Shepherds selectively bred dogs to preserve the traits that helped with herding and guarding livestock. The resulting dogs were capable but showed variation in appearance and ability. In , the Phylax Society was formed to create standardized development plans for native dog breeds in Germany, leading to a trend to breed for both temperament and appearance. His show dog, Horand, was the first German Shepherd in the breed register. In the first half of the 20th century, the breed became strongly associated with Imperial and Nazi Germany as a symbol of purity and militarism. They were also used as guard dogs in the Nazi concentration camps. When the German Shepherd was introduced to the US in the early 20th century, it was a popular breed. Unfortunately, as more people acquired the dog, German Shepherds became associated with gangsters and bootleggers during Prohibition, leading to a reputation as a dangerous breed. For a brief period, the dog was named the Alsatian Wolf Dog to remove its association with Germany at the time. In , the British kennel clubs officially used German Shepherd. Red German Shepherds make excellent pets for a variety of owners. They excel at herding, service work, canine sports, guardian work, or just as a gentle family pet. These dogs are intelligent and easy to train, but they require socialization, boundaries, and consistency. With proper training, the German Shepherd is a loyal and loving companion. Conclusion The Red German Shepherd is a beautiful variation on the classic black and tan color. Over time, the dogs were bred to be kept as pets and show dogs because of how friendly they were and how easily they could be trained. There are two common lines of German Shepherds today, the work line and the show line. The working line German Shepherd has a straight back and a more powerful and compact body and is hardworking with high energy. The show line German Shepherd has a sloped back, and a broader body and is generally friendlier and less intense. The show line is usually calmer and makes a great family pet. Black and red German Shepherds are intelligent, confident, brave, and friendly. They are very susceptible to training and are some of the most devoted, loyal, and loving dogs. Here are some of the things about the black and red German Shepherd that makes it so special: Black and red German Shepherds are the most common shepherd dogs used as show dogs. They are obedient, easy to train, and enjoy training, games, obstacle courses, and more. The red color can vary quite a bit. Some dogs have tan and black coloring; you also see mahogany German Shepherds and those with darker red and black coloring. The red-colored fur comes from a recessive gene. However, the red recessive gene is one of the least recessive genes for different fur colors, which is why black and red coloring is quite common. Over time, as the dog gets older, its red color can fade to lighter mahogany or a tan color. This is because some dogs have the liver gene, which causes a brownish color to develop. Because of the presence of this gene, many dog breeders keep black and red German Shepherds separate from the brown or tan ones. The dogs can have different coat lengths. The black and red long-haired German Shepherd is a sight to behold. Their coats can also be medium-length or short. Vom Royalhaus is a world-renowned German Shepherd puppy breeder. Color Fading in Brown Labradoodles There are two major ways that your Labradoodle may have a faded coat. A grey coat from birth can be caused by the dilute gene. Alternatively, puppies may inherit the graying gene from their Poodle side. These puppies will have brown coats for their first few years. But, they will prematurely turn grey as they age. Not all Labradoodles will experience this, only those who receive the greying gene from their Poodle parent. Are Brown Labradoodles Healthy? White mismarks can be very small or very heavy, or anywhere in-between. The puppy is born either Black or Chocolate and immediately begins to lose the dark color, revealing anything from a cream to a red underneath! The tips of the fur may retain their dark cast, but the dog will present as somewhere on the cream-red spectrum. I have included her picture below showing her in the middle of the changing process. The genetics of color are absolutely fascinating!

Origin The name Boxer is thought to come from the way they use their front paws for just about everything; pawing at its food bowls, toys, and even its owner in a playful way. The Boxer was developed in Germany in the 19th century and its ancestors were two German mastiff-type breeds. They were later bred with the ancestors of the Mastiff and Bulldog. Boxers were first used for dog-fighting, bull-baiting, cart pulling, cattle dogs, rounding up livestock, and to catch and pin wild boar and bison until hunters could arrive. Later they became popular theater and circus dogs. There are two types of Boxers: the German and the American Boxer. German Boxers have bigger heads and are generally more muscular than American Boxers. See store for details on a puppy. The American Canine Association, Inc. The American Canine Registry.

Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for Florida Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. What type of Golden Retrievers are sold in Florida? We have some good news! Ready to make your Golden Retriever dreams come true? Take a look at our convenient list of available puppies. How do I know which breeders to trust in Florida? Our independent network of trusted breeders have already been pre-screened and verified, so that you can focus on what really matters: choosing your dream puppy. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. Are you considering getting a puppy? That is a big decision! We rarely get puppies into rescue. Before you take this big step here are some things you might want to consider. So consider the information below — and carefully think about the fact that an older dog might be a better fit for your family. Be sure you are willing to make a year commitment to caring for a golden for his or her entire life. If you decide to get a puppy, it is especially important to choose a breeder very carefully. When purchasing a puppy, you put a lot of trust in the breeder. Pet Shops or Dealers Our advice is to steer clear of pet shops, dealers, flea markets, or any type of mass puppy raising operation. These pets are often ill or have genetic defects. No reputable breeder will sell puppies through a pet shop because a reputable breeder wants to know where their puppies are going. A particularly sad scenario for these dogs is one we see several times a year. We get a call to take in a young golden that has a hip or leg problem and needs expensive surgery — a genetic defect. While the pet store sometimes guarantees the dog, and will accept it back and replace it with another dog — think about it. What happens to the dog that needs surgery? GRRMF is called upon to step in and help these sweet dogs who are otherwise young and healthy but are doomed to a life of pain if they do not get surgery. We raise funds and help them and then adopt them to a new home. Please trust us on this issue — stay clear of pet shops when getting a puppy. You are setting yourself up for heartbreak if you do. Backyard Breeders Often these folks sell through the classifieds and are breeding their own pet thinking it would be fun to have puppies or that their dog should be bred at least once before being spayed. Some backyard breeders are all about making money. Backyard breeders know little about breeding standards and do not usually provide genetic testing of the parents that is recommended by the Golden Retriever Club of America. You take a chance getting a dog from a backyard breeder. Are you prepared, once the dog grows, to handle any potential health problems arising from genetic defects passed on to your dog? For example, what if your dog needs surgery due to hip dysplasia at one year old? Can you afford a few thousand dollars for corrective surgery? While you might feel like you are getting a bargain from a backyard breeder, think long term and factor in all the risks you are taking. Furthermore, know that many backyard breeders try to charge as much for their dogs as a responsible breeder. Choosing a Reputable Breeder Your best choice for purchasing a puppy is to research reputable breeders. A word about Rescue Dogs Rescue dogs may or may not have been responsibly bred. We consider this only one of the many advantages to adopting an older dog. What you see is what you get! Goldens Rescued Since .Life Span Did You Know? The Golden Retriever has been an AKC-recognized breed since and was commonly used as a gun dog and for retrieving small game such as waterfowl, and for companionship. The Golden Retriever originated in the Scottish Highlands. The first Lord Tweedmouth, Dudley Majoribanks, is credited with developing the breed and keeping detailed records to create the ideal gun dog for the terrain. Great discipline and a gentle spirit make the Golden Retriever a perfect retrieval breed since the goal of this task is to bring the trophy back as undamaged as possible. Golden Retrievers first appeared in dog shows in at a British dog show. They also started appearing in the United States around the same time as they were brought across the Canadian border. They gained popularity with sport hunters and in general. Their popularity really took off in the s and they are consistently one of the most popular dog breeds. If you are not the sporting type, bringing a Golden Retriever into your family as a pet is just as rewarding because they are one of the most loyal and jovial breeds out there. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are the epitome of friendly and make fantastic family dogs. Golden Retrievers are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. They tend to be good with kids, other dogs, other pets, and even strangers. Goldens love attention and they bond closely with their families. They are affectionate with them, and also just about everyone else. Although they do tend to get along with everyone, they love being around their favorite humans the most. They will bark to alert you and can end up barking a lot if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in homes with yards where they can run. They can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. These dogs do well in just about any climate, but are sensitive to heat. As one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they are not at all happy about being left alone for long periods of time. Although super-friendly and attention-loving, Goldens can also be sensitive to their surroundings; make sure they feel included, but have a quiet place to go if things get too noisy or overwhelming. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Golden Retriever include progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, elbow dysplasia , and hip dysplasia. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Goldens are considered one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. They are highly trainable dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please. These traits make them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. It also helps them excel at obedience competitions. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered the command, move on to something more advanced or another activity. You can also enroll in puppy training classes for some variety in training and also some socialization. Golden Retrievers have a long double coat that will shed a little year-round and will be heavier twice a year as the seasons change. Brushing a few times a week and daily brushing during seasonal shedding along with a bath as needed is usually enough for at-home care. You will want to go to the dog groomer for a professional trim a few times a year, especially as the seasons change. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Daily tooth brushing, along with cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. Golden Retrievers are one of the most active dog breeds. Daily walks plus some playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough to keep these dogs happy and healthy. But, they are high-energy dogs that will likely always be up for more activity if you are. Much like the Labrador , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They tend to start winding down a little around the age of 3 and settle into your lifestyle, but they will still be high-energy dogs that require a lot of daily activity. Goldens are known for being versatile and athletic dogs. They tend to love swimming. Once they are done growing and the vet clears them for higher-impact activities, you can try other things too. They are one of the dog breeds that make good running partners. You can also teach them how to play frisbee or play fetch. Training for dog sports is another good option. In addition to obedience, Golden Retrievers are well suited for agility, dock diving , rally, flyball, tracking, and more. Fully-grown Golden Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Golden Retrievers generally live for years on average. With their intelligence, eagerness to please, and gentle disposition, Golden Retrievers are versatile working dogs. In addition to being one of the dog breeds that make the best service dogs , Goldens can be found working as emotional support dogs, certified therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, military dogs, police dogs, animal actors, and more. Featured Golden Retriever Article. I am a proud and responsible breeder of AKC registered dogs. AKC proudly supports dedicated and responsible breeders. Thank you so much for your possible interest and inquiry regarding my Golden Retrievers! Sharing my golden family and precious puppies with wonderful families has been such a rewarding experience for me over the past 16 years. I love to see and am blessed by the joy my puppies bring to all of the families that find me. I have posted various pictures of my puppies that I have taken or families have shared with me over the years. As you can see, they are beautiful and just so very awesome! Pictures of my current puppies and their parents are posted in my listing. Jaxie is my youngest and the mother of my newest litter. Jaxie and Channing just had their first puppies together, and they are simply beautiful. Jaxie did very well giving birth to her babies and has been an excellent mother giving each and every one of her golden babies all the love and attention they deserve and need. Jaxie and her babies are so beautiful. Channing, sire to my puppies, is a very smart, active young guy. He really seems to adore Anna, Jaxie, and Allie and constantly displays acts of affection towards them in different ways. He is always by their sides trying his best to engage them in play. He, too, enjoys our pond. Anna, my medium golden dam, is equally sweet and kind. Her favorite activity is to slowly ponder around our 25 acres under the old oak trees all by herself. She also enjoys laying in the shade by our pond and then when she feels like it, joining the others for wade in our Golden's favorite man-made pond. Allie is my lighter mama. She has such a sweet, sweet disposition. She is a very affectionate Golden who loves spending time with me. She truly waits for me to come home and greets me as I open the door to my car each and every day. There is NO way that Tallie, my very first Golden Retriever and dam to my first litters, could not be shared. She has a very special place in my heart just because she was the first and the very reason that Golden Retriever babies are part of my life to this day. Her personality and joy of life was just like all of my other Goldens and even more. Tallie is now in heaven and truly missed and thought about each and every day. She will never be forgotten and always treasured. Mason, the oldest and previous sire to my litters, was definitely the dominate male in my golden family. He recently went to heaven and will be so missed. He was a wonderful golden whose favorite activity was to dig, dig, dig. He enjoyed going into the water to fetch balls but also to search for things under the water. He simply lowered his head under the water and eventually came up with a stick or even a tiny limb. He was so proud acting with this accomplishment! My Callah, a darker golden dam to some of my puppies, was the sweetest and kindest Golden anyone could ever know. She also loved having her paws rubbed. Finding the tiniest twig or a small stick was a favorite desire of her heart. Wading through our pond searching for little fish were as well. She is now in heaven and is truly missed. Breeding Golden Retrievers has been a part of my life for the past 16 years as my family has lived out on 25 beautiful acres in rural Madison County. Thank you for a great dog! When I tell you that he did it with no effort, I'm not exaggerating. He did it all on his own! I think he would have passed the test when I received him in July. I think you and your staff should be very proud of the training you provide your puppies! Please thank everyone who worked with Dwayne. Highly recommend these lovely folks if you are looking for your newest furry family member. My husband and I are newly married and had been really wanting a furry baby to bring into our family. It had been years since either of us had a pet so you could imagine all the questions we had. Our initial contact with them was very informative. Jamie was very patient and understanding. She took the time to explain the breed, temperament of each dog and offered a meet and greet. At the meet and greet we were given time to meet with each puppy and discuss with Jamie which one suited our living and lifestyle best. It was truly a very hard decision because they were all so cute, but we chose Aster! Leading up to the day of pick-up, Jamie provided us with daily videos and pictures on how Aster was doing. She also initiated potty training and clicker training, which has worked wonders for us. On pick up day she provided us with some toys, a mommy blanket, a brush, his initial vaccine record, and an abundance of helpful information for continued training. Even days and weeks after, Jamie has always been available to answer any questions or provide her personal advice for whatever I may need. We are forever grateful to them for bringing Aster into our lives and for making the process so easy. We adopted our pup, Orion, from them and we definitely made the right decision. Jamie and Ira are very educated and really love what they do. Desert Bloom Doodles kept my family updated through the entire process and they ensured every question was answered. Their family spends a ton of quality time with the pups. They consistently train them prior to thier adoption, resulting in an easier tranisition. They continue to be very supportive and remain available to answer any questions or provide any assistance now that Orion is home with us. Desert Bloom Doodles is truly a blessing to my family and we are grateful to have shared this experience with them. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. This, combined with their sweet nature, elegant looks, and tiny size makes them a great option as family pets. However, they can live between 12 and 14 years — this makes them a commitment! Some good signs include a list of health tests that can be cross-referenced with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals OFA , willingness to show documentation of all test results, and membership in dog clubs American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club, or Canadian Kennel Club. If you decide to purchase a puppy from a pet store, make sure to check their reviews on Google, Yelp, other directories, and forums. Our list originally included 26 breeders in Florida, but we removed 4 because of bad customer reviews and even several fraud allegations — do everything you can to ensure you are not scammed. When talking to a breeder, do not be afraid to ask questions — check if they test their dogs and keep them current on vaccinations and other treatments. As you may have noticed, many of the breeders on our list require you to fill out an application or questionnaire. Breeders that only care about your ability to pay the full price should be avoided! Remember that not all breeders have available puppies at all times and that it is normal to be placed on a waiting list. Check how many litters they have each year as the American Kennel Club AKC considers 7 or more litters a year to be a high volume breeding — breeders with lots of puppies might not properly raise and socialize each animal. All poodles that are up to 10 inches high at the shoulder are toy poodles — if they are even smaller than that, they are still toy poodles. If visiting in person, check the environment the puppies are raised in — make sure that they are kept in clean areas, there are toys dogs can play with, they have enough room to exercise, there is fresh water available, and that the puppies are clean and well-groomed. After getting a puppy, have a veterinarian inspect it in the first 48 hours. Remember to check with the breeder that the sire and the dam have been tested and found free of specific hereditary health problems, as this increases your chance of getting a healthy puppy. As with any other purchase, before buying a toy poodle, make sure to do a lot of research, do not buy from the first farm you visit, and take each of these points and many others into consideration when choosing your next pet. Summary And there you have it! Before buying the animal, make sure to call and see if the farm currently has puppies available for sale, check the animal in person, and have a veterinarian inspect your animal as soon as you get it. Stay safe from scammers and always request a video call verification before paying for anything. It is this widely adored appearance, plus their intelligence, has earned this breed the status of the official dog of France. The Poodle is thought to have originated from Germany as a breed of water retriever. However, some argue that it is a descendant of the French Barbet dog. What we do know is that this is an old breed, with a history stretching back to the 15th century at least. Disposition Poodles are famous for being one of the most intelligent breeds, making them incredibly responsive and trainable. Meaning, they are very sweet, lively and cheerful puppies who like to be with people. If they are socialized properly, a Poodle will both charm your friends and also make a wonderful watchdog. It is important to give them the proper amount of exercise they need because, without it, they can become stressed and timid. The Poodle is great with children, making them an excellent family dog. Poodles are active, intelligent and proud dogs. They love to spend time with their family and are eager to play and please. They are remarkably agile and smart, which makes them wonderful to train. They enjoy learning and puzzles, so keep your Poodle stimulated to avoid them being bored or anxious. This breed is very people-oriented, which makes them both loyal and kind. They will respond to training routines that are fun and positive, just keep it consistent. Exercise Poodle puppies of any size are very active and require a good amount of exercise every day to suit their high energy level. They will thrive when they are kept busy and get to act on those inherent impulses such as retrieving, hunting, swimming, and learning. Poodles love to go for walks and jogs. Some even learn to do it themselves with clippers, while others take their dog to a professional dog groomer about every six weeks to have their hair and nails trimmed. Training As with most dogs, the Poodle will do best when they receive early socialization and leadership. This opportunity to learn manners will help that they grow up into a confident, happy adult dog. This is largely due to how cute they are as well as how trainable they are. The best approach to training is to make it both fun for you and the dog. They will respond best to positive reinforcement as they can be a bit sensitive. Despite their quiet nature, Poodles can be fans of their own voices. They tend to alert you to visitors, which is a trait you may appreciate. If you are not a fan of barking, make sure to not react to the barks. You may also want to try clicker training if the barking persists as an issue. See store for details on a particular puppy. why is my goldendoodle puppy shedding so much - Yes, Americans prefer dogs over cats, we do love our dogs. Yet, it comes as a surprise that there are many dog owners who do not have a proper dog house. A dog cannot feel at home unless he has his own dog house in your house. It does not matter if you spend hundreds of bucks a month on the upkeep of your dog, if he does not have his own little space, he cannot enjoy being with you. However, this can be resolved with the help of a small and inexpensive thing: the cardboard box. You can use easily available and totally inexpensive cardboard boxes to make dog houses. In this blog post, I am going to show you how to make a fancy and comfortable dog house for your pet. Luckily, as per the statistics, we are moving from big to medium or small size dogs and thus we do not need a huge dog house. Get a cardboard box or sheet First of all, you need to get an unused cardboard box or sheet as per the size of your dog. Make sure that you get the measurements of your dog. Your doghouse cardboard or cardboard sheets must be big enough to accommodate the full length, width, and height of your dog. This is just to make sure that your pet enjoys enough room. Get other material Apart from cardboard, you need colors or wallpaper, tape or glue, scissors, scale and a strong net. Cut the flaps as per the measurements Make sure that measurements were taken while considering that you are not going to shove your dog into a tight box, but give him enough room. Now cut 4 square pieces. They will serve the purpose of the walls of your doghouse. Also, cut two more equally wide and big pieces to make the roof. Make the house To make the house, get all four pieces of the walls and tape the flanks to each other. Make sure that you should tape them from inside and use the duct tape or another sturdier tape, because your dog may mess up with the tape. Now you have a square box without any roof or floor. Get the two sheets that you cut for the roof and bring them together forming a triangle. Now, tape the roof from the inside. Again use duct tape or some other sturdier tape. If you think that you do likes to mess up with things, make sure to use some high-quality glue. Now you can see that you have the initial shape of a dog house. However, there are no windows and no door. Plus you see that where the front and rear walls meet with the roof, there are two big triangular holes. Use the tape or glue to paste the net color of your choice and give your dog a beautiful window with lots of ventilation. Last, but not the least, draw a door on the front wall this step should be done before you ever glue or tape the front wall cardboard with others and use scissors to make a door. Remember, it is not a dollhouse, so by the door, I mean a half oval-shaped hole in the front wall. Now paint the walls and roof, or apply a wallpaper to make it look like a home sweet home. This is it. Job well-done! Now your dog has its own dog house made out of cardboard boxes for the USA. If you paid attention, you would have noticed that we have not applied floor to this house. It is because most of the dog houses are supposed to be without the floor. You keep it on grass or inside your home and your dog gets a grassy or rugged floor. Loved the idea? Share it with others and write back to us. Learn more about Cardboard boxes Share this:. Figure out what size you want it to have and what features. We added a doors, windows and a little mailbox to ours. Find a Large Box We asked around and found a neighbor with a large wardrobe box. Cut the Box Flat Cut one side of the box so you can lay it flat. Flip it over so the side without words if your box has any is facing up. Draw the Windows and Doors Use a ruler and pencil, draw your windows and door or any open areas you want to cut out on the cardboard. Cut the Openings Put the cutting mat or cutting board under the areas that you intend to cut — windows and doors. Cut out the openings. You can leave the left side of the door attached and fold the door so it opens. We decided to cut the door completely out. We added hinges to make the door sturdier. You want the inside of the box outside, with the words or logos from the box inside. Use a ruler to draw a line from the edge of that flap to the center of the flap and another back to the other side — creating a peak. Do this on both sides of the box. Glue the flat sides to the peaks. Glue each side of the flat box tops to the sides of the peak. The flat flaps will not meet at the top of the peak, there will be a gap at the top — that is ok! Measure the Roof Measure the width of the box and half of the roof from the peak down to the edge of the box. Make two of these dimensions for each side of the roof. You might need to use another box for the roof. Glue the Roof to the Playhouse Hot glue the roof onto the house. So to make the roof straight we had to lay that folded side on something straight. Attach the Door If you decided not to fold your door and cut it all the way out like we did, you will need to attach the door. Fold the cardboard and then hot glue one side to the door, the other to the edge of the doorway, creating hinges. Embellish Your Playhouse We painted polka dots on our house. We also added pom poms along the roof and the mailbox. And also a Welcome above the door. Then we put pillows inside for the dogs! Our puppy immediately went inside the house and made it her home. She loves it!! Our older dog likes to go in for a little bit, but our younger dog has made the playhouse her home. What can you make out of a box? Make something and show us!! Save your boxes and show us your creations by tagging your posts on social media with WonderBox and WonderPark. Be sure to take your kids to see Wonder Park in theaters. Email Address Body A crate is not only a spot for your pet to call its own, but it can also keep your pup out of trouble and can aid in housebreaking. Here are a few ways to make your puppy feel at home in his crate. A dog owns nothing yet is seldom dissatisfied. Make sure any cloth you leave in the crate is unfrayed, and remove such items If your pup starts to chew on them. If an animal swallows bits of cloth, the pieces can cause an intestinal obstruction. Confine the puppy there no more than a few hours or overnight. Leave the door open for the first few days and feed him inside the crate. Once your puppy goes in and out on her own, begin closing the door for short periods of time. This will work better if you have tired your puppy out first. Lock your dog in overnight, then take her out first thing in the morning so that she can relieve herself. Always associate the crate with good things. Never use it as a punishment. Some dogs will be happy to sleep in a crate for their whole life. Make Your Own Dog Crate If you find the cost of a crate prohibitive, or simply chose not to go that route, giving you pet a bed of its own is the next best thing to help it acquire a sense of belonging and stability. Cut down a wooden or cardboard box. Avoid wicker beds-puppies will chew on them and can hurt themselves. Cut it low enough so that it can get in and out easily, but leave the sides high enough to form a little enclosure to keep out drafts. Line the box with an old, unfrayed towel, cushion, or blanket so that she can curl up and get cozy. Read Next. About products and suppliers: What is cardboard dog cage pet house?
