Obesity Obesity can be a significant health problem in Bulldogs. It is a serious disease that may cause or worsen joint problems, metabolic and digestive disorders, back pain and heart disease. Instead, give her a hug, brush her fur or teeth, play a game with her, or perhaps take her for a walk. Everything from fleas and ticks to ear mites can infest her skin and ears. Hookworms, roundworms, heartworms , and whipworms can get into her system in a number of ways: drinking unclean water, walking on contaminated soil, or being bitten by an infected mosquito. Some of these parasites can be transmitted to you or a family member and are a serious concern for everyone. This is an extremely irritating and painful condition that can ultimately lead to blindness. It can happen in any dog breed; however, your Bulldog is especially at risk for this heritable disorder. We have found that most of our Bulldogs love to be brushed. Use a soft bristle or rubber brush. Start at the rear and brush against the hair. Follow this with a good rub down. This will keep his hair shiny and his skin healthy. The idea is to remove the dead hair and distribute the natural oils. Consistent grooming will keep your Bruiser healthy and out of the bathtub as much as possible. This is why we stress brushing your Bruiser. Frequent brushing allows you to avoid those skin drying baths. Whenever a bath is needed, use a deep sink or bathtub filled half-way with lukewarm water. Before you wet the coat, place dry cotton balls gently in both ears so that no water accidentally gets into the ear canals. You will clean the face later with a wet washcloth. After the shampoo is applied, you will need to rinse completely with fresh warm water and then rinse again. Any shampoo residue left behind can irritate English Bulldog skin. Next you will need to clean the face, including those delicate Bulldog wrinkles. You can now towel dry your English Bulldog and remove the cotton balls. Wrinkles English Bulldogs have wrinkles that need to be cleansed thoroughly. We have found that bathing your Bruiser is not the only time to clean wrinkles. Temperament The fearless, energetic and intelligent nature of the Jack Russell Terrier combined with the loving, sociable nature of the pug has made the jug dog a gentle, adorable and active breed. Being very alert, they are keen to know and be involved in all that is going around them. Some of them have inherited an obsession for digging and hunting instinct from the Jack Russell Terrier, making them bark aggressively at chipmunks or squirrels. They are loyal to their owner but may become stubborn at times. When left alone for long, these apartment dogs get destructive. He also enjoys time with our other mixed breed dog Terra whose mother was a purebred Golden Retriever and we believe a black Lab father. I also developed a toy that he really has a drive to play with; it is a hard plastic ball, large enough not to get stuck in his jaws which can really be strong and it has two metal ball bearings inside it. I let him chase it all over the 1st floor of our home. I just close off sections with lots of places for it to get stuck. I also have the main play area pretty well ball proofed. If it gets stuck somewhere he will usually come and get me but you have to keep an eye or an ear out for him since he takes out his frustration on anything nearby. This includes extension cords, patio door blinds or the ottoman. Having consistency on the rules of good behavior during playtime keeps the house from being taken over by this little character. So overall, this breed is a joy to have around. He is my constant companion, loves attention from anyone and of course thinks he's the best. I really fell in love with his looks on first sight but his personality has truly taken my heart. She can do that and she can stand and spin in a circle. How to Stop Your Puppy from Jumping By Steve Dale It seems so cute: Granny comes over to the house to meet puppy for the first time, and puppy is a little jumping machine. Fast-forward the clock just six months, and now a boisterous, happy-go-lucky, much larger and more powerful Labrador is jumping on Granny. Inadvertently, however, the family actually trained the Lab to jump. Haug and Berger suggest that responses like kneeing or putting on an electric collar on the dog only potentially serve to damage the human-animal bond, and may also actually hurt the dog. What if you arrived home and every time your significant other goes to give you a kiss, you offer a knee in the chest or an electric shock? There are many good solutions to the jumping problem, however, depending on the family makeup and the individual dog involved. One rule, though, is everyone must be consistent. Here are some of those humane solutions: Offer an incompatible behavior. Or, offer treats stuffed inside toys. Tell people to ignore. And I mean totally ignore puppy until the jumping subsides, and only then greet and pet the dog. If the jumping resumes, quit until the puppy quits. The puppy will learn that in order to receive attention which is all they really want , jumping is not accepted. Clicker-train the dog to sit whenever people walk into the house. Homemade Diets Research has shown that in the past, poorly balanced homemade diets have been harmful to German Shepherd puppies. There is now abundant information available to anyone who is willing and able to produce a safe and balanced diet.
