It is the goal of the PDCA and all its members to help canines live longer, happier, and healthier lives by promoting welfare. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time.

Call Vic Kasser or Email! However they can be properly registered with grey by the AKC on their registration certificates. Furthermore there are alternative registries that accept Colored French Bulldogs. Strict anti-color enthusiasts like to say that French Bulldogs of DQ Disqualifiying Color, like blues, are less healthy or more prone to health issues. Blue is a recessive of the French Bulldog breeds Color genetics. Any breed that has the color "dominant black" within it's genetics can have blue born within it. Because it can be created by a mutation of Chromosome 25 which dilutes pigmentation. In the case of the blues they are a dilute of black. This is why you can see blue Rottweilers, Dobermans, Miniature Pinschers and so much more. Purebred, but a genetic anomaly. This mutation has never been proven to cause any health problems in itself. Because canine coat color genetics rarely affect any actual health matters with dogs. I say rarely because there are things like with Merle that can be deadly. Dilutes and Colour Dilution Alopecia : There is a common misconception that dilutes are in some way naturally sickly - this is not in fact the case. The dilution gene does impair the ability of the cells to make pigment, but only in that it causes the pigment that is made to be less intense. As with most recessives, the dilute allele is in some way faulty", but it is only faulty in its ability to produce full-strength eumelanin. The ability or inability of the cells to produce full-strength eumelanin does not affect the health of the dog, simply its color. That said, the idea of dilutes as unhealthy most likely has its foundations in Colour Dilution Alopecia. This is an apparently genetic disease causing hair loss and skin problems. A dog with this disorder will typically appear "mangy" and have partial hair loss. It is usually reported from blue dogs, but presumably it affects isabella dogs too diluted livers. Any colour can carry CDA or be homozygous for it, but only blues and isabellas will have symptoms. CDA does not occur on all dilutes and its frequency varies between breeds. Dilutes in other species such as mice are caused by the same gene, and yet CDA is not known in these, implying it is not an unavoidable consequence of dilution. It is thought that CDA may be caused by a specific dilution gene - labelled dl. Just as there are various different b alleles that all cause the liver color pheno typically the same, so only distinguishable through genetic testing , it is probable that there are a number of different d alleles as well, and only one of these causes CDA. What this means is that CDA is most likely caused by a recessive allele but could theoretically be bred out of most lines by careful breeding and genetic testing. The same problem can also occur albeit rarely on black or liver dogs, and is known as Black Hair Follicular Dysplasia. Because this condition is so rare, it often goes undiagnosed. Unfortunately for dogs with genetic hair loss conditions, there is no cure, although these conditions do not generally cause the dog to be itchy or uncomfortable and so are mostly harmless. Both the liver gene and the blue gene are recessive, and thus can be carried by practically any dog. The "mouse" color that is mentioned in the standard appears to refer to both blue dogs and dogs that are expressing both blue and liver at the same time, which is in other breeds known by such names as grey, fawn, Isabella, lavender, and lilac. However, the lilac coloration is seen least often of the three due to the need of the dog being homozygous recessive for both the liver and blue genes. This is what is implied by the French Bulldog Club of America. This amuses me somewhat since lilac can appear quite similar to fawn in color and since the standard allows for light pigment in light colored dogs, it's possible that a lilac could be considered acceptable. Once you have a pair of blues or a pair that carry the gene, when bred together they can produce blue pups. It's fairly easy to "create" blue once it's within a pedigree since it can be DNA tested for. Most breeders breed for color alone with no regard for health testing or care for structure type so the colored French Bulldogs don't even look like French Bulldogs sometimes which is the problem most anti-color enthusiasts have with colored breeders. Thankfully there are French Bulldog breeders who are striving for to produce better and better quality "alternative" colotred French Bulldogs as time goes on. Deafness is a huge concern with the French Bulldog breed because of the use of English White Terriers a breed that went extinct because of deafness to create the French Bulldog breed at it's origins. Also there is no known link to deafness because of coat color. There is no scientific proof as to what causes deafness. There is no "deafness gene" that has been mapped to check before breeding. In fact, there are on theories, again no solid proof. The best theory is that lack of pigmentation in the inner ear canal is a link and this is why you see a higher incidence of white headed, white eared dogs again their pattern or markings not color with hearing issues. Yes you can still have a traditional "show" marked dog that is deaf with dark inner ear canal. That is why deafness is such a mystery. Goes against what a lot of people believe huh? The numbers of research on deafness speak volumes to disprove the opinions of colors having more issue with deafness this is factual based information, not opinion. In Conclusion Except for a small possibility of blue dilution alopecia, there is nothing health-wise that would give a reason behind the exclusion of any of these colors from the standard. Thus, there really isn't any reason to exclude any of these "mismark" colors. The French bulldog is a companion breed, and as such arguments cannot be made for its working ability. However, color doesn't affect a dog's temperament, which is the biggest concern in a breed that is meant to be a companion. What is a Blue French Bulldog? Despite their diminutive stature, they exude a confidence that belies their stature. The French Bulldog breed is recognized for its distinctive smushed-in face and bat-like ear , which is always pricked and alert to its surroundings. Their tails are not docked, although they are frequently short and stumpy. Blue Frenchies have a silky coat and are petite and stocky. The Blue French Bulldog is much the same as any other colour Frenchie. They have a stocky build yet are petite, with loose skin and a brachycephalic face with prominent ears. The silky bluish-gray coat that distinguishes them is an uncommon feature. There are solid variations as well as ones with patterns that include some white. What is AKC Certification? An American Kennel Club Registered Dog is one whose owner has applied and gained permission from the American Kennel Club through a registration certificate. Knowing whether or not your dog is registered with the American Kennel Club gives our scientists another piece of crucial information. When you buy a dog reported to be AKC-registerable, the seller should give you an individual Dog Registration Application. With an AKC certification, you are also eligible to participate in a variety of AKC events, such as agility, obedience, dog shows, junior showmanship, and more. Although blue French Bulldogs are a recognized breed by the AKC, they are not considered show dogs or recognized as such because of their blue colour. Many people feel that due to the attractiveness of its blue colour, the blue French Bulldog has been overbred and is consequently prone to too many health issues. Although blue French bulldogs are excluded from shows because of their blue mouse colour and are not considered standard breeds, they can still be registered with the American Kennel Club. If your dog is considered a purebred and qualifies for AKC status, there are two simple methods to obtain their certification. Owners who want to register their dogs with the AKC can do so by applying and the required fee. If the dog was not acquired from his breeder directly, the AKC would demand a supplementary transfer statement, which is available on their website. Registration with the AKC entitles dog owners to specific benefits, such as the AKC Pet Healthcare Plan, which provides a free day health care plan for freshly registered dogs. A complimentary initial veterinary office visit from a participating veterinarian is included in the package. AKC registration also allows dogs and their owners to compete in AKC shows, agility, herding, and field contests, as well as hunting and tracking tests. These are the two organizations responsible dog breeders frequently use to register their litters. For the litter to be registered, the owners of the adult dogs must sign the registration application. On the other hand, some breeders will register with The United Kennel Club, which mandates litter registration before the puppies reach the age of a year. This will just increase your expenses. The AKC demands that the owner know and preserve the breed, registration name, number, litter number, sex, colour, and markings of the dog, as well as its date of birth while owning a registered dog. Your breeder will provide you with the names and phone numbers of the sire and dam, as well as their names, the name and address of the person from whom they purchased their dogs directly, and the date of purchase. All this information is required to ensure your dog is added to the correct breed lineage. Do Registered Puppies Cost More? Since there are many individuals with money to spend, pure breed dogs are pricey. They are prepared to pay astronomical fees for canines with a specific appearance. In reality, these consumers might not be getting a fair bargain because pure breeds are known to have several genetic abnormalities as a result of inbreeding. Due to the lower demand, adult dogs can cost a little less. If the price of this puppy is prohibitive, there are always shelters and rescues to consider. You will just have to pay adoption costs; nonetheless, Blue Frenchies are uncommon in shelters. AKC Papers do not guarantee quality. Most people believe that having their dogs registered with the American Kennel Club AKC makes them more valued than other dogs. The AKC does not prohibit the breeding of dogs with hip dysplasia. They do not guarantee that there has been no inbreeding. Now just enjoy and let your Frenchie enjoy their new surroundings. Latest posts.

However, it is important to use healthy treats with low fat content, such as fruits and vegetables, to avoid overfeeding and potential weight gain. Creating a strong bond and trust between you and your dog through training sessions can be highly advantageous for your relationship, ensuring a well-behaved and happy companion, and reducing the risk of dog attacks, including fatal dog attacks. Socialization Tips Socialization is essential for the American Bully XL, starting with the breeder and continuing with safe, positive interactions with people, animals, and various environments. However, it is highly recommended to consult with a veterinarian before starting a raw or home-cooked diet to ensure that your XL Bully receives all the necessary nutrients. When providing nutrition to your American Bully XL, it is important to consider their age, activity level, and any health issues they may have. Avoid grain-based fillers in their food. Transition to adult dog food at approximately 12 months of age. Engaging in regular physical activity not only helps to keep your dog fit and prevent obesity, but it also provides mental stimulation, reducing the likelihood of boredom and destructive behavior. Joint Problems Joint problems, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, are common in XL Bullies and can be managed with proper care, including weight management and regular exercise. These genetic disorders can cause abnormal development of the hip and elbow joints, which may be painful and require surgery to be corrected. To effectively manage joint problems in XL Bullies, it is important to maintain a healthy weight, as excess weight can put additional strain on their joints. If you suspect your XL Bully is experiencing joint issues, consult with your veterinarian for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Skin Conditions Skin conditions, including allergies and hot spots, can affect the American Bully XL, requiring regular grooming and monitoring for signs of irritation. Common skin conditions in XL Bullies include: Demodicosis mites. Please do not mix the American Staffie with the much smaller and far less aggressive English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Despite there notoriety they are still only a small amount of these dogs in the UK In the UK they have become the most sought-after breed of dog and are one of the most recent and most talked about of all the latest crossbreeds. These dogs are incredibly reactive and aggressive to both humans and dogs and almost any other animals. Aggression: Are XLs aggressive? This Bully dog is not afraid to socialise and meet new people. They are highly tolerant of children and strangers. I would imagine the gene pool in the UK is far smaller than in America. It could be that the writers of these glowing testaments are talking about the behaviour of their dogs and not the breed as a whole. Or they are looking through rose-tinted glasses, or they are lying. May I suggest all of those reasons are probably true? One of my specialities was in all types of aggression. I believe these dogs are over-reactive, stimulated by movement, distrustful of strangers and incredibly strong. I have assessed and been involved in numerous cases that have gone to court many I have assessed or defended in court showed the dog as not inherently aggressive. Unfortunately a number did. I have worked with every breed and crossbreed. I have never refused to assess or work with any type of dog breed over a period of 40 years, owning, handling, assessing and working with tens of thousands of them. Though I have retired now, this breed of dog is one I would totally refuse to work with, simply because of the danger to both humans and other dogs. I believe they are probably the most dangerous breed ever created and the following figures and statistics bear that statement out. Remember these are a new American breed and are particularly new to the UK. I would like to point out that these bully breeds were also bred for dog fighting and two of the main crosses in XL Bullys are the American Bulldog and the American Pitbull Terrier both commonly used. The tracking and protection part is to track and bring a man down. Dog Attacks and Deaths in the UK: Typically, there are less than 3 fatalities a year f In there were four deaths one was a young year-old boy called Jack Lis. However, in there was a massive leap in fatalities 10 people were killed, 6 of them killed by American XL Bullies and the 7th victim was by an American Bulldog. There have been six deaths already this year. One you may have read or heard about was a professional dog walker called Natasha Johnston. .As I was writing this article the Police issued an update saying she was killed by her own dog. Why did the police put the Cane Corso in as a cross when they are often used to create the XL Bully in the first place? The dog was described as a large bulldog-type breed and was believed to be a banned breed. The sixth death was two Rottweillers once again Mastiff Breeds. Conclusion: Think for just a minute about those facts and statistics, The majority of the fatalities including children as young as 17 months were caused by one breed of dog that is new and fairly rare in this country. People are buying them as family pets on the glowing approbation of the breeders in America. The majority were psychologically and temperamentally sound. I actually felt that the Dangerous Dogs Act was flawed from the outset and despite tinkering it is still unfit for purpose. .Genetics is just one part of the equation. Having said that, I believe what they have done with the American XL Bully is to create a dog that is so dangerous that the general public should never be allowed to breed or own one. For once in my life I believe that something drastic must be done to curb this ultra-aggressive and hyper-reactive breed. Put a ban on the breeding and selling of these dogs in all parts of the UK and start educating the general public on how to raise a well-rounded and safe dog when they first get a puppy. Most people especially during lockdown on a whim without any research or knowledge on how dogs think or learn. Most dogs are not socialised or trained enough during that first week period. I watched a Netflix series called Unnatural Selection In the series, a dog breeder, a totally untrained layman working as an oil field technician was experimenting with genetics and altering the DNA of dogs. His own dogs were mainly American XL Bully-type dogs and he had a lot of them. He was buying DNA manipulation kits so as to speed up the dramatic changes that people wanted in this breed of dog. He artificially inseminated and extracted semen from his dogs he was experimenting to make rapid genetic changes in his animals. The man in question lives in Mississippi USA. Perhaps he or someone else succeeded? If so that could explain the sudden dramatic climb in fatal attacks from these XL Bully Breeds. It has now been reported that the XL American Bully dogs in the UK are times more likely to kill than any other dog breed, according to a new analysis of public data. What I am concerned about is whatever happened created a Frankenstein monster of a dog. Legislation is urgently required before many more children, adults, and dogs are killed. The problem with the XL Bullies their aggression is not related to socialisation, though that can exacerbate the problem. The real concern is their powerful genetic disposition for predatory and reactive aggression. These dogs were bred to fight and attack. They are the type of dogs that were used in Bull and Bear Baiting, and dog fighting, They also hark back to the famous dogs of war used by the Romans to create their empire and of course to invade Britain. Has anyone heard anything from the Government about this problem? I have been saying this on TV and Radio for the last 6 months. Neither DEFRA nor the Government has uttered a word about the fact that In the last 3 years, the vast majority of deaths have been caused by one specific breed. I also have a petition regarding Dog Theft it has , signatures The Government promised to change the law nearly two years ago. Has it been done has the severity of the sentencing changed and have they changed the charge from stolen property like a laptop or mobile to abducting a family pet and sentient animal with all that entails? You can guess the answer. See below for a link to the petition. I think this article is important enough to share on all media platforms. Some of the media platforms are shown below. Dog domestic dog The American Bully is a modern breed of dog that was developed as a companion dog , and originally standardized and recognized as a breed in by the American Bully Kennel Club ABKC. Their published breed standard describes the dog as giving the "impression of great strength for its size". Temperament in adult dogs is very much dependent on training, and the breed can be very demanding and needs to be properly trained. Due to the size and strength of the American Bully, legal controls on the ownership of the breed exist in several countries. History The American Bully, as it is now known, began development in the s with the majority of the final behavioral and aesthetic product being completed in the s. Eventually, enough breeders agreed that these dogs were disparate enough from American Pit Bull Terriers that it warranted them admitting that they were a different breed altogether. According to the ABKC, the initial desire for this breed was to produce a dog with a lower prey drive and more of the "bully" traits and characteristics than the American Staffordshire Terrier. Mass and heavy bone was prioritized to ensure such a look, and due to this many of the dogs shown today display the wide front for which they were originally bred. All these varieties are expected to follow the same standard with minor alterations. Standard Standard type in side view The standard American Bully type is a medium-sized dog with a compact bulky muscular body, heavy bone structure and blocky head. Male dogs must be 17 to 20 in 43 to 51 cm , while females must be 16 to 19 in 41 to 48 cm. Pocket A pocket American Bully The "pocket" type is a smaller variant, with full-grown males under 17 inches 43 cm , but no less than 14 inches 36 cm , at the withers and females under 16 inches 41 cm , but no less than 13 inches 33 cm , at the withers. XL Champion XL American Bully Stud An XL type is determined by its adult height, with males between 21 inches 53 cm and 23 inches 58 cm at the withers and females between 19 inches 48 cm and 22 inches 56 cm at the withers. Classic The classic is a lighter-framed dog than the standard, but falls within the same height range. Smaller dogs are sometimes called "Micro", and larger ones are called "XXL", but neither are recognized by the kennel clubs as legitimate varieties. Temperament The American Bully is a highly adaptable and trainable breed. Human aggression is discouraged in breed standards; however, a level of dog aggression is characteristic of the breed. Cherry eye , ectropion , and entropion are often seen affecting the eyes, while brachycephalic respiratory syndrome can be seen in the shorter muzzled dogs. He stated that the dogs' bite caused crushing and shredding injuries which shred skin and break bones, carrying particular risk of irreparable nerve damage. The dog, an American Bully, had been bought as a family pet one week previously. The dog, one of a pair, weighed lb 89 kg. If the dog has not been trained to stop it won't stop. The dog weighed more than the victim and standing up it would have been at face height on its hind legs. After a forensic veterinary report, the American XL Bully, believed to have been responsible for Johnston's death, was euthanised following the attack. In response, Detective Chief Inspector John Davies said: "Greater Manchester Police officers searched two houses and seized 15 dogs six adults and nine puppies believed to be the same breed as that which attacked Jonathan. It was reported that there were concerns within Defra , the government department responsible for administering the Dangerous Dogs Act, over the practicality of a ban. The American Bully was the second most commonly seized breed, with 73 dogs seized. Prior to , no seizures of American Bullies were reported. In the first five months of the force had seized 44 American bullies, almost three times the next most common breed, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, of which 16 had been seized. It must be muzzled and on a lead no longer than 2 metres 6 ft 7 in when in public amongst other requirements. They are very gentle and loving toward other animals and especially people. Good tempered, well mannered, extremely loyal and an affectionate family member. Mostly obedient, this dog wants nothing more than to please its human. The XL American Bully is well known for having a high tolerance for kids and an overwhelming eagerness to please its love ones. Confident, yet not aggressive, XL Bully possesses a great temperament. Physically, they have an impressive strapping build, which is both muscular and defined. They display great strength, durability, and agility. Bully Temperament It is safe to say that although this breed possesses an impressive stature, with defined muscles and a strong build, they are very, very sweet hearted and have a soft temperament. Many people believe the American Bully is simply a type of pit-bull this is false and is a common misconception towards this breed. Overall, the XL American Bully is a well-rounded, reliable, trustworthy and ideal family member mans best-friend. The XL American Bully needs an owner who is firm with a lot of patience, that's very confident, and very consistent. Always let them know whats expected of them; give rules and guidelines to follow to what they are and are not allowed to do. Establish yourself as the pack leader as dogs are naturally instinctively inclined to follow in that order. A Pit bull and American Bully are two distinct dog breeds. They also love attention, and are definitely massive affection givers, so you can expect tons and tons of licks, kisses and head tilts. They are known for being an extremely adaptable breed who are both playful and caring, this makes them an exceptional addition to families with children. The American Bully is known to be the loyalist of the many dog breeds, adding to the many reasons for why they make the perfect family pet. They range from 24 to 27 inches in height and weigh anywhere from pounds to pounds, both male and female. They can pack on size and weight very fast, so I recommend to not overfeed them and to let them grow gradually so that their bones fuse together properly. This dog was first bred in the s. The American Kennel Club does not recognize this dog breed. Their temperament has been selectively bred to produce a dog with a soft and mellow personality. They are kind, loving and gentle towards family members and do well in homes with or without kids. The appearance of this pooch closely resembles a Pitbull dog. The Bully requires 30 to 60 minutes of exercise each day. Your puppy comes with all the paperwork, health records, and a small bag of food. Very attentive and particular with their dogs and the puppies that they place. Collin Shafer One of the best breeders in town! Fantastic experience and breeder! The puppies are hand raised, tendered and cared for since birth. Socialized in a family environment and very well loved. The owners of the kennel are very responsive and knowledgeable. Bullies of this caliber are very desirable and the owners take pride in their life's work. Merle is a genetic pattern that can be in a dog's coat. In addition to altering base coat color, merle also modifies eye color and coloring on the nose and paw pads. The merle gene occasionally changes dark eyes to blue, or part of the eye to be colored blue. Responsible breeders who want to produce merle puppies mate a merle with a non-merle dog; and none will have the vision or hearing defects associated with double merle dogs. Some of our dogs are available world-wide, and some are only available within the USA or only available outside of the USA. This can change at any time, so please check back at any time to see the current status. A tri carrier dog is a dog that doesn't show tan points, but can produce dogs that do. A great example of a tri-carrier dog is Triple Champion King Louii. King Louii is a lilac colored dog, and does not show any tri colors at all. But if King Louii is bred to a female that is tri, they can produce full tri-colored puppies. Tri Carrier means a dog has a single copy of the Tan Point trait heterozygous. We are looking for genetic defects within our dogs that could be passed down to their puppies. Within our program, you will see 2 different results. CRD4 is an eye condition that originated with long-haired Dachshunds, and is very common within our breed. It is estimated that over half of our breed has at least 1 trait. We wrote up an article on it, so please click below to learn more! COIs also track how related dogs are further back in the pedigree. With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. Pictures don't do this sweet girl justice. French Bulldogs for Sale in Cincinnati. This means there are no guarantees of how Golden Retriever Husky puppy will look. Some dogs look more like their Retriever parents, while others look more like Husky puppies. They all have one thing in common: pet hair, lots of hair, and a nice fuzz that requires frequent brushing. They shed less than a purebred Husky but have reasonable grooming needs despite their thick hair. A cordless vacuum cleaner is essential for cleaning floors and clothes. A Golden Retriever Husky puppy can grow big or small because he is a mix of two large breeds. Genetics is a complex science that involves many more variables. It's hard to predict what a Golden Retriever Husky puppy will look like. It's possible to end up with the breeder's original vision of a golden retriever with bright blue eyes. Or, you can have a Husky-like dog with long hair and ears. Because they can inherit different physical traits from their parents, even mixed Golden Retriever and Husky puppy mixes will look different. Some look like Husky puppies with their long ears and multicolored coat. Others look more like puppy-friendly chew toys with large, brightly colored eyes. You will find your Golden Retriever Husky puppy adorable and fluffy. They will have long, strong legs and large eyes. Although he looks more like a Golden Retriever or a Husky, the traits are all there. It's just a question of which genes are dominant and which are recessive. A Husky and a Golden Retriever make a strong, outward-oriented dog. They are great for running on tough terrain, hiking, skiing, and other canine activities. Many people like the surprise factor. It can be exciting not knowing what your Goberian pup will look like when he's older. A Golden Retriever Husky puppy is a dangerously adorable thing. Let's face it! This is why this mix has caught the attention of dog breeders and potential buyers. The combination of Husky and Golden Retriever is often a perfect blend of the two breeds. It has the drive and desire for adventure of the Husky mixed with its friendliness and gentleness. He is often compared to a Golden Retriever who drank an energy drink. However, this comparison is only hypothetical. They love cuddles and can be gentle while playing. Although they can sometimes be protective of their family members, they are generally good with new people and strangers. Husky and Retrievercross dogs get their defensive side from their Husky parents, but it's often contained and only shows up when they feel threatened. The Goberian Golden Retriever Siberian Husky Mix can be rebellious at times and take things in their own direction, just like purebred Huskies and other Husky mixes. The stubbornness of the Goberian is a characteristic that comes with the territory. Although they can be adorable, they should be supervised by an owner to ensure they don't hurt themselves. Since the Husky and Golden Retriever can roam freely, they may need some dog training or house training before they can be trusted off-leash. These books are perfect for dog training! The Goberian dog is the perfect dog for an adventurous and loving family, able to keep up with their dog's energy level and open to new experiences. Child Compatibility The Golden Husky-Golden Husky mix has proven to be an excellent choice for families with children. He is known to have the gentle and loving manners of the Goldens. It's a great way to get your kids away from the TV and other electronics. It also allows you to teach them early that all dogs, regardless of design, should be walked every day. You never know; they might believe you if you tell them their furry friend is a Golden Retriever mixed breed wolf. Many of these mixes are more wolf-like. However, this does not necessarily apply to everyone. Some grow up looking like fluffy teddy bears. Siberian Husky and Golden Retriever mixed breed dogs should not be left alone with children under three. Accidents can happen even with the most affectionate mixed-breed dogs. Because they are a cross between two dog breeds, the Goberian can have any mix of characteristics from the parent breeds. They may take on more traits of one parent or have a combination of both. Goberians are a relatively new designer dog breed that tends to be friendly, affectionate, and gentle. Because they are a mixed dog breed, they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club. They tend to have a gentle and loyal nature. Goberians tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can get along with other pets in the house, but may need to be introduced and socialized for it if they inherit the Siberian Husky prey drive. The Goberian is a moderately adaptable dog breed. Because of their energy, they are best suited for larger homes with a securely fenced-in yard where they can run. They can adapt to apartment living if they get enough exercise and attention. They tend to prefer cooler climates, but they do well in just about any climate. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Despite the occasional independent streak, a Goberian thrives on affection and loves to be near their families. Plus, they tend to be easily bored, so they do not tend to do well with long periods of alone time. As with any hybrid dog breed, a Goberian can inherit all, a mix, or none of the potential health problems common to the parent breeds. Talking to the breeder about the genetic history of both of the parents and asking to see any health clearances can help ease potential concerns you may have. In general, the Goberian is intelligent and learns quickly, but the overall trainability of them will vary. They can be moderately easy to train or more difficult depending on the mix of characteristics from the two parent breeds. If the Goberian puppy takes more after their Golden Retriever parent, they will be easier to train and eager to please you. However, if they take after their Siberian Husky parent, they will be more difficult to train as they will be more stubborn and independent. Regardless, you will want to plan for puppy training classes, especially if you are a first-time dog owner. Plus, the classes offer opportunities for early socialization, which is also important. Because the Goberian is a mixed dog breed, their coat can come in a variety of coat colors. Their coat tends to be long and dense and may be straight or slightly wavy. They can range from light to moderate shedding year-round and may have two heavier shedding sessions as the seasons change. Bathing is an occasional requirement as needed and many Goberians only need a bath every months. Trimming nails on a monthly basis is usually sufficient. You want to make sure their ears are not trapping moisture, dirt, or debris that could lead to an ear infection. Thankfully, you can help prevent dental disease in your dog by implementing a good dental care plan. You can also supplement your efforts with vet-approved dental hygiene treats and chews, and even a specially-formulated dental care diet. The Goberian is a high-energy dog breed. They require a lot of daily exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. In addition to daily walks and some playtime, your Goberian is likely to enjoy running with you, going on a hike , and maybe even swimming. A fully-grown Goberian usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Goberian generally lives years. Goberian Puppies for Sale Thanks for visiting our Goberian page! Currently, we do not have any Goberian puppies available, but we can alert you when new Goberian puppies are available! Just enter your email address and click submit! Please enter a valid email address! Red Golden Retriever And Husky Mix Temperament Predicting the temperament of any mixed-breed dog is tricky, and there is no certain way to know if your Goberian dog will take more after his Husky parent or vice versa. To get a better sense of your new Golden Retriever Husky mix, try to meet both of his parents and get a sense of their temperaments. Friendly The Husky and Golden Retriever mix is going to be a very friendly and people-oriented pooch. Like both of its parenting breeds, the Goberian likes to spend time and interact with people and is especially gentle towards children. Goberians form strong bonds with their humans and will love to spend time and cuddle with all family members. However, they tend to pick a special person, someone whom they favor more than anyone else and that person will have a special place in their hearts. Highly Energetic The Husky Golden Retriever mix is a very energetic and active dog that requires prolonged exercise sessions to stay happy and well-behaved. If not properly exercised, Goberians can easily get bored and will resort to destructive chewing, howling, barking, and full-blown mayhem! Goberians need up to 90 minutes of exercise every day, and enjoy swimming, running, hiking, or any other activity that gets the heart rate going. Independent Depending on how much it takes after its Husky parent, your crossbreed can be very independent and stubborn at times. Intelligent Both Huskies and Golden Retrievers are smart breeds, so your mix will be too. The greatest thing with owning an intelligent dog is that they are easy to train when properly motivated. Start training your puppy as soon as you bring it home and only use positive reinforcement. Using treats , play, toys, or cuddles as rewards can motivate your pooch to stay focused on training even if he is stubborn and this will make the whole process a lot easier for you. Goberians that take more after their Husky parent have a stronger wanderlust potential so it is wise to keep your pooch on a leash and have a fully fenced yard. Otherwise, be prepared to run miles to catch and bring your dog back home from exploratory adventures. While Goberians are generally healthy, they are prone to certain diseases that affect Huskies and Golden Retrievers. The most common problems seen it this mix are: Hip dysplasia.

To help them do this by sleeping during the night, make sure to establish a routine with the puppies so they learn when to sleep when to play, and when they can go potty. Tips to help your Labrador puppy sleep: Establish a nightly routine if you can establish a routine for the whole day as it will help the puppy adjust faster Keep the sleeping area dim and quiet Don't get the puppy energetic before bedtime avoid the temptation for a late evening playtime session Prepare for interruptions barking , howling , or potty breaks during the first few weeks of their life 10 Weeks Old At about 10 weeks old, the puppy is likely still adjusting to its new home and only just starting to get used to the nightly routine. They will sleep for about 16 to 20 hours each day. At this stage of their life, your puppy should start getting better control of its bowels, meaning you shouldn't have to take it out during the night as often as you have in the past few weeks. They may even be able to sleep through the night without a bathroom break. During this period, make sure to mainly focus on helping your puppy learn its nighttime schedule, as it is still difficult for it to learn at this stage. Trying to teach too many things to the pup at once can overwhelm it and rove to be unsuccessful. Your puppy should be getting around 11 to 15 hours of sleep every day. It is at this age that you are going to have to worry about the dog's temperament. However, if a good schedule was established for the puppy with time for naps throughout the day, you shouldn't have to worry about a rowdy or energetic pup during the night, as it knows when bedtime is. At about 6 months old your Labrador puppy will be sleeping for about 12 to 14 hours every day. By this stage in your Labrador puppy's life, it should no longer be barking, howling, or need to go to the bathroom during the night as you have established a routine and it has had plenty of time to learn it. With Labradors, make sure to give them plenty of exercise during the day so that they use up the stores of energy they have, or they can develop health problems and an irregular sleep schedule. Giving your Lab something to chew on before it goes to bed will also help it use up its excess energy and sleep better through the night. Now that it is an adult, it requires less sleep and will usually sleep for around 8 to 13 hours a day. This is a positive for Lab owners as they are monophasic sleepers , which means that they only have one sleep period. This means that if you have established a good routine for your Lab, you will be on the same sleep schedule. This is nice as most dogs are polyphasic sleepers , separating their periods of sleep into two or three chunks throughout the day. So, your Lab will still take naps during the day, but they will likely occur while you are at work or are out and about during the day. Example Routine For Labrador Puppies The following is likely what your Labrador's schedule will look like, including its naps. Morning Schedule: Wake up and take the puppy outside to relieve itself Feed it breakfast Give it another potty break it is typically that puppies need to relieve themselves after eating Socializing, playing with your puppy, or taking on a walk Ideally for 30 to 60 minutes Nap Time Expect about 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on age Potty Break. Do Labradors Sleep Through the Night? There may be a lot of causes, though, if your dog sleeps more than 15 hours each day. Age, breed, amount of activity, and environmental circumstances are just a few of the multiple variables that affect how much sleep your dog needs. If your dog appears to be sleeping more than usual, analyze any environmental changes. Minor lifestyle adjustments for your dog might have a major impact on how they sleep. You might be curious as to why your Lab sleeps so much. If you have a smaller dog, it could seem like they are sleeping more or more than you are used to. The following are some reasons for changes in the sleeping pattern of your Labrador. Diet If your pooch has begun sleeping more since changing its food, nutritional variations could be the problem. Large dogs like Labradors typically sleep for 12 to 14 hours each day source. Your Labrador will probably sleep even longer if it is a puppy or an older dog. Weather It can be the case that the hot temperature has been making you feel exhausted if the weather has gotten hotter where you are. In this situation, providing it with access to shaded areas, water, and a cool room throughout the day would be beneficial. It would also be beneficial to walk it in the early morning or late evening when it is cooler. Aside from that, it would be beneficial to keep it out of the sun as much as possible to prevent heatstroke. Illness It may have been sleeping more recently due to a disease. That would be more likely if it had more recently started to sleep and had been displaying other symptoms of illness, such as weariness while up. It would be better to take it to the vet in this situation. Boredom Its tendency to sleep more might be because of boredom and lack of stimulation. A lot of daily activity is suggested for the breed of Labradors. It is often advised that they exercise for an hour each day. Click here to learn more. Activity Level Does your dog like frequent strolls across the park? Or does your dog prefer to sit on the couch? The American Kennel Club AKC estimates that a puppy that is highly active when awake may require up to 18 to 20 hours of sleep each day. Less active dogs, on the other hand, often sleep for just around 14 hours daily. No matter how active your dog is, the best strategy is to spread their exercise throughout the day. Dogs often want to snooze frequently to rejuvenate. Aging Puppies and senior dogs typically sleep even more. Puppies sleep more because they are quickly growing and because sleep is when their muscles are rebuilt. Older dogs sleep more because getting around takes more energy and they become weary more quickly. Click here to find out. Since they are young, being separated from their mother may make them feel lonely and afraid. Throughout the night, they could also need to feed or go outside a few times. Before assuming that the dog can sleep through the night, you will need to allow them some time to acclimate. They will eventually quit complaining and keeping you up at night so they can sleep through the night like everyone else. But you might be wondering when this is going to happen for those new pet owners who are sick of waking up in the middle of the night. When a Labrador Retriever reaches the age of around four months, pet owners may anticipate that they will begin to sleep through the night. They have reached an age where they can successfully sleep through the night and are less likely to need to get up in the middle of the night to obtain attention or for any other reason. The simpler it is to encourage the puppy to accomplish this milestone, the more of a foundation you provide for them early on. Each puppy may react differently to being in your house, and some may take a little longer to sleep through the night. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Puppy Sleep Schedule by Age By Anastasia Efimenko on Feb 3, To keep your puppy healthy and obedient, you need to establish a daily routine, including feeding, walking, playing, and sleeping schedules. This article will discuss what a puppy sleep schedule should be and how much puppies sleep at different ages. Many people don't know how long puppies should sleep during the day. And lack of sleep negatively affects the nervous system, causing various behavioral problems. How long should puppies sleep? According to the AKC , puppies at weeks should get hours of sleep per night! Most puppies are weaned from their mother and brought to a new home at this age. This schedule persists until about 20 weeks of age. As the dogs get older, sleep time is reduced to hours. Thus, little puppies are awake for only hours. This time is divided into different short chunks of time during which the puppy has time to play, eat, and do other things. Why do puppies sleep so much? Some new dog owners mistakenly believe that their puppy sleeps too much. They purposely wake the pet during the day so that it "sleeps better at night. And I understand the desire to spend more time with your cute little puppy. But keep yourself in check. Puppies sleep so much for a reason. During puppyhood, their bodies develop at a breakneck pace. It takes a lot of energy for the bones, muscles, and brain and therefore the nervous system to develop properly. The consequences of sleep deprivation in dogs can be stress, anxiety, aggression, and other behavioral disorders. Just imagine, a dog develops in a year like a human develops in 18 years! How to set a sleep schedule for a puppy? First, we'll determine how much your puppy sleeps at night and then distribute the remaining sleep time throughout the day. Typically, dogs between weeks can sleep hours, but they still need to take a potty break at night. So if your dog wakes up at night, it means it needs to pee. Do not play or pay attention to it during this time. But there is one problem with sleeping at night. Puppies are often difficult to tuck, and they also don't want to sleep alone. So your job is to: learn to put your fluffy to bed at the same time; provide all the conditions for a peaceful sleep. To do this, you need to arrange a quiet place to sleep with a comfortable bed; we also recommend using a crate. In a crate, the puppy will be safe and also more peaceful. If you don't already know about crate training at night , then check out this helpful tool; make sure your pup uses up its energy during the day by exercising and playing. What time should the puppy go to bed? Going to bed one hour after meals and an evening potty walk is advisable. Specific times don't matter; you have to build a schedule to suit you. Although tiny puppies can't sleep as long as humans, after 16 weeks, you can train your puppy to go to bed and get up with you. Daytime sleep schedule Dogs wake up as the sun rises. So if you want to push back the wake-up time, then put the dog bed in a darker place. Usually, you don't need to take any action to get your puppy to sleep during the day. They will do it anyway. What your job is: don't disturb your pet, don't wake it up if there are kids in the house, they need to learn this too ; do not arrange training and active games before bedtime, as this makes puppies overexcited and unable to fall asleep. Although the daytime sleep schedule will be flexible, it's advisable to make sure that your puppy has several two-hour naps. Their number depends on age, as does the total amount of sleep in a hour period: puppies at 8 weeks need about 5 two-hour naps; after 12 weeks, there may be four; and after 16 weeks, three. According to all the advice in this article, let's make a rough daily schedule for a week old puppy: To summarize Puppies need hours of sleep a day for normal mental and physical development. Therefore, you should not interrupt their sleep. The second main point is to accustom the puppy to fall asleep at the same time. To do this, try crate training. Puppies up to 16 weeks can sleep hours a night, but with potty breaks. After 16 weeks, your pet probably won't bother you at night. Ensure your furbaby has a comfortable, quiet place to sleep and stick to its routine. Then everyone in the house will sleep peacefully! About the Author: Anastasia is the author of trainingyourpuppy. Your Labrador puppy might be a dynamo when they are awake and then fall into a deep sleep in the middle of the action, like a magic trick. REM and Your Puppy Much like human babies, your Labrador puppy will spend between hours sleeping, and the rest causing mischief and delightful mayhem. Like people, your pup experiences REM or Rapid Eye Movement, which is essential for brain processes such as learning and processing daily experiences. Unlike humans, your labrador pup has a polyphasic sleep pattern meaning that they sleep multiple times in a 24hr cycle. Puppies that have more activity before their nighttime sleep tend to move from a drowsy state to REM quicker. Experts in this field believe that dogs use REM to consolidate their memories and need REM to retain their learned skills. This learning is also essential when teaching your labrador puppy routines such as sleeping through the night. How Long Do Labrador Puppies Sleep at Night Your Labrador puppy will initially only sleep a maximum of three hours, as their tiny bladders are not fully developed yet. Expect to be woken once or twice in the early hours for your puppy to use the bathroom. It may be an idea to set your clock for two to three-hour intervals so that you can allow your puppy to go to the bathroom without getting into the habit of walking you for bathroom needs. Your Labrador puppy should be sleeping through the night or roughly hours by the time they reach the age of 4 months. It is essential to teach your Labrador puppy to learn your sleeping routines and sleep when you do at night. However, you should be in no hurry because your puppy needs time to learn how to match their sleeping patterns to your own. Establish a routine where you put your pup to sleep at the same time and place. Some owners prefer to train their Labrador puppies to sleep in a crate when they are eight weeks. Although it makes logical sense, some may see this as a bit extreme. Labrador puppies thrive on human contact and need contact to transition from their separation from siblings and their mother. It would be best if you kept the puppy nearby in your room unless you aim to let them share your bed as adults. This way, you can be attentive to their needs and let them out to do their business. Preparing Your Labrador Puppy for a Sleep Schedule Daytime Sleep Puppies also need to sleep during the day and often drop off mid-stride after energetic play. Once they wake, they are refreshed and ready to cause mischief once more. These day naps can last anywhere from thirty minutes to a couple of hours. Daytime sleep is as essential as nighttime rest, and you should try not to disturb or move them unless it is to make them more comfortable. Keep them entertained with playtime and attention before you intend to sleep yourself. They need to learn that nighttime is not for play but for sleep. Puppies are like babies and need to learn to understand the world around them. I am a firm believer in dogs that share my life, share my bed. Dogs in the bed may be contentious, but it seems the benefits may be reciprocal as studies show that humans sleep better with a dog in their bed. Whether a crate or a bed is your preference, you should consider these tips when readying your pup to follow a nighttime sleep schedule: Designate a sleeping area. Whether you chose a puppy bed or a crate, you should try and make the sleeping area as comfortable as possible for your puppy. You should explain to children or others in your space that the puppy should not be disturbed when they are in their sleeping area. Make the area a calm and positive space. Allow your puppy to familiarize itself with the sleeping area or bed and reward your pup with treats so that they associate the area with positive experiences. Set a waking and sleeping schedule. Puppies soon learn human waking and sleeping times, and you should stick to an established time for morning waking and nighttime sleep. Encourage day naps in the sleeping area. After play and exercise, introduce your pup to the sleeping area for daytime naps, so they associate the area with quiet time. Keep the area quiet and dim. If your puppy is in your room, turn off brighter lighting and turn down your television volume if applicable. If you choose a crate, throw a light cover over it to make a safe nest for your pup. Set a routine that nighttime is not for play and Reward your pup with treats when they go into their crate or sleeping space. Even adult labradors thrive on close physical contact with their owners and love nothing better than a cuddle. Labrador puppies crave physical contact even more so and love nothing better than being close to their human parents. However cuddly they are as pups, Labradors will grow on average to 29—36 kg 65—80 lb for males and females 25—32 kg 55—70 lb. They are a medium-large breed, and I can vouch for the fact that they take up quite a bit of space on the bed. They also love anything muddy and wet and often drag soggy treats onto the pillows for fun. And noises from the other end. However, you may opt for a dog bed nearby your sleeping space as a more spacious option while staying in close contact with your dog. Conclusion It seems strange that a Labrador puppy that sleeps on average 18 hours a day can still consistently wake you in the wee hours. Your furry Labrador pup will steal your heart and possibly a month or two of unbroken sleep at the same time. Consistency is key to giving your Labrador the time to learn and develop enough to understand the need for nighttime sleep. With the right training and patience, your pup will be sleeping the same hours as you in no time at all. Related Articles. So, where should your Lab puppy sleep? A Labrador puppy should sleep in a crate or dog bed. The easiest option is a crate as you can control his environment better, and it also helps to toilet train your puppy quicker. If you choose a dog bed, partition off an area of the house using baby gates or a playpen. As a first-time dog owner, I took the sound advice of my breeder. He told me that a crate is the easiest way to train a pup to sleep well — and for faster potty training! Although I could hear my puppy cry once in a while during her first night, after that, she was fine. This is quite normal, and your dog will soon get to love his crate — he will recognize it as his special place where no one else is allowed! Here are some helpful tips to help your Labrador settle in his crate and sleep well, especially on his first night: Make sure you buy the correct size. Use a divider to partition the crate in half. As the crate will be too large at first, you can use a divider to adjust the size as your Labrador grows. I like the Midwest Homes for Pets iCrate from Amazon as it has everything you need and comes with an all-inclusive divider and wipe-clean removable tray. You can also choose either a single or double door that is handy. Cover half of the crate with a blanket. Situate the crate close to your bedroom. A quiet area for sleeping is best, not too far away from your bedroom, so you can hear your pup if he needs to go outside during the night. Or you can choose to put it right next to your bed if space allows. If you put the crate in your bedroom, you can transition to another part of the house after a few weeks. I chose to put the crate at the end of the landing as I am a light sleeper, and I hate having my sleep disturbed! Remember, dogs have different sleep cycles from humans! Check out my recommendations for the Best Dog Crates for Labradors and Playpens , including soft crates, travel crates, and furniture styles. If your Labrador puppy is having a tough time sleeping through the night, you may wonder exactly when they might be able to master this new skill! Labrador puppies typically sleep through the night by 4 months old. At this age, they should sleep between hours. If you lay the foundations on the first night, your puppy may be able to achieve a night without waking up sooner. It can also help if you have a good routine and are an early riser. Here are some helpful tips to speed up the process of getting your pup to sleep through the night: Routine. Dogs thrive on routine, so ensure you establish a good bedtime routine. Potty breaks. Make sure you allow your pup to go potty right before bedtime. However, young puppies may need to go outside during the night while their tiny bladders develop. Interactive puzzle toys are also great for mental stimulation. Crate training. You can learn what to do instead in my article all about common Labrador behaviors. But are you wondering at what age your Labrador can sleep with you? This allows him to be fully potty trained and sleep through the night without having to go potty or cry for you. This interesting study compared human-canine sleeping with adult-child co-sleeping and evidenced that both shared similar benefits and drawbacks. Remember, dogs who are territorial or aggressive should not sleep in your bed. Some of the most common health benefits of sleeping with your Labrador include: An overall reduction in depression and anxiety. Increased feeling of security. Provide companionship and decrease loneliness. Reduced stress. Lowered blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and triglyceride levels. A decrease in hypertension. Cons of Sleeping with Your Labrador Of course, there can be negatives to allowing your Labrador to sleep with you in your bed. Labs are also heavy shedders, and you may find pet dander uncomfortable. Your dog can sometimes carry harmful germs. It may affect your relationship! If you sleep with a partner, allowing your dog to sleep in your bed can cause friction and disruption. Although you may suffer from disturbed sleep if you sleep with your dog, you are unlikely to be affected by his night-time antics if you are a deep sleeper. Indeed, this study from The Mayo Clinic looked at the sleep of 40 healthy humans and their dogs occupying the same bedroom to find out whether sleeping together was detrimental to sleep. Human sleep quality was lower if the dog slept on the bed rather than just in the room. Nonetheless, even if you allow your Labrador to sleep with you, only let him onto your bed when you say so. Your dog should not have free reign of your bed, which can hinder how he views the pecking order. But what about modern dogs? Do Labradors actually like sleeping with their owners? Most Labradors like to sleep with their owners as a sign of affection and closeness. Dogs are social animals and instinctively want to sleep with you as they like to be close to their pack, and you are the head of the pack! They also want to protect you and display their loyalty and trust. Some dogs might get too hot on your bed and may temporarily move onto the floor to cool down. Some might not want to sleep with you at all! Always have another place where your Labrador can sleep, such as a bed or crate nearby where he can get warm and cozy. Can a Labrador Puppy Sleep Outside? Labrador puppies grow very quickly, which leaves some pet owners wondering when would be the right time to transition their pooch to an outdoor sleeping area. But can a Labrador puppy sleep outside in the first instance? Labrador puppies can sleep outside, but not until they are between months of age. They also need to be socialized, trained, and spend time bonding with their family. The health risks around this become more precarious in extremely hot or cold temperatures. The same goes for the rarer long-haired Lab. Your Labrador is more at risk of diseases and parasites. Until your pup has received his vaccinations to keep him healthy, he is more vulnerable to illnesses and parasites. Immunizations are typically not completed until 16 weeks, so training him to sleep outside sooner than this may compromise his health. Your Lab needs to be socialized and trained. All puppies must be socialized, obedience trained, and allowed to bond with their family. Without proper socialization, you risk your Lab becoming fearful, reactive , nervous, or even aggressive. To ensure that your Labrador puppy is healthy and safe when sleeping outside, there are a few things you should always make sure he has. These items include: A doghouse. This provides your puppy with a safe space to feel safe and snuggle down. I would definitely have this Petmate Dog House from Amazon on my wish list! A bit pricey, though! Water bowl. Make sure your Lab has his favorite water bowl filled to the brink every night. Favorite toys. To make your puppy feel comfortable and relaxed, put his favorite toys wherever he sleeps outside. When all is said and done once your dog has matured, it is a matter of personal choice. Here are the key takeaways from the article: You may choose to let your new puppy sleep at your side. When he has grown, you can let him sleep on your bed. He needs to be fully house-trained and at least six months old. The benefits of sleeping with your Lab are security, bonding, and mental health. Negatives include disturbed sleep and an increase in your allergy symptoms. Most Labradors like sleeping with their owners. You can transition your dog to sleep outside between months of age. They have what is called polyphasic sleep, where they have periods of wake and sleep that occur during both the day and the night. And help you to understand the changes that occur in different stages of their lives, including when they are unwell. How Long Do Dogs Sleep? Dogs have a sleep pattern known as polyphasic. This means that they have multiple periods of sleep scattered throughout the day and night. A feature that they share with many other mammals. Dogs have better night vision than we do. So their ancestors could hunt both by day and by night, if necessary. In fact, hunting at night may have given them some advantages. It is easier to creep up on your victim under the cover of darkness. Dog Sleep Patterns Sleeping all night had no advantage for dogs, so dogs did not evolve a natural tendency to sleep for a single long stretch of time like we do. Instead, they acquired the useful ability to get as much sleep as possible, often in short stretches, whenever there is nothing much going on. You may have noticed that your dog wakes up instantly and is ready for action right away. And living with humans means that most dogs do learn to sleep the night away without disturbing their human family. Though they may wake and move around briefly during this period of time. If your dog is not sleeping through the night and disturbing your sleep, consider whether he is getting enough daytime activity and stimulation. Dogs have retained their ability to sleep whenever life gets dull. Studies of guard dogs have shown that dogs are not disadvantaged by being woken up frequently or working in changing shifts. They simply sleep when they get the chance. But how many hours sleep does a dog need during each 24 hour period? Dogs naturally sleep for longer periods of time each day than people do. But just like humans, sleep needs vary among individual dogs. Sleep needs also vary among different dog breeds. Adult Labradors will sleep for well over half of every 24 hours, and puppies under four months old may sleep as much as 20 hours a day. The reason for all this sleeping may have to do with a special type of sleep called rapid eye movement, or REM, sleep during which dreaming takes place. Do Dogs Dream? Dogs certainly appear to dream in the same way that we do. And their brains behave in a similar way to ours during the sleep cycle. REM sleep is just one phase of the sleep cycle that both dogs and humans experience. A study published in showed that REM or dreaming sleep decreases as dogs get older. So it looks as though puppies dream more than adult dogs. Sometimes when fast asleep, your dog will make twitching and running movements with his paws, and some dogs will give little yips and barks. This is a normal part of deep REM or dreaming sleep. Studies have also shown that if the part of the brain that de-activates movement during sleep is removed from a dog, the sleeping dog will actually carry out the behaviors that he is dreaming about. Let Sleeping Dogs Lie! We know that in humans, REM sleep is important. Being deprived of REM sleep can cause unpleasant effects, and there is no reason to think that dogs are any different. It is important to allow your dog to sleep deeply when he wants to and to not interrupt his sleep when he starts dreaming. Some veterinary specialists speculate that dogs sleep more than humans because their REM sleep is often interrupted due to their ability to wake easily and quickly and be ready for action. Because of that wakefulness, dogs need more periods of sleep in which to get an adequate amount of REM sleep. If you are worried that your dog may be ill because he is sleeping so much, ask yourself what has changed. Is he sleeping a lot more than he was just last week? Or has he always slept this much? Is he bright and bouncy when he is awake? Does he have a good appetite? Or does he seem lethargic or uninterested in food? Excessive sleeping in a dog that is eating well and full of energy when awake is unlikely to have any significance. And some elderly dogs tend to sleep more than they did when they were young. Make a Special Sleeping Space Your Labrador, like all dogs, is able to awaken quickly from sleep and be ready for action, whenever an opportunity presents itself. However, constantly interrupting his sleep is not a good idea. While many confident dogs will sleep pretty much anywhere, it is important that every dog has his own sleeping space. A place where he can go and relax when he wants to. Even if your dog shares your bed at night, he should still have a bed somewhere in the house that he can call his own. It needs to be somewhere free of drafts and comfortable, preferably lined with a cozy mat or blanket. Elderly Labradors may need thicker padding to support their joints. Orthopedic dog beds can provide extra comfort. It is here, in his special space, that your dog can relax fully and sleep deeply. Dogs naturally sleep for long periods of time, and sleeping a lot is nothing to worry about in a dog that is active, enjoying his food and living life to the fullest. Just like people, dogs need deep REM sleep, and constantly interrupted sleep can be harmful. You can check out crate information here: The benefits of a dog crate.

These dogs also tend to have playful, energetic personalities and low prey drives. Well-socialized Mini Labradoodles tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Due to their smaller size, these dogs can be injured by accidental rough play or accidental falls, so any interactions between young kids and puppies should be closely supervised. Miniature Labradoodles will usually bark to alert you when someone is at the door, but generally are not prone to nuisance barking unless they have been trained into it. It may not be a bad idea to train your dog to stop barking early on. Well-socialized Mini Labradoodles may be initially wary of strangers, but tend to warm up quickly and will often be happy to make a new friend. Miniature Labradoodles are highly adaptable. Provided they get enough exercise, attention, and mental stimulation, they can adapt well to apartments as well as larger homes. The health of the parents and good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of Mini Labradoodle puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of both parents. Puppy training classes can ensure that owners of any experience level learn the latest training techniques and start building a strong bond with their puppy. Grooming requirements with a Mini Labradoodle can vary. On the Poodle side, you have a low-shedding, but high-maintenance, coat that needs daily brushing along with trimming and grooming every weeks. On the Lab side, you have a higher shedding coat that is more low-maintenance, requiring some weekly brushing or brushing a few times a week and intermittent bathing. Overall, Mini Labradoodles range from having a non- to low-shedding coat. They can have one coat type or the other, or a combination of both of them. So, you will want to be prepared for brushing a coat a few times a week and the possibility of more grooming needs. Regardless of coat type, there are some other general grooming tasks you can count on. Regular dental care for your dog will help prevent serious dental issues like gum disease and tooth decay later in life. This is especially important for dog breeds with floppy ears as they are more prone to developing ear infections. Miniature Labradoodles can be high-energy dogs. In general, they require daily walks plus some playtime and extra activity to be happy and healthy. Since they love to be around their family and can have an exuberant and outgoing personality, they will likely be up for more playtime if you are. This little dog may get tired more easily at times and could push themselves too far in their excitement. On the other hand, they may just keep going and going with no signs of slowing down. What is most important is making sure your Miniature Labradoodle gets enough exercise and mental stimulation. Fully-grown Mini Labradoodles usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Miniature Labradoodles generally live for years on average. Featured Mini Labradoodle Article. Their incredible versatility of an easily trainable and adoring temperament as well as their social nature make them a perfect family pet. These beautiful, miniature versions are also commonly referred to as Australian Labradoodles, Mini Labradoos, and Mini Labrapoodles. The Mini Labradoodle is the smaller version of the equally amazing Standard Labradoodle that is a cross between a Standard Poodle and a Labrador, both purebred dogs. The standard-sized versions were bred to be guide dogs, and this trait is dominant in Mini Labradoodles as well. This designer breed is a dog of many talents. Mini Labradoodles are highly intelligent, affectionate, and as loving as can be. They can be trained for a myriad of dog jobs, and are quite the athletes when it comes to dog sports. Appearance and Grooming With two very different parent breeds, it can be difficult to know what each puppy will look like. Some litter pups take on more characteristics of the Poodle parent and others take after the Labrador more. Their low-shedding coat may resemble that of a Poodle : long, curly, and thick, or they may have fur that resembles that of a Labrador: short, straight, and dense with color variations of black, brown, chocolate, cream, golden, silver and white. This breed has a double coat which may require daily brushing depending on the thickness. They will also need regularly scheduled professional grooming appointments every 4 to 6 weeks. The size of Mini Labradoodles can vary quite a bit as well since they are a crossbreed of different-sized dogs. They may be smaller or larger depending on who they take after more. The typical size for these cuties is 14 to 16 inches tall with a weight of 16 to 25 pounds for a full-grown Mini Labradoodle. With both parent breeds being family-friendly, happy-go-lucky breeds, it is no surprise that this puppy will have the same fun-loving nature. Family and Companionship Perfect for families with children of all ages, the Mini Labradoodle is certain to fit in anywhere. This sweet dog will need plenty of love and attention, so staying away for long periods of time is not ideal for the overall emotional health of this breed. Because of their smaller size, they can thrive in all environments, be it a city apartment or in a rural setting with lots of lands. Keep in mind that your puppy will need lots of exercise and play so make sure you have plenty of places to let them run and sniff. Exercise Taking on the energetic tendencies of both parents, the mini Labradoodles are extremely active dogs who enjoy going for walks, running, and even swimming much like the Poodle. Like the Retriever, they love to play and retrieve things. Be prepared to keep them busy and spend at least an hour of active playtime with them each day. They can be pretty active chewers and seekers of mischief, so giving them something to play with is imperative. Training and Socialization Inheriting the intelligence of the Poodle parent will not only make this dog super trainable but also a wonderful option for a service or therapy dog. Its natural intuition makes it easily adaptable to people and places. However, it is very important to begin training the moment you bring your mini Labradoodle puppy home. You should start exposing it to new places, people, and other dogs as early as possible. Early socialization is paramount in the overall wellness of this unique breed. Mini Labradoodle Reviews.

The only concern that we have is that our dog came with Kennel Cough. An unnecessary expense that our breeder, Morgan, should have taken care of before we received our puppy. We have taken him to the vet to start our puppy on antibiotics. Tibbitts I love my bulldog and his sister! J Tapia a year ago My guy is 8 and in perfect shape! Just updating this! My guy is gonna be ten in April. His father was Searg and his mother was Sweetvine. Morgan was great to work with. She was patient and thorough with all of our questions when we first got him. My recommendation to any bulldog owner is to be sure to have a vet who truly knows and loves the breed. Bulldogs are known to have more health issues than some other breeds, but they can certainly live long healthy lives, especially if they have a healthy start to their life. Morgan will be honest and open to discuss any health concerns you may have, as well as give vet recommendations or general info. I love my dog and we are forever grateful to Morgan for doing all the work she does for this amazing breed. Jasmin Portillo 2 years ago I will definitely recommend sugarplum to whoever is looking to purchase a bulldog. You can tell Morgan is a professional and takes really good care the pups while in her care. We will dependently purchase another bulldog from her in the near future. Karl Beckett 2 years ago I purchased my English bulldog in August .The entire process of purchasing her as well as picking her up at the time was incredibly simple. All the animals there seemed to be very happy, well cared for, and healthy. I reached out at the end of March asking for info about her new process and she was extremely responsive. I also told her I was looking for a certain head shape and she was super willing and responsive about the sires. I emailed twice and called twice over the span of 2 months with no response. I was not pushy or unkind, In fact I led each communication with grace acknowledging that she must be busy, and still no response. This made me think about why she might be concealing information about her female bulldogs. I began to feel very uncomfortable about this business and putting a deposit down on a breed that is known for genetic health issues without any information on one of the parents. I know Morgan reads these reviews, so perhaps she will provide an explanation about the female bulldogs she breeds on here, as I was not able to receive an answer myself. Rameen Maleki I had my puppy Rocky there twice and they have been great. Katherine Fitch Our little bully is great! She is the joy of our life. I got her back in from Morgan and her helper, I'm forgetting his name, and they were both great. I had made an appointment to come check out the puppies and they let me sit with them for a couple hours before making a decision so I didn't feel rushed and definitely made the right choice. She is about 42 pounds and looks much smaller than most other bullies. Ming did have a lot of health problems her first year but I was prepared for this since everything I read on bulldogs said this was a high probability. It was life changing for Ming Ming who suffered from pneumonia a few times in her first year. She had to go to the ER a twice and a lot of the vets didn't know how to stop this from happening until I found out about that surgery. John Strutt 2 years ago I have to say, sugarplum gets a bad rep. I bought Maya Aggie about two years ago. She is the most energetic loving bulldog I could have asked for. She has the sweetest temperament and is a wonderful addition to the family. Great around kids and other dogs. Already recommended this place to others. Jean Bricker 3. Work on your self and treat your dogs better! Henry Lachowicz 2 years ago Definitely a puppy mill. She has some farm in Missouri and you never get to see the parents. Our bully had nothing but temperament issues, and its sad. We were accidentally referred here and its the biggest mistake we ever made. Deborah Shomaker 2 years ago I purchased a blue and white male bulldog 3 weeks ago. He is doing great. He is a wonderful addition to our family. He is very healthy. Everything went smoothly from purchase to delivery. This is an unethical business that does not represent itself in a straightforward way that plays fast and loose with their dogs' wellbeing. In we were naive and wide-eyed optimists and all too desperate to find a bulldog to join our family. We didn't ask hard questions and we came to regret it. Looking back, there were so many things that should have raised red flags. She told us that she was a breeder, and yet when we arrived she shifted the story to say that she was in the process of setting up as a breeder, and converting her space. On the phone she never made it clear that the puppies she had were from out of state, we came to find out ours was from Missouri, bred by a woman whose name we found had multiple liens against her for bad business practices. If you are wondering why I'm writing this review after so many years it's because I have had mixed feelings. Winston the bulldog is a constant joy, and I regret nothing even though he needed multiple surgeries in the months after we bought him because of a congenital hernia that every vet we saw said demonstrated that the breeder had been irresponsible. Even after thousands of dollars in vet bills, I do not regret choosing Winston, but what I regret and wish I could change is ever having supported this unethical business. Cindy Short 2 years ago Have had our baby for almost a year and the most amazing EB ever. Very responsive, white glove delivery, and exactly as promised. He is a "smaller" of the breed which we love. We knew about the midwest birthing facility and even had someone in the 'biz' check them out. Would highly recommend them for sure. Especially if you want a medium to smaller EB. She is full of energy, personality, and fun! She is our first English Bulldog but definitely won't be the last as long as Morgan is the breeder. Luna has only needed her well visits to the vet and spaying. Do not hesitate to work with Morgan and Sugarplum Bulldogs to find a wonderful pup! Though I had never seen the breeding facilities myself and cannot speak on the quality of such, I can tell you that this is one extremely healthy, happy bulldog! Having been home two weeks now he has received an exceptional bill of health after a new puppy inspection with my veterinarian that I have been going to for over a decade, is fully crate trained, and getting consistently better potty training. That being said, I wanted to write this review in-depth because this is the first dog I have ever bought from a breeder and I had major apprehension doing so without visiting the facilities and whatnot first, but my experience has been very good start to end and I based on such I would highly recommend Sugarplum Bulldog thanks to the quality of the little guy who's now a part of my family. I can't speak for others' experiences, but I hope this and the attached images help to clear up some of the posts that made me initially question Sugarplum Bulldogs, as I am an actual owner of one and am speaking only on my experiences as such. Hope this helps! Michelle Dabney 2 years ago I love Sugarplum Bulldogs! Morgan has been wonderful - so knowledgeable and responsive! We are fortunate to have 2 babies from Sugarplum. We got our first four years ago, and our second just last week. Although our newer addition was a little sick when she arrived, Morgan was very responsive and took care of everything. Years ago, when we were looking for our first bulldog, I unknowingly talked to a couple of sellers who turned out to be selling on behalf of what I assume were puppy mills. They were high pressure selling and not very knowledgeable about the puppies except for the basics. Thankfully we found Sugarplum Bulldogs! We even already used the same vet. So when we brought our puppy in for his first vet check-up, they immediately asked if he is a Sugarplum because they know her dogs! When we were ready to get a 2nd one, there was no question we would contact Morgan! I know it is scary to get a pet sight unseen, but I would encourage anyone to talk to Morgan. She knows so much about her dogs and the breed — she is so helpful! And if there are any issues, my experience has been that she is very honest and will make it right. We could not be happier with our bulldogs pictured here with our rescue pet puggle , and we are so happy to work with Morgan and Sugarplum Bulldogs!!! Mirna C 2 years ago Morgan answered all my questions with kindness and professionalism every time I reached out to her. I was able to reach her via phone and email. She was very patient with all my questions as this was my first time purchasing a bulldog. She even offered to answer my questions if I didn't purchase a pet from her. Sugar Plum works with a puppy mill in Missouri where the animal welfare laws are not strict. The dogs are then transported to VA to a nice, clean farm. You don't see the dogs that are bread and what is going on behind the scenes. We bought a puppy that had a heart murmur. We brought the puppy back and were given another puppy. She had 4 surgeries to get her to be okay before her first birthday. Our sweet baby passed away two weeks ago at the young age of four. We kept in touch with the lady who adopted her brother. He died a few weeks ago from cancer. Our friends, who we mistakenly referred to Sugar Plum, have two dogs from there. One has had two CCL repairs and the other, also 4-years-old, was just diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Prognosis is not good. Bullies should not require surgery after surgery to make them okay and only live to be 4. Please, don't put yourself through the heartache we are going through. I made the mistake and purchased a puppy and he died 3 weeks after he was delivered to our home. His name was Bodhi and we loved him very much. .My family and I were devastated after loosing our puppy Bodhi. The night Bodhi died he was playing with his toys in the kitchen and during this time he was gasping for air. The doctors sedated him and put him on a ventilator. X ray showed no object blocking his air way. I am not a animal doctor but I believe my puppy was sickly from the day he was delivered to our home, not to mention Morgan owner of Sugerplum had my puppy delivered to us at 7 weeks old which is a direct violation of the breeding laws. I called Morgan the night my puppy died and told her what happen. Morgan did not care and she had no sympathy whatsoever. Way to go Morgan hope your happy. Who would ever think your puppy would die after 3 weeks of having him. .To everyone do not buy a puppy from Sugerplum find a local breeder who loves there animals and are not in it for the money. RiP Bodhi broken hearted Ray Teresa Chestnut 2 years ago Purchased a puppy less than six months ago for a friend recovering from cancer! She was at the vet at least once a week! Last night she had to be put down 5 months old! Is 5 months the life expectancy? Just long enough to fall totally in Love! Zoeh Byrd 2 years ago i have 2 wonderful puppies from sugarplum named max and molly! Mikey Miller 3 years ago Purchased a puppy from Sugar Plum a while back and he died within the first 2 weeks. We spent over 7 grand bringing him to different vets trying to keep him alive. When we contacted the breeder she tried to blame us for not taking proper care of the puppy. All of the vets that we brought him to said there was nothing more we could have done as owners to keep him alive. I was not planning on writing a review but I really do not want people to go though what my family went through. Please avoid this place. Ashley Wetherell 3 years ago This is a puppymill! I absolutely love my sweet fur baby, but I would never buy from them again nor reccomend them. Call Morgan at for specific pup identification if you are leaning towards placing an early deposit. Please check back, we update our website daily! Please see our Deposit Page and our Transportation Page for information on getting your puppy. We love the English bulldog temperament, physique and expression, I just personally like it to be about lbs. We find the smaller sizes are more buoyant and playful and, though still very heat sensitive, are better able to cope with life in general. Downsizing an AKC breed takes time. Our girls all come from long lines of lb. We not trying for 20 pounders…our goal is to have healthy, beautiful babies that consistently mature at lbs. If you see a puppy that tugs on your heartstrings please call, or go to our deposit page for more information.
