For that reason, we do not recommend the Alaskan Shepherd to first-time dog owners. Whilst Alaskan Shepherds are very friendly towards humans, they can be aggressive to other dogs and pets within the home. They should be socialised with other dogs at a young age to prevent aggression in later life. The breed is suitable to live with children, but they should always be supervised when around young children due to their large size and build. Alaskan Shepherd Health Note: If you have any health concerns about your dog, please speak to a registered vet. The expected lifespan of an Alaskan Shepherd is 10 to 13 years. As with all dog breeds, the Alaskan Shepherd is prone to certain health problems in their lives. Booking them in for these tests on regular occasions once yearly for example can help to identify any of the above-mentioned health problems early. The recommended health tests for an Alaskan Shepherd are: Elbow and hip evaluation DNA test for von Willebrand disease Ophthalmologist evaluation If you are adopting an Alaskan Shepherd puppy, make sure you have them vaccinated against preventable diseases and regularly worm and flea them. The half an hour every night it takes to teach puppies to take treats so that you can later reward them effectively. The 3 hours a night it takes to go through the whole litter for their first box game. The 15 minutes per puppy that it takes to teach them that you grabbing their prized possession is the best thing that could ever happen. These are the activities which give them the tools to seek enrichment and interact with their world in a confident manner. This is what makes them brave. We provide special bedding that allows our puppies to have traction while crawling on their tummies. Proper traction in the whelping box is crucial for proper hip and knee development—as research is proving the connection between hip dysplasia and environment factors such as whelping box material. Our puppies are weighed twice daily to ensure they are taking in enough milk and growing properly. We start doing car rides with them do desensitize them to the motion of being in a car. Around week three, we introduce food to them and give them a potty tray in with their bedding. This is because they instinctively start leaving their nursing bed to eliminate. Within a week, puppies will using the litter tray more often than their bedding. We complete the ENS program and continue petting and holding our puppies. You may not think much can be done with such a young puppy—but it is quite the opposite. At three weeks old, studies have proven that puppies have virtually no fear. They do, however, have a strong startle reflex. Dropping metal dog-food-dishes, banging around, vacuuming, sneezing, coughing, dropping a stack of books… anything that will cause the puppies to startle. We use a speaker and play Canine Audio Therapy noises. In addition, we clip puppy nails to start their acceptance of feet handling. And lastly, we are sure to remove puppies, one at a time and spend individual time with each one. This helps begin a healthy bond with humans, as well as reduce separation anxiety later in life. Studies have proven that physical activity in young puppies actually helps their brains grow the ability to learn and bond. So during this time, we make their living space larger. We continue exposing them to new obstacles and sounds as well as give them challenges to overcome. We set up problem solving scenarios such as an simple barrier between them and their food that they must learn to go around, to find food. Problem solving and learning are crucial at this young age, and we have a lot of fun creating ways to do it! As the puppies approach 5 weeks of age, however… the game changes. The puppies now develop true fear responses, so we use more caution in exposure. During this sensitive time, we are watching closely for individual reactions so we know if we need to help a particular puppy overcome a fear stage of a particular sound, item, smell or texture. They are coming into a peak time for socializing and continuing positive experiences. This is a great age to introduce them to as many appropriate people as possible. We also introduce more less-stable objects such as miniature agility equipment, which helps build their self confidence. We have the puppies evaluated by Pat Hastings at this age. She looks at the structure of the dog including the head and a little bit of temperament. This is a very important day for the litter because this is when we decide if we are keeping a puppy for our breeding program. Puppies visit the vet, are vaccinated, microchipped and puppy bags are packed! Home-raised, hand-held, child-tested Australian Labradoodles from Oregon. As with almost any breed, their socialization and training should start at an early age and continue throughout their life. Sound-proofing puppies Preparing Puppy Buyers As we mentioned above, the Puppy Culture program is split into week-by-week lessons. The whole program is broken up into four stages: prenatal period, neonatal period, transitional period, and crucial socialization period. Our short answer is, yes! The Puppy Culture method is scientifically backed and it truly is a great, comprehensive program that covers all aspects of raising healthy, well-rounded puppies. The Puppy Culture program teaches many useful Puppy Culture training methods, but also covers the importance of prenatal care and how to take care of mama dogs before the puppies are even born. Of course, not all breeders follow the Puppy Culture program and have instead opted for different, similar programs. Some breeders have thoroughly studied various programs and implemented all of them into their breeding practices. Regardless if a breeder follows the Puppy Culture program or not, you should only look for breeders who utilize various enrichment methods, such as household desensitization, socialization, and early training. Although puppies are so small, only 2 months old upon adoption, their very first weeks are going to shape their behavior and emotional intelligence for the rest of their lives.

Lifespan Sociability Sammypoo puppies are adorable little balls of fluff that stay in constant motion. That means you need to be extra vigilant about puppy-proofing your home. They also need a great deal of exercise. Be careful about what kinds of exercise you give your Sammypoo, though. You should start training and socializing them from the day you bring them home, as they can be stubborn and difficult to train later in life. They come in two sizes. As you may know, there are two sizes of Poodle: Standard and Miniature. Both sizes can be used by breeders to make Sammypoos, and the size of the Poodle used will determine the size of the resulting Sammypoo. However, Miniature Sammypoos will require less exercise, so they may be a smarter pick for older or more sedentary owners. While Samoyeds are almost always white, Poodles come in a variety of colors — 11, to be exact. As a result, most Sammypoos have a white base, on which any number of color combinations can be superimposed. The good news is that regardless of how they turn out looking, these dogs are adorable — but if you have your heart set on a particular color combo, this may not be the breed for you. Their personalities are a mixed bag as well. Fortunately, both parent breeds are sweethearts, so you should have a good dog on your hands regardless of who they favor. These dogs can figure out just about anything, and they can quickly master virtually any task you ask of them. If you try to convince them to stop chewing on your furniture, though, they may put their considerable brainpower to work trying to circumvent your command. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Older children will also be able to help train them, which would be helpful for both the kids and the dog. These dogs are extremely high-energy, so they do best in homes with large backyards for them to sprint around in. Given their high energy levels, you may want to bring in another pup just to give them someone else to play with. This is especially true if you have a yard large enough for the two pups to tear around at high speeds, as you can just turn them loose and let them tucker each other out. They have moderately strong herding instincts, so if you have smaller pets in the house, they may find themselves getting escorted all around the house. Your cat may not appreciate that, so monitor the situation as best you can. As with other dogs, your Sammypoo will accept other pets better if raised alongside them. Be careful about bringing home a new cat if you have an established, adult Sammypoo in the house. As a result, many people have no idea what to expect when bringing one home. Be mindful about what kind of food you serve them too. Obesity is terrible for any dog, but Sammypoos in particular. Watch out for ingredients like corn, soy, wheat, or animal by-products, as these are often used by lower-quality foods to add bulk while keeping costs low. Your dog will have difficulty processing these ingredients, though, so you should avoid them if possible. For omega fatty acids, look for ingredients like fish, flaxseed, or vegetable oils. It will take more than a stroll around the neighborhood to tucker this breed out although you should take them for walks, anyway. They need high-impact exercise, so consider enrolling them in something like agility training. Many Sammypoos love the water, so you might want to take them swimming or to the beach. This is a great way to burn off excess energy without putting a ton of stress on their joints. Taxing their mind is just as important as taxing their body. You can subject them to marathon training sessions, plan scavenger hunts, or give them puzzle toys to keep their noodles occupied. However, they definitely have a stubborn streak. First-time owners may not have the experience necessary to keep them in line. These pooches do best with positive reinforcement, so avoid harsh punishments. You should brush them every week or so just to corral any loose hair and prevent matting, though. In addition to whatever grooming you do, you should have a regular appointment set up with a professional groomer. You Sammypoo likely need their hair trimmed, and unless you have a steady hand, you should save your dog some embarrassment and leave the styling to the pros. These dogs need to be bathed more often than many other breeds, so expect to wash them once a month or so. Beyond that, you should brush their teeth daily , and trim their nails as needed. Clean out their ears at least once a week because if you let dirt and bacteria build up, it can lead to infection. However, there are a few things that you should look for. Minor Conditions.
