This particular character trait makes the Golden Boxer a great watchdog. When left alone, the Golden Boxer is a rather quiet dog and could spend a huge part of its day in silence. With proper socialization, the Golden Boxer could make a perfect companion for kids as well as other house pets. Its large size could make the designer breed quite harmful to babies and toddlers, so, do be careful and ensure that they avoid roughhousing and basically any form of teasing. However, if the Golden Boxer looks more like its Boxer parent, do expect a square-headed shape and a short muzzle. When it comes to its ear features, the Golden Boxer looks more like its Golden Retriever parent having doggy ears that lay down. The ears also look perky and this gives the Golden Boxer its inquisitive look. The eyes of the Golden Boxer are oval in shape, hazel or brown in color and its feet are medium-sized, round, and compact. Food Requirements of the Golden Boxer Both parent breeds of the Golden Boxer are very energetic and active breeds and for that reason require a lot of rich, highly nutritious food. For the Golden Boxer child, there really is no exception. The Golden Boxer breed requires food that is rich in protein. On average, 3 cups of dog food is okay for a day. Again, the high level of activeness and energy that the Golden Boxer inherits from both its Golden Retriever and Boxer parents means that the hybrid would require a lot of exercise to stay healthy and less destructive. Boredom for the Golden Boxer is a terrible thing, so exercise them daily. Setting an hour or two aside for long walks a day is a great start for the designer breed. Also, the appearance of the Golden Boxer has an effect on the level of exercise that would be required for the designer dog breed. However, mixing dog breeds became very popular in the United States in the s and early s. We can glean from this that the Golden Boxer was only created recently — sometime in the last 20 years — likely due to intentional breeding. This makes it all the more important to examine the history of the parent breeds. We will take you through some of that history by exploring where the Boxer and Golden Retriever come from — and how their histories could help shape your Golden Boxer dog. Developed from crossing mastiffs, Great Danes, and possibly a Terrier, the Boxer was initially bred as a bull-baiting dog — a horrible sport that involves running a bull ragged around a field till it collapsed or till the Boxer is killed. They were then exported to England, where they took on similar roles and were eventually imported to the United States following the conclusion of the First World War. Given their late arrival in the U. According to the American Kennel Club rankings , they ranked as the 14th most popular dog in the United States in .Long before they were a mixed breed of dogs, Boxers were used in military and police functions and remain one of the most popular breeds for those functions today. The Boxer is a medium-sized energetic breed that loves to participate in family activities. It does best with an active, fun-loving family that can give it all the necessary exercise of an active dog breed. How Did Boxers Come About? Boxers later became stalwarts of American policing and the military following their importation from Europe at the end of World War One. Although crossbreeding in the United States did gain significant popularity in the s and early s, the Boxer was likely crossbred to create a designer breed. The History of the Golden Retriever In significant contrast to the violent and bloody history of the Boxer, Golden Retrievers have quite a different origin story. This intentional breeding led to creation of a golden-colored dog with high activity levels. Today, Golden Retrievers are affectionate, loving, intelligent, family-centric dogs with beautiful temperaments. Golden Retrievers have been used throughout American history as guide dogs for the blind, show dogs, and faithful companion pets. Golden Retrievers are beautiful dogs for just about anyone, except for the elderly, due to their activity levels and exercise requirements. Golden Retrievers will love you and your family until they can love no more. Their gentle nature befits that of a family with children. Golden Retrievers can also sometimes suffer from separation anxiety, so consider this when you consider how your living and working situation stacks up against adopting a Golden. Golden Retrievers were initially created by Sir Dudley Marjoribanks, a Scottish kennel owner, businessman and politician. Mainly for its temperament, frequently as a balancing act with another dog of a slightly less even character. Goldens are very popular crossbreeds with other types of medium and larger dogs. However, they tend not to be crossed with much smaller breeds due to the physiological differences that make natural breeding impossible. The Golden Boxer is one of the instances where crossbreeding naturally is possible and is more likely to produce an even-tempered, standard-looking mixed breed dog. One of the most important things you can do before you adopt any dog is to conduct thorough research on its temperament, health issues, and more. Active family dogs tend to do better with busy families. A failure to adequately research your new pet could lead them to need re-homing, which can be incredibly traumatic for the dog, you and your family. Make sure you research your mixed-breed dog well! Fortunately for most owners, the Golden Boxer is exceptionally likely to have a balanced temperament. The Golden Boxer borrows both dispositions from its parent breeds, resulting in a friendly, loving, energetic dog. The Golden Boxer may exhibit separation anxiety symptoms early on in the ownership timeline, although this can be corrected with training. The Golden Boxer will inherit plenty of its intelligent, clever nature from both parents and may surprise you with some of its early antics. The Boxer and Golden Retriever dogs are usually very friendly, so you can expect Golden Boxers to be equally friendly. The ease with which they fit into family units makes them excellent family pets. You can expect that your Golden Boxer may exhibit substantial energy levels to start with. This can make training somewhat tricky. The average weight of a Boxer Golden Retriever mix is between 50 and 60 pounds. The height of Golden Boxers is typically between 22 and 25 inches tall. While the Golden Boxer will typically inherit the short hair of the Boxer, your Golden Boxer may inherit longer hair, similar to the wavy-coated Retriever. Either way, the Boxer Golden Retriever mix is a moderate shedder that will require brushing once per week. When you combine Golden Retrievers and Boxers, you combine two dogs that are exceptionally energetic and are used to high activity levels. You should expect to walk your Golden Boxer for at least minutes each day as an adult, slightly less with mixed-breed pups. The average lifespan of a Boxer Golden Retriever mix is between 10 and 14 years, barring any significant health concerns. Houses with yards and families with children Temperament: Happy, clever, intelligent, protective, alert, watchful, and eager to please. Bred as a guard dog, this dog was put in an exhibition in in Munich and later arrived in the U. S and Europe in the s. They were used as messenger dogs, attack dogs, and pack carriers during World War 1. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. They also bark a lot when they are upset but make good guard dogs for the house when the family is sleeping. The Golden Boxer adapts well to sharing space with cats and other dogs. However, when small cats run away due to intimidation, the prey drive might kick in, and your Golden Boxer might chase the cat. These breeds are highly prone to bloating; therefore, they should not be fed all the food at once. The meals should be spread out to 2—3 meals throughout the day together with water. In addition, you should feed the dog an hour or two before an exercise session. When feeding your Golden Boxer, avoid foods that use meat by-products or other non-meat as their first ingredient. Once you buy food from the stores, follow the instructions on the package to ensure that the meals are served correctly. This dog tends to become obese and develop joint issues. Apart from food, the treats should also be kept to a minimum. To avoid this, you should schedule one long daily walk or two hours of engaging activity. Because of their high energy needs, the ideal owner for this dog breed is an active person who can bring the dogs along for a jog, hike, or walks. This dog can adapt well to living in an apartment, but with enough exercise outside. This dog species is perfect if you have a yard. You can plan for activities such as walks in the dog park. During the training, you should be firm and confident. Also, use positive reinforcement such as praises to encourage your dog to pick up commands much easier. Incorporate some treats to keep your puppy happy during the training session. You should also avoid shouting or yelling at your dog during training. The sessions should also not be very long. In addition, this may also be a perfect time to strengthen the bond between you and the dog. These dogs are moderate shedders; hence will need regular brushing, ideally once a day. Read on to find out if the golden boxer is the dog for you… Parentage Of The Golden Boxer As mentioned, predicting the physical characteristics of your golden boxer can be difficult as the parents are two very different-looking dogs. However, learning about the parent breeds is still very helpful because it provides you with an idea of how your golden boxer will behave. The Golden Retriever The golden retriever , as we know it today, originated in Scotland in the mid to late s and early s. There were many retrievers in the UK at the time. Their jobs were to chase down the birds, hares, or rabbits their human companion had shot down and retrieve it bring it back. In addition to their soft mouth, the golden retriever was bred to have a double coat to keep them warm and long legs to help them climb over and through dense brush. The area in which they had to do the retrieving was often marshy, so the dogs were bred to be excellent swimmers as well. For a more detailed look at how the golden retriever came to be, check out our dedicated article on their history. Golden retrievers are dedicated dogs who are highly loyal and easily trainable, which makes them excellent service animals. This means they are reliable dogs if trained and socialized appropriately. It is important to remember the golden retriever is a very high energy dog, which requires a lot of mental and physical stimulation. They definitely pass this trait on to their offspring. The Boxer The boxer is descended from an ancient lineage of dogs that traces its heritage back to the Assyrian empire in 2, BCE. The boxer, as we know it today, was bred in the late s in Germany. The breeders took the formidable Bullenbeisser and bred it with smaller mastiff dogs to create the boxer. The Bullenbeisser was a hunting dog used to tackle large animals such as bears, wild boar, and bison. Breeding with the smaller mastiffs gave the boxer a slimmer build and more temperate nature. This temperament and build has allowed the boxer to do many jobs over its lifetime such as war dog, police dog, guide dog, protection dog, and athlete. The boxer gets its name from the way the dog plays or defends itself. The Golden Boxer The golden boxer is not a mix you would expect, however they are the best of both of their parents. The golden boxer is a large dog measuring at 22 to 25 inches in height and weighing 60 to 75 pounds on average. There is no guarantee of how your golden boxer will look, especially if it is a first or second generation puppy, because the two parent breeds are so different. Your golden boxer can be a variety of colors, from black or brown to fawn or gold and have a short or long coat. Whereas their appearance may differ significantly, their temperament is pretty predictable. The golden boxer loves being part of the family, they are intelligent and protective, and they are always full of energy. The golden retriever and boxer have fairly similar personalities even though they come in vastly different packages; this means the golden boxer will have a similar personality. Love The golden boxer is a sensitive dog who thrives on affection and attention. They need to be loved on and cuddled every day to avoid feelings of abandonment. Even though they are large dogs, they cannot be locked out of the house and left in a yard their entire lives. Fun The golden boxer has a boisterous nature and loves to bounce around playing games. It is essential their energy is directed into fun and games where you actively play with them. If their energy is not positively directed, they can become very destructive and neurotic. Family The golden boxer loves being around family furry or non-furry , especially if the golden retriever side of their heritage is particularly strong. Golden boxers are an excellent choice if you have children, particularly children who can run around and play with them. Golden boxers will happily engage with other pets too! Make sure they are properly socialized and trained from the time they are a puppy in order to restrain their strength around smaller pets such as cats. Protection Owing to the nature of the golden retriever and the boxer, the golden boxer is very protective of who they feel is its family. Both parent dogs are used as working dogs and guide dogs, which means they have a fierce sense of loyalty. The golden boxer shares this loyalty for family and will guard your home and family fiercely against perceived intruders. Trainability The level of trainability of golden boxers is good to moderate depending on a number of variables. The golden retriever is a dog who is easily trained, while the boxer can be a bit more stubborn and resist training. However, if you are committed and consistent with their training and socialization, then training your golden boxer, no matter how stubborn they are, is possible. An untrained pug is much easier to pick up and put in a separate room than an untrained golden boxer. Large, untrained dogs with protective natures like the golden boxer can also pose a risk to strangers in the home as your dog will become overwhelmed. And if they are undisciplined, then they do not have the safety net of training to prevent snapping at an unwanted hand. Health Concerns Mixed breeds enjoy better health than either of their parent breeds because they have more genetic diversity and any breed-specific issues are diluted by having been bred with another type of dog. This means the golden boxer should enjoy better overall health than either the golden retriever or the boxer. The golden boxer seems like the ideal companion: loyal, loving, healthy, and the perfect cuddler. Golden boxers are full of energy. They need a minimum of two hours of exercise a day. This is a lot to expect from any owner so you need to make sure you are ready to commit a large amount of your energy to your dog. The two hours of exercise is best split up into smaller sessions throughout the day. They are large dogs and need to be physically exercised regularly to maintain their muscles and healthy joints. Daily walks, hikes, or runs that are at least half an hour long are ideal. They can be physically exercised by playing games like fetch, chase, or working through an obstacle course. Going to a dog park is also an excellent idea, provided your golden boxer is trained and has a strong recall command. Mental exercise is essential. Golden boxers are intelligent dogs and become bored fairly easily. Using puzzles and games to tire them out mentally is an excellent way to enhance their exercise needs. Slow feeders , lick mats , snuffle blankets , puzzle toys , and daily training are all excellent ideas to give them adequate mental exercise. As said previously, golden boxers can be stubborn if their boxer heritage is particularly strong. This means it will take you longer than average to train your golden boxer properly. You will need to devote time every day to training. Using a puppy training service is advisable with golden boxers; however, the hard work is done at home as you will need to carry through their training and be consistent to see positive results. However, with proper training, exercise, and discipline, you can reduce the amount of destruction your golden boxer is able to do. The puppies are called — adorably — Golden Boxer puppies! But before you are overcome with cuteness and rush out to find a litter of Golden Retriever Boxer puppies, it is wise to learn more about what your puppy might be like as an adult dog. In this article, we take a close look at the Golden Retriever Boxer mix dog so you can decide if this is the right companion for you! On one side, purebred dog breeders feel the breed lines should be kept pure. Any cross between two purebred dog breeds basically results in a mixed breed dog , or mutt. Conversely, canine biologists feel cross-breeding two purebred dog breeds together can have benefits to overall canine health. Since it is not possible to predict in advance which traits a puppy may inherit from either parent dog, the best way to try to imagine what your new pup might be like is to learn more about both the Golden Retriever and the Boxer. Origins of the Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever is currently the third most popular companion canine in the country. This gorgeous dog is of Scottish descent, with a long and honorable lineage as a working dog. This dog is just so friendly and sociable! Goldens make terrible guard dogs but wonderful best friends. The Golden Retriever, not surprisingly, takes its name from its long, lush golden coat. Origins of the Boxer The Boxer is currently the tenth most popular companion canine in the country. This dog, with its short coat and upturned ears, can easily turn heads. The Boxer is a truly ancient dog breed that can trace its lineage back to the time of the ancient Assyrians 2, BC. However, the modern Boxer arose in the s in Germany and soon migrated to the UK, where it became a favored working and pet dog. The Boxer gets its name from how it fights or boxes with its front paws — just like a prize fighter. What is the Golden Retriever Boxer mix dog like? The ability to predict what a Golden Retriever Boxer mix dog will be like has everything to do with the generation of puppies. The earliest litter, or F1 generation, will vary the most in size, weight, height, temperament, coat and other factors. These puppies are born from a pure cross of a Golden Retriever with a Boxer dog. The next litter, or F1b generation, will be more predictable in all attributes. These puppies are born from a cross between one purebred parent either a Golden Retriever or a Boxer with a Golden Retriever Box mix parent. Subsequent litters, or F2, F3, F4, and so on, will become more uniform over time. With longevity of breeding programs, what was once a hybrid dog breed may even become standardized as a new purebred dog breed! Males tend to be taller and heavier than females. Females tend to be about 15 pounds lighter and 1. From this, you can guesstimate your Golden Retriever Boxer Mix puppy will likely fall within the weight range of 60 to 75 pounds and stand .The Boxer, on the other hand, sheds very little and normally needs only a weekly brushing to keep coat and skin in tip-top condition. From this you can imagine how diverse the possible coat types in a litter of Golden Boxer dog puppies might be! You may find two pups with completely different coat types even within the same litter, especially if the litter is an F1 or F1b generation. Personality and Temperament of a Golden Retriever Boxer mix Even most non-dog-lovers know that Golden Retrievers are incredibly friendly. If they were people, they would be the ones planning the happy hours and pool parties. Boxers are bright, loyal, affectionate and loving. They are very patient and have natural protective tendencies that can necessitate extra efforts to socialize them in puppyhood. Both breeds tend to be exuberant and playful while young and can be stubborn at times because they are very smart. But both are natural people-pleasers and will take well to positive training methods. With two such positive, outgoing and people-pleasing parent dogs, you are quite likely to find that your Golden Retriever Boxer mix puppy has a lovely personality and temperament overall! Health Issues of Golden Retriever Boxer Mix dogs Both Golden Retrievers and Boxers, like so many purebred dogs today, can have certain genetic heritable health issues you will want to be aware of. Golden Boxer dog breeders who are serious about breeding healthy puppies will have their breeding stock parent dogs pre-screened and tested for all known breed-specific health conditions to avoid passing any preventable conditions on to the puppies. Commonalities in Health Concerns It is important to know that both Golden Retrievers and Boxers are prone to developing certain types of cancers. The ongoing Golden Retriever Lifetime Study was set up to better understand one of the most pervasive types of cancer in Goldens, hemangiosarcoma, as well as risk factors for other types of cancer and serious health conditions. The average life expectancy for Golden Retrievers is 10 to 12 years. The average life expectancy for Boxers is also 10 to 12 years. Socialization and training needs for Golden Retriever Boxer mix dogs Both Golden Retrievers and Boxers are bright, energetic, sociable and come from a long lineage of working dogs. This makes training both a necessity and, usually, a joy, since you will be working with a dog that really wants to learn, interact and please you! However, it is worth saying that smart dogs like Golden Retrievers and Boxers will only do well when trained using positive reinforcement methods. Is a Golden Retriever Boxer Mix a good family dog? This is true even for families with young children. Since German Anatolian Shepherds can have floppy ears, they are somewhat prone to ear infections. Check their ears and clean them at least once a week to prevent any problems. Top Anatolian Shepherd mixes The Purebred Anatolian Shepherd The Anatolian Shepherd is a large breed with sandy colored fur along her body, a dark muzzle and dark eyes. She has a thick, double coat; dark, floppy ears; and weighs anywhere from 80 to pounds. A working dog through and through, the Anatolian Shepherd is best suited for experienced dog owners. This is a dog who is a free thinker. While fiercely loyal and loving to her family, she can be wary of strangers and highly protective of those she feels she must keep safe. Large, muscular and dominant, the Anatolian Shepherd is not a dog to be taken lightly. Her protective, independent nature is instinctual and was bred into her for centuries. These traits could very well be passed on to her offspring, even if that offspring is a mix. Anatolian Shepherd Mixes Crossbreeding is an ancient practice. While controversial, many breeders today crossbreed dogs for a number of different reasons. In ancient times, crossbreeding was a way for people to create their idea of the perfect dog. Hunters often crossed breeds who were stealthy, had excellent noses and unique voices. Shepherds needed dogs who were fearless, intelligent and so on. Most of the breeds we know and love today came about by way of crossbreeding. However, it takes generations and years of refining before a crossbreed becomes a purebred. Crossbreeds vs Purebred Dogs People want to combine the desired traits of two different dogs into one. However, this is not always a successful endeavor and can be somewhat hit or miss. As we said, it takes generations of crossbreeding and refining for a crossbreed to be accepted as a purebred. Many breeders and dog enthusiasts may opt to cross the Anatolian Shepherd with certain breeds to enhance her intelligence. Of course, there could be many other reasons as well. It all depends on what each individual breeder wants to accomplish with that crossbreed. Combining the German Shepherd with the Anatolian Shepherd will likely leave you with a dog who is pretty similar to each of purebred parents. There is one exception—the German Shepherd requires a lot of exercise while the Anatolian Shepherd does not. Anatolian Shepherds are calm. Exercising their brains tends to be more of a necessity than making sure they are running up a mountainside. Still, the good news is that both breeds will do well with one or two long walks a day and plenty of opportunity for backyard play. You should also note that training and early socialization beginning in puppyhood is a must for this protective and intelligent crossbreed. The Anatolian Shepherd is already a large dog, and crossing him with a Great Pyrenees will only make him larger. Majestic, beautiful and intelligent, the Great Pyrenees is a fabulous dog for those who are ready to conquer all that fur. Luckily, crossing these two breeds will likely lead to an intelligent and calm crossbreed. The Great Pyrenees, as the Anatolian Shepherd, is protective and bred to guard his flock. Again, early socialization and obedience training will be a necessity for this hybrid to ensure he grows up well-adjusted and well-mannered. Nothing but massive lap dogs, Great Danes are beloved among many dog owners looking for a sweet, clumsy horse of a canine. Crossing the Anatolian Shepherd and Great Dane could give you a number of different scenarios. For the most part, it is likely your crossbreed will be smart and big. And while we adore Great Danes, it should be noted that they have a very short life expectancy. They can also be prone to a number of health issues due to their massive size. Both of these qualities could be passed on to their crossbreed offspring. They are intelligent, loving and make perfect family pets for those with young children. However, Golden Retrievers are extremely active and much more high-energy than an Anatolian Shepherd. They are also much less wary of strangers and not nearly as protective. Crossing a loyal, calm and protective Anatolian Shepherd with a playful, friendly and curious Golden Retriever may not result in the perfect mix. For this reason, it is very important that you utilize early socialization and obedience training with this mix. However, she is like the Anatolian Shepherd in the way that she was built for work. Still, she is not as much of a workaholic as the Anatolian Shepherd. Huskies are better listeners than the Anatolian Shepherd. They are also more eager to please their people. Huskies require much more exercise and enjoy running. Crossing this breed will likely lead to an intelligent and loving hybrid. However, whether she is friendly or hesitant with strangers will depend on her genetic makeup as well as puppyhood socialization. They make excellent family companions and are super eager to please. All she wants to do is be with her family and make them proud. The Anatolian Shepherd, on the other hand, would prefer to make her own decisions and think for herself. She is not so much concerned with learning to sit and stay. So, crossing these two could leave you with a few different results. If your crossbreed takes after her Labrador parent, you can expect her to be outgoing, friendly, high-energy and eager to please. However, if she takes after her Anatolian Shepherd parent, prepare for a dog who is loyal and loving. She may also be aloof with strangers and stubborn when it comes to learning commands. Or, this crossbreed could be somewhere in between. Combining her with the large, brainy Anatolian Shepherd will surely lead to one of the most intelligent and dignified crossbreeds on our list. Her appearance depends on which purebred parent she takes after most, but she will likely be a heavy shedder who requires regular brushing. However, the Aussie is outgoing and exuberant while the Anatolian Shepherd is not. A cross between the Australian Shepherd and the Anatolian Shepherd could give you a dog that is somewhere in between these personalities. Or, she could be more like one parent over the other. It all depends. German Anatolian Shepherds are large dogs with an independent streak and exceptional athleticism. Most registries group Kangals and Anatolian Shepherds under the same breed umbrella. No one would know for sure if the original breeders of the Anatolian German Shepherd sought a more independent herding dog for their flocks or a more trainable family pet. However, Anatolians Shepherds rose in demand with the enactment of the Endangered Species Act that suspended killing wolves and cougars that might threaten livestock. As Anatolian Shepherds grew more commonplace, it was probably only a matter of time before ranchers thought to outcross them with German Shepherds to create more manageable pets. Utilizing different breeds Similarly, shepherds using Alsatians could have infused Anatolian bloodlines to create a more formidable adversary against predators. German Shepherds trace their ancestors to two foundation sires, Hektor and his son Beowulf, and three major regions of Germany. Although probably around as a distinct type since the seventh century, the first-named German Shepherd Dog was Hektor in .He later became Horand von Grafrath. Strict guidelines under Max von Stephanitz dictated careful linebreeding and extensive culling to lead to one of the most versatile and valued of all working dogs. German Shepherds inspired their own working evaluation, known as Schutzhund, which is now the gold standard for quality obedience and skills in other breeds as well. Versatile working dogs German Shepherds excel in agility, search and rescue, narcotics and bomb detection , and physical assistance work. While the Shepherd is a relatively modern breed, the Anatolian Shepherd is ancient. Fossil remnants place large molosser-type dogs with livestock civilizations as early as 2, B. They descended from hunting dogs of a huge area called Mesopotamia, much of what is now Iraq and Kuwait, as well as a broad region around the Turkey-Syrian border and Southeastern Turkey. Historians believe Anatolia is the location most responsible for developing the breed into a fierce protector of sheep for nomadic herders. The Anatolian Plateau encompasses much of the vast peninsula of Turkey and is remarkable for its hot, dry summers and harsh frigid winters. The Anatolian Shepherd came to the U. The experiment failed because the Kangals overate, and the donated pair produced 12 puppies during wartime rations on food. The Anatolians made a more successful arrival in the s, took root as livestock guardians in the United States in the s, and joined the AKC in .They remain great livestock protectors in many countries and have found use in the Cheetah conservation efforts. German Shepherds have an uncommon ability to focus on a single task regardless of outside distractions, and Anatolian Shepherd Dogs are very serious as adults. However, the Anatolian Shepherd is no slacker either, not even given to games of fetch. Alaskan Husky owners attribute much of the work ethic their dogs display to previous outcrosses with Anatolian Shepherds. German Anatolian Shepherds are large dogs, 26 to 30 inches tall, and weighing 90 to pounds. Your puppy will most often be the common fawn color of the Anatolian with a black facial mask and the stereotypical white blaze that splits the face. Hybrids can also be white, brindle, red, or gray. Your German Anatolian will be physically impressive, giving you a sense of power and athleticism. What you will see in dogs such as Border Collies and German Shepherds is strengthening their instincts of pursuit. Therefore, you often must educate German Shepherds on who their flock involves. They protect those who belong to the flock and guard against strangers who do not. Depending on the dog, a German Shepherd may be openly hostile to unfamiliar people, animals, and children. A poorly-socialized GSD can be aggressive and bite without discrimination or be timid and fearful. Ideal German Shepherds are wary of strangers but polite with people you accept. Even in the show ring, judges allow a certain degree of aloofness but no aggression or belligerence and certainly no cowering. The Anatolian Shepherd is another fearless dog but not a herding breed. Anatolian Shepherds may have originated from hunting dogs, but like Great Danes have lost a lot of their prey drive through evolutionary use. The use of intimidation when guarding Developed for protecting livestock against predators and thieves, Anatolian Shepherds use a lot of body language in carrying out their duties. Programs across the globe from Australia to Africa to North America have been able to utilize Anatolian Shepherds to blend livestock welfare and conservation efforts. However, the Anatolian can carry out protective measures if necessary. They are speedy, agile, and powerful Your hybrid will most likely show reserve towards strangers but be accepting of everyone, including animals, who live in your house and on your property. Anatolian Shepherds guard alpacas and chickens as easily as sheep and cattle, so expect your horses and everything else to be well protected. Socialization is paramount, as for any dog, or your mix could be uncontrollably aggressive and destructive. Are Anatolian German Shepherds Dangerous? Anyone familiar with dogs knows any of them can be dangerous under certain conditions, regardless of what the media portrays. However, the reality is that certain breeds cause much more damage than others because of their power, size, and sometimes backgrounds. German Shepherds have a natural guarding instinct that, if combined with irresponsible training and poor breeding, can lead to serious bites and fatalities. Some locales have become motivated to ban owning German Shepherds, and insurance companies often also show prejudice against them. Anatolian Shepherds are usually protective without being aggressive. They can develop friendships with people in your social circle, but you cannot rush them. These Shepherds tend to be independent minded Moreover, Anatolian Shepherds determine who they like independently, and similarly to the Kuvasz, may never change their minds. Nevertheless, Kangals are steady-tempered and require a lot of provocation to bite. If you socialize your Anatolian German Shepherd, he will be slow to bite but probably not the warmest dog at his first meeting with an unfamiliar face. After all, is said and done, both Anatolian Shepherds and German Shepherds appear on various dangerous dogs lists that may restrict ownership and public exposure, and some places outright ban them. Bans usually are sure to list dogs under all their common names and specify that restrictions apply to all mixes involving the mentioned breeds. If you decide an Anatolian Shepherd German Shepherd mix is right for you, perform your due diligence and make sure your place of residence allows the dog with no restriction. With an ever-expanding list of objectionable dog breeds, you can safely assume a large dog will be on most prohibited policies for property rentals and insurance writers. Overwhelmingly, dogs like German Shepherds and Kangals earn a bad reputation by landing in the wrong hands of people inexperienced in dog training, unsure around forceful animals, or unknowledgeable about the breeds they have. The Fascinating Facts About Bite Force Bite force, the amount of pressure applied per square inch from the power of the jaws, has been grossly exaggerated for many dog breeds, namely the Pit Bull. Proclaimed to have jaws like a steel trap, Pit Bulls, in reality, do not have the strongest bite force, nor do they lock their jaws during and attack. Pit Bulls are only relevant here as a comparison tool. We talked briefly about the bite force of the Kangal, and here is a list of some of the fascinating animals mentioned earlier. Anatolian Shepherds are large dogs with an independent spirit, protective nature, and a working dog disposition. They are loyal to their families and are friendly, loving, and affectionate towards them. If an Anatolian Shepherd Mix takes after their Anatolian Shepherd parent, you should be able to expect something similar from them. Although Anatolian Shepherds are hardworking and tend to be natural guardians, they also tend to get along well with children and other animals that are part of the family. These dogs tend to have a calm and patient disposition and a friendly, loving personality towards their families. Their protective instincts mean that they are naturally suspicious of strangers. The Anatolian Shepherd is moderately adaptable and is better suited to a home with a securely fenced yard. They have a high prey drive, which means they also have an urge to chase in addition to wandering and patrolling their property. Unless the other parent breed has traits that would affect these things, you can likely expect something similar in an Anatolian Shepherd Mix. Are mixed-breed dogs healthier than their purebred counterparts? A mixed-breed dog can inherit any of the health conditions common to one, both, or neither of their parents. Because of that, you want to make sure you know about the other parent breed, so you know what potential things to be aware of. For the Anatolian Shepherd, potential health conditions include sensitivity to anesthesia, entropion, elbow dysplasia, and hip dysplasia. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing on issues to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. Although Anatolian Shepherds are highly intelligent and pick up on things quickly, they also tend to be stubborn, independent, and strong-willed. This, paired with their hardworking nature and need to have a job, can be difficult for first-time dog owners to handle. The other parent breed may introduce traits that could make an Anatolian Shepherd Mix a better fit for first-time dog owners. But, again, this is not a guarantee. So, you should be prepared to enroll in puppy training classes. These classes can be a great idea regardless because they often offer opportunities to socialize a puppy. An Anatolian Shepherd Mix can inherit a coat similar to either of their parents or they can inherit one that is a blend of both. The grooming required will depend on the coat types of the parents and the potential combinations that are possible. Should an Anatolian Shepherd Mix inherit the Anatolian Shepherd coat, they will have a dense double coat. They will shed moderately with heavier shedding during seasonal changes. Weekly brushing, brushing more often during seasonal shifts, and bathing as needed are usually sufficient to care for this type of coat. But, many owners overlook dental care for dogs. This is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. The Anatolian Shepherd needs daily walks, some time to run or extra activity, and a job to do to be happy and healthy. They tend to run a more moderate energy level and should only be let off-leash in secure areas. If the other parent breed is also a moderate energy dog breed, you should be able to expect a similar energy level in an Anatolian Shepherd Mix. If the other parent breed has a different energy level, you will want to make sure you are prepared for a dog that could fall anywhere in that potential range. An Anatolian Shepherd is large dog breed that is inches tall and pounds when fully-grown. You can also meet the mother dog in person to get an idea of potential size. Anatolian Shepherds tend to live years. The other parent breed may affect this slightly, but you should be able to expect a similar life span in an Anatolian Shepherd Mix. Featured Anatolian Shepherd Mix Article. The German Shepherd as you may have inferred from the name is a German breed. It was developed somewhere around the 18th Century. The main purpose of its birth was to make an efficient herding dog. The breed has evolved and developed to fit the needs of society numerous times over the past two centuries. The Anatolian Shepherd is the second parent. It is an even more ancient breed than the German Shepherd. The breed was birthed in Anatolia, Turkey. Here it was developed and primarily was used as a herding dog. The original purpose though is debated upon, and is believed that it was first used for hunting and fighting. The combination of these two amazing breeds led to an even more intriguing breed as the off-spring. Its disposition is that of a body guard too. It has long legs and a long muzzle. The eyes of the German Anatolian Shepherd are ever vigilant. Its coat is usually short length and straight. The paws of the German Anatolian Shepherd are padded. It has erect ears and a thin muzzle. The height range for the male German Anatolian Shepherd is usually 27 to 30 inches. The corresponding weight range is usually between to lbs. For females of the German Anatolian Shepherd breed, the height range is 26 to 29 inches and the weight range is 90 to lbs. We believe that the German Anatolian Shepherd will require close supervision with regard to its weight. We know that this value is slightly less. There is good news though. If you take it to the vet often and give it enough medical care, it will pull through the worst of times. Eventually the German Anatolian Shepherd can live to an age of 15 years. You should expect its price to be high. Normally it will cost you a figure between dollars and dollars. The price will change highly based on the health of the German Anatolian Shepherd. The German Anatolian Shepherd will most likely be a serious breed. It has an aim; it will find and torment anyone or anything that dares to threaten its human. Think of it like the John Wick of Dogs. The German Anatolian Shepherd will love cuddles and moments of affection, but overall it remains serious. Socialization for this breed is necessary to avoid any additional conflict in the house. Training the German Anatolian Shepherd will depend on the gene domination. It will either be very easy to train or slightly hard to train. Either way a Dog Training Book will help in diverting your efforts to fruitful efficiency. You should also rely on consistency to make things easier for both you and your buddy. Caring for German Anatolian Shepherd The German Anatolian Shepherd will require the help of its humans to better understand its own needs. We recommend giving the next section a thorough read to understand what determines its needs better. Thus it requires a dietary volume fit for its tummy. Normally four cups of a tasty Dog Food brand should be enough. If you are confused about what you should buy, then perhaps we can help you. The most that you will have to do is brush its coat two or may be three times every week. You will have to bathe the German Anatolian Shepherd after every month. Brushing its teeth is an activity that will have to be repeated every day or every other day, with Toothpaste for Dogs. Trimming its nails is an activity that must be repeated whenever you hear that distinct click sound when it walks. It will need at least two hours of daily exercise to remain healthy. We recommend taking the German Anatolian Shepherd to a park or any other recreational spot. It is precisely due to this apparent independence that we have to be more cautious about the health of the German Anatolian Shepherd. You will first of all have to keep the German Anatolian Shepherd engaged in its every day routine. If you neglect its routines, then it will get self-destructive. Apart from that, slightly connected to the previous point is keeping the German Anatolian Shepherd loved and appreciated. We both know that it deserves the love. Unfortunately that is not the case. The actual list of possible diseases is quite long. To keep the German Anatolian Shepherd safe and healthy, we recommend giving it a strongly monitored diet. You should also take your buddy for a weekly medical check-up to ensure the consistency of its health. Breeds Similar to German Anatolian Shepherd.

The Australian Labradoodle is different from all other labradoodles In the mids, The Australian Guide Dog Association received an inquiry from a blind lady requesting a guide dog that would not cause her allergies to flare. To achieve a hypoallergenic dog they needed to breed their proven Labradors to a dog that was already non-shedding, hence the Standard Poodle. The resulting Labradoodles subsequently have been bred to each other, continuing the multi-generational tradition without ever having to go back to the parent breed of the Labrador or Poodle. Even when the other types of Labradoodles are bred on for generations, the result is not an Australian Labradoodle, as the attributes of the infused breeds were not included in their ancestry. We have also produced many therapy and service dogs in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. Our puppies are birthed in our home and raised in our acre farm in the suburbs of Atlanta. Keep on reading to learn everything about French Bulldog puppies! French bulldogs All you need to know about Frenchies: a short summary History in a nutshell French Bulldogs were first bred as a smaller version of the English Bulldog in the 19th-century England. They were particularly popular among lacemakers in Nottinghamshire, who initially kept them to chase rats but soon fell in love with their small size and calm, friendly nature. After the Industrial Revolution, they had to move to southern France where lacemaking was still done by hand and took their dogs with them. Frenchies soon got popular in the circles of French artists, actors, writers in Paris as well as rich Americans visiting the city. In fact, they loved Frenchies so much that they took them to the US, where they finally got recognized by the AKC in .Frenchie Characteristics French Bulldogs are one of the most popular dog breeds thanks to their fun, adaptable, friendly nature and distinctive look. You can easily recognize them by their flat, heavily wrinkled faces and large, erect bat ears, which make them absolutely adorable. Despite having the strong, muscular body of a bulldog Frenchies are small in size: adult males usually weigh 20 to 28 pounds while females are 16 to 24 pounds. Frenchie Colors Frenchies come in a wide variety of different colors and patterns. There are standard French Bulldog colors like black, fawn, cream and patterns like pied and brindle, which are considered common for the breed. Rare and unique colors like blue and lilac, as well as patterns like tan and merle have gained more popularity in recent years. Frenchie Personality French Bulldogs probably have the biggest personality among all the dog breeds. They are funny, friendly and insanely affectionate, making them the perfect companions for anyone. They are also highly intelligent and need a fair amount of mental stimulation. Frenchies are like small children: simply irresistible! Giving only high- quality food, ensuring regular training and exercise, finding a good vet and not exposing them to too much heat is also essential to provide a long and happy life for your French Bulldog. They are little clowns who always do something silly to make you laugh! They are amazing companions who get along with everyone in the family from small kids to older people, other dog breeds and even cats. Shall we go on?! The exact amount usually depends on various factors like the color, gender and age of a puppy as well as the breeder you get your puppy from. Brachycephalic syndrome stenotic nares, elongated soft palate Intervertebral disk disease CHD seldom causes symptoms or problems Allergies History Where are French Bulldogs from? In the nineteenth century, the Bulldog was fairly popular in England, especially around Nottingham. The French women, especially, were attracted to these little Bulldogs, especially those with erect ears a common but disliked feature in England. Dog dealers brought more of the clownish little dogs to France, where they soon became the rage of Paris. The dogs were dubbed Bouledogue Francais. How big do French Bulldogs get? Some Bulldogs are quite small weighing less than 25 lbs, however, dogs in this breed on average, weigh 28 lbs. What are some French Bulldog facts and information? Facts French Bulldogs are best known for: Bat ears. Life Span Did You Know? While the name of this breed is the French Bulldog, their origins cannot be credited to only France. One of the facts about French Bulldogs is that the idea and reason for the creation of the breed originated in England. This adorable dog breed, which has always been meant to be a companion, started as a miniature version of the English Bulldog. This mini-version accompanied lace workers across the English Channel and into France during the Industrial Revolution. Once the dog breed became prominent in France, the subsequent successful crossbreeding of the English Bulldog, Pug, and Terrier led to the creation of the modern-day Frenchie. The French Bulldog we know today originally came to the United States with groups of wealthy Americans who came across them and fell in love while touring Europe in the late s. The French Bulldog was recognized by the American Kennel Club in and is a member of the non-sporting group. The French Bulldog is an easygoing, affectionate, and playful dog that loves their family and gets along well with children. They also love to make new friends, which means they get along well with other dogs, animals, and people. Intelligent and affectionate, this small dog breed certainly wins over hearts and earns its status as a popular companion dog. Frenchies are not known to bark much, unless you train them into it, but they are naturally alert and make excellent watchdogs. As long as they are well-socialized and trained, they tend to have an open and friendly nature. The Frenchie is a highly adaptable dog that pretty much adapts to any living situation that includes plenty of love and attention. Being a short-snouted, snub-nosed dog breed, they do not tolerate heat very well and are also sensitive to cold. This tends to make them one of the dog breeds that hate winter and you will want to make sure to bundle them up to stay warm while out on cold winter walks. Because Frenchies bond closely with their families and thrive on attention from them, they do not tolerate long periods of time alone. They can also be prone to developing separation anxiety if they are poorly socialized or you do not work with them on this when they are young. Potential health concerns to be aware of in French Bulldogs can include cataracts, cherry eye, and entropion. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances. Heart and joint certifications are recommended for this breed. Playful and happy, the French Bulldog is a great fit for a novice dog owner. They are sweet-tempered, eager to please, and eager to train. Occasionally, Frenchies can be stubborn and they do tend to have big personalities. Although this can sometimes be a challenge for first-time dog owners, it can usually be overcome with consistent and patient training. Puppy training classes are always an option and offer plenty of benefits aside from training. Standard coat colors for Frenchies are Brindle, Cream, Fawn, and combinations of these. They have a short coat that will shed a little year-round. Nail trims once or twice a month keep nails from growing too long and causing issues. Weekly ear checks, along with careful cleanings as needed, can help prevent ear infections. As a small dog breed, the Frenchie is more prone to developing gum disease. Daily dental care plus cleanings at the vet as needed can help prevent this and other painful dental diseases later in life. You will also need to take care of the wrinkles. Frenchies have hereditary face wrinkles and it is important to keep them clean and dry to prevent skin irritation or possible infection. The French Bulldog is an easygoing companion breed. They can be one of the laziest dog breeds that are couch potatoes. Frenchies will often be energetic when they play and will try to match their activity to yours. So, if you live a more active lifestyle, you need to be careful that your French Bulldog is not overexerting themselves trying to keep up with you. As a Brachycephalic or snub-nosed dog, they cannot cool themselves as easily and are extra sensitive to heat. They can also get winded easily, so be aware of this when playing with your dog or puppy and watch for signs of overexertion. There are safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs and you can work with your vet on specifics for your Frenchie if needed. French Bulldogs usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Frenchies generally live for years on average. With this dog breed being so popular, there are plenty of celebrities who have chosen the French Bulldog as their companion, which also means there are plenty of famous Frenchies out there. Also, French Bulldogs cannot swim, at least without a life vest. They can be taught to swim while wearing one, but they should never be left unattended around bodies of water or swimming pools and require constant supervision while in the water. Dogs live with a routine, and they are easy to train by having one. For this reason, make a schedule of the things you need to do regularly. Eventually, your pup will learn the routine events and will make itself adept at them. It will help you prepare for your pet, especially in the first few days of living together. As you allow your pet to adjust, do your best to create a stress-free environment for it. Always supervise it as it familiarizes itself with its new home. Still, it would be best to prepare yourself for loud noises when your pet is asleep. Moderate Training German Shepherds are highly trainable. It simply means they respond well, especially to positive reinforcement. Squeaky Toys Out of all toys, your pet will love the squeaky ones. For this reason, prepare for a lot of loud squeaks every time your pet is active. Thus, in picking your pet, you may want to consider getting it from the best. Golden retrievers are popular for their flowing and sunny coat. Still, Golden puppies are more fluffy than flowing. It will not take time for the puppy to grow feathers in his puppy fluff, which indicate a start of the full and long coat he will get growing up. Stage 1: From Fluff to Fur At around 3 months of age, most Golden puppies will start growing their feathers in their short, fluffy puppy coat. If the parents of the puppy grew adult coats later, it is more likely he will. This stage indicates the start of feathering. Golden Retrievers have feathers on their tail, stomachs and on their legs. Gradually, the rest of the adult coat will grow throughout his body. The recent growth of hair will be slightly darker than the former light puppy fur. The Golden Retriever puppy is different from other breeds because it does not shed his puppy fur. Rather, the puppy fur is pushed aside by the newer, longer and outer coat that grows in. The overall transition takes 18 months for completion. Grooming The best time to start grooming your Golden retriever is when it is still a puppy. Since they are heavy shedders, the more you groom them the less hair you will find around your house. It is advisable to brush in the direction that the hair grows. As your puppy grows, add these two tools to your collection: a pin brush and a rake. Brush him daily or at least twice a week. Getting rid of the loose hair from your Golden will allow new hair to grow in and reduce the flying fur in your clothing. The Golden coat Golden retrievers are double coated dogs. They are characterized by a thick, light-colored undercoat and a moderately rougher, darker outer coat. The environment of your dog will greatly affect the density or thickness of the coat. As per nature, a dog that spends more time outdoors will have a thicker coat than a dog that spends all the time indoors. The body will regulate the amount of coat a dog needs according to the temperature changes. Daylight is another factor that dictates seasonal shedding of indoor dogs. This is because such dogs do not experience the temperature changes that a dog who spends much time outdoors does. The underlying reason for daylight contributing to seasonal shedding is that it stimulates hormones that bring about hair growth. In the spring and during the fall, indoor and outdoor dogs shed more hair. Find the Best Undercoat rake for your golden retriever A golden retriever rake is a very essential tool to have that specifically targets the undercover hair. The rake helps to easily detangle debris and loose hair that get messy over time when overlooked. Other brushes like the pin brush target the outer coat only. Therefore, it is important that you get a rake that is designed to reach the undercoat to get rid of dead and loose hair. A rake has a big hefty looking grip with sharp pins that are built to penetrate the outer and target undercoat hairs. At the end of every sharp looking pin, there are rounded edges that sooth your dog while you clean it at the same time. An ideal undercoat rake should have:- Pins with rounded edges Pins that are strong and durable A handle with a good strong grip A design that makes it easier to detangle undercoat hair. Share 0 Shares Learning about the three stages of your Golden Retrievers coat will help you understand each stage of growth. It starts at birth as a thin short coat, morphs into a fluffy stage between months of life, and finally your dog will display their gorgeous long feathery coat as an adult. The 3 Distinctive Stages of Coat Development for a Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever was bred to have a thick double coat that meant that they could retrieve shot birds in any weather, such as during the cooler duck season. This thick coat kept them warm in cold weather, and the water flowed off their coat keeping them warm and dry. They have a lovely personality and tend to get along with everyone, young and old alike. But it is their beautiful long golden coat that they are known and admired for. But it dries to a warm soft and fuzzy stage that will keep the puppy warm and regulate their body temperature. At months of age, your GR will transition from their soft fuzzy coat which becomes the undercoat. They will start to grow their outer coat through the undercoat at this stage. Everyone loves a cute Golden Retriever puppy; they are so adorable with their fuzzy fur that makes them look more like a cuddly bear than a dog. Combined with their drop-dead good looks and their cute demeanor and cuddly disposition, you have one little puppy that will wind you around their paw and steal your heart. In the two to three months after their birth, they will be a little fuzzy ball, and here is why. The Golden Retriever puppy is born with a short thin coat of fur which is suited to them while they adjust to life and learn how get about. Their short coat is easier for the mother dog to clean, and it enables the puppy to move about unencumbered while learning how to walk, play and feed. Although their coat will start getting thicker in the first few months, they will remain short. In these first few months of life, it is a good time to train your little Golden to enjoy being groomed as this will become part of their weekly life. Brushing them while they are young gets them into the habit of being groomed because the Golden Retriever does shed a lot of fur and brushing your dog helps to control their shedding. This stage of coat growth and development happens around months of age. It often shows first in the tail area but be aware that this can vary from dog to dog. Their coat is a double coat. The undercoat is thick and protects them from heat and cold. The dense outer coat grows from amongst the underlying puppy fluff which settles to become the undercoat. At months they will start getting their adult coat. Each Golden Retriever is different, there is no set time that each stage must happen within. Asking your breeders for information about when the parent dogs of your puppy went through their coat growth stages will give you an idea of when that will happen for your pup. This full growth stage is from about 8 months onwards, again, depending on the dog. These long, beautiful hairs start on the tail, followed by the stomach, chest, and legs within their first year. From here on, the coat of the Golden Retriever will be shed several times during the year, depending on where you live and what the climate is like. The highest level of shedding occurs in the late spring, and the late fall. Other than that, they shed modestly throughout the year. When do Golden Retrievers Tails get Fluffy? Dogs are individuals, and the time that they achieve any key steps in their growth cycle can vary depending on the dog. The tail starts to fluff out at around weeks old and is made up of two layers. First there is the outer layer of long guard hairs, then the undercoat is comprised of softer, downy hairs. Each dog is different as to when their tails achieve the beautiful Golden Retriever fluffy look. The guard hairs start first on the tail which becomes fluffy and long by the time they are six to eight months old. The Golden Retriever is a very popular breed that is a great family dog. They have a lovely nature, plenty of energy, and just love their people. Their fur can get everywhere — on your furniture, on your clothes, floating in the house, and rolling around like a tumbleweed in the garden! When you get a Golden Retriever, you must accept the shedding that comes with the dog. So why do they shed so much? It is because of their coat; they are a double coated canine, which means that they have a waterproof topcoat, but they also have a soft downy undercoat. Their coat is designed by nature to help regulate their temperature. It is normally during the changes of the seasons — particularly spring and fall, that they shed the most. During summer their coat is thinner than usual, but they start growing thicker fur for the winter. But in saying that, be aware that they shed pretty much all the year around. Regular grooming with a rake comb and pin brush during grooming helps control the thick under hair. Regular brushing removes the excess loose hair from within the coat and can cut down on the amount of hair in the home. The climate where you live is a factor in the coat stages of your Golden Retriever. If you live in a hot place, they will shed their coat more to remain cool. If you live in a cold climate your golden will shed less to protect them from the icy climate. A dog who spends a lot of their time outside will develop a thicker coat than a dog that spends a lot of time indoors. As earlier stated, the Golden Retriever seems to shed all year around. But what if it is excessive, like handfuls of hair falling out — is that normal? There are certain things that can affect the amount of fur that your Golden Retriever sheds. It may just be a growth phase that they are going through, but it could be an outside influence that is causing a change in their shedding pattern. Allergy reactions due to pollen, food, or even their grooming shampoo can be a factor. You may notice them scratching more than usual. A dog with allergies also suffers from eye or ear infections so check them regularly to ensure all is well. Parasites such as fleas, ticks, and mites can almost drive a dog mad, and you will notice your dog itching themselves and probably whining at the same time. That thick coat is an inviting place to call home for parasites, so check their coat carefully, especially after long walks in wooded areas. Stress can affect your Golden Retriever. They need to be with their owners. If your Golden Retriever is feeling left out, they may begin scratching themselves or fretting which can cause hair loss. Make sure that they are also booked in for a regular health check with your local vet. The vet put your mind at rest as to what is normal shedding and what is not. A long rake comb can really sort out the dense undercoat and pull out any loose, irritating hair while a pin brush keeps the top hairs clean and tangle-free. With a consistent routine of grooming and washing your dog, you will remove the loose hair and be able to dispose of it. Sometimes when your dog is molting shedding their hair you can grab handfuls of their hair and pull gently. Brushing daily if possible is great, otherwise, try to groom them at least three times per week. Bathing, which is important to care for the coat, needs to be done once a week, or twice a month using a suitable mild dog shampoo. This phenomenon is a natural occurrence as your Golden Retriever ages. During the puppy stage , they are more of a light golden color, but as they mature, some of the longer guard hairs darken over time. Their coat is characterized by a thick, light-colored undercoat and moderately rough darker outer coat. The climate can make a difference. A hot sunny climate where they spend a lot of time in the water can make for a lighter-colored coat. The Golden Retriever should not be shaved as it is the worst thing that you can do to your canine. If you do a complete shave, it may damage the coat and it will never grow back like before. It can also result in skin allergies and damage. The undercoat is designed to protect the dog from both hot and cold temperatures. The springtime shedding of the undercoat helps them cope with the heat. Conclusion Golden Retrievers are known for their lovely, fluffy coats and long flowing tail. Their soft golden or darker caramel colors are beautiful and new owners are attracted to their looks, good nature, and goofy, adorable antics. But like most things, there is a price to pay for their good looks, and that is that they shed a lot. But with regular grooming and brushing, a bath or two a month, and the use of low allergenic mild shampoo, you will be able to control as much of the shedding as possible. And if you ask any Golden Retriever owner, they will tell you that the shedding is a small price to pay for such an affable, glorious dog. Golden Retriever Resources and Tips. The balanced body ends in a tail carried flush with the topline. The limbs are strong, and muscular, giving the Golden Retriever an energetic, powerful gait without raising the front paws too high. The golden dog has longer, smooth or wavy hair finished with feathers. Importantly, underneath the coat, a dense undercoat protects the skin from water. The acceptable coat colour is golden or cream. There may be a small white mark on the forecast. However, the coat must not be too dark - red or mahogany. When it comes to Golden Retriever dogs, the breed description also applies to size. Males are slightly larger than bitches, a common trait in quadrupeds. At the withers, their size is cm, and bitches - cm. The weight of males fluctuates around 28 kg and females - 27 kg. A golden retriever is definitely not a couch dog. You need to take him out for long walks to "run around". He loves all physical activities, including swimming. He is remarkably resilient. Originally, it was a hunting dog, so it happens that it brings various "prey" in its mouth. Golden retrievers have gorgeous fur, which is a dog decoration. Of course, the pet looks great if its coat is neat, shiny and clean. Dirt, tangles, bits of twigs, or food entangled in the hair take away a lot of the charm and are unpleasant for the pet itself. They can pinch, tangle and snag on everything. In case of exceptional lack of care, fur can start to moss and felt, which looks really awful and there is no way to do anything with such a mess of hair - only cut it off. So let's take care of our pet's fur so that it remains a natural decoration and we can be proud of it. What is the best way to take care of a golden retriever's coat? What is the coat of a golden retriever? Golden retrievers have a coat that is either smooth or somewhat wavy. The hair is quite long and reaches its largest size on parts of the body such as the chest, belly, thighs, tail, and front legs exactly their backside. These dogs have an undercoat and it is waterproof. Long hair is a beautiful look but has many problems because it tangles easily. It's also not very resistant to dirt, especially because golden retrievers in a classic coat don't have protective colours it means that after jumping in the mud it will be obvious. Dogs of this breed undergo intensive moulting in spring and autumn, which should be responded to with more frequent and intensive brushing. You should also consider giving your dog a dietary supplement to strengthen growing hair. Tools for golden retriever coat care Since the coat of this breed of dog is both delicate and quite long, we need several fur care tools for different stages of combing. All products should be bought in a good pet store e. Do not use human tools! They are not suitable; for example, the same comb as our dog is extremely unhygienic. So what do we need and what should we equip ourselves with? First, we need a poodle brush - it is perfect for smoothing the hair without tugging it too much. Secondly, a metal comb is irreplaceable when attacking tangles of all kinds. Thirdly, one of the following tools will come in handy, depending on what your pet's hair is like and what effect you want to achieve with trimming and shaping the different parts: a pair of degloving scissors, a trimmer, a razor or a trimmer rake. What are these tools used for? Primarily to shape the fur on the neck, ears, paws, bristles and tail. The combing itself should always be done on a dry coat. We make gentle, sweeping motions, starting with the head and ending with the tail. Do not tug or pull the fur. First, we deal with tangles with a comb, then we smooth the whole with a brush. Alternatively, we can apply conditioner to the coat during bathing and then use a metal brush to remove any tangles and tangled parts of the hair. After a thorough combing, if the dog is preparing for a show, we can spray over the coat anti-static liquid, so that it will not electrify. Cosmetics for golden retriever coat care What is the best shampoo for our Golden? A golden retriever should be bathed if it gets very dirty, of course, this should be done more often. Our dog needs special cosmetics, dedicated to shaggy dogs, not humans! Using our products will disturb the pH of his delicate skin, and may cause rashes, hair loss, itching and dandruff. Of course, for long-haired pets, a hypoallergenic one will also be very good, for exceptional sensitivities. Before taking part in a show it's worth using a special shampoo to increase the coat's volume and use a smoothing spray. Remember that the shampoo should be rinsed thoroughly and be careful not to get into the nose, eyes or ears of the pet ears of the dog should be cleaned and dried after each bath, because due to their hanging shape it is difficult to drain water from them, and in warmth and moisture fungi can develop. During washing, we can also apply conditioner or lotion for a few moments to make fur smooth and shiny. Then take a soft towel and squeeze out excess water do not rub or rub too hard. A hairdryer will also come in handy - set a slightly warm stream of air and gently, part by part, dry the coat. Don't exaggerate the amount of shampoo, as the hair will stick together and fall out, making it look greasy, which definitely won't add to the dog's charm. Let's also remember about regular trimming tufts of fur from between paw pads. To do this, let's use scissors with a rounded end. Grooming The golden retriever has a characteristic, long, dense coat of a golden colour, but does not moult excessively. The dog needs to be brushed 1 or 2 times a week, except during increased hair loss spring and autumn , when it may be necessary even daily. In addition, the dog's claws need to be trimmed regularly - otherwise, they can cause discomfort and pain. It is also necessary to cut the hair from between the pads. However, frequent baths are not advisable, except for recreational ones in open water. Golden retrievers should only be bathed when they are simply dirty. After each contact with water, his ears should be thoroughly cleaned to avoid the development of ringworm. More Dogs. However, this could be different in your case. Nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, no one can know for sure. It depends on many variables, among them: what shade your Golden baby currently is. The Golden Retrievers dog breed comes in 4 different shades: dark golden, cream, light golden, and golden. Puppies are usually born in lighter coat colors than their adult parents. Generally speaking, all Retrieves get darker as they grow in age. Changing color is part of their growth. Theoretically, all Golden Retrievers change color as they grow to match that of their ears. Are they darker than the rest of the coat? If yes, then the coat most likely gonna be as dark. If the parents are both light-colored, the puppy is more likely to develop a light color. And vice versa. If they are mixed, then this method, unfortunately, not gonna help much. The breeder, a good one, will eagerly answer your questions and provide information about the puppy. Most breeders keep track of every dog they owned. If their offsprings tend to get darker, then there is a big chance your puppy will be darker as well. Some Golden Retriever parents report that their dogs started to changes the coat color after the 2nd birthday. Others later on. In others, the dog got even darker. Again, this is not as common as puppies changing their color. In Short: Yes, all Golden Retrievers do change coat color as they grow. The general role, the adult coat color will fit that of the ear. As they grow, the coat changes to match the ears. As I always repeat, No matter what color or breed, all dogs deserve your unconditional love and care! I have lived with dogs since I was a kid. If you are looking for a Maltipoo in Ohio then you have probably realized that these beautiful little dogs are not cheap. Designer breeds tend to be more expensive than purebreds and crossbreeds, and the increase in demand for designer breeds means that Ohio breeders raise their prices accordingly. Prices may also vary because of the reputation and experience of the breeder, as well as the popularity and availability of the breed. For instance, if you contact a very small local breeder who has just one or two litters per year then this can be considerably cheaper than if you were to purchase from a large professional Ohio Maltipoo breeder. If price is your main concern when looking for a puppy then it may be worth considering buying an older dog instead of a puppy. Responsible breeders will offer at least some form of health guarantee and most will ask you to sign an agreement so that they know if their dog has been given away to an irresponsible owner such as a puppy mill or pet store owner. If the breeder you are trying to purchase from refuses requests such as these then you should consider giving the breeder a miss and finding another one who cares about their dogs and where they go after leaving the breeding program. A reputable and responsible Ohio Maltipoo breeder will agree to take back any of their dogs for any reason, no matter how old the dog is or whether they were purchased as a puppy or an adult dog. The Maltipoo is a designer breed and like any other designer breed the temperament and health status of the puppies can depend on which breeds were used to create it. You should also check that the breeder has done all possible to ensure that you will get a healthy and well-behaved puppy, for instance by testing both parents for genetic problems such as hip dysplasia and eye defects before breeding. Visit Your Ohio Maltipoo Breeder in Person Another way to find a responsible Ohio Maltipoo breeder is to visit them in person and check out their facilities. You should make sure that the environment where the puppies are kept is clean and also see how they interact with both their mother and father if present. A good breeder will be more than happy for you to do this as it gives them the opportunity to promote their kennels, ask for references or even offer an older puppy if you fall in love with one of the younger ones. Visiting your breeder in person will also allow you to get a better idea of their knowledge and experience with the Maltipoo breed as well as determine whether they are simply trying to make a quick buck or actually care about what happens to their puppies. Questions to Ask Ask for References from Your Maltipoo Breeder in Ohio If the breeder does not have a lot of references from other puppy buyers you should be careful and consider finding a puppy elsewhere. Someone who is serious about their breeding program will have no problem at all with providing you with information on how to contact past customers who can vouch for their honesty, friendliness, and ability to provide healthy dogs. References will be able to tell you whether previous customers were happy with their experience and whether they got a healthy, well-behaved puppy. You should also ask for references from pet stores to ensure that the breeder has not been involved in any puppy mill scandals or similar problems. Meeting past customers or even other breeders can help give you a better idea of how reputable your chosen breeder actually is and whether their puppies are well cared for. You should also find out whether your Maltipoo breeder has an arrangement with a veterinarian they trust and can work closely with. Responsible breeders will want to ensure the health of their dogs as well as that of their puppies so this is another important point to consider. Look out for The Signs of An Unethical Maltipoo Dog Breeder in Ohio There are several signs of an unethical Maltipoo dog breeder in Ohio and these include: the use of a puppy mill to breed puppies instead of a home environment poor living conditions for either the mother or father if present or even the puppies visible genetic problems with both parents no guarantee is offered with your purchase Responsible breeders will always offer some form of warranty with their pups so that you are able to have them checked out by your own veterinarian. You should also check out their living conditions as well as those of both the mother and father before breeding takes place. Breeders who put time, effort, and care into creating healthy dogs will be happy for people to visit them at home. If they are not please look for another breeder. Never buy a puppy if the parents are kept in bad conditions or even worse, at a pet store. Responsible breeders will also offer to take the pup back if it has a serious health problem. Reputable breeders do not have a lot of puppies in their care so this should not be an issue for you. Ask your breeder whether they have proof of sale from any previous litters as well as the official registration papers from the AKC or other body governing pedigree dogs. These can help show that your puppy is purebred and genuinely comes from a registered litter. How to Prepare Your Home for Your Maltipoo Puppy Once you have taken the decision to get your new puppy home there are some important preparations that you will need to make beforehand. Your new Maltipoo will be used to their mother and siblings so the move to a new home is always going to be difficult for them. You should also take into account your work schedule as many breeders will not let you take your pup home on the first day of starting a new job. This means that they may need somewhere to stay until you can collect them which is where having everything ready comes in handy. If this is not possible you should only let your Maltipoo pup stay in your bedroom for around 2 weeks. You can then gradually move them further away but never across the other side of the house as too big of a change all at once could lead to behavior problems later on. Bedtime Routine for Your New Puppy Your new puppy needs to sleep during the night so it is important that they follow a set routine. This means feeding them at 8 pm, brushing their teeth at 9 pm, giving them fresh water, and allowing them some playtime before putting them in their kennel with a treat at 10 pm. Potty Training Your New Maltipoo Puppy If you have a particularly stubborn puppy you may need to take them outside every hour for the first week and use an anti-bark collar if they cry too much. This will allow them to get used to going outdoors and it also gives you some time to teach them not everyone in your family is allowed outside with them. Potty training is best done when your puppy is between 8 and 16 weeks old. After this, they may become too used to going in the same spot or even forget that it is not okay to go inside anymore. Remember, patience is key when it comes to potty training. It is like having a child. Your Maltipoo might not be fully toilet trained until they are 18 months old or more, but if you work with them every day and praise them for doing well at each stage it will speed things up. As your pup gets older you should slowly mix in one healthier meal a week which could be something like boiled chicken breast mixed with rice and vegetables. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. It all started when attending Missouri State University and I began volunteering at an animal shelter. Questions about Maltipoo puppies for sale in Columbus OH? We have answers. Give me a general overview of Maltipoo puppies for sale in Columbus OH. As you may be able to guess from the name, a Maltipoo is indeed a mix between a Maltese and a Poodle. So every true Columbus Maltipoo puppy for sale should have one Poodle parent and one Maltese parent. The idea behind this breed is that they get the best qualities from both parents, including intelligence and obedience of Poodles, plus the cuddly and loving nature of Maltese. What is a hybrid breed or designer dog? A hybrid or designer dog is one that has been intentionally bred in order to have the advantages of two different breeds. Maltipoo puppies Columbus are designer dogs and are very popular with modern owners due to their great range of positive characteristics like intelligence, low-shedding, and cuteness. Are Maltipoos easy to train? If you're searching for an intelligent dog and don't want to have any major difficulties or challenges during the training stage, a Maltipoo is a great choice. Maltipoo puppies for sale Columbus are very intelligent dogs in general, thanks in part to their Poodle parents, so they're very good at learning different commands and like to please their owners. How much are Maltipoos for sale in Columbus? One of the first questions many people ask about a Maltipoo Columbus is how much it costs, but the truth is that the price can vary quite widely. It all depends on who you're buying the puppy from and what it actually looks like, as certain sizes and colors are more desirable and therefore more expensive. Yes, Maltipoos are one of the rare and highly desirable hypoallergenic breeds. That's part of what makes them so popular, and many people are looking for their very own Columbus Maltipoo for sale because they have allergies or just don't want to find lots of hairs all over their beds, sofas, and floors each day. How do you screen Maltipoo breeders in Columbus? There are many breeders and businesses out there offering Maltipoo puppies for sale in Columbus, but they aren't all equal in terms of professionalism, experience, reputation, and dedication to animal welfare. How does Uptown work? At Uptown, we aim to make your search for a Maltipoo for sale in Columbus as enjoyable and as stress-less as possible. To start your search, take a look through the Maltipoo puppies currently on offer. You can chat with the breeders and ask questions to learn more and then when you find the right pup for you, you can arrange pickup or even request that the pup be transported to an airport near you. Are Maltipoos good for apartments? If you live in an apartment or small place in general, Maltipoos for sale Columbus is absolutely ideal for you. They're very small dogs with pretty low energy levels, so they don't require huge homes or massive yards to be healthy and happy. Just be sure to take them for walks and play with them to keep them from getting bored or gaining weight. Why is Uptown Puppies different from other places with Maltipoo puppies in Columbus? Unfortunately, many of those same sites offer dogs from scammers and puppy mills. These pups often have serious health issues and shorter-than-average life expectancies, leading to big vet bills and a major disappointment for their owners. We refuse to supply pups from these kinds of places, only partnering with trusted, dog-loving breeders. There are various kinds of Maltipoos to choose from, from teacup Maltipoos to classic white Maltipoos, and we understand that you might have a certain variety in mind. That's why we work with a large number of trusted Maltipoo breeders Columbus all over the nation, giving our users as many options as possible.

Share on Twitter Over the summer of , my wife and I tried something we'd never done before. We took our two Greyhounds and Whippet on an overnight trip to attend a Greyhound gathering in Southern Pennsylvania. It would require spending a night in a pet-friendly hotel. We weren't sure how that was going to work out. While the two boys - one a Greyhound, the other a Whippet are up for any trip out of the house, our girl, a Greyhound gets nervous about everything, including wind. We made the four-hour trip with no issues, and upon checking in, found that we were being put in a room on the second floor, completely opposite from where the dog walk area was located. The challenge would be using an elevator every time we needed to take the dogs out for their business. Using stairs would be difficult, especially for our male Greyhound since he broke his leg during his time at a Greyhound racetrack, and he doesn't do stairs well, especially two flights of them. Get our free mobile app Surprisingly, our girl and Whippet were no problem. Our male Greyhound though for whatever reason, did not like being in a hotel. It was a rough night, to be honest, and we didn't get much sleep due to his uneasiness. The rest of the trip went by with no major issues. I was appreciative that there was a hotel that allows pets in the room and wondered if there are any places in the Greater Binghamton area that allow pets. So, I went about asking the question on social media, got back some business names. If you know of any more, let me know and I will add them to the list. Just a bit of advice. These businesses were submitted from our question on Facebook, and some may have certain rules or no longer accept pets, so call ahead before bringing Fido along. ACTH is a hormone that instructs the adrenal gland to produce cortisol. Occasionally, tests such as X-rays or abdominal ultrasounds may be performed to rule out other causes of illness. Cortisol is supplemented with daily oral steroids, such as prednisone. Aldosterone is supplemented with an injection, such as Percorten or Zycortal, about once per month. Alternatively, an oral medication called Florinef may be used to replace both aldosterone and cortisol. Your veterinarian will help determine which supplementation is most appropriate for your dog and lifestyle. Treatment during an acute Addisonian crisis may include IV fluids and other IV medications such as glucose, medications to protect the GI tract and glucocorticoids after performing diagnostic tests. They primarily served as working dogs, assisting their masters in warfare, imprisoning the slaves and later were even used in the bull fighting rings for bull baiting as well as hunting boars along with other large games. At the beginning of the 20th century, their numbers began declining because of the changing scenarios. In fact, there was a reduction in big game hunting, bullfighting became illegal while modernized techniques were improvised for guarding livestock. By , their numbers fell drastically leading them to the verge of extinction. However, in the s some dog enthusiasts, as well as veterinary students, conducted surveys that showed the existence of this breed in the Basque region of Spain, used for cattle herding and boar hunting. Hence, began the efforts of restoring this breed, with a breeding program initiated and breed standards documented. The Spanish Kennel Club granted it official recognition in .It was even recognized as a breed indigenous to Spain by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture. It is present in small numbers in Spain, but not acknowledged internationally. To promote it in the United States, examples of this dog have been sent to North America. Certain canines are regarded similar to this breed like the molossers belonging to the Canary Islands namely the Spanish Mastiff and Dogo Canario, as well as the Cimarron Uruguayo a South American breed. However, studies conducted at the University of Cordoba, identified the Alano Espanol to be distinct from other groups as far as their genetic inclination was concerned. Temperament The Alanos are calm, with a grave and thoughtful appearance, not requiring attention always. Because of its fighting and hunting instinct, it possesses a dominating nature which can, however, be stabilized under the guidance of a firm master. These big dogs are obedient nature, being extremely protective and loyal towards their family. They even get along well with the children of the family, emerging as their perfect playmates. Though not aggressive, they are wary and nervous at the sight of a stranger, going on to attack them even without any warning on sensing a threat or danger. Known for their high stamina and intense pain-bearing capacity, they fight to their might when the situation arises, and tolerate any injuries, hence emerging as perfect guard dogs. Because of this tendency, they should be kept confined in a fenced area that is securely locked when the owner is absent, to prevent any unpleasant occurrences. They may share a comfortable rapport with other dogs particularly those they are brought up with unless they are confronted or challenged by them. However, since they were great hunters, it is advisable to keep them away from smaller pets. These working dogs mostly love staying outdoors, fit for homes with a large yard or garden rather than apartments. Does the Alano bite These dogs with powerful jaws possess a strong bite along with a great ability of gripping and holding using its rear teeth. Though there are no instances reported, caution is required as its bite may prove dangerous. Care Exercise Owing to its big size and hunting background, these dogs need plenty of exercises every day including long walks at least twice, coupled with ample space to play and run around. Grooming With minimum grooming needs, these short-haired dogs would suffice with a weekly brushing using a rubber brush that would help to remove the coarse hair. Unlike most molossers, this breed does not slobber or drool. Bathe them only when they get dirty as excessive washing leads to a dry skin resulting in itching and scratching. Health Problems They are not known to suffer from any breed-related health concerns. However, being a large breed, they are sometimes likely to be prone to hip dysplasia and bloating. Training These fearless dogs are not suitable for first-timers or people with a soft approach. In fact, a firm, steady and patient master is needed to handle these big breeds with care and in a tactful way. Socialization: Since it has a dominating nature, it is essential to give the Alano Espanol puppies proper socialization training to rule out any unpleasant occurrences with strangers. You can also take the assistance of a professional trainer who is adept at handling big dogs. Feeding These large-sized dogs need about 3 to 4 cups of dry dog food on a daily basis. Avoid overeating since they have a tendency to bloat. It is right moment for few remarks our work system and philosophy. History Less - The name of the breed comes from the Iranian tribe of Alani, nomadic pastoralists who arrived in Spain as part of the Migration Period in the 5th Century. These peoples were known to keep large livestock guardian dogs and pursuit dogs which became the basis for the many regional Alaunt types. Dogs of this type traveled with Spanish explorers and were used as war dogs as was their role in Eurasia before migration in the subjugation of Indian Native American peoples, as well as in the capturing of slaves. The Cimarron Uruguayo is a South American breed that also looks somewhat similar, and is descended from the dogs of the Spanish explorers and conquistadores. The breed is also sometimes called the Spanish Bulldog in English. He was used to increase size in English Bulldogs.

These organizations only recommend the most reputable breeders who have signed an agreement to abide by their Code of Ethics. German Shepherd Breed clubs are made up of volunteers who love their dogs and work hard to maintain the integrity of the breed. When looking for a breeder, you should always look for one that is recommended by your local German Shepherd club. Visiting this individual is an important part of buying your new best friend, as it will give you a chance to see their home and facilities where the puppies are bred and raised. A clean environment is very important when breeding pets, as it will ensure that your new puppy is free of any illness or parasites. You should also ask to see the parents of your prospective puppies. The adults should be well-behaved and healthy, just like their offspring. The adult dogs should be friendly and come up to meet you when you enter the facility. Most breeders will have one of the parent dogs on site. Make sure that all of the animals appear to be well taken care of and are in good health. Questions to Ask Ask for References from Your German Shepherd Breeder in Arkansas Your German shepherd breeder in Arkansas should also be able to provide you with references from other people who have purchased puppies. These references can help give you peace of mind, as they are made up of former customers who have purchased a pet from the breeder. Be Prepared to Wait When buying a German shepherd puppy, be prepared to wait. Most reputable breeders have a waiting list for people who are interested in purchasing one of their puppies. This is because the breeders only want to place their puppies in the right homes. Advertising their puppies for sale too early can result in negative consequences, as it can cause potential buyers to look elsewhere. This may mean that you will have to wait several weeks or even months before you are able to adopt your new pet. You also run the risk of missing out on your first choice if you place a deposit on a pup and then back out later. Ask Your Arkansas German Shepherd Breeder if You Can Meet Past Customers Another great way to get an idea of what it would be like to purchase a puppy from your Arkansas German shepherd breeder is to ask if you can meet some of their past customers. This will give you the opportunity to ask them questions about their experience with the breeder, and whether they were happy with the final product. Most breeders are more than happy to connect you with their previous customers, as they want to ensure that their puppies go to the best home possible. Meeting past customers is a great way to get an idea of what to expect if you decide to purchase a pup from your breeder. Consider it a red flag if any breeder cannot or will not provide you with any of the information listed above. It is important to do your research before choosing a breeder, as it will help to ensure that you are getting a healthy and well-socialized puppy. Another good indicator of the quality of your breeder is whether they have a veterinarian that they use regularly. This can be one of the most important questions to ask, as it will let you know if there are any existing health concerns with their dogs and puppies. If your breeder is unable or unwilling to give you the names of their veterinarian, then it may be time to rethink buying one of their puppies. A good breeder will have a close relationship with their local veterinarians, as it helps them ensure that all of their dogs are healthy and happy. On the other hand, a good breeder will have an open relationship with their veterinarian and should be able to freely provide you with their information. Get Your Puppy Checked by a Veterinarian You should also consider getting your puppy checked by a veterinarian as soon as possible after taking them home. This is because it can help you to address any potential health concerns before they become an issue. Some of the most common signs include: The breeder does not health test their dogs prior to breeding them The breeder does not screen potential buyers before selling them a puppy The puppies are being sold at a young age Price is the only factor you are considered If any of these red flags seem to be present, it may not be a good idea to purchase one of their puppies. When searching for your new puppy, always do your research to avoid getting caught up with an unethical breeder in Arkansas. By following this advice, you will be able to find a reputable breeder that will offer you a healthy and happy puppy. They should also be willing to provide you with copies of the results from any health tests that have been conducted on the parents of the puppies. If a breeder is unwilling to answer any of your questions, or if they refuse to provide you with any health records, then it may be time to reconsider purchasing one of their pups. Consider it a major red flag if your breeder is unable to provide you with any health records. This is a mistake because it can cause a lot of stress at such an otherwise exciting time. By following some simple steps, you can ensure that your new puppy is able to settle into its new home as easily as possible: Start by getting all of the supplies that you will need such as food bowls and toys. Next, you should set up a place for them to take care of their needs. This can be as simple as an indoor puppy potty or as complex as a specially designed kennel run. Finally, you should think about what you will do with them while you are at work or school. If they come into contact with other dogs during the day, consider getting your puppy their own set of tags and collar so they can be easily identified as yours. Make sure to use common sense when preparing your home for a new German shepherd in Arkansas. Potty Training Your New German Shepherd Puppy in Arkansas One of the most important things to remember when potty training your new German shepherd puppy is that it will take some time and patience. Do not get discouraged if they have an accident in the house, as this is perfectly normal for puppies. To make the process easier on both you and your puppy, try to stick to a routine as much as possible. This means taking them outside to go to the bathroom at the same time each day. Make sure to praise them when they do relieve themselves in the right spot, and be sure to provide them with plenty of treats as a reward. If you are consistent with your potty training efforts, your German shepherd puppy will be fully trained in no time. Just like with humans, their diet plays a crucial role in how healthy they are. terry labrador puppies - His personality is sure to be lively. A Springer Spaniel coat is an important indicator of its personality. A long-coat breed will need to stay logged in with deep water at least twice per week while a type such as the German Shepherd may only need medium sudsing sessions because his fur is short enough not to require much coverage or attention. Make sure your pet understands where he fits into this family by showing appreciation on either side. Weight, Size, and Lifespan: The Cocker Spaniel German Shepherd Mix , is a proud dog with an easygoing personality that makes it one of the most popular breeds. They have friendly eyes and their quick wagging tails give them high spirits. The females weigh 45 — 55 pounds while males can range from 40 up to 60 pounds but usually average around 52 lbs. You will need toys for him so he can keep his teeth clean and still have something interesting like furniture or shoes, but the best part about this breed is their interactions with people! He needs at least ninety minutes of playtime each day to stay happy and healthy. This way both parties know what may or may not happen in the future down the road if any issue arises during childhood which can oftentimes lead us into adulthood without realizing how much our lifestyle choices affect these outcomes. The English Springer Spaniel is often mixed with the German Shepherd Dog, and these two breeds share many common health problems. For example, they can be prone to joint dysplasia or hypothyroidism as well as other Raynaud disease-related issues such as dog tears on their paws from working in wet conditions all day long. Diet Requirements: It is important to know that overfeeding Cocker Spaniel German Shepherd Mix can lead to health problems such as elbow and hip dysplasia getting worse. A good diet for your pup would be a Raw Food Diet which will make them healthier than ever before. Post navigation. Coat German Shepherds have dense undercoats combined with medium-to-long, rough guard hairs. In contrast, Cocker Spaniels are known for their luxuriously long, silky coats. A cross of these two breeds could inherit any of these two types of coats or even a combination of both. However, other color combinations, as well as markings, can be inherited, especially from the Cocker Spaniel side. On the other hand, the GSD double-coat sheds quite heavily but requires brushing only once or twice a week. Make sure you keep it dry especially after every bath to reduce the risk of ear infections. All other grooming requirements i. Strength German Shepherds have impressive strength but the opposite is true of Cocker Spaniels. Nevertheless, Cockers are hardy dogs and can be quite athletic thanks to their hunting and sporting heritage. German Shepherd — Cocker Spaniel crosses are generally quite strong. However, they are not expected to compete in strength with purebred GSDs as they are smaller and less muscular. This should be unsurprising as the ability to run fast is an important trait among game dogs. Nevertheless, they could still be expected to reach top speeds of 30 miles per hour. However, they will still need regular exercise to maintain the muscle tone their bodies are built for. Generally, these sporting dogs will thrive with 30 minutes to 1 hour of exercise per day. Playing fetch or going on long walks are good options. Additionally, romping around with other canine companions would count as exercise. Trainability According to the dog intelligence ranking developed by canine psychologist Stanley Coren, German Shepherds belong to the top tier of dogs. Their intelligence enables them to master a command in fewer than 5 exposures. Mixing Cocker Spaniels with GSDs is likely to result in a less intelligent, although still a remarkably bright dog. Purebred Cocker Spaniels belong to the second tier of dogs, which means they can master a command within 15 exposures. Even if the two parent breeds differ in intelligence, any German Shepherd — Cocker Spaniel mix is still expected to be highly trainable. Apart from intelligence, they are eager to please and have a strong work drive. They are affectionate, patient with young children, and tolerant of other pets. Additionally, they are protective but less vigilant and more accepting of strangers compared to purebred German Shepherds. They also tend to be gentle and even-tempered. Health GSD — Cocker Spaniel mixes tend to be of good health but could develop severe health conditions that stem from the size difference of their parents. Or, they could develop organs that are disproportionate to their bodies. Regular veterinary check-ups are essential to ensure proper development, monitor their overall condition, and address possible health risks early on. Additionally, GSD — Cocker Spaniel crosses that inherit floppy ears might be prone to ear infections. Much care has to be taken to keep the ear canals clean and the flaps dry. Lifespan Although some health issues might stem from the significant size difference of the two breeds, healthy Cocker Spaniel — German Shepherd crosses actually tend to live long and happy lives. In fact, they have a life expectancy of 10 to 14 years. To improve longevity, it helps to give your dog a high-quality, well-balanced diet as soon as you get them. This program was specifically developed so that mixed breeds can participate in various AKC events, including title recognition programs like Flyball and Diving Dogs. This dog was first developed in German in the s by a man named Captain Max von Stephanitz. He achieved his goal and the German Shepherd went on to become one of the most popular military, police, security, service, therapy, and pet dogs as well. Cocker Spaniel history The Cocker Spaniel is the 30th most popular out of American Kennel Club registered dog breeds purebred dog breed in America today. German Shepherds are known to be highly people-focused and want to please their owners. They are very people-centric dogs who want to be with their people as much as possible. German Shepherd Cocker Spaniel personality and temperament In this area, the German Shepherd and Cocker Spaniel have a lot more in common than their wildly differing outer appearances might suggest. Both dogs are intensely devoted to their families and are very driven to please their owners. So here it is hard to predict what temperament traits your puppy may inherit. An adult German Shepherd dog can easily weigh 50 to 90 pounds and stand anywhere from 22 to 26 inches tall paw pads to shoulders. The Cocker Spaniel as an adult typically weighs between 20 and 30 pounds and stands .From this, you can see how the size of your adult German Shepherd Cocker Spaniel mix puppy may vary quite a bit! Working with a later-stage hybrid breeder F1, F2 or later can help control for any size issues imposed by your living situation. In general, you can expect your GSD Cocker pup to stand between 14 and 24 inches tall and weigh between 30 and 70 pounds. However, Cocker Spaniels can also be surprisingly energetic, given their sporting dog heritage. German Shepherd training and exercise needs These dogs are working dogs to their core and their focus on tasks is unparalleled. While GSDs are now extremely popular as companion canines, they still need a lot of activity and exercise and do best when involved in work or agility of some sort. Training the German Shepherd becomes easier once you realize just how people-centric these dogs are. However, because the GSD is so smart, only positive training and reinforcement methods work well. Treats, pats, praise, and play are the best rewards. Cocker Spaniel training and exercise needs Cocker Spaniels are more all-around companion canine dogs and so as long as they have plenty of daily playtime and regular walks, they will typically be quite content as pet dogs. Cocker Spaniels are very smart and extremely sensitive emotionally. Only positive training and reinforcement methods should be used, as Cockers can get their feelings hurt very easily. Praise treats, and pats are great training incentives and rewards. But just how high that energy and drive to stay active is will depend on the influence your puppy gets from either parent dog. The German Shepherd coat is a thick, double-layer coat of a medium-length, thick, coarse, water-resistant outer layer and a thick, soft insulating under layer. Since maintaining coat function is of the utmost priority to keep the working GSD warm and dry, the coat sheds continuously year-round. The coat also sheds visibly and profusely at the changing of the seasons. You will want to keep your brush, lint roller, and vacuum cleaner handy during these times. You will need to commit to daily brushing and detangling sessions and regular bathing. Professional grooming may also be desirable, especially if your time is limited. The fine, thin hair can easily tangle and this can cause damage to the skin. Careful combing is essential — pulling on any mats or tangles can tear the skin. The coat should always be detangled before bathing or the tangles may become unmanageable. If the tangles are not groomed out daily, they may become so matted that there is no other choice but to shaving. This means you only want to choose a Cocker Spaniel if you have enough time to do at least one brushing and grooming session daily. If your puppy takes more after the GSD side, your time will be spent vacuuming, lint rolling and brushing. If your puppy takes more after the Cocker Spaniel side, your time will be spent brushing, detangling, bathing, trimming and perhaps making trips to the groomer. Here again, when you choose to work with a later-stage hybrid breeder F1b, F2 or later this can help you guesstimate the adult coat type of your GSD Cocker puppy with more accuracy. This can often strengthen breed health as well as contribute to other desirable traits. Both of these dogs can be friendly but personalities differ, so you never know.
