Andy's foster - to - adopt success story written by his forever family: "Early in , we started the process to find our Golden Retriever girl a companion and adopt a rescue dog in need of a good home. We submitted an application to FRR and subsequently had a virtual home visit. We were impressed by the thoroughness of both, as it gave us confidence that FFR clearly had the best interest of their animals in mind. While the timing was less than ideal due to some upcoming summer plans, we agreed to foster one of the pups for as long as three weeks. Two days later, a tiny black male pup with a spotted white chest was delivered to our home. He looked like he is wearing a tuxedo. He came with the name, Andy. He was a world-class cuddler who immediately began to work his way into our hearts. Our golden retriever soon welcomed him into our home as well. Within a couple of weeks, it became apparent that this foster puppy was going to be adopted as a member of our family. It also became apparent that Andy was the perfect name for him. It just fit, not only in his cute appearance but also in his behavior and antics. Andy was one of a number of puppies that we have brought into our home over the years, and we have always been sticklers about health, wellness and neutering. The first step in the adoption process is to complete the online adoption application link below. The next step is the in-home visit. This non-refundable donation helps to offset the costs associated with making our dogs ready to meet adopters, including providing veterinary care, boarding, and other needs. After your application is received, one of our volunteers will contact you. It may take days to be contacted, as we receive many applications and volunteers are spread across many duties. Please carefully review this eligibility information prior to submitting your adoption application: GRCGLARescue does not adopt dogs to homes with children under 7 years old unless we know that a particular dog has a solid, positive history living successfully with kids of a similar age to those in the potential adopter's home. As a rescue we receive very few dogs that meet this criterion. Finding a dog who is going to be safe with your kids will likely make your adoption process longer. This policy is for the safety and well-being of your families and our dogs. If you're patient and have realistic expectations about adoption, we'll be very happy to work with you. Because we do require pre-adoption screening and post-adoption follow-up, we cannot support adoptions outside of this service area. GRCGLARescue does not adopt dogs to rental applicants without written proof that the landlord will permit a dog the size of a Golden Retriever in their rental abode. This proof can be a copy of the lease having a clause allowing such a dog, or a separate written document of landlord approval and must be provided to one of our volunteers prior to a home visit being scheduled. Additionally, we will require written proof of any additional pet security deposit required by the landlord being paid. Unfortunately, most applicants will not get a dog from us. The more flexible you are about your ideal dog the better your chances become. We recognize that you may be working with other rescues, as well as breeders, and visiting animal shelters too. All dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and vet-checked prior to adoption.

Health and breeding information Breed diseases of the Sheltie Shepherd Sheltie Shepherds are becoming increasingly popular because of their intelligence, friendliness and boldness, and great character. They are also referred to as Shelties. However, these dogs can also have some health problems. Therefore, it is important to understand what diseases can affect these hybrids and what can be done to keep them healthy and happy. This hybrid breed is prone to several eye diseases, including hereditary cataracts. Other eye diseases that can occur include retinopathy, glaucoma, and pigmented retinal epithelium abnormalities. Some hybrids may also be prone to severe bone and joint disease. Often these diseases occur at an early age. The most common are dysplasia of the hip and elbow joints, and osteoarthritis. The Sheltie Shepherd is also prone to allergies, especially atopy. Atopic dogs suffer from chronic allergic reactions that make them more susceptible to infections. It is therefore important to monitor the pet's condition and choose an allergy-friendly food. It is also prone to endocrine disorders, atypical Cushings disease, diabetes mellitus and liver disease. The best way to prevent potential problems is to have a regular visit to the veterinarian. This will allow further difficulties to be detected and treated early. A good veterinarian can also perform and recommend tests to check the dog's genes if the dog's parents are not known. Regular exercise, a good diet, and an appropriate level of care will also help prevent possible illness. Breed characteristics of the Sheltie Shepherd. This mixed breed usually has a medium length coat that is mostly black and brown patterned. Its body is relatively slender and compact. It has strong legs and a straight back. On the head it carries a prominent stop. The voice is lively and high. Her teeth are very strong and bite resistant. She weighs between 20 and 25 kg and her shoulder height is about 40 to 55 cm. What does this mixed breed look like? A Sheltie Shepherd is a very attractive and lively breed. Their coat is medium long and heavy, usually in a combination of dark golden and black. This cool dog comes from the Shetland Islands which are between Scotland and Norway. This is also where Shetland Ponies and Sheep originated. They were created by crossing the Border Collie with other smaller dogs. They are of course a herding dog and were bred to herd and protect sheep. It made its way to England and Scotland in the 19th century. Unfortunately, they started being bred with other breeds and it really started to taint what they had started as. Today, most Shelties here in the United States have descended from dogs that were imported from England between the two major World Wars. Today there are not a lot of these dogs on their native Shetland Islands. Shelties tend to be loving, affectionate, and intelligent dogs that get along well with children, other pets, and other dogs. They tend to alert bark and are initially reserved towards strangers, but tend to warm up once introduced as long as they have been properly socialized. If the other parent breed is similar, then you can expect the same from a Sheltie Mix. His puppy family is a never ending support group for life. I just love the dog moms and dads on his web page. We have two bullies named Rocky and Gigi. The personality and temperament of these dogs are amazing. They bring so much joy and happiness to our family. Thank you Tim for blessing our family with these incredible pups!! Tim stands out among breeders because taking care of these Bulldogs is truly a passion of his heart! He is so friendly and dedicated to serving his dogs as well as educating his customers. The facilities are great, and upon your arrival you are met with an adorable pack of happy pups. Tim also runs a bulldog rescue, which is one of many things that clearly show he is in this business for the love of these Bulldogs and not just to make money. He is a stand-out, sweet man and I would recommend him to anyone that asks! My husband and I found Tim and Bullies for Families almost 1 year ago when we purchased our little guy, Bert. From the very beginning Tim was so helpful and let us know the minute one of his pups was available for purchase. My husband and I made our way down to his place and we were so thrilled to see how happy and well cared for his dogs are. The mom of our pup was so friendly and it showed how much love Tim has for his dogs. He was even talking about how he knew it was the last time he would breed one of his girls — that to me showed how he is not in this business to produce as many puppies as he can, but to treat these animals right while providing a quality product for his customers. After we got our dog Tim was always there to answer any questions we had about raising a dog and always gave great advice. We have recommended him to many friends of ours and plan on getting our next pup from him one day! I searched high and low for the perfect English Bulldog. I kept going back to Tims site…. .My bf and I drove Tim crazy for almost a year although Im percent sure Tim wont admit that…. Tim was awesome over the phone, helping us along the way. A week later, our healthy English bulldog was flown over to us in a brand new traveling crate, up to date on shots, food for the first week and a food menu to follow. We got home very late that night from the airport and Tim still picked up his phone right away when we called him with questions.
