Do Poodles have to be foo-foo dogs? At dog shows, Poodles are usually seen in the elaborate foo-foo Continental Clip. Most pet owners however, prefer the simpler Sports Clip, in which the coat is shown to follow the outline of the squarely built, smoothly muscled body. Poodles are not sissy dogs. Standard Poodles are athletic, eager to learn and please, are over the top smart and remarkably versatile. The Standard, with his greater size is one of the best all-around dogs for the family. Conformation indicates what the animal appears to be. But performance indicates what the animal actually is. We are passionate about demonstrating the versatility of the Poodle. Our dogs excel in a wide variety of performance sports, conformation, and service work. Our program has produced many titles in obedience, conformation, rally, dock diving, Fast CAT, lure coursing, nose work, disc dog, trick dog, etc. The Poodle is one of the most versatile breeds of dogs. Athletic and energetic, they make a wonderful outdoor friend. Calm and intelligent, they make the perfect indoor companion. Their warm, loving nature makes them excellent with children. Poodles are recommended by the AKC for allergy sufferers because they do not shed and have very low dander. We are also passionate about bettering the brown Standard Poodle as there is a limited gene pool of quality dogs compared to other Poodle colors. We love their fun personalities! We have been certified as an AKC Breeder of Merit because of our dedication to the Standard Poodle breed, performance show achievements, and commitment to fully health certifying all breeding dogs. We are a member of the Better Bred breeder community that works toward maintaining diversity while decreasing complex genetic disorders within the Poodle breed. All our dogs are fully health certified by the OFA and CHIC for numerous orthopedic and genetic diseases by a multitude of genetic tests and physical examinations so our puppies come from a healthy background. As a member of the Better Bred community, all our dogs have also been tested at the Veterinary Genetics Laboratory as part of the Canine Genetic Diversity project which helps breeders to improve the health of breeding programs. An increase in genetic diversity decreases the likelihood complex autoimmune disorders and other complex diseases. We fully support this research which helps reduce complex genetic disorders within the Poodle breed. All our puppies come with a written 2-year genetic health guarantee. Bloom Standard Poodles Happy, healthy puppies. We are a small, home based kennel producing litters of black and brown standard poodles each year. Our poodles live in our home and are a part of our every day lives. My poodles bring so much joy to my everyday life and I want to bring this joy to your family with the breed I love and could not live without. Not only do they resemble their parents, we do everything in our power to socialize them as much as possible from the time they are born until they join their new family. Our litters are raised in our home, underfoot socialized with all the sights and sounds they will encounter with their forever families. We use Puppy Culture in the raising of our litters and begin introducing them to grooming no later than 3 weeks old. Sound in temperament and structure we are proud to say that all of our parents are carefully chosen, health tested and shown to their CKC Championships before producing their first litter. Poodles are such a versatile breed and we truly believe at Bloom Standard Poodles that our dogs can face any challenge and succeed. From conformation titles to service dog prospects, our dogs certainly fit the bill for any family. Please see Picking a Reputable Breeder below for more information on what this entails. Their purpose was to retrieve waterfowl out of bodies of water for their hunters. They have a wooly water resistant coat and webbed feet to help with swimming! This is the trim hunters would use on their dogs. The hair left on the legs is to protect their joints from the cold water, their jacket and poms on the hips to protect their kidneys, hip bones and vital organs! The rest of the body is shaved short so the dog would move faster in the water without getting tired. Poodles can be described in many ways. Intelligent, gregarious, goofy, playful, willing to learn and hilarious! These dogs are typically more active physically and mentally. Because they are so smart they require a family who is prepared to meet their physical and mental demands through training, remaining active and keeping their brains busy! They will so easily outsmart you if they are given the chance! My dogs will go on 20km hikes if I want, or lay on the couch all day. Poodles are so versatile! They can hunt, compete in the conformation ring, do agility, lure coursing, obedience, herding, scent detection. Poodles are a great breed choice for a service or therapy dog because of their willingness to learn and please their humans. Norman, Vienna and Echo racing to get the ball in the pool! They LOVE to get dirty! They require professional and regular grooming to keep their coat, skin, ears and nails happy and healthy. Poodles have a single coat, meaning they grow hair like humans do and do not produce undercoat. They do not shed undercoat and produce less dander than some other breeds however their saliva can affect people with allergies. They can even be groomed to look like other breeds of dogs like Bichon, Schnauzers, Bedlington Terriers and more! If you can imagine it, you just have to find a groomer who can do it! Below are some examples of colours and hairstyles! If you are interested in a poodle that is NOT black or brown, please contact us so we can help you locate a reputable breeder who may have a puppy in your favourite colour! Here is Anna, an Apricot poodle sporting an adorable teddy bear face! This is a totally acceptable trim for those with active lifestyles or a lower grooming budget. While brown poodles are always born very dark, they typically fade to a lighter colour. Echo is the typical happy go lucky boy that I always dreamed of. He is the household favourite by so many visitors, if you scratch his bum he will be your best friend forever. His favourite pastime is naps on the couch and swimming in the pool. Echo is not a part of the breeding program, rather just a part of my family. Vienna loves chasing her ball, giving hugs and being picked up like a baby. She is my sidekick, anything I throw at her, she is totally game! Vienna is our first Canadian Champion. She attained her Canadian Kennel Club Championship at a young .She also achieved her Canine Good Neighbour title at 11 months old. We have other sporting titles in progress! Vienna is 41lbs and .She truly brightens my day. She is as sweet as she looks and will do anything she is asked. Vida loves running on the farm with her best buddy Norman, visiting and playing tug with her littermate Kohl and kissing her mommy Vienna. Vida has taken the show world by surprise. A petite brown female who has won Multiple 6 Best Puppy in Shows, 4 Group 1st and many other group placements by various judges across Canada and North America. I really cannot brag enough about her accomplishments, the compliments from the judges and everyone who adores her. I never expected this much from my first homebred puppy. We are currently training to be an agility star! Norman loves every human, baby, dog, puppy, cat, really everything. Norman is 2 points away from his Canadian Championship title having only been shown 3 weekends! Norman is co-owned by myself and Becky Godbey of Magic Hour. Norman pictured with his handler Allison Hardie winning a Best Puppy in Group at his first show under a judge from Brazil! Norman and Vida - two peas in a pod! Carter lives in St Catherines, Ontario with a close friend Christina. Christina and Carter do everything together. Carter will be available at stud to approved bitches when he is of age with clear health testing. Carter is black and carries for brown. Carter showing off his new Canine Good Neighbour certificate! Carter is a natural at lure coursing AND agility! Not sure a standard poodle is for you? That is FINE! However, this is a very important topic. Many people chose to rescue an adult dog or puppy, or shop for a breeder. Whatever you decide PLEASE do your research on a breed that would suit your individual lifestyle and family, not just what you think looks cute! Each breed has different instincts and natural tendencies that may not be suited for homes with small children, overly active or underly active families. For example, border collies are bred to herd sheep. It is absolutely possible to bring a dog with herding instincts into a home with children, but it takes a lot of training to ensure that the dog is not going to try and herd or nip at children. This is their instinct, to herd small animals. So whatever breed you choose please ensure you are prepared to deal with their natural tendencies. Each breed may require a higher or lower need for grooming. Every breed needs their nails trimmed and ears cleaned regularly! Please do your research and even contact a local groomer to see what type and frequency of grooming your breed requires. Every breed requires regular vaccinations and visits to a trusted veterinarian to ensure they are kept in good health. All purebred breeds and mixed breeds are prone to a certain amount of health issues, whether they be genetic or not. If you have any questions about other breeds, or breeders please contact us to we can do our best to steer you in the right direction! Check out this article! Standard Poodles, along with all other breeds can reproduce genetic problems that can affect the puppies they produce. We only breed our dogs who have these same credentials. Backyard breeders simply breed for profit, not for the betterment of the breed. Breeders do this in dogs, cattle, chickens, sheep, cats etc. Purebred dogs have a written out Breed Standard which judges will evaluate against the animal you are presenting them. Dogs who are a good example of this breed standard in both their structure and temperament are awarded in conformation. Titles and Qualifications are available in many sporting events such as field trials hunting , agility, herding, obedience, and more! Mom and littermates teach puppies manners and proper social interaction. There is a higher risk of puppies developing poor social manners and separation anxiety if they are removed from their mom and littermates before 8 weeks of age. Our puppies typically go to their new forever homes from weeks of age. Dogs under 2 years old are not physically and sexually mature. If they breed the same mom and dad time and time again, this has no goal but profit. Many people believe that mixed breed dogs are healthier due to their genetic diversity. This is simply not true. Yes, mixed breed dogs are not as closely related as purebred dogs, but without health testing there is absolutely no way of ensuring both parents and puppies will end up healthy. So many NON health tested purebred and mixed breeds are unfortunately riddled with genetic and structural issues both parents may have passed along to their puppies. Two breeds often means double the potential health problems. If you are searching for a mixed breed we highly recommend a reputable rescue organization. Our studs are not available to people who want to breed poodle mixes. Puppies Our promise to you… We carefully pair our mom and dad to produce beautiful, happy and healthy puppies that would suit any family and adapt to a variety of lifestyles. We produce and show quality black and brown standard poodles. We focus on health, temperament and structural soundness. Our males typically mature between lbs and our females lbs. We currently have no puppies available. We would love for you to fill out our puppy application. Send us an email at groomtobloompetsalon gmail. We will send you a Puppy Application and a copy of our Puppy Contract so we can get to know you a little bit better, and you know what we would expect for the absolute best care of your new family member. Please fill out your answers with some thought, this will help me choose which pup in the litter would be best suited for your family. This deposit is non-refundable if you change your mind or buy from another breeder. If you are approved you are more then welcome to schedule a meeting to come meet our pack! We have puppy socials around 6 weeks old where you and your family will be invited to come meet the litter! Although retired from my grooming salon and doggie bed and breakfast, I now concentrate full-time on raising our high quality chocolate poodle puppies. There is a litter available now, so please do give us a call or fill out the Puppy Home Questionnaire.I may just have your standard poodle pup here waiting for you! Or phone Cheryl Ann personally at .Our Browns tend to be more "muscular" than what you would typically see at a dog show and for sure have loads more boning than the average chicken boned poodle you may meet. This is because our Browns are Working Dogs, and must be physically capable to work. This is very difficult to have achieved and took years to develop. Our pups "may" get a sprinkle of grey hairs through their coat as they mature, and may even lighten on their muzzle or tail area when they age. There really is no guarantee on colour. We do have the darkest browns, with substance, that you will find in the "world". Temperament : Our Browns are sweet natured and calm. All our poodles have calm laid back temperament. NO anxious, hyper pacing or barking. Our Browns love to be with you in the same room or on the couch beside you cuddling during a movie. I use my browns as my jogging partners as they are taller and able to do 6km with a good pace with me without any stress or strain and they actually look forward to it and enjoy the activity. Browns and all poodles will actually do any activity that pleases you as that is just the breed's nature. Our Browns are the darkest browns you will find in the world!! Well we don't, and thanks to our Foster homes, helping us out you don't have to either! Our Quest for brown was a long one. We bought and re-homed many in our search for a dark brown that was calm and laid back, that would produce puppies we would be proud of, and know that we could in good faith, place in pet, obedience and therapy homes. There was no way I would produce unhealthy, or hyper brown poodles, so our standards were very high. This cost us financially, emotionally, and took many years. I could not find browns like what I wanted to own, or produce so I waited and kept searching for over 5 years. I can also only house "3" Standard Poodles, so it made the journey even more difficult. Our Story A house is not a home without a Standard Poodle. As you already know, my name is Wendy. My older sister Holley and I were born in the sand hills of North Carolina and have lived here all our lives. Most of the time when we were children, it was just Cindy my Mom, and the two of us. My mama accepted Christ as a young teenager. Holley and I were blessed to have accepted Christ as our personal Savior at a young age. We also attended and graduated from Christian schools which was another way my mom wanted to assure us of a happy future, with Christ at the center of our lives. Mama saw to it we had every type pet we wanted from parakeets and ferrets to horses. She also made sure we learned the huge responsibility of taking care of them. We learned at a very young age the importance of good cleaning practices, feeding habits and medical care to assure that our pets were all happy and healthy. When Holley was a young teenager and I was about ten we raised and sold rabbits, hamster and mice to local pet stores. We did this to help mama support our horse-showing hobby. The miracle of birth and the sadness of death was a part of our everyday lives. Although things were not perfect in some areas of our lives, this was an amazing, blessed way to grow up. This allowed her to have the biggest desire of her heart, which was to stay at home with Holley and me. This decision allowed her to have a very successful career with an ample income to provide for us. Into the shop one day walked a beautiful pair of black Standard Poodles. It was a mother and her son. Venus, the mother, was a gorgeous, loving, elegant, and petite Standard Poodle. Her son, Keegan, on the other hand, still just a puppy, was a huge combination of fun, personality, intelligence and striking good looks. We were surprised that we fell in love with the Standard Poodle and the Westie, because our favorite breeds had always been the Collie and Sheltie mini collie. Mama groomed Keegan and Venus every few weeks and also trained Keegan. As a result the two were in the shop and in our home on a regular basis. Keegan would come and stay just because we loved him. We grew to love their more confident, protective nature and large size, in comparison to the Shelties. A huge plus in comparing the breed to the Collie, was no shedding or odor. These qualities and the intelligence and loyalty of Keegan and Venus, convinced us this was a breed worth sharing with everyone. This was not always easy for my mom, as a single parent, or for us, as two young girls. But we had lots of support and help from our family, friends, and great employees. We drew most of our strength and wisdom from our Lord and Savior. He was a tall, slender, gentle giant with green eyes and dark hair and was only 16 and Holley only .He became our right hand man and we depended on him during some difficult and trying times. They would become husband and wife after Holley graduated from high school in .Mom met a wonderful man, David! He soon became her husband and the spiritual leader of our family. What a blessing he was then and continues to be. He loved babies of any type, preferably, human, but also loved the horses and puppies. With his amazing sense of humor rubbing off on all of us, work sometimes felt like play. I started flying lessons and thinking about my future. I started praying that God would let me soon meet my husband to be. While taking flying lessons God answered my prayers. I met the man of my dream…Blake. He had blue eyes and dark hair. He was handsome and soft spoken.
We were ill-prepared for a strong minded, working breed. We learned all the quirks of the breed that make them a desirable companion and then all the not so great traits that require a serious owner to manage them. Our dogs live in house and puppies are raised underfoot. We believe that well- tempered dogs that do well in a busy household will produce puppies with the same temperament. Because we raise all our dogs in our house we only keep as many dogs as we can manage. We rely heavily on our co-ownership program. Our dogs are raised holistically, fed a raw meat diet and follow the limited vaccine protocol. We have travelled all over USA to show, work and compete with our dogs. I have dedicated a large part of my life to learning the breed and everything that comes with it. Bully breeds are often the target of BSL, we feel it is our responsibility to be advocates of responsible ownership. American Bulldogs are not for everyone, they require strong leadership and structure. We believe American Bulldogs should be a versatile dog. They may not be the best at everything, but they will certainly try! We have done weight pull, protection sports, dock diving, scent detection, barn hunt, lure course, obedience and conformation with our dogs. Although all our puppies take a piece of our hearts as they leave on their new adventure, we trust that their new homes offer them a great life and keep us updated. We love to hear about our puppies and we measure our success on the feedback we receive. It is never a bother to hear from our own puppy owners or any other American Bulldog owner that needs advice. I have been heavily involved in American Bulldogs for 13 years — from conformation shows to performance events — we do it all with our dogs. I also work full-time to support my dog addiction and am a mother to a fourteen year old daughter Brooklynn. Albert is a rescue dog and with any rescue, we cannot guarantee breed or age. We believe Albert is to be an American Bulldog mix approximately 4 years old and currently weighs 60 lbs and we do not expect him to get much bigger if at all than his current size. Albert has the most adorable squishy smooshy face that is the perfect subject for picture opportunities and has the looks that will make everyone stop in your tracks. Albert is dog friendly and did great meeting all of the dogs we introduced him to. He will do well in a home with other moderately playful dogs that will also respect his space whenever he does not want to play and he would also make a great dog for a single pet household. Absolutely no kitties for Albert please, he liked our resident cats a little too much. He is what we consider medium to low energy and like most bulldogs, will not require a lot of exercise and would most likely do well in a apartment or condo. If you know bull dogs you know they can be very stubborn and set in their ways and training can be a little more of a challenge but Albert is very treat motivated which will make training that much easier. Bonus points: he already knows how to sit! He does respond well to corrections and checks in frequently with his handler. He will need some help polishing his leash skills as he can pull to things that excite him and will need to learn some basic obedience skills. He likes to jump every now and then when he gets excited or when those treats come out. Consistency, patience and treats will be key to setting Albert up to be the best doggy citizen he can be. He will be a great buddy to take with you to run errands, join you for a leisurely walk in the neighborhood on a cool day, and will love you forever if you take him to his favorite place the pet store where he can pick out his favorite treats and toys. Abert is crate trained and potty trained and can even stay in his crate for up to 8 hrs with no accidents! His foster says he is very calm and comfortable in the home and likes to follow her around like her little sidekick. Albert is not overly affectionate but you will find him sitting next to you while you read and simply enjoying quality time with you. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Our PNW dogs are brought to you in style by a beautiful USDA licensed semi-truck, equipped with air conditioning for comfort, two drivers, and 2 onboard attendants providing 24 hour care. Our East Coast route will travel in a private, air conditioned 3LP-run van transport. Pick up day is unforgettable! You will get to follow along on their journey through a private FB Event page, where you will see photos, have the opportunity to connect with other adopters, and receive updates and constant communication along the way. One of our Adoption Coordinators can help to find the closest transport pick up location to you! Why adopt from Three Little Pitties? The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. We provide weekly socialization programs for our dogs through playgroups and group leash training classes available to all dogs in our adoption program, and Doggy Sleepover, Doggy Day Out, and Ambassador programs for our boarding dogs. There is a professional dog trainer on staff to provide support for our fosters and dogs, and an off-site dog trainer for dogs that need more extensive behavior modification. This helps us learn deeply about every dog, prepare them for adoption, and ultimately match them with loving families. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be! We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12, very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes. What are the risks of leaving your Lab outside? Most of the time, you might see him outside, investigating the surroundings and simply running around, and might find it difficult to get him to come inside the house. So, some dog parents wonder, can Labradors sleep outside? Can a Labrador retriever live outside? Labrador retrievers can live outside , but most of the time, they do not want to live outside. Their bodies are physically designed to deal with the outdoor elements until it gets too unsafe and extreme. Their fur coat is designed in such a way that they can stay for extended periods outside, and it also helps them to keep up their high energy levels. Since labs are mainly people-oriented, they have very important social needs. So if they get depressed, stressed, or anxious, it is probably because they are too isolated from the family they live in. Where should my Labrador sleep at night? Although labs can sleep outside, they usually prefer to sleep inside with their family. They can live outside only if they have a warm, secure and comfortable kennel. However, it will take some time to train your Lab to be comfortable and happy living outside. Can Labradors sleep outside in winter? The water-resistant, double-layered coat will help to cope with colder climates, but they cannot survive in extremely low temperatures if they are coupled with thunder, rain, snow, and other bad weather. If you are looking to invest in a kennel, go for one that supports internal heating for the cold winters. One of the reasons why Labradors are one of the most preferred breeds is because of their temperament. If labs are kept outside for a longer period, their social needs will not be fulfilled. Separation anxiety is a very serious issue for a lot of dogs. Can Labrador puppies sleep outside? Especially puppies, like adult dogs, have a lot of social needs. They must be given the same equal needs as that of an adult dog , from the time they come home, especially during their first few months. If puppies are left alone for too long, they will also get very stressed. Problems like separation anxiety will be developed if they are left alone for too long. There are some things to be very cautious about if you leave your Labrador for very long periods. Labs will also try to escape your yard and may even climb and jump fences and may try to dig underneath those fences. If unfortunately, your lab does escape, it could get hit by a car. Permanently keeping your dog outside can make them vulnerable to ticks and fleas. You can train your Labrador Retriever to adapt to sleeping outside, but they should be given a clean, safe, and warm kennel to sleep in. However, if you leave your Labrador outside for too long, it can cause many problems, especially behavioral issues like anxiety, depression, and aggression. So, where should your Lab puppy sleep? A Labrador puppy should sleep in a crate or dog bed. The easiest option is a crate as you can control his environment better, and it also helps to toilet train your puppy quicker. If you choose a dog bed, partition off an area of the house using baby gates or a playpen. As a first-time dog owner, I took the sound advice of my breeder. He told me that a crate is the easiest way to train a pup to sleep well — and for faster potty training! Although I could hear my puppy cry once in a while during her first night, after that, she was fine. This is quite normal, and your dog will soon get to love his crate — he will recognize it as his special place where no one else is allowed! Here are some helpful tips to help your Labrador settle in his crate and sleep well, especially on his first night: Make sure you buy the correct size. Use a divider to partition the crate in half. As the crate will be too large at first, you can use a divider to adjust the size as your Labrador grows. I like the Midwest Homes for Pets iCrate from Amazon as it has everything you need and comes with an all-inclusive divider and wipe-clean removable tray. You can also choose either a single or double door that is handy. Cover half of the crate with a blanket. Situate the crate close to your bedroom. A quiet area for sleeping is best, not too far away from your bedroom, so you can hear your pup if he needs to go outside during the night. Company Is Key Many Labrador owners think that such a huge dog must be an outdoor creature. And then there is the ancestry of the Labrador Retriever that somewhat makes you wonder, are Labrador retrievers outside dogs? After all, labs were originally bred as hunting and fishing dogs that spent most of their time outdoors. Their double fur coat is also a testimony to how well they can physically adapt to outdoor weather conditions. But once you get a Lab, you will quickly realize that even though your dog loves to run around the backyard, it is better for its emotional well-being if it spends a lot of time indoors, surrounded by family. Read on to know why it is so, and what you can do if your Labrador must sleep outside. Labradors Are Social Creatures Labs are extremely social and must have company, especially that of the owner. If you leave your Lab outside all the time, it will look for someone to connect with. It may try to run up to and playfully greet a passerby or a neighbor. It tries to fill the void left by you because you either went out of the house for a long time leaving the dog alone in your backyard or are busy doing your own thing inside expecting the Lab to have outdoor fun on its own. It needs to be in a group of humans or other dogs. If you do need to keep your Lab outside, you should either go alone or have other pets or family members be outdoors at the same time to keep the dog company. This rule applies even when your Lab stays indoors. It must be around other people to stay emotionally well. Can Labradors Sleep Outside? They can, but only under the right conditions. If you have the idea of allowing your dog to simply go outside at night and then welcome it back into the house the next morning, that might not work. The reason is that a Lab prefers to sleep inside, but can sleep outside in a comfortable kennel if the need arises. The dog also may be reluctant to use the kennel at first, especially when it realizes that you are not going to keep it company. Be patient with the training, and it will be okay eventually. There may be several reasons why you chose to let your Lab sleep outside. Maybe your outdoor space is larger than the indoors. Maybe you have too many family members and it gets congested. Maybe you work late, and so on. Provide a Warm and Comfy Shelter Providing a secure, safe, and warm shelter for your Lab is step number one. Put some thought into building the dog house before you introduce it to your Lab. The dog shelter must be big enough for your dog to move about freely. You do not want your Lab to slouch or hunch to go inside the house or roam about when it is in. It is also recommended to put up a fence around your yard that is at least 5 feet high to prevent any possibility that your Lab escapes. Provide Plenty of Water Make sure your dog has access to fresh water every night when it goes to sleep outside in the kennel. In a way, it is adjusting to your needs and lifestyle. Of course, you should. Spend as much time as you can with the dog when you are both awake. That would help the dog understand the situation better and it will go to sleep in its kennel happily knowing that when the morning comes, you will be ready to play with it. These greetings not only work as commands when you are initially training your dog to sleep in a kennel but also provide a sense of security to the dog. It knows you are there. Dangers of Keeping Your Labrador Outside If the situation calls for your Labrador to live outside, day or night, there are some dangers you must be aware of. Be mindful of these issues and decide on appropriate measures. Labradors Develop Anxiety and Behavioral Problems Your Lab is sweet and good-natured but can develop behavioral problems that stem from being away from their family for a long duration. Such emotional imbalances spring from separation anxiety and must be avoided if you wish your Lab to stay happy and healthy. Labradors Can be Stolen Labradors are one of the most sought-after dog breeds and are admired for their loyalty and playfulness. Hence, it is of little wonder that some ill-natured passer-by might think about stealing a Labrador for their keeping or selling it illegally. Labradors who are not aggressive could easily be taken, especially if they are young. Your dog may be exposed to harmful chemicals or dangerous plants. There is also a high chance of it getting infected with fleas and tick bites. And many such infections could also be transferred to humans living indoors. Labs are smart dogs and they can dig. So, it will not take them long to figure out how to get away, they are also very agile a could jump over the fence especially if the fence is not too high. With high heat, there comes the danger of developing heatstroke. Similarly, prolonged exposure to excessively cold weather can cause hypothermia in your dog. If your dog is spending time outside, make sure that it has shelter from the elements, which means an isolated kennel for the winter, and provide shade and plenty of clean fresh water during the summer. Company Is Key Before you get a Lab home, it is vital to evaluate whether you want your Lab to stay indoors with you or spend most of its time outside. Even though a Lab can live outdoors, it is happier inside the house where it has company. Also, there are several safety and health concerns to think of if you plan to leave your dog out in the yard, especially at night. What is most important to remember is that whether outside or inside, Labs are at their best when you are around. February 23, December 6, For some dog owners, especially those raising farm, hunting, or other types of working breeds, it is not a matter of if, but when can a puppy face the elements and sleep outside. There is a proper time for your puppy or puppies to make the transition. After all, important as it is to have the proper shelter for your animals, herd dogs and guard dogs, for example, are meant to be outside when it counts. For most breeds, the developmental stages from puppy to juvenile to adolescent dog are about a year. Those early months inside are important for the dog to bond with you and the family, and to establish yourself as the alpha of the pack. Nevertheless, the time will come to transition your puppy from house to yard, and the timing of that is just as important. The time when your puppy can sleep outside is not set in stone, but sometime in the four to six month range you can begin the transition. There are two prime factors to consider. Puppies cannot regulate their body temperature like grown dogs can. Puppies are also more susceptible to sickness, diseases, and parasites than adult dogs. Your veterinarian will have your pet on a vaccination schedule of approximately 6 to 8 weeks, 10 to 12 weeks, and 14 to 16 weeks. After that, it should be okay to begin the transition from house to yard. No method is tried and true, to be sure, and circumstances and environments are different for everyone. Yet, it would be safe to wager that all parties would agree that a successful transition from house to yard is a gradual process. In other words, start slowly. Place the shelter near that spot. Over the course of the week, repeat the process. In either case, bring the dog inside to sleep for the remainder of the night. Repeat that process for a week and you should be ready to make the final transition for your puppy to sleep outside. The method takes time, patience, and conditioning. It is a process. However, by the time your puppy grows from juvenile to adolescent the transition from sleeping in the house to the yard should be a success! Labradors absolutely love, love, love to run. They love to run so much that you will need to train them properly when they are young to avoid them bolting out the door and up the street at every opportunity. While they may not be fond of being in the cold for too long, they do like playing in fluffy white snow when it is thick on the ground. And sticks. There is almost no better toy to get your Labrador than a good size stick they can play with outside. They not only love to fetch the stick but they also will spend hours whittling it away, and sometimes even looking for a place to hide it for later. Even though your Labrador can live outdoors, there are many drawbacks to this. It is important for you to be aware of these drawbacks so you can keep your dog safe. An outside environment can be dangerous There are poisonous plants, toxic chemicals, and dangerous animals that can be encountered. It is always best to make sure they have a secure living environment that can keep them protected from common dangers. Labs can escape from your backyard Labradors are quite smart and resourceful. This means that they can be master escape artists. To ensure their safety, you should make sure that there is nothing close enough to the fence for them to climb, and no weak spots that they could breakthrough. Labs can dig up and destroy backyards You also may have to show a little more patience when your dog is outside because they can also become destructive by digging up plants and chewing on things they find in the yard. Exposure to fleas and ticks Another con of having your lab live outdoors is their risk of becoming infected with ticks and fleas. Fleas and ticks can cause your lab to become ill if not treated. They are more likely to attach to your dog when they are outside. Even if your dog is outside, a flea infestation can still work its way in your home by catching a ride on your clothes after you interact with the dog. Always make sure your dog is properly treated with preventative medication. Address flea and tick issues as soon as they are discovered. For the best all-round flea, tick, and mosquito prevention solution, we recommend Bayer K9 Advantix II for labs weighing over 55 pounds. Weather exposure Back to weather extremes. When having your lab outside you will need to educate yourself in the symptoms of heatstroke and hypothermia. Use good judgment when extreme weather conditions occur. Heatstroke can cause excessive drooling and deep red gums. When your dog is too cold, they can shiver, become lethargic, and show signs of lessened coordination. Living Inside Your Home Give them a space Just like humans, your Labrador will need its own space to feel safe and comfortable. This means creating a sleeping area where your pet can relax, rest, and even retreat from the hustle and bustle of the household if needed. It is also good to have this space established if you wish to keep your Labrador off of the furniture in your home. Equip this Lab space with a bed, blanket, or something comforting to lay on and keep one of two favorite toys in this area. If you plan on crate training your Lab, their bedding should be kept in the crate along with some favorite toys. Access to food You will also want them to be able to easily access their food and purchase a food dish on risers to keep their back aligned when eating. Labradors can suffer from joint problems as they age, so this will allow them to enjoy their food more comfortably. Fresh water at the ready Make sure your dog always has a steady supply of fresh and clean water. If you spend time away from home during the day. If your Lab has the roam of the house, make sure to keep toys in every room they may spend time in. They love to chew When Labs are young, they like to chew. This behavior can reoccur when they are bored or missing you as they get older. Having readily available items for them to chew, can keep them busy and prevent them from turning furniture and shoes into new chew toys! While warmth and comfort are driving factors that are the most common reasons that animals wish to live indoors, the truth is your Labrador will be happiest indoors because that is where they can be around you the most. They love hanging out with their peeps! Labradors are extremely social and require interaction to keep happy and prevent them from acting out. This interaction can be as simple as a pat on the head, a thrown ball, or a simple snuggle. Your dog may even find extreme joy simply following you around while you go about your daily routine. Your Lab will also love to be indoors so that they can play with household members and other pets. What About The Great Outdoors? Just because your Labrador is more suited to live inside your home, that does not mean that they will enjoy being cooped up inside all day. Labradors are hunting and sporty dogs. Staying active and playing is one of the ways they challenge themselves mentally and physically. Keeping your dog cooped up for too long can lead to bad habits as well, such as chewing and other destructive behaviors as an outlet for their boredom. So always make sure to get your Labrador out at least once or twice a day to get them some exercise. Let them enjoy some fresh air. Give them the opportunity to explore their surroundings. Labradors are not only social creatures but also curious ones. They are smart animals and rely on constant intellectual stimulation by exploring their surroundings. This makes the trips outside of their normal environment even more exciting. Labs enjoy interacting with nature and discovering areas through smell and sight. They also enjoy other outdoor activities such as swimming. When you take your dog exploring be sure to be conscious of their surroundings and keep an eye on them. Curiosity can sometimes get the better of them. Next time you want to enjoy a hike, nature walk, or trip to the beach or even camping , make sure to bring your Lab with you. It can make for great bonding time and give you company on your trip. As mentioned earlier, Labradors love being active. What they love even more is being interactive with you. While you are out walking with them, they will most enjoy activities that involve one-on-one interaction with them. Your Labrador loves playing fetch as much for the activity as they do for the act of pleasing you with their skill set. They also like you playing tug of war with their toys. Your Labrador is quite sporty, and they love to show it off, so take them outside with a frisbee, take them out to a beach or lake to go for a swim, or even set up minor obstacle courses for them to test out their agility. English or British Bulldogs originated in the United Kingdom and were first bred for use in cattle-driving and bull-baiting. The strong and stocky nature of this breed helped to make them quite popular, but over time, Bulldogs were more commonly found in family homes than on farms. These days, a typical San Diego Bulldog for sale is classed as a family-friendly dog with low energy levels and affectionate, curious nature. How big does a Bulldog get? What sort of temperament do they have? The Bulldog is a medium-sized breed, easily recognizable with their broad chests and stocky bodies. Even though they might appear a little intimidating at first, Bulldog puppies in San Diego are really calm and quiet dogs. They're also a good choice for apartment-dwellers due to their low energy levels. Are Bulldogs suitable for apartments? For sure! If you happen live in an apartment and want to find a dog that won't get bored in the small space, a Bulldog for sale in San Diego could be a great choice. Bulldogs are quite big dogs, but they have low energy levels, so they really don't need big backyards or huge homes to be happy. Just be sure to take them for walks to meet their exercise needs. Are you on the lookout for a low-shedding or hypoallergenic pup? San Diego Bulldogs for sale might not be the right choice for you. Like a lot of other breeds, the Bulldog will shed a little hair throughout the year. They don't shed too much when compared to longhaired dogs, but you may still have to deal with little clumps of hair around the home when a Bulldog is around. How much do Bulldog puppies cost? Please be patient. We get hundreds of applications and can't respond to everyone. Your donations pay for expenses to foster doodles, buy pet food, cover veterinary costs, and transportation. We adopt doodles to families that will keep them as inside pets and treat them as family members. We do not adopt to families who are specifically looking for a doodle to train as a service dog. Since the majority of rescue dogs do not meet service dog requirements, this is an unfair expectation of our doodles. We also do not adopt doodles to be given as gifts. We do not permit commercial transport of our dogs, and all adopters are required to personally take their new family member home. If you adopt a doodle from us, it is important to note that rescue dogs typically require leash and other training. Your doodle may keep you up nights, have potty accidents, and other inconveniences for the first couple of weeks. We can't possibly know everything about the health or behavior of any dog in our care. You bear the responsibility of choosing to adopt your dog. If for any reason you are unable to keep your doodle, you are required to contact the California Doodle Rescue. If you are found to be a possible match for one of our doodles, you will be contacted directly by someone from California Doodle Rescue. If contacted, please be prepared for a required phone interview, contacting your references, and or veterinarian checks. Part of our adoption process requires an in-person meet and greet between the doodle and the entire household, including pets of the potential adopting family. If a home visit is not possible, you may be asked to send photos of your home and yard. The breed is gaining wide popularity in Australia and North America due to their sweet, affectionate nature. As with any hybrid breed, their appearance will vary depending on the characteristics of the breeding pair. They have broad, round skulls, long muzzles, and oval-shaped eyes that are most often brown but more rarely can be blue or green. Their bodies are long, muscular, and well-built. Their coats vary widely and can be flat and straight like the Retriever, wavy, or even very curly like the Poodle. As a Poodle mix, they are considered hypoallergenic and could be a good choice for those who suffer from allergies. Goldendoodles are affectionate, attentive, and good with other dogs and children, making them an ideal addition to your family. In fact, they want to be with you at all times. They are happy, active and energetic. They will thrive with families who are committed to being active, walking daily, playing fetch and flyball, and even swimming. Their intelligence makes the courses. Their coats require regular brushing and trimming to prevent mats. Goldendoodles adapt well to both rural and urban environments provided that exercise is prioritized and they have enough room to run and play. We match families with the puppy that we feel will be the best fit for them. From the time you fill out your puppy application to when you take your puppy home, we are with you every step of the way. After your puppy goes home, we provide a variety of resources for you to keep in touch, including our Owners Facebook Page. We invite all of our puppy owners to our Annual Doodle Romp each year, and of course we are always available to answer questions along the way. To assist you in filling out the application, we recommend browsing through the "Our Puppies" section of our website to understand the Goldendoodle breed in general, and the different colors , generations , and sizes of puppies we offer. Be sure to check out the McDifference page to see what sets us apart. Phone Interview Upon receipt of your application, we will call you to discuss your preferences and our upcoming litters. We do our best to give you an approximate timeframe. We talk about your needs as far as temperament, look, and any allergies in-depth so that we have an idea how to steer you in the right direction when it comes to selecting a puppy. We take notes during this interview so that we have them to refer back to throughout the process. Deposits can be made on our Pricing and Deposits page. The balance is due when your puppy is 4 weeks old. It is not our policy to refund deposits. Waiting List After your deposit is received, you are placed on our waiting list. As litters are bred or if we have extra spots after a litter is born, we contact the next families on the list that match the litter preferences. If the timing does not work for you or you cannot take a puppy from this litter, your name goes back on the top of the list, and you will be contacted for the next or future litter. After the Puppies are Born Puppy Collars The first thing we do after the puppies are born is to place a collar on them. The puppies wear different color collars, and this is how we track their weights two times a day, how our Vet keeps track of them and how you can track them from week to week in the pictures. Puppy Announcement and Weekly Updates After the puppies are born, we send a birth announcement via email to each family on the list with the litter specifics and pictures. We send pictures and updates every week, so you can watch them grow. Matching Puppies with Families Matching puppies with families is an integral part of our process, and we feel is one of the most significant things that sets us apart. Many breeders allow families to select their puppy in order of deposit, but we feel that we are serving each family and each puppy much better by selecting based on "best fit. Choose Your Favorites The first step in our selection process is to get your opinion based purely on the look of the puppies. After we send the 6-week pictures, we ask everyone on the list for their favorites, based solely on the look of the puppies. This test uses a scoring system and consists of ten individual tests. Each test is scored separately, and interpreted on its own merits. The scores are not averaged, and there are no winners or losers. The entire purpose is to select the right puppy for the right home. For more information on this test, visit the volhard. Our Recommendation Using the results of the Volhard Test, along with your puppy application, phone interview, and your favorites, we match you with the puppy that we feel is the best fit for your family and lifestyle. Your New Family Member! Once the testing is complete, we call everyone on the waiting list to go over their scores and discuss our recommendation of which of your favorites we think is the best fit. After this conversation, you have a puppy to call your own! Visiting Your New Puppy After the selection process is complete, you are welcome to visit your new puppy. The puppies are 6 weeks old by this time, and will have had their first set of vaccinations. When visiting your puppy, we request that you do not visit any other kennels, pet stores, breeders, or places where there could be unvaccinated dogs during the same day. We will ask that you take your shoes off at the door and use hand sanitizer. We will also ask that all kids sit on the floor when holding and playing with the puppies. Taking Home Your Puppy At eight weeks, you will be invited to take your puppy home. We will assign a time for your pickup so that we can spend some uninterupted time with you going over things we think you should know and answering any questions you may have. The drive home When you pick up your puppy, we recommend bringing someone with you who can hold the puppy on their lap for the drive home. Your puppy will be unfamiliar in his new surroundings, and without his siblings. Holding the puppy on your lap on an old bath towel will keep your puppy feeling safe and happy and start him off in the best possible way to his new life. Avoid High Traffic Areas On the way home, please remember that your puppy is vulnerable because he has not yet completed his vaccines. Avoid stopping at "high traffic" dog areas, like rest stops, on your journey home. Instead try stopping at restaurants, where people with dogs in the car are less likely to stop. By avoiding areas where other dogs have been walked, you greatly reduce the chances of your puppy picking up any germs left behind. If you have to stop at a rest area, please carry your puppy to a more secluded spot, and you might even want to put your puppy on a puppy pad rather than on the grass - or for the most secure solution, simply put them in a crate lined with a puppy pad. In general, your puppy should be able to make at least a two hour trip without stopping. Visiting the Vet When you go to your Vet, carry your puppy in and place it on the table; don't let it walk across the floor where a sick dog could have been. Until your puppy has had its last set of puppy vaccines, 16 weeks, you need to treat it like it has no immune system and avoid high risk situations such as parks and pet stores. Preparing for Your New Puppy Shopping Essentials Before your puppy comes home, we recommend that you purchase several items. We've created a shopping list that we think is a great start. Please also check out our "Shop" section of our website for recommendations on Food , Vitamins , Crates , Books , Logo Merchandise and other great products assembled by Moss Creek puppy owners Chomp Products. Puppy Care Bringing a new puppy home can be a daunting task if you're not prepared. A Goldendoodle puppy is very sociable, which makes them perfect animals for households with children and other animals or pets, even cats. Just like the Labradoodle, this breed requires correct socialization to ensure they get used to different sights, sounds and smells during puppyhood. This means taking your Goldendoodle to plenty of doggy-friendly parks so they can meet canine friends and introducing them to other people. Our Goldendoodle puppies for sale are fully trained Doodles, so you can focus on the fun bits, like bonding, eating food and playing. These dogs prefer to live in a house with a gated backyard where they can get regular exercise breaks. Do They Like to Play? Goldendoodle Puppy Training These clever dogs are perfect for first-time dog owners because Goldendoodles love to please and take great pride in learning new skills. Are Goldendoodles Intelligent? Both of its poodle and golden retriever parent breeds are known for their intelligence and trainability, and Goldendoodles have inherited this breed trait. This means the person training a Goldendoodle needs to be strong-willed, firm and consistent — but never harsh or aggressive. Much like a poodle, Doodles are sensitive dogs, and positive reinforcement is a must to bring out the best in them. How Obedient Are They? Goldendoodle pups adore human company, and making their pet parents happy brings them genuine satisfaction. As such, correct puppy training produces a highly obedient and loyal adult Goldendoodle. Older adults, people with disabilities and individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders can benefit significantly from the warmth and sweetness of these adorable Goldendoodle pups. Are They Easy to Train? Doodle puppies can be mischievous and cheeky, but aggression is practically unheard of. So as long as you treat them with the same gentle respect they offer, a Goldendoodle is one of the easiest dog breeds to train. Goldendoodles have loads of energy and require regular exercise to maintain a healthy weight and calm temperament. A Goldendoodle need a moderately high level of outdoor activity — usually a minimum of 30 minutes, but ideally one hour, of moderate to vigorous exercise per day will keep Goldendoodle puppies at their best. Unlike puppy mills, all good puppy and dog breeders provide a certificate that shows health clearances. At Pride and Prejudoodles, our tests cover common health conditions. As such, you have peace of mind when purchasing your new puppy from us. How Long Do Goldendoodles Live? Goldendoodles live for between 10 and 15 years. We hope you found our guide informative. Please contact us with any other questions you have about our Goldendoodle puppies for adoption. Vocality level 2 in 5 Disclaimer: While the characteristics mentioned here may frequently represent this breed, dogs are individuals whose personalities and appearances will vary. Please consult the adoption organization for details on a specific pet. Temperament As a crossbreed, it is hard to say for sure which behavioral and personality traits each Doodle will possess. Overall, pet parents report that Goldendoodles are friendly family dogs who do well with children and other pets. Good puppy socialization is key to their development as a well-rounded adult dog. They have an average to high energy level and require roughly minutes of exercise daily. Due to their loyal, people-pleasing nature, Goldendoodles can be easy to train, and if done properly with positive reinforcement, can be extremely obedient pets. They prefer room to run around, so would thrive with a fenced yard. They may not be the greatest choice for apartment dwellers, unless you are big on daily outdoor exercise. Upkeep With an average-to-high energy level, Goldendoodles do best with more active families who can dedicate time to playing games with them. They thrive on socialization and playtime with other dogs to help to burn their energy. Mental stimulation in the form of agility or ongoing training will help keep their adventurous spirit content. If not properly occupied, they can sometimes become destructive -- another reason why they might not be the best match for a small apartment. Goldendoodles have a double coated fur that can be quite dense. Some have fur that can be left in its natural state but you should still expect to brush it out roughly once per week. Others may have fur that will require more upkeep, including professional grooming every weeks the more dense the fur, the more it will trap dirt. Otherwise, bathe your Goldendoodle as needed, brush teeth regularly, and trim nails times per month. Be sure to check and clean their ears to remove any buildup and avoid infections! The mix of the two did not appear in America until the s, but has been gaining popularity as people value a type of dog that could possess the low dander levels of a Poodle and the intelligence and happy personality of a Golden Retriever. The Goldendoodle was originally offered as a larger alternative to the Cockapoo, one of the early intentional crossbreeds. Because Goldendoodles are so popular, they certainly can be found for adoption in animal shelters and Doodle-specific rescues. Visit Your Tennessee German Shepherd Breeder in Person Before doing business with any breeder, you should spend some time checking them out first. If possible, try to talk to other customers who have purchased puppies from the breeder as well. You should also inspect all areas where the pups are kept. Make sure they are clean, dry, and large enough for the dog to move around in comfortably. Visiting your breeder will also give you the opportunity to see the parents of your potential pup. The parents should be healthy and have good temperaments. Questions to Ask Ask for References from Your German Shepherd Breeder in Tennessee Before doing business with a breeder in Tennessee, you should ask for references from previous customers. The breeder must be able to provide a list of people who have purchased puppies in the past. This is important because it will give you an insight into whether or not they are trustworthy and worth doing business with. These references can also tell you what type of experience other customers had when dealing with this breeder. If possible, visit one of their previous customers so that you can see for yourself how happy they were with the GSD Puppies from Tennessee. It is important to note that not all breeders will have references available. If this is the case, you should ask the breeder why this is so. There could be a valid reason for it, such as the fact that they only recently started breeding German Shepherds. However, if the breeder cannot provide any references at all, you should consider finding another breeder to buy your pup from. Ask Your Tennessee German Shepherd Breeder if You Can Meet Past Customers If the breeder you are considering buying a pup from is reputable, they will more than likely allow you to meet some of their past customers. Make sure to ask the breeder if you can visit one or two of their past customers. If they refuse this request, it may be a sign that they have something to hide. It is also a good idea to ask these customers about the quality of the puppies, their health, and whether or not they were happy with the purchase. Ask for copies of their papers and registration number so that you can verify this information on your own. Make sure that they also have a pedigree. Reputable breeders in Tennessee provide this for their customers so that they know what type of dog they are getting. When buying a GSD pup, it is important to make sure that the breeder has a good veterinarian they use. This veterinarian should be experienced in dealing with German Shepherds and their health issues. This is important because you will want to make sure that your pup is getting the best possible care. This will give you an idea of how healthy they are and what type of care they are receiving. They may try to sell you a pup that is sick, has genetic defects or is not properly registered. If you encounter one of these breeders, it is important to walk away and find another one. Here are a few things to look out for when trying to identify an unethical breeder: They do not have any references available They do not allow you to meet any of their past customers Their puppies are not registered They do not have a pedigree The puppies are sick or have genetic defects The breeder is pushy or aggressive If you encounter any of these signs, it is best to walk away and find another breeder. The goal of breeders should be to produce high-quality German Shepherds with great temperaments and very few health issues. Their pups should be registered on the AKC website and come with full documentation of their lineage. They are also guaranteed to be healthy when you buy them from the breeder. German Shepherds are prone to a few health problems, some of which are hereditary. Hip dysplasia is a common problem in this breed, as is elbow dysplasia. Gastric torsion bloat is also a risk, as is progressive retinal atrophy PRA , which can lead to blindness. Dogs with PRA should not be bred. Look out for red flags such as: -Do not allow you to meet previous customers or see references -Puppies do not have medical records and seem sickly -Puppies come with hidden costs and contracts that state all sorts of odd things. Make sure all cords are tucked away and that any poisonous plants are out of reach. Be sure to have plenty of toys on hand, too, as puppies get bored easily. Kongs filled with peanut butter or other treats are a great way to keep your pup entertained for hours on end. When you bring your new pup home, take things slow. The Right German Shepherd Puppy for You When looking for a German Shepherd puppy in Tennessee, it is important to find one that is the right fit for your lifestyle and personality. Not all puppies are created equal, so it is important to do your research before making a purchase. Keep the lessons simple at first. As your puppy learns each command, reward him with praise and a treat until he starts making the connection between the words you are using and what they mean. As with any new addition to the family, potty training will be one of your top priorities. There are a few things to keep in mind when potty training your German Shepherd puppy. First and foremost, be consistent. Puppies learn best through repetition, so make sure you are consistent with your commands and expectations. Another thing to keep in mind is that puppies have small bladders and bowels, so they need to go potty more often than adult dogs. Take your puppy outside frequently — at least every two hours — and give him plenty of opportunity to do his business. It will take a bit of time and patience, but with consistency and perseverance, you will be able to successfully potty train your German Shepherd puppy. A good rule of thumb is to feed your pup two to three times the amount of food an adult dog would eat. A good routine and quality food will help your puppy potty train. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. It all started when attending Missouri State University and I began volunteering at an animal shelter. st. bernard poodle mix puppy - If you are not yet aware you will understand some of the differences between working lines German Shepherd and show lines. To fully understand, it is necessary to first look at an overview of the history of the German Shepherd lines. When did the German Shepherd Lines began? It was during s that breeding of dogs were standardized in Germany. The main purpose was to produce dogs in assisting the shepherds in protecting their flock from predators. Throughout this period, there was also contentions of belief about whether bred dogs should be used for display of appearance only or should be for working functions as well. Until such time when a German captain and a former student of veterinary science, Max von Stephanitz, who strongly believed in standardizing dog breeding to produce working dogs, advocated such idea. His advocacy started after watching a show and was amazed with the performance and ability of a dog, Hektor Linksrhein, and eventually after buying it, he changed its name to Horand von Grafrath who was known to be the first German Shepherd Dog. Since then, the breeding of working lines German Shepherd became popular. His work became internationally acceptable and are being used until now. How did the German Shepherd Lines evolved? The results were successful when out of Horand came Schwaben and Beowulf which became the origin of the present German Shepherd work lines. In , German Shepherd Dog became more popular in America when its first exposure happened there. It was in America, where GSD shows became more famous because of this new breed. The development of the cross-breeding process of working line GSD greatly improved during the Second World War in order to help both the Axis Powers and Forces for both military and paramilitary activities. After the war, both America and Germany became highly strict in breeding and training program of the German Shepherd working lines. Presently, the breeding program of German Shepherd lines can be either for working purpose or for show or domestic purpose which will be the difference between Working Lines German Shepherd and Show Lines? To clearly distinguish these German Shepherd lines, it is better to look at their differences in purpose, physical and personality. Purpose Difference Basically, working lines German Shepherds are bred and trained to work especially in law enforcement and military functions. On the other hand, show lines German Shepherds are being raised primarily to produce well-structured and good appearing breed of GSD. These lines are actually intended for dog shows and of course to be pet dogs at home. Physical Difference Working German Shepherds have thicker and a straight body structure so they can work harder for long hours. While show lines German Shepherds are thinner with slanted back because their back legs are shorter than their legs in front. Unlike the working lines GSD, legs in back are longer than front. Working lines German Shepherds are preferred to have medium length double coat for better tolerance to differing climates. However, there are standards for show lines where color is a requirement such as strong rich colors like black, black and red, gray, black and tan, blue, or black and silver. Working line German Shepherds are preferred to be sable or black in military and police work. Sable German Shepherd Dogs are being bred by top working line German Shepherd breeders in the world with occasional black coats as well. Personality Difference Working lines GSD are more energetic and are sensitive to any fast-moving persons or animals because they assumed it to be a prey. They also use their mouth to experience the world rather than their paws. This energy is an effect of the severe training exposures they've been breed from. The training requires more special exercises that will develop its physical strength and intelligence in order to be prepared in hazardous field of work. German Shepherd Show Lines are calm and more tamed but still require cautions because they can be dangerous when improperly handled. However, their aggressiveness are usually expressed when there is situation that they need to defend themselves. Breed Types of Working and Show Lines German Shepherd For those who are planning to have a German Shepherd Dog, it is not enough that you know about their types of functions but it is also essential to be oriented about the major types of breeds of German Shepherd Lines. Below are some of the famous breed types of German Shepherd working and show lines. They have straight body structure, darker color, and big bones. They are more energetic and need to be involved in many activities for them to maintain good health. Most are trained by European working line German Shepherd breeders. West German Shepherd West German Shepherds are being bred for show purposes rather than for working functions. They are very popular when it comes to show lines GSD breed. They have a more sloped appearance compared to East German Shepherds. There is also a working line West German Shepherd which is considered to be closer to the breed of dog bred by Stephanitz. This West German Shepherd is excellent both in working tasks and even as a family pet. They are assigned to become protectors of territory and are being bred from the East German Shepherd lines. This kind of breed also undergoes intensive training to enhance health and muscle strength to be fit in military exercises. It is as well characterized by its dark color, strong nerves, intelligence and loyalty. Although both have differences in purpose, physical attributes, and personality, owners and breeders should be very careful in handling them to ensure safety whether they are at workplace or at home. So if you're a person and you're reading this, the answer is most likely no. I've heard a lot of people advise against it because they think that working line dogs are more aggressive. But actually, the opposite is true. Most dogs bite out of fear, and most well-bred working line dogs don't fear much, so they're far less likely to become a fear biter. Now that that myth is dispelled, why aren't working line dogs for everyone? Yes, you'll get a pup that's from health tested parents which will drive up the price a bit, and that's definitely worth it. But what really drives the price up is paying for knowledge. It is far more difficult than one might think to consistently produce puppies that have the drive to make good working dogs as adults. It takes study, training, time and money to pull off. A lot of it. You're paying for that acquired knowledge, a higher chance of getting a healthy puppy, and most importantly you're paying for working ability. If you have no plans to work your dog, paying for working ability feels like an unnecessary feature for many. Drive: If you've owned any other line of German Shepherd as a puppy, you remember the biting, the chewing, the destroyed shoe, or bite marks on a table leg etc. Multiply that by .The same prey drive that makes most puppies destructive, hyper, bitey, and gives them the zoomies is amplified. By a lot. They will play rougher and for longer. The only time they're still is when they're asleep. If you don't stay on top of things, you will pay a price, every time. And it will be like that for months. There's always that one person who thinks their dog is over the chewing phase at 12 months old and comes home from work to no longer having a couch. You might have a chance. A person who thinks they're prepared is often a person who is untrainable themselves. A person who is a little apprehensive is more likely to do in depth research, contact knowledgeable trainers who compete in dog sports etc. The local pet store training program isn't going to cut it. The week program they took to become a certified dog trainer isn't enough to prepare them to train your puppy, much less guide you through tough times. You will have to contact trainers who actually compete and have been working with working dogs for years. They are not cheap. In fact, you're better off joining a club yourself and training your own dog with guidance from experienced club mates. You cannot go half in on training a working line dog. You'll end up with a young adult dog that is completely out of control. It'll act like a puppy, chewing, nipping, jumping up, and barking etc. Knocking your guests and kids over while meaning no harm whatsoever. You will have to have control. You will have to have a strong relationship with your dog. You will have to set and enforce boundaries. You will have to learn to harness your puppy's drive to use it to your advantage. On a positive note, the easiest dogs to train, if you know how to train dogs using motivation and reward, are dogs with a lot of drive. They'll break their back for a treat or a short game of tug or fetch. If you harness their drive, they make very responsive, obedient dogs. Work: If you do not put in the work, you will be very unhappy with your working line dog. If you do, chances are you'll be happier with them than you've ever been with any other dog. So one must be honest with themselves: do you have the time to devote? You probably do, because it only takes minutes a day of training. But are you going to invest the effort in keeping an eye on the puppy, even going as far as using a leash indoors? Raising a working line German Shepherd puppy is much more labor intensive than raising just about any other dog on Earth, sans maybe a Malinois pup. If you are still here, and you still think it's worth it, and you already know of trainers in your area who can help, and preferably have found a club to join. A working line German Shepherd pup might be for you. Just make sure you get a puppy from a reputable breeder who actively works or titles their dogs, who has hip and elbow scores on their dogs, has guarantees etc. Don't cheap out and buy a puppy from a guy who just happened to buy 2 dogs with working lines somewhere back in the pedigree. You run the risk of getting a puppy with higher than usual drive who doesn't have a stable temperament, and you definitely do not want that! It's better to buy once and cry once, than to save a few hundred dollars now and spend thousands on training to "fix" temperament issues, or get surgery to correct severe hip dysplasia. Do you think you could handle the responsibility of owning a working line dog? If so, let us know and leave a like and comment. Contact Us for Details on Our Puppies! The joy of owning a working line bred German Shepherd is immeasurable — but a companion and workmate that gives itself over to you so completely requires a significant reciprocal commitment. Do you have small children, infants or other animals in your home currently and if not do you plan to in the future? Do you plan to crate train your puppy in addition to housebreaking? Are you prepared to feed a high quality food to your dog such as a grain-free or holistic food as a regular diet throughout its lifetime? Do you know the difference between the temperaments and character of a Working Line German Shepherd Dog over a show line or an American bred German Shepherd? Have you already consulted with a private trainer or know of obedience classes that are offered in your area that may be more specific to working dogs over an average Pet Store style all breed pet training class? Do you plan to spay or neuter your puppy when he or she is old enough? Are you financially prepared to provide care for your dog and seek veterinary care in the event of an emergency that may require hospitalization of your dog? If you are planning on breeding, do you have at least 5 years minimum experience as a Breeder? They are high energy, which is necessary for the type of work that they do. In appearance, working line dogs have a thicker coat. Upcoming Litters What customers say about our puppies "Dedicated to a fault is only one way I would describe her, there are so many positives.Dedication, patience, and caring are truly not strong enough words. Audrey and I discussed her breeding line and I was most impressed! She took the time to explain her dog's lines, what some of them had gone on to do : police, detection, protections, pets - it was impressive. I was beyond happy that Audrey not only had the experience, but also had the educational degrees to back up what she was saying. I did not meet Audrey when this litter was born but instead there were a few male puppies available black and sable but none had been actually chosen yet. Audrey put me down for a sable male per my request. I knew I would not see whatever puppy was to be mine except through videos, pictures, etc….She would send videos, pictures, and just general updates. Audrey was always available and responded quickly to any correspondence. I sometimes wondered when she slept with all these clients and pups. Dedicated to a fault is only one way I would describe her, there are so many positives. One day Audrey sent a particular video and I fell in love. It is the fairest way to allow clients to choose. Audrey and I continued to correspond sometimes daily and she was amazing. A day or so later, Audrey let me know that this little guy was mine. I believe that Audrey does everything within her power to ensure that clients do receive the puppy they want if the fit is correct. Now, we had to transport this little man. Audrey and I communicated a lot! I had never had a puppy brought to my door physically unseen. This was completely new to me yet, I know dogs are flown all over the world. Together, Audrey and I navigated this last leg of the journey and I could not have asked for more from her. Dedication, patience, and caring are truly not strong enough words to use when describing how Audrey was during this process. Audrey ended up keeping my pup who was named Malachi for an extra week. While he was there, she taught him his name and sent pictures and videos often. They certainly made my day! Since Malachi has arrived home, he is nothing short of amazing! He is exactly as Audrey described him and the litter Daisy x Maverick focused, well behaved, eager to learn, and dark stunning sable! Exactly what a great breeder should do. My experience with North Mountain Kennels was wonderful. If you are looking for a well bred high quality working German Shepherd l highly recommend North Mountain Kennels. Audrey is in a class all of her own and I am grateful that the stars aligned so that I was able to be blessed with one of her pups. He is a true gift and I look forward to all the days ahead with him. Thank you Audrey! Currently Available Puppies. As Goldendoodles are crossbreeds between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, their generational name will always include an "F. In the designation F1B, "B" indicates "Backcross", which means that a first generation offspring is bred back with one of the original breeds. As such, the F1B Goldendoodle inherits 25 percent of its genes from the Golden Retriever and 75 percent from its purebred Poodle. Both F1 and F1B Goldendoodle dogs make great family pets, but they do have some minor differences. For example, F1B Goldendoodles tend to be more non-shedding compared to F1 Goldendoodles thanks to the higher percentage of Poodle genetics. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments.
