For example, the Schnauzer has a loving, loyal, laid back personality. This is something you can count on with this breed. This is formally referred to as the F1 or first filial generation and ONLY this cross consistently produces the Schnoodle characteristics that I have repeated highlighted in this website. Many sellers offer so-called Schnoodles produced through other crosses. One common cross is that between two true Schnoodles. In that case, the progeny are referred to as the F2 or second filial generation. Another common cross offered is between a true Schnoodle and either a purebred Poodle or Schnauzer. These are referred to as back crosses. Any reader familiar with basic Mendelian genetics recognizes the enormous genotypic and phenotypic variation that such crosses produce. Because the inheritance of characteristics is in fact more complicated that suggested by Mendelian genetics the outcome of any individual cross is entirely unpredictable.
