They can get the curly fur from their Poodle parent, the straight fur from their Shih-Tzu parent, or a combination of the two, which is most likely. The color will vary, as well. They can come in black, white, brown, brindle, and all variations and color combinations. Daily brushings, as well as monthly groomings, will help keep your pup looking and feeling their very best. You may also want to give them a few baths in between, but not more than weekly, as their skin and coat can get dry and irritated. Shih-Poos prefer to be mostly around adults or older kids who know how to play gently. That said, for children who learn early how to properly approach and play with a small dog, the Shih-Poo can make a great companion. When it comes to other pets, Shih-Poos can get along with other animals if they are introduced slowly and calmly, and early socialization will help this go smoothly. Shih-Poos can be left alone for short periods of time, but a second dog could be ideal for them, especially in their later years. You can also seek for professional help every 3 to 4 months. Health Problems Being a cross breed, they are not much vulnerable to catching diseases, except for the general health problems. Since their inner ear temperature runs more than normal because of their floppy ears, they are much vulnerable to ear infections. To avoid this, keep their ears dry, especially after bath. Also insist on a good dental health regimen since they might as well be susceptible to dental issues. Training The ready-to-please attitude, along with loyalty and intelligence have made the shihpoos easily trainable. Socialize them from their puppy-days, and train them get used to strangers and be tolerant with other pets. Crate training is also easy, since this dog loves to poop and pee in such places that are away from their sleeping place. Like many small dogs, this breed tends to act stubborn at times. So be sure to be strict and authoritative while training so that they understand the rule that it is you who is the leader of its new pack. But never be rude, since these dogs do not respond well to harsh training techniques. Hence, monitor its dietary habits and calorie intake. They are a cross between a f1 Bernedoodle and a f1b Bernedoodle. We decided to call them teddy bears because the name fits them. We decided we wanted to add the Teddy Bear bernedoodles to our program back in .I talked with Tammie at Rocky Mountain Bernedoodles. We decided it was a good idea and we would be able to get the perfect Bernedoodle. I am excited about the potential for the Teddy Bear Bernedoodles. My idea is that we can produce a litter of puppies with consistent structure, hair type, temperament, and color. The way we can do this is to take the best of the best in health, structure, and temperament and test them to make sure they do not catty IC. Ic stands for improper coat. It is the coat you would see on a Bernese Mountain dog or a Golden retriever. We have had many requests for this coat type but as of right now we are not producing the IC affected coats in our Teddy Bear Bernedoodle program. All of our Teddy Bear Bernedoodles will have the beautiful fleece non shedding coat. Our Teddy Bear Bernedoodles will be pounds full grown. Teddy Bear Bernedoodles are great for families with allergies because they are little to no shed. Our teddy bear Bernedoodles are calm, quiet, social, intelligent, affectionate, and goofy. Our Teddy Bear Bernedoodles make great family companions and can double as a therapy or service dog. They need to be a part of a family and do best around people. You will find that your Teddy Bear is eager to please. This can be used to your advantage and use positive reinforcement training. You would be surprised how much your Doodle is willing to do for a little praise. If you find that your Doodle gets bored of training quickly, try doing smaller sessions. If you break up training into minute intervals with playtime in between, you will find that they are more receptive. Your Teddy Bear will love to have training throughout their lifetime. It gives them time to shine and show off their skills. All Teddy Bear Bernedoodles will have a curly coat no matter what their cross is. Now there are F2 Bernedoodles two F1 crossed that do not have the signature curly coat. Breeders typically will not sell these wavy-haired Doodles as a Teddy Bear since they are not curly. These F2 Bernedoodles shed more than the Teddy Bear and exist because of how unpredictable multiple generations can be. So be sure to talk with your breeder about what you are wanting before making deposits on a puppy. It is very rare to get an F2B with wavy hair since they are more Poodle than an F2 cross. Since they are more Poodle, they are low shedding and considered hypoallergenic. If you notice that your Teddy Bear is shedding, it is crucial to look at all environmental factors. They will shed due to allergies, not being brushed, or needing a bath. You will need to invest in a variety of brushes and combs for when the inevitable tangle happens. Your Teddy Bear Bernedoodle will need combing every day to get rid of knots. You will also need to brush them with a slicker brush that reaches down to the skin. Doing all of this daily will prevent painful mats that pull at their delicate skin. Your Teddy Bear will also need to be seen by a groomer every weeks. This grooming is when your pooch gets pampered with a bath, nail trim, and hair cut. These appointments keep them feeling fresh and well looked after. It can also be vital to their health. So you will want to get started on this as young as possible. These are no different than a first-generation Bernedoodle. The only difference is that you will not see as much shedding when grooming a Teddy Bear. Miniature Teddy Bears are inches tall and pounds. These mini Teddys can live anywhere from years. A standard grows to inches tall and pounds. The average lifespan on a standard is only years since most larger breeds do not live as long. These sizes and life expectancies are about the same as a first-generation Bernedoodle. Currently, the mini and standard are the only two recognized sizes by most breeders. There are a few breeders that sell smaller sizes like a micro or toy Teddy Bear, but these are unpredictable. But if you ever have questions about the size of your puppy, talk to your breeder directly. They can show you pictures of past litters and the parents to give you a better idea of size.
