Health warranties always come in written format and are included with your adoption agreement. All of these organizations require their member breeders to follow strict health testing standards and ethical breeding protocols. But, we do recommend you do some additional digging online. Moreover, if you know anyone in your area that has adopted a Goldendoodle, ask them about their own personal experiences with breeders. Winding Creek Ranch handles their pups daily and focuses on safe, age appropriate socialization. All of their dogs receive lots of human contact from birth, and of course, lots of hugs and kisses. In addition to that, they utilize many different enrichment methods, such as noise desensitization, sound stimulation, and socialization with humans and other animals. What Makes This Breeder Unique? Royal George Goldendoodles is a very small home breeding operation that produces only a few puppies every year from their two breeding dogs. The puppies are F1BB medium Goldendoodles. That gives you the opportunity to meet the breeder in person, check out the conditions in which the breeding dogs and puppies are kept, and get an overall vibe for the setup. The kennels should be clean, bright, and airy with fresh water available to the occupants at all times. The dogs should have access to some outside space, and they should have comfortable beds and a few toys, too. If the breeder declines your request to visit them without a valid reason, for example, due to Covid restrictions, you should be suspicious and make further inquiries about the operation. Any breeder who suggests meeting at a service station or some other random place to pick up your puppy should be avoided. These are classic red flags for puppy mills. Both dogs should be friendly, well-socialized, in good condition, and well-groomed. Personal Experience When I went to see my puppy, he was in a pen with his Mom and siblings. That was great to see, as it gave me a clear indication that her babies would grow up with similar temperaments. Dad was eager to meet his visitors and appeared relaxed and happy in his home. So far, my puppy is proving to be a happy little guy with an outgoing, friendly nature. Everyone we meet stops to pet the pup, and he just takes everything in his stride. Medical History All puppies take some of their genes from each parent. So, you want to be sure that the pups are healthy and free from genetic abnormalities that could cause health problems in the future. A responsible breeder will have their breeding stock health-screened for congenital health problems that could be passed down to their progeny. Micro is then a huge classification of any puppy less than 14 lbs. Whether you call them Micro Goldendoodles, Micro Petite Goldendoodles, Toy Goldendoodles, Teacup Goldendoodles; they all have the same great personality as their larger Goldendoodle ancestors in a cute small little package. Here at Hilltop Pups, we only breed Poodles with English Golden Retrievers for their excellent health record with an average life span of years. Absolutely no other breeds mixed in to rush the downsizing. Downsizing takes several generations by breeding in a smaller size poodle every 2 to 3 generations to retain the English Golden Retriever personality. Our smallest poodle here is 3 lbs. Since Hilltop Pups team is creating and perfecting the smallest Goldendoodles along with the increasingly popular Irish English Goldendoodles; we have our own size range chart of the average sizes we have witnessed in the past 20 years of breeding. Until an organization such as AKC or CKC identifies Goldendoodles as an official breed, no organization can state what the size standards are as they vary so greatly with breeders breeding American or English Golden Retrievers, plus the range of poodle sizes from lbs. Although Goldendoodles are not considered a Purebred dog breed; it is still important to register your puppy with a reputable canine tracking organization. This will allow breeders to have the information necessary to make responsible breeding decisions. I am an official Preferred Breeder by the strict Breeding Standards set forth by CKC which has the best pedigrees for tracking ancestors for breeding purposes. There are many Designer Dog Registries, but I prefer one of the two largest reputable groups. The English lines create the Teddy Bear look. The English Golden Retrievers have short stocky legs and shorter body length, whereas, American Golden Retrievers can have long bodies and are taller. My two daughters Abby and Brittany are breeding dogs at their houses, and all puppies are raised with the same excellent breeding practices. Our three sons also house dogs for us; all their dogs are listed on my website, so we can link our websites together. I prefer puppies to get all the interactions they can with different people; you are providing valuable puppy training as well. Evansville is a one-hour drive. This is our house, not a public shopping center. We require appointments to visit as you do want to make sure we are home and able to focus our attention on you and have adequate time for you to interact with the puppies. This is not a large place; the visitation area can get crowded quickly if more than one family is visiting at a time. Our visitation Room does have windows on two sides, so you can see where and how all our adult dogs are housed. It is very important to stay as close to your scheduled arrival time as possible, give yourself that extra half hour for traffic concerns. We are at Eastern Time. Jasper is an aesthetically pleasing clean town of 15, and always rated at the top of the best places to live listings. How amazing it would be for AKC to do this; it is up to Breeders to commit to keeping their breed healthy going forward by health testing the parent dogs. Which believe me very few Breeders invest their money back into their dogs; so always demand copies of health testing prior to even submitting a deposit. DO Not trust Breeders that say they will provide the documents when the puppy goes home, demand proof up front. It is a nightmare to try to get paperwork from a Breeder after you have the puppy, because they do not have it. The Breeder is pulling on your emotions knowing you are getting attached to the puppy and then you are stuck with no proof that you have a healthy puppy that will live a long healthy life. Breeders never to rarely give you the correct documents after you have the puppy, learn from heart breaking experiences of having to re-home dogs that couldn't pass health screening. My research, commitment, and due diligence has paid off. Here is the foundation for creating the perfect Teddy Bear Goldendoodle and how to build conformity into the Breed. At Hilltop Pups we DNA test the coat type of all our dogs so we can create the most non-shedding hypoallergenic coat as possible. I follow this DNA rule when breeding to make sure my dogs are non-shedding. No guess work involved here; You can brush them and not even get hair to pull out. Next, we only breed with English Retrievers which produce a softer less shedding less matting coat than the coarser American Golden Retriever coats. The weight range of English Golden Retrievers that I have owned is for female and for males, although they look just and big and fluffier than the American Golden Retrievers. Next, we consider the color genetics behind the poodle: Reds-, browns-, and cream-colored poodles produce soft non-shedding coats. White, Gray, and Black poodles produce shredders even in the curly dogs; thus, they have been removed from Hilltop Pups breeding program. In we started breeding the Irish Goldendoodles. I am very pleased with what I have seen in the Irish Goldendoodles. Therefore, I only breed English Golden Retrievers as their life expectancy is years and very few ever have cancer. It takes a few generations to build the dark red poodle color back into the English Goldendoodles since the English Golden Retrievers are only white to cream. For the Irish we started with breeding a health tested American Golden Retriever to a health tested Irish Setter to get the hybrid vigor and dark red color; then bred that with a health tested male poodle and then back to another health tested poodle creating the F1b Irish Goldendoodles to ensure the hypo allergenic non-shed coats, plus get the dark red color and fabulous coats. The best French Bulldog breeders will always give you advice on how to continue feeding your puppy once you welcome them home. So what are the most important things to consider while trying to find the perfect food for your Frenchie? Read on to find out! The quality of dog food is always determined by the percentage of its protein content, in other words, the amount of meat or fish it contains. So what should you pay attention to when looking at the ingredients list? This could be beef, lamb, salmon, or any other type of meat. The list usually ends with some sort of animal fat, vegetables, and fruits. Jasper, available French Bulldog puppy at TomKings Puppies Any other ingredient not mentioned above is only included to increase the volume of the dog food and to ensure the most economical production possible. The flavor of the dog food When looking at dog foods, you can choose from lots of different flavors like a lamb, fish, beef, duck, etc. If one of the foods from a particular brand works fine for your Frenchie, the flavors can and should be changed as long as they have the same nutritional values. A varied diet is important not only for humans but dogs as well, not to mention that your fur baby will be very happy to taste some new flavors. The stool of your Frenchie A very important criterion and perhaps the best indicator of the given food is suitable for your Frenchie is their stool. A healthy stool should always be completely solid, which means you can easily collect it with a bag. You should always ensure a smooth transition by gradually mixing in more and more of the new food with the old to avoid any dietary issues. Signs of a food allergy in your Frenchie We have already mentioned that Frenchies tend to be allergic to chicken, but what are the actual signs of a food allergy? The most common symptoms include scratching, hair loss, dull lifeless fur, inflamed eyes and ears often with some discharge, paw licking, swelling, but also vomiting, and loose stools. You may not notice all of these and the degree to which they occur may also vary. Any of these symptoms indicate that an immediate change of diet is necessary, about which you should always consult your vet first. Eating a bit more slowly and with less appetite are usually signs telling you to cut out the middle meal. As for the amount, nice-looking French Bulldogs are a bit stockier, so you should always increase and lower the amount of their food with that in mind. Read our article to learn more about maintaining a healthy body weight for your Frenchie. Odie, French Bulldog puppy at TomKings Puppies Special recommendations by TomKings Puppies The best food for French Bulldog with a sensitive stomach For dogs with sensitive stomachs, we always recommend home-cooked food , so you can be sure of what your dog is eating. However, it is important to ensure that the transition from store-bought to home-cooked dog food is gradual. Consultation with a veterinarian can also be helpful in determining the best wet food for a French Bulldog. It is essential to choose a high-quality brand that uses real meat and avoids fillers, artificial preservatives, and additives. Look for products that are labeled as complete and balanced, which means they contain all the essential nutrients your French Bulldog needs in the right proportions. The best dry food for French Bulldogs Although cheaper dry food may appear to be similar to premium brands based on the label, there are significant differences in the quantity and quality of the ingredients. Additionally, we advise you to switch to adult food at the age of months. We always inform new parents of Tomkings puppies of the brands we used to feed the pups and we recommend to continue using the same brand for some time. The best raw food for Frenchies There are several types of raw food diets for dogs, including the Prey Model Diet, the B. To ensure that TomKings puppies receive only the highest quality food, we continuously evaluate available options and test the latest trends. We consult with a panel of experts and experienced puppy parents within the TomKings Frenchie Family, and we are proud to recommend the B. Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods diet. Consulting with a veterinarian is also recommended to determine the best course of action. In general, weight management dog foods can be a good option for overweight French Bulldogs. These foods are formulated to be lower in calories and fat while still providing high-quality protein and other essential nutrients. Avoid feeding table scraps or high-calorie treats, and make sure to provide plenty of opportunities for exercise and play. In some cases, a prescription diet recommended by a veterinarian may be necessary to help your French Bulldog achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Best food for French Bulldogs with skin allergies If your French Bulldog has skin allergies, it is important to choose a diet that is specially formulated to help support skin health and minimize potential allergens. Consultation with a veterinarian is also recommended to determine the best course of action. Some high-quality dog food brands offer special formulas that are designed for dogs with skin allergies. These foods typically contain limited ingredients and exclude common allergens such as wheat, soy, chicken, and dairy products. Instead, they may use alternative protein sources such as fish or venison and may contain added omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids to help support skin health. Some veterinarians may also recommend prescription diets that are formulated specifically to manage skin allergies in dogs. These diets may contain hydrolyzed proteins, which have been broken down into smaller components to minimize the risk of an allergic reaction. Even though processed dog foods might not look healthy to us, they actually contain all the nutrients that Frenchies need to stay healthy. Home-made and raw diets like B. Should I opt for dry kibble or canned wet food? Wet foods are of course more appealing to dogs, which means they get used to them easily and will not want to eat dry food again. If your Frenchie is a picky eater you can mix the dry and wet food but never give them the latter only. We recommend wet food for dogs who are ill and have no appetite. How much time does my puppy need to adjust to a new food? At what age should I switch to adult food for my French Bulldog? We usually recommend switching to adult food at the age of months old. If you notice that your puppy looks a bit chubbier or bigger compared to other Frenchies you can make this change even sooner. What is the best food for a Frenchie puppy? The best choice for your Frenchie puppy is to continue providing the same brand the breeder used to provide. This should be a high-quality brand that uses real meat and avoids fillers, artificial preservatives, and additives. What is the best food for an adult French Bulldog? You have several options. Pin 0 Shares My family and I were recently playing outside on a hot sunny day with our Frenchie. He got really hot as they tend to do , so we brought him into the shade for a while. We gave him some water, but also wanted to know if it was safe for our French Bulldog to eat watermelon to cool down. Can my French Bulldog eat watermelon or cantaloupe? Yes, French Bulldogs can eat watermelon, and it is safe for them to eat. However, be careful with the seeds and rind as they can cause digestive blockages and problems. Make sure you prepare the watermelon properly for them to eat first. Is watermelon good and safe for a French Bulldog? Watermelon and cantaloupe are one of those super foods that all dieticians recommend we eat as part of a healthy diet. But what about our beloved Frenchies? Is it good for them, can we feed them watermelon, and more importantly; is it safe? Watermelon and cantaloupe are safe for a French Bulldog to eat as long as you take out the rind and seeds. Watermelon includes essential nutrition, calcium, potassium, plus vitamins A, C, B6, and B1 but in small doses. Strawberries are also a great idea — read more here. In fact, in the video below you can see my son and Claude playing with a water pistol out in the sun. Claude was really worn out and hot afterwards, so we gave him a small amount of watermelon to help cool him down. Watermelon contains no fat or cholesterol Watermelon also contains zero cholesterol or fat, so is safe for a French Bulldog to eat, with no concerns for the owner over long-term health issues. However, the rinds, skin, and seeds can present a problem. Are watermelon seeds dangerous for a French Bulldog? Can French Bulldog eat watermelon seeds? French Bulldogs can eat watermelon seeds, but it is not advisable that you let them do so. Seeds can cause gastrointestinal problems, are hard for them to digest, and can lead to blocks in their intestines, diarrhoea and upset stomachs. If you are going to prepare watermelon for your dog, you can read how to do so lower down the page. The bottom line is; remove the seeds before letting your Frenchie eat it. Can dogs eat watermelon rind and is it poisonous? Just like the seeds, the skin and rind can also cause gastrointestinal upsets. Just like any food, too much of one thing can be a bad idea. I have written extensively about this before for example, eggs are good for a Frenchie, but not in excess. So, can too much watermelon harm your Frenchie? This is good, but only in small amounts as a hydrating and cooling snack. View it as a treat, not a staple food. But what does that actually mean in reality? If you consider that the average French Bulldog weighs around 25 pounds, then his daily calorie intake should be no more than 25 to 30 calories per pound in body weight. There are 30 calories in grams of watermelon it should not exceed 75 to calories daily. That will equate to a watermelon intake of grams at a maximum — but not every day like our vet said. Handy Hint: Want to know what other fruits are okay for a French Bulldog to eat? Click here and download the list with 39 fruits ranked and rated for safety. Which part of the watermelon is safe for a Frenchie? Watermelon seeds: this should not be fed to your Frenchie as they can create obstructions in the intestines, particular in small breeds such as this. Frozen watermelon: yes, this is safe, and will retain the goodness from leaking out when they eat it. Cut the watermelon in two halves. Cut away the skin and rind. Remove the fleshy part with any seeds in. Chop the remaining watermelon flesh into small 3-centimetre squared cubes. You also might want to consider making your Frenchie some refreshingly frozen watermelon for a really hot day. Frenchie are prone to overheating, so this can be a great way to help bring their temperature down with a tasty and relatively healthy snack. All you do is freeze the small cube blocks you prepared earlier and bring them out of the freezer when required. I know I do, as do my whole family, Claude the Frenchie included! Not long after this photo was taken, Claude ate a refreshing portion of frozen watermelon to help cool him down. However, the watermelon cubes have the rind and seeds completely removed beforehand. It will make a healthy in small doses , refreshing, and hydrating treat that he will absolutely love! Here are some major benefits of feeding watermelon to your Frenchie. It contains two very important vitamins, including vitamin A and C, which are known to be essential for healthy hair and skin. It Protects Them from Cancer Watermelon contains several compounds that may reduce the risk of cancer, including cucurbitacin E and lycopene. These compounds help to lower insulin-like growth factor IGF , a protein created at high levels in tumor cells. If the level of IGF is increased it will increase the risk of cancer. A natural compound cucurbitacin present in the watermelon has the great ability to decrease the chances of tumors in French bulldogs. It can help protect dogs from being damaged by reactive oxygen species. This can be something as simple as damaged cells caused by too much exposure to the sun. Other environmental elements day after day through repeated bouts of stress that could eventually lead to health problems. It Helps In Relieving Muscle Soreness Watermelon juice is effective at relieving muscle fatigue and soreness after excessive activity such as training. The citrulline contained in it is a likely key factor. After a hard workout, we recommend giving your French bulldog watermelon juice to rehydrate your furry best friend and revive him or her with some much-needed energy in order for them to feel good again. Some parts of watermelons are certainly poisonous to French Bulldogs. The toxicity of watermelon comes from its rind and skin. Fortunately, if a French bulldog has eaten only the outside layer of watermelon. They are likely not in any danger unless they have consumed a large amount. As there is a risk of blockage in this case. Seeds have been known to cause digestive tract problems and would most certainly be unpleasant to eat. Conclusion With the hot weather upon us, there are a lot of people wondering if dogs can eat watermelon. While watermelon is safe for dogs to eat in moderation, there are some things to keep in mind when deciding whether or not to feed your dog watermelon. Try not to feed the skin and seeds of watermelon to your French bulldogs.

About Us For the Love of Golden Retrievers We are a family of 8, my husband and I have 6 children, 2 daughter-in-laws, 2 grandchildren, and 10 golden retrievers. Aside from being golden retriever dog breeders, my husband and I also have full-time occupations. My husband is a carpenter and runs his own business serving others in our community and I am a nurse. She immediately had us all loving her and her smile. Although Sammy passed in , she is the reason we fell in love with goldens and wanted others to experience the love and companionship that they have to share. Dog breeding has become so much more than a business to us. It is another opportunity for us to serve others; whether it be by creating a lasting memory for your family, developing friendships, or referring you to another breeder that would better meet your needs. Happy, Healthy Golden Retrievers Our golden retriever breeding business is built on integrity, quality breeding, friendship, and creating lasting memories. We value trust and understand that life happens. Therefore, we do not accept any money from our buyers until the puppy is delivered to them. We are members of the Golden Retriever Club of America and do health and genetic testing on all of our dogs to ensure ethical breeding and to ease the minds of our buyers. Following these standards and guidelines ensures that we are doing everything in our power to produce quality golden retriever puppies while providing the best care to our adult golden retrievers. Completing these health and genetic tests helps us reduce the chances of having golden retriever puppies with genetic diseases or disorders and allows us to facilitate the best health and qualities in our golden retriever puppies. We also believe everyone should experience the love of a golden retriever! If we are unable to meet your needs or timeline, we are not above referring you to another breeder. Our Philosophy At Hakman's Golden Retrievers--Illinois, we believe that breeding goldens is not just a business; it's a passion. We are dedicated to breeding dogs that are not only healthy and happy but also reflect the unique personality and character of the breed. Our commitment to our dogs and our customers is unwavering, and we strive to provide the best possible experience for everyone involved. There have become more and more breeders who do not follow the recommended or ethical guidelines when it comes to breeding dogs. We have even rescued a few dogs from breeders who do not follow these higher standards. We want to share the checklist below to help educate and assist others in their search for a healthy, quality golden retriever puppy. It is a great resource to use when vetting other breeders. Feel free to use the checklist in your own search for your "furever friend"! Our Dogs Our golden retrievers live in our home, run our grounds, swim in ponds, run in fields, and are pampered with professional grooming and veterinary care. In addition to regular veterinary exams and check-ups, our golden retrievers receive monthly Interceptor Plus and quarterly Bravecto per standard recommendations. While they live the life of a golden retriever, they also are pampered like a toy poodle. They sleep at the foot of our bed occasionally sneak on our bed and eat their meals in the house. Stud: Bubba. Share 0 Shares The Golden Retriever is a great dog for anyone who is looking for a high-energy dog that also has an excellent and well-rounded temperament. These qualities have made the Golden Retriever one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. When getting a Golden Retriever puppy it is important that you get one from a reputable and ethical source. This means that you will need to do your homework to ensure that a Golden Retriever breeder is reputable and ethical when it comes to breeding their dogs. This helps to preserve the Golden Retriever breed and promotes the breeding of mentally stable and healthy dogs. When getting a Golden Retriever puppy there may be some other things that prospective owners may want to consider before getting their puppy though. While this may discourage pulling, it may put pressure on joints or change the way they move, which are unsafe. A good harness should allow for free movement of the shoulders and elbows. All the harnesses recommended in this article are designed so that shoulders and elbows are not restricted. The design allows for the neck and girth straps to be adjusted for a nice fit. If your dog does pull while wearing the Urban Trail harness, the pressure will be on their chest and not on the neck. It includes four points of connection for the leash, which is unique. It has the traditional back clip, and a front clip, which can help with minimizing pulling. It also has a clip on the left and right, which can be used if you bike or jog with your dog as it keeps the harness from getting twisted to one side. It comes in six colors and has a reflective strip along the neck for safety and visibility at night. Front Range Harness by Ruffwear This is a really versatile harness — great for everyday walks, but durable for more active outings. It offers four points of adjustment so you can get a proper fit for your Golden Retriever. It also has two points of connection for the leash: one at the back of the shoulders, and one in front of the chest for dogs that pull. This harness has a couple of cool safety features as well. Reflective trim helps keep your dog visible and there is a small loop where you can attach a light. It also comes in a whopping 16 different colors! Weekend Warrior Harness by Hurtta This harness is made for dogs who enjoy going on adventures with their humans. The neck and girth straps are both adjustable so you can ensure it fits your Golden well. The interior is lined with a breathable mesh, to help your pup stay cool. The straps are padded and comfortable but still offer a non-restrictive fit so your Golden can move freely. This is one of the best harnesses for a Golden Retriever who lives for outdoor activities. The design incorporates a handle, which can be a convenient way to help your dog up a steep bank or to pull them back into the canoe if they decide to go for a swim out on the lake. The handle can also be helpful if you need to get control of your Golden quickly. Additionally, it can be a really nice feature for older Golden Retrievers who may need some extra assistance while out and about or even just around the house. It has one connection point for the leash at the back of the shoulders. The 3 in 1 Harness offers 5 points of adjustment for a highly customizable fit. Additionally, it has 2 points of connection for the leash: one at the back of the shoulders, and one at the front of the chest, which can help discourage pulling. A cool feature on the 3 in 1 Harness is a handle on top of the shoulders. It helps you get quick control of your Golden Retriever in the event of sudden onset case of squirrel brain or extreme wiggle butt. You can get the 3 in 1 Harness from Chewy here. This is particularly great for Goldens that are sensitive to things being slipped over their head. With this design, you can attach the harness from under their head. Easy on and off! Additionally, the Balance Harness offers two points of connection for the leash: a front clip at the chest, and a back clip at the shoulders. This can make it useful in training your dog to not pull on the leash. This harness is very lightweight and will not be bulky or hot on your dog. There are several options available for ensuring your dog is safe and under control when walking, including a regular flat buckle collar or a harness. A harness offers some benefits that may be helpful to you and your pup that may be better than just a collar. Squirrel brain is real! When they pull on a collar, that puts a lot of pressure on their neck, which can even cause damage to the internal structure of it. A harness eliminates that risk, as the pressure is lower on the chest. A front-clip harness can discourage pulling. For many dogs, this can really help them learn to walk with a loose leash. Some dogs will still need additional training for leash walking, but the harness can aid in the learning process. A harness can make outdoor adventures easier. Some harnesses come with handles, which can come in handy if you and your pup are adventurous types. If your Golden needs some assistance navigating a rocky stretch on your hike, a harness can make helping your pup out easier and safer than just a collar. If your Golden Retriever enjoys jumping off a dock to swim, the harness gives you a way to help him back ashore. So how do you that? Most golden retriever harness manufacturers have a chart with recommended sizes based on weight, neck size, and chest size also called girth. If you use a string, just measure your dog with it, then use a ruler or tape measure to see how long the string is. And when measuring their chest, measure the widest part of their rib cage, which is just behind their elbows. Rather than simply slapping the harness on them and heading out for a walk, spend a little time getting them used to it using positive reinforcement training. This excellent video by trainer Chirag Patel shows how you can build a positive association with the harness and get your dog to cooperate with putting it on. With some patience and good treats , your dog will be happy to put the harness on while holding still. The harness will also become associated with going outside on walks, so that will build positive feelings about the harness, too. Ultimately, a harness is a tool to help you and your dog enjoy life together with more ease and comfort. So whether your pup likes leisurely neighborhood strolls, or they love long, adventurous hikes, a non-restrictive harness can be a great option for your Golden Retriever. January 25, The Best Dog Harnesses for Golden Retrievers in If we had to make a list of dogs that come to mind when we think of iconic family dogs, golden retrievers would definitely be among the top. This classic gentle breed with its blonde fur and triangular flopped ears is one of the most popular in America. They are known to be loyal, trustworthy, easy to train, and eager to please. Combine this with the fact that they are known to retain their puppy-like qualities well into adulthood, they make amazing companions for all types. Purposefully Designed Because golden retrievers make such wonderful family pets, it might be surprising to find out that the breed was originally carefully crafted to ideal hunting gundogs. He wanted a dog who could withstand the rugged and rainy Scottish Highlands and accompany him on hunting trips around his estate. The lines of goldens grew consistent and refined, and in they first made their grand appearance at a British dog show. Through Canada, the Golden made its way into America and people fell in love. Hunters loved how useful the dogs were, and families loved that they were sweet and sensible. In the s, the breed made the big time. President Ford had a beautiful golden retriever named Liberty, and more and more people wanted one. The rest is history! While we love happy, excited dogs, a fur baby with a lot of energy and nowhere to put it can turn destructive jumping, chewing, and so on. One great way to help your pup focus and burn some of that energy is through regular walks! It lets your fur baby smell all of the fun things outside, creates great bonding time, and gets in some steps for you, too! And coming in between 55 to 75 pounds, they could put a good amount of force into a sudden pull or run. Joyride Harness is the choice for pet parents of excitable dogs because of the superior control it offers. The durable vest is fitted with a super-secure leash attachment point on the top for times when your fur baby is just a little too overzealous. Additionally there is a side ring for times when pulling is an issue. Attaching your leash at this ring point causes your pup to spin to face you should they try to suddenly forge ahead. With breathable fabric that allows for full range of motion without painful rubbing, Joyride Harness is secure, safe, and comfortable. Here are just a few of what the Golden lovers had to say! Andrew A. It is so simple to put on our dog Snowflake and adjusting the harness is so easy. She is quite the puller, and although we have not put in serious training time with the side rings, from the few instances that I did use them she pulled herself right in a circle. This is exactly as advertised. Snowflake is a very willful Golden Retriever and we have tried countless harnesses that never lived up to expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend this harness to any dog owner regardless of breed or attitude. The item shipped out within a day and was at our front door within three days from the order date. If you are looking for a dazzlingly simple harness that is well built and looks fancy on your pet then look no further. We have two golden retrievers that weigh between pounds and they let us put this one on them easily - no struggle at all. Harness is sturdy and I really like the three rings option. Also, seems very comfy for our fellas. Customer service was great - email notifications of order, shipment and delivery. Our daughters jog with him using it, which makes running much easier. Walking in town and on side walks has never been easier! He tugs and pulls me down at times. This Joyride harness is the best, least stressful harness we have gotten. Not expensive which is helpful since we have bought so many other brands. Great, great product! Both of them are slight pullers when taking walks, but with these harnesses they are so much more pleasant to walk! No more pulling! I also love how easy they are to get off and on them! I love these harnesses! And with a great dog harness you can have the best experience possible with this iconic member of the family! It is an adjustable harness that comes with two metal attachments for leashes, with one being on the front and the other at the back. The front attachment clip is meant for dogs who pull. If the dog starts pulling when the leash is attached to the front clip, they will be turned around instead of going forward. After a while, this will get frustrating, and they will learn that it is best not to pull. This makes it a great tool for teaching your feisty one how to be obedient. Once they have learned not to pull, you can switch to the back attachment clip. This harness will not give you any problems when it comes to putting it on or taking it off. The straps are also adjustable to allow you to find the size that fits snugly on the animal. This ensures that you do not have to worry about the Golden escaping the harness. This harness also comes with reflective strips to ensure that your dog is visible and therefore, safe when walking at night. The only downside to this harness is that the straps loosen after extended periods of intense activity. Nonetheless, the Rabbitgoo dog harness more than makes up for that drawback in quality and functionality, which is why we have it as our top pick. Shop now at Amazon What to Consider When Choosing a Harness With so many different types of harnesses, it can be difficult to know which one is best for your particular golden retriever. Here are some questions to ask yourself. What will I use this harness for? A simple, lightweight, durable harness is probably enough. A lifting harness can make your life much easier, particularly with a large dog like a golden retriever. Is my golden retriever a leash puller? Are they escape artists? If your dog is a leash puller, you need a harness with an attachment point on the chest. Soft, padded harnesses may be comfortable, but they can twist around when your dog pulls, making them less effective. If your dog is an escape artist, you may need a harness with an additional strap or one that can be adjusted for a closer fit. Is overheating a concern? If you live in a cold-weather climate or have a dog with short fur, the thought of overheating may not come into the picture. What is my budget? Of course, you can pick a cheap one if you need to, but it may not last very long. Be sure to balance price against durability, particularly if your dog is a leash puller or you need the harness for lifting. However, you may need a human assistant if you have a particularly wiggly dog. This will be a bit lower than wear a collar would sit. Make sure the tape measure is snug but not tight when taking your measurements. Most companies will include a sizing chart telling you how to match measurements to sizes. The actual harness will typically be an inch or two larger than the measurement to allow some slack. Frequently Asked Questions Do I need a harness just for going on walks? Golden retrievers in particular are so friendly that they may lunge after another dog to say hello, and this puts strain on their throat. What is a no-pull harness? Simply putting the leash attachment point on the back of the harness can actually allow the dog to pull harder, although it does take the pressure off their throats. In order to actually discourage pulling, the harness needs to have some mechanism that keeps the dog from lunging forward. Can a walking harness double as a seatbelt harness for the car? Some walking harnesses can. If a particular harness is safe to be used with a seatbelt, the packaging or marketing materials will usually state this. Conclusion You have plenty of choices when it comes to choosing a harness for your golden retriever. Make sure you choose one appropriate to your lifestyle, the local climate, and your budget. A poorly fitted harness can cause chafing and discomfort, so make sure you adjust it properly. Your dog should get many years of use out of a good, well-made harness. Key Features Fully padded straps Ergonomic design No sensitive area, from the underarm to the throat, will be at risk when your dog has this harness on. Even during intense exercises, they will stay comfortable. Since golden retrievers have sensitive skin, look for a harness that can be adjusted across the chest, belly, and back to prevent chafing and skin irritation. Reflective Straps: Reflective material will keep your goldie visible even in low light conditions, thus increasing safety during walks. Hence, strong metal buckles are essential for keeping your dog safe and secure during walks. No-Pull Design: Is a necessity if your golden retriever likes to pull during walks. A no-pull harness comes with a front ring that offers better control and can help you in training your dog how to heal. Ultimately, whichever you choose, it will teach your dog to stop pulling and ensure that you have some fun walking instead of running after your goldie. To sum up, golden retrievers are highly energetic and playful dogs who need a lot of exercise to stay out of trouble and in great shape. Taking your pooch on long walks is always a great idea, but you will need the best harness for a golden retriever if you want to have fun and be safe. You May Also Like.

German Shepherd puppies Louisiana are fine in the heat with access to shade and water. Can German Shepherds live in a city? Louisiana German Shepherd puppies for sale love mental stimulation due to their intelligence. These are adaptable dogs that do well in most environments as long as their needs are met. First you must find your foundation. I started thinking about how nice it would be to have a German Shepherd Dog like when I was young. I remember how pretty they were so I told Jeffrey, "I want a German shepherd". He immediately went on the hunt. He loves that stuff. When Jeff started showing me the dogs he was finding I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It is so hard to find a old fashion discerning yet calm, straight back shepherd these days. We found out the show dog people, changed the appearance of the Shepherd. It all looks legit so we bought a couple. I didn't care how much money or time I had in them or how great their paperwork said they were I had enough. I couldn't take it anymore. It was not what I wanted. Next Shepherd dog we found was the working line. We got a beautiful pup we called Titus. When we went look at him as a pup I mean he shined. He was like his owners shadow. He never got tripped on and moved like the wind. I knew that this dog had a high prey drive but I didn't know he didn't have an off button. We loved him but at a year old we placed with a man who lived on an 80 acre farm. Lord Jesus, what happened to the big beautiful straight back family farm German Shepherd Dog? I mean who would have thought? How hard could it be? But nowadays, what we were wanting was the minority. Most shepherds now either have the curved back that they swear is healthier, tested and winning everything. That is how they separate them now. They need a job, a serious job. They to hyper and to prey driven for what I wanted. Thanks to The Good Lord Jeff had ask me several times if I would be interested in the white shepherd. I said, "That is exactly what I want. We bought off different litters. These dogs are mentally smart. They are like a human with fur. They will understand your language and they learn everything very very fast. You should just be able to tell them once or twice and they get it. They potty train very fast! They are clean dogs. Most GSD tend to be wary of strangers or aloof, but not ours. Their drive to retrieve things makes them a companion for entertainment. They love kids. Who better to trust watching over the kiddos than the trusted loyal White Shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. According to an article in USA Today, 1, sheep fell off a cliff to their deaths in Turkey in .One sheep fell, so the others followed suit and jumped. In the end, sheep died. The ones that survived only lived because they were cushioned by landing on top of their fellow herd members. As a child growing up in church, I remember seeing a picture of Jesus with a lamb wrapped around his neck. As I grew older and visited more churches, I remember seeing similar pictures at a lot of places. I never questioned the image. The Bible is clear that God is our shepherd, and we are the sheep of his pasture, so I assumed the image demonstrated that biblical truth. However, several years ago while I was attending seminary, the image of the lamb wrapped around the neck of Jesus was explained to me. Because sheep tend to stray and will also follow wherever they are led, shepherds often had to discipline lambs that would stray from their shepherd. The shepherd would use his rod to break the leg of a wandering lamb. After binding the break, the shepherd would carry the lamb on his shoulders while the wound healed. If the lamb struggled and fought, it would quickly realize that the broken leg wouldn't allow it to flee. The lamb learned during the healing process that the shepherd could be trusted. The lamb needed the shepherd to provide food, transportation and protection. Once the wound was completely healed, the lamb was fiercely loyal to the shepherd and wouldn't stray from the shepherd's leading. A few years ago a news story broke about Shrek the sheep. Shrek was a Merino sheep who lived in New Zealand. Shrek became famous because he managed to avoid being captured and shorn for six years. His wool continued to grow and thicken, and his eyes were eventually hidden behind the thick coat. Shrek dodged the sheering by hiding in caves and running from his master. Once Shrek was finally captured and shorn, he carried 60 pounds of wool on his body, nearly six times the average amount. The wool on Shrek's body was enough to produce 20 men's dress suits. It's easy to see why the Bible compares us to sheep. We often follow the crowd, even when it leads to our own demise. We stray from the shepherd who loves us and seeks to protect us. We don't appreciate when God disciplines us. But if we surrender to him we learn through the discipline that God can be trusted. We are often like Shrek the sheep as well. We hide from God, clinging to the things that need to be shorn from us. We become weighed down with the burdens God could easily remove from us. The Bible also shares with us that God anointed his people with oil just as the shepherds anointed the heads of their sheep with oil. This wasn't just a symbolic ritual. Sheep are easy targets for flies, lice and ticks. A sheep that was not covered in oil on his head could easily become the victim of infestations of these pests. However, it wasn't just a nuisance. Bugs would crawl through the ear canal of the unoiled sheep and nest in its brain, eating away at it. The pain from the bugs would be so severe on the sheep that the sheep would bang his skull on rocks and against trees to ease his suffering. The sheep could break his own skull seeking relief from the brain-eating parasites. When God offers to anoint us with his oil, it means he offers us protection from the parasites of this world that seek to eat away at us. If we hide in caves, or jump off the proverbial cliffs of this world, dodging his anointing and protection, we may become victims of this world. We may become so filled with pain that we hit our heads against rocks to ease our suffering. God seeks to shepherd us through this life. Oftentimes that is through discipline, sheering or anointing. But it is always with love, and it is always with our best interest at heart. He is our shepherd. He can be trusted when we surrender to his leading. medium labradoodle puppies for sale ontario - Testimonials Skylar from Michigan Hello! We brought Ghost formally Rover into our family back in November and just wanted to share some photos of him living his best life with the owners of his parents. He is so smart and mischievous in the best way, that keeps us laughing all day long. He has also completed 2 rounds of training. Also wanted to note that if his parents were to have another litter, we are interested in getting him a little brother or sister further in the future. Donna from OH Hank has become a part of our family and is a delight. Sleeping thru the nights is an up and down issue. He barks when he needs to go out and trained so easily. Hank also just had his second puppy class and learning to walk on a soft lead. Hank did come to us with an intestinal bacteria issue and needed ten days of antibiotic from the vet. His poop was extremely soft but appears to have improved. He is a handsome dog and praised everywhere he goes for his coat and color. Hank adds joy to our family! Follows us everywhere. Thank you for this little slice of heaven. Charity from Ohio I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Smith is such a great addition to our family and is already loved by all 7 of us. You have done an amazing job with these puppies. He cried a little on the way home but quickly found a spot on the passenger seat and went to sleep. Then once we got home and he woke up he ate and played and slept all night in his crate only waking and crying once. He is also very well potty trained using his potty pads every time. Gary from Ohio Kenny is one year old tomorrow and thought you may like an update. Extremely smart and eager to please, loves the water. Thank you for him! Alexa from Illinois Randy is doing great! He handled all of the traveling today like a champ! Picking him up from the airport was such a pleasant experience. Mike from Phoenix The pups are adorable Galen, thanks much for holding them for us. They came to a great home. Very happy we got sisters, they play like that and after a bath both passed out!! Jonathan from Ohio Teddy has brought our family so much happiness! He is a Golden of the highest quality. His appearance, temperament, and behavior are perfection. The care prior to adoption made us feel so confident in our adoption. We just love Teddy. We actively recommend mygoldenretrieverpuppies. Thank you for bringing us so much love and joy in our Golden. Patricia from Ohio Merry Christmas from Hazel! Santa was really good to her! We love her! Jack from Ohio Easton with his new brother Brodie. He wasted no time finding the lake and getting his toes wet. He is sleeping on my feet now. Thanks for the puppy. Simba previously known as Bear is 14 weeks old now, and he is such an amazing puppy. He is on track to become a certified therapy dog when he turns one year old, and he has learned a handful of tricks already. He can sit, shake hands, high five, and lay down with ease. Seriously though, what a gem. Thank you so much, and we hope to stay in touch! Nothing phases him. If another dog is aggressive, he just ignores it. There is not a mean bone in his body. Housebreaking went very well and he barks to go out. We get a lot of tender kisses from him. Feathering has just begun on his tail. He still has his fuzzy, puppy head hair. His bark is deepening, and I joke that he is in his ugly duckling stage — our gangly teenager. Still, he is handsome enough that occasionally, people stop their cars to ask about him and admire him. He is our social ambassador. Obviously, both are quite spoiled. She absolutely loves playing soccer, playing in water, and is best friends with our cat Kyla. Thank you!!! Rosemary from Ohio Sammy has been to puppy class, obedience one, heel class and passed all three with flying colors! They are amazed at how smart he is. We are going to try agility just so we can have fun. Valerie from Florida Hi! I just wanted to update you on our new pup!! We took him to the vet yesterday and everything seems fine. Caitlyn from Ohio Hey Galen! Missy is absolutely fantastic! We have another little dog, a Pomeranian, and they are best friends. She loves literally everyone and is beautiful. You all are such great breeders and highly recommend you to all our friends and family. Amy from Ohio Our puppy is amazing. We just love our dog! She is absolutely perfect. Daisy is everything that we expected. As a puppy she never really got into a lot of things, never chewed anything up. She loves to cuddle and go for walks. I can not tell you how happy we are with her. I do have to say that she is definitely spoiled by each and everyone of us. My kids wished we would have gotten her brother also… I guess I do also but we are so satisfied with her! Jessica from Ohio We are so in love with our golden, Olive. She is seriously the best puppy we have ever known—calm, kind, and not a chewer! Everyone in the neighborhood knows her and loves her. She is around 40 pounds now and almost 5 months old. Kristin from Ohio Brady is doing awesome. He is almost 7 months now, continues to get bigger he is at about 65lbs right now and is healthy. He loves the dog park and doggy daycare so he can play with the other dogs. Our experience was nothing short of wonderful in working with you and the family. Brittany from Texas I purchased Noah from you almost 2 years ago, and Fitz about 8 months ago. They are both the sweetest dogs ever!! I have loved every minute of having them and am so fortunate that they have been in good health since bringing them home. I have a picture attached, Noah is the larger pup, Fitz the smaller. Courtney from Ohio I have Finley, who was originally named Logan on the site. He just turned one on February 28th. I am so incredibly happy with him. I can seriously take him anywhere with me and he behaves like a pro. I have always gotten compliments on how well he does out in public. Thanks so much for him. Alisha from Ohio Leo is just a few weeks shy of turning 11 months old! We love Leo very much and we know he loves us very much too. Especially the way he loves to wake us up in the morning to his yawns. They are loud and very obnoxious. Lol Or how he thinks that we are awake when we are turning over so he decides to lick our faces until we get up. Leo has grown so much from when we first got him and from when we sent a picture of him at 6 months. Leo loves to go on walks. I have to start spelling it out because he is ready to go now and not in a little bit. He also has been digging in our backyard. Which results in many baths. We are on a daily basis now. So we are ready for the spring showers to end!! The one picture is when he jumped on the chair with Daniel. He lays on his back like that all the time. The other one is just from him tonight! He sure is spoiled here and loved so much! Hope all is well with you! Tammy from Texas He is doing just great, has plenty of Kong toys and actually sleeps in the bed with me since he is an inside dog. He loves running around the oak tree as fast as he can in the back yard and makes sounds to talk to me. He still barks at his reflection in the glass of the French doors at night but has the mirror figured out. He is beautiful and very loving, still tries to chew on rugs and paper or pen when he can reach one like off the kitchen table LOL. The vet had me take him off puppy food early and put him on regular food, she said he was growing too fast. He trained fast but is still a little mischievous. We thought the whole process of buying him and having him shipped went very easy. I recommended a friend to you who is looking to buy a golden. Beth from Pennsylvania Lady is doing great! She is a wonderful 5 month old puppy-dog! Emily from Ohio We are so happy we found Leo through your site. He is so beautiful and an amazing puppy at almost 6 months old. Thank you for a great dog! Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. BBB unable to locate business More info I found a puppy online for my daughter. Contacted the company through email and they were to ship the puppy ALL shipping included if I paid the extra .The puppy was listed online for .So I sent the company .They sent me a link so I could track the puppy from Florida to Texas the following day. I watched the tracker and nothing happened. Then I received a phone call from the "Transport company" in which I think was completely made up. I told them to send me proof they had the puppy. They would NOT. I told them I would contact the seller and work things out. I tried contacting the seller and nobody would respond to my phone calls. I sent a text and that's when I received a response telling me that this was not a scam and I needed to just send the money to the transport company. I said absolutely not. That was NOT in our agreement. ALL shipping was to be paid and I was to receive my puppy for .I asked to get a refund and they could keep the puppy. I can not get anyone to respond. I have looked up the "Transgroup Logistics" company to see if they are real, and I can't find any company by that name. Also the document they sent me look to be a copyright. I have also looked up ALL the different phone numbers they have used and only 1 has came back attached to a name. Customer Reviews. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Check our Google reviews and Facebook page Summer's Goldens to see more stories and pictures. We could tell you were a genuine person and someone who would take the time to make sure the litter was properly cared for. I don't think you could have done anything better! Hampton is adjusting so very well. He is adventurous and sweet and everything you could want in a puppy. You answered all questions and offered to be available after the adoption to answer more; this gave us great peace of mind. Charlie adjusted very well to his hours-long crate travel to his new family and arrived eager to meet everyone, including his nine-year-old brother, Max. He had only a couple of accidents in the house. I would say his adjustment has been exceptional! Jen, who has raised two other family golden puppies, agrees that he is the BEST puppy ever! You were very flexible and accommodating when we were planning our visit to see the puppies. You were so patient with us when we were visiting the puppies and choosing our sweet Abigail. Picking up Abigail was so easy and your care package was full of wonderful surprises. I love the puppy photo book! Your folder is organized and helpful. Our Sadie and Aayla have adjusted wonderfully to their new homes within the family. The pups have been very successful in social settings with other family and neighborhood pets. They are smart learn commands easily , are confident of themselves in new environments, aim to please, and have the sweetest dispositions. We chose Summer's Goldens based on their integrity with raising purebred goldens whose genetics are monitored to ensure that we will have our sweet pups for a long life of good health and joy to the family. Marta was fantastic with communication, provided us the opportunity to meet the pup's parents with our visit, and set us up with all the necessary information to transition easily to our local vet. The pups came microchipped and AKC registration applications ready to go. A truly wonderful experience that will extend happiness in our lives for years and years to come! I've been around a lot of dogs and professional breeders in my lifetime, and I have to say these dogs have been bred very well. My new puppy Pippa is top-of-the-line with all the Golden Retriever breed standards. She is nine weeks old and her structure, gait, and personality couldn't be any better. Marta is a decent, honest person who breeds good dogs. That is very hard to find these days. I would recommend Summer's Goldens to anyone who wants a very well-bred Golden Retriever. I keep telling everyone I don't think we could've found a better breeder! The process was easy and couldn't have gone any better! Thanks again for everything! You always responded to my emails or texts in a timely manner. The shipment of Rover also went very smoothly. Everything you did was great for me and my family! I honestly can't think of anything that I think you could have done any better with your service. Everything you did for us was great and anything I asked or needed you provided an answer in a swift manner. We love Charlie! She would stand up in the box we brought along and simply sniff the air, then a minute later would be laying down sound asleep. She was great! She has truly been a joy. She is a very quick learner so she is doing great responding to her name, nearly house broken, and definitely knows where her food is kept! You really care about the pups and their well being. We truly could not think of a single thing that you could do better. You are a first class breeder! United was also a delight. Manchester, NH is a tiny airport. Ember was delivered to the ticketing desk with another little puppy. The agent said that she loved her job but this was her favorite part! Our daughter just finished 6 weeks of "Puppy training" with her, and the trainer said that she had never worked with such a well-adjusted and socialized young puppy--calm, loving and very quick to learn but fearless and daring as well. Ember starts her next set of training classes in late January. Lincoln seems to be very healthy and happy and open to new experiences. I can tell he is well-socialized because he is very happy to be with people and learns very quickly. He had this first vet appointment in Chicago and they said everything looks great! He was a hit there. Hannah came to us perfectly fine. We were so excited to meet her, we got to the airport early. You provided all the information that we needed and more. The care package was excellent. My wife and I loved the photo album, especially that you included pictures of her mom and dad. I honestly can't think of anything you could do better. The experience was great for me all around. That helped me to know I was dealing with the right person. From beginning to end the process was extremely smooth and free of stress. It truly was a blessing to work with you on finding our puppy and bringing him home. He has the best temperament and loves to learn! I had done a ton of research on finding a good breeder, and I looked at breeders in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana. When I found your website, I then looked you guys up on Facebook and read what people said. From there, I called you and felt confident in choosing you because you were very knowledgeable, kind, and always willing to answer any questions I had. Again, thank you so much for giving me the best little puppy in the world. We are already so close and I love him so much! Everything was so personalized and the well-organized folder has made it easy to store the important information one teacher can see teacher organization in another. Also, absolutely loved the pictures! This was our first experience adding a puppy to our family. There is no comparison and the bar was set very high. Thanks again, and if there is ever a Summer's Goldens reunion day, count us in! They sincerely care about the well-being of the puppies from conception, to birth, to being adopted. It was apparent how much they respect their dogs, the future of their litter's lives, and are extremely educated on how to properly socialize and raise puppies. I have had many dogs in my life, but our boy is the best puppy I have ever met. He is inquisitive, smart, playful, and so sweet. He loves everyone and every dog he has met, isn't fearful or skittish, and already responds to basic commands. He was crate-trained and potty-trained extremely quickly in 4 days! Summer's Goldens ensures that every litter, every puppy, is prepared for their forever homes. We are so grateful to have had this experience with them, they are kind, generous, and all around good people. We highly recommend Summer's Goldens. We are so happy to have our boy, Bowie, home with us, but we are eternally thankful for the first few weeks of his life that were spent at Summer's Goldens getting the best possible care a puppy could ask for. You are friendly, knowledgeable and very passionate about raising fantastic dogs. The emails with details about what stage of life the puppies were in and the pictures were a great reminder that we were getting a well-rounded puppy. And finally the take home care package, you included everything we would need, so thoughtful. We have experience with puppies and dogs--but for people who don't--I am sure prospective, first-time puppy owners will be very encouraged by how well you communicate. I also didn't feel like a 'number. It was also very encouraging to see just how clean and warm the environment in which these puppies are raised. He has picked up on things like sit, going up and down stairs, and potty training very quickly compared to our friend's new golden. I love that you socialize the dogs and all the effort you put into them. Our vet was also impressed he was already microchipped and dewormed. She said it was great! We will recommend you to anyone considering a golden and we will definitely be using you whenever we decide to get our next golden! Summer's Goldens was very thorough from start to finish and they have the well-being of their animals as their first priority. They made our puppy-buying experience wonderful. Highly recommended! Your weekly updates are certainly a special touch; it was exciting to see their changes each week and the information you provided was very helpful. Adoption day was such an exciting day for us and we could tell how happy you were for your puppies and their new families! We feel very fortunate that we found you and ultimately Ellie! We enjoyed the little photo book of Maggie and especially loved the blanket that had her parents' scent on it. We could also tell that she was very well-socialized before we got her. I loved the weekly pictures and even watching them on your website. Visiting your facility was also very impressive. You run a top shelf operation! He has been good as gold. We are making good progress with potty and crate training, and have introduced him to most of our family members. We have loved how cuddly and playful he has been. We found you all had an available litter, and a well documented and verified heritage of your dogs and puppies. Gus is a sweetheart! We just love him. I heard about you from the golden retriever forum-- someone had commented how awesome their experience was and the quality of Goldens. I was impressed with how clean everything was on both visits and that you let us see where they stay and their parents. Please please keep breeding Goldens! We enjoyed seeing your facilities and meeting Nova's parents. The entire process for getting our puppy was wonderful. It is very easy to communicate with Marta and I appreciate the love and care that she puts into her golden retriever family. The kennel area is very clean and well-kept for puppies and adult goldens. Marta is also very organized. Having all the current health and vet information together in one place is greatly appreciated! When I took my new puppy for his first appointment with our vet, they were thrilled with all the documented vaccines and health records that Marta had given us. They said that Marta had pretty much followed everything to a T as far as that went. I was very happy to hear that! Our puppy is happy, healthy and loves everyone.

GDV has a high fatality rate and will almost certainly result in death if untreated. The American College of Veterinary Surgeons explains a few of the treatment options: If the bloat has gone far enough that your dog has gone into shock, the first step will be to stabilize your pet, which involves oxygen therapy and administering IV fluids. This should relieve the pressure. Sometimes water is also used to wash any remnants of food from the stomach. How to Prevent Bloat in Dogs? Of course, the ideal situation is your dog never contracting bloat at all, so owners should do everything they can to help prevent it. According to experts, such as those at the ASPCA , to help prevent bloat, you should: Feed your dog two or three small meals each day, rather than one big one. Put food bowls on the floor, rather than using a raised feeder, unless otherwise advised by your vet. Avoid feeding your dog too soon before or after exercising. Use a slow feeder bowl if you have a dog who bolts their food. Encourage normal water consumption with meals. Limit the risk of bloating by taking the preventative steps above, but always be on the lookout for symptoms and take your dog to the vet at the first sign of any trouble. Bloat in Labradors: Risks, Symptoms and Prevention was last modified: January 9th, by Lauren Corona 1 comment Lissette June 30, at pm Thank you so much for taking the time to thoroughly explain this important on Labrador Retriever bloat. I had an 11 year old huge Chocolate Labrador Retriever big chested who developed bloat. At the time I never head of it. After 5 hours later, she was operated and saved!! Unfortunately, my 6 year old medium size Chocolate Labrador Retriever not big chested did not make it. Prior to the visit to the Vet, she was happy and playful. As soon as we entered the Vet Office, she was very shaken and scared. The Vet never tested her yet he administered a Depo-Medrol for infection since we mentioned she had mild shortness of breath which had been going on for many months. She died 15 minutes after that vaccine! It was later determined she had Bloat. It breaks my heart that she was only 6 years old :. Andorra and Spain Puppies are often a bit round at this age - it's because there is a lot of internal organs etc to fit inside a small package, so things aren't quite in the right place yet! Has he recently eaten or had a big drink? That makes a big difference, and their tummies often get very round with eating. Again, it's just because there's not much space inside - and it's why you should feed small meals more frequently, instead of fewer larger meals. If he doesn't seem uncomfortable or out of sorts, I'd give it an hour or so and see if it goes down, otherwise give you vet a ring to see what they say. If he starts acting out of character, though, get him straight to the vet without delay. When I took Shadow to the vet after he'd gorged himself when he was 6 months, the vet tapped his stomach with her fingers and listened - she said that if the pup is blown up and it sounds hollow, then it's a real worry, but if they sound solid, it's probably nothing more than over-eating. Obviously, though, if you're worried, don't take my word for it, ask your vet. Tweet on Twitter Bloat in dogs occurs when the stomach of the dog becomes dangerously distended and even rotated. Canine bloat is a term used to describe gastric distension in dogs. This refers to a condition where the stomach swells in an abnormal way. When gastric distention is accompanied by the twisting or rotating of the stomach itself. GDV is the condition we are particularly concerned with when we talk about bloat in Labs. Now the dog may no longer be able to vomit. The twisting, plus the pressure of the large stomach on other internal organs, sets in motion a chain of events. Ultimately, this will end in the death of the dog if prompt veterinary treatment is not initiated. Once blood supply and therefore oxygen has been cut off to your dogs stomach, cells begin to die. There is no coming back from this stage. So, every minute counts when it comes to seeking medical attention. Having said that, it is also true that if you act quickly enough you have a good chance of saving your dog. If a vet can perform surgery in good time your dog has a hugely increased chance of surviving. What Causes Bloat in Dogs Some breeds are more susceptible to bloat than others, and unfortunately Labradors are fairly high up on this list. Any dog can bloat. Larger, deeper chested dogs as well as middle age or older dogs are the most susceptible. The causes of bloat in Labs and other dogs are not certain. We do know that there is a genetic element. That is to say, bloat in dogs is more likely when a close family member has suffered from it. Dogs that have recovered from bloat should not be bred from. This will reduce the likelihood of passing the tendency to suffer from this horrible condition onto future generations. It will also alleviate the risk of injury to your dog. It is thought that overfeeding, over hydrating and exercising your dog too close to mealtimes could contribute to your dog suffering from bloat. However, some of the sources give conflicting information. It could be caused by an increased amount of air being inhaled in anxious or over exercised dogs, or as a result of a diet which releases too much gas. The AKC state in their webpage on bloat that it typically develops after a dog has eaten a large meal. Or, he has had a big drink or been exercised vigorously after eating. Reducing the Risk of Bloat However, we do have some studies we can look to which give a clearer picture of some practical ways to prevent bloat which might make a very real difference. A study of dogs that suffered from bloat was carried out at Purdue University from to , and found that there were two key factors to avoiding bloat. Prevent Fast Eating In Labradors Labradors are notoriously fast eaters, and so the risk of bloat from their feeding speed makes sense as a contributing factor. Fortunately, there are things you can do to slow down his eating. These have raised bumps or mazes that your dog must navigate with his tongue in order to pick up the individual pieces. However, they are quick to stress that there is no evidence that the dogs want their eating slowed. Feed On Ground Level When a dog stands to eat they put their head and body at an unnatural level, which may allow more air to be taken in during the process. Raised feeders are popular for older and arthritic dogs, so you will need to discuss the potential pros and cons of these with your vets before making a decision. However, if your dog has no other medical ailments to consider, then it would be inadvisable to use a raised feeder due to the potential link with bloat. The Purdue Study The Purdue Study also found some types of dry dog food posed an increased risk of bloat. You can read a summary of the information here. However, with the best will in the world you cannot be certain of preventing a condition. So we must be sure that you know the signs of bloat in dogs, and what to do next if you spot them. Although it is worth bearing in mind that this was just a single study. So, you should be vigilant for any signs of bloat in dogs at all times. Some signs of bloat in dogs may not be so easy to recognise. Unlike many other Labrador stomach problems, bloat does not cause the usual visible external symptoms like vomiting or an upset stomach. In fact, a sign of bloat is the absence of your dog having been sick when he appears to need to be. Symptoms of Bloat The following are symptoms of bloat in dogs. Treating Bloat Quickly Speed is of the essence when it comes to treating bloat. Take him to your veterinary surgery or nearest emergency vet care immediately. Get in the car, and use your car phone or get a friend to make the call whilst you are on your way. Because treatment works best earlier on and the fatality rate of this condition is so high, it really is a case of better safe than sorry. How To Diagnose Bloat In Dogs Although you can spot visible signs of bloat in Labs without testing, your veterinarian will need to carry out a few procedures to be sure that this is the cause of his illness. They will most likely take an x-ray to see whether the stomach is rotated, and then run a lactate test. This will let them know whether cell death, or necrosis, has begun in earnest. When it is advanced past a certain point there is no return for the dog. A moderate score will suggest some damage which may be repairable. If the veterinarian believes that the dog can be saved, they will immediately begin treatment. Dog Bloat Treatment Treat for bloat in Labs involves making sure that they are hydrated with IV fluids, and given something for the pain. Methods of treating bloat can include first feeding a tube down their oesophagus and into the stomach to relieve the air pressure. But these are both also followed by surgery to fix the rotation.
