It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. If a English Bulldog puppy is too cool, it often won't show anything - but it can be deadly. Hydration is one of the most important things to monitor in new bulldog pups, as it can be one of the first signs of problems. Check hydration by by pinching the skin on the back of the neck or on the top of the back. If the pinched skin stays creased, the English Bulldog puppy is dehydrated and needs fluid replacement. Put it in a pocket so that it's warm and jiggled as you walk around, or if you are a woman put it in your bra for your body heat. There are lots of little ways to accomplish it. Don't worry about feeding formula to a chilled English Bulldog puppy because it will have the opposite effect: their body cannot handle the food and makes it all the worse for the English Bulldog puppy. Priority should be to get the bulldog puppy warmed up slowly. Newborn English Bulldog puppies cannot regulate their body temperature or body functions like urinating and stools. It is important that they are pottied at each feeding. They might not have a stool each time, but they will urinate. This is what the mother does when she licks them. But some mothers don't want to be bothered, especially the first few days. After that, she will become a good mommy. Make sure to check them even if the mother cleans them. Often the stool will get stuck to the tail and be dry. If that happens, or if the English Bulldog puppy seems to be straining and constipated, try the following: Run warm water in the sink slowly. Put a drop of soap on their behinds, and wash and massage their behinds; it will get the tail and poop unstuck, clean them up, and cause them to potty very well. Red Nose Pitbulls were recognized for their ferocity and gameness and therefore the creators used selective breeding to retain the purity of the strain. You can end up spending thousands of dollars on a Red Nose Pitbull when buying from a breeder. Lets take a look at some of their most prominent characteristics. Appearance The Red Nose Pitbull has a stocky and athletic appearance, which makes them larger than the average Pitbull. A Red Nose Pitbull can weigh anywhere between 30 to 50 lbs for a female and up to 65 lbs for a male. Their chiseled head is like a brick and they have very strong, powerful jaws. They also have a muscular neck and a full chest for extra strength. Color Types The Red Nose Pitbull has a beautiful red, brown or copper color to their fur, lips and toenails, plus amber eyes. They can also have patterns of white fur on their bodies, particularly on their chest and toes. These are unique features in a Red Nose Pitbull that you can see from birth. A Red Nose Pitbull craves interaction, attention and companionship. They love to be around you and are gentle and friendly dogs. They are great pets for the family and are known for being great with children. That being said, you should have experience with training a larger dog before taking a Red Nose Pitbull into your home, so you can be sure you will be able to control them. We will go into more detail about training your Red Nose Pitbull below. Lifespan A Red Nose Pitbull is a hardy dog that has a life expectancy of about 14 years. However, some Red Nose Pitbulls have been known to live up to 16 years. Known Health Issues Pitbulls are known for being more of a hardy dog with less health issues than many other breeds of dog. However, there are some known health issues within this breed. Red Nose Pitbulls can suffer with joint problems because of their posture. Because their frame is heavy, it puts strain on their ligaments and joints. This can cause chronic damage and even leg lameness. One way to stop this from happening is to make sure they do not become overweight. They are also likely to suffer from retinal degradation, which affects their sight. If you suspect your dog is having problems with their vision, you should take them to the vet. Hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy and kneecap dislocation are three other health problems Red Nose Pitbulls can suffer with too. Daily Life Red Nose Pitbull Terriers are a strong and active dog that really benefit from being outside. They also need a good diet to stay healthy, as well as a lot of social interaction from you. It should always be well-balanced and healthy, changing as they get older and their calorie needs change. Once they reach six months, you can switch their schedule to just three meals a day. If you want them to be healthy, you should feed them the four to six meals a day. Adults Once your Red Nose Pitbull reaches 18 months, their diet should be switched again to work for their changing body. If your Pitbull is large they may need three cups of food a day, where as a smaller Pitbull may only need two-thirds of a cup or less of dry food a day. Be careful with overfeeding your Pitbull. A fit and healthy Pitbull should have an hourglass figure when you look down at their body and you should be able to feel their ribs. Exercise It is very important that your Red Nose Pitbull gets the right amount of exercise. As we mentioned above, Red Nose Pitbulls are active dogs who benefit from being outside. You should give them around an hour of exercise, both physically and mentally, to keep them in the best shape. They can enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities, so their is no excuse for not playing with them. Family Compatibility Red Nose Pitbulls are great family doggies and are known for being great with children. It is often advised that you have some experience with larger dogs or training a larger dog before picking a Red Nose Pitbull to join your home. Your Red Nose Pitbull dog needs to be socialized from a very early age so they understand how to react in certain unfamiliar situations. This will help them to realize that not everything around them is a threat. If they are well socialized, your dog will be the most sociable dog in your area. Red Nose Pitbulls love to be around people and do not do well when left on their own for long periods of time. If your Pitbull is left alone for more than hours at a time, they can begin to show signs of separation anxiety and you may notice some destructive behavior. You should make sure they have plenty of toys if you do need to go out for longer than that. You should also give your Red Nose Pitbull somewhere in the house that is just theirs. This is great for when they feel overwhelmed and need some quiet time to themselves. Training Most Red Nose Pitbulls are very easy to train. They are very intelligent animals and work well with the use of lots of positive reinforcement, rewards and praise. They love treats and toys when they do something right. You will need to make sure you establish who is in charge when first training your Pitbull. Make sure you use a strong voice and maintain eye contact. By showing them you love them, it will actually speed up the training process and make it much easier for you. Grooming We mentioned above that Red Nose Pitbulls are very easy to groom because of their smooth and short coat. You should brush their coat daily, but this is very easy because the hairs are very fine. You can give them a bath once a month or when needed, using on a dog shampoo to not cause irritation. You should also brush their teeth once a day to prevent bad breath, or you can use chewable dental sticks. We touched on this above but the answer is no. There is a common misconception that all Pitbulls are dangerous, but when trained properly and brought up in a loving and caring environment, Red Nose Pitbulls are affectionate, loyal dogs and love to be around people. Are Red Nose Pitbulls illegal? In some areas of the United States, Australia and the UK, Pitbulls and other related dog breeds are under breed-specific laws. These laws prevent residents in those areas from owning these dogs, expect from under special circumstances. Pitbulls in these areas are seen as a danger because of their reputation and dog fighting background, even though there is a huge amount of evidence to show that when trained properly Pitbulls make great pets. A Blue Nose Pitbull has a coat that is normally in a shade of gray, with a hint of blue. Aside from those differences, they are very similar. They have the same temperament and make great family pets. Neither of them are violent. How much does a Red Nose Pitbull cost? The cost of a Red Nose Pitbull depends on where you buy them from. It is important to remember that just because one breeder is more expensive than another, it does not necessarily mean you are getting a better dog. You should meet the breeder first before buying and look at the way they are raising the puppies to see if they are happy and healthy. You can also always adopt a Red Nose Pitbull. Many end up shelters because their previous owners did not do enough research about them. Rescuing a Red Nose Pitbull is much more affordable than buying one. With the right training and social interaction, these dogs are sweet, loving and good-natured. They love spending time with you and benefit from lots of exercise. You should be familiar with training a large dog before purchasing or rescuing a Red Nose Pitbull, although training is not hard but is essential. The muzzle should be broad with wide-open nostrils moderate in length approximately 2. The lips should be full with red or reddish brown pigmentation; some pink allowed but not preferred. The chin is well defined and should be even to or slightly overlapping the upper lip but not cover it, its length and width should be proportionate to the overall head side. Nose color must be red or reddish brown pigmentation only. Cosmetic Faults: Pink, dudley, or grizzle colors will occur but are considered cosmetic faults. Including; black, grey, blue or albinism. The Red-Tiger Bulldog has a complete set of medium to large white teeth and should not be visible when mouth is closed. A tight undershot reverse scissors preferred. The shoulder must appear conditioned, and massive, it should display each of the three parts of the triceps muscle during movement and the deltoids should appear as two moderate to prominent cords traveling from the triceps up into the wither and neck region. The chest of a RTB should appear to be carried proudly and give the impression of a gladiators shield or breastplate leading him into battle. The forearm should appear heavily padded with muscle. The forearm although not having massive muscle, should still display moderate depth and separation between the many muscle groups of this area. The forearm should be tight. It should be very firm to the touch do to the padded muscle aside from the hardness of the bone. The forearm should reveal definition when standing, when seated and must exhibit burst of striation during movement. Each member should be very round both inside and out when standing. The hind quarter should appear charged and ready to explode into action. When in motion, the hind quarter should exhibit several points of definition and appear to propel the animal forward with an extreme level of controlled thrust. Temperament The RTB is trustworthy and discerning, with a desire to under-gird his master. The Red-Tiger Bulldog is always loyal to its family but may not be welcoming to un-escorted house guest. They have a strong prey drive. They get along well with familiar dogs and animals. The Red-Tiger Bulldog needs a firm, consistent and confident owner. This Breed is intelligent and eager to please, yet can be stubborn and push for play time during training sessions.
