in our hearts. We need your help. The number of Boxers being surrendered by families and in the shelters is overwhelming. We continue to receive owner surrenders a week, along with multiple pleas from surrounding shelters for Boxers in need. So many Boxer are coming from families that are no longer able to financially care for them, just don't want them, many are dealing with illness or the Boxer's pet parent has passed away, and many just are moving. Without the funding or foster homes, sadly we have to turn away these surrenders. Please Foster, Fund or be a Forever Home. Petey Donor Spotlight: Doreen Murotsune For many of us who give our hearts, time, or dollars to rescue, we are first inspired by the love of a single special dog. Hana belonged to friends of Doreen, but Doreen and her boxer, Benjamin, fell in love with her. Benjamin and Hana were best friends, and Benjamin was always on the lookout for Hana and ready to protect her from any yappy Chihuahua who tried to intimidate her. In addition to being an active Strut Your Mutt teammate for each of the past 5 years, Doreen browses the boxers in our care and sponsors many dogs whose stories warm her heart. She not only sponsors dogs with single or repeat financial gifts, but also inquires about dogs with prescription diet needs and then purchases those diets on an autoship schedule, having the food mailed directly to foster homes.
