Labrador Retrievers are famous for being friendly and companionable to both humans and other dogs. This makes the Labrador an ideal breed to keep as a family dog. There are factors, however, which need to be considered before choosing a Labrador puppy. Bringing home a beautiful black Lab puppy? Check out hundreds of great black dog names here! The amount of maternal care a pup receives prior to adoption influences the adult temperament of your Labrador. A responsible breeder will not remove your puppy from its mother before it is ready. In the study, Labs belonging to extroverted owners had better social skills than those belonging to introverted owners. You may also look through your local classifieds for unregistered litters, although we do not recommend it. Even though Labradors are a generally healthy breed, it is important that both parents get screened for any health issues prior to breeding. Adopting from unregistered litters will also significantly increase your chances of encountering a puppy mill. No matter where you adopt from, it is essential that you meet both parents and access a history of good health for each parent before adopting a puppy from the facility. In other parts of the world, use the puppy search tool on the website of your regional kennel club or equivalent authority. You may also ask a local veterinarian for a reference to a quality breeder. Another option is to keep an eye out for someone with a purebred Labrador and request information on where they adopted from. Registered breeders use only top-of-the-line animals as parents. Puppies from responsible and registered breeders are given the appropriate amount of maternal care and not released to a new home until they are physically and mentally mature enough to do so. This lays the foundation for an affectionate and even temperament in adulthood. The cons of adopting from a breeder are higher costs and often longer wait times. Responsible breeders require a pre-adoption home check to ensure that their puppies are appropriately homed. You may also need to travel some distance to find the right breeder. Registered breeders usually breed a maximum of only twice per year. This maintains parental health and allows sufficient time for the puppies to progress. These breeders often have waitlists for upcoming litters before they are born, sometimes before the parents are even bred. While these practices maintain value, they also mean the puppies will cost a little more and take longer to bring home. Private Ads Private ads for puppies can be found in online classifieds or in your local newspaper. You may also spot them on the bulletin boards of various local businesses. The benefits of sourcing a puppy from a private ad is that the breeder is likely be located nearby, and the puppies will be available relatively quickly, if not immediately. The cons of taking this route is that you do not have pedigree parents to your puppy, and the risk of health complications down the road is much higher. Puppy farms will often advertise through private ads. For these reasons, we do not recommend sourcing a puppy through a private ad. Pet Shops We do not endorse purchasing puppies from pet shops, because the credentials of both parents and breeder cannot be provided. Parents of pet shop puppies may have been overbred, mistreated, or in less than optimal health. It is impossible to know without verified records. The puppies themselves could have experienced conditions and trauma that will negatively impact their behavior in adulthood, such as being separated from their mothers too soon or physical abuse. Avoiding Puppy Farms Puppy farms are unregistered breeding establishments that mass produce puppies in order to generate the highest amount of revenue. These farms, or mills, severely mistreat their animals and often produce puppies with little socialization skills and significantly increased health risks. To steer clear of these facilities, avoid pet stores, which often source stock from puppy farms because of the low cost. Also avoid any online advertisements for puppies at a low cost. If you do source a puppy from an online ad, call the breeder in advance and ask questions about the puppies, parents, and establishment to screen for any inconsistencies with industry standards. When you visit the breeder, if it comes to that, ask to have a look around and meet both parents in person. Is the space open? Do the parents look healthy? How many other dogs and puppies are there on the premises? Health Tests While Labs are generally healthy overall, it is important to confirm the parental health prior to breeding. If the breeder cannot show you certificates of health for both parents, adopting a puppy from those parents poses a risk for complications later on. The American Kennel Club recommends Labrador Retrievers get screened for: any hip and elbow defects that could indicate dysplasia heart disorders out of ordinary muscle weakness degenerative eye conditions. Make sure that the breeder can demonstrate certified health in each of these areas for each parent. The initial cost of requiring this level of screening for your puppy may be higher, but it will save you on veterinary bills down the road. Choosing Your Puppy Labrador Retrievers are friendly by nature and tend to get along well with other dogs. This breed very rarely shows aggression and must be provoked to do so. When it comes to children and other pets, a Labrador puppy would be a valuable family addition. Labs are companionable and socialize well. The Labrador Retriever is a high-energy breed and will need enough time and space each day to receive sufficient exercise. These exercise needs will continue to grow as your puppy matures. A Labrador is not designed to be an inside-only dog. This breed needs lots of activity to stay mentally and physically fit. Consider that your fully grown Lab will be between .We recommend that you take your Lab out for daily outdoor activities such as swimming and fetch. A Labrador that does not receive enough exercise time may rebel by engaging in destructive behaviors within the household. However, remember that the best-quality Labradors come from responsible breeders that produce only one or two litters per year. These breeders often have waiting lists due to high quality puppies and infrequent production. If you want the best which you should! Labradors are wonderful family dogs with lots of love for humans and other dogs. They are one of the lowest risk for health complications when properly screened, making them ideal as a long-term energy-filled companion. Considerations before jumping into the adoption of a Labrador puppy are how big your puppy will be when it reaches adulthood and the daily rigorous outdoor exercise it will require to keep it in peak physical and mental condition. Finding a brown and white Labradoodle puppy The brown and white Labradoodle coat color is rather rare and studying the genetics behind this color pattern might make your head spin a little at first. But learning about this topic will also make you appreciate your beautifully unique Labradoodle even more! What is a Brown and White Labradoodle? The brown and white Labradoodle is a hybrid or crossbred dog breed that carries genes from both the Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle dog breeds. In the case of Australian Labradoodles, Cocker Spaniels and several other dog breeds can also have a genetic influence. Brown and White Labradoodle Pattern Types Most brown and white Labradoodles will be classified as parti-colored, or approximately 50 percent brown with 50 percent white. Here, keep in mind that different Labradoodle breeders may use different terminology to describe what is essentially the same coat coloration. And not all Labradoodle breeders will break down the color percentages in as much detail as what you are about to read here. But for your general knowledge, these are the main terms you can expect to run across as you research the brown and white Labradoodle coat. True Parti True parti, also just called parti, refers to a brown and white Labradoodle with a bi-color coat where each color is represented in generally equal parts. Phantom A phantom brown and white Labradoodle coat starts with a single solid brown color base and then shows clearly defined markings in some or all of the following areas: Face On each side of the muzzle In a bowtie formation across the chin and chest On all four legs On all four feet The white portions of the coat must also be less than 50 percent of the total coat color. Not all Labradoodle breeders agree about what a true phantom coat looks like. In some cases, a breeder may call a phantom coat one where only brown and black colors are present. In this case, a coat where white is also present would be called a Phantom Parti. To make naming matters even less clear-cut, the tri-color coat that some breeders will call a Phantom Parti other breeders will call a Tri-color, Multi-color or Multi-pattern coat. Abstract An abstract brown and white Labradoodle will have brown predominating in the coat and the remainder less than 50 percent of the coat white. There is no uniform specification as to where the white markings must occur. Extreme Parti An extreme parti brown and white Labradoodle will have white as the dominant coat color. With accents of brown that can be located anywhere but are often located on the face or ears. Mismarks Mismarks refers to a coat color where the white markings are present, but do not conform to any of the other coat color patterns that have already been mentioned. White mismarks can occur with any base coat color, including brown. While mismarks in general are fairly common. However, two types of mismarks are sufficiently rare to be worth singling out for mention: Irish Spotting and Tuxedo. Irish Spotting The first of these rare mismarks is called Irish spotting. The amount of white can be pronounced or minimal. Tuxedo Mismarks An even rarer and more prized mismark is the tuxedo. As you are probably already imagining, the tuxedo mismark is a pronounced patch of white that appears on the chest. It then snakes up and around the back of the neck just like a tuxedo vest. Tuxedo mismarks often include white patches on the paws and face as well. Multi-Pattern A multi-pattern, multi-color or tri-color also called phantom parti coat will include a base color, a second color and white. In the case of a multi-pattern brown and white Labradoodle, what this would look like is a base coat color of brown with a secondary lighter brown color the phantom part and then white mismarks the tri or multi color part. Multi-Pattern Sable Last but not least, there is the multi-pattern sable coat color pattern. Here, the Labradoodle will have everything we just described in the previous section about the multi-pattern coat color plus the sable coat pattern. The sable coat pattern, in case you are not familiar, causes the tips of each hair to turn black. Sable is a coat pattern that tends to emerge over time and can sometimes cause the coat to strikingly change color as the Labradoodle grows up. Brown and White Labradoodle Genetics Now you know that a brown and white Labradoodle coat can look quite different depending on the amount of each color the coat contains. One brown and white Labradoodle may be categorized as a true parti coat while another brown and white Labradoodle may have white mismarks, an extreme parti or even an abstract coat color pattern. Each is actually quite rare. So rare, in fact, that it is often said no two brown and white Labradoodle coats will ever look exactly alike. All dogs have two basic pigments: black and red eumelanin and pheomelanin. Different genes will act on these pigments to produce every dog pattern and color we see in breeds today, including the lovely brown and white coat pattern. Labradoodle coat colors can change quite dramatically from puppyhood through young adulthood. Sometimes this happens more than once as the puppy grows up. Not surprisingly, this trait can make it challenging for even an experienced and genetically savvy Labradoodle breeder to accurately predict exactly what each puppy will grow up to look like. The most common coat color change is a lightening of the base coat color. A commonly cited secondary change is the development of highlights when the coat is repeatedly exposed to ultraviolet light sunlight. For example, a Labradoodle may be born with a very dark brown coat. As the dog grows up, white patches begin to appear. At the same time, the dark brown base color begins to progressively lighten. Before you know it, you are looking at a brown and white Labradoodle! Brown and White Labradoodle Temperament Like their coat color, the temperament traits that Labradoodle puppies will inherit from their parents is impossible to predict. Luckily, the Lab and Poodle parent breeds are relatively similar, so we have a general idea of what you can expect. Brown and white Labradoodle puppies will be just as friendly, energetic, and intelligent as any other color. But, take a look at the specific dogs being bred to see how your puppy might turn out. As long as you socialize and train your doodle pup from a young age, they will be friendly, affectionate, and loyal to you. This breed is best trained with positive reward methods, as they are eager to please and most often very food-motivated. They do best in active families with plenty of time to spend with them. If left alone for too long, or too often, they can develop separation anxiety. And, if not exercised properly, they can display destructive behaviors like barking, digging, and more. Brown and White Labradoodle Health Brown and white Labradoodles can be prone to the same health issues as their parent breeds. So, owners should be aware of the following issues: Hip and elbow dysplasia.

They are witty, stubborn and super lazy. Although, they are super dominant, it's very rare to see a frenchie with aggression and, with consistency they usually submit rather quickly. How do I housebreak my French Bulldog? Frenchies are stubborn, which means they can be hard to house train. So, consistency is key. We spent years researching food, so you don't have to. How do I find a good French Bulldog breeder? There are many french bulldog breeders, and finding the right one can be super difficult. Ultimately, it comes down to who you are comfortable with. There is a wide variety of breeders, each with a varying definition of quality. Here's what we recommend: ask for references and ask a million questions--any good breeder will take the time to educate and answer all your questions. How do I pick the best French Bulldog puppy from a litter? We get this question a lot. We get it, choosing the right puppy can be very overwhelming. It is best to tell the breeder what you're looking for in companion, personality, and lifestyle to better assist your picking process. Do male dogs or female dogs make better pets? Either sex is pretty similar and would make a great addition to your family. We want to make this a memorable time for you, and your entire family. From the day they're born until the day they're in your arms, we keep you updated throughout the whole process! Everything from, ultrasound and x-ray pictures to FaceTime, live videos, pictures after they're here and more! Here at Blue Frenchies US, we strive to breed quality, healthy, loving French Bulldogs to provide to loving, forever family homes around the country. Hi and welcome to our website from the team at Blue Frenchies US. We specialise in breeding beautiful, healthy Blue French Bulldog puppies. We offer a nationwide delivery service chargeable and have delivered several puppies around the country, including Boston, Chicago, Texas and New York City. As breeders we have over 10 years experience breeding French Bulldogs and have been involved in the breeding of over 80 puppies. After visiting a friend in the UK, we fell in love with their French Bulldogs and knew we had to have one! We visited the UK for a couple of litters to learn how the breeding and whelping process works in preparation for starting Blue Frenchies US. We welcomed our first litter in at the beginning of the covid pandemic and our reputation is quickly building. Our puppies are brought up in a busy family home, around other dogs and plenty of family including children and friends. Our dogs are our pets and receive the upmost love and attention every day of the year and are constantly the stars of the show whether we have guests at home or are out on walks. Our dogs live inside, year round. When breeding, we go the extra mile to ensure that from as early as insemination, all the way until the day our puppies leave to their new forever homes, it is the most relaxed, comfortable and clean experience for our dogs and puppies. We hope you enjoy our website and find everything helpful. If you have any questions, click the contact us link at the top of any page or call us via the numbers on the contact us page. We offer standard and fluffy Award- winning Award-winning bloodline, guaranteed health Every TomKings parent dog has passed a rigorous selection and examination process before we started our elite breeding program to build the healthiest and most Frenchie-authentic gene pool for our TomKings Frenchies. All of our adult dogs and puppies get the highest quality food and supplements to ensure immaculate health, and they are checked by our vet on a weekly basis. Our purebred French bulldogs come with a TomKings Health Guarantee, that is valid against all genetic illnesses. Instead, we treat all of our Frenchies as family members , let them roam freely in our vast green garden and rest with us in our house. Our Frenchie puppies can play as much as they want and we raise them by teaching all the good manners among dogs and people, including children. Maternal love 12 weeks of maternal love and professional care Spending 3 whole months after birth with their caring mother and siblings ensures that TomKings puppies develop a healthy dog-personality and a well-balanced nature. Before joining their new families in the USA and elsewhere, our Frenchies get all the puppy vaccinations, are dewormed and treated against parasites. They travel in a temperature-controlled and pressurized room not stacked on top of suitcases , and they are watched all along the flight. During layovers, the puppies are taken off the plane and placed in a pet hotel, where they are given fresh food, water and lots of pampering. They are sweeter than any airport scenes in romantic movies. Feel free to reach out to us any time with your questions or to share your joy: we answer you immediately 16 hours a day. Welcome Back Policy Any good breeder would be more than happy to take back the puppy if you are unable to provide them with the care and love they need due to problems such as financial or personal. Having learned how to find a reputable breeder, we have curated a list of some of the best Goldendoodle Breeders in Illinois to assist you in your search. Taking pride in their years of dedicated breed work, the breeder has helped hundreds of families get a Goldendoodle they will cherish their entire lives. This also ensures that the puppy is at no risk from health issues such as hip dysplasia and other inherited disease. Additionally, the breeder ensures that the puppies are socialized from day one so that they will become accustomed to human touch. Finally, ENS and other techniques are used to increase stress tolerance by stimulating the neurological system. They also provide lifetime breeder support, expert vet care, and a 2-year genetic health guarantee to put your mind at ease. Contact Details:. Learn more This well-established breeder has been operating in Central Illinois since and is now one of the biggest Goldendoodle breeders in the state. They also breed Bernedoodles. All the puppies are well-socialized and undergo extensive health tests, so you know that your puppy will come with all the health clearances you expect. Unfortunately, this breeder has a slightly higher pricing structure than many other breeders, but they do boast plenty of positive testimonials and reviews. The best puppies undergo proper health testing, and both parent dogs have rigorous health checks before they are approved as breeding animals. What Influences Goldendoodle Prices? There are a number of factors that influence the price of Goldendoodle puppies in Illinois, including: The size of the dog, when fully grown Color Generation of the puppy Coat type and likely hypoallergenic qualities The most expensive puppies tend to be those with curly coats that look like Teddy Bears since those types are usually the lightest shedders. That makes these pups extremely popular with allergy sufferers, reflecting their price. Unusual coat colors are also more expensive, especially parti, red, and merle. Regarding health testing, both parent dogs should be screened for common genetic diseases common to both breeds to reduce the chances of the puppies inheriting those problems. Size Is Important Most dog owners want a small dog, so the smaller varieties are therefore the most popular and most expensive. Unfortunately, that trend has pushed up the price of these pups. The possibility of making a quick buck has tempted backyard breeders and puppy mills to churn out multiple Mini Goldendoodles as quickly as they can. Most of the breeding dogs used by these operations are not health-checked, which has adversely affected the breed. Nothing is Guaranteed! So, you could spend a fortune on a curly-coated blue puppy only to end up with a wavy-coated white adult! Of course, every puppy is loveable and will give you just as much pleasure no matter what their color or coat type. The puppies were supposed to be bred from a purebred Poodle father and a purebred Show Cocker spaniel. The lady chose a puppy and took her home. In fact, the puppy was much larger, a totally different color, and far more demanding when it came to exercise and training than the breed she wanted. So, that could be something you want to ask about if your puppy is not an F1 generation dog. But is the advertiser genuine, or is it a backyard breeder or puppy mill? Here are a few telltale red flags to watch out for. Multiple Breeds Most genuine breeders only offer puppies of one breed. Any duplications can be a sign of a puppy mill. Remote Locations Advertisements for puppies should contain a landline telephone number, not just a mobile. Puppy mills are often hidden away in remote locations, so always make sure that the telephone number matches the area where the puppies are being kept. Copy Cats Backyard breeding operations often use the same adverts, cutting and pasting details of their puppies and even using the same text for advertising other breeds. Goldendoodle pups should be eight weeks of age before they can receive their first shots. If the advertisement tells you that the puppies are less than eight weeks of age and have been vaccinated, the seller is most likely a backyard breeder. Other Red Flags Other red flags to be aware of include: Puppies that are very cheaply priced are usually from backyard breeders or puppy mills. These businesses make their money by producing as many puppies as possible, as quickly as possible, with the idea of making the most of whatever the current trend is. Often, puppy mills expect you to meet them somewhere shady, such as at a shopping mall car park or in a gas station. Puppy farms often use photos or even videos of puppies that are not even theirs to sell as a marketing tool on their website. Furthermore, before you can be put on the waiting list, you need to be interviewed and approved by the breeder. That should indicate that your puppy will be free from any hereditary genetic health conditions that typically affect the parent breeds. Ideally, your puppy should come with vaccination paperwork, as well as proof of flea and tick prevention treatment and deworming. Always ask the breeder if you can see the mom and puppies together. You also want to check out the father so that you can assess his temperament. That report includes many puppy mills and backyard breeders that have been closed down or taken through the courts for malpractice. If you decide to try out other ethical breeders from other states and want to avoid falling into the hands of these puppy mills, you may want to pick from our list of Goldendoodle breeders from nearby places. Jasper helped Luke get through the hardest days of his life, he made him smile, laugh and the best cuddle partner there ever was. Sadly Luke was called home to heaven on July 21, .Luke was never alone with the help of Jasper, his parents Chad, Nikki and older brother Caleb. I just wanted to write a few lines and give you an update on our Stella Dalisha. She will be 17 weeks in two days and 20 lbs. We are just in love with her. She is exactly what our little family needed. She fit right in with her big brother and sister Titus and Margo. Her and Titus have become the best of friends and are inseparable. We all laugh at her silliness and her little facial expressions. She walks around on her hind legs begging to be picked up and carried. She loves to go for rides in the car and any squeaky toy she can find. She has one more round of puppy shots before I get her spayed. Everyone at the veterinary office thinks she is just a delight. Thank you for raising such wonderful bernedoodles. Thank you so much for our little Stella Mae. We love her so much! From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A Goldendoodle is a mixed-breed dog, a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Poodle hybrids have become increasingly popular and it is likely that the combination of Golden Retriever and Poodle has been duplicated by breeders in various countries at different times. History The first Goldendoodles were likely due to accidental breeding between Golden Retrievers and Poodles. The Goldendoodle is usually bred to be a family companion dog. Some are bred and selected for careers in service to humans as Guide Dogs, Therapy Dogs and other types of assistance dogs. Many people select a Goldendoodle because they love Golden Retrievers, but would prefer a dog that sheds less hair. Some have lost their Golden Retriever or Poodle to cancer or inherited disease, and hope that the hybrid cross will give their new pet a better chance of reducing those risks. Others may desire a dog that may not affect their allergies, although not all Goldendoodles will exhibit the low shedding coat type of the Standard Poodle. Cross-breed dogs do not exhibit standard characteristics, and while Goldendoodles may shed less than a Golden Retriever, the degree of shedding will vary from dog to dog. Grooming requirements are as varied as coat types, with the least shedding coat types requiring more regular grooming than the coat types that shed. There have been no studies to date verifying that any canine is completely hypoallergenic. Goldendoodles often are good swimmers, a characteristic of both parent breeds. Like any other cross-breed, the Goldendoodle varies from individual to individual, displaying differences in size, coat type, and color. A Goldendoodle s size is generally somewhere between that of the Poodle and the Golden Retriever parents, and the range includes standard, medium and miniature. Some standard-sized Goldendoodles have weighed over pounds. Upon reaching adulthood, a standard Goldendoodle will often weigh 45 pounds or more; a medium Goldendoodle will weigh between pounds, and a miniature Goldendoodle will weigh approximately 15 to 30 pounds. Goldendoodles have different coat types: wool, fleece, hair or a combination. The wool coat is more like a traditional poodle coat. A fleece coat can be either curly, wavy or straight, with hair more similar to that of a golden retriever. As a general rule, the more curly the Goldendoodle s coat, the less shedding there will be as the dog has more features of the poodle coat. Common colors are white, cream, apricot, gold, and red. Less common colors are black and silver. Rarer colors include brown, parti, and phantom. Goldendoodles are classified as various types depending on the breed of the Goldendoodle s parents. Temperament Similar to the Golden Retriever and the Poodle. Intelligent, affable, trainable, very human oriented, yet friendly toward other dogs. Moderately high energy dogs, much like their parent breeds. The Goldendoodle is not a purebred; rather, it is a specific type of mixed-breed dog or crossbreed. Some breeders prefer to restrict breeding to first generation F1 dogs i. Other breeders maintain that a Backcross F1B Goldendoodle i. Still other breeders are attempting to take this one step further and develop the Goldendoodle as a breed via selective breeding. We specialize in breeding Mini Goldendoodles as well as a few other breeds. We also have partnered up with several other high quality breeders that raise mini goldendoodle pups that meet our strict genetic criteria and testing. So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Labradors Are Cooperative With Other Pets If you are bringing a Lab puppy home to other pets or bring other pets home to a Labrador, you can rest assured that your Labrador Retriever will not cause any trouble. Labs are very cooperative with other pets and consider them as family members. Their even temperament and lovable personality lead to cordial behavior with other pets, no matter which breed they belong to. If trained well, a Labrador can even live happily with a cat in the same house. Twice a year, your Labrador Retriever will blow its coat, leading to dog hair everywhere in your house. If you are allergic to dog hair, you might want to think twice before bringing a Labrador Retriever home. However, heavy shedding can be controlled by grooming your pet regularly. The skin of your pet produces natural oils that end up giving a peculiar dog smell. Moreover, the years of a Labrador Retriever give off a yeasty smell. However, if the smell gets too strong, make sure you take your Lab to a vet for a checkup as it may be due to skin or dental infections. The double coat of your Labrador Retriever will block the odor, making them smell more than most breeds. Daily Exercising Needs Labradors are high-energy dogs that have been used by hunters for several years. They need their daily dose of exercise to remain fit and healthy. Once you bring an adorable Labrador Retriever home, take it out on at least two minute walks every day. As the food intake of these dogs is also pretty high, it is important for them to burn their calories to prevent health issues like obesity. While food acts as a key motivator while training a Lab puppy, the motivation may also become too strong when the puppy grows up. Never make the mistake of leaving food open and available to an adult Labrador as it will never know when to stop. Overeating can make your Labrador obese and lead to a host of health complications. Watch what your pet eats and structure its diet to give it a long and healthy life. Prone To Separation Anxiety While Labrador Retrievers love spending time with their owners, their love often turns into separation anxiety if they are left alone for too long. They are not the kind of dogs you tie outside your house. They need human company and love spending time with you. Leaving them alone can make them feel useless and lonely. Always ensure that your Lab puppy has someone to keep it company. They Need Space Labradors often need space to walk around due to their size and energy. You cannot and should not keep your pet confined in a closed space for too long. If you are planning to bring a Lab puppy home, make sure you have enough space for it when it grows up. If you live in a small apartment, make sure you take your Labrador out more often to help it move around freely. They are food-motivated dogs who will never say no to anything that is edible! Always ensure that your Labrador Retriever eats well without going overboard, irrespective of how old it is. It is also important to be mindful of the number of meals you feed your Labrador Retriever. Here is the dietary routine you should follow while feeding your Lab at different stages of its life: Up To 2 Months When your Labrador Retriever is still a puppy, it is advisable to feed it four meals per day. This is the stage where your pet does the most of its growing up. Unlike most other breeds, it is not advisable to free-feed your Labrador at this age. Labradors tend to eat a lot at all ages and you should not give them more food than what is absolutely necessary. Over 6 Months By the time your Labrador turns six months old, you should reduce its food intake to two meals per day. Do not give your Lab unlimited access to food and track what it eats all day. While a few dogs show signs of pain and lameness, others continue living a normal life. Labradors with this condition should not be bred any further. Elbow dysplasia leads to joint laxity and painful lameness. Cataracts Like humans, Labradors are also susceptible to cataracts. While they do not impair vision, they do lead to severe vision loss in dogs. It is not a major issue and your pet will recover from it in a few days. Ear infections This breed of dog office from ear infections because of the breeding ground for microorganisms such as bacteria. Hence, they are always recommended to clean their ears and keep them dry. It starts with your Labrador Retriever getting night-blind and makes it lose daytime vision over time. The health issue manifests itself in your pet by making it tired and stiff as it walks. You may also see your Lab puppy collapse during training or exercise sessions. While there is no treatment to fully cure myopathy in dogs, the best way to tackle is to keep your Labrador warm and at rest. Epilepsy This is another common health issue your Labrador can encounter, leading to mild or severe seizures. The fits can be identified by noticing your pet running around frantically as if it is being chased. If you notice such seizures in your pet, take it to a vet at once. Joint problems Labradors commonly suffer from the disease of joint problems especially at the elbow and at the hip regions. This health issue is also known as elbow or hip dysplasia. The conditions are severe because it starts affecting the joints and stop the normal movement of the body. These health issues are also responsible for inducing pain and prohibition of movement of all the body parts especially the elbow and legs. Obesity and Bloat These two health issues are quite severe for Labrador dogs. Unhealthy eating habits are highly responsible for affecting dogs severely. The stomach gets twisted or becomes swelled when the eating habits are compromised at regular intervals. Hence, feed them regularly with healthy meals. The puppies will generally be larger than the typical puppy. And as adults, they usually weigh between to pounds — the male being on the larger side. They are tall dogs standing between 25 to 35 inches. They are lean dogs with very long legs and large chests, and they have broad heads. The Great Dane Golden Retriever mix has a long and deep muzzle, and their eyes are generally brown almond-shaped with the friendliest, most gentle expression. Their ears are medium-sized and floppy, which makes them prone to ear infections if not checked and cleaned regularly. Their tail is broad at the base and usually slightly curved at the end. The Great Golden Dane can have varied coats, which range from the short, single-layer coat of the Great Dane to the short, dense undercoat with a weather-resistant outer layer of medium-length glossy fur of the Golden Retriever. The color of their coat ranges from black, white, blue, or brindle. As with any dog, interactions between the Great Golden Dane, young children, and other dogs should be watched to ensure the safety of all those involved in the exchange. However, just because of their sheer size and overfriendliness, the Great Golden Retriever can be pretty intimidating and fearful to small children and other dogs. So, it is better to be safe than sorry than to have regret after something happens. Therefore, supervision is always recommended. While this breed loves to run, play, and be active most of the day, they also love to lounge and be on the couch with you. They seem to be oblivious to their large stature and strength, and you will see them display many of the same behavioral patterns you would expect to see in a pound dog! So be forewarned — be ready for plenty of petting and cuddles every time you sit or lie down. And, oh, by the way, the Great Golden Dane thinks they are lap dogs, so be prepared to share your lap while sitting as well! Because of their gentle and easygoing nature, the Great Golden Dane is sometimes known as the gentle giant. While they are brave and alert, they are never considered to be aggressive. So, it is safe to say your Great Golden Dane will also be a shedder as well. Also, it would probably be a good idea to invest in a robotic vacuum cleaner to help keep up with all the many fibers of joy and love in addition to the hair they emit. The amount of shedding also depends on the type of coat your dog has. The coat will be short and straight if your dog has more genes from the Great Dane parent. Then you might get away with brushing every two to three days. However, if your dog has more genes from the Golden Retriever parent, the coat will be somewhat longer and wavier, so it is best to brush your day daily. No matter which parental breed is dominant in your pet, the Great Dane Golden Retriever Mix is sure to have long, floppy ears. If left unchecked for long periods of time, these types of ears can be prone to yeast infections. At the same time, it is also a good idea to check their teeth. Regular proper teeth brushing will save you money in the long run! This will prevent many trips to the vet for teeth cleaning when your dog needs to be put to sleep. Consider having a spa day once a week with your pet where they get their usual brushing in addition to an ear and teeth cleaning. And speaking of their teeth, you might consider giving your pet a Greenie daily. Your dog will think it is a yummy treat. And since your pet will always want to be close to you, you will want their breath to be smelling fresh! Consider bathing your dog, at a minimum, once every three months. Always make sure to use a gentle shampoo formulated just for dogs. You can wash your dog as frequently as every other week. But you want to be careful. Too frequent bathing leads to dry skin, opening up a whole other can of worms for your pet. Let your pet be the deciding vote — if they are smelly — bathe them! The last thing you want is an unruly, hyperactive large dog thinking they are the alpha dog and taking over your household! Or worse, an aggressively friendly dog that scares your neighbors and terrorized their children. The good news — the Great Golden Dane is easy to train — they come from two very trainable parental breeds. Socialization and positive reinforcement are the keys to the successful training of your pet. They love to be rewarded either with yummy treats or verbal praise from their owners. Be consistent with your training and be aware of the tone of your voice. Never yell at your dog when you are working on training them. Crate training is essential with this breed, as with most breeds of dogs. You do not want your Great Golden Dane to have free roaming rights of the house as a puppy, especially when you are not home. So, start crate training at an early age, and make their crate a safe haven for them to enjoy retreating to. And be prepared to get the largest crate available. You want their crate to be as welcoming and comfortable as possible. Great Golden Danes are extremely intelligent. The Great Golden Dane learns new tricks and commands very fast at any age and will eagerly perform for you for treats or affection! Exercise is a must for any breed of dog. While the Great Golden Dane is not as hyperactive as their parental breed Golden Retriever, they are not as laid back as their parental breed Great Dane — they lay somewhere in the middle. You should expect to provide at least two daily walks and some playtime with your dog. Keep in mind this breed is highly playful as puppies, and because they grow very quickly, a strenuous activity that involves a lot of jumping and leaping should be kept to a minimum during their first year. Strenuous activities during their puppy phase can cause a lot of stress and damage to their joints. Walks should be shorter as a puppy, maybe two walks of 20 to 30 minutes, and avoid any roughhouse type of play. The gives their body mass time to catch up to their bone development and hopefully delay or stop any joint problems later on. The Great Golden Dane craves human companionship, so this dog does not do well if they are left alone for long periods. You might want to consider hiring a dog walker or enrolling your dog in doggie daycare if you must be away from home for long periods. Since the Great Golden Dane is a large dog, they also need to roam around and investigate, so they do best in homes with a large fenced-in yard versus apartment living. Prepare yourself to walk an average of 10 miles per week with your pet and strive for a minimum of two minute walks per day and some playtime with your pet. It is believed that the offspring of mixing two purebred dogs will be healthier than the parental breeds, but this is not always the case, so it is good to be familiar with the minor and major health conditions that might occur in the Great Golden Dane. So, if both parents were in excellent health, the odds are the mixed-bred puppy would be healthy. That is why it is essential to ensure you are dealing with a reputable breeder. Serious Health Conditions to Look For Bloat As with all large dogs, bloat is always a significant health condition to look for. Bloat is gastric dilation-volvulus, and it is the twisting of the stomach. This is the number one killer of Great Danes, and sadly it can be easily prevented by watching how fast your dog eats. Because of their size and ferocious hunger, large dogs tend to inhale their food in one gulp! There are special dog bowls designed to slow down their eating, and this helps to prevent bloat! Bloat is one life-threatening condition that all dog owners should be on the lookout for as it is preventable! Hip Dysplasia As mentioned before, this disease is common in large and giant dog breeds. Reputable breeders will test for congenital conditions like this to have healthy litters. While genetics is a primary factor in determining if your Great Golden Dane will have hip dysplasia, proper nutrition, and supplements can aid in decreasing the odds also. And be mindful that over-exercising in the puppy stage can also increase the odds of this disease. With regular vet checkups, proper nutrition, and exercise, these conditions should be caught early if they exist and can be treated. Generally speaking, this breed is relatively healthy, and their lifespan ranges between 8 to 10 years. These dogs are big, devoted, and smart. They are receptive to most people, both adults and children, and pets. But are they the right dog for you and your family? If you can answer YES to the following questions, then YES, they will make the perfect addition to your family: Do you have a nice-sized fenced-in yard? The Great Golden Dane is a big dog, and they need time outside to explore and play. Are you active? It was mentioned before that this breed needs lots of exercises. Preferably two 30 to minute walks a day plus some additional play time like catching a ball or frisbee or running an agility course. But remember, since this breed can be prone to hip dysplasia, keep strenuous exercise to a bare minimum during the puppy stage and opt for gentler activities like walking them. Are you home most of the time? Are you able to spend time with your pet? This breed does not like being left home alone for long periods of time, and they like to be with their family. If you have to work away from home for eight or more hours and you really want this dog breed, be prepared to enroll them in doggie daycare so as not to be alone all day. This large breed dog loves being around people so much they think they are lap dogs! Conclusion The Great Golden Dane is a hybrid of two wonderful parental breeds. Some might even consider them to be canine heroes. How could they not be — they are loving, energetic, and loyal. They love to be around their human family and treat each family member equally, loving from the smallest child to the oldest adult. So please, while they would never intentionally harm a child, they accidentally could hurt one just due to their sheer size and energy levels, so never leave them unattended around young children. These dogs make an excellent addition to a very active family. They would love to jog, hike, run, and walk right alongside their owners every day. And they can be creatures of habit. If you run every morning to jumpstart your day, be prepared for your Great Golden Dane to remind you it is time for your run in the morning. And if you like to spend Saturdays going for an all-day hike, be prepared for your pet to remember it is Saturday Funday and time to go for that hike. These dogs have a status of a relatively rare designer mix breed dog, so it might be challenging to find one for adoption. But please, take the time to check out the breeder and make sure they are reputable, and that your dog comes from two healthy parents. This breed is certainly worth the effort to find for anyone who loves the qualities the Great Golden Dane has to share with you! Other Golden Retrievers Mixes. As with every designer dog breed, the best way to get to know a Great Golden Dane is by understanding its parent breeds — in this case, the Great Dane and Golden Retriever. One member of its breed, Zeus, measured an astounding 44 inches tall from paw to shoulder! Originally bred as a hunting dog in 16th century Germany, the Great Dane was quickly recognized for its friendly disposition and has become a popular choice as a companion animal in the present day. The Golden Retriever, true to its name, was bred with the purpose of retrieving fowl for Scottish hunters in the 19th century. Golden Retrievers are exceptionally active dogs, sometimes requiring over two hours of vigorous activity per day. Where does this combination of genes leave our Great Golden Dane, then? Borrowing from both sides of its family tree, the Great Golden is a large but not giant dog that is friendly, intelligent, and highly energetic. If you do choose to bring a Great Golden into your home, be prepared for plenty of cuddles any time you sit or lie down. They love learning new tricks and will eagerly perform for treats or affection. But due to their unique intermixing of traits, these dogs also seem to have developed a keen sense of loyalty that makes them a fantastic companion animal. Are These Dogs Good for Families? By no fault of their own, these dogs can be somewhat clumsy and accidentally knock smaller children over. You may occasionally see them boss smaller dogs around, but a firm voice and a small amount of training will stop this behavior quickly. Be prepared to serve them four to six cups of food per day, broken into multiple servings. Thankfully, the Great Golden Dane lies somewhere in the middle. They are typically happy with around an hour a day of walking or playing in the backyard, with the occasional game of fetch thrown in for good measure. Some potential health problems to be aware of include: Minor Conditions. His mommy was very sick and could no longer take care of him. He was by far the worst behaved pup I've ever known, but he was so sweet and cuddly I just couldn't give up on him. He taught me more about love than even my mother. By the time this photo was taken he had grown into a slightly rambunctious, but gentle and sweet natured adult. When my daughter's cat had kittens he fussed over them as if they were his own. For the first time in his life something had more energy than he did, and they wore him out regularly. My daughter still has one of the kittens from this litter and I swear they always remembered each other and cuddled up together whenever they got to visit one another my daughter and I live nearly miles apart. It is a cross between the Golden Retriever and the Great Dane. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. Coat color typically has a base of various shades of yellow from cream to golden, but they can also appear in black, and in some cases, have light grayish shades as seen in some Great Danes. A brindle pattern is also possible. Black Great Dane Golden Retriever Mix will also have a coat that closely resembles a Great Dane which is single-coated, short, smooth, and shiny. Golden Dane temperament and personality Great Dane Retriever is a friendly and affectionate breed that parallels the personality of the parent breeds. They are very playful and show a good amount of energy but can easily plop next to you and be a lap dog. They love to be cuddled and do not handle being alone agreeably. Do Great Golden Dane make great family pets? Yes, the Great Golden Dane do make great family pets. Both the parent breeds are known for their calm and gentle personalities and it would not be too far-fetched to say that the offspring would inherit those traits. However, due to their size, small children should not be left alone with this breed to prevent them from getting knocked over especially, during playing. Labradanes can also get along with other pets in the house that they grew up with but may have a tendency to chase smaller animals. Are Great Dane Retriever Mix aggressive? Golden Great Dane training Golden Retriever mixed with Great Dane is an intelligent breed and easy to train because they are motivated to please their family. They may show stubborn behavior at times but with early training and the use of positive reinforcements, they would quickly respond to new commands. The ideal age to start their training is around 7 to 8 weeks of age. You can spread out their physical activity across the day by taking them for a brisk walk in the morning and some off-leash playing in a secure area later in the day. It is important to note that growing Labradane puppies should not over-exercised to avoid injuring their developing bones. The only time it is safe to let your Golden Retriever Great Dane Mix be off-leash is when he or she is playing in your backyard or patio. Some towns or counties have zoning laws that prohibit physical fences. If this is the case, you can still keep your K9 pals safe and sound by installing a wireless dog fence which will also help keep your pups safe and contained within your backyard. Many dog owners actually prefer the invisible dog fence because it can adapt to all types of terrains, be it a mountainous, hilly, or flat grassy terrain. Great Dane Mix with Golden Retriever living conditions Due to their large size, Golden Retriever mixed with a Great Dane would do well in a home with a spacious backyard, but apartment living is possible as long as their physical and social needs are met. Great Dane Mix with Golden Retriever are well-mannered breed so they can easily adapt to any living situation. If you let your Great Dane Mix with Golden Retriever roam freely and play outside in the backyard during the day, it is a good idea to invest in an electronic dog door so that your pups can head outside and come back into the house on their own. Canine owners can program curfew hours so that their four-legged friends can enjoy the outdoors during the day while stay safe indoors at night. So whether you work from home or at the office, the electronic doggy door will save you tons of time and headache of frequently opening or closing the door for your canine friends throughout the day. Great Dane Mixed with Golden Retriever grooming and cleaning Whether your Great Dane mixed with a Golden Retriever is single or double-coated, they need to be brushed several times weekly to keep their fur shiny and in good condition. Brushing their coat also helps to distribute natural oil throughout their bodies. You can use a brush with a rubberized bristle to remove any dead hairs or a deshedding tool like a Furminator , during heavy shedding seasons. They require daily grooming, obedience training from a young age, and regular vet visits to prevent and detect potential health concerns such as hip dysplasia, bloat, and heart diseases. Great Golden Danes need at least miles of walking, 15 minutes of interactive playtime, and at least 60 minutes of exercise per day to stay healthy and happy. They are even-tempered and friendly around children, but may not be compatible with other pets. It is important to consider their exercise and socialization needs before bringing home a puppy. They require daily brushing, occasional baths, and regular ear cleaning in order to maintain their coats. Obedience training from puppies will help them adapt better to life with other animals or small children around. Although they are generally healthy breeds, they may suffer from hip dysplasia or some eye diseases if not taken care of properly. To keep these active pups happy and healthy requires plenty of exercise along with four to six cups per day for meals! While their exuberant personalities make them great family companions overall, it is important for owners to understand that this designer dog needs both human companionship and room to roam in order to experience its best qualities! Appearance and Maintenance of Great Golden Danes If you are the proud owner of a Great Golden Dane, then you already know that they require special care to ensure their health and happiness. Ear cleaning should be done as needed to help prevent bacterial build-up, which can lead to infection. A short, dense undercoat is hidden beneath a single layer of long guard hairs, which can be brushed using the correct techniques. For bathing frequency, use shampoo specifically designed for dogs with sensitive skin types like this breed. Grooming tools should include a slicker brush and pin brush, as well as scissors or clippers depending on the desired length of hair. This may require professional care from an experienced groomer or a vet visit in order to avoid discomfort for the animal involved. The daily diet should also take into account these preventative measures when considering how much food needs providing per day in terms of nutrition required by this mix between Great Dane and Golden Retriever breeds! It is important to use a soft cloth or tweezers when cleaning the ears of Great Golden Danes, who have almond-shaped eyes. Invest in the proper supplies, such as cotton balls and an ear cleansing solution specifically made for dogs. Clean the ears only once per week, taking care not to go too deep into the canal. Use warm water with no soap or other chemicals that could irritate delicate skin. Be aware of any risks associated with overzealous ear cleaning, which can lead to inflammation and infections. By following these steps, you will help maintain good health in this beloved breed of Great Dane Golden Retriever mix. These dogs make great family pets due to their even temperament, but it is important to make sure they get plenty of socialization with both humans and other animals so that they can learn healthy boundaries. They are also highly compatible with other pets in the home when given proper exposure early on. Suitability for Families With their affectionate and loyal nature, Great Golden Danes make excellent family pets for active owners who can provide plenty of exercise and companionship. They are known to be friendly around children but need socialization early on in life. Exercise requirements must also be met as these popular breeds of dogs require a great deal of physical activity every day. Health issues should also be taken into consideration, such as hip dysplasia, bloat, or diabetes, among others. Grooming needs should not be overlooked either; daily brushing is essential along with occasional baths and ear cleaning sessions. With the right amount of care and attention from their owners, Great Golden Danes will make wonderful additions to any home with young children looking for a furry companion with an undeniably friendly disposition! Compatibility With Other Pets Be sure to properly socialize your Great Golden Dane with other pets early on, as they may not always be compatible. They are active dogs and have a tendency to want to dominate small animals. Great Danes were originally bred as hunting dogs, while Flat Coated Retrievers were used by Scottish hunters. Both breeds make up the hybrid that is now known as the Great Golden Dane — an intelligent pup who is also loyal and loving towards humans but can sometimes display aggression towards unfamiliar pets or those smaller than them. By ensuring a proper introduction process between your pet pooch and its furry friends at home, you will increase his chance of having great relationships between all members of his pack — human or animal!
