So, the Irish Wolfhound Poodle mix is going to shed just as much as its parent breeds. If it inherits a curlier coat, it will absorb the loose hairs. But, if it inherits a more straight coat like its Irish Wolfhound parent, then there will be some loose hairs here and there. Due to the sort of coat that standard Poodles have, I like to say that Irish Wolfoodles are potentially hypoallergenic. Standard Poodles come with a single coat that sheds minimally and this is why they are known as hypoallergenic dogs. It means I personally make sure each individual pup is fed every 2 hours- 24 hours a day, the first 2 weeks of its life. At feeding time, I make sure each puppy gets on a nipple so they don't have to struggle to find one. I make sure that each puppy gets an adequate amount of milk. Then, once I see that they have been well fed. I pick up one pup at a time and have the mom lick it to go potty. And then I put them in their little crib to ensure they are safe and not smooth by the mother until the next feeding 2 hours later. At three weeks, we feed the pups every 4 hours. But at this point, even though the pups eyes and ears are open. I still supervise the feeding to ensure that each pup is adequately fed and again not smothered by it's mother. I believe in giving these pups outstanding care. Even if that means that I lose a lot of sleep, and even if it ends up just saving one pups life. That one pup could be the next Labrador that I get a testimony about how it brought so much joy into one person's life! So, in the end, all the work and lack of sleep is worth it. All they care about is having fun. If you ever seen two puppies play then you already know how rough, mean and aggressive those games can look while being super adorable at the same time. One pup will chase the other one growling, one will be barking his little head off in his very non-threatening voice while the other will chase his siblings around biting him and tugging him by his ears. At their very core they still have those predatory instincts that come out to the surface. However the instincts to chase down prey, growl in the face of danger and attack their enemies is deeply ingrained in him. Just like little kids like to play games where they pretend to be adults, your little guy is doing exactly the same thing. I bet when your little guy was even younger, you would have had no problem with him biting you with his little teeth because you could barely feel it. However as he got older, those little teeth got bigger, the biting started to hurt more and outrunning your Pug puppy took a bit more effort. Puppies teach each other when to stop biting If left amongst his peers, your puppy would have outgrown his behavior as he got older at the very least he would have learned to take it easy with the aggression. His siblings and his parents would be the ones teaching him when enough is enough. The pup will either yelp out or just stop playing with the aggressive one. At first the biter might not even realize why his pal suddenly changed his mind, but when more of his siblings stop playing with him after he nips too hard he will realize that something is up. He will have to learn that if he wants to keep playing games with his buddies, he will have to play much nicer. All you have to do is show him that if he wants to continue playing with you, he has to keep his sharp teeth off you and your clothes. Otherwise he will have to play all by himself, and we all know that there is no fun in that. Puppies biting their owners while playing have been a problem ever since people kept dogs as housepets. Stop the games whenever your puppy bites you — Just simply stop everything, turn away from him and go about your business while ignoring him. As soon as he realizes that using his teeth during playtime will lose your attention, he will find other ways to keep you interested. Yelp or shout to alarm him whenever things get too rough — You know how I talked about puppies yelping when things get too rough? The only problem though is that you have to teach him those games first. Your little guy only knows how to play with dogs, so teach him games that he can play with humans. If you apply all three of the tips listed above, you will be on the right path to finally stopping your puppies biting. If everyone around him changes how they play games with him, he will have no choice but to change along with them. Watch out for aggressive behavior Sometimes puppies bite for other reasons than just playing. The suggestions above apply mostly to just play biting. Although most of the time when a puppy bites he is doing it playfully, there are exceptions to everything. Parasites Parasites are everywhere and your puppy can pick them up simply from being outside. This is why it will be important to get your puppy on a routine parasite prevention program. Your puppy has been through a progressive deworming protocol which included: Pyrantel Pamoate at 2 weeks old de-wormer Pyrantel Pamoate at 3 weeks old de-wormer Toltrazuril at 4 weeks old coccidia preventative Pyrantel Pamoate at 4 weeks old de-wormer Pyrantel Pamoate at 5 weeks old de-wormer Fenbendazole at 6 weeks old giardia preventative Toltrazuril at 7 weeks old coccidia preventative Toltrazuril at 8 weeks old coccidia preventative Pyrantel Pamoate at 5 weeks old de-wormer Even with the deworming protocol listed above, puppies easily pick up parasites from outside and you will need to continue a strict parasite preventative program at home. You will want to discuss this routine internal parasite preventative with your vet. There are several options available - most of which are a chewable "treat" you give to your dog. These de-wormers are based on weight, so your vet will likely sell you individual packages each month as your puppy grows. Once they reach their adult weight, you would be able to buy 6 month or 12 month packages. Again, there are several options which range from topicals that you put on your dog to chewable that you give your dog. These, too, will be based on the weight of your puppy and so you will likely start with buying these monthly as your puppy grows. Your vet will be able to provide the greatest advice based on your location and lifestyle. Vaccinations Below is the standard vaccination schedule for up to 8 weeks of age. If you get a dog or puppy that is older than 8 weeks, we continue the vaccination schedule, and you will receive those documents at the time of purchasing the dog. If a puppy is older than 8 weeks of age at pick up, they may have additional rounds of DHPP and additional vaccination against Leptospirosis and Rabies, depending on their age at the time of pick up.
