I am a husband, father of 8 children, grandpa to 4 grandkids, Christian, retired school principal hence, the name , and full-time poodle whisperer! The Poodle may have originated in Germany, but they are much-loved by the French. So much so that the Poodle is the national dog of France. The Miniature Poodle is slightly more recent. This Mini version likely originated in France. The Mini Poodle has all of the same characteristics as a Standard Poodle; they just come in a smaller package. The Miniature Poodle is one of the smartest dog breeds. On top of their intelligence, they are also known to have a cheerful disposition and a sensitive nature. They get along great with children. Due to their small size, they can be easily injured by rough play or accidental falls that can happen with younger children. Because of this, they may be better suited to a home with older children. Younger children should be fine as long as they are taught how to properly interact with a small dog and interactions between young kids and puppies are closely supervised. Although they are considered part of the Non-Sporting Group, some facts about Miniature Poodles are that they are versatile and athletic dogs that are also quite playful. Provided they are well-socialized, they get along well with other dogs and tend to do well with strangers. They do tend to be protective of their home and can be suspicious of strangers coming up on the property. They are known to bark to alert you of strangers coming to the house. This makes them a good watchdog, but overall, they are more interested in making friends. This dog breed is highly adaptable. The Miniature Poodle does well in any type of home, including apartments, and fits in with just about any family type. They do well in most climates, but, as with many dog breeds, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because Mini Poodles are people-oriented, they do not like being left alone and will not handle being left alone for long periods of time very well. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to make sure they are not passing preventable issues to puppies. It is a cross between the Siberian Husky and the Labrador Retriever. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. This is not the same dog as the purebred Labrador Husky. His name is Carmine and he is such a goofy soul! Only one of her brothers was also born with those striking blue eyes. Rhea is a very smart puppy. After just a week she was already obeying basic commands! I started with the common treat training ie. I have had her two weeks now and she is obeying without the use of treats. She understands that jumping on people is not how to get attention, so she sits, sometimes pawing the air, and whimpers a little. She is even learning to sit up in a begging position and roll over! Rhea is very sweet. Babies, children, and other animals included. She's pretty laid back for a puppy, but she's teething , so keeping everything up aside from her toys is very important. She listens to "No" well, so if she gets into anything she isn't supposed to, it isn't hard to stop the bad behavior. Rhea loves to play, but she stays mostly relaxed indoors. As soon as we get out in the yard, though, she runs and jumps all over the place, barking. She's been doing well with about 30 minutes of play time twice a day. She also goes out for frequent potty breaks to avoid accidents in the house. To sum it all up, Rhea is a very smart, willing, and friendly dog. As long as she gets time outside to run and play, I think she could do great in any living environment and she is definitely a wonderful family pet, as she gets along with anyone and anything! He's extremely energetic, loves playing in any type of water the creek is his favorite and gives the best kisses! We got him off Craigslist and took him home at 6 weeks a little early, but it worked out okay. He loves to chase cats, but has never hurt ours. They mostly ignore each other. He loves other dogs, though! We take him to the dog park at least 3 times a week. He has a blast playing with the bigger dogs in the creek behind the park. We do have to watch him closely around smaller dogs, as he tends to play a little rough. Garrus is extremely intelligent and learned "sit" his first week with us. He just hit 4 months this week and is weighing in at a little over 30 lbs.!! We can't wait to see how big he'll get. He's really turning into a fine young man. Life Span Did You Know? The Huskador is a mixed dog breed. It is a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Labrador Retriever. It can take on the traits of the Labrador Retriever, the Siberian Husky, or a combination of both. Generally, you can expect a Huskador to be an energetic, smart dog that loves its family and needs plenty of activity. Because this is a mixed dog breed, it can take on any combination of the parent breed traits. They tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They may be okay with other pets in the home if they grow up around them, but they do tend to have a high prey drive with an urge to chase and wander. Depending on which parent they take after more, there will be a tendency to bark and to dig, but these can be curbed and redirected early on with plenty of socialization and consistent training. Huskadors are a moderately adaptable dog breed. They tend to be better suited to larger homes with a securely fenced-in yard where they can run. Huskadors tend to do well in just about any climate. As with any dog breed, they can be sensitive to heat. As with any dog breed, there are potential health conditions to be aware of. A mixed breed will inherit the risks from either or both of the parent breeds. For a Huskador, some potential health conditions include allergies, hip and elbow dysplasia, thyroid issues, glaucoma, bloat, and epilepsy. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and to see any health clearances can help allay potential health concerns. If a Huskador takes after their Labrador Retriever parent, they will be easy to train, eager to learn, and would be a great fit for first-time dog owners. They can be a good choice for first-time dog owners, but training classes are highly recommended. Both parent breeds shed regularly throughout the year and experience a more intense shedding session twice a year as the seasons change. In general, you will only need to bathe your dog occasionally, as they need it. In addition to coat care, there are other grooming tasks to consider including nail care, ear care, and tooth care. Nails that are too long can make movement painful for your dog and they can get snagged in things, which is also painful. Ears, especially floppy ears, tend to trap dirt, moisture, and debris, which can lead to ear infections.
