Short Mugs accepts rescue dogs through owner surrender and local animal shelters. The organization is entirely volunteer-operated. While the group focuses on French bulldogs, they also assist in rescuing and rehoming Boston Terriers, Pugs, and English Bulldogs, depending on the specific dog and its circumstances. A proud French Bulldog Mom watches over her puppies! To adopt a French bulldog, Short Mugs evaluates an application, visits your home, and establishes that a veterinarian is available to work with the dog and its new owner. The application process includes paying a non-refundable twenty-dollar fee to compensate for a portion of the costs acquired during a rescue and subsequent vetting. Notable for potential adopters is that the application and fee payment do not guarantee that the applicant will accept the French bulldog. Application processing takes about three weeks after the application is complete. The final step is the home visit, where the potential adopters will be notified via email if the adoption will be successful. The rescue works to care for French bulldogs who temporarily need a home and find the best match for a new family for these beautiful dogs. With an all-volunteer staff, the group is dedicated to providing a new home for dogs in need. The rescue accepts dogs from owner surrenders, community shelters, and any other situation, as needed. French Bulldogs are an amazing dog breed, but are typically lower energy than a Goldendoodle. The rescue offers a robust foster program. As soon as a French bulldog is accepted into care, it is placed in a home with a family. Initially, dogs visit the veterinarian for a complete checkup. The rescue neuters or spays the dogs and completes all vaccinations before adoption. One of the primary ways this rescue accepts French bulldogs is via owner surrender. Owners who need to surrender their dogs due to medical conditions, living situations, or upon owner death need to contact the rescue to plan for transferral of the dog. To notify the rescue of a surrender, email the group and provide all necessary contact information, including which city you live in and why you need to surrender the French bulldog. This rescue also prefers that you attach a photo of the dog in this initial email. After this first point of contact, the rescue will ask some follow-up questions. The rescue has to gather as much information as possible to ensure that the volunteers can find the best home for the dog. The rescue has a meticulous adoption process. Potential adopters must complete an application, undergo an interview, agree to a home visit and obtain landlord approval, if necessary. Finally, the rescue will facilitate meet-and-greets to ensure that the dog is the best fit for its new human. Prospective adopters pay a twenty-dollar non-refundable application fee. Adoption fees, called donations by the rescue, reimburse the group for any vetting costs and help keep the group operational. Hundreds of French bulldogs are lost, abused, and surrendered to animal shelters annually. Before allowing adoptions, No Borders Bulldog Rescue Texas has provided vetting for the French bulldogs, including vaccinations, testing, spaying or neutering, microchipping, and any other additional needed treatments. A French Bulldog with a case of hiccups at night! It rescues French Bulldogs and places them in fitting adoptive homes. All of the dogs accepted by the Bulldog Rescue Squad Texas are purebred bulldogs of any kind. Dogs often arrive from shelters or owners who are no longer suitable to care for a French bulldog. The Network holds three critical missions 1 to rescue, 2 to rehabilitate, and 3 to rehome. FBRN is entirely volunteer-operated, with more experienced members training newcomers. FBRN rescues French bulldogs from commercial breeding kennels, import brokers, shelters, and private rescue groups. The group operates in Texas but also has operations across the country and in Canada. While the most expansive rescue on our list, the quality of care and effort to properly match dogs with owners are unparalleled. Volunteers help care for the French bulldogs and provide community education to ensure that people understand specifics about the breed and how to treat the dogs once they are appropriately adopted. All of the French bulldogs are spayed or neutered before adoption. To begin the process, potential adopters will apply to become qualified adopters. Part of the application fee will include reimbursement to the rescue for all of the vettings to ensure the French bulldog is healthy before it is adopted. Familiarize yourself with their policies and procedures to ensure you meet their criteria. Breed-Specific Considerations: French Bulldogs have specific needs and characteristics. Research the breed thoroughly to understand their exercise requirements, potential health issues, grooming needs, and temperament. Ensure you are prepared to meet these needs and provide a suitable environment for the dog. We are prepared to give these pups the BEST start in life. We are experienced, family-centered, ethical breeders. Our program is based in New England — but our gorgeous puppies have been placed with families from coast to coast. We are longtime breeders of purebred dogs with over 40 years experience. We are passionate about our dogs and puppies. Our elite breeding program strives to preserve, promote, and protect the natural strength and beauty of both the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle by carefully crossing select bloodlines to produce Bernedoodles that embody the very best traits of both foundation breeds. Our Bernedoodle dogs and puppies are home-raised, never kenneled, and puppies spend the first eight weeks of their lives living intimately with our family and learning how to be good family members. All our dogs receive the highest nutritional support and are fed a premium organic raw diet. We genetically test every single breeding male and female Bernese Mountain Dogs, Poodles, and Bernedoodles prior to breeding to screen for any hereditary health problems. This means we screen for both Poodle and Bernese Mountain Dog hereditary diseases. Every single puppy receives a full veterinary wellness exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, internal parasite control, and all recommended screenings before going to a new home. We are constantly monitoring the veterinary literature, both in the US and abroad, for continuing advances in canine genetics, health, wellness, nutrition, and disease prevention. Our breeding program is exceptional in its commitment to veterinary advances, and is constantly improving. Beautiful Fun-Loving Friends and Companions. Bernedoodles are an amazing cross between the giant Bernese Mountain Dog, and the multi-talented Poodle. Bernedoodles are very people-oriented, are great with children, and like nothing better than to be where their people are and to be involved with everything that that's going on around them. They are loyal, highly affectionate dogs, and have an intuitive intelligence that makes them superb companions and very easy to train. They will play all day if that's what you want to do, but just as happily snuggle with you on the couch or lay quietly at your feet while you are working. They are truly stellar companions, at ease with people of all ages. Photo Gallery Five week old red and white micro puppy My Blog. The Scam: Stolen Photos Typically a scammer will start by stealing photos of puppies off the internet, as they never ever actually have any puppies to sell. But as a potential puppy buyer, this is an advantage. Solution 1: Staged Photos One of the easiest ways to sus out a scammer is to request more photos than what they have shown. If you were to ask any of the breeders to place the puppy on a dinner plate and send a photo, most of them would roll their eyes a bit while laughing to themselves and then head for the kitchen. And you will have just avoided being scammed. Solution 2: Video Chat Similar to requesting staged photos, a video chat is a terrific tool in nullifying scammers. Just about everyone has either zoom, google duo, facebook messenger, or whatever the apple one is called xD. And just about every breeder should be able to schedule a video meeting with you and the pup. They simply steal their pictures, post them online, and pretend to be a breeder. This is can also work to your advantage. Solution 1: Breeder verification through Google So how do you know the breeder you are working with is actually who they say they are? First, google. And all it took was a quick google search. Solution 2: Breeder verification through Facebook Another very useful tool is facebook. While they have very strict rules about posting in search of a puppy, they do allow you post questions about a specific breeder. The Scam: Payment So how does a scammer actually part you from your money? With the deposit. Deposits are common practice in the puppy world. You put down a deposit to reserve that pup. Two of the primary tools scammers use for scamming are Venmo and Cashapp. These are money apps that allow you to send money to someone else quickly and easily. Unfortunately, both of these apps are renowned for viewing these transactions as strictly between the payer and the payee, and take the position that they are just the vehicle for the transaction. If you handed it over to a scammer, they will not help you get it back. Solution 1: Pay In Person This one is particularly straightforward. Go to their home, meet the puppies, the breeders, and if you like what you see, hand them over the cash. Bean Creek Doodles is located in Michigan, and we routinely send pups clear across to California. As a breeder, it allows me to create an actual bill of sale. In it I include the name and all of the relevant information about the pup, a photo of the pup, and all of the buyers relevant information. I can then send it to my buyer, and they receive an actual bill of sale, ie a papertrail. A receipt. Something tangible that shows they paid x amount of dollars for a specific pup, and that the money was paid to us. That is the surest way I can offer my puppy families buyer protection. The drawback is that paypal takes a percentage of the sale for themselves, so it may cost a little more. They simply give you an email address, and tell you to send the money to that address. In my experience, you can certainly find scammers on all three sites, but Hoobly is the most prominent. Because the other sites charge money to list puppies. Not every puppy breeder on hoobly is a scam, but every scammer is on hoobly. And best of all, the price is soooo much better than many of the other listings! In reality, that price should be your first red flag. It is entirely possible to find puppies at a below market average price. So we priced him low to help him find his new family a little more quickly. So, good deals exist out there. BUT if you find someone selling a litter of young puppies well below what everyone else is selling them for, be suspicious. From genetic testing the parents to feeding the pups, all of those costs add up quick. So if someone is drastically underpriced, there is a reason. Ask for staged photos. Schedule a video chat or in person meeting. A breeder will be thrilled to set an appointment, a scammer will go running for the hills. Breeder Verification through google. Breeder Verification through facebook. Facebook groups are terrific tools for learning about your potential breeder, and also learning about your new breed! Join a group and start asking questions! Be leery of breeders who only use Cashapp or venmo. Pay in person if possible. Paypal invoicing is a sign your breeder cares about buyer protection. Paypal transfer to email is not. Honest to God I hope it helps at least one of you avoid being scammed. If it does, please comment below and tell everyone about your experience. The more people can learn about the scams and how they operate the more people can avoid them. Thanks for reading, This growth brings a lot of attention to these designer dogs, especially breeders. Data suggests that Goldendoodles have become one of the most popular mixed dog breeds in the United States and possibly the world. This sort of popularity drives demand. People want to buy Goldendoodles or Doodle dogs in general. In response to this demand, dog breeders are switching to Doodle breeds like the Goldendoodle or Bernedoodle. This is both good and bad. Good because more people get to enjoy the wonders and fun of owning a Doodle dog. Bad because the space is largely unregulated, so shady or scam, breeders are taking advantage of people wanting a Doodle. These shady breeders, or puppy mills, will breed dogs in an unhealthy and miserable environment to sell them at a high price. They try to scam people out of their money by making false promises about breeding dogs. This brings us to James Bernedoodles. They even had a Facebook page devoted to their business. It is reported that they were not actually selling Bernedoodle puppies. They were trying to put on a front to get money from interested buyers. It seems that they were operating using the site name jamesbernedoodles. I was unable to find any historical data on this URL. Internet archive showing that jamesbernedoodles. Likely, it was deleted after they were discovered as a fraudulent business. Result given from Facebook when clicking on James Bernedoodles page. If you are looking for Bernedoodle puppies, make sure you do your research and choose a reputable breeder. Final Thoughts Scams and puppy mills are riddled throughout the Doodle dog world. False operators, like James Bernedoodles, give me pause when it comes to finding a trustworthy breeder online. But, for every shady breeder, there are tons of good ones. Make sure you do your research and, if possible, visit the breeder in person so you can double-check they are legit! Kevin is a proud Bernedoodle owner and Doodle dog fanatic. Exercises Grooming From ancient Germany precisely around the 19th century had the now extinct mastiff breed Bullenbeisser and bulldogs brought in from England. At the time of their arrival, they served as hunting dogs for bears, deer, and other ferocious beasts, it would capture the prey with the help of its awesome teeth and detain it until the hunter arrives. And in the first boxer standard club was launched with a comprehensive document that is still in use today. Shortly after, the breed made its way into other European countries and got into the U. S in the late 19th century with the American Kennel Club taking registration of its first boxer around .During the first world war, boxers played the role of a military dog as a pack-carrier, a guard dog, and an attack dog, later they were taken home by the soldiers and got introduced into the domestic world as a show dog, best companion, and a reliable guard. One with so much life, energetic, curious, attentive, active, smart, sociable and incredible fun with children is the boxer, they are also known to be very patient and highly protective of their family members making them the love and desire of many homes. As active dogs, they need a lot of exercise to keep them mentally fit, apparently having a mind of its own, you will find your boxer entertain itself by digging the ground often, chewing, and licking the mouth to beat boredom. They are also very stubborn in character which makes them a terrible choice for first-timers with dogs, they are generally a bit difficult with adult dogs including dogs of a similar breed but friendly with puppies. They usually do not bark unless there is a genuine reason behind it but they love to growl. If you have occupied home with people around all the time or you want a canine buddy the whole time, then a boxer is just the perfect breed to get. Being a highly active dog, they dread loneliness and they can cope finely in both a house and an apartment as long as you provide it with enough room and spaces for exercises and activities. What you must have is a large yard if you are living in a house for it to dig the ground and run around as it likes. And more so, if you are given to being away from home most of the time, getting a boxer may not be the best for you and the dog, because they usually get aggressive when left alone. Boxers are known as loud snorers and they drool greatly too. Boxers are playful and very energetic dogs as such regular exercises are part of a good canine relationship, especially a breed of this sort. Your boxer should be allowed to play in a fenced area and on-leashed since it is likely to jump and leap around in excitement. This puts a boxer as a bad choice for a frail owner as they may find it a tad impossible and daunting keeping up with its excessive activity demands. Being a breed with a short and thin coat its grooming demands are quite easy and little, all it needs is a light brushing of the hair twice every week to maintain its good and gleeful looks. Bathing should be a once in a while since boxers are generally clean dogs and its nails, be trimmed once every month or as often as they grow worn on surfaces, its teeth should also be brushed daily to avoid tartar formation and other dental crises. Our Boxer puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. Recognized by both the Dog Registry of America and the American Canine Hybrid Club , this mixed breed, as with any mixed breed, will receive its traits from either one its parents, making no two Gerberian Shepsky puppies the same. Standing about 26 inches tall and weighing up to 85 pounds, this mixed breed is bound to draw attention when out for a walk. With a mixed breed, it can be hard to determine the exact look as the genetic makeup will vary, but for the most part, the head will be medium in size, with almond-shaped eyes and a lean body built for power. It's the second most popular dog breed, equipped with a domed shaped face, square-cut muzzle and extremely strong jaws. Originating in north-eastern Siberia, the breed belongs to the Spitz genetic family. Stands inches tall, with females measuring slightly less. Stands 18 to 24 inches tall, with females measuring slightly less. A Husky, for example, is known to be very friendly, calm and gentle for its owners, often leery of strangers, taking quite some time to warm up, while a German Shepherd is often considered to be more hyper, active and a lot more alert, being a lot more protective than that of a Husky. Both dogs are considered to be hardworking as this is due to their ancestry and will always want to please their owner, regardless of what it takes. Regardless of the breed mix, a puppy should be well socialized and trained at a young age to avoid troubles in the future. This mix is known to be intelligent and hardworking, showing traits from both sides of their parents. Learning commands very quickly, even with minimal training, these dogs are known to be natural pack leaders and are often considered demanding, bossy and at times, a pinch stubborn. If you avoid training, you could find yourself with a very hard to control dog in the future. Grooming Again, based on the genetics, the grooming will vary. Seeing both parents have a double, dense coat, it should be brushed at least two times per week to avoid matting and tangling, and if at all possible, a professional grooming session at least once a month. Tips to know A German Shepherd Husky is known to be a very active breed, meaning it will not be suitable for an apartment or condo-like setting. This dog tends to do best in a large, fenced-in yard where it can roam freely and stretch its legs by running from one side to the next. While a cool climate is ideal, if your dog lives in a warmer-than-average climate, then shade and water should be left out at all time and their outside time during the warmer months should be very limited. The average lifespan, combining the two breeds, can be anywhere between 10 to 15 years. Being active, these dogs can escape just about any unsecured backyard, even if you have a fence installed. Heterochromia, a unique condition found in both a Husky and German Shepherd, results in two different eye colors, and this breed has been spotted with this trait. They make great exercise partners and walk miles without tiring out. Advertising Disclosure: This content may include referral links. Please read our disclosure policy for more info. Why do you think the police force and military are using the German Shepherd so much? Sure, a Doberman can do the job just fine and there are definitely dog breeds that have stronger olfactory senses or stronger bites but they may not be willing to obey every command in every situation. They are too intelligent to outright obey everything which can sometimes be perceived as stubborn. Does that mean the German Shepherd is not smart? Absolutely not. In fact, the German Shepherd is often cited as one of the smartest dog breeds, right after their cousin the Belgian Shepherd, also known as Malinois. Their will to please outranks. How trainable is the German Shepherd Husky mix? Well, the Husky is known to be quite independent by design. So even though pairing these two very smart dog breeds makes sense at first glance, a Shepherd Husky mix might not be as easy to train as imagined. That being said, pairing a German Shepherd with a more agreeable Husky can certainly help. Genetics and temperament of the parents always play a pretty big role. This is not always the case and even a purebred may struggle with protection without proper direction and training. Always consult a professional to avoid teaching your dog negative behavior patterns barking at strangers on walks, lunging at dogs, and so on. Huskies are incredibly enduring. How could they not, they were bred to run hundreds of miles in very cold climates. But their original working purpose was quite specific and they may need to have an outlet for this desire to run. Training your dog early on will prevent behavioral issues in the future and gets your dog used to brain training. Since both breeds are relatively high energy, you need to walk your Shepsky at least twice a day for a minimum of minutes each. The German Shepherd is known to be a formidable family dog while the Husky can be quite reserved. Huskies are used to living and working in a pack and can be very sociable animals while Shepherds develop a deep bond with their owners. Although pairing these two breeds can produce great family dogs, there are other large dog breeds that are even suitable for apartment living out there that are very patient with children and also perfect for guarding property. Expect to have a very smart dog that will challenge you throughout the day. He will probably grow into a medium to large-sized dog with a weight of about 40 to 80 pounds. Both dogs are working breeds so you can expect a Shepsky to have high exercise needs. A task or daily job would keep them the happiest. Grooming Both dog breeds can have relatively similar coat types. Huskies have a thick double coat, meaning an undercoat plus guard hair. While the undercoat is soft and dense, the guard hairs are straight and somewhat smooth. Depending on the specific pairing, the coat can be a toin coss. Be ready for shedding seasons with both of these dogs. You can expect your male German Shepherd Husky mix to be in cm with a weight of lbs kg. Female German Shepherd Husky mixes range from in cm , weighing in at lbs kg. Apartment Living Can you live in an apartment with a high-energy dog like the German Shepherd Husky mix? It depends. If you provide your dog with an outlet for his exercise needs which means lots of walks, play, and training then there should be absolutely no problem. However, their tendency for high-pitched barks or howling may cause problems with your neighbors. Proper training will help and entails teaching your dog the quiet command. Would I advise you to buy a mixed breed from a breeder? Definitely not. There are far too many mixed breeds sitting in shelters and waiting to be chosen. As long as there are no health issues present in their ancestry, you could argue that mixed breeds might be healthier than purebreds from backyard breeders. Beware of backyard breeders mixing in a third breed without stating so. Make sure to check out my breeder questions before you fall victim to scammers or backyard breeders. Make sure to talk to a veterinarian or nutritionist first. Do you have a German Shepherd Husky mix? Share with us your experiences in the comments below! The resulting dog is a genetic gamble in terms of health and temperament and offers no advantage to a health-tested dog or rescuing. Disclaimer: This blog post does not substitute veterinary attention and does not intend to do so. I am not a veterinarian or pet nutritionist. If your dog shows any sign of illness, call your vet. Post navigation. Large and in charge, taking the beauty and active lifestyle of both breeds, this dog is fiercely loyal and protective. So, if you are looking to add this spirited designer breed to your family, you may be wondering how much a German Shepherd Husky mix costs. Mixes with registered parents will be more expensive. We have put together a comprehensive guide to the cost of a German Shepherd Husky mix. This includes the cost of the puppy, start-up costs, feeding, and upkeep. Read on to learn more! What factors determine the price of a German Shepherd Husky mix? To determine the cost of buying a German Shepherd Husky mix, you should consider age, breeder reputation, documentation, health record, litter size, and location. Although a cheaper dog may be tempting, you may pay more in the end if the breeder has not taken good care of the dog. Age Shepskies are ready to leave their mother and littermates at about 8 weeks old. The youngest ones will be the most expensive because this is the most desirable age. As the puppy gets older, the price may become a bit cheaper. Breeders tend to have several litters of puppies staggered over time. If they have a puppy who is a few months old from a previous litter they often lower the cost of that puppy when a new litter is born. You can also rescue older Shepskies. Adult Shepskies are usually vaccinated and cost less than a puppy. They may or may not be well-trained, depending on the previous owner. Breeder reputation You will pay more for a well-known breeder. The better the breeder, the more demand there is for their dogs. So, this will cost more. Also, if the parent dogs are well-known, their puppies will also cost more. You should always check to see what kind of reputation a breeder has. Some breeders keep their puppies in poor living conditions. Look at reviews online or ask others who have completed business with them. Documentations German Shepherd Husky mixes are a fairly new designer-breed that were first bred in the s. However, it is important to get offspring from pedigreed parents. Ideally, you want a first-generation dog with one full-blood German Shepherd parent and one Siberian Husky parent. When purchasing a Shepky, ask to see the parents and their documented pedigree to assure you are getting a first-generation German Shepherd Husky mix. Second and third generations may lose much of their designer look. They can also be less healthy because of selective breeding. Health record A dewormed and vaccinated puppy will cost more than one that is not, but this cost is worth it in the end. If you get your puppy without these medical checks, you will have to get them on your own. The vet bills will end up costing you about as much, if not more than the additional adoption cost. If you adopt Shepsky puppies from a shelter, they often go ahead and neuter them, which will be factored into the cost. Also, reputable breeders screen their parent dogs and their puppies for health defects, which ensures you have a healthier dog. These costs get transferred to the buyer, but they are worth every cent. Location Some places have a higher cost of living, and as such, the cost of a Shepsky will be higher in those places. Also, if you travel a long distance to get your dog, you may have to factor in those costs. In general, both the German Shepherd and the Husky are pretty popular breeds, so their offspring are usually readily available in most locations. You can check local breeders and online pet-finding sites to find Shepskies near you. Litter size Larger litter sizes are usually more difficult for the breeder to sell. So, if you can find a breeder who has a large litter size, they may give you a deal. You can also sometimes negotiate with a breeder to adopt two puppies for a slightly cheaper price than getting each one individually. This can help you save on the overall cost of the adoption, and it will give your puppy a companion. Coat color Shepsky puppies come in a variety of color patterns, but generally, they have a combination of two colors. These can be black, white, cream, brown, red, or blue. Most people prefer German Shepherd Huskies which have a combination of white and another color, which may drive up the cost of that particular coat color. Gender Female dogs usually cost more than males, whether you are getting a puppy or an adult. Females cost more because they are able to provide many litters of puppies throughout their lifetime. Since they can get pregnant, they will have more medical costs throughout their lives. Even the process of spaying a female is more costly and invasive, adding to the cost of the female. Males will be slightly cheaper. How much should you expect to pay for a German Shepherd Husky mix? However, prices will vary according to how popular Shepskies are in your area. Papers refer to the proof that the parents were registered as purebred dogs. This ensures you are getting what you are paying for. However, this is not an ideal place to adopt from. You would risk getting an unhealthy dog. Price of Shepsky adults Instead of buying a puppy, you can opt for adopting an adult Shepksy. Adult dogs will already be trained, easy to fit into a busy lifestyle, and cost less both initially and in the long run. You can find these at local shelters. There may be listings for them on pet rehoming sites, as well. These dogs will already be neutered and have had vaccinations. The only downside is you may not be able to verify whether they are first-generation Shepskies. The start-up costs will be the most expensive, afterwards, the ongoing costs will be more affordable.

A bunny hopping gait or loose walk. Trouble getting up from a nap Difficulty walking up or down stairs to greet you. Other common Lab joint problems include osteoarthritis from old age and not necessarily hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia, which can result in lameness of the front legs. Always consult your veterinarian if you see the symptoms of Labrador hip dysplasia. X-rays and a full exam are necessary for proper diagnosis. Dog hip dysplasia surgery for severe cases in medium-to large-sized dogs can be expensive. In most cases, rehabilitation services can also be costly and postoperative care can be long and arduous. Age may keep your dog from being a good candidate for surgery. Non-surgical treatment options often have no age restrictions. Dog hip braces, such as the Ortho Dog Hip Hound brace , support the low back and hip area for mild to moderate hip dysplasia. The purpose of the Hip Hound brace is to stabilize the hip and lower back areas by holding the head of the femur in the hip socket. This reduces grating of the bone, which allows for post-surgical healing or pain-free exercise. Braces come in all sizes so you can find one that is perfect for your pet and allows for maximum support. Is a Hip Hound Brace right for your pup? Designed for dogs who suffer from arthritis and mild to moderate hip dysplasia. Since Labs are prone to joint issues, your dog may be diagnosed with elbow dysplasia Fragmented medial coronoid process. A veterinarian we work with has used the Ortho Dog Hock Holder brace for the hind leg over the elbow joint. We recommend you give it a try! This breed already loves water so much, you may not be able to get them to stop swimming! We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. However, if you had a veterinarian watching this plump pup play in the grass, they would have a much more sobering outlook. This puppy is suffering from the early stages of Canine Hip Dysplasia. What is Canine Hip Dysplasia? This results in the separation of the joint and the resulting wear and tear on the cartilage and bones. What Dogs Get Hip Dysplasia? No one knows for sure why some dogs develop this painful joint condition. However the severity of the illness seems to be linked to both the nature genetic component and the nurture environmental and nutritional elements that the dogs experience as they grow. However, it seems to be less prevalent in puppies with parents passing rigorous hip testing through the OFA Orthopedic Foundation of Animals. This is why it is vital to only buy puppies from breeders who have tested the parents for both hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia , which is the same joint deformity in the elbow socket. For example, if puppies grow too quickly, are lacking specific nutrients or have electrolyte imbalances, they are more likely to get CHD when they get older. Again, this issue is more often seen in larger breeds since they undergo more growth and skeletal changes than smaller breeds. The main two things you want to avoid are rapid weight gain and over supplementing too much calcium into the diet. You will also need to follow the feeding schedule set out by your veterinarian and not feed your puppy too much food. All dogs have a genetic code of how big they will get as adults. Your job, to reduce their risk of hip dysplasia, is to make sure they grow at a steady growth rate over time and not shoot up too quickly by feeding them a balanced diet specifically formulated for large-breed puppies. Environmental Factors Puppies are not usually born with hip dysplasia; it develops as the dog matures. You can take your pup out for a low-impact game of fetch in a park or a swim in a pool. However, doing activities such as forced running, stairs, jumping or agility courses when joints have not fully matured is thought to increase the likelihood of hip dysplasia later in life. The easiest way to tell if you pup has CHD is to do an x-ray of their hips while they are sedated. This allows the veterinarian to see if the joint fits together as it should. However, barring an x-ray diagnosis, there are a few symptoms to look for in more advanced cases. Signs of CHD include: Sitting in a frog position with one hip splayed out. Exercise intolerance. Swaying gait where the back end moves back and forth in a pronounced fashion. Reluctance to run, jump or climb stairs. Bunny hopping , especially up stairs. Difficulty getting up. Back legs or hips are painful when touched. Hind leg lameness, which worsens with exercise. Back legs are more close together when the dog stands than the front legs. In more severe cases, you may see muscle wasting in the back legs and hindquarters. Arthritis may develop as the disease progresses. Your dog may start to show unexplained aggressive behavior as the pain increases. Again, the best way to diagnose CHD is with an x-ray. These test rank the hips as Excellent, Good and Fair. You should not buy a puppy without ensuring the parents have at least a Fair rating, and preferably a Good or Excellent hip score. Obviously, dogs exhibiting these scores should not be bred. Yet, even if both parents have great hips, this is not a guarantee that the puppy will be free from hip issues. Refrain from making your puppy your jogging or jumping partner until they are grown. Even if you do everything right, if your dog carries the genetic predisposition for CHD, you may still encounter it when your pup reaches adulthood. If your dog develops CHD, there are several ways to treat it. The best course of action should be determined with your veterinarian. You can also add in exercises such as swimming and leash walking to keep the muscles toned around the joints. Physical therapy and massages have also been known to help. Some dogs undergo total hip replacement surgery , just like humans, and have good success with this approach. There are other preventative surgeries, such as juvenile pubic symphysiodesis JPS that vets give puppies with a high likelihood of developing CHD as a preventative measure. Conclusion While CHD is certainly a frustrating diagnosis, there are many treatment options to help your dog live a long, satisfying life. If you take a proactive approach to their treatment, you can still have an energetic, happy companion that will keep you company on walks, swim with you at the beach and lay by your feet when you relax. Monty is probably at his fittest right now, and has the best stamina he's ever had, but ten out of ten 3 yr old labs would outrun him on speed and distance. We know what the limit of his ability is, and I'm loathe to push it much more. It's a bit sad sometimes as we got a dog to go out on longs walks and days out, and I read of other dogs' exploits on the forum and think, gosh, I wish we could do that with monts. OH walked part of Hadrian's Wall last year and would have loved to take him, but was never ever an option. Also, I hardly ever get him retieving toys. He has 2 group dog walks each week which I accept are going to involve some racing around with other dogs, I would never deprive him of that as he loves it. However our solo walks are mostly bimbles, I let him stop and sniff very frequently, and though i do have him check in a few times we very rarely play with toys, just because the sudden stops and turns are one of the worst possible things for his ED. On a positive note we've just had a great holiday in Cornwall with him with lots of beach time, which I know can be very bad for joints, and fortunately he's absolutely fine. Touch wood of course Click to expand.Quite a list! Fingers crossed that we won't have to worry about any of this. We currently have her playing with a couple of small adult dogs and puppies that are her size every evening. I wouldn't want to take that away from her. She had a bit of a limp after frolicking in snow. Bunny hops a bit, but so do other non affected dogs. Our vet thought it was a knee issue. Expert orthopods only diagnosed it after xrays under GA. Just trying to put the case for not jumping to conclusions one way or the other just by gait analysis. Its hard for the experts, as lay people we have scant chance of getting it right! I must admit I thought it looked like a rottie-type walk too, like Emily said, coupled with gangly, leggy uneven growth of a teenager's back end! Welcome to the forum Kiera and Co. You're right. Its so hard to not jump to conclusions. My thoughts keep going back and forth as to whether or not she has HD when watching videos of other puppies, but we won't know for sure until we get it checked out. I had her go up the stairs slowly the last two days and noticed that she is capable of walking up the stairs normally. Maybe she just bunny hops when she's rushing. ? What types of treatments have you been doing for Lilly since the diagnosis? Good puppy care to limit your chances. And for these joints to work properly, the ball part, which is the bulbous end at the top of the long thigh bone, must fit neatly into the socket, which is a part of the pelvis. If the hip joint is not perfectly formed, movement is impaired, and use of the joint causes damage to the surface of the bones arthritis making a bad situation even worse. In some cases this can progress rapidly and seriously. Hip dysplasia in dogs causes arthritis, pain, and lameness. It varies in severity depending on the degree of damage in the joint, and to some extent on the individual dog. Some cases can be adequately managed with pain relief and care. But many medium to large dogs will need expensive major surgery to restore normal movement and relieve pain. Causes of Hip Dysplasia in Dogs There are two main factors at work. The other factor is the environment that the dog grows up in, particularly in early life. How fast he grows, and the way his joints are used when he is still developing, can influence the way his joints will turn out. These environmental factors include diet , exercise , and hormones. But for all the dogs in-between, we do know that there may be much that you as a pet owner, can do, to ensure your dog has healthy hips Your opportunities to help There are two main opportunities for you to ensure your puppy is free from hip dysplasia The first opportunity begins before he is born. The second begins when you bring him home. If you have already bought your pup, there is nothing you can do about the first, so just skip down the page and read up on what you can do when you bring your puppy home. There are no exceptions. Breeders can then remove dogs with bad hips from their breeding programmes. It is of course utterly irresponsible to breed from untested dogs, but the tests are expensive, so bad breeders will try and avoid them. And because puppy registrations generate money, the Kennel Club will still register puppies without scores, or with really bad scores! Check those certificates It is vital that you check the health test certificates from both parents of any puppy you consider purchasing. Remember, Kennel Club registration will not protect your puppy from having parents with bad hips. This is completely untrue. And it is thought that there are three main ways that you can help. The first is by avoiding inappropriate exercise, the second is by feeding for an appropriate rate of growth, and the third is a little more controversial as it involves delaying neutering until your dog is mature. Playing in the garden is sufficient for pups under five months old. If you take your puppy out on a leash , a rule of thumb often mentioned is no more than five minutes walking per day, for each month of his age. So that means a maximum of 25 minutes for a 5 month old puppy. This is just a guideline, to help those who are not sure how to exercise a puppy. Avoiding steps and stairs One study has shown that puppies climbing stairs at an early age were more likely to develop hip dysplasia. So it is a sensible precaution to carry your small puppy up and down steps. Diet and growth Everyone wants their puppy to grow big and strong. But optimal growth does not mean rapid growth. It is now thought that slower growth probably allows for healthier hip development. Make sure you keep your puppy slim, with a waist, and you should be fine. You can check out our feeding your puppy article for more information. In fact recent evidence has shown that neutering is implicated in a number of health problems, and hip dysplasia is one of them. A recent study of golden retrievers for example, found that the incidence of hip dysplasia in male dogs neutered early, was double that of male dogs left intact. If you want to neuter your dog, waiting until he is physically mature may reduce the impact of hormone loss on his joint development. You can read more about the pros and cons of neutering in this article: should I have my Labrador castrated? Preferably before you have a gorgeous puppy sitting in your lap and gazing into your eyes! Once you bring your puppy home, give him time to grow and mature naturally. There will be time enough for that later. Spread the word Tell everyone you know about the importance of hip scores. We need to ensure that there is no market for puppies for untested parents. Your decisions now in this respect have the power to help many puppies now and in the future. Got something to ask a vet? Thank you. The rest of the article continues below. One of the common causes of a puppy walking abnormally is vestibular dysfunction. It refers to the impairment of the functioning of the inner ear that allows for adequate balance. In most cases, it is caused by infections to the inner ear, trauma, tumors, and hypothyroidism. Symptoms of vestibular dysfunction include poor balance, incoordination, and abnormal gait. The sections below will explore some other causes of your puppy walking funny. This compression causes neck pain that is often accompanied by nervous system deficits. Nutritional imbalances Good nutrition is needed for adequate growth and function, and several disorders can be a result of nutritional imbalances. Growth disorders are a common result of nutritional imbalances. This can affect the way your dog walks, especially in its growing-up years. Luxating Patellas A luxating patella is a form of knee dislocation, where the knee bone pops out of place. The knee bone can also pop back in on its own due to a change in movement. This can be seen in dogs with a temporary limp that seems almost instantaneously cured before your dog even notices. Hypoglycemia Hypoglycemia refers to abnormally low blood glucose levels. This condition can cause your dog to exhibit sluggish movements due to decreased energy levels. Infections Injuries and surgical sites create an ideal environment for infection. Hip dysplasia Hip Dysplasia causes loosening of the hip joint, which results in pain, discomfort, and dysfunction. This condition can cause your dog to walk with a pronounced limp, which can be difficult to manage. Some dog breeds are more predisposed to having this condition, such as the Great Dane, English Bulldog, and German Shepherd. Legg-Calve-Perthes disease Legg-Calve-Perthes disease is a condition that causes a disruption in blood supply to the hip bone, causing degeneration of the hip joint. When the blood supply is disrupted, it causes the bone to be replaced with cartilage, which then begins to wear down over time. This disease is most common in small breeds, such as Dachshunds and Cocker Spaniels, and often strikes between the ages of 4 and 12 months. Panosteitis Panosteitis is an inflammatory condition affecting the bones in dogs as they grow. It is quite commonplace among young, growing dogs and is characterized by inflammation of the long bones in the legs, which can cause pain and lameness. The exact cause of panosteitis is not well understood, but it is thought to be related to rapid bone growth and abnormal bone metabolism. Treatment of panosteitis typically involves managing the symptoms with pain medication and rest. In most cases, the condition will resolve on its own as the dog matures. Congenital abnormalities Some puppies have congenital abnormalities that only become noticeable later in life when they start walking. These abnormalities are present at birth and can affect the bones, joints, or muscles of the legs, resulting in difficulty walking or standing. Some common congenital abnormalities that can cause lameness in dogs include elbow dysplasia and deformities of the feet or toes. Treatment of lameness due to congenital abnormalities will depend on the specific condition and may involve surgery, physical therapy, or other forms of medical management. Ate the wrong thing If a puppy ingests something that is toxic or indigestible, it can irritate the gastrointestinal tract and cause abdominal pain. This can lead to lethargy, loss of appetite, and difficulty walking or standing. In severe cases, the puppy may need to be treated with medications to control vomiting and diarrhea, and supportive care to prevent dehydration. Do you know what does it mean when your dog keeps trying to poop after pooping? Nervous system diseases These conditions can affect the nerves that control the muscles of the legs, leading to weakness, difficulty walking, and loss of coordination. Some common nervous system diseases that can cause lameness in puppies include distemper, rabies, and encephalitis. Drank alcohol Alcohol has the same effect on you as it will on your puppy, causing abnormal gait and dysfunction. It is very dangerous for puppies, as they are much more sensitive to its effects than adult dogs. Alcohol can cause a range of symptoms in puppies, including vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, and difficulty walking or standing. In severe cases, alcohol poisoning can lead to coma and even death. Keep the bottle out of their reach! If your dog does have any wounds make sure to clean and treat the area appropriately. Although there may be normal reasons for your dog to be limping, persistent lameness is a concern and you should consult your vet. Alternatively, you can first check out how to do a lameness exam on your dog. When is Lameness in Dogs an Emergency? If your furry best friend is suddenly unable to walk or stand, it could be a sign of a serious emergency. Firstly, bleeding, trauma, fractures, dislocations, and extreme pain will require immediate attention. I would advise you to seek the help of a vet if lameness occurs suddenly and lasts for a duration longer than 20 — 30 minutes. Puppies below 6 months have a slightly irregular gait, with their back legs facing more outward while running and general clumsiness caused by their excitable nature and developing coordination skills. After about 6 months, it is not normal for puppies to walk weirdly, and further inspection is required to determine if there is a medical condition. Why is my dog walking weirdly with its back legs? Your dog may be walking weirdly with its back legs due to many reasons, such as hip dysplasia, Luxating Patellas, Osteochondritis, and Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. If it persists, speak to a veterinarian to determine the cause of their abnormal gait and to determine the appropriate treatment. What are the signs of Hip Dysplasia in puppies? Signs of Hip Dysplasia in puppies include Lameness, Decreased levels of activity, Decreased range of motion, Swaying, Stiffness, and Difficulty with running, jumping, and stair climbing. Bookmark Wobblers Syndrome also called spondylolithesis , is a condition that can affect puppies or adult dogs. They develop an unsteady gait due to spinal cord compression caused by the narrowing of the vertabral canal, or by a ruptured disc in the neck. This causes the vertabral ligaments to become loosened and overstretched hypertrophy to the point of an inability to tauten properly when strength is needed. The vertebrae become malformed, or do not come together properly, which puts pressure on the spinal cord causing gait problems and moderate to severe discomfort. What Causes Wobblers Syndrome in Dogs? Rapid growth in large breed dogs and a predisposition to vertebrae conditions are considered factors for developing Wobblers. The definite causes of Wobblers Syndrome are unknown, but studies show that like other degenerative joint and ligament diseases, there might be a genetic factor hereditary , possible over stimulation, or perhaps even a nutritional imbalance. Great Danes and Doberman Pinchers seem to be most affected, with males twice as prone to the condition as females. Symptoms can appear in Great Dane puppies as early as 10 to 18 months although it is most commonly seen between 3 and 9 years of age. Signs and Symptoms of Spondylolithesis Symptoms of Wobblers Syndrome are progressive, and show up gradually as a dog ages. Signs of Wobblers Syndrome often begin with a mild, unsteady gait in the dog's hind legs. This "wobbly unsteadiness" often spreads to the front legs. In severe cases, the dog becomes wobbly when he walks and can even fall over when trying to turn. In some cases, the onset of symptoms is sudden, although that is infrequent. The early manifestation of Wobblers Syndrome in dogs can mimic other health problems such as arthritis, hip dysplasia or even an inner ear infection. Wobblers Syndrome is a serious and progressive condition in which an abnormality in the spine pinches the spinal cord. It's rare enough that you or your veterinarian may not recognize its symptoms at first, especially if your dog isn't one of the breeds where Wobblers Syndrome occurs most often. It's difficult to treat, but best if caught early. Why is My Dog Walking Funny? The dog may drag his hind toes as he walks, one of the typical symptoms. The stiffness may seem worse in his hind legs, and he may walk clumsily as if partially paralyzed. Note that he generally won't show signs of pain, such as whining or whimpering in the early stages. Clumsiness Falling when making sharp turns - Watch your dog's movements when turning a corner. A dog with Wobblers Syndrome may seem fairly normal walking in a straight line, but have difficulty making a sharp turn. He may appear drunk or uncoordinated or even fall down when turning quickly. At other times, he may walk with his hind legs spread wider than normal to give him added balance. Dogs with Wobblers Syndrome may carry their heads down or lower than usual and move them stiffly. If your dog is showing the symptoms above and other causes have been eliminated, ask your veterinarian to check him or her for Wobblers Syndrome. Since this disease is due to a compressed spinal cord in the neck, x-rays may help with diagnosis. Your veterinarian may also do a neurological exam and can also advise you about the benefits and risks of other tests, such as a more involved x-ray technique, the Mylogram, which may be more expensive or painful. Most veterinary neurologists today recommend CT scans or MRI scans for accurate diagnosis and localization. Unfortunately there is no simple cure for Wobblers Syndrome, but catching the condition early can help give you and your vet a chance to discuss the options for treatment or surgery to slow down or stop its progress. Prevention The best way to prevent Wobblers Syndrome is to feed large breed puppies a diet that will keep them from growing too quickly. Your veterinarian can help you determine which diet will work best for your dog. Many cases of Wobblers cannot be prevented because they are genetic in nature. It's best not to breed dogs that have the condition as they may pass it to their offspring. Treating Wobblers Syndrome Treatment for this condition can vary, depending on the severity of symptoms. Corticosteroids like prednisone can help reduce inflammation and help eliminate most symptoms. A neck brace can also help in serious cases because it stabilizes the spine and reduces inflammation. Pets suspected of having Wobblers Syndrome should not be walked with a neck collar and should be led exclusively using a harness. In some cases, surgery is recommended. The surgeon will fuse the unstable vertebrae together to relieve pressure on the spinal cord. This option is not always a good choice since other vertebrae can become compromised as a result of the surgery. However, this option provides the most chance for fixing the problem and prevention of any worsening of clinical signs. Your veterinarian will be able to help you determine what treatment option provides the greatest benefit to your dog. Post Treatment Options Since there is not yet a cure for Wobblers Syndrome, dogs suffering from this condition must be managed with medication and restricted activity, especially at times when they are experiencing the most discomfort. In some cases, a dog with mild Wobblers can live happily without treatment, while in other cases, treatment is required in hopes that the dog can live a normal life. The puppy must be 8 weeks of age or over Before bringing your beloved puppy home, it's important that the puppy is over 8 weeks of age and has been properly weaned before they leave their mothers. Some sellers will keep the puppy longer than this and this is perfectly fine. There should be absolutely NO reason for you not being able to see the mother of the puppies. Mypetzilla forbids third-party selling of puppies. All puppies advertised must have been bred by the advertiser. If this is not the case, Mypetzilla will report the advert to the authorities for necessary action. It's worth asking the seller a few questions regarding the mother: How old is the mother? How is the mother's temperament? You can do this by arranging a visit with the potential advertisers home if they try to avoid you visiting, or make excuses, and then you should be concerned. If the advertiser asks for money, or deposit to be paid online without you visiting the dog at their home, or they request to meet you somewhere or drop the dog off at yours, then please DO NOT agree. We advise that you should never send money online. Mypetzilla conducts various checks on advertisers on this site, but are unable to confirm that all are genuine. So please make sure you visit the advertiser at their home and verify this yourself. Important health checks for puppies and dogs It is very important that you check the health of your puppy or dog before you decide to adopt or buy. A responsible seller will fully understand the need and therefore fully cooperate with assisting in the checking the health of the puppy. Majority of sellers will agree that you can return the puppy or dog within 48 hours should they have any health issues. Mypetzilla recommends taking your puppy or dog to the vet for a health check as soon as you take them home. It is also worth ringing the vet to confirm everything beforehand. Vaccinations must be up to date Check the puppy or dog is up-to-date with their vaccinations. All puppies should have received 2 vaccinations. The first vaccination should be given between weeks of age and the 2nd vaccination should be given no more than 2 weeks later when the puppy has reached the age of weeks. Older dogs may also need booster vaccinations and this is normally recommended by the vet. It's important that you check with the seller what vaccinations the puppy or dog has had. It's worth noting that puppies should have had their first vaccination before they leave their mother. If the seller has not provided a vaccination plan, then it will be your responsibility to make sure you arrange both vaccinations 7 days before letting your puppy go outside. Check the puppies have had their treatment for worms and fleas It is recommended that all puppies should be wormed at the age of 2 weeks and then receive another treatment at the age of 5 weeks old. Before the puppy leaves the seller, they should have had more worming treatment at 8 to 12 weeks of age. Check to see if the puppies have been socialised It's necessary that the puppies have interacted well with their puppy litter and have been raised in a home environment around other adults, children, and general household life. Puppies that don't receive this kind of training and development from a young age, may go on to develop behavioural problems later in their life and become difficult to train. They may likely develop temperament issues and will find it difficult to adjust to family life. Kennel Club registration? It's worth considering to check the documentation and phoning the Kennel Club to verify the registration. Check the Puppy has been microchipped This is a very important point and is also law abiding. From the 6th April , it is required by Law that all dogs over 8 weeks of age are microchipped and that the keeper's details are registered in their name and are kept up-to-date. You must make sure you receive the microchip documentation with the chip number and then arrange to change the microchip details into your name. You can find out more information about this by visiting our puppy and dog microchipping article. Considering pet insurance Insuring your puppy or dog is one of the most important decisions you should make when bringing your beloved puppy home. Veterinary fees can become extremely expensive and it's important that you have the correct level of cover beforehand. We recommend that you research pet insurance providers and purchase the correct level of cover. Most policies will allow you to start the cover the day your puppy or dog arrives at their new home. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. As English Bulldog Breeders, how do you breed for a healthier Bulldog? Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other bulldog breeders from improving the health of their Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes them unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities and produce high quality English Bulldogs for sale. I have been looking for English Bulldog Puppies for sale near me. Where are you located? We are located in the Northeast corner of Indiana. We just happen to be about 2. We also utilize our own flight nanny for our West Coast adopters looking to have their puppy hand delivered. Whether through pickup or through delivery service, we try to be the type of bulldog breeder that is ethical and responsible to both our bulldogs and adopters. Life Span Did You Know? Since most of the rescued dogs suffered terrible experiences of neglect, CPR makes sure to address the behavioral issues the dogs might have before clearing them for adoption. Their adoption fee varies depending on the age, breed, and health condition of the dog. Meanwhile, they also provide a set of guidelines for adoption that applicants must adhere to. Here are the minimum requirements that you should meet upon applying adoption from CPR: A fenced yard is strictly required. Families with members under five 5 years of age are not approved for adoption. Current pets at home must be neutered or spayed. Pet shipping is prohibited so you should be able to personally pick up the dog. The adopter must be able to visit the facility for the meet and greet. You can also check their adoption procedures by visiting their website or reaching out to them through email and call. Since its establishment in , it has already saved almost a thousand abandoned and surrendered dogs. All of the Labradoodles they rescue receive health examinations and behavioral modifications before adoption. This rescue follows a foster scheme which means the dogs stay in the loving homes of volunteer members until they are ready for adoption. The fees vary depending on the age, health condition, and breed of the dog. In applying in SCPR, make sure to read about their guidelines in adopting and submit a detailed application. Another thing that can help you significantly with your dog hunt is reading our ultimate dog adoption guide. It's quite simple. We save doodle mixes from being taken to the pound, going to a shelter, or being put down. If you would like to be a temporary home for a rescue while we are seeking a forever home, please contact me by email sugarpinedoodles icloud. We do allow a one month trial basis for families interested in adopting a rescue. Please contact me with information about your lifestyle and the type of dog you're looking for and I can let you know if we have a rescue that we think is a match. I'd like to say that you are a pretty special person for even hanging out on a dog website. To top it off, you are on our Rescues page! No matter if you are determined to rescue a dog or just curious, can I please smack a big kiss on you for even thinking about it.I'd like to answer that question for you. We love dogs - plain and simple. We really love a lot of stuff. We love our family, we love the mountains, we love meeting new people, we love art, we love photography, we love the truth and we love life. Speaking of the truth. Therefore, there is a need for people like ourselves that already have a dog-seeking site to help facilitate wonderful animals finding a home. If you're reading this and wondering if there is another reason then just our love of animals for rescuing. Well, yes there is. We are breeders. Despite any bad press, breeders are part of the solution to neglected animals. We don't have puppies for fun or accident, that we hope our family, friends, or people at our local grocery store will take off our hands. We are the opposite of that. We spend most of our time speaking, emailing and texting families that are looking for a pet. We educate them, screen them for pet adoption, and support them once they do adopt. We are being responsible for the types of dogs we are breeding by selecting healthy, gentle, intelligent parents for our puppies. Our entire life is finding better ways to be good breeders and helping our families be good pet owners. With all this in mind, we believe that offering rescuing services will ensure none of our puppies we've placed in the world will ever end up in a kill shelter. We want to be the kind of breeder that supports our families for life. As a result, our families can call us and say they just can't keep their pet, for whatever reason, and we will come and get the dog. The first thing we do is have the owner explain everything about the pet they are giving up. We then bring that dog into our home and evaluate it's condition and get a game plan and timeline for finding it's new home. We are committed to keeping that dog for weeks or months until it's ready for adoption. We put that dog on our dog schedule; we do additional training; we crate train in our home; we have it sleep in our room at night for it to bond with us and see that this is it's home, and we bring it around town to socialize, socialize, socialize. Once that dog is ready to be adopted we post photos, a description, or both on our site and in advertising. Now, this rescuing isn't something new for us. As a child, I brought every stray animal home and nurtured it back to health and found it a home. I remember in college finding a stray dog with puppies behind our apartment complex with less than five dollars till the end of the week and no gas in my car. So, I asked a friend for a ride to the grocery store and posted a sign that I found a stray dog with puppies on the community board with my phone number. Next, I stood in the pet food isle and asked people if they would mind contributing a dollar so I could feed this skinny mommy so she could make milk for her puppies. A mean guy said he would get me a garbage bag to just dump them into. Well, I started balling. When he said that I freaked out that someone could even think that. I felt broken seeing this malnourished dog struggling with her puppies. I saw a person in there, a mom. Needless to say the man felt so bad when he saw me fall to pieces he handed me a twenty dollar bill. As I kept crying I thanked him and got food and some milk. I didn't know then that milk probably wasn't the best for this mommy dog. When I got back to my apartment I snuck the dog in and fed it warm milk and made a home for her and her puppies. No animals were allowed at our complex. Two of the puppies didn't make it and I was devastated. A friend came over and the mommy dog barked and really got protective so I really was getting stressed out about having this dog but I just couldn't put her outside. Luckily, a wonderful, beautiful lady called me that was a rescuer. She understood I was just a poor college student with limited resources. Two days later she arrived to pick up this dog. She said she would have the dog at her ranch until it was in better health then she would find it a home. Around a month later I received photos in the mail. The mommy stray and her three puppies found homes. One other thing, my apartment suddenly had flees and I had very upset roommates.Through this experience I learned a very important lesson, I could do something about another living thing struggling. I may have needed some financial help but all I had to do was ask. It's a fact that working together, placing an ad, asking for a donation, and doing the best I could do was good enough and that work helped get those dogs a home. Miracles happen, they really do. We are on some doodle rescue lists and many vets and shelters have our number. Many of our rescues have come from word of mouth. When we receive a rescue we do quarantine them from our doodles for a minimum of three weeks then do thorough testing for diseases before they come to our home. We typically work with a rescue for three to six months or as long as it takes. Next, is our re-homed doodles. Per our contract, we require all our adopting families, that can no longer care for their doodle, to return them to us for placement. A doodle can be returned for numerous reasons but in most cases that doodle is just too much for their adopting family. As a result, we occasionally have doodles available as re-homes. We always get a second and third opinion from outside trainers and behaviorists with every incoming dog. These evaluations are very informal and are more for the safety of our family and our doodles. We do not provide extensive reports, clinical diagnosis or professional evaluations. Instead, we use all the information we've collected and we work with each doodle until we can see they are ready for their forever home. Each of the doodles we offer are dogs I can and would live with myself. Now, I've been bitten numerous times, I've always had dogs, I've always rescued dogs and I'm quite experienced with dogs. With that said, I do not believe rescues or re-homes are appropriate for families with children and I prefer dogs with questionable pasts to go to families that are experienced with owning a dog. Please do not consider a rescued or re-homed doodle for the cost savings alone. Instead, consider a rescue or re-home for all the other wonderful benefits and perks of adopting an older dog. All of our rescues come with a contract, worming medication, blanket, 10 days of food, probiotics, toy, chew toy, tooth brush, microchip with lifetime membership in most cases, current vaccines, spayed or neutered, all the health records in our possession, life-time of support and small adoption fee. Past rescues and re-homes have ranged from to depending on many factors like costs incurred, age, training, desirable traits and expenses incurred to make them forever-home ready. Their enthusiasm could easily turn to destructive behavior if not given this outlet. They would do best in a home with a fenced yard, so this energetic dog may not be the best option if you have a low-energy apartment life. Google image SEO best practices Google provides several Search features and products that help users visually discover information on the web, such as the text result images , Google Discover, and Google Images. While each feature and product looks different, the general recommendations for getting images to appear in them is the same. You can optimize your images to appear in Google's search results by following these best practices: Optimize the image landing pages Help us discover and index your images The technical requirements for getting your content in Google's search result applies to images too. Since images are a substantially different format compared to HTML, it means there are additional requirements for getting images indexed; for example, finding the images on your site is different, and the presentation of the images also influences whether an image is indexed at all, and for the right keywords. This allows you to use CDNs content delivery networks to host images. If you're using a CDN, we encourage you to verify ownership of the CDN's domain name in Search Console so that we can inform you of any crawl errors that we may find. Responsive images Designing responsive web pages leads to better user experience, since people can access them across a plethora of device types. Refer to our guide to responsive images to learn about the best practices for handling images on your website. However, some browsers and crawlers do not understand these attributes. We recommend that you always specify a fallback URL via the src attribute. The srcset attribute allows specifying different versions of the same image, specifically for different screen sizes. It offers a fallback approach so the browser can choose the right image depending on device capabilities, like pixel density and screen size. The picture element also comes in handy for using new image formats with built-in graceful degradation for clients that may not yet support the new formats. Per section 4. It's also a good idea to have the extension of your filename match with the file type. You can also inline images as Data URIs. For more on this, refer to the section on pros and cons of inlining images on our web. Optimize for speed and quality High-quality photos appeal to users more than blurry, unclear images. Also, sharp images are more appealing to users in the result thumbnail and can increase the likelihood of getting traffic from users. That said, images are often the largest contributor to overall page size, which can make pages slow and expensive to load. Make sure to apply the latest image optimization and responsive image techniques to provide a high quality and fast user experience. Analyze your site speed with PageSpeed Insights and visit our Why does speed matter? Optimize the image landing pages While not immediately obvious, the content and metadata of the pages where an image is embedded can have a great influence on how and where the image may appear in Google's search results. Check your page title and description Google Search automatically generates a title link and snippet to best explain each result and how it relates to the user query. This helps users decide whether or not to click on a result. Here are two examples how the title links and snippet might look like on a Google search result page: We use a number of different sources for this information, including information in the title and meta tags for each page. You can help us improve the quality of the title link and snippet displayed for your pages by following Google's title and snippet guidelines. Add structured data If you include structured data, Google can display your images in certain rich results , including a prominent badge in Google Images, which give users relevant information about your page and can drive better targeted traffic to your site. Follow the general structured data guidelines as well as any guidelines specific to your structured data type; otherwise your structured data might be ineligible for rich result display in Google Images. In each of these structured data types, the image attribute is a required field to be eligible for a badge and rich result in Google Images. Here are two examples how rich results might look like on Google Images: Use descriptive filenames, titles, and alt text Google extracts information about the subject matter of the image from the content of the page, including captions and image titles. Wherever possible, make sure images are placed near relevant text and on pages that are relevant to the image subject matter. Likewise, the filename can give Google very light clues about the subject matter of the image. When possible, use filenames that are short, but descriptive. For example, my-new-black-kitten. Avoid using generic filenames like image1. If your site has thousands of images, you might want to consider automating the naming of the images. If you localize your images, remember to also translate the filenames, keeping in mind the URL encoding guidelines if you're using non-latin or special characters. The most important attribute when it comes to providing more metadata for an image is the alt text text that describes an image , which also improves accessibility for people who can't see images on web pages, including users who use screen readers or have low-bandwidth connections. Google uses alt text along with computer vision algorithms and the contents of the page to understand the subject matter of the image. Also, alt text in images is useful as anchor text if you decide to use an image as a link. When writing alt text, focus on creating useful, information-rich content that uses keywords appropriately and is in context of the content of the page. Avoid filling alt attributes with keywords also known as keyword stuffing as it results in a negative user experience and may cause your site to be seen as spam. Opt out of Google Images inline linking If you choose, you can prevent the full-sized image from appearing in the Google Images search results page by opting out of inline linking in Google Images search results. To opt out of inline linking: When your image is requested, examine the HTTP referrer header in the request. Google will still crawl your page and see the image, but will display a thumbnail image generated at crawl time in search results. This opt-out is possible at any time, and doesn't require re-processing of a website's images. This behavior isn't considered image cloaking and won't result in manual actions. Alternatively, you can prevent the image from appearing in search results entirely. Optimize for SafeSearch SafeSearch is a setting in Google user accounts that specifies whether to show, blur, or block explicit images, videos, and websites in Google Search results. Make sure Google understands the nature of your site so that Google can apply SafeSearch filters to your site if appropriate. Learn more about labeling pages for SafeSearch.
