A fast change in food can cause upset stomach and digestive problems. Breeders and shelters are buying food in bulk and have to feed many dogs which is a factor in which brand they choose; so there is a good chance that you will want to offer your Poodle something different. Have both the current food and the new food on hand and make a gradual switch over the course of 3 weeks. Though you will be leaving food out at all times, it is important that the food is fresh. Do not just top it off throughout the day, rinse and clean the bowl as necessary so that old food is not stuck at the bottom of the dish. Puppy: Starting at just about the 3 month mark, Poodles of all varieties should be eating 3 meals per day, plus snacks. Adult: When a pup matures into an adult, this does not necessarily mean that they should suddenly be given only one meal a day. Smaller dogs such as Toy Poodles and Miniatures often do best with 2 or even 3 meals per day. Standards have a bit more tolerance to a single dinnertime feeding, however many can also benefit from having food split up into two servings. Several snacks can be given in between meals and this is particularly helpful is a Poodle is a fast eater. How Much to Feed a Poodle Exact serving size varies quite a bit depending on the type of food. There is a big difference in calories between wet vs dry and low quality vs high quality. And, the amount of food that a Poodle should be eating depends on the dog's age, activity level, individual metabolism, and health status. Even the weather can play a role since dogs tend to eat a bit more in the winter and a bit less in the summer. As you can imagine, this can vary quite a bit depending on the exact ingredients. However, dry food is recommended since this is much better for the gums and teeth. In addition, dry kibble tends to be easier on the stomach and intestines and a diet of all wet canned food can lead to runny stools. Grain vs Grain-free Until relatively recently, there was not much debate on this subject; if a dog tended to have gastrointestinal or allergy issues when on a diet with grains, they were switched to a grain-free recipe. However, this changed when it was discovered that several dogs that were breeds not prone to dilated cardiomyopathy developed that particular heart disease and also happened to be fed grain-free kibble. Lots of pet parents immediately thought that they needed to change their dogs back to grains; however, many more studies need to be done. In fact, the most recent update from the Veterinary Medical Center at Tufts University suggests that 'grain-free' alone may not be the issue at play. For now, it is theorized that a certain diet dubbed a BEG diet may be to blame. This stands for boutique small local brands with exotic meats non-traditional meats like alligator, bison, ostrich, venison, and kangaroo and grain-free along with peas, legumes, or potatoes as one of the top 5 ingredients. Currently there are no recalls of grain-free dog food brands and the FDA is still investigating any possible links including the BEG theory. If your Poodle does not do well with any grains at all, you may wish to stick to a brand that has traditional meats like chicken, turkey, or beef or a fish-based recipes. And, if you are not sure about which grains your Poodle may do okay with, you may wish to opt for wholesome non-wheat and non-gluten grains like rice brown or white , oatmeal, quinoa which is technically a seed. Exact recommendations for the best foods include both grain and grain-free options. The Golden Labrador is a designer dog breed that originated in the United States. They are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever. The goal was to combine these two highly popular breeds to create a dog that exhibits the best traits from both of them. A mixed dog breed can take after one parent breed more than the other or any combination of traits from the parent breeds. This can result in some variation among individual puppies. But, overall, a Golden Labrador is friendly, intelligent, energetic, and affectionate. Although this mixed breed is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable organizations like the American Canine Hybrid Club and more. This large designer breed is characterized by their energetic personality and friendly disposition. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are open, friendly, and affectionate, so you can expect the same in your Golden Labrador puppy. They are very playful and get along fabulously with children, other dogs, and other pets. They may be alert enough to be a good watchdog, but they do not make good guard dogs. They are instinctually more interested in making new friends and getting attention than they are with anything else. They can have a slight prey drive, but most of the time, they are just curious and interested in playing and making friends. The Golden Labrador is a moderately adaptable dog breed. Their large size and energy tend to make them a better fit for larger homes with room to run. They can adapt well to apartment living as long as they are given enough exercise and mental stimulation. But, small spaces can be a challenge because they are large dogs that are so playful and energetic. Golden Labradors do well in just about any climate. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they love their families, thrive on attention, and get bored easily, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. As a mixed breed, a Golden Labrador can inherit the potential health conditions of one or both of the parent breeds. Although the Golden Labrador is a relatively healthy dog breed, there are some potential health conditions to be aware of. These include eye problems like progressive retinal atrophy and joint issues common to large dogs like patellar luxation and hip dysplasia. Like their parent breeds, the Golden Labrador can be prone to weight gain, which does put them at risk of diabetes later in life. Reputable breeders will screen their stock to ensure genetic conditions are not being passed on to puppies. Regular vet visits, proper nutrition, and sufficient exercise can help keep your dog healthy and reduce preventable diseases. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are highly intelligent and highly trainable, so the Golden Labrador should be no different. Eager to please their owners, these dogs pick up on things quickly and respond best to positive training methods focused on praise and reward. This dog breed, like both of the parent breeds, is a great fit for owners of all experience levels, including first-time dog owners. Their high energy can sometimes be a challenge, so you may want to consider puppy training and obedience classes. This designer dog breed may be called a Golden Labrador, but they can show up in many colors. A cream, yellow, or golden coat may be the most common, but a Golden Labrador can also have a black, red, or brown coat. It tends to be a dense double coat that is short or medium in length. This dog breed will shed moderately year-round with heavier shedding sessions twice a year as the seasons change. During seasonal changes, you may want to increase to daily brushing. Not only will this make your dog more comfortable, but it will also decrease the amount of loose fur that ends up around your house. In addition to coat care, you will also need to handle nail, ear, and dental care for your Golden Labrador. Floppy ears tend to trap more dirt, moisture, and debris, which makes them more prone to developing ear infections than ears that stick straight up. Unfortunately, this is often overlooked, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Beyond that, you can use vet-approved dental hygiene chews and treats and even a specially-formulated dental care diet to supplement your efforts. Getting them used to it early and keeping it a positive experience can make grooming a lot easier as your puppy grows into a big dog! Plus, it can become a bonding experience that your dog looks forward to. Golden Labradors are high-energy dogs. Daily walks, playtime, and some extra activity are generally enough for this dog to stay happy and healthy. But, they will probably tire out before you do! Their friendly nature makes the Golden Labrador a great fit for trips to the dog park. Try teaching your dog how to play frisbee. With their retriever background, it could become one of their favorite activities. You can also train your Golden Labrador for several dog sports like agility, dock diving, obedience, and more. A fully-grown Golden Labrador usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Golden Labrador generally lives years. Although Golden Labrador is the most popular name for this designer dog breed, they are also sometimes referred to as a Goldador or a Goldador Retriever. Featured Golden Labrador Article. As with any mixed breed, they can take on the traits of one of the parent breeds or any combination of both of them. With a Golden Retriever Mix, the goal is to get the highly-trainable, super-friendly, and sweet nature of the Golden Retriever and the best traits of the other dog in the cross. Because there can be variation in the puppies, you will want to ask the breeder about the other dog in the cross. This will give you an idea of what other traits you could be dealing with in a Golden Retriever Mix puppy. A Golden Retriever is known as the quintessential friendly dog with a happy-go-lucky personality. They get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Golden Retrievers are famously easy to train, which makes them a great fit for owners of all experience levels. Depending on the other parent breed, there may be a chance that your Golden Retriever Mix could have an independent or stubborn streak. In this case, you will want to be prepared for puppy training and obedience classes in case you want a little help in dealing with stubbornness. Classes are a great idea either way because they help strengthen the bond you have with your puppy and are also a great opportunity to socialize your puppy. Golden Retrievers tend to have a medium-length coat that sheds moderately year-round and requires brushing a few times a week. Bathing is usually on an as-needed basis. This may be the same for your Golden Retriever Mix or their coat could require more or less grooming depending on the other parent breed. Monthly nail trimming is usually sufficient to keep them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks and careful cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Golden Retrievers are high-energy dogs. Your Golden Retriever Mix will likely be the same. Even if the other parent breed is a low or moderate-energy dog, you will need to be prepared to deal with a high-energy dog. Daily walks, playtime, plus extra activity are a must for dogs with a lot of energy. Be prepared to try a lot of different activities to find your favorites. Teach your dog to play frisbee , go for a swim, go running together, try taking a few hikes, go on trips to the dog park, and more. A Golden Retriever is a medium-sized dog breed that stands inches tall and weighs pounds. Your Golden Retriever Mix could be the same or they could take after the other parent breed. I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. As English Bulldog Breeders, how do you breed for a healthier Bulldog? Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other bulldog breeders from improving the health of their Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes them unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities and produce high quality English Bulldogs for sale. However, when getting a Golden Retriever puppy from a breeder it is important that you make sure that the breeder is reputable before buying a puppy from them. Here are the top 15 reputable Golden Retriever breeders in Missouri. We take notes during this interview so that we have them to refer back to throughout the process. Deposits can be made on our Pricing and Deposits page. The balance is due when your puppy is 4 weeks old. It is not our policy to refund deposits. Waiting List After your deposit is received, you are placed on our waiting list. As litters are bred or if we have extra spots after a litter is born, we contact the next families on the list that match the litter preferences. If the timing does not work for you or you cannot take a puppy from this litter, your name goes back on the top of the list, and you will be contacted for the next or future litter. After the Puppies are Born Puppy Collars The first thing we do after the puppies are born is to place a collar on them. The puppies wear different color collars, and this is how we track their weights two times a day, how our Vet keeps track of them and how you can track them from week to week in the pictures. Puppy Announcement and Weekly Updates After the puppies are born, we send a birth announcement via email to each family on the list with the litter specifics and pictures. We send pictures and updates every week, so you can watch them grow. Matching Puppies with Families Matching puppies with families is an integral part of our process, and we feel is one of the most significant things that sets us apart. Many breeders allow families to select their puppy in order of deposit, but we feel that we are serving each family and each puppy much better by selecting based on "best fit. Choose Your Favorites The first step in our selection process is to get your opinion based purely on the look of the puppies. After we send the 6-week pictures, we ask everyone on the list for their favorites, based solely on the look of the puppies. This test uses a scoring system and consists of ten individual tests. Each test is scored separately, and interpreted on its own merits. The scores are not averaged, and there are no winners or losers. The entire purpose is to select the right puppy for the right home. For more information on this test, visit the volhard. Our Recommendation Using the results of the Volhard Test, along with your puppy application, phone interview, and your favorites, we match you with the puppy that we feel is the best fit for your family and lifestyle. Your New Family Member! Once the testing is complete, we call everyone on the waiting list to go over their scores and discuss our recommendation of which of your favorites we think is the best fit. After this conversation, you have a puppy to call your own! Visiting Your New Puppy After the selection process is complete, you are welcome to visit your new puppy. The puppies are 6 weeks old by this time, and will have had their first set of vaccinations. When visiting your puppy, we request that you do not visit any other kennels, pet stores, breeders, or places where there could be unvaccinated dogs during the same day. We will ask that you take your shoes off at the door and use hand sanitizer. We will also ask that all kids sit on the floor when holding and playing with the puppies. Taking Home Your Puppy At eight weeks, you will be invited to take your puppy home. We will assign a time for your pickup so that we can spend some uninterupted time with you going over things we think you should know and answering any questions you may have. The drive home When you pick up your puppy, we recommend bringing someone with you who can hold the puppy on their lap for the drive home. Your puppy will be unfamiliar in his new surroundings, and without his siblings. Holding the puppy on your lap on an old bath towel will keep your puppy feeling safe and happy and start him off in the best possible way to his new life. Avoid High Traffic Areas On the way home, please remember that your puppy is vulnerable because he has not yet completed his vaccines. Avoid stopping at "high traffic" dog areas, like rest stops, on your journey home. Instead try stopping at restaurants, where people with dogs in the car are less likely to stop. By avoiding areas where other dogs have been walked, you greatly reduce the chances of your puppy picking up any germs left behind. If you have to stop at a rest area, please carry your puppy to a more secluded spot, and you might even want to put your puppy on a puppy pad rather than on the grass - or for the most secure solution, simply put them in a crate lined with a puppy pad. In general, your puppy should be able to make at least a two hour trip without stopping. Visiting the Vet When you go to your Vet, carry your puppy in and place it on the table; don't let it walk across the floor where a sick dog could have been. Until your puppy has had its last set of puppy vaccines, 16 weeks, you need to treat it like it has no immune system and avoid high risk situations such as parks and pet stores. Preparing for Your New Puppy Shopping Essentials Before your puppy comes home, we recommend that you purchase several items. We've created a shopping list that we think is a great start. Goldendoodle Overview Goldendoodle Overview A goldendoodle is a crossbreed between a full-bred golden retriever and a poodle. Goldendoodles weigh up to 90 pounds when fully grown and are the largest breed that we offer. A Labradoodle is a cross between a full-bred Labrador retriever and a poodle, giving them many of the personality traits of a Labrador retriever. They get their hypoallergenic coats from their poodle side. Their temperament and energy make them an ideal choice for families that have children. A Labradoodle likes to explore, play and make friends with any creature it encounters. Having a large yard for them to explore is another way to cater to their high drive and playful nature. Numerous colors and sizes make this a versatile breed. The smallest Labradoodle puppy might grow to 22 pounds while the largest can top out at 90 pounds. Cockapoo Overview Cockapoo Overview Cockapoos are ideal for apartment dwellers because the smallest puppies will only grow to 6 pounds by adulthood. A Cockapoo is the cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a poodle, and they come in an assortment of colors and fur textures. The Cocker Spaniel in this breed gives it its regal, easy going demeanor, and cockapoos are intelligent, playful and curious dogs. They make friends easily and bond well with children, making them wonderful family pets. You do still need to groom and bathe them regularly. We address destructive chewing, nipping and playful biting, going to the bathroom indoors and other potential behavioral issues. This means that your spouse and children may also become allergic to dogs. The problem is pet dander, which is found in the fur that dogs shed regularly from their coats. Hypoallergenic breeds still shed but much less than other dogs would. The methods they use correct unwanted behaviors and reward the behaviors you desire in your pet. When your puppy arrives, it knows not to chew on furniture and clothing, that it needs to go to the bathroom outside and not to nip or bite. Walking a dog can be a hassle if it pulls on the leash every time it gets excited, so your puppy will be leash trained and cooperative even in the presence of distractions. Vocality level 2 in 5 Disclaimer: While the characteristics mentioned here may frequently represent this breed, dogs are individuals whose personalities and appearances will vary. Please consult the adoption organization for details on a specific pet. Temperament As a crossbreed, it is hard to say for sure which behavioral and personality traits each Doodle will possess. Overall, pet parents report that Goldendoodles are friendly family dogs who do well with children and other pets. Good puppy socialization is key to their development as a well-rounded adult dog. They have an average to high energy level and require roughly minutes of exercise daily. Due to their loyal, people-pleasing nature, Goldendoodles can be easy to train, and if done properly with positive reinforcement, can be extremely obedient pets. They prefer room to run around, so would thrive with a fenced yard. They may not be the greatest choice for apartment dwellers, unless you are big on daily outdoor exercise. Upkeep With an average-to-high energy level, Goldendoodles do best with more active families who can dedicate time to playing games with them. They thrive on socialization and playtime with other dogs to help to burn their energy. Mental stimulation in the form of agility or ongoing training will help keep their adventurous spirit content. If not properly occupied, they can sometimes become destructive -- another reason why they might not be the best match for a small apartment. Goldendoodles have a double coated fur that can be quite dense. Some have fur that can be left in its natural state but you should still expect to brush it out roughly once per week. Others may have fur that will require more upkeep, including professional grooming every weeks the more dense the fur, the more it will trap dirt. Otherwise, bathe your Goldendoodle as needed, brush teeth regularly, and trim nails times per month. Be sure to check and clean their ears to remove any buildup and avoid infections! The mix of the two did not appear in America until the s, but has been gaining popularity as people value a type of dog that could possess the low dander levels of a Poodle and the intelligence and happy personality of a Golden Retriever. The Goldendoodle was originally offered as a larger alternative to the Cockapoo, one of the early intentional crossbreeds. Because Goldendoodles are so popular, they certainly can be found for adoption in animal shelters and Doodle-specific rescues. If sharing your home with a Doodle is your dream, be sure to consider adoption! Related Content.

Barney the cream Miniature Poodle puppy at 3 months old Barney the cream Miniature Poodle puppy at 3 months old Leia the Miniature Poodle at 2 years old "Here is Nicky the male Miniature Poodle at 3 years old 18 pounds with that "intelligent" Poodle look on his face trying and succeeding I'm sure to understand the words his owner is saying. In the fall of , Drew's eye was irreparably injured in an accident with another dog from the same household. He was placed in foster care while recovering from surgeries on his eye. In December , he was adopted by a loving family who had been mourning the loss of their beloved one-eyed Jack Russell Terrier. Her owner then spayed her and put her up for sale, and I received her for my sixteenth birthday. In the year that we have had her, she has been the perfect dog, despite her high startle reaction and fear of numerous things like our cat. She has made so much progress, is so well behaved and makes us laugh with all of her funny quirks, like running around the house in circles at top speed , and her sly way of stealing food right out of someone's hands. I love being able to come home and see a small bundle of fur squirm with excitement at the sight of me. What a little champion at 13 weeks—he has a bright future ahead of him. He is a very photogenic, goofy, intelligent-when-he-wants-to-be, stubborn, act-like-a-big-dog, boy. His best friend is his kitty housemate, Panda. They play around all the time and are even seen sleeping on my bed beside each other. Ebby loves his walks , but just as much enjoys sleeping on the couch for hours. When Ebony is not clipped he tends to look like an old man. He hates having his nails clipped, being brushed, getting shots and being left alone. He has very bad separation anxiety. He loves cat food, stuffed toys, people, all animals and having you trip over him while he follows you around the kitchen begging for food. I wouldn't change him for the world. As you can see he is very alert to what is going on outside. He thinks he can take on the world. Everyone laughs at him instead of being "afraid" of his vicious bark, ha ha! Half the time he just barks, thinking he is barking at someone, and looks at me, waiting for mom to investigate the noise! Such a wonderful breed! Maybe you have studied a lot about poodles, but we are sure that we will help you to know about some interesting facts about them that you have never heard before. But side by side, you will be getting some beautiful pictures of poodle puppies for your picture collection. Fun Fact 1: There are three main Poodle categories. Poodles are categorized according to their sizes. Next is the Miniature Poodle, which grows up to 15 inches tall. Fun Fact 2: They are also retrievers. Considering just how much hair covers their faces and bodies. Fur is shed once or twice each year, while hair continues to grow. Amazing Poodle Dog Puppies Pictures: So without wasting any more time, we should directly go to our motive and yes, it is that we will be discussing about something interesting about this dog breed. Actually, we all know that Poodle is the national dog of France but the breed has originated from Germany. But yes, all their reputation grew from France and so they do claim Poodle as their National dog. Fun Fact 4: They are fond of humans. Fun Fact 5: They are generally healthy. In general, they are considered one of the healthiest dog breeds in the world. Most Poodles live anywhere from 10 to 18 years. However, you should know why the Poodles were bred for the first time in Germany. Actually, they were bred as working dogs and not as pets. They were excellent swimmers and so they were used by the hunters to retrieve ducks and other birds from the water. Poodles have a very soft mouth, which helped them to bring the injured from the water. Interestingly, the furs all over their body were just used as a protection as they swam in the cold water. Therefore, if you just see the fur pattern of the poodle you will find that the furs were used to protect the vital areas from cold water. Fun Fact 6: The name has an interesting history. As mentioned, Poodles came from Germany instead of France. This makes sense because the name came from pudel. More often than not, they mix Poodles with other breeds that are also hypoallergenic. Overall, there are more than 40 different cross-breeds that came from Poodles. Fun Fact 8: Elvies Presley loved them. When Elvis was in the army, he had a Poodle named Champagne. One of which is Honey, whom he gave to his wife Priscilla. He also gave his mother a Poodle named Sweet Pea. Most of the dogs shed as a part of a biological process, but amazingly, poodle will never stop growing its fur. This is the main reason that they need regular grooming. If they are not groomed well, it will end up in matted and locking fur all over their body. This is the reason they are regarded as hypoallergenic and generally odorless. Fun Fact 9: An artist made them popular. However, a German artist looked at them from a different perspective. This is what made the breed very popular during the 15th and 16th centuries. Today, Poodles are one of the most common dogs to enter in dog shows. You should also know that poodles are one of the smartest dog breed in the world. They are though easy to train and they response to the training rapidly. To say in details, they are very intelligent and if you can train them in the right way, they will need just sometime to understand what you are up to. Going back to the s, poodles were dressed in human clothing and trained well to act out beautiful tricks in front of people in the dog shows. From then, the popularity of poodles in the dog show has started. And today it is one of the popular breed for the dog shows. Fun Fact American celebrities and icons love them, too! We already know that Elvis Presley was fond of Poodles. However, there are many other celebrities and icons who love this breed. Fun Fact Kids and the elderly love them, and Poodles love them back! Because they are hypoallergenic, Poodles are the go-to pet for young and old dog lovers. In return, they also enjoy being around them! In fact, Doug Dawson, a Poodle-owner who brings his dog to work in a nursing home, once found out that his Poodle named Nala knows how to work the elevator. Nala would ride the elevator and go around different rooms in the nursing home, visiting the elderly to bring joy and comfort. So whenever you are thinking of a poodle remember that you are looking for a dog with amazing haircut and you really have an interest for fancy dogs. Poodles are given silly haircuts just because they look good in that. If you see the matter in details, you will find that most of the owners of poodle prepare their dog for dog shows. So they give fancy cuts to make them look more attractive. Forget about that and just think about how you enjoyed the pictures of poodle puppies. I'm a blogger who loves to write about pets. I like to try new products, find cute pictures of them and share them with people. Related Posts.

Check out Poucheze at www. As my website states, I am not like other breeders in many ways. First, I want to explain how the average Labrador breeder raises their pups the first few weeks of their life. They expect these tiny pups without their senses fully developed to find their way to a nipple without being smothered. I understand that this is what dogs do in the wild, but this is also why many puppies die in the wild. .Then, on top of that they hope that each of the pups will get enough milk on it's own to make it through the 1st week of life. They expect the Lab mom to do all the work, so they don't have to lose a wink of sleep. This is all very sad to say but it's true. I, on the other hand, care about each individual pup's life, I care that each and every one of them survive so that they can live a full and happy life. So, I make sure that each individual pup is given outstanding care. How do I do this? I began with hand raising each one of my pups the first 3 weeks of its life. What do I mean by hand raise my pup? It means I personally make sure each individual pup is fed every 2 hours- 24 hours a day, the first 2 weeks of its life. At feeding time, I make sure each puppy gets on a nipple so they don't have to struggle to find one. I make sure that each puppy gets an adequate amount of milk. Then, once I see that they have been well fed. I pick up one pup at a time and have the mom lick it to go potty. And then I put them in their little crib to ensure they are safe and not smooth by the mother until the next feeding 2 hours later. At three weeks, we feed the pups every 4 hours. But at this point, even though the pups eyes and ears are open. I still supervise the feeding to ensure that each pup is adequately fed and again not smothered by it's mother. I believe in giving these pups outstanding care. Even if that means that I lose a lot of sleep, and even if it ends up just saving one pups life. That one pup could be the next Labrador that I get a testimony about how it brought so much joy into one person's life! So, in the end, all the work and lack of sleep is worth it. I am up now about to give my pups their 3 am feeding. Hope this helps you all understand what is put into each litter. She is from our breeding between Cash and Bella, both parents are health certified. Sugar is overnight crate trained and has some other training. She has the sweetest disposition; we absolutely love her! However, we have had a family emergency that has come up that may cause us to have to put Sugar up for sale. If you would be interested in Sugar, please email us and let us know about yourself, and the lifestyle that you would be able to give Sugar. We will be reviewing potential families who would be interested in Sugar and pick the best family for her, and make a decision later this month. They are given constant positive attention their whole time with us. We have a big game room that we call the "Labby Room" This room is designated for our labs and their lab puppies. The puppies get a lot of interaction with all our kids in this room. They also become well adjusted to all the sounds of the home life, like the sound of a vacuum. When the pups are born, I will contact you and inform you on how many pups were born. We will post up pictures of each litter soon after they are born. And try to post weekly picture updates so you can watch the puppies grow. We will also post video on our face book page. When the pups are 6 to 7 weeks of age, I will contact you to set up an appointment for you choose and pick up your pup at 8 weeks of age. If you had first deposit in for a male pup you will have first choice of all the males available. If you have second deposit in, you will have the next appointment to choose from the males that are left and so forth. This order of reserving pups would also apply to the females as well. We honor all reservations on a puppy by not selling the puppy to anyone else. So if you are interested in a litter and don't want to make a reservation until "you see the litter". An appointment can be made to view the left-over puppies when they are 10 weeks old, and no sooner. No appointments will be allowed at a younger age, except for the families that made a prior reservation. We will not allow our baby puppies to be exposed to potential life threatening viruses from people that are just "shopping". We wait until all puppies that have been reserved are safely home, before we show any left-over puppies. Any left-over pups will be at least 10 weeks of age before any viewings are allowed, to insure they have at least had 2 sets of shots in. The only other accommodation that we can offer is a zoom call, so you can see the pups before you make a reservation. Most of our sweet puppies are sold before they are even born. how much to buy a labrador puppy - This one-stop shop shampoo and conditioner is from the renowned Earthbath who make great all natural pet products. Ingredients: The Mango-Tango is made up of purified water alongside a variety of plant-derived cleansers and conditioners. It contains aloe vera, Vitamins A, B, D and E, as well as glycerine, natural preservatives and mango essence. The mango scent is really refreshing. It lathers and rinses out easily. Why we recommend it: Again, you can always feel confident with Earthbath products and that you are using all-natural ingredients and there is nothing in the formula that might be harmful to your dog. And it still works! Why Use Dog Shampoo Products? There are 2 major reasons to avoid using human shampoo on your dog: Skin pH levels: Human shampoo tends to be marginally acidic in order to best clean our skin, which has a pH somewhere between 5. Dogs, on the other hand, have an alkaline skin pH of up to 7. Sensitive skin: Dogs are generally much more sensitive than humans as their skin only has between layers, in comparison to humans with layers. As such, our skin can take more of a battering from harsh products and chemicals while your dog will be more easily irritated. Such irritation leads to dryness, scratching and abrasions. If you do have to bathe your dog with human products — perhaps in a particularly smelly emergency with no pet products at hand — try to opt for mild formulations used on babies and children. This means asking what kind of coat they have, and what kind of additional care their skin and coat might need. Do they have a short coat, long coat, a double coat? Is it dry or oily? Dogs with short coats often just need a shampoo, while long hair and double coats benefit from conditioner to help with detangling and repair after brushing. But at the same time, if your dog has an oily coat, you will want to skip the conditioner as it will just exacerbate the problem. How is their skin? Is it sensitive, prone to allergies, already red and sore due to other problems? If your dog has sensitive skin, you are going to want to avoid products that may exacerbate the problem and maybe go for a hypoallergenic shampoo. You may also want to look for products with soothing ingredients for the skin, such as oatmeal or Aloe Vera. You may then also want to look for products that might help with any ongoing issues your pup has. Do they shed a lot? Some shampoos can help with that. Do they often get fleas? You can get shampoos that also have repelling qualities. Do they have a particular problem with body odor? There are shampoos out there that specialize in deodorizing. For an overview of Labrador grooming needs, check out our complete guide. Once you determine what kind of shampoo you need, you can then look at the products themselves. There are a few key characteristics to look out for. Characteristics Of Good Dog Shampoos And Conditioners pH Level The skin and hair of dogs have a neutral pH level, and so as not to cause damage to their coat, their shampoo and conditioner should also have a neutral pH. Look for shampoos that have a pH level near 7, which is neutral. For that reason, good dog shampoos should work to neutralize odors rather than simply mask smells with fragrances. You will know if your dog is not a fan of the smell of their shampoo or conditioner if they like to rub against things a lot after bathing. This is them trying to rub off the unwelcome smell. Natural Ingredients Just as it is true for humans, harsh chemicals absorbed through the skin can harm dogs. Dangerous chemicals should be avoided by choosing products made from all-natural ingredients. Key ingredients to avoid include phthalates, formaldehyde, isothiazolinones, and nitrosamines. Skin-Protecting Additives Just as you can buy shampoos and skin cleansers that promise to hydrate your skin and keep it looking fresh, dog shampoos will often include skin-protecting additives such as oatmeal, Aloe Vera, or vitamin E that is designed to moisturize skin and keep coats shiny. Medicated Shampoos If your dog has specific skin conditions, there may be a shampoo out there specially formulated to help. Identifying these usually requires consultation with your vet. Look out for shampoos that can help with parasitic or fungal infections, skin allergies, or seborrhea. Medicated shampoos are much more likely to include unnatural ingredients than standard shampoos, for good reason. They need these ingredients to do their job effectively. But there are a few ingredients to be wary of in particular, avoid anything that contains alcohol, as it can sting the skin and eyes. If you are looking for a medicated shampoo for fleas, check out our list of the seven best dog flea shampoos. The open hair follicles can also allow oils to escape and let contaminants enter the follicle, again, compromising their strength and integrity. Conditioner seals the hair follicles, locking in oils and protecting the hair from breakages. But whether your dog really needs conditioner depends on their coat. However, it is probably best to avoid conditioners for dogs with oily coats, as it can just make them even more oily and unpleasant to touch. Dogs with long coats and double coats that require a lot of grooming benefit from the use of a conditioner. When choosing a conditioner, you should look for similar characteristics to a shampoo: Neutral pH balance All-natural ingredients and no chemicals or additives Fragrance-free or only lightly fragranced. Bathing Your Dog Bath time with your four-legged friend is not just about choosing the right product; it is also about using it correctly. This means washing your dog with the correct frequency and in just the right way. How often you need to bathe your dog will vary from breed to breed and also depends on their individual lifestyle and habits. If your dog gets smelly in between full shampoo baths, opt for a simple plain water rinse in between. Dogs that spend more time indoors and rarely get dirty will require less regular baths. Depending on how smelly they get, a bath somewhere between every 2 to 3 months would be about right. Double-coated breeds, such as Labs, should really only be bathed every three months — or even less often — unless they get particularly smelly. Their oily double coats will dry out from too much shampooing, depleting the insulating, protective properties and waterproofing their coat has. Just as with humans, shampooing too often has a tendency to dry out the skin and hair, leading to irritation, scratching and in extreme cases maybe even lesions. The best way to prolong time between baths and keep your dog looking healthy and clean is to commit to a daily brushing schedule. Unlike humans who breathe in allergens, dogs absorb them through their skin. This can lead to irritation, scratching and eventually — in extreme cases — lesions. Tips For How to Bathe Your Dog You could just carelessly bundle your pooch into the bath, get them wet, lather, rinse and repeat. But of course, the best results come with a little planning. Before bathing, brush your dog to remove any tangles and debris caught in their hair. Prepare the room for bath time by assembling products ready to use, laying down towels or waterproof sheets and keeping treats on hand to reward good behavior. If they need to be restrained, use a muzzle or a specialist bathing tether. Introduce them to the water slowly by spraying their backs first and keeping the power on low, allowing them to get used to the sensation. Use a soft brush in the direction of hair growth to best lather in the shampoo and avoid any tangles. Use the brush again to gently clean the paw pads. Rinse thoroughly by wetting the head and face first before working your way down the rest of their body. Keep rinsing until the water runs clear. At this point, some owners choose to use a specialist dog conditioner to seal the hair cuticle and keep the coat shiny and full of moisture. Once all shampoo and conditioners have been washed out, lift your dog out of the bath and wrap them in an absorbent towel. Avoid rubbing them dry as this can tangle their hair; blot the coat instead. They will probably want to shake themselves dry too. Make sure your dog stays in the warm until they are completely dry. The best shampoo and conditioner for your dog depends on the type of coat and skin that they have. For example, short-haired dogs with a relatively oily coat will do best with a standard shampoo, while dogs with long hair that needs a lot of brushing benefit from a conditioner. Dogs with sensitive skin can benefit from a hypoallergenic formula, while dogs that spend a lot of time in the great outdoors need a heavy-duty formula. But whichever shampoo you go for, try to choose something all natural that does not include any chemicals or additives that might hurt your dog. Earthbath does a wide range of shampoos and conditioners made from all-natural ingredients. They are gentle products ideal for most dogs, but you might want something stronger when dealing with a very dirty pooch. This is because the pH level of human hair and skin and dog skin and hair is different. Dogs are neutral while humans are acidic. This is why it is better to use a special dog shampoo, which has a neutral pH ideal for dogs. While it is preferable to use dog shampoo on dogs rather than any variety of human shampoo, baby shampoo is safe for dogs. It is fine to use human shampoo on your dog as a one-off, though make sure it does not get into their eyes. How often you should wash your dog depends on both their breed and their lifestyle. Dogs with longer hair are more likely to trap dirt and debris in their coat, and outdoor dogs need bathing more often than indoor dogs. As a general rule of thumb, consider bathing your dog every four to six weeks. It is only necessary to use a small amount of shampoo when bathing your dog, as the lathering effect allows it to expand and cover your dog completely. If you use excess shampoo, it can be difficult to thoroughly rinse. Exactly how much depends on the size of your dog and the thickness of their coat. Start with a small amount and add more as needed. Final Thoughts While the right shampoo and conditioner for your dog depends on them — their breed, type of coat, skin condition, and sensitivities — just remember that the right shampoo for them is not your shampoo! Dogs have very different needs, which is why they have their own products. It can also be nice to choose something that contains natural skin-soothing products such as oatmeal and Aloe Vera. Coat Type And Condition Labradors have a unique double coat consisting of a dense, soft undercoat that insulates them from cold weather and an outer water-resistant layer. This distinctive fur requires specialized care to maintain its health. One common issue among Labrador retrievers is shedding — they are notorious shedders! Regular grooming , including brushing and bathing with the right shampoo, can help manage this problem. For example, some shampoos, like Labs, are designed for breeds with double coats. These can penetrate both layers for thorough cleansing without stripping away natural oils. Besides keeping their coat looking sleek and shiny, using such products may reduce shedding by removing loose excess hair during bath time. If they have dry or itchy skin, opt for hypoallergenic or oatmeal-based formulas, which are gentle on sensitive skin. Skin Sensitivity Or Allergies This is quite common for this breed. Like humans, dogs can react adversely to certain ingredients found in shampoos. Consider hypoallergenic dog shampoos with aloe vera or oatmeal to minimize the risk. Oatmeal shampoo is an excellent option as it helps soothe dry skin while relieving inflammation caused by allergies. Remember that not all dog shampoos are created equal. Some contain chemicals or artificial fragrances, which could exacerbate or create new sensitivities. Look for dog shampoos containing ingredients like neem, cedarwood, or rosemary extract, known to repel fleas and ticks. Some shampoos also include topical flea treatments built-in, which provide an extra layer of protection against these pesky parasites. However, they may not completely eliminate them if your dog already has an infestation. Use additional flea and tick treatments as your veterinarian recommends in those cases. Go only for natural ingredients such as colloidal oatmeal, almond oil, or aloe vera-based dog shampoos with no chemical dyes or fragrances. Factors such as coat type and condition, skin sensitivity or allergies, and parasite prevention should be considered. For example, if your dog has itchy skin, y opt for a natural oatmeal shampoo that soothes irritated skin. Another thing to remember when selecting the right shampoo for your Lab is their age. Puppies require gentler tear-free shampoos, while adult dogs may benefit from shampoos that contain nourishing oils like coconut. Look for shampoos made with all-natural ingredients such as aloe vera, oatmeal, and essential oils like mint or coconut oil. Chemicals in some shampoos can exacerbate skin conditions like dryness or itching. Before choosing the best shampoo for your Labrador, consult with your veterinarian. They can also advise on any special requirements or allergies that must be considered when selecting a pet shampoo. Additionally, if other shampoos have caused an allergic reaction, your vet may suggest switching to a hypoallergenic dog shampoo like Earthbath Hypo-Allergenic Dog Shampoo. Is it OK to feed a dog once a day? Feed adult dogs twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. However, the feeding frequency can vary depending on age, health, and activity level. What Is Anti Shedding Shampoo? It typically contains ingredients that help to loosen the dead hair and make it easier to brush out. Here are some ways to deshed your dog at home: Brush your dog regularly. This is the most important thing you can do to control shedding. Brushing helps to remove loose hair and distribute natural oils throughout the coat, which can help to prevent matting and tangles. Use a deshedding tool. Various deshedding tools are available, such as a Furminator or a shedding rake. These tools can help to remove even more loose hair than brushing alone. Bathe your dog regularly. Bathing your dog helps to remove dirt, debris, and loose hair. Feed your dog a healthy diet. Consider using supplements. Several supplements can help to reduce shedding, such as omega-3 fatty acids and biotin. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the best way to stop your dog from shedding so fast will vary depending on the individual dog. However, some things you can try include: Brushing your dog regularly. Medicated dog shampoo Dry shampoo for dogs Do you find your dog smelling a bit unpleasant between washes? It is formulated for sensitive skin, which is great for dogs with allergies and other sensitivities. Dog conditioner Want a soft, luxurious coat for your dog? Why not get a special conditioner for dogs? It conditions well, washes out easily, and does not weigh hair down. However, we selected them for inclusion independently, and all of the views expressed in this article are our own. Due to this, it was reasonably easy for us to find several great shampoos on the market that are perfect for Labrador Retrievers. Most good dog shampoos control shedding to some extent, so we had a wide range to pick from. However, we did manage to come to a conclusion. This excellent shampoo is no different from any of their others in terms of quality. This is a 2 in 1 product that also conditions while it cleans — which is great news for our Labrador Retrievers and their tendency to shed. A lovely addition to this product is lavender, which is a natural soothing agent that creates a calming therapeutic effect via aromatherapy. No expense has been spared here, and one of the most effective and powerful yet gentle natural cleansers on the planet provide the bulk of the cleaning power in this product — lemongrass. The huge lemongrass infusion in this formula demolishes any bacteria that are currently residing on your pooch which is what causes them to stink and leaves them fresher and cleaner than ever. Again, this is a 2 in 1 shampoo that contains a conditioner in the formula. Either way, this is an excellent product that is more than worthy of your consideration. This is a super gentle formula that has been created specifically to cater to the needs of younger pups. Despite being gentle and tearless, this is an effective 4 in 1 shampoo that cleans, conditions, nourishes, and protects against pests all at the same time. We assume this is because the compounds that are used in other deshedding formulas are incompatible with the tearless nature of this product. Start your puppy on this, and when they get a little older — transition to one of the adult recommendations on this page instead. FURminator DeShedding Ultra Premium Shampoo For Dogs As you might have guessed from the title, this is a product that has been designed specifically to deal with dogs that are causing their owners issues with shedding. The soap-free and alcohol-free formula gets its cleaning power from oatmeal, and the honey in the formula is excellent at promoting a healthy coat and will also provide a little bit of help in the shedding department but not as much as the two recommendations above. It might not have the bells and whistles of some of the other shampoos we have talked about today — but it gets the job done without breaking the bank. The huge amount of hair on a Labrador Retriever traps water and soap more than other single coated or short-haired breeds. Dog shampoo is not meant to be left on your pooch after the bathing session is over — all of it needs to be removed. You should be super careful when rinsing your Labrador Retriever to ensure that you get every single last drop of shampoo off of them before you take them out of the bath. Go over your pooch once with water like normal, and then give them a second quicker rinse to get any shampoo that managed to avoid your rinsing efforts the first time around. Give them a really good brushing before putting them in the tub and remember to give them a quick brush after bathing too. Get Everything Ready Before Bathing Our Labrador Retrievers are perhaps one of the few breeds of dog that have a reasonable chance of enjoying bath time. Labrador Retrievers can often see it as a fun experience instead of something stressful that needs to be endured. A super excitable soaking wet dog running around your home while you go and grab something from the other room is going to ruin your day, to say the least. The combination of a super smooth ceramic surface combined with a healthy dose of hot soapy water makes an already slippery situation even worse. This is one of the most common misconceptions we hear about Labrador Retrievers. Some people claim that black Labrador Retrievers shed less than chocolate or yellow Labrador Retrievers or the other way around. The myth seems to come from owners that have had more than one Labrador Retriever in their household at the same time. We suspect that they have noticed more hair from one their dogs than the other and as such the claim that different colored Labrador Retrievers shed different amounts. There is no real-world evidence whatsoever to back this claim up. However, you should never use a normal human hairdryer with a Labrador Retriever or any breed for that matter. In the Standard Goldendoodle, you could expect the males to be roughly inches taller and may weigh pounds more. Another important aspect to consider is the size of the parents. Just like with humans, the genetics that are passed from the parents to their offspring play a role in how large a Goldendoodle will get. However, keep in mind that genetics are tough to predict. Finally, which generation of Goldendoodle your dog is will be a big part of how big they will get! Check out our article on the F1 vs F1B Goldendoodle to learn more! A Goldendoodle that has more Poodle than Goldendoodle could be slightly smaller than a Goldendoodle that has more Golden Retriever than Poodle. Simply put, the higher percentage of the smaller dog, the smaller the dog is likely to be. When Do Goldendoodles Stop Growing? Golden Retrievers are generally full grown by 2 years of age. Standard Poodles can take 1. In contrast, Miniature and Toy Poodles are generally done growing by months of age. Standard Goldendoodles will likely take longer to reach their final size than Mini, Toy, or Teacup Goldendoodles. This is because larger dogs grow slower over a longer period of time in comparison to smaller breeds. A Standard or Medium Goldendoodle will likely grow like a weed for the first year and a half of their life, but may continue to grow and completely fill out until 2 years of age. Considering the mixes that create the Mini, Toy, and Teacup Goldendoodles, they should be done growing closer to months old. Although a playful pup sounds endearing, consider how many games of fetch or tag you want to play each day, and whether you have kids or other dogs who can stand in as playmates for the dog. Click here for more information on this characteristic Goldendoodle Overview Also known as the Groodle, the Goldendoodle ranges in size from small to large, depending on the variant of Poodle that the Golden Retriever is crossed with. Originally bred as a larger alternative to the already popular designer breed known as the Cockapoo, the Goldendoodle has proven to be an excellent family dog. Goldendoodles have achieved success as guide dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs, and sniffer dogs one study tested their success at sniffing out peanuts in foods for owners with nut allergies. Goldendoodles have also done well in agility. The Goldendoodle is an affectionate and gentle dog that has gained popularity since he was first developed in s. Goldendoodles are usually highly social and get along well with everyone. Goldendoodles should not live outside or in a kennel, however, since they thrive when they are in contact with the people they love. Goldendoodles can be very easy to train and are a good match for first-time or timid owners. The best way to avoid any destructive behavior is to crate them and to provide toys and treats to keep them busy throughout the day. Goldendoodles are considered to be non- to light shedders and may be a good match for people with allergies. They do require weekly or biweekly brushing , and many owners opt to have them clipped. They have become popular quickly, and their star is still rising. They make excellent family dogs and provide gentle, intelligent companionship throughout their lifetimes. The Goldendoodle is the result of Poodle to Golden Retriever breedings. So far there are very few multigenerational breedings crosses between two Goldendoodles. The Goldendoodle is considered to be a non- to light shedder, but he requires regular grooming and clipping. If the coat is kept short, it should be clipped every six to eight weeks and brushed every few weeks. If the coat is kept in its natural state, it should be brushed once every week or two. He may not bark even if someone knocks on the door. He does much better in a home with a fenced yard. The Goldendoodle requires about 20 to 30 minutes of daily exercise. Being a wonderful family companion, the Goldendoodle generally gets along well with children and does well with other dogs and family pets. The Goldendoodle is a very social dog who should not live away from his family. The Goldendoodle can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods at a time. The Goldendoodle may make an excellent companion to people with allergies. To get a healthy dog, never buy a puppy from an irresponsible breeder, puppy mill, or pet store. Breeding began in the s, after both the Cockapoo and the Labradoodle gained footholds. The fact that the Goldendoodle is still a fairly young cross means that most pups are the result of first-generation breeding. That is, most are Golden Retriever and Poodle mixes; as of yet, breeding rarely occurs between pairs of Goldendoodles. Despite the fact that the Goldendoodle has gained some popularity, especially in Australia, there is still no breed club or registry in existence. There are, however, several online communities for the Goldendoodle lover and owner. Goldendoodle Size Goldendoodles vary in size. These dogs tend to range in size from 13 to 20 inches in height and 15 to 35 pounds in weight. The average height for a Small Standard Goldendoodle is 17 to 20 inches; the weight is 40 to 50 pounds. The Large Standard Goldendoodle averages 20 to 24 inches in height and weighs 50 to 90 pounds. Goldendoodle Personality The Goldendoodle has not become popular for lack of good reason. His positive personality traits are numerous — he endears himself to everyone he meets with his friendly, intelligent, accepting nature. He is loyal and, with proper training, can be highly obedient. He does have a playful side and can be mischievous if the mood hits. Temperament is affected by a number of factors, including heredity, training , and socialization. Puppies with nice temperaments are curious and playful, willing to approach people and be held by them. Meeting siblings or other relatives of the parents is also helpful for evaluating what a puppy will be like when he grows up. Socialization helps ensure that your Goldendoodle puppy grows up to be a well-rounded dog. Enrolling him in a puppy kindergarten class is a great start. Inviting visitors over regularly, and taking him to busy parks, stores that allow dogs, and on leisurely strolls to meet neighbors will also help him polish his social skills. Health clearances prove that a dog has been tested for and cleared of a particular condition. You can confirm health clearances by checking the OFA web site offa. Patellar Luxation: Also known as slipped stifles, this is a common problem in small dogs. The patella is the kneecap. Luxation means dislocation of an anatomical part as a bone at a joint. Patellar luxation is when the knee joint often of a hind leg slides in and out of place, causing pain. This can be crippling, although many dogs lead relatively normal lives with this condition. Ear Infections: These can be a problem for Goldendoodles because of their floppy ears, which trap moisture. Check and clean the ears regularly. X-ray screening is the most certain way to diagnose the problem. Either way, arthritis can develop as the dog ages. Elbow Dysplasia: Similar to hip dysplasia, this condition is also a degenerative disease. The disease varies in severity: the dog could simpy develop arthritis, or he could become lame. Treatment includes surgery, weight management, medical management, and anti-inflammatory medication. Progressive Retinal Atrophy PRA : This is a family of eye diseases that involves the gradual deterioration of the retina. Early in the disease, affected dogs become night-blind; they lose sight during the day as the disease progresses. Many affected dogs adapt well to their limited or lost vision, as long as their surroundings remain the same. An affected dog will have symptoms such as nosebleeds, bleeding gums, prolonged bleeding from surgery, prolonged bleeding during heat cycles or after whelping, and occasionally blood in the stool. However, it can be managed with treatments that include cauterizing or suturing injuries, transfusions before surgery, and avoidance of specific medications. Allergies: Allergies are a common ailment in dogs, and the Goldendoodle is no exception. Treatment varies according to the cause and may include dietary restrictions, medications, and environmental changes. Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus: Also called bloat, this is a life-threatening condition that can affect large, deep-chested dogs such as large Goldendoodles. This is especially true if they are fed one large meal a day, eat rapidly, drink large volumes of water after eating, and exercise vigorously after eating. Bloat is more common among older dogs. GDV occurs when the stomach is distended with gas or air and then twists torsion. The dog is unable to belch or vomit to rid himself of the excess air in the stomach, and the normal return of blood to the heart is impeded. Blood pressure drops and the dog goes into shock. Without immediate medical attention, the dog can die. Suspect bloat if your dog has a distended abdomen and is salivating excessively and retching without throwing up. He also may be restless, depressed, lethargic, and weak, with a rapid heart rate. Hypothyroidism: This is a disorder of the thyroid gland. It is treated with medication and diet. Goldendoodle Care The Goldendoodle can be easy to train. He should be trained with positive reinforcement, since harsh corrections could damage his confidence. Socialization is important for all breeds, but for a gentle dog like the Goldendoodle it can be instrumental in discouraging any shyness or timidity. The Goldendoodle has an average energy level and will require daily exercise through walks or a good romp in the back yard. Generally speaking, 20 to 30 minutes of daily exercise will be enough to keep a Goldendoodle from becoming bored. Since the Goldendoodle may grow large, he does require room to move. Goldendoodle Feeding Recommended daily amount: 1 to 4 cups depending on adult size of high-quality dry food a day, divided into multiple meals. NOTE: How much your adult dog eats depends on his size, age, build, metabolism, and activity level. It almost goes without saying that a highly active dog will need more than a couch potato dog. Keep your Goldendoodle in good shape by measuring his food and feeding him twice a day rather than leaving food out all the time. First, look down at him. You should be able to see a waist. Then place your hands on his back, thumbs along the spine, with the fingers spread downward. You should be able to feel but not see his ribs without having to press hard. A Goldendoodle should also be fed several small meals per day instead of one large one, since the Golden Retriever can suffer from gastric torsion, or bloat , a trait that can be easily passed on to any Goldendoodle offspring. For more on feeding your Goldendoodle, see our guidelines for buying the right food , feeding your puppy , and feeding your adult dog. Goldendoodle Coat Color And Grooming The Goldendoodle should have a wavy to curly coat of about two to three inches in length. He has longer hair on the tail, body, ears, and legs legs may be slightly feathered ; the hair on the head and muzzle tends to be shorter. The coat can be black, copper, white, cream, gray, golden, apricot, or red, although golden seems to be the common coat color. Owners generally opt to clip the coat for easier maintenance; but if you choose to leave it in its natural state, expect to brush it about once every week or two. Daily brushing is even better if you want to prevent gum disease and bad breath. Dog toenails have blood vessels in them, and if you cut too far you can cause bleeding — and your dog may not cooperate the next time he sees the nail clippers come out. His ears should be checked weekly for redness or a bad odor, which can indicate an infection. Handle his paws frequently — dogs are touchy about their feet — and look inside his mouth. As you groom, check for sores, rashes, or signs of infection such as redness, tenderness, or inflammation on the skin, in the nose, mouth, and eyes, and on the feet. Eyes should be clear, with no redness or discharge. Your careful weekly exam will help you spot potential health problems early. As with every breed, you should always teach children how to approach and touch dogs, and always supervise any interactions between dogs and young children to prevent any biting or ear or tail pulling on the part of either party. No dog, no matter how friendly, should ever be left unsupervised with a child. Goldendoodle Rescue Groups Goldendoodles are often purchased without any clear understanding of what goes into owning one. There are many Goldendoodles in need of adoption and or fostering. There are a number of rescues that we have not listed. Goldendoodle Breed Organizations Finding a reputable dog breeder is one of the most important decisions you will make when bringing a new dog into your life. Reputable breeders are committed to breeding healthy, well-socialized puppies that will make great companions. They will screen their breeding stock for health problems, socialize their puppies from a young age, and provide you with lifetime support. On the other hand, backyard breeders are more interested in making a profit than in producing healthy, well-adjusted dogs. They may not screen their breeding stock for health problems, and they may not socialize their puppies properly. As a result, puppies from backyard breeders are more likely to have both health and behavioral issues. More Info For You. By Patricia Kaowthumrong. Reviewed by Barri J. Morrison, DVM on Dec. Since then, the dogs have been coveted companions that are beloved for having low-shedding qualities, a clever-yet-highly-trainable personality, and a patient family-friendly nature. The standard large-size, wavy-haired Goldendoodle can grow to 20—24 inches tall and about 50—90 pounds, but also come in smaller sizes as Mini Goldendoodles. Caring for a Goldendoodle The Goldendoodle is bred to exhibit the best qualities of both the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Goldendoodles are very intelligent and do well in obedience classes and agility training. While they can live happily with other dogs, cats, and children, the pups can be prone to separation anxiety. Goldendoodle Health Issues Goldendoodles are generally healthy dogs that can live 10—15 years, but they are prone to common health conditions of the Poodle and Golden Retriever breeds. Discomfort is commonly displayed by pups via limited mobility, which can include reduced activity, difficulty going up stairs, or even difficulty just getting up. Heart Disease Goldendoodles are genetically predisposed to heart disease, particularly a congenital variation called subvalvular aortic stenosis SAS. The heart must work harder than normal to pump blood through this narrowed area, causing heart muscle abnormalities, says Whittenburg. Grain-free and boutique brand foods should be avoided. Glaucoma is an eye disease involving increased pressure. Symptoms pet parents should look out for include bulging eyeballs, watery discharge, redness to the whites of the eyes, and dilated pupils. The condition can be treated with long-term medication. If left untreated, glaucoma can lead to blindness. Cataracts is a common condition in dogs that causes clouding in the eyes and can lead to vision loss. Cataracts can be treated with surgery but, left untreated, can lead to complete loss of vision. What To Feed a Goldendoodle A balanced diet will help your Goldendoodle maintain a healthy weight and avoid obesity-related health conditions. That means ensuring your pup eats the proper amount of high-quality dog food and always has access to fresh water. First bred in the late s as guide dogs, the Goldendoodle—a crossbreed of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle—became a popular household pet in the United States during the s. To help reduce the risks of heart disease, avoid feeding your dog grain-free and boutique brand foods, Whittenburg says. Behavior and Training Tips for Goldendoodles Goldendoodle Personality and Temperament If socialized properly as puppies, Goldendoodles can certainly live in homes with other canines. Goldendoodles are energetic dogs that require 30—60 minutes of physical exercise per day, which can encompass a combination of everything from walks and runs to hikes and playtime. Pet parents should avoid leaving their four-legged friends at home alone for too long. Goldendoodles are energetic dogs that require 30—60 minutes of physical exercise per day. Overall, Goldendoodles are known for their gentle temperament, making them ideal for households with kids and elders. Goldendoodle Training Goldendoodles are known for being intelligent and easily trained, so they excel in activities like agility and obedience classes. They respond well to positive reinforcement techniques, using treats to reward good behavior. Available in both the larger standard size and as a smaller miniature, goldendoodles are playful yet gentle dogs that crave human interaction. They do best with daily walks or outdoor play sessions to fill their physical fitness needs and, because both of their parent breeds are friendly and highly intelligent , goldendoodles are ideal for families with small children , first-time dog owners , and as emotional support animals. Appearance Because poodles range in size more than golden retrievers, a goldendoodle's height and weight depend largely on his poodle lineage. Specifically, a standard poodle will result in a full-size goldendoodle, while a miniature poodle parent likely reduces a pup's full-grown stature. Standard doodles can stand more than 21 inches tall and weigh up to pounds. Miniature goldendoodles typically weigh no more than 35 pounds and stand less than 14—17 inches tall. While golden retrievers have coats that stick to the wheat or golden range, a poodle can be one of many colors—this variation also shows up in goldendoodles. While the teddy bear gold hue might be the most popular, breeding can also result in black, white, brown, cream, and red goldendoodles. In very rare cases, a pup bred from multiple generations of doodles will have recessive color traits such as gray, blue, or even be multi-colored. The most common eye color for this breed is brown. As a descendant of the poodle—a popular option for dog owners with allergies—a goldendoodle doesn't shed much , which means they can be a good fit for people who tend to sneeze or itch around pups. For owners who want a big dog that doesn't shed, a doodle that's 75 percent standard poodle and 25 percent golden retriever known as an F1B goldendoodle is a good option. These inherit a curlier poodle coat that's better for those with dog allergies. A goldendoodle can have very curly, poodle-like locks or inherit a more wavy mane from their retriever parent. And despite their allergen-friendly fur, doodles have a double coat that consists of a dense undercoat of short hairs beneath a top coat of longer hairs, called guard hairs. Dogs with this layered fur need regular brushing. Temperament Goldendoodles get their gentle nature from their golden retriever side, making them a wonderful option for families with young children. They're naturally inclined to be careful with infants and toddlers, and will be patient companions for children as they grow up. However, as with any breed, you still need to supervise small kiddos and dogs, and make sure your children learn how to properly interact with pets. As extremely affectionate dogs, they love to socialize and rarely meet a human or fellow animal they don't like—even smaller critters like cats. Instead of wanting to chase, goldendoodles are laid-back and almost bashful. Both poodles and golden retrievers score in the top five of the smartest dog breeds, according to the Goldendoodle Association of North America. So while playful, these pups are obedient with the proper training. They can learn some fun tricks, too. Near the foothills of the Appalachian mountains, Lynne Whitmire has been breeding goldendoodles for over 15 years. The GANA blue ribbon breeder believes the goldendoodle's temperament is one of the best things about them. With such an easygoing attitude, they'll flourish with additional playmates dogs and humans alike. Doodles are also known for loving water; swimming gives them another outlet to get their exercise. While outdoor time is still important, a miniature goldendoodle is more apt to enjoy apartment living than a standard-size doodle. And as long as your pup has been properly trained and socialized, neither the standard or miniature goldendoodles are excessive barkers , so you won't have to worry about any grumpy neighbors. Care Even with little to no shedding, goldendoodles, like all poodles and poodle hybrids, still need consistent grooming to keep their coat healthy. They'll need to see a professional groomer every 6—8 weeks, but won't need much bathing beyond that. Frequent baths can actually cause dry skin, so experts recommend only bathing doodles if they're smelly or dirty. The curlier the coat, the more often they'll need to be brushed. But in general, a goldendoodle needs daily brushing to avoid painful matting. However, if they have a straight coat or a very short hairdo, weekly brushing sessions will be sufficient. A fenced backyard makes exercise easy, but a brisk walk around the neighborhood will also do. Doodles love social interaction with humans and playdates with fellow pups, so they generally shouldn't be left home alone for long periods of time. A lonely or bored goldendoodle can develop separation anxiety and exhibit undesirable behaviors, including digging or barking. Proper socialization and attention should start early and continue throughout the dog's life to ensure good behaviors. Quick to learn and eager to please, these pooches are excellent for first-time dog owners. As with all breeds, they do best with positive reinforcement training and rewarding good behavior with treats. Even a young goldendoodle puppy can learn tricks and obedience through early training and socialization. Health Goldendoodles have a lifespan of 10—15 years, and in general they're very healthy dogs. But, as with all breeds, they can be susceptible to certain health issues. Varying types of cancer can also be passed down from the golden retriever parent, so a health clearance is important to ensure a healthy pup. Consult your veterinarian about warning signs to look out for. Their floppy ears can trap moisture, so owners should clean their dog's ears soon after any water-related activities or bathtime. As with any new puppy, it's important to request a health clearance from the breeder. And all reputable breeders should conduct the appropriate health tests and provide documentation when you buy your goldendoodle puppy. Because this hybrid is so popular , you need to do your research before working with any breeder. As a general rule, avoid breeders who sell multiple mixed breeds, offer to ship puppies, are difficult to contact, or don't let you meet your puppy's parents. In fact, goldendoodles have many similar characteristics to that earlier hybrid. However, goldendoodle coats can be longer and wavier, thanks to their golden retriever genes. Labradoodles, on average, are also slightly larger. Although both types of doodles are very friendly, goldens are generally more enthusiastic about meeting new people. They inherit a social, happy-go-lucky attitude from the golden retriever that differentiates them slightly from their Lab-mix cousins. Labradoodles were created to be guide dogs, and goldendoodles are also commonly used as emotional support animals and therapy dogs. As goldendoodles gained popularity, breeders began taking requests for more variations. They introduced new sizes and traits to please all sorts of dog owners: petites and minis, unique colors, curlier or straighter coats. The goldendoodle may be one of the newest poodle mix crossbreeds, but the breed's popularity is still on the rise. We have Aussies to thank for the growing popularity and the cool name variation. The TV personality and cookbook author has a cream goldendoodle named Gus , who loves to eat her homemade peanut butter dog biscuits. They are also a good choice for families who love outdoor activities such as hiking or long walks. Medium Goldendoodles are often described as being the perfect balance between size and activity level, making them a versatile breed that can adapt to many different living situations. Standard Goldendoodles: Standard Goldendoodles are typically large dogs, weighing more than 50 pounds and standing 21 to 24 inches tall, are ideal for families with ample space. Standard Goldendoodles are often described as being the most energetic and playful of the four sizes, making them a great choice for families who are looking for a pet that can keep up with their active lifestyle. A well-balanced diet and regular exercise are essential for keeping your Goldendoodle at a healthy weight. It is also important to understand that the size of a Goldendoodle can vary depending on the size of the parents. It is best to consult with a breeder to determine which size is best for your specific situation. Growth Patterns in: Similar to Golden retrievers, a Goldendoodle puppy will experience rapid growth in their first few months, followed by a slower rate of growth until they reach their full grown size at 1 to 2 years of age and shortly after that they will stop growing. Personality: In terms of personality, Goldendoodles are known for being friendly, intelligent, and affectionate, making them great family pets. For example, if the parents are more active and energetic, their Goldendoodle offspring is likely to be the same. On the other hand, if the parents are more reserved and calm, their Goldendoodle offspring is likely to have a more laid-back personality. Grooming: In terms of grooming, Goldendoodles require regular brushing to keep their coats tangle-free and healthy. They also require regular grooming to maintain their fluffy coat, including regular bathing and trimming. Exercise: When it comes to exercise, Goldendoodles are generally active dogs who enjoy playing and exploring. Depending on their size, they may require different amounts of exercise. For example, Miniature Goldendoodles may be content with a daily walk around the block, while standard Goldendoodles may need more intensive exercise, such as a long hike or run. They are intelligent dogs who are eager to please their owners, making them relatively easy to train. However, like all dogs, they do require patience and consistency. Goldendoodles respond well to positive reinforcement techniques, such as treats and praise, and can be trained to perform a variety of tasks, including obedience, agility, and tracking. Health: In terms of health, Goldendoodles are generally healthy dogs with a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. However, like all breeds, they can be prone to certain health issues. Some of the most common health concerns in Goldendoodles include hip dysplasia, allergies, and ear infections. Regular veterinary check-ups, purchasing a Goldendoodle from a reputable breeder, and a healthy diet can help to minimize the risk of these health issues. Another important factor to consider when it comes to Goldendoodle growth is exercise. Exercising and eating healthy things like fruits and vegetables, helps to maintain a healthy weight, promotes good muscle tone and bone density, and can even enhance overall mental and emotional health. Exercise also helps to prevent behavioral issues such as excessive barking and destructive chewing. This helps prevent injury and allows their bones and muscles to grow at a healthy pace. Over-exercising a growing Goldendoodle can lead to long-term joint and orthopedic issues. Socialization helps puppies get used to new people, animals, and environments, and can help prevent fear and aggression issues as they mature. Some tips for socializing a Goldendoodle include: Introducing them to new people, animals, and environments in a positive and controlled manner Allowing them to play and interact with other dogs Enrolling them in puppy classes or obedience training Taking them on trips and exposing them to new experiences By providing proper exercise and socialization, you can help your Goldendoodle grow into a confident and well-adjusted adult. Finally the overall healthiness of a Goldendoodle can be affected by genetics, diet, and environment. In conclusion, at Fox Creek Farm Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles we have a multitude of different sizes of Goldendoodles for sale — Petite, Mini, Medium, and Standard — we offer a wide range of options for pet owners, and understanding their growth chart and monitoring their weight and height is important for ensuring a healthy growth rate. Goldendoodle Temperament How big do Goldendoodles get? History and Traits Goldendoodles were first bred in the s but rose to popularity as a favorite designer breed in the s. These fun, affectionate dogs are known to be sweet and patient with children and build strong bonds with their families as pups. Since Goldendoodles are a comparatively new breed, many of the pups alive today are first-generation, meaning they are the offspring of golden retrievers and poodles. While Goldendoodles are often just considered pets, they can also succeed in working roles, such as therapy dogs, emotional support pets, guide dogs, watchdogs and scent tracking dogs. They have a very high activity level. Goldendoodles are a more emotionally responsive breed, so your furry friend will soak up any extra time they get with you, and they make a great family dog, having a lifespan of years. How Big Do Goldendoodles Get: Sizes of Goldendoodles As with many hybrid dog types, Goldendoodles have been bred to come in a variety of sizes to accommodate owner needs and preferences. The most common sizes for Goldendoodles are standard, medium, and miniature Goldendoodle. Standard Size Standard-size Goldendoodles are the largest of the three classes, so potential owners should be ready to accommodate them with more space to live and play. Female and male standard Goldendoodles weigh 50 pounds or more. Expect an adult size standard Goldendoodle to measure around 22 inches or more from the floor to the top of the shoulder. Medium Size Medium Goldendoodles are a popular choice as they are small enough to live in apartments and condos but large enough to serve as working dogs or substantial family pets. From floor to shoulder, medium Goldendoodles typically stand around 15 to 20 inches as adults. Both genders stay in a comparable weight range when fully grown, coming in between 30 and 45 pounds. Mini Size These mini Goldendoodle small dogs are lovable furballs that can be an ideal choice for those who live in small apartments, travel frequently in RVs or just want a loyal friend in a bite-sized package. Like medium Goldendoodles, males and females are comparable in stature and weigh under 30 pounds as adults. They usually stand around 15 inches at the shoulder when fully grown. Now you know how big do Goldendoodles get and the sizes you can choose from. Predicting the mature size of a puppy is by no means an exact science, especially with a hybrid breed like the goldendoodle. How big will my goldendoodle puppy be? From birth until the gotchya day, puppies have fluctuated back and forth in terms of who weighs the most. Even though adult weight is a bit of a guess for a young puppy, expect mini goldendoodles to weigh 4lbs-9lbs at 8 weeks of age. A medium puppy and standard puppy may both weigh 9lbs at 8 weeks old, but the standard puppy with gain weight at a quicker rate than the medium. Like most dog breeds, goldendoodles generally do the majority of their growing in the first six months of life. In fact, many mini goldendoodle puppies reach half of their adult weight by four months. Standard goldendoodles may take a month or so longer to reach that halfway mark. The larger the dog, the longer growing takes. For mini goldendoodles, expect the weight to start leveling off between months of age. Standard goldendoodles, like other large dog breeds, will grow for a longer period of time. While this rule may work for many standards, it is not accurate with smaller-sized goldendoodles who finish growing at a younger age. When will my goldendoodle stop growing? Dogs can finish growing anywhere between years of age, but generally reach their maximum height by a year of age and spend the remaining months filling out. This means your dog might hit a growth spurt right after her first birthday — she might not get any taller but she could thicken up. Golden retrievers grow at a slower rate in terms of height than standard poodles, but fill out more quickly. Golden retrievers tend to finish growing and filling out between months while standard poodles can take up to 2 years to accomplish the same. Established breeds generally reproduce naturally, whereas first-generation mini goldendoodles require artificial insemination. Subsequent generations of hybrid breeds i. F1b, F2b, etc. F1b goldendoodles can potentially have a slightly more predictable size range if the parents are similar sizes. Our 19lb F1 goldendoodle and 24lb poodle produce F1b mini goldendoodle puppies ranging in weight from lbs as adults.
