The boxador dog is a crossbreed developed by mixing a purebred boxer and a purebred Labrador retriever. Although both parent breeds are officially recognized by the AKC, the boxer Lab mix has the status of a designer breed. Boxadors have several different names and are also known as laboxers, boxerlabs, and boxerdors. While some boxerlabs take more after one parent than the other, others are a perfect blend of both parent breeds. Generally speaking, most inherit a boxer-like frame but are sizably built like their Labrador retriever parents. Although their appearance is unpredictable, there are a few traits you can expect to see when it comes to size, coat, and color. Size Being a cross between a Labrador retriever and a boxer, boxerlabs tend to be medium to large size dogs. Most are between 23 and 25 inches high at the shoulder and can weigh anywhere from 50 to pounds when fully grown. And males tend to be larger than females. Color The Labrador retriever comes in three colors — yellow, chocolate , and black. On the other hand, the boxer also comes in three different colors — white, fawn, and brindle. Keeping this in mind, it comes as no surprise that the Lab boxer mix can come in many different coat colors. The most commonly seen colors in this mix are brown, black, brindle, and white. Coat While a Lab has a short, double water-resistant coat, the boxer is a short-haired breed with a smooth and silky single coat. Most laboxers inherit the short, silky, and smooth coat of their boxer parents; however, some can have a denser coat of a Labrador. Since your boxerlab will inherit character traits from both its parent breeds, you should meet both the Lab and the boxer parents. Since both boxers and Labrador retrievers are friendly, playful, loving, and devoted companions, chances are that their mix will be too. Although boxer Labs can act as either of their parent breeds, they are generally extremely playful and energetic. Depending on how much your mix takes after its boxer parent, they might act goofy and cheerful most of the time. Boxerlabs form strong bonds with their people and do best in large families that have the time and energy to interact and play with them several times during the day. People-oriented and loving, this mix craves companionship and tends to develop separation anxiety when left alone a lot. If they are forced to stay home alone while you are at work, boxerlabs can easily become bored and destructive. Activity Level As an offspring of two very energetic working breeds, the laboxer is a very active dog with high exercise needs. Being such an active and athletic dog, your mix will need at least 30 minutes of exercise every day in addition to two walks. Activities such as running, hiking, swimming, or agility are all great ways to keep your pooch exercised and in excellent shape. Since boxerlabs love to play, games such as fetch, flyball, Frisbee, hide and seek, and tug-of-war are ideal ways to interact with your pooch and keep them entertained and exercised at the same time. Having a securely fenced backyard can be a big bonus when owning this mix. This way, you can keep your laboxer exercised and in great shape without leaving the comforts of your home. This mix craves companionship and is happiest when involved in all family activities. But, besides love and affection, you should also pay attention to: Exercise As mentioned previously, the lab boxer mix needs at least 30 minutes of vigorous activity every day. In addition to two regular daily walks, you should take your dog for a run, hike, or swim to burn excess energy and stay in good shape. Fun-loving, playful, and goofy, this mix loves games and will enjoy having a variety of interactive dog toys that will stimulate their curious mind. Games such as fetch or hide and seek are also a form of exercise that will also keep your pooch entertained and mentally stimulated. Intellectual Stimulation In addition to being highly energetic, laboxers are also intelligent dogs that can easily become bored without mental stimulation. If left to their own devices without interactive toys, your mix will chew and rifle through your belongings just to have some fun. And when you are at home, interact and play with your pooch as much as you can to stave off boredom and encourage good behavior. Companionship True to their parent breeds, boxadors are outgoing, people-loving, and easy-going dogs that form strong bonds with their owners and families. Bred to be loving companions, laboxers are delighted when they are involved in all family activities and are best suited for large families. This mix craves affection and company and can easily develop separation anxiety and other behavioral problems if left at home alone a lot. Ideally, a boxador dog should live in a large family where they will have company at all times. Grooming Most boxerlabs have short glossy coats that are easy to keep clean and are a fairly low-maintenance breed when it comes to grooming. Brushing your pooch once or twice a week is enough to remove loose hair and dander and keep their coat clean. In addition to regular brushing, you will also need to bathe your dog once every two months or as needed. Diet An ideal diet for a Lab boxer mix should be formulated for medium to large-sized breeds with high energy. Make sure the food you are feeding to your pooch is rich in protein and reinforced with all essential vitamins and minerals. Like their Labrador retriever parents, this mix has a tendency to gain weight easily and can become obese in no time. To prevent weight gain and all health problems associated with it, feed your dog two times a day and stick to a regular feeding schedule. Known Health Problems The boxerlab is considered a healthy breed, but they are predisposed to some of the same health problems that boxers and Labrador retrievers face. The most common health issues seen in this designer breed are: Hip and elbow dysplasia: Both boxers and Labrador retrievers are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, so boxerlabs can develop it too. Allergies: Like people, dogs can develop food or environmental allergies. Itching is the most common symptom associated with allergies. However, some dogs also exhibit respiratory problems and might cough, sneeze, wheeze, or have a runny discharge from their eyes or nose. Hypothyroidism: This is a relatively common endocrine problem in dogs caused by an underactive thyroid gland. Dogs suffering from hypothyroidism usually experience symptoms of lethargy, weight gain, and changes to the skin and coat. Life Expectancy The Labrador boxer mix has an average lifespan of 12 to 15 years. But, when cared for properly and taken to regular veterinary check ups, this mix can live longer. Highly intelligent and eager to please, most laboxers are fairly easy to house train, and learn basic obedience. Boxerlabs, like all other dogs, react the best to positive reinforcement training techniques and reward-based training. The idea behind this approach is to reward good behavior using treats or praise and to ignore bad behavior. This type of training has been proven to give the best results and is highly effective even if you are dealing with an extremely willful dog. Besides training, laboxers can also benefit from early socialization and should be exposed to many different people, situations, sounds, and sights from a young age. Early socialization can help your laboxer puppy get used to other people and pets and grow into a friendly and well-rounded dog. Who Should Own A Boxador? Bred to be a loyal and devoted companion, the Lab boxer mix is best suited for active people and families with children. This friendly mix craves companionship and is best suited for large homes and families who can spend time and play with their dog every day. Buying A Boxer Lab Mix Puppy Spend some time researching reputable Lab boxer mix breeders before you decide to welcome a laboxer puppy into your home. Since this is a fairly new designer breed, be prepared to spend more time researching and tracking down a reputable breeder. Once you locate a breeder you like, schedule an appointment to meet the puppies and the mother and to inspect the facilities they are kept in. If by any chance the breeder refuses to show you the conditions the puppies are kept in, walk away and look for another breeder. A reputable breeder will be more than happy to answer all of your questions and will also be able to provide health certificates for both parents and all puppies. However, you may end up paying more, depending on the breeder, your location, lineage, and gender. However, unlike its boxer parent that might not be too friendly with strangers, it has a calmer disposition and would not bark unnecessarily, enjoying human company with an eagerness to please its owner, and with a separation anxiety out of sheer loyalty. Care Exercise Boxadors would constantly try to eat, and thus gaining weight like the labrador, for which reason, brisk exercise for at least an hour is a must, that might be divided into schedules daily. Grooming Already famous for their glossy coat, they rarely need a bath, unless too untidy. Health Problems Although a generally healthy breed, but however, because of their specific allergy to grains they might end up developing syndromes like dermatological irritations, diarrhea loose motion , stomach-licking or foot-licking etc. If kept alone for long periods of time, they might suffer from boredom or loneliness, affecting their psychological health. Training The overly-happy boxadors must be trained to socialize with people and pets and learn dog manners as a puppy, so that they would remain within the limits of sweetness in the family, knowing the rules to remain calm and balanced. Feeding Meat should be the first ingredient, better whole meat like chicken or turkey or red meat. Grains like oats, wheat, rice, barley etc. A high-quality dry dog food divided into two equal halves during lunch and dinner is recommended. Eating is in the genes of this breed. Hence, their food habits need to be monitored, especially when they are full-grown. Interesting Facts The gloss in the coat of the boxador comes from the natural oils present in their body hair. This dog has a tail that is either coiled, or else they are docked. The boxador is an active dog who's affectionate and loyal to her entire family. As a mix of two highly intelligent breeds , she has earned a reputation for being easy to train and eager to join any family adventure. But she also comes from two high-energy breeds and needs to be kept busy. As a hybrid dog , the boxador can vary in size depending on which parent breed she takes after the most. She will likely stand about 2 feet tall and weigh between 50—80 pounds. At her best, every inch of the boxador is filled with exuberance and love. She will need an active owner who can match her endless stamina, and she will be happiest when kept close to her people. Appearance The boxador is perpetually ready to play. Her toned, muscular body is frequently in motion, often chasing a ball or trying to start a friendly game of tug-of-war. Even if she has the longer snout of the Labrador retriever, she will likely still have droopy jowls. Because of this, she might be prone to drooling —especially when she gets excited. Both of her parent breeds are large dogs , so your boxador will grow up into a big bundle of energy. The boxador is expressive with her eyes and ears, often looking at you with a longing glance and perked up ears to tell you she's ready to go for a long walk. If she takes after her boxer side, her coat will be short and won't shed much. However, because a Labrador's coat can range from short to medium in length, a boxador will likely experience seasonal shedding. The boxador can come in a mix of colors, with the dominant shades being fawn, brown, black, or brindle. And while it's not guaranteed, the boxador often has a white patch on her chest and a muzzle of black fur. This means the mixed breed is ideal for many on-the-go families, as long as you make sure you have time to play with your boxador every day. Bored dogs are not good dogs because they're going to chew on belongings. They need families that are going to be active and keep them busy. She gets along incredibly well with children and other dogs, especially if she is well-socialized as a puppy. Boxadors are motivated by praise and affection, so owners should train her using positive reinforcement training and give her plenty of attention when she does something correctly. She will be highly motivated to learn different games alongside you. Both parent dogs are known for their intelligence and ability to communicate exactly what they need with their owners. So pay attention when your boxador is whining or nudging you—that probably means she needs to go outside or just wants some more playtime. You need to get them all kinds of games and activities. Take them on a jog or play fetch, all of that good stuff. She's not going to want to entertain herself in a fenced-in yard ; she wants you to play with her. While she is a well-tempered dog, the boxador should not be left at home for hours alone. If left by herself, the boxador can be prone to make her own entertainment think: chewing decorative pillows or pulling over houseplants to keep herself entertained. Loretta Moraco, a director at Chelsea's Hope Boxer Rescue that works with boxers and boxer mixes in the Northeast, says many people don't understand the energy level these dogs bring to a household. By training your boxador that her crate is a safe, comfortable space, she will feel more secure there whenever her owners do need to leave her alone for a short period of time. Crate training can also limit undesirable behavior that can happen when boxadors get bored. The boxer side is mischievous and curious, and you don't want them eating something they shouldn't when left alone. As a general rule, boxador owners should be prepared for a dog that wants to run and play 99 percent of the time. While there are some exceptions, boxador owners need to be ready to take their new pet on long, daily walks. She is exceptionally friendly thanks to her Labrador side, and she will thrive when socializing with other humans and dogs. They need doggy daycare and activities and games outside. They're literally like a toddler for a really long time, that's the best I can describe it. Keep them busy, and don't let them get bored. It's a good idea to get her used to regular teeth brushing as a puppy because her boxer side can be prone to dental issues. If she has face folds particularly around her mouth , you'll want to keep them clean with regular bathing in order to avoid any bacteria buildup. Health A healthy boxador can live between 10—12 years, but they are likely to experience health issues in their lifetime. Owners should consider investing in pet insurance if they bring home a boxador because both breeds are prone to certain health conditions that can become expensive in their older years. A boxador's health largely depends on what genetics she inherits from her parents and grandparents. The Labrador side often experiences elbow and hip dysplasia , according to the Labrador Retriever Club. These issues can be addressed with joint supplements recommended by your veterinarian. They can also experience certain heart disorders, as well as a condition called exercise-induced collapse. The boxer parent's genes can make boxadors predisposed to cancers that often impact the brain, thyroid, or spleen, according to the American Boxer Club. They can also be at risk for hereditary heart diseases , including arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy or Aortic Stenosis. They could experience discomfort with her hindquarters later in life if they inherit the boxer's predisposition to degenerative myelopathy. The popularity of boxer hybrids including the boxer-Lab mix in recent years has actually been, in part, an effort to mitigate some of the more heartbreaking health conditions that impact the purebred dogs. They are great with kids, smart, and goofy. And a lot of people who love the boxer breed are now looking for a hybrid dog because they are hoping it eliminates some of the health issues. While many boxadors live long and healthy lives, being aware of the potential health issues is the best way to ensure she is kept comfortable and happy. History As a hybrid dog, the boxador's origin is murky. Mixed breeds are not registered by the American Kennel Club, so their history is undocumented unlike purebred dogs whose history goes back for centuries. The most likely explanation for the boxador is that breeders sought to combine the best traits of the two beloved, active breeds. Especially for owners who worry about the health issues surrounding the boxer breed, the Labrador retriever—as the nation's most popular dog—makes an optimal pairing to offset some of the boxer's health risks. While the boxador's history is largely speculation, she comes from very famous parents. The Labrador retriever originated in Canada as a loyal waterfowl dog before gaining a reputation as a loving family dog. The boxer is the product of breeders in Germany and Belgium who wanted a strong hunting dog. Eventually, the boxer became a farming dog who enjoyed spending time with her family. Because the boxador can be prone to certain health issues, it's especially important that potential owners get health records for the dog they are adopting. If you are bringing home a puppy from a boxador breeder, take steps to avoid a puppy mill scam by working with individuals who are transparent about health screenings and allow you to meet the puppy on-site so you can ensure she was raised in a good home. Fun Facts While the boxer-Labrador retriever mix is most commonly referred to as a boxador, the dogs can also be called a boxerlab or Laboxer. In , the Labrador retriever was named the most popular dog breed for the 30th year in a row. The same year, the boxer was named the 14th most popular dog breed in the United States. The boxer lab mix, also known as the Boxador, is a hybrid of the Boxer and the Labrador Retriever breeds. Compared to its parent breeds, the Boxador mix itself is very new. But, its parents have long histories living and working alongside humans. Labs originated as working dogs, retrieving game for fishermen in Newfoundland, Canada. When they were first bred in 19th century Germany, Boxers were used as fighting dogs. Boxer Lab Mix Characteristics With cross breeds it is often hard to predict which parent a puppy will resemble. Boxers can weigh up to 80lbs and reach 25 inches tall. Labradors are similarly large. Boxador full grown tend to be between 23 and 25 inches tall and weigh up to 80lbs. Although females are smaller than males. Regardless of the mix of your genes your pup ends up with, your Boxer Lab Mix dog is likely to be a medium to large dog, active, loyal, easy to train and very fond of challenges — of both the physical and mental kind! Boxers are fawn or brindle. Often with white patches. Their offspring can be any mixture of these! The Boxador is usually brindle, and these dogs often have white markings. If you want a black Lab Boxer mix, your puppy will likely still have some white on them. Your best bet is to mix a black Lab with a dark Boxer. But, even a black Lab Boxer mix can have unpredictable coloring, despite the dominant genes for black fur. Do Boxer Lab Mixes Shed? When it comes to coat, the Boxer Lab mix usually takes after its Boxer parent. These pups typically have short, smooth hair that sheds very little and is easy to care for. However if your Boxador dog has more Labrador in its genes you might have to deal with some shedding. Thankfully this is usually seasonal and can be kept in check with regular grooming. Are Boxadors Hypoallergenic? The Boxer Lab mix might have a short coat, but it is likely to be a high shedder at least part of the time. They produce allergens in their dander and saliva, and are not suitable for dog allergy suffering owners. Boxador Temperament The Boxer Lab mix will fall somewhere between its parents. But, luckily, the Labrador and Boxer breeds have quite similar temperaments. Both Boxers and Labradors are very loving and loyal. They think nothing of climbing on their people for a cuddle, despite their large size! Both Boxers and Labradors are usually great with older children. They are considered gentle giants and will eagerly run after little ones. Although they have been known to accidentally bowl over smaller family members in their excitement. Labradors also love playing with canine companions, but Boxers are less reliable in this area. Poorly socialized Boxers can be prone to aggression towards strangers and other dogs. Boxers are instinctive guardians and proud to play the role of family protector. But you can reduce this through thorough socialization during the puppy stages and by meeting the Boxer parent and ensuring that they seem happy and confident around strangers. Even the most friendly breed, like the Labrador, will benefit. Finding them puppy friends to play with will encourage them to be calm and docile with other dogs when fully grown. Attending puppy classes is a great way to do this. But, make sure you also socialize them to unfamiliar people, children, cats, other animals, and more. This will ensure your Boxador dog is as friendly outside the home as he is inside. They require a lot of exercise and enjoy running around with the family or playing a game of fetch. This can result in unwanted behaviors like barking, digging, or chewing. But, be wary of a shorter snout in the Boxador. Boxers suffer from a conformity issue called brachycephaly, which can cause trouble breathing and overheating when exercising. Use positive reward techniques for best results. You could even take your mix to a puppy training class, or attend an online dog training class. Boxador Health and Care Genetic diversity is improved in a cross breed compared with the parent breeds and the coefficient of inbreeding COI is much lower. Put simply, the COI of any mating describes how closely related the parent dogs are. Higher COIs are associated with an increase in health problems. The risk of this happening is lower if the puppies parents are not closely related. There are however, some health issues that are not recessive and can be passed on from just one parent. And there are common ancestors in some of our dog breeds that mean some diseases are present in both breeds. For that reason it is still possible that a cross bred dog could inherit genetic health problems. Labrador Health Labradors are not without their issues. This breed can suffer from hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. It can cause lameness and severe arthritic pain. Another issue to be aware of in Labs is eye disease. Retinal dysplasia was first noted in the breed in .Progressive Retinal Atrophy is a degenerative eye disease that is common in Labs. Only buy your puppy from a breeder who health tests the parents for all the potential problems their respective breeds could suffer from. Boxer Health A study found that Boxers are one of the most likely breeds to get cancer. According to Petplan, mast cell tumors are the 5th most common illness in Boxers. This breed is unfortunately also associated with heart disease. Aortic Stenosis is the most common major problem in the breed. The causes are not known but it is genetic and passed along certain bloodlines. ARVC affects males more than females and is most common in dogs older than .Symptoms include coughing, difficulty breathing and weight loss. Boxers can also suffer from Canine Degenerative Myelopathy. This is a neurodegenerative disease that can cause paralysis. Unfortunately more is not necessarily better and brachycephaly causes breathing difficulties and overheating It may be that being the Boxador rather than a purebred Boxer offers some protection against these diseases. It certainly reduces the skull shortening we see in brachycephalic breeds. This is a bit of a two edged coin because while the Boxer physique may benefit from a longer muzzle, the Labrador physique is unlikely to be improved with a shorter one. Reputable breeders will only breed from dogs that have been tested and cleared of these serious hereditary health problems. To give your pup a long and healthy life, make sure he gets plenty of exercise, a balanced diet and regular vet check-ups. Boxador Life Expectancy Labrador Retrievers have a lifespan of years. And, on average, Boxers live around years So in theory you can expect Boxer Labrador mix puppies to reach anywhere between 9 and 12 years old. In practice studies tend to find that crossbred dogs in general, live longer on average than most purebred dogs. But we currently have no evidence that this is the case for the Boxador in particular. Only you can decide if the Boxer Lab mix is the right fit for your home. These are large dogs with big hearts that will give as much as they take. Boxadors love being part of a family. They are great with children and enthusiastic playmates for families with school age children and up. But this cross breed needs lots of exercise. They are fiercely attached to their people and dislike being left for long periods of time. This is a dog that suits a family with an active lifestyle and lots of love to give. Boxer Lab Mix Rescue Adopting a shelter dog always comes with risk. But Boxadors in shelters need homes and rescuing puppies or older dogs can be very rewarding. Labrador and Boxer breed rescues also sometimes have crossbreeds available. Dogs from adoption centers are usually much cheaper than puppies. But, remember you may need to spend lots of time helping them work through behavioral issues from past experiences. Finding Your Boxador Puppy Never buy a dog from a puppy mill or pet store. Or from the back of a vehicle. Always visit the puppy in his own home in the presence of his mother, who should be relaxed, healthy and friendly. Sadly with any very fashionable breed, or breed mix, there are many out there who are just looking to make a quick buck. Socialize your Boxador very thoroughly, exposing him to all kinds of fun experiences and making sure that he meets many different types of people, places, machinery etc. Given Boxadors intelligent nature and working history, get started on training your dog right away. Boxador Breeders It can be challenging to find a responsible breeder of cross breeds as there is currently quite a stigma against mixed breeding in the dog world. You must ask to see those certificates — they are very important. The parent dogs must have been screened for any genetic diseases and the breeder should be very forthcoming with any questions. Life Span Did You Know? The Boxador is a designer mixed dog breed that is a cross between a Boxer and a Labrador Retriever. They are sometimes also called a Boxer Lab Mix, although Boxador tends to be a more popular term. Because this is not an established purebred dog, the Boxador is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, but they are still recognized by other official organizations. With mixed breed puppies, you can get any combination of the physical characteristics and character traits of the parent breeds. A Boxador puppy could take completely after their Boxer parent or their Lab parent or could be some combination of both. In general, Boxadors tend to be intelligent, friendly, energetic, and loving. Overall, these dogs tend to make a great addition to a family. Both the Boxer and the Labrador are known for their happy-go-lucky, friendly temperament. They also have a playful spirit and are known for getting along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. In general, the Boxador tends to have a similar temperament. Playtime with small children should be supervised as these dogs will grow into large, energetic dogs and small children can be knocked over by their excitedly wagging tails and energetic play. They tend to be loyal, friendly, and playful and love spending time with their families. Due to the hunting instinct in the parent breeds, a Boxador may have a high prey drive and enjoy chasing things. Boxadors tend to be highly adaptable dogs. They do tend to be a better fit for larger homes with a fenced-in backyard where they can run. However, as long as they receive plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and attention, they can adapt well to apartment living. As with many dog breeds, they are sensitive to extreme heat and can be sensitive to cold. But, overall, this dog breed does well in just about any climate. They love to be around their families and have a high energy level, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Mixed dog breeds can inherit some, all, or none of the potential health issues present in their parent breeds. When it comes to the Boxador, they are a relatively healthy breed. Some of the potential health conditions to be aware of include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cataracts, and heart conditions. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parent breeds and to see any relevant health clearances can help allay potential concerns about health you may have. Both the Boxer and the Lab are highly intelligent dog breeds that are eager to please their owners, which makes them both highly trainable. You can expect your Boxador to be highly trainable as well. These dogs respond well to positive training techniques and are a good fit for owners of any experience level. Although it tends not to be necessary with this breed, enrolling in puppy training and obedience classes is an added bonus and can offer some extra opportunities for socialization. Boxadors usually have a short and dense coat. They will shed moderately year-round and more heavily twice a year as the seasons change. Generally, brushing their coat a few times a week is sufficient. This will help keep your dog more comfortable and will keep some of the loose fur contained to the brush instead of all of around your house. In terms of bathing, these dogs only require the occasional bath or more often as needed if they have gotten dirty or have been swimming. Dental care for dogs is especially important. Both of the parent breeds of this designer dog breed are high-energy, so you should expect your Boxador to have a high energy level as well. In addition to regular daily walks and playtime, your Boxador may enjoy running with you, going for a swim, going hiking with you, and taking trips to the dog park. They also are a good fit for several canine sports like dock diving, agility, and more. Their joints are still developing before this age and can be damaged by strenuous exercise. A fully-grown Boxador will usually stand 20 to 25 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh 55 to 80 pounds. A Boxador generally lives 10 to 14 years. Boxador Puppies for Sale.

Final Thoughts A 3 month old German Shepherd is still fluffy and cute, but it has changed a lot in comparison to its early days. It has become pretty tall, about one foot in height, with long paws and an extreme desire to chew something. Put away all your shoes, socks, or clothes because they may suffer badly from its teeth. Instead, buy entertaining chew toys and collect all your patience. You need to take proper care of your pup and keep its immense energy under control. So, you need to know how to train your German Shepherd for a happy and healthy future. This guide will help you learn more and let your ideal doggy live a long life full of positive experiences and adventures. If you have a boy, its height will be about inches cm. Girls are a bit lower at this age — they are about inches cm tall. You can also notice the increase in weight. The 3 month old German Shepherd weight can differ depending on several factors. Males can weigh pounds kg , while females weigh pounds kg. However, they can be even smaller if they belong to a working line. The gender difference becomes apparent at this age. The weight can also depend on the diet you feed your pup. The changes in appearance also include the teething stage. At this time, your pup has all its milk teeth, so adult teeth growth starts. It will last for a few months until all the puppy teeth will be replaced. You will notice one more dramatic change. It concerns the coat. Its fluffy and fuzzy nature will disappear because the adult fur starts growing. You will see a racing stripe on the back to show that the puppy coat has started to be replaced. Your pup still has floppy ears that can stand straight from time to time. Though, you need to understand that during this period, the ears will not stand up steadily because teething needs a lot of calcium, and the ear cartilage cannot harden properly. You will see a lot of improvements and a steadier ear position in a month or so. Remember not to pat your little one on the ears or head, or you may damage the cartilage. It will last until your puppy is 6 months old and is characterized by immense energy, curiosity, and getting into trouble here and there. That is why socialization and training are so important in this period. German Shepherd puppies at this age are very energetic. Though they look more grown-up than ever, their puppy nature always gets them into trouble, so you need to remain as patient as you can to train your little one the proper behavior. Your pup may jump at people and bite them. Praise it with a treat if it can abstain from doing that. Since your 3 month old German Shepherd puppy is full of energy, it needs a lot of exercise. Keep it busy all the time, but not make it do something heavy for a long time because it may have severe negative consequences on its health. Take it for walks as often as you can. A minute walk is enough. The distance your pup can walk is up to 6 miles 9. Moreover, your doggy needs a lot of other exercises. It can be a combination of playing fetch, running, and aerobic activities. You can make it play with a rubber toy or do some strength training. Once again, one-time sessions should not be very long. If you cannot take your pup outside for a walk because it is very cold, play with it inside. It can be playing with a puzzle toy or hiding something in the house and asking your dog to find it. If you have a car, you can take your puppy on a ride to provide it with more experience. Overexercising can lead to problems with joints, so you need to be very careful. The sleeping schedule of your puppy also changes a little at this age. It is approximately hours per day. It can also wake you up at night and require playing or going potty. It is normal at this age. The fastest sleep for it is before dawn. If you hesitate about how much your German Shepherd should sleep now, or whether it needs some sleep during the daytime, you can consult your vet. Health and Care Your 12 week old German Shepherd grows fast, and it looks healthy. However, you need to be aware of possible health issues at this age to be careful about. The first thing you have to keep in mind is weighing and measuring your doggy regularly. At this point, you should also provide it with the second set of vaccinations. It includes parvovirus, parainfluenza, hepatitis, and distemper. Keep to a healthy and nutritious diet. If you have any doubts about the possibility of hereditary health conditions, get a DNA test. It is especially important if you want to prevent degenerative myelopathy. Even if your pup is healthy and merry, you need to take care of it regularly. Healthy diets, frequent walks, and enough exercise are all indisputable components of good puppy care. Remember to groom and brush your doggy just twice per week. Changing the coat to an adult one will lead to excessive shedding. Try to help your pet get rid of the fur that is not needed anymore. You can even develop a specific schedule for grooming or make an appointment with a professional if you are not sure how to do it properly. That can be a regular playdate with your dog-loving friends and their pets. Or you can help your pup meet new friends when you are walking with it in the park. Potty walks are an essential part of care. A 3 month old GSD can hold its bladder for an hour or so. That is why you need to keep an eye on it and let it eliminate whenever it is needed without unnecessary inside accidents. Your little one needs only healthy nutrition to grow strong and intelligent. Be attentive about treats. Obesity can cause other health problems with the heart, kidneys, and joints. Develop a feeding schedule and try to stick to it. If the puppy leaves some food in the bowl, take it away. Never leave the leftovers in the bowl, or your puppy will come back to them later, and it will be impossible to establish a feeding schedule. That will lead to potty accidents and digestion issues. The diet has to be rich in protein, but be sure that it does not contain too much fat. The food should also contain phosphorus, calcium, and vitamins. You can use vitamin supplements meant for German Shepherd puppies, but never opt for those that are for humans or adult dogs. The schedule is very important for your pet. If you establish it at three feeding times per day, try to keep to it. Distribute the amount of food evenly throughout all meals. Never feed your doggy immediately before going to bed. Provide it with enough water. Fresh water is essential for puppies, so the bowl full has to be around all the time. You do not need to take it away. It starts understanding what is going on around it. So, it needs proper training at this age. It should also learn how to interact with other animals and people. Obedience training is essential at this time. Your puppy may not master all of them at once because its attention span is rather short, so be patient enough to repeat them again and again. Only after you see that your pet is confident about these commands, you may continue with more complicated ones. Never punish or beat your puppy if something does not go well. Positive reinforcement is always your priority. Never forget to praise your little dog and give it treats if it has done something well. Your doggy should also know how to deal with other dogs. If you have a friend with a dog, invite them to your place or pay a visit to them with your pup. Your doggy will feel more confident if it knows how to build trust and socialize with other living beings. Training is very important during this period. So, if you have not started doing it yet, begin your training sessions immediately. Your doggy should see a leader of the pack in you, so be as persistent and confident as possible. If you have some difficulties, it is better to seek the help of an expert. You should be prepared to spend a lot of time training your pup. It may not be so easy at first, but it is certain to be rewarding. The height of your puppy changes very quickly because its intensive growth continues. Research has shown that neutering dogs can affect their growth. But how exactly? But early indications show that early neutering can increase the length of time that the bone grows. Meaning potentially taller dogs. But this also poses questions about whether this affects the joint alignment and whether it can cause any problems. And for the German Shepherd breed and his heightened propensity for hip dysplasia, this is a concern to be aware of. But waiting for full skeletal maturity also poses risks. The weight of a male German Shepherd increases at a very high rate, about 1 kg 2 lbs per week, and thus at the age of 9 weeks, it would weigh 9 to 10 kg 18 — 20 lbs. As for the female counterpart, the weight is slightly smaller by 2 kg, or 4 lbs. At this point, both dog genders should be 12 to 15 inches in height. With that said, a puppy that weighs 3 to 4 kg 6 to 8 lbs less than expected is probably not fed correctly, the same goes for the other side. Training If you are wondering, you indeed can train such a young puppy, although it can learn much fewer tricks than an adult dog would. Mainly what you want to focus on is bite inhibition, as random biting is an extremely often problem throughout all individual German Shepherds. Other tricks may include: The give paw command. Quite easy to teach and simple to learn, especially for a German Shepherd. It would be a good idea to teach a puppy these tricks, as they may be necessary for further training in the future. Without it, the dog may be overly aggressive in the future. So be careful. It is obvious, that leaving a dog without care would be equal to abandoning it. So, it is fully up to you to feed, groom, heal and play with that German Shepherd of yours. On the bright side of things, the said puppy is much more independent than before and will help you care for itself. Pay attention! Analise that information and fix the diet if needed. Red German Shepherd Some slight weight loss may occur naturally in an old german shepherd. Older dogs may lose their sense of taste or smell and have less of an appetite than they did when young. However, there are certain breeds that are easier to train than others. Thankfully, German Shepherds fit into that category because they are very intelligent and quick learners. This includes house training , crate training , basic obedience commands as well as learning tricks. We recommend attending a puppy kindergarten class as part of your German Shepherd puppy socialization strategy. Once your pup knows their basic obedience commands, you can enroll them in Schutzhund training aka IPO. Partnership and teamwork between yourself and your dog are the basis for this type of training. Note that the Schutzhund environment is not a place for dogs with aggression issues, neither towards other dogs nor people! If they pass that initial level which includes a temperament test, they can move on to IPO 2 minimum age 19 months and IPO 3 minimum age 20 months. That said, protection dog trainers recommend starting training classes that include bitework and high jumps once your German Shepherd puppy is 12 months old. Dutch and Czech are two other languages that commands are frequently taught in. Stanley, my former long-haired GSD dog walking client, started going to Schutzhund training when he was a little over 12 months old. German Shepherds need a minimum of 2 hours of physical exercise per day, but generally speaking, the more exercise you can provide your GSD with, the more they will thrive. Remember, German Shepherds are high-energy, athletic dogs bred to be active all day long, especially if they come from a working line! Physical Exercise Ideas for German Shepherds As far as physical exercise, this can be a mix of walks, runs, bike rides, fetch and playtime. This is Nala, one of my former pet sitting clients. She was crazy about frisbees and balls. One of my favorite ways of increasing the energy and calories a dog burns on a regular walk or hike is by using a doggie backpack. Mental Stimulation for German Shepherds Besides providing a good physical workout, dog backpacks also burn mental energy. As you probably know, bored dogs can quickly become destructive as they figure out ways of entertaining themselves. For example, chewing up your furniture and shoes, scratching doors, raiding your kitchen trash can or digging up your flower beds. So do yourself a favor and make sure your GSD gets plenty of exercise on a daily basis. Remember, a tired dog is a good dog, and that applies to German Shepherds as much as it does to any other dog breed! Former GSD client Remi pooped after a long walk. Keeping that in mind, your GSD breeder should be able to give you a good general idea of how big your German Shepherd puppy will grow to be! Helps ease anxiety in their new home. We love using Bully Sticks to help divert these unwanted behaviors. Check out more of our favorites on our New Puppy Checklist. Barbara is a trilingual, something dog lover, e-book author, founder, copywriter, dog nutrition blogger and editor at K9sOverCoffee. Post navigation. When your German Shepherd is the ideal weight, you can feel their ribs, although they are not easily seen, and they are not covered in a layer of fat. There should be a defined waistline when your dog is viewed from above and a noticeable tummy tuck when they are viewed from the side. Underweight German Shepherds While German Shepherds are growing, they will be thinner and look gangly until they fill out in adulthood. It is sometimes recommended to keep your growing German Shepherd marginally underweight but not unhealthily thin while their joints grow and strengthen. Purina defines two levels of underweight: thin and slightly underweight. Thin: Ribs, hips, and spine are easily felt, and there is no fat covering the sides and back. There is noticeable muscle loss around shoulders and thighs, an overly pronounced waistline from the top view, and an overly pronounced tummy tuck from the side view. Slightly underweight: Ribs can be easily felt, hips and spine may be slightly visible if your German Shepherd has shorter hair, but there is no fat covering. There is an obvious waistline from above and a marked tummy tuck from the side. If your German Shepherd is underweight or thin, speak to your veterinarian. It could be that they are just growing quickly, often becoming lightly underweight after a growth spurt and then putting weight on until the next growth spurt. You may just need to change their food or feed them larger and more frequent meals. However, their low weight may indicate parasites or another underlying medical condition. Elderly German Shepherds can struggle with being underweight. This is why senior dog foods typically have a higher calorie count. Overweight German Shepherds It is important to prevent your German Shepherd from becoming overweight while they are growing. Extra weight on developing joints and muscles can cause problems. German Shepherds can also suffer from hip dysplasia, which is worsened by excess weight. Other excessive weight-related conditions include diabetes, pancreatitis, heart problems, respiratory problems, kidney disease, and arthritis. Related: German Shepherd Joint Problems: All You Need to Know Your German Shepherd is not likely to become overweight in the first 9 months of their lives because their growth rate easily matches their calorie intake. When your German Shepherd reaches 9 months, growth slows down significantly, and you may need to adjust their food quantities to account for this sudden reduction in calorie requirements. A helpful tip is to switch to low-calorie treats during this stage, especially considering training needs to intensify, and people often use treats for positive reinforcement incentives. And instead of switching to a calorie-restricted food or reducing the amount you feed your German Shepherd, speak to a veterinarian about switching from puppy food to adult food. Purina defines four levels of overweight: slightly overweight, markedly overweight, obese, and clinically obese. Slightly overweight: Ribs can be felt slightly, but there is an obvious layer of fat covering the ribcage and back. There is a slight waistline when viewed from the top, but it is not clear. There is a slight tummy tuck towards the hind legs when viewed from the side. Markedly overweight: Ribs are not easily felt, and there is an obvious layer of fat over the ribcage. There are fatty pads along the lower back and at the base of the tail, making the waistline absent when viewed from above. Obese: Ribs are difficult to feel because of the fatty layer covering them. There are significant fatty pads along the lower back and at the base of the tail, making the waistline absent when viewed from above. And the tummy bulges outward and sags slightly when viewed from the side. Clinically obese: Ribs cannot be felt under the fatty layer. There are significant fatty pads around the neck and legs, along the lower back, and at the base of the tail. The waistline is absent when viewed from above. The tummy significantly bulges and sags when viewed from the side. Miniature German Shepherds are much smaller and have completely different development requirements and problems. Final Thoughts The weight and growth charts provided in this article are designed to provide guidelines for the developmental milestones your puppy should be reaching in the first years of its life. Male German Shepherds are bigger and heavier than females, and from weeks old, these differences become apparent. Although males and females have different weight and height targets at each stage, they should hit the same percentages of their adult weight at the same age. If your puppy is slightly above or below the average weight or height at a given age, it does not mean that there is a problem. However, if your German Shepherd puppy starts to fall more and more behind, or if they miss other developmental milestones other than weight and height, it may indicate an underlying medical condition, and you will need to take your dog to see a veterinarian. Deficiencies in weight can compromise growth and the general condition of your German Shepherd, and excess weight can cause joint injury and other serious medical conditions. Keep all of these things in mind and be observant of your growing pup and how you approach feeding and training in accordance. By doing this, you will ensure that you have a happy, healthy, and well-adjusted German Shepherd for many years to come!

Evening Puppy Exercise Spend a good 10—20 minutes playing with your pup outside or inside a couple of times during the evening. Play a game of tug or get them interested in chasing a flirt pole. Not only will this tire them out, but it will also give them some important physical exercise. Evening Brain Games and Training Use the commercials during your evening television shows to practice some basic training cues with your puppy. Not only does this work their brains and take the edge off, but it builds your relationship with your puppy and promotes a solid training foundation. A puppy's attention span is pretty short, so keep training sessions short and sweet and spread them out throughout the day. Ditch the regular food bowl and use a puzzle feeder for your puppy's evening meal. Below are some of my favorite food puzzles and interactive feeders. They're fun for dogs and tricky enough to engage their brains, yet not so difficult that a dog will become frustrated and give up. I recommend starting with the West Paw Toppl featured below for your puppy's first interactive feeder , as the opening is wider than a Kong toy — making it easier to de-stuff and for you to stuff and then clean afterward! As your puppy is successful with easier stuffed toys, they can move up to more difficult puzzles! You can see my puppy Fozzie Bear going to town on his Toppl toy during crate acclimation in this video: West Paw Toppl Interactive Feeder Available at: Available at: Difflife Snuffle Mat This snuffle mat provides a variety of hiding spots for dry food or treats, encouraging your dog to use their nose to find their meal and helping to slow down eating. The repetitive nature of these things is self-soothing to your puppy much how activities like knitting are for us. The snuffle mat I recommended above is a great way to work their nose indoors, or you can scatter their food in the grass of your yard for them to sniff out. Freeze your puppy's meal in their Toppl to make it last longer or use a licking mat smeared with a tiny bit of peanut butter or wet food for a good lick session. Hyper Pet IQ Treat Lick Mat Spread a bit of your dog's wet food, peanut butter, pureed pumpkin, or low-fat greek yogurt on this mat to provide a soothing enrichment activity. Take your puppy out for a bathroom break as late as possible — ideally, the last person to bed should also take your pup to their potty spot. This helps empty them out, decreasing the chance of them needing to go in the middle of the night. Keep this last potty break calm and boring. You don't want your sleepy puppy finding their second wind! On this note, consider your puppy's evening mealtime. You don't want to feed your puppy too late in the evening that they need to go 2 in the middle of the night. However, if you feed them too early, they may be hungry at bedtime and that can make them restless. One way to prevent late-night hunger is to use food puzzles with small "snack-sized" portions of food as their pre-bedtime enrichment. When it comes to leaving water in your puppy's crate, I always recommend free access to water at all times. Water is a "primary resource" — meaning your puppy needs it to survive. And there are some medical conditions that require access to drinking water at all times. But, if your puppy is waking up continually during the night because they need to urinate, speak with your veterinarian to first rule out medical reasons such as a urinary tract infection and then discuss with them whether restricting access to water before and during the night is a good choice for your puppy. Keeping a puppy potty log can really help you determine your puppy's natural potty schedule, which can help you adjust feeding times to increase longer sleep time at night. Download our free potty log template. PRO TIP: It can be helpful to set an alarm for yourself during the night to wake up and take your puppy for a quick potty break. It's all about being proactive — with an alarm, your puppy won't wake up feeling like they're ready to burst and start whining or crying in their crate. As they mature, your alarm can be set later and later as they can physically hold it longer. For more tips on potty training, check out "How to Potty Train a Puppy. The transition from sleeping in close proximity skin-to-skin.The reviews and photos people have submitted for this product are absolutely heartwarming, you really should check them out. I like to believe that he found having a familiar scent paired with the heartbeat sound and heat pack very comforting as he learned to sleep in his crate. He certainly loved to cuddle with it, and even after he transitioned to sleeping outside of the crate once he was old enough, he still carried the Snuggle Puppy around to use as a pillow, as you can see in the inset photo. The Snuggle Puppy can last for years. Even when your dog doesn't need it at night, just take out the batteries and heating pack and your dog will still carry it around! Another important feature of the Snuggle Puppy is that it's washable just don't forget to remove the batteries first! Another Preventive Vet staff review: "Mary Berry was having a difficult time sleeping alone in her crate — our guess was that she was missing her mom and littermates. She slept so soundly with the Snuggle Puppy, we would bring it with us when visiting friends so she had a comfortable piece of home to rest with. I highly recommend the Snuggle Puppy to help your new puppy sleep through the night! If your dog's idea of "snuggling" this toy involves mouthing, chewing, or disemboweling, be sure to take the toy away from them. Batteries are very dangerous for dogs if they are swallowed. Soothing Scents for Your Puppy Using dog-appeasing pheromones also called DAP can help your puppy feel secure and calm, as these mimic the pheromones their mother emits during nursing. Pheromones work for many puppies, but not all. But there's no downside to trying it out with your pup, so it's something I regularly recommend. The Adaptil pheromone diffuser covers a large space and lasts for 30 days before needing a refill. You might even try a spritz from an Adaptil spray on bedding shortly before placing your puppy in their crate. Just one or two spritzes are all you need! Adaptil Pheromone Diffuser. Humphrey and his "Frenchie sib" Pota are already social media stars in their own right, with an Instagram account boasting over , followers. The pair live together with their owner out in San Francisco, California , and regularly update followers with videos of their day-to-day exploits. Being social media pups can take a lot out of you though, as this latest clip showing Humphrey catching some shut eye demonstrates. Posted under the handle spottedhumphrey, the on-screen caption read: "My dog sleeping like he just worked a double to meet this month's rent, cooked dinner for 4, and did the dishes. Watch it here. Writing alongside the clip, Humphrey's owner gushed over "the way he's smiling in his sleep like he's proud of everything he does for this family. A study published in the journal Scientific Reports dug a little deeper into dog sleeping habits. Over a two-week period, 42 healthy adult dogs were monitored to determine what their sleeping patterns looked like. What researchers found was that the dogs largely followed a pattern in terms of activity peaks. From 8 a. This would then be followed by a lull before a longer active period from 5 p. All of the dogs studied were significantly more active at the weekends too. Stock image of a French Bulldog fast asleep - footage of a snoring canine called Humphrey has left viewers in stitches. Further proof of that can be found in the snores Humphrey is emitting throughout the footage. Those snores, coupled with the fact the canine appears snuggled up in a blanket , sparked delight among the dog duo's followers who flocked to comment on the adorable and often hilarious footage. Hope he doesn't sleep in your bedroom," a third quipped while a fourth couldn't resist a pun, writing: "It's been a ruff day. He's having the best nap of his life! Read more. With the variety of adorable dog sleeping positions our fur-children settle into, who could blame you? Dogs get around hours of sleep a day. Puppies, around 1 hours. Common Dog Sleeping Positions Common dog sleeping positions vary from a tightly curled-up donut to a fully splayed-out sploot. Each position your pooch sleeps in is adorable, and each can tell you a little something about how they are feeling. The Burrower If your pup loves to retreat under blankets, pillows, and even fresh laundry for a nap, then your dog is a burrower. Dogs who love to burrow are seeking warmth, comfort, and safety. The Best Friends by Sheri burrow dog bed was specifically designed for dogs who love to burrow. The Cozy Cuddler bed comes with an attached blanket lined with soft faux fur your pup can cuddle under for a night of deep sleep. The Superman aka The Sploot, aka Frogging A splooter lays on its stomach with its front legs and back legs stretched out and flat. Made famous on the internet by corgis and bulldogs, any dog or cat can sleep in this position. A high-energy adult dog might do this mid-fetch for a little break as well. The Donut Donut sleepers curl up into a little ball for a snooze. This means they are regulating their body temperature while protecting their vital organs. Making themselves as small as possible in a donut position avoids leaving them vulnerable to potential predators. Naturally, donut-style sleepers love donut dog beds. The Calming Donut Dog Bed is designed for these types of sleepers who want to rest in a snug, warm, and comfy spot. This sleeping behavior indicates your dog is just getting started falling asleep, so he can wake easily. As sleep sets in, your doggie might roll over on his side for deeper rest. The Side Sleeper Dr. This sleeping position indicates that the dog is very relaxed and comfortable in his surroundings. Often, dogs dream and reach REM sleep in this pose. A nap mat dog bed is ideal for side sleepers. He could also be trying to cool off. The Cuddler Cuddling has to be one of the cutest dog sleeping patterns. Dogs who love to sleep next to you or cuddled up against another dog seek that sense of security and warmth they had as puppies with their mother. The deep crevices and soft vegan fur are there to mimic that feeling of protection during puppyhood. Plus memory foam-like fibers are great for older dogs or large dogs with joint problems. Dogs who settle into a cuddle position are getting their best sleep ever. Dogs do, of course, sleep a lot more than we do. Older dogs require more sleep just because they tire out more easily and, as a general rule, bigger breeds also spend more time dozing. It could be a sign of an underlying health condition. The following dog beds can accommodate any type of sleeper. This innovative cuddler shag design provides better sleep, supports joints, and offers a calming, self-warming effect. The donut cuddler is carefully crafted with durable, vegan nylon and filled with AirLoft fibers,….

Home of Kennel free living and lots of loving! Good Gracious Goldens was created in when I decided to follow in my mothers footsteps as she has been raising them for over 3o years. Recently we welcomed our 3rd child and decided it was time to split the work without compromising the experience for our adopting families. Now we are working along side Lone Oak Goldens, my dear friend Lori. This decision is not one we took lightly as our reputation is very important to us but I knew her care and expertise would only make us better! I could not imagine a more wonderful partner. She raises them in her home in NE and brings them to my home when they are ready as most of our adopting families are in Colorado including many repeat families! Now I can put all my focus in the communication I pride myself on quick replies , while Lori is loving on the puppies and socializing them getting them ready to meet you! And trust me when you see these puppies you'll see just how much love was poured into them!! I like to say us working together for you, is the truly best of both worlds! We love the English Cream and American Golden breed. We couldn't imagine a better way of life! Of course watching them grow up and thrive is amazing, but I would say my favorite part is seeing the families faces when they see their new family member. Thank you for taking the time to read about us! Our Philosophy! We believe dogs and puppies should be unconditionally loved and cared for as they truly become part of your family. When choosing the right puppy for your family, there are many choices out there. Some puppies are raised in undesirable conditions, this is incredibly heart breaking. Which is why we raise our Golden Retrievers with absolutely no kennels. We believe this makes us different from other breeders. As we are continually trying to improve our breeding program. Our reason for raising English Creme Golden Retrievers is because of our love for the breed and the joy our dogs have brought to our lives. We desire an extraordinary puppy for your family too. When you pick us, we have to pick you too, as we too are selective when choosing forever homes for our pups. Within the first 8 weeks of their lives we spend a lot of time helping them develop social skills and simply loving on them. We get to know each one of the puppies and are fully committed to helping you choose the puppy that is best for you and your family based on gender, temperament and color. We recently joined our breeding program with Lone Oak Goldens. Two families raising puppies together equals double the love! We want to thank you for taking the time to let us introduce you to our family dogs "Grace", "London","Ellie", "Viva", "Margo", "Cooper" and "Hudson" along with their sweet puppies! We look forward to meeting you soon! Sincerely, Libby and Lori. Contact us - Phone: or email: goldengirlskennels hotmail. Take a browse around our website and see what puppies we offer. Many of our health clearances, less than Golden Retrievers out of the hundreds of thousands registered with the AKC have been tested for. If we can gain knowledge to ensure we are breeding the best of the best through health clearances then we do it! We are committed to breeding healthy goldens! Country Pearls Golden Retrievers is a small, professional family breeder of English Cream Golden Retrievers raising one to two litters a year; we strive for excellence. Our farm is our own piece of heaven and is shared with our three wonderful children, farm animals and beloved dogs. We start our puppies out right with the puppy culture program. Our dogs are very much a part of our family and we would never raise or keep them in kennels. Our puppies are no different. They are raised as our own in our home until they go home to their new families. We like to know all about our Golden Retriever puppies future family and what activities they like to do so we can expose them to it, if possible, before they go home. By the time they are ready for their new families, they have already started to learn how to interact with children and are learning manners while interacting with their littermates and other qualified dogs. Our Goldens make wonderful family pets and many have gone on to be great therapy dogs. Our girls are treated like family and bred once a year at the most. We retire them at the age of 6 years old and they go on to live wonderful lives as family pets. They are always checked and cleared by our vet before they are bred. Our goal is to raise happy, healthy, smart puppies for great people. Dams and sires are also voluntarily genetically tested through Animal Genetics Inc. We strive to improve the English Cream Golden Retriever breed and provide families with healthy puppies with wonderful temperaments. We reserve the right to choose each puppy for the right family. They are raised in our kitchen in the center of our home. We socialize, train, bond with, and record their every moments and therefore we believe we are most suitable to choose a puppy for each home. We never let anyone come in and pick a puppy from our litters period. It would be a lot less work if we did, but we believe it is our job to match each puppy with their perfect family. They will steal your heart and give you many years of blessed memories. Breeders should never have anything to hide and should always make you feel comfortable knowing you are getting a wonderful puppy from a qualified non-puppy mill operation. We only have a couple dogs because we believe in making sure there is quality time for everyone, people included! From our family to yours, thank you for choosing Country Pearls Goldens! Attention puppy buyers!!! Responsible buyers only. And you know what, I agree…mostly. There are a lot of bad and irresponsible breeders out there. What is a bad and irresponsible breeder to me? I am not any of those. I breed to better the breed in health, conformation, and especially temperament. None of my puppies will ever sit in a shelter, rescue, or pound. My puppies are all microchipped before they leave my home and my contact information is permanently attached to them forever. My puppies will never stay there. Now, I believe irresponsible pet buyers are the real problem! If you are looking to buy a puppy from a breeder, a good, reputable breeder, you will never be able to just walk right in and buy a puppy with very few exceptions. Those bad breeders would be out of business very fast if bad buyers would quit supporting them. Those dogs are there at no fault of their own. They came from bad breeders who let bad buyers take a puppy. Not from a home like mine. If you are a new buyer and have questions, ask me. My friends will help you. But stop blaming the good breeders, the excellent breeders. Blame the ones who fork over the cash. Buy from and wait patiently for a puppy from a good, responsible breeder or adopt. The health of each litter is their top priority and that is why they are so detailed and thorough in their breeding program. Every Golden Retriever pup is raised on the farm in clean and comfortable kennels with enough rooms for the pups to run, play and call their own. They are allowed to socialize with each other as well as with other adults and kids of varying age groups. They are also exposed to a wide variety of experiences, including textures and sounds that could help them better in transitioning into their new families and environments. They are showered with love and well-fed with a high-quality feed. Every pup comes with a copy of their AKC papers, is well vaccinated, potty and crate trained , has their deworming records updated, and is thoroughly examined by a well-licensed and reputable vet. Origin Hybrid dogs have been in existence for many years, so the first crossing of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle may have occurred long ago. The breeder who claims to have been the first to intentionally breed Bernedoodles, however, is Sherry Rupke of SwissRidge Kennels. Rupke bred her first litter of two Bernedoodles in and has since developed a breeding program around this hybrid breed. It is possible to have a Bernedoodle with more or less than 50 percent of each parent breed in its heritage if a first-generation Bernedoodle is mated with either a Poodle or a Bernese Mountain Dog. These are recommended for those who want a Bernedoode with minimal shedding and are also better for those with more severe allergies to dander. This combination is called the F1 Bernedoodle, or a first-generation cross, and it is believed these puppies grow up to be much healthier than both of its parent breeds and will display the most desirable mix of traits. It is possible to have a Bernedoodle with more or less than 50 percent of each parent breed in its heritage if a first-generation Bernedoodle is mated with either a Poodle or a Bernese Mountain Dog. Discover more about our Bernedoodle puppies for sale below! The Bernedoodle is a strong, robust dog with a compact and powerful body. It has a bushy tail, long-hanging ears, a triangular muzzle and button eyes. Their coat comes in a variety of colors such as black, white, tan, brindle or a combination thereof. Even though these hybrid dogs have been around less than two decades, the breed is already very popular. Weight Because the Poodle comes in three different sizes, so does the Bernedoodle. A toy or a tiny Bernedoodle stands 12 to 17 inches tall and weighs 10 to 24 lbs. A mini Bernedoodle stands 18 to 22 inches tall and weighs 25 to 49 lbs. A standard Bernedoodle stands 23 to 29 inches tall and weighs 70 to 90 lbs. Bernedoodle Temperament and Behavior If you are looking for a smart and loyal dog that will be your companion for life, look no further than the Bernedoodle. These hybrid fluffy pooches combine the best of both worlds: the intelligence and low shedding coat of the Poodle, with the laid-back yet incredibly loyal nature of the Bernese. The Bernedoodle is a responsive and loving breed. They are intelligent, social, and good with children. These traits make the Bernedoodle easier to train and a good family dog. Bernedoodles have a relaxed temperament but a moderate energy level. Since the Bernedoodle is a combination of two different breeds, the puppies will have a combination of personality traits from each parent breed depending on the amount of each breed involved in the cross. It can even depend on the individual pooch — litter mates that have the same parents might turn out to favor different lineages, some leaning more towards their Poodle or Bernese roots than others. From the Bernese Mountain Dog side, Bernedoodles can be a little wary around strangers so early socialization is important. Toy and mini Bernedoodles also tend to be more energetic and stubborn than standard Bernedoodles. This also means that separation anxiety could end up being a problem for Bernedoodles in case they are not properly socialized. Bernedoodle Health For the most part, the Bernedoodle is a healthy breed. In fact, the creators behind this designer breed claim that elimination of health issues typical for the purebred dogs is what drove them to crossbreed dogs in the first place. However, in no scenario is it possible for someone to predict how healthy any dog will be throughout their lifetime: the best you can hope for is that a proper diet, plenty of exercise and regular visits to the vet will help keep your pooch healthy and happy. Life Expectancy The Bernedoodle is still considered a new breed still being perfected so there is not enough information about their lifespan. While there is no way to say with certainty how long Bernedoodles live, breeders estimate that the average life expectancy of a Bernedoodle is between 12 and 15 years. Of course, there are bound to be slight variations due to the difference in sizes, so a tiny Bernedoodle might live to be 17 years old, while the standard sized are closer to the shorter end of the range. Exercise Requirements The activity level of Bernedoodles varies depending on breeding, but they are typically a moderately active breed. They do love their outdoor adventures and will be more than happy to join you on a hike or your morning jog, but they do not need intensive exercise to stay healthy and happy. With that being said, the Bernedoodle can be a good choice for apartment dwellers provided they have enough space and are willing to take their pet on long walks and to the dog park. This means that Bernedoodles adapt to various lifestyles, including different activity levels. You could be letting them roam about in a securely fenced backyard and maybe play with another canine companion, arrange a visit to the dog park for a game of fetch or simply have a daily walk around the block. The smaller varieties — toy and mini Bernedoodles — tend to be more active than the larger varieties. In any case, a good daily walk should be enough to satisfy the exercise requirements of a Bernedoodle. A good idea is to offer puzzle toys and interactive toys, too. These will keep your pet entertained and offer a challenge for their smart minds. Bernedoodle Coat Bernedoodles come in any combination of white, black, and brown. It is also possible for Bernedoodles to be tricolor or sable — black, white and brown. This color combination is also the most difficult to achieve, and as such, the most desirable. Recently, some breeders have presented a merle Bernedoodle which displays a marbled white and gray pattern on a black coat. Puppies with this coat are very rare and usually the most expensive. Just as Bernedoodles come in different colors according to breeding, they also have different types of coats. Most Bernedoodles have long, wavy coats that shed minimally. Straight-coated Bernedoodles are less common and tend to shed more than wavy or curly-coated Bernedoodles. The goal with crossbreeding these two popular breeds was to create a perfect companion for families of all shapes and sizes. Bernedoodle Grooming The amount of shedding depends on the type of coat your dog has inherited from either parent. Those with a straighter type are prone to shed more, whereas if its coat is curly it will tend to shed less. Brushing somewhat regularly will help to prevent matting. Bernedoodle Training If bred well, the Bernedoodle should be an easily trainable dog because it inherits intelligence, eagerness to please, and a calm demeanor from its parents. As with other breeds, it is good to train and socialize your dog while still a puppy to avoid destructive and nuisance behavior later in life. During the puppy stage Bernedoodles can be a little headstrong, but this tends to lessen as the dog matures and receives training. It will make both of your lives so much easier in the long run. See store for details on a particular puppy. Dog Registry of America, Inc. International Designer Canine Registry. If you click and purchase, we may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. And thanks to their excellent temperaments, they also make perfect therapy and service dogs. Of course, we cannot forget that thanks to their Poodle heritage, these pups are well-known for being allergy-friendly dogs with their low-shedding coats. The perfect four-legged companion, we must say! For this reason, ethical breeders always conduct extensive health and genetic testing to rule out any hereditary illnesses that can be carried onto the offspring. Health warranties should always come in written form, and they typically cover the first one or two years from adoption. After all, breeders can claim whatever they want on their websites. If your a breeder do not use this site! Long story short I sold a puppy through them. Met all their criteria, got health certificate, everything required for shipping. The buyer broke the contract, refused the puppy at 3 am, so he was sent back to me. I had to isolate him from his siblings for 14 days, get him retested again to make sure he didn't pick up anything. Now since apparently they lost the case the buyer won and now they are saying since it was a credit card dispute I'm not getting compensated. Mind you the puppy spend 6 days being transported there and back, he was emotionally damaged. I had to rehabilitate him to know kennels and car rides were okay before he was placed in a new home. And I had to discount him because of the trauma he endored through this whole ordeal. Here's the crap part if I broke contract in anyway I would have had to pay all the penalties. And the buyer would have been compensated. These guys don't care about you or your program. Just don't do it! Go though someone else. Great breeder, friendly, clean and wonderful happy dogs! Coco loves his little brother and Jack loves him! Great experience! Besty Steinacker Highly recommend!! Highly recommend!! We bought our golden doodle at 3 months and he has changed our lives! He had been a great puppy since the day we got him. The sellers of Lenny was very friendly, very clean and took really good care of the puppies. Would highly recommend anyone to get there puppies from them! Oaklee is so sweet, loving and very smart. After 3 days I can say this is a perfect puppy for an 8 and 11 year old. Temperament is solid, no weakness. Color is rich. Genetic testing done by breeder. AKC registered. If you are looking for a puppy that is outgoing, sweet temperament, healthy and will blend in with family — this is the place to buy from. As a trainer, I can say I see too many Standard Poodles that are nervy, weak, bad health, over priced and not suitable to family environment. The vet we use told us on our first visit that Phetta was the most well behaved puppy she had seen in her more than 10 years in the business. Keep in mind this was prior to any obedience courses or training. Lexus Phetta Absolutely wonderful! She is in pristine health and is extremely smart. She recently worked with a professional trainer who said she is impressively sharp. She has a precious personality and just wants to love everyone. We could not be more happy with the entire experience. I highly recommend Gold Star Family Poodles! Terrie Bragg The best experience! The best experience! I got my wonderful puppy on May 1st. I had the best experience with Leroy. Leroy was very kind and helpful and extremely patient with me and my 1, questions. I would definitely get another poodle puppy from Leroy in the future! Thank you Leroy! I could not be happier with this sweet boy! It took 2 weeks to house train him! He is so smart!! I also wanted to have a pup that looked like a childhood stuffed animal I had and he matches almost identically! Needless to say we are very happy!! Thank you so much!! So we always wanted a red standard, and my girlfriend future wife sent me a link to Gold Star right before Christmas , kinda played around with the idea for a while seeing how we already had a little rat terrier, and ended up deciding that a new addition would be a great Christmas present. At the time they only had a couple males left out of the litter, so after a phonecall we jumped in the car and drove down from Cleveland Ohio to check some of them out. I should mention, that she had already kinda fell in love with this little guy from his picture, lol, and when we got there Leroy was a pleasure to work with, he ran us through his program, answered any questions, and even introduced us to all the parents. I can safely say that the experience was great, and he even followed up with us a couple times via phonecalls to ask how everybody was getting on! As far as our little? Great puppy! Freya has been with us a month now. We are delighted with her personality, her eagerness to learn and please. Her vet check come back clean and she is a happy puppy who started sleeping through the night at the two week mark! She is becoming friends, or at least patiently tolerated by our 10 yr old goldendoodle. So we are all happy! We would definitely recommend this breeder To friends and family. Thx Leroy. He was so well behaved and just laid on the table most of the time. If all goes well in the next 6 months he will start task training to be my psychiatric service dog. The best puppy EVER!! My black lab was 14 years old and sadly she got cancer and I had to put her down. After much research to find the most intelligent dog, hypoallergic and no shedding, poodles always were at the top of the list. Leroy was amazing to work with and made all the travel arrangements. She flew from Ohio to Florida without any problems at all. The trip was seamless and Lydia was calm cool and collected when I picked her up at the airport. She was the most beautiful peaceful puppy I have ever seen. That is a true testament to this breeder. It was an instant connection when our eyes meet, she captured my heart. She was about 9 weeks old when I got her and I now 3 months old. I am amazed at how much she has learned in just 3 short weeks. She learns extremely quickly and so eager to please. Loves play time, socializing and sleeping. She is the most well adjusted puppy I have every had. You can rest assured that this breeder knows what they are doing and produce perfectly balanced healthy pups. I am so happy she is in my life, she is a true companion! Kelly Kelly Connelly Cecelia Great service, very kind I just got my first poodle and the man Leroy who sold us Jane was extremely helpful and just beyond kind. Such a refreshing sight to see just how great people still are. Thank you, would definitely come back for a second pup from you all. Best experience!!! Stephanie solloso Jane Sweetest Puppy! Disco AKA Jethro is now 12 weeks old. He has the sweetest personality and is doing great with house training. We had no issues with sleeping in his crate from night one. Sweetest Puppy! We just love him and he is getting along with our other 2 dogs. It was great working with you! Sara Koch Cooper Wonderful addition The breeder was very warm and accommodating as my wife and I had a busy weekday schedule and were unable to handle delivery. We drove down from Philadelphia PA to Ohio and were immediately greeted by the breeder and Oakley who was ready to play at first meet. The ride home was long and he was initially uncomfortable but did incredibly well. It took about 3 days for him to really acclimate to his new environment but he immediately did well with the family. He and his new big sister, Harper, get along wonderfully. If we ever decide to get another pup, we would make the drive back down in a heartbeat. All paperwork and an initial supply of food was provided as well as his initial shot record. Thanks again Leroy!! He was immediately so friendly and warmed up like he has been here since day one. I appreciate the organization of the paperwork and how easy and uncomplicated it was as well. Thank you so much for everything! He trained easily and is so willing to please. As a pup still very playful and lots of energy. He is so gentle with other dogs and socialized easily. We were very happy with Leroys facility and his willingness to answer all my questions. Susan Emmons So Sweet! So Sweet! We had a great experience getting a poodle from Gold Star Family Poodles. Leroy was quick to respond to our inquiries, gave expert directions to his place, and was kind and professional during all interactions. The paperwork was organized, and exactly as advertised. Most importantly, the puppy is adorable! What a wonderful disposition he has. I highly recommend Gold Star. Nancy Anter We love our Goldendoodle! We love our Goldendoodle! Our goldendoodle, Poppy, has been a great addition to the family! She is so playful and lovable, we love her so much! Leroy was so great when we went to go pick her up and we would highly recommend his puppies to anyone. Socrates Family Poppy So cute So funny. Baxter has for sure been a joy to have! He is so funny to watch in his puppy stage and brings joy to everyone who sees him! Leroy made the whole process very easy from payments to shipping he made everything as simple as can be. Thank you! Mallory Davis The most amazing pup! The most amazing pup! My husband, Curtis, was searching for a wedding present for me when he came across Gold Star Family Poodles online. He immediately reached out and had been in contact with Leroy in regards to Peaches. Leroy was so awesome and answered any questions my husband had. My husband explained how easy the process was the entire time. She came with her crate, some food and all of her documentation we needed. Peaches, who is now named Harlie, is the absolute best dog in the world. She is sooo loving and just the cutest pup. She is hands down the best present ever! Makes it even more special she was my wedding gift from my husband and I found out about her the morning of our wedding. So adorable!! We recommend Gold Star Family Poodles to anyone who asks! He gave us lots of tips, as well as being very friendly. Very pleased with the cleanliness and the seller, would recommend to anyone. Goldendoodle She is an absolutely wonderful dog, so sweet and smart! She has adjusted very well to her new home already! We know that we will enjoy every moment with her for many years to come! I explained to Leroy what we were looking for in a puppy and he went above and beyond talking to us, texting, emailing pictures of puppy, past litters and anything else that would help with our decision. Leroy is very passionate about his breeding business and puts a lot of time and effort into making sure his puppies are matched with the right family. He definitely set the bar high when dealing with other breeders. Working with Leroy was a Blessing and the best experience for us. We Love Our Goldendoodle! Leroy was very helpful and provided all the necessary information about our new puppy, as well as the paperwork. Ellie is an amazing Goldendoodle and is already potty trained and knows sit, stay, paw, and lay down. She is a big ball of energy and we love her so much! I would definitely recommend Gold Star Family poodles to anyone who is looking for a goldendoodle or a poodle! If you want to follow along with our goldendoodle her instagram is ellietheedoodle Jessica Mendiaz Ellie Great addition to our family. Maggie is a 10 month old Goldendoodle. We drove 3 hours from Cincinnati to get her in November of after her litter was born in September. She has turned into such a loving and fun family dog. She is great with the kids and is full of energy. She is just a happy dog all the time and is really smart. She is the most beautiful pup we have owned and we continually get compliments on her hair and her lovable face. So happy we chose Gold Star Family Poodles when selecting the newest member of our family! Great addition to our family. Cory Stinson Maggie Great Puppies with Sweetest Attitude We are expecting a baby in a couple months and wanted puppies for our daughter to play with when our baby is born. We wanted a smart breed that is hypoallergenic with a good attitude. We originally got one poodle but had to go back for his brother so they can play together and have puppy company. It was a great decision to get two because they burn all their energy playing. They were potty trained in a couple weeks and had very few accidents. The dogs are very healthy and we are very happy with them, their puppy breath and their gentle licks on the face. I can tell these dogs come from a great line holding their head high with perfect posture and are the most cuddly dogs I have seen. Brian Fleharty We love our sweet Goldendoodle! We are so happy to have found this breeder and our sweet Goldendoodle, Layla! She has given us so much joy in the month since we brought her home. It seems like she has been with us forever! Christine Clemens Layla Barnaby is an amazing dog! Barnaby is an amazing dog! Leroy was very informative and takes really good care if his puppies! Isabella Jarrell Best Goldendoodle! Best Goldendoodle! He still of course has a lot of puppy behavior but is responding to the training commands. Just wanted you to know!! Susie Mick Great experience. We got our precious pup back in June and we love her so much! We were looking to get our Lab a friend and now they are inseparable. Before bringing her home, Leroy was great communicating back and forth before hand and even sent me a video of her playing which I instantly fell in love with. Overall everything was a great experience and Leroy was very professional. Thank you so much!

The only concern that we have is that our dog came with Kennel Cough. An unnecessary expense that our breeder, Morgan, should have taken care of before we received our puppy. We have taken him to the vet to start our puppy on antibiotics. Tibbitts I love my bulldog and his sister! J Tapia a year ago My guy is 8 and in perfect shape! Just updating this! My guy is gonna be ten in April. His father was Searg and his mother was Sweetvine. Morgan was great to work with. She was patient and thorough with all of our questions when we first got him. My recommendation to any bulldog owner is to be sure to have a vet who truly knows and loves the breed. Bulldogs are known to have more health issues than some other breeds, but they can certainly live long healthy lives, especially if they have a healthy start to their life. Morgan will be honest and open to discuss any health concerns you may have, as well as give vet recommendations or general info. I love my dog and we are forever grateful to Morgan for doing all the work she does for this amazing breed. Jasmin Portillo 2 years ago I will definitely recommend sugarplum to whoever is looking to purchase a bulldog. You can tell Morgan is a professional and takes really good care the pups while in her care. We will dependently purchase another bulldog from her in the near future. Karl Beckett 2 years ago I purchased my English bulldog in August .The entire process of purchasing her as well as picking her up at the time was incredibly simple. All the animals there seemed to be very happy, well cared for, and healthy. I reached out at the end of March asking for info about her new process and she was extremely responsive. I also told her I was looking for a certain head shape and she was super willing and responsive about the sires. I emailed twice and called twice over the span of 2 months with no response. I was not pushy or unkind, In fact I led each communication with grace acknowledging that she must be busy, and still no response. This made me think about why she might be concealing information about her female bulldogs. I began to feel very uncomfortable about this business and putting a deposit down on a breed that is known for genetic health issues without any information on one of the parents. I know Morgan reads these reviews, so perhaps she will provide an explanation about the female bulldogs she breeds on here, as I was not able to receive an answer myself. Rameen Maleki I had my puppy Rocky there twice and they have been great. Katherine Fitch Our little bully is great! She is the joy of our life. I got her back in from Morgan and her helper, I'm forgetting his name, and they were both great. I had made an appointment to come check out the puppies and they let me sit with them for a couple hours before making a decision so I didn't feel rushed and definitely made the right choice. She is about 42 pounds and looks much smaller than most other bullies. Ming did have a lot of health problems her first year but I was prepared for this since everything I read on bulldogs said this was a high probability. It was life changing for Ming Ming who suffered from pneumonia a few times in her first year. She had to go to the ER a twice and a lot of the vets didn't know how to stop this from happening until I found out about that surgery. John Strutt 2 years ago I have to say, sugarplum gets a bad rep. I bought Maya Aggie about two years ago. She is the most energetic loving bulldog I could have asked for. She has the sweetest temperament and is a wonderful addition to the family. Great around kids and other dogs. Already recommended this place to others. Jean Bricker 3. Work on your self and treat your dogs better! Henry Lachowicz 2 years ago Definitely a puppy mill. She has some farm in Missouri and you never get to see the parents. Our bully had nothing but temperament issues, and its sad. We were accidentally referred here and its the biggest mistake we ever made. Deborah Shomaker 2 years ago I purchased a blue and white male bulldog 3 weeks ago. He is doing great. He is a wonderful addition to our family. He is very healthy. Everything went smoothly from purchase to delivery. This is an unethical business that does not represent itself in a straightforward way that plays fast and loose with their dogs' wellbeing. In we were naive and wide-eyed optimists and all too desperate to find a bulldog to join our family. We didn't ask hard questions and we came to regret it. Looking back, there were so many things that should have raised red flags. She told us that she was a breeder, and yet when we arrived she shifted the story to say that she was in the process of setting up as a breeder, and converting her space. On the phone she never made it clear that the puppies she had were from out of state, we came to find out ours was from Missouri, bred by a woman whose name we found had multiple liens against her for bad business practices. If you are wondering why I'm writing this review after so many years it's because I have had mixed feelings. Winston the bulldog is a constant joy, and I regret nothing even though he needed multiple surgeries in the months after we bought him because of a congenital hernia that every vet we saw said demonstrated that the breeder had been irresponsible. Even after thousands of dollars in vet bills, I do not regret choosing Winston, but what I regret and wish I could change is ever having supported this unethical business. Cindy Short 2 years ago Have had our baby for almost a year and the most amazing EB ever. Very responsive, white glove delivery, and exactly as promised. He is a "smaller" of the breed which we love. We knew about the midwest birthing facility and even had someone in the 'biz' check them out. Would highly recommend them for sure. Especially if you want a medium to smaller EB. She is full of energy, personality, and fun! She is our first English Bulldog but definitely won't be the last as long as Morgan is the breeder. Luna has only needed her well visits to the vet and spaying. Do not hesitate to work with Morgan and Sugarplum Bulldogs to find a wonderful pup! Though I had never seen the breeding facilities myself and cannot speak on the quality of such, I can tell you that this is one extremely healthy, happy bulldog! Having been home two weeks now he has received an exceptional bill of health after a new puppy inspection with my veterinarian that I have been going to for over a decade, is fully crate trained, and getting consistently better potty training. That being said, I wanted to write this review in-depth because this is the first dog I have ever bought from a breeder and I had major apprehension doing so without visiting the facilities and whatnot first, but my experience has been very good start to end and I based on such I would highly recommend Sugarplum Bulldog thanks to the quality of the little guy who's now a part of my family. I can't speak for others' experiences, but I hope this and the attached images help to clear up some of the posts that made me initially question Sugarplum Bulldogs, as I am an actual owner of one and am speaking only on my experiences as such. Hope this helps! Michelle Dabney 2 years ago I love Sugarplum Bulldogs! Morgan has been wonderful - so knowledgeable and responsive! We are fortunate to have 2 babies from Sugarplum. We got our first four years ago, and our second just last week. Although our newer addition was a little sick when she arrived, Morgan was very responsive and took care of everything. Years ago, when we were looking for our first bulldog, I unknowingly talked to a couple of sellers who turned out to be selling on behalf of what I assume were puppy mills. They were high pressure selling and not very knowledgeable about the puppies except for the basics. Thankfully we found Sugarplum Bulldogs! We even already used the same vet. So when we brought our puppy in for his first vet check-up, they immediately asked if he is a Sugarplum because they know her dogs! When we were ready to get a 2nd one, there was no question we would contact Morgan! I know it is scary to get a pet sight unseen, but I would encourage anyone to talk to Morgan. She knows so much about her dogs and the breed — she is so helpful! And if there are any issues, my experience has been that she is very honest and will make it right. We could not be happier with our bulldogs pictured here with our rescue pet puggle , and we are so happy to work with Morgan and Sugarplum Bulldogs!!! Mirna C 2 years ago Morgan answered all my questions with kindness and professionalism every time I reached out to her. I was able to reach her via phone and email. She was very patient with all my questions as this was my first time purchasing a bulldog. She even offered to answer my questions if I didn't purchase a pet from her. Sugar Plum works with a puppy mill in Missouri where the animal welfare laws are not strict. The dogs are then transported to VA to a nice, clean farm. You don't see the dogs that are bread and what is going on behind the scenes. We bought a puppy that had a heart murmur. We brought the puppy back and were given another puppy. She had 4 surgeries to get her to be okay before her first birthday. Our sweet baby passed away two weeks ago at the young age of four. We kept in touch with the lady who adopted her brother. He died a few weeks ago from cancer. Our friends, who we mistakenly referred to Sugar Plum, have two dogs from there. One has had two CCL repairs and the other, also 4-years-old, was just diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Prognosis is not good. Bullies should not require surgery after surgery to make them okay and only live to be 4. Please, don't put yourself through the heartache we are going through. I made the mistake and purchased a puppy and he died 3 weeks after he was delivered to our home. His name was Bodhi and we loved him very much. .My family and I were devastated after loosing our puppy Bodhi. The night Bodhi died he was playing with his toys in the kitchen and during this time he was gasping for air. The doctors sedated him and put him on a ventilator. X ray showed no object blocking his air way. I am not a animal doctor but I believe my puppy was sickly from the day he was delivered to our home, not to mention Morgan owner of Sugerplum had my puppy delivered to us at 7 weeks old which is a direct violation of the breeding laws. I called Morgan the night my puppy died and told her what happen. Morgan did not care and she had no sympathy whatsoever. Way to go Morgan hope your happy. Who would ever think your puppy would die after 3 weeks of having him. .To everyone do not buy a puppy from Sugerplum find a local breeder who loves there animals and are not in it for the money. RiP Bodhi broken hearted Ray Teresa Chestnut 2 years ago Purchased a puppy less than six months ago for a friend recovering from cancer! She was at the vet at least once a week! Last night she had to be put down 5 months old! Is 5 months the life expectancy? Just long enough to fall totally in Love! Zoeh Byrd 2 years ago i have 2 wonderful puppies from sugarplum named max and molly! Mikey Miller 3 years ago Purchased a puppy from Sugar Plum a while back and he died within the first 2 weeks. We spent over 7 grand bringing him to different vets trying to keep him alive. When we contacted the breeder she tried to blame us for not taking proper care of the puppy. All of the vets that we brought him to said there was nothing more we could have done as owners to keep him alive. I was not planning on writing a review but I really do not want people to go though what my family went through. Please avoid this place. Ashley Wetherell 3 years ago This is a puppymill! I absolutely love my sweet fur baby, but I would never buy from them again nor reccomend them. Call Morgan at for specific pup identification if you are leaning towards placing an early deposit. Please check back, we update our website daily! Please see our Deposit Page and our Transportation Page for information on getting your puppy. We love the English bulldog temperament, physique and expression, I just personally like it to be about lbs. We find the smaller sizes are more buoyant and playful and, though still very heat sensitive, are better able to cope with life in general. Downsizing an AKC breed takes time. Our girls all come from long lines of lb. We not trying for 20 pounders…our goal is to have healthy, beautiful babies that consistently mature at lbs. If you see a puppy that tugs on your heartstrings please call, or go to our deposit page for more information. In the last few years it has become clear that most people would prefer their puppy to be transported using our White Glove transport or Nanny Flight transport. Today, we have requests for our Puppies from all over the country. Because of this, the majority those requesting a Sugarplum Bulldog Puppy have also requested transport to their area of the country; those in Florida, for example, cannot easily make the drive to RI. As such, the majority of our Puppies have shifted to a transport model; this gets them closer to their new forever home. Because of this, we have come to the decision, that for the well being of our Puppies and for the benefit of our new Sugarplum Bulldog owners, we have developed a transport model for our pups using our Puppy-Mobile with direct transport to the pups new Forever Home! Our Mid-Western breeding home is co-owned by Sugarplum Bulldogs, and our partner. I realize that not having a chance to play with the Pups is disappointing to some, but please understand that our team are dedicated to the highest level of care for our little Pups. We truly feel that this new model is in the best interested of our Puppies and their new homes. Please feel free to ask me any questions…. However, they highlight that the gait of the English Bulldog is somewhat peculiar — shuffling with a sideways motion — and the coat is flat, straight, and short with a fine texture. Moreover, the skin is soft and loose, particularly in the neck, head, and around the shoulders. If you keep these characteristics in mind, it would be effortless to spot carelessly and unethically bred English Bulldog puppies. These puppies usually have health and temperament issues as well. So do yourself a favor and never purchase low-quality and low-priced English Bulldog puppies from backyard breeders or unauthenticated pet stores. Always choose Bulldog breeders that strive to improve the breed standard. Golden Retrievers have captured the hearts of dog lovers around the world with their friendly nature and stunning appearance. But have you ever wondered about the history behind these beloved canine companions? The Golden Retriever breed was developed in the late 19th century in Scotland by the renowned Lord Tweedmouth. He sought to create a breed that excelled in retrieving game during hunting expeditions while maintaining a gentle and friendly demeanor. Lord Tweedmouth crossed various breeds, including the now-extinct Tweed Water Spaniel, with the aim of achieving his vision. The result was the Golden Retriever we know and love today. With their innate intelligence, strong retrieving instincts, and desire to please, Golden Retrievers quickly gained popularity as hunting dogs. Over time, their exceptional temperament and loyalty made them sought-after family pets and service dogs as well. Temperament of Golden Retrievers Today, Golden retriever puppies are widely recognized for their intelligence, affectionate personality, and adaptability to various lifestyles and activities. They are often used as therapy dogs, service dogs, and search and rescue dogs, as well as beloved companions for families, couples, and singles. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for Oregon Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. They tend to be good with kids, other dogs, other pets, and even strangers. Goldens love attention and they bond closely with their families. They are affectionate with them, and also just about everyone else. Although they do tend to get along with everyone, they love being around their favorite humans the most. They will bark to alert you and can end up barking a lot if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. But, they are high-energy dogs that will likely always be up for more activity if you are. Much like the Labrador , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They tend to start winding down a little around the age of 3 and settle into your lifestyle, but they will still be high-energy dogs that require a lot of daily activity. Goldens are known for being versatile and athletic dogs. They tend to love swimming. Once they are done growing and the vet clears them for higher-impact activities, you can try other things too. They are one of the dog breeds that make good running partners. You can also teach them how to play frisbee or play fetch. Training for dog sports is another good option. In addition to obedience, Golden Retrievers are well suited for agility, dock diving , rally, flyball, tracking, and more. Fully-grown Golden Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Golden Retrievers generally live for years on average. With their intelligence, eagerness to please, and gentle disposition, Golden Retrievers are versatile working dogs. While Shepherds make great pets, it is important to train them from a young age. Below are five training tips for White German Shepherds. Be consistent: White and other German Shepherds all respond better to training when there is consistency to things. Everything from your manner to the commands you use needs to be consistent from one training session to another. Layer your training in easy-to-iterate steps. Master one of two commands before introducing something else. Be a leader: It is important to remember that dogs are looking for you to be a leader and not a dominator. You must be prepared to take charge rather than use aggression as a training tactic. Communicate properly: Dogs do not communicate the same way humans do. It is important to understand the right way to communicate with your White Shepherd. Short and clear commands yield the best results. Also, avoid using similar-sounding commands, as these are likely to confuse your dog. Practice positive reinforcement: Never punish a dog for not doing well in training or for struggling to recognize a command. Instead, positive reinforcement is the recommended training practice. Reward your furry friend for every good deed. However, the exact costs will vary depending on where you are and the size of the litter. The price also relates to buying White Shepherd puppies from a recognized breeder and not from a puppy farm or through shelter adoption. White German Shepherds are different from other German Shepherd dogs in so far as they have a white coat rather than the traditional tan and brown. However, genetically, there is no difference between White Shepherds and other shepherds. The difference between them is that the White German Shepherd carries a recessive white gene that changes its fur color. This is the same way some humans are born with blond hair. Conclusion The White German Shepherd is the rare form of one of the most easily recognized dogs in the world. Wonderful family dogs. German Shepherds love to be part of the family. They struggle when home alone for long periods. Luckily, this breed is very good with children. The same as any other dog, White Shepherds need to be trained. They were first discovered by Von Stephanitz who spotted the German Shepherd at a dog show and decided that this breed was the perfect standard for a working dog. They are thought to have first appeared in the United States in and were recognized by the AKC in .Appearance White German Shepherd puppies look like little balls of fluff and are extremely cute! By 1 year of age, they should be at their adult height. You should always buy from a reputable breeder because sometimes breeders try pass off German Shepherd mixes for pure white German Shepherds. The White German Shepherd can weigh anywhere between 50 to 85 pounds with a male weighing more than a female. They are classified as a large dog breed and stand tall at 22 to 26 inches at the shoulder. Again, females are normally shorter than the males. They are a very muscular and athletic breed, which is no surprise because they were bred for their working capabilities. They are very strong and wear a proud posture and have erect ears. Their feet are big too, even when they are puppies! Coat The White German Shepherd has two different types of coat — short coat and long coat. If your White German Shepherd has a long coat, it will typically be much longer than other German Shepherds in the breed. The fur is thick and straight and does require quite a bit of grooming, although we will go into more detail about that below. When they are a puppy, their coat is normally super fluffy. It does become more coarse as they get older, but their ears remain fluffy. Their coat is also a double-coat which helps add protection against harsh winds or rain. Color Of course, the coat color of the White German Shepherd is white! This is what makes them stand out and a unique breed. The white coat recessive gene only impacts the fur color and does not have any effect on their skin or eye pigment. This makes identifying a white German Shepherd very simple and also closely resembles their wolf ancestors. In every other aspect, they mirror the appearance of a standard tan German Shepherd with the same dark brown eyes. They are very protective and make excellent guard dogs or watchdogs. They are also extremely loyal and love to be around people, which makes them a great family dog as well as an excellent working dog. They may also bark at strangers, but this is just because they are trying to protect you! A White Shepherd is an active dog and needs to be mentally stimulated. As we mentioned above, they are originally a working dog and love to be outside running and playing. Lifespan The life expectancy of a White German Shepherd is relatively long. They can live between 12 to 14 years. Many of the problems they are more likely to develop are the same problems that other breeds of German Shepherd deal with. The most common health problem for the German Shepherd dog breed is elbow dysplasia and hip dysplasia. Dysplasia is a condition that is seen in many large dogs and is a disease of a malformation of the joints. The joints can become very painful and may worsen over time causing lameness. The best way to ensure your pup is less prone to any of these conditions is to buy from a reputable breeder and to ensure you get health clearances from both parents. You should also check your dog often for any signs of these issues and take them to the vet regularly for checkups. Daily Life Now you know all about the characteristics and traits of this unique German Shepherd breed, it is time to take a look at what daily life with them is like. We will look at what to feed this dog, how much exercise they need and what grooming of this big breed should be. It comes as no surprise that this is a high maintenance dog breed, but they are worth it! It is recommended that you feed them a diet specially formulated for large dog breeds and you should always check the back of the dog food packet to see how much food you should be feeding your doggie based on their weight. Experts recommend that a White German Shepherd should be eating around calories a day, which is around 3 cups of food. As a puppy, they should be fed three times a day which can then be decreased to two meals a day as an adult. However, if you have a busy lifestyle then this can just be one meal a day. Their food should be healthy and nutritious. It should cover all the nutrients that a dog of this size needs, including proteins, fats and carbohydrates. High-quality dry kibble is a great option, although some dog owners opt to feed their pup raw food. Exercise It is not a surprise that this breed of white dog is very active and has high exercise needs. As a working dog and a breed that is often used as a police dog, they need lots of mental and physical stimulation to keep them happy. You should ensure that you are exercising your German Shepherd for 60 to 90 minutes a day. This includes walks, playing and mental games. Your doggie will want a big back yard to run around in too, so they will not be getting the exercise they need if you live in a small apartment. Without adequate exercise, they can develop unwanted and destructive behaviors due to frustration and boredom. Family Compatibility A White Shepherd makes an excellent family dog. Because they are so loyal, they will want to protect you from anything harmful, which makes them an excellent guard dog. However, you will need to train them from a young age to understand that not everything is a threat, otherwise they may well bark for hours! We mentioned above how much exercise a German Shepherd needs. As a working dog, they need lots of physical and mental stimulation, so they are the perfect pet for those who are outside a lot. Because they are a large dog, they also need a good amount of space. This includes a back yard that they can run around in. Your German Shepherd will not thrive in a small apartment as they will feel like they are being cooped up and may begin to exhibit destructive behaviors. This breed does have a naturally high prey drive, so you will need to take care when introducing them to children for the first time. That being said, when socialized properly, White German Shepherds love children and will even take your children under their wing. The older your dog is, the harder it will be to introduce them to new things and people, but it still can be done. They also get on very well with other family pets, so there will be no issue there and they will become a loved family member. Training The White German Shepherd is a very intelligent dog and is therefore very easy to train. Their ease of training means that they make a great family dog as well as a dog for couples or individuals. You should train them from a very young age and always use positive reinforcement. This can include verbal praise and yummy treats to show them that they are doing a good job. German Shepherds can be a little stubborn, so you should never punish them or scold them. They are great detectives too, so hiding treats and getting them to sniff the treats out makes a fun game to play! Grooming Unfortunately, your White German Shepherd will shed all year round. This is because their coat is so thick. One way to minimize shed is to ensure that you brush them at least two to three times a week. Bathing is not necessary often — only when they look dirty. Brushing their teeth is very important to prevent dental decay and gum disease, although you can give them dental chews every day to help keep their teeth clean. One way to ensure that grooming your German Shepherd is not a traumatic experience for them is to begin grooming them from a young age. This will show them that there is nothing to be afraid of.
