He's well-behaved in the house and walks well on leash although he does need to be reminded periodically who's walking who. Bolt enjoys being brushed and it's about the only time he's able to stay still for more than a couple of minutes. He is calm in a crate or just confined to a single room when left alone. He loves affection and just being by his human's side. Nothing makes him happier than a game of fetch or a pool or sprinkler to run through in the yard. He never gets tired of chasing a ball and he will stare at you with a sweet, goofy look till you give in and throw it again. He doesn't care if you throw it clear across the yard or just roll it a few inches. He does all the work so you can easily even play a game in the house without ever getting up off the couch. He'll do all the work for you. He even understands "closer" when you don't want to have to stretch far to get the ball again. Bolt defiantly would do better in a house rather than an apartment. He would make a great family pet. Bolt grew up with Ace and they love each other very much!
Plush toys Puzzle toys Each of these types have a specific purpose and benefit, and can help with training in a different way. This is where chew toys come in. You need to have a rotation of chew toys that serve as safe outlets for your pup to take out their chewing needs. And in addition to helping satisfy this natural desire to chew, chew toys also help with teething. Chewing helps relieve the pain and pressure of their adult teeth coming in , and throwing a chew toy in the freezer before you give it to them can also help alleviate teething pain. Now most chew toys are made of rubber or plastic and the list below has a few different materials to select from. He would run around the house swinging them, and then when he was tired he would lay down and chew on the keys. The rubber is tough, yet bouncy and has some give, so your puppy will love it. For crate training , durable chew toys are great for keeping them occupied in the crate. Interactive Toys Interactive toys are toys that let you and your dog play together, such as frisbees, tennis balls, or tug ropes. You can get this rope from Amazon here. To teach drop it with a tug rope you simply stop tugging, hold the rope very still, and wait for your puppy to eventually get bored and let go. Praise them for dropping it and then after a minute or two of tugging, do it again. I also like to reinforce commands like sit and down while playing tug. Plush Toys Plush toys are soft, fuzzy toys that often have a squeaker inside. Zippy Paws Avocado. The below picks are toys for Golden Retrievers that are fully grown. For most Goldens, the toys I have recommended below will be great choices. If your dog is known to destroy and chew up his toys, skip to the section below on toys for chewers. Reminder, as a veterinarian I have to point out that even non-chewers should not be left alone with a toy. The large size Bob-A-Lot from Starmark can fit up to 3 cups of food so you can serve a whole meal in the toy. The toy method of feeding is great for smart dogs like Golden Retrievers and keeps them from eating too fast. You can also add treats to the inside to encourage them to play with it. It is easy for your Golden to pick up and carry. All of this makes this one of the best toys for Golden Retrievers which is why I usually have a couple rolling around my house. This plush stuffed critter is one of our favorite toys for Golden Retrievers. It is fairly sturdy so it can handle a lot of shaking and a little bit of tugging. Plus it is just really cute and will pose well with your pup for all sorts of photos. They just love it so much that I keep buying it. However, the topic of toy destroying leads to my next section on toys for Golden Retrievers who are chewers. Many companies claim their toy is chew proof but there is no such thing. All dogs should be watched carefully as they play with their toys so that you can take them away if they start eating the pieces. However if your dog is a moderate chewer, here are two that my toy destroying dogs enjoy. The good news is that inside the toy is a Kong toy so even after they remove the fabric, your pup will still have a great toy to play with. The Wubba is great because they or you can throw it around, play tug, or just carry it around the house. They do come smaller for young puppies. These balls dispense treats or dog food and can hold up to some moderate chewing remember no toys will outlast a really aggressive chewer. My dogs love these types of toys. This will keep them entertained for a bit and the larger the pieces you put into it, the longer it takes them to get them out. Best Toys for Golden Retrievers — Puppies Puppies have special needs in each part of their development. Although they can of course play with all of the toys listed above, we have chosen a few that are just for the little ones. The linked product is a 6 pack of fun shapes so they can have one in every room. These toys are durable, but you should always watch your puppy carefully as they chew and play with toys. If your pup starts getting some string loose, take it away immediately because string can cause GI problems. Lesson learned: Do not give the Giggler to your puppy and then get on a conference call with work, enough said. Best Stuffed Puppy Toy. Classic Kong The Classic Kong is a versatile toy ideal for keeping your puppy entertained. Fill it with treats or peanut butter and freeze it for an added challenge. Teething toys are essential for puppies because they relieve teething discomfort. You can help your puppy through this challenging phase while protecting your home with suitable teething toys. Chewing on toys relieves sore gums and can help prevent destructive chewing behavior. To keep your puppy engaged and satisfied, provide a variety of textures and shapes. How To Choose The Best Toy Your Golden Retriever Puppy There are several factors to consider when choosing teething toys for puppies to ensure your furry friend gets the best toys for their needs. Here are some key points to remember: 1. To soothe their gums, for example, at weeks, you can select a Nylabone teething ring or a Kong Natural Teething Rubber Puppy Toy filled with frozen treats. You can introduce adult chew toys such as rope or fetch when they are past the teething stage around 24 weeks. The Type Of Toy Numerous teething toys for puppies are available, but some of the best options include sturdy rubber toys that provide both safety and durability. Bully sticks are also a good option for teething puppies. Many puppy teething toys are softer than adult toys because they are gentle enough for developing teeth but firm enough to withstand chewing. Look for durable rubber toys that can withstand chewing without breaking apart and posing a choking hazard. You can choose the best toys for your furry friend by keeping these factors in mind, allowing them to get through their teething phase easily and comfortably. Chewing is an innate need in dogs because it releases endorphins, which make them feel good and relaxed. Unfortunately, this can lead to destructive chewing of household items. In addition, chew toys are crucial for puppies during the teething stage. Their mouths become sore as their adult teeth emerge, and chew toys can provide relief. Furthermore, Golden Retrievers are known to be a mouthy breed. Because their breeding history includes carrying hunted birds in their mouths, they are accustomed to using their mouths frequently. As a result, chew toys are an essential tool for satisfying their needs while protecting your belongings. There is no wrong time for a puppy to pick up a chew toy and begin gnawing. Chew toys are beneficial during crate training because they can keep your pup entertained and focused on something that makes them happy rather than feeling lonely in their crate. If your dog is tearing around the house, a peanut butter chew toy or a bully stick can be a great way to distract them and get them to focus on something else. Additionally, chew toys can help a hyper puppy relax. Your pup will be ready to nap after a chewing session and a quick potty break. Supervising your puppy when using new chew toys is critical because some are less durable than others and can be easily chewed through. If your puppy chews through the toy quickly, the pieces may be swallowed or choked on. Here are some valuable tips to help your puppy learn to love their chew toys: Treat them with peanut butter: Most puppies adore peanut butter, and smearing some on a new chew toy can instantly make it more appealing. As they lick and chew the toy, they associate it with the tasty treat and develop a fondness for it. Toy rotation and storage: Because puppies enjoy new toys, try rotating and storing their chew toys in a toy bin. Toys that are too small can pose a choking hazard, whereas toys that are too large may be difficult for your dog to grip and chew on. Put toys in the freezer: When your puppy is teething, their mouth may be sore and hot. Put their chew toys in the freezer for a few minutes to cool them down and provide extra relief for their sore gums. Praise them for chewing: Positive reinforcement is essential for getting your puppy to enjoy their chew toys. Chewing is an entirely normal behavior in dogs, but it can become a problem when it becomes excessive and causes damage to household items such as shoes, carpets, and clothing. To prevent this, provide your Golden Retriever with a safe chew toy they can enjoy. Another cause of excessive chewing in dogs is a lack of attention from their owner. Training is also essential in reducing excessive chewing habits. Teach your dog not to chew on anything they come across by rewarding good behavior with positive reinforcement. Finally, exercise is essential. Golden retrievers are active dogs who require moderate to vigorous exercise regularly. They may become destructive and aggressive chewers if they do not get enough exercise. So give them plenty of opportunities to run, play, and let off steam healthily. The frequency at which you need to replace the toys will depend on how aggressively your puppy chews and how often they play with the toys. As a general rule of thumb, you should replace teething toys when they become damaged or start to show signs of wear, as this can pose a choking hazard or lead to ingestion of small pieces. Can I give my Golden Retriever puppy frozen teething toys? You can give your Golden Retriever puppy frozen teething toys. Frozen toys can provide additional relief for sore and swollen gums during the teething process. Be sure to monitor your puppy when they are playing with frozen toys and remove them if they become damaged or if your puppy seems to be having difficulty chewing. Golden Retriever puppies, like all puppies, will go through a teething phase during which they may be more prone to biting and chewing on objects around the house. Providing appropriate teething toys can redirect their chewing behavior to appropriate objects and help prevent destructive chewing of household items. Additionally, consistent positive reinforcement training can help teach your puppy appropriate chewing behavior. Toys that are designed to promote dental health often have ridges, bumps, or other textures that can help scrape away plaque and tartar as your puppy chews. Some toys may also contain enzymes that break down plaque and tartar, reducing the risk of dental problems. Harder toys made from materials like nylon or hard rubber can also help clean teeth and exercise the jaw. Safe Materials The best chew toys are fairly hard and durable, but there are a few other things you should look out for when making a decision. If possible, always opt for toys made of non-toxic materials. That way, if they do chew off and swallow any of it, the internal damage can be somewhat mitigated. Be Prepared To Pay For Quality Not all expensive dog toys are high quality, but most high-quality dog toys are more expensive than the run-of-the-mill toys you can pick up at your neighborhood dollar store. Spending a little more money now to get a durable, safe and fun toy that will last is ultimately less expensive in the long run than having to continually replace cheap toys that your dog can destroy within hours. As with any product, the best materials will necessarily cost a little more. Certain materials lend themselves to durability — one of the most important features of a high-quality chew toy for golden retrievers. Rope Toys A close second to hard rubber is the huge balls of rope that many dogs love playing tug-of-war with. The plush fabric can be torn apart easily and swallowed. Common skin conditions in XL Bullies include: Demodicosis mites. Please do not mix the American Staffie with the much smaller and far less aggressive English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Despite there notoriety they are still only a small amount of these dogs in the UK In the UK they have become the most sought-after breed of dog and are one of the most recent and most talked about of all the latest crossbreeds. These dogs are incredibly reactive and aggressive to both humans and dogs and almost any other animals. Aggression: Are XLs aggressive? This Bully dog is not afraid to socialise and meet new people. They are highly tolerant of children and strangers. I would imagine the gene pool in the UK is far smaller than in America. It could be that the writers of these glowing testaments are talking about the behaviour of their dogs and not the breed as a whole. Or they are looking through rose-tinted glasses, or they are lying. May I suggest all of those reasons are probably true? One of my specialities was in all types of aggression. I believe these dogs are over-reactive, stimulated by movement, distrustful of strangers and incredibly strong. I have assessed and been involved in numerous cases that have gone to court many I have assessed or defended in court showed the dog as not inherently aggressive. Unfortunately a number did. I have worked with every breed and crossbreed. I have never refused to assess or work with any type of dog breed over a period of 40 years, owning, handling, assessing and working with tens of thousands of them. Though I have retired now, this breed of dog is one I would totally refuse to work with, simply because of the danger to both humans and other dogs. I believe they are probably the most dangerous breed ever created and the following figures and statistics bear that statement out. Remember these are a new American breed and are particularly new to the UK. I would like to point out that these bully breeds were also bred for dog fighting and two of the main crosses in XL Bullys are the American Bulldog and the American Pitbull Terrier both commonly used. The tracking and protection part is to track and bring a man down. Dog Attacks and Deaths in the UK: Typically, there are less than 3 fatalities a year f In there were four deaths one was a young year-old boy called Jack Lis. However, in there was a massive leap in fatalities 10 people were killed, 6 of them killed by American XL Bullies and the 7th victim was by an American Bulldog. There have been six deaths already this year. One you may have read or heard about was a professional dog walker called Natasha Johnston. .As I was writing this article the Police issued an update saying she was killed by her own dog. Why did the police put the Cane Corso in as a cross when they are often used to create the XL Bully in the first place? The dog was described as a large bulldog-type breed and was believed to be a banned breed. The sixth death was two Rottweillers once again Mastiff Breeds. Conclusion: Think for just a minute about those facts and statistics, The majority of the fatalities including children as young as 17 months were caused by one breed of dog that is new and fairly rare in this country. People are buying them as family pets on the glowing approbation of the breeders in America. The majority were psychologically and temperamentally sound. I actually felt that the Dangerous Dogs Act was flawed from the outset and despite tinkering it is still unfit for purpose. .Genetics is just one part of the equation. Having said that, I believe what they have done with the American XL Bully is to create a dog that is so dangerous that the general public should never be allowed to breed or own one. For once in my life I believe that something drastic must be done to curb this ultra-aggressive and hyper-reactive breed. Put a ban on the breeding and selling of these dogs in all parts of the UK and start educating the general public on how to raise a well-rounded and safe dog when they first get a puppy. Most people especially during lockdown on a whim without any research or knowledge on how dogs think or learn. Most dogs are not socialised or trained enough during that first week period. I watched a Netflix series called Unnatural Selection In the series, a dog breeder, a totally untrained layman working as an oil field technician was experimenting with genetics and altering the DNA of dogs. His own dogs were mainly American XL Bully-type dogs and he had a lot of them. He was buying DNA manipulation kits so as to speed up the dramatic changes that people wanted in this breed of dog. He artificially inseminated and extracted semen from his dogs he was experimenting to make rapid genetic changes in his animals. The man in question lives in Mississippi USA. Perhaps he or someone else succeeded? If so that could explain the sudden dramatic climb in fatal attacks from these XL Bully Breeds. It has now been reported that the XL American Bully dogs in the UK are times more likely to kill than any other dog breed, according to a new analysis of public data. What I am concerned about is whatever happened created a Frankenstein monster of a dog. Legislation is urgently required before many more children, adults, and dogs are killed. The problem with the XL Bullies their aggression is not related to socialisation, though that can exacerbate the problem. The real concern is their powerful genetic disposition for predatory and reactive aggression. These dogs were bred to fight and attack. They are the type of dogs that were used in Bull and Bear Baiting, and dog fighting, They also hark back to the famous dogs of war used by the Romans to create their empire and of course to invade Britain. Has anyone heard anything from the Government about this problem? I have been saying this on TV and Radio for the last 6 months. Neither DEFRA nor the Government has uttered a word about the fact that In the last 3 years, the vast majority of deaths have been caused by one specific breed. I also have a petition regarding Dog Theft it has , signatures The Government promised to change the law nearly two years ago. Has it been done has the severity of the sentencing changed and have they changed the charge from stolen property like a laptop or mobile to abducting a family pet and sentient animal with all that entails? You can guess the answer. See below for a link to the petition. I think this article is important enough to share on all media platforms. Some of the media platforms are shown below. Dog domestic dog The American Bully is a modern breed of dog that was developed as a companion dog , and originally standardized and recognized as a breed in by the American Bully Kennel Club ABKC. Their published breed standard describes the dog as giving the "impression of great strength for its size". Temperament in adult dogs is very much dependent on training, and the breed can be very demanding and needs to be properly trained. Due to the size and strength of the American Bully, legal controls on the ownership of the breed exist in several countries. History The American Bully, as it is now known, began development in the s with the majority of the final behavioral and aesthetic product being completed in the s. Eventually, enough breeders agreed that these dogs were disparate enough from American Pit Bull Terriers that it warranted them admitting that they were a different breed altogether. According to the ABKC, the initial desire for this breed was to produce a dog with a lower prey drive and more of the "bully" traits and characteristics than the American Staffordshire Terrier. Mass and heavy bone was prioritized to ensure such a look, and due to this many of the dogs shown today display the wide front for which they were originally bred. All these varieties are expected to follow the same standard with minor alterations. Standard Standard type in side view The standard American Bully type is a medium-sized dog with a compact bulky muscular body, heavy bone structure and blocky head. Male dogs must be 17 to 20 in 43 to 51 cm , while females must be 16 to 19 in 41 to 48 cm. Pocket A pocket American Bully The "pocket" type is a smaller variant, with full-grown males under 17 inches 43 cm , but no less than 14 inches 36 cm , at the withers and females under 16 inches 41 cm , but no less than 13 inches 33 cm , at the withers. XL Champion XL American Bully Stud An XL type is determined by its adult height, with males between 21 inches 53 cm and 23 inches 58 cm at the withers and females between 19 inches 48 cm and 22 inches 56 cm at the withers. Classic The classic is a lighter-framed dog than the standard, but falls within the same height range. Smaller dogs are sometimes called "Micro", and larger ones are called "XXL", but neither are recognized by the kennel clubs as legitimate varieties. Temperament The American Bully is a highly adaptable and trainable breed. Human aggression is discouraged in breed standards; however, a level of dog aggression is characteristic of the breed. Cherry eye , ectropion , and entropion are often seen affecting the eyes, while brachycephalic respiratory syndrome can be seen in the shorter muzzled dogs. He stated that the dogs' bite caused crushing and shredding injuries which shred skin and break bones, carrying particular risk of irreparable nerve damage. The dog, an American Bully, had been bought as a family pet one week previously. The dog, one of a pair, weighed lb 89 kg. If the dog has not been trained to stop it won't stop. The dog weighed more than the victim and standing up it would have been at face height on its hind legs. After a forensic veterinary report, the American XL Bully, believed to have been responsible for Johnston's death, was euthanised following the attack. In response, Detective Chief Inspector John Davies said: "Greater Manchester Police officers searched two houses and seized 15 dogs six adults and nine puppies believed to be the same breed as that which attacked Jonathan. It was reported that there were concerns within Defra , the government department responsible for administering the Dangerous Dogs Act, over the practicality of a ban. The American Bully was the second most commonly seized breed, with 73 dogs seized. Prior to , no seizures of American Bullies were reported. In the first five months of the force had seized 44 American bullies, almost three times the next most common breed, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, of which 16 had been seized. It must be muzzled and on a lead no longer than 2 metres 6 ft 7 in when in public amongst other requirements. They are very gentle and loving toward other animals and especially people. Good tempered, well mannered, extremely loyal and an affectionate family member. Mostly obedient, this dog wants nothing more than to please its human. The XL American Bully is well known for having a high tolerance for kids and an overwhelming eagerness to please its love ones. Confident, yet not aggressive, XL Bully possesses a great temperament. Physically, they have an impressive strapping build, which is both muscular and defined. They display great strength, durability, and agility. Bully Temperament It is safe to say that although this breed possesses an impressive stature, with defined muscles and a strong build, they are very, very sweet hearted and have a soft temperament. Many people believe the American Bully is simply a type of pit-bull this is false and is a common misconception towards this breed. Overall, the XL American Bully is a well-rounded, reliable, trustworthy and ideal family member mans best-friend. The XL American Bully needs an owner who is firm with a lot of patience, that's very confident, and very consistent. Always let them know whats expected of them; give rules and guidelines to follow to what they are and are not allowed to do. Establish yourself as the pack leader as dogs are naturally instinctively inclined to follow in that order. A Pit bull and American Bully are two distinct dog breeds. They also love attention, and are definitely massive affection givers, so you can expect tons and tons of licks, kisses and head tilts. They are known for being an extremely adaptable breed who are both playful and caring, this makes them an exceptional addition to families with children. The American Bully is known to be the loyalist of the many dog breeds, adding to the many reasons for why they make the perfect family pet. They range from 24 to 27 inches in height and weigh anywhere from pounds to pounds, both male and female. They can pack on size and weight very fast, so I recommend to not overfeed them and to let them grow gradually so that their bones fuse together properly. This dog was first bred in the s. The American Kennel Club does not recognize this dog breed. Their temperament has been selectively bred to produce a dog with a soft and mellow personality. They are kind, loving and gentle towards family members and do well in homes with or without kids. The appearance of this pooch closely resembles a Pitbull dog. The Bully requires 30 to 60 minutes of exercise each day. Your puppy comes with all the paperwork, health records, and a small bag of food. Very attentive and particular with their dogs and the puppies that they place. Collin Shafer One of the best breeders in town! Fantastic experience and breeder! In addition to altering base coat color, merle also modifies eye color and coloring on the nose and paw pads. The merle gene occasionally changes dark eyes to blue, or part of the eye to be colored blue. Responsible breeders who want to produce merle puppies mate a merle with a non-merle dog; and none will have the vision or hearing defects associated with double merle dogs. Some of our dogs are available world-wide, and some are only available within the USA or only available outside of the USA. This can change at any time, so please check back at any time to see the current status. A tri carrier dog is a dog that doesn't show tan points, but can produce dogs that do. A great example of a tri-carrier dog is Triple Champion King Louii. King Louii is a lilac colored dog, and does not show any tri colors at all. But if King Louii is bred to a female that is tri, they can produce full tri-colored puppies. Tri Carrier means a dog has a single copy of the Tan Point trait heterozygous. We are looking for genetic defects within our dogs that could be passed down to their puppies. Within our program, you will see 2 different results. CRD4 is an eye condition that originated with long-haired Dachshunds, and is very common within our breed. It is estimated that over half of our breed has at least 1 trait. We wrote up an article on it, so please click below to learn more! COIs also track how related dogs are further back in the pedigree. Look back 10 generations in our own family trees and you are very unlikely to see the same name twice. This is not true for dogs, though. The same names can appear many, many times.

I've photographed many families along with their beloved dog, often a Golden. I've had numerous Golden Retrievers in my training classes over the years, whether they be reds, English Cremes or the beautiful blonde that we so typically think of when we think of a Golden Retriever. Goldens hail from Scotland originally and are known as a hard-working breed, often employed as service animals and therapy dogs. They're also known for their voracious appetites, young-at-heart personalities and their penchant for carrying things in their mouths particularly when excited. Goldens are intelligent, athletic dogs, and are exceptional competitors in dog sports like obedience, agility, dock diving and more. Golden Retrievers gorgeous coats and perennially smiling face make them a dream to photograph, especially during their little butterball puppy stage. When Moana's that's "mow-ah-nah" dog mom contacted me for cute little puppy pics, of course I said "Yes" right after I squealed with delight and we quickly secured a session on the calendar before she got any bigger! The sun was shining, the flowers were in bloom and Moana romped and played and we caught it all. At the viewing and ordering appointment, Brenda had a hard time narrowing down her favorites because Moana's just that cute, but we eventually got there. She decided on ordering two plush blankets one for her and one for Moana's bed along with a digital negative package which is presented in a handmade reclaimed barn wood box with a metal print on the cover and a 5x7 print of each image inside along with a USB drive with all the high resolution digital image files. Doggy Daddy: Tucker I was recently contacted by the Creed family to take their family portraits and they requested that I take a few pet portraits of their very special family member, Tucker. It was only later when Moana's mom shared her Christmas mini session photo of Moana with them see below , that the Creeds asked if those were taken by Penny Whistle Photography. Brenda contacted me afterward to say "You just photographed Moana's daddy". Small world indeed and now I know where Moana gets her good looks! She said yes right away, and we started planning the details. We took these at sunrise, and the forecast threw us for a bit of a loop with last-minute rain. While I did my hair and got my makeup done, it was already drizzling outside. We decided to move ahead, however. As it turn out, we guessed correctly. A beautiful sky opened up for us, and the rain stopped just in time for photos. It ended up drizzling for just a couple of minutes, but we barely even noticed. It was simply perfect! Despite Atlas looking like a complete angel in these photos, he was not quite as calm while we were taking them! He was so excited to be there he could barely sit still. But Alicia is so talented she captured him at just the right moments! It was quite a good lesson for me too — even when a session feels a little chaotic, magic is being captured. I tell my clients this all the time. Being on the other side of the camera is a little different, though! Alicia was also fantastic and reassured us that even though we had a wiggly puppy on our hands, she still got amazing photos. When we got the gallery, we fell in love with all of them! It was so hard to narrow down to this set for the blog. These obviously will be all over our home very soon. We will be forever thankful for these photos.

Nadelhaus breeds purebred German Shepherds year round and we also import both German Shepherd puppies and adults direct from Europe for our clients. Long-haired German Shepherds are technically called a long coat German Shepherd, while a short-haired German Shepherd is called a normal coat or stock coat German Shepherd. Dogs with either coat have the same physiological structure and both have double coats: an undercoat and a top coat. The only difference between the two is the top coat. The long haired German Shepherd will have a heavier top coat than the undercoat. The double coat of a German Shepherd is an important feature of the breed. The double coat weathers and insulates the dogs—it protects them from the cold in the winter and the heat in the summer. The length of the coat of a German Shepherd has no impact on its ability as a working dog. What does a long haired German Shepherd look like? The skeleton and structure of a long-haired German Shepherd will be the same as a short-haired German Shepherd. Both dogs will have an undercoat, but the difference is that the top coat of a long-haired German Shepherd will be longer. The long coat GSD has longer and silkier hair on the chest, back, face, tail, and on the backside of its legs. Short on the head, including the inside of the ears, on the front side of the legs, on the paws and toes, somewhat longer and more strongly covered in hair on the neck, almost forming a mane. On the back side of the legs the hair extends to the carpal joint or the hock and forms clear trousers on the back side of the haunches. Historically, German Shepherds originated in Germany and were native sheepdogs. He firmly believed that the standard of the German Shepherd breed should not include dogs with long hair. Throughout the s, long haired German Shepherds were considered unsuitable and unacceptable for breeding. It is important to note that long-haired German Shepherds are the result of natural genetic diversity and not a separate breed. Their long coats are an inherited trait that can occur when both parents carry the recessive long-hair gene. This gene manifests as a more luxurious and abundant coat, offering a striking contrast to the traditional short-haired German Shepherd appearance. The breeding of long-haired German Shepherds follows the same rigorous standards and principles as their short-haired counterparts. The focus remains on maintaining the breed's exceptional temperament, working abilities, and overall health. Over time, breeders recognized the value of long-haired German Shepherds and began selectively breeding them to maintain and enhance their unique characteristics. Through careful pairings and strategic breeding programs, the long-haired variety established itself as a distinct and cherished branch of the German Shepherd breed. How big do long-haired German Shepherds get? Long-haired German Shepherds are structurally the same as short-haired German Shepherds, therefore they can both grow to similar sizes. Males: inches tall, pounds Females: inches tall, pounds Since both German Shepherds are physiologically the same, they also have the same temperaments: loyal, intelligent, energetic, courageous and protective. German Shepherds are ranked 2 on the AKC Breed Popularity list and make for wonderful family companions and working dogs. How can I identify a long-haired German Shepherd puppy? In the photo below are two litter mates from a recent Nadelhaus litter. The puppy on the left is a long coat and the puppy on the right is a normal coat. The long coat has wispier hair on the chest, back, face, tail, and on the backside of its legs. Long-hair female German Shepherd next to short-hair male German Shepherd. Genetically in German Shepherds, the short hair gene is dominant and the long hair gene is recessive. This means if two short-haired German Shepherds are mated, but neither carries the recessive long hair gene, then no long haired puppies can be produced. However, if two short-haired German Shepherds are mated and both carry the recessive gene, then long-haired German Shepherd puppies can be produced. Long-haired German Shepherds are considered a less common variant of the breed, adding to their allure and exclusivity. While short-haired German Shepherds dominate the breed standard, enthusiasts of long-haired Shepherds appreciate their unique beauty and elegant appearance. Due to their rarity, finding a reputable breeder or rescue organization specializing in long-haired German Shepherds may require some research and patience. However, the joy of owning one of these beautiful dogs is well worth the effort for those who appreciate their longer coats and exceptional qualities. Do long-haired German Shepherds shed more than short-haired German Shepherds? No, this is a common misconception. Although they shed less than short haired German Shepherds, their coats still require regular maintenance. They will need regular brushing and grooming, especially if you enjoy hiking or outdoor activities with your GSD. While it is a rare occurrence for a long-haired GSD to not have an undercoat, most of them do have undercoats. And just like short-haired GSDs, their undercoats will shed more or less throughout the year depending on the season. Should I trim my long haired German Shepherd's coat? The decision to trim a long haired German Shepherd comes down to personal preference, but it is not a necessity. Trimming can help make for more manageable living around the house. If you choose to trim, you can trim around the backs of the ears, on the back of the legs both front and back and then thin the bushy tail. Shaving a German Shepherd on the other hand is never recommended. Their double coats help keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer. What are long haired German Shepherds called? Regular brushing: Long-haired German Shepherds require regular brushing to prevent matting and tangles. Aim for at least a few brushing sessions per week to keep their coat in good condition. Finish your brushing session with a gentle dog brush to clean up loose hairs. Bathing and drying: It's important to bathe your long-haired German Shepherd as needed, using a dog-specific shampoo. Be sure to thoroughly rinse out all the shampoo to prevent any residue. After bathing, use a high-velocity dryer or a cool air dryer to dry their coat thoroughly, as moisture trapped in the fur can lead to skin issues. Professional grooming: Consider taking your long-haired German Shepherd to a professional groomer for occasional trimming and coat maintenance. A groomer can help keep the fur around sensitive areas, such as the paws and ears, tidy and reduce the chances of matting. Watch for seasonal shedding: Like all German Shepherds, long-haired ones will undergo shedding seasons. Be prepared for increased shedding during these times and brush your dog more frequently to remove loose hair. A de-shedding tool can be helpful in managing shedding and keeping their coat healthy. Remember, each dog is unique, and the specific care requirements may vary. Does Nadelhaus sell long haired German Shepherd puppies? Long Haired German Shepherd Adults For most people it's probably fairly easy to determine what a long coat German Shepherd is - it simply refers to the length of their fur. Whilst a "standard" German Shepherd will traditionally have short fur, long coats are the result of a recessive gene that any dog can carry. It doesn't mean long coats have any problems - far from it, and for many people they are an even more desirable dog than the standard breed German Shepherd. Long haired German Shepherds look incredibly handsome, and if you're happy with the additional effort required in grooming them and keeping their hair in good condition then they're as loyal and obedient as any other German Shepherd. With our private courier service, we can safely deliver your puppy to all fifty states with utmost love and care. More information here on the long-coat puppies we currently have available for sale. What is their Temperament Like? There is no discernible difference between the temperament of a long coat German Shepherd and a normal short coat dog. For a long time they've been unfairly labeled as being difficult, but sadly this really stems from them not being accepted due to falling outside the normal breeding standard. The Long haired German Shepherds we've raised here at our top breeding facility in Illinois. Our specialized trained dogs have gone on to be used as search dogs, rescue dogs, police dogs, service dogs and therapy dogs. There's no reason long coats can't perform as well or better than short coats since they do look quite incredible at the same time! Whilst a long coat can be a far more desirable dog for some people, when it comes to price they can actually work out around the same price, or even cheaper, than a standard or "normal coat" German Shepherd. The dogs we breed and train here at Regis Regal come from some of the best bloodlines in the world. While spearheading the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia breeding program, he conducted the crossbreeding of a standard poodle and Labrador retriever in view of it being a hypoallergenic guide dog for blind people. The first example of this type of dog, called Sultan, went to live with a lady in Hawaii, where other breeders saw him as an inspiration and this is how Australian Labradoodle puppies started. Both the International Australian Labradoodles Association and the Australian Labradoodles Association of America are working hard to incorporate more intergenerational breeding so these dog breeders can register this type of dog as a purebred dog. Its gentle, obedient and intelligent personality combined with a hypoallergenic coat make it ideal for family members with allergies, but it also makes an excellent service or therapy dog. Labradoodle Puppies Lifespan When properly taken care of, healthy dogs tend to live anywhere from 10 to 13 years. During puppyhood, their minds are highly impressionable, which is ideal for training. During their senior years, Labradoodles are more susceptible to health problems, which means owners need to keep a watchful eye. Labradoodle Size The size of labradoodle puppies for sale directly relates to the size of their parents and which generation of breed Labradoodle breeders chose. The larger the puppies, the larger the adult dog will be, and the faster their growth will be coming out of the puppy stage. A standard labradoodle puppy will weigh from pounds by the time it reaches two months of age. By a year old, it will have grown dramatically to up to 80 pounds, depending on the size of its parents. Medium Labradoodles occupy a spectrum of sizes between standard and mini Labradoodles, with the specifics depending heavily on the details of the breeding pair that birthed them and the breeding program they come from. Labradoodle Puppies Temperament While Labradoodle breeders originally bred the Australian Labradoodles as therapy dogs, their fun, friendly personalities made them popular pets. Now you can find these sociable dogs in homes across the globe. Here are some of the top personality traits of our Labradoodle puppies for sale. They tend to do best in active households where they can work off all that pent-up energy. You can fulfill their needs through the following activities: Walks or jogs: Labradoodles make great walking companions and can even keep up with you during a jog. Playing in the yard: Enjoy a game of fetch with your furry friend in the yard or just let it loose on its own. Dog sports: If you stay active through sports, consider making your labradoodle a part of your routine. Bring it on bike rides, go for a run together or kick a ball around in the yard. Obstacle courses: Set up an obstacle course for your dog using household items. Scavenger hunt: Creating a scavenger hunt for your canine is a great way to exercise its body and brain. In general, Labradoodles need anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes of exercise a day. You can also enroll them later at a Labradoodle puppy alumni school for proper training. Friendliness What makes Labradoodles the perfect puppy compare to other dog breeds is their ability to get along with just about anyone. They inherit this trait from their Labrador retriever parent, a breed also known for its outgoing nature. You can trust your labradoodle to form friendships with everyone, from children and older adults to strangers and other puppies. Thanks to their affectionate, sociable personalities, Labradoodles make great pets for first-time owners, families, or anyone looking for a companion. Intelligence Thanks to their poodle parent breeds, Labradoodles are incredibly intelligent dogs. Because Labradoodles are intelligent, they often crave mental stimulation. Labradoodle Puppies Grooming Our Labradoodle puppies for sale have a variety of coat textures that dog owners enjoy, but in general, their low shedding coat needs brushing at least twice a week. Not only does this keep them tangle-free but it also removes excess debris from their coat, keeping them fresh and hygienic. Regularly trim the hair around their eyes and in between their paws to prevent these problem areas from causing irritation. Pooches with fleece coats tend to have longer fur and benefit the most from going to a professional groomer — although every dog loves getting pampered once in a while. what size harness for french bulldog puppy - Video of Pug Mixed with English bulldog Puppies Temperament Dependable and affectionate, playful and fun-loving, just like its parents, the Pug mixed with English Bulldog is a great family pet, loving to be in the company of its near and dear ones. However, they are not clingy and can even spend a considerable amount of time without your attention. They are perfect couch companions just as their parents because of their relaxed and laidback nature. Having a gentle demeanor, they are a perfect pet for homes with small children, mingling playfully with the little ones. They would also get along well with other canines mainly when brought up together, though the company of strange dogs could make them wary and shy. They might be extremely friendly to any unknown person like their Pug parent, or a little cautious at first and then amicable or ignorant as the Bulldog. Care Exercise Because of their calm and laid back nature, their exercise needs are not too high, sufficing with a minute walk on a daily, alongside ample playtime. When indoors, you could divert its attention and keep it engaged by giving it a toy or puzzle to solve. Grooming Being an average shedder, they need to be brushed daily or once in every alternate day to remove the dead or loose hair. Brushing its teeth on a routine basis would help in controlling plaque buildup. Health Problems The English bulldog and Pug mix are likely to inherit the health issues of their parents like hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, skin ailments, yeast infection, and eye problems. If it has a long snout like the Pug, then it can suffer from respiratory disorders. Training The English Bulldog Pug mix could be stubborn and strong-willed like its English bulldog and Pug parents, thus needing firm and tactful handling. However, since they are a product of two of the most intelligent breeds, training would not be too much of a problem once you have a grip on them. Obedience training is a must to keep their stubborn nature under control. Feeding Feed your Bull Pug with good quality dry dog food. You can also include a homemade diet simultaneously that can have cooked vegetables such as asparagus, spinach, carrots and sweet potatoes as well as fruits like apples, bananas, cantaloupe, and mangoes. However, make sure you remove the pit and seeds. Protein like meat and cheese could also be added. However, all these should be given in moderation and not before you consult your veterinarian. Also known as the Bull Pug, this medium-sized dog has a stocky and muscular build that is brought about by crossbreeding. Oftentimes, it is referred to as a miniature Bulldog because it is the spitting image of its parent. Note that this is just a nickname. This Pug Bulldog mix is the offspring of two popular dog breeds. You may be familiar with the English Bulldog and Pug because they are unique in terms of their physical appearance. English Bulldog History You probably know the English Bulldog as it is quite remarkable because of its wrinkled face. This medium-sized Mastiff-type dog traces its roots back to England, as its name suggests. Originally bred for bull-baiting in the s, the naturally nice English Bulldog was forced to be aggressive to fit this extreme sport. In bull-baiting, a dog is pitted against a bull inside a ring. After the ban of this sport in , breeders changed their attitude towards this breed and started to care for English Bulldogs so they may be good canine companions. Fast forward to the present, the English Bulldog is now known as a sweet and dependable dog great for families and children. Gone is its former aggressive reputation. Pug History The Pug is just as remarkable as the English Bulldog because of its similarly wrinkled face and sociable and charming temperament. Known as the pampered pets of Chinese rulers, the Pug breed was brought to Europe in the sixteenth century. This breed was equally treasured by nobles throughout the Western continent. It was popularly bred with one goal: to be a companion dog. To date, it is still a popular companion dog as it was centuries before. One thing is for sure, though. Putting together its two parent breeds was intentional, thus making it a designer breed. The English Bulldog and Pug were so popular that breeders wanted to have the characteristics of both breeds in one canine. The result of this crossbreeding is a playful companion dog with a wrinkled face which is known as the Pug English Bulldog mix. Some breeders and dog owners also wanted to have an English Bulldog that is smaller in size. One way for breeders to develop smaller versions of purebred dogs is to mix them with a smaller breed. Other examples of this crossbreeding practice are the miniature Rottweiler and the miniature Collie. Many names have been given to this hybrid like the mini Bulldog and Bull Pug and they are recognized by canine organizations like the American Canine Hybrid Club and Designer Breed Registry. As I mentioned earlier, the English Bulldog Pug mix is sometimes called a mini Bulldog and one look at this pup will tell you why. Most Bull Pugs come with a round head, broad shoulders, and a muscular and stocky body like that of their parents. In terms of its face, it has the signature wrinkles of both parents, a medium muzzle, and eyes that are black and shaped like almonds. It falls under the brachycephalic breed group which means that because of its skull, it will have a flat face and squished nose. This mix may even come with an underbite! The English Bulldog is medium-sized, typically 14 to 15 inches in height, while the Pug is around 10 to 13 inches. Putting these two together will give an offspring smaller than a regular Bulldog but bigger than a Pug. Your English Bulldog Pug mix may grow as tall as 10 to 14 inches and as heavy as 20 to 45 pounds. It does not need much space to move around. For as long as you take it on walks, it is good to go. These are coat color traits they inherit from their parents. A litter of five to seven can have a mix of these coat types. Fawn is light tannish yellow that may manifest in a wide range of shades. Dogs with this coat color may have a light shade like pale tan, dark shade like deep deer-red, or other shades in between. There are crossbreeds with fawn coats that have black areas around their muzzles like that of Pugs. There are also Pug English Bulldog mixes that have black coats. Mixed dogs with black coats typically have a solid black color throughout the body. The usual patches of piebald Bull Pugs are white with a red or fawn backdrop. There are dog owners who use the term piebald to refer to two-toned or bi-colored coats. The crossbreed that inherits this coat from the English Bulldog parent has a colored base with a striped pattern that resembles tiger stripes. Usually, brindle coats come in color groups like black and fawn, white and red, and other combinations. Both parent breeds of the English Bulldog Pug mix are great for families, making their crossbreed offspring a perfect family dog. Playful, affectionate, and sweet best describe the English Bulldog Pug mix as it enjoys being in the company of its loved ones. If you are a dog owner of this crossbreed, expect to have a loyal companion who loves having you around. In fact, it can go on without getting any attention from you for a certain period of time. If you have a laidback and sedentary lifestyle, this pup is for you because it does not move around so much. While it can get playful and energetic especially during playtime, this dog also enjoys chilling on the couch with its fur parents. Take a look at this video of a Bull Pug playing calmly with a bug: English Bull Dog Pug mix playing with Bug When it comes to children, this mix is also a good choice. Its English Bulldog parent has a reputation for being aggressive. However, this is just a misconception due to its bull-baiting history. The truth is that the English Bulldog is sweet-natured and gets along with kids. The Pug breed is also sociable which makes their mixed pup good with the little ones. Aside from kids, the English Bulldog Pug mix also enjoys mingling with other dogs. To ensure that your dog will be as friendly, start introducing other people and dogs even at a young age. Early socialization can help them turn into nice-mannered dogs. This pup may need a little bit of time for adjustment, though, when meeting strangers. Its parent breeds handle stranger dogs and humans differently. The English Bulldog may be wary of strangers and exercises caution when being approached. Quite the contrary, the Pug is friendly, sometimes to an extreme level. How your pup will react will depend on its training and the inherited temperament. Your crossbreed pup may get more temperament traits from either of its parents, but rest assured, you will get a pleasant-tempered pup that is a perfect addition to your family. To give you a peek of what an English Bulldog Pug mix is like, here is a video compilation done by a fur parent. English Bulldog Pug Mix Lifespan and Health Issues As fur parents, we all want our beloved pooches to live healthy lives and spend more years with us so we should be well-aware of the health risks that come with their breed. Several health issues concern the English Bulldog and Pug which their crossbred offspring might inherit. Most conditions are related to the respiratory system, bones and joints, and skin. The result is a pain in the limbs which may cause your dog to start limping. Patellar Luxation: Another orthopedic issue, patellar luxation concerns the patella or kneecap. Dogs with patellar luxation experience discomfort in their knees and in some cases, loss of function. This is because during knee-flexing, the patella rides outside the femoral groove. Brachycephaly Airway Obstructive Syndrome: The Brachycephaly Airway Obstructive Syndrome is a common health problem in brachycephalic or short-nosed dogs. Both parents of this mix have this flattened skull so they are prone to this. Symptoms include difficulty in breathing, vomiting, and loud snoring. Pug Dog Encephalitis: The neurological disease called Pug Dog Encephalitis happens when brain tissues are inflamed causing pups to experience seizures, behavioral changes, disorientation, and more. This usually hits Pugs that are two to three years of age but may also occur as early as six months or as late as seven years old. No known cause has been found for this kind of encephalitis. Cherry Eye: Dogs have a third eyelid called the nictitating membrane. Diabetes: Diabetes is a common problem in dogs, but there are more incidents in Pugs. Because diabetic dogs are unable to regulate sugars in their bodies, they need insulin shots to help them do so. Canine Atopy: Getting allergies is common to Pugs and in some cases, they have a hypersensitivity reaction when exposed to allergens called canine atopy. Affected areas are usually the paws, abdomen, face, ears, chest, armpits, and flanks. Basic needs for canines are food, shelter, grooming, and training. However, these needs vary from one breed to another. What the Chihuahua needs may not exactly be the same as what your English Bulldog Pug mix needs. Knowing what your pup needs allows you to give it the best care possible. Feeding and Diet To ensure that you have a healthy pup, only give good quality dry dog food to your Pug Bulldog mix. On a daily basis, this crossbreed needs about calories to be served in two split meals. You may also consider giving homemade food. Cooked vegetables like spinach, carrots, asparagus, and sweet potatoes are good for your crossbreed dog. You may also give fruits like bananas, apples, and mangoes. Always remember to remove pits and seeds before serving. Besides giving your English Bulldog Pug mix the right kind of food, you should also monitor its food intake. Both parents are prone to obesity. While a chubby pup looks very cute, it is not healthy and may lead to many problems and complications. If you are starting to notice that your pup is getting underweight or overweight, consult your vet to get a diet recommendation. Cleaning and Grooming Short coats can be seen in both the English Bulldog and Pug and the same for their crossbreed pup. Use a soft brush to keep the coat beautiful and healthy and to avoid hurting your dog. Aside from its coat, you should also pay attention to the wrinkles on its face and body. Bacteria may start to build up when left unclean so be sure to wipe and bathe when necessary. This is also to avoid infections and allergies which they may be prone to. On top of that, regularly trim the nails and clean the eyes and ears. Brushing is also important and should be added to your grooming routine. Doing all these will help prevent infections and keep your dog healthy and happy. Training and Exercise English Bulldog Pug mixes are laidback and chill. If you do not enjoy too much physical activity, this crossbreed is for you because its exercise needs are not too high. A minute walk is already enough for this mixed breed plus enough playtime and bonding. Early morning and evening are said to be the best time for walks and exercise. Remember that both parent breeds are brachycephalic which means their offspring will be too. They cannot handle heat well and are prone to overheating. When walking, ensure that you have drinking water ready. In terms of trainability, this mix can learn tricks and commands. However, you need to have patience during training as it can get a little too stubborn. This is probably a trait inherited from its parents. Be firm when you train your pup but also not too strict. Have fun and consider training as bonding time. Do you know that the secret to successful training is positive reinforcement? Dogs listen and obey more when they are rewarded for good behavior. Prepare those treats for your training time! There may also be more expensive ones especially when you buy from a reputable breeder. Factors that may affect cost include size, health, breeder reputation, and lineage. There are also mixes from champion bloodlines but prepare to shell more. When choosing a breeder to buy a mixed pup from, consider a lot of things such as the affiliation of your breeder. Puppy mills are everywhere and they have poor practices and little care for their dogs, thus, low prices. Avoid them as much as possible. Caring for a pup entails other expenses aside from the cost of the dog itself. Prepare for one-time costs such as a leash, harness or collar, bed, toys, and the like. You also have regular expenses such as food, treats, and grooming items. For new pups, you have to spend for neutering or spaying, vaccinations, and deworming. However, they are also not highly common so you have to check the availability of this crossbreed: Greenfield Puppies — Fur parents have been trusting Greenfield Puppies since .They connect reputable breeders with interested soon-to-be owners and carry both purebred and mixed puppies. Check out these dogs that you may want to consider. Frug: The name may sound funny but the Frug is an actual crossbreed. Both crossbreeds share some physical characteristics and low exercise requirements. Puggle: A mix of the Pug and Beagle, the Puggle is a smart crossbreed that likes playing. It is also good for families because it gets along well with kids. Unlike the Bull Pug, the Puggle does not enjoy staying put and is highly active and energetic. Poxer: The Poxer is the offspring of a Pug and a Boxer. This medium-sized designed breed is charming and lively. Fit for those with active lifestyles, this crossbreed loves physical activities. Both parent breeds of this mix are brachycephalic which also makes this dog one. Puppies need something to chew on to reduce the discomforts that come with teething. Mixed dog breeds similar to Bull Pug A Bulldog is one of the most charming dog breeds to have. Aside from their signature wrinkled faces, they are smart and funny, more so when you start to hear them honk. This is perhaps the reason why breeders mix a Bulldog with an equally loveable purebred dog such as a Pug. Aside from a Pug and Bulldog Mix, here are some breeds that have similarities with a Bull Pug mixed dog. To begin, a Puggle is a product of two purebred dogs namely a Beagle and a Pug. A Beagle is an active dog breed that does not tolerate laziness. Instead, Beagles love to run and dig around which is the exact opposite of a Pug. Now if you mix a Puggle with an English Bulldog, the resulting breed is now called a Bull Puggle dog. The personality of an English Bulldog mixed with Puggle is affectionate and friendly to people of all ages. Since the English Bulldog Puggle carries the gene of a sporty Beagle, he may require a moderate exercise level. Taking him out for a long walk is advisable. Otherwise, he can get destructive if his pent-up energy is not used. Training a Puggle English Bulldog Mix can be challenging not because he has a low IQ but because of his stubborn personality. That said, early training is necessary, if not, he will establish himself as the alpha of the family. The active and intelligent nature of a Jack Russel Terrier combined with the laid-back and loving nature of a Pug produces a hybrid dog that is active yet possesses a gentle personality. As crossbreeds, the physical traits can be hard to predict but typically, most of them retain the looks of a Chihuahua with those erect ears but with a shorter muzzle and a wider jaw such as those of an English Bulldog. Also read: Chihuahua with Floppy Ears? The appearance primarily depends on which parent has a more dominant gene, but generally, Bullmation looks like a Bulldog with dark or light spots on its coat. This pooch is a social butterfly and loves to be around people and other animals. Bully Basset Fortunately, this hybrid dog is not a bully at all, rather he has a sweet and gentle personality, making him a good family pet. Each one of them has its positive and annoying traits that can make you either love or dislike them, and a Pug mixed with Bulldog is no exception. In a nutshell, here are some of the positive and negative traits of a Bulldog and Pug Mix that may help you decide if you are willing to share your life with this adorable mixed dog. Frug Description The Frenchie Pug is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the French Bulldog and the Pug. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. Their mother is a brindle French Bulldog and their father is a fawn Pug. He enjoys play dates with his best friend Ginger who is a Corgi. They play for hours chasing playing tug of war and wrestling. Banx is a cuddler, and loves being by my side. What a gift, a true blessing. He was the best birthday present for me. He also thinks he is a guard dog, but warms up very quickly to the guests; he will even sneak a kiss in if he can. He loves to go rollerblading and running like a wild man with other dogs in the park, but his favorite things to do are eat and sleep. When he passes out, he snores very loudly, and there's no waking him up. She is very devoted, and hasn't got a drop of aggression in her. Very balanced dog. Very clever too. This dog strongly attaches to people, is very well-mannered, and has a sensitive nature. It is a breed that does not do well when left alone for long periods of time. The Bull-Pug relishes attention from its owner but also has a willful side. Bulldogs are known for being strong-willed, so you need to begin training as a puppy — and the best type of training for this breed is using positive reinforcement. As long as you maintain a firm and gentle hand in training, your Bull-Pug should learn quickly. Discover more about our Bull-Pug puppies for sale below! Temperament Bull-Pugs have a lot of energy as puppies but calm down a lot as they get older. They can be messy eaters: they tend to slobber and even snore, but these are traits that bulldog owners usually find endearing. The Bull-Pug will make a great family pet as they are wonderful with children and do well in apartments since they only have a moderate need for exercise. See store for details on a particular puppy. American Canine Hybrid Club. This cute crossbreed resembles a bulldog, but is smaller and not as muscular, with similar facial features to a Pug, some people also mistake it for the French Bulldog or the Frenchie Pug. Sometimes referred to as a miniature bulldog, the english bulldog pug mix is a mix of bulldog and pug. It is affectionate, good with kids and not overly energetic. The Bulldog Pug mix has become popular among people who would like a smaller version of an English Bulldog, one that would be a better fit in an apartment or small home. What is the english bulldog pug mix? The English Bulldog was originally bred for bull-baiting, a sport that we now see as incredibly inhumane. After bull baiting was banned the English Bulldog almost became extinct. However, some fanciers of the breed were able to selectively breed Bulldogs into a docile, easy going companion. Today the English bulldog is the 5th most popular breed in the United states. They are medium sized, but very muscular with a short muzzle, short legs, drooping lips and wide-set eyes. They were especially treasured by Chinese royalty and were bred to be a companion dog. They are loving, charming, and a bit mischievous. Pugs are a small breed that are similar in appearance to the bulldog. They can have a number of different colored coats including the most popular fawn color. There are also black pugs , that are essentially the same as other pugs except for their coat color. The English Bulldog Pug mix can vary a bit as far as size, coat and temperament are concerned. This is because the pup might take after their Pug parent or their English Bulldog parent. Pugs usually stand between 10 and 13 inches tall. Bulldogs are a bit taller at 14 to 15 inches. Bulldog Pug mixes are usually between inches tall. Pugs typically weigh around 14 to 18 pounds while Bulldogs weigh as much as 50 pounds. The Bulldog Pug mix can usually weigh 20 to 45 pounds, however, they can be lighter or heavier depending on which parent they take after more. A Bulldog Pug mix will typically have a short, glossy, fine coat. Bulldogs have a single coat while most Pugs have a double coat. So, a Bulldog Pug mix could have either a single or a double coat. When it comes to the color of the coat, it can vary widely. Common colors include white, silver, black, red, brindle, fawn, and all colors can have patches of white. So grooming a English Bulldog Pug Mix can vary from dog to dog. Both the English Bulldog and the Pug are considered to be friendly, sociable breeds. As such, the BullPug can have a temperament that is a good mix of both. The English Bulldog Pug mix is docile, gentle and fairly laid back. They like nothing more than to lie around the house and nap. They are also considered to be people dogs. Overall they are a calm breed, and are friendly to strangers, house visitors and other pets. The English Bulldog Pug mix will do just fine in an apartment or small home. They are typically a small to medium sized dog with low energy, which makes them a perfect option for an apartment dweller. They do however still need to be walked daily, and given lots of attention if they are to thrive in any environment. A miniature Bulldog puppy can make a great family pet With his gentle and docile nature, the Bulldog Pug mix is typically great with kids. He might not be the type to play with the kids endlessly, but he should be fine getting pets and snuggles from the kids. Early positive experiences with children will help to ensure that he is great with kids. The BullPug is usually good with other dogs and pets. They have a low prey drive so they are unlikely to chase and torment your cat or other small pets. Socialization will help to ensure that the Bulldog Pug mix gets along well with everyone, including other dogs and pets. The English Bulldog Pug mix rarely barks, however, he will snore! Plus, you might want to get some earplugs for when he sleeps with you! While the BullPug typically will not demand a ton of attention he loves to be involved in the family activities. He will thrive best with plenty of attention. A Bulldog Pug mix is happiest when his family is around. The Bulldog Pug mix may not be the easiest dog in the world to train. The English Bulldog was originally bred for bull baiting. This task required him to think on his feet and take care of himself as people did not help the dogs with bull baiting tasks or otherwise direct the dogs on what to do. As such, Bulldogs are often labeled as stubborn. However, it is in their genes for them to simply not see the need to work with humans. In their past they never worked closely with humans, so why start now? The English Bulldog has a reputation as being difficult to train On the other hand, Pugs are usually pretty easy to train. Being bred as companion dogs, they take delight in pleasing their humans. Pugs can be sensitive in training and feelings can be hurt easily with harsh corrections. They are also sometimes prone to get bored with training. A Bulldog Pug mix could turn out like either of his parents when it comes to how easy he is to train. This will help him to understand what you do want him to do, rather than punishing him for bad behavior. It goes without saying that you should never use a choke chain, prong collar, or even a regular collar for training a BullPug. Eventhough he may pull a bit more, its better to have your BullPug on a leash attached to a harness, and not a collar. Even though this breed is very gentle and docile, socialization is still an important aspect of his training. You will want to expose him to as many positive experiences with people, dogs, other animals, and environments as possible. Socialization starts when the puppy is young while still at the breeders home and should continue for the life of the dog. The English Bulldog Pug mix requires little exercise, with a minute walk being all he needs. However, be careful when walking a BullPug. Their short nose makes it harder for them to breathe and harder for them to efficiently cool themselves. When walking in the summer, walk them early in the morning when it is cool. Always bring cool water for him on a walk as well. It can even be helpful to bring a spray bottle so you can squirt his body to help keep him cooler. This breed also does not do very well in cold weather. Be sure to provide him with a sweater when it is cold out. Walk him at the warmest part of the day in the winter. The BullPug will also requires mental stimulation, often above and beyond what his short walk will provide. However, he may not have much physical energy left. This is where things like treat-dispensing puzzle toys, stuffed Kongs, or a nice chew will come in handy. All of these things provide mental stimulation without too much physical work, plus, they can all be done in an air conditioned apartment! The English Bulldog Pug mix is not considered hypoallergenic, the coat of the BullPug is more like that of a Pug he may be a very heavy shedder. This shedding of hair, along with skin dander is likely to set off the allergies of any dog allergic person. The Bullpug also tends to drool a lot and dog saliva can be an allergen for some people, so it might not be the best choice of breed for people with pet allergies. Contrary to what a lot of people will tell you about mixed and designer dogs, they are not necessarily healthier than a purebred dog. Indeed a BullPug may suffer any of the genetic health issues of both parent breeds. The English Bulldog Pug mix can be prone to any of the following conditions: Eye problems, PDE Pug Dog Encephalitis , epilepsy, nerve degeneration, Hemi-vertebrae, Legg-Perthes, patellar luxation, reverse sneezing, hip dysplasia, skin problems, yeast infection, allergies, cardiovascular disease, sensitive skin, and cancer. In fact, the Bulldog has the highest incidents of cancer, when compared to any other breed. Before you get this breed, research all of the possible health problems look at symptoms, treatments, and, most of all, prevention. If you can prevent the problem with supplements, herbs, lifestyle, or food you should strive to do so. You could also look into how much the treatments would cost should your dog develop a health problem. Ask yourself if you could afford that? In addition, the breed, because of his short nose, is likely to have breathing issues and low tolerance to hot or humid weather. Always provide your BullPug with a cool spot to lay, shade, and cool water. If you see that your BullPugs tongue is loling out more than normal and has a bluish cast, immediately soak him in cool water. You can provide him with ice too. The English Bulldog Pug can be prone to obesity, so diet and the amount you feed your dog is of the utmost importance. The diet you choose can also be a very effective preventative medicine. There are several different types of food you can feed your BullPug. These foods could include kibble, canned, freeze-dried, home-cooked, and raw. The main thing you want to keep in mind when choosing a food is that it should be low or no carb and high in animal protein. When a dog eats carbohydrates that causes his pancreas to release insulin. The insulin then tells the cells to open up and store the carbohydrates as fat. So, limiting carbohydrates is very important for reducing the chances that your dog will become obese. Limiting carb is also great preventative medicine, as carbs can cause a lot of inflammation. Inflammation has been linked to all major diseases. You will want to seek out treats and chews that live up to that same standard of low-no carb and high in meat. Options may include dehydrated or freeze-dried treats that only contain meat. Even some boiled or baked meat can be a great option for a treat! It is often said that carrots, berries, apples, and bananas are great snacks for your dog. However, these treats are very high carbs and could cause weight gain in your BullPug. You can feed them these things on very rare occasions if you want to or just opt for meat treats. Again feeding high-meat food and treats is going to be way better for your dog than high-carb treats. Be aware, read the package. There are lots of foods and treats that claim to be good for dog, but if they are high carb, they will make your English Bulldog Pug mix gain weight. You can find an English Bulldog Pug mix from a variety of places such as shelters, breeders and rescues. However, some places are much better than others to buy a puppy, especially the BullPug. Poorly bred BullPugs are more prone to developing a myriad of health problems because they are bred with profit and not health in mind. This is why I recommend getting your English Bulldog Pug mix puppy from a breeder. But not just any breeder. You want a breeder that is passionate about producing healthy puppies with a good temperament. Especially asking about health. I would never recommend that you buy any puppy from a pet store or puppy mill. These poor creatures are bred for profit and nothing more. It is highly likely that their lives will be plagued by poor health and possibly a poor temperament. Your other option, and my personal recommendation is to rescue an English Bulldog Pug mix. You could do this through a rescue group or at your local shelter. Many rescue groups for purebred dogs will also rescue dogs that are mixed with their breed. You can check out the Pug rescue in your state or you could contact a Bulldog rescue in your state and ask if they have any BullPugs. Remember when adopting a rescue dog that he may come with baggage. This is not to scare you out of getting a rescue, it is simply a reminder that the dog was given up for a reason. If you have the extra time and money to dedicate to a rescue then go for it! You will have a happy and fulfilling relationship. Generally, they are docile, even-tempered and affectionate. They can be pounds and inches tall. They may have a single or double coat. The English Bulldog Pug mix is great with kids, other dogs, and other pets. This is especially true if they are well socialized early in life. They make gentle and affectionate playmates, though perhaps not overly enthusiastic about chasing or fetching. This breed can be a bit of a challenge to train. Be sure to use positive reinforcement for the best results. An English Bulldog Pug mix is perfectly content to lay on the couch all day. However, it is important to take them on a daily minute walk. The breed also needs mental stimulation so puzzle toys or stuffed Kongs are great ideas. Grooming an English Bulldog Pug mix is quite easy. A weekly-daily brushing is all he will need. However, you will have to keep an eye on his face folds. You will need to clean the facial folds when needed and be sure to keep them dry. Otherwise they may be a breeding ground for bacteria. The BullPug has the potential to get many health problems. Joint problems, eye problems, breathing problems, and skin problems to name a few. This is why getting your pup from a good breeder and implementing prevention strategies is so important. One of the best preventative measures you can take is to feed your English Bulldog Pug mix well. This means feeding a low-no carb diet that is high in animal protein. Even the smushed-faced BullPug is a carnivore and he will do best if he is fed like one. Finding a BullPug can be tricky. You could opt for a rescue or find yourself a good breeder that is breeding for health, temperament, and not profit! When you find your English Bulldog Pug mix, treat him well and he will be an affectionate and loving companion for all his life. And Are There Health Benefits? Indeed it seems that some prefer water to land. They can smell the lake, creek, or pool calling to them from a mile away! You mostly see dogs swimming on the surface of water, but can they dive and swim underwater? Can dogs swim under water? Fawn pugs are your typical pug that you will see out and about and tend to be more popular than the black pug. They originate in Germany and were bred to herd sheep. Testimonials "We wanted a sister for our 6 year old GSD, Katja, she had just lost her favorite kitty Tattoo, who was 33 years old. I then started researching GSD Breeders in our area. I researched them thoroughly. From the moment Bobbi and I spoke on the phone I knew this was the perfect fit, she sent us pics of her mom n dad and pics of Zasha. All of the parents history, health records, vet checks, AKC certification and verification. We called a handful breeders and met with a couple and were saddened and discouraged. She cared, she asked tons of questions, wanted us on speaker phone to get a feel of our family. You could tell her dogs and puppies were her family just as much as any human. Bobbie encouraged us to talk it over, call her back with any questions and we were welcome anytime for a visit. We did call back with questions and planned a visit the next Saturday as they live 3 hours from us. I have never been greeted into a strangers home so warmly. All her dogs are amazing, loving, smart, beautiful and tested. Justin brought his girl Kimber home and we remained in touch by sending photos, messages and her checking in. Fast forward 1. He said to me "Mom, come on - it's Bobbie! If she's home, I bet she'd love it" so I sent a quick message and immediately she said "yes! It was intended as a short visit but we were having a nice time and Kimber and our lab were having so much fun playing with her dogs that we took much of their afternoon. She had a 5 month old puppy that we all feel in love with for her goofiness and loving manner. Sounded as though all would be fine in time but Bobbie wouldn't take that chance in case she needed extra medical care in her future etc so she gave the person who had a deposit on this girl her pick of the litter instead. Over the next 4 months she was monitored and vet checked and released with a clean bill of health. We are a busy house with 2 of Bobbie's German Shepherds, a lab and a yorkie but always try to take moments to send Bobbie updates of their antics and spoiling. I can tell you in our hunt we did not come across anyone as dedicated, responsible, committed or loving with her dogs than Bobbie and we can't leave her children or Mike out - they too were there every visit and very engaged and supportive with the dogs. Much love, " - Michelle Evjen-Freed and family Bobbie is wonderful lady, who deeply cares about her dogs. All her dogs is absolutely stunning, well behaved. I'm mom of her 2 gorgeous German Shepherds. Bobbie is very honest and responsible breeder. I love Bobbie and highly recommend her!! Julia Goudie.
