All of which Labradoodles are at risk of. However, as Labradoodles tend to inherit the health issues of both Labs and Poodles, this option might work well for your Labradoodle. Naturally, responsible dog food brands do not include these ingredients, anyway. Related Content. However, there are a few issues with Instinct Dog Food that outweigh the benefits. The first thing we noticed is a significant lack of raw freeze-dried chicken bits, which is disappointing considering how expensive this brand is compared to others. Another problem is the inconsistent quality that this recipe has faced with multiple recipe changes in the past few years. Image Credit: litthouse, Pixabay Important Things to Consider There are important factors to consider when buying dog food for your Labradoodle that will influence your decision. Here are some things to consider: Protein Sources Protein allergies can cause skin irritation and itching, as well as other serious side effects. When looking for dog food, make sure it contains a protein source your dog can have. Cost Cost is always something to keep in mind. While premium dog food brands may have all-natural ingredients, there are value-priced brands that still maintain high levels of quality. Before going out and buying the expensive stuff, think about the long-term cost of the food. Check the labels to make sure all essential daily nutrients are there for a complete and balanced diet. Lastly, double-check with your veterinarian before starting a new dog food. Is kibble, cans, raw or homemade food better? Swapping Puppy Food Brands Moving into his or her new home is a challenging and exciting time for your Labradoodle puppy. Keep feeding what your pup is used to for at least two weeks. Then, slowly start mixing in the new food you have chosen for your pup. Labradoodle Puppy Diets Puppies have lots of growing to do. This means that they need more of certain minerals and nutrients for example calcium and phosphorus for bone growth. Your labradoodle pup will also need a higher amount of good quality protein. This is definitely not the case, though. This—among other things—can cause joint problems, such as hip dysplasia. Labradoodles are a cross between two breeds that are both already at high risk of developing hip dysplasia. The most important thing of all is to avoid overfeeding a Labradoodle puppy, as we will see later in this article. This is called hypoglycemia. Generally, a feeding schedule for your Labradoodle pup can look like this: 2 — 4 months: 4 meals daily 4 — 6 months: 3 meals daily 6 — 8 months: 2 — 3 meals daily Older than 8 months: 2 meals daily. Just make sure to divide the total daily amount onto multiple feedings. You can make slight adjustments to these amounts if your pup is looking a little slim or chunky. The number of calories your pup needs will also change as he or she gets older and heavier. There are a couple of different options out there. Commercial dog foods offer complete and balanced nutrition for your growing pup — this means that they have all the right nutrients in all the right amounts and ratios. If a puppy is fed an inappropriate diet, this could lead to long-lasting growth defects or other malnutrition diseases. Feeding a Labradoodle Puppy Kibble Kibble is the most popular type of dog food out there. There are only two things you need to pay attention to when choosing kibble: It should be designed specifically for puppies, and it should be high-quality. Research shows that higher-priced dog foods tend to have higher nutrient digestibility than lower-priced kibble — so it might be worth spending a bit more. Choose a kibble that contains a meat protein source as the first ingredient, and steer clear of ingredients like corn, soy, and cereals. Due to its high water content, the aromas and taste of the meat unfold better, making wet food the most palatable food there is. This comes at a bit of a cost, though: Wet food tends to be more expensive than kibble, and of course it spoils more easily. To get the best of both worlds of commercial dog foods, you can combine or alternate between kibble and wet food. The BARF diet consists of lots of raw meat and bones, as well as some veg and fruit. Supporters of raw feeding think that it will make your dog healthier, although there is no solid evidence for this yet. Raw meats are often contaminated with bacteria such as Salmonella or Campylobacter. These bacteria could potentially cause diseases in your pup. However, this is extremely rare, as the digestive tract most dogs can handle these bugs just fine. This means that there is a lot less danger of bacterial infections from raw meats. Keep in mind that cooking for a dog is not the same as cooking for yourself. Avoid spices, onions, garlic, cooking oils, and too much salt. These are dogs that will always want more food and are prone to obesity. It can help to space out meals or add one or two feedings a day if your dog is constantly hungry. Another option is to make your dog work for small amounts of food throughout the day — be it with puppy training, food balls, or puzzles. The possibilities are endless. Fruits and vegetables Labradoodles can eat Dairy If your Labradoodle is not lactose intolerant, he can eat some dairy foods in moderation. Dairy foods provide protein, calcium, vitamin D, A, B12, zinc, magnesium, and selenium. They build strong bones, reduce the risk of diabetes, and may improve heart health. Experimenting with small amounts of dairy foods is best to see what your dog can handle. Some dogs have trouble digesting milk but can enjoy small pieces of cheese or a blob or two of plain yogurt. My dog loves small chunks of cheese but cannot tolerate even a small spoonful of heavy cream — although she is okay with some milk. World of Dogz Commercial Dog Food Aside from the foods listed above, you can also feed your Labradoodle commercial dog food. Labradoodles can eat dry, wet, semi-dry food technically wet, too , raw, dehydrated, or freeze-dried food. However, you must be careful not to select a food package for a different breed with macro nutritional requirements other than Labradoodles. The most remarkable thing about commercial dog food is that it is far less expensive than homemade dog food and takes much less time to prepare, store, and feed. Labradoodles cannot eat chocolate, macadamia nuts, black walnuts, onion, garlic, grapes, or avocado. Standard market-packed sardines are the safest fish for dogs. Even onion powder in a broth can have this effect. Garlic Garlic can also make your dog anemic. Make sure any food you prepare contains no garlic flavor. Chocolate Theobromine and caffeine in chocolate and chocolate-adjacent products are toxic to dogs. Ensure you choose an organic brand. Nuts Some nuts can lead to weakness, vomiting, and tremors. Macadamia and black walnuts are the worst at this. Other varieties are also too high in fat. Avocado The avocado skin can result in vomiting and diarrhea, so your Labradoodle should be kept away from this fruit. Your dog can OD on alcohol. Sugar Dogs love sweet treats, but if you feed a sugar-rich diet, they will get fat. Yeast Dough If you bake bread at home, keep your dog away from unbaked dough. It can ferment in the stomach causing alcohol toxicosis, and the yeast can rise in the gut, causing a severe blockage. The first is to sit down and curate a Labradoodle diet that dodges the above. The second is to simply opt for packaged dog food. Specific fruits can be toxic to your Labradoodle — especially grapes and starfruit. You can feed your dog veggies — yet garlic and onion can be problematic. You can provide your dog fish — but not if it is completely raw. However, organic food is healthier than extruded kibble cooked at high temperatures which reduces its nutritional value. On the other hand, packaged dog food is easy to get, feed, and store. Wet Dog Food If your Labradoodle turns his nose up at dry kibble, you can try wet dog food as it contains much higher moisture content than dry food. Some larger dogs like it, whereas others prefer a bit of crunch. Take note, though, that canned wet food can be expensive for dogs the size of Labradoodles, as you will need to provide much more. Ensure you check the protein content, as wet food contains a lot of water. Dry and Wet Mix This is one of the most widely preferred Labradoodle food types, and you get the best of both worlds. Most Doodles who dislike dry or wet food like a wet and dry mix. Adding a few scoops of wet food to dry food changes the texture and palatability of the food, making it enticing to your dog. You can also add water to dry dog food making it easier to digest and more appetizing, especially if you have a fussy eater or a dog with general appetite loss due to illness. This gives your dog added variety — but remember to adjust the calories accordingly. You may also consider semi-moist dog food. You can use one of countless dog chow recipes to produce homemade dog food. Some dog owners enjoy home cooking for their dogs as it gives them complete control of what they feed them. However, preparing a homemade diet can also be expensive and is very time-consuming. Check out the directory of certified vet nutritionists from the American College of Veterinary Nutrition to help you find one in your area. Raw Dog Food Of course, if you grasp the idea of feeding chow made from leftover meat, you can always get your Labradoodle a prime Wagyu steak. A raw food diet consists of raw meat and organs mixed in — and raw bones. This method of feeding your dog has grown in popularity in recent years. You can prepare a raw diet at home, similar to a home-cooked meal except raw , or buy pre-prepared complete and balanced raw food, which is more convenient. While weighing up your options, you might want to consider the price of feeding a raw diet. Dehydrated Dog Food Dehydrated dog food also known as air-dried is often confused with dry dog food because it is technically dry. However, you must add water to get the food into the shape it is intended to be served. A dehydrated doggy diet is a healthy and minimally processed feeding option as it uses a low-heat and gentle drying method. It combines the convenience of dry food with the nutritional benefits of raw. It is easier to store and far more portable, but it can be costly. Freeze-Dried Dog Food Freeze-dried dog food is prepared at the factory and brought into its wet form, then freeze-dried into solids that dissolve in the water. It is dehydrated at a lower temperature. Once the food is put in a sealed package, it can take years to degrade because there is no moisture for microorganisms to survive. When you buy freeze-dried dog food, it is still raw. For example, a Labrador mixed with a Standard Poodle will need far more food than a much smaller Lab mixed with a Toy Poodle. A smaller adult female needs 1. A Labradoodle puppy needs 12 — 16 ounces of food per day divided into 3 meals initially and then 2 meals at 6 months old. Labradoodles tend to control their weight pretty well. However, some dogs may be food-motivated and greedy, especially if they carry the POMC mutated gene , which is responsible for an increased appetite in Labradors. Labradoodle Feeding Schedule You should consider the energy your dog expends during the day when creating a healthy feeding schedule for them. Mini Labradoodles, for example, will burn off energy more quickly than the standard variety. However, it is advised to offer one cup of dry dog food or its equivalent and then wait eight hours before feeding another cup to avoid canine bloat. When your Labradoodle is a puppy, you must split his intake into 3 or 4 meals. Feeding your pup can be slightly complicated because of your, and not his, schedule. Labradoodle Puppy Meal Plan Puppies need feeding more often, as they need extra calories for growth and to satisfy their energy requirements. Labradoodle puppies should be fed 4 meals a day up to 3 months of age, 3 meals a day up to 6 months of age, and 2 meals a day from 6 months to adulthood. Age of Labradoodle. Labradoodles are unique because they come in a variety of sizes and shapes. In general, Labradoodles need protein-rich foods that contain essential fatty acids like omega-3s. These will help keep their coats shiny and their energy levels high. Additionally, Labradoodles need glucosamine to help support healthy joints, as well as probiotics for digestion and immunity. Proteins Labradoodles require a lot of protein in their diets. Look for foods that have high-quality sources of animal proteins such as chicken, fish, and lamb. Look for foods that contain healthy sources of fats, such as fish oil and flaxseed. Carbohydrates When shopping for food for your Labradoodle, you want to look for foods with complex carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes, brown rice, and oats. These will provide your pup with sustained energy throughout the day. Look for foods that contain essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin E, iron, zinc, and B Vitamins. These can all be difficult for your pup to digest and may cause allergies or stomach issues. Additionally, you want to make sure you avoid any food that contains by-products or fillers as these are not nutritious and could potentially be harmful. Labradoodles can suffer from a variety of health issues, including joint pain, allergies, and skin irritations. Depending on the issue your pup is facing, you may want to look for foods that are specifically formulated to address these problems. Joint Pain If your pup is suffering from joint pain, look for foods that contain glucosamine and chondroitin. These are natural supplements that help to lubricate the joint and reduce inflammation. Your pup can enjoy this food for up to 24 months before switching to adult food. This is considered one of the best dog foods for Boxer puppies for the money, and for good reason — you get more bang for your buck. This nutritious dog food features natural fish oil, chicken, and eggs, to name just a few healthy ingredients your pooch is sure to enjoy devouring. Pros Specially made for puppies up to 24 months Made with natural fish oil Features whole food ingredients Lacks in fruit and veggie nutrition compared to other options More expensive than other similar options 3. This puppy food has ingredients like L-Carnitine, meant to support healthy bone growth so your Boxer is less likely to develop health problems when they get older. Most importantly, this puppy food for Boxers is high in quality protein, which is necessary for healthy growth physically and mentally as your puppy grows into an adult. Royal Canin Boxer puppy food also features a wavy shape that makes it easy for the Boxer breed to chew and digest. But this is one of the most expensive options on the market, so it may not be financially feasible for some owners. Luckily, there are other high-quality options to choose from that are more affordable. Pros Designed specifically for Boxer puppies Features an easy-to-chew kibble shape Cons One of the most expensive options on the market The package tends to rip, requiring separate containment Can be tough to transition from this kibble to an adult option 4. Diamond Naturals Puppy Formula Dry Dog Food Check Price on Amazon This is a large breed puppy food that, while not specifically made for Boxers, still delivers all the nutrients your Boxer needs as they become an adult. Diamond Naturals puppy formula is an affordable option that your pooch can eat from puppyhood through adulthood, which takes all the guesswork out of proper nutrition. This food features pasture-raised lamb and includes added vitamins and minerals to help ensure well-rounded nutrition throughout all the puppy years. Made in the United States, it has no filler corn, wheat, or artificial preservatives to worry about either. Pros Made for large breed puppies like Boxers Affordable price tag Not meant for adult nutrition Missing quality ingredients that other options feature 5. It features controlled calcium levels to provide proper bone support. This dog food for Boxers is another good option made in the U. Blue Buffalo Life Puppy Dry Food Check Price on Amazon Formulated with real meat, fruits, veggies, and antioxidant-rich ingredients, Blue Buffalo Life Protection Formula for puppies is another great option for Boxers because it provides all the essential nutrients that this larger breed needs, while offering up a host of additional vitamins and nutrients designed to allow your puppy to thrive and feel their best as they age. Included are essential omega-3 and -6 fatty acids, which are necessary for a shiny and soft coat of fur. The kibble pieces are tiny, so your Boxer puppy should be able to start eating quickly. Eukanuba Puppy Dry Dog Food Check Price on Amazon This large breed puppy dog food is an excellent choice for Boxer owners because it features plenty of quality animal protein, as well as calcium and phosphorous that puppies need for strong and healthy bones. Containing DHA, Eukanuba can apparently help puppies better focus their minds so training is easier on owners. Once you choose a puppy food to feed your Boxer puppy, you should stick with it until you are ready to switch to adult food. Changing foods is hard on the digestive system and can result in problems like constipation, diarrhea, and discomfort. You should feed your Boxer puppy food designed specifically for puppies until they are at least a year old before you consider feeding them adult dog food. This will help ensure that your pooch gets all the nutrients they need while growing. What to Look For in Puppy Food When choosing a puppy food for your Boxer, the most important thing to consider is quality. In just a few months, your pup will be able to eat adult dog food. The money you spend now on quality food for your Boxer will result in a more well-rounded, happy, and healthy pooch. So, when choosing food for your Boxer puppy, you should look for real meat as the first ingredient. If grains or meal is the first ingredient, your pup may not get the vital nutrients and quality protein they need in order to thrive. Your chosen Boxer puppy food should have ingredients that include real fruits and vegetables, not just powders and concentrates. Avoid foods that include artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives whenever possible. Any food you decide to feed your puppy might not agree with their digestion at first, depending on what they have been fed up to this point. Offer up just a quarter cup of the food you want to feed your puppy to start. If no obvious digestion issues result, you can go ahead and continue feeding the new food to your new Boxer. If you decide to switch to a new brand at any point during puppyhood, mix the new stuff with the old stuff for about a week to make transitioning easy. You should do the same when it comes time to feed your Boxer adult dog food — mix the puppy and adult food for a few days before switching straight to adult food. Once you are sure your dog can handle the adult food, you can switch over completely. Take the list to your vet to gain extra insight and learn which would be the best option for your Boxer puppy. Final Verdict The type of puppy food you decide to feed your Boxer is up to you. Focus on the options that feature whole foods such as real meat instead of meal. There should never be artificial ingredients in play. Hopefully, our reviews of the best dog food for Boxer puppies has made your job easier. Daily Feeding Recommendations. Every bite of food will be detrimental or beneficial to this breed's health. Overview Food is fuel both for a growing Boxer pup and large strong adult Boxer dogs. The type of food that you offer for both meals and snacks has a direct affect on your Boxer's health both now and in the future. Also of importance is a feeding schedule and making sure that you offer the proper amounts. This section will cover everything you need to know in order to provide a well-balanced, nutritious diet for your Boxer puppy, adult, or senior. How Often to Feed a Boxer Puppy or Dog Let's look at a summary and then the details: Puppies under 12 weeks: free-fed Puppies and up to the 2-year mark: 3 meals per day Adults 2 years and up: 1 to 2 meals per day Young pups 8 to 12 weeks old: Very young pups, and particularly those that are a bit underweight, should be free-fed for at least the first month at their new home. This is the method of having fresh food accessible at all times. For a pup still trying to gain their bearings, you may need to lead them to their bowl throughout the day. Note that food should be thrown out and the bowl washed and then refilled several times per day as opposed to just topping off the food since pups may not be interested in stale food. Growing pup to 2 year mark: It's best to get a Boxer onto a feeding schedule as soon as possible. Schedules of anything feeding, exercise, sleep time, etc. Young Boxers often struggle a bit to fill out and during the 1 to 2-year mark Boxers can go through a 'skinny phase', so 3 meals per day, plus snacks, can work well during this time. Adults 2 years and up: Most adult Boxers that have reached their final adult weight and height do well with 2 meals per day, plus snacks. If snacks are regular and of substance, a Boxer may be perfectly content with 1 main meal per day. Note that this breed is prone to bloat, so you want to avoid letting a Boxer get so hungry that he rapidly gulps his food down. If that is the case, increase the frequency of meals or use a slow-feed bowl; stainless-steel is best, something like Mr. How Much to Feed a Boxer Puppy or Dog The exact serving size that is appropriate for each Boxer varies and depends mainly on age and current weight but also is affected by activity level, health status, type of food wet vs dry , and individual metabolism. This said, there are general guidelines: Puppies usually require about 55 calories for each pound of body weight. Young pups might eat a bit over a cup a day, older pups can eat up to 3 cups a day. Adults need fewer calories per pound of body weight than their younger counterparts, about .Depending on an adult Boxer dog's size, food is usually in the 3 to 5 cup per day range. To know exactly how much to give your Boxer, know your dog's weight. Don't guess since that can be wildly off. Then, look at the feeding guidelines on the bag of kibble; these are listed by age and weight and are usually pretty spot on. Dry Kibble vs Wet Canned Though many Boxers may prefer wet canned food, dry kibble is better to maintain healthy teeth and gum and a strong jaw. You'll still have to provide some level of at-home dental care , but the crunch of a hard kibble will work to some extent to remove plaque. Additionally, dry food seems to keep the stools firmer and healthier. If your Boxer is a finicky eater and balks at dry food, try mixing in just a bit of canned stick with the same brand or add just a bit of water or low-sodium chicken or beef broth. Grain vs Grain-free It's wasn't that long ago that putting a dog on a grain-free diet wasn't much of a big deal. Some grains, especially those with gluten, can cause excessive gas , upset stomach, and other issues. And, some dogs are allergic to wheat or gluten which can manifest as itching and other skin problems. But recently, a suspected link between certain grain-free dog foods and dilated cardiomyopathy DCM, a canine heart disease caused veterinary experts to take pause. And, since Boxers are one of the breeds prone to DCM, it's important to understand where things are on this. Though it was first thought that any grain-free diet may be the cause, the current thought is that it is a BEG diet, meaning boutique small specialty brands that have exotic meats non-traditional meats like alligator, kangaroo, bison, venison, etc. Many more studies need to be done for conclusive answers to be found. For now, it is recommended to offer healthy grains and this can be done while avoiding gluten if your Boxer has an issue with it. Navigating the Many Choices of Dog Foods What to Avoid: Many brands are guilty of having at least one of these elements that you do not want your Boxer's food to have: No grains at all. Until conclusive studies are complete, play it safe and offer a kibble with some level of healthy grains unless the veterinarian recommends otherwise Boxer needs to be on a specific grain-free diet, etc. Synthetic preservatives. These can be toxic. Butylated hydroxyanisole BHA , butylated hydroxytoluene BHT , and ethoxyquin, just to name a few, are linked to behavioral issues, organ damage, and some forms of cancer. Artificial coloring. Common dyes like Yellow 5 and 6 and Blue 2 are linked to behavioral and health issues. Artificial flavor enhancers. MSG is one of the worst, it is linked to anxiety, rapid heartbeat, and breathing issues. Generic animal digest, meats, oils, or fats. When anything is listed as 'animal', it is derived from a 4-D animal: dead, dying, diseased or disabled animals and can literally be any meat from any animal at all: minks from mink farms, roadkill, zoo animals, expired meats from supermarkets and butcher shops, etc. Fillers are cheap ingredients that are put into dog food to bulk it up but they have little to no nutritional value. The 'food' goes right through their system; a dog will eat but be hungry again soon afterward and this is one cause of coprophagia eating feces. These are the animal parts that are not fit for human consumption and includes such things as spinal tissue, lungs, spleens, hooves, tails, undeveloped eggs, etc. Made outside North America since meats from overseas can be questionable. The kibble will be preserved using a vitamin blend often listed as mixed tocopherals and will be naturally flavored and colored. Some level of grains. Grains that are generally well-tolerated include rice, oatmeal, and quinoa. Wholesome real meats, veggies, and fruits. Some ingredients sourced from Norway are fine; this country has very strict guidelines. If you are not sure what is in your Boxer's food, investigate it. Know about grain content and the presence or lack of additives and subpar ingredients. Recommended Dog Food for Boxers Please note that the following recommendations are formulas with some level of healthy grains; if you did not read the previous ' Grain vs Grain-free ' you may wish to do so before continuing on. This meets all of the requirements of what you're looking for. There are no synthetic preservatives; vitamins are used instead shown as mixed tocopherals. The grains in this formula are generally very well tolerated: quinoa technically a seed , oatmeal, and barley. There are 3 different recipes to choose from: beef, chicken, or lamb. Other ingredients include peas, salmon, carrots, apples, blueberries, and flaxseed. There are good levels of glucosamine chondroitin vital for joint health , antioxidants, and omega fatty acids important for skin and coat health. There are no by-products, fillers, or generic meats or oils and this is sourced and made in the USA. For this one, the base is chicken a very classic tasty protein that most dogs love , along with oatmeal, brown rice, ground barley, peas, flaxseed, carrots, tomato pomace, spinach, sweet potatoes, apples, and blueberries. All other ingredients shown on the label are either vitamins and minerals or natural preservatives. This has no wheat, corn, soy, meat by-products, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives, and this is made in the USA. This brand offers a top-quality formula that is gluten-free. There is no wheat, corn, soy, by-products, artificial flavors, artificial colors, or chemical preservatives. The base is chicken and brown rice and other ingredients include white rice, oatmeal, rice bran, avocado, flax seed, herring, and kelp. It has good levels of omega fatty acids and antioxidants. The one trade-off for having it be gluten-free is that it does not contain any fruit; however, it does have all required vitamins and minerals and you can always offers a small amount of fresh fruit as snacks. Homemade Vs Commercial Commercial dog food is convenient and, if you choose a superior brand, it will ensure that your Boxer receives all needed nutrients and is on a well-rounded and well-balanced diet. And, home cooked food gives you complete control over what your Boxer eats and does not eat and can be tweaked to satisfy a finicky eater. So, there are pros and cons to each. Whether you opt for a top-quality kibble or you use good cuts of meat and fish and fresh produce in homemade meals, neither option is super-cheap. Because, of course, you get what you pay for. But, if you buy in bulk and lean toward frozen vegetables and fruits, home cooking may be a bit less expensive. That said, when you prepare meals at home, you'll need to offer a good daily vitamin and mineral supplement even good brands of kibble need to add this in because it's nearly impossible for a dog to receive all nutrients just from food alone. Some of the foods that can be incorporated into meals include: Proteins: Chicken, turkey, veal, beef, fish mackeral, haddock, salmon, whitefish, cod, and others , eggs, and certain beans kidney, lima Vegetables: Carrots, broccoli in moderation , potato, sweet potato, sugar snap peas, green beans, spinach Fruits: Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, pumpkin Grains: Quinoa, oatmeal, rice Related Articles: Best Snacks, Chews, and Treats for a Boxer - A great rundown of the difference between these 3 things and top recommendations. Dog companionship, care, and breeding have been in Jennifer's blood since birth. We are a family here at Doodles of Cypress and our dams and sires are a very important and special part of our family. These dogs are our pets. They live day in and day out alongside us, cuddling, playing, and enjoying a life full of love and attention. BAB Programs have to agree to a unifying oath that governs their breeding practices as well as includes opportunities for continuing education to ensure pups are going home having had a balanced 8 to 9 weeks, including Early Neurological Stimulation exercises, Early Scent Introduction, nerve strengthening exercises, confidence building challenges, culminating in a temperament evaluation so our Pup Parents can make the MOST informed decision regarding which pup is going to fit BEST into their lives, ensuring a happy, healthy adjustment for all, not simply based off of color and sex of puppy alone. Our dams and sires have been health tested and come from health tested lines. When choosing a breeder for Goldendoodle Puppies, it is essential for the Adoptive Family to find out specifically what health tests are done and ask for proof of testing. Our mission is to provide families with happy, healthy, affectionate, sound additions to their families. TWO of our puppies from Hamilton Litter were placed in Facility Dog training placements, and will be providing emotional support in educational settings. Additionally, Jennifer had to submit video of herself conducting an evaluation as well as the corresponding score card where the evaluation is interpreted. This submission was then evaluated by highly trained and Jeanette Forrey Approved designated Master Evaluators. It is Proof that she has demonstrated the following: Commitment to the BAB Oath and the mission to unite breeders to change breeding as we know it - from "bad" to BAB Demonstrates Sound Knowledge and Implementation of the BAB Program and Protocols Showcases all we do to help further the mission of educating families Holds their program to the highest of care and health standards of their breeding stock Honors and respects all puppies by giving them a voice Serves as an Ambassador for BABs, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethical practices Recognized Responsible Breeder by Good Dog. So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Putting a labradoodle and a cat together is almost a kind of forced marriage. Neither of the animals has chosen the other voluntarily, and probably never will. But how you should go about introducing a labradoodle and a cat depends a bit on the specific situation and age of the animals. Grown Cat and Labradoodle Puppy By nature, a puppy is very curious and attentive to anything that moves. Thankfully a Labradoodle puppy is quite easy to distract from an otherwise interesting cat if you just give it some extra attention. Try petting it or finding some other creative way to play with it. The most important is to avoid the cat becoming hostile to the puppy might end up anxious around it. A grown cat might have trouble accepting the energy level of a young puppy. Therefore a cat should always have the option to go someplace else and be left alone if it feels the new puppy is too annoying. Keeping the dog on a leash at all times, in the beginning, is highly recommended. Try giving the dog some treats, so the dog sees the company of the cat as something nice. If your cat has previously been accustomed to other dogs it will most likely quickly accept the new dog. As it if was a puppy you had brought home, make sure the cat has a place where it can go and be on its own, with being annoyed by the dog. And you should probably stock up on patience, as it can take some time where the cat might whine, hiss or scratch until it feels completely safe. Grown Labradoodle and Kitten Dogs are by nature pack animals with their own species, and this instinct can be translated to other species, like cats. Of course, all animals are different, but by choosing a labradoodle, you have a good basis. Unlike if you have a terrier or pitbull who will usually have a harder time adapting to a cat. Most of the time a week old kitten will be old enough to know to be careful in new and different situations. Labradoodle Puppy and Kitten This is probably the best combination for a life long friendship. Both the labradoodle and the kitten are small, curious and filled with energy. In addition, they are also very trainable, and especially when it comes to understanding the body language of the other part. General Tips The earlier the better As stated earlier in this post, the younger both your pets are, the better. Are you thinking about getting a puppy a few years before getting a kitten, or the other way round? Consider waiting a bit and getting the pets at pretty much the same time. In a study done by Lincoln University, all pet owners pretty much agreed that the earlier the two animals met each other in their lives, the better. This is caused by the fact that both dogs and cats are naturally more curious at that age. If your labradoodle or cat feels that the counterpart has become increasingly annoying, and there is no place to hide from that unwanted attention, it will usually lead to physical interaction. Perhaps a crate for your dog or a climbing tree for your cat can be the solution. Let the relationship grow over time If you are trying to bring together and older dog and cat, it might take a while before the pets fully accept the presence of the other. As long as both animals have their separate areas of the house, they will slowly learn to accept each other. And perhaps with time, even become close friends. If that ends up happening, try finding an expert on dogs and cats in your general area to see if they might be able to help. These links are affiliate links, so if you do end up using the links, I will earn a commission. Dog Food: Every dog needs to eat correctly, and finding the best food for your dog can be challenging, as the market is absolutely flooded with products. Most Labradoodles should be fine with cats. However, you will have the odd one that bucks that trend. Your Labradoodle may end up loving your cat, but the cat may end up not being a big fan. This is more likely to happen if the cat is older and likes to be more relaxed. Cats and dogs are both predators. In the wild, cats and dogs would be natural enemies. A dog would likely see a cat as food. They both also see each other as potential invaders of territory. While it is a bit easier to deal with in the home cats and dogs can become friends , you have to remember that they are both animals. They still have those raw instincts brimming under the surface. Think about it from the perspective of your older cat. They have spent years in your home. Eating whenever they want. Getting attention from their pack leader. Then, one day, without consulting your cat, a big, feisty predator came into their home. You would be a bit peeved, too, right? It will take weeks to get them to that point, but the following really should help. Give the cat its own space We will discuss this a bit more in the next section. For now, all you need to know is that a cat should have its own space in your home that the dog will not have any access to. Now, there is a good chance that your dog and cat will never be able to mingle properly. Therefore, the space should be quite large and have all the necessities that the cat needs. Different meals times for your puppy and cat Well, at the very minimum, the dog and the cat should not be eating in the same place. As we said before, these are both predators. The dog and the cat will just think that their food is being stolen when they are together. So, try and keep them apart. If your Labradoodle is eating , do not let the cat in there. If the cat is eating, do not let the dog in there. It is something simple, but it works. Of course, they both should have access to their own water bowl. A chocolate medium Labradoodle Supervision is key Until you can trust your dog and cat together not for a few months , then any meeting between the two of them should be fully supervised. You want to ensure that the dog is not doing anything to irritate the cat. If they are, then you need to train them not to do it. During the first few months of Labradoodle ownership, you will be training your dog to show restraint and control. The problem is that many new dog owners end up ignoring their cats. It is natural. You are trying to get your dog comfortable in their new home. They need to be trained. They just think that you are ignoring them. Wherever possible, try to praise your cat and give them treats just as often as you give treats and praise to your dog. Obviously, this is not going to be possible all the time. Some of the praise that the dog gets will be praised because they are being trained. Most of the time is right, though. Do not shout at your Labradoodle Does your cat not seem to be doing too well around your dog? Do they seem a bit aggressive? Does something similar happen with your dog? Well, under no circumstances should you be shouting at either one of them. This just reinforces their behavior. Instead, split them up as quickly as you can. It is much easier working with a dog for diversions than with a cat, after all. You need to get the cat used to the puppy over time. A few weeks before you get your puppy, you will need to give the cat its own dedicated space in your home. Make sure that they have everything in the same room. This includes: A bed. Pet Keen is reader-supported. When you buy via links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no cost to you. Learn more. But how well do Labradoodles fit into households with other pets? Read on to learn more about raising Labradoodles and cats in the same household. Labradoodles can absolutely get along with cats. Labrador Retrievers and Poodles are laidback and easy-going breeds, so they can learn to live alongside your feline family members under the right circumstances. To increase your chances of successfully raising both Labradoodles and cats is to introduce them in a slow, intentional, and controlled way to make both animals comfortable with one another. Image Credit: sophiecat, Shutterstock The 3 Situations for Introducing Labradoodles and Cats There are different ways to introduce your two pets, depending on the situation at hand. Adding a Labradoodle puppy to a family with an existing cat. Your kitty will be the one struggling with this transition as your new puppy will likely have little to no problem socializing with other animals at a young age. Image Credit: Piqsels 2. Adding an adult Labradoodle to a family with an existing cat. Has it lived with other cats before, or has it had negative experiences with cats in the past? Has it lived with pups in the past or had negative run-ins with them? Have realistic expectations here. If your cat is ten years old and has had the house to itself its entire life, it may have problems learning to share its territory to the point where it may never accept your Labradoodle as part of its family. Adopting both the Labradoodle and cat at the same time. Puppies and cats introduced into a family together from birth can often live harmoniously with each other simply because they view one another as an extension of their own litter. Keep in mind that your Labradoodle will grow much faster than your kitten and can inadvertently inflict harm on your kitty if it gets too rowdy during a case of the zoomies. Keep Them Apart Do not begin the introduction process until your new pet has had a chance to become accustomed to its home. Your Labradoodle should be kept in a room where it cannot see the cat and vice versa. As time goes on, you can begin moving the dishes closer to the door until they can eat calmly right outside of the closed door. Once they can successfully eat that close in proximity, prop the door open with a door stop on both sides so they can see each other but not actively reach one another in case one reacts aggressively. Every time your pet acts curiously towards the new scent, reward it with praise and treats. If there is an aggressive reaction e. Do not punish your pet for reacting in such a way as this is a normal and natural behavior. This introductory period can take several days or weeks, so be patient. Image Credit: sophiecat, Shutterstock 3. Introduce the Space to Your New Pet Several times a day, allow your Labradoodle to explore its new home without the resident cat around. Confine your kitty to a room and let the dog walk around and sniff its new space. This needs to be done carefully and intentionally to keep both pets safe. Use a baby gate to keep them in separate rooms and put your dog on a leash. If the interactions result in fearful or aggressive behaviors, remove the animals from one another at once. You can expect mild forms of such behaviors at first but do not give them a chance to intensify as they can be difficult to change down the line. In this case, your kitty will need a dog-free sanctuary that contains its litter box, scratching post , toys, and water and food bowls. In the same breath, your puppy may be frightened of your cat, especially if your kitty is less than welcoming to its new family member. Your pup will need a space to call its own, with its food and water bowls, bed, and toys, too. Monitor Every Interaction Never leave pets new to one another alone for any length of time as both animals can do significant harm to one another. Labradoodles have a natural hunting instinct from their Labrador Retriever side that can make them instinctively want to chase your cat around. Cats, on the other hand, have sharp claws that can inflict much damage if provoked. Kittens are much smaller than dogs—even puppies—and can be killed by a young and energetic dog. Image Credit: litthouse, Pixabay 7. Use Positive Reinforcement Every time your cat or Labradoodle have positive interactions with one another, reward them immediately. Punishment is never the answer. Final Thoughts A Labradoodle and a cat can learn to live harmoniously with one another, but the introductory period needs to be gradual and intentional. Introducing the dog While dogs and cats have often been portrayed as enemies, it is usually a great deal easier to introduce a new cat to a dog than to another cat. While both animals may be wary of each other initially, they do not see the other as direct competition and can actually get on very well. If your dog is used to cats he may be excited initially at having a new one in the house but he will soon settle down and the novelty will wear off very quickly. He will begin to see the new cat as part of his pack. Many dogs will live happily with their own cats while chasing strange felines out of the garden, so you will need to take care until the cat is seen as one of the household. Likewise if your new cat or kitten has previously lived with a dog then it will be much less likely to be frightened for long and will become confident around the dog more quickly. However, initially safety must come first. You will need to keep everything under control until the dog and cat have got used to each other. Stroke the dog and cat separately but without washing your hands to exchange their scents. Once again the large pen is ideal for first meetings to keep the situation calm and the cat protected. Let the dog sniff the newcomer through the bars and get over its initial excitement. The cat may well hiss and spit but it is well protected. If you have a large pen then you can put the cat in this at night in the room where the dog sleeps and let them get used to each other for a few days or even a week, depending on how used to cats the dog is. Some dogs, especially those not used to cats or of an excitable or aggressive disposition, need extra special care for introductions. They should be kept as calm as possible on the lead and made to sit quietly. The new cat should be given a safe position in the room and allowed to get used to the dog and approach it if it wants. This may take quite some time and requires patience and rewards for the dog if it behaves well. For quieter dogs and those used to cats, introductions can be made by using a strong cat carrier. Keep the dog on a lead initially, place the carrier on a high surface and allow controlled introductions which are short and frequent. Most dogs will soon calm down when they realise the newcomer is not actually very interesting. Progress to meetings with the dog on a lead initially for safety. If your dog is rather excitable then take it for a vigorous walk first to get rid of some of its energy! You may need to work hard to keep things calm and be aware that a sudden dash from the cat will induce a chase. Praise the dog for calm interactions, make it sit quietly and use food treats to reward the dog for good behaviour. Again, associate the presence of the cat with reward for calm behaviour. When you progress to access without the lead make sure there are places where the cat can escape to — high ledges or furniture it can use to feel safe. Never leave the dog and cat together unattended until you are happy they are safe together. Likewise a litter tray can be pretty tempting and should be kept out of reach of the dog if it is likely to snaffle the contents. What happens when you want to bring a dog into a family like that? Rachel Katz learned a lot about this through introducing a dog to her family soul cat, Bodhi. The process was challenging, even with careful preparation. But the pay off of a happy family was BIG. Which is why I asked her to tell us what she learned — tell us everything! Fated for a family Guest post by Rachel Katz The journey began with a humble prayer. So when my significant other, Andy, and I decided to move forward with our long-delayed plan to get a canine, my obsession with finding the perfect fit for our sweet, gentle kitty overrode all else. After much discussion and more than a dollop of self-imposed guilt , Andy and I concluded that despite the fact that we wanted another rescue, we were unwilling to gamble with the tangle of unknowns and would, instead, go with a dog breeder. From then on, it was a dog research marathon. For months we scoured the net for breed information and spoke with friends, colleagues and dog owners in the neighborhood park. Most importantly, we wanted to know which breeds were best suited for a cat. The only breed we were warned to avoid was terrier. One in particular hijacked our hearts- the labradoodle. They were impossibly adorable, possessed exceptionally sweet temperaments, uber smart, easily trainable, and seemed a good fit. Investigations With that in mind, we set up an appointment with our vet to discuss how best to welcome a labradoodle into a cat-owned household. We had many questions. Like, what age is the best fit? We were told there are advantages and disadvantages to getting a puppy. We also wanted to know if they should sleep and eat in separate rooms at first. The answer was yes. Should a cat door to our enclosed urban garden be installed as an escape route? Our vet said that was another good idea — cats need to feel safe by always having a dog-free space they can go to. What behavior changes — if any — should we look out for? Would the stress of a new dog exacerbate his condition? No, but she cautioned us to always feed Bodhi first. We attended several Bay Area Doodle romps to find out which breeders had the best reputations and experience socializing puppies with cats. As luck would have it, we found one who had both. A rough start Although our new puppy, Charlie, seemed to quickly adapt to his forever home, Bodhi was miserable. After a week, he disappeared into the garage where he would hide for hours, no longer snuggled in our bed, and avoided being in the same room as Charlie. And the worst? Finding him in the bathtub soaked in a pool of blood-streaked urine — the result of a stress-related urinary tract infection. Devastated, I called my dear friend Betty sobbing. We also made the mistake common to many parents focused on a newborn — not paying enough attention to the other sibling. It seemed as if there was only one solution to right this wrong. We would have to give Charlie up. Betty listened with her customary compassion. Trust that it will work out. This was my new mantra. Slowly but surely, it all pays off Progress: peacefully in the same room. Even better! We created rituals to further facilitate connection. Treat Time consisted of Andy feeding a customized late-night snack to our furries — Bodhi first. This was followed by Family Time, when he would carry Bodhi upstairs to bed and gently drop him onto my chest. Andy would then settle underneath his sliver of covers and within seconds, Charlie would sprint up the stairs, jump on the bed and plop in-between our feet, completing our group snuggle before drifting off to sleep. However, nature vs. Home sweet home But I do know this: The journey took time. And that my prayer was heard. Share this:. These pups are known for their curly coats and interesting personalities. Although their patient Labrador personality shines through most of the time, you may find flares of stubborn poodle personality rearing up now and then. But what about a Labradoodle and cats? Cats, as we know, are not afraid of expressing their opinions. And your high-energy Labradoodle might not be tolerable at first. But, by understanding cat behavior and getting to know your pets, you might find that your Labradoodle and cat have become best friends. According to their general personalities, Labradoodles and cats should be able to co-exist in your home peacefully. Although, there are a few specifics that may influence their relationship. Introducing Labradoodles and Cats No matter what breed of pooch you have, there is always a proper way to introduce cats and dogs to each other. And you may have a pet who has already established your home as its territory. I have a series of articles on how different dog breeds get along with cats: Can Poodles and Cats Get Along? During this time, you can encourage your Labradoodle to spend time with you on the other side of the door. For new Labradoodles, socialization as a puppy is critical. Exposing them to other animals and many people is vital during their early puppy months. Ideally, your puppy should have some socialization before meeting your cat. This will help them to establish that other animals are not a threat. Dogs, especially energetic breeds like Golden Retrievers and Labradoodles, can be a lot for a cat to handle. During their introduction, ensure your cat has an escape route if they feel overwhelmed. Ensure They Have Their Own Space While you want to encourage them to share your home space, your cat and Labradoodle will also need a space to call their own. Just like any other member of the family, fluffy or not. A separate bed for your dog and your cat is a great first step. A cat tree will also give them a comfy perch to escape from your busy Doodle if need be. Labradoodles are very energetic and social dogs who need a lot of attention and exercise. Daily walks are a great way to help them burn off excess energy that may otherwise be cast onto your cat. While cats also love a bit of play, they spend a lot of time in their favorite sleeping positions. Sharing downtime with your cat will be as good for you as it is for your kitty. Supervise Your Pets One of the most important factors in fostering a good relationship between your Labradoodle and cat is closely monitoring them during the first few weeks. Pay close attention to how they approach and engage with each other and which one of them is most territorial. Remember that Labradoodle puppies are very playful. This is especially useful should you need to break up a fluffy flight. Indoor cameras are a lifesaver when you have to step out of the house. Separate Feeding Times and Locations Food is very important to all animals. After all, Labradoodles have Labrador genes, which are notoriously the greediest breed of dogs. They can and will devour anything in sight. The best way to prevent this is by having separate feeding times and locations for your cat and your Labradoodle. Maybe not. If your pet has displayed territorial or aggressive behavior in the past, it may not be ready for a new housemate. However, some training and socialization can help this. Any information about their parents or the environment they came from will help you determine whether they are a good fit for your home. Final Thoughts on Labradoodles and Cats Labradoodles and cats are fantastic companions alone, but are potentially even better together. Cats and Labradoodles have all the necessary traits to become the best of friends, as long as you take care to foster a good relationship between them. By watching over them for a few weeks and taking note of these helpful tips, you are sure to have a happy cat and Labradoodle. These cat names inspired by food might help you out. Although the Poodle is the national dog of France, they actually originated in Germany over years ago where they were commonly used as a duck hunter. Their curly coat protected them from the elements and they were bred for their excellent swimming skills, high intelligence, and incredible retrieval skills. The Poodle comes in three sizes — Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Throughout history, this dog breed has served many purposes. From living in the lap of luxury as companions to nobility to working out in the field as a valuable hunting companion to entertaining people in circuses around the world, the Poodle is right at home. Although they are more popular as a companion dog, the Poodle still maintains their athleticism and working dog instincts. Poodles are known for their intelligence, cheerful disposition, and sensitive nature. They are versatile dogs that make great family companions. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Due to their sensitive nature, they tend to be a better fit for older children who understand how to approach and interact with a dog appropriately. These dogs prefer peace and harmony in the household, so very young children that are too loud or rough can stress them out. The Standard Poodle also tends to be quite energetic until they are about two years old and may be prone to knock over small children in their excitement. Standard Poodles also tend to make great watchdogs and have some protective instincts. Without proper socialization, they can become skittish, nervous, and wary of strangers. Making sure any puppy is socialized early and often helps them grow into a confident, well-rounded dog. Standard Poodles are highly adaptable dogs. Their energy level tends to make them better-suited for larger homes with room for them to run. But, they can adapt well to apartment living as long as they receive the exercise, mental stimulation, and affection that they need. They tend to do well in most climates. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to very hot and very cold weather. These dogs are in-tune with their owners and thrive on human companionship and affection, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Poodles are a relatively healthy dog breed, but there are some potential health concerns to be aware of. Because of their larger, barrel-chested body type, the Standard Poodle is also at risk for bloat. Responsible breeders will screen and test their stock to ensure the genetic propensity for breed-related conditions is not passed along to the puppies. Poodles are highly intelligent, sensitive, and eager to please their owners. They are highly trainable, pick up things quickly, and are a good fit for owners of any experience level. Because they are sensitive and in-tune with their owners, they respond best to consistent, positive training techniques focused on rewards and praise. Poodle coats are curly or corded and come in a wide variety of colors. Although Poodles are known for their low-shedding, hypoallergenic coats, their coats still require a lot of maintenance. Keeping your Poodle in a short clip can help reduce daily maintenance, but still requires regular professional grooming every four to six weeks to maintain it. A longer coat requires daily brushing in order to prevent matting in addition to professional grooming every four to six weeks. Regular professional grooming often helps with this as nail trimming should be done monthly, at least, to keep nails from growing too long. Dental care for dogs , like brushing their teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day, is essential to protecting them from painful dental diseases like gum disease and tooth decay. You, your dog, and your groomer will thank you for it! Who knows? If you ensure these experiences stay positive, they could even become a bonding time that your dog enjoys. These are high energy dogs that require a good amount of exercise and mental stimulation every day in order to be happy and healthy. They love to stay busy and may enjoy running with you, going for a swim, taking trips to the dog park , hiking with you, and more. They also tend to be a good fit for several dog sports, such as agility, dock diving, obedience, flyball, tracking, and more. They can be slightly smaller than the usual as the Standard size is denoted by being more than 15 inches tall at the shoulder. A Standard Poodle generally lives years. Jordan is a very special dog. Like a lot of dogs, Jordan was rescued from a very bad situation. He was extremely emaciated, he had no hair, covered in parasites, and extremely afraid of everything. He could barely walk when I got him. I have owned him for about 7 months now, and he has all his hair back too much, actually , has gained a lot of weight, is MUCH happier, but most importantly he is no longer afraid of people. With spending a ton of time with his socialization , training , and guidance , he is now a well-balanced dog. I don't exactly know what happened to him before me, but it doesn't matter anymore, anyway. Jordan did have all sorts of bad behaviors at first due to his neglect which included: excessive barking, digging, pulling, jumping, etc. Typical "bad dog" behavior. But with all the walks and adventures we go on he is not only well-balanced, but truly happy. I am his "Guardian Angel. He gives hugs and kisses. He is my suction-cup when we are outside together; he has to be by me always. I love it! He is happiest when the whole family is out in the backyard playing together. He is very much a part of our family, even stays inside now, after some time housetraining. He was never aggressive toward anything or anyone. He loves his "girlfriend"! My other Boxer Baby Girl who also is a rescue. She was rescued at 2 years old and is now a whopping 8 years old. A few months after losing another rescue of mine I was really considering adopting another dog because I needed some form of protection living in a rough neighborhood. One day, while I was sitting in my living room my neighbor knocked on my door, "Hey, there's a Boxer outside running around crazy, and the owner doesn't want it. OK, I will take a look! I saw that happy face and that wiggly butt, I was in love! I said yes! Little did I know what I was getting myself into. This dog was an absolute nightmare, lol! At first she barged out of every door, broke every collar, leash, chain, tie-out cable we bought! She was horrified of so many things. She had separation anxiety really bad, so bad she made herself bleed to get out. After a very long and bumpy road we finally accomplished what I dreamed: "the perfect dog. She is so well-behaved and excellent mannered. She even stops on a dime if I tell her to. She is my everything! I have taught her a lot, but not as much as she has taught me. She taught me patience, understanding, love, devotion, and so much more. She has won the hearts of everyone she has met AND has even made a dog lover out of the people who were "scared" of dogs or "hated" dogs. I take her everywhere with me. She loves her bath time, especially playing "torro" with the towel during drying time! She hugs me, and she gives me the gentlest kisses. She has no aggression toward anything or anyone, she loves everything! This dog is my entire world. She always rests her head on my lap and gives me those soulful puppy dog eyes. Unlike any other dogs I've ever had she and I communicate mentally or something. She and I just know what each other want. Before I got her she had never been out other than a quick potty break on a 4-foot lead. She also had been through a lot of owners. She's great inside now, though! With all that work she's perfect inside! I can leave a whole plate of food on the floor for hours while I'm not in the room and she won't touch it. No accidents, never chewed on anything, very quiet. She's my angel. Her favorite activity would be eating. She's loves food. This is a dog who has taught me to be strong, all good things are worth fighting for, never give up, and you never get the dog you want, always the dog you need. I cannot say I follow his methods, because I have been training my dogs this same way before I ever heard of him. I also train therapy dogs, and guide dogs. Not certified, or anything. I rescue dogs and train them to help those who don't want to go through the certified Therapy Dog Associations for such reasons as waiting lists. I thank god for Cesar, though, because he is one of the few proving that Pit Bulls can be rehabilitated, and showing the world everything they need to know to save their dog's life. My love for Baby Girl made me fall in love with Boxers period, which led me into rescuing another Boxer, so I guess in a way she's saved two lives. Just like me. She's been through a lot, and has come very far. Most important thing she didn't give up on me, either. So, this photo is a dedication to Baby Girl so the entire world can hear Baby Girl's message of never giving up on your dog, because they will never give up on you. Thank you for the strength, you have given me Baby Girl, and I hope together we can save lives: the lives of dogs. She's a Boxer in every sense of the word. Callie the Boxer full grown getting some sun though the window blinds. He is pictured with Abby left who is 3 years old and 68 pounds 32 kg. You see our two legged children are all grown, or mostly grown, and we are pretty much empty-nesters. Our dogs have become much like our kids and they have actually given us grand-puppies, unlike our adult offspring. She is a four year old AKC registered Boxer and not only did people comment on how pretty she is, and what a nice confirmation she has, but total strangers come up to us and remark on how gentle and calm she is for a Boxer. Nope, not Leah. People in our town would randomly come up to use when we took her for a walk and ask us if you ever breed her we would be very interested in a puppy. Choosing a Stud Dog The first thing we did was bring her to the vet had have a health exam, make sure she was current on all her shots, and get x-rays for hip dysplasia. I wanted a match for her that complimented her coloring, body style and most of all her personality. We were looking for a gentle male and a breeder family that had the same goals of matching pups to families who would appreciate the Boxer breed and personality. Theo and Leah We found Theo online yes doggie computer dating and in January, before Leah went into heat, we visited his home and introduced the dogs. It was a doggie match made in heaven. The Surghoe family lives on an acreage in central Nebraska and have two young boys who are VERY involved in caring for the dogs and have the main job of socializing puppies. We compared papers, which in our case was really important because Leah was born about 40 miles away, and found no relation. We also inspected each others health records. One particular person who had shown and bred champion Boxers even felt the need to message me privately and complement me on Leah and her head confirmation and was very impressed with Theo as well. They too had fallen in love with her. She has her bed on the floor by my head. Supplies For Birthing Puppies.

This is because they really have taken the best of two amazing breeds of dog. However, the Labradoodle has gained one small problem from the Poodle genes. You also have to remember that the fur is also going to get into their eyes. This can cause severe eye irritation. If the problem is not dealt with, it is not uncommon for this to result in serious eye infections. You also need to remember that matted fur is a significant issue. Matted fur traps moisture. This can lead to sores on the skin of your dog. This will not only be painful for your Labradoodle, but this can also result in a serious infection. If you have a decent grooming regime for your dog, e. If you are working with a professional groomer, then feel free to ask them any questions. They will be happy to tell you whether the dog is receiving a haircut often enough. This, and the fact that shorter coats are much cooler for the thick-haired Labradoodle, so they will love having it chopped off during the warmer months. If your Labradoodle enjoys adventure, e. Your adventure loving dog will probably need a haircut more often. This is because their fur is going to be a lot more prone to becoming matted. Perhaps the best way to reduce the need for your Labradoodle to have regular haircuts is to establish a proper grooming regime. This will help to straighten out any matted fur. There are some problem areas on the dog, which are more likely to suffer from mats. You need to target these the most. We will talk about those in the next section. You will especially want to make sure that you bathe your dog after they get dirty outside. If they are wet, then make sure that you dry them off as soon as possible. What Are the Problem Areas for Labradoodles? A super cute miniature Labradoodle named Max As we said before, there are certain problem areas on your Labradoodle. These are the areas that are more likely to suffer from matted fur. They are also the areas that a lot of people will end up missing. When you have a good grooming regime in place, you will want to ensure that you pay special attention to these problem areas. If you take your Labradoodle to a professional groomer, then this is where they will be spending most of their time. We have already discussed the length of fur around the eyes. However, this is not the only area where the fur can grow quite long and cause some issues. Paws — Fur can often grow quite long around the paws. This will cause the dog to slip around when they are running. This, of course, can be very dangerous for the dog. Butt — Your dog may also suffer from long hair around their butt area. This is a hygiene issue. Dog poop will get stuck to the hairs around the butt. This will become a breeding ground for bacteria, or it may even attract flies. In either case, this will cause irritation for your dog, and it may even lead to an infection. Be gentle, and make sure that you groom their fur in small sections so that you can ensure that all matted fur has been straightened out. The one issue many people have when they are grooming is that they will only brush the top of the coat. This may remove some matted fur, but it is certainly not going to remove all of it. Most matted fur is hidden in areas that you cannot see. So, spread the hair a little bit and brush the base coat. This will remove most matted hair. We know that this is going to be a lot of effort, but we promise you that this really is going to be the best way to keep your dog boasting a perfect coat and, above all, keep them nice and healthy. You can. DIY grooming follows the same sequence pretty much every time. Get the right tools — and practice will make perfect. Another strategy is to outsource the effort. Take your Labradoodle to a professional groomer. You can be confident knowing that the job will be done correctly. It also means that your dog is going to look decent when the haircut is done. If you do not have a basic brushing and grooming routine in place, then it is crucial that you work with a professional. Without regular brushing and grooming, your Labradoodle is going to have a lot of matted fur. It can be quite painful for your dog if you try to remove the matted fur on your own. Make sure that you know how to use them before you get to work on your dog. It will make the experience much more pleasant for both you and your furry friend. Haircuts can be quite a scary experience for dogs. Luckily, there are a few things that you can do to make your dog more comfortable. If you can, try to desensitize your puppy to haircuts from a young age. If a puppy experiences something at a young age, they will be much more comfortable with it as they get older. The scariest part about a haircut for a dog is often the sound of the clippers. Try to purchase the quietest set if this is an issue. You will also want to introduce the dog to those clippers slowly. Just introduce them to the sound. They will eventually get used to it. If you are giving your dog a haircut, then you may want to try and play with their ears as much as you can throughout. This will help to calm your dog down. Finally, make sure that you have treats on hand. Try to make the whole experience as fun as possible. Talk to your dog. Give them a reward when they do something good. Conclusion So, there you have it. Labradoodles are going to need to have a haircut on occasion. Several times per year, in fact. However, as long as you groom them regularly, you may be able to keep the number of haircuts that they need down to a minimum. For most dogs, it is vital to get these haircuts.
