The mix will vary from pup to pup depending on which of their parents they take after. Sheepadoodles enjoyed a massive boost in popularity when Meryl Davis and her partner Fedor Andreev, both figure skaters, showed off their pet Sheepadoodle, Bilbo Tootie-Rose Baggins on social media. They inherit the best of both parents, making for a remarkable pooch! More about the Poodle Poodles were extremely popular as pets in the past, especially for upper-class ladies. This was due to the small Poodle size which meant that carrying them around was incredibly easy. Interestingly, they were first bred in Germany to help hunt waterfowl. Their popularity has led many dog breeders to conduct experimental crossbreeding, and one of those successful breeding programs was with the Old English Sheepdog a. Poodle More about the Old English Sheepdog Just like the name suggests, Old English Sheepdogs became popular in the s with farmers who used them to herd sheep and to help control other animals on the farm. For centuries training was for rather heavy tasks around the farm. Sheepadoodles have a fascinating history, as do their parents! But why this combination? As mentioned above, first generation Sheepadoodles inherit the intelligence and active nature of sheepdogs, and the low shedding and friendly nature of the Poodle. They can be very gentle and also tend to be quiet around little ones, which is an excellent trait, especially if your baby needs a nap! The perfect pooch indeed! Thankfully not. Even though they are large, you can make it work. If you live in an apartment, you might be pushing it, but if you commit to some serious exercise every day your new furry friend will be just fine! Standard Sheepadoodles are usually medium to large. As mentioned above the standard-sized Sheepadoodle grows to about 60 to 80 pounds 18 to 30 Kg and a maximum of 16 to 22 inches 40 to 55 cm in height. Sometimes, if the Sheepdog parent is huge, then the Sheepadoodle pup can grow quite a bit larger than other pups. One example is Zammy the therapy dog, which you can watch in this video: Also thrown into the mix are Mini Sheepadoodles that are a mix of Mini Poodles and Standard Sheepdogs. They measure under 20 inches 51 cm in height and weigh between 24 to 44 pounds 11 to 20 kg. Miniature Sheepadoodles are also sometimes called a Micro Sheepadoodle. Mini Sheepadoodles are in demand far and wide due to their utterly adorable good looks and charismatic charm. Mini Sheepadoodle 5 Hey Good Looking! Sheepadoodles have sturdy and solid builds, with square or rounded faces and elongation at the snout. The skull has a broad look and appears dome shaped. They also have signature gorgeous low hanging ears, and their eyes are small and set between medium length hair. Coats can be anywhere between straight and curly. Their different colors also make them a hit with potential owners. Sheepadoodles are born black, white or both. Their colors are separated in well-defined spots that can appear randomly on any part of the body. This makes for some adorable looking puppies, some of whom almost look like Panda bears, which make them even more endearing than they already are. Some Sheepadoodles come in white and red, but these usually cost more. There are also Sheepadoodles that are entirely brown or grey, but these are relatively rare. The parents normally determine the color of the pups. As mentioned in the first paragraph the Sheepadoodles have an average lifespan of about 12 to 15 years. How healthy are they? In general, the Sheepadoodle is a robust dog since it comes from two different purebred dogs. However, they may inherit some tendencies from their parents genetically. However, not all Sheepadoodles are hypoallergenic as it depends on the genes they inherit from their parents. They tend to have a short and curly coat like their Poodle parent and as we said before shed very minimally. Trimming the hairs around their ears is also another thing you can do if you want to help prevent ear infections. Watch how training takes place in this video: They can also be taught to be watchdogs as they can recognize strangers and be trained to bark at them. Training is pretty simple and easy to carry out. Sheepadoodles should have a diet that consists of high-quality kibbles. Once in a blue moon, some wet food is a great idea but take it easy on this one as it may lead to your Sheepadoodle becoming overweight. However, being a designer dog, they are allowed into the following organizations:. Black, white, brown, gray, merle Suitable for: Active families, singles, apartments, houses with yards Temperament: Intelligent, friendly, hard-working, sociable, loyal This designer breed is curious, energetic, playful, and loyal. Their sociable personality makes them perfect family pets. They can also get along well in a farm setting. This mixed breed has not been in existence for long, but their parent breeds have. The Old English Sheepdog was developed in the 18th century, and the Poodle was developed in the 15th century. Here is everything that you need to know about the offspring of these two breeds, the Sheepadoodle. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. Sheepadoodle Puppies A post shared by Doodles Vibes doodlesvibes Sheepadoodle puppies are adorable but they grow quickly. There is not much time to learn about this breed once you bring them home because of their quick growth. These dogs are great at hunting, agility , and farm work. They also get along well in family environments. Their energy can become troublesome if these dogs are not exercised daily, though. These good-natured dogs are extremely sociable and friendly. They bond deeply with their human companions and act as protectors whenever necessary. Their easygoing personalities make them easily adaptable to a variety of different circumstances and situations. They are natural herders, which may be evident when they are around children or other animals. Although loyal and sociable, Sheepadoodles can be extremely independent and somewhat stubborn. Therefore, obedience training and a regular exercise schedule are important. The bigger the secured yard that they have to spend time in during the day, the happier that they seem to be. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They may try to herd younger kids, so supervision is usually a good idea until the kids are old and big enough to maintain control of the dog. They are protective of all family members, even the kids, but not aggressively so. These dogs can get along with other dogs if socialization is made a priority while they are puppies. They should be introduced to other dogs early on in life and have an opportunity to explore places like dog parks, where they can learn to properly interact with other animals. Their prey could result in chasing when it comes to being around smaller animals, like cats and squirrels. Here is everything that you need to know about feeding, exercising, training, and grooming your pet Sheepadoodle. They can eat up to 4 cups of commercial dry food each day, depending on how much exercise they get. If unlimited food is available, they can easily eat more than what they require for good health. They should be fed two or three regulated meals each day. These dogs require high-protein nutrition to properly fuel their bodies. Look for food that includes chicken or beef as the first ingredient, and avoid food that includes excessive fillers and artificial ingredients. Fresh berries and veggies such as carrots can be offered occasionally as snacks. Clean water should be available 24 hours a day, both inside and outdoors. Walks of at least an hour each day should be a priority whenever the weather permits. Time spent in a secured yard to play, run, and explore every day is also recommended. When the weather does not allow for outdoor exercise, indoor activities such as hide-and-seek, chase, and time playing with puzzle toys should be offered. Otherwise, nothing should ever take the place of long walks to expel energy. Training should take place in a quiet environment where there will be no distractions. Treats and clickers can help ensure that each training session is successful. After basic obedience commands are learned, training can be practiced in social settings regularly to ensure that the obedience is maintained. The Sheepadoodle can also successfully learn how to hunt waterfowl, herd farm animals, and complete agility courses. The younger the dog is when training begins, the more successful that training is bound to be. Their coats should be brushed daily to get rid of debris that is picked up outside and to keep the fur from tangling up. Some Sheepadoodles require trimming once a month or so to keep the fur from growing over the eyes or getting too long to effectively brush. A de-shedding comb can be used during the spring and summer months to keep shedding to a minimum. Sheepadoodles should get enough outdoor exercise to keep their nails naturally trimmed. Their teeth can be brushed regularly to ensure healthy gums and clean breath. Alternatively, dental chews can be offered. Regular visits to the veterinarian, proper exercise, and a healthy diet can help stave off these problems as your pooch ages. Minor Conditions. Life Span Did You Know? A Sheepadoodle can be an F1 or an F1b. F1 Sheepadoodles are a first generation, which means their parents are an Old English Sheepdog and a Poodle. They are often confused, at least in name, with Shepadoodles, but they are not the same dog. Shepadoodles are a cross between a Poodle and a German Shepherd. Sheepadoodles are beautiful dogs inside and out. They tend to be extremely friendly and absolutely love their families. Because they are mixed with a Poodle, there is a chance that their coat will be low-shedding. Their kind disposition and energetic personality make them a good fit for families. Although they are not purebred dogs, and therefore are not recognized by the AKC, they are recognized by other dog registries and clubs. In addition to making a great family pet, Sheepadoodles also make great therapy dogs. A well-socialized Sheepadoodle is an intelligent and active dog who tends to be naturally friendly, calm, and sociable. They tend to get along well with other dogs, pets, and children. Sheepadoodles tend to be expressive and intuitive. They seem to innately know how to be gentle and quiet with younger children. They are a combination of a companion and working dog that loves their family and is devoted to them. This dog breed is moderately adaptable. Due to their exercise needs, they tend to be a better fit for homes with large yards. They can adapt to apartment living, as long as they get plenty of serious exercise every day. They tend to do best in moderate and cooler climates, but can adapt to other types. As with most dogs, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they love their families, have a lot of energy, and get bored easily, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Because the Sheepadoodle is a mixed breed, they can inherit none of the health issues of their parent breeds or can inherit the health issues from one or both of them. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask the breeder about the health and genetic history of both parents and about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a large dog breed, a Sheepadoodle is also at risk for bloat like their parents. Bloat in dogs can quickly become dangerous, especially if gastric torsion occurs ie: the stomach flips. The Sheepadoodle is a highly intelligent dog that is eager to please their owners. This tends to make them obedient, fast learners who are a good fit for owners of any experience level. Although they are alert and natural watchdogs, well-socialized Sheepadoodles tend to be quiet and will have to be trained to bark at strangers. Because they seek the approval of their owners, they tend to be sensitive. Harsh scolding or tones can hurt your bond with them and could cause them to be withdrawn or unresponsive to training. They respond best to positive ongoing training methods that are consistent. The low-shedding coat is one of the reasons why there are so many Poodle mixes. Sheepadoodle coats can vary from straight to curly and coat colors can be any combination of those common in Poodles. This means you can have a Sheepadoodle that is black, brown, gray, white, or a mix of colors. They only need to be bathed as needed, so having it done while at the groomer is usually a good fit. Floppy ears are more likely to trap dirt, debris, and moisture, which makes them more prone to ear infections. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. It is also one of the most preventable. By implementing good dental care for dogs early on, you can decrease the tartar buildup that causes gum disease and tooth decay. A Sheepadoodle is a high-energy dog breed. They need plenty of exercise and structured exercise routines to be happy and healthy. Their high energy and intelligence mean they need a lot of daily exercise and plenty of mental stimulation to avoid boredom. Giving them a job to do can help satisfy their working dog tendencies. They also tend to love water, so going swimming with your dog can be a good activity. Because they are also sociable, taking a trip to the dog park could be another great way to get rid of excess energy. Just make sure you keep activities low impact until puppies finish growing to avoid damaging developing joints. Fully-grown Sheepadoodles usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Generally, Sheepadoodles 20 inches or shorter are considered Mini Sheepadoodles. Sheepadoodles generally live for years on average. It wasn't until the mid-century that breeders ventured out and bred for chocolate and yellow Labradors as well. Even now, many people both in the U. Black Labs are versatile dogs that can fit into almost any lifestyle. They do very well with children. The breed is usually tolerant of climbing and tugging by small children and love to be spoiled. This confident yet tender pup is social and easy-going around new people. Black Lab Puppies Health Considerations Though generally very healthy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around 10 to 12 years — our Black Labs for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Black Lab puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones. Hip and elbow dysplasia are both hereditary conditions that can cause joint pain and mobility issues. Allergies are relatively common in dogs, and Black Labs are no exception. Symptoms can include itchiness, redness, and hair loss. Exercise-induced collapse is a relatively rare condition that can be triggered by strenuous activity. Symptoms include weakness, dizziness, and collapse. While these health concerns can be daunting, many of them can be effectively managed with proper care. Finding a Black Lab puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. They are also one of the most popular breeds in the United States, in part due to their beautiful black coat. And while the coat does require some maintenance, it is relatively easy to care for. Weekly brushing will help to remove dead hair and keep the coat looking shiny and healthy. Labs also benefit from occasional baths, which will help to remove any dirt or debris that has become trapped in their fur. Meet Black Lab Puppies for Sale. Life Span Did You Know? Black Labrador Retrievers, or just Black Labs, are a common coat color variation of one of the most popular dog breeds. The Black Labrador Retriever is not necessarily a separate dog breed. Black Labs are still Labrador Retrievers; they just have a distinct coat color that is a specifically-bred characteristic. Like other Labrador Retrievers, Black Labs are energetic, playful, and affectionate dogs that make great family companions. Although they are active and energetic dogs, Labs are also known for their gentleness and patience with other family members. Well-socialized Black Labs tend to get along well with just about everyone including children, other dogs, pets, and even strangers. They are considered one of the kid-friendly dog breeds. As one of the most affectionate dog breeds , Black Labs thrive on attention, especially from their favorite humans. They are happiest when they are spending time with their families and receiving affection and attention from them. Despite their high energy, Labs are highly adaptable dogs. They do tend to be better suited to homes with fenced yards where they can run, but they also adapt well to apartments provided they get enough daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation. They do well in just about any climate, but are sensitive to heat and extreme cold like many dog breeds. As such, they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Black Labrador Retriever can include elbow dysplasia , hip dysplasia, heart disease, hereditary myopathy, cataracts, and progressive retinal atrophy. Another potential health concern is EIC exercise-induced collapse , which can occur in young adult Labs and has a genetic link. Because carriers can be identified by DNA tests, it is recommended that breeders test for them. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you talk to the breeder about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a large, deep-chested dog breed, Labrador Retrievers are at a higher risk for bloat. Labrador Retrievers are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. Although their high energy and puppylike exuberance can sometimes be a challenge, they are intelligent dogs that are eager to please. As long as training is kept consistent and focused on positive rewards and praise, novice owners still tend to do well with Black Labs. Puppy training classes are always an option and offer plenty of benefits aside from training too. Black Labs have a short, water-resistant double coat that sheds year-round and sheds heavier as seasons change. Depending on how active your Black Lab is and what they get into, they may need a bath more often, especially if they are swimming a lot. Weekly ear checks and careful cleanings when needed help prevent ear infections. Good dental care for dogs , like daily brushing and cleanings at the vet when needed, can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. As one of the most active dog breeds , a Black Labrador Retriever will need a lot of daily activity to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are a minimum. Your Black Lab will likely be up for more activity if you are. One of the facts about Labrador Retrievers is that they have an extended puppyhood. They tend to maintain a puppylike exuberance until they are years old. Although they do tend to mellow out as they get older, they are still active, energetic, and playful dogs. Once they are fully grown, you can try other things like hiking, running, dock diving, and more to find other activities you and your Black Lab can enjoy together. Fully-grown Black Labrador Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Black Labs generally live for years on average. Black Labrador Retrievers came before the also-popular Chocolate Lab. All modern Chocolate Labs can be traced back to three Black Labs in the s. It was the December issue of .Featured Black Labrador Retriever Article.

Are you looking for some handsome boy companionship? Great news, your search is over! In addition to my very dapper good-boy looks, I am also an avid ball player and dignified goofball. You may be thinking how in the world I can posses such conflicting personality traits.I love being outdoors; you could even say that I am easily amused. Whether it be playing fetch to my heart's desire or going for a long trail walk I would probably make a pretty good jogging buddy too. Being a German Shepherd, I am one of the 'brighter crayons in the box'. In my free time I like to work with the staff and volunteers to brush up on my basic command skills. They are always telling me what a smart guy I am! I assume that's what they are saying, judging by the treats they give me, I am doing good! Proper introductions to establish a trusting, positive, first impression is a must with me. I am an old fashioned kind of guy. I know I am irresistibly handsome, but I appreciate getting to know each other before getting all touchy-feely. Because of this, I would be happiest in a home without children or other wondering hands. I do love affection and a good ear rub.I also want to be your only side-kick, I am not a social butterfly with other pets, I would much rather hangout with just my person. I have a pretty strong prey drive to keep the stray cat and pesky squirrels out of our yard too.A job I take very seriously. As a result, white spotting is becoming less uncommon among purebred Golden Retrievers. Since Golden Retrievers are descendants of the St. But Goldens carry other genes that dominate their golden coat colors. The St. These markings were carried down through the generations of the first Labrador Retrievers. While white chest markings or tufts of white still happen occasionally, it does not mean that your dog is not purebred. An exception is the whitening or greying of the face or body due to senior years. I was kind of upset to see them go because I thought they were rather cute. The white tips of the paws will usually disappear as the pup grows, similar to white markings on the chest. The white paws will be barely noticeable if your Golden is a light cream shade. If you are looking to put your dog in the conformation ring, he would be classed as a fault and unsuitable for showing. Purebred Golden Retrievers can have white spots or sporadic markings. But Goldens have dominant coat color genes and are usually seen in different shades of gold only. Purebred Golden Retrievers can have white markings, but it is not as common an occurrence as it used to be a few decades ago as it has been gradually bred out of the lines. Purebred Golden Retrievers can have some white in the extremities, such as the tip of the tail, muzzle, chest, and tip of the paws. The most common region for white markings among Goldens is the chest which is why even the AKC accepts a little white in the chest area. This condition is known as residual white and is occasionally brought on by a slight sickness in the mother. So what is a mismarked Golden Retriever? A mismarked Golden Retriever is one with colors outside the accepted standard golden coat, but these are rare. They do not mean that your pup has mixed ancestry. Mismarks are more common in Labradors; you can see some examples from this breeder here. Breeders often sell mismarked puppies for a lower price than their unicolored siblings, and they are just as friendly, intelligent, and loving as any other Golden Retriever. On the contrary, some breeders will refer to any mismarking as extremely rare and try to charge more. Are you looking to buy something for your dog? Make sure to check out my favorite dog gear below. White markings on these dogs was more common in the past. Over the years, breeders have done their best to create all-golden coloured retriever dogs. It can be difficult to do that though, as breeders have little control over whether the white markings will show up, and may not even be seen when the dogs are puppies. Your golden retriever dog will not be susceptible to diseases just because they have a slightly different coloured coat. The genes for diseases are not tied in with coat colours on a dog. And a few markings will make your dog unique and easily identifiable. All they care about is spending time with you, and being happy and healthy. White markings on a golden retriever are normal, and are not any indication that your puppy is a mixed breed. Your golden retriever may even have other colours and markings mixed in too! About fifty years ago, Golden Retriever dogs had many markings on their coats. Over the years, breeders have done their best to create fully golden dogs. Even two purebred parents can create puppies that have white markings on them. There is a myth that if Golden Retrievers have white markings on their coats that they have been bred with a Collie. Most of the time this is simply not true. In fact, if these two dogs are bred together, they are going to create puppies that are of a darker colour, sometimes even black. These collie retriever mixes are completely different. There are actually three different types of golden retriever dogs. These are based on region and are called American, Canadian, and English. Each of these types will still has mainly gold in their coats, but they can still each look different too. You should also be aware that puppies may have different colours in their coats that change as they grow and get older. Or, you may want to wait and adopt an adult dog instead, as you can then see their wide range of golden coats with white markings. If you have your heart set on a golden retriever with white markings, then no, not all golden retrievers will have them. It is rare but they do occur. Your chances are higher if you adopt a dog from Canada or the USA though. The white markings will generally be within their fur and on any part of their bodies. This often happens during the winter, when it gets colder. This breed makes a great companion for the entire family. You may be surprised to learn that they can have different markings on their golden coats which is totally normal, much like a tabby cat has different patterns too. More 50 shades of Golden.
Learn more about our puppies When you bring home a Prairie Doodles puppy, your puppy has already received hours and hours of important socialization. We introduce each puppy to a wide variety of people, sounds, smells and scenarios, which helps to create balanced dogs who are inquisitive, adaptable and social. In addition, all of our puppies are litter box trained to eliminate on wood pellets. We love raising balanced, happy dogs. Meet us What people are saying about us "Gail at Prairie Doodles has been wonderful. She has always been available to answer questions, and now, even years after we brought our dogs home, I know that she really cares about the families who have her dogs. I recommend her to everyone who asks me where my dogs are from — and lots of people ask! He loves outdoor activities, and is often hiking or snowshoeing in the mountains on weekends. He has a gentle and loving temperament, and is so great around his little human brother, Aiden. We receive so many compliments and questions about Enzo. Thank you to Prairie Doodles for our beloved puppy! Gail is a wonderful match-maker; we couldn't have asked for a better puppy. He has the most easy-going, calm and goofy personality that charms everyone who meets him. Our friends and family fight over who gets to babysit him when we go away. It is owned and operated by myself, Wendy Weber and my husband, Richard Weber. We are an active family who love the outdoors and spending time hiking, running, cross country skiing, gardening and having our dogs by our side. We have been breeding for 16 years. We ensure each puppy is well socialized, happy and healthy before allowing them to go to their forever homes. These dogs are extremely smart, loyal and good in nature, love people and other animals. Life expectancy is approximately 15 years. These dogs do require some daily exercise, but are a more laidback breed. They are a fun loving breed with a minimal shedding coat. The F1b Goldendoodle is usually nonshedding, good for people who have allergies. They absolutely "love their family", and as long as they receive some daily exercise, they will be happy to lay around by your side. Because the Poodle is one of the most intellegent dog breeds, and the Retriever is eager to please, the Goldendoodle breed is extremely intelligent and easy to train. Goldendoodles require frequent combing to prevent matting, and the occasional haircut will be necessary. This is another great dog for novice owners! Because Australian Shephards and Poodles are two of the most intelligent dog breeds, the Aussiedoodle is exceptionally smart, and therefore very easy to train, making excellent service and therapy dogs, as well as family pets. Aussiedoodles need to be combed frequently to prevent matting, and will require the occasional haircut. Australian shepherds are an active breed, and therefore the Aussiedoodle will require daily exercise. Aussiedoodles are excellent companion dogs that are very friendly. F1b Aussiedoodle is a cross of the f1 Aussiedoodle with a Purebred Poodle, producing a curlier coat and making this 2nd generation pup nonshedding, great for families who suffer from allergies. They do require regular groomings, approx per year. Contact us for details! Hey at my age I get to be bat crazy if I so choose! We've had some crazy times in our 16 years. Our first 9 we lived with a hoarder. Now I can tell you that was NOT fun! We were kept in stacked cages and there wasn't much room and it was FILTHY and when someone pottied above us well you can guess what happened : Then the police came and got all of us and that was awesome! They took us to the shelter and while other dogs seemed scared to be there we were pretty excited because we got nice soft, clean beds and yummy food and they gave us this warm thing called a bath and WOW we smelled really "pretty"! Gidgit and I were adopted by an older couple and although they were nice they didn't fix are wobbly knees so we have some "issues" with them but we've learned to adjust and we are too old for surgery now. The couple started having health problems and they brought us back to the shelter : Lucky for us the awesome Rescue lady at the shelter scooped us up and called 2nd Chance who didn't care how old we were and now we are living with pups and having a great time! Tomorrow we are having a dental. I'm not sure what that means but our foster mommy says our breath smells "stinky poo" I don't think that is a good smell cause when she says it her face gets all weird and wrinkly! Well I'm going to get ready for bed since I have a big day tomorrow. Wish us luck! Considering Bella McKenzie for adoption? Please read entire bio before contacting us. Thank you. According to rankings by the American Kennel Club in , this breed is the number 2 in the option for families to buy amongst a selection of dog breeds. These bulldogs have a long history stemming from their original use for bull baiting in Britain. Many people still see these as an old English bulldog and a cultural icon, and it is one of the most popular dogs you will see in England. They do have fierce determination, persistence and an underrated strength, and these are part of why many people love them so much for a family companion. British bulldogs naturally have wide heads and shoulders, flat faces covered with skin folds and thick flaps, and a shorter and higher muzzle than many other dogs. Their thick facial skin folds are also present under their neck, and their pointed teeth and endless snorting constitute a significant factor in the fierce and sometimes scary look they have become known for. So why should you go for an English bulldog? What exactly makes them so special and wonderful anyway? Well, here are a few things we love about this breed of bulldogs. The first and most important benefit to us is that English bulldogs are very good guard dogs. Despite their relatively small size, these dogs are not to be underestimated. Their aggressive nature from their history of bull baiting has been passed down from generation to generation of bulldogs, making them mean fighters to intruders. These dogs do not hesitate to leap into action and defend their owners when there is a threat. Another big benefit is that they are family-friendly and safe to be around your children. Despite the strength and aggression they show to outsiders, you can be sure that your well-trained English bulldogs are perfect family friends that can be around your children with low chances of danger. This very tolerant breed loves to keep a quiet and watchful eye over its owners and is very good at informing you when they sense something wrong. Their short, stubby legs also make for some very funny moments, such as their clumsy efforts to climb onto surfaces, like your couch or their dramatic pouts and faces. English bulldogs have a natural pranking streak that makes you laugh effortlessly. Coming home to unwind and having an English bulldog waiting for you to home is a definite stress reliever and mood elevator. Like a typical Poodle cut, this version features short hair on the face and body with fluffy legs and a fluffy tail. This haircut does require quite a bit of maintenance but is a chic, classic style that looks great on curly dogs. That is why this cut is also known as the Summer Cut. With this haircut, the coat is cut short all over but has a little extra length on top and around the tail. This is perfect for very active dogs and requires little maintenance. The kennel cut is quite popular among Standard Poodles and is also favored by Goldendoodle owners. The lamb cut features a smooth, rounded style free of corners or sharp edges. Dogs of other breeds may also have this style. This haircut is meant to make your dog look like a lion with shaved legs, shoulders, and tail but with a fluffy head, chest and stomach. This is a very high maintenance style that takes a lot of skill to achieve and daily brushing to maintain. As the name suggests, the mohawk cut leaves your pet with a fluffy mohawk that typically runs the entire length of the back, starting from the top of their head. The rest of their coat would be cut short in the kennel cut mentioned above. You can have a lot of fun with the length and thickness of the mohawk part of this cut. And some daring pet owners even decide to die the mohawk some bright colors to make their pet stand out from the crowd. Dino Cut Source: doodledoods. The thick coat of the Golden Poodle mix allows for some unique shaping, and with this style, your groomer would almost shave your dog in the kennel cut while keeping small blocks of hair down their back to look like Stegosaurus. This is not an exceptionally stylish cut but may be necessary for various reasons. These could include sending your dog in for a big operation, getting rid of extreme mats, or helping your dog survive the sweltering summer heat. With this haircut, you have the option to style your pooch when you want or leave it shaggy and natural to show off those gorgeous golden locks. Other Haircut Ideas for Your Golden Retriever-Poodle Mix When looking at your Goldendoodle, you may opt for a haircut that emphasizes one of its particularly adorable features. This haircut includes trimming the hair on the face and ears to the same length all around, giving your dog a very rounded appearance. This style is often paired with the teddy bear cut. To create this style, you would trim the hair around the face shorter, leaving a fluffy part on the head to look like your dog has a top knot. You can even add colorful clips or a hairband to style the look. This will help keep their hair under control and prevent any tangles or mats from forming. Here the top of the legs is trimmed short while the bottom features long flared hair. While this look can look amazing, it is pretty difficult to maintain, particularly if your dog loves swimming or running in the mud. The nails should stay concealed. Pom Poms Harking back to their Poodle heritage, pom poms look very cute on Goldendoodles. Pom poms are best added on the tail or the ankles, with the rest of the leg and the feet clean-shaven. With this look, the length of the hair on the feet should exactly match the length of hair on the leg. The ends of the feed should be rounded while hiding the nails. With this look, the hair is cut short all around the feet, including the ankle and the nails. This is a classic look that is often combined with the puppy or lamb cut. You can then brush it to create a beautiful plume. Trimming your dog short on the rest of his body will help to emphasize his beautiful tail. To achieve this cut, you need to keep the base of the tail trimmed short and the rest of the tail hair long, tapering it to the tip. Frequently Asked Questions Source: suwaneeanimalhospital. The first step would be to uncover the eyes using blunt-tipped scissors. You need to trim the hair around in a triangular shape carefully. Here you can have fun playing with the shape. Finally, you will want to trip the ears, snipping off any extra hair from the bottom of the ears, being extra careful not to cut the ears themselves. To see if the ears match, you can pull both ears gently towards the nose to check their length. Is it okay to shave a Goldendoodle? You may have to shave your Golden Retriever-Poodle mix occasionally, especially if you live somewhere warm or if you have to deal with mats and tangles. When should a Doodle puppy get its first haircut? When your Goldendoodle puppy is about 16 weeks or four months old, this is a good time to take him for his first haircut. That said, you can introduce your puppy to the grooming process before this through bathes and regular brushing. How much does it cost to groom this breed? As Goldendoodles are typically quite large dogs, they usually cost towards the higher end of the scale. Rather than going to the parlor, you can also find a mobile or home-grooming service that comes to you, although these are usually more expensive. Those who neglect their pets will end up with a Goldendoodle with a corded or matted coat, which can be painful as well as uncomfortable. Once matts and cords begin to develop, they can be very hard to remove, and you may need to shave your dog to get rid of them. You may want to initially give him some treats during brushing, so he sees the experience as a positive one. How can I find the best Goldendoodle groomer in my area? Aug 2, Share Are you a proud owner of a Goldendoodle? One of the things that makes a Goldendoodle so magnificent is their unique curly coats. There are many different styles out there that will fit your Goldendoodle and give them a personality all of their own. Goldendoodles have thick, dense coats which can be a total drag in the hot summer months. But their coats are going to be significantly shorter than normal. However, there are some huge advantages to this trim other than heat considerations. Most dogs look good with a puppy cut; however, the fluffy nature of their coats brings out their charm in this do. Like the kennel cut, this hairstyle is of uniform length all over their body. It also helps give your pup a youthful appearance no matter their age. Instead of uniformly trimming their face, the area around their snoot is a bit longer against the backdrop of the rest of their face. This gives them a unique, playful look. The puppy cut does have some added benefits besides just making your pooch cute as a button. The short length helps them to prevent mattes and tangles. However, it leaves enough hair to prevent them from completely freezing out when it gets colder. They are half-Poodle, after all! Poodle cuts can often come without warning as well. Even though you may have a specific hairstyle in mind, your groomer may think otherwise. With a Goldendoodle, mattes can run relatively deep due to their thick curly fur. This keeps your dog happy and mat-free without ruining their experience at the groomers. And with a Poodle cut, your pup will generally receive a clean low-cut face, back, belly, and sides. But the tops of their head, ears, tail, and legs can normally maintain a thicker, fluffy appearance as that where less matting will occur. While many Goldendoodle owners love the Poodle cut, others are less enthused by it. This particular hairstyling tends to make your dog look much older and elegant. Their legs are left a little longer and shaped for a puffier, rounder look. And while the lamb cut comes in at our most radical clip so far, the next style takes things to a whole new level. Lion Cut The lion cut is one of those Goldendoodle haircut styles that can set your dog apart from the rest. Normally given to smaller dogs such as the Pomeranian, the lion cut does exactly what it sounds like—makes your pooch look like a lion! This is done by recreating the shaggy mane of a lion and its signature pom tail. You can also customize the lion cut with specific details. It gives them a bit more body and the illusion of a more muscular stature. This style is achieved by giving your pup a kennel cut but leaving a fluffy mohawk that runs down their back starting from the top knot. You can have it run the width of their topknot; however, a common tactic is to shave the sides down and make it just a tad narrower. Is it going to end near their shoulder blades? Or go down their back a bit? The most fun part about a mohawk cut is the colors that you can choose to dye it! Sure, you can go without, and keep it their natural color. Dino Cut This is easily the most ridiculous Goldendoodle haircut styles on our list. The coat of the Goldendoodle seems almost too perfect for unique stylings such as this. Their dense coats allow for bold cuts and shaping. Just be careful when finding a stylist to do this type of cut. The full shave is exactly what it sounds like. From tip to tail, your Goldendoodle will be completely stripped of their coat. By giving your pup a full shave, you can remove all of those nasty mats and other coat clumps. This allows you to start anew and style as you see fit in the future. This can also be a summer option for those who live in extreme heat or tropical climates. Conclusion: Goldendoodle Haircuts Not all of the Goldendoodle haircut styles found on this list are meant for every dog. However, you know your dog better than anyone else. This will give your pup a brand new hairstyle but is also great for hot climates. Goldendoodle Round Face Cut Round face cuts are perfect for Goldendoodles as they have small and cute faces.
