Does the facility have all necessary paperwork? The licensed breeder will have any and all information you ask for, such as vaccinations, breeding information, and all other health records. They may not have a full genetic record, but will be able to explain how to find it. The puppy mill will have very little, if any, paperwork available for you. They may actually handwrite a bill of sale. Is the owner or breeder knowledgeable? The breeder will be able to speak with you about the breed s that they maintain at that facility. They will most likely only have one or two breeds. This ensures that there is only the registered breed involved with each dog. The breeder and owner will be able to answer any questions that are logical. The puppy mill breeder will likely have multiple breeds and not much order maintained as far as keeping each breed separate. This is one reason they will not allow visitors around the facility. This facility will not be able to answer detailed questions. What are the prices at each facility? The licensed breeder will have higher costs due to the legitimacy of the health records, the breeding standards and medical care given. There is no cutting costs for those that are actually legitimate breeders and owners. At the puppy mill breeder, they will have much below average costs for purchase. The reasons should be obvious, they are not registered or licensed. Proper medical care is not given and it is possible that you will not receive the breed that you expect. With multiple breeds at this facility and no true control or maintaining order between breeds, it may not be obvious until the dog is much older. What does all this mean for you, the buyer? This should show you that if the facility is not up to par, unwilling to show you the facility and where the dogs are kept, they likely are not legitimate. In other words, rather than spending any money here, run! The cost may save you money financially, however, you most likely are not getting the breed you are seeking. Little Known Facts A Golderman may have a long coat. The Golden retriever is known for that flowing golden color coat. However, the Doberman does not have a long coat. It is quite possible that your Golderman will have a short coat. These Golden Pinschers are a first generation Hybrid dog breed. This means that since the Golden Pinscher is still relatively new, the parents are each purebred. Which parent is which does not matter, you will have one Golden Retriever and one Doberman Pinscher. Since both breeds are both considered to be large breeds, apartment living may not be ideal for the Golden Pinscher. Their weight can easily reach 85 pounds. This breed needs the room to roam and run, to be playful and burn off some of the energy. Temperament This can be slightly confusing for new owners or those considering adoption. They may look and act smart, but you should never forget that he is a dog, not a person. They think the way a dog does and only know what we teach them. Some people will just raise their expectations too highly for how their dog will behave. Even the smartest, good-est dog there is will dog things that make you furious at times. Focusing only on the symptoms, not the root issues Focusing on correcting every bad act a time is like focusing on treating every symptom of the disease at a time. For example, a dog that chews on everything and barks all the time could be bored and has a lot of pent-up energy because they are not getting enough exercise. As time goes on, your dog will start to forget some of his training. This will show up as they become inconsistent in following some commands. When this happens, you should immediately work on reinforcing their training. Otherwise, as your dog starts forgetting his training, the good behaviors could be more easily replaced wit bad ones. This is the moment you should start making the rules as clear as they could. Be gentle, firm, and consistent. Keep your rules clear and firmly stop the dog from breaking them for whatever reason. Remember that whatever you teach your dog in their puppy-hood is likely to stick with them for their lifetime, so be consistent and start the training as early as you step into your house with them. Conflicting actions that confuse the dog If one time you laugh at them jumping at you but then you yell at them when they jump on your child, that will confuse the dog. The same happens when you make certain rules clear to the dog — such as no begging for table scraps — but then someone at the family breaks it — such as when your spouse give them table scraps. Making the rules clear is not only about the dogs, but about the whole family. Anyone that interacts with the dog on a regular basis — be it a spouse, the kids, the neighbors, relatives, or friends — should be well aware of what the rules are. They will only understand that something is allowed or not allowed. Getting emotional Golden retrievers tend to be sensitive dogs , and getting emotional will only make the situation worse. If you get angry at the dog, your dog can be angry as well, and this will make correcting the bad behavior quite difficult. Keep your emotions under control when disciplining your dog. Pay attention to your body language, tone of voice, and even facial expressions. Whatever the reason may be, you need to be able to know when you need professional help and go seek it. This is quite common when they are being left alone for long periods of time. Not Getting enough exercise Goldens are e n ergetic and active dogs. They need at least 30 to 40 minutes of moderate to intense exercise per day. Thankfully, with golden retrievers, you can easily identify when this starts happening. Goldens have superb recall of their commands, and so missing a few recalls is a clear sign that something is not right, and that it may be time to go over their training again. You need to re-train your dog at least once every couple of years to keep their training fresh in their minds. You are reinforcing bad behavior unintentionally We have also discussed this one before. If you, or someone that regularly interacts with the dog, is intentionally or unintentionally reinforcing the bad behaviors and confusing the dog, you should tell them to stop. Make the rules clear to everyone that interacts with the dog, and give no exceptions. They are ill Dogs can misbehave or even become aggressive when they are ill. If your dog shows any physical symptoms of illness, you should take them to the vet and have them checked out. Sudden mood swings, changes in sleep schedules, refusing to eat, eating too little, or eating too much are examples of signs that you may want to have the vet check them out. They are injured or in pain Dogs can easily hurt themselves while playing, especially when playing outside. This can also cause the dog to misbehave or behave in ways that are not like them. You can easily tell that your dog is injured or in pain if they start distancing themselves from you or if they react aggressively when you touch a certain area — such as their paws. A very common problem that occur to goldens as they grow older is their limping. Golden retrievers can easily hurt their hips or knees playing roughly when they grow older. There are a lot things that can make a dog anxious and stressed, but most commonly are loud noises, bright lights, changes in routine, and a move to a new house, neighborhood, or city. If your dog is anxious or stressed, you need to spend more time with them to reassure them and comfort them. They want to mate Golden Retrievers can misbehave when they want to mate. Goldens can try to run away even to find a mate, and some of them unfortunately never make it back home. If your golden retriever has not been neutered, this could very much be the reason they are misbehaving. The solution then is one of two options, you can either find them a mate or neuter them. Punishing them or trying to discipline them is unlikely to work here, mating is a very strong and persistent instinct that can drive even the most well-trained dogs insane. They are energetic, intelligent, relatively easy to train, and very people-focussed. An f2 Labradoodle is certain to be all of these things as well. Where Labs and Poodles differ is that Poodles tend to be less interested in socializing with other dogs. They might also take a little longer to warm up to new people. And they are more likely to display watchdog behaviors, such as barking at people who approach their home. An f2 Labradoodle could also inherit these qualities. Breeders of this type of Labradoodle often hope to achieve a more Poodle-like coat than some f1 or f2 Labradoodles might have. This way, potential owners that suffer from dog allergies will be better off. Generally, an f2b Labradoodle will have wavy or curly fur. They will need regular grooming, and will often be low to moderate shedders. The curlier their coat, the more fur and dander will get trapped rather than shedding around your home. This is all great if you are familiar with the terms being used. This simply refers to the offspring of mixed breed dogs, so f1 means first generation, f2 means second generation, and so on. F2b Labradoodles will have a higher percentage of Poodle DNA, which will increase their chances of inheriting things like the Poodle coat. The amount of curl they have can still vary. Some may just have a slight wave, whilst others might have a very tight curl, or even corded fur. Color will also vary depending on the influence of their specific parents. The size of an f2b Labradoodle will also depend on that of their parents. Generally, they will fall somewhere between the two. So, if your f2b Doodle is from two parents that are very similar in size, chances are that your puppy will grow to the same sort of height and build. Make sure you know which type of Poodle is being backcrossed to — ie. Miniature, Toy, or Standard, as this can impact the size of your Doodle puppy. They can get along well in homes with other pets and even with young children, but remember that they can be quite energetic and can grow quite large. Are f2b Labradoodles Hypoallergenic? The term hypoallergenic can be quite misleading. All dogs have the allergens that can trigger an allergic reaction, but rather than in their fur, the allergens are found in their dander, saliva, and even urine. So why does a dog like the Poodle tend to trigger allergies less than a Lab? Poodle fur is low shedding. And, the very tight curls or cords of their fur will catch any saliva-coated hair ir dander that does shed. This will trap the allergens in their coat, which can form painful knots and increase grooming needs, but will lower the amount of allergens around your home. F2b Labradoodles are more likely to inherit Poodle traits, like tightly curled fur and low shedding coats. So, an f2b Labradoodle might not trigger your allergies so much, and may be better than a Labradoodle with more Labrador DNA. However, because curly fur will trap dander and fur that sheds, you will still need to come into contact with it when grooming, and Poodle fur needs much more grooming than straight fur. Not all dogs will trigger allergies, even dogs of the same breed. Another tip is to let someone else in the house, someone without allergies, do the grooming. An f2b Doodle has been backcrossed to a Poodle, but an f2 Doodle has not. This means they often express more Poodle traits in their appearance and temperament. In contract, an f1 Doodle has two purebred parents. It is a first generation mix. So, it will have equal amounts of Labrador and Poodle influence. This means that f1 Labradoodles can look very different from one another — even those from the same litter. And, they are much more likely to have the high shedding double coat of the Labrador. Is an f2b Labradoodle Right for Me? An f2b Labradoodle will usually have a low shedding coat, with curly or wavy fur. Their exact appearance will vary a little, depending on the traits that they inherit from their parents. So, owners of any Doodle must be prepared to offer them plenty of opportunities for exercise and mental stimulation every single day. They can also grow to be quite large dogs, so basic obedience training is a must. As well as proper socialization from a young age. Finding f2b Labradoodle Puppies Most breeders will list the Labradoodle generations they offer on their websites. Or, they will be able to tell you in person more about their Doodle puppies. Ask plenty of questions, take a look at where the mother dog and puppies are being kept, and make sure to see evidence of health testing. However, you should see a noticeable reduction in the shedding with an F1 and they usually have a great temperament if the parents are of the same quality.
