Another important resource is access to a community of other Labrador owners. This can be through online forums or in-person meet-ups. In fact, golden retrievers have snagged the third spot for most popular dogs in the United States for the last several years! These pooches are on the larger side females range between 55 and 70 pounds, while males weigh in between 65 and 75 pounds and require lots of exercise, which may make some families shy away. But don't let their size—or high energy—deter you. Golden retrievers are highly intelligent, easy to train compared to other breeds of dogs , and incredibly friendly. Whether you're already a golden puppy parent or considering adding one to the family, read on to learn some fun facts and see some seriously cute photos! One even surmises that goldens are descendants of Russian circus dogs! These alternate theories were debunked, however, when the personal records of Lord Tweedmouth of Inverness, Scotland were made public. Lord Tweedmouth was an avid waterfowl hunter who wanted to breed a dog with some serious bird retrieving skills. So, in , he bred a yellow retriever named Nous with a liver-colored Tweed Water Spaniel named Belle. The result? A pack of puppies with the exact hunting skills he was looking for, which he dubbed golden retrievers. Golden retrievers were later brought to North America—sometime during the s—where they became hugely popular for their beautiful looks and sweet personalities. Then, in , they were officially recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club. Continue to 2 of 9 below. They can range from a very light, snowy white, to a yellow-gold, to a dark, coppery red. No matter the color of their coat, however, it's important to never cut your golden retriever's hair—doing so can put her at risk of skin cancer, among other health issues. Their coats are made up of two layers—the long, silky, waterproof outercoat and soft, warming undercoat—and act as insulators against all types of weather. So, if you think to trim your golden's coat in the summer to keep it cool, think again! It'll be much cooler and its skin will be protected from the sun with its coat intact. Continue to 3 of 9 below. Bred to fetch waterfowl, golden retrievers love a good swim session but would be just as happy with long walks, games of fetch, or even agility games. Aim for about one hour of exercise each day, but keep your dog's age and activity levels in mind—you may have to adjust accordingly. Continue to 4 of 9 below. If taken to a rescue site, for example, they can quickly learn how to perform search and rescues to help those in need. In addition to their smarts, golden retrievers' downright sweet demeanors make them the perfect pick for therapy dogs. They can bring a lot of comforts—and joy—to people who have experienced traumatic events, are living in hospitals, or are stressed out during college exams. Continue to 5 of 9 below. Their love of food can cause health problems like obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease , so it's important to feed your golden the right amount of food for her weight, age, and activity level. Not sure how much is right for your dog? Talk to your vet about a healthy diet. And take it easy on the treats! It's true that goldens love to eat, but they like to carry non-food items in their mouths, too. Their mouthy nature makes everyday stuff such as sticks, shoes, or even the remote control a highly prized possession. Because golden retrievers have very gentle mouths, challenges such as the golden retriever egg challenge—in which a golden is tasked with holding an uncooked egg in its mouth without breaking it—have popped up all over the web. Continue to 6 of 9 below. Tons of major movies, such as the "Air Bud" series, "Homeward Bound," "A Dog's Purpose," and even thrillers such as "Poltergeist" and "Friday the 13th" have goldens in the credit roll. What's more? There are a few golden retrievers in presidential history, too. Presidents Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford had goldens during their presidencies. Golden retrievers are often considered the all-American dogs, so it makes sense, right? Continue to 7 of 9 below. Todd, the sweet golden pictured here, is one of those puppy heroes. During their hike, Paula nearly stepped on a rattlesnake—and when the snake lunged at her, Todd jumped in front of her to protect her. Although Todd was bitten on the nose and had severe swelling in his face, he's expected to make a full recovery. Because of his heroic deed, the internet has hailed Todd as a very, very good boy. And believe it or not, Todd has found a way to be an even better boy: He has a GoFundMe page to help other heroic doggies who have suffered from the same injuries. Continue to 8 of 9 below. Even in their senior years, it's not uncommon for older goldens to keep up with their puppy counterparts. Continue to 9 of 9 below. And for good reason! The only thing that seems to be missing from the party are some birthday treats.Margo Who doesn't love splashing around in the water on a hot summer day? Swimming is one of the best ways for dogs to get exercise, and golden retrievers are natural at it. Plus, Margo's coat is absolutely glowing in the sunshine—how photogenic! Maggie Maggie's glasses make her look to be one smart cookie—because she probably is! Golden retrievers are one of the smartest dog breeds. She's serving sophistication, and we're here for it. After watching us all struggle through WFH life for a year, our dogs are sure going to miss us when we return to the office. Or maybe they'll be like Thor the golden retriever and replace us altogether. Louie Talk about lifegoals! Nothing feels better than a car ride with the windows down and the wind blowing through your hair fur. Krembo Uh, hello, tongue! Krembo's letting it all hang out and we can't blame him. If only we could reach through the screen and boop that nose. And also have us craving some snacks. We could all use a little frolic through a flower field some days, but we'll have to live vicariously through Lola for now. Infestation-related dandruff is treatable with effective medication. Baths and grooming sessions with helpful products can provide a lot of relief. As you can see, there is a lot to think about here. Take the time to do the investigation work and understand the problem and work from there. Turning to this guide is a good start. This is why we will start from the beginning. What is dog dandruff? Dandruff is a term used to describe the tiny little flakes of skin that appear in our hair. We tend to notice them when we brush our hair and drag the particles from the scalp to the outer layer of hair. All this is is the dead flakes caused by a dry and flaky scalp. This all relates to our dogs too. However, instead of getting a flaky scalp on their head, they have to deal with flaky skin across their bodies. Signs of dandruff in Frenchies The signs of dandruff in French Bulldogs are very similar to those of human dandruff. The first thing to look out for here is obvious flakes of skin on their fur. This is going to be more noticeable with dogs that have darker coats, much like how dandruff stands out more on black hair. You may also see them when brushing your pet, or if they leave flakes on upholstery or on your clothing. If you suspect your dog of having dry skin, their dog bed may be a good starting point. What are the common causes of dandruff in Frenchies? A good way to determine the cause of the dandruff is to check their skin. Is the skin dry all over or are there certain patches that are flaky? Flakiness in one small area may relate to a reaction to something, like a bite or an allergic reaction to an irritant. Widespread dryness may have more to do with the condition of the skin or dietary issues. A common issue here is a lack of oils in their diet, which leads to declines in skin and coat health. These oils often come from omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish oils, or from flaxseed. Or, you might find that your pet has an allergy and is intolerant of a key ingredient in their food. Dry skin due to irritation or infestations: Then there is the possibility that your Frenchie has mites or some other parasite that causes skin complaints. One possible culprit here is the cheyletiella mite. This is also a greater possibility when they share their home with a cat. The infestation leads to flaky peeling skin and requires medical help. Or, your pet may have seborrheic dermatitis or another condition. Dry skin due to low humidity at home: Another consideration here is that your Frenchies dandruff problem is a result of dry conditions in the home. A lack of humidity could cause the skin to dry out and, before long, it will flake away like dandruff. Dogs with widespread areas of dandruff are more likely to deal with this issue. Why is it so important to deal with Frenchie dandruff? This can affect the whole body and highlight issues with skin and coat health. Over time, you may also notice that this leads to a problem with the condition of their coat. Dogs may also feel itchy, scratch at their skin, and make the problem worse. The sooner you can deal with any discomfort or irritation related to dandruff, the better your pet will feel. Also, if there is dry skin related to infestations or parasite bites, you need to handle that infestation as soon as possible for the ongoing health of your dog. This will also stop the parasite from spreading around the home or to other animals. What can you do about doggy dandruff? Now that you know how important it is to deal with these issues of dandruff in dogs, you need to consider the best ways to deal with the problem. French bulldog dandruff is treatable, even if it becomes a common occurrence due to their environment. Where possible, it helps to make sure that these actions are as natural as possible and to work with veterinarian recommendations. Dogs that are lacking in fatty oils could benefit from specialist dog food that focuses on a higher Omega-3 content. Or, you could switch to a salmon flavor or add some supplements into their normal food. Dogs with allergies need to avoid their trigger. It can take a while to determine what that trigger is, whether it is a poultry or grain issue for example, but trial and error will pay off in the end. Switching to an LID dog food with limited ingredients may help too. Experiment with new food and see what works and what they like the taste of. This means regular brushing to massage the skin and stimulate the flow of natural oils and blood. This improvement in circulation could be enough to help restore the condition of their skin. These massages are also great fun for Frenchies that love to be touched and close to their owners. It is also important that you take the time to find the right products for bathing your dog as necessary. The right medicated dog shampoo can make a big difference. Oatmeal versions are also very soothing and dogs should appreciate the scent over a more floral or fragrant option. Get the right treatment for pests and parasites: If the problem is down to parasites and infestations, you need to make sure that you get the best possible treatment option from your vet. A professional check-up will allow your vet to not only diagnose the precise cause of the condition, but to also check for other issues and infections. From there, you can get the best treatment for Frenchie dandruff and start them on a steady course towards calmer, softer skin. Get a humidifier near their bed: Finally, if you find that the cause is simply down to the humidity levels in your home, you can correct this quite easily with a humidifier. These devices should alter the atmosphere in the home enough to provide relief and stop the condition from coming back. Just be patient when searching for the answer and always do what is best for your pet. Yes, they can. You may have noticed the not-so-welcome flakes sitting atop your precious pup's fur during your last grooming session. Are white flakes hanging around your home and dog a nuisance? But there's no need for alarm or panic when dealing with pet dandruff. In most cases, dandruff is very manageable. With a bit of determination and patience, you can help your dog's coat regain its healthy look and feel. Dandruff is fairly common in pets, but it's important to discover its origins so you can accurately assess and rid your pet of annoying flakes. If you're curious for heady, scientific details, the official name for doggy dandruff is seborrheic dermatitis or seborrhea for short. Wow—that's a mouthful! Before we dive into the various ways you can rid your pet of the flaky nuisance, let's first discuss the leading causes and symptoms associated with pet dandruff. Pet dandruff is pretty easy to detect. It appears as small, white flakes that cling to your dog's fur. These flakes can also fall off and attach to bedding, upholstery and a variety of other household items. Another giveaway that your dog might have dandruff is if she's constantly licking, scratching or biting her skin. Occasionally, if a more severe issue is present, you might also notice redness, hair loss and even a foul odor near affected areas. While dandruff in itself isn't harmful, it's definitely unsightly. Dandruff tends to be a secondary issue, so it's essential to get to the root of the problem and treat the underlying cause—not just the dandruff. Dandruff appears when your dog's sebaceous glands over-produce an oil called sebum. This oil helps keep your precious pup's skin moist and healthy. However, when the sebaceous glands produce too much oil, it causes an imbalance, which in turn causes dandruff. Your dog's dandruff comes in two forms: dry seborrhea sicca and oily seborrhea oleosa. And it can occur for several reasons: Bacterial and fungal infections take advantage of a dog's compromised immunity. An unbalanced diet can decrease essential nutrients needed for a healthy coat and overall health—including obesity in some cases. Seasonal or environmental allergies can cause dryness of the skin. Stress can present in a variety of ways , including dandruff. Grooming activities, like too much bathing. Every dog requires bathing from time to time, but probably not as often as you might think. In many cases, your dog's dandruff is simply a symptom of dry skin caused by weather or seasonal shedding. You can prevent or remove this type of dandruff with a few simple changes to your grooming routine. Grooming .Brush your pup regularly with an appropriate brush or comb to help keep the skin and coat healthy and shiny, which may prevent dandruff in the first place. If your pup does have dandruff, the brush and comb will help remove the flakes. Sometimes the shampoo you use dries out your pup's skin. Be sure to choose a shampoo that doesn't strip your dog's coat of natural oils,3 and avoid using human shampoos because human hair care products aren't formulated for a dog's pH levels. Both soothe your dog's skin and coat and keep them healthy. Plus, the shampoos prevent flea reinfestations for 28 days. Oatmeal baths. Oatmeal baths are a well-known treatment for dandruff and are easy to do at home. Mix the ingredients thoroughly. Wet your dog with warm water, slowly add the oatmeal mixture and lather as you would shampoo. Allow the mixture to sit on your dog's skin for several minutes before rinsing. Do you live in a dry climate, or is there less moisture in the home often in the winter? Try a humidifier; they add moisture back into the environment, which will help the skin from drying out. A humidifier is not only good for your dog, but it will benefit you as well—your hair and skin will definitely thank you. If the above suggestions don't seem to help your dog's skin and coat, it may be time to consult a professional. Your vet may prescribe a new dog food or even vitamin supplements, depending on the root cause. A quick once-over by the vet and a possible blood draw can help properly diagnose the issue, which helps formulate an appropriate treatment plan. If you don't currently have a family vet, finding someone you can trust with your furry friend is important. Remember, a caring veterinarian wants to partner with you to ensure your pup's health and happiness. Now that you have a better understanding of pet dandruff, you should be able to assess your pet's needs better. Diagnosing and treating your dog's dandruff can be RUFF, but you can handle it! Now that you know what to look for, grab your favorite grooming tool and enjoy some one-on-one time with your favorite pup. Your time together can be both enjoyable and productive. Skin and coat care may not be the last step in ridding your furry friend of dandruff, but it's a step in the right direction. Xu, Elizabeth. Jamieson, Amy. Dandruff appears in French bulldogs, just like it does in humans, when flakes of dead skin cells begin to fall out of place and stick around on the hair and wherever they land. What Exactly is Dog Dandruff? The medical term for doggie dandruff is Seborrheic dermatitis. There are two types of seborrheic dermatitis known as seborrhea sicca, which causes dry dandruff, and seborrhea oleosa, which causes oily dandruff. You can have a mix of the two in your French bulldog. You may also notice that their skin is dry and flakes when you scratch them. Irritated skin in one concentrated area might be a reaction to anything your dog came into touch with, or it could be a sign of a more severe condition, such as an infection or parasite. If you detect dandruff , consult your veterinarian. If you see any other symptoms, including itching, reddish skin irritation, or scaly areas of hair loss, you should contact your veterinarian right away. Since skin problems might be caused by genetic, environmental, dietary, or parasite factors, numerous treatment methods must be considered. A variety of factors can cause dandruff in French bulldogs, and it is essential to note that dandruff is not limited to French bulldogs. Dandruff may affect any breed or a mix of breeds. In most situations, dandruff can result from a hereditary disease, such as primary seborrhea or ichthyosis. However, it is more frequently than not triggered by anything in the surroundings like a food aversion, allergy or an underlying health condition. Bacterial and fungal diseases of the skin can also result in dandruff. Skin disorders are the most common symptom of food and environmental allergies in French bulldogs. Affected dogs may be itchy at certain seasons of the y ear , have persistent ear and skin infections, or continually lick their paws. Dandruff is frequently just one of the symptoms of an allergic French bulldog. A poor diet might deprive your dog of the nutrients that he requires to maintain healthy skin and hair. Check that your dog is eating a portion of high-quality, well-balanced dog food. Fatty acids such as omega-3s and omega-6s have a role in skin health, and some dogs benefit from supplementing their diets with them. A French bulldog, like humans, might suffer from dry skin during the winter months when the air is dryer than usual. Forced-air heating might aggravate the problem. If you only see dandruff on your dog during the winter, it might be due to a lack of humidity in the air. A weaker immune system makes your pup more susceptible to subsequent illnesses. Walking dandruff is a parasitic ailment caused by mites called cheyletiellosis. Walking dandruff spreads quickly. It is essential always to take your French bulldog to the vet as soon as you discover dandruff, redness, or scaling. Bathing Your French Bulldog to Reduce Dandruff Bathing your dog can help cure dandruff, as well as bacterial and fungal diseases on your French bulldog. Follow the directions on the bottle exactly. Some shampoos must be left on the dog for many minutes before they begin to perform their magic. Warren London - Hydrating Butter.Simply rub the dog lotion into the coat, and this dog fur conditioner works like magic. This is the stuff dog conditioner gets measured against. Brushing your Frenchie distributes extra skin oils throughout their coat, preventing them from accumulating on the skin and eliminating dead hair. Brush your dog daily if he has dandruff and once a week for essential maintenance grooming. Giving Supplements to Your Dog to Prevent Dandruff Your veterinarian may also advise you to give your French bulldog fatty acid supplements like omega-3s and omega-6s. When selecting a supplement, keep in mind that these items are not as tightly regulated as pharmaceuticals. Look for a product that has been assigned the National Animal Supplement Council Quality Seal or that your veterinarian recommends. These vitamins, omegas, and antioxidants may help with dry, sensitive skin. Providing a Healthy Diet for Your French Bulldog to Prevent Dandruff Make sure to offer your French bulldog a well-balanced meal that covers all of its nutritional requirements. Treating Other Health Issues to Control Dandruff in Your French Bulldog In addition to caring for dandruff, your French bulldog will need to be treated for any underlying issues they may have. Antibiotics for bacterial infections, antifungals for fungal infections, steroids and immunosuppressants for immune-mediated illnesses, allergy tests, and drugs are examples of such treatments. However, suppose your dog is also exhibiting any of the following symptoms like itchiness, excessive dandruff, a skin odor, hair loss, red or irritated skin, among other indicators of disease or discomfort. If this is the case, you should arrange an appointment with your veterinarian. Your veterinarian will most likely take a skin scrape screen for parasites, a culture to check for fungal and bacterial infections or comprehensive blood work for underlying systemic illnesses. There are a number of treatment options available depending on what may be causing the symptoms which include topical treatments, vitamin supplements, or even changes to diet if necessary. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a dog breed that originated in Southern Africa. They were bred for their tracking and baying of lions as well as leopards, baboons, and more. Although they were built for tracking down lions and keeping them at bay, they were not used for killing them. These dogs were valued hunting companions that could keep up all day with horse-mounted riders and then come home and protect the homestead from any intruder. Rhodesian Ridgebacks first showed up in the United States in the s. Now, Ridgebacks are still prized for their tracking abilities, but are also prized as family pets and companions who are cherished by their families. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are characterized by their affectionate, even-tempered nature and dignified, independent personality. They are loyal, faithful, and affectionate with their families. Due to their tracking history and hound status, Ridgebacks have a strong prey drive and a protective nature. They get along with children and other dogs, but may be naturally wary of strangers and may have an urge to chase other animals that come into their territory. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a highly adaptable dog breed. They thrive in homes with securely fenced-in yards where they can run. But, they can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. Due to their strong prey drive, they should only be let off-leash when they are in a securely enclosed area. They also do well in most climates. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to extreme heat and cold. Although they have an independent streak, they are devoted family companions and can be easily bored, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. This is a generally healthy dog breed. As with any dog breed, there are some potential health conditions to be aware of. For Rhodesian Ridgebacks, potential health conditions can include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and some eye anomalies. Due to their barrel-chested frame, Ridgebacks can also be at risk for bloat. Talking to the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and asking to see related health clearances can help allay some of these potential health concerns. Although the Rhodesian Ridgeback is highly intelligent and picks up on things easily, they do not tend to be a good fit for novice dog owners. Usually, monthly nail trimming is sufficient to keep nails from getting too long, but may need to be trimmed more often if they are not wearing down naturally. You can try starting off early with nail clippers, but if your Ridgeback is consistently resistant, you may have more success with a nail grinder. Ridgebacks have ears that flop over, which can be more prone to ear infections because they can trap moisture, dirt, and debris. When it comes to dental care for dogs , using an enzyme toothpaste or brushing their teeth every day is ideal. In addition to regular gum and tooth care, you can also supplement your efforts with dental hygiene chews or even a vet-approved dental care diet. This dog breed is built to be strong and is very athletic. The history of this dog breed might point towards a high-energy dog, but a Ridgeback requires a moderate amount of exercise to be happy and healthy. However, this does not mean they are couch potatoes. Far from it, Rhodesian Ridgebacks need long walks, play sessions, and plenty of physical activity to stay happy. They also love to run. Running with you, going hiking with you , or even going for a swim are all great activities for this dog breed. Ridgebacks are also a good fit for dog sports, especially tracking and agility. A fully-grown Rhodesian Ridgeback usually stands 24 to 27 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 70 and 85 pounds. A Rhodesian Ridgeback generally lives for years. Due to originally being bred for tracking and confounding lions during a big-game hunt, the Rhodesian Ridgeback was previously called an African Lion Hound. Featured Rhodesian Ridgeback Article. These dogs are loyal and loving, with a strong work ethic and an innate sense of protection. While they may not be the most popular mixed breed, golden ridgebacks are quickly becoming a favorite among dog lovers who are looking for a versatile and intelligent companion. We take a look at the origins of both parent breeds to get a better understanding of this wonderful hybrid. Rhodesian Ridgeback Rhodesian Ridgebacks are a breed of dog with origins in Rhodesia, now known as Zimbabwe. The breed was developed in the late s to be a hunting dog , and was later used by farmers to protect their property from lions. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are known for their loyalty and intelligence and are now popular pets around the world. Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in America today, but where do they come from? These lovable pups have a long and interesting history dating back to the late s. He wanted a dog that could help him with hunting, so he crossed a Wavy-Coated Retriever with a now extinct type of English Setter. From there, he bred the offspring with Tweed Water Spaniels and Irish Setters to get the desired look and temperament. The first Golden Retrievers were brought to America in the early s and quickly became popular as family pets and working dogs. They are known for their gentle nature, intelligence, and trainability — making them ideal companions for families with children. They are the perfect breed for families with children or those looking for a laid-back companion. Despite their docile nature, they still need daily exercise and stimulation to prevent boredom. With proper training and socialization, they make loyal and loving family pets. They are quick to learn new commands and tricks. However, they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. Without proper training, they can become bored, which can lead to destructive behaviors. Potty Training These hybrids are known for their loyalty, obedience, and intelligence. They make great family pets and are easy to train. However, like all dogs, they need to be potty trained. Here are some tips on how to potty train your Rhodesian Ridgeback Golden Retriever mix: 1. Start early: It is important to start potty training as soon as possible. The earlier you start, the easier it will be for your dog to learn. Be consistent: Dogs learn best when they have consistency in their training. If you are inconsistent with your potty training, it will take longer for your dog to learn. Be patient: If you are starting potty training at an older age, be sure to be extra patient with your pup. They may need more time and more repetition than younger dogs. Use positive reinforcement: Positive reinforcement is key when potty training your dog. If you want to get your dog excited about going outside, use treats or praise. These include a crate, a leash, and a dog door. A crate is the best way to prevent your dog from making mistakes indoors. Without access to the house, your pup will go only when you take them out. A leash is more for your comfort than anything. You can hold it while you take your pup outside, and you can use it to keep them close if they have a habit of wandering off when they go to the bathroom. A dog door is a great way to allow your pup to go in and out of the house on its own. Obedience Training — 6 Practical Tips When it comes to obedience training, there are a few things to keep in mind when working with a Rhodesian Ridgeback Golden Retriever mix. First, these dogs are known for their stubbornness, so patience is key. Secondly, they are highly intelligent and will quickly catch on to commands if they are properly taught. Lastly, they have a lot of energy and need plenty of exercise; this can be used to your advantage when training them. With these things in mind, here are 6 practical tips on how to provide obedience training to a Rhodesian Ridgeback Golden Retriever mix: 1. Start with the basics — sit, stay, come, down, etc. Be sure to use positive reinforcement such as treats or praise when they obey a command correctly. Set up a schedule for exercise and training. If you want to train your dog to walk on a leash, for example, set aside a specific time each day to do so. Make sure your dog is mentally stimulated. Dogs who are bored or lonely may become destructive. Be consistent in your training and the way you discipline your dog. If a certain behavior is unacceptable, do not let it slide one day and then punish it the next. When your dog is exhibiting negative behavior, do not use physical punishment. This may only make the behavior worse. Use positive reinforcement to encourage good behavior. For example, give your dog a treat when it sits or lays down on command. Socialization Socialization is important for a Golden Ridgeback for many reasons, including: It helps your dog learn how to interact with other dogs and people It can help prevent behavioral problems later on in life Socialization can make your dog more confident and outgoing, which makes for a happier pet overall. Here are a few things you should know about socializing them. Start socializing your pup early. The sooner you start, the better. Introduce your dog to other people, places, and situations. The more exposure it has, the better off it will be. If you don t allow your dog to greet other dogs, then don t let it do it. Stay positive and reward good behavior. Don t stop socializing your dog once they become an adult. Golden Ridgeback — Exercise Needs Rhodesian Ridgeback Golden Retriever Mixes are bred for their athleticism, and they need plenty of exercise to stay in shape. A daily walk or run is a good way to keep your dog healthy and fit, but you should also consider other activities like swimming, playing fetch, or going to the dog park. Exercise is important for Rhodesian Ridgeback Golden Retriever Mixes because it helps them stay at a healthy weight, builds their muscles and joints, and strengthens their heart and lungs. It can also help relieve boredom and destructive behaviors. Golden Ridgeback — Mental Stimulation Mental stimulation is just as important for dogs as it is for humans. A lack of mental stimulation can lead to boredom, which can cause a whole host of problems like destructive behaviors, chewing, and excessive barking. For a dog like a Rhodesian Ridgeback Golden Retriever mix, who are bred to be working dogs, mental stimulation is especially important. There are many ways to provide mental stimulation for your dog. One way is to give them puzzle toys that they have to figure out how to get the treat out of. Another way is to do nose work games where they have to search for a hidden treat. You can also teach them new tricks or play fetch with them. The most important thing is to make sure that your dog is getting enough mental stimulation every day. How to Groom a Golden Ridgeback? If you have a Golden Ridgeback, you may be wondering how much grooming is required to keep your dog looking and feeling his best. The good news is that the Golden Ridgeback is a low-maintenance breed when it comes to grooming. Bathing Bathing your dog is not recommended unless it is absolutely necessary. These dogs have a very low tolerance for pain and will definitely let you know if they are uncomfortable. Bathing too frequently can strip their coat of important oils, which will cause dry skin and dandruff. It is therefore suggested that monthly bathing sessions are generally enough to keep your Golden Ridgeback clean and healthy. Always use a mild shampoo designed specifically for dogs. This will help remove any dirt or debris that may be tangled in the fur. Next, use a wire comb to carefully detangle the coat. Be sure to go slowly and be gentle, as the wire comb can snag on the fur. Work around the legs and tail last. If your dog is a bit matted or has stubborn tangles, you can use a dematting tool. This will prevent overgrowth, which may lead to discomfort and pain. Ears Their ears should be inspected regularly for signs of infection or ear mites. Golden Ridgeback — Health Conditions The Golden Ridgeback is prone to several health conditions, including hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and eye problems. Golden Ridgebacks are also susceptible to certain types of cancer, such as lymphoma and hemangiosarcoma. While most of these health conditions can be treated with medication or surgery, they can still cause significant discomfort and even pain for your dog. If you think your dog may be experiencing any of these health conditions, please contact your veterinarian right away. What Can a Golden Ridgeback Eat? Golden Ridgebacks are not picky eaters, but they do have some specific dietary needs. They need a diet that is high in protein and fat to maintain their energy levels. Golden Ridgebacks also need a lot of calories to support their large bodies. A good quality dry dog food is the best way to meet all of their nutritional needs. Table Scraps A Golden Ridgeback can eat table scraps, but is it the best thing for them? Table scraps are typically high in fat and calories, which can lead to weight gain and other health problems. So, while some table scraps may be safe for your dog to eat, others could make them very sick. Doggie Treats Golden Ridgeback dogs are known for their sweet and gentle nature. This is one of the reasons that people like to give their Ridgebacks doggie treats. However, you need to keep in mind that doggie treats are typically high in fat and calories. In fact, if you give your dog too many doggie treats, he could gain weight. Supplements There are a few different supplements that are beneficial for Golden Ridgebacks. One supplement that is recommended is fish oil. Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for joint health. Another supplement to give a Golden Ridgeback is glucosamine. Glucosamine helps to support healthy joints and connective tissue. A third supplement that can be given to a Golden Ridgeback is chondroitin sulfate. Chondroitin sulfate helps to lubricate the joints and reduce inflammation. Is the Golden Ridgeback Dog Friendly? Yes, a Golden Ridgeback is friendly with other dogs. They are gentle and have a playful nature, which makes them great companions for other dogs. Golden Ridgebacks are also known to be very loyal to their owners, so they will likely form a close bond with any other dogs in the household. However, it is important to socialize a Golden Ridgeback from a young age so that they are comfortable around other dogs and people. Is the Golden Ridgeback Child Friendly? A Golden Ridgeback is a friendly dog breed that loves children. They are loyal and protective, but also gentle and loving. They make great family dogs because they are so good with kids. Their size can be intimidating to some, but they are really just big teddy bears. They are patient and tolerant, two qualities that make them excellent around children. Golden Ridgeback — Drooling Levels Drooling is a normal, natural process that all dogs use to communicate. Drooling is a way of showing affection and, in some cases, drooling can be used to help cool a dog down or clean its face. Golden Ridgebacks tend to drool more than some other breeds. This breed of dog will happily accept treats, food, and toys from you. Be aware that this breed may drool when it finishes eating or drinking. Some barks are warning barks, some are happy barks, and some are playful barks. Although every dog is different, most Golden Ridgebacks bark less than other dogs. They are able to withstand both very hot and cold conditions with little problem. This makes them the perfect companion for those who live in climates that see extreme changes in temperature. They are also very low maintenance when it comes to grooming, which is another plus for those who live in areas with extreme weather conditions. However, some have been known to live up to 16 years. The longest-lived Golden Ridgeback on record was 18 years old. Golden Ridgebacks are relatively healthy dogs, but like all breeds, they are susceptible to certain health conditions as outlined earlier. With proper care and nutrition, your Golden Ridgeback can enjoy a long and healthy life. Be sure to take them for regular checkups with their veterinarian and watch for any signs of illness. With love and attention, your furry friend will be by your side for many years to come. Golden Ridgeback — Puppy Prices Golden Ridgebacks are still fairly rare, which contributes to their high price tag. This price range will likely increase as the popularity of the breed grows. If you are interested in owning a Golden Ridgeback, be prepared to pay a premium price. However, the years of companionship and love you will receive from your pup will be priceless. They are loyal, loving, and protective of their family. As outlined, they are intelligent and easy to train. If you are looking for a dog that will be a lifelong companion, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Golden Retriever mix is a perfect choice.

Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in Nebraska? I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. Ary was incredible throughout the process, explaining everything we needed to know about the breed and the process of importing him into Hong Kong. He checked in with us several times before the flight and was in constant contact via text when we went to the airport to pick up Bruce, who arrived a little skeptical of his new surroundings but perfectly healthy and happy. We are passionate about sharing this exquisite breed with others, and providing wonderful homes for our pups. Once we decided to get an Australian Labradoodle, we then set out to find the best breeder we could find. We spent several months trying to find a breeder with not only good reviews, but also one who would understand our needs having a son with autism. We thought we had found a good breeder but they were not responsive and their contract was crazy long with some pretty crazy requirements. Right from the start, Judy was very responsive to ALL our questions. She understood our concerns about getting the right dog for our son. Once we decided to go forward with it, she even let us come visit to get to know our soon-to-be new family member. She has been so responsive to our questions and concerns even after bringing little JoJo home. Her training program has made such a huge difference and has taken away so much of the normal stress of having a new puppy. Thank you Judy. We are so in love with our sweet little JoJo. We elected to do bring our pup home around 12 weeks so he could do the advanced training and it was the right choice. Our pup did amazing in his crate, adjusted quickly and was comfortable going out on a leash to learn his bathroom spot at this new house. He did great with a 18 month old and 5 year old without any nipping. Chris Beck The decision to add a dog into our family was a big one. We took our time researching, with the selection of a breeder being a huge factor. I stumbled upon Judy at Magnolia Labradoodles and was instantly intrigued. I liked that she only had one litter at a time. I knew my puppy would be getting attention and care. I liked that past customers said she was responsive and the experience was personal. My telephone conversation with her was also critical. I had lots of questions and she had answers for all of them and gave me all the time I needed to feel comfortable. I could tell she loved what she did and it was personal to her…not just a business. We opted for the additional training and felt this made the transition home for our dog go smoothly. He did not nip at us, knew his name, how to focus on us, how to sit and was happy in his crate. We had to wait quite a while to bring our dog home, but Judy kept us updated with photos and videos. She even face-timed my children twice so they could see their dog. It was a great experience and worth the wait. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Labradoodles. We have always had English Labrador Retrievers, but due to us getting older we wanted something a little smaller but also hardy. Lexi is everything you could ask for: intelligent, kind, loving, good with people and children, loves all dogs, loves to play with our cat, walks and hikes great and the added bonus if the above items are not enough they are absolutely gorgeous!!!! We had an amazing experience with Judy!! Judy was always there to answer all my questions and she still is a year later!! That in itself is an outstanding quality, not to mention the wonderful job Judy does getting them ready for their forever homes. If you are skeptical about doing the 3 week training…DO IT!!! It was well worth it. We put Lexi in her crate the first night and she went right to sleep. I will never forget when we went to pick Lexi up. Judy let us in and there in the living room was this gorgeous, well behaved dog that just sat there until I went over and picked her up. I started crying and as I turned around, so was Judy!! That just showed me the love and compassion she has for raising these outstanding dogs. If after reading this, if you are still unsure, please feel free to contact me. Judy has my contact information. Debbie Stierly Working with Judy was fantastic. Cadbury Harmony and Rhett is as perfect a puppy as you could imagine. From the beginning, Judy helped my daughters face their fear of dogs and see how kind and loving puppies can be. This is absolutely a much better way to ensure success. Judy treats her pups with love and kindness. She dotes on them! When we brought Cadbury home, family and friends could not get over his calm and loving personality. He adjusted immediately, slept well on the first night, and already had learned manners. While it is hard to wait the extra 3 weeks, it is so nice to have a puppy that has learned basic obedience, crate training, and potty training! If you plan to add a puppy to your family and want a dog that will be sweet, obedient, and gentle, look no further! Judy was excellent throughout the process and was responsive, organized, detailed and passionate. Lucy was the smallest in the litter of Harmony and Rhett and needed a lot of extra care just to be able to make it to our home. Judy spent many sleepless nights to make this happen. Lucy is…. She is a kind and gentle puppy with a great spirit for adventure. We are enjoying her everyday! I highly recommend working with Judy if you are looking for a great addition to your family! The puppy that we recently got from Magnolia Australian Doodles was worth the wait and cost for such a lovely little addition to our menagerie. He was introduced to numerous adults, noisy children, other dogs, a cat, sweeper, hour car ride home and multiple other stimuli and he was unfazed. And this was just during the first two days. Not to mention a huge thunder and lightening storm. He is going to one of those special dogs, you talk about. PK Pamela Kratzer Five stars are honestly not enough! Judy made the experience of getting a puppy so easy and stress free. She was always available, and answered my thousands of questions. She sent us updates and photos weekly too! You can tell Judy puts her heart and soul into caring for each litter. Our puppy is almost 3 months old, and we are so happy we chose Magnolia Australian Labradoodles! Our puppy slept the whole first night, and is the most loving and fun puppy ever! Despite the pandemic going on, Judy did her best to socialize the puppies. She sends you home with a complete binder with everything you need to raise your puppy! Duke has been a great addition to our family and I highly recommend Magnolia Australian Labradoodles if you want a caring and knowledgeable breeder!! You guys are truly incredible. Thank you. He really brings a smile to all of us, all the time. I had done a lot of research on the web of this breed. Judy welcomed my questions and answered with obvious knowledge of having done her own research. She was able to answer any question or concern that I may have had. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Australian Labradoodle kennel to anyone looking for a beautiful Australian Labradoodle. I would also highly recommend the additional 3 weeks with Judy as she trains and teaches confidence. Ella came to us, confident and well adjusted. She was able to be in her crate all night 9hrs without even a whimper. She was able to sit and layed down on command. She is a lovable, sweet, attentive and is so well adjusted from the minute we brought her home. Without any hesitation, I give all the credit to her first human mommy, Judy Adams of Magnolia Australian Labradoodles. We adore our Little Miss Ella!! Joyce Rusin.
