Willow is about 25lbs and is a pretty average size. We know a few Mini Goldendoodles that are in the low 30s and I believe they can go up to 35lbs. But it really depend on the dog. They require a lot of grooming to avoid mats. I brush my dog regularly and send him to the groomer every 6 weeks max to avoid him to be shaved. These small dogs are portable and versatile, so they can easily fit in a dedicated dog carrier or backpack, a doggie carseat and in a travel crate. Modern films have long showcased the caring, loving and loyal nature of the Golden Retriever. The Mini Goldendoodle may also inherit some of these traits, although their small size requires parents to educate their children on how to respectfully interact and play with these dogs. They are extremely family-friendly dogs. They love humans and pets alike. Many Mini Goldendoodle owners will take their dog to a groomer every few months for a trim — too. Barking Poodles are sometimes dubbed a loud breed, with the tendency to bark at anything. This is a trait that a Mini Goldendoodle could potentially inherit. If your Mini Goldendoodle does excessively bark, you could work on it with a dog behaviorist. Appearing in the mids, the mini goldendoodle is the result of breeding a miniature poodle and a golden retriever. Designed to take on the smarts of the poodle and the gentle disposition of the golden retriever, these dogs are intelligent and active, with a mild temperament. Poodles originated in Germany and were historically used for hunting and retrieval. They gained popularity among the French, where they were refined into three additional sizes — standard, miniature and toy. While these dogs became associated with high society, they were also known as affectionate and easy to train. As working dogs and loyal companions, golden retrievers have since become one of the most popular purebred dogs in America. Fast forward to present day, and the mini goldendoodle — having inherited traits from both breeds — is a gentle, loving canine that is intelligent and easy to train. Due to the inheritance of the long-haired golden retriever and the curly poodle, these dogs are a ball of fluff as puppies. Not only are they adorable, but they also have a teddy-bear appearance that makes them irresistible to would-be pet parents. Mini goldendoodles can vary in size depending on which breed characteristics they take on. However, mini goldendoodles are generally well proportioned with large, expressive eyes, a rounded head, and a short to medium-sized muzzle. They also have floppy ears and a long, fluffy, or feathered tail like the golden retriever. What Size Is a Mini Goldendoodle? As a hybrid dog, mini goldendoodles range in size and weight. Generally, though, MGs can weigh anywhere from 15 to 35 pounds and reach a height of between 13 to 30 inches. The size of a mini goldendoodle can also depend on the height and weight of its parents. The coat of a mini goldendoodle changes as it ages. As a puppy, the coat is fluffy, maturing into wavy, flat, or curly fur. However, if your goldendoodle takes on more characteristics of the golden retriever, its fur can also be straight, too. They also come in colors ranging from golden to red to dark brown. Mini goldendoodles are known for their gentle and mild-tempered natures. These dogs are eager to please and are loyal, sociable, and incredibly playful. Both poodles and golden retrievers are also known for their smarts, so MGs take on this trait, making them easy to train. Are Mini Goldendoodles Affectionate? Mini goldendoodles are affectionate animals. These dogs love a good cuddle, as well as spending plenty of time with their family. Like most dogs, MGs also show affectionate states through facial or body language and through their wagging tails. However, due to their excitability, these dogs may not stay long on your lap! Mini goldendoodles are a fantastic family pet. Not only are they great around kids, but they are also loving and affectionate towards their family. Mini goldendoodles also love to play, which is great for rambunctious children! However, like most dogs, early socialization and obedience training are important for ensuring they behave appropriately around kids. Are Mini Goldendoodles Aggressive? These dogs also get along well with kids and other animals. While some people mistakenly think mini goldendoodles are aggressive when they nip or chew during their teething stage, this is actually part of their normal development. If this occurs, positive reinforcement and reward-based training can remedy these behaviors. Do Mini Goldendoodles Bark a Lot? They may bark at the occasional stranger or if they want your attention, but generally, these dogs are not known for their vocality. Are Mini Goldendoodles Intelligent? Mini goldendoodles are bred from two very intelligent breeds — poodles and golden retrievers. Therefore, this hybrid breed takes on the smarts of both genetic counterparts. The intelligence of mini goldendoodles make them fun to be around; however, beware that they can get into mischief due to their smarts! Keeping their minds stimulated with treat puzzles can be good ways to curb this behavior. Are Mini Goldendoodles Easy to Train? Because mini goldendoodles are intelligent and eager to please, they are also easy to train. The only thing to be mindful of is that their playful energy can create short attention spans; therefore, keep training sessions short rather than long and drawn out. Like most dogs, a combination of positive reinforcement and reward-based training will go a long way. Are Mini Goldendoodles Energetic? Mini goldendoodles have plenty of energy! Regular walks each day mixed with playtime should be enough to drain their energy. One way to think about this breed is that they enjoy short bursts of energy rather than long marathon sessions. Due to their smaller size, mini goldendoodles make great apartment dogs. These dogs also shed very little and are fairly quiet when it comes to barking. Combined with their even temperaments, these dogs are good apartment dwellers. Are Mini Goldendoodles Good Watchdogs? These dogs are more likely to befriend an intruder than to attack one! Mini goldendoodles make fantastic therapy dogs because they are soft, affectionate, and intelligent. However, they are only suited to work as therapy or emotional service animals because they are on the smaller side. Individuals looking for service dogs or therapy dogs who require stronger, sturdier animals for physical support or guidance, for instance, may want a bigger breed like a large standard goldendoodle. How to Care for a Mini Goldendoodle? Mini goldendoodles are fairly easy to care for. When it comes to exercise, make sure they get at least 20 to 30 minutes each day. Therefore, long hours alone or stuck in a kennel are not good for this breed as they can develop separation anxiety. The best way to care for a mini goldendoodle is to keep them active and include them in family activities. While mini goldendoodles only shed lightly and sometimes not at all , there is some grooming required to keep their coat healthy. As an adult, mini goldendoodles should be brushed about once a week, but this also depends on how often you get their hair trimmed. In terms of bathing, these dogs only need the occasional bath. You should also trim their nails once or twice per month unless your dog is active and wearing them down naturally. Lastly, because mini goldendoodles have floppy ears, check these regularly for redness, discharge, or odors, which could be a sign of infection. Do Mini Goldendoodles Shed? Poodle breeds hardly shed, but golden retrievers do, so the shed level of your mini goldendoodle will depend on which genetic traits they take on. Generally, though, your MG will be a low to non-shedder. What Should a Mini Goldendoodle Eat? Like all dogs, mini goldendoodles require a high-nutrient diet that has a good balance of protein, fats, and carbohydrates. This could include a mix of high-quality kibble, dehydrated dog food, or fresh food. Aim for around 2 cups of food per day; this may need adjusting depending on the size and activity level of your dog. Mini goldendoodles are prone to a number of genetic diseases outlined below which come from the poodle and the golden retriever side. However, not all MGs will develop these conditions, and some are treatable with medication, supplements, and diet. Frequent visits to your vet and giving your dog joint supplements like glucosamine and omega-3 oils can prevent future pain. Patella luxation: abnormal formations of the joints, also resulting in pain when walking. Progressive retinal atrophy: golden retrievers are prone to PRA, which involves a gradual deterioration of the retina in the eye, which can cause night blindness and loss of daytime vision. Since this is an inheritable condition, the best prevention is to visit your vet regularly. See your vet for more info. Mini goldendoodles live for around 10 to 15 years. GoldenDoodle Breed Standard Knowing the Goldendoodle Breed Standard before searching for a mini Goldendoodle breeder is essential in ensuring that your new puppy is being bred ethically and correctly. Breeders who follow this standard are reputable and can be found on the GANA website. The standard ensures that every Goldendoodle being bred is healthy and suitable for the next generation of mini Goldendoodles. The standard includes several requirements such as general appearance, size, portion, and substance range, temperament, and overall health measures. Ensuring each dog bred meets these criteria is crucial in breeding healthy mini Goldendoodles that are made for being the perfect companion. Generations Understanding the Goldendoodle generations can assist in your search for your mini Goldendoodle. As mentioned before, the miniature Goldendoodle is a miniature Poodle crossed with a Golden Retriever. Multigen mini Goldendoodles are also possible. This is a cross between two mini Goldendoodle dogs. These multigen Goldendoodles are the most likely to be hypo-allergenic as long as they have two furnishing genes regardless of coat type. Knowing the generation information can be incredibly helpful in understanding how your mini Goldendoodle was bred, what type of parents it may have, and how that information can impact your miniature Goldendoodle. Coat Colors Like other dog breeds, the miniature Goldendoodle comes in many colors. The color and genes of the parents play a large role in the color of the mini Goldendoodle puppy. There is a wide variety of colors, shades, and patterns that a mini Goldendoodle can have. Tuxedos are those that have white chests, white paws, and a white blaze on the face. Mini Goldendoodles can also be Merle, Phantom, or even tri colored. These differences create a sense of uniqueness in every puppy that excite mini Goldendoodle lovers. Coat types Mini Goldendoodles come in many different coat types. Every mini Goldendoodle puppy comes with different genetics including coat type and length. These Goldendoodles can have a straight, curly, or wavy coat depending on their KRT71 gene. These characteristics can be predicted by experienced breeders. Another characteristic of mini goldendoodles that may be most noticeable are their furnishings. Furnishings are the facial hair of the face. Some mini Goldendoodles will have furnishings while others have an open face that consists of shorter facial hair. These particular Goldendoodles will have a considerably higher shedding rate. Reputable breeders are now able to produce litters that have predictable coat traits with careful breeding and DNA research. Mini Goldendoodles are smaller than the typical, standard size Goldendoodles. Mini Goldendoodles range from being over 14 inches tall but under 17 inches at the withers. Weights can fluctuate based on parents and breed but height plays a large, determining factor in the adult weight of the mini Goldendoodle. Hence, the estimated weight of the puppy is an educated guess by the breeder. But, with health and DNA testing and experience, final size should minimally stray from initial calculations. Mini Goldendoodles are known for being incredibly smart family dogs. They are teachable, highly intelligent, and known for following commands. In many testimonials, families will brag on their mini Goldendoodles for being quick learners and intuitive. They are willing to learn new behaviors with positive reinforcement and most of their training can be done at home by diligent owners. Family Dogs Mini Goldendoodles have remarkable temperaments. They are the perfect fit for families with children as they are patient and kind dogs. These puppies fit the gold standard for being loving and happy when around people. Their excitement and sweet energy are unmatched to other dog breeds as they are easy to be around and even easier to love. Because they typically weigh under 36 pounds, the need for an exorbitant amount of space is diminished. While they are not made to be exclusively inside for extended periods of time, their smaller size allows them to be comfortable in smaller spaces and suitable for apartment living. Mini Goldendoodles are often satisfied when snuggled up on the couch with their families and playing with toys inside. Activity Mini Goldendoodles are loved for their energetic and happy demeanors but their true activity levels range from dog to dog. No individual dog is the same. Hence, some Goldendoodles bark while others do not. These behaviors can be altered through training and other at-home factors. Furthermore, hyperactivity is not a mini Goldendoodle specific trait. Hyperactivity can be the outcome of several environmental factors such as lack of exercise, too much time in a crate, or stimulation by active children. Because mini Goldendoodles are generally friendly, sociable, and highly intelligent, they can easily undergo the Canine Good Citizen and Therapy Dogs International, Inc. These tests can certify suitable mini Goldendoodles as therapy dogs for family or volunteer needs. Service dog training is more extensive and typically is done by professional trainers. Because of their already sociable and kind nature, mini Goldendoodles are a great fit for these programs. Enhanced Health Mini Goldendoodles are among the dog breeds that are complemented by hybrid vigor. Hybrid vigor is a term coined for describing the enhanced health of a dog that is bred from two different, unrelated breeds. Mini Goldendoodles who are not produced from two related lines exhibit this enhancement as they are bred from two different breeds, the miniature Poodle crossed with the Golden Retriever. Our Goldendoodles are never crossed with related lines within three previous generations so the hybrid vigor is not lost when continuing to produce mini Goldendoodles. Additionally, extensive health testing and certification can ensure that this increased health is not lost. Staying Healthy As with all dog breeds, mini Goldendoodles can also have health issues. However, these health problems are not unique to mini Goldendoodles alone. All dog breeds are subject to things like hip dysplasia or eye conditions if not carefully bred. Reputable breeders always test their mini Goldendoodles before breeding for a plethora of things, including hip and elbow dysplasia, heart, and eye issues. The best way to mitigate these health concerns is by aquiring your puppy through a reputable breeder who tests for such health issues and ensures good practices. These breeders should be certified and focus on the Goldendoodle Breed Standard. Whether you take your Goldendoodle to play with other puppies or walk them regularly, consistent exercise is crucial in tiring them out. These activities are a great way for your puppy to expend energy in a way that is suitable and acceptable to your family. Additionally, family walks are a great way to spend time with your mini Goldendoodle in a healthy and fun way. Once fully vaccinated, introducing them to other puppies can be a great socialization tool, too. Crating your mini Goldendoodle Crate training is a process that is crucial to training your mini Goldendoodle. Ensuring that your new puppy is confined to a crate when unsupervised is essential in preventing accidents and teaching them that they can control the urge to eliminate. Creating and maintaining a schedule for your family is crucial for the development and training of a mini Goldendoodle. Sticking to the schedule and ensuring your puppy is socialized is especially important in the first few months of housetraining. To start, crate time should be limited to three hours before taking the puppy out to eliminate and can increase by one hour after every month of training. Non-shedding Mini Goldendoodles are also widely popular for their reduced or lack of shedding. This gene determines whether your mini Goldendoodle will be completely non-shedding or low shedding. Some reputable breeders have succeeded in creating multigenerational mini Goldendoodles that are completely non-shedding. These dogs have two copies of the furnishing genes. It was once thought that the curly coat was responsible for a puppy being non-shedding but with testing and new DNA technology, mini Goldendoodles with all coat types can be non-shedding. Having a dog that is non-shedding is favorable to families with allergies to pets and prevents copious amounts of dog hair in your home. Grooming Because of their coat type, grooming a miniature Goldendoodle is essential to its appearance and cleanliness. Mini Goldendoodles require brushing every day with a slick brush and metal comb to prevent matting of their gorgeous coats. Sticking to a schedule of brushing is essential in training your puppy that grooming is a daily routine so that it becomes easier as they grow older. Additionally, their nails should be clipped monthly; groomers typically include clipping nails as part of their services. You may bathe your mini Goldendoodle as often as needed but you must use a tearless shampoo to prevent drying out their coats. This should be accompanied by teeth brushing. Overall, mini Goldendoodles require some attention and upkeep but are no more difficult to groom than other long coated dogs! Puppy Culture is a popular program that sets the gold standard in raising properly exposed and socialized litters. Through this program, topics like early socialization, anti-aggression protocols, handling fear periods, problem prevention and more are covered. There are several stages to puppy culture which signal social progression and development in new puppies. First Steps to getting your mini Goldendoodle A quality mini Goldendoodle is bred from parents who have been thoroughly tested for healthy genes via DNA and certified free and clear of issues of the heart, eyes, hips, elbows, and patellas. Thus, mini Goldendoodles may be pricier than other breeds. However, this addition to your family is worthwhile as costly health issues down the road not only can exceed the purchase price, the avoidable suffering of the mini Goldendoodle has no price tag. Additionally, regardless of the experience of breeders, the temperament, size, and gender of each puppy cannot be determined before birth. Applications allow breeders to understand the desired traits needed by each individual family so that puppies can be matched appropriately ensuring compatibility. Buying Guide When it comes to finding the best toys for poodles, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure that you are choosing the right product for your furry friend. Here are some key features to consider when your are buying best toys for poodles Size One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a toy for your poodle is the size. You want to make sure that the toy is appropriately sized for your dog. If the toy is too small, it could pose a choking hazard, while a toy that is too large may be difficult for your poodle to play with. Look for toys that are specifically designed for small or medium-sized dogs. Material The material of the toy is also an important consideration. Look for toys made from high-quality materials, such as rubber or nylon. Avoid toys that are made from cheap, flimsy materials that can easily break or tear. Functionality Consider what your poodle likes to do when choosing a toy. Some poodles love to play fetch, while others prefer toys that they can chew on. Look for toys that are designed for the specific activities that your poodle enjoys. Interactive Features Toys with interactive features can provide great mental stimulation for your poodle. Look for toys that have hidden treats, puzzles, or other interactive elements that will keep your poodle entertained and engaged. Safety Finally, safety should always be a top priority when choosing a toy for your poodle. Avoid toys with small parts that could be swallowed or toys with sharp edges that could cause injury. Always supervise your poodle when playing with toys to ensure that they are playing safely. By considering these factors, you can choose the best toys for your poodle that will provide hours of fun and entertainment while keeping them safe and healthy. I have a miniature Poodle named Olive. The 6 Best Types of Toys for a Poodle Overview If you think of dog toys as needing to serve as tools to meet a Poodle's needs, you may be surprised at how amazingly helpful they can be. The right toys can help a great deal with everything from teething woes, to negative behavior associated with boredom. In addition, toys can serve as a method of creating a closer bond with your Poodle, encourage activity in an otherwise sedentary dog, and even boost a Poodle's brain power. Here we will take a look at the 6 types of toys every Poodle should have to meet a wide variety of canine needs. Teething begins by 3 to 4 months old and lasts until the 7 to 8 month mark. During this time, there are incredible amounts of itching and most puppies feel some level of discomfort. This causes an overwhelming need to chew to soothe those teething woes. For these reasons, one of the best things that you can do is find the right toys for your teething Poodle puppy. Qualities of effective teething toys: The oral sensations that a puppy feels can move from moment to moment. Discomfort waxes and wanes. And itching can come in waves. So, toys need to be very versatile. The best toys will have: A variety of surface textures. Cloth, rope, and hard rubber should be available to meet chewing urges at any one particular time. Rope toys are especially helpful, as the twisted strands are good 'scratchers'. Small nubs. This is of particular importance; tiny nubs work to massage gums which helps the pup feel better. A puppy needs to be able to manipulate the toy into different parts of his mouth. Proper sizing. This is most relevant to toy Poodles, since many dog teething toys are sized too big for a tiny toy's mouth. If a Poodle puppy cannot instantly find relief, he may move onto something else.Recommended teething toys: Below are our 1 most recommended toys for Poodle pups that are in the throes of teething. The first 3 are for toy Poodles, though larger options can be found for miniatures and standards. The Nylabone is just one example of great teething chews that are flavored to entice a puppy to mouth them and come in a wide range of sizes, to accommodate all Poodle varieties. If you do not see the images, try a refresh. On mobile, you may need to turn the screen horizontal to see all 4. And if this describes your Poodle, no doubt you have had a hard time finding the right toys that will stand up to aggressive chewing. A dog's urge to chew is not limited to toys; with this type of drive, nothing is off limits. If a Poodle is not happy with his toys, one of two things will happen: 1 the dog will move on to other objects in the house, which is not only destructive but also unsafe or 2 the dog will become irritable and stressed as he's unable to satisfy his urges. Qualities of the best toys for strong chewers: To meet your Poodle's needs, the goal will be to provide fun chew toys that are specifically designed to handle aggressive chewers. While no toy is literally indestructible, some come very close. The toy will need to: Be able to stand up to high bite force. Be safe - A great feature to look for is a color indicator that the toy has been chewed down too far. Some toys are guaranteed, meaning that if a color starts to show, you'll get a free replacement. Fun - If it does not have the right texture and pliability to feel good in a Poodle's mouth, it'll be of no use. Recommended toys for Poodles that are super aggressive chewers: For this, both Kongs and Doughnuts are the two best options, with Kongs being the best for toy Poodles images are below. Kongs are great because they come in a wide range of sizes that will be appropriate for toys, minis, and standards. These are color coded, with pink and blue for puppies, red for 'normal' adult chewers, and black is reserved for the strongest chewers. In other words, a puppy would never be able to bite down on a black Kong dog toy and an aggressive chewer could tear up a pink one. The 'classic' Kong is designed to be filled with treats or kibble, which draws a dog to it and encourages him to stay focused. If your Poodle likes to chew, but has not shown a history of shredding toys to bits, you may find that the Kong 'minimally stuffed' chew toys are well received. These are also great because they come in all sizes from small to large. Goughnuts are colored coded as well, with yellow, orange, and green for strong chewers PSI and black reserved for professional grinders at a whopping PSI. What is great about these is that they are guaranteed. Each has red in the middle. If you see even a tiny spot of red, you may return the toy for just the cost of shipping out a new one. There are 3 sizes as well; but these will be a bit too large for most toy Poodles. Toys are shown below. And in this sense, thinking of toys as 'stay busy' tools can make a huge difference in your Poodle's happiness level. When a puppy or dog is just sitting around without anything to do, he will reach a limit where boredom turns into frustration. And where monotony turns into depression. If your Poodle has been too bored, you may not even realize it until you hand over a super-fun, interactive toy and see him perk up. Alternatively, some Poodles are very expressive about how they feel. It must be noted that regular exercise plays a role in this as well. If your Poodle is not taken out twice per day for at least minute sessions, even the best of toys may not fix his woes. So, a good balance of getting outside for walks and offering the right toys during down-time is the best fix. Qualities of the best toys to fix boredom and keep a Poodle occupied: You'll want toys that will be perfect for both when a Poodle is home alone and also when you are home but cannot interact with your Poodle at the moment. These toys should: Allow a Poodle to play fully independently; you will not need to do anything else other than point out the toy if you are there. Call out to the puppy or dog. A huge aspect is that the toy interacts with the dog. In this way, playing is a two-way street. The dog noses the toy, the toy responds. The dog chews the toy, the toy reacts. This type of element can keep a dog busy for a long time, basically until he's completely tuckered out. Recommended 'stay busy' toys for Poodles: There ares some incredibly fun options. The Babble Balls toys are out of this world; these are super interactive toys that can keep a puppy or dog amused and busy for hours. There are 3 sizes small for toys, medium for minis, and large for standard Poodles. Also, there are two fun types. One lets out animal noises. So, as a Poodle touches the toy, engaging sounds like pigs, frogs, bears, birds, even other dogs speak to him. There are 20 different animal sounds in all. The other is just as wonderful. It lets out funny phrases such as 'Come here, puppy! There are 20 amusing, encouraging phrases in all. For both of these, the toys automatically shut off when not in use, so the batteries do not run out. The Look Who's Taking line of toys is super fun as well. There are over 15 different types of stuffed animals, and each one makes a corresponding animal noise. These are good sized quality toys that stand up to daily playing. The size of these toys range from 5" the baby chick to 7" the cow and a bunch in between. There is a parrot, frog, rooster, monkey, goat, lobster, and more. These toys are shown below. These serve two purposes in one swoop. As an added benefit, if you place your Poodle's food in this sort of toy on days that you are not home, it helps prevent bloat, a dangerous health condition fast eating is a common trigger , which is a top concern for standard Poodles and is always something to be aware of no matter what type or size dog you have. Qualities of great treat-release toys: There are a few aspects to keep in mind. For this type of toy to do its job, it should: Hold in treats enough that they are not released too easily, but at the same time allow a Poodle to smell them in order to trigger a response. Be designed to work with a variety of different dog treats so that you are not forced to purchase additional treats. Be made with safe materials. Be durable to stand up to daily use. Be easy to clean since you'll want to be able to rinse away food particles. Be sized correctly. It's not uncommon for owners of toy Poodles to have trouble finding treat dispensing toys for their tiny dogs, so for these Poodles, it must fit the needs of dogs 10 lbs. Recommended treat dispensing toys for toy, mini and standard Poodles: There are some great options for all Poodles images below. Busy Buddy makes two treat release toys. The barnacle toy is perfect for toy Poodles, even puppies. It is composed of 3 tiny separate spheres, so toy Poodle can easily mouth onto one of them at a time. If you like the looks of this one, but don't have a toy Poodle, no worries. The other type is the twist sphere, which is adjustable, so you can control how easy or hard it is for your Poodle to get to the treats. This comes in small for dogs 8 to 20 lbs. The IQ Treat Ball is a great toy for toy Poodles on the larger end, minis and standards; this is available in both 3 and 4 inch diameters. It's a neat little sphere that is adjustable and releases food as it's nudged which encourages a dog to move. The Bob-A-Lot is a good-sized toy that is best suited for mini and standard Poodles. This has a large chamber that holds a full meal, and its bright color and wobbly movements make eating fun. Distress and even panicking when owners are away is referred to as separation anxiety, and this is not uncommon with dogs. In fact, it may be even more so with breeds like the Poodle due to their instinctive sensitivity and close human bonding. So, while all toys are important in their own way, perhaps the one type that can make the most dramatic impact on a Poodle is a companion toy. These will mimic a living creature to become an instant friend. With this, a dog is no longer alone. In addition, it would be remiss to not mention webcam devices that allow you to interact with your Poodle when you're not there. These are quite amazing, though are not fitting for those on a tight budget. Qualities of best companion toys: There's no competition here and there's no comparing. The very best ones are Smart Pets; these are good-sized quality stuffed animals that emit a rhythmic, soothing heartbeat. This alone instantly swoops away heavy feelings of isolation. In addition, is an option to send out a comforting warmth. This is as close as you can get to giving your Poodle a companion without obtaining another dog, and these are just marvelous. Qualities of the best pet webcams: Not very long ago, there were some sparse choices for this; however, the features where quite limited. Now, there's some truly amazing devices. While these can be a bit pricey, if you really want to go all out and come the absolute closest you can to being with your Poodle when you're not with him, the webcam will: Have two-way audio so that you can both speak to your Poodle and hear any barking in response. Have a wide-angle view and night vision, so that you can clearly see your puppy or dog at all times and under any sort of lighting though it is always recommended to keep lights on for a dog that's home alone. Easily sync to your smartphone Hold a good number of treats, so that the interaction can be frequent and extended. Toss treats out with a tap on your phone, and at a good distance to make it clear that you're playing with your Poodle. Our 1 recommend companion toys and a super-neat interactive webcam are below. If you don't see the images, try a refresh. On mobile, you may need to turn your screen horizontal to see all 4. It's what they live for. So, no matter how busy the day may get, the best thing you can do for your Poodle is to make time each day to play. It can be as little as 15 minutes, and it will mean the world. And do not discount older adults and even seniors. The need to hold onto bonds is stronger than ever. However, it's not uncommon for a Poodle to need something colorful and interesting to get really involved with a game of fetch. You'll want it to be durable and importantly the right size so that your Poodle can easily mouth it. Another option that is great to play on rainy days are puzzle games. With this, you work together as a teacher and student. You'll teach your Poodle how to nose levers and paw buttons to find hidden treats. There is something to be said about the Poodle ranking 2 in intelligence ; this is indeed a super smart breed. However, dogs are as smart as opportunity allows. For these, you'll want to pay attention to the level typically 1,2 and 3 or beginner, intermediate, and advanced so that the puzzle is doable. Recommended super-fun fetch toys and a fun puzzle game are below this one is level 2, but there are lots of options. All rights reserved. What is a small dog toy and does your pup need one? At first, this might not seem like a compelling reason to buy one, until you consider this: Most dog products are made for medium to large-sized dogs. And because of this, small breeds like Shih Tzus and Pugs need their own special dog toys. A German Shepherd, for example, is basically a fur-covered ball of muscle. Compare this with your Chihuahua. Yep, two fingers are all you need to out-muscle these tiny pups. This is important to consider as some toys, especially hard-rubber chew toys designed for aggressive chewers, are surprisingly heavy. In fact, the heaviest dog toy we reviewed weighs a whopping 2 pounds. Far too heavy for a small dog to lift. The size of the toy also makes carrying it difficult. See that couch in your living room? We both know that your mini pup loves to climb up. Like Simba from the Lion King, perched atop pride rock, your dog has an amazing view of the entire room — much better than the sight of your ankles while he is down on the floor. What better place to play with your favorite dog toy? To you and me, sitting on a couch is simple. Small dogs have small mouths. It is for this reason that any toy you buy your dog should be small enough to carry easily. Dragging that oversized toy around your home is going to get old, and your tiny pup will quickly look for something more fun to do. And, it goes without saying that the toy you give to your pocket-sized pup needs to be durable. Toy Chihuahuas have small-dog syndrome. I am convinced that if Chihuahuas were the same size as a large dog, they would be the most aggressive dog on Earth. Those tiny jaws are capable of dishing out some serious damage. Plush toys, in particular, are easily shredded by the sharp teeth of small dogs. In fact, any toy that breaks is particularly dangerous to small breeds. You see… Small dogs also have small mouths and airways. A small piece of rubber or torn fabric from a broken toy can easily become a choking hazard. As always, if you notice that your pocket-sized pup has broken a toy, dispose of it immediately. Small dog toys are designed to address all these issues. Safe, light-weight and easy-to-carry, these toys are the perfect present for the miniature pooch in your life. Best toys for small dogs It might surprise you to learn that there are hundreds of small dog toys available to choose from. While some are amazing, others are downright terrible. Today, I share the best of the best. The small dog toys that outclassed all others. It was tough, but we narrowed the winners down to just 6 toys — each unique in their own way. Then why not give BarkBox a try? Have some lingering questions on how to find the best toys for medium dogs? Side note: I do not recommend getting rope toys to play tug-o-war with your dog. In my opinion, they are quite dangerous for two reasons. First, they tend to fray easily, leaving behind strands of string that might cause digestive obstruction in your dog if swallowed. Bottom line? Ready now? Endorsed by veterinarians globally, serving as a secure plaything for active dogs. Its ability to keep their dog busy and anxiety-free, without any choking hazards, makes it a must-have. Another reviewer, owning a mini Aussie doodle, praised its endless chewing appeal. Promotes positive play habits, reduces anxiety, and redirects destructive behavior. It makes for a super enjoyable and stimulating play time for intelligent and playful dogs! Small breed owners appreciate its suitability for their pups, and its versatile design with rounded plastic corners ensures safety during play. Many users also appreciate the option to freeze treats inside the toy and its easy-to-open lids. However, it may not be the best choice for heavy chewers. Overall, this toy presents a fun and mentally engaging option for dogs, especially those of smaller breeds. Classic Dog Ball Launcher Upgrade the game of fetch with an interactive dog toy that enhances throwing speed and distance effortlessly. Designed to extend reach and keep hands slobber-free while reducing bending over to pick up muddy balls. Compatible with 2. This toy by ChuckIt has received lots of positive reviews from users on the internet. One user, initially skeptical, discovered the value of the product for their ball-obsessed lab. They invested in multiple ChuckIts and found it helped maintain their arm strength during playtime. While some experienced minor issues with slobbery balls sticking inside the cup, it was easily avoidable by removing and replacing the ball. The Chuckit itself remained durable, and users found cost-effective alternatives by using standard tennis balls. This recyclable puppy chew toy also includes a manufacturer Love It Guarantee against damage. Easily clean this dog tug toy for chase and fetch games by adding it to the top rack of your dishwasher. The Zogoflex from West Paws has garnered positive reviews from more than 5, satisfied dog owners on the internet and I personally own one too. For high-energy pups keen on chewing, fetching, and tug-o-war, this toy comes highly recommended. Even for tough chewers like Labradors, the toy impressively withstands their play, making it a worthwhile investment. Though not the cheapest option but still very reasonable! Each unstuffed toy has 3 independent squeaker zones for enhanced entertainment for small and medium dogs. Soft and durable puppy toys, machine washable for easy cleaning, ensuring longevity and fluffiness. In this pack, you will find a set of three squeaky animals. For less squeak-focused dogs, it provides enjoyment, and the lack of internal fluff prevents mess. However, some users found the squeakers not durable enough, losing their sound after moderate usage. Aggressive chewers, quickly destroyed the toy, ripping open the head and potentially posing a risk if the squeaker is swallowed. While some dogs may enjoy these toys, they are not suitable for aggressive chewers or those who prioritize squeaking ability. Lightweight, durable, weather, and water-resistant for long-lasting performance. Ideal for medium and large breeds, measuring 12 inches long. Ensured safety with rigorous testing for endless family fun. In my experience, this toy has a number of uses, for example as a tug-o-war toy or for a game of fetch. However, I find that it is most useful when used in the pool. Boxer owners found it to be one of the best toys, standing the test of time even during tugging and chewing sessions. However, for other dogs like a large retriever, it remains durable, perfect for fetch and retrieve games with excellent flotation. Overall, this toy showcases durability and versatility, catering to different playstyles and breeds. Made from durable nylon and heavy-duty rubber to withstand strong chewers. Interactive toy to cure boredom, promoting long-lasting play and calming anxiety for dogs over 6 months old. This particular toy features rotating soft brushes and treat rings, and has garnered mixed but generally positive reviews from internet users. While some dogs tend to destroy it quickly, its effectiveness when new keeps users repurchasing it. Take note though, it requires supervision, as dogs may dismantle it, and there are concerns about choking hazards and cracked plastic pieces. For some dogs, the toy provides extended playtime, with treats keeping them occupied for at least half an hour. I think this will be super beneficial for poodle owners whose dogs finish treats too quickly. Perfect for beginners, helping dogs learn tricks, commands, and strengthening the bond. Includes 1 square collapsible tunnel, 4 weave poles, and an adjustable jump, offering multiple ways to play. Convenient and portable with a lightweight set and a storage bag for easy home use. I love this kit! Be aware though, that the kit is made up of a few different parts which you have to purchase separately. The puppy gets particularly obsessed and even whines if she seesit being kept away. The toy has proven to be durable and has a good length, allowing an owner to use it even while standing on the couch. Soft material designed for teething puppies. Textured chew toy with bristles for teeth cleaning and plaque prevention. Features delicious bacon flavor loved by dogs. A few of the stories that really struck me was a week-old puppy that took a liking to these chew toys, keeping him engaged and relieved teething discomfort. The toys prevented destructive behavior and proved effective for the teething phase. One owner liked it so much that he repurchased it multiple times for their now 2-year-old pup, who still loves the toy. While it eventually breaks down with heavy use, the toy has been durable for a few months with occasional chewing. Putting it in the freezer also worked well for some dogs, soothing their gums during teething. One of the top additions if you are a puppy owner, in my opinion. Eases anxiety during transitions and stressful events like fireworks and thunderstorms. Easy to use, made from certified safe and durable fabric, and machine washable heartbeat and heat pad removable. This has got to be one of the most highly-rated cuddling toys for dogs, whether they are adults or puppies. Just go read the reviews online! And I love it for many reasons. For new puppy owners, it proved beneficial in comforting their pups during crate training, helping them sleep through the night. It is also super durable. Why are Play and Toys Important to Poodles? Provide physical exercise Play and toys are important to poodles since they serve as the gateway for these dogs to engage in physical exercise. The time your dog spends playing with its toys keeps them moving which exercises and stretches their muscles. The exercise also helps them maintain a healthy weight, and it could even boost their cardiovascular health! Help stimulate the mind We all know that Poodles are smart dogs, constantly out and about thinking of what better to do during their free time. Letting your poodle play with toys will surely keep their intelligent minds busy. If you can see your poodle behaving bothered and looking bored, try giving him an interactive puzzle toy for dogs. Boost social skills Play and toys let poodles interact with their dog owners. Often, poodles will bring toys to their owners as a way of engaging in play. This simple act also makes poodles friendlier and more playful, which makes them even more adorable! There are teething toys out there that are even recommended by vets, especially if the poodle is still a teething puppy. Playing with chew toys and teething toys will also let your poodle remove plaque and tartar in his mouth on his own. No more constant messy toothbrushing! Hence when they get bored or anxious, they typically resort to destructive behavior. But with toys available for poodles to play with their boredom, anxiety, or stress can easily be handled. Yes, Poodles do need a wide variety of toys. You see, there are some poodles, especially the young ones, who need teething toys to alleviate their teething throes. Factors in Choosing Poodle Toys Size appropriate Poodles come in three sizes; standard, miniature, and toy poodle. Chew resistant Poodles are quite the chewers, I should say. Chew-resistant toys are widely available in pet stores and even in vet clinics. They are safer since no parts will be chewed off and swallowed by your dog. Many reputable manufacturers will indicate the material they use, especially pet-safe ones. Interactive and mental stimulation It pays to consider if a toy can provide mental challenges and games that are interactive yet fun to play. When you do so, you give them the opportunity to stimulate their minds and keep them busy for hours. Products that are proven to be durable can save you more than just a few dollars, but also the potential for loose parts to come off and pose a swallowing threat. No small parts This is really important to me — making sure that the toys for poodles have no small parts. Small parts can be torn off by your poodle, which it might accidentally swallow and choke on. Budget Having a dog can surely add a huge expense to your budget, and buying toys that are way too expensive is unwise especially if your dog will only play with them a few times. That said, I would prioritize safety and quality over anything else, and if money is indeed an issue, I rather wait to get a better one. However, some toys are durable enough to last a long time before getting destroyed. How many toys should I provide for my poodle? As a general guideline, I recommend having a variety of toys to keep your poodle mentally and physically stimulated. Start with toys and observe which types of toys your poodle enjoys the most. Rotate them regularly to keep them interesting and prevent boredom. Are some materials dangerous for my poodle? Yes, there are materials that are dangerous for your poodle, such as PVC and lead, both of which are toxic to dogs when exposed too often. Choose a reputable retailer and exercise extreme caution if you DIY your own dog toy. Why do poodles destroy their toys? Standard poodles typically destroy their toys because of their natural prey drive. But miniature and toy poodles usually destroy their dogs just out of boredom or anxiety. Regular brushing and visits to the vet are still needed. Toys are a great way to stimulate and encourage your poodle. It is essential to find the best toy for their stage of life. Ideally, one that they will enjoy and will help keep them active. Even though Poodles are associated with France, poodles were originally a duck hunter dog in Germany. Hunters wanted a dog that could swim and move well in the water. That is why poodles have their famous haircuts. They wanted them to keep their fur around their midsection for warmth but shave parts of the neck, legs, and tail to allow them to move better in the water. Poodles are known to be late bloomers, though, when it comes to teething. Teething could last longer than the eight-month mark. It is important to be patient with your teething poodle, and chew toys are a great help in this stage. Some qualities to look for in a teething toy for a poodle puppy include: Several types of surfaces for the teeth to experience. Knobs, grooves, ropes, and different materials can help get just the right stop when it comes to teething. A temperature element can be soothing. Freeze toys can be wet or cold can help your teething puppy find relief. Make sure the Teething Toy is the correct size. You want the toy to be big enough that it will be safe to chew on but not too big where your puppy will struggle to use it. The following two puppy teething toys are great options for your poodle puppy to have fun and find some comfort for their sore gums. Nylabone Puppy Starter Packs Puppy Chew Toys This pack of chew toys is great for a poodle puppy because it has a toy for different teething stages and comes with a healthy treat. The toys are durable and have a great flavor your dog will love. The different ribbons and elements can also entertain your poodle as they play. However, it can be impossible to be engaging with your pet at all times. Sometimes you have to leave for work or errands, and your poodle is left to entertain themselves. If poodles are left too often on their own without any motivation to be active, they can become bored. Boredom can lead to depression in dogs. Toys can be a great help to keep your poodle entertained when you are not home or able to play with them. Make sure these toys are simple enough that they can be figured out by the dog on its own. The Babble Ball can provide hours of play for your dog to keep them entertained. It will also turn itself off when your dog has left it alone. It comes with over 20 sounds so that your poodle will not get bored. The more they interact with the toy, the more it will talk back to them. A more interactive approach with the dog owners while they are left alone might be helpful to stop some more destructive behaviors. This pet camera has 2-way audio so you can talk with and comfort your poodle while you are not there. It will alert you when your dog is barking. Separation Anxiety in Poodles Poodles can experience anxiety if they are left alone for just one hour or all day. There are some signs to look for in your poodle to determine if they have separation anxiety. This can happen in any age of your poodle, sometimes puppies will outgrow this phase, but it can also be a problem among older poodles. Signs of separation anxiety include: Barking continually Destroying things around the house Depression Acting out or out of control when you are leaving the house Extreme excitement when you return Increased number of bathroom accidents Along with making sure your poodles have plenty of toys to keep them active while you are gone, here are other ways to help them with their separation anxiety. Leaving the television or radio on to something calming is a good idea. Poodles also like to watch the things that are going on around them, setting up an area for them by a large window or screen door can be helpful. Always make sure to leave a light on or allow or lots of natural light. A dark house can make your poodle feel lonelier. As mentioned earlier, many times, when dogs are bored, they often tend to chew more. Some tips to encourage approved chewing include. Redirect their chewing to a new toy. Poodles love new and exciting things, have two groups of toys, and only keep one group out at a time. Once you notice your dog getting bored with those toys, swap them for the other group. Keep things exciting. If your poodle is not interested in playing, try making a game. Poodles love social interaction. Making it a contest to find their chew toy might get them more excited about their chew toys. Let them not what things are not acceptable to be chewed. If your poodle continues to chew on non-chew toys like furniture, you can spray those things with a chew-deterrent spray. Here are some great durable chew toys to help your poodle redirect their chewing: 1. With three different toys, you can give your poodle a variety and switch things up to combat boredom. The different textures, shapes, and flavors will help keep your poodle entertained and chewing on these for hours. It has different textures, the rope, knobs, and tube center to keep your poodle engaged. It is durable and safe to chew. It can also be used as a training or fetch toy. Having plenty of durable chew toys can also help to combat other negative behavior your poodle might be displaying. Poodles are known to be friendly, well-tempered dogs, but like any breed, they can begin to develop some more negative behaviors. It is important to recognize these behaviors and redirect them into positive behaviors. Most Common Behavioral Problems Among Poodles Hyperactivity— It is normal for poodle puppies to be hyper, and they usually grow out of this in the first year or two. If this behavior in your poodle continues, make sure you are providing them plenty of exercise. If they feel like you are angry or frustrated, they might act out in a more hyper mood. Try to remain calm around your poodle to help them emulate your calm spirit. Too clingy- Make sure your poodle is allowed to explore all approved areas of your house, this way, they know where they can most comfortable. Introducing your poodle to new environments and situations will help them feel more comfortable in different circumstances. Always make sure you are giving your poodle the attention they need. Quality time throughout the day with their owner will allow your poodle to feel safe and secure when they are left alone. Nipping- Poodles are not naturally aggressive, and all dogs nip a little in the puppy phase as they learn to play. If this action continues into adulthood, it is vital to train and teach your poodle that this behavior is not okay. Poodles respond best to positive encouragement. Marking territory If your poodle is marking their territory, they might be trying to assert their dominance in the household, leave a mating signal, be having a response to visitors, or it might even be a response to a new family member. It is crucial in this situation to establish yourself as the head of the family with your poodle. Let them know that you are the leader. You can do this by having them sit first before you give them their food or treats. Having them sit before you enter or leave a room is also helpful in letting them know you are in charge. Another way to help them stop marking is to get them spayed or neutered. It would help if you also cleaned your home with an enzyme cleaner. Soap and water will not get rid of the smell entirely and your poodle will continue to mark when they smell it. Growling- growling is different from barking and is something an owner needs to be aware of right away. Finding the reason for the growling is important—is your poodle in pain, scared, marking their territory, or being aggressive? It is important to identify the trigger so you can help change the situation. If your poodle has begun to grow aggressively, proper training right away is vital to stop the behavior before your poodle thinks that it is acceptable to behave like that. Jumping- It is common for poodles to jump up when they are saying hello or excited to see someone. If you have a bigger poodle, this could potentially cause a problem or even frighten your guests. It is also important to make sure you are helping your poodle release their extra energy in other ways, like walks throughout the day. Disobedience- Poodles are a highly intelligent breed. They are great problem solvers and good at learning commands. Poodle owners must train their poodles with commands and rules. If you find that your poodle is continually disobeying you, it is important to understand what might be triggering them. Poodles are emotional dogs, they might be frightened or lonely, and that could be causing some of their disobedience. Understanding why they might be disobeying will help you find the right steps to take to get them back on track. Poodle Play Together Toys Dogs, especially poodles, love human interaction and contact. Poodles are athletic and smart dogs and can be easily trained. Finding a good toy that will help you interact with your poodle is a great way to show them your love and affection. It is best to find a durable toy that is easy for them to fit in their mouth when looking for a toy to play with your poodle. Tug a war is always a favorite game among poodles. These toys are strong and durable, and your poodle will love playing a game of fetch or tug of war with one of these many shapes. Poodles and Exercise I mentioned many times how much energy poodles have and the importance they stay active. There are many other reasons for proper exercise other than just behavioral benefits. Exercise can help lengthen your poodles life-span and combat many other health problems they might experience. Making sure your poodle exercises for the correct amount of time, on a daily bases, and at the right level can have the following benefits. Digestion help- prevents constipation and helps with regular bowel movements Increase of muscle tone which can prevent injuries Increase of blood circulation which helps combat cardiovascular disease Decrease the occurrence of UTI because it promotes healthy urination Slows down the development of arthritis Playing fetch is an excellent exercise to release quick amounts of energy, but regular walks with your poodle are the most beneficial type of activity for this bread of dog. Here is why: Walking is low impact and easy on their joints and muscles. All you need is a leash and harness. Puppy Poodles-The The duration of your walks or the amount of time you exercise your poodle depends on its size and type. For toy and miniature poodles, it is important not to over-exercise them as puppies. This can affect bone growth. Keeping walks shorter and at a slower pace for these small puppies is important Adults Poodles-As your poodle reaches adulthood, you can increase your walk time and pace. Most adult poodles need about 60 minutes of walk time a day, and it is best if this is done in two 30 minute sessions or three 20 minute ones. Senior Poodles-Even as your poodle reaches his or her senior years, it is vital to keep up their walking routine. Fresh air is known to help their moods. Just make sure to decrease the duration and pace of your walks. Walking Poodles in Different Weather Conditions Whether it is hot or cold outside, weather can affect your desire or ability to walk your poodle. Try morning and cooler evening walks. Always bring water and take a water break in the shade. Protect their nose with sunscreen. In the summer, swimming is another excellent exercise for your poodle. They are great swimmers, and it is an excellent low-impact activity. Make sure you wash their coat off with shampoo afterward, and if you are in an area with deeper water, a doggie life vest is always a safe option. Cold Weather Again, protect those paws. Paw wax or no-slip paw show to keep those paws warm Dress you and your poodle appropriately. A vest or sweater can help keep your poodle warm during those colder winter walks. Protect their noses from getting chapped with a nose butter. If it is just too cold to go outside, make sure to play and give your poodle plenty of playtime in the house. Playing fetch and letting them run a little more in the house will help them get out their energy. Best Treat Toys for Poodles Poodles love treats, and treats can be a useful training tool. They can also be a motivator to play and help keep your poodle active. Some qualities of a good treat toy include: Capacity-It can hold a good amount of treats. Intelligent Sweet Because Dobermans and Poodles have such wildly different temperaments, if you want to adopt one, you should find out as much as you can about the pup in question. This is one of the big advantages of adopting from a rescue; the rescue coordinators and foster pet parents will have been working with the Doberdoodle and will know more about how they react to different situations. Some of the puppies were good with other dogs; others were shy. These dogs can be amazing companions, but you do have to socialize them a lot as puppies to help them be comfortable around other animals. Doberdoodle Size Doberdoodle size can vary widely depending on the size of the Poodle parent. Doberdoodles are usually between 60 and 80 pounds, although 90 pounds or more is possible. They are usually about inches tall at the shoulder. However, even crossbreeds have health conditions to look out for. Here are some of the most common health concerns that affect Poodles and Dobermans. Do you want to make a Doberdoodle your next best friend? The best place to find one of these crossbreeds is actually going to be a Doberman rescue! Doodle and Poodle rescues may take them in as well, but because there are a lot more Doodles than Dobermans out there, rescues and fosters that focus on Dobermans are likely to be more knowledgeable about these dogs. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions from dog lovers about them! How big does a Doberdoodle get? Doberdoodles can get fairly large. Dobermans are between 24 and 28 inches tall at the shoulder. Males should weigh between 75 and pounds, while females should weigh between 60 and 90 pounds. Standard Poodles are slightly smaller than Dobermans. Fully grown males weigh between 60 and 70 pounds, while fully grown females weigh 40 to 50 pounds. Both males and females should be at least 15 inches tall at the shoulder. Doberdoodles with Standard Poodle parentage will fall somewhere in this range. Are Doberdoodles hypoallergenic? No dog is truly hypoallergenic. Poodle dander, like Poodle hair, gets trapped in the tight curl of their coat, so Poodles may be less likely to trigger dog allergies. However, this is not necessarily the case for Doberdoodles. What 2 dogs make a Doberdoodle? The Doberdoodle is a cross between the Doberman Pinscher and the Poodle. Do Doberman Poodle mixes shed? All dogs shed, even purebred Poodles. This is why you need to frequently brush dogs with this coat texture; otherwise, their hair forms mats. Some Doberdoodles have this curly coat; others do not. What is the best food for a Doberdoodle? Doberdoodles are large, energetic, athletic dogs, and they need good nutrition that can support them. As a large breed, raw food is a great choice. Dog owners are attracted to its short coat and floppy ears. Dog owners could get a Doberdoodle puppy that favors the appearance or personality of either parent. Doberman genes allow for the coat to be smooth medium-length coat. While the standard Poodle genes will pass down a curly and long coat. The coat variations of the Doberman Poodle mix can be black, tan, red, grey, or a combination of those colors. Each dog is different, however most have either a tan, black or brown muzzle. One feature of both the Doberman parent and Poodle parent is a long neck. The Doberdoodle could have a deep chest characteristic of the Poodle or the strong muscular build favoring the Doberman. The head features almond shaped eyes that can be brown or hazel with droopy ears. The parent breeds also pass down whether or not the Doberdoodle will have the smooth coat of the Doberman or a curly coat of the Poodle. Is the Doberdoodle hypoallergic? Although the Doberman Pincher is low shedding as the hair loss is minimal, it still daily loses hair and dander. This Doberman Poodle mix can be best described as a medium to large dog that has a long muzzle and floppy ears. The coat can be curly or medium long depending on the dominant genes. The brown eyes and bushy eyebrows give this dog a playful appearance. Dog owners have been attracted to this mixed breed as it is known to be courageous and confident. If left unattended for long periods of time, the puppy can develop bad habits and begin to chew on furniture and other household items. As with any dog, training is an essential part of raising a well-behaved and obedient Doberdoodle. Here are some important considerations for training a Doberdoodle. Firstly, socialization is crucial for Doberdoodles. They need to learn how to interact appropriately with other dogs and people to avoid aggression or fear-based behavior. Early socialization with positive reinforcement techniques is highly recommended to ensure that the Doberdoodle develops into a confident and friendly dog. Thirdly, leash training is essential to ensure that the Doberdoodle can be taken for walks without pulling or running away. It is also important to train them to come when called, particularly in case of emergency situations. Fourthly, crate training can be helpful in housebreaking and providing a safe and comfortable space for the Doberdoodle to retreat to when necessary. Lastly, advanced training can be beneficial for Doberdoodles that are used for activities such as therapy work, agility, or obedience competitions. Specialized training can help to develop skills specific to the activity and strengthen the bond between owner and dog. Doberdoodle Health Conditions Before bringing a dog into your life, learn about any breed specific health problems. Every dog breed is genetically predisposed to certain health issues. The Doberdoodle, a Doberman Pinscher Poodle mix, is no exception. The Doberman Pinscher is generally a healthy breed, but like all dogs, they can be prone to certain health conditions. Some common health issues that can affect Doberman Pinschers include: Dilated Cardiomyopathy DCM This is a heart condition that affects the ability of the heart muscle to pump blood that leads to eventual heart failure. Doberman Pinschers are particularly susceptible to this condition. Dogs can exhibit symptoms such as excessive panting, lethargy, and improper breathing. Dog owners might notice stiffness in the neck, uncoordinated gait, and weakness in limbs. As with all dog breeds, Poodles are susceptible to various health conditions, some of which are an inherited condition and some of which are acquired. Here are some common health conditions that Poodles may be prone to: Hip Dysplasia As mentioned, this is a genetic condition that affects the hip bones and can cause pain, limping, and arthritis. Eye Problems Poodles are prone to several eye problems, including cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, and glaucoma. Ear Infections Poodles have long, floppy ears that can trap moisture and lead to ear infections if not cleaned regularly. Skin Issues Poodles can be prone to skin allergies and skin infections, especially if they have a thick or curly coat that is not properly groomed. Gastric Dilatation Volvulus as known as Bloat This is a life-threatening condition in which the stomach fills with gas and twists, cutting off blood flow to the organs. Poodles are at increased risk for bloat due to their deep chest. Symptoms could include vomiting, visible pain, inability to burp, and restlessness. This can be life threatening if not noticed right away. Epilepsy Poodles can be prone to epilepsy, a neurological disorder that causes seizures. Training Your Doberdoodle When people decide to add a dog into their life, they should expect that it will need some form of training. Dogs need to know boundaries both in the home and outside the home. Participating in a puppy obedience class will allow your new Doberdoodle to begin learning to become a well-mannered adult dog. Doberdoodles exercise requirements are versatile as they enjoy changing things up with walks in the neighborhood, swimming, hiking, and running. As the hybrid mix of two very intelligent breeds, they like brain games and challenging dog puzzles. These dogs can be trained to participate in canine scent sports which appeals to their natural instincts. Keep in mind the Poodle parent breed was once trained to be a bird and gun dog. They respond well to obedience training, and some might enjoy retrieving. Grooming Your Doberdoodle Dog owners usually like to bath their Doberdoodle once a month to keep the skin and coat healthy. Professional dog groomers can advise on additional grooming recommendations. Brushing: Doberdoodles have a thick, wavy coat that needs to be brushed from daily to at least once a week to prevent matting and tangling. You may also need to brush them more frequently during shedding season. Two tools that work well are a wire slicker brush and a metal comb. Both parent breeds have a single coat which allows for minimal shedding. Bathing: Doberdoodles do not need to be bathed frequently, but they should be bathed every few months or when they get particularly dirty or smelly. Be sure to use a dog-specific shampoo and conditioner for curly hair. Teeth brushing: All dogs are prone to dental issues if their teeth are not properly maintained. As a large dog, there is more room to work so they can tolerate a larger brush. Ear cleaning: Doberdoodles have floppy ears that can trap moisture and debris, leading to ear infections. Their ears should be cleaned regularly with a dog-specific ear cleaner and dried thoroughly after bathing or swimming. The best cleaner is from your veterinarian. However, if you need a quick or less expensive solution, we like this one. Hair trimming: Doberdoodles may need occasional hair trimming around their face, feet, and sanitary areas. You can either do this yourself with grooming scissors or take them to a professional groomer. Owning a Doberdoodle No one is certain if the original purpose of breeding the Doberman Pincher and Standard Poodle was to make a excellent family pets that has protective instincts or if it was done unintentionally. Owning a Doberdoodle can be an excellent choice for those seeking a loyal and affectionate companion with a unique look. However, it is essential to consider the all aspects of ownership before deciding to bring one home. The cost of purchasing a Doberdoodle can vary depending on the breeder and location. Generally, breeders who specialize in Doberdoodles tend to charge more than those who breed purebred Dobermans or Poodles. Maintenance costs for a Doberdoodle can also be high. Due to their unique coat, they require regular grooming to maintain its quality and prevent matting. Grooming costs can vary, depending on the type of groomer and the frequency of grooming. Additionally, Doberdoodles require regular exercise and proper nutrition, which can add to the cost of ownership. Special training for a Doberdoodle is necessary, as they are a cross between two highly intelligent breeds. Early socialization and training can help prevent behavior problems down the road. Medical costs for a Doberdoodle can also be high. Regular check-ups, vaccinations, and preventative care can help keep medical costs down. Finding a reputable Doberdoodle breeder can also be a challenge. It is essential to do thorough research and ask for recommendations from trusted sources. Owners should also be prepared to travel to find a breeder that meets their needs. Drawbacks of owning a Doberdoodle can include their personality traits, a high energy level, which can make them unsuitable for apartment living. They can also be prone to separation anxiety, which can lead to destructive behavior. Doberdoodles require an experienced owner who is willing to devote time and attention to their training and exercise needs. Additionally, they are intelligent and trainable using positive reinforcement, making them suitable for various tasks, such as therapy or service dogs. This is a tough question to answer. The short answer is no, because there is no dog that is completely allergen free. When people are allergic to dogs, it is mostly because of the dander, or otherwise known as shedded skin cells. Every dog, even those that are fur free, will shed skin cells. That said, there are some breeds that shed dander less than others and those are considered to be hypallergenic. Furthermore, the Doberman Pinscher is not considered to be hypoallergenic. Conversely, the Poodle IS considered to be hypoallergenic. Therefore, whether your dog is going to hypoallergenic depends on which parent breed has contributed the most DNA to your dog. If you are considering getting a Doberdoodle puppy, and there are people in your home with known allergies to dogs, you may consider a different breed. Also, before you get any dog, you may test to see if you or your family members are allergic to dogs. Rehoming a dog due to allergies is stressful to the dogs and also to the family members who may have fallen in love with the dog. How much does it cost to buy a Doberdoodle? The Bottom Line on the Doberdoodle All dogs have unique personalities. This mixed breed dog is loyal and most enjoy interacting with their family members. Early socialization is very important for this mixed breed; positively expose your dog to all kinds of people, moving objects, and sounds. People that live in a small space might reconsider owning a Doberdoodle. They are a large breed dog that needs a large space, adequate exercise and mental stimulation. The Doberman Pincher is a protective dog meaning it will guard its people and other animals living in it. Your Doberdoodle does have some protective traits and may respond to real and perceived threats, this includes people and animals outside the family. Dog owners of this hybrid breed like them for their protective nature, playfulness, intelligence, which make them great family pets. Doberdoodles are a good fit for people with active lifestyles, as these dogs like both mental and physical exercise. Both parent breeds have long life spans, living an average of between years. However, this mixed breed also has some disconcerting health issues such as susceptibility to bloat and Wobbler syndrome. The lesser desirable traits include over-protectiveness of its human family, health issues, and a high barking level. A Doberdoodle that gets regular exercise will be easier to train and adapt quicker in the home. Expert dog trainers recommend asking good questions from the Doberdoodle breeders before deciding on bringing this type of dog. Find out if they specifically breed doodles and how familiar are they with the parent breeds. Breeders that practice early neuro-stimulation would be beneficial for these hybrid puppies. Exposure to numerous sights and sounds during the first two months of their life will help them adjust to their new home. They will be less likely to be frightened of storms and sounds in the neighborhood. Owning a Doberdoodle can be a rewarding experience, but it comes with its challenges and costs. Doberdoodle dog owners often research the parent breeds and are prepared to invest in this active yet protective hybrid breed. Please read our Legal Disclaimer Share it:. Their muscular build will require larger than average amounts of protein, which is best acquired from lean meats. There is protein inside commercial kibble, but it is usually derived from vegetable sources and is thus somewhat inferior. This means you should aim to give your Doodleman the best possible quality dry kibble possible, ideally supplemented with canned food or meat. This will help provide your Doodleman with additional moisture, though as with any dog, constant access to fresh, clean water is essential. Dairy products, excessive grains, and fatty meats should also be strictly avoided, as these can swiftly lead to health issues. This exercise should be regular and consistent and combine high-intensity exercise, like running, walking, and cycling, with mentally stimulating games. Without this regular physical and mental stimulation, Doodlemans can become agitated, causing them to become destructive and even aggressive. The intelligence of Poodles combined with the protective nature of Doberman breeds means that they will notice changes to their routines and can become confused and distressed when this is not adhered to. These parent breeds have a long history of specific tasks, and they will thrive when given important and specific instructions. Early obedience training is essential for Doodlemans. These dogs are in-tune with human emotions and will pick up even the most subtle shifts in energy from their owners. This means you need to be confident and display leadership with these dogs so they are fully aware of whom is in charge. That said, they are also eager-to-please animals, and this will work hugely in your favor when training them. They will benefit from plenty of praise for good work, rewards, and exciting and high-energy tasks. Any form of harsh physical correction should be strictly avoided with these dogs. Not only does this break trust between you and your Doodleman, but it can also cause aggressive behavior and make training something dreaded as opposed to enjoyed. Basic command training can begin as early as 10 weeks with these intelligent dogs. Daily brushing is needed to prevent matting and skin issues. Bathing should be kept to a minimum, and we recommend bathing only when necessary to prevent dry skin. The ears of Doodlemans should be especially paid attention to. Due to the lack of airflow on the floppy ears of Doodlemans, there is a high risk of infection, earwax buildup, and mites. They should be checked regularly for any redness or discharge, as these are early signs of infection. If they are exercised regularly and have balanced diets, they will usually live a good life with few health issues. However, there are common problems that are reported among Dobermans and Poodles that may carry over into Doodlemans. Dobermans commonly suffer from dilated cardiomyopathy, which is a swelling of the heart. Von Willebrand disease is another common hereditary disease that may be passed on to your Doodleman. Cervical vertebral instability is a common neurological disorder caused by the compression of the spine in older Dobermans. Milder conditions include hypothyroidism and bloat. One of the most common problems that affect around half of Poodles worldwide is sebaceous adenitis, which is an inflammation of the sebaceous glands. This disorder can lead to skin disease and hair loss. Neutering males and spaying females have a host of health and behavioral benefits , including the prevention of some cancers. Minor Conditions. Should a Doberman Mix take after their Doberman Pinscher parent, they will be a large, powerful, and protective dog that is affectionate with their families. They may look imposing as they grow, but they are playful, energetic dogs that can make great family pets. Doberman Pinschers are quintessential protectors. As such, they require a lot of training and socialization to become a happy, well-balanced, and well-mannered dog. A properly socialized and trained Doberman is fiercely loyal to their families and is also a loving companion with a fun personality. As long as they are properly trained and socialized, they tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and even other pets. If a Doberman Mix takes after their Doberman Pinscher parent, then you can expect a similar temperament. However, the other parent breed will likely introduce some other potential traits and quirks, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. You can also meet the mother dog in-person to get an idea of her temperament and to see the behavior she is modeling for her puppies. The breeder should be starting socialization and training. Dobermans are moderately adaptable dogs. Because of their large size and high energy, they are better suited to homes with yards where they can run. They can adapt to apartment living, but you will need to dedicate a lot of time every day to making sure they get the exercise and attention they need to be happy and healthy. Doberman Pinschers do well in most climates. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to heat. Because of their short coat, they may need to bundle up in some winter dog products to stay warm on walks during the winter. They also do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. If the other parent breed is similar in terms of adaptability, then you can expect the same from a Doberman Mix. You still want to ask the breeder about the other parent breed so you have a better idea of what mix of traits and quirks a Doberman Mix puppy could end up with. Mixed-breed dogs are sometimes healthier than purebred dogs. The other parent breed will have their own set of potential health concerns, so you want to ask the breeder about them. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to help avoid passing issues on to puppies. So, you should be planning to ask about the health and genetic history of both of the parents anyway. You can also ask about any relevant health tests or clearances that have been done. Doberman Pinschers are also one of the dog breeds at a higher risk for developing bloat and a Doberman Mix will likely have the same risk. Bloat in dogs is a serious condition that can quickly become fatal if gastric torsion occurs. Although Dobermans are highly intelligent dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please, they are also strong, powerful dogs with a strong will as well. If they are not socialized properly or well-trained, they can become unmanageable, destructive, and pushy. Because of this, a Doberman Pinscher is usually better suited to more experienced owners. Novice owners can do well with this breed, but obedience classes or enlisting the help of a professional trainer is highly recommended. The other parent breed could make a Doberman Mix easier or more difficult to train. Make sure you ask the breeder about them and then be prepared to enroll in training classes either way. A mixed-breed dog can inherit a coat similar to one of their parent breeds or a coat that is truly a mix of both. Should a Doberman Mix end up with a Doberman coat, it will be short and will shed a little year-round. A quick daily brushing and the occasional bath is enough to keep this coat healthy. Good dental care for dogs is often overlooked, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Brushing teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day helps prevent painful dental diseases later in life. A Doberman Pinscher is a high-energy dog breed that needs a lot of exercise to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime and time to run or another activity are usually enough for this dog. But, they are happy to be active with you, so they will likely be up for activity if you are. These dogs are powerful, athletic, and versatile. So, once puppies finish growing , you can try a wide variety of activities with them. You can try hiking, swimming, running, playing frisbee, training for dog sports, and more. If the other parent breed is also a high-energy dog breed, then you can expect your Doberman Mix to be a high-energy dog as well. Even if the other parent breed has a lower activity level, you will still need to be prepared for the potential of a high-energy dog. A fully-grown Doberman Pinscher is usually inches tall and weighs pounds. The other parent breed can affect this, so you want to ask the breeder about them and also pay attention to which breed is the mother. Although it is not a guarantee, you can also meet the mother dog in-person. This can give you some idea of what size to expect in a fully-grown Doberman Mix. A Doberman generally lives for years. The other parent breed may affect this slightly, but you can likely expect a similar life span in a Doberman Mix. Featured Doberman Mix Article. Their beauty, athleticism, smarts, attitude. To me it was the perfect package. So I went out looking for one. Of course, I made all the first time buyer mistakes as well. I knew nothing of reputable breeders, health testing, titles and temperment evaluations, and I bought my first female Lily out of the paper. She is not conformatally correct, but luckily she had a friendly, though shy temperament and beyond all luck, she lived until 3 months shy of 14 years old! Lily was your typical velcro dobe and was happiest when she was right next to me. In , When Lily was 5, I decided to add to my doberman family, and this time looked for a top notch breeder. Someone who was breeding for health and solid teperament, and was active in the dog world working and putting titles on their dogs. He sold me a male out of a great litter, and I named him Strider. Strider was everything you could ask for in a doberman. He was a great example of the breed both physically and mentally. He was beautiful and bomb proof and bold as brass. He was funny, full of himself, and beyond confident. Friendly with both humans and dogs, he became a certified therpay dog and went to hopspitals and old age homes regularly to visit people who wanted to spend time with a dog. I lost Strider just shy of his 7th birthday to complications of Lymphoma. He did six months of chemo and two half body radiations and was cancer free to the end. Many thanks to the team at the OVC in Guelph. He was such a good boy. After I lost Strider, I decided to persue a dream I had always had, but not been able to fulfill. To show my own doberman in the conformation ring and get a championship. With my work schedule for the past 20 years, that would have been impossible. Working on stage and only having Mondays off really does not leave you much opportunity to go to dog shows or competitions on the weekends! One of the trade offs for a life in the theatre!!! So in January , I blocked off time and bought myself a 'show dog'! I contacted Sandra Hunter of Bruda Dobermans in Chicago, and I was lucky enough to get one of the two show males she had held back. I named him Rudolph, as I got him just after Christmas, and as he is red and looks like a reindeer. Rudy was to be my first 'show' dog and boy did he teach me a thing or two about training a dog for the ring! Rudy finished his Canadian Championship owner handled in Novemeber of .Rudy is also involved in agility. The show bug caught, and I wanted a great quality bitch to show and to hopefully become my foundation bitch of my own breeding program in the future. As they say, the universe shows you the way and things happen for a reason. I was not really actively looking for said bitch, as Rudy was still young and I had things I wanted to do with him first but a casual email turned into one of the best things that could have happened! Their male special Gage, was a dog that not only was so impressive to look at but who reminded me a lot of Strider. Both American and Canadian Grand Champions and both exceptional representations of the breed. Quite the accomplishement as Gage is owner handled by Greg. So it came to be that I would get a show bitch from this fantastic breeding, and I named her Vega after the star! Vega, the brightest star in the constellation Lyra. Vega has been extensively studied by astronomers, leading it to be termed "arguably the next most important star in the sky after the Sun. Bold as brass. She is beautiful and bombproof. She's never spooked, she adjusts to new situations in seconds, and is happy and inquisitive all the time. A little Jumping bean! She was an easy dog to handle in the ring and I finished her Canadian Championship at 8 months, with a best puppy in group. She finished her American Championship with 4 Majors, 2 of which she won on the competitive Florida circuit. Fantastic support, mentorship and friendship. And that is what I intend to offer all of my own puppy buyers in the future. Support, mentorship and friendship. Please feel free to follow the NEWS section of this website to keep up to date on all of the goings on of Broadway Dobermans. What you get is an adorable puppy with wire to thick curly fur in a range of colours. The Doodleman or Doberman Poodle Mix are low-shedding mini-size guard dogs, making them one of the most popular poodle mix breeds in Australia. Let us study everything there is to know about this great hybrid dog! What is a Doodleman — Doberman Poodle Mix? They are also called Doodleman, Doberpoos, or Doberdoodles. To learn more about the Doodleman Pinscher, let us consider a few facts about the parent dog breeds. Dobermann Pinscher The Dobermann Pinscher breed is fairly new; it is not even years old and first originated in Germany. A tax collector named Herr Karl Louis Dobermann created the Dobermann Pinscher using several dog breeds, as he wanted a medium-sized guard dog that could keep his money safe! Dobermans are athletic intelligent dogs that are suited for a variety of jobs. Many Dobermans have even served in the military. Today, the breed is extensively used as a guard dog. Poodles became an official German breed in the s. They have ranked in the top ten highly desirable dog breeds in the world. Currently, they rank No. As popular as Poodles are as purebred dogs, they have also become immensely popular in the concept of designer dogs. Poodles are considered one of the best breeds to mix other dog breeds with. They have been chosen as Foundation Dogs for Doodle breeds for their intelligence, versatility, and hypoallergenic coats. They also have a longer lifespan compared to many other dog breeds. In the early s, the popularity of Doodle designer dogs skyrocketed. More and more potential dog parents wanted highly-trainable and intelligent dogs with low-shedding coats. This gave rise to mixed dog breeds like Labradoodles and Goldendoodles. One such Doodle cross is the Doodleman. It simply made sense for breeders to cross a large and loyal dog breed like the Doberman Pinscher with a smart and trainable dog breed like the Poodle. The Doodleman Pinscher is not recognised by any canine club in the world. However, some hybrid dog clubs are now emerging that are registering these hybrid dogs to keep a track of them. The Doodleman — Doberman Poodle Mix is a low-shedding and mini-size guard dog, making them a popular choice for families. We still cannot say for sure when the first Doodleman Pinscher came into this world. How Big Is a Doodleman Pinscher? Naturally, there is no standardisation in their height and weight. Your Doodleman puppy could weigh anywhere between lb. The same is the case with their coat colours. You could have a Doodleman in literally any colour you want. First-generation Doodleman dogs generally have one solid colouring and can have tan points phantom while others may have a mix of colours. The coat of your Doberdoodle will also depend on canine genetics. Some puppies might inherit a curly, water-tight coat of a Poodle while others could have the short coat of a Dobermann. Most Doodleman Pinschers are low-shedding. Most Doberman poodle mix puppies that are back-crossed to a Poodle will produce slightly more hypoallergenic and low-shedding offspring. This is due to the larger Poodle gene pool to choose from. As such, F1b Doodleman puppies Doodleman crossed with a Poodle that have a curly coat are more likely to be low-shedding like the Poodle. First-generation Doberdoodles tend to be low to medium shedding and have a wiry coat texture. Again, we have no set standards to compare and every Doodle is likely to have a unique disposition. In general, we can expect the same guardian dog tendencies that are seen in the Doberman Pinscher to appear in the Doberdoodle. These mixed dogs have inherently protective natures. They are courageous and bold. Doberman poodle mix puppies that are raised in loving, caring homes and are socialised or exposed to a variety of experiences tend to be bolder compared to puppies that are not. Well-bred Doodlemans have a stable temperament. Like their Poodle parent, they are likely to also be smart and easy to train. The Poodle genes also tone down some of the vicious aggression that Doberman Pinschers have a reputation for. Most Doodlemans could be aloof and wary of strangers. However, once they understand their owners are safe, they will warm up slightly. However, their protective nature will keep them guarded. This is the quality of a guardian dog breed. You just need to instruct your visitors to not display any intimidating body language toward your dog. This includes using their hands to pet your dog on its head or bending or lurching over it. New acquaintances need to allow your Doberdoodle to sniff them and not crowd their personal space in a threatening manner. Reputable Doberman poodle mix breeders produce puppies that are very protective of their families without showing unnecessary aggression. While this aspect of their personality has several benefits, it can sometimes become a liability. You cannot berate a dog who is performing its instinctive duty while it is growling menacingly at strangers who walk in unannounced. You cannot expect your Doodleman to know that your friends and relatives sometimes walk in without knocking! This is why your Doberdoodle will need positive training from puppyhood. Thankfully, most Doberdoodles learn quickly. Their smartness inherited from the Poodle breed is a major advantage. Doodlemans also have an independent streak. They have a mind of their own and like to use it. This is a valuable trait in police dogs and military dogs but in pets, it can be frustrating to owners. Formal life skills and obedience training is very important to curb this. Often, Doodlemans reserve this loyalty for one member of the family. That does not mean it neglects the other members — it just prefers to attach itself to the person who trains or feeds it. However, it will still make it its duty to watch over children. How Much Does a Doodleman Cost? In addition to the initial cost, you will also spend on feeding your Doodle a healthy diet, taking it to the vet for its vaccinations and routine exams, pet insurance, training, grooming etc. What to Feed a Doberman-Poodle Mix? You can also ask your breeder or vet for the right dog food recommendations. The food should contain meats as its first two ingredients. Many Doodleman owners feed a raw dog food diet to their poodle mixes. A healthy Doodleman — Doberman Poodle Mix will be a low-shedding and mini-size guard dog. Doberdoodles live on average for years and are generally healthy dogs. You can reduce the risk of these diseases in your Doodle by only buying it from a reputable breeder who conducts health screening tests on the parent dogs and only breeds the ones cleared of these genetic issues. The best poodle mix breeders use DNA testing to prevent health problems associated with breed-specific diseases and to ensure that their puppies are non-shedding and hypoallergenic. Doodleman — Doberman Poodle Mix puppies for sale and breeders The Doberdoodle is a rare designer dog breed in Australia and the Mini Doberman Poodle mix is even more so. Other popular Doberman crossbreeds include: Doberman cross labrador Doberman and goldendoodle mix Mini Doberman poodle mix Dobermann cross mini or toy poodle The Doberman poodle mix is particularly popular because of its loyal and protective temperament, low-shedding coat and slightly smaller size than a traditional Dobermann pinscher. The Golden Retriever has been an AKC-recognized breed since and was commonly used as a gun dog and for retrieving small game such as waterfowl, and for companionship. The Golden Retriever originated in the Scottish Highlands. The first Lord Tweedmouth, Dudley Majoribanks, is credited with developing the breed and keeping detailed records to create the ideal gun dog for the terrain. Great discipline and a gentle spirit make the Golden Retriever a perfect retrieval breed since the goal of this task is to bring the trophy back as undamaged as possible. Golden Retrievers first appeared in dog shows in at a British dog show. They also started appearing in the United States around the same time as they were brought across the Canadian border. They gained popularity with sport hunters and in general. Their popularity really took off in the s and they are consistently one of the most popular dog breeds. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are the epitome of friendly and make fantastic family dogs. Golden Retrievers are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. They tend to be good with kids, other dogs, other pets, and even strangers. Goldens love attention and they bond closely with their families. They are affectionate with them, and also just about everyone else. Although they do tend to get along with everyone, they love being around their favorite humans the most. They will bark to alert you and can end up barking a lot if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in homes with yards where they can run. They can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. These dogs do well in just about any climate, but are sensitive to heat. As one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they are not at all happy about being left alone for long periods of time. Although super-friendly and attention-loving, Goldens can also be sensitive to their surroundings; make sure they feel included, but have a quiet place to go if things get too noisy or overwhelming. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Golden Retriever include progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, elbow dysplasia , and hip dysplasia. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Goldens are considered one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. They are highly trainable dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please. These traits make them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. It also helps them excel at obedience competitions. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered the command, move on to something more advanced or another activity. You can also enroll in puppy training classes for some variety in training and also some socialization. Golden Retrievers have a long double coat that will shed a little year-round and will be heavier twice a year as the seasons change. Brushing a few times a week and daily brushing during seasonal shedding along with a bath as needed is usually enough for at-home care. You will want to go to the dog groomer for a professional trim a few times a year, especially as the seasons change. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Daily tooth brushing, along with cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. Golden Retrievers are one of the most active dog breeds. Daily walks plus some playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough to keep these dogs happy and healthy. But, they are high-energy dogs that will likely always be up for more activity if you are. Much like the Labrador , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They tend to start winding down a little around the age of 3 and settle into your lifestyle, but they will still be high-energy dogs that require a lot of daily activity. Goldens are known for being versatile and athletic dogs. They tend to love swimming. Once they are done growing and the vet clears them for higher-impact activities, you can try other things too. They are one of the dog breeds that make good running partners. You can also teach them how to play frisbee or play fetch. Training for dog sports is another good option. In addition to obedience, Golden Retrievers are well suited for agility, dock diving , rally, flyball, tracking, and more. Fully-grown Golden Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Golden Retrievers generally live for years on average. With their intelligence, eagerness to please, and gentle disposition, Golden Retrievers are versatile working dogs. In addition to being one of the dog breeds that make the best service dogs , Goldens can be found working as emotional support dogs, certified therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, military dogs, police dogs, animal actors, and more. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. When we were ready for a new addition to our family and saw they were having a new litter we eagerly put our name in for one. Miss London is the sweetest, smart, loving 62 pound lap dog. She just had her first birthday and if my daughter had her way we would be getting another one from them. Their pups are well socialized and London slept through the night from day one. She loves our cat and all the extended family members. She loves going to the groomers. Great temperament dogs. Miss London Boomer is practically perfect in every way. I followed Chehalem Mountain Farms Goldendoodles for at least two years before adopting from them. CMFG are dedicated to raising healthy happy pups and placing them in excellent homes. They spend a significant amount of effort and love socializing the pups. Boomer was a gem from the first moment. He is friendly and curious, but also a people pleaser and soooo easy to train. He travels well in the car. This pup is magical, and I am convinced we would not have had the same experience with another breeder. Boomer We got our girl Everest for my son as an emotional support animal. She is the sweetest dog!!! She loves playing with the boys, but is just as happy snuggling up to any of us! She is super smart too. She only had one accident in the house while potty training. She sits down and wags her tail and just waits for them to come up and give her loves. Everest What is a Goldendoodle? A goldendoodle is a golden retriever and poodle cross. Goldendoodles go by several nicknames, including: golden poos, goldie poos, or groodles. Goldendoodles combine the intuitive, people-oriented nature of retrievers and the highly-intelligent mind of poodles. They often have an allergy-friendly coat. Bringing happiness and love through puppies!! Some of my story…. I have been in love with german shepherds ever since i was 20 and got my first German shepherd dog named Elsa. I decided about 10 years ago that i wanted to start breeding. I work hard on breeding only from the best lines. I breed for health, temperament, workability, beauty, and many other things. I try to stick to long coats because those are my favorite. Our goal with our breeding program is to promote healthy, sound dogs, who are suitable for any situation and be gentle enough to able to be handled by families as well. I have a variety of drives and energies and each puppy goes thru temperament testing to make sure they go to the right homes, as well as being raised on the Puppy Culture Program. I do not promote the extreme roach back shepherds. Mine either have the proper gentle slope or a more straight old fashioned back. All my dogs are part of the family. We do not have kennels, and I will never keep my dogs in kennels. That would make them very unhappy lol. Every dog i own lives in the house with us and is part of our family. I have recently acquired a nursery shed! It was bought as a shell and I am building the whole inside into puppy rooms, and after the puppies are raised indoors in my bedroom for the first couple weeks, they are then moved out to the nursery shed! They will still be in the house all the time, but they will be in the shed and outdoors when nice for a majority. I am so excited for the addition and have been waiting a long time for it!!!! My goals for are to get ALL my dogs various titles! I implement the Puppy Culture Program into our litters! Its amazing, and so much fun! I love being able to give puppies the absolute best start in their lives which will impact their whole life! Its an amazing program! Puppies are raised for the first 2 weeks in our bedroom so we can watch over them carefully and someone is always with them during that time, and during that time we also do the Early Neurological Stimulation with them. Then we move them to their bigger whelping pens which will be the nursery shed now where we play classical music and other varieties including thunderstorm all the time except bedtime when its quiet time. They learn to use the litter boxes and play with toys. We introduce to new sounds, smells, and textures daily. They are raised in our home and underfoot most of the time, and are handled all day everyday, so they get the full family setting and used to daily family activities and noises and such. This is all a HUGE learning process for me. I do my best and try my hardest at all times. I do not claim to be perfect but I always strive for perfection. I want to produce the best quality dogs I can and I want everyone to always be happy with their lifelong companions. I may make mistakes along the way, but I will always try to fix them and do better next time and move forward and take each mistake as a learning opportunity. My goal is to provide happiness and love to everyone thru my favorite dog- the German shepherd. I also provide transport for my puppies and others as well. They change so often, I cannot give a set price at any time until its actually time to book. If transport is needed to meet you someplace or take a puppy to meet you at the airport, it is the same, 50 cents a mile round trip. I will start a list in the menu at the top, of websites, or breeder names, whom I feel are deserving of recognition. Ill try to update this list whenever I think of someone or something I may have missed! Jeska and Mambo had a successful breeding and she welcomed her puppies on June 22nd. Many of our clients provide pictures of their puppies as they grow and it is clear that our puppies grow up to be truly exceptional and stunning representations of the breed. The puppies that we produce would be top prospects for show, competition, breeding, or IPO however we find that most of our clients are looking for a truly top-quality companion. To obtain this level of quality you would previously have had to import a puppy from Germany. By carefully selecting our breeding adults we are able to offer the same if not higher quality from right here in the USA. We love what we do and take great pride in raising each and every puppy as one of our own. This starts from day one and goes up until we say goodbye to them as they are heading off to their new home. When the puppies are born, we provide around the clock care and supervision to ensure each puppy has a solid foundation and healthy start to life. As they grow and age, they get more interaction by the day. All the puppies get played and interacted with daily with the help of my son as well as the adult dogs who love to help care for them and show them how to play and behave. By raising the puppies inside they get use to all the sounds and smells of a regular house which I have heard makes the transition to their new home a lot easier. Not only are the puppies raised inside but our adults also live inside with us as well as these dogs are our family. Raising and taking care of the puppies is a truly unique experience and I take great pride and joy in what I do. It is very difficult to say goodbye to the puppies after giving them so much care and time during the 8 weeks I get to help raise them however it always makes things easier when I see the wonderful homes and families that they are going off to. Please reach out today to learn more about acquiring your new best friend and thank you for considering us here at Cleveland German Shepherds.

They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time. A dog is not just a pet, but a lifelong friend and companion. English Bulldog is one such breed who is extremely loyal, friendly, brave and have a strong sense of dedication towards their owners. They will stick to you like glue throughout their lifetime. How to teach an English bulldog not to bite? Bulldogs can bite for several reasons, but mostly they bite when they feel provoked or threatened. Puppies bite because they have not yet learned how to play properly with humans. Here are step by step instructions to teach your bulldog not to bite. Sit down and play with your bulldog. Let them bite your hand. Your bulldog should be startled, release, and step back. You can spray something bitter in their mouth to further the consequence if your bulldog is not starting to understand after going through steps a few times. An English bulldog looks scary and grumpy but is very calm and amiable. Many people are afraid of the English bulldogs because of their somewhat aggressive appearance, but they are the friendliest of all breeds. They are lovers and not fighters. Bulldogs make wonderful apartment pets and are mainly low-endurance dogs. But all dogs can have the bad habit of biting. An un-socialized adult English bulldog will also nip and bite. Under these circumstances, you should keep your English bulldog away from other dogs and people. It is important to make sure your bulldog learns not to nip and bite as biting will further the stereotype that bulldogs are dangerous, when they are really not dangerous at all when they are loved, trained, and socialized. How to Teach Your English Bulldog Puppy to Not Bite Every English bulldog goes through the puppy stage and learns to interact with others by biting, nipping, and licking. Biting occurs when your puppy is growing and exploring their environment. Your English bulldog puppy may not hurt you intentionally, but as a puppy he is still capable of inflicting harm to you. If this behavior is not rectified and controlled, your puppy can carry this into adulthood. No, And Here's Why! Your puppy might grow up thinking that there is nothing wrong in biting and nipping humans. As their teeth grow and their weight also increases, the harmless biting which you once found cute can turn into rough bites and play. An English bulldog is not aggressive by nature but like other dogs can show aggression if provoked. They are ferociously protective of their owners and others in the family. If they feel their owner or loved ones are threatened, they can turn defensive and show signs of belligerence. English bulldogs are calm and gentle with their owners but are chary of other dogs and strangers. Therefore, it is imperative to socialize your bulldog properly and make them feel safe around other dogs and people. There are chances that if your English bulldog is inadequately socialized, he will react fiercely to what he sees to be a threat to your safety or their own. Your puppy bites because he does not know how to play with humans and needs to be trained to stop biting. You can hire a dog trainer to do that or can do it by yourself. You should train your dog that it is unacceptable to bite and encourage them to play games with toys. Learn more in our article Help! You can give him ice cubes to numb his gums and mitigate the pain. When your puppy is teething, you can also give him things he can chew on. You can give him old washed rags kept in the freezer, hard rubber balls, or nylon bones. When your puppy bites you hard just yell as loudly as you can and pretend to be hurt. This will startle your puppy and ensure that he releases pressure. You must continue this until your puppy starts refraining from nipping and biting. This way your puppy will learn that biting can be a hazard to their friends and humans. They will learn that skin is sensitive and should be only pressed down lightly. Eventually your puppy will become gentler to you during their playtime. When your puppy bites you stop playing with him. Avoid petting, talking and even looking at your puppy. Never show aggression or give physical punishment to the puppy while training him. He will become defensive and grow up to be more aggressive. Remember to praise your puppy for good behavior. Socialize your English bulldog puppy to be more comfortable around strangers also. Socializing will help stop your puppy biting your feet and the feet of visitors. You can walk your puppy to dog parks and public places. You can also visit your family and friends with your English bulldog puppy to help him develop trust with them. English bulldog puppies easily get excited with movements. So, if your puppy sees you moving your feet or any sudden movement, he will swoop into attack. Stop right there and this will make your puppy settle down. When puppies see children running around, they also want to run and play with everybody else and could bite their feet. Use dog commands like Sit, Stay, and Down. Always keep treats in handy while training your puppy to motivate him. If this does not work, then simply walk away. To discipline your adult bulldog, you must leave him alone. Still, if your dog persists to bite, you can seek professional help to curb his habit of biting and nipping. Lastly, do not try to put your adult English bulldog into situations he is not very comfortable in or those which will provoke him. If you know your dog does not like other dogs, keep him away from those dogs. You can also use a spray bottle to spray something with a bitter taste into their mouth when your bulldog bites. I have seen people use lemon juice. Be aware that excessive lemon juice will cause an upset stomach and possibly diarrhea for dogs, so find something else with a bitter taste that is safe for dogs to teach them a negative consequence for biting. The bite force of the English bulldog is pounds per square inch psi. Psi shows us how much pressure is exerted on one square inch of space. This is enough to cut muscles and break bones. English bulldogs have extremely strong jaws and muscular and sturdy bodies. English bulldogs also have a very low center of gravity and can easily take you down. They were bred specially to fight the bulls. Their powerful jaws can cause a lot of damage. With appropriate training and by acting properly around your puppy, you can help him grow out of his habit of biting. Training your adult English bulldog will take some time. Training an adult English bulldog will be relatively difficult, but it is not impossible. So, be patient and try to build up this new behavior with trust and love. Persistence and hard work will go a long way. You will surely see results and all your efforts will yield a very obedient and loving companion for life. Pup pup hooray! Post Views: 2, But bulldogs are still dogs and they have the innate tendency to bite. However, if left unchecked, this seemingly cute behavior can turn into a problem when they get older as he could hurt you or the people around you when they bite. Furparents need to address their biting behavior early on so that they can grow into well-behaved adult dogs. When he accidentally bites you, you have to react accordingly. The way you respond will be crucial as it will tell your puppy if that is an acceptable or unacceptable behavior. Exaggerate if you need to. Your bulldog would stop biting you because he would be startled with your reaction. As they say, Bulldogs are lovers not fighters. Ignore him after he bites you. Wanting nothing more than to please you and get your attention, he would learn that what he did was unacceptable and he would try not to do it again. Be consistent with your response each time he does this but stay calm when training him to stop biting. The key to getting your bulldog puppy to stop biting is through ignoring him. By giving him the cold treatment when he bites you, you are promoting bite inhibition. Your pup may be feeling uncomfortable and might be in pain because of his condition. You can give him ice cubes as these will help numb his gums from the pain. Another way to teach your pup not to bite is by praising him when he stops biting. Remember, bulldogs aim to please you and will bask in your praises and affection so these are good motivators for your desired behavior. You can use the ignore method or praise method. You can also provide him with toys he can chew on to divert his biting behavior. We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no additional cost to you. Pretend To Be Injured Whenever your English bulldog puppy biting and growling at you, pretend to be injured by his bites. When the puppy bites, you yell loudly and pretend like you are hurt a lot. This will shock your puppy, and he will release the hurt immediately. You can continue doing this until he retrains himself from biting you or growling at you. By repeatedly exercising, your puppy will learn that it is hazardous to bite their friends and humans. As time passes, your puppy will learn to become gentle during playtime and get to know that skin is a sensitive part and must not be pressed. Avoid Your Puppy If your puppy bites you while you are playing with him, stop playing at that very moment. When you stop playing immediately, he will realize that he has done something bad. We were playing on the couch, and he bit me. After repeating this every time he bit me, he finally understood that biting is bad. What will happen is he will suddenly become defensive and will become aggressive in the future. These small things are very important and must be kept in mind while training your puppy. Never forget to praise him for his good behavior. Socialize Your Puppy Socialization is very important for the English bulldog puppy to get comfortable with everyone. Your puppy should feel comfortable around friends and strangers. Socialization helps your English bulldog puppy biting and growling not to bite visitors. These etiquettes are necessary, especially when you take your puppy to parks and public places. Save Yourself from Puppy Attacks Puppies are very curious about everything happening around them. They get excited when they see some movements happening around them. You may have noticed your puppy walking moving around your feet whenever you walk around them. If they see any sudden movements, they will immediately attack. When this happens, stop right there and let your puppy settle down. When the puppies watch the children running around, they get very excited and start running and playing. There are chances that your puppy may bite the kids or anyone they are playing with. To avoid this, whenever you see your puppy come running towards you, give him his chewy toy to play with. Never forget to motivate your puppy by giving him his favorite treats. Always keep the treats in your hand while training. When I was training my puppy, I used to have these soft puppy treats all the time. These were his favorite treats, and due to them, he used to perform all the tasks that I gave. Everyone must follow one more important thing , all these exercises, and recommendations in the house. The puppy needs to be comfortable with everyone in the family. So everyone must spend some time with the puppy to become familiar with him. There will be times when the puppy will have to spend the whole day with other family members, and then it will be easier for both dog and the family member. These tips and recommendations are really helpful if you follow them thoroughly. Training your puppy at the correct time is the key to stopping him from doing bad behavior. Adult Bulldog Biting and Growling Sometimes adult bulldogs are also seen biting and growling at humans. I will give you some normal tips about training your adult bulldog. Dogs , Puppy training Alex Andes Puppy Biting: What's Normal, What's Not, and How to Curb It One of the most common issues we see poor dog training advice given for is puppy biting and mouthiness, so we're going to give you the most standardized professional advice possible for this issue. There's a reason why it's discouraged for non-professionals to give legal or medical advice to strangers on the Internet. At best, their advice could be wrong; at worst, it could it be potentially dangerous. We so wish the same rules applied to dog training advice. Puppies go through at least two fear periods in their first year of life, so when those sensitive puppy brains are involved, it's especially important to follow professional instruction! They go through an uncomfortable teething process that lasts for months. They play hard with their siblings, often using their teeth to successfully instigate play and attention. Herding breed dogs are predisposed to nip, herd, and chase small, fast-moving things. Young children often get the brunt of this behavior. Retrievers are predisposed to picking up and holding anything and everything within reach, including your hands and arms. A word on what to avoid: Above all else, avoid physical punishment when it comes to puppy biting. I have heard people given terrible albeit, well-meaning advice over the years, from squeezing your puppy's mouth shut, to pinning them on their backs, to muzzling them to stop the biting. Physical punishments like this range from silly and ineffective to cruel and downright abusive. In fact, you can create fear and aggression in your dog using these types of methods. So, what should you do about puppy biting? When you bring a puppy into your home, it's your job to create fair, consistent boundaries for unwanted behaviors, including when it comes to teeth on skin. Note: You are not putting your puppy in a time out. That involves way too much time, talking, and attention to be an effective punishment. You are either ignoring the behavior or removing yourself from it. That means play is over, fun is over, attention is over. Be as non-dramatic as possible. If the behavior is hard for you to ignore, go behind a door or baby gate where your puppy does not have access to continue nipping at you. If your puppy tries to nip at you when you return, remove yourself again. You should see a major decrease in the intensity of biting as well as the amount of biting attempts within a few days. An Important Caveat: Some puppies find the act of a person walking away reinforcing. If your puppy seems to enjoy you removing yourself as a game of chase, you can alternatively use the side of your leg not your knee, please! You may have to block them multiple times before they stop trying; don't give up! And most importantly, still avoid yelling or using your hands — bitey puppies tend to find both of these things very exciting. Remember, it's normal for young puppies to explore the world with their mouths. Things to keep in mind: Be sure to give your pup attention and praise when they are behaving nicely! All family members and guests MUST be consistent in order for this to work! Be aware that even doing everything right, this behavior may not go away entirely until months of age. Remember, this is a normal developmental period in puppies. For extra-bitey puppies, or those that are biting after months of age, this blog will help give you some additional tips and recommendations. Why Does This Work? A behavior that doesn't get reinforced will stop. Your pup will learn that we don't react to biting with play, attention, or even a negative reaction. All of these things can be fun for a puppy. Your pup will learn to self-entertain. Once they realize the nipping isn't working, they will eventually redirect themselves onto something else. Your puppy will seek out appropriate ways to get your attention, like offering a "sit" or laying at your feet. A few other suggestions: It's also important to have a management place for your puppy, such as a play pen or baby-gated bathroom. It gives you a break from your puppy, and is a calm place for your puppy to settle down if he gets too wound up. Make sure your puppy has plenty of rubbery teething toys, is getting daily exercise, and is not excessively crated. If his needs are not being met, the nipping will take longer to extinguish. Make sure your puppy is eating three meals a day. Things we may think are punishing, like pushing your puppy away, yelling at him, etc, can be considered fun, play-like behaviors for your puppy and can encourage biting. When doing the above exercise, be as quiet and calm as you can. When should you be concerned about biting in puppies? You should seek out a certified professional if your puppy: Is growling, snapping, or biting when a person comes near a resource. Food, toys, etc Stiffens and stares at the person before biting. Is consistently biting and breaking skin. Barks, growls, or nips not in play at new people entering the home. Snaps or growls at children. What if it's not getting better? Remember, we do not expect this behavior to go away entirely until at least months of age. We also need to take into consideration a dog's breed, social history, and any medical conditions that could be contributing. For example, if a puppy has an intestinal parasite that's depleting their nutritional stores, we often see an uptick in biting. For extra guidance with extremely bitey puppies, or those that are still regularly biting after 6 months of age, check out these additional tips. valley bulldog puppies for sale uk - I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T.
